:00:32. > :00:36.A very warm welcome to coverage of the European gymnastics

:00:36. > :00:40.Championships. Hello to some more fans that we would normally have

:00:40. > :00:50.with us. All of you are now converts after what was a

:00:50. > :01:00.sensational summer. The door is open for a medal.

:01:00. > :01:10.

:01:10. > :01:20.Great Britain's Beth Tweddell has a bronze medal!

:01:20. > :01:25.What a performance from the young 19-year-old! That was first class!

:01:25. > :01:28.That is superb. Louis Smith delivered under pressure. What a

:01:28. > :01:33.job they have done for Great Britain.

:01:34. > :01:38.It sent shivers down my spine every time I say that. Joining me to talk

:01:38. > :01:42.through the action are three of the stars of London 2012. It is

:01:42. > :01:45.Kristian Thomas, Hannah Whelan and Louis Smith. Good afternoon to all

:01:45. > :01:52.of you. I'm sure a lot of people will be wondering why you are not

:01:52. > :01:56.out in Moscow. What has been going on? Sadly I had an unfortunate

:01:56. > :02:03.injury to my right knee and that was due to a bad vault landing.

:02:03. > :02:08.That was about three weeks ago. I was gunning for a spot on the team.

:02:08. > :02:13.It was in France in a competition and I landed straight leg on my

:02:13. > :02:17.right leg so that caused a small fracture in the tibia so back to

:02:17. > :02:22.rehab. We are happy you are here to talk through the action. Hammad,

:02:22. > :02:28.what a summer you had. Is it difficult to get back into its --

:02:28. > :02:33.Hanna. I had some time out and a holiday. It has taken me a while to

:02:33. > :02:41.get back into the swing of things. What have you been doing? I went on

:02:41. > :02:45.two holidays. Two Holidays! some time out. And less intense

:02:45. > :02:51.training until Christmas. Pit has taken longer than expected to get

:02:51. > :02:56.back fit but I am back training now and it is all going well. You have

:02:56. > :03:00.been busy, you're not renowned as a floor work get in the world of

:03:00. > :03:06.gymnastics but what a sensational performance on Strictly Come

:03:06. > :03:12.Dancing. Here you are in the final. You have not got those trousers on

:03:12. > :03:19.today. I lent them to Max. He might be wearing them! How was that

:03:19. > :03:25.feeling? I am not a natural floor worker, I do not dance, I am a

:03:25. > :03:32.gymnast. It is very different. here you while with the Queen, Your

:03:32. > :03:39.Majesty -- Her Majesty. We should be referring to as Louis Smith MBE.

:03:39. > :03:43.That was an unbelievable experience. How does it feel for you were --

:03:44. > :03:48.how does it feel for you all watching the lads out in Moscow? Is

:03:48. > :03:53.it a strange feeling? Yes, strange. This are the first major

:03:53. > :03:56.championships I have ever missed. I am jealous that I am not out there

:03:56. > :04:01.competing with the guys and being out with the team but at the same

:04:01. > :04:06.time, I wish them all well and I know they will get some great

:04:06. > :04:11.results. If qualification is anything to go by, there will be

:04:11. > :04:17.some good results. Week caught up with Max Whitlock and Dan Purvis

:04:17. > :04:21.ahead of this competition to get their thoughts.

:04:21. > :04:30.The Great Britain's men's gymnastics team receive their

:04:30. > :04:36.applause. What an incredible moment. I went to London 12 -- 2012, hoping

:04:36. > :04:42.to get on the team. To come with nettles was unbelievable. The team

:04:42. > :04:46.is so strong. It was a great achievement for us. Hopefully we

:04:46. > :04:51.can continue to the world's. It is hard to get into this team.

:04:51. > :04:55.Everybody is good and the juniors are coming up. Everyone is pushing

:04:55. > :05:00.each other for that place. When you get to these internationals,

:05:00. > :05:08.everyone is looking at G B as one of the best teams. After the

:05:08. > :05:11.Olympics I wanted to come out as an all-round gymnastics -- gymnast and

:05:11. > :05:15.this is the first competition where I have been put in an all-round

:05:15. > :05:21.players. To see my name on that board was a really good feeling.

:05:21. > :05:27.has just been phenomenal this year. It is the first time I have been in

:05:27. > :05:34.the team as an all round. I am not thinking about medals at the moment.

:05:34. > :05:39.I literally want to get in there. Hopefully I can do that.

:05:39. > :05:44.So, Max saying he is not thinking that medals at the moment. Do you

:05:44. > :05:49.believe that? It definitely will be in the back of his mind. He will be

:05:49. > :05:56.out there gunning for a medal. has this nonchalant way of getting

:05:56. > :06:00.through routines and seeing what will happen. I think that is what

:06:00. > :06:05.you need to do as a gymnast. It is very different from the 100 metre

:06:05. > :06:08.sprint or boxing where you have to beat the opponent. Gymnastics is

:06:09. > :06:12.very much replicating what you do in training. If you try and put

:06:12. > :06:17.more effort in that is where things go wrong. He is right to do his

:06:17. > :06:22.routine clean. Every four years as the Olympics progresses there are

:06:22. > :06:31.changes to the judges code. There are quite a few this time round. We

:06:31. > :06:36.will talk through some of the main They have brought the vault down by

:06:36. > :06:45.a full mark. And on the floor you keep rotating instead of landing on

:06:45. > :06:49.your feet. And on rings you can only do three strength element

:06:49. > :06:59.before you move into a swing. As a vault and a floor specialist, are

:06:59. > :07:00.

:07:00. > :07:06.I understand why they have brought it in. Sometimes you would be a

:07:06. > :07:13.full mark higher. It makes sense to bring the vault down. And the

:07:13. > :07:17.rollouts on floor are dangerous. So again, you may be get some people

:07:17. > :07:21.who are not fully technically aware that they should be doing that

:07:21. > :07:26.skill so that is a big safety issue. I think it is probably a good idea

:07:26. > :07:31.to bring it out to be honest. far as the all-around competition

:07:31. > :07:41.is concerned, there are six pieces of apparatus. Let's see who the

:07:41. > :07:47.

:07:47. > :07:55.main contenders will be. We start The pommel horse is where Dan

:07:55. > :07:59.Purvis is starting. Is it a good piece for him? I do not think it is

:07:59. > :08:07.a bad piece. He will be finishing on floor. That is is strongest

:08:07. > :08:10.apparatus so he can judge what he needs to do. On to the rings. The

:08:10. > :08:17.two Ukrainians, you will obviously know them very well because you

:08:17. > :08:22.were up against them in the team final. They are the ones to look

:08:22. > :08:28.out for. And then we have Max on vault. A great piece for him to

:08:28. > :08:34.start on I think. Definitely. It is a good piece to get your adrenalin

:08:34. > :08:39.and use your nerves. He has a good solid vault and is consistent. It

:08:39. > :08:43.should not be too nerve-racking for him. We will talk to more Hannah

:08:43. > :08:50.later because we have the women's later but first we will turn our

:08:50. > :08:55.attention to the men's all round. There is no Mitch Fenner in the

:08:55. > :09:05.commentary box because he is on the floor of this competition with the

:09:05. > :09:19.

:09:19. > :09:29.qualifier David Belyavskiy from Russia. He is 21 years old. He sat

:09:29. > :09:43.

:09:43. > :09:53.down on his salt in qualification. his face. What a great start for

:09:53. > :10:29.

:10:29. > :10:33.him. That lays down a benchmark. Whitlock. The highest qualifier.

:10:33. > :10:43.Can he keep the consistency that he had a few days ago in

:10:43. > :10:55.

:10:55. > :11:04.that was a costly land in there. How costly? They might be very

:11:04. > :11:08.unkind and call it a complete mark but I think it would be 0.5. He had

:11:08. > :11:18.enormous height and transition but relaxed a little bit before the

:11:18. > :11:24.

:11:24. > :11:34.landing and he is down. That was not too costly. Max is a fighter.

:11:34. > :11:52.

:11:52. > :12:02.worker all of his career. He demonstrates his strength here.

:12:02. > :12:02.

:12:02. > :12:12.Fabulous physique for rings. Lovely upper body strength. The gymnasts

:12:12. > :12:33.

:12:34. > :12:39.have to show Swinging as well as hot on the heels of David

:12:39. > :12:49.Belyavskiy. You may remember the Ukrainians in the fight with Great

:12:49. > :12:55.

:12:55. > :13:01.Britain for the bronze medal in the team competition at the Olympics.

:13:01. > :13:11.He winds up in to the dismay at. A full twisting double straight. A

:13:11. > :13:25.

:13:25. > :13:35.slight step to one side but a solid just 19 years old. Such a great

:13:35. > :13:43.

:13:43. > :13:48.all-round gymnast. He was 11 that circuit of internationals leading

:13:48. > :13:58.up to this. He has a fabulous physique, very good technique. A

:13:58. > :14:23.

:14:23. > :14:29.For a lot of gymnasts coming off the back of the Olympics, this is

:14:29. > :14:35.the first major competition. That was a fantastic performance for me.

:14:36. > :14:45.The Ukraine have a tradition of very stylist -- stylish gymnasts.

:14:46. > :14:46.

:14:46. > :14:56.He did everything with ease. He is only 19. As he matures and gets

:14:56. > :15:18.

:15:18. > :15:27.more strength, the start was a very but back in 2011, he was 5th in the

:15:27. > :15:37.all round, and in the Russian championships, he got a second, so

:15:37. > :15:47.

:15:47. > :15:57.but here on home ground especially. Fabulous start. Double front. Very

:15:57. > :16:06.

:16:06. > :16:16.routine. It has changed quite a bit. You need to be able to land

:16:16. > :16:45.

:16:45. > :16:52.has got a great pace to this but really, not much wrong with

:16:52. > :16:59.that routine. I really like that, such a beautiful slow, he is so

:16:59. > :17:09.confident and charismatic. Double twist into the full twist, into the

:17:09. > :17:38.

:17:38. > :17:48.difficult vault. He is just 0.4 behind David Belyavskiy, who is

:17:48. > :18:00.

:18:01. > :18:10.still the leaders. That is one of tumble. The trick is to cram in as

:18:11. > :18:11.

