:01:09. > :01:17.It is time for the men's European gymnastic championships. Welcome to

:01:17. > :01:21.Montpellier. Let's deal with the ladies first, and two weeks ago and

:01:22. > :01:31.inexperience British team went to Brussels and Sean, with Hannah

:01:32. > :01:39.

:01:39. > :01:43.Whelan stealing the show. -- and shone. On the men's side, getting

:01:43. > :01:53.things off to a flying start here in Montpellier with the junior

:01:53. > :01:54.

:01:54. > :02:04.British team and they were from a double in their hunt for medals. --

:02:04. > :02:20.

:02:20. > :02:26.Three junior gold medals, you came here and won everything you entered.

:02:26. > :02:32.I am extremely happy. The lads have done me proud. They helped me out

:02:32. > :02:36.in the team final so I am really happy. No nerves on the high bar at

:02:36. > :02:45.the end? You yes, I was nervous considering there have been some

:02:45. > :02:49.high scores but I just did my job. You won the rings gold medal, how

:02:50. > :02:54.did you do that? I don't know, I have been working hard for five

:02:54. > :03:00.years so I am really happy to do it. years so I am really happy to do it.

:03:00. > :03:05.The gold on pommel horse, no pressure on you then! No, none at

:03:05. > :03:10.all! I was the most nervous I have been, shaking, but I just did my

:03:10. > :03:16.best. Frank, three gold medals and a gold medal for the team as well.

:03:17. > :03:23.How proud are you of these people? I have got to know them like family,

:03:23. > :03:27.and to do this is excellent. Now it is time for the older men to make

:03:27. > :03:31.their mark on Europe. Dan Keatings is not in the British team but its

:03:31. > :03:41.five members are growing in confidence so can they get on to

:03:41. > :03:45.

:03:45. > :03:50.the medal podium? Louis Smith introduces us to the senior team.

:03:50. > :03:55.There are five guys in my team, starting with me, Louis Smith, I am

:03:55. > :03:59.captain and my speciality is the pommel horse. I am a bit of a joker.

:03:59. > :04:05.If you look at the overall picture to where we were five years ago, we

:04:05. > :04:13.have done extremely well. We are in the team final, a qualified first,

:04:13. > :04:18.so it is going very well. What is going through your ears last thing

:04:18. > :04:26.before you get on to the pommel horse? For a bit of reggae. We have

:04:26. > :04:31.a playlist sorted, and I will be jamming away. Next we have Kristian

:04:31. > :04:37.Thomas who qualified for the floor and vault finals. He is the tallest

:04:37. > :04:43.man in the team, so watch out for him. I really have put in the hours,

:04:43. > :04:47.the blood, sweat and tears, so it is good it is starting to pay off.

:04:47. > :04:51.It has taken a few years to get here but we are happy at the

:04:51. > :04:59.position we are in. If you come to these tournaments expecting to do

:04:59. > :05:03.well, not thinking we might make that final, we might do this, it is

:05:03. > :05:13.good and it helps our attitude. Next we have our superhero, Dan

:05:13. > :05:15.

:05:15. > :05:20.Purvis, who qualified for the floor final despite being ill. I really

:05:20. > :05:26.want to put in a good score, I felt quite a bit of pressure. Standing

:05:26. > :05:31.there thinking I have to perform this massive 2.5 Twist, I landed it

:05:31. > :05:36.and I thought don't do about it, just do it. I landed sideways and

:05:36. > :05:42.ran into one of the judges. As I was doing it, I thought I can't

:05:42. > :05:46.believe this is happening. I landed, one of the judges caught me and I

:05:46. > :05:56.couldn't believe it happened. we have Max Whitlock, he will be

:05:56. > :06:04.

:06:04. > :06:09.joining me in the pommel horse finals. He is a gamer. This is

:06:09. > :06:19.really big and everyone is looking forward to the final. Finally we

:06:19. > :06:21.

:06:21. > :06:25.have our powerhouse on the vault final, watch out for his big vaults.

:06:25. > :06:34.Training had twice a day, you wouldn't say it is easy, it is just

:06:34. > :06:38.for one day and you have to do it right so all the hard work can pay

:06:39. > :06:46.off. We have done one thing, then there is another stage where you

:06:46. > :06:52.have to do a little bit better and take it home at the right time.

:06:52. > :06:56.have a team final coming up with five guys in the team. Five Guys

:06:56. > :07:06.compete on each piece and only those scores count so if you make a

:07:06. > :07:24.

:07:25. > :07:31.For the first of their six pieces This is the first gymnast for Bella

:07:31. > :07:41.Rhoose, one of three. The 20 five- year-old. They didn't have a great

:07:41. > :07:46.

:07:46. > :07:52.A very nice easy start, half turned in the Arabian role, nice and clean.

:07:52. > :07:59.This is the secret here. Put your first man caught with a good,

:07:59. > :08:06.steady routine. He is not taking any chances. Dislocate into

:08:06. > :08:11.handstand from the manner position, very nice touch. A double twist and

:08:11. > :08:21.a hop forward. Sometimes when you see the clean routine like this,

:08:21. > :08:28.

:08:28. > :08:38.not too difficult, it really is Cleanly held. He loves that

:08:38. > :08:45.

