:00:24. > :00:31.Hazel Irvine: Hello. Stand-by for the magic Masters weekend. This

:00:32. > :00:36.bridge crosses the creek at Amen Corner at the 12th, and it is named

:00:37. > :00:40.after Ben Hogan, who won an event record scorer in 1953. There are

:00:41. > :00:44.other bridges across other stretches of water. The Nelson Bridge just

:00:45. > :00:51.round the corner, Sarazen at the 15th. There are plucks commemorating

:00:52. > :01:02.the feats of players. When you win on this amazing course, you become a

:01:03. > :01:29.part of the property. -- there are plaques. COMMENTATOR: Yes, sir! Oh,

:01:30. > :01:39.wow! There it is! Oh, what a shock. Absolutely incredible. Danny Willett

:01:40. > :01:43.is the Masters champion. When Danny Willett slips the green jacket on

:01:44. > :01:46.the shoulders of the new champion tomorrow night, they will have

:01:47. > :01:51.earned the hard way. Whilst it is warm, calm and serene today, Augusta

:01:52. > :01:53.National has played tougher than it has for a decade. Since Thursday, we

:01:54. > :02:56.have had high winds and high drama. And look at this cinema coming into

:02:57. > :03:05.round three, we have the largest logjam at halfway in the Masters for

:03:06. > :03:13.44 years. Sergio Garcia and his 74th major. Fearless Belgian debutant

:03:14. > :03:23.Tommy Pieters. Olympic champion Justin Rose. 15 players are within

:03:24. > :03:31.five shots, including four Masters champions, 57-year-old Couples, and

:03:32. > :03:36.that 1-over par, Rory McIlroy, who needs a low round today to maintain

:03:37. > :03:44.his herbs are becoming only the sixth man to complete a career grand

:03:45. > :03:51.slam. What a shoot out we have in stock. We will have coverage within

:03:52. > :03:55.the half-hour, when we get the green light. There are live streams

:03:56. > :04:02.available from the red button and via the BBC sport website. Rory

:04:03. > :04:08.McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, Jordan Spieth, already out there. Or you

:04:09. > :04:14.could just hang around with us, I suppose, in the company of two of

:04:15. > :04:24.the game's greatest players. Gary Player, welcome. And former US PGA

:04:25. > :04:26.champion, Paul Azinger. When Dustin Johnson poll that, I have expected

:04:27. > :04:38.you to come sprinting onto that first tee to take his place. Thank

:04:39. > :04:42.you for the welcome. When you can be 81 and as busy as you were at 25, it

:04:43. > :04:47.is something to be thankful for. Paul, are we in for a cavalry charge

:04:48. > :04:54.this weekend? You would think so. This is a dangerous course, so the

:04:55. > :05:00.players that are behind need to be sensible today. You cannot go out

:05:01. > :05:04.there and play aggressively. Every hole has the potential to take a

:05:05. > :05:09.bite out of you. There will be moving, and we're looking forward to

:05:10. > :05:15.sharing it with you at home. This places, as you know, the only men's

:05:16. > :05:19.major that is played at the same venue every year. It is a chance to

:05:20. > :05:22.see familiar sights and sounds and to catch up with old friends. This

:05:23. > :05:27.year, one of our great old was missing.

:05:28. > :05:34.There have been golfers with a more elegant swing, golfers have won more

:05:35. > :05:38.than seven Majors, but there was only one Arnold Palmer. He took golf

:05:39. > :05:43.to places and people as never before. He had a presence,

:05:44. > :05:48.especially at Augusta, where he won the Masters four times. He was one

:05:49. > :05:53.of the big three, together with Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. They

:05:54. > :05:58.pushed the boundaries of golf beyond belief. He remained, till his dying

:05:59. > :06:03.day, one of the golfing fraternity, respected by players of today, and a

:06:04. > :06:09.dear, dear friend to all from yesteryear.

:06:10. > :06:15.And on Thursday morning, a poignant moment to start the Masters as

:06:16. > :06:21.Arnold Palmer's green jacket was placed on the chair at the 1st tee.

:06:22. > :06:29.Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus, visibly affected. Both men did his

:06:30. > :06:32.memory proud from the tee, as always. Gary, you have hit hundreds

:06:33. > :06:36.of tee shots here over the years, but that must have been one of the

:06:37. > :06:40.toughest, to strike the ball on such a morning as that. Without a doubt,

:06:41. > :06:48.the saddest moment of my golfing career. Billy Payne was eloquent in

:06:49. > :06:53.the way he spoke about Arnold. The public loved him, and he loved the

:06:54. > :06:57.public. My great hero was Sir Winston Churchill, and he had a

:06:58. > :07:03.great saying that man is make the man, which applied to Arnold Palmer.

:07:04. > :07:11.It was never noted by anybody, but he was sitting down, needed help to

:07:12. > :07:22.get to the first tee. Billy Noun said this -- Billy Payne said this,

:07:23. > :07:26.and Arnold Palmer got up. And when I saw him put the jacket on the chair,

:07:27. > :07:35.even right now, I am battling not to choke. Everything shall pass, and he

:07:36. > :07:40.had an amazing life. He liked to smoke and pH junk. I said, you, if I

:07:41. > :07:57.had to live like you, I would be dead at 69. -- and he ate junk. It

:07:58. > :08:01.was a heartfelt moment. Billy Payne was attached to that moment as well,

:08:02. > :08:05.and I thought it was handled beautifully. You struck it down the

:08:06. > :08:10.middle, didn't you? I didn't quite catch it. It wasn't important at

:08:11. > :08:19.that stage. But I know I can outdrive you! Mr Palmer, so deeply

:08:20. > :08:23.associated with this place, but so too is Gary, because as a three-time

:08:24. > :08:27.winner, and that win in 1961 really was the benchmark for worldwide

:08:28. > :08:30.golfers, the first time that a non-American had won the Masters.

:08:31. > :08:37.What a lifetime career this fellow has had at this wonderful venue. --

:08:38. > :09:30.what a life and a career this fellow has had.

:09:31. > :09:37.What a career. And there is the roll of honour at Augusta. Gary with

:09:38. > :09:49.three wins. Alongside Phil Mickelson, Sam Snead, Sir Nick

:09:50. > :09:55.Faldo. Of course, Gary, you won all four Majors. Where did the Masters

:09:56. > :10:01.rank in terms of the degree of difficulty in acquiring the first of

:10:02. > :10:09.those titles? The first was the US Open, and I always rated the British

:10:10. > :10:14.Open number one in the world because you have to use instinct and accept

:10:15. > :10:18.adversity, and the game started there. Here, we play in the same

:10:19. > :10:21.place every year, so we know what to cater for. This is a paradise and

:10:22. > :10:30.the best organised tournament in the world. I had to win the US Open to

:10:31. > :10:33.close the grand slam. There were a host of them who never did the final

:10:34. > :10:42.one, so that obviously is where there is the most pressure. I did

:10:43. > :10:46.many mind setting exercises, and I went almost threw a torture cell,

:10:47. > :10:50.which I've never really discussed with many people. Being small in

:10:51. > :10:54.stature, I had had something different, the power of the mind,

:10:55. > :10:58.and I had to be the fittest. These are to make things I applied

:10:59. > :11:04.diligently as a young man, and still do. When you talk about the mind, I

:11:05. > :11:10.think that great players seem to have the ability to redirect. I

:11:11. > :11:19.asked Tiger what he was thinking of that putt? And he said, do you know

:11:20. > :11:29.what I was thinking? My mum could make this pot-mac. -- this putt. I

:11:30. > :11:34.wondered if you had redirected your way in your mind, what was required

:11:35. > :11:43.for you to play so well. Good question. We come back to the mind.

:11:44. > :11:47.You have seen a lot of players who are champions today and could not

:11:48. > :11:51.play tomorrow. There is a reason. In my opinion, you either have it or

:11:52. > :11:58.you haven't. Can you describe it? No. Everybody thinks they can. To

:11:59. > :12:02.me, what I did, there is a fine line between arrogance and humility. I

:12:03. > :12:06.said, I am the best full stop I believe I can make it. I have

:12:07. > :12:14.practised like a dog. I am going to make it. You felt you deserved it? I

:12:15. > :12:23.convinced myself, brainwash myself, that I deserved it. These fellows

:12:24. > :12:29.today, there are four of them who have never gone this far in a major.

:12:30. > :12:35.How do you deal with teeing off at three o'clock? The press asked me

:12:36. > :12:40.what I did before teeing off. I said I got up at midday. I am a great

:12:41. > :12:48.sleeper and so is my wife. I got in a tai chi position, sat in front of

:12:49. > :12:53.the mirror like this. I said you will be waiting and it will be good

:12:54. > :12:57.for you. You will have patients, you will never be rude. These were the

:12:58. > :13:02.sort of things I did that were a little out of whack, if you want to

:13:03. > :13:13.put it that way. But if you're successful, it is not out of whack.

:13:14. > :13:16.I prepared myself. The public were screaming, kill that little South

:13:17. > :13:22.African runner. I was ready for that. I wonder if we can transfer

:13:23. > :13:29.some of this advice to Sergio Garcia, who has been waiting a long

:13:30. > :13:35.time to win a major. It is always fascinating to assess the mindset of

:13:36. > :13:38.players like this. I wonder how you assess this, what has been missing

:13:39. > :13:47.for Sergio, and whether you feel this could be his moment. First, his

:13:48. > :13:53.putting. There is a reason why he changed to the claw. The power of

:13:54. > :13:56.the mind is what wins tournaments, and the putter. Not this long

:13:57. > :14:02.driving I keep hearing about. When will people realise? Tiger Woods and

:14:03. > :14:08.Phil Mickelson were two of the worst drivers I saw, and yet they were

:14:09. > :14:11.welcomed by one time. If Sergio won, Latin America and the rest of the

:14:12. > :14:19.world would benefit greatly, which we need, a shot in the arm for golf.

:14:20. > :14:22.Rory McIlroy winning the grand slam - what a great thing that would be

:14:23. > :14:26.for God. And I think he's destined to win that. I believe that. Jordan

:14:27. > :14:48.Spieth, this man, this young man, who has suffered... -- that would be

:14:49. > :14:55.a great thing for golf. Watch out for Jordan Spieth. He will never

:14:56. > :15:00.grow to six foot, because he's always bending down. He has a

:15:01. > :15:03.fantastic Brexiteer. He has been second before. Where is the best

:15:04. > :15:13.viewing position on this course? Ken was out early -- he has a fantastic

:15:14. > :15:23.record here. If you have one of these chairs and

:15:24. > :15:27.placed it in position, it is reserved for the day. I have had

:15:28. > :15:31.some tweets about where is the best place to sit. I would sit right

:15:32. > :15:36.here, right in front of B12 tee. Look at that. What have you you've

:15:37. > :15:43.got. You can look at the 11th, lovely view of that. But here, you

:15:44. > :15:47.will see action after action. You can also see across to the 13th tee.

:15:48. > :15:54.If I was arriving, first thing, eight o'clock, I would walk quickly

:15:55. > :15:58.to this point here. You cannot run. It is gorgeous. HRA is, and the

:15:59. > :16:01.patrons could be in for a treat. We have had a treat having you in the

:16:02. > :16:15.studio today. Thank you, Gary, for dropping by. -- it really is. There

:16:16. > :16:22.were some great names who missed the cut. Amongst them, last year's

:16:23. > :16:29.champion, Danny Willett. He came to grief. Danny is the first defending

:16:30. > :16:34.champion not to be with us at the weekend since my clear in 2004. He

:16:35. > :16:39.is in good company with former champions Zac Johnson, Bubba Watson,

:16:40. > :16:46.and the reigning European champion Henrik Stenson also missing. Seven

:16:47. > :16:56.UK players will be with us. Justin Rose and McIlroy are the best placed

:16:57. > :16:59.of those. In that four way tie, there will be a lot of you at home

:17:00. > :17:05.I'm sure hoping that Sergio Garcia can finally break his duck in a

:17:06. > :17:23.major. Will it be different for him this time? A longish putt... Four

:17:24. > :17:27.under, a great start. Jo the course, the wait 's been playing, it is

:17:28. > :17:31.challenging. You have to get lucky, and I have been managing to get

:17:32. > :17:44.lucky two or three times on the right moment.

:17:45. > :17:53.I got going again, which was nice. Garcia has found the front bunker at

:17:54. > :17:59.the 12th. Sit, sit! What a cracking effort. It is very difficult outlier

:18:00. > :18:14.mag. How much of a challenge is it, and how much do you enjoy that? --

:18:15. > :18:20.it is very difficult out there. You have to hit the ball the right way.

:18:21. > :18:26.That is a fantastic shot. Down the breeze, landing on the slope. Five

:18:27. > :18:30.star from Garcia there. Is the intensity of the hunger to win a

:18:31. > :18:36.major still the same as it was although she is a go? It is. There

:18:37. > :18:43.is no doubt that I do want to get my first major. But I do have to say

:18:44. > :18:51.that I try not to make it a problem or an issue. I am out there giving

:18:52. > :18:56.it everything I have, giving it my best, and that is all I can really

:18:57. > :19:05.ask myself for. Sergio Garcia. And Ken Brown has joined us. Thank you

:19:06. > :19:08.very much. Sergio has 12 top fives. What do you like about his demeanour

:19:09. > :19:17.and his form this time, and why might it be different for him? He is

:19:18. > :19:21.starting to hole some putts. He is in a calm place in his life, getting

:19:22. > :19:26.married in July, feeling good about himself. There is no doubt, everyone

:19:27. > :19:33.has been saying it for years and years that Sergio has got to win a

:19:34. > :19:37.major. Paul, a lot of people are hoping he can finally get over the

:19:38. > :19:43.line. I liked his chances early in the week, for some reason. He can

:19:44. > :19:48.ball strike with anyone, and it comes down to the putt full stop

:19:49. > :19:52.Gary confirmed it. I look at Sergio and I think, either you learn from

:19:53. > :19:56.your experiences or you never recover from them. As he has matured

:19:57. > :20:00.and gotten into a better place in his luck, I think he has recovered

:20:01. > :20:05.nicely and blood from his experiences. He has just got to get

:20:06. > :20:09.it done. He knows he can do it. He has beaten everybody in this field

:20:10. > :20:16.before, but you have to do it in the right spot. I hate to be a harbinger

:20:17. > :20:25.of doom, but he has the worst round three average. Of the men in the

:20:26. > :20:29.leaderboard, Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth, all

:20:30. > :20:33.averaging sub par rounds in the third round. It doesn't look good

:20:34. > :20:40.and you wonder if there is a mental block about Moving Day. Perhaps that

:20:41. > :20:46.creates its own pressure. I don't think you'll be aware of that. On a

:20:47. > :20:51.day like today, there is not a breath of wind, the sun is shining,

:20:52. > :20:59.and you know there is a score to be had but you have to be absolutely on

:21:00. > :21:06.your game. If Sergio were to pull it off, he would join his illustrious

:21:07. > :21:17.Spanish compatriots. Sunday it would have been Seve's 60th birthday, and

:21:18. > :21:21.what they moment it would be all putt if Sergio could pull it off

:21:22. > :21:32.them. The power pairings for this third round at Augusta look like

:21:33. > :21:45.this: Four-time champion Rory and Matt Kuchar teamed up. Speeds and

:21:46. > :21:52.Mickelson teed off at 7:10pm. And what a composed and brilliant ball

:21:53. > :22:02.striking partnership this is. 22-year-old Spanish new boy Jon Rahm

:22:03. > :22:04.is playing with Fred Couples. North Carolina's 37-year-old first-time

:22:05. > :22:13.Willie McGirt is out with Ryan Moore. An exciting combination of

:22:14. > :22:19.Thomas Pieters Rickie Fowler, both in search of their first major

:22:20. > :22:29.title. Charley Hoffman and Sergio Garcia will tee off at 8pm your

:22:30. > :22:34.time. Now, there is a bit of movement out on the course. This is

:22:35. > :22:41.Kevin Chappell, runner-up at the Tour Championship in the PGA Tour

:22:42. > :22:49.last year. This is him at the 2nd. In fact, this is at the 8th. Seven,

:22:50. > :22:52.I beg your pardon. That was for an eagle chance, which he would take,

:22:53. > :22:59.and he followed up with a birdie at the 8th. He is level overall. Phil

:23:00. > :23:03.Mickelson, this is the first. He said he needs a very hot day with a

:23:04. > :23:11.putter. He has proven he can make things happen so often on a

:23:12. > :23:16.Saturday. A little bit of fatigue yesterday, but in it goes to go

:23:17. > :23:22.1-under. He would follow this, unfortunately, at the 3rd with a

:23:23. > :23:26.double bogey. A bit of progress, only to fall straight behind. This

:23:27. > :23:36.is Rory McIlroy, birdieing the second. He must have taken a driver

:23:37. > :23:41.of the tee. Aggressive play, a great chance of a birdie at the 3rd. He

:23:42. > :23:49.took it, and that put him 1-under. Makar right on the charge, it would

:23:50. > :23:55.appear. -- McIlroy. Rory making progress, 2-under for the day.

:23:56. > :24:00.Willie McGirt, steady through the first. All of our co-leaders are

:24:01. > :24:05.just about to tee off in the next few moments. Let's talk about Rory

:24:06. > :24:13.McIlroy. He has made a fast and Paul, he said he needs to be used

:24:14. > :24:19.what he's capable of. 2011, a 65 here in the first run, and he has

:24:20. > :24:25.produced a 66 since then. We talk about Saturday being Moving Day. For

:24:26. > :24:32.the four guys in front, it is Proving Day. I can't imagine the

:24:33. > :24:36.burden on the pressure he feels if he is in contention to close out a

:24:37. > :24:41.grand slam. Gary Player went through it and describe it. It is difficult,

:24:42. > :24:46.all in their head in the end. You have to be mentally strong. Watch

:24:47. > :24:52.out for Rory McIlroy if he can put it together. He was going through

:24:53. > :24:57.his clubs slowly, and he finished off by hitting some really hard

:24:58. > :25:01.drives. I have a feeling he is going to go after the course today. He's

:25:02. > :25:09.taking a chance, but if he plays as well as he can... He is a confidence

:25:10. > :25:16.player. He might shoot a real low one. He was on record yesterday

:25:17. > :25:21.saying he needs to go alone. Just going into Sunday, I know more than

:25:22. > :25:27.most what can happen on Sunday, good and bad. I have shot 66 and 80 in

:25:28. > :25:30.the last round, so you know, it is all about getting yourself in

:25:31. > :25:34.position, as you said. But I feel like I need something in the 60s

:25:35. > :25:41.tomorrow at least to get myself in there. What about Jordan Spieth? He

:25:42. > :25:46.has been smarting after events here last year, but his record is

:25:47. > :25:50.exceptional. Second, first, second. If it hadn't been for that quadruple

:25:51. > :25:54.bogey on the first day, he would be a co-leaders as well. It is the

:25:55. > :26:00.fourth year that he comes into day three in the top ten. He's an

:26:01. > :26:03.amazing player. You can apply to him what we say about Sergio. You learn

:26:04. > :26:09.from your experiences and you recover. He had a Masters pick-up

:26:10. > :26:15.last year and has dealt with it face on, I feel. Jordan Spieth is a

:26:16. > :26:20.phenomenal player. It is interesting how, at such early ages, we think

:26:21. > :26:24.that golf is a little bit of an older man's game, but in the end, if

:26:25. > :26:28.you really reflect back, it is the great players who learned how to

:26:29. > :26:36.think at an early age. Jack won and open a 21, Gary Player won at an

:26:37. > :26:39.early stage. Now Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy are doing it. It is

:26:40. > :26:43.interesting, because we never know what a player is necessarily

:26:44. > :26:49.thinking, but these guys who have figured out how to think are playing

:26:50. > :26:53.great. They have a strategy. Jordan knows how to think, and so does

:26:54. > :27:00.Rory. For whatever reason, there are horses for courses too. This would

:27:01. > :27:04.be a perfect causeway. You knows the importance of putting. He has been

:27:05. > :27:16.talking about that. I think it will play similar to last year. Augusta

:27:17. > :27:19.is more of a premium on being below the hole and first putt speed.

:27:20. > :27:22.Having less than three feet as you hit your second putt is good to be

:27:23. > :27:28.important because they are going to get very quick. It will speed up

:27:29. > :27:33.probably a full foot. I am looking forward to it, a fun challenge.

