:00:49. > :00:56.A good afternoon and welcome to coverage of the European gymnastics
:00:57. > :01:00.champ sthip. A sport which Britain have been well known for. It is
:01:01. > :01:05.difficult to put into words what happened in Rio last summer. So we
:01:06. > :01:18.will let the gymnastics do the talking. Medal and medal. What an
:01:19. > :01:26.Olympics Great Britain have had. Let's get ready to tumble and fly
:01:27. > :01:36.with gymnastics. Stylish gymnast, starts off cleanly. He has to go for
:01:37. > :01:48.broke. Beautifully performed. Big release. Goodlad. Wow, what a
:01:49. > :02:09.routine. Looking very at home. What a cool customer. Niall Wilson makes
:02:10. > :02:17.history. The Briony Paige wins. Amy Tinkler. The Olympic champion. Well
:02:18. > :02:25.done Lewis. He takes silver. Max Whit lock is now a double Olympic
:02:26. > :02:30.champion. What an Olympics Great Britain have had. Quite something.
:02:31. > :02:35.Quite something wasn't it? There is plenty more to talk about from the
:02:36. > :02:43.last 24 hours at the European Championships in Cluj in Romania and
:02:44. > :02:48.I'm joined by greatness, with Beth Tweddle and Kristian Thomas. Happy
:02:49. > :02:56.memories from the summer? Yes, it seems so long ago and watching that
:02:57. > :03:01.back you get the shivers going up and down your spine, the opportunity
:03:02. > :03:06.to see how special that was for British gymnastics. It was
:03:07. > :03:11.fantastic. I'm saying sitting there watching it, you're not competing,
:03:12. > :03:18.it is evidence the British team has taken on a different shape since
:03:19. > :03:22.Rio. Yes, most of the lads there, as with myself, yeah, everybody's just
:03:23. > :03:28.regaining a bit of their training and their strength work they had
:03:29. > :03:31.lost with having time off. We are at a point where they're building up
:03:32. > :03:38.slowly and staying away from injuries. So Here is who has
:03:39. > :03:52.qualified. Would you have expected the lads to
:03:53. > :03:57.do that well, relatively new faces? Absolutely. Because I have had the
:03:58. > :04:01.privilege of training with some of these guys, I have seen what they're
:04:02. > :04:06.capable of. It is a great opportunity to show case their
:04:07. > :04:16.gymnastics, I wasn't surprised they made the finals and I'm looking
:04:17. > :04:27.forward to seeing what they can do. Now Beth the women's team.
:04:28. > :04:36.Alice Kinsella a new face. Great qualification. It was and I think
:04:37. > :04:47.that we have a mixture of youth and experience. Eilie is still so young.
:04:48. > :04:51.We have three of our members of Rio and that will give Alice the
:04:52. > :04:54.confidence that knowing that she is competing with those guys and if
:04:55. > :04:58.there is any issues, she can talk to them and they know what is expected.
:04:59. > :05:02.It is quite something that the seniors can have the ability to take
:05:03. > :05:07.a rest and yet let those others come through. With the usual crew
:05:08. > :05:12.stepping aside the door is open for other members of British squad to
:05:13. > :05:15.make their mark on Europe. So let's meet two men grasping that
:05:16. > :05:22.opportunity in their first major senior competition. 21-year-old
:05:23. > :05:28.James Hall and 18-year-old Joe Fraser. How much are you enjoying
:05:29. > :05:31.being here as part of senior team? I'm really enjoying being part of
:05:32. > :05:36.senior team. We have all come together as a team and we are all
:05:37. > :05:41.helping each other push through the barriers. James, you have been
:05:42. > :05:49.around the British senior teams for a long time now, you have been
:05:50. > :05:55.reserve in some big competition, now you're out there, what's it been
:05:56. > :06:01.like. It was hard to predict what it would feel like, I was expecting to
:06:02. > :06:07.be supported by everyone and for it to go smoothly. It didn't feel any
:06:08. > :06:11.different from the British Championships, nerves - wise. I did
:06:12. > :06:15.my job and it paid off. You did well at the British Championships as
:06:16. > :06:20.well? Yes from the British Championships for me was quite an
:06:21. > :06:25.experience, because I became British champion and that is something that
:06:26. > :06:30.we didn't expect to happen to be honest, because we just wanted to
:06:31. > :06:33.try some new elements and see how I broke into the senior team. But to
:06:34. > :06:42.come away British champion was a great experience. James Hall, Great
:06:43. > :06:50.Britain. You came third in qualifying for the all-round. How
:06:51. > :06:55.happy are you with that? Very. For my first senior Championships, I
:06:56. > :06:59.wasn't concentrating on what place I was going to finish, I thought get
:07:00. > :07:03.into the all-round final and put on a show and third mrafs is not bad.
:07:04. > :07:08.Will you get to the final, do you give yourself a goal to place. I
:07:09. > :07:13.focus on clean routines and then the result will come after that. How
:07:14. > :07:16.would you rate your chances here of getting into the top three and
:07:17. > :07:20.getting a medal? To be honest, I haven't thought about it too much. I
:07:21. > :07:26.don't want to overthink it as it were. But if I do the same as
:07:27. > :07:33.yesterday, and step it up a notch it's anything is possible. Anything
:07:34. > :07:40.can happen. They're both sounding very relaxed! And we should mention
:07:41. > :07:46.for the scores, those watching will sort of see lower scores than usual,
:07:47. > :07:51.because of the new code? Yes after the Olympics the rules get changed a
:07:52. > :07:55.bit. So they have to rethink their routine and put different
:07:56. > :08:01.requirements no. Normally for the men's all round, when we see them at
:08:02. > :08:07.the Olympics, they were scoring 92 and 91. You will be more to 86 and
:08:08. > :08:12.85. So don't be surprised if the scores are lower. There is an
:08:13. > :08:19.opportunity for lots of gymnasts coming through with the different
:08:20. > :08:26.shape of their routines. The all-round final took place yesterday
:08:27. > :08:30.morning. So let's see how well James Hall and Joe Fraser did. Here are
:08:31. > :08:33.the highlights of men's all-round final and I was in the commentary
:08:34. > :08:49.box. Now to 18-year-old J Fraser from
:08:50. > :08:54.Great Britain. His first senior competition this. His first of six
:08:55. > :09:07.pieces of apparatus. Control at the start. Back up rise
:09:08. > :09:14.to the Maltese. A bit high in the shoulders. But these are big
:09:15. > :09:18.strength moves for a young gymnast. Nice and fluent, the double pike
:09:19. > :09:28.into the double front and much stronger in the back up rise. Slight
:09:29. > :09:32.arm bend there. Good line in the hand sfand. -- stand. Beautiful
:09:33. > :09:43.forward long swing. Showing great control. Has to fight a bit in the
:09:44. > :09:49.backward long swing. Controls it well. Winds up, into the miscount.
:09:50. > :09:55.Double twist and double back. Solid on the landing. Good start. Very
:09:56. > :10:00.good start of the last year he was the European junior all-round bronze
:10:01. > :10:04.medallist. He got a gold on parallel bars and third on pommels as well.
:10:05. > :10:08.So no stranger to this stage if you like. It's just now he's in a
:10:09. > :10:13.different age group, Chris. That's right. It is always a shock to the
:10:14. > :10:17.system when you go up to the seniors when you have been very good in the
:10:18. > :10:23.junior ranks. But he is a very good competitor. He just needs to remain
:10:24. > :10:51.consistent, stay calm and keep going. 13.633 for Joe Fraser.
:10:52. > :11:00.He is the all-round Russian champion. Beautiful start. Full
:11:01. > :11:05.twist, immediate two and a half twist. It is linking the difficult
:11:06. > :11:12.skims that bill your -- skills that build your difficulty. Compact
:11:13. > :11:17.gymnast. And a double twisting double back. Didn't even use the
:11:18. > :11:23.full extent of the floor area. Quite a short run and again a short run.
:11:24. > :11:28.Two and a half. Double twisting front. Packing the difficulties
:11:29. > :11:35.together. This will be a high D score. He is not going to have too
:11:36. > :11:40.shoddy an E score. The D score is for difficulty. The E score is for
:11:41. > :11:42.execution. And his execution, look at the beautifully extended toes and
:11:43. > :11:59.legs. Really stylish. Big last trim twist and that's the
:12:00. > :12:04.way you -- triple twist and that is the way you land a tumble. The
:12:05. > :12:12.second highest qualifier is on song today. That was something special,
:12:13. > :12:23.he did four tumbles back-to-back at the start. Verniaiev, current
:12:24. > :12:28.all-round European champion. He has made the floor final. So prepare for
:12:29. > :12:34.fireworks. But it is going to be performance for performance with him
:12:35. > :12:40.and his competitor. He is being chased. We haven't seen him in this
:12:41. > :12:46.position. Oh, a three and a half twist into a full twisting front.
