:00:26. > :00:34.Holmes. Rebecca Adlington is bringing it

:00:34. > :00:44.home to Britain. COMMENTATOR: Great Britain get the

:00:44. > :00:45.

:00:45. > :00:55.gold medal! Kelly Holmes, what a performance! Absolutely

:00:55. > :01:00.

:01:00. > :01:07.breathtaking. Great Britain takes the Women's European Gymnastics

:01:07. > :01:12.Championships. The women will be competing for

:01:12. > :01:17.five titles in the team and four individual apparatus finals. There

:01:17. > :01:22.is no all-around competition in the year of the Olympics. This is the

:01:22. > :01:27.last major championships before London 2012. Great Britain's men

:01:27. > :01:32.and women have qualified with full teams. The women during an

:01:32. > :01:36.emotional and nail-biting scene in last year's championships in Tokyo.

:01:36. > :01:44.The captain of our women's team for the last ten years has been three

:01:44. > :01:47.time a world champion and six times a European champion, Beth Tweddle.

:01:47. > :01:53.Let's remind ourselves of how brilliant she is.

:01:53. > :02:00.COMMENTATOR: Fabulous performance from Beth Tweddle. Absolutely

:02:00. > :02:08.phenomenal. The Gold Medal has gone to Beth

:02:08. > :02:11.Tweddle. What a dismount! Beth Tweddle takes

:02:11. > :02:15.the gold. Beth, with over two months to go to

:02:15. > :02:21.the Olympics. A lot of people will be surprised to see you are not

:02:21. > :02:28.competing at the European Chips what's has been going on? I had a

:02:28. > :02:33.bit of pain in the knee, as a precaution I was scanned. He had a

:02:33. > :02:37.tear that had folded, so they had to take the decision to operate.

:02:37. > :02:41.That decision was not taken lightly, but it was the best decision with

:02:41. > :02:45.the Olympics so close. Did you see the Olympic dreams

:02:45. > :02:50.disappearing when you heard the news? I was devastated. I thought I

:02:50. > :02:53.was missing out on the Europeans and possibly the Olympics, but they

:02:53. > :03:01.assured me it was fairly straightforward and I would be back

:03:02. > :03:05.in a day or two. So far it is going well. I am on the bars and I've

:03:05. > :03:09.started jogging. It will is good news, obviously it is hard to watch

:03:09. > :03:14.the team. What is it like as a spectator, you

:03:14. > :03:18.are here as a supporting role? Amanda asked me to come out and

:03:18. > :03:22.watch. I made the decision to come out here and support the girls.

:03:22. > :03:27.They would do the same for me. It is nice to be here for them.

:03:27. > :03:37.There are new faces in the team. Let's meet the girls going for a

:03:37. > :03:38.

:03:38. > :03:44.medal in Brussels. Hi, I'm Jennifer Pinchin. I am

:03:44. > :03:48.almost 18 years old from Derbyshire. Jenny is a consistent member of the

:03:48. > :03:53.team and you can rely on her for a good performance. Even though she

:03:53. > :03:58.is just 17 years of age, she's been a part of the Great Britain set up

:03:58. > :04:08.since she was nine. In some ways you could say she is is a veteran.

:04:08. > :04:13.

:04:13. > :04:19.I am TDanisha Francis. 2011 was Danisha's qualifying year.

:04:19. > :04:25.She helped us to qualify to earn us the all-important Olympics spot.

:04:25. > :04:30.She is a lively character and keeps the team's spirit up.

:04:30. > :04:35.Hi, I'm Hannah Whelan. I'm 19 years old from Chester.

:04:35. > :04:38.Hannah Whelan went to the Olympics in 2008, but was the baby of the

:04:38. > :04:43.team being just 16 years of age. Four years later, she is the team

:04:43. > :04:50.leader in Brussels. She is the most consistent member of the team and

:04:50. > :04:57.today doing all four apparatus to help the team achieve that medal.

:04:57. > :05:00.I'm Ruby Harrold, I'm 15-year-old from Churchill near Bristol.

:05:00. > :05:07.Ruby Harrold was the first person up for the team in qualification.

:05:08. > :05:14.Never an easy task, but produced a solid performance, earning her win

:05:14. > :05:21.the bar final and helping us to qualify as the team.

:05:21. > :05:27.Hi, I'm Rebecca Tunney. Rebecca Tunney trains with me. With

:05:27. > :05:33.this being her first senior debut, she has done well in qualification

:05:33. > :05:43.and scored top on vault and individual as a final and on the

:05:43. > :05:52.

:05:52. > :05:58.floor. Keep an eye out for her this summer and in Rio in 2016.

:05:58. > :06:04.So, the rotation one sees the top qualifier Romania starting on the

:06:04. > :06:12.vault. The Russians are on the beam and Great Britain are on the A bars.

:06:12. > :06:17.Three gymnasts go from each country. Every score counts.

:06:17. > :06:23.Mitch Fenner is with me. Catalina Ponor. The three-time

:06:23. > :06:26.Olympic champion in 2004. She retired, but she is back in the

:06:26. > :06:34.Romanian team and what a strong character she is.

:06:34. > :06:38.She is a great vaulter. Loaded that double twisting vault around. One

:06:38. > :06:43.of the most difficult. She make it is look easy. Watch the

:06:43. > :06:49.shoulder dip down and rolls it around. A little scruffy around the

:06:49. > :06:59.legs, but easy for her. Poking it up hard, pushing the shoulder down

:06:59. > :07:00.

:07:00. > :07:09.and keeping the twist. Catalina Ponor. The first vault for

:07:09. > :07:14.Romania with two to go. Sandra Raluca Izbasa, the current

:07:14. > :07:19.European vault champion. She really makes gymnastics look

:07:19. > :07:24.easy, doesn't she? She hits the top of the platform, rockets into the

:07:24. > :07:33.air and floats down. No bouncing around on landing.

:07:33. > :07:38.She seems to have specialised in every piece as she has gotten older.

:07:38. > :07:48.That measured approach, accelerating like a long-jumper.

:07:48. > :07:48.

:07:48. > :07:54.Look at that. High into the air. The third and final performance on

:07:54. > :07:59.the beam for Russia. This is Victoria Komova. She was silver in

:07:59. > :08:09.the world all-round. Last year it was the beam that let her down. So,

:08:09. > :08:17.will she come a cropper here on it? She recovered well. Two super lay-

:08:17. > :08:23.out somersaults. Every skill she performs well.

:08:23. > :08:27.The Arabian somersault. She is so secure in her work. Two lovely

:08:27. > :08:32.jumps. It does not matter how well you perform the skill. It is how

:08:32. > :08:38.you finish. Here comes the spin. As I said it, that is what she did not

:08:38. > :08:43.do. She did not hold the finishing position.

:08:44. > :08:49.Recovered well. She has lost a little bit of

:08:49. > :08:59.confidence. Those elements should vn Lynned one after the other. --

:08:59. > :09:10.

:09:10. > :09:15.should have been linked one after double tuck and a super landing.

:09:15. > :09:21.That was a fighting performance. It was, but you don't want to see

:09:21. > :09:31.that sort of fight. Usualally there is is a spark and ease there. It is

:09:31. > :09:31.

:09:31. > :09:37.a struggle, it seems, for Victoria Komova.

:09:37. > :09:43.Now, that was well done. Finishing in a handstand. The turn a little

:09:44. > :09:49.ugly with the legs past the low bar, but good invert action. Speeding up

:09:49. > :09:57.into the double straight dismount. Efficient bar work.