:18:11. > :18:53.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:18:53. > :19:02.much difficulty as possible in the higher rate. -- hurried. You like

:19:02. > :19:07.to see the gymnasts open. Full twisting double back. Full

:19:07. > :19:11.difficulty. I was a bit sceptical about the standard of what we would

:19:11. > :19:21.see in the handover period of the Olympics but so has our I am blown

:19:21. > :19:47.

:19:47. > :19:57.first piece of apparatus. David Belyavskiy it is the leader but all

:19:57. > :20:11.

:20:12. > :20:16.very close indeed. This could go thunder down this runway. He is

:20:16. > :20:26.very upright but watch how he converts that forward speed into

:20:26. > :20:26.

:20:26. > :20:36.rotation and height. This is Essex difficulty! -- 64 stock this is a

:20:36. > :20:46.

:20:46. > :20:52.double pike. He is out of the running surely. That has got to

:20:52. > :21:01.have hurt his ankles. I am very surprised. I have seen him do the

:21:01. > :21:07.vault were lots of times. He knows his all-around dreams are over.

:21:07. > :21:17.Hold your breath. He has got the potential to score well and if he

:21:17. > :21:17.

:21:17. > :22:07.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:22:07. > :22:12.can push back into the medals, that That is exactly what he needed

:22:12. > :22:22.after the vault. That puts him up into second place. But the current

:22:22. > :22:30.

:22:31. > :22:37.leader, David Belyavskiy, is still That was huge! Look at the time he

:22:37. > :22:42.has in the air! Absolutely amazing. He extends the body to make a half

:22:42. > :22:52.turn. He is a superstar, Oleg Verniaiev. That puts him into the

:22:52. > :22:52.

:22:52. > :23:36.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:23:36. > :23:40.lead. He got 0.1 more than David landing but a great routine. --

:23:40. > :23:46.double double tuck. He controlled the rings beautifully, they wanted

:23:46. > :23:52.to swing. He looked a class act there, he is a class act. He has

:23:52. > :24:00.fantastic technique. He controlled the apparatus and Ridley showed the

:24:00. > :24:07.strength moves. -- and he really showed. Up into fourth place. That

:24:07. > :24:14.is quite nice! Great start. He is a good, consistent performer. He will

:24:14. > :24:18.quietly built his cause as he goes through the competition. I suspect

:24:18. > :24:22.it suited him slightly not to be the top qualifier, Daniel Purvis,

:24:22. > :24:32.because he looks a bit more relaxed than we have seen him in the last

:24:32. > :24:46.

:24:46. > :24:56.maybe it all-around final in the Olympics and he came 21st -- made

:24:56. > :25:21.

:25:21. > :25:27.elbows on the rings of Dom but he strength that we have seen from the

:25:27. > :25:35.others. It goes without saying that strength comes with age. He is one

:25:35. > :25:40.of the youngest in the competition. He is a very promising gymnast.

:25:40. > :25:44.Many of the Belgians are looking much stronger. They are one of the

:25:44. > :25:48.countries that look like they are putting a lot of effort into their

:25:48. > :25:58.gymnastics and a swinging work was good, but he has not quite got the

:25:58. > :25:58.

:25:58. > :27:00.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:27:00. > :27:06.power yet. He is a little bit and a large step back on the

:27:06. > :27:10.landings. That was the Frenchman, he qualified in 10th. If he keeps

:27:10. > :27:20.the consistency, I honestly think anything can happen in that top 10.

:27:20. > :27:39.

:27:39. > :27:43.Verniaiev, David Belyavskiy it needs over 15.4. When you work

:27:43. > :27:47.first, you then drop to the bottom of the group, so he has waited

:27:47. > :27:53.until the last gymnast in the second bit. He has had plenty of

:27:53. > :28:03.time to see what is happening around him. If he needs 14.8, I am

:28:03. > :28:03.

:28:03. > :28:54.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:28:54. > :28:59.the second one in. Can the current control did well. -- controlled it.

:28:59. > :29:08.Very unusual discount, double pike front discount, with a large step

:29:08. > :29:14.on the landings. There were some areas. Could it match Max's?

:29:14. > :29:23.possibly could. There was some errors, a loss of form, bending of

:29:23. > :29:31.the arms and the dismount. There are still fall for PCs to go! Let's

:29:31. > :29:38.give the lad some credit. -- four PCS to go. With you go for big

:29:38. > :29:48.difficulty, you can have the slight errors. -- when you go for.

:29:48. > :29:56.

:29:56. > :30:01.dimension. Such difficult work. Occasional loss of form but when

:30:01. > :30:07.you are going for this really big work, the double pike, look how

:30:07. > :30:14.high he is... And you cannot spot your landing. That is the trouble

:30:14. > :30:20.with a four-wood dismount. That will be a 0.5 deduction. -- forward

:30:20. > :30:24.dismount. It was a massive dismount. That is probably the first one I

:30:24. > :30:31.have seen in a long time, the double pike. The blind landing is

:30:31. > :30:39.so difficult for the gymnasts. You have to generate so much power,

:30:39. > :30:49.incredible. And in the pie position, there is a bit of hoping! -- the

:30:49. > :31:24.

:31:25. > :31:29.in this rotation up onto the high bar. He was part of the bronze

:31:29. > :31:39.medal winning team and got a bronze medal on the pommel horse at the

:31:39. > :31:58.

:31:58. > :32:04.out. He is showing the different groups that he needs. A really

:32:04. > :32:11.efficient routine from Max there. And he really is keeping these

:32:11. > :32:19.routines clean. He knows that is the key. You can see here he wants

:32:19. > :32:23.to climb higher. A grade routine. Very stylish. Knocks a routine

:32:23. > :32:30.packed with high-flying release and catches but he plays sit very well.

:32:30. > :32:35.He is not taking the risk of falling off the high bar. He has

:32:35. > :32:41.got a really strong shoulder line. He manages to keep his shoulders

:32:42. > :32:47.beautifully open. His technique is good. He is not getting marks

:32:47. > :32:51.deducted for poor body shape. He and his coach have very cleverly

:32:51. > :32:56.made his top routines very difficult and his routines which

:32:56. > :33:02.are not necessarily his starring place are efficient and that is

:33:02. > :33:05.what I call this, very efficient. great execution of every skill and

:33:05. > :33:15.that is what we are looking at. It is probably not one of his better

:33:15. > :33:25.pieces. It says he is in the lead at the moment. Let's hope he can

:33:25. > :33:38.

:33:38. > :33:48.stake in the top three. Now Fabyan apparatus so brace yourselves.

:33:48. > :34:03.

:34:03. > :34:13.full twisting somersault over the He covered it well. He is going for

:34:13. > :34:24.

:34:24. > :34:34.broke. A really exciting routine the routine the more likely you are

:34:34. > :34:38.to get deductions. That was a pact routine. I think he surprised

:34:38. > :34:48.himself with that landing! But he did incredibly well to keep his

:34:48. > :34:50.

:34:50. > :34:57.composure and carry on. He should have done a Scott full but he did a

:34:58. > :35:07.squat half. These are things which happen in training and you have got

:35:08. > :35:32.

:35:32. > :35:42.to go with the routine. Immensely him. He has massive start values on

:35:42. > :35:51.

:35:51. > :35:56.always fabulous technicians. They are trained and coached so well.

:35:56. > :36:02.Their lines are great. The position on the turns, legs locked together,

:36:02. > :36:08.full of difficulty, full of style. Double front half-out, a bit of a

:36:08. > :36:18.trade mark. That was a great routine. He has his sights set on

:36:18. > :36:32.

:36:32. > :36:37.gold. Oleg Verniaiev goes into the floor routine. What can he offer

:36:38. > :36:45.here on rings? He looks a strong lad but he looks heavy. I would

:36:45. > :36:55.agree with that but we will find out. But not so heavy he cannot

:36:55. > :37:08.

:37:08. > :37:12.hold an absolutely straight body. arms on backswing to handstand. --

:37:12. > :37:22.that swing. He finishes the swing with strength. That is what rings

:37:22. > :37:36.

:37:36. > :37:41.does well. -- on that dismount. With this new code it has made it a

:37:41. > :37:51.fluid experience to watch, hasn't it? I think it has been great for

:37:51. > :37:52.

:37:52. > :37:57.the Rings, definitely. The gymnasts have to combine the strengths. You

:37:57. > :38:01.can see the strain. He nearly overcooked it. That showed great

:38:02. > :38:11.strength. This winning element and the dismount buzz by far the best

:38:12. > :38:12.

:38:12. > :38:22.dismount I have seen. A really great straight line. He will

:38:22. > :38:28.

:38:28. > :38:36.certainly moved up the rankings bars? He had a hefty deduction on

:38:36. > :38:46.the vault. He will want to put that behind him. He was the top scorer

:38:46. > :39:14.

:39:14. > :39:19.in qualification on the parallel full-term there. S winning turn

:39:19. > :39:29.into the double pike. Just the tiniest hop. That was very

:39:29. > :39:33.

:39:33. > :39:43.it stands, David Belyavskiy. This is an all-or-nothing piece of

:39:43. > :40:20.

:40:20. > :40:30.apparatus this. No doubt he will be grips and the close bar work. It

:45:01. > :45:05.This could be be make or break routine I feel for down. In the

:46:06. > :46:10.Such lovely lines, Dan Purvis. He looks as classy as anyone in the

:46:10. > :46:17.competition and the difficult stuff at the start, it wasn't perfect but

:46:17. > :46:25.he did not give too much away. is on fire. He has got two

:46:31. > :46:34.Geoff Brooks, has coached him from very young. He trains a lot at the

:46:34. > :46:44.National Centre and he has really worked hard to put the pieces he

:47:09. > :47:16.Absolutely nailed to perfection. Good lift. You do not get quite the

:48:30. > :48:38.gymnasts must show strength into hands-down as a requirement. It is

:48:38. > :48:48.part of the routine. There is the roll-out. No deduction for the

:48:48. > :48:59.

:48:59. > :49:04.landing. It is often favoured by master at containing the energy and

:49:04. > :49:08.the power. The floor area is not that big and to do that kind of

:49:08. > :49:17.acrobatics in that area is phenomenal. He is in complete

:49:28. > :49:31.