:12:47. > :12:55.That was a big error. Just shows the pressure. Another fantastic twisting
:12:56. > :13:00.series there. Lovely double twisting, double back. He is in his
:13:01. > :13:05.stride a bit more now. I was about to say we have seen him chasing, but
:13:06. > :13:11.we haven't seen him being chased. It is quite a different feeling. He
:13:12. > :13:20.doesn't really look edgy. I just think he tried to be slightly too
:13:21. > :13:34.perfect. As Craig said, he has done a lot of competitions. He is very
:13:35. > :13:39.slight and strong. Just a little edgy on that landing. He looks
:13:40. > :13:46.strapped actually. Shoulder and ankles. Very nice triple twist to
:13:47. > :13:53.finish. But it says it all on his face, when your first tumble pass
:13:54. > :13:58.has your hand down. It was a huge opening tumble. That fall, he will
:13:59. > :14:11.probably lose a connection bonus. But the rest of the time his routine
:14:12. > :14:19.was back on it. 14.766. It is a huge floor score for Verniaiev. Very much
:14:20. > :14:39.down on his opponent. Here is the leader board.
:14:40. > :14:54.Vern yooif Verniaiev has a lot of work to do in 15th.
:14:55. > :15:02.I don't care how experienced you are, you still be only pressure a
:15:03. > :15:06.little bit. So Verniaiev mixes way to the pommel horse, he has
:15:07. > :15:12.qualified for the pommel horse final in seventh. Here he goes. Excellent
:15:13. > :15:16.single leg work into the hands stand, one of the most difficult
:15:17. > :15:23.pommel horse routines. Up into the handstand with pirouette, slight
:15:24. > :15:28.adjustment, but nothing too major. Picks up nicely into the double leg
:15:29. > :15:32.circle sweep, onto the one handle, that builds the difficulty there.
:15:33. > :15:39.Intricate work between the handles, that is the Russian Wendy swing.
:15:40. > :15:47.Going well, building the difficulty, got to keep the momentum. The travel
:15:48. > :15:52.is really difficult stuff, combines it into the Russian circle on the
:15:53. > :15:59.end. Oh, come on, the forward travel Mike Ellicock a slightly skewed,
:16:00. > :16:05.that is deductible. -- Magyar. A little bit of line but job done. He
:16:06. > :16:15.is through, and that is the main thing! That face said it all! Put
:16:16. > :16:20.your hand guards on and get onto the rings, that is what that face was!
:16:21. > :16:23.He lived with the pressure, a difficult routine, he probably might
:16:24. > :16:28.have felt that he was approaching today able to pull back on
:16:29. > :16:35.difficulty, when you have mucked up your first piece, you know you have
:16:36. > :16:38.to go for it, haven't you? 14.5, Verniaiev looks in a bid of
:16:39. > :16:44.amazement and says, I will have that! Now, thought of qualification
:16:45. > :16:49.in his mind, this was his lowest peace in qualification. He will get
:16:50. > :16:55.through, hopefully. Started strong on the single leg work, this is nice
:16:56. > :17:03.to say, the flares with a spindle half turn. He is very square with
:17:04. > :17:10.his hand position, that is a good sign of good pommel work. Really
:17:11. > :17:17.interesting travel, so not only stylish but inventive. A little bit
:17:18. > :17:20.of loss of form, brushing of the horse, so a little bit of strength
:17:21. > :17:26.there. I think you should have done a pirouette on dismount, but I think
:17:27. > :17:36.that will score better than his qualification. 13.366 for Ignatyev.
:17:37. > :17:37.So there we have it, James Hall, confirmation, ahead of Verniaiev,
:17:38. > :17:53.Casimir Schmidt in third. This is the third piece of apparatus
:17:54. > :17:59.of six, so just a reminder, James Hall from Great Britain leading the
:18:00. > :18:08.men's all-around competition. 5.4 on difficulty. Backward rise to the
:18:09. > :18:13.Maltese. A little bit high, nice in the swing, double front, into the
:18:14. > :18:24.Maltese. Nice in the double front, double
:18:25. > :18:35.pike, linked well, back-up to the straddle planche. This is really
:18:36. > :18:40.good, solid work, come on, James! Hang on. Locked out well in the
:18:41. > :18:48.handstand, forward long swing, come on! Hang on! Backward long swing,
:18:49. > :18:59.slight adjustment, but controlled it well. Double twisting double back,
:19:00. > :19:04.get in, son, have some of that! Well, he has got just over half a
:19:05. > :19:12.mark on Verniaiev. That was a great performance from James. 13.8, very
:19:13. > :19:19.good FOI James Hall. Cracking competition so far. Davtyan, in
:19:20. > :19:28.fourth at the moment. Just waiting for vault. This is a very important
:19:29. > :19:35.piece of apparatus for Davtyan in fourth, this could catapult him into
:19:36. > :19:39.the medals. And he is renowned on vault, beautiful twist, just
:19:40. > :19:44.slightly offline. Lovely straight body, two and a half twists.
:19:45. > :19:56.Handspring right up into the rafters. You can see why he is a
:19:57. > :20:03.good vaulter. The score is in, 14.833, it is a very big score.
:20:04. > :20:08.Well, Verniaiev now on rings, his third of six pieces of apparatus.
:20:09. > :20:16.Currently in second place behind Great Britain's James Hall. Well,
:20:17. > :20:19.that is a strong start, circles around to the Maltese, flat with the
:20:20. > :20:23.rings, that is the position we are looking for, look at that, shoulders
:20:24. > :20:32.and body level. And into the crucifix. This gymnast has it all on
:20:33. > :20:37.this piece of apparatus, for me, strength and swing, double tuck,
:20:38. > :20:48.double pike. Into crucifix, that is strong work. 6 difficulty, so one of
:20:49. > :20:56.the stronger competitors. No mistake in the back-up rise. Locks out the
:20:57. > :20:59.handstand. Swings forward, this is good, classy work, waits for the
:21:00. > :21:06.dismount, double twisting double back, nails it! Verniaiev is on the
:21:07. > :21:10.money! Well, that is why he is the current all-around European
:21:11. > :21:15.champion, doing everything he can to try to retain that title. He is
:21:16. > :21:19.fighting hard, he is not about to roll over. He might have made a
:21:20. > :21:26.mistake previously, but this was beautiful work. 14.700 on the rings!
:21:27. > :21:33.There you go, he has gone ahead of Great Britain's James Hall.
:21:34. > :21:39.Confirmation that Davtyan leads halfway around, ahead of Verniaiev,
:21:40. > :21:41.James Hall in third, with Ignatyev in fourth, Joe Fraser in seventh at
:21:42. > :21:57.the moment for Great Britain. Artur Dalaloyan was leading at the
:21:58. > :22:05.first piece of apparatus, dropped down to tenth, now in fifth, a score
:22:06. > :22:10.of 14.900 in qualification, so we might see a score over 15 from him,
:22:11. > :22:15.Dalaloyan with it all to do, his fourth piece.
:22:16. > :22:25.Good round off, a triple twist, they don't come much better than that!
:22:26. > :22:31.Goodness, we have seen gymnasts not quite get around, that was as clean
:22:32. > :22:39.as a whistle. This guy is built for power, look at this, Yu can go,
:22:40. > :22:47.blocks on, that will score big. 14.933, so very close to the 15
:22:48. > :23:00.mark. Verniaiev qualified fourth for the vault final. Second place at
:23:01. > :23:10.this piece of apparatus is over so, so quickly. He is such a slight
:23:11. > :23:14.gymnast, but so explosive, and he needs to be today - double front
:23:15. > :23:22.with the half turn, that was massive! That was how do answer
:23:23. > :23:25.pressure. Wow! It just hit the roof, didn't it? We were talking about his
:23:26. > :23:31.ability to spot the landings and what have you, but he gives himself
:23:32. > :23:35.so much time in the air to perform his gymnastics. We will be back
:23:36. > :23:48.there shortly for the score, but Davtyan is chalking up for P bars,
:23:49. > :23:54.the current leader. Not one other stronger pieces of apparatus, he
:23:55. > :23:58.will have to work extremely hard. Nice and blighted, the under
:23:59. > :24:05.somersault, that is good work. -- flighted. We don't want to see any
:24:06. > :24:16.bent arms on parallel bars. Somersault, a little bit of a hop
:24:17. > :24:25.around, lift to handstand. That is the swing, half turn, full turn,
:24:26. > :24:29.front up rise. Could just do with a little bit more pace, huge double
:24:30. > :24:34.pike, and enough time to nail the lending role. Not the most difficult
:24:35. > :24:39.piece of apparatus, but very, very clean, keeping the pressure on. He
:24:40. > :24:50.scored 13.633 as far as qualification is concerned, he needs
:24:51. > :25:00.to be up close to the 14s. Verniaiev, 14.700. Ignatyev was in
:25:01. > :25:05.fourth going into this. Oh, a big move backwards! That was the
:25:06. > :25:12.handspring double front without they half turn, so not such a high
:25:13. > :25:19.tariff. 13.700, confirmation for Davtyan. To bring you up to date
:25:20. > :25:24.with Joe Fraser. Lovely early release, caught on straight arms. He
:25:25. > :25:30.is very good only apparatus, full twisting straight, Kovacs, one of
:25:31. > :25:37.the most difficult moves you will see. And then in attack position,
:25:38. > :25:48.times it beautifully. Long gymnast. Nice smooth one armed circle into
:25:49. > :25:53.his close bar work. Pirouettes are good as well, he turns on top of the
:25:54. > :25:59.bar. Winds up for the dismount, here it comes, two twists, double
:26:00. > :26:03.straight. Wow. Very nice work indeed from Joe Fraser. He just hits you
:26:04. > :26:08.with potential, when you watch like that, the style and flair on a piece
:26:09. > :26:14.like Eibar, the British Eibar champion scored 13.8 00. -- I are.