:08:46. > :08:52.2.5 twist to finish, a good steady team start. There is a long way to

:08:52. > :08:56.go. Or obviously quite a tactical decision here to go with a

:08:56. > :09:06.decision here to go with a relatively straightforward routine.

:09:06. > :09:13.

:09:13. > :09:23.Should be a steady first score for Their first gymnast fell so they

:09:23. > :09:28.

:09:28. > :09:33.have only got to carry one fall. third gymnast, it is. He has

:09:33. > :09:43.faltered on the very first difficulty. When your first man

:09:43. > :09:59.

:09:59. > :10:06.falls, there is a lot of pressure half-turn. He has done well,

:10:06. > :10:13.because he started very nervously with the very first half --

:10:13. > :10:18.handstand. This was a much better team performance from the Ukraine

:10:18. > :10:28.in qualification than we have seen for a couple of years. A young team

:10:28. > :10:40.

:10:40. > :10:50.from the Ukraine, the eldest is 20 Great Britain. Max Whitlock was the

:10:50. > :10:50.

:10:50. > :11:37.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 46 seconds

:11:37. > :11:47.first gymnast from Great Britain up, that is a good sign that he is

:11:47. > :12:05.

:12:05. > :12:15.What a super of routine. Kristian Thomas made that look easy. What a

:12:15. > :12:45.

:12:45. > :12:53.roof but he didn't hit the floor very well at all. Let's have a look

:12:54. > :13:01.at this. The half-turn was very late. That is at least a point off.

:13:01. > :13:08.You can see he was released laying the legs to get in tight. That will

:13:08. > :13:15.be a big debate - were the feat in before the hands? He has been given

:13:15. > :13:25.as zero. We did wonder, didn't we? We thought it was very close. That

:13:25. > :13:42.

:13:42. > :13:52.third of the Russian gymnasts four. The Russian team qualified in third

:13:52. > :14:11.

:14:11. > :14:18.place on the reins, a fantastic Really showing the strength work,

:14:18. > :14:26.nothing rushed about the routine. Just a little bit of shaking as he

:14:26. > :14:33.holds it. But he controls the top of the Rings well. Into the double

:14:33. > :14:43.front dismount, well landed. He is thrilled with that routine.

:14:43. > :14:48.

:14:48. > :14:58.strength and depth Unido on the the vault, which tends to score

:14:58. > :15:06.

:15:06. > :15:13.higher. That is why they are up in only slight, but he flies through

:15:13. > :15:17.the air. If it is perfect, 17. That would be some score. He turns and a

:15:18. > :15:23.triple twist. He makes the turn, snaps three twists, straight down

:15:23. > :15:25.the middle. That is the thing. Some people might say that without the

:15:25. > :15:35.somersault it doesn't look as difficult. But look at the twists

:15:35. > :15:54.

:15:54. > :15:58.Look at the size of him. Absolutely message needs to be that shoulders

:15:58. > :16:04.make a straight line. It looks a tiny bit up, but might be the

:16:04. > :16:14.camera angle... That is a straight line. So is that. He is in good

:16:14. > :16:44.

:16:44. > :16:51.but that is too high on the with a straight back. Look at him,

:16:51. > :16:56.isn't he a powerful looking guy? You can see that his body is

:16:56. > :17:03.straight, his shoulders are down. Phenomenal strength. But I am very

:17:03. > :17:13.impressed with the dismount. Double-doubles, at one time it was

:17:13. > :17:23.unusual to see those. But now they are all performing like that.

:17:23. > :17:42.

:17:42. > :17:47.Beijing. He's been a European vault deeper on the landing. But a hugely

:17:48. > :17:53.difficult vault. Enough to keep Russia in the lead? Enough to keep

:17:53. > :18:03.Russia in the lead. A double pike, the shape is all right. That is a

:18:03. > :18:19.

:18:19. > :18:29.The second gymnast up. Dan Purvis young shoulders of Max Whitlock,

:18:29. > :18:34.

:18:34. > :18:44.from the South Essex gymnastics He moves fast. He packs in the

:18:44. > :18:48.

:18:48. > :18:52.difficulty. He asked to keep difficult. He is building his

:18:52. > :18:59.difficulty. An all-important dismount and he swings into the

:18:59. > :19:03.finish. What a fabulous routine. What a performance! Massive. He

:19:03. > :19:12.didn't do the best in qualifying but that was superb. That is a huge

:19:12. > :19:19.score. It's going to be 15.5 plus, I would think. Anton Golotsutskov,

:19:19. > :19:27.a massive score. 16.1. So, Louis Smith is the next on the pommel

:19:27. > :19:33.horse. He has a lovely, relaxed swing. But he is still extended. He

:19:33. > :19:43.has such fast reactions. He is very quick on his hands. Full extension.

:19:43. > :19:55.

:19:55. > :20:05.Good, accurate placement of the the pommel horse. The big bronze

:20:05. > :20:15.

:20:15. > :20:25.conquered it. The work he can do 11 hand, an extra turn will give him

:20:25. > :20:32.

:20:32. > :20:42.the A & E. That is how you build all named after the gymnast or the

:20:42. > :20:49.

