:00:30. > :00:34.Hello, and welcome to highlights of the European Gymnastics

:00:34. > :00:38.Championships. Now, the British team out in Moscow had a storming

:00:38. > :00:43.qualification, with our gymnasts taking 13 places in the finals. Our

:00:43. > :00:50.medal count started on Friday with a silver in the men's all-around

:00:50. > :00:55.competition, and this is how Max Whitlock did it. So all our eyes,

:00:55. > :01:04.then, on 20-year-old Max Whitlock. He's fabulous at twisting, flips on

:01:04. > :01:09.lovely high - oh. Costly landing. What a cracking routine for Max.

:01:09. > :01:17.Max Whitlock now up into third. his moves are done with great flair.

:01:17. > :01:23.A really efficient routine from Max there. Oh, we like that. Round of

:01:23. > :01:27.triple twists - what a cracking routine. Well done, Max.

:01:27. > :01:35.A cracking routine indeed. Come on, Max. Building the difficulty all

:01:35. > :01:43.the time - well done, Max. He's there. He's in contention! He knows

:01:43. > :01:46.he has to do the routine of his life. A great route own, job done.

:01:47. > :01:50.Great work from Max, fantastic competition, second in Europe, a

:01:50. > :01:54.fantastic achievement, Max. What a competition to have witnessed, and

:01:54. > :01:59.it was the highest placing ever for a British gymnast at the Europeans

:01:59. > :02:05.in the all-around competition, and this is how Max summed it all up.

:02:05. > :02:07.My aim was go out there and do a clean routineed a hopefully a

:02:07. > :02:11.similar routine to the qualification round. I am happy to

:02:11. > :02:15.do that so I am happy with the silver medal. In the past people

:02:15. > :02:19.have seen you as a pommel horse specialist, obviously, on the

:02:19. > :02:23.ground. You have take and massive leap forward since the Olympics.

:02:23. > :02:27.That's what I wanted to do. During the Olympics I wanted to go out and

:02:27. > :02:31.prove myself as an all-arounder. This is my first all-around in

:02:31. > :02:34.major competition. It was really good, and to come up with a medal -

:02:34. > :02:38.that's really what I was hopefully aiming for. I am delighted to say

:02:38. > :02:44.that joining me this afternoon are two British Olympians. We have

:02:44. > :02:47.Jennifer Pinches and three-times Olympic medallist Lewis Smith. A

:02:47. > :02:50.phenomenal performance from Max, it goes without saying, but Daniel

:02:50. > :02:55.Purvis as well, he also placed incredibly high with a fifth. Did

:02:55. > :02:59.you expect that from Dan? It's nice the see Dan back on the up. I have

:02:59. > :03:02.been talking to him at the Olympic Games. He said he wasn't quite on

:03:02. > :03:07.form. He wasn't at his best. He has had a bit of a dip. Why do you

:03:07. > :03:10.think he didn't quite hit it? had a hard couple of years towards

:03:10. > :03:13.the Olympic games. He did every competition there was going. I

:03:14. > :03:18.think he peaked a little bit too early, but he seems very motivated.

:03:18. > :03:22.He's back training hard now, and he did well at the European Gymnastics

:03:22. > :03:25.Championships. I am happy for him. You're taking a bit of a break from

:03:25. > :03:33.the sport. You have been climbing mountains and all sorts since 2012?

:03:33. > :03:39.Yeah, after the Olympics I went on a two-month volunteering - know I

:03:39. > :03:42.am back in school and living a bit more of an average life. Are you?

:03:42. > :03:46.Ruby Harrold is out flying the flag for Great Britain at the moment.

:03:46. > :03:50.She got the highest ever placing in Europe for Britain's women. She's

:03:50. > :03:53.filling the shoes. Yeah, she has done fantastically. I think she

:03:53. > :03:57.came into this competition aiming to do well on the bars. That was

:03:57. > :04:02.her main aim, but she's done really well in the all-around competition

:04:02. > :04:05.and not only qualified for the bar final, but for the beam final. So

:04:05. > :04:09.yeah. Charlie Fellows, the first year of senior competition for her.

:04:09. > :04:13.Another new experience for her being in the senior European

:04:13. > :04:16.Championships but she's done really well again, came 18th in the all-

:04:16. > :04:20.around final, definitely got some potential for the future. Coming

:04:20. > :04:24.into this championships there was a lot of talk about a certain Gabby

:04:24. > :04:28.Jupp. But qualification - it was a real shame for her because she was

:04:28. > :04:31.on form in the first senior British. Definitely. Last month she won the

:04:31. > :04:36.British Championships. She has been looking absolutely amazing, and

:04:36. > :04:38.then it was really unfortunate just at the end of this fantastic theme

:04:38. > :04:44.routine in which she would have qualified for the final, she just

:04:44. > :04:47.seemed to, as you see there, grab her knee. They have flown her home

:04:47. > :04:51.back to the UK for further medical... We're still waiting to

:04:51. > :04:55.hear from the outcome of that'll be. What a trajectory she was on. Let's

:04:55. > :04:58.just hope it's not going to be too serious. My thoughts are with her.

:04:58. > :05:01.We're now concentrating on the specialists. We're going to focus

:05:01. > :05:07.on the finals with British interests, of course, so let's have

:05:07. > :05:11.a look at our finalists, so we've got on the floor Max Whitlock and

:05:11. > :05:14.Sam Oldham on even bars, Rebecca Tunney - we'll talk more about her

:05:14. > :05:24.as the evening progresses as well as Ruby Harrold, who we were just

:05:24. > :05:31.

:05:31. > :05:40.So we are going to start with the men's floor, but before we see any

:05:40. > :05:43.of the action, let's hear from Sam We go to competitions expected to

:05:43. > :05:49.winned meas. We're not just going there to compete, so yeah, there is

:05:49. > :05:52.a lot of expectation, but we change the game day in and day out all the

:05:52. > :05:56.time now, and everyone is just striving to get on the team. It's

:05:56. > :05:59.almost harder to get on the team than sometimes it is to qualify for

:05:59. > :06:03.these finals that can only be a good thing for British gymnastics.

:06:03. > :06:07.The floor has improved a lot for me. I have improved my difficulty and

:06:07. > :06:10.it has been going really well over the last couple of months. I think

:06:10. > :06:14.all the guys on the floor are quite close in scores and in qualifying

:06:14. > :06:17.and star values as well. I think it will be really difficult, but

:06:18. > :06:22.hopefully we can go out there and do great routines and try to stick

:06:22. > :06:26.a few landings and see if we can grab a medal or two. Grab a medal

:06:26. > :06:35.or two - sounding very, very optimistic! And there's the start

:06:35. > :06:38.Is it good news to be going out first? I think the good thing for

:06:38. > :06:46.Max is he's consistent. Though he's first, he can almost set the

:06:46. > :06:49.standard, which is a good place to Alexander Shatilov is always worth

:06:49. > :06:54.the mention. He's an enormous gymnast. He's pretty much going in

:06:54. > :06:59.the middle of the pack with Sam Oldham. Two gymnasts follow him.

:06:59. > :07:06.Let's get into action. Joining me is Christine Still and former

:07:06. > :07:16.Here we go, then, first floor finalist, Great Britain's Max

:07:16. > :07:17.

:07:17. > :07:27.three-and-a-half, tuck, full twist. Second tumble, two-and-a-half, one-

:07:27. > :07:33.

:07:33. > :07:37.and-a-half, nailed. Such precise new cord - the gymnasts only

:07:37. > :07:47.allowed to perform one of those - into the flair work, back up into

:07:47. > :07:55.

:07:55. > :08:04.flairs, down into flairs, air great control, takes a slight

:08:04. > :08:10.breath. The handspring, two-and-a- half twist, yet again another great

:08:10. > :08:15.landing, showing great composure and maturity. Preparing for the

:08:15. > :08:21.final tumble, roundoff triple twist, a great way to start the final.

