:00:35. > :00:41.In a rugged, windswept corner of South Ayrshire, that is where it all

:00:42. > :00:46.began. It was in Prestwick that old Tom Morris struck the very first

:00:47. > :00:53.shot. Eight golfers played three rounds to decide the land's greatest

:00:54. > :01:00.player. The numbers may have grown, but the aim is the same, this is the

:01:01. > :01:20.one, 156 years ago, this is where the Open was born. Welcome home.

:01:21. > :01:28.Good evening. Yes, it sure, the home of the Open championship is once

:01:29. > :01:31.again a place for old heads, experience and golfing gal, just as

:01:32. > :01:36.it was in the days of old Tom Morris. Phil Mickelson certainly has

:01:37. > :01:40.plenty of those qualities. At the age of 46, he could join that 19th

:01:41. > :01:45.century golfing pioneer is the oldest winner of the Open

:01:46. > :01:50.championship. The last 24 hours here Royal Troon have been wet and wild,

:01:51. > :02:00.and in a sport where you'd is trending, the opposite is true in

:02:01. > :02:02.this major championship. Old guys rule, well, they did yesterday.

:02:03. > :02:15.Garcia, running well, running very well. Andrew Johnston, Beef, what a

:02:16. > :02:27.gem. Charl Schwartzel, that could be one of the shots of the week. Bill

:02:28. > :02:31.Haas, nice finish, nice round. Tony Finau, that is a pretty nice

:02:32. > :02:39.position to be in, 4-under par in the clubhouse. Zach Johnson, that is

:02:40. > :02:45.the way to birdie the second. That is another one for Bradley. He moves

:02:46. > :02:56.to 7-under par. That is a little bonus. 7-under par. Brilliant from

:02:57. > :03:00.Stenson. To shoot 6-under par in these conditions, it is pretty

:03:01. > :03:04.sweet. Yes, I am just moving along. It is all about getting in

:03:05. > :03:09.contention, being in position on Sunday and this is a good stead.

:03:10. > :03:13.Another good round for Mickelson, a couple under today. I am hopeful

:03:14. > :03:19.that is an opportunity on Sunday to bring home the Claret Jug. That

:03:20. > :03:26.would be incredible, but I know it is a long process, there is lots of

:03:27. > :03:33.golf left. By the halfway point, Mickelson, the Muirfield champion,

:03:34. > :03:36.had followed up his 63 on Thursday with a hard-fought 69. His three

:03:37. > :03:43.shot lead at around one was slashed to just one thanks to a brilliant 65

:03:44. > :03:48.from Sweden's Henrik Stenson. Two other over 40s in the chasing pack

:03:49. > :03:53.by the holder, Zach Johnson, and Soren Kjeldsen. Five men, including

:03:54. > :03:58.England's Andrew Johnston, start their Saturday from six shots

:03:59. > :04:03.behind. Rory McIlroy is eight shots back. Another moving day in an Open

:04:04. > :04:07.Championship. Which direction that movement will be remains to be seen.

:04:08. > :04:12.The wind is whipping in off the Firth of Clyde is such an extent

:04:13. > :04:18.that the organisers have made some changes to the course. Ken Brown can

:04:19. > :04:23.explain. Certainly a breeze about this morning and some hot news from

:04:24. > :04:28.the Royal and Ancient. Rules advisory note, the forecast is for

:04:29. > :04:33.high winds. The greens have not been cut. Very unusual. We have not cut

:04:34. > :04:39.the greens in case it gets too windy and the Paul Sturrock to blog about.

:04:40. > :04:43.Let's look at this one. We are on the 13th hole. You can feel there is

:04:44. > :04:49.a little bit more grass on. It is fluffy. It will help the balls to

:04:50. > :04:55.not be around. The forecast for the breezes 25-30 mph. It will be

:04:56. > :05:00.difficult if it is as strong as that. It is another day for hats

:05:01. > :05:05.with clips in them to keep them down. Ken has opted for the natural

:05:06. > :05:09.look. It should stay largely dry until later at the tail end of the

:05:10. > :05:13.afternoon. No worries from his perspective but that may be a factor

:05:14. > :05:15.in the rounds of the men at the head of this championship. A quick look

:05:16. > :05:27.at some of the later paintings. That is appealing for the crowd to

:05:28. > :05:32.get its teeth into. Bill Haas, board -- voted the PGA Tour's most

:05:33. > :05:40.underrated player starts at 2:50 p.m.. Zach Johnson outlasted

:05:41. > :05:42.everyone in last year's marathon open at St Andrews. He will be

:05:43. > :06:02.playing with Tony Finau. Phil leads a major at halfway for

:06:03. > :06:07.the sixth time. He has only once gone on to win from that position.

:06:08. > :06:10.It will be a long wait for them. Up ahead, the early starters were

:06:11. > :06:15.trying to make an impression on the leaderboard. World number one Jason

:06:16. > :06:21.Day set off on a mission from 1-over par. He moved to 1-under par and

:06:22. > :06:26.unleashed a 375 yard Drive at the seventh hole and created this chance

:06:27. > :06:34.for birdie, birdie number three of the morning. At the ninth hole,

:06:35. > :06:41.Jason Day setting up this putt for a fourth birdie of the day. He is

:06:42. > :06:46.making progress. The Australian was 94th in the field after round one,

:06:47. > :06:51.and surging into a tie for 11th place, moving 3-under par. But the

:06:52. > :06:55.US PGA champion has not made a birdie on the N word nine yet this

:06:56. > :07:03.week. He turned for home with an immediate bogey. Missing from 4.5

:07:04. > :07:15.feet. Back to 2-under par. This is the situation. The leaders are

:07:16. > :07:19.waiting their turn. Behind them, the players hoping to make their moves

:07:20. > :07:24.today. Amongst them, Jason Day in the group at 3-under par. Rickie

:07:25. > :07:27.Fowler has made some progress with a birdie at the second. He is 1-under

:07:28. > :07:37.par for his round. Let's join commentary.

:07:38. > :07:41.Thank you. Looking down from high on Troon, Royal Troon, and on the

:07:42. > :07:47.right-hand side, skirting along the beach, it is the opening hole, and

:07:48. > :07:50.on it, Rory McIlroy. With the starting time at 1:40 p.m.. This is

:07:51. > :08:11.his tee shot. I do not think anybody saw that. It

:08:12. > :08:22.could be in a spot of bother. It did not lie. -- bounce. It is straight

:08:23. > :08:29.into the rough. A difficult second shot for Rory McIlroy. Jason Day,

:08:30. > :08:36.relief from the hospitality. Pitching up, this is not easy to get

:08:37. > :08:39.it close. McIlroy took a gamble with the driver from the tee. He has come

:08:40. > :09:13.off second best. Jason Day, struggling at the 12th

:09:14. > :09:16.hole. Only one dropped shot at the end of the day. A sparkling outward

:09:17. > :09:36.nine. Trembling at the moment. McIlroy for his par at the opening

:09:37. > :09:52.hole. You cannot be giving away shots. These are the easiest poles

:09:53. > :10:06.on the course. -- the easiest holes. That is five, and back 2-under par.

:10:07. > :10:10.-- back to 1-under par. Rickie Fowler for a birdie at the fourth

:10:11. > :10:18.hole. Well done, up and down from the sand. 3-under par. From the

:10:19. > :10:28.United States, he pulled his tee shots. Not a bad lie. He gives it a

:10:29. > :10:37.fond, and flies it into the wind. It is a good shot. How he stopped it, I

:10:38. > :10:51.do not know. Steve Stricker, the United States threatened. This is

:10:52. > :11:01.for birdie at nine. Nothing changes. It in 34, 2-under par. After that

:11:02. > :11:04.splendid second, Jim Herman tucks it in for a three on his opening hole.

:11:05. > :11:22.3-under partygoers. -- under-par he goes. JB Holmes for

:11:23. > :11:27.his three on the first. He goes to 3-under par, playing alongside Jim

:11:28. > :11:31.Herman, both getting birdies at the opening hole. The Americans

:11:32. > :11:46.together. McIlroy to finish things out at the third. A big drive. My

:11:47. > :11:53.goodness. He bogeys the first, past the second, and bogeys on the third

:11:54. > :12:05.from absolutely nowhere. -- pars the second. JB Holmes, his second to the

:12:06. > :12:12.second. He will send it along way. A good touch. A beautiful shot from JB

:12:13. > :12:16.Holmes, the man from Kentucky. McIlroy in a bit of a downslope at

:12:17. > :12:23.the fourth hole. He flips it out nicely. He will have that for his

:12:24. > :12:29.birdie. He was a little unlucky were the ball finished in the bunker. JB

:12:30. > :12:35.Holmes with the simplest of happens. He has a great record at the Open.

:12:36. > :12:41.Five times he has played and missed the cut. 4-under par for the

:12:42. > :12:49.championship. -- he does not have a great record at the Open.

:12:50. > :12:56.They are wishing this one in. A birdie at the fourth hole. He has

:12:57. > :13:03.got it, a bit of cheer after a slow start.