:20:49. > :20:56.massive routine. He got 15.9 in qualifying. Come on, 16. Come on,

:20:56. > :21:03.judges. Give him 16. House mood was that? Unbelievable. -- House move

:21:03. > :21:13.with was that. He looked full of confidence. Sometimes you watch him

:21:13. > :21:47.

:21:47. > :21:53.and get nervous. 15.833. The judges quite well. They are making these

:21:53. > :21:59.doubles looks so easy. They are, but he would not want to land too

:21:59. > :22:09.many times like that. The pressure that your ankles take on that kind

:22:09. > :22:21.

:22:21. > :22:28.parallel bars. Can they stay in the bronze-medal position? A very good

:22:28. > :22:34.start. A little bit rushed, his first few elements. But that had a

:22:34. > :22:40.lovely height and flight. Great somersault. That was very nice

:22:40. > :22:50.indeed. Really travelled well. He is almost working the parallel bars

:22:50. > :22:53.

:22:53. > :23:00.like the high bars, really. Lots of his showing control of the top of

:23:00. > :23:07.his handstand. Always a little bit arched. Super height, with a hop

:23:07. > :23:17.forward in the dismount. That was very interesting. A lot of doubles.

:23:17. > :23:38.

:23:38. > :23:48.A spectacular extra struggle. That the Russian team. Really going well.

:23:48. > :24:03.

:24:03. > :24:07.A lovely swing. Look at those legs, what I mean by holding a handstand

:24:07. > :24:14.and unsettling for your next elements. Absolutely rock-solid at

:24:14. > :24:19.the top of the swing. Another massive struggled front somersault.

:24:19. > :24:25.Every time he hits that position, he gives himself time in the air.

:24:25. > :24:32.That was classy work. That was a joy to watch. It had a lovely tempo.

:24:32. > :24:42.Really good. He's brilliant on reins as well. The same sort of

:24:42. > :24:55.

:24:55. > :24:59.consummate style. It really was the Russians. Panteleymonov, three

:24:59. > :25:09.pieces of apparatus today for Great Britain. Great Britain are

:25:09. > :25:33.

:25:33. > :25:43.not hold that position either. Come Britain. It is not their strongest

:25:43. > :25:56.

:25:56. > :26:06.angle, but I thought he was a bit low. He needs to stick this, hop to

:26:06. > :26:29.

:26:29. > :26:34.team at 29 years old. That was a and Romania third. Ukraine are 4th.

:26:34. > :26:44.Switzerland are 5th, with Germany moving up into 6th. A big scoring

:26:44. > :26:44.

:26:44. > :27:32.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 46 seconds

:27:32. > :27:39.succession. Tough worker. Good, got away with it. There is a lot of

:27:39. > :27:44.work in this, I will tell you. Double pike. Just a little skip

:27:44. > :27:51.backwards. But that was so businesslike. Plenty of swing,

:27:51. > :28:01.plenty of grit and determination. They have put up a very young team.

:28:01. > :28:01.

:28:01. > :28:47.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 46 seconds

:28:47. > :28:52.Small, slight and full of new work, A little bit wild with the legs.

:28:52. > :28:57.That was a little bit late. Just tiny errors that will stop the

:28:57. > :29:07.score going sky-high. But a good swing. He keeps the swing would in

:29:07. > :29:18.

:29:18. > :29:28.all the time. In and out. In this work you do, you have to hit all of

:29:28. > :29:41.

:29:41. > :29:46.your hands dance. The more work he know he is great at the vault, but

:29:46. > :29:56.a lot of people don't remember that in 2000 he was the all-round

:29:56. > :29:56.

:29:56. > :30:02.champion. A useful man to have one your team. Miles adrift. The door

:30:02. > :30:07.is open for Great Britain. That was a country mile away. He just didn't

:30:07. > :30:17.make the action. He was so close on the first couple of releases that

:30:17. > :30:28.

:30:28. > :30:34.Denmark adrift so he needs the difficulty. Great Britain still

:30:34. > :30:39.have it all to go through. He has recovered very well because he

:30:39. > :30:45.looked groggy after that fall. Almost missed his grasp on the

:30:45. > :30:55.twist, and what will he do for the dismount? Well done desquamation

:30:55. > :31:03.

:31:03. > :31:12.marred full twist, double straight. -- Well done! He didn't really look

:31:12. > :31:19.settled on any of the first lot of releases. Kristian Thomas, he has

:31:19. > :31:26.qualified for the European vault final. Heaney to land this, no

:31:26. > :31:32.questions asked. And this is a massively risky vault. He got the

:31:32. > :31:38.feet down but he had the hands down as well. That almost looked too

:31:38. > :31:43.leisurely in the approach. It is very high, but that is a hallmark

:31:43. > :31:49.of without any question. What happened on high bar, he has now

:31:49. > :31:58.even doubt. It is a good competition - relax, don't look so

:31:58. > :32:08.worried! Can you believe this? Not as costly as we thought, perhaps.

:32:08. > :32:13.

:32:13. > :32:21.No, but not the 16.9. He will have to go all out with his highest

:32:21. > :32:31.difficulty. He is very good. Did he qualified first? Yes, junior

:32:31. > :32:50.

:32:50. > :32:54.champion on the high bar, scoring good, difficult work. This is how

:32:55. > :33:04.he is getting the difficulty, getting close to handstand on the

:33:05. > :33:23.