:49:31. > :49:34.top spot. Max Whitlock now on the fourth piece of apparatus. He got a

:49:34. > :49:44.higher score than David Belyavskiy in the qualification and the

:52:14. > :52:17.gymnasts must perform. Triple back somersault, slight top forward, but

:52:17. > :52:26.a very clean up routine. The competition is hotting up at the

:52:26. > :52:30.top. He is of interesting work, not just the same old same old. He made

:52:31. > :52:38.that triple back look easy. We often hold our breath on that but

:52:38. > :52:47.you did not need to. Nobby Stiles. Really innovative work. -- a lovely

:52:47. > :52:51.style. You can see his elbows were bent and the judges can deduct up

:52:51. > :52:57.to 0.5 for that because the aim is to catch it at full stretch. But so

:52:57. > :53:07.much of the rest of the work was very good indeed. Lovely straight

:53:32. > :54:37.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:54:37. > :54:42.to climb from the 6th place he is there. He could not have done much

:54:42. > :54:47.better than that. I think that is the best high bar routine I have

:54:47. > :54:51.seen him do. There was only one bit in the squat when he split his legs

:55:01. > :55:01.

:55:01. > :55:05.routine was very clean. That lovely straight shape. Fantastic. There is

:55:05. > :55:15.a lot of gymnastics still to come but it says first for Daniel

:55:15. > :55:21.

:55:21. > :55:31.penultimate piece of apparatus. -- David Belyavskiy. He has led every

:56:11. > :56:19.pirouette dismount. Evidence of nerves but he coped with them

:56:19. > :56:27.brilliantly. I saw some errors. The first handstand at the start was

:56:27. > :56:31.short. Something that Max can certainly perform a lot better. He

:58:05. > :58:11.What a routine! What a performance under that pressure. The lines and

:12:53. > :12:56.could not see absolutely everything from the camera angle. I think

:12:57. > :13:01.there were a couple of steps on landing he will be disappointed

:13:01. > :13:05.with. He is a great floor worker but he has had to change his

:13:05. > :13:10.routine to deal with the new rules. You are only allowed the one roll-

:13:10. > :13:15.out now and he has been trying some new difficult elements. Lots of

:13:15. > :13:25.twisting. That was a very deep landing. But what a fight. Many a

:13:25. > :13:41.

:13:41. > :13:46.gymnast would have just sat down top six. That is a fantastic result

:13:46. > :13:53.and the silver medal as well. Two in the top five in the Europeans,

:13:53. > :13:58.fantastic. David Belyavskiy from Moscow, on home soil, taking the

:13:58. > :14:01.title. An emotional scene for him and all his coach has. But Max

:14:01. > :14:07.Whitlock should not be in any way disappointed with himself. Second

:14:07. > :14:14.place. A bit of a step on his very first piece of apparatus but he

:14:14. > :14:21.showed great fighting spirit just the same. He did not give up. Every

:14:21. > :14:31.piece got better. Second in Europe. A fantastic achievement, Max. Here

:14:31. > :14:52.

:14:52. > :14:58.rugby results. -- here are the David Belyavskiy gets the gold. We

:14:58. > :15:02.are obviously all talking about Max Whitlock. Such an unlucky start for

:15:02. > :15:08.him on vault. If there had been another piece he would have

:15:08. > :15:13.probably taken the gold in the end. Maybe the nerves did get the better

:15:13. > :15:17.of him slightly but he did ever so well to claw his way back into the

:15:17. > :15:23.competition and finish amongst the medals. And D obviously going into

:15:24. > :15:30.this, Louis, with a certain amount of pressure. Yes, fair play to Max.

:15:30. > :15:36.He did what he had to dig. Look what he has produced. He is on the

:15:36. > :15:46.podium, a silver medal in the all- round finals. He is a brilliant guy.

:15:46. > :15:54.

:15:54. > :16:02.Congratulations, you first senior European medal. I am very happy

:16:02. > :16:07.with that. I hope to do similar routines to qualification and I did

:16:07. > :16:12.and I am ready happy. You got a bronze a few years back. The

:16:12. > :16:17.quality is stepping up so ones like slip and you can fall down?

:16:17. > :16:22.seems to be like that. Everybody seemed to nail their routines and

:16:22. > :16:27.was so consistent. With my own performance, I am not quite as fit

:16:27. > :16:31.as I wanted the, but I am quite happy with that. The in the past

:16:31. > :16:35.people have seen you as a pommel horse and floor specialist but you

:16:35. > :16:40.have taken a massive step forward since the end Olympics. That is

:16:40. > :16:46.what I wanted to do. I wanted to prove myself as an all-rounder and

:16:46. > :16:50.to go into this competition, my first all round in a major

:16:50. > :16:56.competition, and to come up with a medal, it is what I was hopefully

:16:56. > :17:01.aiming for. He went into the competition saying

:17:01. > :17:06.he was not thinking about a medal but he knew what he was capable of.

:17:06. > :17:11.Can it compete with the very big guns in the world? He is still very

:17:11. > :17:18.young, so when he matures a little bit his rings will definitely get

:17:18. > :17:23.stronger. The disinterest in, because the new code works for the

:17:23. > :17:27.likes of Max -- it is interesting. It is not just all about solid

:17:27. > :17:34.strength, you have more swinger. lot of the small and the younger

:17:34. > :17:37.guys are doing a lot of swings and it is any they really big guys you

:17:37. > :17:42.see in the finals that can use the strength to boost up their routines

:17:42. > :17:48.-- and it is only the really big guys. Do you think privately they

:17:48. > :17:54.will be really pleased with that? Definitely. He has had quite a few

:17:54. > :18:00.competitions after the Olympics. Only two weeks ago he was in Japan.

:18:00. > :18:03.Mentally and physically, that will drain your energy. I think he could

:18:03. > :18:08.have tied up a few different apparatus but overall I think he

:18:08. > :18:14.will be very happy for. gymnastics is not over because he

:18:14. > :18:17.has another couple of finals to go. All the gymnasts from Britain did

:18:17. > :18:27.incredibly well in qualification. Let's see who will be competing

:18:27. > :18:36.

:18:36. > :18:42.back. He is a training partner. Definitely. We have Sam Oldham and

:18:42. > :18:49.a new name that none of you may have heard of, Ashley Watson. And

:18:49. > :18:54.then we have Becky Downie, and Ruby Harrold. Rebecca Downie it was in

:18:54. > :19:01.the Beijing Olympics but there are no British gymnasts from the

:19:01. > :19:05.women's side from the London Becky Downie has had a difficult

:19:05. > :19:10.few years with injury so it is great for her to be back on the

:19:10. > :19:16.international scene and getting in finals. If of course, Louis, you

:19:16. > :19:20.are not the only one to be adorned in sequins! Beth Tweddle has been

:19:20. > :19:25.named as the Ice Queen as well. She has been spending a lot of time in

:19:25. > :19:32.the ice rink so we thought we would rapper in some furs and put her by

:19:32. > :19:38.a fire and get her thoughts! young lady who changed the face of

:19:38. > :19:43.gymnastics for Great Britain. Tweddle has a bronze medal! I had

:19:43. > :19:48.had a tough few months leading into the Olympics. I had surgery and was

:19:48. > :19:53.not sure I would even make it, and my dream rested on that final in

:19:53. > :20:01.the bars. As soon as I walked in, I could feel the warmth so I just

:20:01. > :20:07.enjoyed every minute. To stand on the podium, I had to pinch myself

:20:07. > :20:10.to say, finally, I have done it. From the age of seven all I have

:20:10. > :20:16.known his gymnastics and listening to my coat and everything revolved

:20:16. > :20:22.around that, booking a holiday, meeting up with friends -- my coach.

:20:22. > :20:29.Now I have the freedom. I can say, I want the weekend off. I still do

:20:29. > :20:33.not know what I once for gymnastics. I love it. I never thought I would

:20:33. > :20:37.accomplish what I have done. I am making the decision to carry on

:20:37. > :20:44.training but not to compete. I wanted a break from the competitive

:20:44. > :20:50.side. All people are bothered about is what you do in the gymnastics

:20:50. > :20:56.hall, before the Olympics, but now people are bothered about what you

:20:56. > :21:00.do and what clothes you are wearing. E Louis winning Strictly Come

:21:00. > :21:06.Dancing and me winning on the ice rink, it is great for gymnastics.

:21:06. > :21:09.It is more than a sport, that is their new motto, and we have proved

:21:09. > :21:14.that. People have gathered that British gymnasts are moving up the

:21:14. > :21:18.ranks but with the games being in London, the profile of the gymnasts

:21:18. > :21:26.themselves, ten years ago you could not even name one but now people

:21:26. > :21:30.would be able to name two or three gymnasts. It will be strange, this

:21:30. > :21:35.is the first major championships after the Olympic Games so from all

:21:35. > :21:40.round Europe you will see a lot of new faces. We haven't got any of

:21:40. > :21:44.the women's Olympic team now. It is just because people are taking a

:21:44. > :21:49.break, unfortunately Becky Downie has been -- Rebecca Tunney has been

:21:49. > :21:55.injured. But it is great the new ones are getting their faces known

:21:55. > :22:01.and that experience. Shall we talk about a hot tub in your garden?

:22:01. > :22:04.can if you want! We will not talk about it! Beth Tweddle was

:22:04. > :22:14.mentioning Gabby Jupp. She was on top form, everybody was talking

:22:14. > :22:20.

:22:20. > :22:26.she has potential to make a name for herself. She almost made the

:22:26. > :22:34.beam final and then this happened on the beam. Such a shame. And that

:22:34. > :22:39.was it. The end of a qualification competition. High hopes indeed.

:22:39. > :22:45.could have done really well. She was one of the ones that everybody

:22:45. > :22:49.was hoping to announce as a superstar. We hope she is OK.

:22:49. > :22:54.are still waiting to get the definite word on this. We know she

:22:54. > :22:59.has been flown home and she will be looked at by doctors over here. Now

:22:59. > :23:08.we are focusing on Ruby Harrold and Charlie Fellows. It is quite a big

:23:08. > :23:14.moment, Charlie Fellows is very She came second at the British

:23:14. > :23:18.Championships in March, fantastic for a first-year senior. And Ruby

:23:18. > :23:22.Harrold qualified with the 6th highest score. Would you have

:23:22. > :23:29.expected that? She had the potential. Oh don't think she would

:23:29. > :23:33.have expected it. She is very talented. She has been through a

:23:33. > :23:39.rough couple of months with injury so to see her get that is an

:23:39. > :23:43.amazing result. Let's hear from her. I came to this European

:23:43. > :23:47.Championships to focus on the final of the bars because I have some

:23:47. > :23:52.unique combinations and I was hoping that would be enough so. And

:23:52. > :23:58.to walk away yesterday with an all round final and to find out later I

:23:58. > :24:01.had a beam final was fantastic. is that wonderful moment after

:24:01. > :24:07.qualification when you realise you have a chance in the finals but

:24:07. > :24:12.then suddenly the pressure hits. She is in a very unique position.

