:06:02. > :06:09.look at this. It was three. Tom Watson. The five Open winners did
:06:09. > :06:12.creep across the line. Lee Westwood has extended his lead and this is
:06:13. > :06:19.the oldest player to make the cut at the Open. It was all happening
:06:19. > :06:26.on Friday evening. That was below ground and say was that. Holing out
:06:26. > :06:32.from the sand, Tiger Woods. So he is 6-under par. And just after we
:06:32. > :06:40.went off the air, Thorbjorn Olesen slotted this one a cross to take
:06:40. > :06:45.4th place. He has never won on the European Tour. But when he is on
:06:45. > :06:51.form, he is really good. So the leaderboard was looking like this
:06:51. > :06:56.last night after some truly spectacular golf. It was dominated
:06:56. > :07:03.by Brandt Snedeker. He has not visited a single one of the Tim

:08:17. > :08:26.copes under the microscope. And the two meant that have lit up the
:08:26. > :08:32.course at 3:20pm. We can watch all of that I am told that --. --
:08:32. > :08:37.of that I am told that --. -- unfold. It is great to have tea
:08:37. > :08:42.with us, Tony. And demand that began an era of great golf. It is
:08:42. > :08:46.25 years since your first Open victory, Nick Faldo. We have got
:08:46. > :08:54.stiff competition because Brandt Snedeker has equalled you'll round
:08:54. > :09:00.of 66. I was on Twitter watching it yesterday and Mike son was
:09:00. > :09:07.graduating yesterday. I was thinking, I do not like that!. I
:09:07. > :09:13.will not tell you much about that but I am delighted. I am still
:09:13. > :09:18.proud of any Open record that I have got. He has been with us for
:09:18. > :09:25.the first couple of days. Tony, how would you count rise what we have
:09:25. > :09:30.seen? We have had some good golf played. But we have had a benign
:09:30. > :09:37.weather. It has been like American golf. Bowls backing up on the
:09:37. > :09:40.greens with approach shots. It has meant that these players have not
:09:41. > :09:45.attacked the flags. The challenge is to keep out of the bunkers. You
:09:45. > :09:54.have to get it off the tee at Royal Lytham and that is our great
:09:54. > :09:58.importance. Otherwise you can get a shot penalty. But the people that
:09:58. > :10:02.stay out of the bunkers, it is interesting to hear because I did
:10:02. > :10:08.not realise that Brandt Snedeker had not been in a bunker. That is
:10:08. > :10:13.part of the reason he is ahead. His parting is very good of cause and
:10:13. > :10:17.that is part and parcel of winning the Championship. If you are not
:10:17. > :10:21.holing putts he will not be there at the weekend. We will talk
:10:21. > :10:28.specifically about what will be happening. We cannot have you in
:10:28. > :10:38.the studio without indulging in memories. We can start with you,
:10:38. > :10:49.
:10:49. > :10:58.Absolutely perfect so far. He is in complete control of himself. What a
:10:58. > :11:03.corker. My word, that was a fine drive. The finest I have ever seen.
:11:03. > :11:08.This is a short shot but they all count and Tony Jacklin is the
:11:08. > :11:13.count and Tony Jacklin is the winner. I keep trying to stop
:11:13. > :11:19.myself from thinking about it. But you think about the shot and you
:11:20. > :11:26.try to forget it. I have not had a chance for it to sink in yet. I
:11:26. > :11:30.have never been happier in my whole life. No wonder we had emotion
:11:30. > :11:36.there and we have still got that when we looked back. Years have
:11:36. > :11:41.gone past but how often I reminded on a weekly basis of that?
:11:41. > :11:47.never forget because your senses are all heightened and at that time
:11:47. > :11:52.you are focused. Emotionally, you are controlling everything. I think
:11:52. > :11:58.for the weekend when it is that mental fortitude. I'd visualised
:11:58. > :12:05.myself doing this before it happened. It is adding that mental
:12:05. > :12:10.fortitude not to let your mind wander ahead. It is easy to say but
:12:10. > :12:14.the reality is very difficult. I said to Jack Nicklaus that I did
:12:14. > :12:21.not think I could ever be that nervous and play golf and he said,
:12:21. > :12:28.I know, isn't it great? He has been there many times. It is not over
:12:28. > :12:32.until it is finished. You have just got to control yourself. That is
:12:32. > :12:38.the great satisfaction. You can put your head on the pillow and think,
:12:38. > :12:44.I have beaten everybody that turned up today. That is the best thing
:12:44. > :12:50.you can have as a professional. was caught in the is known. I had
:12:50. > :12:58.the same feeling at Muirfield. It is feeling very blurry and your
:12:58. > :13:03.little world is just two steps in front of you. But I remember his
:13:03. > :13:10.words and being in a cocoon. Or you can control his yourself and your
:13:10. > :13:14.emotions and play a shot by shot. And at the beginning of the week I
:13:15. > :13:21.walked past the leaderboard and I was messing about with the putter.
:13:21. > :13:26.I saw my name at the top and I thought, I can handle that. And I
:13:26. > :13:32.knew that I would be sitting on Monday morning at Breakfast with
:13:32. > :13:39.that and the BBC doing an interview. They saw that and I thought, OK, I
:13:39. > :13:46.will stick around for that. It's people tell the -- people tell you
:13:46. > :13:51.how to put up with that. This is the greatest computer ever, these
:13:51. > :13:56.human mind. If you say that he wants to hang around on Sunday, you
:13:56. > :14:05.will. You have got to keep that promise to yourself that you are
:14:05. > :14:10.going to get a stamp. You have got to mean that. That is the hard bit.
:14:10. > :14:18.You were about 12 when he won at Royal Lytham. Can you put in
:14:18. > :14:27.context house significant that was for British golf? I only watched it
:14:27. > :14:34.in 1971. I did not have colour television until I was 12 or. Not
:14:34. > :14:38.like my daughter now! I do not think I saw him. I only saw him
:14:38. > :14:45.later in 1971 and then I saw pictures of him in magazines and
:14:45. > :14:53.that sort of thing. I did not even they what golf was. A You make me
:14:53. > :15:03.feel old! You think that so that was the first triumph. Your first
:15:03. > :15:07.
:15:07. > :15:11.title was in 1987. We can reflect That is what it is all about, the
:15:11. > :15:19.claret jug. He is the most dedicated professional in the game
:15:19. > :15:25.of golf. That is a beautiful drive. That was an exquisite shot. Well
:15:25. > :15:32.done. Nick Faldo is the champion. He has the ability of playing the
:15:32. > :15:40.right shot at the right time. it is. This, to be champion. There
:15:40. > :15:48.you have it. Absolutely fantastic. It is wonderful. I'm going to
:15:48. > :15:51.cherish this moment. Thank you. Well, that was your era. When you
:15:51. > :15:55.think back to the first one, clearly it was a breakthrough. What
:15:55. > :16:02.was it that enabled you to go one and galvanise your career, three
:16:02. > :16:07.Masters titles to follow? What is it? I was determined. I loved the
:16:07. > :16:11.majors, as Tony described. You love the feeling. You were quite happy
:16:11. > :16:17.to prepare like crazy and you throw yourself in the depend, as I call
:16:17. > :16:22.it, without water wings. -- in the deep end. And you enjoyed that
:16:22. > :16:25.feeling. Playing golf on a Sunday afternoon in a major is the
:16:25. > :16:29.greatest moment in our career. If you survive it and you come out...