:27:34. > :27:39.Especially if you can putt lichen! You have had a look at pin

:27:40. > :27:49.positions. -- if you can putt like him. He always gives himself the

:27:50. > :27:53.best angle to putt to. The players have this pin position sheet. They

:27:54. > :27:59.pick these up on the first tee. It shows you where the flag positions

:28:00. > :28:05.are. If we look at number three mac, you can see it is on the front

:28:06. > :28:08.right, four on, free from the right. Rory has just played it. Your

:28:09. > :28:14.strategy is dictated by the pin position, where they are on the

:28:15. > :28:21.green. You think what angle will give me the best shot? Particularly

:28:22. > :28:27.at Augusta, it is crucial. Ideally, you can break the greens into four

:28:28. > :28:30.quadrants, try to learn where straight is on each of the four

:28:31. > :28:35.quadrants. Once you figure out where straight is, deep thinkers will

:28:36. > :28:40.think the way you say, Ken, and put the ball in positions where they

:28:41. > :28:44.have a putt up the hill. It is almost time for the last of the

:28:45. > :28:48.pairings to go out. Sergio Garcia has only ever lead after one round

:28:49. > :28:52.here at Augusta, and that was after the first round a good few years ago

:28:53. > :28:58.now, so this is a new experience for him. Ironically, his playing

:28:59. > :29:03.partner, Charley Hoffman, is in the last group for the second time in

:29:04. > :29:09.three years, and he is the more experienced of the two. Rory, having

:29:10. > :29:13.four Majors, he is in a good position today. He has never birdied

:29:14. > :29:18.this 1st hole and it is one of the hardest on the course. It is the

:29:19. > :29:26.hardest one this week, number one. A tricky tee shot. Charley Hoffman, 40

:29:27. > :29:30.years old, how might Kiko today? I remember a couple of years back, he

:29:31. > :29:35.was in the thick of it and did not back down. And he does not back down

:29:36. > :29:38.when he sniffs the lead. He usually pulls a dog. He has the same amount

:29:39. > :29:54.of wins 's Rickie Fowler on the PGA Tour. -- the same number of wins as

:29:55. > :30:00.Rickie Fowler. Maybe Charley Hoffman is in the middle of one of those

:30:01. > :30:03.runs. He has had a great deal of form coming, tied second at Arnold

:30:04. > :30:10.Palmer's Invitational a couple of weeks ago, and such a well

:30:11. > :30:17.respective ball striker. I like how compact his swing is.

:30:18. > :30:24.I do not know how anyone handles the wind much better than that. He

:30:25. > :30:27.follows in more of the journeyman category, you never know when a guy

:30:28. > :30:33.gets hot like this, he's certainly capable. Here we go, the last two

:30:34. > :30:38.out on the course, moving day, Charley Hoffman. All of the anxiety

:30:39. > :30:40.builds up to this moment, by the time he gets to the first green, he

:30:41. > :30:56.will probably be all right. That is not where you would like to

:30:57. > :31:04.be at all on the outgoing nine here. Sergio Garcia. A fairway bunker on

:31:05. > :31:11.one, two, three, you do not want to be in there, the bunkers on five, it

:31:12. > :31:18.is hard to make par. Sergio might be able to get this out with his power.

:31:19. > :31:25.The opening tee shot is always a settler for the day, or it will

:31:26. > :31:30.unsettle you. It is late in the day here. Your mind does not stop. Now

:31:31. > :31:47.you are doing what you do best. Setting up for a little phase, going

:31:48. > :31:57.to try and started down the left and move it from left to right.

:31:58. > :32:07.So Sergio is often running, Jason Day has come in with a good day, he

:32:08. > :32:11.has said, there is not one hole out there in which you can relax. That

:32:12. > :32:14.is his message today. You are quite right, there are quite a few

:32:15. > :32:18.pitfalls awaiting these players as they head off at the start of the

:32:19. > :32:22.third round. And there has been a little bit of movement to update you

:32:23. > :32:29.on. And to do so, we will welcome Andrew Cotter and beat Alice. Hello,

:32:30. > :32:34.Hazel, and lucky to be here again, on this sparkly day. Couple of days

:32:35. > :32:40.of dodgy weather. Today it is but a good, after at cool start. The

:32:41. > :32:45.course is in the magnificent condition. Early spring, they have

:32:46. > :32:55.lost all of the azaleas because they all floured in February. We are

:32:56. > :33:01.looking at Rahm at the second hole, he is a rising star, 22, he looks

:33:02. > :33:07.older. He is one for the future. Indeed, he is from the Basque

:33:08. > :33:17.country, Nicholson started birdie, birdie, iron birdie, took an iron

:33:18. > :33:25.off the tee at the short par-4, for safety. This is two on the fourth.

:33:26. > :33:30.He hardly touched that, but it is getting closer, look at that! Just

:33:31. > :33:36.moved to the right at the last 18 inches, he must have thought he had

:33:37. > :33:42.got it. He did. Fred Couples, 57 years old, playing with a

:33:43. > :33:46.22-year-old, Jon Rahm. Again, just lightly touched, in it goes. He will

:33:47. > :33:50.have a huge amount of support today and tomorrow, 1992 champion,

:33:51. > :33:58.astonishing record around this course over the years.

:33:59. > :34:09.McIlroy had a sparkling start. This is the 5th hole. That is a bit wide,

:34:10. > :34:15.very wide. Nearly drove the third, chipped up, he has had a couple of

:34:16. > :34:27.birdies already. Jordan Spieth, going alongside Phil Mickelson. And

:34:28. > :34:36.he finds out, I think it is a birdie, no, just the par.

:34:37. > :34:44.Paul Casey, 2-over. This is the path.

:34:45. > :34:53.That rattled into the hole. Tiptoeing towards 40 years of age

:34:54. > :35:03.now, Paul Casey. What a good striker of the ball over the years. Matt

:35:04. > :35:16.Fitzpatrick. He is on the 16th. Just give you an idea where the holes

:35:17. > :35:22.are, back right. He patted off the green yesterday, took a double

:35:23. > :35:33.bogey. He was on the first page of the leaderboard until then.

:35:34. > :35:39.Nicely done, hanging around, he remains 5-over. Tied for 30 Sixth

:35:40. > :35:49.Place at the moment. A good little run. Rory McIlroy. He is at the 6th.

:35:50. > :35:54.This is a split screen. A low-level and top-level. Ashwell Prince split

:35:55. > :36:13.green. We have seen better ones than that.

:36:14. > :36:21.It is in the easiest position, in the middle of the green. Very close

:36:22. > :36:26.to the hole. It cost him a dropped shot at the 5th, back to level par.

:36:27. > :36:35.That is one of the more difficult positions at the 5th. This is Thomas

:36:36. > :36:44.Pieters. This is to save his par on the 1st hole.

:36:45. > :36:54.Beautifully read but short for the Belgian on the opening hole. It has

:36:55. > :36:55.paid far more easily than it has done on the first two days, but it

:36:56. > :37:16.is still a tough opener. It really is not an easy green here

:37:17. > :37:18.at Augusta, maybe the 12th, they have lots of lumps and bumps and

:37:19. > :37:23.hollows, they jump have lots of lumps and bumps and

:37:24. > :37:27.hollows, they and spin and go all over the place. You sometimes

:37:28. > :37:35.wonder, is this right, it is really OK? That is the examination paper

:37:36. > :37:47.for the week, get on with it! So to Fred Couples, on the third. Looking

:37:48. > :37:52.for a bit of speed. That is the pin that we were pointing out was

:37:53. > :37:55.tricky, right on the corner. Couples getting further away. A few players

:37:56. > :38:06.taking it on with the driver, McIlroy drove to the edge of the

:38:07. > :38:14.green. McGirt at the 2nd. The good striker. Yes, he got a good strike

:38:15. > :38:21.on that, he struck it well. This is a tough pin, it is in a little

:38:22. > :38:28.promontory that sticks out. He will go back down. That is fortunate, if

:38:29. > :38:35.it sticks. It was judged pretty well. Not a lot of room to land,

:38:36. > :38:43.though, Andrew, on so many of these greens. A foot or two away and you

:38:44. > :38:47.can end up 40 feet away. Confirmation of how things are

:38:48. > :38:56.going, early on in this third round. All of the players are out. You have

:38:57. > :39:02.seen Thomas Pieters out of the form way tie after a bogey, and William

:39:03. > :39:08.McGirt has picked one up. He is a first timer, he is placed the first

:39:09. > :39:16.time at Augusta. Jon Rahm, the well fancied Spaniard, 1-under. Three

:39:17. > :39:21.rookies have the chance to have a win on their first attempt. Fred

:39:22. > :39:26.Couples, the 57-year-old has had more top tens than anyone else. Six

:39:27. > :39:35.and counting. Extraordinary on the 25th anniversary of his win. Further

:39:36. > :39:42.down, Soren Kjeldsen, a wonderful day. Rory McIlroy is four shots

:39:43. > :39:46.behind, Phil Mickelson throttled -- threatened early on but he will have

:39:47. > :39:50.to settle for level par. Paul Casey has picked up two shots so far. He

:39:51. > :39:56.finished well outside the top ten last year. Stewart Hagestad, the

:39:57. > :40:00.financier from New York is leading the way to restore cup.

:40:01. > :40:09.-- the silver cup for best amateur. That was all of the balance and

:40:10. > :40:15.cough strength in the world but just splashing out. That was unlucky to

:40:16. > :40:22.find that stance. Let's see fearless Fred.

:40:23. > :40:32.He pushes it through, I bent over the top, -- up and over the top. One

:40:33. > :40:44.of them left. Fred does not really care for them. Not many do. So, to

:40:45. > :40:51.Charley Hoffman. Garcia is waiting at the green, it is Hoffman's third.

:40:52. > :41:01.You can see that slope that really lifts up to that first green. Garcia

:41:02. > :41:09.has come all the way back off that. That is pretty good. Second hole.

:41:10. > :41:14.Rickie Fowler. I do not know whether he miscued his tee shots, and the

:41:15. > :41:21.wind has dropped, but that is a lot shorter. A lot shorter than

:41:22. > :41:31.yesterday. That is a way to the right and short. It is on the

:41:32. > :41:39.fairway, not a bad spot. Garcia. If I tell you that the pin on the first

:41:40. > :41:52.is 28 yards on, he is just on the putting surface. About 88 feet.

:41:53. > :42:09.Settle down. A nice touch, but a nice test for his putting skills on

:42:10. > :42:19.the opening hole. A long birdie putt, relative, in fact, if there is

:42:20. > :42:20.such a thing at Augusta. Come on, Rory, you do not want to leave any

:42:21. > :42:48.nine footer pars. Just pot out, a bit of luck there.

:42:49. > :42:59.-- it was just popping out, it came off the cheddar cheese sandwich!

:43:00. > :43:06.This is to go 3-under. Hardly moved the putter back at all. Online and

:43:07. > :43:13.in, beautifully judged. Two birdies in the opening three holes. Spieth

:43:14. > :43:35.is on the fifth. Past the hole. He gave it a good chance. It is

:43:36. > :43:38.going to be all par to start with. Rory McIlroy gets it in, and it is

:43:39. > :43:45.hard work but he will walk off trying to look casual. That is a

:43:46. > :43:54.good save. Having three patted the previous green. Nice start. Hoffman,

:43:55. > :44:00.for his part par on the first. -- for his par on the first. I do not

:44:01. > :44:08.like to see that, that is rude, showing no courtesy. Pay your other

:44:09. > :44:11.man attention. I do not like the way he wondered up onto the green

:44:12. > :44:21.either. Show your partner a bit of courtesy. So wrapped up in their own

:44:22. > :44:30.game. Now, Rahm, two had 30 yards, this 4th hole today. -- 230 yards. A

:44:31. > :44:38.very good start that Rahm has made. Dropped, dropped! He is asking it to

:44:39. > :44:46.turn over. He asked if it was in the bunker, but no. That is a pretty

:44:47. > :44:55.speedy putt from there. And here is Mickelson. A birdie at the 5th. Just

:44:56. > :45:01.a little tickle, it needs to turn and run. Once you become a little

:45:02. > :45:04.bit afraid, it is difficult to putt on these greens. Garcia to save par

:45:05. > :45:18.on the first. That will settle him, right in the

:45:19. > :45:27.middle from Garcia. He will remain in a tie for the lead.

:45:28. > :45:48.230 yards today, this par-3. I said beauty before the ball left the club

:45:49. > :45:58.head, was it right? They were right for line.

:45:59. > :46:14.McIlroy, through the heat haze. A few casts, but they died away. --

:46:15. > :46:24.some gasping. The ball is out of bounds. Rickie Fowler, after that

:46:25. > :46:26.long second downhill, pitches up, looks good and it is good. Well

:46:27. > :46:48.done. The stats for you, there, Nicholson

:46:49. > :47:01.is -- Mickelson a three-time champion. He finally got that win in

:47:02. > :47:07.2004. There we have Jon Rahm born in 1984, Freddie couples won inability

:47:08. > :47:23.to. William McGirt led the putting stats after the first two rounds.

:47:24. > :47:38.Pieters 's third shot of the second. Ricocheted off of the crowd. The cut

:47:39. > :47:45.this run. -- look at this run. Look at that. Sweet, sweet, sweet shot.

:47:46. > :47:54.Took five at the 1st, could get it back here at the 2nd. The tee shot

:47:55. > :48:03.on the second, bunker down the right. 295 today. Avoid that and you

:48:04. > :48:12.get a kick forward. Down the hill at it.

:48:13. > :48:23.Fowler further birdie, to go to 5-under.

:48:24. > :48:40.A confident, firms/ from the young man. Par birdie, 5-under. Garcia,

:48:41. > :48:49.one has got away from him. Should be okayed there, if they are OK. I

:48:50. > :48:56.think Azalea has been spilled, very accurate with the driver this

:48:57. > :49:03.tournament. Pieters at the 2nd takes it for four.

:49:04. > :49:13.One or two people have picked out as a possible winner. But not if he

:49:14. > :49:22.does that. He's a good driver of the ball. You will see the brake on this

:49:23. > :49:29.1's a Jon Rahm, this is one he was hoping could kick to the left and

:49:30. > :49:37.get down to the hole, it is way out to the right. Par, birdie, birdie

:49:38. > :49:42.start. This must be ten, 12 seats to the right and hardly touched it. He

:49:43. > :49:52.has not played it up high, it looks like it is going right, no, it is

:49:53. > :49:55.going right! That fooled everyone. Rickie Fowler has taken the driver

:49:56. > :50:01.out on the third, not the biggest hitter. He shortened his driver

:50:02. > :50:07.earlier in the year to get some accuracy and lost a bit of distance.

:50:08. > :50:09.That is all right with a front right pin position, that is not a bad miss

:50:10. > :50:31.at all. A birdie, no, a little on the high

:50:32. > :50:42.side. Couples is to under at the moment. He, like so many, on the

:50:43. > :50:50.par-5 2nd. He got a birdie. He is got a chance to get to three.

:50:51. > :51:00.Oh, Freddie! I always think Freddie has the best cut trousers. They have

:51:01. > :51:04.all got millions, but some of them have trousers which do not feel

:51:05. > :51:11.well, his trousers have always fitted nicely. McIlroy from the

:51:12. > :51:21.trees, asking it to go. He knew, he knew. It must have clipped a branch

:51:22. > :51:27.or something. Now, Sergio Garcia hit his second shot short and right at

:51:28. > :51:31.the 2nd hole. He is on the flat but he must be 40 or 50 yards behind

:51:32. > :51:38.here. This is going to take a great sum but he might get it down, 20 or

:51:39. > :51:44.30 yards short of the green. He has fired it down the right side. He hit

:51:45. > :51:50.something very hard and kicked it on, he is going to be out to the

:51:51. > :51:58.right. Not a bad spot to be. The bank behind the flag, he can get

:51:59. > :52:03.close. It might have bounced in office friendly patron, because it

:52:04. > :52:09.was outside the ropes. A couple of years ago, 2012, he said he feel

:52:10. > :52:13.like he could never win here, he did not have what it took. He has shown

:52:14. > :52:19.to good stuff this year. Rory McIlroy having found the front

:52:20. > :52:26.bunker at the 7th, hello! I do not know what happened there. That could

:52:27. > :52:33.have been a Lucy locket, a septic tank, something happened, and that

:52:34. > :52:39.would have been a very good shot. I am sure he did not hit a stone or

:52:40. > :52:47.other tweak or something. But that was a very serious miscue. Space,

:52:48. > :52:57.along birdie attempt, on the 81 yard par 36. All the way, Jordan Spieth!

:52:58. > :53:06.First birdie of the day, all pars to this point. Moved him to 1-under.

:53:07. > :53:10.What a putter he is. He said he was still thinking about the quadruple

:53:11. > :53:14.bogey nine on the 15th on the first round, could not get it out of his

:53:15. > :53:28.head. But he's getting close to the lead. Rahm for par domino, no. That

:53:29. > :53:32.first putt down and across the health fooled him and everyone else.

:53:33. > :53:47.1-under for the round so far, not bad. Hoffman, hitting down towards

:53:48. > :53:54.the second. It is leaking of it. -- it is leaking a lot.

:53:55. > :54:09.Justin Rose has got to the fifth, this is his second shot. He has been

:54:10. > :54:19.playing some beautiful iron shots. Another good shot, it moves away. A

:54:20. > :54:31.treacherous flag position. Rory McIlroy, miles away at the 7th.

:54:32. > :54:46.Oh, dear. Oh, dear, that is not finished. That is for bogey. Paul

:54:47. > :54:51.Casey at the 13th. This is for a birdie four. Well, level par. Play

:54:52. > :55:08.nicely. A similar pattern to Jordan Spieth,

:55:09. > :55:15.but this is the part at the 6th. -- this is a four par the sixth. Such a

:55:16. > :55:17.good start for him, double bogey at the 3rd, though. And another one

:55:18. > :55:47.gone at the six, back to 1-over par. McIlroy putting at the 7th for a

:55:48. > :55:54.bogey. It was a comparatively straightforward hole, and he has

:55:55. > :55:59.made a dreadful hash of it. I do not know what happened to the third

:56:00. > :56:03.shot, he probably shanked it, and then 3-putts. The last three holes,

:56:04. > :56:07.he had not been happy. Way left of the said but he has got a bit of

:56:08. > :56:21.green to play with, nice angle to this pin.

:56:22. > :56:36.Seats together, stabbed it low. That should appear in a minute. It seemed

:56:37. > :56:39.to be lying OK, the angle was good but he was trying to visit a bit too

:56:40. > :57:03.much. -- trying to move it. The second shot, it will pitch up to

:57:04. > :57:05.this very small area, it needs to stop and spin back. Sometimes they

:57:06. > :57:27.do and sometimes they do not. Garcia's third on the par-5. Should

:57:28. > :57:30.not present too many problems. He has left it above the hole, it does

:57:31. > :57:41.not go back. Charley Hoffman, third shot, that

:57:42. > :58:08.could be good. Oh, it slowed. Oh, dear oh dear extract 350 yards,

:58:09. > :58:12.this par-4 3rd. This is a classic case of how this course can make the

:58:13. > :58:17.best players look foolish. You try to be too fancy, he did not hit a

:58:18. > :58:21.bad tee shot, left himself an awkward one, tried to be too fancy

:58:22. > :58:23.and now he is really struggling. Justin Rose with a birdie attempt on

:58:24. > :58:47.the fifth. Close but not quite, you have all of

:58:48. > :58:51.the options down the bottom of your screen, you can watch from various

:58:52. > :58:53.places on the course, you can even go to the range and watch nobody

:58:54. > :58:59.playing there at the moment! Garcia hardly moved it, out to the

:59:00. > :59:18.right. It is the par. He has played the

:59:19. > :59:27.best goal so far. He has only dropped one shot. Fowler is the

:59:28. > :59:36.leader but not for long. So, they're in four, one shot dropped. Paul in

:59:37. > :59:41.the studio was saying that far more than nine conditions today, some of

:59:42. > :59:49.the pin positions are nasty". -- there are far more benign conditions

:59:50. > :59:59.today. Some of the print pin positions are very cruel. That is a

:00:00. > :00:06.nice little putt. Par birdie. Come on, Charley Hoffman!

:00:07. > :00:20.Justin Rose's tee shot on the sixth, down to this back left pin position.

