:00:53. > :00:57.Welcome to highlights of the European gymnastics champions, if
:00:58. > :01:04.you didn't see your today's men's team final, this is what you missed
:01:05. > :01:10.is. The first gymnast to go for Great Britain is Nile Wilson. He
:01:11. > :01:15.comes for the final tumble, triple twist. Great finish, just what we
:01:16. > :01:19.have come to expect from Kristian Thomas, very good opening for Great
:01:20. > :01:25.Britain. A fight between Great Britain and Russia. That was an
:01:26. > :01:34.immaculate triple twist. A massive class of floor work. Done. Look at
:01:35. > :01:44.that, Great Britain back in contention. Super dismount, superb
:01:45. > :01:51.performance. That is his own move. Exceptional ring work. Proving how
:01:52. > :01:53.much he deserves his place here. Britain closing the gap slightly.
:01:54. > :02:09.Yes!. Fantastic. That is very good. Very good
:02:10. > :02:14.control. Come on Nile go for it. What a routine. One of the best, if
:02:15. > :02:25.not the best today. Here we go again. The half-time and
:02:26. > :02:33.a good swing up, come on Nile Wilson. Two twists. What a
:02:34. > :02:39.performance. They have really won today. Great performance from the
:02:40. > :02:45.British team. They are European champions again. They will now that
:02:46. > :02:50.Britain are without a certain Max Whitlock. Great competition and I
:02:51. > :02:58.think we all did our job, fantastically well. It is great to
:02:59. > :03:02.be amongst the medals. We are not that full capacity, we have Macs and
:03:03. > :03:08.other people in the locker, we are doing fantastically well. What a
:03:09. > :03:12.team finally proved to be. Joining me this afternoon to talk you
:03:13. > :03:17.through today's action is Beth Prodl and then Keatings. Yesterday, rusher
:03:18. > :03:22.held on to the European title in sublime style, Britain went 18
:03:23. > :03:26.routines without a hitch and the Swiss managed to get their hands on
:03:27. > :03:29.the bronze in front of the home crowd, but a moment for them. We
:03:30. > :03:35.have not seen the Russian team perform like that for years. As soon
:03:36. > :03:41.as they walked out, they looked really calm and collected and even
:03:42. > :03:46.in qualification, they were still marks ahead of us, so we knew we had
:03:47. > :03:49.to pull it out of the bag and Russia had to make mistakes. We were three
:03:50. > :03:54.months behind them at the end of yesterday's result, but like we said
:03:55. > :04:02.that, there are still people at home, ten weeks to go until real, --
:04:03. > :04:05.until Rio. Over three Mark Stone, that is a big gap even without Macs.
:04:06. > :04:12.Where you surprised by the difference? We are always good to
:04:13. > :04:15.lose marks not having Macs in the team but I didn't quite realise how
:04:16. > :04:22.strong Russia were until the qualifications. ? How much do you
:04:23. > :04:27.think Max is work. A minimum of three marks, he does add that to the
:04:28. > :04:31.team. With Russia it would have been a real fight. Russia were very good
:04:32. > :04:36.on the day. Would have been a good match and we have a lot of other
:04:37. > :04:42.people at home as well and they do look good and I was really surprised
:04:43. > :04:46.by how much. Sat here having a conversation about being so close to
:04:47. > :04:51.Russia and looking forward to the team medal in Rio. When you look at
:04:52. > :04:58.the achievements and where this has come from in the last ten years. It
:04:59. > :05:07.is remarkable. You look at the top left corner. 2006, 11th. What is the
:05:08. > :05:11.secret, what has been happening? For me it is a combination of things.
:05:12. > :05:14.The lottery funding has done a lot for British gymnastics in British
:05:15. > :05:18.sport and the belief within the camp. Lewis and Daniel were the
:05:19. > :05:21.first to bring those medals in and then you have the youngsters
:05:22. > :05:25.training underneath thinking hang on a minute, we see them training in a
:05:26. > :05:30.gym, if they can do it then we can do it and that belief has just
:05:31. > :05:36.continued. When I was first on the scene, they were targeting Louis and
:05:37. > :05:40.Daniel and they must have been 910 years old and then the results
:05:41. > :05:45.started to come through in 2004 and 2006. Have you always got that
:05:46. > :05:51.incredible support network coming up from the junior ranks? Ever since
:05:52. > :05:57.Louis got his medal in Beijing. It helps a lot with funding. From then
:05:58. > :06:01.we realised we could get Olympic medals, world medals, European
:06:02. > :06:05.medals and pushed on and there was that belief, not just the gymnasts
:06:06. > :06:10.but the whole support team. I guess you have really known no difference
:06:11. > :06:13.but everybody I speak to, they say we love the gymnastics and cannot
:06:14. > :06:17.wait to see it. You are in for a treat this afternoon because seven
:06:18. > :06:18.more medal chances today for our British gymnasts and here is who to
:06:19. > :06:48.look out for. How much focus to think there has
:06:49. > :06:54.been within the British squad on the European Championships? I think it
:06:55. > :07:00.was a good test to see how the boys would compete under the same format
:07:01. > :07:05.without Max we can try out Courtney as well and explore the depths
:07:06. > :07:10.within the team and we are not good to be 100%. We will be saving that
:07:11. > :07:15.for Rio, 90% but not quite fitting top form so you might feel to
:07:16. > :07:18.squeeze some more out. Ethical to peak for a competition but for those
:07:19. > :07:25.gymnasts who want to show what they are capable of achieving. A great
:07:26. > :07:29.stepping stone, we didn't have to do anything for the test event, we were
:07:30. > :07:32.able to give the gymnasts experienced and some of them were
:07:33. > :07:37.able to try out routines, may be the first time out in a major
:07:38. > :07:40.championships and the national system, the technical director is
:07:41. > :07:46.able to see what the gymnasts are able to produce under that pressure.
:07:47. > :07:49.What a job that is. The fact that Courtney was able to come into the
:07:50. > :07:55.team and shall in yesterday's team final he could score that under that
:07:56. > :08:00.pressure situation. We will hear from all of the GB boys this
:08:01. > :08:03.afternoon and a couple of European champions hoping to retain their
:08:04. > :08:08.titles, Louis Smith on, horse is one of them is as Kristian Thomas on the
:08:09. > :08:13.floor but another gymnast hoping to get back onto the medal podium is
:08:14. > :08:16.Dan Purvis, a stalwart of the British team on his consistency has
:08:17. > :08:23.been invaluable during team competitions. A good performance at
:08:24. > :08:28.these championships would be massive, too sure that I can hit my
:08:29. > :08:34.routines really clean. Also doing it under pressure, quite a lot of
:08:35. > :08:36.pressure, hitting the routines consistently and hopefully I can do
:08:37. > :08:41.that will put me in good stead for Rio. The main thing is Rio, that is
:08:42. > :08:45.the next plan after these championships. I guess the key is
:08:46. > :08:49.just too sure I can show consistency and if I can tidy up my routines
:08:50. > :08:57.right now that would put me in good stead for the trials. COMMENTATOR:
:08:58. > :09:04.That was fantastic. From Dan Purvis. Unbelievable. This Olympic cycle has
:09:05. > :09:08.been so difficult, so many top gymnasts, a couple of injuries here
:09:09. > :09:12.and there but everyone is looking to peak for the trials and the squad is
:09:13. > :09:18.looking in good fitness, it will be massive. Whoever the team will be
:09:19. > :09:21.able be a strong team because everybody is pushing each other and
:09:22. > :09:25.ultimately it makes the team even stronger if everyone is at their
:09:26. > :09:26.best. It will be a good case for getting to peak fitness than get
:09:27. > :09:37.into the Rio selection. Kristian has always had a great
:09:38. > :09:43.floor. He is great on fault and high bar as well. We have to hit our
:09:44. > :09:46.routines and Kristian is so humble, has a great career and would be
:09:47. > :09:51.great to go around with my friend and fellow team-mate. My routine, I
:09:52. > :09:56.feel steady with it and confident and I feel like I try to add things
:09:57. > :10:00.it might not go to plan and at the same venue have to think if you keep
:10:01. > :10:04.the routine as clean as I can and get that mark barrier I can be in
:10:05. > :10:12.the ballpark. Not think too much about the other gymnasts. It is just
:10:13. > :10:17.a case of being around the ballpark, if I can stay at the top I have got
:10:18. > :10:21.a good chance. Lovely sentiment, nice to go round with my friend.
:10:22. > :10:34.Two British gymnasts taking part in this final.
:10:35. > :10:40.Dragulescu 's world floor champion four times. Dan Purvis, we have just
:10:41. > :11:04.heard from him, wrapping things up as the eighth gymnast. We will start
:11:05. > :11:16.with Belyavskiy. 24 years old. Was superb in the team competition. Very
:11:17. > :11:20.good, double twist, back out. Super definition in his twist, you see him
:11:21. > :11:28.lift up, we can then twist. Makes it all very clean. Just a little hop on
:11:29. > :11:37.that landing. He is a very classy gymnast. Always extended, legs
:11:38. > :11:47.locked together. Looks as bit and as strong as I have seen him in this
:11:48. > :11:55.cycle. Just as it should B preparing for the Olympic Games. Really lands
:11:56. > :12:07.with ease. He anticipates the floor, absorbs the landing. Textbook bend
:12:08. > :12:11.of the knees. Now, big final tumble. Super triple twist, just a little
:12:12. > :12:16.hop forward, tiny bit under rotated but first man out, that was a very
:12:17. > :12:21.impressive performance. Really precise and older tumbles, very
:12:22. > :12:25.difficult opening, double twist, into the back. Out. Lots of gymnasts
:12:26. > :12:32.preferred to initiate the twists later. It makes it more difficult.
:12:33. > :12:40.There is the Russian Circle, we often see that on the pommel horse.
:12:41. > :12:45.And there you can see, wraps up. Superb in the air, triple twist,
:12:46. > :12:59.spots the floor. Little adjustment on landing. Very efficient routine.
:13:00. > :13:13.Nagornyy, the second Russian gymnast in this final, and also involved in
:13:14. > :13:19.parallel bars today. Just raise yourself, this is the definition of
:13:20. > :13:25.graceful power. Into the tuck position, down the side. Very
:13:26. > :13:32.powerful gymnast. There you go, three and a half. Full twist.
:13:33. > :13:39.Accurate and precise as ever. Double twist. In two double front, that is
:13:40. > :13:46.huge difficulty. If you combine the difficult skills, that is where you
:13:47. > :13:48.get the bonus. Double pike, Arabian. Seems to be a signature move in the
:13:49. > :13:59.Russian team. Gymnasts must perform and
:14:00. > :14:11.non-acrobatic element, opting for the wider arm handstand. Originality
:14:12. > :14:20.within his choreography. Stands up, two and a half. Front half. That is
:14:21. > :14:25.the buzzer. 60 seconds, must finish. Stands up, triple twist, glued to
:14:26. > :14:30.the floor. Look at the joy and! And the relief on his face. When you
:14:31. > :14:37.come here and you know what you can do and you manage to deliver on this
:14:38. > :14:41.stage, goodness me, what a feeling. This gymnast is so precise with
:14:42. > :14:45.every round, look at the Arms, locked by the years, this was just
:14:46. > :14:51.the only tumble. Two somersaults with two twists and he did it from a
:14:52. > :14:56.little hop. Watch this one. Two twists forward 's, immediate punch
:14:57. > :15:01.front, two somersaults forward and just plopped out of the air with a
:15:02. > :15:06.little hop. That is two of the most difficult moves linked together and
:15:07. > :15:11.of course, fantastic twisting as well. New good count that Brown,
:15:12. > :15:19.three and a half, meets the floor, goes into a front somersault with
:15:20. > :15:27.the half-time. -- you can count that round. That should call into the
:15:28. > :15:33.lead. Got to be a medal, but what colour? One gymnast has posted a
:15:34. > :15:40.higher difficulty is in qualifications all cells -- so still
:15:41. > :15:43.somebody who can beat that. Here comes the current European floor
:15:44. > :15:56.champion, from Great Britain, Kristian Thomas.
:15:57. > :16:09.Really elevate. The double twist forward, full twist forwards. Little
:16:10. > :16:19.step out on the landing. Plenty of flight and height. Very stylish
:16:20. > :16:32.gymnast, he led the British team superbly to the silver medal. 18
:16:33. > :16:52.routines, not a single error, not a fall. Good control. Now, big
:16:53. > :16:58.concentration. Has to finish with a D tumble, a double Arabian. That's
:16:59. > :17:05.the way to finish. Fantastic gymnast for Great Britain, Kristian Thomas.
:17:06. > :17:10.Very steady, super, precise. Time will tell. With Kristian, he has
:17:11. > :17:14.such a clever, constructed routine, it is so difficult but precise and
:17:15. > :17:19.neat at the same time which is why he is the current European champion.
