:00:11. > :00:21.It is that time again. Good morning ladies and gentlemen, this is game

:00:21. > :00:25.

:00:25. > :00:32.number one. From the USA, Gerry APPLAUSE.

:00:32. > :00:42.Welcome to Royal St George's for the 140 at Open Championship. --

:00:42. > :01:10.

:01:10. > :01:18.Through the gates, and just been on the right of. If all England were a

:01:18. > :01:24.golf course, this would be the first tee, and the 18th green. 13

:01:24. > :01:30.times, the great and the good have strode out from this quirky corner.

:01:30. > :01:40.A southern softie? Not this one. Peril can show its face at the very

:01:40. > :01:52.

:01:52. > :01:56.first turn. All the very last. -- A reminder of the end during the

:01:57. > :02:06.truth of sport. It is not how you start, but how you finished --

:02:07. > :02:14.

:02:14. > :02:24.Endings and beginnings. This golfing gear -- year, the Open

:02:24. > :02:24.

:02:24. > :02:29.Welcome to the Kent coast and the luscious links of Royal Saint

:02:29. > :02:36.George's. Here we are on the first p, play has been under way since

:02:36. > :02:43.6:30am. -- the first tee. We have over one had done 40 hours of live

:02:43. > :02:47.golf before you in this golf Open Championship. 156 golfers are

:02:48. > :02:51.hoping to be the man to claim the claret jug here. Most of the

:02:51. > :02:55.attention has been on a Rory McIlroy. He is on the practice

:02:55. > :03:02.putting green at the moment. In a few minutes, he will make the short

:03:03. > :03:06.walk off 100 yards off Stoke to the first tee. His tee off time is

:03:06. > :03:13.9:09am. Usually reserved for Tiger Woods. But the man at the centre of

:03:13. > :03:18.attention, the US Open champion of three weeks ago, Rory McIlroy. He

:03:18. > :03:22.tees off at 9:09am, you will see that on BBC Two. If you are going

:03:22. > :03:32.to be open champion, and of Rory McIlroy, certainly wants to do it,

:03:32. > :03:33.

:03:33. > :03:37.the first thing you have to conquer Sandwich is famed for the humps and

:03:37. > :03:41.hollows on the fairways. A little bit of long rough about as well,

:03:41. > :03:46.not too bad, half a chance of playing on to the green. The

:03:46. > :03:52.bunkers are the usual deep chasms. Bloody sand but to be avoided at

:03:52. > :03:56.all cost. -- love the sand. It is the challenging conditions that

:03:56. > :04:01.will be at the forefront. A scudding breeze across the course

:04:01. > :04:07.and some rain. This is links golf. It is going to be a real battle

:04:07. > :04:17.over the next four days, and know Tiger Woods, as we mentioned, but

:04:17. > :04:19.

:04:19. > :04:23.plenty of big cats in a strong I always go back to what the great

:04:23. > :04:26.Jack Nicklaus said, he had half the field beaten at the start of the

:04:26. > :04:30.week because they didn't believe they could win the Championship. We

:04:30. > :04:36.have a host of players trying to win the first Major. Who believe

:04:36. > :04:46.they can? Mental strength will be critical, as it always is. Whoever

:04:46. > :04:48.

:04:48. > :04:52.wins this week will be following in Sometimes the claret jug of falls

:04:52. > :04:56.into unexpected Hants, and other times it goes to the greats of the

:04:56. > :05:00.game. Sometimes it goes to those who the home crowd are willing on

:05:00. > :05:02.to success. Whoever has there moment on the final green on Sunday

:05:02. > :05:08.night, it will be a moment that they and others will always

:05:08. > :05:14.remember. They will be clenching their fist on the 18th green on

:05:14. > :05:19.Sunday? Will it be Rory McIlroy? A fantastic reception for him. Lots

:05:19. > :05:23.of people talking about him this week. He said yesterday, he has

:05:23. > :05:27.only won three tournaments, but it is the man at in which he won the

:05:27. > :05:34.US Open three weeks ago by eight shots that has got everybody so

:05:34. > :05:38.excited -- the manner in which. Let's have a look at some of the

:05:38. > :05:48.tee-off times. Just ahead of of Rory McIlroy's Group, we have Paul

:05:48. > :05:49.