:00:21. > :00:33.Just left. Spectators coiled, ready to get out the way. Thomas Pieters

:00:34. > :00:35.now at the 3rd. One of the overnight leaders. This putt for a birdie.

:00:36. > :01:00.Quite a break on this. That is a need to putt. -- a more

:01:01. > :01:08.neat putt. Let's see what he can fashion here. He's trying to get it

:01:09. > :01:12.to the front bunker, but those branches are in front. He will chop

:01:13. > :01:18.it and hope for a miracle. He gets it. Say, that shouldn't happen, but

:01:19. > :01:23.it happens to some people. Right on the face of the bunker and for some

:01:24. > :01:32.reason, it popped up on the edge of the green. And welcome to the Paul

:01:33. > :01:40.Azinger, who joins me here. What you think of a shot like that? That

:01:41. > :01:46.didn't happen around here much ever. He will take it. What a putt for

:01:47. > :01:58.Rickie Fowler. He made a total mess of the 3rd hole. He only drops one

:01:59. > :02:02.shot. The old putter is a great equaliser, isn't it? He really

:02:03. > :02:11.played that hole poorly but got away with it. Come on, just a little.

:02:12. > :02:24.McGirt, just to collect. It is in. Well done. -- just tickle it. He has

:02:25. > :02:31.been around a long time, quietly making a decent living. Let's see if

:02:32. > :02:38.Pieters can clean up this putt at the 3rd. Well holed. He has the

:02:39. > :02:45.firepower to go around this golf course. He can dominate the par-5s.

:02:46. > :02:54.He has that steady demeanour, seems unflappable. Over to Mickelson at

:02:55. > :03:06.the 7th. Raised green, shallow, narrow green. Long but narrow. That

:03:07. > :03:10.pitch spins back of the green. No, it stops. Lucky, lucky. 20 yards

:03:11. > :03:33.short of the green. McIlroy at the 8th. A big par-5, up

:03:34. > :03:37.the hill. That is a big boomer. That is massive. Justin Rose with this

:03:38. > :03:48.delicate pitch, just back up the hill. He will probably try to land

:03:49. > :03:58.this on the green. He started that right at the hole... A bit of a

:03:59. > :04:09.misread there. Casey, at the 14th for a birdie. Long putt, though.

:04:10. > :04:21.Well, beautifully struck, and he's on a great run at the moment, Casey.

:04:22. > :04:25.He is creeping up through the field. Paul has got a good record here at

:04:26. > :04:29.Augusta here over the last few years, but Jason Day almost won this

:04:30. > :04:34.on his debut in 2011. He was out first day and has come home with a

:04:35. > :04:42.round of 69. In the middle, look at that, towards the back end a

:04:43. > :04:47.fantastic run of four birdies. Let's get Jason's thoughts on what is

:04:48. > :04:50.possible out there today. Everyone is expecting low scores on

:04:51. > :04:56.the weekend because of that conditions on the first two days.

:04:57. > :05:01.How hard was it to get your 69 today? I had a nice stretch from 12

:05:02. > :05:06.through to 15, so that definitely helps. I was playing some solid golf

:05:07. > :05:10.but not really capitalising on the opportunities I was giving myself

:05:11. > :05:17.out there, but once again, it was difficult. As the day goes on, it is

:05:18. > :05:23.starting to get a bit warmer. It will get to just over 70 C putt

:05:24. > :05:38.degrees today. Things are starting to run a bit more -- to just over 70

:05:39. > :05:41.degrees today. The greens were really receptive this morning and a

:05:42. > :05:46.little slower than what the guys will have this afternoon. Hazel

:05:47. > :05:50.Irvine: Let's factor all of that into the mix. We see that Charley

:05:51. > :05:53.Hoffman, having been in a four way lead at the start of the day, is now

:05:54. > :05:57.one ahead of the pack after that early birdie. Thomas Pieters has

:05:58. > :06:08.steadied himself to recover his ground at 4-under. The last Belgian

:06:09. > :06:17.to lead a major did it in the 1948 Open Championship. Paul Casey is

:06:18. > :06:21.4-under for his run today. This is the man who was tied six and tied

:06:22. > :06:25.fourth on the last two occasions here in Augusta. He is trending in

:06:26. > :06:35.the right direction. He was Charley Hoffman at the 3rd. -- here is

:06:36. > :06:45.Charley Hoffman at the 3rd. No stopping... That is a fair result

:06:46. > :06:53.from where he was. A very small area to pitch on. Thomas Pieters' tee

:06:54. > :07:01.shot away here at the 4th, and he doesn't like it. Oh, that will be...

:07:02. > :07:10.Actually, it is doable. It is on a slight upslope. Sergio Garcia.

:07:11. > :07:15.Second shot, he is 4-under. He flips it up high, and it needs to stop

:07:16. > :07:20.now. It doesn't. Again, it rolls on right past the hole. A chance for a

:07:21. > :07:43.birdie. Justin Rose, to save par era six. I

:07:44. > :07:53.thought he had it. Needed a nudge just a little harder. -- to save par

:07:54. > :07:59.here at six. He has been worried about his ability to get up and down

:08:00. > :08:04.around the greens here this week. Fowler at the 4th. 230 yards, it is

:08:05. > :08:27.plain today. It needs a good whack with a long iron Ouray Littlewood.

:08:28. > :08:35.-- or a little wood. Down the hill... Oh, and he gets a great

:08:36. > :08:45.bounce, and I believe he probably played for that balance. Will it

:08:46. > :08:49.stop? A good shot the Lee Westwood. Mickelson for a birdie at the 7th.

:08:50. > :09:26.It is not 1 million miles away. Phil is never dull. A safe par.

:09:27. > :09:30.Birdie, birdie, double bogey... Yes, can he do it? What a shot by Thomas

:09:31. > :09:40.Pieters, that little bit of upslope making all the difference there.

:09:41. > :09:46.Hoffman for three at the 3rd. Just touched it down and across the slug,

:09:47. > :10:00.staying out left. Sergio might have been watching that one closely.

:10:01. > :10:08.Look at the crowd, all sitting quietly. Huge crowds here again

:10:09. > :10:15.today, as they always are. Almost a miracle that Jordan Spieth's ball

:10:16. > :10:20.ended up here. Just the par for Jordan here at the seven. After that

:10:21. > :10:42.tee shot, I'm sure he's happy with par. Soren Kjeldsen at the 8th. He

:10:43. > :10:48.has done it. He is going along very nicely, 1-under par. Even reminds me

:10:49. > :10:55.a bit of Maurice Bembridge, for the older viewers. Let's see if westward

:10:56. > :11:05.can pay off the birdie year after that good shot at 11. In the back

:11:06. > :11:14.door? No! How does it end up there? It is defying gravity, isn't it? It

:11:15. > :11:23.is not moving. They only have ten seconds to watch it. But a good par

:11:24. > :11:28.for westward from that first cut of rough over there. A scary spot to be

:11:29. > :11:39.in at the 11. He needs to make a move, and quickly. -- at the 11th.

:11:40. > :11:53.Back to Sergio. Who has only dropped one shot so far. Pretty remarkable

:11:54. > :12:00.in the conditions on Thursday and Friday. One bogey. The most

:12:01. > :12:12.consistent. This is just down the left side. Hardly touched it. That

:12:13. > :12:25.one stayed straight. Rickie Fowler put his tee shot in

:12:26. > :12:40.the bunker here at the 4th. Blasted out to here. What a putter years. A

:12:41. > :12:51.birdie machine, Rickie Fowler is. -- what a putter he is. You have got to

:12:52. > :13:00.hole putts. William McGirt at the 5th. Second shot again, and the flag

:13:01. > :13:04.is in a flattish area. That is a good one. Unlucky that it didn't

:13:05. > :13:15.perhaps get a little bit more spent and sit down right by the hole. The

:13:16. > :13:24.wind is freshening. After a massive tee shot on eight, when for Green,

:13:25. > :13:36.it left. That is a wonderful shot. -- went for the green, pulled it

:13:37. > :13:49.left. Casey at the 15th. Having a great run. Very difficult to hold

:13:50. > :13:58.this green. Does that mean it is good or that it is drifting? Oh, no,

:13:59. > :14:18.what will he do now? Where is my money? -- mummy. North Carolina

:14:19. > :14:25.native William McGirt. A good colour and aggressive putt there. He locks

:14:26. > :14:34.it in. Suddenly, McGirt is now tied for second. Anyone who can win at

:14:35. > :14:42.Jack's places a good player. Now, Couples. The hero of the anvil

:14:43. > :15:08.chompers. Oh, Freddie! Charley Hoffman, 230 yards down the

:15:09. > :15:13.hill, going with a hybrid. There is no bailout here at the 4th day.

:15:14. > :15:21.Right at the flag is your only choice. And he has done just that.

:15:22. > :15:23.What a magnificent shot! By the leader, Charley Hoffman. That is the

:15:24. > :16:01.best we have seen, by a long way. A good putt. When the camera goes in

:16:02. > :16:09.close, look at the quality of grass on the green. Superb. Sergio now.

:16:10. > :16:12.230, probably playing closer to 225, maybe a little less than that. It is

:16:13. > :16:21.all carried to the front of the green.

:16:22. > :16:38.Still a mighty blow with a four iron. Great shot. A beauty. It might

:16:39. > :16:50.feedback now. There it goes. Two of the best of the day.

:16:51. > :17:09.Westward, two over. -- Lee Westwood. He has struck some beautiful shots

:17:10. > :17:12.today. Just watch how he settles. He takes his time. Slowly, deliberate

:17:13. > :17:25.backswing, and then right through the ball.

:17:26. > :17:40.Making it look easy. And the wonderful swing of Adam Scott,

:17:41. > :17:55.trying to foist this in the air. -- hoist.

:17:56. > :18:01.Rory McIlroy, for birdie at the 8th, after a very fine pitch. And he just

:18:02. > :18:22.gets it in. Beautifully done. Jordan Spieth's second shot here at

:18:23. > :18:26.eight. He will avoid the left side here if he can. Look at that. That

:18:27. > :18:32.might come right back onto the green. What a shock for Jordan

:18:33. > :18:39.Spieth. He will have no idea how close that is or how it got there.

:18:40. > :18:51.Totally blind second. Justin Rose at the seven. This is a tester, down

:18:52. > :19:02.and across the slope. Wide and past and going. This two putting,

:19:03. > :19:04.sometimes, if you are 10-12 yards away, it is quite an effort, quite a

:19:05. > :19:35.feat. Westwood, after that magnificent

:19:36. > :19:54.T-shirt, a huge bonus if he can pop this in. You don't see too many twos

:19:55. > :19:57.at the 12th. No, no, no. You could get a three in a quite ordinary

:19:58. > :20:01.fashion, that is a missed opportunity. He is playing so

:20:02. > :20:06.beautifully. Paul Casey knew when he saw where this ended up what he is

:20:07. > :20:12.faced with. Let's see how brave he can be. They are always bailing to

:20:13. > :20:16.the right, which is smart, because about four feet past that fly, the

:20:17. > :20:20.ball will go all the way down into the pond, then he would be forced to

:20:21. > :20:35.drop on the other side of that pond. It is still going. Wonderful crowd,

:20:36. > :20:39.so colourful, with the sun out. The speed of the greens is one thing

:20:40. > :20:46.here that makes this course. Ken has been having a look. No man better!

:20:47. > :20:50.It is the weekend, and I am on a green at Augusta again. Today, they

:20:51. > :20:56.are quicker, certainly than the first two backgrounds. They have had

:20:57. > :21:02.the most just sucked out. I will hit a couple of putts. Let's see where

:21:03. > :21:05.they end up. One up there, one at a slightly different angle. Let's just

:21:06. > :21:11.see where they go. They keep running, running, running. It is

:21:12. > :21:15.almost going like a 90 degrees curve. The balls just hug along. You

:21:16. > :21:24.think they will stop, but trickle on and on. With this speed up and the

:21:25. > :21:33.greens a little firmer, you can get some adventurous putts. It is

:21:34. > :21:41.heaven. A strange idea of heaven! Depending on your attitude! Justin

:21:42. > :21:43.Rose, to save par here at the 7th. Not a lot in this. Confidently

:21:44. > :22:03.holed. Casey now at the 15th. He will

:22:04. > :22:08.settle for five. If it falls in, that's a huge bonus, but don't try

:22:09. > :22:13.and be too fancy. The flag is way over on the far side of your screen

:22:14. > :22:26.on the left. Quite a bit of swing from the left, but it is this speed.

:22:27. > :22:33.-- the speed. That looks a good speed. Beautifully done. Once he had

:22:34. > :22:54.gone through the green, you are happy with a five, which is a par.

:22:55. > :23:03.McIlroy's second shot at nine. The hole is at the back left of the

:23:04. > :23:06.green, sitting at a 45 degrees angle to the players. He has to carry the

:23:07. > :23:11.bunkers if he is going to go right at it. He has played a little safe,

:23:12. > :23:22.going for the middle tier, giving him an uphill putt. Mickelson, one

:23:23. > :23:27.of his master chip shots, though that has got away from him. He would

:23:28. > :23:43.have been expecting better than that. An artist's paradise. Here is

:23:44. > :23:50.Beith. -- here is Jordan Spieth. He has tweaked it left. It squirted up

:23:51. > :23:59.and off the bank. Hit well, good result. Great result.

:24:00. > :24:17.APPLAUSE Finally, we get to Charley Hoffman,

:24:18. > :24:26.on this birdie opportunity on the fourth after a wonderful hybrid to

:24:27. > :24:29.hear. Oh, yes! A lot of conversation about Hoffman, tied for the lead

:24:30. > :24:33.after two backgrounds. But he's not scared, and he has been here before.

:24:34. > :24:44.Just two years ago, he played in the last group. Rickie Fowler, on the

:24:45. > :24:57.fifth. Look at this. Another one rights to the holeside. Beautifully

:24:58. > :25:05.judged. Sergio now, to cover up his playing partner. A weak effort by

:25:06. > :25:08.Sergio. And that is three shortage birdie putts in a row that have

:25:09. > :25:11.gotten away from Sergio Garcia at the start of this Saturday. Pieters

:25:12. > :25:34.at the 5th. -- three kind of short. Very underrated hole, the fifth, I

:25:35. > :25:39.think. This is really fast. Just touches it. It's not going to break.

:25:40. > :25:47.It never breaks. It is one of the strait is putts on the golf course.

:25:48. > :26:01.You cannot believe it. Wow, he says. -- one of the straightest putts on

:26:02. > :26:11.the golf course. Paul Casey at the 16th, 1-under par. The flag today,

:26:12. > :26:21.17 on, four in on the right on that top shelf. Not easy to get to.

:26:22. > :26:34.Some may settle for the middle of the green and cut back up the hill

:26:35. > :26:40.... It could have come another seven or eight yards towards us, but it

:26:41. > :26:50.rolls back down. That has left in a treacherous left-to-right putt. It

:26:51. > :27:03.is difficult to get close. They are way from pay dirt here. Rory

:27:04. > :27:09.McIlroy, up the hill. One of those left back down the hill. There is

:27:10. > :27:14.nothing easy out here. Conditions are perfect, but the course still

:27:15. > :27:23.has teeth. You cannot relax for a minute out here. You will pay a

:27:24. > :27:28.heavy price. It always intrigues me with McIlroy, I don't think I have

:27:29. > :27:33.ever seen him take a practice putting stroke. Whatever the putt,

:27:34. > :27:36.he steps up and knocks it. If he hits one of his usual ones, a bit

:27:37. > :27:43.sharp, and catches the edge of the hole, he could be off the front of

:27:44. > :27:45.the green. He tiptoed it in. A good save par-4. A bit of an up and down

:27:46. > :28:01.nine holes. Level par. McGirt for par here at six. Made a

:28:02. > :28:04.putt about this length on for birdie. Oh, and he tried to walk it

:28:05. > :28:24.in. Phil Mickelson... That's not a hole

:28:25. > :28:37.you want to be dropping strokes on. He missed FPU short ones on the back

:28:38. > :28:45.nine yesterday. A momentum buster. -- he missed a few short ones. A

:28:46. > :28:57.mere formality here for McGirt at the 6th. Lost a shot here and drops

:28:58. > :29:06.back to 3-under par. He was Hoffman at the 5th. You want to go right at

:29:07. > :29:14.the flag. There's no bailout. He's leaning... And it's OK. Yeah, it's

:29:15. > :29:19.all right. It's just, you don't want to be short there at the 5th. You

:29:20. > :29:22.almost have no chance of getting up and down. Par is a good score on

:29:23. > :29:37.that hole. Further down the course with a

:29:38. > :29:41.beautiful looking parsecs. Pin on the back of the green at the left.

:29:42. > :29:56.Very hard to get it to bounce forward. -- ... Sergio has driven it

:29:57. > :30:01.up the left-hand side on five. There is a little peer that sticks out. If

:30:02. > :30:05.you missed the left or right, you cannot make the carry. It is a very

:30:06. > :30:10.small they are, almost impossible to get. There was almost a peninsular

:30:11. > :30:12.within the green. You can see the flag there at the base of that pine

:30:13. > :30:31.tree. This is a high launch. That's OK. If it carried another

:30:32. > :30:35.three yards, on the down slope, often it pings into the magnolia

:30:36. > :30:58.bushes. A massive fairway here at the 9th.

:30:59. > :31:02.For the players, a Bland blinding areas -- plan. A second shot up the

:31:03. > :31:20.hill. The perfect spot to come in from. -- blind landing area. The top

:31:21. > :31:27.of Justin Rose's hit. This could be, just a chip to the left, slightly

:31:28. > :31:30.catching the wrong side. Six feet up the green and it wouldn't have

:31:31. > :31:37.rolled back. A good spot for the par-5. Westwood, the hole is all the

:31:38. > :31:39.way in the back left corner of the green. This is a brave effort,

:31:40. > :31:45.2-over par, now is the time. And he just missed it. Just missed.

:31:46. > :32:06.It's likely in the water. Casey with a tasty putt. Quite a

:32:07. > :32:17.decent tear, a gradual tear, halfway along the length of the putt as a

:32:18. > :32:19.turtle dives in the water. Slow. -- tier. Slower than you think. He has

:32:20. > :32:37.judged it pretty well. Not bad. That will test his nerve. Rickie

:32:38. > :32:42.Fowler up the hill here at six. It looked like his ball settled in 20

:32:43. > :32:46.feet or so from the hole. It cut away, and the next thing you know, a

:32:47. > :32:56.45 footer up the hill. A good putt for Rickie Fowler. He is looking

:32:57. > :33:02.good on the greens. Very aggressive with the putter. Spieth, can he get

:33:03. > :33:10.it on the edge of the ninth? Perfect tee shot. So difficult to do just

:33:11. > :33:18.that. That is a magnificent iron shot. Write down the throat of the

:33:19. > :33:21.flag. That pin gives very few birdies away. Suddenly, Jordan

:33:22. > :33:35.Spieth right in the mix. Let's see if Sergio can nuzzle this

:33:36. > :33:41.up close. He has missed three in a row, make able birdie putts. It is

:33:42. > :33:52.like a comfortable duvet, very difficult to hold a long putt on.

:33:53. > :34:06.How do you do! ?! The unexpected pleasure pays Sergio a visit. He

:34:07. > :34:12.could just as easily be four circles in a row. Well done, Sergio. What

:34:13. > :34:19.will it take the Sergio Garcia to come through? It is going to take

:34:20. > :34:23.putts like that, I feel. You cannot win Championships with your ball

:34:24. > :34:37.striking, you have got to hole putts. Pieters hitting this one on

:34:38. > :34:42.the sick. Needs a bit of beef. -- the sixth. You don't want to hit it

:34:43. > :34:51.a yard by because it is such a smelly return.

:34:52. > :34:58.Adam Scott from miles away here for eagle.

:34:59. > :35:07.Up the hill, downhill, across the hill a little bit.

:35:08. > :35:12.The flag a little parcel shelf on the back of the green, a narrow

:35:13. > :35:26.ledge. Sergio showed Charley Hoffman the

:35:27. > :35:34.way. Good effort. Steady even Mac for Hofmann on the difficult fifth.

:35:35. > :35:46.One clear of Sergio at the moment. Two clear of Rickie Fowler, and a

:35:47. > :35:50.host of players on 3-under par. -- steady par for Hofmann.