:17:20. > :17:24.He just managed to stay in the floor. Some of his landings were
:17:25. > :17:29.slightly off the pace, but the clever routine. There he is, showing
:17:30. > :17:39.off his poor more work. He doesn't get to do that much any more. --
:17:40. > :17:43.pommel work. He is one of the more senior members, and this was a big
:17:44. > :18:05.ask. He will have to spend a lot of time recovering. He is in third.
:18:06. > :18:10.15.041 for Kristian Thomas. Pablo Braegger gets introduced to the home
:18:11. > :18:14.crowd. Currently holds the bronze medal at the European Championships
:18:15. > :18:19.on the floor from last year. He has the high bar final to come as well
:18:20. > :18:27.so no doubt the crowd will be cheering him at the beginning and
:18:28. > :18:33.end of this competition. Very nice two and a half twist. Double,
:18:34. > :18:45.double. He stuttered around and that landing will be expensive, it will
:18:46. > :18:50.be a 0.5 loss. I liked that, the second somersault was higher than
:18:51. > :19:00.the first, he really elevated. He is settled now. Lovely body-line,
:19:01. > :19:04.straight back in the handstand. Smooth lift, beautiful shoulder
:19:05. > :19:24.extension. Big, high roll-out there. Rapidly
:19:25. > :19:32.into this big last tumble, triple twist. This is almost compulsory
:19:33. > :19:41.finish, so many of them using triple twist, an E difficulty. I think he
:19:42. > :19:47.might have just went out but after that he seemed to stick every
:19:48. > :19:50.tumble, he had to make up for it. A lovely one and a half punch double
:19:51. > :20:13.twist. 15.100, Pablo Braegger into third.
:20:14. > :20:18.The bearded figure of Alexander Shatilov. He has been on the scene
:20:19. > :20:40.for a while now. 29 years old. He got himself a bronze medal back in
:20:41. > :20:46.2007. - lighted, full, nice into the two and a half. Does well for at all
:20:47. > :20:55.gymnast to stay in the floor. Pinpoint accuracy there. A little
:20:56. > :21:03.shrug of the shoulders. Compose, full, nice height, lift of the head.
:21:04. > :21:24.Originality, virtuosity. He has got it all. Going well, come on. Two and
:21:25. > :21:33.a half, tuck front full, super spatial awareness. Just got to hold
:21:34. > :21:38.on. Full twisting double back, what a shame, going out of the floor. Do
:21:39. > :21:46.you know, without having a team here, Shatilov hasn't worked
:21:47. > :21:50.yesterday, hasn't worked since his qualification competition and really
:21:51. > :21:53.looked quite fresh. You can see the difference. He just had a bit of
:21:54. > :21:57.trouble harnessing the last tumble but that was a really fabulous
:21:58. > :22:06.landing on the double twisting double back. Double twisting front,
:22:07. > :22:09.and really high lift. We couldn't see the feet but there was a
:22:10. > :22:17.suspicion of the fact that he might have been just over the line when he
:22:18. > :22:23.punched but that is the way to have no landing deductions, immediate
:22:24. > :22:34.punch. Here, just one twist in the double back.
:22:35. > :22:45.15.300, it is a huge score, he has gone into second. He is in the
:22:46. > :22:51.silver medal position. Brace yourselves, ladies and gentlemen,
:22:52. > :23:03.this is the four time world champion,
:23:04. > :23:19.Dragulescu, he has had every colour medal going. Nice to see you back.
:23:20. > :23:33.Hugely exciting, dynamic gymnast. Oh, but the very first tumble turn
:23:34. > :23:41.lands with the fought out. -- foot out. Those hours of practising
:23:42. > :23:47.landings, and even that was a clever step out. He disguised it but it was
:23:48. > :24:00.a step on landing. Steadying himself down with handstand.
:24:01. > :24:07.And the half twist, one and a half twist, that's better. The floor is
:24:08. > :24:22.quite bouncy and if you don't land with a lot of precision, it really
:24:23. > :24:28.coils and bounces you back-up -- recoils. Full twisting double back.
:24:29. > :24:34.Great stuff, still got that dynamic excitement. Mightily impressive and
:24:35. > :24:44.vastly entertaining. If you look at the difficulty, and the amount of
:24:45. > :24:50.twists, it will be right up there. One, two, half, little hop forward,
:24:51. > :24:52.but this is where you get the difficulty, by combining these
:24:53. > :25:00.difficult tumbles. There is the roll-out. And giving yourself that
:25:01. > :25:05.leeway by building the difficult tumbles. The final tumble was double
:25:06. > :25:12.twisting double back, that's how much power this gymnast has on the
:25:13. > :25:17.last tumble, from a little skip step. Hugely powerful, hugely
:25:18. > :25:34.entertaining and a real favourite within the gymnastic community. He
:25:35. > :25:43.is in second, 15.333! What a result! Great Britain's Dan Purvis rounds
:25:44. > :25:52.off this European men's final. He knows what it's like to get bronze.
:25:53. > :25:56.Full twisting double back, deep lunge forward. Unfortunately that
:25:57. > :26:06.will be costly. Better in the twisting tumble. Settle in now, Dan.
:26:07. > :26:20.That's the double front, and yet again, deep back. Two and a half,
:26:21. > :26:30.full. Just struggling to control the landings today. There is the wide
:26:31. > :26:39.arm handstand. Into the corner. Got to control those nerves. Better in
:26:40. > :26:43.the roll-out. I would say that is the best roll-out in the world, he
:26:44. > :26:55.really does that well. There's the final buzzer. Double Arabian, much
:26:56. > :27:03.better landing. A strong effort, a strong effort, after a wonderful
:27:04. > :27:09.team performance yesterday. He worked every single piece so he must
:27:10. > :27:13.be shattered. Really good, precise work, but he just lands with the
:27:14. > :27:19.chest down a little bit which means he has got to take a big step. He
:27:20. > :27:24.will get a double deduction there from the judges. He was superb on
:27:25. > :27:39.floor yesterday from the routine, and that was a wonderful way to
:27:40. > :27:52.finish. Dan Purvis scores 14.633. There is the new European floor
:27:53. > :28:09.champion. The results, then, of the men's floor final. Nagornyy, back
:28:10. > :28:14.from retirement. A little disappointing to be honest. It has
:28:15. > :28:18.been a tough week. Early start this morning so my legs didn't seem to
:28:19. > :28:22.have it in them. Go back and hopefully improve on that team. So
:28:23. > :28:30.no individual apparatus medal, but you did get the team medal. How has
:28:31. > :28:35.the week gone for you? Great, the team has done so well. Really
:28:36. > :28:40.positive, looking towards Rio now. It has been a successful week.
:28:41. > :28:48.It's a shame he said he feels a bit disappointed, after what they have
:28:49. > :28:54.achieved. That Nagornyy, the Russian gymnast, the lightness of touch and
:28:55. > :28:59.the flair to take that title. Yes, the perfect combination of power and
:29:00. > :29:05.elegance, performed perfectly and the well-deserved champion. And the
:29:06. > :29:14.other medallists, Beth, you could get back in the sport! 35 years old.
:29:15. > :29:21.Two of those medallists have a combined age of 64! I think it shows
:29:22. > :29:33.a experience plays a big part. Each competition you do, you learn from
:29:34. > :29:38.it. Dragulescu has been winning medals since 2009 and he wants to go
:29:39. > :29:43.to Rio and win a medal. They have that experience and they keep calm
:29:44. > :29:47.and collected. All eyes will be on Great Britain's Louis Smith in the
:29:48. > :29:55.next European final. We are now moving on to pommels, and Louis is
:29:56. > :29:56.hoping to retain his European title and state his case for a place in
:29:57. > :30:11.Rio. Louis Smith, delivers. Goodness me
:30:12. > :30:15.he didn't let anyone down there. I am at full fitness, the aim is to
:30:16. > :30:20.peak for when Rio is here and I feel good enough to do a good score these
:30:21. > :30:27.championships, what are they really about? It is a chicken run, it is
:30:28. > :30:30.nice to put on European champions, we want medals and to do well but it
:30:31. > :30:37.is an Olympic year, it takes a back-seat. The Olympics definitely
:30:38. > :30:41.takes priority. You don't want to take unnecessary risks and get
:30:42. > :30:44.injured, you want to leave the competition fit and healthy and try
:30:45. > :30:49.to build as a team, showing the nation what we are capable of on
:30:50. > :30:55.what we do. Do you have two up your game on the pommel horse? It is very
:30:56. > :31:02.difficult for a specialist to be selected. We are not the strongest
:31:03. > :31:07.on pommel horse, we have a self bit. Without me in the team, you are
:31:08. > :31:14.losing maybe 1.5 marks from the team event. I am quite consistent, I
:31:15. > :31:18.sometimes make mistakes but it doesn't happen very often and you
:31:19. > :31:21.cannot I experience, it is definitely scary to step up to the
:31:22. > :31:24.plate knowing you have one job to do but I think I am one of the
:31:25. > :31:31.world-class pommel horse workers and at the moment, but -- the moment I
:31:32. > :31:35.start buckling under pressure is when I have to step down. How would
:31:36. > :31:44.you compare yourself now to be for London? I was able to train more
:31:45. > :31:47.hours, do more apparatus, I felt younger and healthier, my body was
:31:48. > :31:51.like an elastic band. Now that is a lot more difficult. Doing the hours
:31:52. > :31:57.in the gym and a lot more conscious of what my body can do, it has been
:31:58. > :32:03.really juggling, trying to vary the routine while meeting the health of
:32:04. > :32:07.the body. Do you think it is a big chance to nail that place? It is a
:32:08. > :32:11.big chance. Since the World Championships last year in October,
:32:12. > :32:13.on the selecting criteria they said everything from that World
:32:14. > :32:19.Championships is counted for selection. So I had that, I did the
:32:20. > :32:23.British Championships, did very well, have done a few Grand Prix
:32:24. > :32:27.since then, the European Championships, if I do good scores
:32:28. > :32:30.here, it sets me up with a good chance. Would be good to put in a
:32:31. > :32:35.good performance here and we should find that the fate of the British
:32:36. > :32:41.team. The 27-year-old brimming with confidence. It goes back to what you
:32:42. > :32:46.were saying about Dragulescu and Shatilov, later in their career to
:32:47. > :32:50.get more comfortable. You do but Louis alluded to it, you have to be
:32:51. > :32:53.a lot more cover with your training, you cannot do the numbers the
:32:54. > :32:56.youngsters are doing, you have to let your body recover and maybe do
:32:57. > :33:03.slightly different training programmes so one it comes to, he
:33:04. > :33:08.won't do the same programme as what Max is doing. It has not done him
:33:09. > :33:12.any harm so far. For sure and it is important to look good and there he
:33:13. > :33:15.was in that clip with a little cap on keeping his hair still under
:33:16. > :33:22.wraps and everybody wondered what he looked like. We are going on a trip
:33:23. > :33:26.through memory lane. That was 2012. We were in Neolithic village and he
:33:27. > :33:29.was on a half-day and we asked him where he was disappearing too and he
:33:30. > :33:36.said he was going home to get his hair cut. This one, what was your
:33:37. > :33:40.reaction when he turned up in the gym with this? I remember he turned
:33:41. > :33:47.up and he had a hat on for the whole session, he wouldn't show was what
:33:48. > :33:53.he was. He changes his hair so much. Just used to it by then. During the
:33:54. > :33:58.little chat we were talking about feeling a lot younger and feeling
:33:59. > :34:01.more elastic. We can just see, 12 years ago when Britain started to
:34:02. > :34:06.make their mark on the European stage, on this particular piece of
:34:07. > :34:12.apparatus, we see a very young and Keatings as well. The secret of our
:34:13. > :34:17.juniors on this piece of apparatus because now we are world-renowned on
:34:18. > :34:22.this piece. Yes, I think it started first in 2004 and then 2006 and
:34:23. > :34:25.again it is about their belief, seeing that someone could do it so
:34:26. > :34:28.we try to follow in his footsteps and it has just progressed from
:34:29. > :34:33.there, Ruby and it has now become one of our most famous pieces. And
:34:34. > :34:36.you move up through the junior ranks and he became our very first
:34:37. > :34:41.European champion on pommel at a senior level. Here you are, this was
:34:42. > :34:52.then. What do you remember about this routine. Did you know you were
:34:53. > :34:57.going to win? No. I remember Burke hadn't made the final, the door was
:34:58. > :35:00.open. I just knew I had to put in a big performance and let the judges
:35:01. > :35:06.judge it. Hopefully I would get a medal. When you look at the table of
:35:07. > :35:10.achievement on this piece, it really is something. You still have more
:35:11. > :35:15.titles at European level than anybody else. Look at that. Where do
:35:16. > :35:26.you keep all your European medals? I have got a few of them in frames
:35:27. > :35:29.with pictures. I think there are a couple in my kitchen drawer.
:35:30. > :35:35.LAUGHTER . Time to see if Louis can put
:35:36. > :35:40.another one into his kitchen drawer, but go over.