:05:49. > :05:59.Casey. He is alongside Ben Curtis, the champion of at 2003. And Aaron

:05:59. > :06:13.

:06:13. > :06:16.Just to let you know, the afternoon golf, some great games coming up.

:06:17. > :06:24.Lee Westwood at 2:10pm and also the reigning Open champion lily is

:06:24. > :06:34.1,000 goes off at 221 -- Lewis's 1,000. We will concentrate on Rory

:06:34. > :06:58.

:06:58. > :07:02.Rory McIlroy is playing -- was playing golf with his dad on Monday

:07:02. > :07:07.in Ireland, this will be very different as he tees off in the

:07:07. > :07:17.Open Championship. This is the 14th we have had at royal St Georges. We

:07:17. > :07:21.

:07:21. > :07:26.will hand over to the commentary rather blustery day. Play started

:07:26. > :07:36.at 6:30am, an ungodly hour, but the course so far has not been mastered

:07:36. > :07:41.

:07:41. > :07:50.by anybody. Now we have some pretty this three ball gets ready to smack

:07:50. > :08:00.them a wave. Benny Els, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler -- Ernie

:08:00. > :08:01.

:08:01. > :08:11.brilliantly. But the next four days will tell us something. Let's have

:08:11. > :08:12.

:08:12. > :08:22.a look down this first hole. They have flattened a bit of a down. A

:08:22. > :08:27.

:08:27. > :08:32.Three huge bunkers at the front. And often, the greens are slightly

:08:32. > :08:42.raised and the ball so easily wanders off. A lot of these greens

:08:42. > :08:46.

:08:46. > :08:51.around 6am. Fancy starting a round of golf at 6 am! And only a bowl of

:08:51. > :08:56.cereal to keep you going. Maureen Madill will be strolling out, how

:08:56. > :09:01.it is it? It is tremendously exciting. The atmosphere is

:09:01. > :09:08.building with huge crowds already. Rory McIlroy is looking limber and

:09:08. > :09:13.Lewis, as part -- as are his playing companions. This is game

:09:13. > :09:23.number 15. From South Africa, Ernie Els.

:09:23. > :09:23.

:09:23. > :10:03.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:10:03. > :10:13.is much more downwind. Not the at Rory McIlroy.

:10:13. > :10:35.

:10:35. > :10:42.does. Since the Masters, he has done so well to just get on with

:10:42. > :10:52.his game. Beautiful to watch. On the tee, from the USA, Rickie

:10:52. > :11:15.

:11:15. > :11:25.What a good shot back tears. -- what a good shot at that is. An

:11:25. > :11:29.

:11:29. > :11:34.extra 30 or 40 yards. And off they grandad in that group, with a

:11:34. > :11:44.couple of 22 year-olds. -- Ernie Els. He looks like a giant

:11:44. > :11:47.

:11:47. > :11:51.We have got Matt Taylor, Al weatherman. We have mentioned the

:11:51. > :11:54.course and looked at the field, and talked about the probabilities, but

:11:54. > :12:00.the weather always comes into an Open Championship. What can we

:12:00. > :12:03.expect today? Luke Donald said it could be the weather that dictates

:12:03. > :12:07.this Open Championship. Today, we have probably seen the worst. It

:12:07. > :12:11.should be dry, but there is still a blustery wind. It is probably

:12:11. > :12:15.favouring those who will tee off later on. All the rest of the

:12:15. > :12:19.weekend, tomorrow will be the best day, the driest and the sunniest

:12:19. > :12:22.with light winds, but into the weekend it gets interesting. A lot

:12:22. > :12:27.of rain around on Saturday with strong winds and they will continue

:12:27. > :12:31.into Sunday. So it will get very interesting as we get towards the

:12:31. > :12:34.weekend. I am sure you will keep this up to date to let the next few

:12:34. > :12:36.days. Thank you for joining us. days. Thank you for joining us.