:09:57. > :10:07.She will be followed by Vanessa Ferrari.

:10:07. > :10:12.

:10:12. > :10:17.Very accurate work. Lots of swing in the trance fer.

:10:17. > :10:24.There is that turn in handstand that Chris was so impressed with.

:10:24. > :10:34.So would anybody. Fasana, the first Italian gymnast

:10:34. > :10:34.

:10:34. > :10:41.on the bars. There is Vanessa Ferrari congratulating her.

:10:42. > :10:51.18 years old. She was third on vault at the World

:10:51. > :10:54.Championships in 2009. That popped out beautifully.

:10:54. > :10:58.One-and-a-half twists. Almost overcooked it, but so light

:10:58. > :11:08.a touch. A lovely lift and style.

:11:08. > :11:11.

:11:11. > :11:16.So, Youna Dufournet, a good result. Because of Beth Tweddle, she has

:11:16. > :11:21.become known for her A bars, but the British team have been doing

:11:21. > :11:31.her proud. So, Romania lead. France are second

:11:31. > :11:34.

:11:34. > :11:44.ahead of Great Britain in third. Russia are down in fifth.

:11:44. > :11:49.

:11:49. > :11:58.So, Jennifer, Danisha and Hannah Whelan.

:11:58. > :12:08.This is a tough job for Jenny. This is her first feel of the arena. The

:12:08. > :12:29.

:12:29. > :12:33.together. It is a lot of difficulty. You have to take your eyes off the

:12:33. > :12:43.beam. Now, that is tough. She still has a

:12:43. > :12:48.

:12:48. > :12:58.lot of difficulty to go. She needs to keep her concentration.

:12:58. > :12:58.

:12:58. > :13:08.The side somersault. Fighting on that one.

:13:08. > :13:16.The change leg with half a turn. Now she's going for a big dismount.

:13:16. > :13:22.She has to build the power through the two back flips, one flip, two

:13:22. > :13:28.flips, a double pike. What a shame. A relatively easy skill for her,

:13:28. > :13:35.she did not quite set it correctly. It is amazing. She's been working

:13:35. > :13:41.so well. Such a pity, but the rest of it is impressive.

:13:41. > :13:51.Now the second of Russia's gymnasts. 17 years old.

:13:51. > :13:56.A dramatic flourish to set it up. This is vital for her team.

:13:56. > :14:01.The double tuck that skips out but under control. Lots of power

:14:01. > :14:11.through the flip. Two-and-a-half twists, a full twist that squeezes

:14:11. > :14:17.

:14:17. > :14:22.performance so far. You could see the expectation was weighing at the

:14:22. > :14:32.start. But this is very impressive. Look at that, drifting through the

:14:32. > :15:09.

:15:09. > :15:13.she going to do here? Twiple twist and bounced and lurched to one side.

:15:13. > :15:17.That will be expensive too. European champion in the all round

:15:17. > :15:26.from two years ago does her best to help Russia claw their way back up

:15:26. > :15:32.the standings. But they don't seem to be making much of an impact.

:15:32. > :15:40.Very smooth from the low bar to the high. Just a small split of the

:15:40. > :15:46.legs. Now that was good. Straight arms. Clean with that pirouette.

:15:46. > :15:51.Another high release. She's linking the skills well, isn't she? One

:15:51. > :15:54.difficulty straight into the next. That's how the difficulty builds,

:15:54. > :16:02.that's how she gets her start score up. Another pirouette, straight

:16:02. > :16:09.into a full twisting double back. Really good solid performance.

:16:09. > :16:13.liked what you saw there, you can see it again many the bars final if

:16:13. > :16:20.you lake. Always on bars you Bonn dered whether Romania would go

:16:20. > :16:28.through, but this is the sort of work that was fluid and confident -

:16:28. > :16:38.- wondered. It had that attack. Doesn't seem to be happening for

:16:38. > :16:52.

:16:52. > :17:00.Italians usually very good gymnasts on the beam. Lovely, supple work

:17:00. > :17:10.there. Takes her head right back. Free walkover. Just a pause before

:17:10. > :17:12.

:17:12. > :17:18.she goes into the backflip and layout somersault. That time, the

:17:18. > :17:24.leap linked to the tuck back. All these moves added together, the

:17:24. > :17:34.most difficult eight moves added together, to give the gymnast start

:17:34. > :17:39.

:17:39. > :17:45.value. Hi front somersault stamps it out. Just the slightest

:17:45. > :17:53.hesitation. She's setting herself up here for the dismount. A hurdle

:17:53. > :18:03.step into her roundoff double pike. Well negotiated. Youna Dufournet on

:18:03. > :18:04.

:18:04. > :18:14.the bars. French gymnast. Qualified third for the bars final. Looking

:18:14. > :18:14.

:18:14. > :18:17.to post a big score here. Very difficult skill to do this. She

:18:17. > :18:23.dragged into the hand stand a little bit. Slightly faltering on

:18:23. > :18:33.the start, but now she's picking it up beautifully. Lots of height in

:18:33. > :18:41.the transfer pack. That was clean with time. She's away now. Oh, and

:18:41. > :18:46.she's clattered into the bar. What a pity. She faltered at the start

:18:46. > :18:53.and then got it together again and then that problem. Double layer

:18:53. > :19:00.beautifully done, but what a shame. It seems all the top teams are

:19:00. > :19:07.having a blip somewhere. So maybe Great Briton's may not be too

:19:07. > :19:16.costly. -- great Britain's may not be too costly.

:19:16. > :19:21.Youna Dufournet. That is a big score with a fall. There is

:19:21. > :19:27.confirmation then that Romania are way out in the lead. A mark and a

:19:27. > :19:34.half above Italy. Let's see what Beth Tweddle thinks at the half way

:19:34. > :19:37.stage. She's with Alison Mitchell. Had a great start on the bars. It's

:19:37. > :19:41.nerve-racking, but Ruby held her own and we had a really good set.

:19:41. > :19:45.We had a couple of errors, so we are going to have to rely on others

:19:45. > :19:48.to make errors. Unfortunately, Italy are three marks ahead of us,

:19:48. > :19:53.so they've made a tough task for themselves but it's never over

:19:53. > :19:56.until the end. When you have a fall off the beam, how hard is it to get

:19:56. > :20:00.back on and complete the routine? It's hard to get back up, but at

:20:00. > :20:06.the end of the day that's what we do in draining, if you fall, you

:20:06. > :20:09.get back up and carry on. They know that it all matters. The difference

:20:09. > :20:14.between one medal could be a tenth. They know they fall once there's

:20:14. > :20:23.nothing they can do. If they get back up and prove they'll f they've

:20:23. > :20:28.still got it in them; then who knows. Aliya Mustafina. Waiting to

:20:28. > :20:36.go on vault. The Russians, they were less than a mark outside of

:20:36. > :20:41.the medals at the last rotation, so they are making a comeback.

:20:41. > :20:50.Starting to sense a little bit of fire in the belly now. A chase-in.

:20:50. > :20:54.Musmus. Can she put Russia into the medals? - Aliya Mustafina. That was

:20:54. > :21:01.a lovely vault. And the smile is back on her face. That's the way to

:21:01. > :21:11.do it! Well, this is lovely to see. If this is the gymnast who damaged

:21:11. > :21:17.

:21:17. > :21:27.her knee at the last European 15 years old. Qualified for the

:21:27. > :21:31.

