:00:47. > :00:52.Helen Lander welcome to continued coverage of the European gymnastics
:00:53. > :00:58.Championships from Bern, Switzerland, where last week, the
:00:59. > :01:02.men took to the arena and there were plenty of thrills, spills, lows and
:01:03. > :01:10.highs for great written. Louis 's chances of retaining his European
:01:11. > :01:17.title spun away on the pommel horse, but Nile Burton beat his team
:01:18. > :01:22.captain Kristian Thomas into second. So far, but now 's medals at the
:01:23. > :01:26.championships this year. As the team were up on the podium yet again,
:01:27. > :01:30.they achieved another second placed finish in the European team final.
:01:31. > :01:34.That brings us onto the gymnastics this weekend as the British women's
:01:35. > :01:37.team are hoping this will be their greatest ever European team
:01:38. > :01:47.achievement, and their performance at the performance -- last year 's
:01:48. > :01:55.World Championships is anything to go by, we are in for good times.
:01:56. > :02:02.That walk in was absolutely amazing, knowing that they were all behind
:02:03. > :02:15.us. You fight for absolutely everything. They just said, don't
:02:16. > :02:24.worry about it. Never say never. I knew the mindset that I had to be
:02:25. > :02:35.in, that I had to focus more. The crowd was so loud, no one could hear
:02:36. > :02:42.themselves think. That was the best that I have ever completed. It was
:02:43. > :02:47.pretty special. When we got out of Russia, I couldn't believe it, when
:02:48. > :02:53.the score came in, I was completely shocked. We just kept looking up at
:02:54. > :02:58.the scoreboard. That is a bronze medal for Great Britain. It is
:02:59. > :03:05.absolutely fantastic to get the team bronze medal, and we made history. I
:03:06. > :03:08.have got tingles! This afternoon we will see plenty of European
:03:09. > :03:14.champions crowned with highlights of the team final and the apparatus
:03:15. > :03:19.finals. Joining me our our pundit champions, Beth Tweddle and Daniel
:03:20. > :03:24.Keatings. Welcome to you both. Let's focus on the team to start with,
:03:25. > :03:27.there are quite can members in Switzerland of that historic bronze
:03:28. > :03:32.medal winning team. Amy Tinkler is studying for GCSEs, we know that.
:03:33. > :03:38.She got in contact to say how much she is enjoying it. Get revising!
:03:39. > :03:41.This gives chance for Gabby Judd to enter the team. How do you think the
:03:42. > :03:48.shape of it is looking at the moment? They spent much time working
:03:49. > :03:51.together as a team is, so they are like sisters, but having those
:03:52. > :03:56.members from the World Championships will help going into this
:03:57. > :03:59.Championships. They are used to this pressure, this format, it is a
:04:00. > :04:02.different ball game and they know that every single routine has to
:04:03. > :04:09.count, and one little mistake can mean everything. Can this be the
:04:10. > :04:14.year that the British women start to overtake the men? Since 2008, it has
:04:15. > :04:20.been, since the women have been on top, so to speak. It would be nice
:04:21. > :04:27.as a nation to be doing well, both sides, men and women. That is all
:04:28. > :04:31.you can hope for as a Team GB supporter to be proud of both the
:04:32. > :04:37.men's and women's team is. So, in general no! The job of selecting an
:04:38. > :04:43.Olympic team comes down to Beth 's old coach, Amanda Reding. Together
:04:44. > :04:50.they have become the trailblazers for the success that we are seeing
:04:51. > :04:56.today. Here is Amanda talking to David about her new focus, the
:04:57. > :04:59.Olympic team final. Going through qualifying, how pleased are you with
:05:00. > :05:03.how that went? Obviously very pleased. Enough to make the team
:05:04. > :05:09.final, that is the main job and trying to get as many girls into the
:05:10. > :05:14.final so that they can get the experience for the challenge in Rio.
:05:15. > :05:16.Because of the strength in depth in British gymnastics right now,
:05:17. > :05:22.picking the team must be difficult. This will be my first Olympics doing
:05:23. > :05:26.this as a national coach. I have done it for the European Andy will
:05:27. > :05:31.Championships, and obviously it will be difficult because it can only be
:05:32. > :05:35.five gymnast so there will be some disappointed gymnasts out there. Do
:05:36. > :05:38.you have the team in your mind or is there still room for people to
:05:39. > :05:43.impress you? There is room up until the last minute. We will be getting
:05:44. > :05:50.together and discussing what is best for the team, and that is what it is
:05:51. > :05:53.all about. You have Gabby coming back but also the likes of Becky who
:05:54. > :05:58.has been there and done it at two Olympics already. You have young
:05:59. > :06:02.girls like Ellie Downie and Amy Tinkler. There is quite a mixture of
:06:03. > :06:08.youth and experience. It is. That is what keeps it bubbling. You've got
:06:09. > :06:12.some that have been to the Olympics and others that haven't. They have
:06:13. > :06:18.got to treat it as exactly the same, just another competition. Doing well
:06:19. > :06:22.leased a level of expectation. What do you think we can achieve in Rio?
:06:23. > :06:26.When they come to the competition here, the first one since Glasgow,
:06:27. > :06:36.they have walked in with the that you last and coaches are going, it
:06:37. > :06:40.is the Brits, and they want to watch the Brits. That is a good feeling.
:06:41. > :06:46.When you are thinking it is your job to select that team that is going to
:06:47. > :06:49.go to Rio and given the opportunity, a lot comes with that, especially
:06:50. > :06:54.when you feast your eyes on the squad that you have got to choose
:06:55. > :06:58.from. It will be a difficult decision. There are five girls out
:06:59. > :07:05.there but some at home who are concentrating on exams. And lots of
:07:06. > :07:10.others, Kelly was part of the team last year. I would not want to be in
:07:11. > :07:15.Amanda 's shoes. She said in that video, it is going to be a hard
:07:16. > :07:19.decision. It is hard, when you compare to the men, when you have
:07:20. > :07:24.only got four pieces of apparatus, your options are reduced even more.
:07:25. > :07:30.The hard thing is, there's lots of gymnasts who could make two or three
:07:31. > :07:34.the front teams and makes schools as a team total, so it will down to who
:07:35. > :07:39.is more consistent in the trials and can be trusted in an Olympic Games.
:07:40. > :07:42.It is not just Britain that are trying to put their team together,
:07:43. > :07:47.it is happening across the world, and across Europe. And it was key
:07:48. > :07:53.for teams to get into this team final that we are going to see. We
:07:54. > :07:57.can see the top eight teams that are qualified, Britain top qualifiers,
:07:58. > :08:00.head of Russia. Switzerland in front of a home crowd, great achievement
:08:01. > :08:05.for them. Can they equal what they ended last week and get the bronze?
:08:06. > :08:11.Rumania fourth, Italy, France, all in with a real shock. The strength
:08:12. > :08:16.of the field this year has improved from two years ago. So to see
:08:17. > :08:22.Britain on top after qualification, it put them in good stead. They were
:08:23. > :08:29.2.5 marks a of Russia on floor, which was massive. Top qualifiers
:08:30. > :08:33.not just on floor, but also on vault so they will be in the same group as
:08:34. > :08:36.Russia so you can see how the team is way up against each other. And
:08:37. > :08:39.that Russian team you have got Olympic world champions and also,
:08:40. > :08:45.youth coming through. We saw how those younger gymnasts from the
:08:46. > :08:50.junior ranks can add a different flavour and spice up the senior
:08:51. > :08:53.team. Yes, for any nation to improve, the younger gymnasts coming
:08:54. > :08:57.through have to be pushing the senior gymnasts out. There has been
:08:58. > :09:02.lots of energy coming through from the junior ranks. And that is what
:09:03. > :09:07.is lifting the teams. We are adjusting to give you an idea of how
:09:08. > :09:10.the team competition works. Every country selects three gymnasts from
:09:11. > :09:14.their team of five to perform on each of the four pieces of
:09:15. > :09:19.apparatus. Every school counts, so if you fall, you cost the team
:09:20. > :09:30.dearly. Here are the highlights. -- every school counts.
:09:31. > :09:44.The second of the Russian Walters. Going for a difficulty of 5.8. A
:09:45. > :09:51.little bit scrappy, onto the table, loss of form in the legs.
:09:52. > :10:01.Landing is key. Just one more gymnasts from Russia to vault. Just
:10:02. > :10:10.as she left the top, you could see the need bend. It is more obvious in
:10:11. > :10:11.slow motion but the judges will have noticed good grounding and
:10:12. > :10:26.directionality. The third Russian vaulter. Strong
:10:27. > :10:39.and powerful, good block off the top. That gets Russia 14.9 16. Good
:10:40. > :10:43.style. Tiny bit off, direction. How will Great Britain do with their
:10:44. > :10:49.first piece of apparatus? The first gymnasts up is Ruby Harrold, the
:10:50. > :10:53.birthday girl. Going for a 5.8 at the godly. Hoping to get rate
:10:54. > :11:02.written off to a great start. -- difficulty. Hoping to get Great
:11:03. > :11:08.Britain off to a great start. What a start for Great Britain. Put in all
:11:09. > :11:16.of the required twists and got around. Great start from Ruby.
:11:17. > :11:28.Beautiful double twist. Super direction. Right on that line. Ruby
:11:29. > :11:33.scores 14.7 66. Claudia Fragapane, the Commonwealth champion on board.
:11:34. > :11:39.She is in the bought final as well and also has a difficulty of 5.8.
:11:40. > :11:48.The 18-year-old, second up for Great Britain. Very powerful, wraps into
:11:49. > :11:53.the double twist. Not a bad vault, slight adjustment on landing. Strong
:11:54. > :12:01.Landing, lists very high, very good length. Just that hop backwards.