:12:36. > :12:46.Let's bring you up to date with the gold and show you the leaderboard

:12:46. > :13:03.

:13:03. > :13:11.1989. He was in the second group wrong for him in 2003 here at 16.

:13:11. > :13:15.The group of at 9:09am, McIlroy, Danielle's and Rickie Fowler. --

:13:15. > :13:20.Ernie Els. We will hand back to the commentary team and we should give

:13:20. > :13:25.them the big build-up. A Mark James and Peter Alliss, who is

:13:25. > :13:27.commentating -- has been commentating -- has been

:13:27. > :13:31.commentating for 50 years now. There is no need to tell everyone I

:13:31. > :13:38.have been doing this for 50 years, but I remember it very well, it was

:13:38. > :13:44.at Birkdale. Cliff Mitchell ball was Alla Hazel Irvine. He is a

:13:44. > :13:48.little bit different. -- our Hazel Irvine. John Jacobs was there and

:13:48. > :13:52.all in all, it was the start of a wonderful journey for me. I have

:13:52. > :13:58.kept fooling everyone 4-over 50 years and it looks as though I

:13:58. > :14:01.might be looking everyone -- might be able to continue to doing that.

:14:01. > :14:05.The game fascinates me, all of the new preparations with the golf

:14:05. > :14:09.course, they equipment and all the bits of pieces that go with setting

:14:09. > :14:14.up this Championship. The infrastructure is colossal and the

:14:14. > :14:17.way it is organised by everybody from the Royal and Ancient to all

:14:17. > :14:20.the volunteers, it is absolutely stunning. When you think of the

:14:20. > :14:25.stunning. When you think of the effort that goes into it, and it is

:14:25. > :14:29.so disappointing if the weather plays a Major part in proceedings.

:14:29. > :14:37.I said earlier, the greens are difficult to find here, they are

:14:37. > :14:41.slightly raised. A lot of them are. There is a lot of forelocks. --

:14:41. > :14:47.fall off. They are angle across the player. I was talking to Tom Watson

:14:47. > :14:53.who said that finding the greens here is one of the most difficult

:14:53. > :15:03.Championship courses. So there will be mistakes made. Some of them will

:15:03. > :15:11.

:15:11. > :15:18.be unforced. It is a par 70, which players. Rory McIlroy pointed

:15:18. > :15:22.across to Rickie Fowler on the left-hand side of the fairway. This

:15:22. > :15:28.hole goes down wind. The challenge will be to get a grip on the ball

:15:28. > :15:35.and not go bouncing through. Trying to lift it up, but it might be

:15:35. > :15:39.difficult to spin it out of the rough. He did pretty well. It went

:15:39. > :15:49.trickling to the back. That is the problem with the first hole. You do

:15:49. > :16:13.

:16:13. > :16:20.to stop. The flag on the front and that will go down at the back. And

:16:20. > :16:25.then you are faced with a chip and run. Everybody will be in the same

:16:26. > :16:33.boat. And the first tee a for Luke Donald, the world number one. What

:16:33. > :16:43.a delight for player he is to watch. But first, Ernie Els. He should get

:16:43. > :16:45.

:16:45. > :16:53.a little more spin. And he cut that very fine. It was a good shot.

:16:53. > :16:59.There is a bunker at 350 from the tee, so we will see a lot today. He

:16:59. > :17:05.has a chance for a birdie. You get an idea of how large the exhibition

:17:05. > :17:09.tent is on the right-hand side. The television compound is on the left.

:17:09. > :17:19.And our friends from the United States I here with the golf

:17:19. > :17:32.

:17:32. > :17:42.channels. -- are here. It takes a done. It looked as if it was going

:17:42. > :17:49.

:17:49. > :17:56.to come out. That was a good hole memories he has of years ago. Three

:17:56. > :18:06.shots ahead with three or four holes left. But he took many shots

:18:06. > :18:09.

:18:09. > :18:17.to get out of the bunker and his not want to start with a three from

:18:17. > :18:26.the edge of the first green. This can be very slow into the wind.