:35:51. > :36:03.On the tenth hole, McIlroy. Coming out of the right pine

:36:04. > :36:09.needles, tricky to the right pin. He will take that. The pin on the

:36:10. > :36:10.bright side, you have got to flirt with the right bunker to get close

:36:11. > :36:25.to it, but OK. Justin Rose up the hill. This for

:36:26. > :36:30.eagle. Has he? Know, but a great putt. A good two putt for Justin

:36:31. > :36:40.Rose. He will be back in red figures.

:36:41. > :36:48.One of those putts, you know it's left edge or just outside the left

:36:49. > :37:07.edge. It is about picking the pace. You just feel like you have to pick

:37:08. > :37:13.the speed you want it to go in, the angle may be even on a clock, that's

:37:14. > :37:21.the way you want to come in, 7pm or maybe 8pm, really fast.

:37:22. > :37:27.What a two putt for Paul Casey. Pure as the driven snow, that one. What a

:37:28. > :37:43.beauty. I gave him this a second ago. He

:37:44. > :37:56.doesn't prove me wrong. A good bogey for Justin.

:37:57. > :38:02.Missed one from this sort of distance on the 12th, a testy one

:38:03. > :38:15.through the shadows on the shelf on the 13th.

:38:16. > :38:27.Westwood must have stopped on the bank of blasted this from the Palm,

:38:28. > :38:31.this foreboding. Oh, yes. A bit more grass on that green this morning,

:38:32. > :38:34.particularly on the bank on the green side than their normally is.

:38:35. > :38:39.It is a bit briskly. Lee got a massive break there.

:38:40. > :38:46.Just trying to chop a 7-iron, can he get his ball back to the pin? He is

:38:47. > :38:51.admiring it. Write down the throat, good line. As you say, it is right

:38:52. > :38:57.where you want to be, but actually, it is going to trickle away. Missing

:38:58. > :39:00.by a foot or two of having that Ball stay there. That will be tough. So

:39:01. > :39:08.slow back up that hill. Scott, eighth green. 1-under, this

:39:09. > :39:21.is to move to 2-under. A past champion here. We are

:39:22. > :39:23.starting to see a few red figures, mainly on the par fives, but

:39:24. > :39:35.occasionally on the others. Hofmann down the hill here at six.

:39:36. > :39:46.Another punchy looking follow through. Will that state? -- stay.

:39:47. > :39:52.No, that is going to funnel back down. Understandable, though. You

:39:53. > :39:57.just don't want to be passed but hole here.

:39:58. > :40:01.HAZEL IRVINE: A reminder of how things stand. Charley Hoffman has

:40:02. > :40:06.been leading this tournament since day one after an opening 65, and he

:40:07. > :40:11.doesn't look like budging so far with a 1-shot advantage over Sergio

:40:12. > :40:17.Garcia. Rickie Fowler as you were the level. The best progress amongst

:40:18. > :40:23.those who are chasing is from Jordan Spieth. Look at that, 3-under for

:40:24. > :40:27.today. A man that has a real point to prove after a collapse coming

:40:28. > :40:31.home when it was in his grasp last year is right in the thick of it.

:40:32. > :40:35.William McGirt, not going anywhere, 1-under for his round. Thomas

:40:36. > :40:43.Pieters, great to see the Belgian up there, too.

:40:44. > :41:00.Plus four. A bit up and down but making some birdies and some bogeys.

:41:01. > :41:04.What an experience for the amateur. Staying up in the Crowsnest, the

:41:05. > :41:11.little area where there are a few basic facilities.

:41:12. > :41:20.William McGirt ran into a little trouble here at the 7th, this

:41:21. > :41:29.downhill for a par. What a putt! What a putt.

:41:30. > :41:39.I believe that feels every good as -- every bit as good as a birdie.

:41:40. > :41:47.Looking from the left side of the sixth green, it gives you a sort of

:41:48. > :41:52.feel of an uphill incline. He has got to go up. About as good an angle

:41:53. > :42:04.to cut from, but it is a distance away. Not too much break in it.

:42:05. > :42:13.I always feel it is a real indicator of how a player feels on the greens

:42:14. > :42:15.as to how his speed is on putts like that. Woefully short. Let's go over

:42:16. > :42:25.to the tenth now, Jordan Spieth. He does not like this tee shot. He

:42:26. > :42:31.has never liked it. Sit down, ball. Sit down.

:42:32. > :42:36.In Bubba country. He will have to get lucky. The hole is back right

:42:37. > :42:41.will stop Jordan wants to get that on the green and out of there.

:42:42. > :42:46.Perfect conditions here for the Masters, the sun is out, hardly a

:42:47. > :42:46.cloud in the sky, nice temperatures, not too much breeze about.

:42:47. > :43:02.Delightful. Hofmann's ball has the brakes on,

:43:03. > :43:07.too. If you have a three footer down the hill, it is pretty smelly. I

:43:08. > :43:13.liked that description. From the left-hand rough on seven, almost no

:43:14. > :43:20.chance to put this on the putting surface.

:43:21. > :43:30.That has shot off to the right. The patrons have been walking. He is at

:43:31. > :43:33.the mercy now of the bounce of the ball and the kind of lie he will

:43:34. > :43:44.get. I feel this is an important putt for

:43:45. > :43:50.Sergio. He made the long, unexpected bomb on the last, but this will be

:43:51. > :43:56.important for his psyche. He does die the putts in. He has got to make

:43:57. > :44:01.sure he is firm. If he misses it, it is a putt that should go a foot past

:44:02. > :44:05.the cut, otherwise it will dribble off hole side.

:44:06. > :44:19.A good, aggressive putt by Sergio, a one-handed fist pump.

:44:20. > :44:31.McIlroy down the hill at ten. That's a nice putt. Nice one at the 9th,

:44:32. > :44:32.good one at the 10th, ten, 11th, 12, over the years, they haven't been

:44:33. > :44:47.terribly kind to Rory. Casey... A little high point in the

:44:48. > :44:53.green, uphill and down the other side. Not too bad. Casey plays most

:44:54. > :44:57.of his golf on the PGA Tour these days, hardly ever comes back to

:44:58. > :45:03.Europe. We will see what Thomas Pieters can do. Anything left of the

:45:04. > :45:08.flag goes left. Anything right of the flag goes right. Off the green

:45:09. > :45:14.in most cases. We'll see if it stays. Right along the collar there.

:45:15. > :45:28.That is a very, very difficult putt. I'm sure it's been done before, but

:45:29. > :45:29.Charley Hoffman, making a two at all the par fours, doesn't happen often.

:45:30. > :45:58.Around in 65. That putt, you have got to be

:45:59. > :46:02.authoritative. If you Dolly it... McIlroy at 11. He will give this a

:46:03. > :46:26.mighty lash. A massive fairway. Wow McIlroy making his way to Amen

:46:27. > :46:28.Corner, let's have a look. There's no nicer place to be than on Amen

:46:29. > :46:59.Corner when the sun is out. It's just useful. It doesn't need

:47:00. > :47:07.words. No, it doesn't, Ken. No words at

:47:08. > :47:14.all. Rickie Fowler. A little more check than he legislated for.

:47:15. > :47:19.Pieters and Rickie Fowler putting from opposite directions, both have

:47:20. > :47:26.the same dilemma, uphill and downhill. If they were both walked

:47:27. > :47:31.off the green with two putts, babe would be very pleased. -- they would

:47:32. > :47:38.be very pleased. The seventh, one of the more difficult tee shot, if not

:47:39. > :47:41.the most difficulty shot here at Augusta. Extremely tight.

:47:42. > :48:01.Needs to be a 3-iron and a sand wedge to the seventh. Driver,

:48:02. > :48:08.9-iron, or driver, wedge. Trying to peel it from left to right. Almost

:48:09. > :48:15.impossible to get it on the green if you miss this fairway.

:48:16. > :48:21.Rickie Fowler uphill, most of the way, and then it flattens out to the

:48:22. > :48:34.cut. Well done. A bit orbit stronger and

:48:35. > :48:41.you go to feet past, it goes down the hill. Well judged. Spieth's

:48:42. > :48:47.second at ten. He must have hit a dictator. 196 yards. Easy, settle.

:48:48. > :48:56.-- hit a spectator. There you see what he is dealing

:48:57. > :49:11.with now. Here we go, Ken. I don't know if he

:49:12. > :49:19.can spin this and get it close, or not. You can't see the green, it's

:49:20. > :49:31.about eight feet above you. You can only see the surface.

:49:32. > :49:49.Such a sensational shot. Ten out of 13 up and downs when he has missed

:49:50. > :49:57.the greens this week, it says everything. I always found it

:49:58. > :50:05.difficult to hit a short -- to hit 80 shot after missing a short putt.

:50:06. > :50:08.He does it really nicely. -- to hit a tee shot after missing a short

:50:09. > :50:18.putt. A good angle to putt from at the

:50:19. > :50:26.night for Justin Rose. Straight up the slope.

:50:27. > :50:34.Fiddling about with his putting grip, the way he holds the putter.

:50:35. > :50:46.McIlroy bombed it here at the 11th. This hole is only seven from the

:50:47. > :50:53.left, 17 on. Got to be out to write a little. He goes right at it. A

:50:54. > :51:01.terrific shot for McIlroy. That has got to be the best of the day.

:51:02. > :51:03.Amazing, this one uphill, too. A bit steep at up the hill. Pieters at the

:51:04. > :51:23.7th. Good effort. Freddie does it with confidence.

:51:24. > :51:29.Nice little birdie at the 8th, right, said Fred.

:51:30. > :51:35.Justin with this tickler down the hill at nine.

:51:36. > :52:07.I think it's just too far away from him when he is looking at the hole

:52:08. > :52:10.for the putt. I have never heard about how Jordan struggles on putts

:52:11. > :52:14.of this length, but he doesn't miss many. When a player is looking at

:52:15. > :52:25.the hole, you figure something is going on in his head. See if he look

:52:26. > :52:29.sad hole here. -- if he looks at the hole here. Yes, he did. It is

:52:30. > :52:37.interesting, you take a peek at the hole, then look down. His last peak

:52:38. > :52:51.stayed locked on the hole. Now Maggert, excuse me, Hofmann. --

:52:52. > :53:02.Will it stay? Another foot or so and it would have been 25 or more feet

:53:03. > :53:11.away. Instead, a good birdie opportunity. Freddie's 57 but he

:53:12. > :53:19.still gets it out there. Second to the ninth, up the hill. I wish we

:53:20. > :53:26.could all have as bad a back as Freddie, huh? Unlucky, that was

:53:27. > :53:30.close to being great. Here is so Jeb's dilemma. It was where Rickie

:53:31. > :53:39.Fowler was a member, losing it to the right to hook it. -- Sergio's

:53:40. > :53:48.dilemma. Best miss front bunker? I think the front bunker is the best

:53:49. > :53:54.miss, Ken. That is what he is going for and he didn't reach. Got hung up

:53:55. > :54:01.in the first cut. That is exactly where he was trying to go.

:54:02. > :54:08.We can still see his ball. Didn't quite see the ball. He will be

:54:09. > :54:37.praying he has an upside there. An enormous tee shot. A bit of spin

:54:38. > :54:42.on this. If you much, it even hole side, it will come back to you. You

:54:43. > :54:51.need a softer three quarters shot. Middle terrace if it stops. Well,

:54:52. > :54:59.McIlroy blasted his tee shot down the 11th with a wonderful second

:55:00. > :55:04.here. A delicate downhill, left to right putt. Barely touched it. Oh...

:55:05. > :55:15.He just caught the high side. Even when used if it at Augusta

:55:16. > :55:16.National, you still have a difficult effort, a difficult putt. Spieth at

:55:17. > :55:26.11. -- even when you stiff it at Augusta

:55:27. > :55:41.National. Some of his players have been

:55:42. > :55:50.answered, not all of them. He has found a bit of an upslope. He needs

:55:51. > :55:55.eight those of Seve here. If he has a good lie, he can clip this. The

:55:56. > :56:01.green is facing him. Looking into an upslope, not terribly inviting. You

:56:02. > :56:07.need a good nerve. There is nothing easy about it, but it could be done.

:56:08. > :56:18.The grass has a bit of a sheen to it. It makes it even more do able.

:56:19. > :56:22.He has two double up and go hands back, face open. He went for a

:56:23. > :56:24.little trick shot. I guarantee he didn't like his lie.

:56:25. > :56:40.That has been the problem there. Ryan Moore, the green looking a bit

:56:41. > :56:44.more burnished than earlier in the day, a few more Brown patches. We

:56:45. > :56:56.first saw Bryan in 2003. -- Ryan. Anyone who has played this has left

:56:57. > :57:06.himself with this one. William McGirt, long birdie putt at

:57:07. > :57:25.eight. Beautiful. Just trickling on. Going

:57:26. > :57:30.through the stubbly fringe, you know you must make it onto the short

:57:31. > :57:46.stuff. It is so easy to give it just a fraction more.

:57:47. > :57:54.Here we are on the 12th hole, and Rory McIlroy trying to decide what

:57:55. > :57:57.he has to do. Earlier, Kevin Brown looked at the pin position on the

:57:58. > :58:04.12th. Looking across the water is the 12th

:58:05. > :58:08.tee back, playing 142 yards today. The pin is cut on the left side, a

:58:09. > :58:14.small piece of parting surface. One, two, three, four, five small paces

:58:15. > :58:19.from the front of the green, about eight behind, room behind. If you

:58:20. > :58:23.come up short at all, if it hit the bank with a slight Mr John, a

:58:24. > :58:29.downslope can run back into the water. It depends how much spin you

:58:30. > :58:37.have on it. Miss the green on the left and it pitches here. It is in

:58:38. > :58:42.with the turtles. So what are the tactics today? 142 yards, not much

:58:43. > :58:45.more than a pitching wedge, you feel like a coward playing away from the

:58:46. > :58:50.flag, but the percentage play is to play to the right of the flag, five

:58:51. > :58:54.yards. If you play short, rather than in the water, you are in the

:58:55. > :58:59.bunker. You have a chance of getting down in two from there. The widest

:59:00. > :59:05.point of the green, not that wide, 13 or 14 paces deep, but that is the

:59:06. > :59:11.percentage play. White of the flag, long and there is room to work with.

:59:12. > :59:14.If you take the flag on, the possibility is therefore a

:59:15. > :59:20.misjudgement. Argue going to be a coward, or are you going to be

:59:21. > :59:34.brave? -- are you going to be a coward.

:59:35. > :59:43.Well, not bad. Didn't quite get it right. Taking the flag on, but he is

:59:44. > :59:59.making a charge. Over to seven now, Sergio Fitt par. -- Sergio for par.

:00:00. > :00:25.To the ninth. Jon Rahm. He leads to give it a good hit up the slope.

:00:26. > :00:32.You get so scared of quick putts for so longer then you get an uphill and

:00:33. > :00:41.cannot believe sometimes how hard you have to hit it.

:00:42. > :00:50.The co-leader, Charley Hoffman. The chance of a three.

:00:51. > :00:58.He is looking pretty steady at the moment. Peter Alliss is back with

:00:59. > :01:09.us. I find it fascinating watching them jockeying for position. Holding

:01:10. > :01:14.ground, rattles one in. Tomorrow, I fancy, is going to be... It usually

:01:15. > :01:20.is a fantastic day, because so many things can happen. This is one of

:01:21. > :01:27.the most treacherous holes. It used to be a driver, 6-iron, something

:01:28. > :01:33.like that, now it is a monster drive. Very treacherous, very

:01:34. > :01:39.difficult. The flag is in a fairly generous position. You can see from

:01:40. > :01:47.middle. Where has that gone? He looks anxious and he should be.

:01:48. > :01:52.Lucky boy. The golfing gods are with speed. They must smile down on his

:01:53. > :02:07.cherub face. He has it! The crowd way away on the

:02:08. > :02:21.12th. Cut off from the noise a bit. McIlroy back to level par. Casey.

:02:22. > :02:29.Oh, Paul, what are you doing back their? Come on, a nice pitch and a

:02:30. > :02:37.putt. All your friends in Surrey. It will go back. Look at that.

:02:38. > :02:51.You have no idea how difficult these greens are. He was away four, five

:02:52. > :02:56.yards short but does not deserve to be cricket pitch length away.

:02:57. > :03:09.It is not a bad bogey. Slips back to four.

:03:10. > :03:14.Rickie Fowler at the 8th. Third shot, way back.

:03:15. > :03:21.The flag is at the back. He has a nice one. Could have done with a

:03:22. > :03:45.bounce forward. Jason Dufner. Long putt for birdie

:03:46. > :03:58.on the 14th. Playing alongside Ernie Els today. Has it, has it! Look at

:03:59. > :04:08.that back nine. Three birdies in five holes. 1-under. Justin Rose at

:04:09. > :04:13.the 10th and a good second shot. Big swinging left-to-right here. If you

:04:14. > :04:27.go a bit hard, it can chase on down the hill. That'll be a little bit

:04:28. > :04:32.too bold. Westwood sizing up the second on the 15th. 215 yards. The

:04:33. > :04:38.first couple of days straight into the wind but today, players able to

:04:39. > :04:50.get them reasonably comfortably in two. It is a big, long iron. Not a

:04:51. > :04:53.lot of room. Downhill a little bit. Watch the slow deliberate backswing

:04:54. > :05:03.and then right through the ball if he gets a good one. Not sure. Not

:05:04. > :05:12.sure. Safe. There are worse places to be down there. -- a there.

:05:13. > :05:33.Solid enough par to start the back nine.

:05:34. > :05:41.Casey's ball went way back down the hill, but this is for a four. Fourth

:05:42. > :05:48.shot at the final hole. He is 1-under. He is going to have more

:05:49. > :06:02.than one of those. A 12 footer. Jordan Spieth between the flag and

:06:03. > :06:09.the water. Can he take advantage of that fortune?

:06:10. > :06:42.Hoffman. Drive on the eighth. The bunker down the right.

:06:43. > :06:50.He is hitting the ball beautifully. He has been around a few years. He

:06:51. > :06:54.used to have long blonde hair. Many of you may remember that. Spieth for

:06:55. > :07:17.par. It is a great walk from the 11th up

:07:18. > :07:21.to the 12th. It is when there are people here. When you come and there

:07:22. > :07:26.is nobody here, you wonder what the fuss is about because it is just a

:07:27. > :07:31.huge expanse of mown grass. Almost like a playing field with a pond and

:07:32. > :07:37.bit of water and a couple of bunkers. It does not look exciting.

:07:38. > :07:43.When the human herbaceous borders are there, it looks different.

:07:44. > :07:47.Spieth last year. Hitting the tee shot. Looks a little bit

:07:48. > :07:55.disappointed, but even more disappointed when he sees it go into

:07:56. > :08:02.the water. And then mishaps and miscalculations, mis-hits. Very

:08:03. > :08:08.expensive learning curve. He took it back beyond the official drop zone

:08:09. > :08:13.to get a good yardage. That was it. Done and dusted. You always do

:08:14. > :08:20.things that you think are right at the time. It looks so simple. It

:08:21. > :08:27.really looks so simple. You just knock it on the green. A good grip.

:08:28. > :08:35.He wants a good grip. He is obviously twitchy, remembering last

:08:36. > :08:42.year. But it looks the simplest thing in the world. A little bit of

:08:43. > :08:53.wind against and a cross from the right. Sit down!

:08:54. > :09:05.It was a bold shot. Really, really easy shot. I just said that! He

:09:06. > :09:18.thought it was easy, too. Fowler for his four on eight. The camera

:09:19. > :09:26.shutters go off, the ball drops. Fowler, to 4-under. Just one behind

:09:27. > :09:31.Hoffman now. Bouncing about in those high tops. He says he tries to drop

:09:32. > :09:38.his pace at the weekend at the Masters because then he will just go

:09:39. > :09:43.into fast forward mode, gets a little bit excited. You do not see

:09:44. > :09:47.many tennis players doing that at the cross over boy. Laughing and

:09:48. > :09:53.saying, where are you going for supper tonight? I don't know. That

:09:54. > :10:03.little Italian plays? Now, Peters for par. Got it.

:10:04. > :10:15.A very droll fellow is Mr Peters. The driest of the dry, he is.