:12:02. > :12:11.Little directional deductions, but that was super vaulting. Great
:12:12. > :12:17.Britain 's Ellie Downie needs something in the region of 15. Such
:12:18. > :12:27.a powerful gymnast. Into the double twist, superb vaulting, without a
:12:28. > :12:33.doubt. Just what we need. There is confirmation that Russia lead Great
:12:34. > :12:42.Britain by just over 0.1. France in third, Switzerland fourth at the
:12:43. > :12:46.moment. There was a lot of expectation on the home team to
:12:47. > :12:53.medal, but that fall from Julia Steyn Gruber halfway round gave the
:12:54. > :13:01.Swiss and enormous amount to do. The current world and European champion,
:13:02. > :13:08.from Russia. And Russia are superb on the bars. A full term, Doohan
:13:09. > :13:20.stand, the legs locked together. Immediately up. Linked perfectly
:13:21. > :13:28.together, lovely high somersault. So confident. Lovely, straight arms
:13:29. > :13:32.through her swing. The full pirouette, straight into the full
:13:33. > :13:36.twist and double back. There wasn't much to did up on that routine at
:13:37. > :13:40.all. That was absolutely beautiful. It could be the piece of apparatus
:13:41. > :13:46.where they put some ground between themselves and Great Britain. That
:13:47. > :14:05.is an enormous score for Russia. She qualified with the highest
:14:06. > :14:13.score. She has a 6.5 difficulty. Here goes, the Olympic champion. The
:14:14. > :14:17.full pirouette now. Up to the high bar, down to the low bar, will she
:14:18. > :14:25.go straightaway again? She does. That is five elements looped without
:14:26. > :14:31.anything extra. Floats that Pike from somersault. Smooth handstand.
:14:32. > :14:39.Straight into the full pirouette and into the dismount. That is what it
:14:40. > :14:43.is all about, ten elements and every one of them matters. Russia will be
:14:44. > :14:48.difficult to beat today. What a performance. Not only are they doing
:14:49. > :14:53.the difficult work but they are doing it in such style. There was
:14:54. > :15:01.not a lot for the judges to did that. She did every single element
:15:02. > :15:05.straight into a new element and there is the dismount with the
:15:06. > :15:06.landing which just shows the judges that final bit of, look what I can
:15:07. > :15:19.do. 15.3 three. What a performance from
:15:20. > :15:32.the Russians! Great Britain have the difficulty. Great treasure. Ruby
:15:33. > :15:40.Harold... A big routine. That was the danger of going for the big
:15:41. > :15:44.element! She now has to remount, she will not get the credit for that
:15:45. > :15:51.element, she did not actually get her hands on. Well... What a shame.
:15:52. > :15:58.What a shame for Great Britain. All is not lost. Come on!
:15:59. > :16:11.She has to carry the routine on... Paul Turner impact... Now... She
:16:12. > :16:19.must settle. That is good. Phil Perot wet... Cleanly through. Every
:16:20. > :16:25.score has to count. It is no good feeling defeated. Still got a
:16:26. > :16:32.release to come, all-important, Jager somersault, very good. Come
:16:33. > :16:37.on, Ruby! Up... Double front... Well, it is a big disappoint and but
:16:38. > :16:50.she managed to hold Turner and carry on to the end. It follows a 14.38
:16:51. > :16:58.from Gaby job. Scoring 14.1 six. One gymnast from Great Britain left.
:16:59. > :17:10.What can Rebecca Downie do? European champion. Commonwealth champion.
:17:11. > :17:17.Her forward element right at the beginning. Cleanly done.
:17:18. > :17:26.Immediately, securely into her release, ethical. Full Perot wet,
:17:27. > :17:37.down to the low bar. Good linking of elements. Just the turn... The
:17:38. > :17:43.dismount... , on! Full-twisting double back, beautiful routine. Just
:17:44. > :17:51.what was needed. Great Britain still in with a chance. You can see the
:17:52. > :17:58.turn, full turn, straight into the next release and catch. Fantastic
:17:59. > :18:04.lines, great height, just pin is that bar at slightly on the
:18:05. > :18:08.dismount, you can see her sporting. Great way to finish off for the
:18:09. > :18:18.team. After that disappointment with Ruby. Rebecca Downie scoring... Half
:18:19. > :18:36.way around. Russia leading the way, Great Britain in second...
:18:37. > :18:43.The Italians were in the bronze medal spot but an expect departure
:18:44. > :18:49.left them with a huge amount to do. One piece of apparat is left,
:18:50. > :18:53.meanwhile, over on the bin after posting 14.8, the Russian took a
:18:54. > :18:58.tumble. Was this the chance Great Britain had been waiting for? One
:18:59. > :19:08.for each for Great Britain and Russia. She was sensational on the
:19:09. > :19:18.bars. No doubt she will be sensational here but the pressure is
:19:19. > :19:23.on the former world team champion. An elegant, smooth gymnast. Starting
:19:24. > :19:31.off with a very difficult double spin, makes it look easy. Lovely
:19:32. > :19:40.split. Smoothly into the site somersault. Gymnasts have to link
:19:41. > :19:50.acrobatic skills and she goes for unusual links. The half-turn. Change
:19:51. > :19:59.leg. Three cartwheels... The single element so far. Free walkover...
:20:00. > :20:06.Just a little wobble. She gets the two elements linked. Has to do a
:20:07. > :20:16.backward element as well as a foreword. Fairly simple act flip.
:20:17. > :20:22.The change leg leap to a ring position, head released. It has been
:20:23. > :20:36.elegant. Smooth and secure. Building up. Here it comes... The double
:20:37. > :20:39.tough! Secured dismount. She was unfazed, always difficult after a
:20:40. > :20:48.team-mate has fallen. Russia do not look rattled. You can see the double
:20:49. > :20:53.tough dismount, she was not going to give anything to the judges.
:20:54. > :20:58.Slightly chest down on the landing, other than that, not a lot to deduct
:20:59. > :21:05.in that routine. Clean and tidy, very elegant. Gabrielle Jupp has
:21:06. > :21:16.already been on the bin. Scoring 14.1. Now it is time for Claudia
:21:17. > :21:23.Fragapane. With a 6-point to difficulty. This routine is
:21:24. > :21:26.absolutely packed. Had a falling qualification. Really up against it.
:21:27. > :21:41.Standing Arabian. Nails that. Change leg into sheep jump, such a
:21:42. > :21:47.difficult skill, concentrate. Backflip, up into the full twist.
:21:48. > :21:51.Just as we saw from the previous gymnast... Very difficult to combine
:21:52. > :22:06.somersault and twist. Regained her composure. Free
:22:07. > :22:10.cartwheel. Still quite a load of difficulty to go. Smooth spin, very
:22:11. > :22:38.nice rhythm. Now... A big dismount. Preceded by
:22:39. > :22:45.two backflips. Double pike... Holding it well. What a shame. What
:22:46. > :22:50.a courageous performance. That must have really taken... It was a nasty
:22:51. > :22:55.fall and she got up and did not let it get the better of her. The flick
:22:56. > :23:04.into the full-term... Bad left foot was down the side and there is
:23:05. > :23:08.nothing you can do. Marine Boyer... For France. There will be a
:23:09. > :23:24.deduction. 14 points 73. That looks like a remount... Great
:23:25. > :23:27.Britain's Rebecca Downie, we are joining her halfway through the
:23:28. > :23:34.routine after a fall. And a second... This could result in no
:23:35. > :23:43.medals at all at the end of today... This is where you have to be strong,
:23:44. > :23:51.get focused. The front somersault, that must have caused the problem.
:23:52. > :24:28.Attempts to change leg ring, that was good. Must do a good round of,
:24:29. > :24:33.the dismount... Right arm, double pike, but the damage was done. This
:24:34. > :24:40.team final is certainly not going the way of Great Britain.
:24:41. > :24:50.We may get a better idea of what happened to Becky. That will have
:24:51. > :24:54.been missed to falls, she fell on the first element, the front
:24:55. > :24:59.somersault, which we did not see but we saw before long the free
:25:00. > :25:06.cartwheel. This is the situation, another piece of apparat has to go.
:25:07. > :25:26.-- piece of apparat has. This young gymnast, just 15. 6-point
:25:27. > :25:31.to difficulty. She had a slightly hard time in qualification. Scoring
:25:32. > :25:38.only 11. Stoop in and out with the full Perot wet.
:25:39. > :25:50.Cleanly done. The stoop works a lot. This is going to be a strong
:25:51. > :25:57.routine. Down to the low bar. Into the handstand. Using that element
:25:58. > :26:04.loads. Smooth. You can see the team willing her on. This will be good.
:26:05. > :26:13.Full-twisting double tough... A huge improvement. She put all hope her
:26:14. > :26:19.qualification wrongs to bed there. 15, surely she is a dream for a
:26:20. > :26:26.coach. She looks at, doesn't she? The prize into the Tkachev...
:26:27. > :26:35.Difficult combination. The French in third, look at them. Aliya
:26:36. > :26:39.Mustafina, the last gymnast to go. The Olympic runs medallist, can she
:26:40. > :26:41.get through this. The team title will be various. -- bronze
:26:42. > :26:46.medallist. A little bit out of control in that
:26:47. > :27:55.spin. Must workers. One and a half... Full
:27:56. > :28:01.twist straight... Not the most difficult we have seen.
:28:02. > :28:17.Adjusting the landing. Big combination.
:28:18. > :28:24.Double tough... Better on the landing, not the most of the Gold
:28:25. > :28:26.routine. A little bit of a nonchalant performance. -- not the
:28:27. > :28:38.most ethical. Down on what she is capable of but
:28:39. > :28:52.it is enough for Russia to take the gold. Claudia Fragapane needs this
:28:53. > :28:59.to secure silver for Great Britain. Prepare to be entertained. Watch
:29:00. > :29:03.this. Full-twisting double layout, immediately. Superb.
:29:04. > :29:14.Loving the music. Working the floor. Watch this.
:29:15. > :29:24.Really smart... Straight into the league, to avoid a deduction.
:29:25. > :29:27.Working well in the leap, controlling the power. Such an
:29:28. > :29:34.original gymnast. Hold on... Stands up... Triple
:29:35. > :29:57.twist... Much better on the landing. Really selling this routine. Good on
:29:58. > :30:11.the spin. Can she hold on? Stands up... Double
:30:12. > :30:23.layout... Did well to seal the landing. Superb. Have it! It is a
:30:24. > :30:26.great warm up for tomorrow. Just a leap too far for this team title.
:30:27. > :30:40.Sauber for Great Britain. 14.833 for Claudia Fragapane. Can
:30:41. > :30:46.Drake ridden finish second? The results of the women's team final.