:18:26. > :18:32.This is a feature of links course golf. Years ago it would be a

:18:32. > :18:42.perfect chip and run with an 8-iron at most. Some of the greats a few

:18:42. > :18:54.

:18:54. > :19:02.years ago would have used a 5-iron touching. Rickie Fowler has a rise

:19:02. > :19:07.in front of him. It will sweep from the right-hand side. I am not

:19:07. > :19:17.surprised to see Rory McIlroy watching this very closely.

:19:17. > :19:31.

:19:31. > :19:41.decided to putt it. How about this? A I think he did. Now, there is no

:19:41. > :19:55.

:19:55. > :20:02.excuse for Rory McIlroy it to miss off. And that puts it up to Rory

:20:02. > :20:12.McIlroy. The pace of the opening putt is crucial to the whole day.

:20:12. > :20:30.

:20:30. > :20:36.It is fascinating how the ball move playing it cagey with a 3-wood.

:20:37. > :20:46.Avoiding the bunker on the right and leaving a shot into get

:20:47. > :20:59.

:20:59. > :21:05.kick. He was in the rough and now group. What do you reckon? They

:21:05. > :21:14.could not have a much easier tee shot. As tee shots go at the Open

:21:14. > :21:24.Championship, it is downwind, to the left. I'm sure there are still

:21:24. > :21:33.

:21:33. > :21:42.a few nerves. But this is Garcia!

:21:42. > :21:47.APPLAUSE A crowd favourite, Garcia. He has been in the doldrums the

:21:47. > :21:52.last two or three years. He has struggled with his putting and lost

:21:52. > :21:57.his game for a while. There have been signs this years he is putting

:21:57. > :22:07.better. There are not many players who have more shots than Sergio

:22:07. > :22:17.

:22:17. > :22:27.Garcia. And a links golf course his even with that, for some of these

:22:27. > :22:44.

:22:44. > :22:54.guys, they will get close to the official with every match. There is

:22:54. > :23:05.

:23:05. > :23:15.some body volunteering as bunker back down there and it did not take

:23:15. > :23:48.

:23:48. > :23:54.year-old. We are joined by Ken Brown. You will be commentating

:23:54. > :23:57.later. You have looked at the greens. Tom Watson has won this

:23:57. > :24:03.tournament five times and says that the greens are harder than any

:24:03. > :24:09.other on the open rota. They have some of the biggest slopes and run-

:24:09. > :24:17.offs. There are many breaks and Burroughs. They are very tough to

:24:17. > :24:27.putt. It will be tricky to get iron shot within ten feet. Rickie Fowler

:24:27. > :24:27.

:24:27. > :24:35.made a mockery of that this morning. He got a putt from 30 odd feet.

:24:35. > :24:39.stand at the first was deserted. His tee shot drifted. He could not

:24:39. > :24:46.spin his iron shot. A lot of players will go to the back of the

:24:47. > :24:51.first green. Not an ideal start, but the support is unbelievable.

:24:51. > :25:01.This will give you an idea of the breeze. It is straight down the

:25:01. > :25:02.

:25:02. > :25:07.first. Not an easy pin on that first corner. I will have a go.

:25:07. > :25:17.Let's get back on with the golf. We can go to Rickie Fowler on the

:25:17. > :25:22.

:25:22. > :25:29.first green. After that monster putt from off the green, about 25

:25:29. > :25:39.yards, maybe, it will be Rickie Fowler with the honour. He sneaked

:25:39. > :25:43.

:25:44. > :25:51.in and drove before we were looking. It looks like a 3-wood, which --

:25:51. > :25:56.which is an aggressive player. a Rickie Fowler hitter good one?

:25:56. > :26:01.am quite a long way down the fairway. I think he took his driver.

:26:01. > :26:06.I am not able to see it but I think it is on the left-hand side. I am

:26:06. > :26:14.getting a signal that it looks OK. You are certainly not over the

:26:14. > :26:22.hill! Ernie Els is chopping and changing. He is out with the big

:26:22. > :26:32.furniture, I think. The 7th hole. Alvaro Quiros. This is for eagle.

:26:32. > :26:36.