:16:29. > :16:35.That was the greatest thrill, to have you stomach-churning and go
:16:35. > :16:41.out and hit the shots better than you thought. And you look at the
:16:41. > :16:45.focus in your face. And the adrenaline. Wow! I could hold the
:16:45. > :16:50.adrenaline for four days. And when you knew it was over, you could
:16:50. > :16:54.physically feel the adrenalin lead you. It was amazing. Tony, you went
:16:54. > :16:59.on to claim the US Open as well, one of the very few to hold both at
:16:59. > :17:04.the same time. Was there one quality above any other which
:17:04. > :17:11.unites your triumphs in these majors? And if there were, what was
:17:11. > :17:14.it? Well, I knew back in the mid- 60s that my swing was not where it
:17:14. > :17:20.needed to be to stand up to the kind of pressure, the major
:17:20. > :17:23.pressure, the adrenaline rush that Nick is talking about. When that is
:17:23. > :17:27.all you, you cannot practise it on the range. But you need a golf
:17:27. > :17:33.swing that operates under that extreme pressure. And when you are
:17:33. > :17:37.under that pressure, I got to know about the importance of your lower
:17:37. > :17:40.body in the golf swing, to maintain tempo and rhythm. And you had to be
:17:40. > :17:46.able to control the speed of the swing to win major championships.
:17:46. > :17:50.Winning the British Open, you know the formula. You know you have done
:17:50. > :17:55.it once. When you have been there once, you know you can do it again.
:17:55. > :18:00.But you have to have a golf swing that will stand up. That is no
:18:00. > :18:06.question. Human traits, everything happens quicker when you are under
:18:06. > :18:10.that kind of pressure. So you have to find a way to slow it down. It
:18:10. > :18:14.is not just breathing, not just thinking slow, you have to
:18:14. > :18:19.physically have a golf swing that operates under that extreme
:18:19. > :18:24.circumstance. Your triumph here came at a course which you love.
:18:24. > :18:29.Your record here was pretty good, third and 4th. But is there one
:18:29. > :18:35.deciding factor about this course which separates it from others? How
:18:35. > :18:38.would you characterise it? It is awkward. It is mixed up. I call it
:18:38. > :18:47.three whole segments. You have the first three, straight down the
:18:47. > :18:50.railway line, then a couple of dog legs down four, 5 and 6. Even round
:18:50. > :18:54.the turn, they have lengthened it quite incredibly. The 10th hole is
:18:54. > :18:59.totally different to what we played, and 11 has changed considerably.
:18:59. > :19:03.Then you have be awkward bit. And then you come back to the famous,
:19:03. > :19:09.traditional left-to-right wind that is not here. That was the belter of
:19:09. > :19:15.this golf course. When you had to come in, in that left-to-right wind,
:19:15. > :19:19.hard left to right at 12, then 14, 15, 17 and 18. That was a brute,
:19:19. > :19:24.but when it is like this, it is freedom to play. It may come in
:19:24. > :19:28.tomorrow. Can I just tell everybody why it is so quirky? If you have
:19:28. > :19:32.not been watching for the first couple of days, you may not realise
:19:32. > :19:36.we are quite some distance from the sea. The sea is about 500 yards
:19:36. > :19:44.that way. You have to get some height to appreciate where we are
:19:44. > :19:47.The fantastic thing about all of the courses in the Open
:19:47. > :19:51.Championship is that they all have their own unique identity. So what
:19:51. > :19:56.about Lytham and St Annes, the golf course and the place? The best
:19:56. > :20:00.place to have a look is from up above. One thing that will do them
:20:00. > :20:05.and sedans is famous for is that you do not see the sea. It is
:20:06. > :20:10.surrounded by buildings. -- Royal Lytham and St Annes. But it has the
:20:10. > :20:15.wind and the weather are coming in. It plays like a links course. Even
:20:15. > :20:19.if with the houses around it does not quite look like it. This corner
:20:19. > :20:27.of the north-west coast is famous for its links courses. You have
:20:27. > :20:32.hillside, Southport, Hoylake on the Wirral. It is great golfing country.
:20:32. > :20:37.Lytham and St Annes maybe once municipal borough but it is two
:20:37. > :20:42.different places. Lytham is a medieval plays and St Ann's is a
:20:42. > :20:49.quintessential Victorian purpose- built resort. Because of the
:20:49. > :20:52.railway, lots of people came to take the sea air and play some golf.
:20:53. > :20:56.Blackpool has always been a bit more lively. The pleasure Beach is
:20:56. > :20:59.always an option if you decide not to watch the golf, but if there's
:20:59. > :21:07.one thing that Blackpool is known for, it is the iconic Blackpool
:21:07. > :21:11.Tower. In 1889, the mayor went over to another exposition and saw the
:21:11. > :21:15.Eiffel Tower and decided he would want one. It was built in such a
:21:15. > :21:21.way that if, perish the thought, it should never fall over, it would
:21:21. > :21:25.fall into the sea, which is nice to know. From a history lesson to the
:21:25. > :21:29.present, and it is all about the course. As you look down, you can
:21:29. > :21:33.see how green it is. The other thing you can see is how many
:21:33. > :21:37.bunkers there are. More than any other cause in the Open
:21:37. > :21:43.Championship rota. 206. If you stay out of them, you may have a chance
:21:43. > :21:45.of winning. The history of the coastline is replaced will for
:21:45. > :21:53.pleasure and relaxation. It won't be that way for everybody, but
:21:53. > :21:57.somebody will have the time of their life here on Sunday.
:21:57. > :22:01.Sunday, right now, is a long way away. This is all about Saturday,
:22:01. > :22:05.Moving Day. Was there a strategy that you employed on a Saturday, or
:22:05. > :22:09.was it mainly dependent on the weather? It was very dependent on
:22:09. > :22:14.the weather, with good old Scottish links golf. But you go out and do
:22:14. > :22:18.this. We call it Moving Day by you always try to do the same thing.