:21:32. > :21:38.Brilliant qualification. But it's a big ask to do it all again second

:21:38. > :21:47.day. Watch this. Whip into double Arabian. Huge tumble. Carries a big

:21:47. > :21:57.tariff. Now she needs to be as fast as she can here. Twisting, double

:21:57. > :22:21.

:22:21. > :22:31.pike, great landing. Very acrobatic and-a-half twists cleanly up into

:22:31. > :22:47.

:22:47. > :22:52.big final tumble. The round up, flip and double pike. She has? A

:22:52. > :22:56.little skip and a lovely smile. She knows that was a great performance.

:22:56. > :22:59.Great Britain are relying on the youngsters here to keep them in

:22:59. > :23:04.contention. She's bright and confident all the way through. Give

:23:04. > :23:10.us some details, Chris? That was her second tumble for twisting

:23:10. > :23:20.double back now. Rebecca Tunney is from the great Liverpool Gymnastic

:23:20. > :23:23.

:23:23. > :23:33.Club coached by Claire Duffy and that was a lovely twist. Just when

:23:33. > :23:45.

:23:45. > :23:53.you need to assert your authority, beam. Huge difficulty start with

:23:53. > :24:02.the changed leg leap to ring, head went right back -- 2004. Superb

:24:02. > :24:08.double spin. Both those skills given D and E difficulty. Very nice

:24:08. > :24:17.half turn to walk out. Straight into the backflip and layout

:24:17. > :24:24.somersault. She moved so fast. Links the skills, she almost

:24:24. > :24:32.doesn't give the time for a wobble. Keeps moving, keeps working. Arms

:24:32. > :24:35.are fluent and beautiful. Three quarter turn into hand stand.

:24:35. > :24:45.Almost uncanny isn't it that you can have all that movement and kill

:24:45. > :24:48.

:24:48. > :24:55.it in a hand stand position? Still beautifully supple. Just when the

:24:55. > :25:00.team needed it, the gymnast before having made a fall, big dismount,

:25:00. > :25:04.double pike. What a performance for your team. You could almost bet

:25:04. > :25:07.that that is what would have happened when she finished, but

:25:07. > :25:10.absolutely remarkable performance. Such an extraordinary gymnast when

:25:10. > :25:15.you think she came back from retirement and won her place back

:25:15. > :25:24.on the team, rightly so. It was virtuoso, no doubt about it. She

:25:24. > :25:34.performed all the elements with such confidence. Lovely to see it.

:25:34. > :25:34.

:25:34. > :25:39.Catalina Ponor. Absolutely massive score. Carlotta Ferlito. Italy.

:25:39. > :25:49.This was their best piece of apparatus in qualification, so

:25:49. > :25:55.

:25:55. > :26:05.but I don't think it quite got round. I think she left her feet

:26:05. > :26:35.

:26:35. > :26:44.behind a little bit. That's a good, picked up very well after two

:26:45. > :26:54.apparatus. Double twist. This is important. Maybe a little bit early

:26:55. > :27:09.

:27:09. > :27:17.Almost buckled. Well, some errors there. How costly will they be?

:27:17. > :27:27.They were in second ahead of France. Will they stay there? Youna

:27:27. > :27:33.

:27:33. > :27:39.but steady on beam. That's such an important factor in this

:27:39. > :27:49.competition in the chase for medals. Leaving the leg behind there,

:27:49. > :28:04.

:28:04. > :28:14.the arms. And really this is what you need at this stage. You've got

:28:14. > :28:17.

:28:17. > :28:27.to stay in command and in control. She's delivering the goods. Setting

:28:27. > :28:47.

:28:47. > :28:52.almost lost it. She did so well to get hold of that at the end. Now,

:28:52. > :29:01.how costly will that dismount be? There was at least four paces?

:29:01. > :29:11.0.8 I think, yes. Not quite as much as a fall, will you -- fall, but

:29:11. > :29:24.

:29:25. > :29:29.very nearly. Now we have Britain. Only competed a sing until

:29:29. > :29:32.qualifying. Went for the big double twisting vault. First time out at a

:29:32. > :29:40.major Championships. That was fabulous from Ruby. Nothing wrong

:29:40. > :29:48.with her head then, focused. scored a 14 hadn't 566 for that

:29:48. > :29:52.vault. -- 14.566 for that vault. Catalina Ponor. They've relied on

:29:52. > :29:58.her in this Championships. It's the confidence that she exudes. Such a

:29:58. > :30:08.security blanket for the rest of the team. Starts with an amazing

:30:08. > :30:10.

:30:10. > :30:16.spin. But she's got lots of power as well. Lovely double straight.

:30:16. > :30:26.Strong powerful music. Look at that! Full and back out, back

:30:26. > :30:26.

:30:26. > :31:11.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

:31:11. > :31:16.these gymnasts. A super triple Olympic champion on the floor back

:31:16. > :31:23.in 2004. It looks like it is all still there.

:31:23. > :31:31.A great final double pike. Romania have blown us away with

:31:31. > :31:35.their gymnastics. I tell you what, roll on London 2012! Victoria

:31:35. > :31:40.Komova, from Russia. The current world champion on this

:31:40. > :31:49.piece of apparatus. The highest qualifier as well. This

:31:49. > :31:59.is the bars final. Christine said it. They would love

:32:10. > :32:13.

:32:13. > :32:18.Lots of flight and height and swing. The full turn. Beautifully done.

:32:18. > :32:23.There is a pace to this, it is control, it is measured and that is

:32:23. > :32:29.the way to finish it. What a beautiful performance.

:32:29. > :32:39.Have they done enough for silver? Can they go ahead of Italy? If the

:32:44. > :32:54.Romanians are the masters on beam, the Russians are on beam.

:32:54. > :33:03.

:33:03. > :33:13.Catalina Ponor scoring 14.733. The job now falling to Jordache.

:33:13. > :33:15.

:33:30. > :33:38.backed pike. So far, so light. She was their top junior last year.

:33:38. > :33:48.She has just moved up a gear into the senior level. A whip into the

:33:48. > :34:03.

:34:03. > :34:07.triple. There's the spin as well. Four turns in there. This has been

:34:07. > :34:11.constant movement for a minute-and- a-half.

:34:11. > :34:17.It has to be a really fit gymnast to perform like this and still have

:34:17. > :34:24.a big tumble to finish. A double tuck.

:34:24. > :34:31.Well, she posted the highest floor score in qualification. All she

:34:32. > :34:36.needs here is 14 .2 82. I think we are looking at the

:34:36. > :34:41.European champions, Mitch, don't you? Amazing, but you wonder. You

:34:41. > :34:45.have seen great performances, but how she finished.

:34:45. > :34:53.The shoulders up. Really sets it up beautifully.

:34:53. > :35:02.Up in the rafters. Lovely work. It is 15.033. Larisa Andreea

:35:02. > :35:10.Iordache has sealed for them. What a great display of beautiful

:35:10. > :35:15.gymnastics from the Romanian team. Now, if you ask me, this is

:35:15. > :35:19.pressure. Do your best to land it, you've got

:35:19. > :35:23.a medal. 17 years old. The third piece today, Carlotta

:35:23. > :35:33.Ferlito. How important this piece is. That is good enough! Look at

:35:33. > :35:43.

:35:43. > :35:53.the smile! Wonderful! A great job. 17 marks to get over Great Britain

:35:53. > :35:53.

:35:53. > :36:02.here. A very nice double tuck.