:08:21. > :08:25.What a start indeed. He scored a 15.466 in qualification. He upped

:08:25. > :08:30.that in the all-around final to a 15.5, which would be enough, I

:08:30. > :08:34.think, to take gold, certainly for a medal, Chris. It was a great

:08:34. > :08:41.opening - it was difficult for us to see, but I think on this first

:08:41. > :08:46.tumble that he did just hop out of the floor. We saw the red flag go

:08:46. > :08:50.up. We'll wait for confirmation of that. That's a fantastic tumble as

:08:50. > :08:56.well, that two-and-a-half twist forwards. Just wonderful style.

:08:56. > :09:00.He's got such a great future ahead of him at 20 years old, Chris. Oh!

:09:00. > :09:03.That's the little bit they wanted to capture. He has. He has a

:09:03. > :09:07.fantastic future, and he's very cool, very calm. We saw yesterday

:09:07. > :09:12.he made a little bit of an error, not a huge error, but a little bit

:09:12. > :09:15.of an error on his first piece. He didn't let it throw him. Many

:09:15. > :09:19.gymnasts - we saw the Ukrainian gymnast - once an error was in

:09:19. > :09:24.there, they sort of fell apart a little bit, but Max, no, just

:09:24. > :09:31.battled on through. He really has got a great temperament. It's a

:09:31. > :09:40.score of 15.333 - .1 penalty. that was great, just the .1. Will

:09:40. > :09:44.it be enough for a medal? We'll have to wait and see. What does

:09:44. > :09:48.Alexander Shatilov have to say about this, a vastly experienced

:09:48. > :09:55.gymnast? We have watched him for many a year, a huge lad. He will

:09:55. > :10:00.twist and work his way around the court. Thing is, if you're a tall

:10:00. > :10:07.gymnast and can really harness it, you look so elegant. Now, that was

:10:07. > :10:12.how to do a front somersault, half- turn, wasn't it, a little kick out.

:10:12. > :10:19.Whoa! Double twisting, double tuck, and because he's tall, he can't

:10:19. > :10:29.take a great, long run, just calm of steps into every roundoff - two-

:10:29. > :10:44.

:10:44. > :10:49.and-a-half, front somersault with that exit out of a tumble once.

:10:49. > :10:54.They're only allowed to roll out once. That was his. It was very

:10:54. > :10:58.clean, well executed. A full twisting double back to finish,

:10:58. > :11:02.just a tiny hop. That is a challenge, I think. He made it look

:11:02. > :11:07.easy. He absolutely did, and he's got quite a high difficulty value.

:11:07. > :11:13.Yeah, it was a very precise routine. He's probably the best we have seen

:11:13. > :11:19.so far on the landings. And you can see there at the start very precise,

:11:19. > :11:23.nailed there, stepped back into the corner. He had a great balance of

:11:23. > :11:27.routine with combination, then the double twisting, double back and a

:11:27. > :11:34.full in, back out, a really, really good routine, and for me, I think

:11:34. > :11:40.that might just go into the lead. You can see there - that is the

:11:40. > :11:46.full in, back out, slight hop back for a 10th, but very, very precise.

:11:46. > :11:51.His start value we think is .1 lower than Max has gone into the

:11:51. > :11:55.lead with, 15.333 - he's tied with Max Whitlock at the moment, and

:11:55. > :12:02.here we go with Sam Oldham, part of the bronze medal-winning team at

:12:02. > :12:10.the Olympics. Another very bright young star of British gymnastics.

:12:10. > :12:16.Oh, just held that in, I think. A difficult combination to start with

:12:16. > :12:26.- half into double - fight, fight, Sam. He does. But there will be

:12:26. > :12:34.

:12:34. > :12:39.He's a naturally really precise extended gymnast. He's just

:12:39. > :12:49.struggling slightly with these landings today. But here you can

:12:49. > :13:10.

:13:10. > :13:16.see toes pointed, legs straight, we go. Triple - he's cleanly around,

:13:16. > :13:25.but he really has given a 10th or so away on every single landing.

:13:25. > :13:29.needs over 14.666 for a medal at this stage. He twists absolutely

:13:29. > :13:34.fantastic. He does a great execution there, as she said, on

:13:34. > :13:40.the roll-out. He's kicking out. He looks elegant, but just can't hold

:13:40. > :13:43.it together with the landings, and that'll cost him with the

:13:43. > :13:46.deductions. You know, demonstrating great flair work there, toes

:13:46. > :13:56.pointed, flair up into the handspring, dropping back down into

:13:56. > :14:02.flair. What do we think here as a sceer? -- score? He qualified with

:14:02. > :14:06.a 15.3 - no, that'll be costly. See, if they think that was only a 2.5,

:14:06. > :14:13.which they might do, then he loses his dismount because he's already

:14:13. > :14:23.completed a two-and-a-half somewhere else. Just outside the

:14:23. > :14:32.

:14:32. > :14:37.medals there and a 14.4 for Sam the last two European Championships.

:14:37. > :14:43.He finished 46th on floor and 42nd. He has done remarkably well to get

:14:43. > :14:53.here in the top eight. A very clean opening tumble, second tumble, the

:14:53. > :14:53.

:14:53. > :15:35.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:15:35. > :15:40.roll-out in the straight position, straight half with ease. Into the Do

:15:40. > :15:47.is the final tumble. Round off triple twist. One little step. A

:15:48. > :15:57.great routine. That could push up into the medals. He got a 15. A

:15:58. > :16:11.

:16:11. > :16:16.15.166 for qualification. 6-2 Many of them are doing

:16:16. > :16:20.two-and-a-half into front fall, so their tumble half will be given more

:16:20. > :16:25.marks. But you always have to marry it with the control and not getting

:16:25. > :16:29.the deductions. When I say the two-and-a-half into full is worth

:16:29. > :16:33.perhaps 0. 0.2 moreness that the one-and-a-half into front half. If

:16:33. > :16:40.you are going to take a big step, you will lose big points. This is

:16:40. > :16:50.why a Teddy routine like this will often win out. 14. 14.9 is enough

:16:50. > :16:54.

:16:54. > :16:59.Alexander Shatilov. Double celebration for them. Wonderful for

:17:00. > :17:08.Max to get the gold. The first time Shatilov has a gold on the floor of

:17:08. > :17:13.the European Championships. What a story for Cingolani, who takes

:17:13. > :17:18.bronze. Alexander Shatilov and Great Britain's Max Whitlock take gold in

:17:18. > :17:22.the men's floor final. It has been a great two days of

:17:22. > :17:28.competition for Max Whitlock. Yesterday he received the men's

:17:28. > :17:38.all-around silver. Today he's got a gold medal hanging round his neck.

:17:38. > :17:38.

:17:38. > :18:56.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:18:57. > :19:01.Ladies and gentlemen, the national well at this stage? The all-around

:19:01. > :19:04.first and ratus final... He has always had the potential. He's such

:19:04. > :19:09.a talented kid. We have always known he could do very well at

:19:09. > :19:13.levels like this. It's nice to see him fulfilling that, and it's

:19:13. > :19:17.brilliant. Like I said, he didn't expect to get the gold, but he is

:19:17. > :19:21.crowned world champion on floor. shares it with Alexander Shatilov.

:19:21. > :19:26.It's a very controversial point, this, because at European level

:19:26. > :19:30.you're allowed to share the medals, but at world, Olympic medal, as you

:19:30. > :19:34.have experienced, even if you have the same score, execution comes

:19:34. > :19:39.over difficulty, and there you can see Krisztian Berki took the gold

:19:39. > :19:41.in 2012. You took the silver, but did get the same score. It's a

:19:41. > :19:47.difficult question to ask you because obviously you passionately

:19:47. > :19:52.want the gold, but how do you think European gymnastics compares on

:19:52. > :19:56.that point? It makes sense - if first place has the same scores,

:19:56. > :20:00.then it makes stones give them both the gold medal. It does. The code

:20:00. > :20:04.in the last cycle was developed that you push to do the most

:20:04. > :20:07.difficult - you make the routine more exciting, yet when you're tied

:20:07. > :20:10.for score, they use that as a disadvantage, so they used your

:20:10. > :20:20.high start scores and big scores against you. So it doesn't really

:20:20. > :20:31.