:22:18. > :22:23.One thing I have thought about, especially for the youngsters, the
:22:23. > :22:27.first time they are feeling a Saturday like this. It is not a bad
:22:27. > :22:31.day to frighten yourself and see how you react. Do not shoot
:22:31. > :22:36.yourself in the foot, but just enough to think, wow, how important
:22:36. > :22:41.Saturday years, because it is great preparation for Sunday. Sunday, you
:22:41. > :22:44.turn it up a notch. It is the volume control and all the emotions
:22:44. > :22:50.get turned up on Sunday. Saturday is a good day to feel it and take
:22:50. > :22:53.the confidence from it. Padraig Harrington famously said, a normal
:22:53. > :22:57.Sunday is like double the workload of any other day and a major
:22:57. > :23:02.someday is like triple the workload, emotionally and physically. We will
:23:02. > :23:06.see Padraig Harrington going out with Rory McIlroy shortly. What a
:23:06. > :23:10.good draw for the early crowd. But on this Saturday, with no breeze
:23:10. > :23:15.early, will that make a big difference for the later starters?
:23:15. > :23:19.How would it affect the thinking of those going out early? You never
:23:19. > :23:22.know what the weather will do. It is forecast to blow a bit tomorrow
:23:22. > :23:28.and that could start this afternoon. The leaders to knock it out until
:23:28. > :23:34.later. These guys going out at noon, if they could get 64, 65 under
:23:35. > :23:38.their belt - and it is out there. Then they would give the leaders a
:23:38. > :23:42.jolt tomorrow. But all that you can really do, at the end of the day,
:23:42. > :23:47.and all that I ever did, was try to keep doing the same thing. You
:23:47. > :23:51.cannot get clever on these golf courses. And this game, in itself,
:23:51. > :23:57.will always come and put you back on the nose if you get too cute
:23:57. > :24:02.with it. You are stepping very gently. It is a very fine line and
:24:02. > :24:06.you do not want to move far off it. Personally, I tried to do the same
:24:06. > :24:12.things and go through the same routines, and to learn from
:24:12. > :24:16.probably what happened the previous day, the day before that. And just
:24:16. > :24:22.soldier on. As you rightly said, Padraig Harrington's statement was
:24:22. > :24:27.right. Come Sunday, it is all there on your shoulders. Knowing what to
:24:27. > :24:33.do on that morning to keep your mind relaxed and away from it. You
:24:33. > :24:38.do not want to get here too early. It is a business. It is hard, hard
:24:38. > :24:41.work. Padraig Harrington and Rory McIlroy, a terrific partnership.
:24:41. > :24:47.Are there are occasions when you get into a situation with a friend
:24:47. > :24:50.or someone you -- respect, and you can push one another on? They have
:24:50. > :24:54.got freedom today. Anybody heading out a couple of hours before the
:24:54. > :25:00.leaders, they have freedom. They know that if they can let it hang
:25:00. > :25:07.out and just go and play, and put a score on the board, they know it
:25:07. > :25:10.will make a significant difference to tee time tomorrow. They are told
:25:10. > :25:14.shots back. It looks like it could be too much, but you can never tell
:25:14. > :25:24.when conditions are like this. Things are just getting under way
:25:24. > :25:31.
:25:31. > :25:41.you. Let's enjoy the opening tee of the Open champion. Playing
:25:41. > :25:48.
:25:49. > :25:58.alongside his good friend, Rory conditions greeting the players
:25:59. > :26:13.
:26:13. > :26:23.something to happen. That is a hard course to chase for birdies. You
:26:23. > :26:38.
:26:38. > :26:43.he? He spent a long time on the range yesterday with his coach,
:26:43. > :26:47.trying to work some things out. But you can see the frustration
:26:47. > :26:52.building. It was almost exactly that slightly inside hit that he
:26:52. > :26:56.was trying to get rid of, over drawing it. If you chase the flag,
:26:56. > :27:02.this pin on the first is 14 on and five from the left. It leaves such
:27:02. > :27:06.an awkward little ditch, if you miss on the short side.
:27:06. > :27:10.We are just dipping back to the studio momentarily because Tony
:27:10. > :27:14.Jacklin is about a hand back the commentary baton to Nick Faldo over
:27:14. > :27:18.the weekend. Can I just say, it has been a pleasure to work with you in
:27:18. > :27:25.the commentary box for the last couple of days? I hope you have
:27:25. > :27:29.enjoyed it. Very much. When are you heading back to Florida? I am here
:27:29. > :27:34.for another three weeks. I am hosting the British part three
:27:34. > :27:43.championships and a couple of weeks and I am playing at the seniors.
:27:43. > :27:53.Great stuff! Well past my sell-by Thank you very much. Put your feet
:27:53. > :27:54.
:27:54. > :28:04.Thank you very much. Put your feet up and enjoy the rest of the golf.
:28:04. > :28:18.
:28:18. > :28:22.here at 10:30am. And why would they not be? I would not be surprised to
:28:22. > :28:31.see some sort of a record today with the conditions that we have.
:28:31. > :28:35.Record crowds, or a record low score? Record crowds. 10 under,
:28:35. > :28:40.leading after two rounds, the equal low 36 holes in Open Championship
:28:40. > :28:44.history. They might have got a little bit devious. Yes, I have
:28:44. > :28:50.been out to look at the flags, and some of them look innocuous, like
:28:50. > :28:54.this one. They are not tight to the edges, but cut on little high spots,
:28:55. > :29:04.very awkward to putt to. Are we going to see a little Seve
:29:05. > :29:26.
:29:26. > :29:36.Ballesteros between the bunkers take a course by the scruff of the
:29:36. > :29:37.
:29:37. > :29:47.neck. When I came here first thing this morning at about 8 am, there
:29:47. > :29:58.
:29:58. > :30:08.was not a breath of wind. Just a Yes! The greens are rolling
:30:08. > :30:10.
:30:10. > :30:13.beautifully. You cannot believe how much quicker they are this morning.
:30:14. > :30:23.They have been double cut and rolled. They are now considerably
:30:24. > :30:47.
:30:47. > :30:57.that you have got your touch with a few extra shots on the putting
:30:57. > :31:02.green. The conditions look ideal. Yes, they do. The players had spent
:31:03. > :31:09.some time, the range and they have been doing a lot of work with all
:31:09. > :31:19.Rory McIlroy. This is a real test just to get a nice steady three for
:31:19. > :31:37.
:31:37. > :31:45.booster. Yes, just sliding to be disappointed with how he finished
:31:45. > :31:53.yesterday. He had a very intensive practice session. Every shot must
:31:53. > :32:03.have a purpose. He works with Justin Rose. Every shot has some
:32:03. > :32:19.
:32:19. > :32:26.work. Next, the great Tom Watson. He got one at about this length
:32:26. > :32:36.last night on the final green to make it for the weekend. Much to
:32:36. > :32:57.
:32:57. > :33:03.the excitement of the crowd in the getting primed. They drift up to
:33:03. > :33:12.the second. 481 yards. The NUT is 40 yards longer and it is a
:33:12. > :33:17.demanding shot. You are driving in this area here. It is the most
:33:17. > :33:25.generous area of their way on the golf course. If you can get down to
:33:25. > :33:35.be right, tightly out of bounds. It is more important to do that if you
:33:35. > :33:48.