:35:41. > :35:46.Louis will be going fifth, quite a good position, there is no Max
:35:47. > :36:00.Whitlock. The main challengers are going to come from Seligman from
:36:01. > :36:09.Croatia and Merdinyan. But get to the action. COMMENTATOR: First
:36:10. > :36:16.gymnast in the main's pommel final. Has got a bronze medal. ,
:36:17. > :36:31.Tommasone. Back down into the single legwork. Great execution and
:36:32. > :36:37.amplitude in the legs. Super like separation. In between the handles.
:36:38. > :36:42.The Russian Circle, very difficult. There is the double leg circles,
:36:43. > :36:46.slight loss of form on the one handle, that is where the gymnast
:36:47. > :36:51.gain the difficulty by combining the skills on the one handle. Travelled
:36:52. > :36:59.down the horse, another like separation. Losing a few tense every
:37:00. > :37:07.time and is off. That will be costly, one full mark. Tommasone
:37:08. > :37:11.will lose that. What happened there? That was a much bigger routine that
:37:12. > :37:19.he did in qualification and he just ran out of steam. They will be going
:37:20. > :37:22.all out to beat Louis, they have to put everything in and this is what
:37:23. > :37:25.happens, the more difficult the routine, the more chance you have
:37:26. > :37:30.falling off, straight back in into the hands that, good discount,
:37:31. > :37:37.disappointing start for Tommasone of France. Where his hips round in the
:37:38. > :37:41.wrong direction? I cannot see a mistake, I think he just ran out of
:37:42. > :37:46.steam. He was fighting through the performance, two times where he
:37:47. > :37:51.split his legs and had to fight to stay on, that takes a lot of energy
:37:52. > :37:57.from you, you will be tired then that is what will happen. He knows
:37:58. > :38:08.that will not challenge. Robert Seligman from Croatia. He was
:38:09. > :38:15.just outside the medals at last year's Europeans on pommel horse.
:38:16. > :38:22.Exploit four difficulty but he has good execution. -- 6.4 difficulty.
:38:23. > :38:30.Posted a good score in qualification. He touched the hearts
:38:31. > :38:33.at the start, but look at the lovely extension through the hips at the
:38:34. > :38:38.front of the swing, the straighter you can hold the body, the better
:38:39. > :38:45.and that is very difficult work, the multiple cycles on one hand. Dear
:38:46. > :38:50.me! Is this going to be one of those finals where everybody is going for
:38:51. > :38:58.broke and just cannot maintain it? What happened there? I think with
:38:59. > :39:04.his circle, you can easily become out of control and I think he was
:39:05. > :39:11.off on the one handle which made him lose his balance. Because he would
:39:12. > :39:16.sit round so quickly. The same lovely swing, the judges will not
:39:17. > :39:23.have much to take off the execution scores. Really travelling well
:39:24. > :39:29.along. He is very fast. His hands have to move very quickly to work
:39:30. > :39:34.with that very first swing but it makes pommel horse spectacular.
:39:35. > :39:39.Piling in the difficulty now. Very quiet finish and other than the fall
:39:40. > :39:45.in the middle it was beautiful. He was really pushing and he lifted his
:39:46. > :39:50.hips at the back, the shoulders went down and there is only one place to
:39:51. > :39:57.go and that is on the mat, turning into quite a pommel horse final. Two
:39:58. > :40:02.from two falls. He certainly has the style and the difficulty. Could well
:40:03. > :40:09.be a case of whatever you do when you are on the horse, do it well.
:40:10. > :40:33.We call to one of the oldest gymnasts in this final, 31 years old
:40:34. > :40:37.Bertoncelj. Can he stay on? Starts off with the scissor work into the
:40:38. > :40:44.middle. Very unique move. Lovely to see. Onto the one handle, again,
:40:45. > :40:52.such extension in the circles, really nice to see. The backwards
:40:53. > :41:00.move across the horse. This is going really well.
:41:01. > :41:11.If he hits this dismount, this could be up there. I don't want to say I
:41:12. > :41:15.jinxed him there! That was going so well. I think it is going to be one
:41:16. > :41:23.of these finals. Three out of three, what is going on? Whatever is in the
:41:24. > :41:27.water over there! I don't quite understand it. Sometimes this
:41:28. > :41:36.happens with pommel horse. It is almost as if the thing is jinxed.
:41:37. > :41:40.Finishes off with a handstand this mind, so unfortunately was right at
:41:41. > :41:45.the end of his routine. At this moment in time it is just about
:41:46. > :41:50.staying on. They could reduce their difficulty and just try to stay on.
:41:51. > :42:06.Merdinyan, can he be the first gymnast get through a routine
:42:07. > :42:12.without a fall. 31 use old, European silver medal last year. And many
:42:13. > :42:17.times at the Euros on pommel horse. Starts with a single legwork,
:42:18. > :42:21.gymnasts have two short double legwork, circles with the feet
:42:22. > :42:28.together and he almost came to grief but fought hard and some single
:42:29. > :42:34.legwork. Quite a new innovation, the pirouetting in the handstand. Very
:42:35. > :42:38.smooth, up and down into those. Really made pommel horse and
:42:39. > :42:45.exciting, he just has to hang on there, keep his concentration. Fast
:42:46. > :42:49.hands. Keep the shoulders in line. As the guys have been saying, he
:42:50. > :42:56.knows he just estimated through to the end. Very good swing, very good
:42:57. > :43:04.style. RP goes, into the dismount and gets through. Fantastic, he will
:43:05. > :43:10.be really relieved. He got his way through every attempt of the 6.7
:43:11. > :43:14.difficulty. That will be our leader and he did fight, twice in that
:43:15. > :43:19.routine I thought he was going to come off and that just shows the
:43:20. > :43:23.determination in that young man. Really packed the difficulty in that
:43:24. > :43:27.routine. Technically in my mind, not the best we have seen, however, he
:43:28. > :43:32.as a mark up on everybody else because he stayed on the apparatus.
:43:33. > :43:36.That was a mistake at the start, fortunately he managed just a
:43:37. > :43:41.flicker in the legs and stayed on. There you can see. The difficult
:43:42. > :43:47.work with the flaring to handstand, down into the flair but battled
:43:48. > :43:54.again to keep the momentum going. 31 years of age. Using all of his
:43:55. > :44:04.experience to get through that Paul Mulrennan team. -- to get through
:44:05. > :44:09.all of that routine. That matches Louis Smith, unless Louis decides to
:44:10. > :44:15.go higher in terms of difficulty. The current European champion, Louis
:44:16. > :44:25.Smith. World silver, Olympics over medallist. Can he retain his
:44:26. > :44:34.European title? It is time to find out. Come on, Louis. Time to stamp
:44:35. > :44:44.your authority in this pommel horse final. Just keep the composure.
:44:45. > :44:51.Single leg, straight to handstand. And again. Locks out. Picks up into
:44:52. > :44:59.the double leg circle now. On the one handle. There are the Stockley
:45:00. > :45:08.'s. That gives the difficulty. Into the Russian on the one handle. Into
:45:09. > :45:16.a full spindle. Now that was a slip from the horse. That was definitely
:45:17. > :45:23.a slip from the horse. Just there, it slips of the side. Lack of chalk
:45:24. > :45:27.or shiny leather? It can be a mixture of a lot of things. Sweaty
:45:28. > :45:30.hands which caused him to slip off the side. He is back on and back to
:45:31. > :45:47.business. Very efficient. Still the chance of a medal, up into
:45:48. > :45:52.a handstand. There tap of the chest but a disappointing routine for
:45:53. > :45:57.Louis. Nothing technically wrong, but he obviously didn't place it
:45:58. > :46:04.quite securely enough on the top of the horse. He was a bit too much
:46:05. > :46:07.down the side so he slipped. I don't think so because his hand was on the
:46:08. > :46:12.top, to me that was a slip on the leather. You often find as you
:46:13. > :46:17.travel around the world and compete on these apparatus, if someone has
:46:18. > :46:22.bought something on the leather before, some gymnasts use water,
:46:23. > :46:27.honey, salt, he has caught that and he's completely off. The others have
:46:28. > :46:38.fallen through technical faults. That was no fault of his own. Louis
:46:39. > :46:49.is into second. Merdinyan leading the competition.
:46:50. > :47:03.Kuksenkov from Russia, the next gymnast to challenge. He picks up
:47:04. > :47:11.into the double leg circles. Nice one handle work, which is a
:47:12. > :47:16.requirement. Up into the handstand. Into the flair work, this is really
:47:17. > :47:25.good work. And again, he has actually increased the difficulty.
:47:26. > :47:42.Travelling along the horse in flairs. This is going really well.
:47:43. > :47:48.Oh! Again! I think Dan you will have to be careful about saying that.
:47:49. > :47:52.This is unprecedented! He upped that a lot compared to his previous
:47:53. > :47:57.routine. You could see he was struggling towards the end, and
:47:58. > :48:02.there is the dismount to finish. There is only one gymnast who has
:48:03. > :48:09.managed to get through a routine. It certainly is a very unusual pommel
:48:10. > :48:14.horse final. Dan is doing the maths, he has upped that considerably over
:48:15. > :48:21.seven. I'm thinking that is quite a lot actually, towards 7.2 maybe. It
:48:22. > :48:32.is always a question, to really throw the difficulty. 14.566. He is
:48:33. > :48:49.sitting in third at the moment. Let's see if he increases the
:48:50. > :48:55.difficulty or concentrates on the execution. 14.566 is the score to
:48:56. > :49:03.get into the medals at the moment. He did a great job for the team last
:49:04. > :49:13.night. He's certainly working well here. Lots of pace. Good style. He
:49:14. > :49:18.knows he has just got to keep concentrating and go cleanly through
:49:19. > :49:29.this routine. Keeping those legs locked together. Up, round, and he
:49:30. > :49:34.has made it! He could get silver. He could get Switzerland's first-ever
:49:35. > :49:40.pommel medal maybe, or maybe not the first but the first in a long time.
:49:41. > :49:46.Really fast hands, hugely difficult circling in the middle. Swing, if
:49:47. > :49:50.anything a little bit skewed, shoulders slightly out of line with
:49:51. > :49:55.the horse at times, but in this final just to get through from start
:49:56. > :50:13.to finish is likely to put you on the podium. He has gone up into
:50:14. > :50:27.second, 14.9 for Baumann and ahead of Louis Smith. Capable of 15.1, can
:50:28. > :50:36.he get himself a medal here and push Louis Smith out of the medals. Doing
:50:37. > :50:49.everything he can to keep calm and remain composed. Starting off with
:50:50. > :50:54.the scissors to handstand. Lovely full turn on the one arm. Onto the
:50:55. > :51:17.one handle. Just doing his best to stay on here.
:51:18. > :51:26.Up onto the one handle as well. He's fighting, he's fighting. And up into
:51:27. > :51:30.the dismount. It is going to be close. He whipped up that dismount,
:51:31. > :51:36.he wanted to get off as quick as possible. He's through, but is he on
:51:37. > :51:42.the medal podium? That is the question that the judges had to
:51:43. > :51:53.answer. Louis Smith Great Britain has 14.733, Baumann 14.9. Maybe not
:51:54. > :51:58.15, but it could go above Louis' score. There is something about the
:51:59. > :52:03.Russians today, a real energy amongst the team. They are enjoying
:52:04. > :52:09.themselves. And what a performance, to go out there after you have had
:52:10. > :52:14.five falls and to pull off a routine like that. There were times on the
:52:15. > :52:20.spindle again, when you think, has he just stayed on? He did really
:52:21. > :52:30.well. He has never had a European pommel medal, he has now, he has
:52:31. > :52:45.gone into second. Baumann, for Switzerland, takes the bronze. There
:52:46. > :52:51.is the new champion, Merdinyan. Confirmation of the men's pommel
:52:52. > :52:57.horse final. Merdinyan, the European champion.
:52:58. > :53:02.It is not often we see you fall off the pommel horse, what happened? I
:53:03. > :53:06.don't know, I felt good, I started my routine of clean and before I
:53:07. > :53:14.know it's my hand had slipped off the side. When that happens, there
:53:15. > :53:18.is no saving it. Sometimes you can rectify the mistake but it was so
:53:19. > :53:24.quick there was nothing I can do. Was there not enough chalk on your
:53:25. > :53:30.hands? Describe what that is down to. As gymnasts we try to make the
:53:31. > :53:34.sport look easy, when we do it, we try to show how beautiful and easy
:53:35. > :53:38.it is but underneath all of that it is a difficult job. Everyone trips
:53:39. > :53:43.up when they are walking now and again. It is exactly what happened
:53:44. > :53:48.on the pommel horse. I was going through my emotions and my hand
:53:49. > :53:52.slipped off the side. Maybe it's because I'm too muscly!