:24:12. > :24:17.She is in new waters. She has done very well and now she is probably

:24:17. > :24:21.thinking, if I can push it a little bit harder I can do even better,

:24:21. > :24:27.but she needs to focus and say, let's not change anything, I am

:24:27. > :24:31.here because I know my routine, let's rely on it. You have messed

:24:31. > :24:35.up at a very big level and it has helped you in the long run.

:24:35. > :24:40.need to make those mistakes and understand why you make the

:24:40. > :24:45.mistakes and then you can move on. And understand it for yourself. You

:24:45. > :24:52.can be told but until you go through it, it does not go in.

:24:53. > :25:02.is one thing this minute -- listening to it but unless you do

:25:03. > :25:05.

:25:05. > :25:11.it you will not know. Another the vault final due to various

:25:11. > :25:17.injuries. She is definitely one to look to in the future. She has

:25:17. > :25:27.great potential. She trains with me and Rebecca Tunney in Liverpool.

:25:27. > :25:37.

:25:37. > :25:47.One to look out for. Let's turn our vault? It is always a steady piece

:25:47. > :25:56.

:25:56. > :26:01.Fellows obviously is the British gymnast. An interesting group. Two

:26:01. > :26:07.Ukrainians. You want but top guns to be in your group was so you can

:26:07. > :26:11.keep your sights on them. -- the top guns. Some gymnasts like to

:26:11. > :26:15.just focus on themselves and they will not watch anything else but

:26:15. > :26:24.other gymnasts like to know what they need to get to beat their

:26:24. > :26:32.competitors. Let's go to beam. Aliya Mustafina is an obvious name

:26:32. > :26:39.to pick out. That is a great group. The two at my throat -- Romanians

:26:40. > :26:47.and the Russian are the ones to watch out for there. The Russians

:26:47. > :26:56.and the Romanians are that two top groups. Aliya Mustafina has always

:26:56. > :27:02.been one of my favourite gymnasts to watch so... Where will you put

:27:02. > :27:07.your money? It is difficult. I know that two Romanians came out on top

:27:07. > :27:12.but the Russians tend to hold back a little bit in qualifications and

:27:12. > :27:22.bring it all in their final, so it will be interesting to see. Is that

:27:22. > :27:23.

:27:23. > :27:28.a tactic to hold back on the Possibly. It is hard to Safe. I

:27:28. > :27:34.don't think they intentionally make mistakes. -- it is hard to Safe.

:27:34. > :27:39.But you can opt for an easier route team. We would always say, which

:27:39. > :27:43.one will you go for? It is nice to have the back-up, keep them

:27:43. > :27:47.guessing. What is strong about the Russians, they are trained

:27:47. > :27:52.religiously. They will always be very stable and consistent, which

:27:52. > :27:56.sets them apart from the rest of the people that compete.

:27:56. > :28:00.noticeable difference between men's and women's is the age difference

:28:00. > :28:10.as well. What do you put that down to? You are doing much more

:28:10. > :28:13.

:28:13. > :28:19.difficult skills at a younger age. Two Olympics at the age of 20?

:28:19. > :28:23.How old Will you at your first Olympics? 23. Gymnastics has always

:28:23. > :28:29.been a young sport for men and women but for the females it is

:28:30. > :28:34.easy for us when we are smaller, our frames are younger. They go

:28:34. > :28:37.through puberty a lot earlier so it is a younger age sport but the

:28:37. > :28:43.women are more developed to handle the tides of pressure and the

:28:43. > :28:48.impact that the sport will have on them, -- types of pressure. But we

:28:48. > :28:55.develop later. And four apparatus instead of six for the men. That

:28:55. > :29:03.leaves a lot less room for mistakes. Yes. If you fall, it is almost like,

:29:03. > :29:07.that is it. It is a bit risky. There is Aliya Mustafina getting

:29:07. > :29:12.ready. She has had controversy from the back of the Olympics. Head

:29:13. > :29:17.coach left the team because they said he spent too much time with

:29:17. > :29:24.her and they got jealous. Politics involved. Be it does not stop, does

:29:24. > :29:32.it. We are all a cut in and ready to go. Max Whitlock did incredibly

:29:32. > :29:42.well. What will be -- the British women have in store for us? We join

:29:42. > :29:53.

:29:53. > :30:02.onslaught. Both the Russian gymnasts had some problems in

:30:02. > :30:12.qualification. They still ended up in the top four. Anastasia Grishina

:32:20. > :32:29.to keep the other one in. If it had joined it it would have gone up to

:32:29. > :32:34.a 0.3 deduction. We have a new rule on the women's side. You cannot

:32:34. > :32:41.just stand in the corner Catherine your breath and tumble from two

:32:41. > :32:46.feet. You have to move one for it and she only just fulfilled that

:33:01. > :33:07.It was a very solid performance. Very accurate on the tumbles.

:33:07. > :33:13.and the ace count just as importantly as the tumbles. A

:33:13. > :33:18.massage their to get the next working. An important opening

:33:18. > :33:28.routine. Important to the judges as well. They see it and set their

:33:28. > :33:37.

:33:37. > :33:47.Romania. The leader in qualification. Romanians are so

:33:47. > :34:03.

:34:03. > :34:07.famous for their confident beam spin as well. The gymnasts have to

:34:08. > :34:17.include eight elements. Only five of these have to be acrobatic. The

:34:18. > :34:18.

:35:10. > :35:13.

:35:17. > :35:26.positions and executions look really well performed. A couple of

:35:26. > :35:36.four balls. But always difficult to open on beam. Here is Aliya

:35:36. > :35:46.

:35:46. > :35:49.Mustafina. A great favourite of qualification and she will be

:35:49. > :35:59.wanting to improve on that if she wants to walk away with the title

:35:59. > :36:20.

:36:20. > :36:30.today. I think it will be a fight difficult links. But with the

:36:30. > :36:40.difficulty comes the risk. She managed to hold on. Matters very

:37:16. > :37:46.

:37:46. > :37:51.dismount. What an improvement. You can hear the whole audience with

:37:51. > :38:01.her on that. She does not look too happy with that performance. A

:38:01. > :38:31.

:45:43. > :46:09.

:50:58. > :51:06.the gymnasts working into the corner. They are paying lip service

:51:06. > :51:12.to it. Charlie Fellows, 13.2. A little bit up on her qualification

:51:12. > :51:16.score so that is great. Very interesting how the judges would

:51:16. > :51:23.interpret the pause in the corner, and not being allowed any more.

:51:23. > :51:29.They are only 0.1 their deductions but if you do that three times,

:51:42. > :51:51.The gymnasts now move round to the next apparatus, where they will get

:51:51. > :52:01.a quick warm-up. The gymnasts from the floor moved to vault, the vault

:52:01. > :52:18.

:52:43. > :52:50.

:52:50. > :52:59.final. This is how things start in has just come through the junior

:52:59. > :53:06.ranks. Ruby Harrold is joint 7th, 13.9. Charlie Fellows is in 16th

:53:06. > :53:12.place. The young Italian coming up through from the junior ranks. Is

:53:12. > :53:21.it a massive step from the junior ranks through to the senior ranks?

:53:21. > :53:26.Yeah. She will only be 16 this year. Her senior debut. It is great for

:53:26. > :53:32.her to bring out that beam score, the Italians are known for their

:53:32. > :53:37.great beam work. And a great start for Ruby Harrold and Charlie

:53:37. > :53:46.Fellows. It was interesting to see Becky Downie, who put the chalk on

:53:46. > :53:51.the bars. In his quite an important role as a team mate! -- it is quite.

:53:51. > :53:56.You have to get it right for your team-mate. You said it is the worst

:53:56. > :54:03.job in the world! It is not the greatest job. The especially if she

:54:03. > :54:08.slips off. But I want to get it right. Ruby Harrold will be on bars.

:54:08. > :54:12.I wonder if Becky Downie will be back to shore up for her. She will

:54:12. > :54:17.hopefully do well. This is one of her best pieces so hopefully she

:54:17. > :54:25.will get a good score. Are you surprised at how well the goals are

:54:25. > :54:31.doing? No, they are very talented gymnasts. And they looked so

:54:31. > :54:35.confident on bars. Charlie Fellows is moving over to beam. We heard

:54:35. > :54:42.Craig compare the beam to the pommel horse but obviously it is

:54:42. > :54:47.something you thrive on. The pommel horse is very nerve-racking and

:54:47. > :54:53.beam is the equivalent. She needs to enjoy herself. It is her first

:54:53. > :55:00.major, major competition so she needs to enjoy it. Just get on with

:55:00. > :55:06.it. The some of the big guns are building on the floor next. Is this

:55:06. > :55:11.a piece of apparatus you particularly enjoy? Although it has

:55:11. > :55:16.to be said, it doesn't look like there are that many people there.

:55:16. > :55:21.It gets a bit of personality out in your routine, and with the new code

:55:21. > :55:24.artistry is a lot more prominent, so it will be interesting to see

:55:24. > :55:34.what gymnasts change about their routines to make it more of a

:55:34. > :55:38.

:55:38. > :55:48.performance. Let's rejoin the having her legs worked on. She has

:55:48. > :55:51.

:55:51. > :55:59.got the vault next, her big piece of operators. -- apparatus. That

:55:59. > :56:09.sound marked the end of the warm-up. Roxana Popa from Spain. Their best

:56:09. > :56:09.

:56:09. > :57:33.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:57:33. > :57:39.you have to include. Good effort at powerful. She is almost so powerful

:57:40. > :57:46.that she struggles to harness it. She could barely get halfway across

:57:46. > :57:53.the floor area before she had done all of that tumbles. She is very

:57:53. > :58:00.powerful. It is very rare that you see so many fix in a combination. -

:58:00. > :58:05.- Philips. And she still had plenty of room. And of course there is a

:58:05. > :58:14.bonus for linking elements like that. But the bonuses are really

:58:14. > :58:20.only 0.1 and 0.2, but they do add up quite well. Two-and-a-half twist

:58:20. > :58:30.wrapped in rice and tightly. Finishing with the double pike. --

:58:30. > :58:40.