:26:36. > :26:44.This would be sweet. Well done! think the wind power to go over. --

:26:44. > :26:50.took over. It has taken a while to make a decision. Let's hope it is

:26:50. > :27:00.the right one. It is the timber. think he is going for the green

:27:00. > :27:00.

:27:00. > :27:58.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:27:58. > :28:06.with that. 415 yards downwind. It Ishikawa, and it is a difficult

:28:06. > :28:16.shot. -- only 78 yards. If he went for the chip and run and he was

:28:16. > :28:33.

:28:33. > :28:43.Quiros. This is for birdie which would put him 2-under. It is a big

:28:43. > :28:48.

:28:48. > :28:56.hole on this green. They are both a is how they stand at the moment.

:28:56. > :29:00.Play has been going on for three hours. 6:30am. Poor old Jerry Kelly.

:29:00. > :29:07.He started the first ball. He had a miserable time when he was here

:29:07. > :29:12.years ago and he has not made much progress since then. He is well

:29:12. > :29:22.over-par, but he still has a cheery smile on his face. The par here is

:29:22. > :29:24.

:29:24. > :29:33.70, which is brutal. The yellow numbers tell us how many holes they

:29:33. > :29:43.have played. The young Italian prodigy, Matteo Manassero. And this

:29:43. > :29:57.

:29:57. > :30:07.championships and tournaments. A very talented player. We have some

:30:07. > :30:22.

:30:22. > :30:27.good young talent. Sergio chipped At the last six or seven feet, it

:30:27. > :30:37.turns left. It was plain to see when Rickie Fowler holed that long

:30:37. > :30:45.

:30:45. > :30:52.Lovely start. Just got him as an alternative as well, so he is

:30:52. > :30:58.making the most of it. Maureen is lurking down that on the second

:30:58. > :31:03.somewhere. Where are they all? is very interesting, they have all

:31:03. > :31:08.elected for a different strategy. McIlroy leaving himself 126 yards

:31:08. > :31:14.back and it is a bit of an evil back row pin position. It is just a

:31:14. > :31:24.teetering on the top of the bank. The ball is swept away down into

:31:24. > :31:36.

:31:36. > :31:39.authorities, but if they knew the wind was going to be this strong

:31:39. > :31:49.and a following wind on the first and second, to put the flags where

:31:49. > :31:59.

:31:59. > :32:04.they have done, it is testing once can see it gathering eventually

:32:04. > :32:11.from that side, it is in a little cut, back back row pin. MAUREEN

:32:11. > :32:16.MADILL: Rickie Fowler has come down the same way he did at the first.

:32:16. > :32:22.Just a quarter turn in this hole. It is sweeping slightly from left

:32:22. > :32:28.to right. He is going to take a bead well left of this flag. The

:32:28. > :32:33.wind and the ter rain will sweep it down the right-hand side. -- the

:32:34. > :32:43.rain. It is a question of just trying to get the ball in the

:32:44. > :32:52.

:32:52. > :33:02.middle of the green, irrespective gnashing of teeth if this wind

:33:02. > :33:28.

:33:28. > :33:32.started this. -- tippy tappy. They MAUREEN MADILL: Ernie Els must have

:33:32. > :33:42.breathed a sigh of relief, when he saw it had fell short, but this is

:33:42. > :33:47.

:33:47. > :33:57.difficult. It is difficult, of course. We have only been going

:33:57. > :34:04.

:34:04. > :34:08.three and a half hours and already I think the direction is reasonably

:34:08. > :34:18.friendly overall for the course. But I don't fancy the first two

:34:18. > :34:43.

:34:43. > :34:53.more difficult because of the hole position. Sergio has had problems

:34:53. > :34:53.

:35:39. > :35:44.the last year or two but that was drive and a little chip. This wind

:35:44. > :35:48.is accelerated and the ball down the fairway. You get some idea of

:35:48. > :35:52.the running of the green. The back left where the flag is, there is a

:39:02. > :39:12.

:39:12. > :39:22.for Rory, this will be just left of centre, I fancy. A little bit of

:39:39. > :39:44.short there it was. Ken Brown has made his way back into the box. He

:39:44. > :39:49.is wiping his glasses. He has a look of keen anticipation on his

:39:59. > :40:15.