:53:53. > :53:55.It is one thing to walk down the road and triple but that is another
:53:56. > :53:59.to try and post one of the most difficult pommel horse routines in
:54:00. > :54:05.the world and I think that was the issue, that everybody was going all
:54:06. > :54:10.out because the big guns were there. Yes, obviously Rio is not far away
:54:11. > :54:15.so they want to try out their routines and know that that is the
:54:16. > :54:19.routine they will use in Rio. Gradually as people were starting to
:54:20. > :54:25.fall, as a mentality of a gymnast you think, do I step back and go
:54:26. > :54:29.clean to stay on, but then you are not rehearsing the routine you maybe
:54:30. > :54:40.do in the gym so it can go against you. Also the mindset, if I stay on,
:54:41. > :54:47.I could be European champion. I think for Kuksenkov that was a big
:54:48. > :54:52.thing. And you know the mind games that can be played in a final like
:54:53. > :54:55.that. Yes, I have had it before where a lot of people fell in front
:54:56. > :55:00.of me and I thought this could be my year, then I have made a mistake. It
:55:01. > :55:08.is just one of those things that can happen. This is Louis' moment here.
:55:09. > :55:12.You were sitting beside me in commentary, you were shocked. I
:55:13. > :55:16.didn't expect it. Usually you can see if they are about to fall, if
:55:17. > :55:21.their shoulders are in the wrong place, but that was a random error,
:55:22. > :55:26.just one of those things. We heard Craig talking in commentary about,
:55:27. > :55:31.basically using the contents of his kitchen cupboard, when he said what
:55:32. > :55:39.some gymnasts put on, but it can be an issue who is going on before you.
:55:40. > :55:44.Yes, some use honey, some use sugar water, some just use chalk.
:55:45. > :55:47.Sometimes there might be some honey left on the apparatus but
:55:48. > :55:52.unfortunately that is the elite level sport. You cannot even blame
:55:53. > :55:58.it on a technical error. Louis didn't know it had happened until it
:55:59. > :56:01.had happened. It is not a bad thing. Obviously he will be disappointed
:56:02. > :56:07.today but it is better that it happens now than in eight weeks.
:56:08. > :56:18.What did you use? I was just chalk and water. Dan? Just chalk on the
:56:19. > :56:25.pommel horse, but sugar water on the P bars. Just the one you get down
:56:26. > :56:29.the supermarket! Perfect. With every score counting, there was all sorts
:56:30. > :56:33.of pressure on the British team, none more so than on the shoulders
:56:34. > :56:37.of Courtney Tulloch, having already qualified for the rings final he did
:56:38. > :56:48.a remarkable job in securing the team silver. Here he is talking to
:56:49. > :56:56.David. Courtney Tulloch for Great Britain. How do you feel to be here?
:56:57. > :57:02.It must be a great opportunity for you. Yes, I got told pretty late
:57:03. > :57:06.that Max wasn't going to be here so luckily I was ready and I had been
:57:07. > :57:12.doing a lot of competitions. I am excited to be here and obviously I'm
:57:13. > :57:16.happy. What is the importance of these championships for you
:57:17. > :57:28.personally? I just want to go out there and do the P bars and help the
:57:29. > :57:32.team. That is the most important thing, and what the selectors are
:57:33. > :57:37.looking at is who can benefit the team the most and that is what I'm
:57:38. > :57:44.trying to do. Have you tried to add anything else to your gymnastics in
:57:45. > :57:50.order to make you more selectable? Yes, I have started doing all around
:57:51. > :57:55.since the worlds in Glasgow. I have been doing more apparatus and trying
:57:56. > :57:58.to get my difficulty levels up. My vault is coming along, floor is
:57:59. > :58:06.getting better so I'm happy with the progress I am making. You get big
:58:07. > :58:13.scores on the rings, don't you, and you have your own move. Tell us
:58:14. > :58:18.about it. I remember when I was pretty young, I was messing about on
:58:19. > :58:24.one of the rings machines, and the thought of it, I remember doing it
:58:25. > :58:29.and getting my friend to record it. I thought this is cool, but then I
:58:30. > :58:35.forgot about it completely. It is almost like a position of laying in
:58:36. > :58:41.bed but on the rings. It is hard to explain but when I do it in the
:58:42. > :58:47.routine, people see what it is. That is immensely powerful... I took it
:58:48. > :58:52.out of my routine just to improve it, working hard in the gym to get
:58:53. > :58:57.it as straight as possible. It is back in my routine now, and it has
:58:58. > :59:02.been going really well. I have just got to prove myself at big
:59:03. > :59:09.competitions like this. Quite something, isn't it, at the age of
:59:10. > :59:16.12 when you realise you can do the Tulloch! We said earlier on what a
:59:17. > :59:23.performance he had put in, proving he is in with a good shout as far as
:59:24. > :59:27.selection is concerned in Rio. Yes, his strength positions on the rings
:59:28. > :59:33.are perfect, it literally comes down to the dismount. If you stick that,
:59:34. > :59:38.you will come out with a big score. To hit that 15.7, you have got to
:59:39. > :59:46.stick the discount. And just a word on the quiet progress he has been
:59:47. > :59:51.making. It shows when he did the bars in the team final, before he
:59:52. > :59:56.would be used for rings and also parallel bars and he will start
:59:57. > :59:59.doing more and more. He has had the 90 rest, our gymnasts have been
:00:00. > :00:03.doing an enormous amount of gymnastics, but this is the way it
:00:04. > :00:07.works when you do the team final and the individual apparatus finals next
:00:08. > :00:12.to each other, how do you find it back in the day, how did you keep
:00:13. > :00:15.fresh? Hill it is difficult, an unusual decision that they put the
:00:16. > :00:20.senior apparatus finals this morning, so the seniors had a 12
:00:21. > :00:24.hour turnaround, which for some day like Courtney that is using an
:00:25. > :00:28.immense amount of strength and that routine, it is not a lot of recovery
:00:29. > :00:34.time but they have the team and medical staff out there helping him
:00:35. > :00:37.recover. He has done his best, he and the rest of the medical team and
:00:38. > :00:43.let's have a look at who he is up against.
:00:44. > :00:46.Petrounias, current world and European champion, he will be going
:00:47. > :01:01.second. Abliazin qualified third. Van Gelder
:01:02. > :01:06.is the last gymnast to go. Let's join the lads on rings.
:01:07. > :01:16.COMMENTATOR: Petrounias, unsurprisingly the highest
:01:17. > :01:23.qualifier, the current world and European champion.
:01:24. > :01:31.He is performing a 6.8 difficulty. Just wait and watch the execution.
:01:32. > :01:41.Immensely compact and powerful gymnast. The pickle to comprehend
:01:42. > :01:46.watching this just how strong he is -- difficult to comprehend. That is
:01:47. > :01:58.a cycle round, Maltese into the top flange. Bounce back to the Maltese.
:01:59. > :02:04.Th lifts his head. Circle round to the Maltese, shoulders flat, body
:02:05. > :02:06.level with the rings. That is what the judges are looking for. Blocks
:02:07. > :02:27.out the handstand. In the crucifix. The front
:02:28. > :02:33.somersault, straight into the crucifix, open hands. Just to prove
:02:34. > :02:40.how strong he is. Double pike. Swings to the handstand, effortless.
:02:41. > :02:45.It is the amplitude. Double twisted, double pike, little adjustment on
:02:46. > :02:54.landing, cracking routine. The sharpness and the precision of those
:02:55. > :02:55.swings, just locks it into position. He is really a specialist. A
:02:56. > :03:09.virtuoso. Perfect physique for the sport. And
:03:10. > :03:13.the idea is to hold the body in a completely straight line and that he
:03:14. > :03:19.does, look at the power through the shoulders. The list of the chin as
:03:20. > :03:25.if to say, I can do this so easy and I can look up as well. And of
:03:26. > :03:33.course, a relatively young gymnast who has grabbed the swinging
:03:34. > :03:38.elements. That super straight line. The only question is that this man,
:03:39. > :03:41.you can see the coach slightly edgily there and a little hop
:03:42. > :03:48.forward, but really excellent work. It is a huge score. Execution in the
:03:49. > :04:17.nines. Higher than qualification. Next up. Never medalled at the
:04:18. > :04:21.European Championships before, could this be his year? He has been in the
:04:22. > :04:40.final many a time. Fantastic strong left. Another
:04:41. > :04:45.circle to a completely straight strength move. Each of these
:04:46. > :04:52.strength elements has got a difficulty score, add them together
:04:53. > :04:57.and the bonus goes up, so the score goes higher. Swung to handstand,
:04:58. > :05:01.little shake at the top and those swinging elements not quite so
:05:02. > :05:10.convincing. Although the strength hold at the end of it was.
:05:11. > :05:19.Each strength element has to be held. The judges have to get their
:05:20. > :05:22.mental clocks out and make sure it is held long enough, just wobbling
:05:23. > :05:27.around a little bit with the rings, not quite in a straight line, lovely
:05:28. > :05:35.dismount but the handstands will tell with the judges's score. Little
:05:36. > :05:39.loss of form, spot-on on the strength elements. You'll notice a
:05:40. > :05:43.lot of the gymnasts now within the crucifix are lifting their hands of
:05:44. > :05:51.the rings, they don't get any more difficulty for this or value, The
:05:52. > :05:55.Jacks show to the judges the virtuosity and the strength they can
:05:56. > :06:01.do that. Punching his hands. That was a good routine. Not good enough
:06:02. > :06:12.to go into first place. Good enough for second at the moment. 15.6.
:06:13. > :06:33.he got a bronze medal at the Championships that year -- Abliazin.
:06:34. > :06:41.Strong start. Write to the Maltese. Flat with the rings. Watch this.
:06:42. > :06:49.Press back to the Maltese. Very difficult work. Now he needs to work
:06:50. > :06:58.on the swing. Double cut, double pike, back up to the top, much
:06:59. > :07:04.better than yesterday. That is when you circle round to the crucifix and
:07:05. > :07:10.kicked back into the crucifix. Little bit of a swing on the rings.
:07:11. > :07:18.Have to control that. Forward into the handstand. Backward long swing.
:07:19. > :07:24.Needs a good dismount. Double twist than double straight, went back on
:07:25. > :07:28.the landing. I tell you what, he has some good timing to try to control
:07:29. > :07:32.the rings. You have to drop down from that handstand position at
:07:33. > :07:36.exactly the right time to try to counteract the swing you have got
:07:37. > :07:40.going and he managed it, got his dismount round without over
:07:41. > :07:47.rotating. Huge dismount as well. Of course, he is a great vaulter, so
:07:48. > :07:53.the dismount phase is not a problem for him.
:07:54. > :08:06.He goes into second. Joint second with daddy -- Davtyan.
:08:07. > :08:27.Ait Said of France. Tied with Abliazin last year. He was a former
:08:28. > :08:37.European champion on rings. Just a tiny bit low with the feet.
:08:38. > :08:53.That is a little bit better. Very stylish. Shoulders well in line
:08:54. > :08:58.with the hands. That is what the judges have to decide, that is what
:08:59. > :09:05.all the little deductions are from, very smooth on the swings.
:09:06. > :09:20.Each of these plans she is our slightly below the hips and just a
:09:21. > :09:25.little of in the back on the handstand. But really nice routine,
:09:26. > :09:31.showing good balance, swung forwards and backwards. Here comes the
:09:32. > :09:34.dismount, the double straight with full twist, good control, a very
:09:35. > :09:41.complete routine, even if there were tiny errors. Probably one of the
:09:42. > :09:47.weaker part of the routine is when he came out of the double hike,
:09:48. > :09:52.little bit clunky, but then fixed well into the Maltese. That is where
:09:53. > :09:57.the body is level with the rings. If the shoulders are at had high, that
:09:58. > :10:01.will be a 10th and the judges, these are the best judges in the world,
:10:02. > :10:05.that will not get past them and he had to do a few little alterations
:10:06. > :10:10.that Christine picked up on on the handstand but the finish, the judges
:10:11. > :10:15.will remember that for that superb. It is not enough. Ait Said into
:10:16. > :10:24.fourth place. Here we go, the former junior
:10:25. > :10:30.European champion for Great Britain it is Courtney Tulloch. Great
:10:31. > :10:38.Britain have never had a rings medal, could this be the day?
:10:39. > :10:53.The most difficult routine in qualification. 6.9 but must execute
:10:54. > :11:00.well. Strong start. Up into the top palnch watch this. That is his own
:11:01. > :11:13.move, the Tulloch. The Maltese, lift of the head. Now he needs the swing.
:11:14. > :11:23.Into handstand. Rises to the top planch. Into the crucifix. Little
:11:24. > :11:37.nod of the head. Showing the amplitude. Double pike. Into the
:11:38. > :11:42.Maltese. Position is superb. Fix the handstand. All on the dismount. Full
:11:43. > :11:48.twist, little adjustment, super routine. Could be good enough to go
:11:49. > :11:58.into the top three. A crucial dismount isn't enough -- is it
:11:59. > :12:08.enough? He scored 15.7 in the final yesterday. He needs 15.63 to join
:12:09. > :12:17.the silver medal winning party which is a tie. Look at that superb shape
:12:18. > :12:22.you can just imagine, you know how hard it is holding that shape laying
:12:23. > :12:28.flat on the floor, let alone holding the rings as well and he lifts right
:12:29. > :12:32.to a dead straight line, he really is powerful, he has worked very hard
:12:33. > :12:41.on the swinging and the dismounting phase. Throws the rings away, wraps
:12:42. > :12:45.that full twist in the position. Good style, legs locked together,
:12:46. > :12:54.just a little hop back, he managed to keep away from the big set, that
:12:55. > :13:04.was super work. It is very close. Courtney in fourth, outside the
:13:05. > :13:09.medals tied for silver. Th this is the last gymnast to go, a man who
:13:10. > :13:16.will have something to say. Van Gelder. Three-time European
:13:17. > :13:26.champion, former world champion on the rings.