:58:40. > :58:50.nothing is going on in the arena at the moment. The first gymnasts have

:58:50. > :58:55.

:58:56. > :59:05.the gymnasts have the time to go and chalk up and to gather their

:59:06. > :59:06.

:59:06. > :59:10.thoughts. May be last minute words of wisdom from their coach.

:59:10. > :59:16.realise what has happened, on the bars you are allowed 50 seconds

:59:16. > :59:21.each, and if you are tall, you are allowed them put up, which may well

:59:21. > :59:25.have happened, so this is still the warm-up, although we have had the

:59:26. > :59:30.first floor routine. The other pieces are allowed the three-minute

:59:30. > :59:34.warm-up but the bars are allowed 52nd seed because every gymnast is

:59:34. > :59:38.allowed to prepare it as they wish so we are a little ahead on the

:59:38. > :59:48.floor, which is great, because we are now going to see Aliya

:59:48. > :59:54.

:59:54. > :00:04.Raby and immediately. Fantastic spatial awareness. -- double

:01:21. > :01:29.medallist on floor at the Olympic Games. You can see all the class

:01:29. > :01:34.that she has in this routine. Such a popular and polished gymnast. As

:01:34. > :01:43.a junior she was the absolute darling of World gymnastics. She

:01:43. > :01:48.suffered a terrible knee injury in the 2011 competition. She required

:01:48. > :01:58.surgery and took a year and a half to get back from. Everybody in

:01:58. > :02:03.

:02:03. > :02:09.but the performance during the routine was of such confidence. I

:02:09. > :02:19.think it shows the levels of maturity between the older gymnasts

:02:19. > :02:19.

:02:19. > :03:00.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:03:00. > :03:10.very dynamic. Beautiful flight, beautiful shapes. I think that was

:03:10. > :03:28.

:03:28. > :03:31.occasion. Very much so. The Russian gymnasts did not work very well in

:03:31. > :03:35.qualification. They all make mistakes but here on home ground

:03:35. > :03:41.and having watched the men work so well, they look like they have come

:03:41. > :03:46.out knowing there is a job to be done. Sometimes when you are on

:03:46. > :03:54.home soil the crowd can be quite daunting, the expectation of the

:03:54. > :04:03.crowd and sometimes it can be totally uplifting. A little look

:04:03. > :04:13.here at Anastasia Grishina. We saw her floor work. And an impressive

:04:13. > :04:39.

:04:39. > :04:46.score on the vault for Giulia top. That was a very good fault. In

:04:46. > :04:56.gymnastics, a lot of people talk about the 2.5 twisting Tsukahara

:04:56. > :05:09.

:05:09. > :05:15.which many of the Americans do but typed. She brings the arms out to

:08:23. > :08:32.but they always perform routines with difficult tumbling. It is part

:08:32. > :08:37.of the routine and that is impressive. She had a fraction of

:08:37. > :08:47.feet apart. Not that you could see when she was going in full speed.

:08:47. > :08:59.

:08:59. > :09:09.This is slow motion and look how talked about the new rule and that

:09:09. > :09:18.

:09:18. > :09:23.is the only floor routine which with the Romanians and Russians

:09:23. > :09:30.fighting for the top spot. That is always as it has been in the

:09:30. > :09:39.Europeans. Occasionally Great Britain and the Italians have been

:09:39. > :09:49.able to mix it up a little bit. But Romania and Russia historically

:09:49. > :10:22.

:10:22. > :10:28.between the bars that you have to show. She held the first somersault

:10:28. > :10:33.straight but piped the second one in. The judges can sometimes be

:10:33. > :10:43.harsh about that and call it only a double pike. I thought it was a

:10:43. > :11:02.

:11:02. > :11:10.very fluent routine. A very nice could not match the artistry of

:11:10. > :11:20.Aliya Mustafina. That is what she scored in qualification. A lot of

:11:20. > :11:35.

:11:35. > :11:45.marks to be given for artistry now. vault. -- a clean vault. That

:11:45. > :11:45.

:11:45. > :12:41.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:12:41. > :12:51.had the bars altered slightly so coach. We move on here to Larisa

:12:51. > :12:51.

:12:51. > :14:21.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:14:21. > :14:27.that? A really well choreographed routine. She used the music well.

:14:27. > :14:33.Expressive through the face. I thought that was excellent. She is

:14:33. > :14:42.excellent on the dance things as well. Hair leaps are super high.

:14:42. > :14:48.Had tumbling as fantastic. -- her tumbling is fantastic. Talk about

:14:48. > :14:51.know your distance. Right into the corner. She did not stand on two

:14:51. > :14:57.feet in the corn and wait. Following the new rules she moved

:14:57. > :15:02.from a dance position straight in. They have to be more secure on

:15:02. > :15:09.their tumbling. They cannot stand in the corner and think, thing,

:15:09. > :15:14.think. They have to move straight into it. Beautifully landed.

:15:14. > :15:24.beautiful routine. I prefer the new rule to the floor. You do not see

:15:24. > :15:35.

:15:35. > :15:39.the gymnasts standing in the corner fit. She is barely puffing after

:15:39. > :15:47.that routine. One minute and 30 seconds of constant movement with

:15:47. > :15:54.the most difficult skills. You can imagine the volume of work they

:15:54. > :15:59.have done to be able to perform a routine like that with such

:15:59. > :16:08.confidence. And the quadruples spin, the difficulty in that is

:16:08. > :16:18.unbelievable. The gymnasts will spray the water towards the bar so

:16:18. > :16:23.that the bar is not soaked with its water but it is moist. If you are

:16:23. > :16:33.over a certain height, you are allowed the bars to be put up. But

:16:33. > :16:33.

:16:33. > :16:39.it delays the competition. Look at that score! The judges thought the

:16:39. > :16:43.same as us. We should maybe take up judging because it was a fabulous

:16:43. > :16:49.routine and it is easy to see that is the best floor routine we have

:16:49. > :16:53.seen today. I don't think judging is hard when it is like that! It is

:16:53. > :17:03.when you have to choose between the not so good ones that it is more

:17:03. > :17:06.

:17:06. > :17:16.tricky. That scorch increases Larissa your Dutch lead --

:17:16. > :17:31.

:17:31. > :17:40.You don't have to. But most choose to. When you're swimming for an

:17:40. > :17:44.hour a day, your hands get lots of blisters if you don't. And lots of

:17:44. > :17:49.tears in the early days but I think your hands built up a resilience to

:17:49. > :17:57.it. Even the top guys will be contending with blisters on a

:17:57. > :18:04.weekly basis. It is important US some protection. I have noticed

:18:04. > :18:09.some of the girls used a bandage for storm different countries use

:18:09. > :18:15.different things. But if they do not wear handcarts, they're like

:18:15. > :18:25.the bars scrub quite clean of chalk, as so within your team you want to

:18:25. > :18:45.

:18:45. > :18:55.have your team using the same the higher part to Lola Bath. The

:18:55. > :18:57.

:18:57. > :19:02.that was late but she recovered well. -- high bar to low bar.

:19:02. > :19:06.put into it a little bit too much on the dismount, it was almost, I

:19:06. > :19:16.will put my hands down to save myself. She did struggle through

:19:16. > :19:26.that routine and it looks like she may have caused a bit of injury.

:19:26. > :19:39.

:19:39. > :19:44.The first turn dam was a bit late heavily. -- putting her hands down.

:19:44. > :19:50.She twisted a little bit early. That will be uncomfortable. But

:19:50. > :20:00.quite difficult when you have been waiting for a long time like that.

:20:00. > :20:24.

:20:24. > :20:34.She is a young gymnast. It will need to focus now. Two at ramps

:20:34. > :20:34.

:20:34. > :20:44.have to go. -- two rounds to go. After two pieces of apparatus,

:20:44. > :20:48.

:20:48. > :20:54.Louis set be your day key stays out in the lead. -- Larisa Iordache.

:20:54. > :21:04.Ruby Harrold has moved up a place. Giulia Steingruber, the Swiss

:21:04. > :21:10.

:21:10. > :21:14.amazing to think that the competition is halfway over.

:21:15. > :21:21.does go quite quickly. It is different when you on the floor

:21:21. > :21:29.because you are totally focused on the routines. But it is only 90

:21:29. > :21:39.seconds on three pieces and then a ten-second vault and that is it.

:21:39. > :21:45.

:21:45. > :21:52.saw a phenomenal performance from floor from Iordache. Yes, it will

:21:52. > :21:57.be interesting to see what score sheet debts and Aliya Mustafina.

:21:57. > :22:04.Giulia Steingruber has done her best two. She is moving over to the

:22:04. > :22:09.Bar's now. We would expect her to drop down. I think that is a given.

:22:09. > :22:14.She has given us up the best chance. I think now she can really start to

:22:14. > :22:19.enjoy the competition and see where she finishes. Ruby Harrold is

:22:19. > :22:25.moving up a place and that is all you can ask. She is in the beam

:22:25. > :22:31.final as well. Only two gymnasts per country allowed so things could

:22:31. > :22:39.change. She got a personal best on beam in qualification. The same if

:22:39. > :22:46.not better would be a great achievement. How did Charlie do on

:22:47. > :22:52.the floor? It is one of her best pieces. She had a fall on it

:22:52. > :22:58.qualification so I am sure she will be hoping to improve on that.

:22:58. > :23:03.piggyback us from the all round to the team. How do you think that

:23:03. > :23:09.works out within the British camp? Everyone has adjusted to the system

:23:09. > :23:12.and that is how it works. I much prefer the team competition but the

:23:12. > :23:18.individual one really gives you the opportunity to specialise on

:23:18. > :23:24.certain apparatus and push on with individual apparatus. It is a

:23:24. > :23:33.different dynamic but it is still an enjoyable competition. If you

:23:33. > :23:38.look at the likes of Iordache, put her in their team and you have a

:23:38. > :23:41.winning combination. Exactly, if you have a gymnast but can

:23:41. > :23:47.contribute like that, you can start to put together a really strong

:23:47. > :23:51.team and that is what the Romanians will be doing this year. You always

:23:51. > :23:55.used to training in Olympic Order and this is different because it is

:23:55. > :24:01.random. Do you think that will throw the gymnasts, not being with

:24:01. > :24:07.those they are competing with? it depends on the gymnast. I just

:24:07. > :24:12.focus on my own routine. I do not tend to look around. But I am sure

:24:12. > :24:16.Aliya Mustafina is looking out in the corner of her eye what the

:24:16. > :24:23.other top contenders are doing and making sure she is just ahead of

:24:23. > :24:33.them. This is Aliya Mustafina, former world champion in the all

:24:33. > :24:42.