:13:04. > :13:18.There is his card, two bogeys and a birdie, 1-under par. Wrapped up

:13:19. > :13:24.fairly warm. Henrik Stenson, from Sweden is wearing a woolly hat,

:13:25. > :13:29.three layers, water approves. He is feeling the worst. He still has the

:13:30. > :13:41.sunglasses, just in case, just in case. -- waterproofs. He is being

:13:42. > :13:53.tested by the sand again, Rory McIlroy. It is a good iron. -- lie.

:13:54. > :13:55.He will chase it up there. On the tee, Andrew Johnston.

:13:56. > :14:16.APPLAUSE He gave that sum. He really does

:14:17. > :14:22.hammer it out there. The flight on that, the left edge of the fairway.

:14:23. > :14:30.Go on, the Beef. Nearly when the green. A pitch and putt Canty will

:14:31. > :14:31.have his birdie. This would be a real boost for Rory McIlroy's ground

:14:32. > :14:45.today. This is for par. He doesn't seem to have great

:14:46. > :14:52.adapted to the pace of the greens this morning. Tune looking north up

:14:53. > :14:56.the sure coast, it is beginning to move. JB Holmes making his presence

:14:57. > :15:05.felt on the leaderboard after back-to-back birdies at the 1st and

:15:06. > :15:12.second, there are five men under par today. I wonder what the

:15:13. > :15:17.possibilities will be as we go forward to the third day at The

:15:18. > :15:22.Open. COMMENTATOR: Rory McIlroy has been driver all the way so far, here

:15:23. > :15:30.we are at the 6th, down the right-hand side. He likes it. This

:15:31. > :15:39.could go forever. Hits the downslope, go on. One of those

:15:40. > :15:51.little hollows. OK. The green is well in range.

:15:52. > :15:59.It was driver off the tee for Andrew Johnston. Just short of the front

:16:00. > :16:06.left greenside bunker, pitch up to here. This for an opening three.

:16:07. > :16:30.Rory McIlroy a little bit disappointed, but his second was

:16:31. > :16:35.better than this but still a little shy, still, and legal putt. -- and

:16:36. > :17:01.legal putt. Kevin Na. Deliberate player. Very

:17:02. > :17:08.nice. Birdie on the second Kevin Na, moves to four under. Driver again

:17:09. > :17:14.for Rory McIlroy on the seventh, this is downwind. That is straight

:17:15. > :17:24.as an arrow as well. Just a little bit to the right. Here we go. That's

:17:25. > :17:35.just about there, in the gully just short of the green. 390 yard hole,

:17:36. > :17:40.395 yards. That's a good one, could be a very good one, an outstanding

:17:41. > :17:50.one, it just seemed to turn the other way at the cup. Good drive,

:17:51. > :17:58.certain birdie now. JB Holmes. Short backswing. Another one. Three

:17:59. > :18:07.birdies on the card and he's only played five holes.

:18:08. > :18:12.Seventh green, Rory very nearly drove the putting surface, pitched

:18:13. > :18:24.to hear, this poor birdie, little bit of movement from the left. Not

:18:25. > :18:34.sure that's finished yet. Not a great start. Very up and down, some

:18:35. > :18:42.brilliant driving. One of your favourites, Patrick Reed. Yes, this

:18:43. > :18:51.to go to four under. Just nudges it in.

:18:52. > :18:57.Ryan Moore. From the United States, this would be far away, he is a good

:18:58. > :19:20.chap. What did I tell you? It's a double hat day, Peter. Big

:19:21. > :19:43.crowd around the screen, Rory has this. -- this green. Oh!

:19:44. > :19:53.Some Rory supporters getting a bit vocal. They have been on the jungle

:19:54. > :20:01.juice. Henrik Stenson going to the first, just checking where we are,

:20:02. > :20:12.the East Coast or the West Coast? He is checking the pins out. Just

:20:13. > :20:17.seeing where they are. Got the wrong book. Patrick Reed. For birdie. This

:20:18. > :20:37.to go to 5-under. He's got it. Four birdies in a row. On the tee,

:20:38. > :20:47.from Sweden, Henrik Stenson! APPLAUSE

:20:48. > :21:16.The body action tells us that is up the right-hand. No great chase.

:21:17. > :21:28.Died. OK. On the tee, from the USA, Phil Mickleson! APPLAUSE

:21:29. > :21:51.Different tactic for Phil Mickleson. He has been on sparkling form.

:21:52. > :22:12.Patrick Reed at the 8th. 100 yards, that is all it is, he has pulled it.

:22:13. > :22:20.That could be horrid. Oh dear. That is one of the prose in new yacht

:22:21. > :22:21.they just had made in hamburger! -- one of the professionals New York's

:22:22. > :22:36.they just had made in pretty frugal in dropping strokes

:22:37. > :22:57.this week. Zach Johnson. We have seen a lot of putts holed

:22:58. > :23:01.this week in conditions which have not been favourable but my word they

:23:02. > :23:07.have got a lot from long range. STUDIO: Henrik Stenson underway and

:23:08. > :23:09.earlier today, his compatriot Yester part of it who was runner-up year 19

:23:10. > :23:29.years ago said this on Twitter. COMMENTATOR: Just wondering where to

:23:30. > :23:34.land this one. We have not seen anyone put one in within a foot or

:23:35. > :23:40.two of the hole so far. A little hollow and a few bumps round and

:23:41. > :23:46.about. It looks so simple, can see the shoulder coming off the right

:23:47. > :23:55.right-hand bunker. Just have to be right. Took the spin, looked as if

:23:56. > :24:03.it was Greg Rutherford Ptit Zig nicely, but it did not. -- looked as

:24:04. > :24:09.if it was going to run in nicely. But it did not. It's gone. Trickles

:24:10. > :24:22.down the bank. Done pretty well. Phil Mickleson for an opening birdie

:24:23. > :24:44.three at the 1st hole. He switches between the conventional

:24:45. > :24:51.grip and the King's Cross special, right-hand side ways on the shaft. I

:24:52. > :24:58.don't think these slower greens will suit him. He likes them fast.

:24:59. > :25:01.Patrick Reed after a run of four birdies has this for par at the 8th.

:25:02. > :25:19.Run it, run it, run it, oh. No one has really managed to read

:25:20. > :25:22.this one, it's a double breaker. If he pops it in he will be tied at the

:25:23. > :25:43.top on 10-under with Phil Mickleson. Yes, yes, yes, what a lovely start.

:25:44. > :25:47.Beautifully struck. The wind is getting up. It's been up all day.

:25:48. > :25:54.Ken has been out braving the weather, tell us about it.

:25:55. > :26:01.I do like to be beside the seaside and Troon is beside the seaside, as

:26:02. > :26:06.you would expect there is a bit of wind about. Let's look at the plant.

:26:07. > :26:19.The Kop house is back there in the distance, the opening Nice -- nine

:26:20. > :26:22.holes, clubhouse, the first - sixth all run in the same direction and

:26:23. > :26:31.the wind is generally blowing out of the West. These opening six or play

:26:32. > :26:37.down breeze, the play relatively easily. There is a loop at the end

:26:38. > :26:43.here where you go 7-9 then ten, 11, 12 goes the other way, and 13-18

:26:44. > :26:47.they are going directly into the breeze so the closing are really

:26:48. > :26:53.tough. You have to make your score on the front nine and hold on on the

:26:54. > :26:58.back nine. This is a fantastic place, these opening holes are

:26:59. > :27:06.critical. That back nine, by jingle it is so tricky if the wind is in

:27:07. > :27:10.the prevailing direction. 37 from the left, the pin was moved this

:27:11. > :27:13.morning from a much more awkward spot due to the wind. Mickelson

:27:14. > :27:49.forced to play. -- first to play. Sergio Garcia for par at the 4th.

:27:50. > :27:56.Big swing, turn it, just too high and too hard. Danger lurking on

:27:57. > :28:04.every hole when the conditions are like this. Soren Kjeldsen.

:28:05. > :28:32.After a humongous way long drive an eagle chance, 394 yards, this hole.

:28:33. > :28:40.Hardly human. Hit it, got it so far in one and then, oh. They don't

:28:41. > :28:41.learn, these boys. That's magnificent hit. He is a big

:28:42. > :28:50.thumper. Playing nicely today. Mickelson for three, Vista go to

:28:51. > :29:01.11-under. -- Vista go to 11-under. He has used this putting style since

:29:02. > :29:44.he was a youngster. Stenson at the third, 379 yards. He

:29:45. > :29:52.will really club this. If that is on line, it will not be far-away,

:29:53. > :30:06.surely. Here she comes, it is still running. It is in the bunker. Akpala

:30:07. > :30:15.lie, know I do not, yes I do. -- I tell a lie, no I do not. Bill Haas,

:30:16. > :30:25.the son of Jay Haas. He is going very steadily, as he often does.