:20:31. > :20:38.alongside L arcs is was Becky Downie, but I'm delighted to say

:20:38. > :20:43.that Becky is back. I've done numerous finals between

:20:43. > :20:47.4th and 8th. I've had mistakes and after having too many set-backs I've

:20:47. > :20:52.worked really hard. I've been waiting for a long time for this

:20:52. > :20:57.moment. Hopefully it goes well. I'm going to give it my best shot. It is

:20:57. > :21:04.nice to have the team alongside you. Me and Ruby know we really came here

:21:04. > :21:08.for bars. Ruby has done great in qualifications and getting further,

:21:08. > :21:13.but we knew we wanted to hit the routines and get into the final. We

:21:13. > :21:16.are both really happy we've done that. I came to the European

:21:16. > :21:21.Championships to focus on the bar final, because I've got some unique

:21:21. > :21:28.combinations. I was hoping that it would be enough to make another bar

:21:28. > :21:34.final like I did last year. My coach came up with the idea of a new

:21:34. > :21:41.combination that has never done before. I go from top to bottom. It

:21:41. > :21:49.gives me quite a high bonus. Everybody's talking about that move.

:21:49. > :21:58.She calls it the Schloerdn but you call it unique. It is definitely

:21:58. > :22:04.different. It is difficult to whip around such rotation and pot it.

:22:04. > :22:14.Straight up and straight back down to the low bar. It is lovely to Dee

:22:14. > :22:20.Rebecca back. She won the British bar title last month as was -- and

:22:20. > :22:30.was looking brilliant. She's is out there to medal. This is the order

:22:30. > :22:35.

:22:35. > :22:41.Do you think Becky will be able to hold her nerve? It will be a

:22:41. > :22:49.difficult task. Aliya is Olympic champion. She doesn't buckle under

:22:49. > :22:59.pressure. And in front of her home crowd in Moscow. Exactly. She will

:22:59. > :23:05.

:23:05. > :23:15.want to pull out a brilliant in the all round. Watch this bar

:23:15. > :23:15.

:23:15. > :24:09.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:24:09. > :24:16.once you've fallen. How do you pull through that absolutely clean, but

:24:16. > :24:22.she just mistimed the shoot-down. Two D elements together. Apart from

:24:22. > :24:28.that moment it was incredibly dynamic wasn't it? Very dynamic.

:24:28. > :24:34.Very interesting bar work as well. Great flight there, transfer to the

:24:34. > :24:38.shop bar. Just pops off a little bit too early, misses the handstand and

:24:38. > :24:45.ended up coming down the wrong way. One split second later and it what

:24:45. > :24:52.have been perfect. A very exciting gymnast and something that is

:24:52. > :25:02.exciting for the future. Ruby's also in the beam final.

:25:02. > :25:04.

:25:04. > :25:09.will be disappointed with this. 12. 12.9. All eyes now focussing on

:25:10. > :25:19.the Olympic champion, Aliya Mustafina. She took gold in the

:25:20. > :25:46.

:25:46. > :25:52.That was a really efficient routine. Goodness! Potential for a couple of

:25:52. > :25:58.tens but you can't deduct more than that can you? Even the dismount,

:25:58. > :26:03.straight to the finish. Bang! That's how you land an uneven bars routine.

:26:03. > :26:08.It was a confident routine from the start. The stews from the

:26:08. > :26:15.all-around. A stooping full turn bang into handstand. There's the on

:26:15. > :26:25.and off up to the top bar with the half turn. Highest difficulty. Look

:26:25. > :26:32.at that, toes pointed. That's the tricky combination. Most gymnasts

:26:32. > :26:37.add an extra in the middle. All those pirouettes so clean. Straight

:26:37. > :26:44.up into the half turn. APPLAUSE

:26:44. > :26:53.15. 15.3. An enormous score that puts Aliya Mustafina well ahead of

:26:53. > :27:02.the rest of the field. It is an epic score to try to beat. Great

:27:02. > :27:12.Britain's Becky Downie qualified with 14. 14.733. How wonderful to

:27:12. > :27:13.

:27:13. > :27:23.see her back. Oh. She uprised straight into the

:27:23. > :27:24.

:27:24. > :27:34.Tkachev. So disappointed with herself. Huge difficulty. She needs

:27:34. > :28:03.

:28:03. > :28:09.A wonderful demonstration of what Becky is capable of there. It was

:28:10. > :28:14.just that blink of an eye moment and suddenly it's all gone. It was a

:28:15. > :28:22.very difficult combination she was doing, but she isally wibble to do

:28:22. > :28:26.it -- she is well able to do it and has done it many times. These are

:28:26. > :28:32.difficult combinations into the Tkachev. Work of the highest

:28:32. > :28:36.difficulty there. When you go for broke, if things aren't just right,

:28:36. > :28:41.you can be off. She just pulled and her feet went over the bar a little

:28:41. > :28:45.bit too much, which caused her to come away from the bar. She's

:28:45. > :28:51.obviously been putting in an incredible amount of work in the gym

:28:51. > :29:01.to get back. She was obviously, that moment aside, routine. Brilliantly

:29:01. > :29:32.

:29:32. > :29:41.performed. 13 scored puts her in into the next element, a nice

:29:41. > :29:49.pirouette, a big, high Tkatchev. Super, super style, building her

:29:49. > :29:52.difficulty, nothing too enormous, just very clean, tidy work, swings

:29:52. > :29:59.beautifully, and that double straight was very nice indeed. That

:29:59. > :30:06.was a truly classy routine. Well, to get up into the medals, she

:30:06. > :30:12.needs over 14.066. Well, she qualified with a 14.3, so I would

:30:12. > :30:18.suspect that that routine is well able to medal there. I agree with

:30:19. > :30:25.you, what a lovely routine, and you can see here great height and

:30:25. > :30:34.flight to the top bar, swings back, spots the bottom bar there, into

:30:34. > :30:38.the handspring, great control, back up to the top bar. It's never a

:30:38. > :30:48.flicker of bent legs, is there? It's really stylish work. She could

:30:48. > :30:53.even push for a silver here. could even look at this - kicks up,

:30:53. > :31:00.great extension, form, what a lovely routine. Like you said, it's

:31:00. > :31:05.looking for over 14.066 for a bronze, 14.366 for a silver. It is

:31:05. > :31:09.a silver. It's 14.633. APPLAUSE

:31:09. > :31:15.Jonna Adlerteg goes into silver medal place with one gymnast

:31:15. > :31:19.remaining, so she's guaranteed a medal. A fantastic story, and

:31:19. > :31:29.really, that was a triumph of style over difficulty. Well, the second

:31:29. > :31:30.

:31:30. > :31:40.Russian in this uneven bars final is Maria Paseka. Starts confidently.

:31:40. > :31:49.

:31:49. > :31:53.Here we are - she's done lots of really complicated moves linked

:31:53. > :31:57.together, a good half turn there, a forward element you have to include

:31:57. > :32:02.- into the double front dismount - good dismount, but were there too

:32:02. > :32:05.many execution errors? You could see right from the word "go" the

:32:06. > :32:10.legs were a little untidy. I have to agree with Christine there. For

:32:10. > :32:16.me, it looked a bit laboured in parts, quite loose in the lower

:32:16. > :32:18.back as well in parts of the routine, soft in the legs. It might

:32:18. > :32:24.just take it because of the difficulty, but we'll have to wait

:32:24. > :32:30.and see. Certainly, there were - you know, if you watch here, legs

:32:30. > :32:36.apart - that sort of thing - lots of openings for the judges to

:32:36. > :32:44.deduct. Yes, not as good a routine as the one we have seen previous.