:36:02. > :36:05.A classy performance. Romania take the gold. Russia

:36:10. > :36:14.silver and Italy, after a fighting performance take the bronze. Great

:36:14. > :36:20.Britain are pushed outside of the medals in fourth, but ahead of

:36:20. > :36:26.France, Belgium get the top finish. Hannah you finished outside of the

:36:26. > :36:31.medal in fourth. Tell us how you feel about the performance? I'm a

:36:31. > :36:36.little disappointed. Mainly for my routines. I was not on form today,

:36:36. > :36:39.but I'm really proud of everyone. As I say, we have all work sod hard.

:36:39. > :36:44.It is a shame, but this makes us stronger.

:36:44. > :36:48.Jenny, when there are mistakes are you relying on other countries to

:36:48. > :36:53.slip up to stay in the medal hopes? Obviously we can do our job and

:36:53. > :36:58.focus on what we are doing. Everyone is going to do their best.

:36:58. > :37:03.We are all concentrating on our routines. Not on what has gone on

:37:03. > :37:07.before them. My performance does affect the team, so I feel

:37:07. > :37:11.responsible. There is no point feeling regrets. We know we can up

:37:11. > :37:16.our game. That makes us so exciting to watch. Anything can happen on

:37:16. > :37:20.the day. Fourth is still an achievement to be proud of for our

:37:20. > :37:25.team. It is a great experience for the Olympics.

:37:25. > :37:31.Ruby Harrold, you were first up on the bar, you must have been pleased

:37:31. > :37:35.with the performance? Yes, I was pleased. A little slip-up.

:37:35. > :37:43.How do you feel about going into the final on the bars? It is great.

:37:43. > :37:50.I know that I can learn from my mistakes and do a good job tomorrow.

:37:50. > :37:57.Danusia Francis, you have done a good job today? Yes. I'm really

:37:57. > :38:04.happy with myself and the team. Is there a disappointment to have

:38:04. > :38:08.missed out on the medals having qualified there? A little bit of a

:38:08. > :38:12.disappointment but I'm really proud of us.

:38:12. > :38:16.Rebecca, how about you, the first senior champions.

:38:17. > :38:21.Yeah, it is a really great experience. A little disappointed

:38:21. > :38:29.to be out of the medals, but happens. We have a big future ahead

:38:29. > :38:33.of us. It should be great. First of all, Beth how was that

:38:33. > :38:37.watching from the stands? It was so hard. When you are on the floor you

:38:37. > :38:42.can put a little control on what is going on. If people are getting too

:38:42. > :38:46.ahead of themselves you can calm them down, if they are having a

:38:46. > :38:51.hard time, you can gee them up again. Obviously there is only so

:38:51. > :38:56.much I can do from the audience. What was the impression of the

:38:56. > :39:00.girls, what they did? Obviously they did really well. They had a

:39:00. > :39:04.few problems, but they did not let their chins down. To finish fourth

:39:04. > :39:10.with the errors is still an amazing achievement.

:39:11. > :39:14.How well did Rebecca and Ruby do? Great. They are two 15-year-olds,

:39:14. > :39:19.shoved into the limelight. Obviously they are both nervous,

:39:19. > :39:24.but they held their own. They were out there to compete.

:39:24. > :39:27.And those scores! They just wanted to prove themselves. It is a big

:39:28. > :39:33.year for them. They want to show that they can be there with the

:39:33. > :39:38.rest of the seniors. What do the next couple of months

:39:38. > :39:43.hold for the girls? The next couple of months are difficult. We have

:39:43. > :39:48.trial after trial and then the team is announced on the 4th of July. So

:39:48. > :39:52.the first trial is next sat. There is not a lot of time finishing here

:39:52. > :39:57.for their minds to go down and then pick themselves up again. It is

:39:57. > :40:03.difficult at a major championships. You are giddy and high, you need a

:40:03. > :40:09.couple of days to come down. Then they have to pick themselves up.

:40:09. > :40:13.And Romania, they were outstanding, but Russia? The competition today

:40:13. > :40:17.was a lot closer than what we expected. It is great to see that

:40:17. > :40:22.Romania are back up there. Two years ago we managed to beat them

:40:22. > :40:29.into the silver position. But they have upped their game.

:40:29. > :40:36.They want that Olympic title and want to be in the pod yums with

:40:37. > :40:42.medals. Beth, you have been injured how do

:40:42. > :40:48.you feel? It is not easy. You are training very hard. Sometimes my

:40:48. > :40:52.coach is motivating me. If I am thinking myself why am I doing this,

:40:52. > :40:58.I remember the days when I was today stood on the podium. It is

:40:58. > :41:03.the most aphasing feelings. That is what gets you out of bed.

:41:03. > :41:08.Now, it is time to turn our attention to the apparatus finals,

:41:08. > :41:18.here in Brussels. The highest qualifier for the vault

:41:18. > :41:21.

:41:21. > :41:28.final was the remarkable Shi v -- Oksana Chusovitina.

:41:28. > :41:38.COMMENTATOR: Here is Oksana Chusovitina for the team...

:41:38. > :41:39.

:41:39. > :41:43.COMMENTATOR: A double twisting. Oksana Chusovitina.

:41:43. > :41:49.COMMENTATOR: Oksana Chusovitina is looking for another Olympic medal.

:41:49. > :41:59.COMMENTATOR: Here she goes, look at the power. Whack! One-and-a-half

:41:59. > :41:59.

:41:59. > :42:05.twists. COMMENTATOR: Look at that. An

:42:05. > :42:09.ambassador for the sport. So, the start list of the vaulters.

:42:09. > :42:19.Defending her title is Sandra Raluca Izbasa. She will do her best

:42:19. > :42:34.

:42:34. > :42:40.three of the finals today. Nicely landed. She will be happy

:42:40. > :42:45.with that opening vault. For a 6 .3 difficulty she made it

:42:45. > :42:49.look easy. It is so important to get a good

:42:49. > :42:56.secure vault. If it is typical, into the locker.

:42:56. > :43:03.Look at that lots of pop from the top of the horse.

:43:03. > :43:07.I don't think she did the complete vault. The double twisting is only

:43:07. > :43:11.a 5.8. This has to go on differently this

:43:11. > :43:18.time. She turns on the side. A lovely vault.

:43:18. > :43:21.The round-off. A pike somersault with the half turn off.

:43:22. > :43:29.A good, hard plank. Slightly to the side.

:43:29. > :43:36.So, 14 scored. The second vault gives her an average of 14 .2 66.

:43:36. > :43:44.Sandra Raluca Izbasa. The current European Vaulting

:43:44. > :43:49.Champion. The current Olympic Floor Champion.

:43:49. > :43:54.There she is. She made the half turn. That was very good.

:43:54. > :43:59.It is a difficult vault to land. She seemed a little short.

:43:59. > :44:04.A difficult but beautiful style. She turns on. So she makes the

:44:04. > :44:14.round-off. She turns on, half turn on, straight from a somersault with

:44:14. > :44:17.

:44:17. > :44:26.full twist. Really complex. You have to be really aware spairbally.

:44:26. > :44:30.-- spacially. That, so much energy! Nice and

:44:30. > :44:37.clean. It is amazing how she has

:44:37. > :44:42.specialised as she has gotten older. Hits, lifts, two twists, legs

:44:42. > :44:48.locked together dead centre. That was lovely vaulting. I would have

:44:48. > :44:53.thought she might squeeze the extra half twist in by the Olympics. That

:44:53. > :44:59.would make her competitive with the best vaulters in the world.