:30:47. > :30:52.Russia take gold, head of Great Britain in finish -- in second and
:30:53. > :30:57.France take that. Russia take gold in the women's team final. Great
:30:58. > :31:02.Britain, silver and France take the bronze.
:31:03. > :31:09.How important was it to seal that silver? It was really important or
:31:10. > :31:14.stop by just give it my all on the floor, and the audit, really. Gaby,
:31:15. > :31:19.it is your first international back after several years of injury. What
:31:20. > :31:25.does this medal mean to you? Incredible. Still silver medallists.
:31:26. > :31:30.To be back with this team, I cannot ask, any more. It is what it is. And
:31:31. > :31:35.hopefully it next time we will have a few less falls. We did our best
:31:36. > :31:40.and everyone can do a little bit better, so it is promising. Ruby,
:31:41. > :31:44.that is one of the big positives. With the mistakes that were made,
:31:45. > :31:50.there is room for improvement moving ahead to rear. Definitely, it shows
:31:51. > :31:54.how much we are growing as a team, and we're proving that even with
:31:55. > :32:01.that many mistakes we can produce results and we can still produce
:32:02. > :32:06.medals. Just to put it into context, two marks clear of third position,
:32:07. > :32:11.France. All round, great performances. But of course there
:32:12. > :32:15.are areas for improvement. Gaby said it herself, a few less falls next
:32:16. > :32:22.time. But there were a lot on the beam. We do as a team have to count
:32:23. > :32:27.four falls. With this scenario, it is gruelling. A few years ago if we
:32:28. > :32:31.had had that many mistakes there would have been no chance of getting
:32:32. > :32:38.near the medals. That is one boost that we can take away. The girls,
:32:39. > :32:41.you could see were laughing at those falls, but genuinely, they were
:32:42. > :32:46.disappointed, having qualified in first, not to have taken home the
:32:47. > :32:50.gold. Russia did up their game and they would have been difficult to
:32:51. > :32:55.beat. It would have been interesting to see where we would have stood had
:32:56. > :33:00.both teams gone clean. What are the chances of getting a team medal in
:33:01. > :33:04.Rio, is it a little bit out of reach, perhaps? The difficulty level
:33:05. > :33:10.that we are seeing now from the women's team, it is way up there,
:33:11. > :33:13.and it is going to push. The strength and depth of the British
:33:14. > :33:20.team is continuing leap pushing each other. The fact that we have left
:33:21. > :33:25.gymnast at home who could quite easily be in that team as well, and
:33:26. > :33:30.still have a similar result shows how strong we are, as a nation. Just
:33:31. > :33:37.a word on Romania who finished sixth. They have had a nightmare
:33:38. > :33:41.couple of years, 13th in the World Championships, and they will not be
:33:42. > :33:46.competing in Rio, at the Olympics. It is so frustrating for them. You
:33:47. > :33:50.would always see them up there among the medals. They have been plagued
:33:51. > :33:53.injury, which is unfortunate that it is so strange not having them up
:33:54. > :33:58.there challenging for the medals. It will be the first time since 1976
:33:59. > :34:07.that they will not on the medal podium in that final. The team job
:34:08. > :34:10.is done as far as the Europeans are concerned. Now it is time for the
:34:11. > :34:34.individuals, the specialists, for the apparatus finals.
:34:35. > :34:42.We feel the good times coming. Great Britain have gymnasts in every
:34:43. > :34:47.apparatus finals, seven in all, more than any other country. Are you
:34:48. > :34:52.surprised by what came out in qualification? To be honest, no. A
:34:53. > :34:54.few years ago you would have said yes, but the results have been
:34:55. > :34:58.coming through thick and fast over the past few years. We have a lot of
:34:59. > :35:04.experience and medal potential in that team. In some ways we could
:35:05. > :35:09.have three gymnasts in the final but with the ruling, you are only
:35:10. > :35:13.allowed two so it pushes the gymnasts to performing
:35:14. > :35:19.qualification. This could be the time that they were men are going to
:35:20. > :35:24.go ahead of the men. Don't worry! Camaraderie and trust is the key to
:35:25. > :35:28.team success with Great Britain and two of the gymnasts could not be any
:35:29. > :35:38.closer, and that is because they are sisters. David Ming paid has caught
:35:39. > :35:43.up with the competitors, the double Downies. How much do you enjoy
:35:44. > :35:48.competing for Team GB together? It is nice to have that on the floor.
:35:49. > :35:53.It is more nerve wracking watching her, I couldn't do it, I had to sit
:35:54. > :36:02.down and hold my breath a little bit or stop and for me, after London had
:36:03. > :36:06.was a tough time, whether to choose to carry on or not, but I felt that
:36:07. > :36:11.I loved the sport and that I had more to give. And not just because
:36:12. > :36:16.Ellie has been on the team. This team of girls have gelled together
:36:17. > :36:26.very well. And now we are fighting for medals. Becky Downie prepares
:36:27. > :36:30.for the bars. And Ellie, you grew up watching your big sister at the
:36:31. > :36:35.Olympics, and Beijing. What sort of inspiration was she for you? It
:36:36. > :36:39.definitely spurred me on to think, if Becky has got there, I can get
:36:40. > :36:44.there, too. I remember watching her on TV. But when you are little it
:36:45. > :36:50.seems like she's just at another competition, I guess. You are
:36:51. > :36:57.sisters. You get own most of the time. Do you ever fall out? I would
:36:58. > :37:02.say that we fall out Adderley. We just irritate each other sometimes.
:37:03. > :37:12.Normally, Becky moaning irritates me. And I don't give her full access
:37:13. > :37:15.to my room, to be fair. You expect things to be there when you go home
:37:16. > :37:22.and it is gone, that is the most annoying thing. And she is a bit
:37:23. > :37:27.bigger than you. It is everything. It is clothes, body spray, not so
:37:28. > :37:30.much make up now, because she has got quite a good collection of her
:37:31. > :37:37.own, but anything, she will happily just take. In what ways do you think
:37:38. > :37:45.you are different? I am definitely more organised. Ellie is a bit more
:37:46. > :37:51.the crazy, fun type. We both like to have fun at the same time. But I
:37:52. > :37:58.would say that I am more serious and keeping my room tidy and that kind
:37:59. > :38:02.of thing. And Ellie is not. You have been here before, you have done it
:38:03. > :38:09.all. You have the Olympic Attu. Will you get one of those with the rings?
:38:10. > :38:17.Yes, definitely. Have you ask your mum, are you allowed? Yes, she was
:38:18. > :38:23.like, yes, do what you want. Do you think that you will come back with
:38:24. > :38:27.medals from Rio? I think so. To be able to say that you are an Olympian
:38:28. > :38:31.is just a special thing that will stay with you for the rest of your
:38:32. > :38:35.life. Hopefully, we get through the experience together. That will be
:38:36. > :38:41.incredible. Just so much to look forward to. However it works, it's a
:38:42. > :38:46.winning combination. Between them they have I was at these European
:38:47. > :38:52.Championships and the first one that we are cutting to is the vault.
:38:53. > :39:03.Ellie is the current British champion. Claudia Fragapane begin
:39:04. > :39:05.Purse. And Julia Steingruber, look out for her, she's looking for the
:39:06. > :39:28.title and fun of her Sofia Busato is the first to go, the
:39:29. > :39:31.first of two vaults. And on the way. The double twist, Colleen in the
:39:32. > :39:40.air. Good distance, good first thought. -- cleaning the air.
:39:41. > :39:48.Divorce are added together and the average is taken to the total score.
:39:49. > :39:53.-- the false added together. There will be a bit of a deduction for
:39:54. > :39:57.being off the centre line. But she really lifts well. Very up in the
:39:58. > :40:17.air. Good, pure technique. The second vault for the youngest
:40:18. > :40:25.gymnast in this final. Straight from the half term, slightly off to one
:40:26. > :40:34.side, not as accurate as the first thought, but not a bad start. -- the
:40:35. > :40:48.first vault. Good lift, here. Nice shape. Clean half-turn. She needs to
:40:49. > :40:54.get the feet right up and over. She makes the half-turn. Holes are good
:40:55. > :40:58.shape and lands with one foot in front of the other which is a
:40:59. > :41:09.deduction but only out of 5.4 for this vault. 14.599 is the final
:41:10. > :41:21.score. Here we have Julia Steingruber, the European champion
:41:22. > :41:27.of 2014 and 2013. The most difficult vault we have seen yet. Look at the
:41:28. > :41:40.difficulty as well as the hike. Huge power. It certainly was a very
:41:41. > :41:46.powerful efficient gymnast. High off the top of the table. Slightly to
:41:47. > :41:51.one side but not deductible. 1.5 twist forward in the straight
:41:52. > :41:57.position. You almost think there could be another half-turn end
:41:58. > :42:11.there. The time that she has got to look down and spot her landing at
:42:12. > :42:18.the end. Often favoured the 1.5, 2.5, she is the only gymnast in this
:42:19. > :42:30.final to average with both vaults over 15. Slightly easier vault at
:42:31. > :42:35.5.8. Not quite the same attack but good control, double twist. Not so
:42:36. > :42:42.well rehearsed on that. She hung in the air a little bit and she got
:42:43. > :42:45.those feet down. Ellie Downie of Great Britain will be close
:42:46. > :42:52.competition for her. That was quite a big step on landing. And off to
:42:53. > :43:00.the side as well. Not as well rehearsed. She twists early off the
:43:01. > :43:07.top, with a big hike on the landing. Twisting early of the top, that is
:43:08. > :43:13.deductible. Landing chest down. Fortunately she has two high-scoring
:43:14. > :43:19.vaults which gives her that security within this competition. When you
:43:20. > :43:34.twist early, it pulls you to that side. You can see, off to one side.
:43:35. > :43:41.That is 14 point 983. Steingruber goes into the lead at the moment.
:43:42. > :43:47.She is 0.38 ahead of the rest of the field. Claudia Fragapane of great
:43:48. > :43:55.button, the Commonwealth champion on vault. Can she vault her way onto
:43:56. > :44:02.the medal podium at the Don macro? Double twist and what the landing.
:44:03. > :44:10.That was neat, very neat. -- at the European Gymnastics Championships.