:32:44. > :32:50.Oh, hang on. That reaction says you've got yourself a bronze - 14.4

:32:50. > :32:55.for Maria Paseka. She stayed with the 5.8 difficulty, so interesting

:32:55. > :32:58.scoring in front of her home crowd. In the absence of the great Beth

:32:58. > :33:04.Tweddle, Olympic champion Aliya Mustafina takes gold in the uneven

:33:04. > :33:14.bars final ahead of Jonna Adlerteg in her first senior final and

:33:14. > :33:15.

:33:15. > :33:20.down to experience. Definitely. Just coming here to

:33:20. > :33:23.compete in a bar final is amazing. I am really disappointed. I have

:33:23. > :33:27.waited a long time for this moment, and it didn't quite come off again

:33:27. > :33:31.today, so it looks like it's going back, picking myself up again and

:33:31. > :33:34.trying for the next one. You can see obviously how much it means for

:33:34. > :33:38.Becky. She's vastly experienced. She has been on the world stage

:33:38. > :33:43.before. She has been there. She has done it, obviously, emotional. It's

:33:43. > :33:45.a big deal at the moment, but how much do you think in the long run

:33:45. > :33:49.this is going to affect her? Definitely disappointing for that

:33:49. > :33:52.final, but as you said, she's an experienced gymnast. She'll be able

:33:52. > :33:57.to pick herself back up, keep training for the next goal. She's

:33:57. > :34:02.more than capable - if she'd done what she did in qualification and

:34:02. > :34:05.caught that reLee, she would have got herself a silver. That moment

:34:05. > :34:09.was sandwiched with the most beautiful moments. You can see as

:34:09. > :34:14.we run through here some of the moves she's got in her armoury.

:34:14. > :34:18.I said, it's a very difficult routine. You can see there all the

:34:18. > :34:22.combinations that she's trying to put together. Yeah.And there is

:34:22. > :34:26.risk involved. I mean, you know her very well, obviously. She's very

:34:26. > :34:30.emotional in her training. Her life is gymnastics. All their lives are

:34:30. > :34:35.gymnastics, but for her, you can either stand back and say, you know,

:34:35. > :34:39.what, another day is coming along, or you can take it to heart, and

:34:40. > :34:44.Becky is one - Yeah, she really puts her heart into everything she

:34:44. > :34:47.does. You can see as soon as she missed that, she was gutted. Yeah.

:34:47. > :34:51.Well, we wish Becky, of course, all the very best with everything.

:34:51. > :34:55.We're now going to move on to the women's vault, and Britain have no-

:34:55. > :35:05.one in the women's vault final, but as it's such an explosive event to

:35:05. > :35:09.

:35:09. > :35:12.watch, then we wanted to show you She has absolute power - the one-

:35:12. > :35:17.and-a-half twist there - it's the difficulty here that really sets

:35:17. > :35:22.her apart, because you can see the height, the way she converts all of

:35:22. > :35:26.that speed into the upward lift. Extremely difficult vault. I should

:35:26. > :35:31.know because I competed this vault in a tucked position in the past,

:35:31. > :35:34.and you need a lot of strength, a lot of power to be landing that

:35:34. > :35:38.vault successfully. She was the highest qualifier. We did expect it,

:35:38. > :35:42.and she was so good as well in the all-arounds, just outside of the

:35:42. > :35:46.medals there, but a fourth place with a gymnast is renowned for just

:35:46. > :35:50.kind of vault and floor - what a performance all around for her.

:35:50. > :35:54.impressed me as well. I have only ever seen her in the vault. We saw

:35:54. > :35:57.her on the floor final. She's going to be amazing, then the all-around

:35:57. > :36:01.- great potential, and I think she's definitely one to watch out

:36:01. > :36:11.for. Well, it is time now to bring on the strong men, so warm up your

:36:11. > :36:23.

:36:23. > :36:29.biceps and join in if you can. This Radivilov - 20 years old, third

:36:29. > :36:34.highest qualifier. That is the ring specialist at work, isn't it? So

:36:34. > :36:43.strong - look at that. Winding up now. Double twisting double back,

:36:43. > :36:51.nailed on the landing! What a routine. 15.466 - going to be up

:36:51. > :37:00.there. Samir Ait Said, the last gymnast in his rings final. Off to

:37:00. > :37:07.a strong start, a nice solid hand stand, into the swinging element.

:37:07. > :37:15.A full twisting double straight - nailed the dismount. Oh! Oh, my

:37:15. > :37:19.goodness me! He's gone into gold medal position. He's tried. Proving

:37:20. > :37:24.to be an exciting World Championships indeed. Louis has

:37:24. > :37:28.been one of the pioneers taking British gymnastics to new heights,

:37:28. > :37:32.another is Daniel Keatings. He became Britain's men's champion in

:37:32. > :37:40.2010, and he did it on the pommel horse.

:37:40. > :37:46.Very, very strog, this. -- strong, this. It's going to be close indeed.

:37:46. > :37:50.I think he's put the cat among the pigeons. Louis knows it too.

:37:50. > :37:53.Keatings is the European champion. In 2010 I got one of the best

:37:53. > :37:59.results of my career. I became European champion on the pommel

:37:59. > :38:03.horse. I went back into the gym to start training again and tore my AC

:38:03. > :38:09.up pretty much a couple of months after I got back, did both my

:38:09. > :38:14.ankles as well. In the end it caused me to miss the Olympics. I

:38:14. > :38:18.have gotten over it and back in the GB squad. We're just really

:38:18. > :38:23.missesing Louis. Hopefully because I missed out on the Olympics, it's

:38:23. > :38:28.like reliving it, if you know what I mean? Louis and Dan, you have

:38:28. > :38:32.done so much together, kind of grown up as well training in the

:38:32. > :38:36.same gym. You must be delighted he is back. It has been a hard road

:38:36. > :38:39.for Daniel the last couple of years - you saw, getting back from injury.

:38:39. > :38:45.We're good friends. We're like family. I am so happy for him, for

:38:45. > :38:50.his mum and dad, his girlfriend who have been on that journey with him.

:38:50. > :38:53.It's nice to see him back on top and winning a gold as well. From

:38:53. > :38:57.your perspective, how do you think he's feeling in the run-up to this?

:38:57. > :39:02.It was his big chance to say, I didn't make the Olympic team, but

:39:02. > :39:07.watch this. He just missed out on that. He was reserve. This is his

:39:07. > :39:12.best chance to say, watch out. I am back with a bang. I think he did it.

:39:12. > :39:17.As well as for Dan, guess who is going for his third medal at the

:39:17. > :39:27.Euros? It is of course Max Whitlock, but a pommel final wound be a

:39:27. > :39:28.

:39:28. > :39:32.pommel horse final without World European final Max Whitlock.

:39:32. > :39:36.It's great to have Christian back, who is a massive - is a gold

:39:36. > :39:39.medallist at the Olympics. It's great to look up to him in the

:39:40. > :39:43.routines and be in the finals competing against him. He's really

:39:43. > :39:47.good. I qualified in second place behind him, which is an achievement

:39:47. > :39:57.in itself for me, and I am looking forward to the final. Well, let's

:39:57. > :40:07.

:40:07. > :40:11.see that yaum important order -- after? It's a difficult one. If it

:40:12. > :40:16.was me, it wouldn't really faze me. I never felt threatened by him. I

:40:16. > :40:20.always focused on what I needed to do. I would say if I was Max, it's

:40:20. > :40:23.better to go before and put in a good performance, perhaps try and

:40:24. > :40:28.worry him. I doubt Berki will be worried, but he's human, so he can

:40:29. > :40:36.mast make mistakes. We're going to get or of your commentary because

:40:37. > :40:39.you'll be joining us in the commentary Max. Now we'll join

:40:39. > :40:43.Max's routine. What does the pommel horse have in

:40:43. > :40:48.store for Max Whitlock, has a silver, the men's all-around. He's

:40:48. > :40:54.just got himself a gold in the floor final. Can he increase that

:40:54. > :41:00.medal haul? Will he deliver? little cleaner at the start there

:41:01. > :41:08.than we saw in the all-around, massive difficulty on the one

:41:08. > :41:17.handle - light frame - he works really well above the handles. Good

:41:17. > :41:23.and smooth, keeping his rhythm. Oh, that's the tough one, a built of a

:41:23. > :41:31.knee bend, but he held it well, just has to keep his focus, keep

:41:31. > :41:34.the difficulty building. Come on. Here we go into the big dismount.