:24:42. > :24:52.round, looking to build on her of the vault runway. Ready to

:24:52. > :25:12.

:25:12. > :25:18.emphasise her bid for this title. Fantastic vault. Look at that!

:25:18. > :25:23.Beautiful performance. We have seen her compete before with two-and-a-

:25:23. > :25:33.half twists. That is how she damage Tony in competition. The double

:25:33. > :25:33.

:25:33. > :25:43.twist is well within her grasp -- she damaged her knees. Absolutely.

:25:43. > :25:43.

:25:43. > :25:47.Good strike on to the vault. Double twist. Very tight in her legs. I

:25:47. > :25:55.think psychologically, knowing she is not doing their two-and-a-half,

:25:55. > :25:59.gives her extra confidence. Tiny bit of direction. The white line

:25:59. > :26:07.down the middle shows you if the gymnast is bang in line, she was

:26:07. > :26:12.slightly off to one side but only a very small deduction, 0.1, but she

:26:12. > :26:22.did not give anything else a wave. She will be very happy with that of

:26:22. > :26:32.

:26:32. > :26:39.stock absolutely. It will keep the Doctor of the bars left, which is

:26:39. > :26:49.her favourite. -- she will be happy with those scores. Just the bars

:26:49. > :26:54.

:26:54. > :26:59.left, which is her favourite. Now plenty of height, very clean.

:26:59. > :27:03.is probably a very little difference from the junior gymnast.

:27:03. > :27:11.She won the Junior European Championships last year and this is

:27:11. > :27:16.her first year of senior. Not quite ready yet. The wise coach does not

:27:16. > :27:23.put it out until it is absolutely ready. Lovely technique. Straight

:27:23. > :27:28.body. That will be doing double twists in training all day long but

:27:28. > :27:37.like you say, it is the maturity of the coat and a gymnast to make it

:27:37. > :27:45.safe and do a good, clean a vault - - maturity of the coach. Of course

:27:45. > :27:55.that double twist has a higher start value. That is why it is

:27:55. > :28:10.

:28:10. > :28:17.worth doing it, otherwise no one Aliya Mustafina for me but it will

:28:17. > :28:22.be a reasonable score nevertheless. She is also very tiny and dynamic.

:28:22. > :28:32.It was difficult to see from the angle but I do not think her feet

:28:32. > :28:38.absolutely maybe two twists. No, they did. There was no question.

:28:38. > :28:47.Nice type legs. Nice body shape. It would just be the deduction for

:28:47. > :28:53.being slightly off-line. She was quite arched. I think she twisted a

:28:53. > :28:58.little bit la and then she struggled to come around. -- a

:28:58. > :29:06.little bit early. The judges agreed with you. Not quite as good as

:29:06. > :29:12.Aliya Mustafina. Noemi Makra from Hungary, another gymnast who

:29:13. > :29:22.excited us in the junior ranks. Particular on the asymmetric bars

:29:23. > :29:44.

:29:44. > :29:54.for the asymmetric bars. She drinks the skills excellently and

:29:54. > :29:54.

:29:54. > :30:37.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:30:37. > :30:42.generates speed as she goes along - on bars. She knows she needs to

:30:42. > :30:52.build her lead on the first three pieces. She knows this vault needs

:30:52. > :31:07.

:31:07. > :31:12.tidy, very neat. It is not always possible to see on the TV but I do

:31:13. > :31:18.not think that had quite the flight back to we have seen from some. She

:31:18. > :31:28.brought the shoulders a little bit forward, slightly, but it was very

:31:28. > :31:38.clean. A bit of a direction deduction again for being off-line.

:31:38. > :31:39.

:31:39. > :31:48.Good shape and good confidence. was a very positive run-up. May be

:31:48. > :31:55.double twist look easy. Slide crossing of the legs. Probably not

:31:55. > :32:05.matching Aliya Mustafina but it will not be far off. She looks

:32:05. > :32:05.

:32:05. > :32:58.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:32:58. > :33:06.happy. 14.9. We are doing all is packing the difficulty in. Some

:33:06. > :33:14.of it looking a tiny bit rushed. A double front dismount. Nice and

:33:14. > :33:24.high. I was very impressed, Christine. Talk about packing in

:33:24. > :33:31.

:33:31. > :33:41.the difficult it. That full-term, it was quite late in the turn. Jam-

:33:41. > :33:44.

:33:44. > :33:52.packed. Every time they bend their elbows the judges can deduct. A

:33:52. > :33:56.routine like this can be heavily didactic. It is how they are

:33:56. > :34:01.applying the judging system. It made it look a bit rushed although

:34:01. > :34:11.it was difficult and exciting. totally agree. That look like she

:34:11. > :34:17.

:34:17. > :34:21.was put in the effort in. She was working hard in back rete in. --

:34:21. > :34:31.she was working hard in putting that in. Giulia Steingruber has

:34:31. > :34:36.

:34:36. > :34:44.made good progress since we saw at to lay her challenge. She is just

:34:44. > :34:54.applying the water. That will make sure her grip will be perfect in

:34:54. > :34:54.

:34:54. > :34:58.the routine. Last year on bars Grishina took the silver medallist

:34:59. > :35:07.-- silver medal on ours. The Russians always are. It is one of

:35:07. > :35:17.their favourite pieces of apparatus. I have never seen a Russian gymnast

:35:17. > :35:20.

:35:20. > :35:29.who could not swing bars. It is a very technical piece for the women.

:35:29. > :35:33.The floor and vault and beam are very similar in terms of acrobatic

:35:33. > :35:38.skills. The uneven bars are very technical. The Russians are very

:35:38. > :35:46.technical in their coaching of gymnastics. That has not changed.

:35:46. > :35:56.Many Russian coaches coach or around the world.-all around the

:35:56. > :36:31.

:36:31. > :36:41.place. Here we have Anastasia full of difficulty this routine --

:36:41. > :36:41.

:36:41. > :36:50.hike Jager. Very nice indeed. A big smile. A high-five at the coach.

:36:50. > :36:55.Very happy with that. They head into their final rotation. You can

:36:55. > :37:05.see the influence of Russian gymnastics in every piece of that

:37:05. > :37:17.

:37:17. > :37:27.that she could just pours a little. That is the skill of a great bar

:37:27. > :38:01.

:38:01. > :38:11.worker. A sign of classic give the difficulty value. A very

:38:11. > :38:11.

:38:11. > :39:03.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:39:03. > :39:07.impressive score puts her into Grishina but that was a packed full

:39:08. > :39:17.routine. Really nice to see the Swedish gymnasts here getting among

:39:18. > :39:19.

:39:19. > :39:29.thick. That routine did not look out of place whatsoever. The judges

:39:29. > :39:44.

:39:44. > :39:48.are looking for the gymnast to have been promising for some time.

:39:48. > :39:52.They have had good juniors for quite a while and now they are

:39:52. > :40:02.starting to make good senior gymnasts as well. Bars are always

:40:02. > :40:16.

:40:16. > :40:21.but very compact. Why not the best double twists we have seen. It is

:40:21. > :40:29.difficult to tell the distance but she had those legs locked together.

:40:29. > :40:39.A super height. I thought that was a very nice malt. -- a very nice

:40:39. > :41:13.

:41:13. > :41:23.well. She has already qualified for bar final from the earlier

:41:23. > :41:46.

:41:46. > :41:51.competition. She is not renowned all-round Championships. It is

:41:51. > :41:54.really good for the younger gymnasts to get the experience of

:41:54. > :42:04.the first major after an Olympic Games. It is really good for

:42:04. > :42:04.

:42:04. > :43:02.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:43:02. > :43:12.want to see. They want to see a back and lose sight of the beam and

:43:12. > :43:25.

:43:25. > :43:30.injury so not chancing a backward landing but that was a very

:43:30. > :43:34.confident impressive performance from Ruby Harrold. A very solid

:43:34. > :43:41.performance. I think she will be very proud of that. It looked very

:43:41. > :43:49.confident. Not many wobbles. I liked the start with the lift to

:43:49. > :43:59.handstand into a heater and. -- into a Healey turn. Very confident

:43:59. > :44:10.

:44:10. > :44:17.about the routine. She could have from Ruby. A nice little wave.

:44:17. > :44:22.Really enjoying her European experience. Let's hope in a few

:44:22. > :44:32.years' time we will see her at the Olympics. There is one of the great

:44:32. > :44:42.Russian gymnasts. There you go. A real show a girl of gymnastics. She

:44:42. > :44:49.could really perform. She is sadly missed. There are a few gymnasts

:44:49. > :44:54.here looking impressive. Certainly the desire from the powers that be

:44:54. > :44:58.in gymnastics is to reward performance.

:44:58. > :45:08.With one piece of apparatus to go, this is how things look. Larisa

:45:08. > :45:19.

:45:19. > :45:26.Iordache leads again. She has done had a shame with her landings. She

:45:26. > :45:31.did not do too well on her last piece of apparatus either. That

:45:31. > :45:38.puts Charlie Fellows into 21st place. The last piece of apparatus.

:45:38. > :45:45.I think all eyes will be on the bars, Hannah. It will be between

:45:45. > :45:55.Larisa Iordache and Mustafina. Mustafina is Olympic champion on

:45:55. > :46:04.

:46:04. > :46:11.clean through teams... Charlie Fellows will be finishing on the

:46:11. > :46:16.vault. It is all about getting that experience. Louis, you said you

:46:16. > :46:21.cannot remember your first Europeans. You are going to make

:46:22. > :46:28.mistakes early on, with your debut, but it is going to happen. You have

:46:28. > :46:33.to pick yourself up, and built on it for the future of. Halkidiki

:46:33. > :46:43.think it is that Aliya Mustafina is up last on bars -- how key do you

:46:43. > :46:46.

:46:47. > :46:51.think it is? It is big pressure. It is going to be a lot of pressure.