:33:23. > :33:29.up, good style. Brilliantly done. Brilliantly done indeed. They are

:33:29. > :33:39.very delighted, but of course with all three scores counting, they

:33:39. > :33:43.

:33:43. > :33:49.can't drop the 12th. He catches the full can't stretch. -- arm stretch.

:33:49. > :33:56.That was a great response, he got stuck in, rocketed off the top and

:33:56. > :34:01.made a half-turn. Back in with a shout. We can see the whole vault

:34:02. > :34:11.here. Look at the power down the runway, lifting off, under lovely

:34:12. > :34:25.

:34:25. > :34:35.lead. Russia into second, 15.766. With two pieces of apparatus to go,

:34:35. > :35:01.

:35:01. > :35:11.Great Britain leading by Neelie two done every single piece today.

:35:11. > :35:24.

:35:24. > :35:31.are what you are after here. There is the fall would hit circle done

:35:31. > :35:41.successfully, not an easy move. And another one for good luck. A little

:35:41. > :35:44.

:35:44. > :35:53.bit late. The combination makes it slightly more difficult. Double

:35:53. > :36:00.Double, and again, a falter on the dismount. He will not be happy at

:36:00. > :36:06.the moment. Romania have a little bit more experience, don't they?

:36:06. > :36:16.They have got some great work. He was very nippy with his work,

:36:16. > :36:31.

:36:31. > :36:37.catches in the next grasp, up into Romanians on the floor. Star At

:36:37. > :36:43.with a full twisting front, absolutely amazing. He is so aware

:36:43. > :36:53.and able to twist. A lot of gymnasts lose where they are when

:36:53. > :37:06.

:37:06. > :37:14.they do more to pull twisting, he in support very nicely as well. One

:37:14. > :37:24.of the more experienced members of the Romanian team. It goes so fast,

:37:24. > :37:25.

:37:25. > :37:31.you can barely count them as you see them. That is why we say the

:37:31. > :37:38.judges need a good eye, they need to be able to see the twists. Not a

:37:38. > :37:48.flicker on landing, really good work. So more of this work - that

:37:48. > :37:51.

:37:51. > :38:01.is how he starts, full twist into 2.5 twists, amazing. Flavius Koczi,

:38:01. > :38:03.

:38:03. > :38:11.15.033. They go ahead of the Ukraine. The second Russian gymnast.

:38:11. > :38:21.Look at that. Double twist in pike back out, double twisting, double

:38:21. > :38:26.

:38:26. > :38:34.back. Very smooth. He is a classy gymnast. Just as a sort of side

:38:34. > :38:44.pass there, a double Arabian with a half-turn. That was not very clean.

:38:44. > :39:01.

:39:01. > :39:10.controlled. It was controlled. A big tumble, a super landing. They

:39:10. > :39:20.do these fall twisting from so well. He is absolutely delighted. They

:39:20. > :39:34.

:39:34. > :39:44.know they are battling for every penultimate piece of apparatus, Dan

:39:44. > :39:55.

:39:55. > :40:05.Purvis. A tiny adjustment. Nothing serious so far. Nice, good control.

:40:05. > :40:10.

:40:10. > :40:18.The fall would spins have been done very well. -- forward spins. This

:40:18. > :40:28.is now really close. Russia have finished on the floor, and Dan

:40:28. > :40:32.

:40:32. > :40:42.Purvis needs 13.615 to stay ahead of them. He has 14.633! The high

:40:42. > :40:42.

:40:42. > :40:52.bar next. So Great Britain lead Russia. That was the real battle

:40:52. > :41:01.

:41:01. > :41:10.the pommel horse here with Flavius Koczi. Starting that single legwork

:41:10. > :41:16.early on in the routine but he bounced his knee off then. Into the

:41:16. > :41:24.more comfortable double leg work. He has a good physique for pommel

:41:25. > :41:31.horse, a light frame, able to press down well and lift his body up high.

:12:38. > :12:38.

:12:38. > :13:24.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 46 seconds

:13:24. > :13:31.medal? He needs to be just as three-quarters. When you're told

:14:20. > :14:28.He has done a good job. Just outside the medals. Disappointment

:14:28. > :14:34.for Kristian Thomas. It looks like the French team have appealed, and

:14:34. > :14:41.Gael Da silver has been reinstated with his original score, which

:14:41. > :14:47.gives him a share of the bronze. Kristian Thomas finishes in fifth

:14:47. > :14:52.place. Fifth place, and just go outside the medals. Is it as

:14:52. > :14:57.frustrating as we think? definitely, but it was not my

:14:57. > :15:00.cleanest of routines. My legs are feeling the burnt out there and it

:15:00. > :15:05.was hard work getting through so I have got to be impressed with

:15:05. > :15:09.getting through the Rete and cleanly. Time for the European

:15:09. > :15:17.pommel horse battle, and for Louis Smith, his biggest obstacle here

:15:17. > :15:23.has always been his Hungarian opponent. Throughout his career,

:15:33. > :15:34.