:13:27. > :13:35.This, this is strength, unbelievable. Circle round to the
:13:36. > :13:43.top planche. Look at how steady his feet are. Maltese, maybe a little
:13:44. > :13:49.high. Into the inverted crucifix. That is a double cup and that double
:13:50. > :13:57.pike, into the top planche. A little flicker of the legs, that is because
:13:58. > :14:04.of the strain. Maltese. Into the crucifix.
:14:05. > :14:15.Got to fix the handstand. Full twist, double straight. Good in the
:14:16. > :14:22.dismount. Good in parts. I don't think just good enough. It was a
:14:23. > :14:26.very similar difficulty score to Petrounias. This will be down to
:14:27. > :14:33.execution. It was looking very clean and precise, incredible strength in
:14:34. > :14:38.those presses. One of the things that up about this routine is that
:14:39. > :14:41.it was quite short and you can pack the difficulty in and you don't have
:14:42. > :14:50.to make a long routine, you don't get too weary. With untidy feet.
:14:51. > :14:58.You can see he is shaking with the effort. The less moves you do, if
:14:59. > :15:03.you only have to do ten moves, you can only be deducted for little
:15:04. > :15:10.errors ten times. I felt this was quite a short routine, quite a
:15:11. > :15:16.clever routine. Yes, very clever but the swinging element is the weakest
:15:17. > :15:28.part of that routine. Van Gelder outside of the medals in fourth. It
:15:29. > :15:34.ties with Courtney Tulloch. Two ties in this final, but there is your
:15:35. > :15:43.champion yet again! Petrounias. He is world champion and again he is
:15:44. > :15:48.European champion. Confirmation. It juniors retains his European title
:15:49. > :15:53.to go along with a world title he has.
:15:54. > :16:01.on the quiet progress he has been making.
:16:02. > :16:07.It was an amazing rings final, really strong. I love watching it
:16:08. > :16:13.because I look up to a lot of them. It was really close between all of
:16:14. > :16:17.us. A lot of positives to take away and I'm pleased. And looking forward
:16:18. > :16:25.towards Rio, I suppose selection is coming up. Do you feel able to
:16:26. > :16:30.improve? Yes, my goal is to be in that team. There's a lot of us
:16:31. > :16:35.fighting. I want to take this as a positive and fight my way into the
:16:36. > :16:40.team. It is nice to hear that Courtney enjoyed watching the final,
:16:41. > :16:43.we did too and we will be talking about Rio selection shortly but the
:16:44. > :16:48.finals for Britain keep on coming, as they do for Kristian Thomas. It
:16:49. > :16:57.is time for the vaults now, and it is a piece on which Kristian has
:16:58. > :17:03.made many historic leaps and landings. Let's hear from the big
:17:04. > :17:09.man. COMMENTATOR: Bring it all home, big
:17:10. > :17:16.man, this is down to you. This is just what was needed! Kristian
:17:17. > :17:22.Thomas, you are incredible! That night in London was so special
:17:23. > :17:32.for the team. 95% of that crowd was there tattoo -- to cheer on Great
:17:33. > :17:39.Britain. The way the team competition went was that I was the
:17:40. > :17:43.last man on floor. I was so confident I was going to deliver
:17:44. > :17:48.that routine, when I finished I kind of knew we had won the medal, but
:17:49. > :17:54.you never know what will happen. There was a bit of drama, where we
:17:55. > :17:57.second or bronze. It was one of those occasions that I know will
:17:58. > :18:03.live with me for the rest of the life. For you, a good performance
:18:04. > :18:09.here in Bern, what would that do in your head for selection? The
:18:10. > :18:14.European Championships are step towards the Olympics. We know we can
:18:15. > :18:19.take away from it the good, the bad, what we can work on for the summer,
:18:20. > :18:24.but at the same time we are all vying for five spots in the Olympic
:18:25. > :18:28.team so we need to go out there and produce the results we know we are
:18:29. > :18:34.capable of. We want to give the selection committee the headache of
:18:35. > :18:36.who to take. The good thing about having multiple finals is that it
:18:37. > :18:45.gives you more opportunities to do that. COMMENTATOR: Come on, a
:18:46. > :18:51.Kristian. Really needs to be precise here. You cannot be much more
:18:52. > :19:01.precise than that. That is the stuff of dreams from Kristian Thomas.
:19:02. > :19:05.Vault is one of those apparatus where such a lot can happen in a
:19:06. > :19:10.short space of time and landings are crucial. If I can do that, that
:19:11. > :19:18.gives me an opportunity. It is over so quickly, and you have this burst
:19:19. > :19:22.of adrenaline, and then it is over within a matter of seconds. It is
:19:23. > :19:25.quite a tough apparatus in the finals but nonetheless I'm looking
:19:26. > :19:29.forward to it and hopefully I will be able to seize my chance in the
:19:30. > :19:35.final as well. Quite nice to be reminiscing about
:19:36. > :19:39.Antwerp, 2013 am a commentary. We all thought he had done really well,
:19:40. > :19:46.he got the bronze which was great. Yes, I didn't realise they had
:19:47. > :19:51.filmed us watching it, we were jumping up and down because we
:19:52. > :19:57.thought he had won the title. He such a consistent person. He is the
:19:58. > :20:01.hardest worker in the gym, he knows what his job is and he goes and does
:20:02. > :20:08.it and he's a great team captain. The vibe he creates from your point
:20:09. > :20:13.of view, Dan? He will always go clean, fingers crossed! He is the
:20:14. > :20:16.dependable guy, the captain, he's probably got the most experience
:20:17. > :20:22.apart from Louis and he's someone you can look up to into the team,
:20:23. > :20:29.almost a father figure. If you have any problems, they can really look
:20:30. > :20:33.up to him and ask questions. Let's have a quick word on setting up this
:20:34. > :20:40.vault final because in the team final you only get one vault, in
:20:41. > :20:44.this one you get two. You have got to have two different types of
:20:45. > :20:50.entries and it is such a difficult final. Chris mentioned it, it is a
:20:51. > :20:53.lottery. Those double somersaults, you are talking about fractions and
:20:54. > :20:59.if you are slightly out you are not on your feet and you could be either
:21:00. > :21:04.on your face or your bottom. The vault final for me is the most
:21:05. > :21:09.dangerous, the hardest to be in, because they walk out of the gym and
:21:10. > :21:13.literally have to go without a warm up. Whereas with the other
:21:14. > :21:18.apparatus, the first skill you do warms you up. For Kristian, going
:21:19. > :21:33.six, let's have a look at the start list. You can see Nagornyy already
:21:34. > :21:49.has a gold today so he is sitting pretty. It is just wonderful to see
:21:50. > :21:53.Dragulescu in fourth position. Kristian will be going six. Let's
:21:54. > :22:03.get down to the runway and see what happens.
:22:04. > :22:07.To start, Nagornyy of Russia. He had no problem with coming straight off
:22:08. > :22:12.the podium and to the end of the vault runway. That was a fantastic
:22:13. > :22:22.vault. An absolute belter to start off this men's final. Look at that,
:22:23. > :22:31.two and a half somersaults with the half turn, spots the landing. Wow,
:22:32. > :22:44.what a start. Looks up the floor, that's how you do it. 15.466 out of
:22:45. > :22:49.a possible 16. 9.466 for execution. Here comes the world number two.
:22:50. > :22:52.Instead of that handspring entrance he will have to do something
:22:53. > :23:03.different, go backwards onto the horse. Again, a six difficulty. And
:23:04. > :23:12.he has done his favourite vault first so is always a challenge. Oh,
:23:13. > :23:19.and it is a challenge. Triple twist off, and a big hop to the side. But
:23:20. > :23:24.incredibly difficult to control that twisting vault as you come in to
:23:25. > :23:30.land. Absolutely, and I would be saying is it a triple. He's about
:23:31. > :23:36.two and three quarters round. Because he was still twisting as he
:23:37. > :23:43.hit the mat, he had no option but to go sideways. Shoulders back, not
:23:44. > :23:52.over his centre of gravity, and off. They have given him the sixth. An
:23:53. > :24:01.average of 14.916 after both vaults are added together. The European
:24:02. > :24:06.champion twice in 2014, 20 13. He has been in a world final as well.
:24:07. > :24:16.Can he really gain this European title? That's the aim here. Now this
:24:17. > :24:29.is something rather special. Big vault, it is the first twist within
:24:30. > :24:39.the double back. Really efficient, chest down, shoulders down, hands
:24:40. > :24:46.down. There you go, 14.066 for vaults number one. Keep an eye on
:24:47. > :24:55.the scoreboard to his right hand side of the runway, you will see it
:24:56. > :25:00.as he runs past. Another hugely difficult vault, different approach.
:25:01. > :25:06.Handspring into the two and a half, and he absolutely nails the
:25:07. > :25:10.landing... On his head. Not the best outing on vault today whatsoever.
:25:11. > :25:16.You can see, I think he was a little late, just lost the height. Bang on
:25:17. > :25:26.the middle, absolutely, just not enough block. He was given the 6.2,
:25:27. > :25:32.no penalties there, but he has an average of 14.033. Abliazin, just
:25:33. > :25:53.not your day-to-day. Davtyan, 23 years old now, I think
:25:54. > :26:01.he will go for the six difficulty first. Armenia have had a great
:26:02. > :26:08.finals so far. Is it going to be another one? That was beautiful
:26:09. > :26:16.vaulting. Absolutely fabulous. Held that body shape, wrapped the twist
:26:17. > :26:25.in really impressively. Yes, a gold and a silver in today's final so far
:26:26. > :26:33.for Armenia. Handspring on, two and a half twists off. Fabulous. Watch
:26:34. > :26:40.the block, hits the table, rockets high into the air. You can see the
:26:41. > :26:52.difference between that two and a half and Abliazin on the height. He
:26:53. > :27:03.can spot the flaw in the middle. One adjustment on landing. So, the --
:27:04. > :27:08.very much on target here bearing in mind Nagornyy's second vault was 14
:27:09. > :27:33.point 366. Unbelievable difficult to hear. --
:27:34. > :27:39.unbelievable difficulty here. The second vault is always the tricky
:27:40. > :27:45.one. Triple twist, not quite so well controlled but he turns on, snaps
:27:46. > :27:51.off, wraps in the triple twist. He really twists beautifully. I think
:27:52. > :27:56.that is worth more than 14.360 six. If the judges agreed, he will go
:27:57. > :28:08.into the lead. He is superb in the air. Wraps in, legs straight, maybe
:28:09. > :28:14.apart a little bit but the judges won't spot that. Slight hop back,
:28:15. > :28:25.but two very good consistent vaults. This is where I think... Davtyan
:28:26. > :28:35.goes into the lead! Can he hang on? Will he be the third gymnast from
:28:36. > :28:46.Armenia to medals today? -- to medal. Dragulescu, back from
:28:47. > :29:00.retirement. Can he get his second medal of today's finals? This is his
:29:01. > :29:09.vault to do it. On the money! That is how you do it. That was really
:29:10. > :29:20.good. You have seen Nagornyy earlier do a Dragulescu, and he has bought,
:29:21. > :29:25.I can't let him do my move. He matches the best score of the day.
:29:26. > :29:43.15.433 for vault one. So, what has Dragulescu got in the
:29:44. > :29:50.locker? He has upped the difficulty so this one is harder than the last
:29:51. > :29:55.vault. Yes, powers down the runway. Straight front, two and a half. Big
:29:56. > :30:04.step on landing but it was on his feet. Very clean, efficient vault.
:30:05. > :30:08.Look at that. He really twists very efficiently. There will be a few
:30:09. > :30:12.deductions. He was outside the centre line, landed inside the
:30:13. > :30:18.double line but that was a clean turn on. He comes aggressively low,
:30:19. > :30:23.out through the shoulders, nice straight body shape.
:30:24. > :30:38.He does step outside of both lines. It has joint lead with Davtyan.
:30:39. > :30:46.Verniaiev, qualified with the fifth highest score. Got a bronze a couple
:30:47. > :30:52.of years ago at the Euros on vault. Starting with a six difficulty.
:30:53. > :31:02.For a slight gymnast he can generate some power. Such hike, such power,
:31:03. > :31:09.that, for me is the best we have seen. So right when he lands. The
:31:10. > :31:16.height on that Dragulescu was at least a foot or even higher than the
:31:17. > :31:21.ones we have seen, they might take 0.1 on the dismount for such a
:31:22. > :31:24.small, compact gymnast, that way he transfers the block in from the
:31:25. > :31:35.table into height and look at the length of the vault, shoulders up,
:31:36. > :31:45.superb vaulting. Great scorer, but not the highest we have seen. That
:31:46. > :31:54.is the 0.1. So they cannot split the vaults.