:44:11. > :44:15.She absolutely nailed that landing. Really dynamic. She has tidied this
:44:16. > :44:23.vault up a lot. Slightly off line. She comes on very early, twists
:44:24. > :44:34.well. Loses it a tiny bit at the end but much better vaulting than we
:44:35. > :44:36.have seen. I know that it is a very girly thing to say but I love that
:44:37. > :44:53.leotard. Let's balance it out... Me too!
:44:54. > :45:05.Death... What about you? I love it. It's a big score. -- Beth... The
:45:06. > :45:06.second vault, slightly easier, you can see on the difficulty
:45:07. > :45:20.scoreboard. Here we go. Powerful run-up, have turned... A
:45:21. > :45:27.little off to one side, a little bit untidy. But solid. I thought she
:45:28. > :45:33.could well but that misdirection, managed to control it. She is so
:45:34. > :45:45.gritty. She goes off direction a little bit. She arches to show the
:45:46. > :45:50.straight shape and that deduction... It will have its deductions but it's
:45:51. > :45:57.so complicated, have turn on, off... Somersault. So easy to be slightly
:45:58. > :46:04.off direction. It's improving, this vault. But she needs the next eight
:46:05. > :46:12.weeks. To be really ready for fighting for a final at the
:46:13. > :46:16.Olympics. A total score of 14.5 four. In third at the moment.
:46:17. > :46:27.Third-highest qualifier. Big, powerful falter, style and
:46:28. > :46:53.height. The legs were locked tight. You can see, in her face, the
:46:54. > :47:01.concentration for the second vault. Here we go. Probably the highest and
:47:02. > :47:06.cleanest we have seen. Twists... Two steps on landing, that will be
:47:07. > :47:12.costly. Rounding off, blocks, must have straight arms. You can see her
:47:13. > :47:24.toes are pointed, great execution. Double twist. Large step back.
:47:25. > :47:38.Already chosen the same difficulty vault as Claudia.
:47:39. > :47:54.Second complicated vault... Half on, have out... Nicely performed, nice
:47:55. > :48:05.and tidy, well... The school to go ahead is 14.5 49. Limping a little
:48:06. > :48:11.bit. Slightly better in the block. A little bit low, a deduction, the
:48:12. > :48:17.flight, more central, blocked for the half-turn, slightly to one side.
:48:18. > :48:23.A real battle for these gymnasts. Blocking, needing to lock out the
:48:24. > :48:34.arms, locking the legs. Good length. Could do with more height. Those
:48:35. > :48:41.were two pretty clean false. And she goes ahead of Claudia, into second.
:48:42. > :48:56.Giuilia Steingruber currently leading. The schoolwork to beat is
:48:57. > :49:04.14.5 99. Just a reminder... Two faults are added together, the
:49:05. > :49:06.average taken. The junior European champion, Ellie Downie. The current
:49:07. > :49:13.British champion. Chance for a medal. Needs a strong, clean fault,
:49:14. > :49:25.that is what we get. You default. Lovely height. Well... It is getting
:49:26. > :49:30.exciting! That is how you respond, superb block. Height, wrapping in,
:49:31. > :49:38.double twist, straight down the middle. You could not have asked for
:49:39. > :49:47.any more. That is the entry... Wrapping in... Locking the leg and
:49:48. > :49:54.feet, but will certainly challenge. She surely must get why nine
:49:55. > :50:00.execution for that... Absolutely locked to the Central line.
:50:01. > :50:11.The second vault to go over 15 in this final so far. Second vault,
:50:12. > :50:19.slightly easier. How measured do you go? This is the point. It is a big
:50:20. > :50:26.challenge. Her less favoured vault. Very technical.
:50:27. > :50:36.Needs to be clean... Very good. That is clean, such lovely shaping in the
:50:37. > :50:43.air. The front somersault straight with half-turn. Beautifully
:50:44. > :50:46.performed. Has to be a European medal but what colour? That is as
:50:47. > :50:55.clean as we have seen for the second vault. Handspring straight, the best
:50:56. > :51:02.we have seen. If any false deserve to go into first place, it will be
:51:03. > :51:08.those. Down on the difficulty. But for execution... Those were superb.
:51:09. > :51:20.The score to beat for gold is 14.983... Everybody waiting. Eyes
:51:21. > :51:31.glued on the scoreboard. What will it be? She has a silver!
:51:32. > :51:38.CHEERING Hugging the leader. Giuilia
:51:39. > :51:46.Steingruber, yet again, European vault champion.
:51:47. > :52:18.The European vault silver, how do you feel? So chuffed, came into the
:52:19. > :52:23.final, qualified in second. Did good like I usually do, I should
:52:24. > :52:29.hopefully come in the top three and I came second, it's amazing. Second
:52:30. > :52:34.behind Giuilia Steingruber, how pleased are you with how it went?
:52:35. > :52:41.Some of the best I could have done and I knew she had hired difficulty
:52:42. > :52:49.than me. I knew to share a podium with her. We will see how she gets
:52:50. > :52:54.on the floor final later. Let's have a word on the European champion,
:52:55. > :53:01.Giuilia Steingruber. The difference between the first and second vault.
:53:02. > :53:07.The only reason she took the title head of Ellie was the first vault.
:53:08. > :53:14.Her second vault, we know she had trouble with it. Not a favoured
:53:15. > :53:17.vault, she got injured at the World Championships, she has had to fight
:53:18. > :53:22.back from injury and you can tell she's not confident with that. She
:53:23. > :53:27.has eight weeks leading up to the Olympics to consolidated. It's
:53:28. > :53:32.difficult to believe that Ellie is 16. She hasn't been out of the
:53:33. > :53:38.junior ranks and to see the style and grace and execution she is out.
:53:39. > :53:42.Quite remarkable. It is, with them vault, the only reason she got beat
:53:43. > :53:47.was because of the stored value. What she did, really good, the
:53:48. > :53:52.height and power off the top is unbelievable. Speaking with Beth
:53:53. > :53:59.earlier, she has been training on different faults to get up the
:54:00. > :54:02.difficulty. The chance of vault final in the Olympics? It depends
:54:03. > :54:06.whether she goes with the upgrades or she plays safe. She's an
:54:07. > :54:12.all-rounder, they have to take that into consideration. She works well
:54:13. > :54:18.on the other apparat us. It will be a tough decision. An interesting
:54:19. > :54:23.time in her career. The only team member missing from the world bronze
:54:24. > :54:28.medal winning line-up is Amy Tinkler who should be studying for her
:54:29. > :54:32.exams. Any, we know you are watching, you keep messaging us, get
:54:33. > :54:39.to work, it's nice to have you with us. In her absence, Gabrielle Jupp
:54:40. > :54:44.has been called up. The perfect time to introduce the current British
:54:45. > :54:54.bars champion, the biggest challenge to date has been injury. It's so
:54:55. > :54:59.exciting to be back in the kit, I have been out for a while, it's a
:55:00. > :55:03.relief to know I made it back. European Championships in Moscow,
:55:04. > :55:07.tell us what you remember. I remember I was on the beam, I heard
:55:08. > :55:17.a snap in my knee... I knew something was wrong but at the time,
:55:18. > :55:23.I didn't know how serious it was. In 2015, it happened again. Plenty of
:55:24. > :55:29.times I felt like I couldn't do this any more but it's part of the sport
:55:30. > :55:33.and you know you can get there... If you put your mind to it. To see the
:55:34. > :55:38.girls compete last year and get a bronze... It is amazing. Incredible
:55:39. > :55:44.moment to watch. Part of you wishes you were there in the team. But yes,
:55:45. > :55:52.I guess it makes you more motivated to get back. Tell us about how you
:55:53. > :55:56.managed to get so good on the bars. The bars has no impact on my legs
:55:57. > :56:00.since I was injured so I got good in it, the starred values have gone up
:56:01. > :56:07.I quite allot, that has helped. Hard work has paid off. It is really
:56:08. > :56:12.exciting to have made the finals. I think, sometimes I am a bit hard on
:56:13. > :56:16.myself, I forget what I have been through. Quite big injuries and I
:56:17. > :56:23.get annoyed when I do not perform my best not to be back here, the
:56:24. > :56:27.European Championships, I think I have to be a bit more pleased with
:56:28. > :56:34.myself. She is here and in with a good shout and a chance for the
:56:35. > :56:39.Olympics. We are world renowned on this piece of apparat us because of
:56:40. > :56:44.what you managed to achieve and it has gathered pace within the team.
:56:45. > :56:51.It has, it has been one of our strongest pieces and I think Gaby
:56:52. > :56:55.alluded to it, myself, Becky, Ruby, we have all had injuries to knees
:56:56. > :57:00.and feet so it gives you more time to train on it. Gaby was always a
:57:01. > :57:04.nice bar worker but didn't have the biggest difficulty and during her
:57:05. > :57:08.time off with her knee, she has been able to increase the difficulty,
:57:09. > :57:16.putting new combinations and obviously it's paid off. Must be a
:57:17. > :57:23.great feeling to hand the batten onto the likes of Becky Downie. She
:57:24. > :57:27.is in this final and she became European champion back in 2014.
:57:28. > :57:37.Towards the end of my career I was making the finals and Becky was
:57:38. > :57:47.there as well. Aliya Mustafina in there as well, the current champion.
:57:48. > :57:51.Let's find out what happened in the bars final.
:57:52. > :58:24.The moves linked together. And upstart handstand. Have turned. Must
:58:25. > :58:32.have release and re-grasp. Front somersault. Clean half-turn. Up...
:58:33. > :58:39.Accelerating into the full-twisting double back. This mount. That is the
:58:40. > :58:46.sort of routine that many of the gymnasts will favour. You will see
:58:47. > :58:53.with the lot of the top gymnasts... There is no empty swings. Every
:58:54. > :58:59.single skill is connected. To the top bar, clean lines... Good lines
:59:00. > :59:08.on the handstand. Really focusing in on nutbar. The toll on and off... Up
:59:09. > :59:16.to the top bar, clean lines. Straight... The coaches happy. Great
:59:17. > :59:24.to see Hungary in a couple of finals. Moving up the ranks. She is
:59:25. > :59:30.pleased. Good day. She is having a great day! Really light and stylish.
:59:31. > :59:34.Nice to watch. Champion of the future hopefully. On the dismount...
:59:35. > :59:50.Shoulders down at the end. She posted a 5.9 difficulty. There
:59:51. > :59:57.is room for improvement. A score of 14.4.