:26:15. > :26:17.This is how things stand at the rotation four with James Hall still
:26:18. > :26:35.in the hunt for a medal. Come on, Verniaiev. World champion.
:26:36. > :26:39.Yeah, this is your piece. Oh, just a joy to watch, two times European
:26:40. > :26:40.champion on this piece of apparatus. He has done them all, European,
:26:41. > :26:54.world and Olympic. And this is a lesson in parallel bar
:26:55. > :27:00.work. Look at that, straight into handstand, arms locked out there,
:27:01. > :27:06.somersault, half turn, to one bar, oh, he had to fight there, an
:27:07. > :27:10.adjustment, but he has got the combination, the Healy turn. Very
:27:11. > :27:16.difficult skill. Look at the height, the transfer from under two over the
:27:17. > :27:25.bars, and again. Virtuoso performance. A little bit dished
:27:26. > :27:33.through the swing on the Healy turn. Have to fight on the struts. Not
:27:34. > :27:38.flawless, by any means, but it has got the difficulty, double front
:27:39. > :27:45.half turn, replicates the vault. Well, the current leader goes
:27:46. > :27:49.through, but how costly will those deductions be as far as his
:27:50. > :27:54.execution is concerned? He managed to hang onto the difficulty. Well,
:27:55. > :28:00.it was a very edgy performance, wasn't it? He struggles to lock out,
:28:01. > :28:08.the whole idea is that you hit your position, hold it strongly, and he
:28:09. > :28:12.made that hard work. So Ignatyev, the second gymnast in his group to
:28:13. > :28:25.go up on parallel bars, he qualified with 14.2 33. Solid start, under
:28:26. > :28:29.somersault into the dip out. Good, clean work on the under somersault,
:28:30. > :28:34.beautiful combination, very difficult, front up rise into the
:28:35. > :28:37.double back somersault, we don't see that. Again, from upper arm in
:28:38. > :28:45.support, two double backs from two starting positions. Nice on the
:28:46. > :28:54.swing, great control. Variety, front up rise oh, double front somersault,
:28:55. > :28:59.high in the air, just lost control and landed! But beautiful parallel
:29:00. > :29:06.bar work, really innovative. Yes, but he is just being a bit unsteady
:29:07. > :29:10.on all his landings. So James Hall from Great Britain, two pieces of
:29:11. > :29:13.apparatus left to go, two more chances to get up into the medals in
:29:14. > :29:20.this men's all-around European final. Well, this is going to be the
:29:21. > :29:31.test for him. His favoured peace, a little bit short on the under
:29:32. > :29:38.somersault. Nice, clean, high flight there. A little bit of a leg split,
:29:39. > :29:45.arching the back, and adjustment, come on, James. A bit of a in the
:29:46. > :29:51.bottom on the Healy turn as well. -- a bit of a. That is better! High in
:29:52. > :29:58.the straddle front, catches into the bent arms support, difficult skill,
:29:59. > :30:09.nice lining handstand. Come on, keep going! Double front, lands it! Very
:30:10. > :30:14.good! Oh it is on, I tell you what - it is on, goodness me, one more
:30:15. > :30:17.piece of apparatus to go, and Chris, under that kind of pressure, I do
:30:18. > :30:22.not know if he could have done it much better!
:30:23. > :30:33.Well Joan James, he is a lovely guy. He was the reserve in 2015 and that
:30:34. > :30:38.was a great performance. Fabulous, really thrilled for him. Just one
:30:39. > :30:51.more piece to go, James, hang on in there! The next gymnast up is
:30:52. > :31:02.Dalaloyan. James scored 14.16 6. Dalaloyan is just over a mark behind
:31:03. > :31:11.Verniaiev. A strong start. That is good flight. Positive hand
:31:12. > :31:17.placement. High in the front somersault. Clean catch. This is
:31:18. > :31:23.good parallel bar work. Good extension. You see a few piking
:31:24. > :31:32.that, but that was very solid. Accurate with the hand placements.
:31:33. > :31:41.Straight up to hand stand. This is good work. Needs to hang on. Big
:31:42. > :31:45.front up rise. A little adjustment. But well solid and constructed
:31:46. > :31:49.routine. He is the last one in the pack to go. So we will get a good
:31:50. > :31:59.idea of standings hopefully after that. He is a very impressive young
:32:00. > :32:08.jam nas. -- gymnast. He creates lot of energy. Zippy! Is the word, yes!
:32:09. > :32:22.So this is a big performance. Very big.
:32:23. > :32:37.There is two pieces of apparatus to go for them. That was smooth. That
:32:38. > :32:49.counts as your release and recatch. Nice turn. That was a little offhand
:32:50. > :32:56.stand that shoot out. The half turn. Not so difficult. We haven't seen
:32:57. > :33:00.any big releases. Here we come just a double twisting, double tap
:33:01. > :33:04.dismount. Nicely performed but that will not carry so much difficulty as
:33:05. > :33:10.many of the routines we have seen. And there was only just 0.1 between
:33:11. > :33:14.him and James Hall in fourth. So James should go ahead of him. But
:33:15. > :33:23.will he stay in fourth or can he get into the medals? We will find out
:33:24. > :33:34.shortly. 13.16 6. He will drop way out there.
:33:35. > :33:44.Davatyan has dropped into fifth. Looking good for James Hall.
:33:45. > :34:07.This is the final rotation of men's European all-round final. Chasing a
:34:08. > :34:12.medal. That was a good turn. Full twist in the straight somersault
:34:13. > :34:25.over the bar. And in the tuck position. Super straight, swings out
:34:26. > :34:32.well. Lovely turn on top of the bar. One arm circle, doesn't faulter in
:34:33. > :34:39.the swing. But the pirouette was late. He has given a few marks to
:34:40. > :34:44.the judges. Much cleaner that time. So here we go, big dispount, the two
:34:45. > :34:51.twists. That was a strong challenge. He has laid down the gauntlet there.
:34:52. > :34:57.My word. He has indeed. That is definitely the performance to beat
:34:58. > :35:03.for a medal. Big on the difficulty, but also room for lots of execution
:35:04. > :35:16.deductions. Didn't give much away on the dismount, did he? No. Ignatyev
:35:17. > :35:21.there. Get the calculators out now. Now the final piece of apparatus.
:35:22. > :35:37.13.4 to stay ahead. All of that training boils down to
:35:38. > :35:46.this one routine. This all-round final. James Hall for Great Britain
:35:47. > :35:52.going for a medal. You have go for it. Here you can see him start the
:35:53. > :35:56.big series. Oh and he caught. Full twist in the straight position. He
:35:57. > :36:03.has got another one of these. Without the twist this time. And
:36:04. > :36:11.another with the twist. In the tuck shape. Must pirouette as well now.
:36:12. > :36:17.Squat with the full turn. Has to show the different grips. He has
:36:18. > :36:25.done that so far. The coach anxiously by. Full pirouette. Her
:36:26. > :36:31.here comes the dismount. Double twist. Double straight. Well done,
:36:32. > :36:38.James, wh a fantastic performance. All round six pieces. Wow! Really
:36:39. > :36:42.hats off to you. Well, he wore his heart on his sleeve there. He went
:36:43. > :36:49.all out and if you're going to go out and win yourself a medal, that
:36:50. > :36:55.is how you do it. There is a couple of times his hand was on so late, I
:36:56. > :36:58.thought he was off the bar. But yur right, hoe just went for -- but
:36:59. > :37:08.you're right he went for everything. And he only needs 13.4 to go up
:37:09. > :37:20.there. Relief. Job done. 14.1 for James Hall. Now Dalaloyan. This has
:37:21. > :37:28.to be perfect to stay ahead of James. Lovely first recatch. Two
:37:29. > :37:33.super somersaults over the bar. Just as on parallel bars, he is a gymnast
:37:34. > :37:42.with lots of energy. Lovely turn in hand stands. Huge, straight. Extends
:37:43. > :37:48.the feet behind him. Lovely full turn into the hand stand position.
:37:49. > :37:58.Hop over the bar. He also is going for broke here. Lovely style, those
:37:59. > :38:06.legs locked together. Turn into the forward grip. Swinging full turn.
:38:07. > :38:16.Just needs a good, strong dismount. Here is comes, two twichs - twists
:38:17. > :38:20.and a well landed dismount. You can see him relishing in that pressure,
:38:21. > :38:25.which says a lot about him as a gymnast. So chasing Verniaiev, he
:38:26. > :38:31.wants to stay ahead of James Hall as well. But what a competition he has
:38:32. > :38:42.had. One slight hiccup in the middle. But your going to get that.
:38:43. > :38:46.One last gymnast to go. 14.4 then for Dalaloyan. He has definitely got
:38:47. > :38:53.silver, but James Hall is guaranteed a bronze. Fantastic. And I think
:38:54. > :39:01.Verniaiev has got his work cut out here. So then the last gymnast, the
:39:02. > :39:08.current all-round champion, looking to retain his title with this high
:39:09. > :39:18.bar routine. He has had one difficult combination successfully
:39:19. > :39:27.performed. Mixed grip. Swings out of it nicely. ? Hand stand, goes t
:39:28. > :39:38.correct way. He maintains the swing so well. Once he relaxes a little.