:10:16. > :10:20.Deadpan. Very funny. Moore up the hill and in. A few putts starting to

:10:21. > :10:39.drop. Isn't that a wonderful setting? The

:10:40. > :10:48.majestic pines. Second shot to the tenth. Blue sky. Not a cloud to be

:10:49. > :10:52.seen. The ball tip toes... No, it doesn't. It is a beautiful second

:10:53. > :11:00.shot. William McGirt.

:11:01. > :11:12.Moving quickly. As soon as he hit it. Still a good front nine when he

:11:13. > :11:22.taps that in. Sergio up the hill at the 8th. Second shot. That is

:11:23. > :11:31.flirting with the trees on the left. As he cut it, gone straight? Here it

:11:32. > :11:38.comes. Found its way through the pine needles and onto the green. He

:11:39. > :11:48.does not know that. Casey, can he finish by dropping just one shot?

:11:49. > :11:55.Well done. A good five in the end for Casey and a good round. Taking

:11:56. > :12:07.him back to level par. An outside chance. 13th tee, Rory.

:12:08. > :12:14.Over the corner of the trees. An atomic charge, that one. Is it over

:12:15. > :12:15.the top? Is it over the top? Just beyond the shadows. Nearly in the

:12:16. > :12:22.next county. McGirt. A tap-in for his par. Memorial

:12:23. > :12:40.champion last year. What interests me is how wide his

:12:41. > :12:46.stance is for these little shots. Not just for that one on the slight

:12:47. > :12:51.downhill, but normally very wide. He doesn't look comfortable. Fowler

:12:52. > :13:10.does that preset, settles in. Good drive. Astonishing position he

:13:11. > :13:20.gets into at the top of his swing, Fowler.

:13:21. > :13:31.This was the third, that was for bogey. He has been stroking it quite

:13:32. > :13:35.nicely with the putter. That is what you have to do around Augusta, as

:13:36. > :13:44.Spieth did last year, until his horrors, he was hitting it ropily

:13:45. > :13:58.but finding the cup. He certainly putted remarkably well.

:13:59. > :14:06.Charlie Hoffman. Steady, steady, steady. Never quite sure when they

:14:07. > :14:13.stop. It did eventually. Couples. Fighting for his party on

:14:14. > :14:40.the tenth. And a woodpecker there. He slips back to one. Still just

:14:41. > :14:48.inside the top ten. Spieth. This putt for three. Through the green.

:14:49. > :14:55.Not a great chip back but all will be forgiven if this disappears.

:14:56. > :15:01.Never looked like anything else. I tell you, if they could not putt,

:15:02. > :15:09.they would hurdle the 70s and go straight into the 80s. Phil

:15:10. > :15:19.Mickelson, he is back to 3-over. Westwood, up and down for birdie. So

:15:20. > :15:25.quick away from him. That is a beautiful shot.

:15:26. > :15:53.Sergio at the 8th. A slowish putt. Right-to-left, Marc Pugh come. He

:15:54. > :16:00.has left it short. -- up you come. He is honing in. Fowler.

:16:01. > :16:13.All the way back today. Very difficult to get it back to that

:16:14. > :16:19.flag, the pin all the way back. These greens used to be Bermuda.

:16:20. > :16:28.They changed them in 1981. Slower grass. I think the course was

:16:29. > :16:35.designed for slower greens in all truth, but do not tell them.

:16:36. > :16:43.Westwood for birdie. That was very well done. Conjured up a magical

:16:44. > :16:55.shot from the sand. Happy days. Thomas Pieters, big

:16:56. > :17:04.drive. Can he get it back to this pin? Yes, good shot. They sit around

:17:05. > :17:09.this green and they know, they have seen it before. That was a good

:17:10. > :17:15.shot. Pretty much pin high. I think that is bordering on unfair. I don't

:17:16. > :17:20.see the point in that, but there we are. A lot of good fortune you have

:17:21. > :17:38.to have to win around here. This is the chance to break away

:17:39. > :17:40.from a tie with Garcia. Jon Rahm at the 10th, just touched it down the

:17:41. > :17:55.hill. Did not touch it enough. Rather gave the game away because

:17:56. > :18:00.this was to get into a tie for the lead with Hoffman. Garcia. Alongside

:18:01. > :18:06.his playing partner at the top of the board. It is a good-looking

:18:07. > :18:14.leaderboard, as well. It is beginning to look nice and tidy and

:18:15. > :18:21.tight for tomorrow. Jordan Spieth is going well, congratulations to him

:18:22. > :18:26.for recovering from a couple of golfing disasters. He always looks a

:18:27. > :18:33.bit worried, as if he is not quite sure where it has gone. It might be

:18:34. > :18:38.all right. Justin Rose from the front of the 11th. 500 yard par

:18:39. > :19:00.four. It bobbled on him. Stevie Williams, the caddy for Adam

:19:01. > :19:06.Scott. Westwood at 16. This very slow putt up the slope. He volleyed

:19:07. > :19:21.that up there. Perfect conditions for scoring today

:19:22. > :19:30.but the greens are starting to get a bit more fire in them. This to save

:19:31. > :19:42.par. Well done, you have to do that. Around here you have to hole some

:19:43. > :19:46.ten footers for par. Westwood, having come off the slope with his

:19:47. > :19:53.tee shot and finishing at the bottom of the green has this almost

:19:54. > :19:59.6-foot... What a good review. Look at the quality of the grass. Doesn't

:20:00. > :20:07.that look beautiful? Wouldn't you like a lawn like that at home? All

:20:08. > :20:17.the way. Lovely touch, well done, good save. U2- part a green and you

:20:18. > :20:30.walk off with a sigh of relief. A nice inward nine he is putting

:20:31. > :20:43.together. BT says somebody. -- beauty. Cantering down there.

:20:44. > :20:57.Watch this drop inside. A user football striker. An anxious stare

:20:58. > :20:59.but he knows. The fans were not sure because it was tight down the left,

:21:00. > :21:04.but he knew, so he told them. Rickie. Ninth hole, Fowler. Uphill.

:21:05. > :21:25.Slope. Goodspeed for two pars. McIlroy,

:21:26. > :21:41.second, enormous drive, like Bubba Watson, over the trees.

:21:42. > :21:47.He would have been thinking about the eagle and now it is a tricky one

:21:48. > :21:58.for birdie from our and down from there. Peters, playing with Rickie

:21:59. > :22:04.Fowler. Similar putts. They looked magnificent. The quality of the

:22:05. > :22:12.turf, the putting and reading of the green is so difficult.

:22:13. > :22:21.Out in 37. Won over. -- one over. This is a tester. Watch where he

:22:22. > :22:34.aims this. Ryan Moore, just dab it down.

:22:35. > :22:39.Halfway between him and the edge of the green.

:22:40. > :22:49.LAUGHTER. He just didn't get it quite right.

:22:50. > :22:54.It is only fractions and now you are made to look silly. Someone in the

:22:55. > :22:55.crowd would say, that is the sort of thing I do.

:22:56. > :23:08.McIlroy, a lofted club. It sounded clean but just died on

:23:09. > :23:11.the first bounce into that slight upslope.

:23:12. > :23:17.A magnificent tee shot, good-looking second which just goes the wrong way

:23:18. > :23:25.and he will probably take five. Justin Rose, two short holes on the

:23:26. > :23:33.inward nine. Flag today on the left-hand side. Murmuring in the

:23:34. > :23:44.crowd. Online. Beautiful shot from Justin Rose.

:23:45. > :24:05.Sit down, ball. Softly, softly. That is a stunning shot from Jordan

:24:06. > :24:14.Spieth. One of the best. We saw Phil Mickelson do it in 2010. Rory

:24:15. > :24:15.McIlroy can only make his five and remains level par and Spieth, that

:24:16. > :24:37.was a beauty. This for par, no. A few cracks

:24:38. > :24:54.appearing, but he is still near the head of affairs.

:24:55. > :25:02.From here it is difficult to pick out the flag sometimes with the

:25:03. > :25:04.crowd behind and the red and blue and yellow shirts and other bits of

:25:05. > :25:17.apparel. 124 yards. You cannot spin it too

:25:18. > :25:24.much, you have to try to take some off it. Otherwise you cannot get

:25:25. > :25:39.close to the flag. Because that will go as Peters' did. --

:25:40. > :25:46.almost identical to Thomas Pieters'. Can Charley Hoffman do better?

:25:47. > :25:55.Second shot at the 9th. Co-leader. That was a good prod. A jolly good

:25:56. > :26:09.prod. That is the way to do it. Nice tee shot but he will stay to

:26:10. > :26:34.wonder. -- two under. Not ruling himself out of anything

:26:35. > :26:41.today. He has hardly played this year.

:26:42. > :27:05.For birdie at the 11th. It looks good. Oh, yes. He really has come

:27:06. > :27:11.out of the backwards, Jon Rahm, and is taking the golfing world by

:27:12. > :27:12.storm. 22 years old. He looks a little older than that.

:27:13. > :27:47.Here is Fowler. Fairway wood. Justin Rose, after that beautiful

:27:48. > :27:55.tee shot. Yes, well done, good two. A bit of a mixed bag from Justin

:27:56. > :28:11.today but still in the hunt. Westwood, second to the 17th.

:28:12. > :28:19.Stay, stay, stay. Welcome back, Ken Browne, who is in sparkling form.

:28:20. > :28:40.Peter, you wake me up. Superb tee shot here. Just feeding

:28:41. > :28:53.slightly left of the flag. Stop. Well done. Good angle.

:28:54. > :29:00.ANDREW COTTER: Garcia. We saw this putt for Thomas Pieters. Dies away

:29:01. > :29:09.quickly that one. Deep breathing. Every shot you play,

:29:10. > :29:39.walking a tightrope here. Oh, my. Left. That was a wild one.

:29:40. > :29:47.If it skids into the pine straw, it is a tough shot, anyway. Straight up

:29:48. > :29:53.the hill for Charley Hoffman. The final group and the joint leaders.

:29:54. > :30:05.This to take the outright lead. Sweetly done. 6-under par for

:30:06. > :30:18.Charley Hoffman, out in 34, tidy looking card.

:30:19. > :30:27.His fourth appearance here, the man from Vegas. Peter is -- Pieters on

:30:28. > :30:46.the tenth. The green used to be where that big

:30:47. > :30:53.bunker was, but they moved it all the way back as we go up to the

:30:54. > :31:00.12th, and Rahm. A young, confident man, from 142 yards. Be careful.

:31:01. > :31:08.Oh... Just about short enough for a

:31:09. > :31:15.pitching wedge, but you have to get all of it, and Rahm in trouble. His

:31:16. > :31:18.fellow countrymen also in a bit of bother. The first putt for a while

:31:19. > :31:24.from Garcia that hasn't looked pretty.

:31:25. > :31:30.It's like he didn't commit to it. Marginal deceleration.

:31:31. > :31:40.That was a very unpleasant ten seconds for Spain.

:31:41. > :31:54.Spieth up the slope at the 13th. Such a beautiful putter. Marvellous,

:31:55. > :32:04.marvellous effort. Hunting a hole, hole path.

:32:05. > :32:11.Phil Mickelson supporting cast member today, 3-over par. Westwood

:32:12. > :32:25.now for his birdie on the 17th. And he has it! All the way. That was

:32:26. > :32:31.judged into perfectly by Lee Westwood.

:32:32. > :32:42.Westwood to 1-under par. Look at that back nine.

:32:43. > :32:50.We saw Jon Rahm a moment ago finding the water, so options for dropping

:32:51. > :32:54.it, and Ken had a look at them. There's a look at where the 12th pin

:32:55. > :32:58.is cut today, front left of the putting surface. A number of players

:32:59. > :33:02.over the years have hit the ball into the water. The flag today is

:33:03. > :33:06.cut in that portion of the green. This is the water hazard at the

:33:07. > :33:09.front. If you miss anywhere on the front of the green, it runs back

:33:10. > :33:15.into the water. What are your optionss if you're ball pitches

:33:16. > :33:20.there? Option one is you try to play it. Most often, you can't. Option

:33:21. > :33:24.two is you can go all the way back to the tee and drop the ball there.

:33:25. > :33:29.You can do that, because you know the sort of shot you have to play.

:33:30. > :33:32.You just misjudged that one. Option three is where the ball last crossed

:33:33. > :33:36.the margin of the hazard, you can go back in a straight line as far as

:33:37. > :33:40.you would like, which is what Jordan Spieth did last. How far do you go?

:33:41. > :33:45.You don't want to be too close to the green because you can't put any

:33:46. > :33:51.spin on it. 75, 80 yards, and you drop your ball. This is about 80

:33:52. > :33:55.yards, say there. Look at the lie to start with. Quite a nice lie, but

:33:56. > :33:59.generally when you drop back here, it is on a downslope. What you don't

:34:00. > :34:06.need to stop the ball quickly. Look what is facing you. You have the

:34:07. > :34:12.water in front, the bank, six yards of putting service. It is eyelevel,

:34:13. > :34:15.it is an inviting. If you miss the green, you have options. But

:34:16. > :34:21.whatever one you take, they are not very friendly. -- it is an inviting.

:34:22. > :34:33.Jon Rahm has gone back to a comfortable yardage. This is his

:34:34. > :34:36.third shot. Now, now, now, shot forward off the back of the green.

:34:37. > :34:42.Coming down over the pine needles, the Pine straw.

:34:43. > :34:55.This looks a tight lie, the green sits above you. This will curve to

:34:56. > :35:04.the right, almost coming back to him. Not bad. Stop will.

:35:05. > :35:15.It was like it was slipping down a place, wasn't it.

:35:16. > :35:26.Let's have another look at Jon Rahm's shot. This is what happens to

:35:27. > :35:30.tee shots. You think it has gone. It sticks there and he is in horrible

:35:31. > :35:35.trouble. A horrible shot back towards the water, but at least he

:35:36. > :35:42.has the and down for a bogey. This for a double bogey.

:35:43. > :35:50.The quirky swing of Ryan Moore. He's got it... Oh. I thought he was going

:35:51. > :35:55.to do a KJ Choi and not it in the cup. Just watching the name of

:35:56. > :36:03.Jordan Spieth creep up the leaderboard. Sergio Garcia, the

:36:04. > :36:09.ninth. Two behind Hofmann now. This is where he hit a loose one

:36:10. > :36:19.yesterday. All sorts of confusion. 3-wood down the left today. 1.3 but

:36:20. > :36:28.the pain is on the right. Thomas Pieters.

:36:29. > :36:43.Slow, slow, slow. An ounce more pace and it would have held its line. So,

:36:44. > :36:52.Charley Hoffman, 3-wood for Charlie. Going anxiously left. It's OK. Up on

:36:53. > :37:11.the green, Rickie Fowler. From the left little to the right

:37:12. > :37:15.lip in about 15 inches. -- the left lip.

:37:16. > :37:29.Rahm with his fourth shot. He's played it nicely. He's walking. Two

:37:30. > :37:44.shots gone at the 12th Jon Rahm. It claims another victim.

:37:45. > :37:58.Down the right. The fairway sloping from left to watch, you often find

:37:59. > :38:03.the right rough. Not too bad. Quite often wayward from the tee, Jordan.

:38:04. > :38:13.Little bit loose sometimes. McGirt down towards the 11th. You can see

:38:14. > :38:22.the flag fluttering. Hold that pose. That's why. Two wonderful shots in

:38:23. > :38:31.there from Ryan Moore and William McGirt. McIlroy at the 14th, uphill,

:38:32. > :38:35.come on, Rory. Must be. Not quite enough pace. He said he just needed

:38:36. > :38:39.to get within three or four today. He would be happy going in tomorrow

:38:40. > :38:46.within three or four. At the moment, he's not quite there. It is quite

:38:47. > :38:49.difficult to force birdies out of Augusta, because sometimes you have

:38:50. > :38:55.to take on risks that you don't need to. Where the flag is cut on 15 it

:38:56. > :39:03.is a sucker 's pin. Adam Scott and Justin Rose playing together.

:39:04. > :39:10.Difficult again, Ken. Grab the grass, playing a bit lower. Sit. Oh,

:39:11. > :39:17.please. Stop. Stop there now. Lucky, Lucky, lucky.

:39:18. > :39:35.Pretty good. A brave one to go for the flag, you can get so close to

:39:36. > :39:41.the right bunker, and if you pop it in there, you can get down the two.

:39:42. > :39:43.A moment ago, Garcia with a similar shot, but from the shortest off,

:39:44. > :40:01.174. -- the shorter stuff. Safe, but an unlikely putt Tahoma.

:40:02. > :40:08.Like all his long putts today, he has left them short.

:40:09. > :40:28.He will remain where he started, 2-under par.

:40:29. > :40:40.37 years old, his first Masters. Doing very nicely. Justin Rose,

:40:41. > :40:52.Butch holding a flag. He just stayed on the green.

:40:53. > :40:57.Come on, come on, come on. Nice birdie at the 12th, and that to back

:40:58. > :41:10.it up with another. Ryan Moore, sweetly into the centre

:41:11. > :41:13.of the cup. Generally very hardest par-4 on the course, the 11th.

:41:14. > :41:20.Slightly easier pin today than normal. An outstanding amateur

:41:21. > :41:30.champion. Leading amateur back in 2005. Here is the 2011 champion. An

:41:31. > :41:35.eagle for Charl Schwartzel. He is suddenly to 2-under par. Where has

:41:36. > :41:37.that come from? He has come via a birdie and an eagle on the last two

:41:38. > :41:43.holes. A cathedral of pines on the 11th

:41:44. > :42:00.tee. Looking a little anxious. He has

:42:01. > :42:01.done all right. Not the perfect spot, but you can certainly get a

:42:02. > :42:14.swing at it. Always has something to say to his

:42:15. > :42:22.golf ball, Spieth. Right over the flag. He asked it to go, but didn't

:42:23. > :42:23.need to. He has left himself with a swing on that one from right to

:42:24. > :42:29.left. Scott playing alongside Justin Rose.

:42:30. > :42:59.This for 3-under. 215 yards, pin front right. To chase

:43:00. > :43:12.this flag, you have got to take a risk. Bunker right. Sit! Sit! Sit!

:43:13. > :43:17.Sit! Oh, Rory. Sit down. Sit down. Lucky. There is a pond just beyond

:43:18. > :43:31.there. Rose has left himself this five

:43:32. > :43:37.footer or so for his birdie. He has changed and has worked hard at which

:43:38. > :43:44.grip to use. He uses this claw grip with a slightly heavier putter.

:43:45. > :43:50.Usual putting grip. Such a satisfying than to become a horrible

:43:51. > :43:54.sliding left to right putt. This is a good group, tidy players, Justin

:43:55. > :43:59.Rose and Adam Scott. Both are 3-under now. That will do nicely

:44:00. > :44:11.round Amen Corner. Westwood on the final hole. In the left-hand sand.

:44:12. > :44:21.That's done well. That's done very well. A lot of sand and a fairly

:44:22. > :44:34.square clubface, getting it to scoot up the slope. He is on a fast

:44:35. > :44:42.finish, Westy. Garcia, a lot of left to right. In the trunk shadows.

:44:43. > :44:50.All the uphill putts are left and short. A chance...

:44:51. > :44:59.That back right of the tenth green, available it out 6-7 years ago. The

:45:00. > :45:08.ability to put a flag on there, but only just.

:45:09. > :45:13.A tricky one here for Fowler, just a few branches creeping out to

:45:14. > :45:25.negotiate. Everything to avoid it going left.

:45:26. > :45:26.That's a very, very good shot from Fowler, pretty much where he would

:45:27. > :45:37.have been aiming. Two shot leave at the moment for

:45:38. > :46:02.Hoffman -- lead. The 11th is 505, two very long holes

:46:03. > :46:17.in a row. To the 12th, and Ryan Moore.

:46:18. > :46:36.Leave for his par. Lee Westwood, oh... A little bit left of centre

:46:37. > :46:41.but a brilliant up and down at a loss. 70, 77 and a gorgeous 68, he

:46:42. > :46:50.is in with a chance tomorrow. A fabulous record here at Augusta.

:46:51. > :47:02.Lowest round of the day so far as we go back to Garcia. This is a knee

:47:03. > :47:22.This is going to be a skid, this one. That was superb. Playing back

:47:23. > :47:27.to the water, you don't want much too much over the other side, and

:47:28. > :47:35.that was classy. Trusts in his abilities. Jordan Spieth.

:47:36. > :47:44.We said there would be a bit of movement on this one, Ken.