:44:59. > :45:08.So, 14.49. Is it close? It is. That's the average.

:45:08. > :45:18.She scored 14.866. Now, Oksana Chusovitina.

:45:18. > :45:25.

:45:25. > :45:33.A gymnast more than keen to make for gold here. Such a difficult

:45:33. > :45:39.vault. Explodes off. The hand spring straights up, somersault

:45:39. > :45:44.with heavy twist was heavily piked down but very well completed.

:45:44. > :45:54.She really had to work to get that round. Pulled it in tight. She

:45:54. > :46:01.

:46:01. > :46:11.really has to work. Running out of this stage. Another determined

:46:11. > :46:12.

:46:12. > :46:15.approach. This time she turns on. One-and-a-half twists off. Powerful

:46:15. > :46:20.vaulting. No trouble at all finding her way round through the twists

:46:20. > :46:28.and lands very much upright. A very good vault indeed. One-and-a-half

:46:28. > :46:38.twists, made to look very, very easy. Has she done enough to go

:46:38. > :46:39.

:46:39. > :46:44.ahead? She hasn't. It's silver. Valeriia Maksiuta competing for

:46:45. > :46:53.Israel. Another purposeful run. Nice and high in the double twist.

:46:53. > :46:58.Just lost the legs a little bit. The judges have a big deduction for

:46:58. > :47:08.the chest being down on landing. Her feet come down and her chest is

:47:08. > :47:11.

:47:12. > :47:16.pointing to the ploor. -- floor. Vault number two. And she really

:47:16. > :47:24.was late getting that twist in. A little bit flat off the top of the

:47:24. > :47:28.horse there. She did so well. lovely lift off the top. She hits,

:47:28. > :47:35.lifts and waits and whips in the twist. Good job she did get the

:47:35. > :47:44.feet down, because if they don't go first, it's a zero. An average

:47:44. > :47:48.score there of 14.57 puts Maksiuta into third at the moment. -- 14.5.

:47:48. > :47:58.Giulia Steingruber finishes off this vault final. She qualified

:47:58. > :48:00.

:48:00. > :48:07.third. Can't write this young lady off. Look at that. Plenty of

:48:07. > :48:13.rotation. Too much in fact. That will be quite costly. Five to eight

:48:13. > :48:19.tenths possibly. She's put up for a tariff of 6-3, which is the

:48:19. > :48:23.straight front somersault with the one-and-a-half twist. Her legs were

:48:23. > :48:29.quite piked. That's the highest score we've seen so far. So

:48:29. > :48:37.Steingruber I think going for a 56.2 so needs the execution here.

:48:37. > :48:43.So important that this is almost perfect. That'll do I think. Not

:48:43. > :48:50.difficult. Just the single twist. Most people pike in and kick out

:48:50. > :48:53.straight to make the twists, but she was piked all the way there.

:48:54. > :48:58.She turns on and then makes the full twist off. I think they'll

:48:58. > :49:08.give it as a straight full twist but it will be heavily deductible.

:49:08. > :49:09.

:49:09. > :49:19.The pike is quite simply a bend in the body. She's in third. There is

:49:19. > :49:37.

:49:37. > :49:40.a European champion, Sandra Isb - Beth, you must be having mixed

:49:40. > :49:44.emotions at the moment because you are about to see your European

:49:44. > :49:49.title go to somebody else and there's nothing you can do about

:49:49. > :49:53.it? It's quite difficult. I brought a new routine out this year and was

:49:53. > :49:58.looking forward to doing that, but it was not meant to be and I'll

:49:58. > :50:02.have to save it for the summer. different is your routine? Skill-

:50:02. > :50:09.wise it hasn't changed much. I put a difficult dismount in. What do

:50:09. > :50:14.you mean the difficult dismount?! normally do a do believe somersault

:50:14. > :50:19.but now I have a double somersault with two twists, it's taken me a

:50:19. > :50:24.while to get it into my routine. Has that had anything to do with

:50:24. > :50:29.your injury? They don't think so. I've only recently being doing the

:50:29. > :50:34.dismount. We have Komova going in this. Do you think she's the

:50:34. > :50:41.favourite? Yes, but you have also got Dufournet who has the potential

:50:41. > :50:47.to be up there. And Grishina, the new up and coming Russian. She'll

:50:47. > :50:51.be there to challenge Komova. Ruby Harrold from Great Britain is

:50:51. > :50:56.just outside the medal contention? She's got the difficulty similar to

:50:56. > :51:01.some of the top ones, so if she can go clean and steady, she has the

:51:01. > :51:06.chance to go in for a medal. are going to be talking us through

:51:06. > :51:10.some of these routines so let's see who else is competing in the final.

:51:10. > :51:18.Victoria Komova, world champion, Ruby Harrold will be going seventh

:51:18. > :51:25.as well. But don't rule out Youna Dufournet either. And Grishina.

:51:25. > :51:32.Youna Dufournet, eighth in the World Championships last year. The

:51:32. > :51:38.third highest qualifier here. Dufournet has a huge bar routine

:51:38. > :51:44.capable of great things but also mistakes. There, the forward

:51:44. > :51:49.element she has to have in. Straight up into this pirouette and

:51:49. > :51:55.that's so typical. Goes for broke. Wrong way on the full pirouette up

:51:55. > :52:01.into the beautiful move, slowly down to the low bar, smoothly up to

:52:01. > :52:11.the high bar. Moving from one to the other with ease. Now watch for

:52:11. > :52:12.

:52:12. > :52:16.this. That was smoothly done. Really winds up well and the lovely

:52:16. > :52:20.double straight really holds the shape right to the end. Beth, you

:52:20. > :52:24.reacted to that before it happened, you could see that coming. What

:52:24. > :52:28.went wrong? You can see and she'll know when she's doing the turn that

:52:28. > :52:31.it wasn't quite right, but she was going for broke, she knew she had

:52:31. > :52:35.one of the most difficult routines and if it hit perfectly, she could

:52:35. > :52:41.walk away with the title. I would have played a bit more safe and

:52:41. > :52:45.maybe just gone to go over the bar, especially because the last two

:52:45. > :52:55.competitions she hasn't been able to go from beginning to end without

:52:55. > :53:04.

:53:04. > :53:08.a mistake. Victoria Komova, current world bars champion. Silver

:53:08. > :53:12.medallist. She's the gymnast with lots of time on the apparatus.

:53:12. > :53:18.Lovely lift to the high bar, back to the low. She seems to be able to

:53:18. > :53:23.give herself that extra bit of time. Look how she floated. See the hand

:53:23. > :53:28.stand. No doubt that was a hand stand. She balanced there. Lots of

:53:28. > :53:36.time in the air on the front somersault. Every hand stand peaked.

:53:36. > :53:44.Of course, a bit of a split of the legs. And just a little loose there

:53:44. > :53:50.with the feet. Giving a few tenths away. Each time past the low bar.

:53:50. > :53:53.But a huge dismount and really the first part of that routine was

:53:53. > :53:56.pretty faultless. Amazing. She had a slight loss of leg form half way

:53:57. > :54:00.through but the hand stands were pretty much holding and balancing,

:54:00. > :54:06.which is what the judges areliking for. Especially when you have

:54:06. > :54:16.someone of Komova's class and style. She's got flight in the releases,

:54:16. > :54:31.

:54:31. > :54:41.Quick hand stand quickly into the pirouette. Made the link well. Low

:54:41. > :54:42.