:31:55. > :32:01.Verniaiev posted a six for his second vault as far as difficulty is
:32:02. > :32:04.concerned. I'm sure he will stick with the same plan of action here.
:32:05. > :32:18.An average of 14.9 needed. Another hugely difficult vault. The
:32:19. > :32:27.turn. The triple. That was a fabulous second vault. Very
:32:28. > :32:35.effective. Blocks high into the air, Rapson, executes the twist superbly.
:32:36. > :32:40.Verniaiev, into the lead by 0.0 eight.
:32:41. > :32:51.Kristian Thomas at the end of the vault run. He got a third in the
:32:52. > :32:59.World Championships back in 2013. Such a powerful falter. Capable of
:33:00. > :33:10.wonderful landings. Come on, Chris. Double pike. And that is what we
:33:11. > :33:15.needed. Get in there, my son. He is so efficient on this, isn't he? We
:33:16. > :33:20.have watched this vault grow in time, when he first did it he had to
:33:21. > :33:25.squeeze it round, now he blocks so efficiently, lifts up, almost able
:33:26. > :33:35.to start opening to land. Really good vaulting. And it is a massive
:33:36. > :33:43.15.5. The highest score we have seen in this vault final so far. Can he
:33:44. > :33:54.just maintain this consistency. Giving himself just the slightest
:33:55. > :33:59.offer there. And easier vault, very important to keep the form, execute
:34:00. > :34:05.as clean as possible, spot that landing. Come on, Chris. Not so easy
:34:06. > :34:11.to learn. Hands-free, double front somersault. Splits the landing,
:34:12. > :34:16.takes a step back. Let's just hope the first vault will carry that
:34:17. > :34:20.average. This is fantastic vaulting from Kristian Thomas, such a precise
:34:21. > :34:28.gymnast, other than the step that. There are no deductions on that,
:34:29. > :34:32.often the gymnasts hit with their legs already bent, he depresses the
:34:33. > :34:36.springs and that is what lifts up in the year, he leaves the platform
:34:37. > :34:40.with his legs straight and then snaps into that double somersault,
:34:41. > :34:44.because he doesn't have turned out it is lower tariff and also it is
:34:45. > :34:52.blind, doesn't get sight of the floor until very late. Just came out
:34:53. > :35:01.a fraction early. It is not enough to get up into the medals.
:35:02. > :35:09.Benjamin Gischard from Switzerland. The Swiss having such a storming
:35:10. > :35:17.Europeans in front of their home crowd. One of the youngest Swiss
:35:18. > :35:23.gymnasts in the team, 20 years old. Scurrying down the runway. Super
:35:24. > :35:30.twisting but he ran out of rotation, really. He had lots of hype but as
:35:31. > :35:34.you come off the top you have two snap and create rotation as well.
:35:35. > :35:38.Look to me like something happened on the springboard like he slipped
:35:39. > :35:43.and he went into the vault at the wrong angle and that meant he
:35:44. > :35:44.couldn't block from the top and obviously at that height, it causes
:35:45. > :36:20.a lack of rotation. Gischard's second vault. Scored well
:36:21. > :36:24.with this vault in qualification. I was going to say performed much
:36:25. > :36:31.better but just a little bit ran out of legs and had to step back and
:36:32. > :36:35.down. There you can see, just lacks a little bit of block, he really has
:36:36. > :36:43.to transfer the power into a bit more height. On the rotation, steps
:36:44. > :36:51.back. The back arm, he really needs to block a little bit higher. To
:36:52. > :37:13.land, the blind landing. If you nails both vaults, he will be
:37:14. > :37:20.in with a chance. If. He has got two six difficulties. Let's see what is
:37:21. > :37:24.first, a ruffle approach. Big block. The Dragulescu again, little bit
:37:25. > :37:31.deep on the landing, not as good as we have seen so far. He tapped a
:37:32. > :37:36.little bit early. And I think the hands possibly touched there. Feet
:37:37. > :37:41.first but I think the hands did touch. He is already talking.
:37:42. > :37:54.Creating a bit of a problem for himself.
:37:55. > :38:03.I would let him for that, he wasn't putting his hands down, it was just
:38:04. > :38:08.a load landing. They agree with me. Thank you. It wasn't an intentional
:38:09. > :38:24.hand. Second vault, needs every single
:38:25. > :38:31.10th he can muster here. Strong approach again. Got the block. Much
:38:32. > :38:38.better there, that double pike. That second vault. Little bit too much,
:38:39. > :38:46.too late. Got his hands well away from the mat. Very true. That was a
:38:47. > :38:49.brilliant second vault. Super. Just 18, give him a few more months and
:38:50. > :38:57.he will be competitive with those two vault. One of the cleanest
:38:58. > :39:02.rounds on the time, so was able to snap and block off the top as well.
:39:03. > :39:07.Seemed to land a little bit straight, it took him by surprise.
:39:08. > :39:12.Gets his shoulders run, this platform is quite springy, if you
:39:13. > :39:24.hit it right, it will lift you up. Li it is a fifth least finish for
:39:25. > :39:31.Hrimeche. Verniaiev is the new European champion. Davtyan taking
:39:32. > :39:40.silver and Dragulescu taking bronze. Was so close, nail-biting final, we
:39:41. > :39:45.love the vault, it is over so quickly but so dynamic. The exciting
:39:46. > :39:49.thing with the vault is you never know what is going to happen. There
:39:50. > :39:57.can be so many mistakes and there were a few big vault is that managed
:39:58. > :40:02.to land both. Is it too late for Kristian to be working on the
:40:03. > :40:05.difficulty on the second vault because he is a brittle bit down on
:40:06. > :40:09.the world stage. The lament the second vault is what brings him
:40:10. > :40:14.down, that is why he didn't get into the medal today. It is never too
:40:15. > :40:20.late to learn anything but you have to look at though risk of putting
:40:21. > :40:24.that extra difficulty in. With the consistency, we know he can do those
:40:25. > :40:29.two vault and at first vault, there is nobody else that does it in the
:40:30. > :40:35.world like him, it is unbelievable. It is hard to make that decision, do
:40:36. > :40:40.you go for more difficulty. Verniaiev, he really is an all-round
:40:41. > :40:43.gymnast. Interesting to see his tactics and the European
:40:44. > :40:46.Championship and what he is working on, how he is building his
:40:47. > :40:51.difficulty so when it comes to the all-round he will be a tough one to
:40:52. > :40:56.beat. Thinking about individual apparatus as well and trying to get
:40:57. > :40:59.as many as he can. The all-rounder, got a lot more in his locker and
:41:00. > :41:04.interesting to see what routines he puts out. The senior British results
:41:05. > :41:09.that we are seeing now are the culmination of years and years of
:41:10. > :41:12.hard work, all born out of a record-breaking junior programme
:41:13. > :41:16.that has become world-renowned. The juniors have been competing
:41:17. > :41:18.alongside the men out in Switzerland, let's just bring you
:41:19. > :41:25.up-to-date with what has been happening. Great Britain's star boy,
:41:26. > :41:28.Regini-Moran has been impressing everybody yet again on the
:41:29. > :41:35.individual apparatus for them they have just finished the finals, he
:41:36. > :41:40.got gold on the floor. Impressive stuff from a former world champion
:41:41. > :41:47.yourself. His style and class and the skills he can do, good enough
:41:48. > :41:54.for a senior team and since the -- age of nine. All-round competition.
:41:55. > :42:01.Also gold in the team for the juniors. A superb junior gymnast.
:42:02. > :42:12.Took gold on the parallel bars, Sobron the high bar and bronze on
:42:13. > :42:15.the pommel horse. Not bad. They are both really talented. They will be
:42:16. > :42:19.looking to move up into the senior ranks soon and on these couple of
:42:20. > :42:23.pieces both of them are doing the routines ready for senior
:42:24. > :42:31.competition. Didn't stop with the medal on the floor, silver on
:42:32. > :42:34.vault,. Also a silver on the parallel bars but the man who is in
:42:35. > :42:37.charge of making the all-important team decision for Rio is one of my
:42:38. > :42:46.old coaches. You must be a man with a big
:42:47. > :42:50.headache right now because Great Britain does have such a strong pool
:42:51. > :42:53.of talent and you go to have to make a big decision about who to take on
:42:54. > :42:59.the plane to Rio, how tough a decision will be for you? Probably
:43:00. > :43:03.going to be the toughest decision I have had to take. I thought London
:43:04. > :43:07.was bad when we changed the team from the European Championships at
:43:08. > :43:13.that time but this time there are a few other guys still in the wings
:43:14. > :43:16.and if you look at the situation and accommodations of scores, they all
:43:17. > :43:21.have an argument to say I could count here, I could count their and
:43:22. > :43:26.contribute to the team. It is by no means set in tablets of stone, the
:43:27. > :43:30.team, all of them are well aware that you have to earn your place by
:43:31. > :43:34.performance and results and from this competition onwards we still
:43:35. > :43:38.have a couple of control competitions to do before
:43:39. > :43:43.finalising. In your head, I'm not expecting you to reveal it, do you
:43:44. > :43:49.have a team in your mind? I have about three! About three different
:43:50. > :43:54.combinations of gymnasts that we could use and mix and match to make
:43:55. > :43:59.the strongest team and the focus is on the team medal, that is what we
:44:00. > :44:02.are really going for. If that works, we know that everybody who is on the
:44:03. > :44:05.team would have done their best performance in the individual
:44:06. > :44:08.results and they should look after themselves in terms of qualifying
:44:09. > :44:13.for finals. The team is the priority. All the selection will be
:44:14. > :44:21.about getting that strongest team. What a decision Eddie has to make
:44:22. > :44:32.now. Regini-Moran is eligible for the seniors, when you take his
:44:33. > :44:35.results into account, how will Gianni compare? Is there a chance
:44:36. > :44:41.for him to be selected? There is always that chance. We have seen on
:44:42. > :44:47.the vault, during this competition that he can mix it with the big
:44:48. > :44:51.guys. His scores can win medals at senior worlds, it is amazing and on
:44:52. > :44:56.the floor, seen him training senior routines and he would get up towards
:44:57. > :45:00.a seven on the senior. Those apparatus alone could make the
:45:01. > :45:07.final. That is how he does nearer the trials. There is potential for
:45:08. > :45:08.her to be considered and to think about including him in one of the
:45:09. > :45:20.three teams. Yes, the team is not set in stone.
:45:21. > :45:29.At the European Championships they are out there to say this is my
:45:30. > :45:33.case. Then you have some of the athletes who can say this is why you
:45:34. > :45:40.need to pick me. Both the boys and girls selection, I would not want to
:45:41. > :45:46.be making the team selection. We will keep on steam with the men now
:45:47. > :45:52.and have a look at the contenders. Dan, you are still in there but
:45:53. > :45:57.there's 13 names. We were talking yesterday, there is only five that
:45:58. > :46:04.can make it. We can see Max Whitlock sitting out, being protected, but we
:46:05. > :46:10.know Dan Purvis can go all round incredibly well. We have seen what
:46:11. > :46:15.Kristian is capable of, in terms of mailing landings and so on.
:46:16. > :46:23.Courtney, rings, it just goes on and on. Yes, that is what making us so
:46:24. > :46:28.strong as a nation at the moment. We are all fighting for the same team
:46:29. > :46:32.and it is making everyone better. Like Eddie said, there are three
:46:33. > :46:35.different combinations of teams who could get similar scores and it is
:46:36. > :46:40.down to who is most consistent within the trials and who he will be
:46:41. > :46:51.able to rely on. How will he put pressure on them to know how he --
:46:52. > :46:56.they will perform in Rio? It is going to be incredibly close. It is,
:46:57. > :47:02.and when you are out on that world stage, you have Japan, China and
:47:03. > :47:07.America coming into the mix as well. He will be putting them under
:47:08. > :47:11.different scenarios, putting different teams together, seeing how
:47:12. > :47:16.they perform as a team, because just as important as having that team
:47:17. > :47:20.spirit. And obviously the consistency is the key thing. If
:47:21. > :47:26.they can be consistent, the individuals will look after
:47:27. > :47:31.themselves. How confident are you the team medal in Rio? I would like
:47:32. > :47:41.to say because I seem to have a habit of jinxing things! Just forget
:47:42. > :47:45.I even mentioned it! A reminder to Eddie that the clock is ticking now,
:47:46. > :47:59.and something to get you all excited.
:48:00. > :48:09.Jessica Ennis-Hill is back on top of the world! Nicola Adams has just
:48:10. > :48:21.made history! Laura Trott, world champion!
:48:22. > :48:24.Cannot wait! Anyway, P bars now and this is the only final without
:48:25. > :48:28.British interests, which is surprising when you think that Nile
:48:29. > :48:35.Wilson got the second highest the bars score in yesterday's
:48:36. > :48:38.competition, just 0.2 behind the current world champion. Anyway,
:48:39. > :48:56.let's have a look at who has made it.