:41:35. > :41:39.Well, what a fantastic Championships. What a great routine

:41:39. > :41:43.for him to finish. Louis, you're clapping. He coped very well with

:41:43. > :41:48.the pressure. He kept going when he needed to. He stepped up the

:41:48. > :41:53.routine, made it harder, put an extra Russian on one handle, which

:41:53. > :41:58.made it an F as opposed to an E association he made it that little

:41:58. > :42:01.bit more. It affected him a little bit on the spindle, got me on the

:42:01. > :42:05.edge of my seat, not going to like, but he did it in style. He didn't

:42:05. > :42:11.have anymore errors, so that's a great performance Max has done.

:42:11. > :42:14.so cool there on the handles. He has his stocklies on the one

:42:14. > :42:18.handle before he goes into the Russian swing, you know, a great

:42:18. > :42:28.extension. It's nice to see him stepping it up for the final.

:42:28. > :42:32.

:42:32. > :42:37.That's what we like to see. That's him. Does that put pressure on

:42:38. > :42:41.Berki now? I don't think he looks at the other competitors as

:42:41. > :42:48.pressure. I think he wants to get through his own routine, and that

:42:48. > :42:51.is the best way to think. 15.5. That is a big score. That's

:42:51. > :42:55.it. That is a very good score, considering there was an error. I

:42:55. > :43:03.think he'll be very pleased with that. Here he is Krisztian Berki,

:43:03. > :43:13.28 years old, the highest qualifier, Olympic gold medallist, world

:43:13. > :43:22.

:43:22. > :43:27.champion, European champion, keep great style, the flairs, the leg

:43:27. > :43:32.separation. Everything looks so very measured - legs locked

:43:32. > :43:38.together, picks the pace up a little bit - in fact, that is

:43:38. > :43:43.something I really like about his pommel horse work, not just the

:43:43. > :43:48.difficulty, but the virility in it and the variety of pace. And for a

:43:48. > :43:54.big gymnast he doesn't skew on the pommel horse. A lot of the gymnasts

:43:54. > :43:59.- oh - skew. His hands are very much in line. Lifts, lifts, lifts -

:43:59. > :44:04.the extra turn. There was just a little flicker in the middle there,

:44:04. > :44:08.but that was the work of a champion. Lewis, how good... Oh!Normally

:44:08. > :44:12.you're used to seeing him from the floor, but I have to ask you to

:44:12. > :44:16.comment on - he is a master, isn't he? He's a master at getting

:44:16. > :44:20.through the routine. He went for his easy routine. I noticed right

:44:20. > :44:23.away he didn't go for the flair full spin at the start. He's

:44:23. > :44:28.thinking Lewis isn't here, it should be an easier field. I think

:44:28. > :44:31.it threw him a little bit. OK.Got towards the end of the routine, hit

:44:31. > :44:37.the pommel horse. That's a deduction and his dismount didn't

:44:37. > :44:42.finish in control, so, again, that could be up to a 5 or 3/10

:44:43. > :44:46.deduction. Max is in with a chance. He'll still get the start score,

:44:46. > :44:50.but the deductions might be more decreased. We'll have to see. I

:44:50. > :44:54.would say he'd just creep in in front of Max, but wouldn't be

:44:54. > :45:02.surprised if it was under either. Max Whitlock has the score of 15 -

:45:02. > :45:08.he's just creeped ahead at a 15.533 - Whoa! Berki by the skin of your

:45:08. > :45:13.teeth. He does it every time, doesn't he? It is an exciting final.

:45:13. > :45:17.A really tight final. I know what Dan is thinking now. What is he

:45:17. > :45:27.thinking He's thinking Berki has a low score. I need to smash this

:45:27. > :45:43.

:45:43. > :45:53.routine. He needs to stay calm. in the middle. Spindle on the end.

:45:53. > :45:53.

:45:53. > :46:01.Good extension. Hasn't hit the pommel. Picks up great into the

:46:01. > :46:08.travel. Not skewing an awful lot. Keeping square. Just the dismount

:46:08. > :46:16.lef He's up, he spins, he's down, yes! And he shouts on his dismount

:46:16. > :46:22.as well. We know it's close, but is that enough? If I was judging it,

:46:22. > :46:29.that would be a gold medal for me. I would give that 15. That 15.7, 15. ,

:46:29. > :46:34.15.8. Would you? 15. 15.533. The form in this, to keep the composure

:46:34. > :46:41.under extreme pressure. It was a great routine. That's all Dan needed

:46:41. > :46:45.to do, get through his routine the way he knows he can do it. I would

:46:45. > :46:49.say that's a deserved gold. Well, whatever, it is a fantastic

:46:49. > :46:53.performance and the performance that Dan really needed for his own

:46:53. > :46:58.confidence and to put himself back on the world stage. He's a great

:46:58. > :47:05.gymnast. I guess we are allowed to think that as your training partner

:47:05. > :47:12.all the years you can be slightly biassed. You can see how nervous he

:47:12. > :47:17.is. Yes, he says, it is 15. 15.6. Daniel Keatings is in gold medal

:47:17. > :47:27.position in this men's pommel horse final. There are two gymnasts le to

:47:27. > :47:28.

:47:28. > :47:37.go. This guy, he has the potential to score a 16. Let's hope it is not

:47:37. > :47:47.today. He just never goes through his routine in the finals, buckles

:47:47. > :48:04.

:48:04. > :48:14.Just a flicker of the legs apart. He has got a lovely swing and a great

:48:14. > :48:27.

:48:27. > :48:31.speed and rhythm to the routine. He through, that was a fighting

:48:32. > :48:37.performance. He did well. There were a few times I thought he would be

:48:37. > :48:42.off, but he got through to routine. Fair play to him but I don't think

:48:42. > :48:52.it is enough to beat Daniel. Esaid he had the potential to go up to

:48:52. > :48:54.

:48:54. > :48:59.16.He was full of confidence and he gripped when he needed to. A 15. A

:48:59. > :49:09.15.1. Donna Donny Truyens is in sixth.

:49:09. > :49:19.

:49:19. > :49:24.Great Britain's Daniel Keatings It is incredible to think that in

:49:24. > :49:29.the three finals of the men's we've had four medals in it It is

:49:29. > :49:39.absolutely fantastic. People used to say who is Britain in the gymnastics

:49:39. > :49:39.

:49:39. > :50:21.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:50:21. > :50:26.It has been a tough couple of years for you. That must be a phenomenal

:50:26. > :50:32.feeling to be back on the podium, at the top of your sport? Yes, the last

:50:32. > :50:37.few years have been hell through injury. It is the first time I've

:50:38. > :50:42.been back since 2010. This is my first major since then. I came here

:50:42. > :50:46.and I've done my job. I only scraped through in qualification, so I was

:50:46. > :50:52.nervous, but I've retained the title. I had a chance to retain it

:50:52. > :50:55.and I did, so I'm really happy. Max, congratulations. It was a close one

:50:55. > :51:01.but you completed the set though. I'm really happy to have completed

:51:01. > :51:08.the set. It was much more than I needed to do. That is the best final

:51:08. > :51:12.I've ever done, the craziest one and the closest one. He managed to pull

:51:12. > :51:17.through that and done an amazing routine. He deserved that gold

:51:17. > :51:23.medal. You were celebrating as soon as you landed. How soon did you

:51:23. > :51:27.know? I didn't know I had won. I just knew I had done a really good

:51:27. > :51:32.routine, the best I could do. And I had the start score. I knew it was

:51:32. > :51:35.going to be in the mix. It was more a sign of relief after everything

:51:35. > :51:38.that's gone on in the past. Just getting the routine in the final.