:33:48. > :33:53.going with a 3-wood. He has been meticulous in his preparation. He
:33:53. > :33:58.enjoyed good form this year. He has been in the next in the last couple

:34:08. > :34:15.
:34:15. > :34:21.fairway, considering the rain we have had this week and this summer.
:34:21. > :34:28.Summer has finally arrived. Had the perfect time for the Open
:34:28. > :34:38.Championship. A great time for the sun to come out. Morning, Peter.
:34:38. > :34:56.
:34:56. > :35:06.sleeve order. How very different it is. Already 11 cases of some streak

:35:17. > :35:27.1958 champion, Peter Thompson. -- Good morning to the 1958 champion,
:35:27. > :35:28.
:35:28. > :35:35.Peter Thompson. Do you think he will be up this early? It is 7:30pm
:35:35. > :35:45.back in Australia. That is a good time to be watching, with a drink
:35:45. > :35:46.
:35:46. > :35:56.in one hand. The first match went off at 8:10am. The last will go at
:35:56. > :36:08.
:36:08. > :36:16.four, cutting a corner. That should be just at the front edge of the
:36:16. > :36:26.green somewhere. These holes calls to a lot of trouble over the past
:36:26. > :36:38.
:36:38. > :36:45.couple of days. -- these holes fascinating day, if the weather
:36:45. > :36:53.conditions state like this. It is not the sort of course way you can
:36:53. > :37:02.do a round of 65, to do two of them, which the players have got to do,
:37:02. > :37:10.this afternoon, that will be difficult. Brandt Snedeker was in a
:37:10. > :37:20.confident mood yesterday. I Tedi what, I have seen some windy
:37:20. > :37:20.
:37:20. > :37:27.conditions here. Graeme McDowell, Matt Kuchar, Paul Lawrie. They have
:37:27. > :37:33.got to do something special for two days. Otherwise, Brandt Snedeker
:37:34. > :37:37.has got to have a miniature collapse. That would probably be a
:37:37. > :37:44.round of 72. That probably sounds ridiculous but that is the way that
:37:44. > :37:54.it is. Anything is possible if you can hit the fairway, hit the green
:37:54. > :37:55.
:37:55. > :38:04.and hold your putts. Anti-Europeans mount a challenge? Time will tell.
:38:05. > :38:11.-- can the Europeans. Today promises to be a splendid day. And
:38:11. > :38:19.promises to be a splendid day. And that includes the weather. And we
:38:19. > :38:25.have been joined by a star of the European Ryder Cup. You have been
:38:25. > :38:31.trampling around, how are your feet? I have got to be honest, the
:38:31. > :38:36.sunshine is welcome. We have had a lot of talk about the bunkers. More
:38:36. > :38:39.than 200. They were filled with water in the last couple of days.
:38:39. > :38:49.Graeme McDowell thought that a couple of them were almost
:38:49. > :38:49.
:38:49. > :38:54.unplayable. What is your feeling about that? I was actually bear
:38:54. > :39:00.with Rory McIlroy at this stage. We have got somewhere to drop at all
:39:00. > :39:07.of the bunkers. He played from the water instead of taking a free drop.
:39:07. > :39:11.He thought that his best chance was to play from the water. It is very
:39:11. > :39:15.unusual for professionals to face that many bunkers with that much
:39:15. > :39:22.water inside. You might get a couple in a tournament with
:39:22. > :39:30.torrential rain. But we have got two each on many of the holes. You
:39:30. > :39:35.try and stay out of them. That happened on the short par-four 16th.
:39:35. > :39:43.When you are driving, you might expect to get up and down. But when
:39:43. > :39:46.it is filled with water and you are taking a drop, no chance at all. My
:39:46. > :39:54.advice would be to send the caddy out and get him walking around and
:39:55. > :40:02.checking which bunkers have still got water. What is your opinion?
:40:02. > :40:09.is fascinating that it is happening today. I cannot remember flooded
:40:09. > :40:14.bunkers even on a Tour events from years ago. In 1987 we played in
:40:14. > :40:21.Belgium on a golf course that was almost underwater. You could place
:40:21. > :40:26.the ball in woodland and flooded conditions if you wanted to. But it
:40:26. > :40:35.is part of the game and how you deal with it. If you have got
:40:35. > :40:41.somewhere to drop... Sometimes it will stick. Sometimes you can half
:40:41. > :40:45.play it. Keegan Bradley had something like that. The easiest
:40:45. > :40:53.thing is to stay out of that and Brandt Snedeker has done that. So
:40:53. > :41:02.you have followed his progress. A from an admiration point of view,
:41:02. > :41:08.how impressive as that round game? It is incredible to not drop a shot.
:41:08. > :41:13.To not hit any bunkers as well. I do not think anybody thought that
:41:13. > :41:19.was possible. But the conditions have been very kind. It is
:41:19. > :41:23.incredible to have not dropped a shot in two rounds. I have not
:41:23. > :41:29.watched much of him because I have been walking the course with
:41:29. > :41:37.several different players. It is not like it has been perfect golf.
:41:37. > :41:42.He has had a bit of luck. Will that continue? We can reduce some of his
:41:42. > :41:52.work in the past couple of days. -- work in the past couple of days. --
:41:52. > :41:53.
:41:53. > :42:01.review. American, Brandt Snedeker. Outright lead. I am trying to hit
:42:01. > :42:09.the greens all day. Look at that. am trying to get the greens as fast
:42:09. > :42:16.as possible. Wonderful. I am hoping to be here at the weekend.
:42:16. > :42:22.Beautiful. It does get better and I am playing as well as possible.
:42:22. > :42:27.again. He is on fire. I'd like to have that kind of pressure on me
:42:27. > :42:28.and I am looking forward to the next couple of days. He made it
:42:28. > :42:35.next couple of days. He made it look easy when most others have
:42:35. > :42:42.struggled. You remember him from the PGA Tour and American
:42:42. > :42:47.television. How impressed have you been in general? He is a simple
:42:47. > :42:53.player with a very good swing. I spoke to him in the season and he
:42:53. > :42:59.had been working on shipping and running. I guess he has used that a
:42:59. > :43:05.few times. He has got the classic American game. He can carry on as
:43:05. > :43:11.normal. The weather conditions have been a key factor and that has
:43:11. > :43:16.opened the door for this style of play. Everybody thought coming to a
:43:16. > :43:24.good old English link, it would be hard and bouncy but we have got
:43:24. > :43:30.this. We have got a softer course and it is open to these players.
:43:30. > :43:37.is very engaging. And every time he gets injured, we hat had
:43:37. > :43:47.significant injuries, he was even on crutches at Christmas, he comes
:43:47. > :43:47.