:39:39. > :39:44.He has been so tense today and edgy. Hen he relaxes, he is such a
:39:45. > :39:51.well-timed gymnast. Come on here, make it to the clean dismount. Just
:39:52. > :39:58.the step. This is going to be very tight. Yeah, he was 0.8 ahead of
:39:59. > :40:05.Dalaloyan going into this. It is going to be close. But we think it's
:40:06. > :40:13.-- enough. I think it is enough as well. He made an error on that turn
:40:14. > :40:17.but managed to regrip his hand. We have watched some of the high bar
:40:18. > :40:24.workers catching close. He understands how to work the high bar
:40:25. > :40:29.and swing it. His in bar work is clean. Might not be his best piece,
:40:30. > :40:35.but I think a well deserved European champion. A big deal to come to try
:40:36. > :40:44.and retain that title. Maybe that was the reason why he wanted to keep
:40:45. > :40:55.going. 14 scored. It is enough. He retains his title. As the finest
:40:56. > :41:01.all-round gymnast in all of Europe. Even with the little adjustments, it
:41:02. > :41:07.was a stylish routine. He just upped it a bit as well. But what about
:41:08. > :41:14.that, James Hall, first major competition for GB, picks up a
:41:15. > :41:20.bronze. Wait and see how Joe Fraser. At 19 might even be in the top ten.
:41:21. > :41:25.What an outing for Great Britain. There is your top three. James
:41:26. > :41:33.hasn't got a flag! Get up there, son. Just hold up your track suit
:41:34. > :41:37.top! That will do! I'm not saying he wasn't expected to win! But that
:41:38. > :41:47.will do. Confirmation of the results of the the all-round final.
:41:48. > :41:56.If it was a man of the match, it has got to be Joe Fraser. I don't know
:41:57. > :42:02.what he had or the breakfast. It must have been porridge. James Hall
:42:03. > :42:07.at twenty one, gets his opportunity in is in men's all-round final and
:42:08. > :42:15.he makes his mark with a bronze medal. I'm trying to compose myself,
:42:16. > :42:21.I can't believe it. Third place, I have been to World Cups and I have
:42:22. > :42:26.always hit fourth, fifth or sixth. To come to a European Championships
:42:27. > :42:35.and do my best and come away third, it's... I can't get my head around
:42:36. > :42:41.it. Sum up the season so far. Speechless. I'm speechless. Me and
:42:42. > :42:45.James, it is our first senior major and this is not something we
:42:46. > :42:48.expected to do. When we have come here and showed the whole of Europe
:42:49. > :42:56.that we are about and what we are capable of. We are just so happy.
:42:57. > :42:59.Looking further ahead, it is World Championship, no Max Whit lock, you
:43:00. > :43:04.will think you have staked a claim to be in the team? 100%. They're
:43:05. > :43:13.great gymnasts, but they have got their work cut out and I'm chasing
:43:14. > :43:18.them. You can't stop me. A word from you, as the captain of the British
:43:19. > :43:24.team, how proud you must be and what you think it means for James. Yes, I
:43:25. > :43:28.think from start to finish he looked so calm and composed from every
:43:29. > :43:32.apparatus and got stronger and stronger as the competition went on.
:43:33. > :43:37.I think for him, this sort of competition is going to lift his
:43:38. > :43:43.confidence and his motivation to get back in the gym. Do you think he has
:43:44. > :43:49.needed that? He has been plugging away and this is his opportunity.
:43:50. > :43:55.Now he needs to build on this. I've full faith he will. Beth, he is only
:43:56. > :44:03.21. It feels like he has been around for a long time. But this could be
:44:04. > :44:10.his chapter. He has always been there or thereabouts, but I just
:44:11. > :44:15.think it the shows what a good position British gymnastics is in to
:44:16. > :44:20.take out the big names and still have that strength in-depth. To come
:44:21. > :44:24.home with a third and a fifth place and Joe is only 18. What do you
:44:25. > :44:30.think it showed about Joe being there? From a competition and
:44:31. > :44:34.composure perspective. To go from that junior to senior can be a big
:44:35. > :44:39.leap and he has done it within 12 months and for some that can be
:44:40. > :44:43.quite overwhelming to walk into a stadium and compete alongside the
:44:44. > :44:49.likes of Verniaiev. He took it in his stride. He has that character
:44:50. > :44:53.that is very chilled out. So I think that's played to his strength and he
:44:54. > :44:57.has been able to go and do his routines as he does in the gym. And
:44:58. > :45:05.Verniaiev, it is quite something to have no rest from Rio, to come out
:45:06. > :45:12.and retain that title snoochlty he just - - He just keeps going and he
:45:13. > :45:14.was under pressure and we saw that where he took the stumble. But he
:45:15. > :45:25.took the title. James polls medal was relatively
:45:26. > :45:30.unexpected, but Ellie Downie made history as the first British gymnast
:45:31. > :45:33.to qualify for all the finals, a lot of pressure and expectation, this is
:45:34. > :45:42.how she was feeling head of these championships.
:45:43. > :45:50.I think I just go out there and feel quite confident in myself now, cos
:45:51. > :45:54.we know how many routines we've done in the gym, how many times we have
:45:55. > :45:57.competed, even if performances do not go to plan, you know that you
:45:58. > :46:01.can do those skills but you just have to put everything aside and
:46:02. > :46:04.concentrate on that, and definitely all these competitions have just
:46:05. > :46:12.helped me go into every other competition. I have always been good
:46:13. > :46:19.at vaults, so I think when I was about 13, I started doing dumb are
:46:20. > :46:24.competing, and I'm 17 now, still doing the same vault, so I think
:46:25. > :46:29.when I go into competition, it is totally second nature, I can just
:46:30. > :46:33.relax. Well, not relax, but I know what I'm doing, I think about
:46:34. > :46:37.sticking the landing. But yeah, vault is my special piece, really.
:46:38. > :46:45.Ever since I was little, I have always done floor tumbles, four, and
:46:46. > :46:48.we have gone down to three, we have upgraded it, my old first tumble is
:46:49. > :46:54.now my second, so we have added some new ones, added a couple more
:46:55. > :46:57.difficult leaps, and I have a new choreography for this year which I
:46:58. > :47:02.really love, the crowd really get involved, and it is different for
:47:03. > :47:05.me. I am not want to perform, as in like facial expressions and stuff,
:47:06. > :47:09.and this time I have to work hard to get that in, and I think it
:47:10. > :47:14.definitely helps, I think the judges and the crowd love it. After Rio, I
:47:15. > :47:19.was not too pleased with my performances, they could have gone a
:47:20. > :47:21.lot better, so probably for about a month I really shot off from
:47:22. > :47:27.gymnastics and took a step back. But as soon as my coach was like, you
:47:28. > :47:31.ready to come back in the gym? Yeah, I am, and I wouldn't say I enjoyed
:47:32. > :47:37.it, but I was looking back to getting back to full fitness,
:47:38. > :47:41.getting on the bars, and I did miss it when I wasn't in the gym. I would
:47:42. > :47:47.probably say I have never enjoy the the -- enjoyed it more than I am
:47:48. > :47:51.now. I worked really well with my coach, having Becky there is even
:47:52. > :47:55.better, and I just think we are really into our training now, which
:47:56. > :48:02.ain't smart, we train well, just to make sure we are as ready as we can
:48:03. > :48:11.be for competitions. -- we train smart, we train well.
:48:12. > :48:18.Got the green light, needs to be something powerful, attacks, yet
:48:19. > :48:23.Janco, double twist, that is a cracking vault right down the
:48:24. > :48:27.middle. Plenty of high corrupting, legs glued together, that is why she
:48:28. > :48:37.was second in the all-around in the qualifications. Hands go quickly to
:48:38. > :48:44.the platform, blocks of lovely and clean, two twists, textbook really,
:48:45. > :48:54.not giving too much away to the judges. 14.600 from Kovacs. You can
:48:55. > :49:05.see the determination in the eyes of Ellie Downie. Nice little smile, but
:49:06. > :49:12.it is down to business. Last few words to herself, come on, Ellie,
:49:13. > :49:21.powerful attack, double twist, what about that?! That has answered the
:49:22. > :49:26.question! Slight adjustment on the landing but absolutely magnificent
:49:27. > :49:31.vaulting. She blocks so well, dead straight arms, launches up into the
:49:32. > :49:44.air, waits for the twist, really cleanly round. 14.566, she is in
:49:45. > :49:50.second at the moment. Dos Santos from France, the gymnast has
:49:51. > :49:54.qualified for the bars final, so she will make everything absolutely
:49:55. > :50:03.right, this is their chance to get her all-around competition off to a
:50:04. > :50:08.flyer. Dos Santos from France, seventh highest qualifier. Starts
:50:09. > :50:17.well from the lower bar, transfers to the high, great stooping
:50:18. > :50:21.Tkatchev, down to the low bar. Good in the handstand, back to the low
:50:22. > :50:30.bar, got to squeeze the back, good turn there, and into the invert,
:50:31. > :50:34.great half turn. Winds up to the dismount, can she hang on? Full
:50:35. > :50:42.twisting double back! Well, what a guest mount! Superstar there on the
:50:43. > :50:47.bars. Well, a very good bar routine, really showed a good variety of
:50:48. > :50:53.skills. One moment in the middle, but she did well to pull it back,
:50:54. > :50:55.Chris. She did indeed, she showed lovely inverse swings. Double
:50:56. > :51:02.straight with full twist, one of the most difficult dismounts you will
:51:03. > :51:37.see. Let's hope we are staying with Alice
:51:38. > :51:41.on the floor, Christine, do you want to talk us through this?