:30:26. > :30:34.Kjeldsen, after that rather flamboyant first putt. That was a

:30:35. > :30:56.bit bold, the first one. And shot thrown away. We need a bit

:30:57. > :31:02.of Stenson Mac -- we need a bit of Mickelson magic. With the wind, you

:31:03. > :31:06.need something special. He needs to land on some long forgotten piece of

:31:07. > :31:09.chewing gum, maybe, to stop it running. If anyone can do it, he

:31:10. > :31:22.can. And amazingly vicious swing, up in

:31:23. > :31:31.the air. That is a wonderful shot. To have the courage to swing that

:31:32. > :31:35.hard. A brilliant result. Steve Stricker, yesterday he had 17 pars,

:31:36. > :31:44.and an eight on his card, which was a shame. He is very reliable when he

:31:45. > :31:49.is potting. He plays a very economic schedule these days, but when he

:31:50. > :31:56.does play, he is normally there are thereabouts. Holmes, for a birdie at

:31:57. > :32:04.the ninth, this is to go to 6-under par. It is there.

:32:05. > :32:09.Well done, JB. Phil Mickelson took the outright lead at 515 on

:32:10. > :32:14.Thursday. That was on day one and he held it to 3:30pm this afternoon. 46

:32:15. > :32:20.hours and challenged at the top but he has company now after the opening

:32:21. > :32:24.birdie from Henrik Stenson, and tiptoeing into the picture, JB

:32:25. > :32:29.Holmes and Bill Haas. Zach Johnson has also picked up a birdie, and

:32:30. > :32:34.Rafa Cabrera-Bello, third on the European Tour's money list, he has

:32:35. > :32:39.had a wonderful season and it continues at Troon. Lots of red

:32:40. > :32:48.white and blue on the board. Back down to the third. This is quite an

:32:49. > :32:58.inviting bunker shot. If you mishit it, it will pitch on the downslope.

:32:59. > :33:03.Yes, yes. He misread it. A wonderful splash shot. Another birdie for

:33:04. > :33:25.Henrik. He is staking his claim. Johnson, for birdie. A rather

:33:26. > :33:35.unlikely birdie after that slightly well tee shot. Out in 33, going

:33:36. > :33:40.well. A birdie four Henrik Stenson. He currently has the outright lead

:33:41. > :33:53.at 11-under par, but Phil has won two tie with him. -- has one to tie.

:33:54. > :34:03.Can he read this for his third birdie of the day? Yes, they are

:34:04. > :34:07.starting to pull ahead, the final pairing, both 11-under par. Phil

:34:08. > :34:40.Mickelson targeting his second Open Championship.

:34:41. > :34:52.The tee shot of Zach Johnson, on the fifth hole.

:34:53. > :35:00.It will kick on from the back of the front bunker, no, straight into the

:35:01. > :35:09.front bunker. That is where McIlroy was earlier. Soren Kjeldsen, the

:35:10. > :35:15.pitch up the fourth hole. There is a little clearer just short of the

:35:16. > :35:24.flag. Get up, get help. The green is slow enough. That is just sticking.

:35:25. > :35:27.That for his birdie. JB Holmes, John Bradley Holmes, if you are

:35:28. > :35:34.wondering. If you were not, you have been told. He bumped that into the

:35:35. > :35:40.bank so well. It is a beautiful shot from JB Holmes. Nearly another

:35:41. > :35:48.birdie. Not a bogey on his card today. 6-under for the championship.

:35:49. > :35:58.Zach Johnson at five, the par three. He just caught the edge of the

:35:59. > :36:08.bunker. Always a dangerous thing, bunkers in links golf. Soren

:36:09. > :36:14.Kjeldsen, for his birdie. Yes. Kjeldsen breaks free of the pack on

:36:15. > :36:23.6-under. He is within four of Stenson and Mickelson.

:36:24. > :36:41.Henrik Stenson, sizing up his second to the fourth hole. He has played

:36:42. > :36:58.well today, rock-solid. One of the finest iron players in

:36:59. > :37:10.the game. That is an example of it. Great work by Stenson. That is for

:37:11. > :37:15.illegal. -- for eagle. Zach Johnson, for his bogey on the fifth. There

:37:16. > :37:23.was a shank in the bunker, it came out for a long putt, and then a

:37:24. > :37:31.horrible second, two shots gone for Johnson. He tumbled back to 4-under

:37:32. > :37:40.par. The veteran, Steve Stricker, on the final hole for birdie.

:37:41. > :37:47.That is a bit of a weak attempt for Steve. But that is a thin plastic

:37:48. > :37:57.round of 68. In difficult conditions. -- that is a wonderful

:37:58. > :38:04.round. 1-under par for the bag nine. He could sell that this afternoon.

:38:05. > :38:18.Bill Haas, 608 yards to the pin today. That is for his birdie.

:38:19. > :38:33.Martin Kaymer, to get to 4-under par. He strolls against. Martin

:38:34. > :38:43.Kaymer reaches the town in 35. Three birdies in his last four holes. That

:38:44. > :38:55.is a good birdie for Bill Haas at six. It takes him to 6-under par.

:38:56. > :39:00.Mickelson, this for birdie. Stenson even closer with a part for eagles

:39:01. > :39:12.to come. You can see the little ridge that he has to come up. --

:39:13. > :39:18.with a putt for eagle. Will it get their? It will, but slightly adrift.

:39:19. > :39:26.Par for Mickelson, and Stenson, with his chance to come. Garcia, on the

:39:27. > :39:38.Postage Stamp. Narrow stance, slightly open. Just 100 yards today.

:39:39. > :39:42.There we go, peppering the flag. Garcia playing alongside Andrew

:39:43. > :39:48.Johnston to be. Johnston has had a good one.

:39:49. > :39:59.So far, four Henrik Stenson, has it been such an assured start to the

:40:00. > :40:09.round. He is tied for the lead. This will take him a step forward.

:40:10. > :40:19.That is a bad putt. No eagle, but it will be another birdie. Three

:40:20. > :40:27.birdies in the first four holes. Henrik Stenson, 12-under par, leads

:40:28. > :40:32.the Open championship on his own. Yes, the 40-year-old from

:40:33. > :40:36.Gothenberg, standing six feet two, standing very proud. At the top of

:40:37. > :40:41.the Open championship leaderboard. What a dramatic start for Stenson.

:40:42. > :40:43.Phil Mickelson licking up at the man who is yet to win a major

:40:44. > :40:53.championship. There is a big green at the fifth

:40:54. > :40:58.hole, but it looks like a small target. Stenson wants to stay inside

:40:59. > :41:05.that right-hand bunker and feed it to the left.

:41:06. > :41:17.He has looked impressive. Is this his time?

:41:18. > :41:27.The wind has really dropped away. 13 mph, drifting from right to left.

:41:28. > :41:28.Mickelson, for the first time since Thursday afternoon, chasing the lead

:41:29. > :41:49.at the Open. The perfect club, but once again,

:41:50. > :42:00.Stenson is inside him. An awkward one on the sixth hole for Tony

:42:01. > :42:08.Finau. He got here in two. Alp and down for birdie. It was lying OK in

:42:09. > :42:10.the sand, so not too much trouble. All the way across the green on the

:42:11. > :42:28.fifth for Mickelson. He is just being outshone at the

:42:29. > :42:34.moment by Stenson. Now, Garcia for his two on the eighth hole.

:42:35. > :42:43.Perfectly judged. He claims the Postage Stamp. A birdie on the

:42:44. > :42:49.seventh and the eighth holes. He moves to 6-under par. Always put

:42:50. > :42:55.same routine, a couple of twirls with the Parker as he steps up. Feet

:42:56. > :43:10.apart and the forward price. There it is, he pops it in. A safe par on

:43:11. > :43:16.the fifth hole. And the smile. Finau, for birdie at the sixth hole,

:43:17. > :43:23.to join a group of four others, five players at 6-under par. They are

:43:24. > :43:27.behind the two runaway leaders. It might be raining again, but it is

:43:28. > :43:32.amazing how these guys have had the best of the conditions on Thursday

:43:33. > :43:37.and Friday, and now, as the leaders, they are getting the better fit

:43:38. > :43:46.again. The wind has dropped a little bit, and Henrik Stenson, it in

:43:47. > :43:52.front, to extend his lead. That was good. Go on. Everything but the

:43:53. > :43:58.hitting. A couple of inches short. It is a safe par for Stenson.

:43:59. > :44:00.3-under for his first five. Lining up on the sixth hole, the third shot

:44:01. > :44:23.for Kjeldsen. A bit of a downslope, but not lying

:44:24. > :44:30.too badly, Wayne. The club faces wide-open, the pin is at the front.

:44:31. > :44:37.What about that? He moves to 7-under par. He would have been kicking

:44:38. > :44:42.himself walking down from the tee that he could not get the ball well

:44:43. > :44:50.up into the green. There are many ways to make it two. Gently ease the

:44:51. > :44:56.pin aside. There we are, the Postage Stamp his mind. Dustin Johnson has

:44:57. > :45:00.been in all sorts of bother. They have moved the tee up on the 11th

:45:01. > :45:06.hole, but it is still taking its toll. The sixth shot for Johnson.

:45:07. > :45:13.That round that was going so well, he reached the turn in 33, 3-under.