:54:42. > :54:50.bar. Back up to the high bar. Split of the legs. Low back swing. But

:54:50. > :54:57.she's moving well. Front somersault. Very difficult combination. Really

:54:57. > :55:01.swinging well here. Lovely double back. What a shame that she took

:55:01. > :55:06.the second step. She spotted a possible opening on the medal

:55:06. > :55:10.podium and went for it, Beth? release had an arm length. Her

:55:10. > :55:14.coach was really happy with that. She made bar final a couple of

:55:14. > :55:21.years ago with me in Brum and she medalled there, so she knows what

:55:21. > :55:27.it's like to be in the final. gone into second place. Look at the

:55:27. > :55:33.difficulty, 6.7. Well, two gymnasts to go. The penultimate is Ruby

:55:33. > :55:40.Harrold from Great Britain. 15 years old. First year of senior

:55:40. > :55:47.Euros. Her coach moving the board, hops into a huge yaeger somersault,

:55:47. > :55:50.lots of energy. Here we have the full pirouette. Down to the low bar.

:55:50. > :55:56.This is her original combination. Up to the high bar and back to the

:55:56. > :56:00.low bar with the full turn. Well negotiated. Very difficult. Now she

:56:00. > :56:07.has to make another half turn. She's made it. Really swinging well.

:56:07. > :56:15.Important she makes this next half turn. Oh, Ruby! Wow, she went for

:56:15. > :56:20.the dismount but she will have lost a bit of form at the top there.

:56:20. > :56:23.Beth was living every single inch of that routine! That was hard to

:56:23. > :56:27.watch because I'm normally stood next to the bars cheering her along

:56:27. > :56:33.and I was worried that I was going to blurt something out so I had to

:56:33. > :56:38.move the mic away. This next combination, straict into the turn

:56:38. > :56:42.which I don't think many of the girls are doing this. That is the

:56:42. > :56:46.one bit that sometimes she struggles with in training --

:56:46. > :56:49.straight into the turn. Nice straight arms here. You can see the

:56:49. > :56:54.concentration in her eyes. The whole time she'll beliking at that

:56:54. > :56:57.bar so she can see exactly where she's going. Unfortunately, this

:56:57. > :57:01.where it slightly went. The fact she was able to go straight into

:57:01. > :57:07.the dismount shows how well she knows the dismount. In your absence,

:57:07. > :57:14.she did Britain proud on the bars? Oh, she did, yes. Look at that

:57:14. > :57:18.score! Ruby Harrold in sixth. The last gymnast to go, Anastasia

:57:18. > :57:22.Grishina. The second highest qualifier. What is going to happen

:57:22. > :57:28.to the medals after this? Competition right to the end. They

:57:28. > :57:35.are all watching nervously. Lovely hand stand start. With the half

:57:35. > :57:39.turn, the big high jaeger somersault piked. The trademark of

:57:40. > :57:49.hitting the hand stand. The pike catcher, very difficult. Straight

:57:50. > :57:51.

:57:51. > :57:54.into the next move. All the moves have their own tariff. Very clean.

:57:54. > :57:58.Straight into the twisting double back. She's not giving much away

:57:58. > :58:01.there. That was speedy as well and powerful. She certainly meant

:58:01. > :58:06.business there, Beth? Komova will be watching anxiously with that.

:58:06. > :58:10.There's the stoop half, straight into the pike, the jaeger,

:58:10. > :58:14.everything was high. You can see the coach sets in just in case.

:58:14. > :58:18.There's the pike catch, slightly close on landing so she has to bend

:58:18. > :58:23.the arms into the pack. But because she's so confident, she is still

:58:23. > :58:33.able to go. The thumbs are round the bar to make sure she's got hold

:58:33. > :58:33.

:58:33. > :58:43.of the bar. Straight into the release and catch. Straight into

:58:43. > :58:47.

:58:47. > :58:51.the dismount. Perfect landing. Grishina has got silver. There's

:58:51. > :59:01.the European champion. In the absence of Great Britain's Beth

:59:01. > :59:01.

:59:01. > :59:05.Tweddle, Komova is victorious here. She takes gold. Ruby Harrold for

:59:05. > :59:11.Great Britain in sevenths. Do you think you have shown that you are

:59:11. > :59:15.worthy of a place in the senior team as a full-timer? I feel so,

:59:15. > :59:19.yes. Did your original skill in that bars routine, the skill which

:59:19. > :59:22.you have made up yourself, talk us through what that one is? I don't

:59:22. > :59:26.think it's a skill that's my skill, but it's a somersault in-between

:59:26. > :59:30.the two bars with a full turn. you pleased that came off in the

:59:30. > :59:34.final in front of a crowd like this under pressure? Definitely, yes.

:59:34. > :59:37.What are your aims and ambitions from here having had the

:59:37. > :59:41.experiences of a senior Championships and made the fuenl?

:59:41. > :59:51.Having this experience is amazing, hopefully it proves to the coaches

:59:51. > :59:52.

:59:52. > :00:02.that maybe I can deliver and go further.

:00:02. > :00:07.

:00:07. > :00:12.Hannah Whelan has stepped up to the plate as the captain of the British

:00:12. > :00:17.team in the absence of Beth Tweddle. Alison caught up with her ahead of

:00:17. > :00:24.the final. You are in two finals, the beam and

:00:24. > :00:32.the floor, how do you assess your chances? The beam, I should go well,

:00:32. > :00:37.and hopefully place a little bit higher than before. The floor is a

:00:37. > :00:43.little unexpected. I was contraiting on the beam final. So I

:00:43. > :00:49.will just look towards to get a good place.

:00:49. > :00:52.Are you nervous on the beam? I was at the that time. I have been

:00:52. > :00:56.working so hard. I was concentrating on getting to the

:00:57. > :01:01.final, but it has paid off. How do you manage to block out

:01:01. > :01:05.everything else is going on in the gymnastic hall with concentration

:01:05. > :01:11.you need? I'm in the sure. I've been competing for years and years.

:01:12. > :01:18.I can hear the girls' voices, the little things that they say. I hear

:01:18. > :01:22.the voice in my head. Is it conscious to be hearing the

:01:22. > :01:27.girls? It is great to know that they have my back and are assuring

:01:27. > :01:32.me. How tight is the Olympics for plat -- for the places? The team is

:01:32. > :01:37.announced in July, there are only five spots up for grabs? It is a

:01:37. > :01:41.good thing. Yes, it makes had hard for every torch get on the team,

:01:41. > :01:46.but it shows how good Great Britain are.

:01:46. > :01:56.This is Larisa Andreea Iordache from Romania, the highest qualifier.

:01:56. > :01:56.

:01:56. > :02:06.This is her first senior European Championships.

:02:06. > :02:08.

:02:08. > :02:14.Larisa Andreea Iordache had the highest difficulty in qualification.

:02:14. > :02:20.This is the important thing, this element, the tuck back. She did

:02:20. > :02:30.well. A double spin with a little wobble. Those are two very

:02:30. > :02:34.

:02:34. > :02:39.difficult elements under her belt. A big pie leap with a half-turn.

:02:39. > :02:45.She's missed the link. A little stop there to add a bit of dance.

:02:45. > :02:49.She did not make the link into the back flip. Front somersault into

:02:49. > :02:55.the tuck-back. Very positive in her movements.

:02:55. > :03:05.Sharp in the dancework. But she does look a little bit

:03:05. > :03:05.

:03:05. > :03:11.jittery. We've come to expect almost

:03:11. > :03:17.mechanical execution. Today she looks just a little bit human.