:40:15. > :40:19.that, we will look at Mark comfortable club house, but it is

:40:37. > :40:38.

:40:38. > :40:44.the lieutenant Colonel bashing one KEN BROWN: This third hole plays

:44:37. > :44:44.You are a good friend of person -- Bob McIlroy. Howard you think he

:44:44. > :44:48.has started off? -- how do you think. Not ideal, but he is used to

:44:48. > :44:53.playing links courses. He is able to cope with that type of situation,

:44:53. > :44:57.but there is a long way to go and he seemed to have got it together

:44:57. > :45:02.after the first hole. It is just about holding good. In these sort

:45:02. > :45:06.of conditions, anything can happen and the game can change with two or

:45:06. > :45:09.three good shot. You know what it is like around here, you have

:45:09. > :45:14.played it many times and you know how tough it is even for

:45:14. > :45:18.professionals. It is incredibly hard. The Americans must be

:45:18. > :45:22.heartbroken, it is one thing play with the wind is then but when the

:45:22. > :45:26.wind is up, it makes it so difficult. There are not meant to

:45:26. > :45:30.be high scores, low scores. It is going to be pretty ordinary,

:45:30. > :45:35.because the wind takes the ball everywhere. It is about keeping

:45:35. > :45:39.your patience, and the greens are bumpy and fast. It is all up in the

:45:39. > :45:43.air. It will be interesting to see who will hold their nerve up and

:45:43. > :45:48.keep it together. The short game is so important. I saw you having a

:45:48. > :45:53.long chat with McIlroy on the practise green. What sort of mood

:45:53. > :45:58.is he in? He is a very mellow and humble kid, he keeps things very

:45:58. > :46:02.simple. He has a great family around him. I don't think anything

:46:02. > :46:07.has changed. He has had a bit of a break since the US Open and taken a

:46:07. > :46:11.bit of time to settle down and allow the euphoria and hysteria to

:46:11. > :46:16.die down. He is a level-headed kid and does things right, keeps things

:46:16. > :46:21.nice and calm. He has a bright future ahead of him. Thank you. You

:46:21. > :46:31.throw Levin punch and hit a mean golf ball. Let's go back to the

:46:31. > :46:48.

:46:48. > :46:58.It was a wonderful shot. It was difficult to control out of the

:46:58. > :47:04.

:47:04. > :47:10.this. He had a lot of grass between the ball and the club and that was

:47:10. > :47:20.the danger, he got a little bit too much. A very difficult combination

:47:20. > :47:22.

:47:22. > :47:26.coming downhill, but into the wind. Not an easy start for Rory.

:47:26. > :47:34.definitely could not have been more different conditions from the US

:47:34. > :47:44.Open. It was hot, the greens were soft. The course played quite long.

:47:44. > :47:52.

:48:26. > :48:31.control trajectory. Judging the breeze. Ernie Els facing a

:48:31. > :48:35.switchback putt. Swinging from right to left. It will gather pace

:48:35. > :48:45.as it comes towards the hole. He has to be careful because the

:48:45. > :49:09.

:49:09. > :49:18.the win in 2002 at Muirfield. 41 years old. I wonder if there is

:49:18. > :49:25.another Major left in him. He would join just a few players to make

:49:25. > :49:35.Majors once they have reached the age of 40. I think most of the

:49:53. > :50:03.break has been taken out of this rough with this move, this week. Do

:50:03. > :50:10.

:51:05. > :51:51.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 40 seconds

:51:51. > :51:58.third for a bogey. Not the ideal start for Rory McIlroy. As he makes

:51:58. > :52:06.his way to the 4th tee, this is the 4th hole. Very famous. You can see

:52:06. > :52:09.something to be worried about. Ken Brown has been investigating.