:48:57. > :49:08.Verniaiev will be the man to beat. Nagornyy, such a wonderful addition
:49:09. > :49:18.to the senior Russian team, up from the juniors, 19 years old. His first
:49:19. > :49:28.on the youth Olympics on this piece of apparatus. Lovely front
:49:29. > :49:38.somersault, immediate pirouette. Very comfortable on the one rail.
:49:39. > :49:46.Just had to fight a fraction there, and there is that little shuffle of
:49:47. > :49:54.the hands. Good, confident work on to the one rail. Out with the Healy
:49:55. > :50:00.turn, then the second Healy turn, but that was a bit short. With the
:50:01. > :50:06.extra pirouette, just overcooked. This is the first time we have seen
:50:07. > :50:12.this young man falter at all. He didn't set up very well before and
:50:13. > :50:18.he had to take a step. He knew it was pointless trying to fight, and
:50:19. > :50:28.off he went. He has really got a strong core. Super double front half
:50:29. > :50:33.turn, very good dismount. A surprise, but at least we know he is
:50:34. > :50:40.human! The first part of the routine was exceptional, and it was just
:50:41. > :50:46.this bit where he lost momentum on the first one, which on nerve him.
:50:47. > :50:49.His feet were out of line, then he was off the bars. 14.1, that will
:50:50. > :51:10.do, considering. Oleg Verniaiev, looking to retain
:51:11. > :51:25.his European title. Style and grace personified. Making sure everything
:51:26. > :51:33.is absolutely right, he is set. Parallel bars masterclass. Smooth
:51:34. > :51:47.into the handstand. Blocked out with straight arms, 21 bar. Hard fight
:51:48. > :51:53.there. Nice and high, the amplitude, the flight there. Now look at that.
:51:54. > :52:12.Healy turn, reverse pirouette. High in the front foot prize, nails
:52:13. > :52:16.the landing. There was areas for the judges to deduct from, but surely,
:52:17. > :52:23.surely the quality will win out in the end. Yes, he missed one of his
:52:24. > :52:27.Healy moves from the one bar as well so his start score will be two
:52:28. > :52:38.tenths down, which will make a big difference in the final.
:52:39. > :52:55.We will have to see what the score comes out as. It is the highest
:52:56. > :53:17.score so far, 15.700 and 16. Will it be enough?
:53:18. > :53:32.What can he do here in the men's final on the parallel bars? There is
:53:33. > :53:34.a big chance of a medal. Start straight into his under par work.
:53:35. > :53:56.Held that just long enough. -- under bar work. Drop chute into
:53:57. > :54:15.the front, semi-swing to handstand. Nice pirouette. Swing to handstand
:54:16. > :54:26.on the one bar. Huge dismount to stick. He has got to go into the
:54:27. > :54:32.lead with that. It had everything, such original work. Even to the
:54:33. > :54:37.final dismount. I'm thinking, if he takes a step here, it might just
:54:38. > :54:41.cost him but he absolutely glued that landing. His team-mates are
:54:42. > :54:49.absolutely made up for him. Just watch on the replay the quality.
:54:50. > :54:54.Locked out in the handstand, there you go, transfers into the
:54:55. > :55:00.handstand, pirouette. Look from another angle. Directly over the
:55:01. > :55:15.rail. But he hit 16 with this? Look at this dismount. Double front, half
:55:16. > :55:18.turn... It is over 16! David Belyavskiy scores 16.0 33. Surely
:55:19. > :55:44.unbeatable? It all calms down for Marcel Nguyen.
:55:45. > :55:49.Former European double pommel horse parallel bars champion. And some
:55:50. > :56:03.lovely original work. Super double somersault backwards. So flighty.
:56:04. > :56:10.But that he didn't hold long enough. And everybody could see the legs
:56:11. > :56:18.apart on the turn. But as for the speed, the flight and body shape,
:56:19. > :56:24.absolutely fantastic. And what that dismount! Double back with full
:56:25. > :56:30.twist. Really sensational dismount. That was very nice parallel bar
:56:31. > :56:37.work. I think he gave a few too many hearts away to win but it was really
:56:38. > :56:50.classy work. Probably the worst part of the routine for me was the long
:56:51. > :57:02.swing. This is what they are looking for, the virtuosity. Not just doing
:57:03. > :57:25.skills, but doing them with ease. 15.560 six. Nguyen inferred at the
:57:26. > :57:42.moment. -- in third at the moment. This is Pablo Braegger. Unusual
:57:43. > :57:57.start on the end, facing outwards. Slight step. Nice combination.
:57:58. > :58:08.Really high tip out there, there will be no deductions on that. Healy
:58:09. > :58:13.turn. Lovely handstand shape. Drop chute to the front Siamese. Missed
:58:14. > :58:24.the swing to handstand, but covered it up well. Just a little bit off on
:58:25. > :58:29.the handstand on one rail. Looks like he was fighting the whole way
:58:30. > :58:36.through that routine there, then just run out of steam and came off.
:58:37. > :58:47.He will be wanting just to finish this off nice and clean now. There
:58:48. > :58:59.is the double pike. Such a shame for the guy. Yes, a lack of experience
:59:00. > :59:04.now from this young team, starting to falter a little bit. This is
:59:05. > :59:08.where the mistakes creep in, but they have had a superb
:59:09. > :59:13.Championships, they should be immensely proud. He was slow getting
:59:14. > :59:23.his shoulders up and over. The centre of gravity has to be forwards
:59:24. > :59:33.to get up into handstand. Braegger's score is 13.933, he is in seventh.
:59:34. > :59:39.Will this last gymnast push last year's gold medallist down into
:59:40. > :59:55.third? He got the silver of last year's
:59:56. > :00:04.Europeans. All this possible. Just a little bit edgy. These to be
:00:05. > :00:12.settled. Works out. Think that was probably an escape route. Good
:00:13. > :00:17.swinging, up to handstand, into the double somersault. Just all looks a
:00:18. > :00:26.tiny bit rushed, there is a distinction between being fluent and
:00:27. > :00:35.rushed. Nicely up into handstand. Settles a bit. The full the Healy
:00:36. > :00:39.turn. Pushes back into the double pike, very nice dismount but that
:00:40. > :00:53.was a bit of a rush, it all looked a little bit out of control. Going to
:00:54. > :00:54.challenge Nguyen for bronze. Really good understanding of how the bars
:00:55. > :01:04.work. It is a score of 15, Berbecar
:01:05. > :01:12.finishes fourth Nguyen takes the bronze. But this final was all about
:01:13. > :01:19.this man, David Belyavskiy takes gold for Russia. Confirmation that
:01:20. > :01:27.David Belyavskiy with an enormous score. Takes the gold. Verniaiev
:01:28. > :01:30.take silver and Nguyen back on the European podium with a bronze.
:01:31. > :01:35.Certainly one of the gymnasts of the Championships. More sporting
:01:36. > :01:43.highlights coming your way on BBC Two. The first is Rugby union. Seven
:01:44. > :01:48.o'clock tonight and if you like your Olympics bought, fast and furious,
:01:49. > :02:11.then look no further than the BMX track.
:02:12. > :02:17.You think that is pretty full on, no helmets involved in the next piece
:02:18. > :02:22.of apparatus, getting warmed up for the last final of the day, the crowd
:02:23. > :02:25.pleasing, nail-biting high bar, one of the many pieces that during the
:02:26. > :02:37.Commonwealth Games launched Nile Wilson high onto the senior stage.
:02:38. > :02:40.What a moment! Was never in doubt. Absolute perfection.
:02:41. > :02:49.I got chucked in the deep end, 18 years old, going from doing this to
:02:50. > :02:52.the junior European competition to two months later competing in the
:02:53. > :02:56.Commonwealth Games and that was a massive step and I managed to handle
:02:57. > :03:00.it well and took a lot of confidence out of it. I performed really well.
:03:01. > :03:05.I believe there could challenge on the senior circuit, so that moved
:03:06. > :03:08.forward and made the team and had the final of my first World
:03:09. > :03:13.Championships at 18, so it fills me with confidence and I am capable of
:03:14. > :03:17.performing. It excites me and I loved every minute of it and it is
:03:18. > :03:25.what I focus on. Tell us about her that experience. A lot of experience
:03:26. > :03:29.coming to the world champion, this is my first Europeans and each time
:03:30. > :03:35.you build and you learn being on this bigger stage, there is no
:03:36. > :03:41.feeling like it and you get a buzz, the nerves, difficult to explain. To
:03:42. > :03:44.put in the performances I have been doing at the World Championships and
:03:45. > :03:49.things like that, hopefully I have a bright future in the sport, I am
:03:50. > :03:55.only 20, a lot of years left and just really excited to move forward.
:03:56. > :03:59.He is not here this week, but is he somebody you aspire to, Max, one of
:04:00. > :04:06.the very best in the world. Definitely. All the GB team, we look
:04:07. > :04:11.to Max, Louis, Kristian, what they have achieved and they have pushed
:04:12. > :04:15.us forward and kept us fighting towards them and their achievements
:04:16. > :04:18.are incredible and to get the opportunity to train with them on a
:04:19. > :04:25.regular basis, for me as a youngster was incredible and we have always
:04:26. > :04:28.wanted to be there and now I have your competing with them as
:04:29. > :04:33.team-mates and brothers, it is awesome. Loving and relishing in
:04:34. > :04:38.every single second of it. That kind of appreciation and excitement has
:04:39. > :04:43.become a trademark. Some shots of him yesterday, look at the release.
:04:44. > :04:48.The passion that he has got. He is such a player as far as far as the
:04:49. > :04:52.six pieces of apparatus are concerned in the team, completed
:04:53. > :04:56.every piece yesterday. A really good all-round gymnast and he has a lot
:04:57. > :05:02.of pieces that can count in the team environment and it showed yesterday
:05:03. > :05:09.how important he is. Is he in your three teams? I don't think he has
:05:10. > :05:14.done himself any harm! Not nailing your colours to the mast. Let's talk
:05:15. > :05:21.about parallel bar -- high bar, the blue riband event. As far as
:05:22. > :05:25.routines are concerned, to give our viewers an idea of what makes the
:05:26. > :05:29.perfect high bar routine. Dynamic, fluid, good accommodation between
:05:30. > :05:37.release and catch moves and turns on the bar and you have to stick the
:05:38. > :05:40.dismount connection is the key. To build up the difficulty you will see
:05:41. > :05:49.a lot of turning elements going into the lease and catches but with his,
:05:50. > :05:53.he has five big release and catches and coming from bars myself, I
:05:54. > :05:57.watched the boys, I took a lot of my skills that are used to work in my
:05:58. > :06:03.routine, I stole from them and some of the lads's coaches helped teach
:06:04. > :06:08.me my skills. The key to the good release and catch? Apart from
:06:09. > :06:13.grabbing hold of the bar, how do you spot it? You have to get enough
:06:14. > :06:17.fight over the Barca you have the time to spot it and try not to catch
:06:18. > :06:21.Timm Klose or too far away when you miss it. The top eight gymnasts
:06:22. > :06:38.after qualifying. Cubicle, hang onto your hats and
:06:39. > :06:42.call everybody round the TV, it time for high bar.
:06:43. > :06:52.A chance for Great Britain's Kristian Thomas to get himself a
:06:53. > :06:57.European medal. He got a third in the European Championships on high
:06:58. > :07:05.bar in 2014 but he is joint highest qualifier. Told gymnast, works this
:07:06. > :07:13.piece of apparatus well. Great flight. There is an catching it with
:07:14. > :07:23.a full-time, very difficult work. Needs to settle in. The in bar
:07:24. > :07:29.element which is required. Working well.
:07:30. > :07:37.Squat half, very good, here is the catch. Straight. Straight on. Swing
:07:38. > :07:45.out. Catch it, half term. Come on Kristian, keep this up. Needs to
:07:46. > :07:55.nail the dismount. Winds up. Kicks high into the stadium. My word! Get
:07:56. > :08:04.in, Kristian. Boom. He is in medal contention. This is the full-time,
:08:05. > :08:09.full turn above the bar and then you have to read catch, yesterday he
:08:10. > :08:17.came in close, today, much stronger. Really good work. Catching it with a
:08:18. > :08:22.half-time and he didn't falter, on dead straight arms and went straight
:08:23. > :08:28.up into handstand. Super height and shape, fantastic landing. I don't
:08:29. > :08:36.think he could have done it much better than that to be fair. No I
:08:37. > :08:43.think it is a exactly what is needed, should be in contention with
:08:44. > :08:49.a medal. We are all very excited. Another six gymnasts to go in this
:08:50. > :08:55.final, wrapping it up with Nile Wilson, who is another very good
:08:56. > :09:02.chance, he has got the difficulty. 15 scored for Kristian Thomas. Beat
:09:03. > :09:10.that if you can, the rest of Europe. This don't apparatus final today,
:09:11. > :09:18.Baumann, the hardest working Swiss gymnast ever. LAUGHTER
:09:19. > :09:26.He's got a 6.5 difficulty in the locker. He is able to challenge.