:45:14. > :45:26.Soren Kjeldsen after pitching in from 80, 100 yards or so, for his

:45:27. > :45:27.birdie. Beautifully done. Soren Kjeldsen moves to 7-under, five

:45:28. > :45:40.behind. After a good long first putt from

:45:41. > :45:50.the front of the green, Keegan Bradley for birdie. He joins a group

:45:51. > :45:59.at 6-under. Andrew Johnston on the ninth. Good chance missed on the

:46:00. > :46:10.previous hole. Got within four or five feet but couldn't hole it. But

:46:11. > :46:19.he has this one. Cries of Beef, the leading home challenger, out to the

:46:20. > :46:25.turn in 34, 6-under. Dustin Johnson, this for a seven on the 11th. It's

:46:26. > :46:28.taken its toll on many players and Dustin Johnson, what around he had

:46:29. > :46:34.going but it comes to a juddering halt here on the 11th.

:46:35. > :46:43.Phil Mickleson is on the sixth and this could be ruling awkward, all

:46:44. > :46:55.the long rough trampled down. Very difficult. It actually looked there.

:46:56. > :47:15.Brilliant from Mickelson. That was outstanding. The master of recovery.

:47:16. > :47:28.Second shot, currently tied for third.

:47:29. > :47:48.Henrik Stenson took relief from the sprinkler head you can see in front

:47:49. > :47:54.of him. This was his birdie attempt. This is all coming from a very poor

:47:55. > :48:04.second shot. The only poor shot he has hit all day. Tony Finau. Hans

:48:05. > :48:16.low, prodding this forward. Only 100 yards. Don't be short of the pin,

:48:17. > :48:29.get a nicks well, that's going into the sand. Golf is a cruel game.

:48:30. > :48:34.Nastier. Sorry, Tony. Good luck at the 6th green, very close to the

:48:35. > :48:50.beach, wonderful stand behind there. Exposed to the elements. Phil

:48:51. > :48:52.Mickleson with a wonderful recovery. After that second shot and indeed

:48:53. > :49:03.the drive he will be very grateful of five there.

:49:04. > :49:12.Rather timid first putt from Bill Haas, this to stay at seven. A few

:49:13. > :49:19.players have misjudged this one on the ninth. That is an ugly bogey.

:49:20. > :49:24.Two under to the turn, out in 34, back to that group at 6-under. This

:49:25. > :49:30.is a result of that tee shot which looked so good at one point. Still

:49:31. > :49:41.there. Every moment captured for your enjoyment. After being flawless

:49:42. > :49:52.for the first five mac holes this is Henrik Stenson for par at six.

:49:53. > :49:59.That's a bogey. Drops back, into a tie for the lead with Phil Mickleson

:50:00. > :50:06.on 11-under. Soren Kjeldsen, nice four on the sixth, and a decent

:50:07. > :50:10.second shot in here. Soren Kjeldsen moving along well, a couple of

:50:11. > :50:18.bogeys today but three birdies and no within three of the leaders.

:50:19. > :50:23.STUDIO: Back together again, Mickelson and Henrik Stenson at

:50:24. > :50:27.11-under and only three behind after two birdies back-to-back, Soren

:50:28. > :50:33.Kjeldsen at 41 years old, the man who won at the Irish Open last year,

:50:34. > :50:37.knows how to play the links. He is making ground, and that trio on

:50:38. > :50:46.6-under beginning to make inroads into the lead from the top two. Not

:50:47. > :50:57.using his trusty three stroke two would here. Still straight behind

:50:58. > :51:12.them. Drifting a little bit to the right. Bunker down there. Just

:51:13. > :51:18.topples, that might be awkward. Mickelson meanwhile is off to the

:51:19. > :51:33.right. That's a fantastic view of the postage damp. -- postage stamp.

:51:34. > :51:49.Here we go again. 100 yards, causing the players fits. Par putt for Rory

:51:50. > :52:19.McIlroy. I would say his Open Championship is done.

:52:20. > :52:32.Opting to land it a little short and bounce it up. Touch unlucky.

:52:33. > :52:43.Soren Kjeldsen. So easy to read it back in as Tony Finau did.

:52:44. > :52:51.Beautifully played by Soren Kjeldsen.

:52:52. > :53:01.And awkward distance here for Henrik Stenson, about 45 yards. Some light

:53:02. > :53:13.rain so that will make the sand a bit more firm. Caught too much sand.

:53:14. > :53:28.Quite a difficult up-and-down from there. Rory McIlroy with his second

:53:29. > :53:35.on the 16th. Oh dear. Racket abuse. Frustration.

:53:36. > :53:49.Soren Kjeldsen for his sand save. Yikes. Give that a rattle as well,

:53:50. > :53:53.it's about the same distance past. Cleaned off the tee by that bunker,

:53:54. > :53:59.put it back in, couple of winters ago it was historically a bunker,

:54:00. > :54:06.and they decided to put it back in to guard against those going for the

:54:07. > :54:15.green. Henrik Stenson found it. Bump it up. Wonderful judgment,

:54:16. > :54:27.controlled touch from Henrik Stenson, should get his par. Bill

:54:28. > :54:33.Haas to try to save par on the 10th. Dropped a shot on the night. Phil

:54:34. > :55:05.Mickleson from long range on seven. Just have to hold the putter

:55:06. > :55:07.slightly above the ground to avoid the coin of Henrik Stenson. That is

:55:08. > :55:28.four. 11-under. Rory McIlroy is having a very in and

:55:29. > :55:41.out afternoon. More out than in. Little bit of redemption but only

:55:42. > :55:45.par. Mickelson birdie on the first and second rounds, fascinating to

:55:46. > :55:49.see how he plays this year. We have seen a few players spinning back

:55:50. > :55:54.into the front bunker, into the wind, just 100 yards. Try to be long

:55:55. > :56:11.of the flag. How much spin is on it? wind, just 100 yards. Try to be long

:56:12. > :56:21.Stay, stay, stay, stay, stay, stay. Well, survived, just.

:56:22. > :56:34.Henrik Stenson off the back foot, little forward press. Didn't even

:56:35. > :56:40.need to spin back into the bunker, straight in there. Poor shot from

:56:41. > :56:46.Henrik Stenson, he will be standing out of the bunker. Beyond awkward.

:56:47. > :56:55.JB Holmes has been going along very nicely with this. For par. That's a

:56:56. > :57:04.couple he has missed. They come and they go, the drift in and the drift

:57:05. > :57:08.out. Two dropped shots in a row. Henrik Stenson, pitched his tee shot

:57:09. > :57:14.in the front bunker at the 8th. Your shot, poor thinking. Pays the

:57:15. > :57:42.penalty, horrible place. Two nice clean hits and Billy has to

:57:43. > :57:44.spend the front of the 11th. -- Billy Hass has found the front of

:57:45. > :57:55.the 11th. What an massive break for Phil

:57:56. > :58:02.Mickleson, not trickling back into the bunker. Have seen quite a few

:58:03. > :58:06.comeback of the green, down the right-hand side. Screw around the

:58:07. > :58:12.bank and into the bunker, Phil Mickleson for two if he gets this.

:58:13. > :58:16.Good effort. Lucky that he missed the bank, stayed on the top and

:58:17. > :58:24.missed some down slope, gets his three.

:58:25. > :58:39.5-under for the past threes, that is impressive. -- par-3s. Henrik

:58:40. > :58:48.Stenson, make sure you get this. Four, shot dropped.

:58:49. > :58:57.It was wild and windy this morning and that was when King took a look

:58:58. > :59:01.at the 12th. Bit breezy this morning, this is the pin position

:59:02. > :59:08.sheet that the players will pick up, looking at number 12, eight on, five

:59:09. > :59:12.from the left. Here it is. Narrow portion of putting surface, four or

:59:13. > :59:18.five yards left, for five yards right, little basin. If you go to

:59:19. > :59:23.the left side you go down this little slope, very awkward. Beyond

:59:24. > :59:27.the flag there is a little bit of help, if you can pitch it in the

:59:28. > :59:32.bank, the ball could trickle back, the top tier would leave you a fast

:59:33. > :59:36.putt. If you go right, have a quick look at this, tricky putt bunker and

:59:37. > :59:38.from there you are playing down the hill. This is a little awkward,

:59:39. > :59:52.tight and narrow. This is Andrew Johnston at the 12th

:59:53. > :59:58.hole. This is a very small target. The great thing is to be straight.

:59:59. > :00:47.By golly, he is straight. Whatever length putt this is, 15, 16

:00:48. > :00:52.feet, it is quite easy. A little bit uphill. Moving from left to right.

:00:53. > :01:03.Make sure you hit it hard enough, Beef.

:01:04. > :01:18.Beef! He stays at 5-under par. Mickelson, uphill all the way, this

:01:19. > :01:24.birdie chance. This is on the ninth hole.

:01:25. > :01:35.A certain amount of treading water going on at the moment by the

:01:36. > :01:38.leaders. Sergio Garcia, in a good spot. This is critical, for par at

:01:39. > :01:58.the 12th hole. Up the ladder and down the snake,

:01:59. > :02:02.back to 4-under par. Stenson, 35 for the front nine against a par got 36.