:51:42. > :51:47.LAUGHTER Come on, Alice! Come on, Alice! She
:51:48. > :51:57.did it very well yesterday, just the same, please. Important spin coming
:51:58. > :52:03.up, she needs to control this. That was good. And she starts with a
:52:04. > :52:10.difficult combination tumble. Needs to focus hard, one and a half walk
:52:11. > :52:17.out into the two and a half, nicely landed.
:52:18. > :52:22.Now, this time a triple twist, one of the most difficult tumbles for
:52:23. > :52:33.her. Cleanly done! Now, every gymnast has to include a
:52:34. > :52:40.leap series, this is the leap series, jetee, change league half,
:52:41. > :53:02.into the splits. These days they have to include a
:53:03. > :53:06.forward somersault, just a little hop. Also has to include a double
:53:07. > :53:11.somersault, which she has not done yet. So a big test here, needs to
:53:12. > :53:21.land this double pike well. She does. Well done, Alice, that was a
:53:22. > :53:25.great second piece! What a superb performance, and you have to
:53:26. > :53:30.remember, up until a few days ago, Alice didn't realise she was going
:53:31. > :53:35.to be here! So, I mean, she is doing incredibly well, when you consider
:53:36. > :53:41.that, Chris! Yes, very proud of her, she came out at a moment's notice,
:53:42. > :53:48.no warm up on the podium, just got stuck straight in. 12.800 for Alice
:53:49. > :53:53.Kinsella's floor, happy with that, coach? The same as yesterday, so it
:53:54. > :54:03.must be very consistent! Onto the leader of this competition at the
:54:04. > :54:08.moment, Zsofia Kovacs, the first gymnast to go, Ellie Downie will be
:54:09. > :54:15.next. So start on the lower bar, stoop in, Paul turn, a little bit
:54:16. > :54:21.late, nice release. Down to the low bar, coach hovering, not needed.
:54:22. > :54:30.Back up to the high bar, as do Path, little split of the legs, pipe
:54:31. > :54:35.Jager, France somersault. -- front. Can she hang on for the dismount? A
:54:36. > :54:42.little bit of a stumble on the landing, so that will cost her
:54:43. > :54:47.slightly. But a very good routine. Plenty of difficulty. Felt a little
:54:48. > :54:51.rushed for me, I don't know why, just forcing it? Do you know? I
:54:52. > :54:56.don't think it helps to have the coach hovering, it makes you think
:54:57. > :54:59.she is anxious about it, but a very nice stoop half, changes to its
:55:00. > :55:07.travel position for the dismount, up into a very nice high full twisting
:55:08. > :55:18.double back. Still in the lead, Kovacs, 14.333. And now it is the
:55:19. > :55:26.turn of Ellie Downie. Only four pieces of apparatus, this is the
:55:27. > :55:34.second one. Needs to hold her nerve. Opting to start on the lower bar,
:55:35. > :55:38.nice hop in the handstand, stoop on half turn. Great tip there to the
:55:39. > :55:45.high bar, straight into the clear circle Tkatchev, big, difficult
:55:46. > :55:53.routine. Full turn, into another Tkatchev, straight to the low bar,
:55:54. > :55:58.working well, good in the handstand, there is the half turn, back to the
:55:59. > :56:06.top bar, come on, Ellie! Hold an! Kicks for the dismount, double
:56:07. > :56:11.layout, well done indeed! Very, very strong! Well, she was in second
:56:12. > :56:20.going into this performance. Well done, Ellie! Yes, very, very
:56:21. > :56:24.determined throughout that. I mean, for me it didn't feel like she was
:56:25. > :56:29.in any doubt of coming off there. She has really pleased this routine
:56:30. > :56:33.together well, and she has got a routine that she is comfortable
:56:34. > :56:36.with, really. She is not always so confident on the pirouette skills,
:56:37. > :56:40.which is what his sister is particularly good at, and they have
:56:41. > :56:52.just put one in near the beginning, but that this mount is lovely. --
:56:53. > :56:59.dismount. She is in second half way round. Thorsdottir now, a gymnast
:57:00. > :57:02.with quite a bit of experience at 18 years old, 12th in the last
:57:03. > :57:13.all-around competition here at the Euros. Good line in the handstand on
:57:14. > :57:22.the low bar, lovely from the hide to the low. Handstand nice, transfers
:57:23. > :57:30.with the half turn, full turn into the handstand, very clean.
:57:31. > :57:37.Forward long swing into the straddle France somersault, that is the
:57:38. > :57:41.Jager, back into the handstand. Oh, out of alignment, I think she caught
:57:42. > :57:46.the bottom bar, that just stopped the momentum for that backward long
:57:47. > :57:53.swing. She had done all the hard work, this was a relatively simple
:57:54. > :57:57.link. You looked at the commitment, she was driving through that
:57:58. > :58:02.routine, and it seems so out of character, that moment. Yes, very
:58:03. > :58:06.out of character, because she is a precise gymnast, you can see. Well,
:58:07. > :58:13.she was in third, but I'm afraid, after that,... That is a mark
:58:14. > :58:17.straightaway, back onto the bars for the dismount, a bit late now, but
:58:18. > :58:22.full twisting double back in the tuck position. Well, what a shame
:58:23. > :58:28.for that routine, because after that point, beautiful and elegant. Very
:58:29. > :58:33.much so, and you can see on her face and her coach's face, it is so easy
:58:34. > :58:42.to do, you do the difficult stuff, you think, right, I am there, then
:58:43. > :58:45.something catches you out. Even the easiest thing is difficult if you do
:58:46. > :58:49.not pay attention to it. How do you train for that moment? Hopefully
:58:50. > :58:53.they do and when they are quite young, and you say, remember this
:58:54. > :58:56.day, you will not finish until you are finished, do not pledge of
:58:57. > :59:02.concentration go until you are sitting on the seat waiting for the
:59:03. > :59:11.score. 12.366 is the result of that, 15 years old, Eremina from Russia.
:59:12. > :59:18.Starting on the top bar, straight into handstand, must be something
:59:19. > :59:23.big. Huge straight Tkatchev, down to the lower bar. Back up, a little bit
:59:24. > :59:29.of daylight split on the half turn, but look at the handstand line, that
:59:30. > :59:43.is good. Nice and pace, I into the front, Jager somersault. That looked
:59:44. > :59:49.available later from this angle, dismount will come. Well, classy bar
:59:50. > :59:53.work. Very classy, that is the skill of the championships, the straight
:59:54. > :59:58.Tkatchev here. This is the stoop, and if you do not put your feet on,
:59:59. > :00:00.so it is a stoop, that goes at a level for everything. That was a
:00:01. > :00:17.nice dismount, wasn't it? Eremina 14.3. Into third. This
:00:18. > :00:22.confirmation as it stands, half way round. Not much room between the top
:00:23. > :00:38.two. First up Great Britain, Ellie
:00:39. > :00:47.Downie, currently in second place. This the third piece of four. Just a
:00:48. > :01:00.quiet start. She needs to get her rhythm and keep it.
:01:01. > :01:11.Very nicely through the first somer salt with the split jump. This is
:01:12. > :01:17.the skill that is so hazardous. Yes, she has nailed it. There is still
:01:18. > :01:26.plenty to do. Needs to focus on this leap series. Change leg. Change leg
:01:27. > :01:34.half. And here another very difficult skill, double spin. Oh,
:01:35. > :01:43.well done Ellie, she held on there! You have to join two acrobatic
:01:44. > :02:03.skills. This is our back flip and lay out. Again, she is fighting. Two
:02:04. > :02:08.jumps. One more acrobatic. The free cartwheel Just building for the
:02:09. > :02:13.dismount. Big focus. Make the round off, plant the feet. Two and a half
:02:14. > :02:17.twists. What a great finish. That was excellent. She could have fallen
:02:18. > :02:22.off that double spin as easy as easy. She probably limited it to a
:02:23. > :02:28.0.5 deduction. She fought every step of the way there and she wasn't
:02:29. > :02:39.giving that away. She knows she is very much in contention for a medal.
:02:40. > :02:45.Absolutely. Oh, my word! 13.06 6 and it goes into the lead at the moment.
:02:46. > :02:50.Oh, my word. One piece to go. Floor left for Ellie Downie. Down to the
:02:51. > :02:56.others now. It is and you know she has thrown that down to them.
:02:57. > :03:03.Watching the young French gymnast. A step out of floor! Don't seem to
:03:04. > :03:12.have the music. That is because this was happening just moments ago with
:03:13. > :03:28.Dos Santos on floor. Another unsteady landing.