:51:38. > :51:45.I'm over the Moon. APPLAUSE

:51:45. > :51:54.We've got to applaud him. Well Max summed it up, under extreme pressure

:51:54. > :52:00.he knew what he was capable of. A. . It has been hard for Dan. Funding

:52:00. > :52:04.has been an issue. To do that, he can not worry about funding and he

:52:04. > :52:08.can just get back into training and being focussed. I'm very happy to

:52:08. > :52:14.him. Also treat ourselves to another look at the end of the routine. Is

:52:14. > :52:20.he going to pick up now where you left off? I hope so. I think it will

:52:20. > :52:26.be a battle between him and Max who is going to fill the spot I once had

:52:26. > :52:32.on pommel horse. First and third, unbelievable. Listen to him on the

:52:32. > :52:37.end of the dismount. Yes!He knows. The relief. Everything went into

:52:37. > :52:41.that. We were just saying there Jenny, can you believe we've heard

:52:42. > :52:48.the national anthem played twice now, in Russia? Fantastic. I'm so

:52:48. > :52:52.proud of our gymnasts. It made our day. It certainly made Dan's life.

:52:52. > :53:01.The equivalent of the men's pommel horse is the women's beam.

:53:01. > :53:05.Representing Great Britain in this final is Ruby Harrold. I can't

:53:05. > :53:11.believe I'm in the final. A few years ago I was a very nervous

:53:11. > :53:18.person on the beam. It is another apparatus where I can gain

:53:18. > :53:22.experience from. I haven't got the highest start but I know if I do the

:53:22. > :53:28.routine to the best of my ability, I could perform well. Let's look at

:53:28. > :53:31.the order of balancing. I do hope the nerves have settled.

:53:31. > :53:40.Beam is the last place that you want the jitters, especially when you're

:53:40. > :53:48.up first. Ruby Harrold for Great Britain, her

:53:48. > :53:54.first ever beam final. She's had a fantastic European Championships

:53:55. > :54:04.here. Calmly into the handstand and the Healey turn. Very nice original

:54:05. > :54:10.

:54:10. > :54:17.Sets herself up for the front somersault. Beautifully high and

:54:17. > :54:21.controlled. Now the back flip and the layout somersault. Two acrobatic

:54:21. > :54:31.moves that gymnasts are required to incloud, linked together. Very

:54:31. > :54:32.

:54:32. > :54:42.nicely done on the change-leg leap with the quarter turn. Well

:54:42. > :55:04.

:55:04. > :55:08.connected. Two leaps connected forwards and backwards elements. And

:55:09. > :55:18.runs into the full twisting front somersault dismount. Very good

:55:19. > :55:21.

:55:21. > :55:31.secure opening from Ruby. Flick, layout, very solid and finishing off

:55:31. > :55:39.

:55:39. > :55:49.a straight front somersault, full turn, controlled nicely. 13. 13.633.

:55:49. > :56:03.

:56:03. > :56:13.Very good Diana Laura Bulimar, from Romania impressed us with her

:56:13. > :56:42.

:56:42. > :56:47.of the apparatus. Beam work is a great deal about confidence. If

:56:47. > :56:51.you're confident, perform every skill with purpose, you are much

:56:51. > :56:59.more likely to be able to maintain balance and control the middle of

:56:59. > :57:05.the body. She's barely had a wobble. Up into a double pike. That really

:57:05. > :57:13.was a very impressive routine. APPLAUSE

:57:13. > :57:17.There's the free walkover into the immediate leap, and again.

:57:17. > :57:22.judges have to decide if they feel it was immediate from the free

:57:23. > :57:32.walkover into the jump she gets a bonus. A beautiful double pike back

:57:33. > :57:33.

:57:33. > :57:42.to finish. That will score well. 14.833 puts her into the lead. Very

:57:42. > :57:50.good work there. The local favourite, third in the all round.

:57:50. > :57:55.From Russia it is Anastasia Grishina. Didn't have a great deem

:57:55. > :58:05.routine in qualification but is capable of fabulous work here. So

:58:05. > :58:11.

:58:11. > :58:21.supple, so fluent. Really positive on that landing.

:58:21. > :58:47.

:58:47. > :58:55.Super hands. Her fluency and Very difficult and unusual that

:58:55. > :59:05.combination. No pause. Really special work.

:59:05. > :59:06.

:59:06. > :59:13.And she hits the splits in her leaps effortlessly.

:59:13. > :59:20.Lovely style. Big double pike. Just a little pace.

:59:20. > :59:26.That was superb work from Grishina. APPLAUSE

:59:26. > :59:31.Look at the height in the round-off straight back. Sets up, wraps in for

:59:31. > :59:40.the double pike back. Look at the toes pointed for the landing, arms

:59:40. > :59:50.forward, one pace back. The smile says it all. 5. 5.6 difficulty. Not

:59:50. > :59:51.

:59:51. > :00:01.quite enough to take her into first place. Larisa Iordache from Romania.

:00:01. > :00:24.

:00:24. > :00:28.Impressed us immensely during the the leg lifted high - that'll give

:00:28. > :00:36.her plenty of marks - that difficult element, and the change

:00:36. > :00:46.leg leap with the half turn. Free walk-over, and she didn't go for

:00:46. > :00:50.

:00:50. > :01:00.the jump there that we probably be joined. They can be simple, but

:01:00. > :01:09.they have to be joined. Very good pace and rhythm to this routine, no

:01:09. > :01:16.long pauses, use of arms, very nice. Now watch this dismount - roundoff,

:01:16. > :01:21.back flip, punch-up, triple twist, clean as can be. Now, that beam had

:01:21. > :01:27.all the difficulty, all the pace. This is my favourite, this dismount,

:01:27. > :01:33.of all. Seen her do this since a very young junior, and it's always

:01:33. > :01:42.been stunning. Wrapped in for the triple twist, not only the best

:01:42. > :01:51.routine for me so far, but the most accurate dismount. And it's up to

:01:51. > :01:56.15.266. That's a massive score, 6.4 difficulty that puts the Romanians

:01:56. > :01:59.first and second, Iordache first, Bulimar second, Grishina from

:01:59. > :02:04.Russia third, Ruby Harrold performing excellently in sixth

:02:04. > :02:10.place - that's the highest score for her of this Championships.

:02:10. > :02:15.She'll go very pleased. I couldn't agree more, congratulations to Ruby

:02:15. > :02:21.Harrold, unsurprisingly, the two Romanians one and two. Orarea we

:02:21. > :02:31.showed you the women's vault final, so it's only fair we do the same

:02:31. > :02:38.

:02:38. > :02:44.with the men, and here are the Hasn't he just? Look at the height

:02:44. > :02:49.he gets. Unbelievable.Plenty of time to spot the landing and

:02:49. > :02:55.straight down the middle. Flavius Koczi took silver, believe it or

:02:55. > :03:01.not, a triple twisting - well, he was the European champion. Ooh!

:03:01. > :03:08.That wraps it in, that twist. much of a somersaulter, but he can

:03:08. > :03:14.twist. 6, difficulty, as well. about made it there. The gold who

:03:14. > :03:20.landed on the medal was Denis Ablyazin. Watch this, a double Pike.

:03:20. > :03:24.He had so much time, so much space. How can you get that high just by

:03:24. > :03:28.running down a runway and then hitting a large object? Denis

:03:28. > :03:33.Ablyazin is proof of that. The penultimate final for the men is

:03:33. > :03:43.the parallel bars, got no British finalists here, but here is the

:03:43. > :03:52.