:43:47. > :43:53.back and wins. He has heard his ribs before. -- injured. But he can
:43:53. > :43:58.come out and win. What is going to happen this week? Everybody is
:43:58. > :44:04.curious to find out how players like Brandt Snedeker will be
:44:04. > :44:11.getting on if the weather changes. Wind is forecast to Morris. What
:44:11. > :44:17.impact will that make? -- tomorrow. I did not think the winning score
:44:17. > :44:24.will get much past where we have got to now. 10-under par could win
:44:24. > :44:31.the Championship. With wind tomorrow, I cannot see anybody
:44:31. > :44:37.making a pass. It is not an easy task. Eight level par probably gets
:44:37. > :44:47.the job done. We can have a reminder of the progress of Adam
:44:47. > :44:50.
:44:50. > :44:58.reminder of the progress of Adam Scott. A beautiful swing. 32-year-
:44:58. > :45:04.old Adam Scott. When he had taken a couple of players championships, we
:45:04. > :45:07.thought he would have taken the open by now. A fantastic and
:45:08. > :45:14.tremendous round. Maybe he can tremendous round. Maybe he can
:45:14. > :45:20.fulfil his dream this week. Fulfil a dream and his potential. That is
:45:20. > :45:24.the question we have been asking. Is he ready for that breakthrough?
:45:24. > :45:31.I would have thought so. The Masters last year, he was right
:45:31. > :45:37.there. I am talking about him climbing the ladder and getting a
:45:37. > :45:46.feel for the whole experience of playing with the best in the Majors.
:45:46. > :45:52.A couple of weeks ago, he was in Washington. When Tiger Woods won,
:45:52. > :45:57.he had a good round last Sunday. But he fell off at the last. It did
:45:57. > :46:04.not quite happened. It's it is something like that that can happen
:46:04. > :46:10.almost away from the cameras. It can either be scary, awe-inspiring.
:46:11. > :46:16.I think he knows where he went wrong. We have marvelled at his
:46:17. > :46:22.game and his golf swing is fantastic. We have talked about him
:46:22. > :46:28.working into the breeze and he does that pewter plate. If it goes away,
:46:28. > :46:38.he can block it a bit. But on paper he is the player that has got all
:46:38. > :46:40.
:46:40. > :46:47.Peter did -- credentials. I have done commentary for a bout eight
:46:47. > :46:54.years. -- about. He is a great player and we want him to give it a
:46:54. > :47:00.bit of effort. And his mentor said that he has got the talent and that
:47:00. > :47:03.he has got to get on with it. He played very well last year and he
:47:03. > :47:09.caused a lot of fireworks with comments afterwards and he said he
:47:09. > :47:17.felt great. He has gone quite again and perhaps this is the moment. We
:47:17. > :47:21.might get the ultimate pairing tomorrow. You have been inside the
:47:21. > :47:30.roads in the past couple of days. What interaction have we had
:47:31. > :47:37.between him and b Caddick? Is it a team situation? Very much so. I
:47:37. > :47:43.actually asked about the Major champion and he called and said
:47:43. > :47:50.congratulations. Some of the shots he did yesterday, more than 300
:47:50. > :47:58.yards and 50 yards past that could chart on the 5th. Not many players
:47:58. > :48:02.out there can do that. -- Matt Kuchar. He has got a very safe
:48:02. > :48:08.strategy on many of the holes, like Tiger Woods and he has got 14 Major
:48:08. > :48:11.titles. They have been playing very conservatively. We have talked
:48:11. > :48:16.about Tiger Woods playing that way and just finding the spot on the
:48:16. > :48:23.fairway at plotting his way around. He has done the perfect mix of that
:48:23. > :48:28.and used power. I call it getting the right intensity. Yet in the
:48:28. > :48:34.engine going. I think Steve Williams has helped him to lift at
:48:34. > :48:37.a little bit and then find the right level. You are comfortable
:48:37. > :48:42.them with how you do things. You cannot push people to do things
:48:42. > :48:47.that they are not happy with. He has encouraged him but kept him
:48:47. > :48:52.relaxed as well. The important thing is to keep that going on
:48:52. > :48:59.Saturday and Sunday and Stainby same. You cannot have a new game
:48:59. > :49:04.plan. And he is at the sharp end at the moment. We mentioned Tiger
:49:04. > :49:11.Woods and he is there once again it. This was like the old Tiger Woods.
:49:11. > :49:18.Both he looked a bit displeased after this bunker. But back to his
:49:18. > :49:24.best? He is the danger man. We can see that he has got real
:49:24. > :49:30.determination. He really wanted that one. He was looking at the
:49:30. > :49:34.leaderboard and wanting to stay in touch. He is out there in a good
:49:34. > :49:43.frame of mind. And we have been talking about the weather
:49:43. > :49:51.conditions. That has really helped Tiger Woods. Sometimes he does not
:49:51. > :49:57.like that hard wind. He has gone into a new strategy. He does not
:49:57. > :50:04.like the driver. That is the weakest club in his back. When he
:50:04. > :50:13.gets an opportunity to throttle back, he will do that. I remember
:50:13. > :50:20.at Royal Liverpool he was with the two-iron all week. He is in his
:50:20. > :50:25.comfort zone and he is avoiding the driver. Sometimes you have got to
:50:25. > :50:32.have the longer game and that will be interesting. I hope they will
:50:32. > :50:39.get that. We have had that through our careers. In the amateur
:50:39. > :50:46.tournaments and the Ryder Cups. I hope they get a taste of the wind.
:50:46. > :50:50.We talk about following Tiger Woods in the United States. You are a
:50:50. > :50:59.contemporary of his. But what do the Americans think about his
:50:59. > :51:04.progress? A very warm welcome to the media centre. Or we have got
:51:04. > :51:08.the great and the good of the world's Press. We have got
:51:08. > :51:15.television screens to tell us exactly what is happening and we
:51:15. > :51:20.will get an American perspective. How are you? A I could not be any
:51:20. > :51:27.better. The third round of the Open is as good as it gets. The man at
:51:27. > :51:35.the top is doing well, Brandt Snedeker. Surprising? Yes, and now.
:51:35. > :51:42.He has not played that well in the past 36 holes. He has not made any
:51:42. > :51:49.bogey and he has not hit any bunker. But he has been hitting the wrath.
:51:49. > :51:56.He has been making it a bit easier. I am not sure if his luck will
:51:56. > :52:00.continue but he is a quality player. Elsewhere, Jason Dufner and Tiger
:52:00. > :52:09.Woods. You have heard of him before and he will be a significant
:52:09. > :52:16.challenger. I predicted that he would win. But I said to listeners
:52:16. > :52:21.if they wanted an outsider, Jason Dufner. I am looking like a genius,
:52:21. > :52:29.but that can change! I fully expected Tiger Woods to win before
:52:29. > :52:34.it started. His mission in round three is to get into the final two.
:52:34. > :52:41.That is what he wants and if he can do that, I am sure that he can take
:52:41. > :52:47.care of business on Sunday. across the pond, how has the opened
:52:47. > :52:54.been received? It has been going great. When Tiger Woods gets in the
:52:54. > :53:01.picture, coverage is energised. We have got a lot of viewers back home
:53:01. > :53:06.wanting to be part of it. This is the 15th title that he is going for.