:52:09. > :52:15.4th tee shot into the breeze is spooky. On the right-hand side

:52:15. > :52:21.there is a bunker, and it is a big bunker. Look at the size of that. I

:52:21. > :52:29.will drop a couple of balls in. Into the breeze, look at it. I dare

:52:29. > :52:34.not drop in there. Unbelievable. So, a scary tee shot. On the left side

:52:34. > :52:40.of the fairway, there is something else. If you endeavour to miss the

:52:40. > :52:47.right hand bunkers, you trickled down the left side. And, what you

:52:47. > :52:54.cannot see from the tee, a greedy bunker. If you miss the fairway,

:52:54. > :53:04.you are in trouble. Right, terrible. On the left, a sneaky one. What a

:53:04. > :53:15.

:53:15. > :53:25.right. Not him play unless you completely miss it. Ernie Els using

:53:25. > :53:39.

:53:39. > :53:48.into the bunker in the first round in 2003. Or 1993. He took a triple

:53:48. > :53:56.bogey. Today, no problem playing down wind off the tee. 495 yards

:53:56. > :54:02.par four. They will drive it up to the narrow neck here and turn

:54:02. > :54:12.slightly left. It is not a big green. Not a big target. They will

:54:12. > :54:33.

:54:33. > :54:43.there is another one. It is hard to hit something that far off line

:54:43. > :55:07.

:55:07. > :55:17.you can get the club on the back of youngsters want to look at it, they

:55:17. > :55:39.

:55:40. > :55:49.can see it on the internet. It was would be a big birthday present for

:55:50. > :56:02.

:56:02. > :56:08.the Brit if he were to win this Donald. Absolutely magic. There

:56:08. > :56:18.will not be many better than that today. Playing alongside Sergio

:56:18. > :56:55.

:56:55. > :57:00.Sergio Garcia. He has been finding form in the past six months.

:57:00. > :57:07.Ishikawa going with the five-iron. 240 yards down wind. The same club

:57:07. > :57:12.as Luke Donald hit. Just a little bit quick, that swing. He got the

:57:12. > :57:18.club behind him and left it out to the right. He has not have the best

:57:18. > :57:28.year when you consider how well he has played. He has had a couple of

:57:28. > :57:37.

:57:37. > :57:47.seconds or a third. And he has winner on the PGA Tour. He had a

:57:47. > :58:05.

:58:05. > :58:11.Sometimes, when it is breezy, not spinning the ball is an advantage.

:58:11. > :58:18.This is Garcia. He has a big shoulder turn. He drops the club

:58:18. > :58:23.inside. Through the ball. Looking at the target. It is breathtaking.

:58:23. > :58:33.He was trying to hit that one a little bit higher so he could land

:58:33. > :58:48.

:58:48. > :58:58.There is a strict par of 70. Anybody scoring under 70 will be

:58:58. > :59:10.

:59:10. > :59:17.he had at the back of the last. It is very difficult to get the blade

:59:17. > :59:26.on the golf ball. Coming from the left is really a tough shot. That

:59:26. > :59:31.was brilliant. That was a fantastic shot. This is such a different test

:59:31. > :59:36.from the US Open, where it was a mat the pin. On this course, you

:59:36. > :59:42.are not even aiming at the pin. Where do I miss if I can get down

:59:42. > :59:47.in two. And making bogeys from know where in conditions like this, but

:59:47. > :59:53.you have to be patient. You have to roll with the punches. It is not

:59:53. > :59:57.easy to do, sometimes. He will be feeling more settled now that he

:59:57. > :00:06.has one of those Major championships under his belt. That

:00:06. > :00:11.was a second shot for Rickie Fowler. A good example of how you have to

:00:11. > :00:17.laugh land the ball. That was not bad. Not a difficult up and down

:00:17. > :00:27.from there. Nickel Roy and Rickie Fowler played together at the

:00:27. > :00:28.

:00:28. > :00:32.Masters. -- Rory McIlroy. I am excited about Jason Day. He has

:00:32. > :00:42.finished second in the past two Majors. We have a few good players

:00:42. > :00:52.

:00:52. > :01:02.tee, the easier it is to come into the green. Still having to contend

:01:02. > :01:11.with this slope one to the green. He can see what he's aiming at.

:01:11. > :01:21.not quite a carry that far enough. A little further right and it would

:01:32. > :01:32.