:15:34. > :15:38.15.9 is a massive score, but when finals come around it is a brand

:15:38. > :15:47.new day. You've got to do another routine and impress the judges

:15:47. > :15:51.again. He's a good gymnast. For me, he has done better. But I have a

:15:52. > :15:55.respect for him. Potentially, I know I have enough talent in the

:15:55. > :16:05.bank. I have worked hard enough over the years to believe that I

:16:05. > :16:05.

:16:05. > :16:09.can beat him. He is younger than me. But he's very good. He's a

:16:09. > :16:19.fantastic competitor, he is a calm, collected guy. He rarely makes a

:16:19. > :16:34.

:16:34. > :16:43.mistake. Fair play to him, but I in this pommel horse final feeling?

:16:43. > :16:48.We caught up with 19-year-old Max In the final with Louis, what are

:16:48. > :16:53.the odds of creeping about him? would be amazing. He is amazing on

:16:53. > :17:03.the pommel horse, along with Krisztian Berki, he was tried with

:17:08. > :17:18.him in qualification. -- tied with champion. But seniors is a very

:17:18. > :17:47.

:17:47. > :17:55.one break so far. Travelling forward and backwards. Very quick.

:17:55. > :17:58.Keep it smooth. Get the rhythm. Well, that is the lead. What a

:17:58. > :18:02.recovery on that the dismount. That was tremendous. That's the hardest

:18:02. > :18:12.routine we have seen so far in this final. Such a quick thinking

:18:12. > :18:12.

:18:13. > :18:19.gymnast. The difficulty in this was huge. He worked the apparatus so

:18:19. > :18:27.fast and kept such control of it. Just the like separation. But it

:18:27. > :18:33.was almost as if it didn't happen. -- leg separation. That is where he

:18:33. > :18:43.hit the handle. Many a gymnast would have fallen. He really has

:18:43. > :19:09.

:19:09. > :19:17.triple Russian in the middle. That is so difficult to swing clear of

:19:17. > :19:27.the hand. A lovely bit of technique. Shoulders pressed back, keeping it

:19:27. > :19:30.

:19:30. > :19:40.his way through to the dismount and he keeps the rhythm. That was

:19:40. > :19:47.impressive. He is definitely back for medal here, in 2012. Single

:19:47. > :19:50.legwork, as you said. Many gymnasts are opting to do that right at the

:19:50. > :19:55.beginning of the routine. He didn't lose for more rhythm into the

:19:55. > :20:05.dismount. That is proven, for many gymnasts, to be a bit of a

:20:05. > :20:19.

:20:19. > :20:24.done so much for the interest in men's gymnastics in Great Britain.

:20:24. > :20:34.So many medals at international level. It would be great to see him

:20:34. > :20:45.

:20:45. > :20:55.into the rhythm. It's about precision and about keeping back

:20:55. > :20:59.

:20:59. > :21:09.through the spindle. He has picked up the rhythm of the circle. Triple

:21:09. > :21:19.

:21:19. > :21:29.Russian. I'll tell you what, he's Louis Smith. He's gone through

:21:29. > :21:39.

:21:39. > :21:44.again. He's through. Now it's in at the beginning. He has the most

:21:44. > :21:49.difficult routine. What he loses on generally is the execution score.

:21:50. > :21:55.When you split your legs or do not. Your toes, the judges take points

:21:55. > :22:00.off. -- do not point your toes. He needs to get into nine pluses on

:22:00. > :22:06.execution. He really worked hard at it. This was much cleaner, for my

:22:06. > :22:10.money. What do you reckon? The only fault that I have seen was a tiny

:22:10. > :22:18.bend in the arm on the way to the handstand. The rest of it, look at

:22:18. > :22:25.that smile, he could be delighted with that. I wonder? 15.9 in

:22:25. > :22:35.qualifying. 15.775. Definitely the winning score at the moment. But

:22:35. > :22:57.

:22:57. > :23:05.current world and European champion, medal contention. -- within a gold

:23:05. > :23:15.medal contention. That leg separation, look at this.

:23:15. > :23:28.

:23:28. > :23:38.Playing safe, none of that. He's seen the difficulty that Louis

:23:38. > :23:44.

:23:44. > :23:50.Smith posted and he's got to go for wins, he deserves it. That was a

:23:50. > :23:55.real routine, under pressure. Having seen Louis Smith produce

:23:55. > :24:05.that great routine, that was the Michelle they really could -- great

:24:05. > :24:15.

:24:15. > :24:20.exciting. It's a crowd-pleaser. It does look very exciting. This young

:24:20. > :24:30.man will know he has a battle on. He has to stay in tip-top condition,

:24:30. > :25:02.

:25:02. > :25:05.with a score of 15.958. Louis Smith, in the way of European gold for

:25:05. > :25:15.Louis Smith. Now he knows exactly what he needs to work on and he has

:25:15. > :25:15.

:25:15. > :25:20.That European title is proving a tough nut to crack? It is. I did my

:25:20. > :25:27.routine. You accept what has happened. You know, I worked hard

:25:27. > :25:31.for it. It's all right. UK and off, on Twitter afterwards he said that

:25:31. > :25:37.his score looked wrong and you should have four. What happened?