:46:51. > :46:58.Anastasia Grishina will be going on beam and she is one of the best in

:46:58. > :47:05.Europe on beam. May exit interesting. Ruby wraps up her

:47:05. > :47:09.competition. She is a really good slower cat and she has some

:47:09. > :47:14.interesting choreography so she puts on a good performance -- boot

:47:14. > :47:23.floor were cut. Is it possible for Aliya Mustafina to catch Larisa

:47:23. > :47:32.Iordache? And maybe. I think she will do it. She has led the way it

:47:32. > :47:39.all along. Giulia Steingruber has done incredibly well, she is now

:47:39. > :47:44.down in 5th. Ruby Harrold is in 9th, she qualified six. She has had a

:47:44. > :47:49.great competition. She has had a clean competition. She will be

:47:49. > :47:58.hoping to do a clean the floor routine and score as best she can.

:47:58. > :48:03.It is great experience for her. or why you feeling not be in there?

:48:03. > :48:08.It is a bit difficult. -- how are you feeling? I always want to be

:48:08. > :48:13.competing but it is the best for me to be training and walking on new

:48:13. > :48:23.skills for the rest of the year. you could finish on one piece of

:48:23. > :48:27.apparatus come up what would you finish on? The floor. Why? I enjoy

:48:27. > :48:34.performing on the floor, it is one of the least nerve-wracking pieces.

:48:34. > :48:39.It is a nice one-two finish on. are looking at Larisa Iordache. She

:48:39. > :48:48.knows she has one of her weakest pieces coming up. What is your

:48:48. > :48:53.gameplay? Show has to keep it calm. Don't make any stupid mistakes. --

:48:53. > :48:58.she has to. It would be pointless to try something different and make

:48:58. > :49:04.mistakes. Keep it cool. She is quite an experienced competitor now

:49:04. > :49:09.so she will know. She knows exactly what she needs to do. Whether she

:49:09. > :49:14.does it or not... She has moved up the ranks with every piece of

:49:14. > :49:22.apparatus. Can she go one more? She is in second position, Aliya

:49:22. > :49:32.Mustafina, behind Larisa Iordache. Back to the commentary box. I think

:49:32. > :49:49.

:49:49. > :49:55.that Aliya Mustafina has got the she does not look very happy with

:49:55. > :50:00.that at all. -- a big hop back. has not been a good competition for

:50:00. > :50:06.her. We have not been able to see everybody but that is very much the

:50:06. > :50:16.picture of a disappointed gymnast. Very nice in the air, great height

:50:16. > :50:32.

:50:32. > :50:37.Yushchenko, the first gymnast to do this -- we name this. It has

:50:37. > :50:40.changed a lot. You can hit the platform with your feet so low that

:50:40. > :50:50.you can rub it off and it has changed the vault considerably for

:50:50. > :50:54.

:50:54. > :51:04.women. It is safe as well. Les. -- yes. She needs to take a quick

:52:19. > :52:24.insight into what the gymnast will the best executions. You can almost

:52:24. > :52:29.see the potential in this gymnast. She has done some great work in

:52:29. > :52:39.this competition. I am sure her coaches will be very pleased with

:52:39. > :53:04.

:53:04. > :53:14.without the hand guards. Very clean dismount. Nice routine. Happy with

:53:14. > :53:16.

:53:16. > :53:22.that. She has worked pretty cleanly. She looks in control of her work.

:53:22. > :53:27.She looks ready probably to take a step up. I do not think we saw her

:53:27. > :53:36.floor routine and I know she had trouble with that in qualification.

:53:36. > :53:41.I think the focus. On the bars, this is where it is going to happen.

:53:41. > :53:51.I think not only will Aliya Mustafina take it, I think she will

:53:51. > :53:53.

:53:53. > :54:03.overtake it by a mob. -- by a long way. A very good total for a first-

:54:03. > :54:10.

:54:20. > :54:58.

:54:58. > :55:03.be the most difficult but she was very happy to have got through.

:55:03. > :55:13.12.7 in qualification. Looked a lot clean that then. You get some idea

:55:13. > :55:38.

:55:38. > :55:48.hit their dead handstand. If she does, she gets more marks than if

:55:48. > :55:56.

:55:56. > :56:01.she was a bit off. They only competition so far. It is never

:56:01. > :56:11.easy to start on beam but it is even more difficult to finish on

:56:11. > :56:11.

:56:11. > :57:35.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:57:35. > :57:41.difficult. It does not look spectacular because it does not

:57:41. > :57:49.rise higher but you have to rotate away from the beam. That was a good

:57:49. > :57:59.performance. She has had a very good and clean competition. You can

:57:59. > :58:18.

:58:18. > :58:25.see the acrobatic skills you are tiny, if your two feet can

:58:25. > :58:35.stand together on the beam, it is quite a lot easier. Much better

:58:35. > :58:49.

:58:49. > :58:59.than her qualification for Diana on the big stage, it is this

:58:59. > :59:34.

:59:34. > :59:41.ahead of that score. She will want to post a score that cannot be

:59:41. > :59:51.caught. Larisa Iordache from Romania. The lead all the way

:59:51. > :00:20.

:00:20. > :00:30.but she got the link. She is fighting and giving it everything.

:00:30. > :00:33.

:00:33. > :00:39.Here we go. Not a flicker. A much better routine. There were errors.

:00:39. > :00:49.A bit of loss of form in the back when she transferred to the routine

:00:49. > :00:49.

:00:49. > :00:56.in part. She needs 12.466 to take the lead. De DEC the flicker in the

:00:56. > :01:01.legs. -- did you see be flicker in the legs? I am sure the judges will

:01:01. > :01:05.not miss that. They will not miss it but I think she made a big

:01:05. > :01:15.mistake on it in qualifying so she will have been pleased to achieve

:01:15. > :01:25.it. The dismount was secure and well landed. She had built herself

:01:25. > :01:26.

:01:26. > :01:33.a big lead. Whatever she gets, Mustafina needs to be 0.8 better.

:01:33. > :01:43.Are I would want at least two marks in the lead! The other Russian

:01:43. > :01:43.

:01:43. > :03:08.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:03:08. > :03:14.apparatus. But it is very easy to Whatever the scores, she has done

:03:14. > :03:20.her job in front of her home crowd. Very delighted for her. We have

:03:20. > :03:25.seen have as a gymnast with ups and downs but to date is an up. A great

:03:25. > :03:35.performance. A lot of pressure going on to the beam. What style

:03:35. > :03:43.

:03:43. > :03:53.and grace. It was so nice to watch It was a tiny bit slow. You could

:03:53. > :04:08.

:04:08. > :04:18.to spare but she cannot afford to fall. One mistake could cost her

:04:18. > :04:18.

:04:18. > :04:22.the title. She needs anything above 14.533 to steal it. How upsetting

:04:22. > :04:31.is that to be a gymnast, to lead or through the competition and to lose

:04:31. > :04:41.on the last piece of apparatus? But she has to do the routine. She is

:04:41. > :04:57.

:04:57. > :05:07.the Olympic champion on the ace element to another which makes the

:05:07. > :05:25.

:05:25. > :05:32.difference in the difficult to shuffle on the landing. What a

:05:32. > :05:36.performance. What pressure. She still doesn't look happy with that.

:05:36. > :05:41.She is such a perfectionist. She will be thinking it could have been

:05:41. > :05:48.a bit better but she knows in her heart that is good enough. From the

:05:48. > :05:57.first move to me it set it out. She banged into bat handstand. Just

:05:57. > :06:02.watch a master at work. I think she performed immensely. The European

:06:03. > :06:12.champions should be a walk in the park, if I dare say so. What a

:06:13. > :06:13.

:06:13. > :06:55.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:06:55. > :06:58.a fabulous results. She is such an accomplished gymnast. And all-round

:06:59. > :07:05.gymnast. There is not a piece of apparatus she cannot perform well

:07:05. > :07:11.on. A great performance. She will be a lot happier with that

:07:11. > :07:17.performance. She has held herself well. She has the confidence to

:07:17. > :07:27.know she can go into a piece like the bars last which gives you a

:07:27. > :07:29.

:07:29. > :07:32.real boost. A well deserved winner today I think. Absolutely. We have

:07:33. > :07:37.witnessed on the public stage high- rise as a great junior. She got a

:07:37. > :07:42.terrible injury, fought back from the injury and came back when she

:07:42. > :07:48.was not really on top of her work. We have seen have gradually come

:07:48. > :07:53.right back to being right on top of her work. But also Larisa Iordache

:07:53. > :07:57.as well, I must say. She did not have a great Olympics. She was

:07:57. > :08:04.suffering from injury. It is fabulous to see her so confident

:08:04. > :08:08.here. Yes, unfortunately, the bars did let her down at the end of the

:08:08. > :08:12.day. I am sure in the back of your mind you know you're going up

:08:12. > :08:18.against the Olympic champion on that piece of apparatus, it does

:08:18. > :08:25.throw a bit of doubt into your mind and knock your confidence. But she

:08:25. > :08:32.gave it Harrall. It is something she has got to be pleased with. A

:08:32. > :08:40.silver in the all round, not eight Bad Day at the office. They all

:08:40. > :08:43.worked at their best. That is what you want from a gymnastic

:08:43. > :08:49.competition. You want to see everybody work at their best and

:08:49. > :08:56.the best gymnast come out at the top. I am really impressed with the

:08:56. > :09:00.Swiss gymnast, Giulia Steingruber in 4th. That has got to be a

:09:00. > :09:10.massive improvement. A yes, she had upped her work considerably since

:09:10. > :09:13.

:09:13. > :09:20.the Olympics. There were a Kubica - - there were a few bits that she

:09:20. > :09:25.was pleased to do competitive live. A clean sweep so far for the

:09:25. > :09:31.Russians, overall champion in the men earlier today and in the

:09:31. > :09:35.Women's there. Absolutely. We did not see Ruby Harrold on floor but

:09:35. > :09:45.she's got 13.4 which puts Tarin eighth position which is a

:09:45. > :10:06.

:10:06. > :10:13.fantastic achievement. Top 10. about winning a title in your home

:10:13. > :10:17.country. I guess the guys in the studio will agree that to win a

:10:17. > :10:24.medal in your own country when the pressure is on is a really special

:10:24. > :10:30.feeling. I certainly think the occasion and the home support have

:10:30. > :10:35.really helped her in this competition. As we said earlier,

:10:35. > :10:41.sometimes the home support can be a pressure but on this occasion it

:10:41. > :10:46.was definitely an asset. De gymnasts rose to that situation.