:53:06. > :53:14.Within three of Jack Nicklaus. He has worked hard to get back his
:53:14. > :53:19.game. His game plan has been impeccable. He has hit the fairway
:53:19. > :53:26.and has been aiming for places on the green. Some people would call
:53:27. > :53:34.it a very conservative approach but it is working for him. A It is
:53:34. > :53:44.always great to speak to you. must work on the death of my boys.
:53:44. > :53:48.
:53:49. > :53:55.must work on the death of my boys. success this morning. That was his
:53:55. > :54:00.4th birdie in a road. 2-under par for the day, Keegan Bradley. He is
:54:00. > :54:05.enjoying himself because he was not enjoying himself because he was not
:54:05. > :54:09.at times yesterday splashing in and out of bunkers. Luke Donald is
:54:09. > :54:15.eight shots back. But a lot of attention on Paul Lawrie and Graeme
:54:15. > :54:22.McDowell. What is the danger is a cannot keep up with the suspected
:54:22. > :54:27.progress of today's leaders? They have got a couple of rounds left
:54:27. > :54:32.and they are six behind. They have got to play great golf. They can
:54:32. > :54:36.easily get in trouble if they do not play well at the start. They
:54:36. > :54:42.have got to get 4-under par in these wonderful conditions to be in
:54:42. > :54:48.touch. I thought Graeme McDowell has really got it with the Major
:54:48. > :54:53.titles. He came close again at the US Open. He fancies these Major
:54:53. > :55:02.championships. The wind has not been blowing. Tomorrow he could
:55:02. > :55:05.come into his own. How impressive have you been? Paul Lawrie have --
:55:05. > :55:13.has been climbing back up the rankings and it has been a
:55:13. > :55:23.remarkable. It has been a bit tongue-in-cheek, the way that he
:55:23. > :55:23.
:55:23. > :55:31.has been viewed by people. I spoke To him in the clubhouse earlier in
:55:31. > :55:37.the season and he is confident. He understands how well he is playing.
:55:37. > :55:42.He has worked with Graeme McDowell and he has been very confident. He
:55:42. > :55:46.has been discussing shots and his confidence is very high and you
:55:46. > :55:52.have got to have that and they have scrambled very well and they are
:55:52. > :55:56.prepared to knuckle down. They had a great start against. Graeme
:55:56. > :56:03.McDowell, it does not matter how pretty the Scott looks on the
:56:03. > :56:07.scorecard. He could not care less how it happens. If he is in the
:56:07. > :56:10.rough but he gets it up and down, you have got to be relentless and
:56:11. > :56:17.keep doing that all day long if that is the way that you make a
:56:17. > :56:24.score. Plenty of scrambling and that is important at Royal Lytham.
:56:24. > :56:30.He is terrific at that from 100 yards in a month, Luke Donald. So
:56:30. > :56:38.it fizzled out a little bit. But from eight shots back, what are the
:56:38. > :56:42.possibilities for him? He could get a round of 66 and get 6-under par
:56:42. > :56:47.with bad weather conditions tomorrow. But he has got to get it
:56:48. > :56:54.done today. I cannot see anybody coming from 10 shots back like Paul
:56:54. > :57:02.Lawrie at Carnoustie will stop we are --. We are not talking carnage
:57:02. > :57:08.yet! We have been talking to the people that have worked with the
:57:08. > :57:13.leaders and they do not think that they will fall by the wayside.
:57:13. > :57:18.before the storm perhaps. Many possibilities lie ahead today. It
:57:18. > :57:28.is a gentle spot behind the 18th with the Dorney house and the old
:57:28. > :57:31.
:57:31. > :57:39.We can have a little wander into the clubhouse at Royal Lytham. This
:57:39. > :57:45.is the storage area. These people are the guardians of the equipment.
:57:45. > :57:50.I cannot take anything or they will get me in a big head lock! We have
:57:50. > :57:58.got about 1 million worth of equipment and it must be very well
:57:58. > :58:04.protected. This is Mark Calcavecchia's. A we can see that
:58:04. > :58:11.golf is all about innovation and technology. But we have still got
:58:11. > :58:21.the old wages, take on the back. About 30 years old. This belongs to
:58:21. > :58:22.
:58:22. > :58:28.Graeme McDowell. He is carrying three sand wedges this week. That
:58:28. > :58:35.is the bouncing angle that he has got written on the back. In the
:58:35. > :58:42.corner, Steve Stricker. One of the best putters in the world. I wonder
:58:42. > :58:48.how many shots have been made of that in the past few years?
:58:48. > :58:54.Everybody has got a special piece of equipment this week with the
:58:54. > :58:58.course, Royal Lytham, written on the bottom. They will be
:58:58. > :59:04.disappearing to a different venue next week. This is the man that
:59:04. > :59:10.everybody has been talking about, be a leader, Brandt Snedeker. This
:59:10. > :59:18.is the business so far. The only driver used this week. It has not
:59:18. > :59:28.yet hit a single bunker. But what about this weekend? And that is why
:59:28. > :59:33.you never left your clubs in a locker room! Somebody went into my
:59:33. > :59:43.bag and was messing about with my putter. I would have said to him if
:59:43. > :59:44.
:59:45. > :59:50.I had seen him, get out of that! think that he will live to fight
:59:50. > :59:56.another day. Thank you very much. It has been fascinating to pick
:59:56. > :00:02.your brains. We are heading to commentary. David, you were out
:00:02. > :00:12.with Tiger Woods today. Have a great date. We can Hands you to
:00:12. > :00:24.
:00:24. > :00:34.Fascinating conversations there from the three players. Harrington
:00:34. > :00:41.
:00:41. > :00:45.little bit. Everybody talks about it being a perfect day, but the
:00:45. > :00:49.wind has got up in the last couple of hours. Yesterday, when the sky
:00:49. > :00:59.was grey, there was a little bit of wind. Not as much as today. And
:00:59. > :01:03.
:01:03. > :01:08.that played to them. So I wonder back somebody could come from to
:01:08. > :01:12.win this. In 2001, David Duval was seven shots behind Montgomerie at
:01:12. > :01:17.the halfway stage. So it is possible, but I suppose it depends
:01:17. > :01:21.a lot on the conditions. It is very much possible if you hit the greens
:01:21. > :01:26.and make the putts. But the course is set up in such a way that
:01:26. > :01:32.anything under par, 70, is a very good score, and you have to do it
:01:32. > :01:35.twice. You need a remarkable two rounds, to get a couple of 66s. I
:01:35. > :01:45.have a feeling you have to do that if you're going to come up from
:01:45. > :01:50.
:01:50. > :01:54.all smiles in the montage, but here he is on this hole, which comes
:01:54. > :01:58.back towards the clubhouse. You play the first three alongside the
:01:58. > :02:08.railway. And a sizable number of the early morning gallery are with
:02:08. > :02:09.