:47:45. > :47:59.Sit down. Now, that is a horrible, little left to right move.

:48:00. > :48:12.Not too many people have coped well with the birdie putts from that side

:48:13. > :48:21.of the hole at the 12th. The third shot of Thomas Pieters,

:48:22. > :48:26.look how much purpose he can get. This is about 35 yards.

:48:27. > :48:30.Slides the club underneath it, looks like it is going to go too far. A

:48:31. > :48:46.bit of fees on it -- fizz. Spieth, is this close enough for his

:48:47. > :48:54.there at the ball while hitting it? -- for his stare.

:48:55. > :49:00.It is unsettling, but it works for him.

:49:01. > :49:09.I am sure lots of people have tried it at home.

:49:10. > :49:20.After a great escape from the left trees, Rickie down the slope at the

:49:21. > :49:31.11th. This is a Wonderbra. Sit down. -- wonder rather.

:49:32. > :49:41.He comes here with a lot of confidence. Hoffman down the

:49:42. > :49:46.corridor on the 11th. Just turned it left towards the

:49:47. > :50:01.trees. That's all right. Only one top ten

:50:02. > :50:06.in the Majors, that was his ninth here a couple of years ago. Jon

:50:07. > :50:27.Rahm, uphill all the way at the 13th.

:50:28. > :50:36.Fowler rolls it in on the 11th. And remains 3-under.

:50:37. > :50:46.Gorgeous driver of the ball, Sergio Garcia. The lowest penetrating

:50:47. > :50:51.flight. Do lofts the driver as he comes into it.

:50:52. > :51:03.Just magnificent, a bullet. Talking about heavy putters, heavy woods as

:51:04. > :51:08.well. He is so accurate with them. A low launch, high spin driver. He

:51:09. > :51:15.launches low, but the spin takes it up. Jordan Spieth.

:51:16. > :51:20.A couple of people applauding that quickly stopped.

:51:21. > :51:26.Because he is entirely blocked out by the trees down the left-hand

:51:27. > :51:28.side. It looks OK there, but from where the camera is filming this,

:51:29. > :51:39.some big come the big trees. McIlroy, a little movement to his

:51:40. > :51:46.right, but not as much as that. Nothing from the par fives on the

:51:47. > :51:51.back nine, Ken. It is very hard to press birdies on this course.

:51:52. > :51:57.Something has caught fire in the background. That is a big, old

:51:58. > :52:13.cigar. A bit of breeze helping out of 14.

:52:14. > :52:30.If you can't find the you can't get at the flag. Round it goes.

:52:31. > :52:52.But from here at the 14th, you can take that flag on. The sound is very

:52:53. > :52:55.sweet. Pretty good. Steve Williams back on

:52:56. > :53:19.Adam Scott's bag. Both of them left with three putts

:53:20. > :53:27.from no distance, for Pieters, a mix. Looking silly, and very cross.

:53:28. > :53:36.You have to put that behind you. It is so easy for that thing to stick

:53:37. > :53:43.with you around Augusta. Jon Rahm, boldly holed. Nice bounce back from

:53:44. > :53:47.the double bogey on the 12th. Hazel eye from a 20-year-old, to a

:53:48. > :53:52.43 rod, at Lee Westwood, five top top tens in his last seven

:53:53. > :53:56.appearances at Augusta, including two runner ups. Heading for another

:53:57. > :54:02.top ten at least, with the best round of the day, 68 with birdies at

:54:03. > :54:06.13, 15 and 17 coming home. Just an done by a second-round 70s ever

:54:07. > :54:10.yesterday. Still, he will take it, 1-under. Let's get a word from Lee

:54:11. > :54:15.on that. 68 today, how well do you think you

:54:16. > :54:19.played in these conditions? Pretty well. I did most things good. Played

:54:20. > :54:29.a couple of exceptional bunker shots, but I am quite pleased. It is

:54:30. > :54:31.like a traditional at Augusta on a Sunday, Lee Westwood will be

:54:32. > :54:36.involved at the top of the leaderboard. How close do you think

:54:37. > :54:39.you can get? It depends what the lead is at the end of the day.

:54:40. > :54:44.Someone can go silly around the back nine and gets to eight, nine,

:54:45. > :54:50.10-under, I will be a long way behind. But it is not easy, 16 and

:54:51. > :54:54.17, even 18, they are all difficult holes. Even the easy ones where you

:54:55. > :54:59.can pick up shots, you can drop shots around Augusta. The flags were

:55:00. > :55:03.harder today. Who knows, 5-under or 6-under might lead by the end of the

:55:04. > :55:04.day, you never know. Thank you for your time. Good luck tomorrow. Thank

:55:05. > :55:08.you. Lee will be hosting the British

:55:09. > :55:31.Masters later in the year. That doesn't sound good. I think he

:55:32. > :55:42.was worried it wasn't going to carry the water. 16th, 183. Now, Hoffman.

:55:43. > :55:46.Standing on the corner of the water here at the 11th.

:55:47. > :55:55.You have just got to play this cagey. And it was very cagey.

:55:56. > :56:05.An excellent shot. Exactly where he would have been aiming.

:56:06. > :56:15.142 yards, the shortest it plays, the 12th. The flag hanging limp.

:56:16. > :56:39.This gives you a good look of the green, water left.

:56:40. > :56:47.Asking it to draw. It's sort of does. A bit of help from his playing

:56:48. > :56:55.partner, which is always handy. A bird has found the microphone and is

:56:56. > :56:58.going through his greatest hits. Now, Rose, he saw his ball wondering

:56:59. > :57:26.all the way down there. Forced to go over those pine trees

:57:27. > :57:31.laying up. There are a hard to follow the ball when the ball goes

:57:32. > :57:41.over some trees. This will test his nerve after the awfulness of the

:57:42. > :57:52.first round quadruple birdie, McGirt on the 13th.

:57:53. > :58:04.Spieth, 28 holes now without a bogey.

:58:05. > :58:22.Fowler, just off the back of the 12th.

:58:23. > :58:31.That looks pretty good. That's got to hit it, go on.

:58:32. > :58:43.5:30 over here and it is time for Paul Azinger and the voice of golf,

:58:44. > :58:53.Peter Alice. How kind you. A lovely evening in

:58:54. > :59:03.Augusta. The sun so high in the sky. Ryan Moore, 13th, 3-under par, third

:59:04. > :59:07.shot. Edging up to a devilishly high, small plateau. It is a

:59:08. > :59:18.heartbreaking position. Has he done it? Has he done it? He's done it OK.

:59:19. > :59:35.Well, now, Rory McIlroy, you were with us on Thursday. Let's listen.

:59:36. > :59:39.We are fine right now. OK. Hit a pretty good shot here on the

:59:40. > :59:50.first day and it spun back in the water. Here we go again. Big divot.

:59:51. > :59:52.Big enough for the harvest festival. A good shot. It could go in this

:59:53. > :59:57.time. No. He really is a remarkable young man

:59:58. > :00:10.and an amazing golfer. He took a couple of body blows in

:00:11. > :00:17.the first two rounds. And he has come roaring back. Well done, him.

:00:18. > :00:30.It will be a certain birdie and the crowd go ape. He is proving his

:00:31. > :00:39.resilience, Peter. He is 22, 23 years of age now. They love it. But

:00:40. > :00:49.keep calm, he is saying, keep calm, keep steady. I think he might walk

:00:50. > :00:54.across the water. He was 4-over when he walked off this green on

:00:55. > :00:56.Thursday. He is playing with Phil Mickelson, who is one of the

:00:57. > :01:38.also-rans today. A remarkable ovation. That is

:01:39. > :01:46.usually for a last day winner walking up the 18th hole ovation.

:01:47. > :02:04.Out in 33. The couple of birdies coming home.

:02:05. > :02:12.Justin Rose, he certainly has the firepower to reach in two. A much

:02:13. > :02:15.tighter tee shot that in years past, they have added trees to the right

:02:16. > :02:28.and left. Split the fairway. That is perfect.

:02:29. > :02:33.He will give it a go from there, I am sure.

:02:34. > :02:45.Got it. Very much a crowd favourite. Started beautifully and then

:02:46. > :03:04.dribbled a few away. Huge crowd here. Around the 16th

:03:05. > :03:13.tee. McIlroy. Has to go up the hill and

:03:14. > :03:17.across the ridge. Oh, no. He has left himself a devilish second putt.

:03:18. > :03:33.He will be on defence there. Birdie, birdie, birdie. Short again.

:03:34. > :03:37.I think that is an indicator of how he feels on the inside. That is as

:03:38. > :03:44.much as it used as it is the way he actually stroked the putt. There is

:03:45. > :03:53.definitely a tentative spirit. Lack of confidence. He is a suspect

:03:54. > :03:59.putter. He has been for a number of years, sadly. He has weeks when he

:04:00. > :04:08.putts magnificently, but he is tentative.

:04:09. > :04:17.For birdie. He had a fabulous shot in there and look at it go. So fast.

:04:18. > :04:32.This putt for par for McIlroy. That is beautifully holed. One of the

:04:33. > :04:37.best shots he has played today. He did not want to drop a shot there.

:04:38. > :04:48.He has two hang on. Be in touching distance. Ryan Moore. Down and in.

:04:49. > :04:56.Went in like a rabbit looking for his hole.

:04:57. > :05:04.4-under par, a dark horse. Look at the crowd. Look about you, look at

:05:05. > :05:12.the right and left. Back looking at the 15th, 16th, 17th tee.

:05:13. > :05:25.You liked this shot, go ahead and smash it. That's why it takes five

:05:26. > :05:32.or six hours to go around, they have a conversation on every hole, player

:05:33. > :05:46.and caddy, every shot. Two birdies, so far, on this hole. He is after

:05:47. > :05:52.another. Go! He has the McIlroy putt. A little

:05:53. > :05:58.bit nearer. That is a scary shot. There is not a lot of room. If you

:05:59. > :06:08.go along to the right, you have no chance. Speaking of scary shots.

:06:09. > :06:12.Charley Hoffman. 142 yards. That is OK.

:06:13. > :06:29.He is tight alongside the stream. On the 13th you have to manoeuvre one

:06:30. > :06:37.up and onto the green. That is a very fine results. Steady, steady,

:06:38. > :06:49.steady. Good effort. Really good effort.

:06:50. > :07:02.Looking anxiously. Oh, he loves it. My shot. Another good chance for

:07:03. > :07:16.Sergio. Fred Couples, 14th. But a long putt

:07:17. > :07:21.for par. Freddie, look out. LAUGHTER,.

:07:22. > :07:42.Oh, Freddie, you old crowd pleaser, you.

:07:43. > :07:50.Needs to be a good drive and just a wedge if he hits it nice. Lost it to

:07:51. > :07:58.the right. Anything is possible down there.

:07:59. > :08:09.Poor old Ernie, he has had a dreadful day.

:08:10. > :08:17.Long, long putt up the hill. Finishing in a blaze of glory...

:08:18. > :08:24.Ernie, Ernie, Ernie, what a way to finish 14-over. 83. Maybe Ernie's

:08:25. > :08:34.last one. Maybe his last hurrah. After a terrific tee shot at 15,

:08:35. > :08:48.Justin Rose. That is nicely done. That is OK.

:08:49. > :09:04.Hanging in there, Justin Rose. A slowish putt from the back of this

:09:05. > :09:40.green. That is a safe three. Where is he going with this? Squirt

:09:41. > :09:46.it through the tree and try and get it in the front bunker I fancy. Down

:09:47. > :09:50.on the right-hand side and a pitch and a putt. Front bunker if he is

:09:51. > :10:29.lucky. Garcia to go to 5-under. By such

:10:30. > :10:32.margins Championships and tournaments are won and loss. I

:10:33. > :10:49.thought that was bound to drop. But no. No, no, but OK, 4-under. He has

:10:50. > :10:56.had a few chances today. Spieth up the hill at 16.

:10:57. > :11:15.Rickie electing to hit a little pitch and run. A sand wedge. Way

:11:16. > :11:20.overplayed the break but perfect touch. Easy birdie for Rickie

:11:21. > :11:29.Fowler. Back to 4-under.

:11:30. > :11:39.It is a good one. Adam Scott trundles it down virtually stone

:11:40. > :11:50.dead. If these players can hold it

:11:51. > :11:54.together for the final few holes, there will be ten, 12 or more

:11:55. > :12:03.players tomorrow with a shout at victory.

:12:04. > :12:19.Not a very good shot after a massive tee shot.

:12:20. > :12:31.You get an idea of the crowds around the 16th green. It is like a giant

:12:32. > :12:38.horseshoe. A couple of hundred feet or so lower than the clubhouse. A

:12:39. > :12:39.testing course to walk around and this is a testing putt, but well

:12:40. > :12:56.done, good nerve. It is becoming quite compelling now.

:12:57. > :13:22.Bunching up. Spieth for par at 16. Oh. He looked at the hole. Mis-hit

:13:23. > :13:34.the tee shot, which cost him. Adam Scott, that is his birdie.

:13:35. > :13:50.Par. I thought it was a birdie. No shots dropped, still in the hunt.

:13:51. > :14:05.Pitching it back up the hill. Careful. One of those. Struggling

:14:06. > :14:12.for par. An important he shot for Charley Hoffman. Going with 3-wood.

:14:13. > :14:23.They looked like he bailed to the right. Just lay up. There are all

:14:24. > :14:25.kinds of ways to make birdie here. Just off the fairway into the loose

:14:26. > :14:38.pine needles. Rory pops it away. You didn't see what happened with

:14:39. > :14:48.Rory so we are not sure of his score.

:14:49. > :14:57.We know Ken gets out and about early. He was looking at the pin

:14:58. > :15:02.position at the 13th. Just wandering onto the 13th green and the flag is

:15:03. > :15:12.at the back left-hand corner on a ledge, like an upturned wok. Imagine

:15:13. > :15:17.coming to this area with a 3-iron, even a wedge. Miss it on the left,

:15:18. > :15:22.the ball trickles off the green leaving an awkward chip. If you come

:15:23. > :15:29.up short, on the right, there is a steep bank. You have gone six inches

:15:30. > :15:34.off and watch where it goes, it keeps trickling, trickling,

:15:35. > :15:44.trickling. These greens are fast this morning. It keeps going. To the

:15:45. > :15:49.right, a tributary, you do not want to miss left, short, long, it is so

:15:50. > :15:53.easy to drift into this right-hand stream and if you go there, you

:15:54. > :16:03.could find anything. Daffy duck down there. Thomas

:16:04. > :16:11.Pieters, Igor putt. Up the hill and needs to go left and no. -- eagle

:16:12. > :16:19.stop that should be one retrieved after the poor showing at 12.

:16:20. > :16:28.Not a lot of room. You really have to go directly at this flag.

:16:29. > :16:32.We have seen a lot of balls down there. Frightfully difficult to

:16:33. > :16:46.judge the speed up that hill. We have seen some massive drives at

:16:47. > :16:51.the 13th today. Over the corner of the Pines, leaving a short iron.

:16:52. > :16:55.Amazing to think he can hit the ball so far. Leaves him on the slope. Not

:16:56. > :17:08.an easy second to a small target. Adam Scott is quietly sneaking into

:17:09. > :17:14.town. Moved right up the leaderboard today. Look at that divot,

:17:15. > :17:20.beautifully square. You could lay a dollar bill in that. Is it enough?

:17:21. > :17:43.No. He will be down there with Justin Rose.

:17:44. > :17:52.No bunkers at all on this hole. Green difficult enough. Long and

:17:53. > :18:02.wide with humps and bumps, severe slopes. Look at that. Almost very

:18:03. > :18:08.good and now it is off down the hill. It will finish I know not

:18:09. > :18:10.where. As a player you know you don't want to make that mistake ever

:18:11. > :18:33.on 14. They worse than a four. It looks

:18:34. > :18:36.like a cracking drive. And it is. He has had a funny round with some

:18:37. > :19:00.wonderful holes and a couple of lips. -- blips. On the way at 17.

:19:01. > :19:13.Not much more than a 9-iron. This is tricky. Just lying on the pine

:19:14. > :19:22.straw, as they call it here. You get it a bit heavy... He has pushed it

:19:23. > :19:28.out safely to be wide part of the fairway. It came off that Lady's

:19:29. > :19:33.need. No harm done. They used to be a flat spot, I am not sure it is

:19:34. > :19:40.still there. That will be tricky off a slight downslope. Spieth might as

:19:41. > :19:45.well go right at it. Nothing near the flag that can cause trouble. He

:19:46. > :19:54.does it. Here's the bunker. Another good look for Jordan.

:19:55. > :20:03.Never made a birdie at the 17th hole, that is interesting. Sergio is

:20:04. > :20:06.playing with, you know that fellow he is playing with. A little bit

:20:07. > :20:21.above his feet. Though, he does not like it. It has

:20:22. > :20:31.gone away, has it? Water? In the creek. Charley Hoffman is away up in

:20:32. > :20:35.the crowd. Oh, it is stuck on the bank. Maybe he can play that. He is

:20:36. > :20:49.lucky. Years ago they did not do that. He does not know he has had a

:20:50. > :20:54.stroke of good fortune. I don't know how that happened. You saw him pitch

:20:55. > :20:59.and it stuck in the grass. You would not think it is longer. To stop the

:21:00. > :21:04.ball going back in the water, but it did, and he is left... Not the

:21:05. > :21:07.easiest of places to be, but certainly able to get a par-5 at

:21:08. > :21:14.worst. See how Adam Scott handles this.

:21:15. > :21:27.Easy. It is pretty good. You can spot the difference between

:21:28. > :22:11.those two. Fowler, having drifted back. At

:22:12. > :22:17.least 30 odd yards from the flag and big humps in the way and he has gone

:22:18. > :22:22.the high rate, lofting it. It could come back nicely for him. He has

:22:23. > :22:24.worked that out very well indeed. That is well thought out. Very

:22:25. > :22:33.imaginative. How hard do you want to hit this,

:22:34. > :22:58.Adam? About that hard. Good putt. Let's see if Justin can clean this

:22:59. > :23:05.up. Watch out for these two tomorrow. Justin Rose is more than

:23:06. > :23:12.capable, two shots off Charley Hoffman's lead, currently. And there

:23:13. > :23:24.is Hoffman right here. Third shot. At the 13th. Steady, stop. And it

:23:25. > :23:38.has. He made that look easy. Nothing easy about that shot. Dutiful, low.

:23:39. > :23:49.-- you to fall. -- beautiful. About six yards up the hill. Playing close

:23:50. > :23:58.to 165 yards. He does not like it. Not too bad. He was hoping for

:23:59. > :24:04.movement to the left. Rory got unlucky here yesterday, hitting the

:24:05. > :24:16.flag on the fly. Jordan for birdie at 17. Oh, no. You don't often see a

:24:17. > :24:30.misread like that from Jordan. Well wide from the get go.

:24:31. > :24:45.For eagle. Wow, he will take advantage of the great break. Tap-in

:24:46. > :24:50.birdie for Sergio, which will get him to one shot behind Charley

:24:51. > :24:57.Hoffman. Fowler, for par and he has done it

:24:58. > :25:05.again. Boy, has he strangled some today. Holed certainly five, six

:25:06. > :25:08.really good putts. The shortest probably 12 feet. And Sergio taps

:25:09. > :25:23.in. At the end of the day a good birdie four.

:25:24. > :25:33.Well, if that putter was running red hot, Sergio would have a nice

:25:34. > :25:40.cushion, instead he is trailing. McIlroy to get to 1-under. Well he

:25:41. > :25:59.shaved the whole -- hole. He has played one or two racket

:26:00. > :26:08.shots. Rory has missed a lot of opportunities. He hated close on 11.

:26:09. > :26:12.Did not birdie 13. He reached easily in two. He missed a short one on 15.

:26:13. > :26:24.Six behind this man. Hoffman, a chance to get to 7-under.

:26:25. > :26:31.Dead centre. He made that look easy. I think that would have gone in a

:26:32. > :26:37.thimble. Suddenly, Charley Hoffman, two shots clear.

:26:38. > :27:08.The beautiful tee shot. Beautiful tee shot.