:59:58. > :00:03.Hope for the future for the 16-year-old.
:00:04. > :00:11.Now it is the turn of Becky Downie of great written, she was European
:00:12. > :00:16.champion on bars in 2014, current, nor champion. -- current
:00:17. > :00:32.Commonwealth champion. Gymnasts have to swing forward and
:00:33. > :00:38.backwards. She starts with the forward element, quite difficult and
:00:39. > :00:44.precise. Now, the big combination. The up rise, the kite, very
:00:45. > :00:49.difficult. The full direct that you have to include beautifully done,
:00:50. > :00:55.into the shoulder catches, she is linking it altogether. Up to that
:00:56. > :01:01.high bar again. Here we go. The third release, the bigger routine,
:01:02. > :01:06.the half-turn, come on, Becky, into the dismount, full twisting double
:01:07. > :01:10.back into the landing, well done, Becky Downie, she went for broke.
:01:11. > :01:15.That is going to be the benchmark for gold. She went for difficulty
:01:16. > :01:20.and you can see the difference between those first couple of
:01:21. > :01:24.routines and that, every single element linked into another element.
:01:25. > :01:29.The first release, straight down into another release for the low
:01:30. > :01:35.bar, that is how they build up difficulty, then up to the top bar,
:01:36. > :01:42.into another release and catch. Becky has such dynamic work on bars.
:01:43. > :01:48.Just the final piece, with the full twisting double back dismount. And
:01:49. > :01:57.the small step on landing but a fantastic routine and she has set
:01:58. > :02:02.the mark for the others to follow. She has certainly laid down the
:02:03. > :02:07.gauntlet there. Delighted for her. She had a bit of a wobbly day
:02:08. > :02:14.yesterday. She always wants to push and go for the harder routine. Some
:02:15. > :02:18.sense would say don't, really, but she stayed true to herself, and when
:02:19. > :02:26.she was given the freedom, to do this routine from her coach. There
:02:27. > :02:33.was no way that she would win this final playing it safe. And that was
:02:34. > :02:39.packed with difficulty. Great job. But she could have meddled. That was
:02:40. > :02:44.choosing the silver medal or chancing it and pushing for the
:02:45. > :02:53.gold. I like the style of that, go all out, go for it! Becky Downie
:02:54. > :03:01.lays down the Golden gauntlet of 15.5. That's going to be a very
:03:02. > :03:07.difficult score to beat. Look at that. Aliya Mustafina can certainly
:03:08. > :03:15.challenge Becky Downie, the current Olympic champion. How difficult will
:03:16. > :03:19.she go? The stoop in and out, the immediate pack, and she has missed
:03:20. > :03:25.that connection and taking the handstand. Beautifully performed.
:03:26. > :03:31.She will have lost some bonus points there. Super scoop in and out with
:03:32. > :03:37.half-tone, she has got a real fluency on the bars. Full pirouette.
:03:38. > :03:43.Straight out of the half-tone. And into the big dismount. Beautiful
:03:44. > :03:48.routine, but not quite as difficult as the one we saw yesterday. It
:03:49. > :03:56.looked good on execution but down on difficulty. Do you think that Becky
:03:57. > :04:01.is safe? I am not predicting. I would say that she is saved.
:04:02. > :04:08.Beautifully executed routine. She went for perfection but she did miss
:04:09. > :04:12.the connection just before this low to high bar transition. That will
:04:13. > :04:16.bring the difficulty down. And Rebecca brought her difficulty up.
:04:17. > :04:21.But a great landing on this dismount. But her face said it all
:04:22. > :04:30.afterwards. She knew she had missed that connection. So you can't really
:04:31. > :04:33.tell. I thought yesterday that the British girls were not affected by
:04:34. > :04:38.the work of the Russians out of them, working so well, but it sort
:04:39. > :04:42.of make them doubt themselves a little bit. And a little bit the
:04:43. > :04:48.same today, and Becky having gone for the bigger routine and scoring
:04:49. > :04:53.15.5, that left her knowing that it had to be perfect, and she did not
:04:54. > :04:57.quite rise to it. She didn't have any other connections to add, she
:04:58. > :05:04.was always going to have that 6.5 that she posted in qualification.
:05:05. > :05:09.Becky is the current leader. I think that Mustafina will go into the
:05:10. > :05:17.second spot. You know what that is like there, pacing around... You
:05:18. > :05:22.cannot control it, you have done your job, but he can stand there
:05:23. > :05:28.knowing that she has done the best that she could have done. Better to
:05:29. > :05:33.go before the other gymnasts? That must settle your little bit. Yes, to
:05:34. > :05:41.get your routine done and dusted. I would rather be sat waiting than
:05:42. > :05:48.waiting to actually perform. 15.1 four Mustafina. 6.3 difficulty as
:05:49. > :05:58.opposed to 6.9 from Becky Downie. So Becky Downie leads ahead of
:05:59. > :06:05.Mustafina. The third spot is 14.4. A score that Gabby Jupp of Great
:06:06. > :06:12.Britain can challenge. Current British bars champion. Starts to
:06:13. > :06:22.work on the low bar. Steep full turn. The half-tone. She didn't just
:06:23. > :06:29.get her hands on the bar. 30 seconds to recover. You could see just not
:06:30. > :06:35.high enough, got one hand on and the other one just couldn't get on, the
:06:36. > :06:40.hand guard over the top of the bar. She went for the full pirouette at
:06:41. > :06:45.the beginning. It gets you more marks, but it is riskier. Certainly
:06:46. > :06:59.is. She wants to finish well. Onto the high bar. The half-tone. Good
:07:00. > :07:07.somersault. Much better. The handstand. Down to the low bar.
:07:08. > :07:13.Takes the up start, back up to the top, more secure that time. The
:07:14. > :07:19.somersault towards the low bar. Very interesting work. Come on, hang on
:07:20. > :07:25.for the dismount, double layout, super finish. Just a shame at the
:07:26. > :07:30.start. That is a sign of great composure to take that ball, get
:07:31. > :07:34.back onto the bars and to whip through that routine in such a
:07:35. > :07:39.beautiful fashion. It is. She has been out of competition for a while
:07:40. > :07:43.as well. The more you compete the or build your confidence so to take
:07:44. > :07:49.that fall and a European final, you can just see that the left hand
:07:50. > :07:54.wasn't quite on, luckily her coach was there to catch her, towards the
:07:55. > :07:59.end. Slightly early on she came off the bar, so she was not quite on top
:08:00. > :08:10.of it, but a great release on catch, you can see her spotting it, the
:08:11. > :08:18.whole time. 13.44 Gabby Jupp. The current world and European
:08:19. > :08:31.Championships, Spiridinova. The school to beat, 15.5. -- the score
:08:32. > :08:37.to beat. Full connected, straight into the top bar and back down, back
:08:38. > :08:49.up again, that is the connection. Steep path, perfect hand position,
:08:50. > :08:56.into the pike Jagr. Working well. On and off, full turn. The full twist
:08:57. > :09:03.double back. Is it good enough? Not today. It was compact, concise and
:09:04. > :09:08.over very quickly, packing in the difficulty. This is going to come
:09:09. > :09:14.right town to the wire. Becky Downie of great written currently leading
:09:15. > :09:22.the field at 15.5. -- of Great Britain. It was a similar routine to
:09:23. > :09:27.the team final yesterday. Very elegant, lovely, clean lines, you
:09:28. > :09:32.can see on the release and catch from the low bar to the high bar,
:09:33. > :09:38.everything is elegant to watch but I think it is going to be down on
:09:39. > :09:44.Rebecca. I am going to say that Rebecca 's got it. When she was
:09:45. > :09:51.world champion she scored 15.36 and in qualification scored 15.36. It
:09:52. > :10:00.was as good as qualification but no better. Fingers crossed we have Team
:10:01. > :10:07.GB champion. Do you know, if Rebecca has done this, she's done it in very
:10:08. > :10:11.good company? She has had to really rise to it. She should be delighted
:10:12. > :10:18.with her performance, whatever. That is beautiful bar work. What shall I
:10:19. > :10:28.say? A black little bit of sparkle, of excitement. -- it lacked a little
:10:29. > :10:39.bit. It had no wow factor to it. And Becky certainly had that. 15.466,
:10:40. > :10:51.not enough to go ahead of Great Britain 's Becky Downie. She is the
:10:52. > :10:57.champion, again. Fantastic for Becky Downie. You can see what it means.
:10:58. > :11:09.Well, there's confirmation that Becky Downie regains the European
:11:10. > :11:17.bar is vital ahead of Spiridinova. Aliya Mustafina, the second Russian,
:11:18. > :11:23.takes bronze. This year 's European champion, from Great Britain, is
:11:24. > :11:30.Rebecca Downie. She beats the world and Olympic champion to become
:11:31. > :11:37.European champion, 2016. What a moment. What a time to win back the
:11:38. > :11:43.European title. Just the right moment. And the Russian team that
:11:44. > :11:49.did not take her challenge lightly. They change the person they put in,
:11:50. > :11:59.the current world champions, who have qualified. They swapped with
:12:00. > :12:05.the one who have qualified. They threw everything at Becky Downie,
:12:06. > :12:12.and she responded. It was a performance that was so needed for
:12:13. > :12:17.her. Looking ahead to the next few months, what her future would be,
:12:18. > :12:22.how certain was that place in the Britain team? Today, she has
:12:23. > :12:29.delivered, and nobody can take that away from her. Great Britain 's
:12:30. > :12:45.Rebecca Downie is the bars European Championships.
:12:46. > :13:19.APPLAUSE She came here and she delivered. She
:13:20. > :13:23.knew what she was capable of doing. The question was, could she
:13:24. > :13:29.replicate it today on this stage? Well, there is the evidence. Very
:13:30. > :13:34.pleased, not just to win the gold, but the fact that I made my hardest
:13:35. > :13:37.routine, I have been working on it for at least a year, and for its
:13:38. > :13:43.finally off now is amazing. I knew that I would have to test it and put
:13:44. > :13:47.it out for the team for Rio and I'm pleased that I did. I was
:13:48. > :13:51.disappointed that I fell, but I needed to go for my connections.