:02:09. > :02:16.this match. McIlroy and Harrington playing together. Just a couple of
:02:16. > :02:26.bunkers to avoid, as ever. 257 to a bunker down the left, and there is
:02:26. > :02:26.
:02:26. > :03:23.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 56 seconds
:03:23. > :03:33.one at 296 on the right. That is yesterday, after a battling 67 in
:03:33. > :03:53.
:03:53. > :04:01.he was yesterday, until he was struck down with an eight at the
:04:01. > :04:07.7th. Four shots gone in one. Lovely to see the crowds in shirtsleeves
:04:07. > :04:17.today. Shirt sleeve order, we used to say. After all the doom and
:04:17. > :04:18.
:04:18. > :04:27.gloom of the first two days. Gonzalez Fernandez-Castano. This is
:04:27. > :04:37.his putting grip these days. It has helped him. One of the best ball
:04:37. > :04:40.
:04:40. > :04:45.strikers from tee to green, near excitement will unfold in a few
:04:45. > :04:50.hours. Ken has been having a look. On the 18th green, the pin today is
:04:50. > :04:54.in the back right-hand portion, in a gathering area, not too bad. Just
:04:54. > :04:57.to the right, one of these bunkers. If you go in there, it is an
:04:57. > :05:03.awkward bunker shot because the slope is running away from you.
:05:03. > :05:06.Quite some time before the leaders tee off. Snedeker at 1:30pm. One
:05:06. > :05:09.thing that all of the players will do when they come off the first,
:05:09. > :05:15.they will pick up a pin position Sheikh. When you look at it, it
:05:15. > :05:23.looks innocuous, but he's -- each one is in a devious spot. On 18, 35
:05:23. > :05:28.on, five from the right hand side. Not a bad spot. If you get a bit of
:05:28. > :05:32.a flyer, the out of bounds is not far away. Sorry, the club house is
:05:32. > :05:41.not too far behind and could leave an awkward shot. So the pin sheet
:05:42. > :05:51.is absolutely vital. Gary Player up against the club house in 1974 had
:05:52. > :06:00.
:06:00. > :06:04.to play left-handed on his way to 4th, in a bit of trouble. He may be
:06:04. > :06:09.in trouble, but he has actually found a pretty decent lie and he
:06:09. > :06:13.has a superb view of the green. So I think he has caught a bit of a
:06:13. > :06:18.lucky break. He can get the club on the back of the ball. There will be
:06:18. > :06:24.a whisper of grass obscuring his vision of the ball. He has quite a
:06:24. > :06:27.distance to go. The pin is tucked on the left-hand side. Quite a
:06:27. > :06:34.steep slope up to the green, but he will be hoping to pitch this right
:06:34. > :06:41.hand corner. Am expecting this to release up the green a little bit
:06:41. > :06:47.from the sort of lie that he has got. They have don the maths. --
:06:47. > :06:52.they have done the maths. He is just moving the marshal a side. It
:06:52. > :07:02.is a seven iron. He obviously has a good lie. Nick Faldo has joined us
:07:02. > :07:10.
:07:10. > :07:20.in the commentary box. Thank you, trundle up the front edge. There
:07:20. > :07:49.
:07:49. > :07:54.It augurs well for a bit of breeze the green from there. It sounded
:07:54. > :08:04.like he was requesting it to come down. It has just hung on to the
:08:04. > :08:07.
:08:07. > :08:12.weather, the course is magnificently prepared. I had a
:08:12. > :08:16.Tour this morning. The bunkers are clean and sharp. It looks
:08:16. > :08:22.magnificent out there, apart from putting the score on your score
:08:22. > :08:27.card! The problem was where the spectators were, with the heavy
:08:27. > :08:32.rain a couple of nights ago. It is the bunkers to the left of the 17th
:08:32. > :08:36.that are still holding a little bit of water. It has been a problem.
:08:36. > :08:44.Yesterday, we saw a couple of people having to take drops. So
:08:44. > :08:49.unfortunate. I just wonder whether, they have been looking at so many
:08:49. > :08:52.rules, adjusting them for the fairness of the game. That is one
:08:52. > :08:56.of them that you question whether you could place it in the bunker,
:08:56. > :09:01.if you could find your spot, because everybody knows you are at
:09:01. > :09:07.a serious disadvantage having to drop the ball and it is guaranteed
:09:07. > :09:14.to plug. That is where Keegan Bradley was yesterday. It has dried
:09:15. > :09:18.up a bit, but he played out of the water yesterday. Again, bearing in
:09:18. > :09:24.mind the amount of water we have had not just in the last week, but
:09:24. > :09:34.over the last 20 years or so, it feels like. It has been a hard
:09:34. > :09:39.
:09:39. > :09:45.spring. That is why we have long Westwood. Playing alongside Tom
:09:46. > :09:54.Watson today. He would have expected to be a lot later in the
:09:54. > :10:01.day going into the weekend. Was it Watson's putt last night on 18 that
:10:01. > :10:09.got the plus threes in? I believe it was just about that. It was
:10:09. > :10:13.certainly special for a lot of the three over players. It was great to
:10:13. > :10:18.see what son doing that, after missing a short one at 17 as well.
:10:18. > :10:24.It is brilliant at 62, how he comes to the majors, Watson, and makes
:10:24. > :10:34.the cut. That is impressive in itself. It is more than impressive.
:10:34. > :10:40.
:10:40. > :10:45.That was a double bogey. He had an injury to his right hand. He has
:10:45. > :10:55.not got much strength, which makes it all the more incredible. Rory is
:10:55. > :11:05.just off the green. I would always get someone to tend the flag, just
:11:05. > :11:05.
:11:05. > :11:55.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 56 seconds
:11:55. > :12:01.yesterday after his round. Send us two would be playing together at
:12:01. > :12:11.the weekend but a little further up the leaderboard. That is how to
:12:11. > :12:20.
:12:20. > :12:30.warm up your rotator cuff. Spot the off. That is one way of burning
:12:30. > :13:05.
:13:05. > :13:10.The first dropped shot of the day. He slips back to three over. The US
:13:10. > :13:14.PGA might be more of a links in terms of wind than this. Yes, very
:13:14. > :13:18.similar in the fact that it has a famous prevailing wind left to
:13:19. > :13:22.right. You start the first couple of holes, the first three, in to
:13:22. > :13:26.left to right and turn it a right angle on the 4th and play the hard
:13:26. > :13:34.left to right. By that time you have meandered away, you work your
:13:34. > :13:38.way back and turn back into the wind for the last six holes. I
:13:38. > :13:45.thought that would be very similar to here. But we have not had the
:13:45. > :13:55.true prevailing wind picking up this week. Harrington, a couple of
:13:55. > :14:16.