:03:29. > :03:40.That was a bit low. That is the sort of deduction the judges will make if
:03:41. > :03:52.a leap is a bit low. Straight font, full twisting front. This is very
:03:53. > :04:02.popular this spin in the crouch position as well. You have to
:04:03. > :04:09.include at least three spins and leaps in the eight moves. Super
:04:10. > :04:19.double tack, that was her best landing of the routine.
:04:20. > :04:31.Kim Bui is next to go. Made the bars and the floor finals.
:04:32. > :04:38.She 12.7 in qualification. Very experienced gymnast. Using a very
:04:39. > :04:57.difficult mount. Back flip and Sommer saument. --
:04:58. > :05:02.somer salt. That is our acrobatic series done. Many gymnasts opting
:05:03. > :05:07.for that as a series. Two leaps. They have to join the two leaps. And
:05:08. > :05:14.include the full spin. Passage of dance down on the beam.
:05:15. > :05:31.Another requirement. Such a test of balance and
:05:32. > :05:42.consistency. So important to do every move exactly the same. Each
:05:43. > :05:49.time. Little wobbles. Those are all the marks that add up, the little
:05:50. > :05:55.wobbles are deducted from the 10 execution score. And a relatively
:05:56. > :05:59.quiet dismount. A straight gainer off the end. Much more difficult
:06:00. > :06:06.than it looks, because you have to travel away. A fighting performance.
:06:07. > :06:16.But she will be happy that she finishes without a fall.
:06:17. > :06:24.So Eremina, in third at the moment. Oh, and she is off straightaway. And
:06:25. > :06:29.I'm always amazed when you're such a beautiful gymnast as she is that you
:06:30. > :06:37.use that big mount. Because, look, that is beautiful work. A mount like
:06:38. > :06:46.that is so difficult. Just a little hesitation there. But what a shame.
:06:47. > :06:51.She really is so classy. All the technique is correct. You know, she
:06:52. > :07:00.has dead straight legs. Toes pointed. She is beautifully supple,
:07:01. > :07:05.so her hips are square. Well I'm not sure they would count that, though I
:07:06. > :07:09.was hoping she was hoping for it to be called a full turn and a jump. It
:07:10. > :07:17.was a half and a half turning on the beam. Nice splits leap. She is edgy.
:07:18. > :07:23.Not surprisingly, because having had a fall. There is the change leg leap
:07:24. > :07:30.and the split dump that didn't actual -- jump that didn't actually
:07:31. > :07:41.hit splits. Disappointing performance. Still a lot of very
:07:42. > :07:44.good work and now a big dismount. Lovely triple twist to finish.
:07:45. > :07:50.Beautifully performed. But the damage was done at the beginning.
:07:51. > :07:53.Such a difficult mount to the beam. I like the mount, but you say packed
:07:54. > :08:00.with difficulty. There is the layout. Acrobatic series, more
:08:01. > :08:03.precise on that and you wonder, start with something simpler and
:08:04. > :08:10.build up. She has got the work there and then it made her a bit edgy for
:08:11. > :08:13.the rest of the performance and stands up, big dismount, triple
:08:14. > :08:22.twist. This is is where it will hot up. Kovacs, when you think of the
:08:23. > :08:28.next piece of apparatus and Downie has a half a mark up on difficulty.
:08:29. > :08:32.A mark from qualification. So she is going to have to pull something out
:08:33. > :08:46.of the bag here. Pressure is really on this routine. The leader then.
:08:47. > :08:57.And nice quiet mount. Gets herself on to the beam. Lovely free walk
:08:58. > :09:01.over. Strong. Change leg quarter. Showing the side ways piece of dance
:09:02. > :09:18.that all the gymnasts have to include. Little pause. Back flip and
:09:19. > :09:27.lay out securely done. Oh, a little shy on that change leg half. You
:09:28. > :09:32.have to show the splits. Very nice side somersault. She floated that.
:09:33. > :09:46.Quite a classical gymnast. And good free cartwheel. Very nice
:09:47. > :09:54.technically. We haven't seen any big major skills here. Up for the
:09:55. > :10:01.dismount. Good strong double tuck. She didn't give much away, but the
:10:02. > :10:11.start score will not be massive. Ellie scored 13.06 for beam. So keep
:10:12. > :10:19.your eyes peeled. In qualification her difficulty was 5.1. 13. 466 is a
:10:20. > :10:23.big score. Keeps her in the lead at the moment. Ahead of Ellie Downie.
:10:24. > :10:35.Alice has moved up now into sixth place.
:10:36. > :10:46.Interesting stuff. This 0.667 between first and second at the
:10:47. > :10:55.moment. We join Kim Bui in fifth. This her floor routine. Strong,
:10:56. > :11:03.powerful gymnast. Super double straight opener.
:11:04. > :11:28.Just a double tuck in the middle. Going for safety.
:11:29. > :11:44.The leap series. And she whips that extra half turn in well.
:11:45. > :11:57.And the two and a half twist, fulfilling the requirements.
:11:58. > :12:05.Out to the corner, smoothly into this final tumble. This is a clean,
:12:06. > :12:14.confident routine. Very good, Kim Bui. Well 13.16 6 in qualification.
:12:15. > :12:19.5.2 on the difficulty. She has the got the power and the tumbles. Happy
:12:20. > :12:23.with that in fifth. She has qualified for floor. If you like
:12:24. > :12:32.that routine, you can see it again. Watch the tumble here. Plenty of
:12:33. > :12:37.power. Big tumble, double straight. For any jam -- gymnast an expressive
:12:38. > :12:42.routine and a confident performance and power at the end. That is the
:12:43. > :12:48.second tumble. The double tuck. I think this is the double pike to
:12:49. > :12:57.finish. Nice and high. 13.4 for Kim Bui. Just a reminder, Kovacs was
:12:58. > :13:09.leading and Downie was in second and Eremina third. So on to the gymnast
:13:10. > :13:12.in third place. Eremina from Russia. Qualified third for the floor final.
:13:13. > :13:35.Can she get up to second with this? Well landed, full twisting double
:13:36. > :13:47.back. The judges will deduct for that. They will probably credit. But
:13:48. > :13:49.a nice split on the leap. One and a half, the walk out. Into the two and
:13:50. > :14:28.a half. Really well performed. Got that easy style. A big long
:14:29. > :14:42.pause. Big tumble coming up. Double tuck. And a step out of the floor.
:14:43. > :14:51.Well not so completely secure, but it Wurz very elegant -- was very
:14:52. > :15:00.elegant, nicely performed. Bui the gymnast behind her scored 13.4. That
:15:01. > :15:12.was a good high score. Certainly applies the pressure. Eremina 13.3.
:15:13. > :15:21.This is Christine's gymnast, I am sure you feel a long way away from
:15:22. > :15:29.her sitting here in Manchester! I do, one more piece. I am going to
:15:30. > :15:35.let you do this, Christine, come an! She needs to hit a good handstand,
:15:36. > :15:40.she does, needs to turn with control. Oh! I cannot think the last
:15:41. > :15:45.time she missed that in competition. Such a long time. What a shame. Cos
:15:46. > :15:50.no she doesn't have a forward element either, so that is a big
:15:51. > :15:57.shame, because she has worked on all her difficult pieces. Well, emotions
:15:58. > :16:03.will be running high for her right now, I am so sorry, Chris. No,
:16:04. > :16:07.goodness, that is sport, she did it beautifully yesterday to qualify,
:16:08. > :16:16.she probably has also seen where she lives. Flight down to the low bar,
:16:17. > :16:22.legs locked together, smoothly up to the high bar, beautiful handstand,
:16:23. > :16:26.shapes, actually. Into a nice double pike, good landing, such a shame,
:16:27. > :16:35.because she just went for the arm stretch and missed it, but she has
:16:36. > :16:40.had a great championships. Now it is the turn of Zsofia Kovacs, who is
:16:41. > :16:47.leading this competition as it stands. She scored 12.837 in
:16:48. > :16:56.qualification. This is her bid for a gold medal.
:16:57. > :17:05.Elegant, quiet start, nice full turning jump.
:17:06. > :17:22.Good strong double straight somersault.
:17:23. > :17:48.Full twisting double back, it is all in there.
:17:49. > :17:56.Just a relatively simple spin but cleanly through the loops. Full
:17:57. > :17:58.twisting front. Relatively simple, but it has to be included, the
:17:59. > :18:18.forward somersault. Needs this big final tumble, double
:18:19. > :18:25.tag, it is a good landing. -- tuck. Well, you have to say this young
:18:26. > :18:31.lady has been very consistent, very calm, very controlled in all of her
:18:32. > :18:35.performances today. And very cleverly constructed routines as
:18:36. > :18:39.well, it means she hangs onto a good amount of difficulty but can execute
:18:40. > :18:50.them beautifully, this is going to be a tough challenge to beat.