:13:52. > :13:59.Those were my chances to get a medal. I thought this was the chance
:14:00. > :14:01.to try it out and it did not pay or if well worth trying those
:14:02. > :14:05.connections as far as Gabby is concerned. She said in her
:14:06. > :14:11.interview, if she wanted to medal today, she had to go for the those
:14:12. > :14:16.connections. You don't want to try it where you can maybe mess up in
:14:17. > :14:20.the team event and mess up the team's medal position but today it
:14:21. > :14:25.is all about doing it for yourself. When you are doing the routine, can
:14:26. > :14:37.you train them so that they are so fluid, or is there always an element
:14:38. > :14:42.of when you do it? There is different lighting, you walk from
:14:43. > :14:46.the back gym, she will be relying heavily on her coach, Steve, to make
:14:47. > :14:51.sure that the bars are set exactly how she wants them. Today the
:14:52. > :14:59.connection did not quite a off. But there is still more to come from
:15:00. > :15:01.Gabby. And Becky Downie, how content must she be feeling knowing that she
:15:02. > :15:06.had been working on that routine for a year, and it all happened at the
:15:07. > :15:12.right time? She will be over the moon. She will have been working
:15:13. > :15:16.hard on that routine and to hit it in a major competition, she will be
:15:17. > :15:19.so happy, especially with it coming before the Olympics. She has beaten
:15:20. > :15:24.the current Olympic and world champion, so she will have a lot of
:15:25. > :15:29.confidence. The best from America and China will no doubt be watching
:15:30. > :15:34.that. What message does that send out to them?
:15:35. > :15:43.The biggest message is the starred value, she has time to improve it
:15:44. > :15:48.even more, she had a 6.9 routine, the current world champion couldn't
:15:49. > :15:53.even match it, the current Olympic champion, it will be interesting to
:15:54. > :15:58.see what the Chinese come up with. You think they will go all out?
:15:59. > :16:02.Definitely. One of the most experienced gymnasts in the British
:16:03. > :16:08.squad these days is Ruby Harold who has helped the team reach greater
:16:09. > :16:10.heights. Many happy returns to the gym of the British team, here is
:16:11. > :16:21.Ruby. How do you see your role within the
:16:22. > :16:26.team? I like to see myself as a team leader, making sure everyone is OK,
:16:27. > :16:30.the girls have what they need. As part of the team, you don't
:16:31. > :16:35.necessarily have your coach on the floor with you, it can be difficult
:16:36. > :16:39.when you are new, younger athlete. Trying to keep the team Cameron
:16:40. > :16:46.focused, making sure I and cheerleading when I am not
:16:47. > :16:50.competing. You have show the world what you have in Glasgow, tell us
:16:51. > :16:55.what it was like. World Championship success last year was phenomenal,
:16:56. > :16:58.it's nice to know there are is people behind us and the sport is
:16:59. > :17:04.growing. You have had injuries and sadness. My mum passed away for
:17:05. > :17:08.neither seven, I very young and naive, I am pretty sure I did not
:17:09. > :17:14.understand the situation to the extent I should have. He and my
:17:15. > :17:17.sisters are close, two years apart, always there for each other and I
:17:18. > :17:22.try and make sure I bring that to the team. It was a big thing to
:17:23. > :17:28.happen when you are young but I have gymnastics to keep me occupied so I
:17:29. > :17:31.kept busy. That helped. If you make the Olympics, you are going to have
:17:32. > :17:39.to postpone another stage of your life? What is happening? I have for
:17:40. > :17:46.your scholarship to Louisiana State University this coming August. It's
:17:47. > :17:49.really exciting, new chapter of my life, as an international student I
:17:50. > :17:53.have to be there on the 11th of August but of course if it goes to
:17:54. > :17:57.plan I will miss that date so I probably won't be able to get there
:17:58. > :18:02.until the 25th, I will potentially miss the first week of schools which
:18:03. > :18:06.is unfortunate but I have a valid reason so it doesn't matter. I am
:18:07. > :18:10.sure you want to go out on a high after doing well in the Olympics,
:18:11. > :18:15.how important would it the to make a new life in the States, having
:18:16. > :18:20.competed for great written? Making the Olympic team were top of
:18:21. > :18:23.everything, round of my gymnastics career but if that doesn't happen I
:18:24. > :18:27.have something to look forward to and the next four years of my life
:18:28. > :18:35.in a completely different environment which is fantastic. We
:18:36. > :18:43.will come and visit. Louisiana, it's quite a common thing, most of large
:18:44. > :18:49.gymnasts hop over the pond. Nicola Willis in 2004, she was one of the
:18:50. > :18:52.first to start and it's a great way for our gymnasts... They are not
:18:53. > :19:00.quite ready to retire but they don't want to carry on competing, Becky
:19:01. > :19:04.and others, they have done well. Dan, I am just imagining you in a
:19:05. > :19:10.soft top, do you fancy a trip there? It would be nice, but it's not for
:19:11. > :19:14.me. When I am done with my gymnastics, that will be yet, I will
:19:15. > :19:19.not want to prolong it. Concentrate on a new life. From one of the most
:19:20. > :19:23.experienced members of the British team to the new gymnasts coming
:19:24. > :19:28.through. A word on the juniors, bring you up-to-date with what's
:19:29. > :19:32.happening. Some wonderful pictures. The junior girls to the team silver,
:19:33. > :19:39.all of those gymnasts between the age of the team and 16, it didn't
:19:40. > :19:42.stop with the team, look at the individuals, Maisie Methuen, took
:19:43. > :19:48.fourth in the all-around, fifth on the beam. Look at the difficulty.
:19:49. > :19:55.Such a young age. Alice Kinsella, just a few hours ago, but the silver
:19:56. > :20:00.medal in the bin. After already achieving a fifth in the all-around
:20:01. > :20:04.that she did not stop as far as the apparatus finals, she also got the
:20:05. > :20:09.silver medal on the floor. Coached by the one and only Christine who
:20:10. > :20:17.sits alongside us in the commentary box, wonderful achievement for coach
:20:18. > :20:20.and gymnast. Alistair not necessarily have a great time in the
:20:21. > :20:26.British Championships but she took time to go back into gym work and
:20:27. > :20:31.work on her skills and it shows she can have bad day the office. But
:20:32. > :20:37.it's fantastic. She will make that step up to senior level next year.
:20:38. > :20:43.Coming through, it's also exciting but on to the beam we go, Becky
:20:44. > :20:48.Downie will be up in seventh position, you can see. The
:20:49. > :20:54.remaining, the former Olympic champion kicking things off. Aliya
:20:55. > :21:00.Mustafina, the former champion there as well. Here is what happened with
:21:01. > :21:11.the best of the beam. The former Olympic champion on beam.
:21:12. > :21:22.One of the most beautiful bin workers over the years. Smooth, she
:21:23. > :21:31.works with such speed. -- beam. Arms working and moving all the time.
:21:32. > :21:32.Exactly what the judges need to see. Rounding off, straight back
:21:33. > :21:49.somersault. Controlling the landing. Very nice, change leg leap with half
:21:50. > :21:54.term. Gymnasts have to include at least three leaps or spins in their
:21:55. > :22:03.difficulty. This is super. She misses that connection.
:22:04. > :22:10.Lovely layout somersault, smooth, not a flicker. She made that
:22:11. > :22:15.connection, the free walkover into the jumps.
:22:16. > :22:24.Gymnasts have to show artistry and fluency. Another little connection
:22:25. > :22:28.missed. She did the leap and then... The handstand. She would normally
:22:29. > :22:33.try and hold that handstand and swivel around.
:22:34. > :22:43.Big dismount... Double pike... Very secure routine but it won't be quite
:22:44. > :22:50.as high on the difficulty score as for qualification. Probably not but
:22:51. > :22:52.it was stable. Super work, look at that. The layout, does well to
:22:53. > :23:08.control it. Flick, into layout somersault. But
:23:09. > :23:14.as her schoolwork. The others will chase that. -- that is her score.
:23:15. > :23:22.The French gymnast next. She could challenge here. The first
:23:23. > :23:42.outing for the French. Simple start. We can see the Randolphe into the
:23:43. > :23:49.layout. A split leap and again... Slight
:23:50. > :24:04.adjustment. Straight into free walkover and
:24:05. > :24:24.again... Again... Nice control, full spin one way,
:24:25. > :24:31.then the other, had to make a slight adjustment.
:24:32. > :24:51.Nice rhythm so far. Needs to hang on. Rounding off, double pike. It of
:24:52. > :24:57.adjustment. Super from the young French girl. If she can get up into
:24:58. > :25:01.mid-14 that will definitely challenge for a medal. Difficulty
:25:02. > :25:13.scoring qualification is 6.1, we have seen Catalina Ponor are with a
:25:14. > :25:19.5-.9. Steady gymnast. We have seen her work very well in the team
:25:20. > :25:26.competition. For the French. Strong gymnast, lovely technique. Landing,
:25:27. > :25:31.immediately jumps, quite unusual to do to spins, you get a bonus if you
:25:32. > :25:41.can link them and a lovely dismount, the Cal hi her chest is on landing.
:25:42. > :25:50.Very nice work. She has gone ahead! Look at the difficulty. She has
:25:51. > :25:57.increased that. A very eager wait to find out if she has a medal.
:25:58. > :26:08.Aliya Mustafina has the pedigree on beam, world champion three years
:26:09. > :26:14.ago. European beam finalist, will she get a medal today? Such an
:26:15. > :26:24.elegant, classical gymnast. This is usually beautiful. So smoothly out
:26:25. > :26:29.of the double spin. That is a letter D difficulty element, just a tiny
:26:30. > :26:39.wobble. Linking the leaps and jumps nicely. Gymnasts have to do a little
:26:40. > :26:42.bit of sideways stands, a tiny wobble, changing immediately, very
:26:43. > :26:47.nicely performed, she will get the bonus for those linking moves.
:26:48. > :26:59.Most of the aerial moves are worth point four. Free walkover is.
:27:00. > :27:08.Backflip. That is her acrobatic series.