:14:16. > :14:20.shots better than McIlroy at the are first off, on your own, go on
:14:20. > :14:23.your own because you can just get on with it. But if you are in the
:14:23. > :14:29.middle of the field and you lose your playing partner for whatever
:14:29. > :14:34.reason, take a marker with you, just to slow you down and fitted
:14:34. > :14:41.with the pace of play for the day. Many the assistant pro has been
:14:41. > :14:46.hauled out a to be told they are playing in the Open. That is a
:14:46. > :14:56.nerve-racking moment. No real preparation for that. Lee Westwood
:14:56. > :15:02.
:15:02. > :15:12.at 16. Ouch! Maybe a wedge in your hand off a links turf. That is
:15:12. > :15:18.
:15:18. > :15:25.tough to do. The fifth is playing right. The green falls off left and
:15:25. > :15:35.right. Very close to the bunkers on the right hand side. Quite a wide
:15:35. > :15:36.
:15:36. > :15:46.green. But it is a teasing flag position. Six iron for Padraig.
:15:46. > :15:54.
:15:55. > :16:04.breeze. Fortunate just to miss the long stuff. It looks like Rory has
:16:05. > :16:26.
:16:26. > :16:34.his range of motion. It looks like that is left. He did not judge that
:16:34. > :16:38.one well. It is a swing that many would like to copy but it is not
:16:38. > :16:43.physically possible for most people. If you get the numbers on his hip
:16:43. > :16:49.action, he basically moves his hips twice as fast as anybody and twice
:16:49. > :16:54.as far. This is one of the areas, when it is on song, it is
:16:55. > :16:59.incredible. Early in the season, he was hitting three woods 350 yards,
:16:59. > :17:05.and more. But when it gets out of timing, his right knee moves too
:17:05. > :17:09.early, and all have that extra motion is very difficult to get
:17:09. > :17:15.consistency in two. I think that is really what has been happening for
:17:15. > :17:19.most of this season with Rory. After his win in Florida in the
:17:19. > :17:22.early season, we thought he was off and running. I am sure he is
:17:22. > :17:28.puzzled as well that he cannot quite get his finger on it, cannot
:17:28. > :17:38.get the timing right. Westwood on the back of the 16th, one under for
:17:38. > :17:38.
:17:38. > :17:48.his round for today. Classic! He shut the club face, coming out of
:17:48. > :18:08.
:18:09. > :18:12.picks you up a little when you roll in one of those early on. Playing
:18:12. > :18:22.alongside a bright American prospect, Harris English, two over
:18:22. > :18:28.
:18:28. > :18:38.for the Championship who has game which has been well
:18:38. > :19:01.
:19:02. > :19:10.face. Exactly. With a wedge in your hand, misjudged that. McIlroy,
:19:10. > :19:20.short of the fifth, after a misjudgement off the tee. He made
:19:20. > :19:30.
:19:30. > :19:36.that bite. He was not looking for has a little bit of green to play
:19:36. > :19:42.with. Coming off the shoulder of the bunker though. Padraig loves
:19:42. > :19:49.these. Anything where he has to conjure up something different from
:19:49. > :19:59.the norm. He has done it the old- fashioned way. He practices four
:19:59. > :20:13.
:20:13. > :20:18.hours and hours on chipping greens He probably fancied it. How far
:20:18. > :20:28.past was it going. You pretend you're disappointed, but secretly,
:20:28. > :20:39.
:20:39. > :20:47.you were doing a little jig. In for last PGA Championship, his third
:20:47. > :20:52.major win. When we talk about the last 15 majors having been won by
:20:53. > :20:57.different players, that goes back to his PGA win in 2008. A lot of
:20:57. > :21:04.things changing since then for him. Tried to change his swing and ended
:21:04. > :21:08.his association. He seems to be coming back. He looks good. The
:21:08. > :21:16.quality of his shot-making is right there. His short game is good. The
:21:16. > :21:26.only occasional, he just loses his temper with the putter. -- his
:21:26. > :21:34.
:21:34. > :21:40.off a really straightforward shot down the par three. The last thing
:21:40. > :21:44.he was thinking of was coming up short and making a four. I was
:21:44. > :21:53.amazed I did not realise that now they move to the 6th, a par four.
:21:53. > :22:03.It was always a par five back in my day. That is a pretty daunting hole.
:22:03. > :22:13.
:22:13. > :22:23.It is almost like he has a high jumper, who rocks backwards and
:22:23. > :22:23.
:22:23. > :22:31.forwards, deciding when to start the run up. It is a long walk down
:22:31. > :22:41.to the 6th tee. Harrington and McIlroy. It is a bit of a horror,
:22:41. > :22:48.the 6th. Although Tiger Woods yesterday hit two-iron, seven-iron.
:22:48. > :22:52.That is what happens on the links. If you can hit the right shape, a
:22:52. > :22:56.good caddie can plot weather down slopes are on the fair ways. If you
:22:56. > :23:04.need to throttle back, grab a two- iron, landed on the downslope, it
:23:04. > :23:07.goes just about as far as a driver would go. This is a great view. If
:23:07. > :23:17.you can turn a little draw round the corner, plenty of rough down
:23:17. > :23:19.
:23:19. > :23:23.the left side. Lots of bunkers. The front left bunker looks pretty
:23:23. > :23:33.daunting. It really pops up a good couple of feet above the green
:23:33. > :23:34.
:23:34. > :23:37.surface. So that is a tough flag to work. Two draws. Draw one off the
:23:37. > :23:41.tee, and your second shot from the middle of the green towards the
:23:42. > :23:51.flag. Just a club to make sure he stays short of the couple of
:23:52. > :24:19.
:24:19. > :24:25.tight second shot. The big decision on whether you can carry it across
:24:25. > :24:28.those two left and bunkers, the left-hand side of the green. Rory
:24:28. > :24:38.is going to give him something special and turn one right round
:24:38. > :25:09.
:25:09. > :25:17.There was a caddie at 290, and they were applauding back on the tee.
:25:17. > :25:27.That is not always a true indicator. Is that it? Down on the right hand
:25:27. > :25:31.
:25:31. > :25:37.wonderful 17th. I went down and looked at the tee position. It is
:25:37. > :25:43.almost down in the hospitality area. It is so deep. And then it is so
:25:43. > :25:47.flat, this hole. They have actually lowered the bunkers. My main
:25:47. > :25:57.comment on this, it is so difficult to get depth perception on the 17th.
:25:57. > :26:00.
:26:00. > :26:06.The green sits in the middle of the golf course. It cuts out the vision
:26:06. > :26:16.completely. So Tom Watson is going to pick a chimney someone on the
:26:16. > :26:38.
:26:38. > :26:45.horizon. -- somewhere on the hit it true and found the right
:26:45. > :26:49.line. He just about had. A bit of a struggle today. Mine over for the
:26:49. > :26:53.Championship and as it stands he is heading for an early tee off with
:26:53. > :27:03.John Daly. -- nine over for the Championship. He might want to make
:27:03. > :27:11.a couple of birdies. The trousers might look very similar to those.
:27:11. > :27:18.Probably joined together. Diamonds on diamonds. I think they should