:02:03. > :02:16.Phil is the same. This final pairing of Stenson and

:02:17. > :02:20.Mickelson, 1-under par for their respective friends today. Phil still

:02:21. > :02:26.leads the way. Soren Kjeldsen is in touch, level par for his round. Bill

:02:27. > :02:31.Haas and JB Holmes are making good progress, but they have got lots of

:02:32. > :02:36.work to do. Steve Stricker, tied for the best round of the day on 68.

:02:37. > :02:42.There is a gentleman that remembers the excitement and the tension of

:02:43. > :02:46.Royal Troon very well, Wayne Grady was the leader after 54 holes. Give

:02:47. > :02:51.us your impression of what is almost a match play situation at the top.

:02:52. > :02:55.Henrik, the first 56 holes were interesting. Henrik had the honour

:02:56. > :03:01.from the first and he looked like he was dictating play. He was playing

:03:02. > :03:05.well. It was a pivotal ballpoint in the round for Mickelson when Stenson

:03:06. > :03:16.bogeyed the sixth hole. He got the honour back. -- it was a pivotal

:03:17. > :03:21.ballpoint. The nastiest hole and the Open rotor is the 11th hole. It has

:03:22. > :03:28.just broken its own record for 23 triple bogeys. What are the

:03:29. > :03:34.particular challenges of the bag nine and the 11th hole? Ten is a

:03:35. > :03:38.blind tee shot, a living is all glass, you cannot see anything. They

:03:39. > :03:43.have taken about 30 yards of Gore side in the driving area on the

:03:44. > :03:47.right-hand side. It could have been worse. 12 is a cross breeze and the

:03:48. > :03:52.last six straight back into the wind. The hour-long holes, it is a

:03:53. > :03:58.long journey. We have seen it all week, scored on the front nine and

:03:59. > :04:01.hanging on the back. It is a long journey to the Claret Jug, but we're

:04:02. > :04:08.making progress and we will rejoin the leaders at the 10th hole. The

:04:09. > :04:15.hardest hole on the course today, you cannot see the fairway from the

:04:16. > :04:28.tee, all over the crest of the hill. Plenty of sixes, some savings. Just

:04:29. > :04:35.two birdies. -- some sevens. Is it? It is a beauty. It is a nice soft

:04:36. > :04:41.bones and it stays on the fairway. -- soft bounce. Stenson, Mickelson

:04:42. > :05:03.safely down the fairway. That is a good shot. It will come

:05:04. > :05:09.back from the slope. Nicely, nicely. The 10th green and this is a bogey

:05:10. > :05:20.putt for Soren Kjeldsen. Roth off the tee, he did not move it very

:05:21. > :05:32.far, and chip to hear. So bad, is six going on the card on this par

:05:33. > :05:46.four. God yourself and move on. McIlroy, the final hole. His third

:05:47. > :05:53.shot. Come along. That is the sort of date has been. A of miscues. A

:05:54. > :06:00.couple of sloppy shots, and if you Parkes that did not drop, and they

:06:01. > :06:10.all add up to 73. Not what you're his supporters were hoping for. 69,

:06:11. > :06:17.71, 73. He missed a couple of short ones early on. Andrew Johnston, an

:06:18. > :06:23.awkward chip. You will go to the left-hand side and hope it will move

:06:24. > :06:32.a little to the right. It has. That is a lovely shot. Did I say a lovely

:06:33. > :06:37.shot? Know do not get carried away by the adulation of the multitude,

:06:38. > :06:43.my boy. You have a good future ahead of you. Andrew Johnston, up there

:06:44. > :06:50.with that birdie at the 13th hole. If you're wondering why he's called

:06:51. > :06:55.Beef, as a child, someone said to him, your head is like a big piece

:06:56. > :06:59.of meat. That is why they love him. It is his first appearance at the

:07:00. > :07:04.Open championship for five years. A frustrating day for Rory McIlroy.

:07:05. > :07:08.His reflections now. I guess the best way to ask you

:07:09. > :07:13.about today was how was that? It was tough, I did not get off to the

:07:14. > :07:18.start I wanted. That is what killed me. I felt like I played the last

:07:19. > :07:22.few holes quite well. You cannot expect to make up may shots and the

:07:23. > :07:27.bag nine because of the way it was playing. To be over-par on the front

:07:28. > :07:32.nine, that was disappointing. You could not get it back. All the

:07:33. > :07:36.attention that you have got, the moment when the three wood snapped,

:07:37. > :07:42.what happened and what would you thinking at the time? It was not a

:07:43. > :07:45.good shot. I was trying to play one of the left and let it go and they

:07:46. > :07:51.went to the right and it was the same shot I played on the 15th. The

:07:52. > :07:56.ball nearly went out of bounds so it was frustration building up. I

:07:57. > :07:59.obviously did not mean for the club to break, but sometimes that is what

:08:00. > :08:09.happens, and hopefully I will try not to do it again.

:08:10. > :08:16.Garcia, marvellous iron play. He will launch it low, Andrew Little

:08:17. > :08:28.through the breeze. That is a beauty. 180 yards. It deserves a

:08:29. > :08:33.round of applause. Stenson and Mickelson both found the fairway

:08:34. > :08:39.from the tee. Mickelson friend the green, but Stenson did not. He has

:08:40. > :08:44.doffed his chip. Stenson for par, but first of all, Mickelson up the

:08:45. > :08:47.slope, for a very rear birdie at Number 10. It has a chance, boys and

:08:48. > :08:59.girls. Just a bit firm. He played it nicely. Will it run?

:09:00. > :09:20.Unlucky. It checked a bit too early. Stenson making a mess of this. I

:09:21. > :09:26.good tee shot. Short with his second, he played a per page, it is

:09:27. > :09:38.a long putt for par. We'll all be forgiven. Of course it is. -- it was

:09:39. > :09:42.a bad pitch. Mickelson must be thinking, I have got to pop in this

:09:43. > :09:58.five foot to tie. No wonder you can smile. Johnston, the par putt at the

:09:59. > :10:03.14th hole. The shot from the bunker came out here. Well, he in at the

:10:04. > :10:07.last, so if you give him two from the edge on the last, and a

:10:08. > :10:17.three-day, it all minds up to same thing. Disappointing. A little down

:10:18. > :10:28.the slope. You can see Vergini is aiming. It did turn enough. That is

:10:29. > :10:34.a good four. Two fours on the card, achieved in different ways. Garcia

:10:35. > :10:37.after the superb tee shot at the 14th. This is for two, to go to

:10:38. > :10:57.4-under par. Kjeldsen for par. Another one going.

:10:58. > :11:12.He dropped one at the 11th, and now another one at the 12th hole.

:11:13. > :11:18.This is Haas, Bill Haas at the 14th hole. If you find the green it is

:11:19. > :11:34.never a bad shot. And he has. Mickelson, rather fortunate. The

:11:35. > :11:41.ball was stopped from going into the bushes. That is his second shot,

:11:42. > :11:44.pumping it over at the end of the prickly stuff. Just the other side

:11:45. > :12:04.of the green. Stenson's short, dead straight. All

:12:05. > :12:10.he has to do is hit one straight. -- Stenson's shot. He has to pick the

:12:11. > :12:30.right club and hope for the best. It looks like a big iron. Yes. Just

:12:31. > :12:42.down in being Gradel. -- in dingly dell. Haas for a birdie at the 14th.

:12:43. > :12:46.This to go to 7-under par. Putts are coming up short because they did not

:12:47. > :12:52.cut the grass this morning. They thought the winds were so strong the

:12:53. > :13:00.bowls get blown about. Johnston has stayed on the fairway. He has got to

:13:01. > :13:08.put some draw on this. He has. Will they win send it back? That is a

:13:09. > :13:12.Cavanda in there. Phil was rather fortunate to stay out of trouble

:13:13. > :13:17.from the tee, and to play out over the bushes, he came up short. He has

:13:18. > :13:23.got to pitch over the bunker. His third shot. Delightful. That was not

:13:24. > :13:30.easy. You have got to keep your nerve to play those sorts of shots.

:13:31. > :13:36.That bank is quite sharp. It looks like he has a lofted club. He has

:13:37. > :13:41.put his hands forward. It looks like he's going to try to hit it into the

:13:42. > :13:59.bank and poppycock. Yes, he has, beautifully done. -- and pop it up.

:14:00. > :14:01.Very neat and tidy. Beef, splashing one out at the 13th hole, and

:14:02. > :14:18.nicely. He has that to save par. After that very good pitch over the

:14:19. > :14:24.bunker, Mickelson has this for a par four.

:14:25. > :14:32.That's a very good save, one of the best holes of the day. Was on the

:14:33. > :14:35.edge of trouble all the way up that hole. Dangerous hole and he has

:14:36. > :14:57.escaped with a par four. Once in awhile he will tweak one of

:14:58. > :15:00.these and this is one of those. Certainly is. Just over a metre

:15:01. > :15:18.long. Sweet as a nut. Can he save his par? Has tremendous

:15:19. > :15:27.support out there, his mum and his sister and a few others. Yes sir.