:25:37. > :25:42.Some of the judges said that it was a spindle element that should have

:25:42. > :25:50.been done in one circle. He did three-quarters of it in two. It's

:25:50. > :25:54.about whether it should have been a 67, rather than a 69. Then I would

:25:54. > :25:59.have been in front. Your first European final, how did you find

:25:59. > :26:04.it? I'm happy with what I've done, I upped the qualification routine.

:26:04. > :26:14.It was a lot harder and quite tiring. But I'm really happy with

:26:14. > :26:14.

:26:14. > :27:45.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 46 seconds

:27:45. > :27:53.clear difference. And there it is. adjustment. This will be very close.

:27:53. > :27:58.Pace on the dismount. Sujit at the body strength. -- huge upper body

:27:58. > :28:05.strength. Look at the arms. That is what it is all about. Relatively

:28:05. > :28:15.small body, so that you can hold it straight like that. He makes it

:28:15. > :28:34.

:28:34. > :28:44.highest qualifier. They say every 10th counts. He's going for 6.7 on

:28:44. > :29:08.

:29:08. > :29:18.difficulty. Just down by one on double front combination. This is a

:29:18. > :29:18.

:29:18. > :30:00.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 46 seconds

:30:00. > :30:06.routine. Just a tiny error in swing. Neither one predominant. A

:30:06. > :30:11.young gymnast, really showing good technique. The Russian gymnasts are

:30:11. > :30:21.always very good, technically. They never rush their work. They teach

:30:21. > :30:29.

:30:30. > :30:39.every skill methodically. That was position at the moment with 15.666.

:30:40. > :30:49.One more gymnast to go. The youngest member of this final, 19.

:30:50. > :30:52.

:30:52. > :31:02.He is also in the vault final next. Gosh, a gymnast for the future. At

:31:02. > :31:20.

:31:20. > :31:30.19, plenty strong enough now. That them a tiny bit higher. -- feet a

:31:30. > :31:30.

:31:30. > :31:40.little low. Lovely technique on the swinging elements, just soft in the

:31:40. > :31:41.

:31:41. > :31:47.bark a tiny bit. Nothing disastrous. Nailed the landing. This is a tough

:31:47. > :31:56.competition to get into the top three but that was a good effort.

:31:56. > :32:05.Let's have a look at this. He stops in the exact position, very, very

:32:05. > :32:15.nice work. Very impressive. Double twist, double straight, a tiny

:32:15. > :32:22.

:32:22. > :32:32.adjustment to the side. Denis Ablyazin takes a bronze, a score of

:32:32. > :32:33.

:32:33. > :32:43.15.453. The Italian has been such a strong force in the world of rings

:32:43. > :32:55.

:32:55. > :33:01.Flavius Koczi starts things off, the former silver medallist. This

:33:01. > :33:11.could be a medal for Kristian Thomas. Let's see how the British

:33:11. > :33:13.

:33:13. > :33:18.What are you looking to do in the final? I need to stick both of them,

:33:18. > :33:22.or at least one of them. I just need the chance to make the top

:33:22. > :33:27.three. Do you think you are thriving in this environment, with

:33:27. > :33:33.the whole team lifting each other? It is definitely a good environment

:33:33. > :33:41.because seeing your team-mate doing well pushes you one, and you see

:33:41. > :33:45.each other as a learning curve to move on to bigger and better things.

:33:45. > :33:51.As you can imagine, it is a good training environment to be in,

:33:51. > :34:01.especially when we have a good championships so we use it to our

:34:01. > :34:03.

:34:04. > :34:11.advantage, definitely. Gymnasts will get two vaults. A triple twist.

:34:11. > :34:14.Amazing awareness in the air. forming his favoured vault first.

:34:14. > :34:24.forming his favoured vault first. Makes a half-turn, then three twist

:34:24. > :34:44.

:34:44. > :34:54.vaults. The difficulty of the last one was the seven. Absolutely

:34:54. > :35:04.superbly. Under control. Was it 2.5 twists? It was. A handspring on

:35:04. > :35:09.

:35:09. > :35:19.with 2.5 twist off. Goes on straight, then wraps that -- the

:35:19. > :35:22.

:35:22. > :35:32.twists off. He is so good at twisting. Panteleymonov, for Great

:35:32. > :35:33.

:35:33. > :35:37.Britain. Cracking vaulting yesterday to help Great Britain win

:35:37. > :35:43.the gold medal for the team. push, and the heart to her nicely

:35:43. > :35:52.done, kicked out. He made two rotations then kicked it out

:35:52. > :36:02.through the hips. That was massive. Not only did it have height, it had

:36:02. > :36:07.tremendous length as well. Kicks and turns, a little hop, a tiny

:36:07. > :36:17.deviation from the straight line but he got so tight in the tuck

:36:17. > :36:37.

:36:37. > :36:44.qualification. I guess it will be something involving 2.5 turns so he

:36:44. > :36:52.has got to know where he is on the last turn. A good effort, but quite

:36:52. > :37:02.a hop sideways. He has had a good final, good steady vaulting. Twice

:37:02. > :37:07.he has produced it. A turn on there, too 0.5 twists. He is almost at the

:37:07. > :37:17.end of the landing surface. Split legs, that will be a deduction from

:37:17. > :37:35.