:03:52. > :03:56.from Ukraine, always faultless on the parallel bars. A very difficult

:03:56. > :04:03.combination - the final pause, wraps up, a double Pike-back, what

:04:03. > :04:08.a performance. What a contender. Oleg Stepko wins the gold medal. So

:04:08. > :04:10.he had a much happier time in the parallel balls, finally ending in

:04:10. > :04:14.the all-around, but Mustafina has been the star of the show from a

:04:14. > :04:20.Russian perspective so far, and Jenny, I know that you are a huge

:04:20. > :04:25.fan of hers. You even film her routines off the telly. Yeah, she's

:04:25. > :04:30.a beautiful gymnast, puts the "artistic" in artistic gymnastics,

:04:30. > :04:34.and to be performing in front of a home crowd for her must be very

:04:34. > :04:38.special. What was it like competing against her on the floor alongside

:04:38. > :04:43.someone you respect so much? To be on par technically with her in the

:04:43. > :04:47.competitions is amazing because she's such an aspiring gymnast. I

:04:47. > :04:52.just look up to her. What is it about her because everybody loves

:04:52. > :04:56.her, don't they? Not only is she an absolutely brilliant gymnast, but

:04:56. > :05:01.she's very modest, a team player, and she's just really what you can

:05:01. > :05:04.call beautiful. Great eyes as well. She qualified with one of the

:05:04. > :05:08.highest scores on the floor but content with two European goals

:05:08. > :05:11.already she's pulled out of the final to give her team-mate

:05:11. > :05:21.Anastasia Grishina a chance, and here are the highlights from that

:05:21. > :05:34.

:05:34. > :05:37.Romania. Such precision - double straight somersault, the body

:05:37. > :05:47.travels straight through the air in that position. Here we have - oh,

:05:47. > :06:00.

:06:00. > :06:08.so high into the double tuck, difficult leaps, and she gives

:06:08. > :06:14.herself plenty of time to do that, doesn't rush them into a corner.

:06:14. > :06:24.Obviously, a hugely skilful tumbler, full twisting double backed Pike

:06:24. > :06:41.

:06:41. > :06:51.include five acrobatic skills and three dance elements for their

:06:51. > :06:52.

:06:52. > :06:56.difficulty. This was packed full with them both. What about that?

:06:56. > :07:01.Talk about a little pocket rocket - from the start to the finish, it

:07:01. > :07:06.was dynamic. I always like to see the Romanians on the floor. They

:07:06. > :07:11.have great choreography and spend a lot of time in the gym working on

:07:11. > :07:19.this aspect. As we can see there, on the tumble there, round-off

:07:19. > :07:24.flick, double lay-out, straight from top to toe, nailed the landing.

:07:24. > :07:30.Look at this - the full twist, half, walk-out, round-off flick, has to

:07:30. > :07:40.really power back into the double- back somersault, very difficult to

:07:40. > :07:47.generate a double somersault from a walk-out. Combines some beautiful

:07:47. > :07:51.dance work and power. There we see there the full twist in the first

:07:51. > :08:01.somersault, pipe back out, the highest difficulty. For me this

:08:01. > :08:05.routine had it all. 14.533, Diana Bulimar goes into first place. A

:08:05. > :08:14.great favourite of the Russian crowd, certainly this gymnast

:08:14. > :08:24.qualified top. Afanasyeva. Superb double straight, world champion on

:08:24. > :08:30.

:08:30. > :08:40.floor. Two whips into a triple twist, very cleanly performed.

:08:40. > :09:08.

:09:08. > :09:18.Combination of spins, beautifully a-half, straight front. Only one-

:09:18. > :09:37.

:09:37. > :09:41.she left herself enough energy? Yes, she has, great double Pike finish,

:09:41. > :09:45.what an exciting, mature performance from Afanasyeva.

:09:45. > :09:52.Certainly proving there why she is the world champion and such power.

:09:52. > :09:56.Look here at the tumbles. Round-off, double lay-out, great extension and

:09:56. > :10:03.execution, perfect on the landing. There's the whip, generating the

:10:03. > :10:09.power, flick, stands up, into the triple twist, perfect landing again.

:10:09. > :10:16.So in those two tumbles, she's shown such variety, double rotation,

:10:16. > :10:21.multiple twists, and the jump is so well executed and cleverly landed.

:10:21. > :10:25.Yes, 15.166, slightly down on the difficulty, but first place, and

:10:25. > :10:35.that is a massive score. That's going to be difficult to match or

:10:35. > :10:38.

:10:38. > :10:42.beat. So Larisa Iordache, silver all-around - gold on beam. She'll

:10:42. > :10:47.be wanting to add another gold to her tally, and watch this first

:10:47. > :10:56.tumble - double twisting, double tuck, but that was a big step

:10:56. > :11:06.forwards. Such a dynamic gymnast, though, full-twisting double-back,

:11:06. > :11:24.

:11:24. > :11:34.all those leaps, works very hard on the new rule of not waiting in the

:11:34. > :12:13.

:12:13. > :12:16.pauses. Really ambitious routine, no major errors, but there were a

:12:16. > :12:21.couple of steps on landing that might well be the difference

:12:21. > :12:24.between the gold and the silver. There were errors, unfortunately.

:12:24. > :12:31.If anybody could challenge for the top spot, it would have been

:12:31. > :12:36.Iordache, and as we can see this, this is a very big full in, back

:12:36. > :12:43.out, slight hop-back. That wasn't anything too major on the

:12:43. > :12:48.deductions. Here we see again - generates great power in the round-

:12:48. > :12:54.off flick flack, stands up into the double tuck, opens up in plenty of

:12:54. > :13:04.time, slight hop-back. 15.166 to beat. It will be up there, but will

:13:04. > :13:10.it be in the 15s in well, -- 15s? Well, the replay didn't show us but

:13:10. > :13:15.there was an error on the first tumble. 14.733 - she's not going to

:13:15. > :13:22.take the gold, but she's in the silver medal position. Afanasyeva,

:13:22. > :13:32.the world champion on floor, adds the European title to her

:13:32. > :13:36.

:13:36. > :13:39.incredibly relaxed - obviously relief there performing in front of

:13:39. > :13:42.the home crowd, so much expectation on her shoulders as the world

:13:42. > :13:46.champion. A little bit because I think that's the only final she did

:13:46. > :13:51.qualify for, but she clearly made the most of it. She's a very

:13:51. > :13:56.enjoyable competitor to watchen the floor, and deserving I think.

:13:56. > :14:01.moving on to the blue-ribboned event. It's the men's high bar and

:14:01. > :14:07.one of the two British high fliers we have got going in this one is a

:14:07. > :14:12.new face to the British public. Meet Ashley Watson. I'm at

:14:12. > :14:20.university. I am doing my dissertation on pre-performance

:14:20. > :14:25.routines in gymnastics and anxiety levels. I try to incorporate that

:14:25. > :14:31.stuff into my routine, and it seems to have done the trick. It's my

:14:31. > :14:39.first big sport as senior. All of my training has been building up to

:14:39. > :14:44.this routine. My focus was on the bars, messed it up, now I am

:14:44. > :14:48.working on the high bar. I am not looking for any medals at this

:14:48. > :14:54.stage, but if I can sneak one in, I would be happy with that. To

:14:54. > :15:04.experience it will be good enough for me. It's always a nailbiter.

:15:04. > :15:33.

:15:33. > :15:43.well, if they keep their nerve. Lads, just hang on. Aliaksandr

:15:43. > :16:03.

:16:03. > :16:13.Tsarevich open this is high bar A slight fight but he's got it over

:16:13. > :16:18.

:16:18. > :16:24.into the Markelov. Another Healey turn.