:15:28. > :15:30.Got a fantastic reception at the US Open a couple of weeks ago and

:15:31. > :15:36.getting cheered on here, there is nothing quite like it if you are a

:15:37. > :15:37.home player. Phil Mickleson at the 12th, continuing his strategy of

:15:38. > :15:57.Irelands. -- irons. He's got away with that.

:15:58. > :16:16.Lucky to be a left-hander, might have some sort of shot at it. Henrik

:16:17. > :16:24.Stenson also going with iron. Lovely.

:16:25. > :16:33.Bill Haas, third shot. All the humps and bumps. Roll fairway is over the

:16:34. > :16:58.top he flies, no Billy, no. JB Holmes at the 18th. For a round

:16:59. > :17:03.of 68. Good effort. Got off to a flying start. Dropped a couple

:17:04. > :17:11.coming back, four under par if he gets this one which I think he will.

:17:12. > :17:22.Joint sixth. Had a good run at the Masters recently as well. In

:17:23. > :17:27.Preston. -- impressive. Good scoring, very good scoring indeed.

:17:28. > :17:36.Tony Finau has played well as well, new name, new player, talented. Long

:17:37. > :17:38.putt for two. I told you he was talented but I didn't think he was

:17:39. > :17:50.that talented! STUDIO: As we look at it it is still

:17:51. > :17:55.the two at the top, Phil Mickleson with a little bit of trouble again

:17:56. > :18:00.off the tee but managing to keep it together. No black marks on his

:18:01. > :18:09.report card today. Henrik Stenson with two bogeys on his. Andrew

:18:10. > :18:20.Johnston in only his third major Championship, the 27-year-old

:18:21. > :18:26.Londoner making quite an impression. Lucky because it kissed off the

:18:27. > :18:36.course. Doesn't look too inviting. It certainly doesn't. Move out of

:18:37. > :18:40.the way if he's going that way! This could be all right. But it could be

:18:41. > :18:46.a disaster. We will wait and see. grouse. Pretty good escape there.

:18:47. > :19:24.Chance Henrik Stenson here. Can he find the green? Hang on he is

:19:25. > :19:29.saying, going left a bit. Never got there. Now they are virtually even

:19:30. > :19:45.Stephen. This is awkward, awkward pin.

:19:46. > :19:50.Sensible play. The nearest challenger for The Open to the two

:19:51. > :19:59.leaders, 6-under, Henrik Stenson 10-under, Phil Mickleson 11-under.

:20:00. > :20:10.Watch the control and the spin, tight lie, comes down on it steeply.

:20:11. > :20:15.Where's he going with this one? Here it comes. Should go down, that's an

:20:16. > :20:23.amazing shot. Little unlucky. Trickle down. That's what you call a

:20:24. > :20:44.bit of chubby. Going to try and give it at least

:20:45. > :20:51.five or six pieces of run. He fooled me. Ended up doing nothing.

:20:52. > :21:18.Very well done. Escaped with five. Slipping behind the leaders.

:21:19. > :21:25.Slight optical illusion, I thought Phil Mickleson was closer but

:21:26. > :21:44.obviously not, he is putting first. If he gets this in... And he does.

:21:45. > :21:53.Pressure on Henrik Stenson now. What a four. So close to that Bush,

:21:54. > :21:57.fabulous. Henrik Stenson, it's early, still another round and a few

:21:58. > :21:59.holes to go but this would be a body blow if he misses this. Serious body

:22:00. > :22:22.blow. Just see from this angle, it up the

:22:23. > :22:38.hill, as quick as Phil Mickleson's was down, this is slow. Big moment

:22:39. > :22:50.for Henrik Stenson. Oh yes. A nerveless putt, very well done. Very

:22:51. > :22:57.well done indeed. Third shot for Johnston. Miss the trouble if you

:22:58. > :23:25.can, and he has. 13th par four. The wind into the

:23:26. > :23:38.players off EEC the left. -- of the sea on the left.

:23:39. > :23:58.Good, healthy pet. Flying over the top and right into the middle of the

:23:59. > :24:06.fairway. Stenson hoping to become the first Swedish man, to win a

:24:07. > :24:17.major Championship. Plenty of girls have done it. Andrew Johnston. This

:24:18. > :24:20.will be third on his own. Not bad. I got position with his second shot.

:24:21. > :24:36.-- out of position. Stays at 5-under. Joint third at the

:24:37. > :24:44.moment. I would not like him to fall on top of me! STUDIO: Quick look at

:24:45. > :24:49.the leaderboard, Phil Mickleson coming through some trouble with

:24:50. > :24:55.still a 1-shot advantage, JB Holmes in with 69 today, one of the better

:24:56. > :24:58.rounds, tell us about it. So far this week I think you have played

:24:59. > :25:03.the front nine in 8-under and the back nine has proved much more

:25:04. > :25:07.tricky, how do you fix that for Sunday? You don't, that is just the

:25:08. > :25:11.golf course. I doubt anybody is under par on the back this week.

:25:12. > :25:15.It's tough, have to make your birdies on the front side going out

:25:16. > :25:24.and coming back in par is a great score. I had my chances to get some

:25:25. > :25:27.pars and didn't make them but it's tough, you have to do more of your

:25:28. > :25:48.scoring on the front. COMMENTATOR: Write down the flag.

:25:49. > :25:58.Sweetly struck. Phil Mickleson on the green, Stenson's ball looks as

:25:59. > :26:06.if it found little is Andy divot -- a little sandy.

:26:07. > :26:30.Good shot. Well executed. Bill Haas. Third shot at the 16th, monster

:26:31. > :26:47.par-5. Shot. It was. Honestly, it was. Now it's merely decent.

:26:48. > :26:53.Phil Mickleson up the slope. You get some idea if you look from left to

:26:54. > :27:02.right of the slope on this green and the way it runs, the movement in it.

:27:03. > :27:07.Phil Mickleson noted all of those things and did it beautifully.

:27:08. > :27:17.Superb putt. He's looking good. He is looking good. Lady luck is on his

:27:18. > :27:26.side. Mickelson in for a birdie three. Stenson trying to follow

:27:27. > :27:33.suit. No. Always a bit tentative, just a wee bit tentative. To the

:27:34. > :27:44.side of the hole. Mickelson sneaks further ahead. How do you fancy this

:27:45. > :27:49.one? Tight lie, big putt bunker in front of you. It's a little

:27:50. > :27:57.frightening. Played it well. Played it very nicely.

:27:58. > :28:14.This is slow. Very slow up here. Moves to 6-under. Six behind mind.

:28:15. > :28:22.Played in 86 major jump in chips and never won. You never know. -- major

:28:23. > :28:27.Championships. Andrew Johnston after the very good pitch over the bunker.

:28:28. > :28:31.Does it again, well done. Very well done. Just won the hole left and he

:28:32. > :28:53.is 5-under. -- just one hole left. Write down the flag, beautiful shot

:28:54. > :29:03.from Stenson. He knew it, he was walking after it. Soft conditions,

:29:04. > :29:08.Stenson firing it right at the flag. What a great character this guy is,

:29:09. > :29:10.Andrew Johnston. If he was to ever win a big event it would be

:29:11. > :29:24.incredible wouldn't it? Giving this is full attention.

:29:25. > :29:28.Staring down, sizing it up, lining up the ball. The leader, for birdie

:29:29. > :29:55.on the 14th. After all the add, it was ordinary,

:29:56. > :30:01.to say the least. -- after all that. After a perfect tee shot at 14,

:30:02. > :30:09.Henrik Stenson, to get within one. Yes, birdie two. He moves to

:30:10. > :30:23.11-under par. 2-under par for his round. Two heavyweight fighters.

:30:24. > :30:24.They are going to to toe. A very average first putt from Mickelson.

:30:25. > :30:40.This is to save par. He took his time over it. He misses

:30:41. > :30:47.it. There is a two shot swing. A birdie four Stenson, a bogey for

:30:48. > :30:56.Mickelson, they are tied at the top. The first dropped shot of the day

:30:57. > :30:58.for Mickelson. It does not compute. The second shot, the final hole for

:30:59. > :31:14.Johnston. He has played well. Andrew Johnston,

:31:15. > :31:22.he has that for a third consecutive 69.

:31:23. > :31:29.Keegan Bradley is slipping away at the moment, a couple of shots gone

:31:30. > :31:42.on the bag nine. And another one on the 15th hole. Time for Johnston to

:31:43. > :31:53.try and find a closing birdie. This is for 69. Beef denied.

:31:54. > :32:04.He has become this great character. A great personality, the Beef, but

:32:05. > :32:09.Andrew Johnston finishes with 70, alone in fourth place, 5-under par,

:32:10. > :32:18.the leading home player. We look forward to seeing him tomorrow.