:37:35. > :37:41.next to go, qualified fourth. The British vault champion. I think you

:37:41. > :37:49.can see why... And he fell over writer at the end. A very difficult

:37:49. > :37:54.vault, heat over rotated. You are squeezing to get it round, and just

:37:54. > :38:00.pulled a little too hard. Slightly undercooked it yesterday, make sure

:38:00. > :38:08.today that he had plenty of height and time in the air. He looked like

:38:08. > :38:14.he was home and dry. He gets a wonderful plant and a lovely lift

:38:14. > :38:24.off the top but he landed with his hips behind his feet, and it is

:38:24. > :38:43.

:38:43. > :38:52.here, 6.6 difficulty. Come spring double front. Dead centre down

:38:53. > :38:59.there. That is a good repertoire of vaulting. I think this bodes very

:38:59. > :39:06.well for an Olympic final. If in the next few weeks he can get the

:39:06. > :39:16.half turnout on that, and he certainly has the air time for the

:39:16. > :39:23.

:39:23. > :39:29.extra half-turn, and that will give him two seven vaults. He is fifth,

:39:29. > :39:35.a great effort from Kristian Thomas. Denis Ablyazin, the current Russian

:39:35. > :39:43.vault champion. This is his third apparatus final. Been all over the

:39:43. > :39:49.arena. Just needs settle down. explode off the top of this

:39:49. > :39:57.platform, and he does. There is the double pike, and lovely straight

:39:57. > :40:07.legs. Height, length, that has it all. Beautiful in the air,

:40:07. > :40:12.

:40:13. > :40:18.absolutely. Only down a tiny bit, but in the air he looked great.

:40:18. > :40:25.you thought that was hard, wait until you see his next vault, the

:40:25. > :40:32.7.2 difficulty. So, the most difficult vault we have seen in

:40:32. > :40:40.this championships. Fantastic. The round off, there have turned on,

:40:40. > :40:46.handspring up in the air, 2.5 twists. Really complicated vaulting.

:40:46. > :40:52.Left at the angle in the shoulders, he did well to get that up. He made

:40:52. > :41:02.sure he got it round. He did get it round, yes. It is not good enough

:41:02. > :41:05.

:41:05. > :41:12.for gold. He can't understand it. The last gymnast in this vault

:41:12. > :41:18.final. He is a replacement but he did get gold at the London Olympic

:41:18. > :41:28.test event earlier this year, and he has too much grow very difficult

:41:28. > :41:35.

:41:35. > :41:41.vaults. -- two difficult vaults. sees the floor lovely and early.

:41:41. > :41:51.Make sure of the double tuck, use the momentum, kick out and spot the

:41:51. > :41:52.

:41:52. > :41:59.landing. Flavius Koczi has led from the start. If he can keep their

:41:59. > :42:08.consistency, he will take gold from the Romanian. Remember, it is an

:42:08. > :42:15.average of the two vaults. Why on explosive element. And he did very

:42:15. > :42:20.well to hold on to that. Whether those big steps will be too costly

:42:20. > :42:30.for a gold, but that was super vaulting. If he wants their bronze,

:42:30. > :42:45.

:42:45. > :42:55.got himself a silver. That is in a class of its own, it deserved -

:42:55. > :43:02.just for the sheer height and technical ability, that deserved it.

:43:02. > :43:12.Look at this. Rocketing up,. His toes on the first, that had very

:43:12. > :43:13.

:43:13. > :43:19.special flight. The reaction at the end - terrific. you really need to

:43:19. > :43:28.give credit to good technique, and special height and control. What do

:43:28. > :43:35.you think, Christine? They were both fabulous but you have to marry

:43:35. > :43:45.the difficulty with control. Flavius Koczi takes gold. An

:43:45. > :43:51.unbelievable performance from the Ukrainian in second place but it

:43:51. > :43:56.was not quite enough. By the time you got to that vault final, was it

:43:56. > :44:00.hard to find the energy? Yes, it is also quite mentally

:44:00. > :44:06.tough. You need to make sure you are in the right frame of mind to

:44:06. > :44:10.make sure you are safe because they are quite dangerous. I have only

:44:10. > :44:18.been doing it a few months so it was good preparation for the

:44:18. > :44:28.Olympics to be doing it today, and I get more of a field, so it is all

:44:28. > :44:48.

:44:48. > :44:58.Just 18 years old, but he has the second hardest routine in this

:44:58. > :45:34.

:45:34. > :45:39.always technically great. Very comfortable on a single handle.

:45:39. > :45:43.Super height from the parallel bars. That was an excellent routine.

:45:43. > :45:49.is the routine to beat. There was a slight flex in the elbows, but

:45:49. > :45:55.apart from that... Where do you take off marks? Very nice. He kicks

:45:55. > :46:01.out from that deep fold. Very quickly through the somersault.

:46:02. > :46:08.Good technique, straight shape, pike shape. On to one rail with a

:46:08. > :46:12.handstand. Very well done. A tough move. It is the lead, it is the

:46:12. > :46:22.question of who is going to challenge afterwards. But he is

:46:22. > :46:44.

:46:44. > :46:54.times. He is in a class of his own. He faded a little bit, but look at

:46:54. > :47:15.

:47:15. > :47:20.and straight adjusting the shape. This is great. He is swinging

:47:20. > :47:25.continuously. A little bit low and they hop forward, but that is

:47:25. > :47:35.lovely to watch. What a flowing routine. Interesting to see what he

:47:35. > :47:36.