:27:09. > :27:20.The judges have to judge whether the foot touched the head. She has been
:27:21. > :27:26.smooth... And very controlled. Big, long pause... For the dismount. Has
:27:27. > :27:32.to be dynamic. Double tough... What a beautiful landing. She has thrown
:27:33. > :27:37.down the challenge, that will be a big score. She is a class act, that
:27:38. > :27:46.was mesmerising. Very elegant performance. She made a connection
:27:47. > :27:52.that she can't possibly have used before. Not often we see her smiling
:27:53. > :27:55.but she is full of them today. I think she wanted to put the bars
:27:56. > :28:00.behind her even though she picked up a bronze. That double spin, such
:28:01. > :28:05.precision, the three element connection. The walkover into the
:28:06. > :28:16.flick, building up the connection values. The change leg ring...
:28:17. > :28:21.Touching the back of the head? And why into the dismount. Her knees are
:28:22. > :28:30.locked together, if they open their legs, it could be a 10th or three
:28:31. > :28:32.tenths abduction. A huge score... Not often you see a beam routine
:28:33. > :28:44.over 15. Good job! It is now the turn of the British
:28:45. > :28:48.beam champion, Rebecca Downie. Already crowned the bars champion
:28:49. > :28:55.today but what does the beam have in store? We saw how much that bars
:28:56. > :29:01.title meant to Becky, full of emotion. It will have been quite a
:29:02. > :29:08.challenge to settle down for this. A very nice front somersault. This is
:29:09. > :29:10.the all-important acrobatic series, very difficult. Hold it tight,
:29:11. > :29:28.Becky. She had to fight and make that
:29:29. > :29:38.landing and she did, that is good to see. You can see she is a bit edgy.
:29:39. > :29:49.Very nice. Spin, immediate free walkover. Lovely rhythm today. Side
:29:50. > :29:56.somersault. You can see this routine has all the makings of a really
:29:57. > :30:05.high-scoring peace. Change leg ring right at the end. Now... Has she got
:30:06. > :30:10.enough power and energy left? Double pike... She does. Well done, a bit
:30:11. > :30:17.of a battling performance but very impressive. She pushed for all of
:30:18. > :30:24.the difficulty and she managed to hang on in. Great performance. That
:30:25. > :30:27.was nice, sometimes you have fighting routines, this is what we
:30:28. > :30:33.give credit for. She had to fight every little bit. You can see this,
:30:34. > :30:37.the back leg off to the side, but wobble at the end but she could have
:30:38. > :30:42.quite easily given up and follow not but she was determined.
:30:43. > :30:53.She will lose 0.5 for that, so the score will not be massive but in
:30:54. > :30:54.view of how much emotion she had expended on the bars, she did really
:30:55. > :31:12.well, I think. And finished off with a double pike
:31:13. > :31:27.at the end. 14.066 for Becky Downie and it is met with a huge smile. The
:31:28. > :31:32.last gymnast in this final on the beam, Angela Melnikova, still just
:31:33. > :31:47.15 years old. The future star of the Russian team, for me. Great 2.5
:31:48. > :31:58.spin, there, really difficult. Good on the leap, nice to see some
:31:59. > :32:07.originality within the work. Flick, flick, straight back, just a little
:32:08. > :32:27.and adjustment. The series. Top front somersault. Good, head right
:32:28. > :32:34.back. The walk over. Nice tempo to the routine. Another side
:32:35. > :32:44.somersault. The gymnast must go forward, backwards and sideways.
:32:45. > :32:50.Standing this up, and high into the double pike, did well to recover the
:32:51. > :32:54.landing with the big jump forward, might be big enough to pull it back
:32:55. > :33:00.for a medal, but not good enough to take Mustafina off the top spot. She
:33:01. > :33:07.has got a great degree on beam, but she was a little bit edgy. From that
:33:08. > :33:12.angle, that looked like a better leap. Shame about this dismount. It
:33:13. > :33:16.will be quite a big deduction. She opened out just a little bit early,
:33:17. > :33:26.you can see how the shoulders were down. That will be at least 0.5.
:33:27. > :33:35.Goodness me, 14.1 66. She finishes in fifth. Down on the difficulty. In
:33:36. > :33:46.comparison to Mustafina with a 6.3 on the difficulty. But what about
:33:47. > :33:52.that for the French gymnast, Marine Boyer? Aliya Mustafina takes the
:33:53. > :34:01.gold, Marine Boyer the 16-year-old takes the silver medal back to
:34:02. > :34:12.France, and Catalina Ponor gets bronze, the former Olympic champion.
:34:13. > :34:16.Becky Downie Allbritton gets six. Interesting, that 3-way tie for
:34:17. > :34:21.sixth place. Beam is the equivalent of the men's pommel horse. Different
:34:22. > :34:27.to the final we saw last week on the pommel horse. It looks like the
:34:28. > :34:34.piece that is easiest to pull off but it really is hit or miss. Only
:34:35. > :34:40.three people stayed on in the pommel horse final and yet everyone stayed
:34:41. > :34:46.on on the beam final. You don't want to win something by somebody falling
:34:47. > :34:52.off. For all four apparatus finals the best are out there, and if you
:34:53. > :35:02.win, you're beating everyone that you could. You missed a brilliant
:35:03. > :35:07.moment just now. It has been a while since you have done beam, and you
:35:08. > :35:13.went, 6th of June. 6th of June 2000 and eight. It was a momentous day. I
:35:14. > :35:19.am never getting back on that thing again. Of all of the question pieces
:35:20. > :35:25.of apparat is, beam is... For me, it was always a nightmare, with the
:35:26. > :35:32.other apparat is you have a little bit of leeway to play with. For most
:35:33. > :35:37.gymnast standing thinking I have got ten centimetres of beam to stay on,
:35:38. > :35:41.it is not a nice place to be. The floor is more your thing. It is the
:35:42. > :35:46.last final of these championships, one of the many places that Claudia
:35:47. > :35:53.Fragapane made her mark two years ago in Glasgow. She got a quartet of
:35:54. > :36:00.gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and now the pocket rocket has
:36:01. > :36:01.her sights set on Rio. You are from Bristol but you have an Italian
:36:02. > :36:21.background. How is your Italian? SHE SPEAKS FLUENT ITALIAN. How are
:36:22. > :36:25.you feeling with the Olympics coming closer? It is a little bit nerve
:36:26. > :36:30.wracking. It is quite exciting to be able to see how close it is to
:36:31. > :36:38.making the team and representing your country. Did you always want to
:36:39. > :36:44.be a gymnast? Since I was about six years old, because my two older
:36:45. > :36:49.sisters used to do it and I love it. The competition in the girls' squad
:36:50. > :36:52.is tough, isn't it? Yes, really tough, we are battling it out to do
:36:53. > :36:57.the best performance we can to make sure that we are on the team. We are
:36:58. > :37:03.rivals but we are good friends, anyway. What would you be if you are
:37:04. > :37:10.not the gymnast? I would like to be diving. But I can't swim. I am good
:37:11. > :37:16.in the air, but I would not be able to get back out! How are you with
:37:17. > :37:22.the floor routine at the moment? I just want to go out and hit my
:37:23. > :37:28.routine as best I could. And to look back and see that I have got 15
:37:29. > :37:38.personal bests, I could not believe it. What a World Championships it
:37:39. > :37:52.has been for Claudia Fragapane. And you do not like to be called
:37:53. > :37:58.Maccadee. No, it is the way that it is spelt an Italian that I prefer.
:37:59. > :38:08.We will just see how it goes. Thank you very much. Grazie Mile! She
:38:09. > :38:13.seems to have this remarkable energy and joy. She is such a light-hearted
:38:14. > :38:20.character. It rubs off on her team-mates. She brings the stress
:38:21. > :38:23.off of everyone, makes everyone sit back and enjoy everything that is
:38:24. > :38:29.going on. The conundrum is how difficult you go. With Becky Downie
:38:30. > :38:37.it paid off to push for the difficulty. And Claudia Fragapane is
:38:38. > :38:41.up there with the difficulty. She has upgraded even more with adding a
:38:42. > :38:47.couple of jumps out of the big tumble, so not just straight with
:38:48. > :38:52.the full twist but then I jump out of it, which is a little bit insane.
:38:53. > :38:56.And the music is a big part of the routine on the floor. The kind of
:38:57. > :39:00.music you prefer that delivers the best performance as far as the
:39:01. > :39:09.judges are concerned? It depends on the style of the gymnast. Claudia
:39:10. > :39:14.uses music with somebody popping in it that gets the crowd going. If you
:39:15. > :39:18.have a gymnast, we saw a couple ended been finals that were very
:39:19. > :39:24.elegant and balletic, if they have a dramatic piece of music, it would
:39:25. > :39:26.not suit them as much. The gymnast and the coach will make that
:39:27. > :39:33.decision along with the choreographer. And there is a switch
:39:34. > :39:39.from that dance element into what are remarkably powerful tumbles.
:39:40. > :39:44.Yes, you see some even bigger ones on the men's side, it is amazing how
:39:45. > :39:50.powerful that the gymnasts are and to switch into the dance element, it
:39:51. > :39:55.is good to see. And if you get behind, you are chasing four other.
:39:56. > :40:01.Let's see what happens. Let's look at the gymnasts that have qualified
:40:02. > :40:06.for this floor final. You can see that Claudia Fragapane is in sixth
:40:07. > :40:13.place, but all eyes will be on the home girl, Giulia Steingruber. Let's
:40:14. > :40:19.see what happens. Here are the highlights.
:40:20. > :40:28.Giulia Steingruber has had a bronze medal twice at the European
:40:29. > :40:31.Championships on floor and has posted the highest floor score
:40:32. > :40:40.during these championships of all the gymnasts in this final. Very
:40:41. > :40:49.athletic but also graceful. You have to have a good leaps and this
:40:50. > :40:54.gymnast certainly has. What opening tumble will we see Chris macro
:40:55. > :41:08.double double, just a little step forward, huge difficulty. -- what
:41:09. > :41:13.opening tumble will we see? Five difficult acrobatic moves. And
:41:14. > :41:25.another one, the twisting double straight. She really has pushed up
:41:26. > :41:28.the difficulty. The third big leap. Is she going to do double straight
:41:29. > :41:45.in the third? The twisting double back.
:41:46. > :42:03.Expressive in that elite series. She moves powerfully across the floor.