:01:32. > :01:38.as strong as recent days? It is very close. Maybe not quite. 20 mph

:01:38. > :01:48.the last couple of days. Probably about 18. Still at testing golf

:01:48. > :01:50.

:01:50. > :02:00.course. -- eight testing golf course. Garcia looking a little bit

:02:00. > :02:10.more comfortable with himself. has not really gone for crazy shot.

:02:10. > :02:11.

:07:21. > :07:58.

:07:58. > :08:05.17th attempt at winning the Open. That is a good look at the 5th hole.

:08:05. > :08:10.We will have a look at it. In the practice rounds it was almost

:08:10. > :08:18.straight off the tee hard left to right. It will be more difficult

:08:18. > :08:23.getting into the fairway to avoid the bunkers. If you're not in the

:08:23. > :08:29.perfect position, he will not get a view of the flag. When you get

:08:29. > :08:39.through there, it is quite open. Not a lot of problems around the

:08:39. > :09:11.

:09:11. > :09:21.fairway. He has to try to get the ball on that little ledge. Very

:09:21. > :09:40.

:09:40. > :09:50.difficult. Especially in this that swing. Consequently he has let

:09:50. > :10:11.

:10:11. > :10:17.it right on the wind and missed the people are or celebrated. Rickie

:10:17. > :10:23.Fowler has still not won on the American Tour yet. He played the

:10:23. > :10:30.American Tour last year as a rookie. Very quick to put them in the

:10:40. > :10:44.

:10:44. > :10:54.future. Links golf! You never say good shot until you see the ball

:10:54. > :11:09.

:11:29. > :11:37.ourselves in a blowing garden. It is a beautiful house. Beautiful

:11:37. > :11:42.garden. It belongs to these two. If we turn-around, you can see the

:11:42. > :11:48.fourth green. They have just had a great view of Rory McIlroy. The

:11:48. > :11:58.world number one is approaching. If you do not mind, I might join you

:11:58. > :12:11.

:12:11. > :12:20.for a few minutes. Lovely. Back to Donald is well back. In perfect

:12:30. > :12:44.

:12:44. > :12:53.interesting to see how they go this pin is obviously in as little

:13:30. > :13:46.

:13:46. > :13:55.has been playing. Very competitive. He would have to landed short of

:14:05. > :14:17.

:14:17. > :14:23.perfect spot on the third. And now of shots. It is by far the best way

:14:24. > :14:33.of playing golf. Next to play his Ishikawa. He has had some awkward

:14:34. > :14:35.

:14:35. > :14:44.shot on the second from it G8 yards -- 88. He is certainly finding out

:14:44. > :14:52.what links golf is all about. This is from 155 yards. It looked like

:14:52. > :15:02.he hit that thinly. He got lucky. It hit the stand for the camera and

:15:02. > :15:05.

:15:05. > :15:15.came back. His swing is so quick. So different from a look at Donald.

:15:15. > :15:30.

:15:30. > :15:40.under. After a huge tee shot from Garcia. Just 144 yards remains. He

:15:40. > :16:20.

:16:20. > :16:25.does not want to get too much spin has no sight of the green what so

:16:25. > :16:30.where there. He has been up the hill to try to get his line. He has

:16:30. > :16:40.been fortunate. He has a good live out here. The rough can sit down,

:16:40. > :16:42.

:16:42. > :16:49.but it is not too bad here -- he has a good lie. You get a feeling

:16:49. > :16:59.of a little more space. And from almost the first time, a bit of

:16:59. > :17:32.

:17:32. > :17:38.room to work with. The flag is decent shot, but it landed softly.

:17:38. > :17:48.Still, a straightforward shot up the green. 208 yards for Rory

:18:39. > :18:45.generally down wind, and usually you would think that would help,

:18:45. > :18:50.but it has been testing. Garcia thought he had hit a great shot.

:18:50. > :18:56.Just a fraction of rain overnight has put a little bit of doubt in a

:19:35. > :19:40.Garcia. He still has this for a ball going, rolling past the hole.

:19:40. > :19:44.One of those putts we have seen Sergio Garcia struggling with for