:03:17. > :03:22.Very strong work. Lots of difficulty. Here the big dismount.

:03:22. > :03:29.A triple lift into a round-off. That was fantastic.

:03:29. > :03:34.A triple twist all the way around. Lovely work.

:03:34. > :03:44.This is incredible. You can forgive her that wobble. Such a move to

:03:44. > :03:45.

:03:45. > :03:53.full twist so. Many come to grief on that.

:03:53. > :04:03.That is a little down on the qualification, but still one of the

:04:03. > :04:04.

:04:04. > :04:14.highest scores. Nataliya Konenko.

:04:14. > :04:19.

:04:19. > :04:29.She has the presence. Very solid.

:04:29. > :04:30.

:04:30. > :04:40.Excellent. This is great stuff. The Arabian.

:04:40. > :05:06.

:05:06. > :05:16.She won it. Her rating is so difficult.

:05:16. > :05:25.

:05:25. > :05:32.Almost away. The nerves have not gone away.

:05:32. > :05:36.Two flicks oh, and a double Arabian that did not pay off. A whole

:05:36. > :05:42.mark's deduction right at the end, but she was unsettled all the way

:05:42. > :05:47.through. She was on but just did not follow

:05:47. > :05:54.the rules and put the arms positively in the right place.

:05:54. > :05:59.Maybe she had started to think about the big dismount. It is a big

:06:00. > :06:09.dismount. Here we go, one, two, up, half turn,

:06:10. > :06:12.

:06:12. > :06:17.double front. That is massive. Two marks behind Larisa Andreea

:06:17. > :06:21.Iordache. How well the British all-round

:06:21. > :06:27.champion now to this final. Well, Hannah has been the absolute

:06:27. > :06:37.rock of the British team. A lovely free walkover into the

:06:37. > :06:44.

:06:44. > :06:52.change. Into the half turn. Well connected so far.

:06:52. > :06:58.This is the important series. A free cartwheel into the layout.

:06:58. > :07:05.Very well performed. She has work every apparatus in both

:07:05. > :07:10.qualification and team final. Now this is important.

:07:10. > :07:15.She had to stop at one-and-a-half. She will not quite get the

:07:15. > :07:23.difficulty in qualification. In qualification she made it around

:07:23. > :07:29.smoothly. She is a very elegant gymnast.

:07:29. > :07:39.A lovely leap. We saw the landing. We have to hope it was good at the

:07:39. > :07:54.

:07:54. > :08:04.her feet and lift into the turn. That stops the rot.

:08:04. > :08:04.

:08:04. > :08:14.A tiny little adjustment there. What does the future hold for

:08:14. > :08:32.

:08:32. > :08:37.Hannah Whelan? 14 .3 33. of 14 .3 33 in silver medal

:08:37. > :08:47.position. Very focused. A lovely round-off. A straight somersault.

:08:47. > :08:53.You can see the focus in the eyes. That was a change leg to ring. Half

:08:53. > :09:03.turn, walkover, leg up into the side... Oh! Into the side

:09:03. > :09:13.somersault. She went for the connection but just off-line. Now...

:09:13. > :09:14.

:09:14. > :09:24.She needs to settle herself. Such style, you know she never

:09:24. > :09:25.

:09:25. > :09:35.moves without every toe pointed. Full extension.

:09:35. > :09:39.

:09:39. > :09:43.A free walkover, into the back flip. She has not given in. A big

:09:43. > :09:48.dismount and double pike. A little pace forward. It may have had a

:09:48. > :09:51.fall, but there was a lot of good work as well.

:09:51. > :10:01.You really thought nothing was going to go wrong all the way

:10:01. > :10:01.

:10:01. > :10:59.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

:10:59. > :11:09.through. Big control, then this. Hips nice and square.

:11:09. > :11:14.

:11:14. > :11:24.She is absolutely determined here. The first wobble... A little bit

:11:24. > :11:37.

:11:37. > :11:44.nervous but that was good, such control here.

:11:44. > :11:48.Finishes with a double pike. A pace forward. She did have an

:11:48. > :11:52.opportunity there. She could stamp her authority, her control on the

:11:52. > :11:56.apparatus, but she started off nerve accountsly.

:11:56. > :12:02.This was a fabulous performance. She takes the head back. You lose

:12:02. > :12:08.siergt of the beam and have to recover yourself. -- you lose sight

:12:08. > :12:13.of the beam but she recovers herself. What an element of variety

:12:13. > :12:19.she showed us. Romania are happy.

:12:19. > :12:23.Indeed, but which way will it go. There is conformation that Catalina

:12:23. > :12:32.Ponor takes the gold ahead of her team-mate. What about that, Hannah

:12:32. > :12:39.Whelan is taking a bronze! Hannah Whelan steps up on to the medal

:12:39. > :12:49.podium. With a beaming smile and rightly so.

:12:49. > :13:04.

:13:04. > :13:09.Catalina Ponor, the European champion and silver going to her

:13:09. > :13:14.team-mate. Now, Rebecca Tunney in the floor

:13:14. > :13:18.final. I knew I would do a good job with

:13:18. > :13:22.the landing, I did not think that I would get into the final, but it

:13:22. > :13:27.was a nice shot. Why? Is that because you thought it

:13:27. > :13:33.was just your first championships? Well, the floor is not my strong

:13:33. > :13:40.point. I know that a lot of people do a lot harder tumbles. They are

:13:40. > :13:43.hard for me, but a lot of others do harder tumbles, so I was not

:13:43. > :13:50.expecting it. Catalina Ponor got a gold n for the

:13:50. > :13:53.team. A gold on the beam. Could she get a triple here? Oops, a little

:13:53. > :13:58.out of control. Of course, this is not an easy ride

:13:58. > :14:06.at all. Here we go. A double layout,

:14:06. > :14:16.beautifully done. The acceleration, two whips, flick

:14:16. > :14:19.

:14:19. > :14:24.into full twisting double. This is lovely.

:14:24. > :14:30.On the beam she gave us grace, here she is giving us power and lots of

:14:30. > :14:33.grip. The audience are totally with her.

:14:33. > :14:43.A big pull through the flick. A triple twist.

:14:43. > :14:46.

:14:46. > :14:56.I tell you, the tumbling is great. Warming as she goes. Selling the

:14:56. > :15:18.

:15:18. > :15:23.The double pike with just a tiny pace back. What about that? It's a

:15:23. > :15:30.benchmark to set. A fabulous routine, got all the tumbling. This

:15:30. > :15:35.is the quad spin. She fell out of it a bit, but then she followed it

:15:35. > :15:43.up with this double straight, holding the body in the straight

:15:43. > :15:49.position. She's given a six for the difficulty. That is indeed the

:15:49. > :15:54.score to beat. Our attentions turn then to Vanessa Ferrari. She was a

:15:54. > :15:59.European champion on floor back in 2007 in the world champion all

:15:59. > :16:05.round. She took gold in the Olympic test event not so long ago an this

:16:05. > :16:10.apparatus, so she's on firm, Mitch? Yes, this is powerful. A double,

:16:10. > :16:20.double. Deep on the landing. That's an example she has adapted in her

:16:20. > :16:20.

:16:20. > :17:24.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

:17:24. > :17:31.it a little. That was a lovely will, the determination and still

:17:31. > :17:39.has the technique. Just a little pace back on the double pike. She

:17:39. > :17:44.survived the difference. She's still a contender. The double pike

:17:44. > :17:54.dismount, the skip backwards. It wasn't faultless, but it was very

:17:54. > :18:02.