:18:51. > :18:56.13.033, so she is the gymnast to beat for Ellie Downie, who will be
:18:57. > :19:02.next to go on for. She needs more than 13.570 to go ahead of Eremina
:19:03. > :19:08.and steel that bronze. A bit of pressure, can she do it? It is going
:19:09. > :19:13.to be the double twist Yurchenko. Oh, beautiful height there! Just
:19:14. > :19:18.over cook sit a little bit, but super flight on the top of that
:19:19. > :19:22.vault, wraps in for the double twist, huge bounce back, such a
:19:23. > :19:30.spread knee, dynamic gymnast, Christine. She really is, so much
:19:31. > :19:40.height and flight, she almost cannot control it. Dos Santos goes up into
:19:41. > :19:51.second. And up Ellie goes. She has got to go for broke. Easy leap. Come
:19:52. > :20:01.on, Ellie, big first tumble! Double twisting double tuck, lands easily.
:20:02. > :20:10.And this is the difficult tumble that is essential, the one one half
:20:11. > :20:42.walk out into the double Arabian. A little stutter, but she holds on.
:20:43. > :20:46.Come on, Ellie! Big tumble, double pike, puts her feet down
:20:47. > :21:03.beautifully. Here is the big leap to finish.
:21:04. > :21:12.Well, a grade from a routine, you can see the emotion there. -- well,
:21:13. > :21:17.a great floor routine. Do you know what? She fought, and the two steps,
:21:18. > :21:23.it was a good compromise, to be fair. She has really held that
:21:24. > :21:34.emotion in and harvested today, very good performance. Look at that!
:21:35. > :21:40.Ellie Downie has done it! She is the new all-around European champion!
:21:41. > :21:44.She makes history as the first gymnast ever from Great Britain to
:21:45. > :21:56.take gold in an all-around European gymnastics final!
:21:57. > :22:37.European champion Elissa Downie! I actually have no words, that was
:22:38. > :22:42.one of the hardest competitions I have done, I was quite tired from
:22:43. > :22:46.yesterday, so to come back out and do my routines, I felt different
:22:47. > :22:53.this time, the bars went well, but was shaky, and then floor, I tried
:22:54. > :22:58.to nudge them and not watch anybody else's routine, just focus on my
:22:59. > :23:02.own. After my second tumble pass, I wasn't sure, but I would have been
:23:03. > :23:07.happy with second. When the score came through, I was speechless, I
:23:08. > :23:12.don't have words. What did your sisters say to you? She was
:23:13. > :23:16.speechless as I am, she just said, massive well done, she had my mum on
:23:17. > :23:18.face time with my brothers and sisters, it is a massive thing, I
:23:19. > :23:28.didn't realise how massive it was. Well, it will settle in, but what a
:23:29. > :23:33.title, we have talked at length about the fact that this is the
:23:34. > :23:36.first time that a British gymnast, male or female, has meddled like
:23:37. > :23:43.that, got gold in the all-around, what does it mean, to break the fact
:23:44. > :23:48.that it has never happened before? It is massive, she had qualification
:23:49. > :23:52.the days before, the girls had a tough qualification schedule, she
:23:53. > :23:58.competed late in the afternoon, then do all four pieces. She also
:23:59. > :24:02.qualified first, so looking at the medal table, I could be stood on the
:24:03. > :24:07.podium. A lot of the pressure will have come from within her, she
:24:08. > :24:10.wanted to replicate. She had a tough build-up to the competition,
:24:11. > :24:17.nationals a couple of weeks ago, she landed short. She had to take a bit
:24:18. > :24:21.of time off to rest. So to go out and perform, you could see the
:24:22. > :24:28.relief, every time she did a piece, OK, one down, move onto the next. We
:24:29. > :24:33.will have another look at her floor routine, chasing for the whole
:24:34. > :24:38.competition. She was, but we knew she had a powerful floor routine
:24:39. > :24:42.which she has upgraded this season, great to see the first tumble,
:24:43. > :24:46.double back with double twist, hugely difficult. Then the fact that
:24:47. > :24:51.her second tumble is what most people cannot even use as their
:24:52. > :24:55.first, one and a half in two double Arabian is difficult enough on its
:24:56. > :25:02.own. When you are very familiar with! To second, she was going for
:25:03. > :25:07.the landing, you saw her stagger back, and she spoke about it in the
:25:08. > :25:11.interview, she was thinking, have I done enough? Budget has got the
:25:12. > :25:16.composure to carry on and really sell this routine. -- but she has
:25:17. > :25:23.got. She seems to really enjoy performing it. It seems, I don't
:25:24. > :25:26.know what you think, Kristian, but psychologically, the fight within
:25:27. > :25:31.her, it is really going to help going forward, competing with the
:25:32. > :25:36.Americans, for example. Absolutely, she is already performing way above
:25:37. > :25:40.her age category, only 17 years old, a lot of people forget that. She
:25:41. > :25:45.went out, that was the last apparatus, at the two days of
:25:46. > :25:49.training, there will be mental and physical fatigue, and she has got
:25:50. > :25:53.the grit between her teeth to pick herself up, keep pushing, keep
:25:54. > :25:57.fighting, and I think, the way that she can carry on training, if she
:25:58. > :26:02.can keep on top of it, she has mentioned about the training, a good
:26:03. > :26:08.back at home, with her coach and his sister, if she stays on top of that,
:26:09. > :26:13.I think the sky is the limit. And we have to talk about Alice Kinsella,
:26:14. > :26:19.who finished tenth and fell, and she wasn't expecting to even be part of
:26:20. > :26:24.the European Championships. No, she was back at home, she missed the
:26:25. > :26:27.podium training, which for most gymnast is the opportunity to get
:26:28. > :26:34.used to the equipment. She literally flew out, 30 seconds on each piece,
:26:35. > :26:38.made the all-around final, then went into it with nothing to lose, and
:26:39. > :26:42.her performances really showed this. It was a real shame to have that
:26:43. > :26:48.fall on bars, but the fact that she got back up and finished the
:26:49. > :26:51.routine, you can see it here, very little deduction, credit to her
:26:52. > :26:56.strength of character, to be able to do that. And maybe without that
:26:57. > :27:00.fall, she could have finished around fifth place, but she was there
:27:01. > :27:07.because of an absence with Amy Tinkler, so do you know what is
:27:08. > :27:12.happening with Amy? So she is back in the gym training, she had some
:27:13. > :27:16.time-out after Rio, a bit like Max has done, but she's not quite back
:27:17. > :27:20.to full fitness, so she decided to stay at home, get the training. The
:27:21. > :27:25.World Championships, for most of these girls, is the big game. The
:27:26. > :27:29.Europeans is a nice stepping stone, but it is better to stay at home and
:27:30. > :27:34.get fully fit, get out to Canada at the end of the year. It is nice that
:27:35. > :27:39.gymnasts can make the selectors think, all exciting stuff! So having
:27:40. > :27:43.crowned the all-around champions, it is now time for the specialists to
:27:44. > :27:47.show what they can do out in Transylvania. The top eight gymnasts
:27:48. > :27:52.after qualification are competing in each of the apparatus finals, and
:27:53. > :27:53.qualifying for the men's floor for Great Britain is another new face,
:27:54. > :28:06.Dominick Cunningham. What is your experience been like in
:28:07. > :28:10.Romania so far? I thought it would be a massive difference, being at
:28:11. > :28:15.the European Championships, I always here it is different, but it does
:28:16. > :28:19.always been the same, my boys, my coach, come out, do your job, go
:28:20. > :28:24.back and rest. It has been nice, it has been really good. You seem to be
:28:25. > :28:30.quite outgoing, because when you do well, it looks like you know about
:28:31. > :28:38.it! That is right! All the hard work that we have put in, it is nice to
:28:39. > :28:40.see it pay and the day, lots of different changes, even the day
:28:41. > :28:46.before, having to change things a tiny bit, different speeds, so it
:28:47. > :28:51.has been nice to watch it come off in competitions. What is it like, in
:28:52. > :28:56.the last few years, it must have been tough watching other people
:28:57. > :29:02.being in the team? I have been fighting for this position for a
:29:03. > :29:07.long time, getting World Cup medals on floor and vault, it is all about
:29:08. > :29:12.making progress, this experience, it just shows that I am on this stage,
:29:13. > :29:17.I have got this opportunity, and I need to grab it. So that is what I
:29:18. > :29:20.have done yesterday, I am in the finals now, no more games, I am 21,
:29:21. > :29:39.I am not in the sport for ever. Dominick Cunningham for Great
:29:40. > :29:49.Britain opens the floor final. Dominick Cunningham, Great Britain.
:29:50. > :29:54.Can he hold the nerve? First tumble, it will be big, double twisting,
:29:55. > :30:01.double back in the straight position.
:30:02. > :30:09.One and a half twists, into the double twist. Really powering in the
:30:10. > :30:14.difficulties. Double twisting, double back, again in the tuck
:30:15. > :30:19.position. Just that slight adjustment on landing, but going
:30:20. > :30:28.well so far. High into a double front. That is a very difficult
:30:29. > :30:35.skill to land. Down into the circle work. We see this on the pommel
:30:36. > :30:44.horse. Known as the Russian Wendy. They have to hold two seconds.
:30:45. > :30:53.Works well. Two and a half twists, into the one and a half. Great
:30:54. > :30:59.connection. Come on Dominic, hold on! Into the triple twist, takes the
:31:00. > :31:06.landing well. Dominic Cunningham, what a start. There is his coach Lee
:31:07. > :31:25.Walls, applauds a very good start. Such a dynamic, spatially aware
:31:26. > :31:32.gymnast. This was a good balance of difficult work and good landings.