:32:19. > :32:32.This is a very important putt for me, for Phil. -- for Mickelson. If

:32:33. > :32:38.he misses this, I get the feeling that Stenson is in control. What a

:32:39. > :32:43.great putt. Stenson would have been able to dictate play, but that was

:32:44. > :32:50.brilliant from Phil Mickelson. They are still locked together. If

:32:51. > :32:56.Stenson can roll this in, the jewel in the sun at Turnberry, a few miles

:32:57. > :33:03.down the road, 1977, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, separated from the

:33:04. > :33:10.rest. They are five clear of the rest of the field as the Stenson --

:33:11. > :33:14.as Stenson rolls it in. They are heading to the 17th. There are

:33:15. > :33:21.options, different ways to play it. Ken had a look at it earlier. The

:33:22. > :33:27.16th hole is a par five. It is 564 yards, out of range today with the

:33:28. > :33:31.breeze into you. You do not necessarily have to go with the

:33:32. > :33:35.driver. 295 and you run into that little creek. You can lay up in the

:33:36. > :33:39.correct position on the fairway. There are bunkers you have to avoid.

:33:40. > :33:44.If you can come in from the left, it gives you a good angle on the flag.

:33:45. > :33:51.The green is surrounded by bunkers and the flag today is cut on 24,

:33:52. > :33:58.four from the right. Have a look. It is right in that corner. See that?

:33:59. > :34:03.Lets have a look at it. It looks fairly enough killers. It is not too

:34:04. > :34:07.bad, but if you get your pigeon from the left-sided gives you a good

:34:08. > :34:13.angle. The green slopes from the bag right to the front left. The tricky

:34:14. > :34:18.thing is this pot bunker. You let it drift and you go in there, it leaves

:34:19. > :34:23.you such an awkward shot. The green is running away from you. That is

:34:24. > :34:27.the key bunker to be avoided. The players will aim to the left of the

:34:28. > :34:32.flag. It looks simple but Europe got to be pinpoint accurate with the

:34:33. > :34:36.approach, otherwise you can find trouble in the right. The wind has

:34:37. > :34:41.dropped a bit. Stenson with his trusty club of his. He cannot reach

:34:42. > :34:56.the burn today. This one instead of the driver.

:34:57. > :35:10.He has pulled out to the left. Depending on the lie, it was always

:35:11. > :35:13.a layup anyway. Not a good tee shot at 16 four Stenson. He has not

:35:14. > :35:24.strayed too far from the beaten path today. No Mickelson. You have at his

:35:25. > :35:33.caddy seeing left to right. He is going with the driver. -- you heard

:35:34. > :35:39.his caddy seeing. He has got some support out there, Mickelson. That

:35:40. > :35:49.is how cold and windy it is. With the driver, look how far back from

:35:50. > :35:56.the ditch Mickelson is. Billy Haas, for par at the last. The leader in

:35:57. > :35:57.the clubhouse. The six time US Tour winner, the former FedEx Cup

:35:58. > :36:11.champion. Stenson. This needs his full

:36:12. > :36:13.attention, his third shot to the 16th hole. Trouble from the tee. He

:36:14. > :36:29.got it up to here. He has just tugged a little bit.

:36:30. > :36:40.More than a little. That was wild. It has come out of its planned

:36:41. > :36:47.march, at least. That was loose. -- its plug mark. A great opportunity

:36:48. > :36:53.for Phil Mickelson with Stenson in the left-hand bunker, for Mickelson

:36:54. > :36:54.to put this close and make birdie, possibly reverse the two shot swing

:36:55. > :37:13.back on 14. Well done. Soren Kjeldsen, just looking to

:37:14. > :37:20.tickle this one down the slope, right to left. In she goes. Soren

:37:21. > :37:30.Kjeldsen, all sorts of problems on the back nine, but the birdie, and

:37:31. > :37:34.back to 3-under par. It looks like it is all about the two men at the

:37:35. > :37:40.top on the leaderboard, but Bill has still in touch, five shots back, and

:37:41. > :37:43.in fourth place on his own, Andrew Johnston, the man with facial hair

:37:44. > :37:48.that old Tom Morris would be proud of. I wonder how much he is loving

:37:49. > :37:54.his new-found star status. Let's find out. I loved it, I had a good

:37:55. > :38:01.playing partner to start off with, Sergio Garcia, he has a lovely man.

:38:02. > :38:06.Every hole, they are shouting Beef, I love it. To be able to have the

:38:07. > :38:11.fun, and take it seriously, you are now in contention going into the

:38:12. > :38:15.final day. What does that mean? That is what you want. At the start of

:38:16. > :38:20.the week, you want to be competing on Sunday. I am looking forward to

:38:21. > :38:24.it. We have enjoyed watching you interacting with the fans, slapping

:38:25. > :38:31.hands, does that come naturally to you? If someone puts their hand-out,

:38:32. > :38:35.I will give them a high five. It is about giving back, thousands of

:38:36. > :38:40.people coming out and supporting. We would not have golf tournaments if

:38:41. > :38:45.they were not out there. I really appreciated and I love it. I am

:38:46. > :38:49.going to give back. The ball has settled down into the middle of the

:38:50. > :38:57.bunker. It should not present too many problems. There we go. The

:38:58. > :39:05.least he would expect. Nicely played, to make up for his mistake

:39:06. > :39:16.with his third shot. Zach Johnson, it has been a hard, hard day for

:39:17. > :39:21.Zach Johnson. The closing hole. It is a birdie. He started so well,

:39:22. > :39:31.with a birdie on the second, but it has tumbled back today. Phil, for

:39:32. > :39:36.birdie. 12-under par. There you go. 2-under par for his round. He puts

:39:37. > :39:45.the pressure fairly -- squarely back on Henrik Stenson to make his par.

:39:46. > :39:52.Birdie for Mickelson. This to avoid a two shot swing.

:39:53. > :39:58.That is a good putt, it was not an easy one, little bit of

:39:59. > :40:04.left-to-right. Henrik Stenson, one shot behind Mickelson as they head

:40:05. > :40:08.to the 17th. The clubhouse leader spoke to Rishi Persad. I becoming

:40:09. > :40:13.more comfortable with links golf? You have got to know it is difficult

:40:14. > :40:18.that the view hate good-quality shots, you can play, but here the

:40:19. > :40:23.good quality shots are hard to come by. You have got to be patient. My

:40:24. > :40:27.potting will have to be better tomorrow. I made some nice putts

:40:28. > :40:32.today so I cannot blame that. But hopefully I will keep the ball in

:40:33. > :40:37.front of me, in play, out of the bunkers, and on the back nine, try

:40:38. > :40:46.to take on that challenge. It will be tough. Take your time. The final

:40:47. > :40:56.words from his caddy, take your time. Two holes to go, a 1-shot

:40:57. > :41:03.lead. I have never played with the pressure of the Ryder Cup. These

:41:04. > :41:06.guys are opponents. Use on their faces, the pressure out there in a

:41:07. > :41:18.major championship, it is something else. -- you saw on their faces.

:41:19. > :41:23.Mutterings and grumblings. Lots of players have been down there. It is

:41:24. > :41:31.lying OK. It will be interesting to see how he plays that. 217 yards, on

:41:32. > :41:38.the 17th, and quite some way behind the group in front. It is another

:41:39. > :41:44.good straight from Stenson, just asking it to move to the right. That

:41:45. > :41:49.is why. Look at that again, from distance. He is one of the best in

:41:50. > :41:54.the business with the irons. Distance control is all about solid

:41:55. > :42:25.contact and there is no better ball striker than Stenson.

:42:26. > :42:53.might have stuck in the bank. Out of bounds is right

:42:54. > :42:53.might have stuck in the bank. Out of the bank. He is not hitting another

:42:54. > :43:00.one. the bank. He is not hitting another

:43:01. > :43:10.playing this, but it seems to be the bank. He is not hitting another

:43:11. > :43:22.the hill is because the bank. He is not hitting another

:43:23. > :43:46.difficult shots. Kjeldsen, the bank. He is not hitting another

:43:47. > :43:57.bit. A chance to save par. It -- Stenson. These are

:43:58. > :43:57.bit. A chance to save par. It -- This too tidy lead. Yes. How about

:43:58. > :44:07.it? What the This too tidy lead. Yes. How about

:44:08. > :44:33.Twice on the back nine Henrik are trading blows,

:44:34. > :44:43.Twice on the back nine Henrik Stenson has made two, two shot

:44:44. > :44:49.swing. Henrik Stenson leads The Open Championship with one hole to go in

:44:50. > :45:09.Long walk back to the 18th tee. Phil Mickleson and Henrik Stenson are

:45:10. > :45:17.going punch for punch. A look from on high. To lead The Open

:45:18. > :45:27.Championship again. Walking, knew it was in. Jesper Parnevik came close,

:45:28. > :45:33.this Swede still has some way to go but he is on top. Keegan Bradley

:45:34. > :45:41.very fortunate not to go out of bounds. Stones at the back. Those

:45:42. > :45:54.are out of bounds. Pitching for birdie, nicely done.

:45:55. > :46:08.Getting a bit cooler, breeze across from the left hand into so it has to

:46:09. > :46:15.be the driver from Stenson. 305 to the bunker on the right. Heading in

:46:16. > :46:28.that direction. Should be short. It's playing a long way.

:46:29. > :46:32.Final tee shot for Phil Mickleson. The last time he won The Open

:46:33. > :46:43.Championship was the same year that Andy Murray won Wimbledon.