:47:36. > :47:43.gets for his difficulty. Oleg Verniaiev had 6.7 and his score is

:47:43. > :47:53.15.666. He really works with the apparatus. Nothing looks a struggle.

:47:53. > :48:03.He showed his class. Straight arms, all of the time. He generates power

:48:03. > :48:04.

:48:04. > :48:14.from the apparatus. He lets the dismount, he allows it to lift him

:48:14. > :48:41.

:48:41. > :48:51.up, just back landing. At least spectacular stuff. Half turn. Look

:48:51. > :49:29.

:49:29. > :49:36.at that, a long Ms Quinn -- long shoulders, every time he catches.

:49:36. > :49:40.The legs are locked together. You can see, when he is in the hands

:49:40. > :49:48.than shape, he pushes up to get maximum height. Look at the locked

:49:48. > :49:58.position. I love this dismount. He brings it so close to the bar as

:49:58. > :49:58.

:49:58. > :50:52.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 46 seconds

:50:52. > :50:57.bars. Oleg Verniaiev takes the for Russia. 21 years old, the

:50:57. > :51:01.highest qualifiers. He is a former junior champion on a high bar and

:51:01. > :51:11.he has the highest difficulty in this final. He has amazing

:51:11. > :51:11.

:51:11. > :51:52.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 46 seconds

:51:52. > :51:58.shoulders. Fully extended on a double-double. It couldn't have

:51:58. > :52:06.gone any better than that. That was a fantastic landing. Remarkably

:52:06. > :52:11.controlled throughout, from start to finish. Total accuracy. This is

:52:11. > :52:18.the new young Russian generation. I think they are going to wow those

:52:18. > :52:24.in the future. He is technically strong. Lovely turns. You can see

:52:24. > :52:28.the head fixed between the arms, all of the time when he is working.

:52:29. > :52:38.He's got a perfect kick with the feet and he converts it

:52:38. > :52:48.magnificently. Double twist, arms out. A stable landing. No problem

:52:48. > :52:53.

:52:53. > :53:03.with that, he wasn't still twisting is going to be a tough score to

:53:03. > :53:03.

:53:03. > :53:43.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 46 seconds

:53:43. > :53:48.mixed grip as well. He is packing of the difficulty in. You can see

:53:48. > :53:58.how supple he is to be able to swing in that dislocated grip.

:53:58. > :54:09.

:54:09. > :54:15.discount? A single twist, and he under. He shifts his grip to make

:54:15. > :54:23.the heart turn. His shoulders work right around, very well done indeed.

:54:23. > :54:32.Lovely technique. Classic work. only thing you would perhaps say is

:54:32. > :54:37.that it is very much on a theme, he has shown one skill, the Tkatchav

:54:37. > :54:41.skill, and he has used it four times in different guises. That's

:54:41. > :54:51.true, but at the same time they will not punish him for that.

:54:51. > :55:03.

:55:03. > :55:13.the highest score. He's been European champion on high bar five

:55:13. > :55:27.

:55:27. > :55:37.really is very sharp. That was a Gaylord, that was done in 1984, the

:55:37. > :55:37.

:55:37. > :56:21.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 46 seconds

:56:21. > :56:24.may salvage a medal. It's unlikely, unless he gets the pace. That is

:56:24. > :56:29.what really good high bar work is about. He does the full pirouette

:56:29. > :56:35.and then he is meant to go straight over. You just feel he didn't have

:56:35. > :56:45.enough swing. He will lose the combination. He still did the move,

:56:45. > :57:09.

:57:09. > :57:12.What an incredible few days for British gymnastics. It's fair to

:57:12. > :57:17.say that you have had a lot of confidence, but you took your

:57:17. > :57:21.knocks here and there. What was the secret here? The whole team was

:57:21. > :57:25.completely focused. We have dealt with the fact there is going to be

:57:25. > :57:29.expectation. It is getting close to London. We didn't worry about

:57:29. > :57:33.trying to win gold medals, this or that, we just wanted to do the

:57:33. > :57:39.routines clean and go home. The guys really understood that this

:57:39. > :57:46.time. What is your plan with execution and difficulty as far has

:57:46. > :57:49.the pommel horse is concerned? said, do you really want to go for

:57:49. > :57:54.the difficult routine? He said, how about going for the easier one and

:57:54. > :58:01.seeing what happened? To be fair, it was a sensible decision. I felt

:58:01. > :58:06.a bit wobbly. It was a bit tough to get through the routine. T Wise,

:58:06. > :58:13.were you allowed to celebrate? You didn't get any French

:58:13. > :58:18.champagne? We had a champagne toast. I put some lemonade in my drink. We

:58:18. > :58:22.had to focus on the finals. It's been quite successful. We wish you

:58:22. > :58:28.all the best for the preparations. Just keep everything crossed. That

:58:28. > :58:34.is it from the gymnastics. This is what else is coming up on BBC Sport.

:58:34. > :58:38.On Wednesday, a special edition of Football Focus at the start of Euro

:58:38. > :58:43.2012. Dan Walker will be in Poland. Alan Shearer catches up with Wayne