:09:27. > :09:31.Nice and flighty. Little hesitation, snaps the legs together to make the
:09:32. > :09:40.full pirouette. Here comes the big release. Full-time. Very nicely
:09:41. > :09:46.done. -- full turn. One 1/2-time, little but wild with the legs. Bit
:09:47. > :09:52.short on that squat dislocation, the half term was a bit off handstand.
:09:53. > :10:04.One and a half pirouette. -- the half turn. Th so, clearly through so
:10:05. > :10:11.far, kicks up high. Two twists and two somersaults, just a hot, tiny
:10:12. > :10:17.little error. He has had a very good try indeed. Looking for high 14s,
:10:18. > :10:22.waves to the crowd and thanks them for their support. What the European
:10:23. > :10:28.Championships he has had. Can't do anything more now. Really good on
:10:29. > :10:33.some of those elements, lots of high above the bar. There you can see,
:10:34. > :10:38.that is with full twist. Winds up. Hi. Double twist and doublespeak.
:10:39. > :10:52.That will be three tenths. Time will tell if that is enough.
:10:53. > :11:02.Looking for high 14s four medals in this final. Verniaiev, silver on
:11:03. > :11:05.parallel bars, the last bees of apparatus, been a very busy gymnast
:11:06. > :11:18.today in the individual apparatus finals. Qualified fifth. Eau Claire
:11:19. > :11:22.Market double of high 14 roll. -- qualified.
:11:23. > :11:37.Catches half-time, catches well, shoulders extended in the swing out.
:11:38. > :11:48.The squat half. A more difficult routine that we have seen. And he is
:11:49. > :11:53.off. Went into the half turn didn't get his hand over the top,
:11:54. > :11:59.completely off the bar, the second fall we have seen in this high bar
:12:00. > :12:05.final. He is showing us that he has a lot more in the locker if he wants
:12:06. > :12:08.to use it. Obviously in all-round competitions he goes for feeling
:12:09. > :12:15.secure but there is a lot more to be seen from this young man. He has to
:12:16. > :12:18.put these routines together if he wants to have a stab in this Olympic
:12:19. > :12:28.title. Really impressed with this routine. Obviously without the fall.
:12:29. > :12:36.Needs to finish off solidly. He has met all bookworms. The in bar. In
:12:37. > :12:47.the straddle position. There is the full turn into the inverted grip.
:12:48. > :12:52.Just needs the this man. Big clock jump on landing. Triple twist. Huge
:12:53. > :12:57.dismount and you can see his plan for the all-round title as far as
:12:58. > :13:01.the Olympics is concerned. He has got a lot to work on over the last
:13:02. > :13:06.few months, but I tell you what, look out. He is not unhappy about
:13:07. > :13:09.that, he wanted to go out and try that routine, that was obvious.
:13:10. > :13:26.Didn't get the down bar, did he? Belyavskiy, just took gold on
:13:27. > :13:32.parallel bars. The chance here to get a medal on the high bar. He is
:13:33. > :13:38.man of the moment, let's see what he does here, lovely one arm swing.
:13:39. > :13:50.Clean squat dislocation with half turn. Big catch. And with the half
:13:51. > :14:00.turn, he swings beautifully, very light and fit. Full pirouette. But
:14:01. > :14:08.you know there is a giant between each theme, links the two skills.
:14:09. > :14:16.The secret is to put in the difficulty move after move. His
:14:17. > :14:22.signature work. Very nicely done. And then the big dismount. Straight
:14:23. > :14:29.with full twist, I really beautifully executed routine. He had
:14:30. > :14:35.difficulty of 60 qualification and the judges on high bar are so harsh,
:14:36. > :14:43.will be interesting to see, so far the execution scores have all been
:14:44. > :14:48.in the sevens. It is so rare for us to see an execution score of eight
:14:49. > :14:51.and nine, be very interesting to see if he achieves it because his work
:14:52. > :15:07.is so clean. What about this dismount? Yes, he just floats it.
:15:08. > :15:17.Goodness me, close as you like. Great Britain leading this men's
:15:18. > :15:23.final. Pablo Braegger, the second of the Swiss gymnasts in this final.
:15:24. > :15:34.Just two gymnasts allowed per country. They have been using their
:15:35. > :15:45.quota beautifully. This is his second ever European high bar final.
:15:46. > :15:53.Tall gymnast. Straight down to work. Winding up for something big. Great
:15:54. > :16:00.extension on the catch. Straight catch, half turn. Cleanly out. Goes
:16:01. > :16:08.the wrong way out to save it, that will be costly. Into another
:16:09. > :16:22.straight catch here. Hop, one and a half. Squat full, connects...
:16:23. > :16:31.Just a slight error at the start, can he hang onto the dismount?
:16:32. > :16:43.Little adjustment on landing. Is it good? -- good enough? He had to
:16:44. > :16:50.readjust, quick thinking to go back, but that is a big bonus. There is
:16:51. > :16:54.some real potential there. He is in third at the moment, 14.760 six. 6.9
:16:55. > :17:11.difficulty. Maras got a third at last years
:17:12. > :17:21.Europeans high bars. This will all come to execution.
:17:22. > :17:25.11 world and European medals in the locker. Can be a little
:17:26. > :17:32.inconsistent. Let's see how he gets on today. Winds up the forward long
:17:33. > :17:34.swing, this is original work. There is the double front half turn to
:17:35. > :18:00.catch, known as the pagan. Good extension on the catch. A
:18:01. > :18:11.little bit close. That has just cost him. Didn't get his hand on the
:18:12. > :18:19.toggle over the bar. And yet again, inconsistency in this final. Very
:18:20. > :18:23.long routine, Craig, I felt it was going on and on and he was just
:18:24. > :18:32.collecting more deductions as he went. The first eight moves were
:18:33. > :18:38.fantastic. 30 seconds to get back on the bar. A bit pointless now. He
:18:39. > :18:46.will be out of the medals. He has got to finish off. Nice one arm
:18:47. > :18:54.work. Such original high bar work. Just the dismount to go, winds up.
:18:55. > :19:00.Kicks high into the dismount, slight adjustment on landing. Not to be
:19:01. > :19:05.today. Not to be for Greece but a great day for Great Britain because
:19:06. > :19:11.that confirms that we definitely have a high bar European champion
:19:12. > :19:21.for the first time ever. Really? First-ever! The question is, is it
:19:22. > :19:33.going to be Kristian or Nile? This is a story of what could have been
:19:34. > :19:38.for Maras. For Great Britain, Nile Wilson, Commonwealth champion. Come
:19:39. > :19:44.on, he says to himself. Can he beat his team-mate, Kristian Thomas, with
:19:45. > :19:52.a score of 15? Well, can he control the adrenaline? That is the
:19:53. > :19:58.question. Always determined. Watch the wind-up, full twist in the
:19:59. > :20:05.straight, fantastic catch. Got another one coming. In the tuck
:20:06. > :20:12.position, cleanly there. Now he needs to keep calm. Lovely one and a
:20:13. > :20:26.half turn, shuffle along the bar. Squat dislocation, lovely. With the
:20:27. > :20:37.half turn. Big straight catching. Full of difficulty, lovely style,
:20:38. > :20:47.another struggle -- straddle catch. Pirouette. Concentrate... Great
:20:48. > :20:54.landing! Well done, Nile Wilson. It is very good. Is it good enough to
:20:55. > :20:58.go over 15? Whatever it is, Great Britain have two medals and a
:20:59. > :21:07.definite European champion on high bar for the first time ever. What a
:21:08. > :21:15.fantastic performance, that is so difficult work. There you can see
:21:16. > :21:20.high into the straight catch, catching all the releases at full
:21:21. > :21:24.extension. That gives the judges nothing to take off. Then wraps in,
:21:25. > :21:31.double twisting double straight, spot the flaw, little adjustment on
:21:32. > :21:40.landing. That is going to be close. Bearing in mind Belyavskiy is just
:21:41. > :21:49.0.9 behind Kristian Thomas. Look at the score! 15.3, Nile Wilson is
:21:50. > :21:56.European high bar champion and he makes history. It is the first time
:21:57. > :22:01.ever. Look at that, what a moment from Nile Wilson, what a moment for
:22:02. > :22:09.Great Britain. Get your name in the history books, young man. Absolutely
:22:10. > :22:16.superb. One and two on the European high bar stage. There is a
:22:17. > :22:22.leaderboard that will go down in history. Nile Wilson for Great
:22:23. > :22:27.Britain takes gold, the first ever British European high bar champion.
:22:28. > :22:35.Kristian Thomas takes silver, Belyavskiy bronze. Here they are,
:22:36. > :22:43.receiving the medals. Kristian Thomas's best high bar achievement,
:22:44. > :22:56.but Nile Wilson makes history and gets his name in the record books.
:22:57. > :23:42.I cannot imagine there is a much better way to end your first
:23:43. > :23:47.European World Championships as a senior? Definitely, you train your
:23:48. > :23:52.whole life for moments like that and I loved every second of it. All the
:23:53. > :23:56.better to do work alongside the team captain, and my brother who is
:23:57. > :24:00.coming on to the senior circuit. I just want to thank everyone back at
:24:01. > :24:06.home, the support they give is incredible. Looking forward to Rio,
:24:07. > :24:11.let's do this. You had watched Kristian putting a big score, then
:24:12. > :24:16.another gymnast starter, what was in your mind? I was just focusing on my
:24:17. > :24:22.routine, I have hit it twice very well this week so I was focusing on
:24:23. > :24:26.my potential. I knew I could do it. Trying to get about what other
:24:27. > :24:33.people are doing and focus on myself. It did feel wobbly, I felt
:24:34. > :24:38.the nerves, but I got through it and posted the score. I could not be
:24:39. > :24:45.happier. Kristian, silver for you, you lead all the way. Was part of
:24:46. > :24:49.you thinking, I hope he wobbles a little bit here. No, you want to be
:24:50. > :24:54.competing against the best and you want to be able to beat the best,
:24:55. > :25:01.and Nile did the cleaner routine today. Full credit, he stepped up,
:25:02. > :25:06.last man. He has seen some scores in front of him so full credit to step
:25:07. > :25:17.up and do the job the way he did. I suppose it is a good end to what has
:25:18. > :25:21.been frustrating. Yes, it was frustrating but I had confidence I
:25:22. > :25:28.could deliver my routines, and it is another take in doing that. This
:25:29. > :25:32.week I have shown consistency, so for me I cannot be happier and I
:25:33. > :25:37.have got to take the positives from that. Obviously then to crown it off
:25:38. > :25:42.with the silver medal, next to Nile on the podium, I couldn't have asked
:25:43. > :25:46.for a better finish. This man next to you already has all of the
:25:47. > :25:53.medals, there is only one you are missing now, how good would it be to
:25:54. > :25:57.get it and be selected for Rio of course? Incredible, and that is the
:25:58. > :26:02.plan. Let's do this! He hasn't done his
:26:03. > :26:10.chances any harm at all, superb. That will be in the selectors'
:26:11. > :26:18.minds, how well he did. He stepped up and performed admirably. He did,
:26:19. > :26:22.but just to see his face, listening to Kristian saying the things he was
:26:23. > :26:27.about him, he seemed so happy and content. He said he was feeling the
:26:28. > :26:32.nerves, so knowing he can control that on the big stage was a big
:26:33. > :26:37.lesson for him. Definitely, when you go from performing in the team
:26:38. > :26:41.situation to having to step up by yourself, I think it will have
:26:42. > :26:45.calmed his nerves having Kristian alongside him. It is hard when you
:26:46. > :26:50.have people falling alongside you. He knew he had one of the biggest
:26:51. > :26:55.start values out there and could take the title. The fact he
:26:56. > :26:58.controlled his nerves is good ahead of Rio.
:26:59. > :27:04.Talking of looking ahead, we will be back next weekend with the women's
:27:05. > :27:16.team and the individual European Championships.
:27:17. > :27:23.Just looking ahead to that, how does the women's team compared? They have
:27:24. > :27:30.definitely got a lot of medal chances. LA this year has had a
:27:31. > :27:40.fantastic start to the year, in the World Cup she won all four
:27:41. > :27:44.apparatus. -- Ellie. They are all pushing each other. With one week to
:27:45. > :27:51.go, what will be the final preparations? They have flown out
:27:52. > :27:55.there so they will be getting used to the environment, and podium
:27:56. > :28:00.training will start on Monday, then the competition will go ahead on
:28:01. > :28:06.Wednesday. There is a tough act to follow. We have had a great weekend,
:28:07. > :28:12.and we do really hope you can join us then. Thank you for your company,
:28:13. > :28:17.but listen, the British men and selectors now just have 69 days
:28:18. > :28:21.until the gymnastics at the start of the Olympics. It is not long but it
:28:22. > :28:29.seems our men are very much on target to peak. From our team, cheer
:28:30. > :28:38.Rio. Commentary : That was a slip from
:28:39. > :29:07.the horse. Get there, Kristian, boom! Nile