:16:25. > :16:32.Kicks it up, triple-back somersault, nail the landing... Well, what an

:16:32. > :16:36.opener! APPLAUSE

:16:36. > :16:42.The Kovac, the somersault over the bar, caught with a bit of a bend

:16:42. > :16:51.over the arms. And this, the dismount. Knees beautifully together

:16:52. > :17:00.as well. Very good dismount. 14. 14.833, a very good score to

:17:00. > :17:06.start this competition. Ashley Watson from Great Britain.

:17:06. > :17:13.His first senior European final. A great junior gymnast, one of the

:17:13. > :17:19.team that won the Junior Europeans. Has been dogged by injury for the

:17:19. > :17:27.past few years but performed fantastically.

:17:27. > :17:37.The one-armed swing. Impressive work. Confident in the twist, the

:17:37. > :17:44.

:17:44. > :17:51.one-and-a-half twist, straight up Oh, what a shame, the full twisting

:17:51. > :17:57.Kovac, over the bar with the full twist. So little room for error.

:17:57. > :18:03.was going for broke there, the full twisting Kovac's not round enough.

:18:03. > :18:08.One hand gets on first and then just misses out with the other. This is

:18:08. > :18:15.the highest difficulty. But what a gutsy performance.

:18:15. > :18:25.The coach puts him back up on the high bar in a final. You have to go

:18:25. > :18:31.

:18:31. > :18:36.for broke. Everyone else will be Has to nail the dismount. Very nice.

:18:36. > :18:45.He will be desperately disappointed but it's been a long wait from

:18:45. > :18:52.qualification until now. Here's the squat with the half turn.

:18:52. > :19:00.Straight into the somersault with an extra full turn. Very difficult to

:19:00. > :19:10.keep your legs together. He did that element as well as I've

:19:10. > :19:10.

:19:10. > :19:14.seen it done by anybody. Really stylish. He almost caught that. He

:19:14. > :19:18.just didn't get the dowell over the bar, so his hand touched. You have

:19:18. > :19:22.to get the block, the dowell, in the hand guard over, so that you can

:19:22. > :19:30.resist the forces that hit the bottom of the swing. There you go,

:19:30. > :19:36.and the timing was perfect. He just released a little bit too late. But

:19:36. > :19:41.finished very vongole here -- finished very strongly here. Full

:19:41. > :19:47.twisting double straight. Ashley Watson from Leeds. Here is his

:19:47. > :19:57.score, 12. 12.833. Second at the moment but I guess there'll be more

:19:57. > :20:04.

:20:04. > :20:13.big scores to come. Fabian Hambuechen from Germany. European

:20:13. > :20:23.champion in '07 and '08. This will be something spectacular.

:20:23. > :20:28.

:20:28. > :20:35.That's the full twisting cover after caught at full extension. The Kovac.

:20:35. > :20:42.There's a squat full. Oh, came out too early. Down on to the apparatus.

:20:42. > :20:52.That's cost him. That is so unusual for Fabian Hambuechen. He usually

:20:52. > :21:09.

:21:09. > :21:16.loves the pressure. We've seen him A great dismount. He will be

:21:16. > :21:24.disappointed with that performance. Good form on the dismount. The

:21:25. > :21:34.landing as confident as ever. 13. 13.966. In second, ahead of Ashley

:21:35. > :21:36.

:21:36. > :21:46.Watson, but behind Aliaksandr Tsarevich. Emin Garibov from Russia,

:21:46. > :21:46.

:21:46. > :22:43.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 42 seconds

:22:43. > :22:48.the only gymnast to post a start What a performance!

:22:48. > :22:54.He makes a half turn before his body swings through the bottom, and that

:22:54. > :22:58.way he can swing back up to handstand. The half turn. He took an

:22:58. > :23:05.extra long swing there before he went into this difficult

:23:05. > :23:10.combination. Stoop Tkachev, straddle with half turn. Now it is linking

:23:10. > :23:15.those difficult elements together that builds four start value. That's

:23:15. > :23:16.why his start value will be higher than others.

:23:16. > :23:24.APPLAUSE The scores are in. Seven difficulty.

:23:24. > :23:34.15. 15.433. The other gymnasts are going to have to do something pretty

:23:34. > :23:35.

:23:35. > :23:38.special to overhaul that score. The final British competitor of this

:23:38. > :23:48.European Championships that's held so much success for Great Britain.

:23:48. > :24:02.

:24:02. > :24:12.Sam Oldham, from Nottingham, comes Straight Tkachev, straddle Tkachev.

:24:12. > :24:19.

:24:20. > :24:26.Come on, Sam! Tkachev off turn, executed fantastically.

:24:26. > :24:32.There's the hopful, into the Ribalco, a hop one-and-a-half. Come

:24:32. > :24:39.on now, hold it together. Double twisting double straight, what a

:24:39. > :24:45.routine from Sam Oldham! Fantastic gymnastics. Well done, Sam. Our

:24:45. > :24:50.final competitor showed just all the fight that's been in the British

:24:50. > :24:57.team this Championships. Lovely turns, really clean, lovely style.

:24:57. > :25:01.Body shape really good. Extension, height above the bar is so

:25:01. > :25:11.impressive there. He catches really cleanly makes the turn before he

:25:11. > :25:17.hits the bottom of the swing. Super work. Toes locked together, fully

:25:17. > :25:26.extended. Kicks up high. Finishes the double twist easily, so he can

:25:26. > :25:31.make the landing. 15. 15.133! Second place. What an

:25:31. > :25:37.impressive performance. Just one gymnast to go, so he is assured of a

:25:37. > :25:47.medal. The final gymnast of these Championships, the man who shared

:25:47. > :26:15.

:26:15. > :26:20.Just a little stall on the swingout but such difficulty.

:26:20. > :26:27.Such vooishcts such difficulty in this routine. Tall gymnast swings

:26:27. > :26:34.with ease. What about the dismount? Double, double, without a flicker on

:26:34. > :26:36.landing. That was a fantastic routine.

:26:36. > :26:40.APPLAUSE Very difficult but there'll be a

:26:40. > :26:49.deduction there. You can see the arms bending and the close shoulder

:26:49. > :26:53.angle. We were looking for a good catch.

:26:53. > :27:00.Ten out of ten for effort. A late catch. He has to work very hard and

:27:00. > :27:07.bend the arms to get up to the handstand. Finishes very strongly.

:27:08. > :27:13.And fourth place, 14. 14.733. Alexander Shatilov very

:27:13. > :27:19.disappointed. Execution down. 8. 8.233 but that gives Great Britain

:27:19. > :27:24.another medal. Sam Oldham silver on high bar. And there's confirmation.

:27:24. > :27:28.First place Emin Garibov from Russia. Second, Sam Oldham from

:27:28. > :27:34.Great Britain. Third Aliaksandr Tsarevich from Belarus. What a

:27:34. > :27:43.fantastic finish. Yet again Great Britain on the medal

:27:43. > :27:48.podium. Sam Oldham took gold at the junior Europeans in 2010. Gold at

:27:48. > :27:53.the youth Olympics as well. Here is ehad taking a wonderful silver

:27:54. > :28:03.medal. It is such a difficult piece to watch when you are all wired in

:28:04. > :28:10.

:28:10. > :28:16.with microphones as we are. How do you sum that up Louis, you do

:28:16. > :28:22.wish you were there? Some part of me wishes I was there. 60% of me wishes

:28:22. > :28:28.I was there just to watch. Even if I wanted to get my leotard back on, I

:28:28. > :28:34.would struggle to get into it. need to lose a few pounds. Alright,

:28:34. > :28:40.it is OK for me to say that, the but don't be cheeky. A quick word Jenny,

:28:40. > :28:44.highlights? I'm so proud of all our British gymnastsment so many medal

:28:44. > :28:49.amounts it has been fantastic to watch. Are you in retirement now or

:28:49. > :28:53.are you coming out of it slowly. I'm officially in retirement but we'll

:28:53. > :29:00.see. It has been super to have your company this afternoon. I thoroughly

:29:00. > :29:03.enjoyed it. You can see more tonight at 7 o'clock on BBC two HD. We'll