:27:09. > :27:13.HAZEL IRVINE: The birdie has put Charley Hoffman exactly where he was

:27:14. > :27:18.after day one, 7-under. Sergio Garcia, perhaps the ball staying on

:27:19. > :27:25.the bank at the 13th will be his Freddie Couples moment. Still

:27:26. > :27:30.intact. Jordan Spieth, an incredible run from the champion of two years

:27:31. > :27:36.ago. No champion has trailed by more than seven after 18 and he is

:27:37. > :27:41.certainly within touch. Could have been better early on. Justin Rose is

:27:42. > :27:47.not out of it. And Rickie Fowler, his scrambling skills have been put

:27:48. > :27:52.to great use. There are former champions. Adam Scott, Charl

:29:42. > :29:49.in 2012. Back out we go to the back nine at Augusta National.

:29:50. > :29:59.COMMENTATOR: A mighty lash from Sergio. And that's right down the

:30:00. > :30:03.middle there at 14. So important with the front pinned to find the

:33:58. > :34:07.it between the uprights. Rose for birdie. Has he done it?

:34:08. > :34:25.Good line. Dead centre. APPLAUSE A fantastic back nine, only one

:34:26. > :34:32.person in front of him, that's Charley Hoffman. Only the fifth

:34:33. > :34:41.birdie at number 17 today. I believe Sergio will be licking his chops

:34:42. > :34:46.here. Just a short iron. Ideally landing a foot or two left of the

:34:47. > :34:54.flag. Interesting, trying to draw it to the pin. Nothing wrong with that.

:34:55. > :34:57.A little uphill. Some break in it. Roaring into the slope of the

:36:54. > :37:01.I had enough chances on the back nine and didn't quite convert. I set

:37:02. > :37:10.myself up for a few birdies. I was in between clubs all day. When I

:37:11. > :37:15.have hit those drives, I need to get birdies, I had chances on 11 and 14

:37:16. > :37:19.as well. I could have been a few better, and that puts me a few shots

:37:20. > :37:22.behind going into tomorrow. I need to get off to a fast start and keep

:37:23. > :37:26.it going. You need to know where the leaders

:37:27. > :37:33.finished tonight, but is it possible to make a prediction on where you

:37:34. > :37:39.could get tomorrow? I mean, I have shot low ones here before. My lowest

:37:40. > :37:43.round here, I'm not sure if it is going to be low enough depending on

:37:44. > :37:50.the conditions. It depends what the leaders do. Charley has the seven

:37:51. > :37:54.there. If he stays at that, it will be tough. But if he drops a couple

:37:55. > :37:57.coming in, I will feel better about my chances.

:37:58. > :38:01.One or two players have come in and said it is difficult to attack the

:38:02. > :38:05.cause, the pin positions, the greens quickening up. Is it a difficult

:38:06. > :38:12.balance when you consider attacking tomorrow? It is. Especially with the

:38:13. > :38:16.conditions, there was a light breeze, but nothing to trouble us

:38:17. > :38:23.too much. As I said before, if you can take advantage of the par fives,

:38:24. > :38:27.you are 4-under from the first tee. I will need to play the round of my

:38:28. > :38:29.life tomorrow to have a chance. We appreciate you coming in and good

:38:30. > :38:40.luck tomorrow. Thank you. COMMENTATOR: Always speaks so

:38:41. > :38:53.sincerely and nicely, Rory. He says what he thinks.

:38:54. > :39:09.Good two putt, 4-under for Ryan Moore. His grandma died on Friday,

:39:10. > :39:17.so I think he's been slightly inspired. I'm not sure Charley

:39:18. > :39:21.Hoffman is pleased to be right about here after that tee. He has way over

:39:22. > :39:24.hit that. Not a good effort at all. Settle. A total mis-hit there. 18th

:39:25. > :39:43.green, Jordan Spieth. Not an easy one to read across the

:39:44. > :39:49.slope. Has he managed it? Wanted to bullet it in. Just watching that

:39:50. > :39:54.ball run out. Mickelson is another one, as it goes past the hole, it

:39:55. > :40:02.gives you a clue as to how it will break on the way back.

:40:03. > :40:11.Only one place for it, a magnificent scene. Look at the spectators. How

:40:12. > :40:13.do you get that many people to be quiet at the same time, I don't

:40:14. > :40:15.know. Hoffman now. It would be one heck of

:40:16. > :40:32.a recovery if he could make this. Really slow. A dropped shot for

:40:33. > :40:41.Charley Hoffman. Just one shot ahead.

:40:42. > :41:01.Sergio with a great opportunity, too.

:41:02. > :41:11.And a super putt, and a good round for Jordan Spieth. Steady as she

:41:12. > :41:18.goes, 68 today, Jordan. Made a real move. Look at that clean card on the

:41:19. > :41:27.front, three birdies, no bogeys. A 3-putt at 16, but other than that,

:41:28. > :41:34.fabulous golf today. He did what he had to do on moving day. Proving

:41:35. > :41:37.day. A good night 's sleep can change a lot of things in the minds

:41:38. > :41:47.of the players. This was Mickelson finishing.

:41:48. > :41:50.Three-time champion, finding the bottom of the cup, 71, 73, 74. He

:41:51. > :42:11.was hoping for a bit better today. Sergio, oh. A little bit like Rory,

:42:12. > :42:17.that one slipping past the edge. It is hard to watch Sergio shrugging

:42:18. > :42:26.like this on the greens. It has been tough to watch. He has hit it great

:42:27. > :42:36.today. -- struggling like this on the greens.

:42:37. > :42:43.Oh. I think he caught it off the bottom of the club and wasn't going

:42:44. > :42:49.to make the carry. But it was perfect.

:42:50. > :42:56.Rickie Fowler, third shot. This is dangerous. Got to fly this at least

:42:57. > :43:09.to the hole, maybe beyond. What it, what it. Yes. Not great,

:43:10. > :43:11.but OK. -- watch it. A little bit left of the flag, a bit more depth

:43:12. > :43:30.of putting surface. Backswing like he is staring

:43:31. > :43:33.custard. Cut it on the ledge at the back, it doesn't quite make it.

:43:34. > :43:41.There has only been one birdie at number 16 today. But not a bad spot.

:43:42. > :43:45.From that angle, you are putting straight uphill. A relatively easy

:43:46. > :43:48.putt from there if you finish on the bottom plateau. Now, the lovely

:43:49. > :44:02.swing of Adam Scott. And he hates it. Very

:44:03. > :44:09.uncharacteristic. Just a short iron in there for Adam.

:44:10. > :44:16.Can Rickie tickle one into the cup. A few goodies when he has missed

:44:17. > :44:21.them close. This for birdie. Right into the heart. What a player,

:44:22. > :44:41.what a putter. Maybe the best offer course brand.

:44:42. > :44:50.Only winning four times on the course, the same as Charley Hoffman.

:44:51. > :44:54.But Rickie is of fine pedigree. It just seems as if it is a matter of

:44:55. > :44:58.time before he breaks through and win is one of the big ones. He has

:44:59. > :45:04.been top five in all four Majors in the past. Sergio at 15. Slightly

:45:05. > :45:12.open stance, playing slightly down the left.

:45:13. > :45:21.A good, hard bounce, but not to the left. Not too much to the left. It's

:45:22. > :45:27.hard to tell, but you can see he is in the shadows of the pines. The

:45:28. > :45:37.shot that brings you into trouble, gets you out, if he can draw the

:45:38. > :45:39.next shot, you can get out. The left arm, but he still might be able to

:45:40. > :45:48.take a crack at 15 here. Hoffman makes Fred Funk look

:45:49. > :45:56.cricket. He drives it pretty straight. -- makes Fred Funk look

:45:57. > :46:04.crooked. 18th, the third shot of Adelaide's

:46:05. > :46:21.Adam Scott. A real crowd pleaser. When he looks

:46:22. > :46:23.like he is going to far, it grabs at the right moment. Let's see if Ryan

:46:24. > :46:52.Moore can judge this. They used to say, Ken, they pipe the

:46:53. > :46:56.sound of the birds chirping in the trees, but I was out there the other

:46:57. > :47:01.day and I spotted a Bluebird making that, I don't know what kind of boat

:47:02. > :47:06.it was, other than blue. They have real birds, not speakers in the

:47:07. > :47:15.trees. This is glorious. We have moved to

:47:16. > :47:19.another place. Just as glorious, the 18th.

:47:20. > :47:28.It looks like he was giving someone out in cricket there.

:47:29. > :47:34.It's called aim point. I can't quite fathom it out, but one or two

:47:35. > :47:36.players use it. I can't figure it out. Ryan Moore back down the hill

:47:37. > :47:46.at 16. That either goes in or goes down

:47:47. > :47:52.where it came from. Justin Rose now. For birdie here at 18.

:47:53. > :48:06.Oh, yes. And a fist pump for Justin Rose. Just like that. Rose and

:48:07. > :48:13.Hoffman tied. Round of the day over there. Look at that scorecard.

:48:14. > :48:22.12 in. Making the most of those holes, 67 for Justin Rose.

:48:23. > :48:33.They will be singing in the Northants clubhouse.

:48:34. > :48:41.13th fairway, Charley Hoffman. -- 15th fairway.

:48:42. > :48:57.Look what he has left himself there. Alcatraz. That's an horrendous place

:48:58. > :49:06.to be. He will try to pitch that next one into the bunker.

:49:07. > :49:10.The ever popular Adam Scott, 3-under. 2013 champion, what a

:49:11. > :49:30.pairing that was. It's been a long time since we have

:49:31. > :49:40.seen a player on the right part of the screen. -- the right part of the

:49:41. > :49:49.green. It is tricky to get down in two. Sergio is OK here. A no-brainer

:49:50. > :49:50.now, 198 yards to the hole. It is all carry. His natural shot will

:49:51. > :50:05.draw. A lot worse places to be than that.

:50:06. > :50:08.Lucky that he had one bounce on the green. If it carried another yacht

:50:09. > :50:17.and hit the downside, he would be near the water.

:50:18. > :50:22.HAZEL IRVINE: We will hear from Jordan Spieth in a little while. He

:50:23. > :50:26.is live on the US networks at the moment. There is the situation. What

:50:27. > :50:30.a finish from Justin Rose, former US Open champion and reigning Olympic

:50:31. > :50:34.champion, of course. He says he wants to be a multiple major winner

:50:35. > :50:39.to cement his legacy. He is going about it the right way. The 12th

:50:40. > :50:45.occasion for Justin that he has contended. And very, very firmly at

:50:46. > :50:48.the weekend. I am sure you will remember, it is a couple of years

:50:49. > :50:55.ago, he was in the last group with Jordan Spieth, getting to 14-under

:50:56. > :51:00.that year. That score would have won him 70 of the previous 78 Masters.

:51:01. > :51:04.He has been very, very close, and he is right at the top now. Charley

:51:05. > :51:09.Hoffman making his way home at the 15th. Rickie Fowler has made some

:51:10. > :51:14.forward momentum. He has gained it in the last hole also. Five

:51:15. > :51:18.underdog. Sergio Garcia one better than when he started out. But the

:51:19. > :51:23.putts are not dropping for surgery, are they. Jordan Spieth making a

:51:24. > :51:26.claim for a second green jacket. Remember his incredible record in

:51:27. > :51:33.this place of runner-up, first, runner-up, and who knows what in

:51:34. > :51:38.2017? He's at 4-under with Ryan Moore. Adam Scott home with 69

:51:39. > :51:43.blows. Charl Schwartzel making a good run today. You remember his win

:51:44. > :51:47.in 2011 where he birdied the last four holes in that incredible

:51:48. > :51:51.Haverhill recharge the year that Rory McIlroy perhaps could and

:51:52. > :51:55.should have won the Masters. That was some six years ago. Jon Rahm,

:51:56. > :51:59.his challenge has faded a little. 1-under now. But he will be here for

:52:00. > :52:04.many years to come, you sense. An incredible talent, but ready

:52:05. > :52:10.to-year-old Spaniard. Speaking of Jon Rahm, here he is. -- an

:52:11. > :52:28.incredible talent, the 22-year-old. COMMENTATOR: Rahm for birdie at 17.

:52:29. > :52:30.He is an emotional feller. He blasted that. Not a very good putt.

:52:31. > :52:44.Sometimes you want it too much. This will be for par now. Still

:52:45. > :52:49.hanging in there. Charley Hoffman finally has some company on top of

:52:50. > :52:55.that leaderboard with Justin Rose, 6-under par. Rahm trying to remain

:52:56. > :52:59.1-under. Within touch, within sight of the lead.

:53:00. > :53:20.Oh, boy. Like he was going to buy that putter in half. A little

:53:21. > :53:25.upslope, a of landing area, Sergio Garcia generally, with his pitching

:53:26. > :53:27.and chipping, is an absolute artiste. Let's see what he comes up

:53:28. > :53:44.with here. As a golfer, that is something so

:53:45. > :53:50.special. It's a terrifying shot if you are not confident. Sergio is

:53:51. > :53:52.just a genius around the greens. He made that look a lot easier than it

:53:53. > :54:00.was. Think of all the putts that Sergio

:54:01. > :54:06.has let get away to this point, only one shot off the pace. Likely to tie

:54:07. > :54:11.the lead if he can clean that up on 15. Largest comebacks in history,

:54:12. > :54:15.coming from seven straight behind, Nick Faldo in 1990 against Greg

:54:16. > :54:20.Norman. I talked to Faldo on the driving range this morning, he said

:54:21. > :54:26.he was five back on the 11th hole the first year he won. Six back

:54:27. > :54:38.during the final round the year he did win. Now, Fowler.

:54:39. > :54:50.A very natural, self-taught parting stroke with a lot of feel in it,

:54:51. > :55:06.Fowler. -- putting stroke. He's in a real pickle here, Hoffman

:55:07. > :55:13.is. I don't know if there is any lie good enough, Ken, that can fly over

:55:14. > :55:18.the bunker. He is going to try to chip it onto the back of the green.

:55:19. > :55:25.I can't quite see the angle. That is not quite so easy either. You are

:55:26. > :55:29.right, though, if he pitches it out to the right over the bunker, he

:55:30. > :55:34.will give himself a two putt par, maybe. He will not go for that,

:55:35. > :55:39.because if Heath flicks it over the green, it will run away from him.

:55:40. > :55:42.Maybe not. I will tell you what, he is way better off than I thought he

:55:43. > :55:48.was. I thought he was in the patrons, but he is sitting on stop

:55:49. > :55:52.decent green grass. Will he take a chance here? -- on top of decent

:55:53. > :56:01.green grass. It looks like he is going to have a

:56:02. > :56:05.go, face wide open. Two waste to open the face, you can lay your

:56:06. > :56:10.hands back or Labour face open. He is doing a bit of both. Double open.

:56:11. > :56:19.A tricky shot. Let see if he has done it. Yeah, that's really

:56:20. > :56:23.magnificent, isn't it. With a face that wide open, you can go

:56:24. > :56:29.underneath it, not just in front of it. Cut it clean and it skitters

:56:30. > :56:34.across. A huge break for Charley not to be to the right of the gallery.

:56:35. > :56:42.All of a sudden now, he has a chance, a good chance, for birdie.

:56:43. > :56:50.Sergio mooching around, a little bit like a caged lion. He is ready to

:56:51. > :56:52.pounce on something. Exactly where Rickie Fowler made it from a couple

:56:53. > :57:15.of moments ago. Charley has come a long way. He

:57:16. > :57:22.first turned pro in 2000. He played, it is called the Web.com now. Not

:57:23. > :57:32.sure what it was called then. Nothing to sneeze at there. The

:57:33. > :57:38.experience of the last group he had a couple of years ago. He seems

:57:39. > :57:41.pretty comfortable in his skin these days. He has come a long way from

:57:42. > :58:18.that big blonde mullet. No, never had a chance. Low and too

:58:19. > :58:25.hard. Not a good combination. A tight lipped response. Looks like

:58:26. > :58:30.Ryan Moore may have clipped the trees. He has gone a long way back

:58:31. > :58:48.with his second to 17. He has to go under that branch or go around it.

:58:49. > :59:16.Big, open-mouthed bunker guarding the 17th.

:59:17. > :59:29.Hoffman at the 15th. Bit of a wild second, very good pitch. This four a

:59:30. > :59:32.par. This to be OK. Well done. There are moments when you are delighted

:59:33. > :59:39.not to drop a stroke, having done so on the previous hole. If he can

:59:40. > :59:48.finish with three pars at worst, he will have had a very good day.

:59:49. > :59:56.Beautiful chip shot of Sergio Garcia from behind the green. It is a

:59:57. > :00:09.little further away than it looks. Knock a hole in 4-5 feet. Just maybe

:00:10. > :00:11.a touch of movement of the very little if it's got a bit of pace on

:00:12. > :00:21.it. A little bit of pace. Well done.

:00:22. > :00:24.Very good for Sergio. He has had a lot of chances today. 6-under. Going

:00:25. > :00:54.well. Go, Richard, says somebody very

:00:55. > :01:02.formally. Just on the very edge of the second cut. HAZEL IRVINE:

:01:03. > :01:08.Verities, Justin Rose bidding to be the second English man in succession

:01:09. > :01:13.to win the green jacket. This is Justin's card. What a storming

:01:14. > :01:24.second nine. 1-under for the tournament going to the 12th and he

:01:25. > :01:32.made birdies. A round of 67. Great playing. Rose in full bloom. Justin,

:01:33. > :01:37.best round of the day, give us your perspective on how well you think

:01:38. > :01:44.you played. Yes, the key was staying patient early in the round. I felt I

:01:45. > :01:49.was playing fine. I had a poor tee shot on two which resulted in the

:01:50. > :01:56.bogey. I felt I had to remain patient. The test was around six

:01:57. > :02:00.when I made bogey and seven, eight, nine, just stayed with it and played

:02:01. > :02:06.really well on the back nine, everything clicked into gear. The

:02:07. > :02:13.par putt need 11 was the catalyst to a great run in. Patients, is that

:02:14. > :02:20.the key on Sunday? I think so, you have to be aggressive at times. Pins

:02:21. > :02:24.you have to take advantage of. This is a course where you pick your

:02:25. > :02:32.moments and it worked well for me today and will be the game tomorrow.

:02:33. > :02:37.Putting will be key and people said the greens get quicker on Sunday.

:02:38. > :02:46.They were great today. It was a relief not having to factor in the

:02:47. > :02:51.wind. Today, with a smaller field, they were running perfectly and I

:02:52. > :02:57.had more confidence in the greens today. We wish you luck on Sunday.

:02:58. > :03:04.Cheers. I am sure a lot of people at home will do that. Garcia is right

:03:05. > :03:11.up there, leading the way. Where is it?

:03:12. > :03:30.Well, it is a tickler. Talking about his average in the

:03:31. > :03:35.third round that Hazel highlighted. The highest average of Saturday's

:03:36. > :03:47.scoring. Not too shabby at the moment. As we watch Hoffman. It is a

:03:48. > :03:53.tough pin to get close to. If you turn it over a fraction it tumbles

:03:54. > :04:05.down to the lower half. Oh, Charley, worse than that. Wow, he says. Wet

:04:06. > :04:10.it is. That was a while shot. It was, 25, 30 yard mistake with a

:04:11. > :04:15.five, six, seven iron. A dreadful shot.

:04:16. > :04:27.These swings. They tell us nothing. Everybody tried to find out why he

:04:28. > :04:34.has gone to the left. He just caught the water and that was it.

:04:35. > :04:38.You might see those shots when the pin is down the left half but

:04:39. > :04:44.Charley Hoffman going to a right-hand pin, in the water and in

:04:45. > :04:47.trouble. HAZEL IRVINE: Meanwhile Jordan Spieth is safely in the

:04:48. > :04:54.clubhouse after an excellent 68 today. No champion has trailed by

:04:55. > :05:04.more than seven after 18 and what a charge. Did you have a target at the

:05:05. > :05:09.start of the day? We wanted to shoot four under and get out there and we

:05:10. > :05:13.thought if we shot four under the lead with move to six, seven and I

:05:14. > :05:19.would creep in and bid on it, knowing that on Sunday you can take

:05:20. > :05:23.chances. I thought the golf course would be difficult today and it

:05:24. > :05:28.certainly was. We had tough pins but it was nice to get it out to 5-under

:05:29. > :05:34.out one point and we hit our goal early in the round. You have led

:05:35. > :05:39.going into the final round of every masters you have played in. How do

:05:40. > :05:43.you go about attacking, will there be a different strategy? I don't

:05:44. > :05:49.think so. You have to play to win. Other places you can back off and

:05:50. > :05:57.kind of crews, out here, if you have a chance to go for it, you have to

:05:58. > :06:04.pull off the shot. In 2015I have that situation on 13 and I chose to

:06:05. > :06:11.go for it versus laying up. Those are the kinds of moments that people

:06:12. > :06:16.that win this tournament have on Sunday. For me tomorrow it is about

:06:17. > :06:21.when those moments present themselves. Being patient, pulling

:06:22. > :06:25.off the shot, recognising that I would know better than anybody what

:06:26. > :06:31.can happen on a Sunday and patience is key. Charley Hoffman from the

:06:32. > :06:48.water taking a drop. That was poor, as well. Interesting

:06:49. > :06:53.listening to Jordan Spieth and the difference this year, if you look at

:06:54. > :07:02.the stats last year, 145th in greens in regulation and this year fifth,

:07:03. > :07:07.so it is clear he has improved. Keep the momentum going.