:18:02. > :18:12.member of the senior British squad, Rebecca Tunney. She's 15. Trains at

:18:12. > :18:17.

:18:17. > :18:24.the City of Liverpool. Very sparkly young gymnast. With a

:18:24. > :18:30.very big opening tumble. How's she going to fare? Up into a massive

:18:30. > :18:35.double Arabian and she fared perfectly well. Now has to find

:18:35. > :18:45.some legs for the second big tumble. Full twisting double pike. She does

:18:45. > :18:45.

:18:45. > :18:55.the same again. Now we need expressive dance as well. She's

:18:55. > :19:09.

:19:09. > :19:19.very fast, very powerful. with this complex run. One-and-a-

:19:19. > :19:30.

:19:30. > :19:40.half. Can she make the two-and-a- there. We have seen super tumbling

:19:40. > :19:46.so far. Strong double pike. Just a hop back. Well, a great performance

:19:46. > :19:52.for her first ever European final. Outstanding. Absolutely brilliant.

:19:52. > :19:59.It's such a shame about that step back. How costly be that be, Chris?

:19:59. > :20:07.0.303 for the step and 0.1 out of the floor so 0.4. -- 0.3 for the

:20:07. > :20:17.step and 0.1 out of the floor so 0.4. Fast, powerful. Very hard-

:20:17. > :20:39.

:20:39. > :20:46.working. Up into third at the power here. Look at the

:20:46. > :20:56.acceleration. Incredible. Still the power. Look at this! Almost

:20:56. > :21:07.

:21:07. > :21:17.overcooked it but kept it in. Mind- Can't wait to get going into the

:21:17. > :21:51.

:21:51. > :21:59.next tumble. Superb through the party for the medals. Double tuck.

:21:59. > :22:09.Souper. Brilliant, lively, vivacious, fabulous. Unbelievable

:22:09. > :22:13.for 15! Extraordinary gymnastics. Is it a gold each? I think it is.

:22:13. > :22:18.Now this she did really well. Double twisting, double back and

:22:18. > :22:28.lands with not a problem. That's the best I've seen her perform it

:22:28. > :22:31.

:22:31. > :22:41.in this Championships. Larisa Andreea Iordache has got it! Wow, a

:22:41. > :22:43.

:22:43. > :22:52.massive score. Great Britain's Hannah Whelan is up next. All

:22:52. > :22:59.around British champion. English floor champion. 19. Can she add

:22:59. > :23:09.another medal to the bronze she got on beam? Triple twist. Lovely and

:23:09. > :23:39.

:23:39. > :23:49.the two-and-a-half and does what's thrown into the floor routine. Very

:23:49. > :24:09.

:24:09. > :24:15.original dance. Fabulous landing She's selling it well. Just hope

:24:15. > :24:20.she's kept the energy right to the end. Come on, Hannah. Lift up high,

:24:20. > :24:25.double pike! It's there! What a performance. A real professional

:24:25. > :24:31.performance there, Matt? Tell you what, I am really excited, OK, she

:24:31. > :24:34.scored 14.333 in qualification, she needs over 14.4 to go up into

:24:34. > :24:39.bronze. Such confidence all the way through

:24:39. > :24:46.and it wasn't just the tumbling, it was the way she danced away,

:24:46. > :24:56.projected really sold the routine, went for it. It's there! What about

:24:56. > :24:57.

:24:57. > :25:04.that?! Hannah wheelen has a bronze medal, snatched it off Ferrari --

:25:04. > :25:08.Hannah Whelan. Gold and silver one and two for Romania, Hannah Whelan

:25:08. > :25:15.bronze. Rebecca Tunney in fifth. Hannah Whelan writes herself into

:25:15. > :25:19.the history books for British gymnastics.

:25:19. > :25:22.Hannah you have two bronze medals clinking around your neck. Not

:25:22. > :25:27.content with getting one on the beam, you picked up bronze on the

:25:27. > :25:30.floor as well, you must be delighted? So happy. Very

:25:30. > :25:35.unexpected, just wanted to do some routines, knew I had an outside

:25:35. > :25:39.chance of getting a medal, but two, I'm over the moon. You are the

:25:39. > :25:45.first British any more nast since Beth Tweddle to win an individual

:25:45. > :25:52.at the European Championships, was you aware of that? No. Beth's an

:25:52. > :25:55.amazing gymnast and to be able to almost follow in her footsteps, I'm

:25:55. > :26:00.very happy. Is this a significant step for you in your career to win

:26:01. > :26:05.some medals in a major and put yourself on the map? Definitely.

:26:05. > :26:10.It's great going into the Olympics and for the rest of my career, I've

:26:10. > :26:16.won nationals before, always dreaming of winning Europeans and

:26:16. > :26:19.to come here and win two, I'm so happy. What about Ruby Harrold and

:26:19. > :26:24.Rebecca Tunney also in finals and Rebecca Tunney finishing fifth in

:26:24. > :26:28.her first major? That is fantastic. My first European final I fell

:26:28. > :26:33.twice on beam, that was only last year and the nerves got the better

:26:33. > :26:37.of me, but they are such amazing tallened youngsters, a very bright

:26:37. > :26:41.future for them. Do you think they've set down a stake for an

:26:41. > :26:48.Olympic place? Yes, definitely. So much strength in Great Britain now

:26:48. > :26:52.and this European Championships has shown it. Beth, how have the

:26:52. > :26:56.Europeans been for you this year as a spectator? Great. Britain have

:26:57. > :27:00.come away with a few medals, so it's nice to see. It's great

:27:00. > :27:06.prospects for the future of British gymnastics. Did you predict Hannah

:27:06. > :27:12.would come away with two medals? had a good feeling she'd come away

:27:12. > :27:16.with one individual. I said to her before I left, I've got a feeling

:27:16. > :27:21.Hannah will medal. Would you have thought beam or floor? To be honest,

:27:21. > :27:27.I thought it was going to be beam so it's amazing she's got two.

:27:27. > :27:31.Talking of your coach Amanda, she's worth a mention isn't she? Yes, me

:27:31. > :27:35.and Hannah are the only ones who've got an individual piece medal and

:27:35. > :27:38.she's the only coach in the whole of Britain that has a gymnast

:27:38. > :27:41.individual medal. What does that mean for us in general going

:27:41. > :27:44.towards the Olympics? There is a couple of months left, there's a

:27:44. > :27:48.real confidence there now? Yes, everyone who sees Hannah get a

:27:48. > :27:53.medal, it gives them belief, so the rest of the girls will look up to

:27:53. > :27:58.her, see what she's been doing in training and see, we do what she's

:27:58. > :28:01.done. Ruby and bars, Becky and floor... They've taken on a lot of

:28:01. > :28:04.responsibility? They are the two youngsters, but they've risen to

:28:04. > :28:10.the game and put their stamp on it and proved their point ready for

:28:10. > :28:17.the Olympics. How do you think the men will fare? They usually try and

:28:17. > :28:19.outdo us, hopefully - they've been working hard and looking good - I

:28:20. > :28:24.wouldn't be surprised if they come home with a few medals. It's their

:28:24. > :28:29.turn next week, so it's the men's team final on the 26th May. You can

:28:29. > :28:33.watch that on the red button from 1.25pm, then it's the apparatus

:28:33. > :28:37.finals the day after that on 27th May on the red button once again.

:28:37. > :28:44.You can see highlights of the whole competition on Sunday 3rd June.