:42:04. > :42:16.What a routine! Have we just seemed a winning performance? Time will
:42:17. > :42:20.tell. It has got to be over 15. In qualification she did double
:42:21. > :42:24.straight with full twist. Second conversation she did double twisting
:42:25. > :42:33.double back and in the third, she put them both in for the first time
:42:34. > :42:39.that I have seen. She has upgraded, definitely. This was the time to try
:42:40. > :42:44.it. She knows that she has to upgrade. She is level pegging with
:42:45. > :42:51.Fragapane, but she wants to try and have that of an advantage going into
:42:52. > :42:55.this final. It is great to see that she does the double double at the
:42:56. > :43:01.beginning and a very clean landing. Just very slightly chest down, then
:43:02. > :43:06.to go straight back into that double straight with a full twist. And she
:43:07. > :43:11.looked like she was enjoying the routine at the same time. She really
:43:12. > :43:15.sold it to the judges and the crowd were clapping along. A great
:43:16. > :43:21.routine. You can see her smiling, doing the leaps. Lots of gymnasts
:43:22. > :43:27.struggle to combine the power and grace and what she does
:43:28. > :43:30.exceptionally well, she has got double twist, full twist and double
:43:31. > :43:37.straight, so she has got the difficulty but she combines that
:43:38. > :43:45.with such a good routine. The judges are turning round and watching that
:43:46. > :43:51.routine. It was beautiful. 15.2, and a leap in the air from Giulia
:43:52. > :43:59.Steingruber. 6.4, the difficulty score. That is going to be very
:44:00. > :44:07.difficult to beat. Let's welcome a former European champion from 2004,
:44:08. > :44:17.the Olympic champion, three Olympics ago, Catalina Ponor. She's here
:44:18. > :44:28.after that bronze medal winning performance on beam. Beautiful in
:44:29. > :44:40.the double layout. Great extension. Great flick, fling back out, pike,
:44:41. > :44:52.good difficulty work. Lovely choreography. Good in a spin. Very
:44:53. > :45:15.dramatic. Working so well with the music,
:45:16. > :45:38.keeping the rhythm and power. Little adjustment.
:45:39. > :45:49.She must hang on, standing up into the double pike... What a response!
:45:50. > :45:56.Super difficulty, fantastic execution, posting a six difficulty
:45:57. > :46:07.in qualification. What does the future hold? For Catalina Ponor are.
:46:08. > :46:15.Well... Really maintaining her great dynamic tumbling. Lovely style, this
:46:16. > :46:23.double straight... The bounds out is a .1 deduction. So fast across the
:46:24. > :46:31.floor. The triple twist... She will lose marks. Her legs are crossed,
:46:32. > :46:41.the judges will deduct for that. Second, as it stands. All eyes in
:46:42. > :46:45.the arena on Claudia Fragapane A, the Commonwealth champion, the
:46:46. > :46:58.highest qualifier. She is capable of a difficulty score of 6.5. A chance
:46:59. > :47:01.here. So exciting to watch, original, dynamic. Straight into
:47:02. > :47:16.the, great start. Loving the music. Double pike
:47:17. > :47:24.Arabian, does well to control and stay inside the floor.
:47:25. > :47:31.The leap series, such as bouncy and bubbly, energetic performer. Stacks
:47:32. > :47:53.of originality. Great dancing. Got to hang on and control the
:47:54. > :48:05.power. Triple twist... Slight adjustment there. Craftily done.
:48:06. > :48:14.Got to hold on for this... Usually a double layout... And again... Knees
:48:15. > :48:24.buckling a bit on landing, that will be costly. Packed with difficulty.
:48:25. > :48:29.She had a goal. A very good effort. Is it enough to get up into the
:48:30. > :48:36.medals? Very dependent on whether those knees touch the floor, if they
:48:37. > :48:42.did, it will be a fall, she gave it everything but looked a little bit
:48:43. > :48:48.weary, big competition last night. Very big and asked to try and finish
:48:49. > :48:56.with a double straight. She has really upped her difficulty. She
:48:57. > :48:59.jumped out of it but struggled to control, she did so well to stay
:49:00. > :49:07.inside the floor, there will be deductions.
:49:08. > :49:17.Very cleverly choreographed, jumps and leaps. Third tumble, triple
:49:18. > :49:25.twist, landing, a little bit of a jump, well disguised. This, the
:49:26. > :49:31.final tumble that is all-important. She held it... There will be a
:49:32. > :49:37.deduction, it wasn't a fault. I don't think it will challenge for
:49:38. > :49:42.the title... You can see, she is here disappointed. This is
:49:43. > :49:48.all-important to be able to bang out these routines. This experience will
:49:49. > :49:54.help her, if she wants to get into that Olympic final and challenge for
:49:55. > :49:57.a medal, there is a learning curve. That is the same mistake on the
:49:58. > :50:11.floor routine twice. Third at the moment. Well, the last gymnast to go
:50:12. > :50:18.is Ellie Downie. For Great Britain. We are guaranteed a medal, Claudia
:50:19. > :50:29.is in third. Ellie was the fourth highest qualifier. Can she add to
:50:30. > :50:35.her medal tally today? A powerhouse tumbler. Look at that one and a half
:50:36. > :50:37.walk-out, double Arabian. Jumping out of it. Looks like she can do
:50:38. > :50:48.that. Another big tumble. Double pike
:50:49. > :50:55.Arabian, as to control the landing and she does just that.
:50:56. > :51:15.Clever music. Needs to be powerful and did this. Two and a half twist,
:51:16. > :51:29.punch front, slightly overcooked. Come on, concentrate. Hubble pike...
:51:30. > :51:48.She nailed it! -- double pike. Cheering-macro what a mature
:51:49. > :51:52.performance. Well... Is it going to be enough to go ahead to go ahead of
:51:53. > :52:01.her team-mate? It will all boil down to the difficulty.
:52:02. > :52:05.Ellie had a 14 point in qualification but we know she
:52:06. > :52:12.stepped out of the floor and you can see this, powerful first tumble. One
:52:13. > :52:17.and a half walk-out into the double Arabian, strayed into a jump.
:52:18. > :52:30.Using the Arabian again but in the pike shape, such height. The same
:52:31. > :52:36.tumbles, Beth, that you used. But like Chris said, she has improved
:52:37. > :52:43.her leaps and consistency. A very different floor routine, I really
:52:44. > :52:48.liked the choreography. And then... Musically, two and a half, into the
:52:49. > :52:57.punch front, every gymnast hast to show off for Wade or side salt oh.
:52:58. > :53:06.She did really well in the punch front. That was a part of the
:53:07. > :53:17.routine I sat on the edge of my seat and I thought,, on! Hugely powerful.
:53:18. > :53:26.Work the floor well. And she gets her second silver medal of the day!
:53:27. > :53:34.What about that! Julia Stine Gruber takes the gold. Ellie goes into
:53:35. > :53:44.silver. Catalina Ponor takes the bronze. Claudia Fragapane eight
:53:45. > :53:46.finishes fourth. Look at the top half of the table. Julia Stine
:53:47. > :53:59.Gruber taking the gold. Claudia just outside of the medals
:54:00. > :54:04.and forth. Great Britain's Ellie Downie gets her second silver medal
:54:05. > :54:09.of the European Championships. This is for the floor. What a week to
:54:10. > :54:16.round-off the European Championships. Definitely wasn't
:54:17. > :54:20.expecting that. I wanted to go out and enjoy it the best I could,
:54:21. > :54:25.qualified and forth, I knew to go out there and do it, my first senior
:54:26. > :54:29.European Tour final, I enjoyed it, to come second, the icing on the
:54:30. > :54:35.cake. You won a medal earlier on the vault, did you go in without
:54:36. > :54:40.pressure? I went in there, trying to enjoy it, to think it was the last
:54:41. > :54:50.routine of the competition, I was last of, I went out and did my best.
:54:51. > :54:55.A word for your big sister, her gold medal... Amazing performance, so
:54:56. > :55:01.proud of her. Those sisters are celebrating. Goodness, you forget
:55:02. > :55:07.she is just 16. You see her talking, so much confidence. We have talked
:55:08. > :55:12.about her for so long, you forget she is in her second year of the
:55:13. > :55:17.seniors. 17 later this year, her skill level, talent, the way she
:55:18. > :55:23.composes herself other major championships, that is something you
:55:24. > :55:30.cannot teach. Dan, and impressive medal table, we can show you the
:55:31. > :55:36.totals. Seven in all across the two weekends of gymnastics. Three for
:55:37. > :55:44.the men, four for the women, a European champion each! But very
:55:45. > :55:50.impressive. Just another word on the bars, Becky. She has regained that
:55:51. > :55:56.bars European title in very impressive style. She has... She had
:55:57. > :56:01.a game to play today, does she play safe and is guaranteed a medal or
:56:02. > :56:05.does she go for the upgrade? Her coach, they decided to go for the
:56:06. > :56:10.upgrade. One of the highest tariffs in the world. You wouldn't have
:56:11. > :56:15.known she was upgrading, the rest of the routine was so clean and sharp.
:56:16. > :56:21.This is where she added the extra release and catch. And she finished
:56:22. > :56:29.off with this dismount, she knows so well. That is the end for her.
:56:30. > :56:32.European champion. We have talked about the younger gymnasts coming
:56:33. > :56:36.through but when it is your sister... It's completely different.
:56:37. > :56:44.Obviously, she will support her sister. To improve as a nation you
:56:45. > :56:48.need younger girls and boys coming up. Pushing the seniors as much as
:56:49. > :56:53.you don't like to admit it. That is how you improve. Speaking about
:56:54. > :56:57.European competition, the Euros are less than a week away. To get you
:56:58. > :57:03.prepped for that... There is a documentary tonight.
:57:04. > :57:21.But, I tell you what, after the European Championships we will be
:57:22. > :57:23.treated to some wonderful sport because it's the Olympics and time
:57:24. > :57:45.is ticking! Jessica Ennis Hill is back on top of
:57:46. > :57:51.the world. He wins the gold. Nicole Adams has just made history! That is
:57:52. > :58:01.a huge jump. Laura Trott... World champion. Streaking away.
:58:02. > :58:08.Gymnasts, get home from Switzerland and start prepping. As far as you're
:58:09. > :58:14.concerned, what is key before the Olympics? Consolidating the
:58:15. > :58:18.routines. That was precise. Dan... Get back in the gym and try to
:58:19. > :58:22.repeat all the skills that have gone wrong, to make them consistent.