:07:08. > :07:15.It will be a fine day tomorrow. Not only the weather, but we could well

:07:16. > :07:32.be in for some sparkling golf. Freddie at the 18th.

:07:33. > :07:44.Still a very decent effort. Playing alongside Jon Rahm.

:07:45. > :07:52.Not a bad leaderboard, is it? It is leading up to a very good day

:07:53. > :08:11.tomorrow. The weather is set fair. Coming up to 20 minutes to seven in

:08:12. > :08:16.Augusta. They keep it tight. If this was tomorrow and it was the

:08:17. > :08:20.situation and there could be a play-off, they run the risk of

:08:21. > :08:28.running out of light, which I can never understand when you have a

:08:29. > :08:34.whole day to play with. These things that could have a little bit of

:08:35. > :08:41.padding. Here we go the 18th. Ryan Moore picks up that club. A little

:08:42. > :08:47.bit left. There is space out there, short of the bunkers. I noticed poor

:08:48. > :08:55.old Ernie Els had an 83 today. Early in the week he looked witty good. --

:08:56. > :09:01.he looked pretty good. Sergio looks as if he is going to

:09:02. > :09:10.putt this. There you get the view from the other side. Yes, he has his

:09:11. > :09:20.three wood out. What is he going to do with this. He has got his little

:09:21. > :09:28.baffler out. He has worked it out very well indeed. That shot has

:09:29. > :09:35.appeared in the players' repertoire in the last ten years. When it was

:09:36. > :09:41.first done, I know not by whom, we thought they were weird and crazy

:09:42. > :09:45.but it came off for Sergio. Playing fairway wood or metal, whatever you

:09:46. > :09:57.want to call it. He is urging it on, playing

:09:58. > :10:08.alongside Thomas Pieters, who is back to 1-under. Pieters has

:10:09. > :10:16.recovered well. He is keeping himself in with an outside chance as

:10:17. > :10:25.we go to Charley Hoffman, who is struggling against the tide.

:10:26. > :10:33.Suddenly with one shot, perhaps his chances of winning the green jacket

:10:34. > :10:41.are gone. Tomorrow is another day, but he has held it together so well.

:10:42. > :10:47.He is not inexperienced. He has won three or four big events. But that

:10:48. > :10:52.was a poor shot and could be costly. I suppose it is experience in the

:10:53. > :10:57.Majors. You mention just one top ten in the Majors, here, finishing

:10:58. > :11:02.ninth. Never really been in contention.

:11:03. > :11:08.When you play a lot of professional golf and they play for $1 billion

:11:09. > :11:13.every week, it is not such a huge difference. He has played for ten,

:11:14. > :11:19.15 years. It is not as if you are playing here for the first time. It

:11:20. > :11:21.is not as if it is the heat of the Sunday afternoon.

:11:22. > :11:36.A strange tee shot. He has got it. Well done. A couple

:11:37. > :11:43.of shots gone to par. Now he happens to make certain he does not finish

:11:44. > :11:54.worse than four, four. Rose and Garcia out in front. Fowler trying

:11:55. > :12:05.to stay within one and he has putted well.

:12:06. > :12:13.He has putted the best of everyone today. He has holed seven, eight

:12:14. > :12:19.very good putts. This is a testing one for Sergio and well done. A

:12:20. > :12:33.little chip down the green. The start of the third round, where

:12:34. > :12:44.they were, and watch them move. Charley Hoffman got to 6-under.

:12:45. > :12:52.Hoffman was out in front. And Hoffman then departed. HAZEL IRVINE:

:12:53. > :12:58.Several former champions in the mix. What about Adam Scott, winner in

:12:59. > :13:07.2013. Has not been in the top ten since but in touch after a round of

:13:08. > :13:12.69 today. Yesterday you said you felt you played well, how well did

:13:13. > :13:17.you play today? I played really well today. I hate to say it was easy

:13:18. > :13:24.today compare to the first two but the wind was not a factor and to

:13:25. > :13:29.stand on the 12th tee and not worry about it was nice. I wish I

:13:30. > :13:34.converted more chances. I played solid but not all putts were

:13:35. > :13:40.makeable. I did make a few good ones, I did not quite finish it off,

:13:41. > :13:45.the last four holes. I would have liked to have been that bit closer.

:13:46. > :13:51.I can sneak up on them tomorrow hopefully. If I play may be the

:13:52. > :13:56.round of the year for me I could be in with a chance. You have been

:13:57. > :14:02.there before. How much will that experience count? It counts for a

:14:03. > :14:07.little bit. I know I can do it. When you have to stand up and hit shots

:14:08. > :14:12.when there is no other option. I love that feeling and hopefully I

:14:13. > :14:17.will get myself to that position tomorrow. We have seen so many crazy

:14:18. > :14:24.things happen here on Sunday and hopefully it is crazy good for me.

:14:25. > :14:28.Best of luck tomorrow. ANDREW COTTER: He has only played four

:14:29. > :14:30.tournaments this year. He decided to play the week before the Masters and

:14:31. > :14:49.missed the cut last week in Houston. This man will be a bit frazzled,

:14:50. > :15:27.Peter. That was a serious mistake at the

:15:28. > :16:17.16th. Still smiling away. Beautiful second from Thomas

:16:18. > :16:21.Pieters. Well done. That is a good putt. He has come back well. He had

:16:22. > :16:26.an unhappy time in the middle of the round.

:16:27. > :17:10.An astonishing climb up the 18th. We'd talk about it. It is a good old

:17:11. > :17:21.clamber up there. Takes it out of you at the end of the day.

:17:22. > :17:40.Fine silks and dam from the Orient. And having a fag at the same time.

:17:41. > :18:12.-- damask. 151 yards. Big front bunker. Sloping

:18:13. > :18:25.green, left to right. It is so delicate. Another day it might

:18:26. > :18:33.wander down to the right. Talking about how quickly the light fades

:18:34. > :18:40.here. See almost a full moon copperhead. It does get gloomy quite

:18:41. > :18:44.quickly. 150 yards, Hoffman. -- the full moon up ahead. That looked to

:18:45. > :18:59.be straight at it. Let's remind ourselves of highlights

:19:00. > :19:21.from Justin Rose. That would go in for a birdie and

:19:22. > :19:32.this was the 13th. Two putts for a birdie. What a back nine. Talk about

:19:33. > :19:39.taking advantage of the par-5s at Augusta. Birdie on 13 and here at

:19:40. > :19:51.the 15th. What a touch from behind the green. Walking it down. And then

:19:52. > :20:00.finding the centre of the hole once more. Another birdie, three on the

:20:01. > :20:04.back nine. 17. One of the best second shots we had seen in here and

:20:05. > :20:13.again dead centre. Birdie number four. His six of the day. And then

:20:14. > :20:18.the final hole. You dream about a 3-3 finish at Augusta. It looks like

:20:19. > :20:25.he did not like it but it was because he knew it was good. He did

:20:26. > :20:31.not need to keep looking at it. With par at the 16th and birdie at the

:20:32. > :20:38.17th and this birdie at the 18th, it was a 3-3- three finish for Justin

:20:39. > :20:45.Rose. 67. Equalling his lowest round. He has done that, a couple of

:20:46. > :20:51.times. That gave him a share of the lead.

:20:52. > :20:59.This ball pitched well short, but did not stop, it kept going,

:21:00. > :21:11.climbing up the hill, leaving him this six, seven yards for birdie.

:21:12. > :21:28.Good strike. Nice four to finish. Not a bad day's work.

:21:29. > :21:47.34 out. One dropped shot at the 3rd. 35 home. 69. Good score.

:21:48. > :21:54.The shadows stretch out on the 17th green. Possibly the most exposed

:21:55. > :22:07.part of the course. Not a breath of wind today. Long green, wide green.

:22:08. > :22:12.You get the impression, how it runs through the middle. We were talking

:22:13. > :22:18.earlier with Paul Azinger, there is not really a green on this course

:22:19. > :22:28.you can say is easy. To William McGirt. Oohs from the crowd as it

:22:29. > :22:37.circles and drops. 74 today. Heading in the wrong direction.

:22:38. > :22:55.Now then, will it come round? No, it is too low. Left him one of those

:22:56. > :23:00.awkward ones. Looking at the leaderboard there is a hint of the

:23:01. > :23:04.Ryder Cup about it. Rose and Garcia, Fowler and Spieth just behind. A

:23:05. > :23:26.slightly different atmosphere. Beautiful position, right in the

:23:27. > :23:34.middle of the fairway. Go, go, he is saying. That is a club short. With

:23:35. > :23:45.the toing and froing and reading, you can still make mistakes and that

:23:46. > :23:56.was a club short. Blame the caddy. Ah, blame the wind. Rose and Garcia

:23:57. > :24:02.leading. Sergio may still creep ahead.

:24:03. > :24:12.Sliding across the crown of the green, over the top and down and if

:24:13. > :24:25.it is too fast, too heavy, it can go four, five, six feet past so easily.

:24:26. > :24:31.Good pace. Gosh, he has putted well. He has holed very little.

:24:32. > :24:47.They say four for Sergio. -- it is a safe four.

:24:48. > :24:54.He talked about how happy he is off the course at the moment and how

:24:55. > :25:05.that puts him in good stead on the course. So many times, Garcia has

:25:06. > :25:09.been rather woe is mean. He seems to be in a different place, as they

:25:10. > :25:16.say. Hoffman to save par. Well done. Two shots dropped at the

:25:17. > :25:45.short 16th. One hole left. Jordan Spieth, this was at the 6th.

:25:46. > :25:49.Where so many players had found themselves but he found the hole.

:25:50. > :25:55.First birdie of the day stop also birdie on the par-5 8th. And on the

:25:56. > :26:12.ninth. The best of the day, the second to

:26:13. > :26:17.the ninth. A tap-in birdie. 3-under par and 3-under for the tournament.

:26:18. > :26:25.Safely through Amen Corner and to the 13th green.

:26:26. > :26:37.That was for eagle. Fourth birdie of the day. Third shot to the 15th. You

:26:38. > :26:45.think of that in the first round that found the water. Exactly the

:26:46. > :26:56.same yardage, he said subsequently. Very different result and another

:26:57. > :27:09.birdie. Bogey on the 16th, his first drop shot after 13 holes.

:27:10. > :27:22.Fowler, a huge putt up the 18. Ernie Els, who had an unhappy day, he

:27:23. > :27:30.holed out. Finished with a three, did big Ernie. Fowler still has work

:27:31. > :27:39.to do. Garcia on the right-hand side. A nice angle to hit that the

:27:40. > :27:47.bunkers and perhaps slide a little bit of them. Beautiful. A fade to

:27:48. > :28:07.the right half of the fairway. He has sort of steady things,

:28:08. > :28:16.Charley Hoffman. He has not let the 16th and his adventures there really

:28:17. > :28:22.get to him. Putted on the 17th. He needs a true drive.

:28:23. > :28:36.That is OK. Pieters at the final hole. Recovered well. If he can get

:28:37. > :28:46.down in a couple of putts from here, or even one. Well judged. He has

:28:47. > :28:48.fought back well. Some rather untidy holes in the middle of the round,

:28:49. > :29:30.but in with a shout tomorrow. I was wondering how far away you can

:29:31. > :29:40.be too realistically have a chance. McIlroy will need something

:29:41. > :29:45.miraculous. Westwood is 1-under. Schwartzel, two. Adam Scott, three.

:29:46. > :29:57.Rickie Fowler. He is looking to finish on five. He has holed so many

:29:58. > :30:02.putts today. This would be the grand finale if you can pop this in. This

:30:03. > :30:09.is a short one. He has rattled them in from everywhere. He has done it

:30:10. > :30:30.again. He has putted magnificently. A long walk up to the scoring room.

:30:31. > :31:27.Hoffman is second to the 18th. Back on the green. Do not go down

:31:28. > :31:29.the hill. Can it? It mustn't. Charley does not deserve this. You

:31:30. > :31:54.see what I mean? You have no idea. Look at that. I should write to the

:31:55. > :31:56.Times. A little bit of evening moisture. Temperature dropping a

:31:57. > :32:09.bit. He has thrown it to the heavens. Has

:32:10. > :32:45.he let it slip bright? The final walk up. Sergio is still

:32:46. > :33:06.working out what he did wrong. HAZEL IRVINE: Round three, Justin

:33:07. > :33:18.Rose with the best of the day. His record equalling round at Augusta.

:33:19. > :33:36.He had tied second finish to Jordan Spieth.

:33:37. > :33:44.Sergio Garcia desperate to try to break his duck in Majors. What a

:33:45. > :33:57.picture this is and what a prospect for tomorrow. Peter Alliss: Up onto

:33:58. > :34:06.the green the gladiators fought. -- gladiators. They both have a lot of

:34:07. > :34:21.work to do to get down in two. They come in all shapes and sizes. Would

:34:22. > :34:28.you bet on them both getting down in two? Will they struggle. What would

:34:29. > :34:34.you think? I would take one of them to get down in two. I was thinking

:34:35. > :34:39.if Justin Rose were to win tomorrow and to go around with his Olympic

:34:40. > :34:48.medal over his green jacket. You wouldn't have an inferiority

:34:49. > :34:57.complex! Charley Hoffman. An awful time for him at the 16th. Of his own

:34:58. > :35:08.making. A lot of these putts wander off to the right near the hole. If

:35:09. > :35:13.he can get down in two, it is a job not too badly done, bearing in mind

:35:14. > :35:21.what happened to him at the 16th. But he is still in with a chance.

:35:22. > :35:25.Very much so. It is speed and line. Four feet left, or more coming up

:35:26. > :35:47.the hill. It has kept going. It started to

:35:48. > :35:55.move to the right. Five feet short. Television colleagues getting ready

:35:56. > :36:02.for a chat. Sergio, I do not know whether he has enough club from down

:36:03. > :36:12.there. We were talking earlier. Sergio's respotting in general --

:36:13. > :36:19.putting in general. Struggles in terms of getting the weight right.

:36:20. > :36:24.He has a very heavy putter. Which he likes to rock like a pendulum over

:36:25. > :36:30.the shorter putts. Let's see if he can find the distance on this. I am

:36:31. > :36:35.surprised so many use the claw putt from long range when they chip with

:36:36. > :36:39.an ordinary grip. He obviously feels comfortable doing it that way. But

:36:40. > :36:44.an ordinary grip for long putts would seem to be the answer, if you

:36:45. > :36:51.are having difficulty judging the distance. This is long, uphill, at

:36:52. > :36:58.halfway between him and the hole is the rise, up it comes, over the top.

:36:59. > :37:00.And it drifts away to the right and looks perfectly flat. And they are

:37:01. > :37:17.both faced with five, six footers. Come on, one of you, please. The

:37:18. > :37:25.reason he went to the claw grip in 2011 was because he felt the right

:37:26. > :37:29.hand was too dominant. He wanted to take that out of things. He

:37:30. > :37:34.practices with a conventional grip. You seem go to it and switch to the

:37:35. > :37:39.claw at the last minute. It has served him not to badly, but Hoffman

:37:40. > :38:01.is first to try. There would be a big cheer if this

:38:02. > :38:05.went in. Charley is the underdog. They like supporting the underdog.

:38:06. > :38:08.Come on, Charley. All the way. Well done, sir.

:38:09. > :38:22.Not a bad finish after the double bogey on the 15th. Four under. He

:38:23. > :38:29.led after the first round, he led for a spell during this round as

:38:30. > :38:38.well. The man from San Diego, Las Vegas now. He will be well pleased

:38:39. > :38:43.with that. He would certainly have taken that on Wednesday night if he

:38:44. > :38:53.had been offered that position. Now, Sergio for his four.

:38:54. > :39:12.A little bit of movement from this one, Andrew. We have seen the

:39:13. > :39:16.putting across the top of the green so many times. It depends on the

:39:17. > :39:25.speed. Sometimes its wings to the left. Sometimes it's OK.

:39:26. > :39:32.It's OK, Sergio. Well done. Well done indeed.

:39:33. > :39:45.Get him into the final group for tomorrow as well. It will be Garcia

:39:46. > :39:54.and Rose in the final group, chased down by Fowler and Spieth.

:39:55. > :40:03.HAZEL IRVINE: What a prospect, matching his best ever, Sergio.

:40:04. > :40:07.Great friends and colleagues from the Ryder Cup, up against each other

:40:08. > :40:15.in the final grouping out tomorrow. The final pairing. Last year, Danny

:40:16. > :40:23.Willett won Britain's first green jacket, could there be another?

:40:24. > :40:27.Rickie Fowler just one shot behind and he will accompany Jordan Spieth.

:40:28. > :40:32.As Andrew says, what a fantastic prospect it is for the Crown. And

:40:33. > :40:44.indeed the patrons at Augusta National. Ryan Moore so on that

:40:45. > :40:50.number. Adam Scott is lurking. He says he might sneak up on the

:40:51. > :40:57.leaders. Charl Schwartzel, too, in red numbers. Paul Casey after his

:40:58. > :41:02.round of 69 is some six shots behind now, as is Grand Slam chasing Rory

:41:03. > :41:07.McIlroy after a 1-under par round of 71. Jon Rahm, it wasn't a Saturday

:41:08. > :41:13.he will like to remember in a hurry, but he will learn. Phil Mickelson

:41:14. > :41:19.started off with great intentions, a 2-over par round of 74 today has put

:41:20. > :41:24.him in the group at 2-over. Branden Grace in the group at 5-under.

:41:25. > :41:30.Matthew Fitzpatrick as well, tied seventh here last year. Currently

:41:31. > :41:33.6-over, 12 shots off the pace. Some big numbers, because as we told you

:41:34. > :41:38.at the beginning of the broadcast, the first couple of days at Augusta

:41:39. > :41:47.were very, very challenging. 35-40 mph gusts. Marc Leishman has

:41:48. > :41:52.challenged here before, plus nine. There is Sergio Garcia after that

:41:53. > :41:57.round of 70 today. And a very brave putt to remain in pole position,

:41:58. > :42:05.joint pole position with Justin Rose today. In it goes. Who knows, he

:42:06. > :42:13.might have another go like that for a green jacket tomorrow. 37 years of

:42:14. > :42:17.age now, Sergio. He will be married later in the year. He is in a better

:42:18. > :42:22.space in his personal life than he has possibly been before. He has an

:42:23. > :42:30.aura about him this year that we haven't seen before I think it is

:42:31. > :42:36.ten years since his play-off at the Open Championship when he missed

:42:37. > :42:40.from, oh, five feet to win the Open Championship there, and he has been

:42:41. > :42:45.trying since to land one of these things. Four times he has been a

:42:46. > :42:49.runner-up in Majors, more top tens and anyone in history without

:42:50. > :42:56.winning one. Could this be the Spaniard's year? We shall see,

:42:57. > :43:00.because your head says Rose, your heart says Garcia. Your gut tells

:43:01. > :43:06.you that Jordan Spieth and many others may well have a say. And we

:43:07. > :43:09.will be back at 6:30 on BBC Two right here for live and

:43:10. > :43:16.uninterrupted coverage tomorrow of the final round. Don't fall get,

:43:17. > :43:22.digital feeds, live features around Amen Corner, and featured groups

:43:23. > :43:27.from 3:15. That is it, day three is over. Roll on day four. The green

:43:28. > :43:35.jacket will be won, but who will be wearing it come the Knights

:43:36. > :44:14.tomorrow? See you soon. -- come the night.

:44:15. > :44:21.You are the cream of the French aristocracy.