:10:46. > :10:51.They can do this, they train hard and they can do the routines many

:10:51. > :10:56.times over. If you know you can do your work, the support of the home

:10:56. > :11:00.crowd, as was seen with our gymnasts and athletes that the

:11:00. > :11:05.London Olympics, it was a really big asset to them. Larisa Iordache

:11:05. > :11:10.is definitely a bit disappointed. She gave it her everything. She

:11:10. > :11:15.knows she needs to go back and work hard. There is Ruby Harrold

:11:15. > :11:24.delighted with her performance. Some work to be done on the Bar's

:11:24. > :11:31.there. 13.833 against Mustafina at 15.133. It was a massive jump on

:11:31. > :11:37.the ace metric bars there. -- on the asymmetric bars. The you can

:11:37. > :11:41.see great comradeship between all the gymnasts. They have competed

:11:41. > :11:46.together, a lot of respect for each other and every gymnast works

:11:46. > :11:52.exceptionally hard. You are not able to be at this level without

:11:52. > :11:57.giving your whole life to it really. A lot of these gymnasts will have

:11:57. > :12:01.trained with other gymnasts from other parts of the country. We used

:12:01. > :12:06.to have training camps abroad with the French and the Russians. You

:12:06. > :12:11.get a real camaraderie. When you go to competitions you want to win but

:12:11. > :12:21.there is a real sense of comradeship and congratulating the

:12:21. > :12:35.

:12:35. > :12:45.the women's all around the European Championships. Aliya Mustafina,

:12:45. > :13:08.

:13:08. > :13:13.is well inside the top 10. Charlie Mustafina could do it and she did.

:13:14. > :13:19.Yes, she is a very mature and experienced competitor now. She has

:13:19. > :13:29.been there, done that and she knew what she needed to dig on all four

:13:29. > :13:29.

:13:30. > :13:35.It is slightly gutting for Larisa Iordache to be leading for three

:13:35. > :13:39.pieces and then suddenly... She obviously knew it was coming.

:13:39. > :13:45.must have known bars was not her great peas but she gave herself

:13:45. > :13:48.every opportunity to hold on to the lead. I think it was set up for

:13:48. > :13:54.Mustafina in Russia. She was last up in the competition. She deserved

:13:54. > :13:59.it. And Giulia Steingruber worth a mention. We said it halfway through

:13:59. > :14:06.she has had her best piece of apparatus and she kept that

:14:06. > :14:11.consistency. She really impressed me. She showed she is right up

:14:11. > :14:17.there. She is definitely one to watch over the next couple of years.

:14:17. > :14:23.Have vaults and floor work were amazing. It is great to see her

:14:23. > :14:27.asymmetric bars have improved as well. She is one to watch. It is a

:14:27. > :14:30.different discipline being an all- round gymnast as opposed to being a

:14:30. > :14:34.specialist. For some delight Giulia Steingruber to work on those other

:14:34. > :14:40.pieces, suddenly she's up there with the best in the world as well

:14:40. > :14:47.as being a strong vaulter. That shows a true athlete. The ones who

:14:47. > :14:50.can do the all-round and find a specialist peas and work on it

:14:50. > :14:56.individually. She has done well to be up there with the Russians and

:14:56. > :15:01.Romanians. She has done wonders for Switzerland and putting gymnastics

:15:01. > :15:06.on the map in her country. Larisa Iordache, is it a case of

:15:06. > :15:11.going back to the gym to hammer the bar work? As a said before,

:15:11. > :15:14.Romanians are not known for their bar work. I'm sure they work just

:15:14. > :15:18.as hard on that piece as every other piece, it just does not come

:15:18. > :15:23.as naturally. I am sure she will be back in the gym working really hard

:15:23. > :15:29.trying to improve that score. Mustafina, she is a beautiful

:15:29. > :15:34.gymnast, that goes without question, style and elegance all the way

:15:34. > :15:41.through. Not Justin had our work but floor work as well. Look at the

:15:41. > :15:45.height that she gets. She is really impressive on floor. Very neat and

:15:46. > :15:55.tidy and clean. There is not much deduction you can take on her floor

:15:56. > :16:10.

:16:10. > :16:16.She knew that finishing on bars was good for her because it is her best

:16:16. > :16:21.piece. And she was last up in her own country, in Russia. She will

:16:21. > :16:28.have been feeling the pressure. So to go through the way she did is

:16:28. > :16:38.You have that difficulty of how difficult you go against how

:16:38. > :16:43.beautiful you go. I guess in the gym, you are constantly working

:16:43. > :16:48.more difficult moves but you have got to be able to execute them.

:16:48. > :16:53.Aliya Mustafina has always had the heart start values and the

:16:53. > :16:57.difficult skills but as well as that, she has always been able to

:16:57. > :17:02.perform them a beautifully and artistically with very few

:17:02. > :17:08.deductions. Do you think she knew as soon as she landed, up Larisa

:17:08. > :17:17.Iordache? That she was opening the door? I think she knew it wasn't

:17:17. > :17:27.her best. There were a few tactical errors and deductions that she knew

:17:27. > :17:28.

:17:28. > :17:33.-- her score. You will get to see a lot of that again in the individual

:17:33. > :17:43.apparatus finals. They start for us again tomorrow. You cannot see us

:17:43. > :17:59.

:17:59. > :18:05.-- you can join us on the red What is successful qualification

:18:05. > :18:11.this has been. We wondered if there would be a bit of a hangover for

:18:11. > :18:16.the Olympics but for Great Britain to come and make so many finals.

:18:16. > :18:20.Definitely and it is great to see some new names. Lots of people will

:18:20. > :18:25.not have heard of Ashley Watson and he has had lots of injuries. He has

:18:25. > :18:32.been really unlucky the last few years. He has had some injury

:18:32. > :18:36.setbacks but he has kept going and he has made the high bar final and

:18:36. > :18:40.it is a special routine so he has every chance. Can he keep his

:18:40. > :18:45.composure because he has not had that much experience of the world

:18:45. > :18:52.stage? There will be a lack of experience but the other lads will

:18:52. > :18:59.be trying to keep him calm, for him not to be looking for a medal but

:18:59. > :19:04.to try to enjoy the experience. If he does well, it opens the door for

:19:04. > :19:14.big internationals. If Max of the pommel horse, second highest

:19:14. > :19:15.

:19:15. > :19:25.qualifier behind your good mate, in This is his all-around performance

:19:25. > :19:33.

:19:33. > :19:37.He bends his legs, that gets him very close to Christian Berkeley.

:19:37. > :19:47.The only thing you could possibly take off his his hands are not in

:19:47. > :19:47.

:19:47. > :19:53.line. Where you put one hand in front of the other. Yes. You can

:19:53. > :19:57.get a 10th of each circle, which can amount to quite a lot.

:19:57. > :20:06.Literally, when it comes down to it, he has so much potential on the

:20:06. > :20:11.pommel horse and it is fine-tuning. This was his final piece of

:20:11. > :20:17.apparatus, the rings. Not the strongest of pieces but was it a

:20:17. > :20:22.good one for him to finish on? think it was safe. You do not

:20:23. > :20:27.really make too many mistakes on rings. For him it is better than

:20:27. > :20:35.finishing on pommel horse and a high bar. It was a stable peace to

:20:35. > :20:39.finish on. It is the random draw. You don't know where you will end

:20:39. > :20:45.up finishing. It was a phenomenal all-around performance from him and

:20:45. > :20:50.it was that method which he said, I was see what happens, and if you

:20:50. > :21:00.now them at this level, it is surprising what can happen -- if

:21:00. > :21:01.

:21:01. > :21:05.you Rik Mayall them. Exactly and he He really could do great things for

:21:05. > :21:10.Great Britain in this sport and this is hopefully a platform on to

:21:10. > :21:12.bigger and better things. You have bigger and better things. You have

:21:12. > :21:17.made everybody realise what is possible and all the younger

:21:17. > :21:27.gymnasts that are coming through. Look at the juniors. The strength

:21:27. > :21:32.within the British team. It is incredibly exciting. The whole

:21:32. > :21:38.point is to get the ball rolling. We wanted to encourage the kids and

:21:38. > :21:45.show what is possible. The fact we can see Max and Ashley making

:21:45. > :21:50.finals is brilliant. Congratulations, you first senior

:21:50. > :21:57.European medal. Thank you. I am really happy with that. My aim was

:21:57. > :22:01.to do a clean routine and I did that so I am really happy. You are

:22:01. > :22:07.the highest qualifier in the qualifications coming into the

:22:07. > :22:11.final but you were right up there. I am very happy with that score. I

:22:11. > :22:19.am aiming for a bit higher but I am really happy with that, six clean

:22:19. > :22:26.routines. For me to go into that in first place shows to myself that I

:22:26. > :22:30.have got the potential. Whitlock finished behind David

:22:30. > :22:36.Bailey Laski, who took the gold medal, and we can look at the

:22:36. > :22:41.women's ceremony now -- David Belyavskiy. Aliya Mustafina got the

:22:41. > :22:45.gold, Larisa Iordache got the silver and Anastasia Grishina got

:22:45. > :22:51.the bronze. For Russia to receive these medals in front of a home

:22:51. > :22:57.crowd, you know more than anybody what that feels like. I have never

:22:57. > :23:04.experienced an atmosphere like it. It is a very stressful environment

:23:04. > :23:08.but then it is so rewarding when you do do well. It is fantastic.

:23:08. > :23:14.Larisa Iordache was leading for three of the apparatus but had to

:23:14. > :23:18.settle for silver. A sterling performance for her. No doubt now

:23:18. > :23:23.it is this not after dismount, release and catch, release and

:23:23. > :23:33.catch, and somebody who knows all about that is the Olympic champion

:23:33. > :23:38.

:23:38. > :23:48.Aliya Mustafina. She takes the gold What a moment, to take that gold

:23:48. > :23:52.

:23:52. > :23:57.medal alongside David Belyavskiy e What do you do with the flowers?

:23:57. > :24:02.normally give them to my mum! But if I am going to be a way for a

:24:02. > :24:10.while, I throw them into the crowd. If I spot a nice lady, I give them

:24:11. > :24:15.to her! I give them to be cleaner in the hotel. I am sure Aliya

:24:15. > :24:22.Mustafina's mother will probably get them. It must be special to be

:24:22. > :24:32.crowned European champions in front of that home crowd. An there is the

:24:32. > :24:33.

:24:33. > :24:41.top eight. Giulia Steingruber did so well, didn't she. The Italian