:46:44. > :46:49.A little bit further rate than Henrik Stenson. But that's perfect,

:46:50. > :47:12.not a problem. Par putt for Soren Kjeldsen. Nicely

:47:13. > :47:26.done. Nice way to finish, back 939, four over. Round of 75.

:47:27. > :47:39.Keegan Bradley has had his struggles on this back nine. This to finish

:47:40. > :47:48.with par. Wasn't even close. That's a 39 back nine as well. 76 were

:47:49. > :47:49.Keegan Bradley. Back to 2-under alongside Patrick Reed, Charl

:47:50. > :48:07.Schwartzel and Sergio Garcia. Mickelson taking a 5-iron. Bones

:48:08. > :48:12.says he wants him to carry it about 175. Ten yards on the green and

:48:13. > :48:21.hopefully it scoots back to the flag.

:48:22. > :48:35.Phil was right, Bones was wrong. Phil wanted to take another club. I

:48:36. > :48:43.get that you have to cover it but why do you have two interfere with

:48:44. > :48:51.that? I shot going off during his swing, a pretty stern rebuke to the

:48:52. > :48:57.photographers. -- a shot going off. Gentle rain coming in, the wind,

:48:58. > :49:08.Henrik Stenson, second to the last. What an opportunity.

:49:09. > :49:16.Opportunity to stick it in close and make birdie last Phil Mickleson is

:49:17. > :49:21.struggling. Phil Mickleson tipping the cap as he walks up between the

:49:22. > :49:27.giant grandstands, the champion from three years ago, his closest pursuer

:49:28. > :49:28.then was Henrik Stenson who leads him now towards the end of this

:49:29. > :49:39.third round. I used to love the old days,

:49:40. > :49:41.although they didn't do it Saturday, when they allowed all the crowd to

:49:42. > :49:57.follow you down the 18th fairway. It's lying OK, big bit of sand on

:49:58. > :50:06.the ball but shouldn't be too much of a problem. Coming out of a

:50:07. > :50:11.cushion of sand anyway. Sure he will have shaken off the frustration,

:50:12. > :50:20.we're about to watch a master at work.

:50:21. > :50:30.Wonderful shot, wonderful shot from Mickelson. Should still save par.

:50:31. > :50:37.All is forgiven and forgotten. Look at this. Sand on the ball has

:50:38. > :50:49.nothing to do with it. Blasting the ball out. Such a seriously good

:50:50. > :50:56.bunker player. Just picking a landing point.

:50:57. > :51:03.Bumps it on. He has judged it very well indeed. Lovely shot from Henrik

:51:04. > :51:13.Stenson. Will the leader of Henrik Stenson be

:51:14. > :51:32.one or two? Looked like he had left it out but

:51:33. > :51:40.finds the bottom of the cup. Round of 74 Phil Mickleson -- rendered 70,

:51:41. > :51:41.four Phil Mickleson. Shouldn't present too much of a problem for

:51:42. > :52:09.Stenson. Which he does. Wonderful round of

:52:10. > :52:20.golf from Henrik Stenson. Tricky conditions. Back nine for 68.

:52:21. > :52:23.12-under. He will lead The Open Championship by one. It might not be

:52:24. > :52:29.the battle in the sun like 77 at Turnberry when Tom Watson was

:52:30. > :52:33.starting to usurp Jack Nicklaus as the greatest player in the game but

:52:34. > :52:36.you have two heavyweights in Stenson and Mickelson who will battle it out

:52:37. > :52:42.tomorrow for The Open Championship. STUDIO: Could be more of a battle in

:52:43. > :52:47.the light drizzle here in Ayrshire once again. Henrik Stenson one shot

:52:48. > :52:54.ahead, leading in an major at this stage for the first time in his

:52:55. > :53:03.career, his 41st start in one of the big occasions in world golf. It's

:53:04. > :53:06.all about Henrik Stenson and it could be all about Phil Mickleson

:53:07. > :53:12.tomorrow but someone else could spring a surprise. Let's hear from

:53:13. > :53:21.both men. Yesterday we spoke about how good your 65 was, 68 today but I

:53:22. > :53:25.guess equally as valuable? Absolutely, it was as good as the

:53:26. > :53:30.65. It's always hard to compare rounds but it was tough on the back

:53:31. > :53:34.nine. Got off to a good start, could have been four under after the first

:53:35. > :53:37.five, dropped a couple and it was wobbling a little but got it

:53:38. > :53:43.together and played nicely in the last six or seven and picked up a

:53:44. > :53:45.few on the way home. Phil Mickleson denied you in 2013, how much are you

:53:46. > :53:53.looking forward to the battle tomorrow? I did remember that! It's

:53:54. > :53:57.going to be tough, he's a great competitor, one of the finest to

:53:58. > :54:01.play the game in the last 15, 20 years. A lot of people watching

:54:02. > :54:07.today enjoying the battle, how about you? It was a fun challenge, I

:54:08. > :54:12.didn't have my best, I was a bit out of sorts. I had a real challenge

:54:13. > :54:15.hanging in there. It was a real grind me, it wasn't easy like the

:54:16. > :54:21.first couple of days where I was striking it and keeping the ball in

:54:22. > :54:26.play. I made some difficult swings and some top pars but I shot a

:54:27. > :54:30.number, under par on a typical day and I'm glad to put myself into

:54:31. > :54:36.position heading into tomorrow's round. It was Rory McIlroy that said

:54:37. > :54:41.that Henrik Stenson and full right are playing their own tournament and

:54:42. > :54:47.it's been fascinating to watch. What were your hallmarks of Stenson's

:54:48. > :54:51.round today? The key to his round were 1011 and 12. Some trouble off

:54:52. > :54:58.the 10th tee, hacked out of the fairway and got onto the green and

:54:59. > :55:03.left himself this putt. This was to save his par and it was a real

:55:04. > :55:08.beauty. Slow up the hill and right into the centre. Absolutely vital,

:55:09. > :55:14.could have dropped one there. 11 he attacked his way up the whole,

:55:15. > :55:19.chipping up to here, Phil Mickleson had got his four par and he had a

:55:20. > :55:26.horrible one from about a yard. Watch what he does, confident pace,

:55:27. > :55:34.right into the centre, two keep putts. At the 12th he does the same

:55:35. > :55:39.thing, comes up a bit short, pitches up to here, again Phil Mickleson has

:55:40. > :55:52.got his par. At the hill with a bit of pain from left to right. That was

:55:53. > :55:57.vital. This is the first time he's ever held the 50 for hole lead, the

:55:58. > :56:02.first time he has been in the final pairing going into the last day, how

:56:03. > :56:07.do you think he might cope? He is bound to be nervous, he's done

:56:08. > :56:12.everything in golf, world number six, outstanding tee to green game

:56:13. > :56:17.and I think evil revel in it. As per Phil Mickleson he is the man with

:56:18. > :56:21.all the experience. It was this part of the round, the middle of the

:56:22. > :56:33.round which was important for him at the 12th. He had played some super

:56:34. > :56:37.golf, iron off the tee. The ball is going to go into the bushes but it

:56:38. > :56:43.hits the side and it just comes back out. Still awkward, a lot of players

:56:44. > :56:51.might have considered dropping, very little backswing. It's risky because

:56:52. > :56:57.the club has to go through the grass, he gouges it down the

:56:58. > :57:01.fairway. Did very well. Got it on the short stuff and the flag mac was

:57:02. > :57:06.right on the front of the greens so that was handy. His wedge play for

:57:07. > :57:12.so much of this round was magnificent as you would expect.

:57:13. > :57:22.This was magnificent, unbelievable, you think oh no, but you little

:57:23. > :57:30.devil, a little unlucky didn't go closer and holed that putt four par.

:57:31. > :57:36.Fantastic. Any advantage for you in his experience of the situations?

:57:37. > :57:40.He's a major winner, won The Open Championship and seems to thrive on

:57:41. > :57:45.links golf. And he has been putting beautifully all week. Time to hand

:57:46. > :57:51.out the praise in the shot of the day. Straight on the money, who will

:57:52. > :58:00.it be? Henrik Stenson with the tee shot, listen to this. Beautiful.

:58:01. > :58:05.Flushed it, hoping the wind will drift it to the right but watch when

:58:06. > :58:11.it lands. Drops down like a bag of sugar. Then he holed it of course. I

:58:12. > :58:17.am sure he will be delighted with that honour but what he wants is the

:58:18. > :58:30.Claret Jug, tomorrow we are on a at 8pm.

:58:31. > :58:38.High temperatures are on the way here in Scotland, on Monday. But not

:58:39. > :58:43.tomorrow I am afraid. It will be more of the same, pretty cool,

:58:44. > :58:50.breezy, damp, it will be absolutely fantastic. The final day of The Open

:58:51. > :58:57.Championship here at Royal Troon. Is someone else going to steel the

:58:58. > :58:58.show? From all of us here we look forward to your company tomorrow.

:58:59. > :59:08.Goodbye. It sparked the greatest

:59:09. > :59:41.transformation in British history. It had nothing like the impact

:59:42. > :59:50.of the railways. Discover how the steam revolution

:59:51. > :59:54.shaped the way we live today.