:31:33. > :31:35.Really nicely done. The triple twist at the end, so clean and so well
:31:36. > :31:42.landed. 13. 14.3. A defendanty -- difficulty
:31:43. > :32:03.of 6. Artem Dolgopyat, 20 years of age
:32:04. > :32:24.from Israel. Second gymnast. Powerful double front somersault
:32:25. > :32:32.with the half turn. Difficult opening tumble. Full twist into the
:32:33. > :32:42.two and a half. That wasn't just round. So that will be a big
:32:43. > :32:48.deduction. Much better there. Double twisting, double back. A bit of a
:32:49. > :32:59.nrvey start. -- nervy start. That's better. Two and a half into the
:33:00. > :33:05.double twist. One and a half into the one and a half with ease. It
:33:06. > :33:17.looked like a bit of a stumble there. Down into the circle. Swing.
:33:18. > :33:27.There is the sound. Final tumble. Got to hold the concentration.
:33:28. > :33:36.Stands up, trim twist. Difficult routine. But there were errors. Just
:33:37. > :33:45.a bit of a nervy performance. He has got some lovely qualities though.
:33:46. > :33:50.Difficult for these young gymnasts. It is a difficult format. Straight
:33:51. > :33:56.out with no warm up and huge tumbling. This hand spring with the
:33:57. > :34:04.half turn, that was a fabulous opening landing. He got a little
:34:05. > :34:15.more anxious as time went on. This was the step back and the step out.
:34:16. > :34:26.He tried to recover it. Only a 0.1 for stepping out. That is where the
:34:27. > :34:35.marks go. Certainly got the difficulty, 6.3 in qualification.
:34:36. > :34:44.6.3 again. A 14.333. He goes into the lead ahead of Dominic
:34:45. > :34:54.Cunningham. Shatilov from Israel, second Israeli gymnast in the final.
:34:55. > :35:00.Known as the tall one, six foot. Oh, very good opening tumble. Double
:35:01. > :35:07.pike, front somersault with half turn. Good in the twist there. Two
:35:08. > :35:13.and a half into the double twist. Gymnasts allowed to combine two
:35:14. > :35:21.tempo elements. Better there. That is the double twisting, double back
:35:22. > :35:32.in the tuck position. Nice combination. 30 years of age and
:35:33. > :35:47.showing all of his experience. Very clean double twist. Locked those
:35:48. > :35:53.feet together in the Wendy swing. Going well so far. That is the
:35:54. > :36:00.sound, the final tumble. Can he hold on? Full twisting double back with
:36:01. > :36:06.ease. He's happy with that one. What a performance from Shatilov on the
:36:07. > :36:13.floor. As you said, showing all his experience there. Knows all about
:36:14. > :36:17.this format, having to control the bounce of floor. Thrilled with that
:36:18. > :36:23.performance. And there's the fist tumble. That was quite a low
:36:24. > :36:33.landing. He had to hop forward at the end of it. But that was really
:36:34. > :36:41.the only landing that was low. Super combination, three somersaults in a
:36:42. > :36:48.row. Hops the heels together there. Lovely and precise in the shape. Off
:36:49. > :36:53.his hands. Lifts up into the air. Very impressive final tumble. Full
:36:54. > :37:03.twisting double back. He was happy with that. Qualified in third place.
:37:04. > :37:08.The door's open now. Well he's happy with that. That puts him into the
:37:09. > :37:20.lead. A 6 difficulty, but the highest execution so far. 8.4. Home
:37:21. > :37:23.crowd favourite, Dragulescu, the most experienced gymnast in the
:37:24. > :37:39.competition. 36 years of age. Such a power chl gymnast. Double
:37:40. > :37:52.front, half turn to start. Rebounds out the floor. Into the twist
:37:53. > :37:57.combination with ease. Linking three skills together.
:37:58. > :38:13.Full, into the two and a half. Making it look easy. Lift to hand
:38:14. > :38:20.stand. His first Olympicing in 2000 - Olympics in 2004. Good there.
:38:21. > :38:26.Stands up, triple twist, shoulders high on the landing. One of the most
:38:27. > :38:33.difficult routines you will see in the final. A full twist into a one
:38:34. > :38:38.and a half. He is going for broke. Qualified in second place. He needs
:38:39. > :38:44.to hang on. If he is going to add another title. Come on! Double
:38:45. > :38:48.twisting, double back, just that little adjustment on landing, but
:38:49. > :38:54.what a routine from this 36-year-old. Fantastic. He has lost
:38:55. > :39:03.none of that power and enthusiasm for the sport. That was a great
:39:04. > :39:08.performance. Actually there is his old team mate who is now the
:39:09. > :39:17.national coach. That proves how old he is. What about that? Lovely
:39:18. > :39:26.technique. Nigh travels on those twisting tumbles. And his landing
:39:27. > :39:31.was so secure and strong. Have to hold that balance. Which he does
:39:32. > :39:33.beautifully. And the final tumble of double twisting double back to
:39:34. > :39:53.finish with is very impressive. Nadia Komenech there. He is the only
:39:54. > :39:58.gymnast apart from her to win four European gold medals. He may beat
:39:59. > :40:09.her if he gets one here. He will make history for Romania. And he has
:40:10. > :40:16.done it. 14.5. Top score today. A 6.2 in difficulty. Well, that's made
:40:17. > :40:29.it all worthwhile for Romania. What a great performance from Dragulescu.
:40:30. > :40:40.This young man is something special. Dimitri Lankin from Russia. Keep
:40:41. > :40:50.your eyes open. The new kid on the block. He is 20 years of age. Stands
:40:51. > :40:53.up. A triple back somersault, yes, that is three somersaults on the
:40:54. > :40:59.floor, the highest difficulty you can get. Good in the twist. Three
:41:00. > :41:09.and a half full twist, a bit snatched on the full. There we go
:41:10. > :41:16.again. A little adjustment on the landing. This is the most difficult
:41:17. > :41:23.routine of the finalists. Double Arabia with half out.
:41:24. > :41:39.Wide arm. Japanese hand stand. He has got so much power. Straight
:41:40. > :41:52.front into a double front. Good combination. Triple twist. Little
:41:53. > :41:56.adjustment. It might have been the most difficult, but it has certainly
:41:57. > :42:00.not been the cleanest for me. But what an exciting performer. Well,
:42:01. > :42:10.the best triple back on the floor area I have seen. Really something
:42:11. > :42:14.special. This young generation of Russians look very exciting. Not
:42:15. > :42:21.quite the finished article at the moment, but wow, he is going to be.
:42:22. > :42:26.He is going to be difficult to beat in the future. Just count the somer
:42:27. > :42:32.salts, one, two, three and he just made it look like he had done a
:42:33. > :42:38.standing tuck back at the finish. Super three and a half twist into
:42:39. > :42:43.front full. Just a little stutter. Really super work. He is very good
:42:44. > :42:48.at twisting. But those landings weren't quite so secure. That is
:42:49. > :42:53.where the marks will be thrown away. His difficulty score will probably
:42:54. > :43:16.be the highest. But will his E score? I doubt it. Good finish. 14.
:43:17. > :43:23.466. Puts him into second. Execution down in the 806. But it was a
:43:24. > :43:31.special routine. And Romania take their first medal of this
:43:32. > :43:34.Championship. Marian Dragulescu, 37, still got all the power and the
:43:35. > :43:42.enthusiasm for the sport. Gold medallist. So Dragulescu takes the
:43:43. > :43:56.gold. Really such a high level final. That
:43:57. > :44:02.was fantastic. Your first senior major final? It was fantastic. I did
:44:03. > :44:07.another good job. A few landings not out of control, but it was great and
:44:08. > :44:13.did a good job for the team and I'm happy to walk away from qualifying
:44:14. > :44:18.in eighth to coming into fifth and only two tenths off a gold. You have
:44:19. > :44:26.got the vault tomorrow. Confident about that? Yes, I'm excited to get
:44:27. > :44:30.out on to vault, knowing how I enjoyed it and the crowd were behind
:44:31. > :44:35.me. I like being out there. I'm looking forward to being so close to
:44:36. > :44:42.a medal. I hope to start grabbing the medals. The crowd went crazesy
:44:43. > :44:47.when Dragulescu got the gold? Yes when you're doing your routine it is
:44:48. > :44:52.silent and it is just the way to control it. It felt like I was at
:44:53. > :44:56.home in the gym. When he got gold it was fantastic to see it. He is 37 I
:44:57. > :45:00.believe, so he is still going. Hopefully that is what I will be in
:45:01. > :45:06.a few years with that gold medal as well. Let's hope so. That is the
:45:07. > :45:10.thing, getting fired up and you don't know how you're going to
:45:11. > :45:13.compete when you get into the arena. If you can add that extra spark and
:45:14. > :45:27.fire? I think Dragulescu has been known
:45:28. > :45:31.for that, you could see from his celebration, you can see how much it
:45:32. > :45:36.means to them, the crowd loves, Romania loves sin, so to be coming
:45:37. > :45:41.away at his age as European champion, absolutely incredible,
:45:42. > :45:50.what an ambassador for the sport. Kristian, you won that title back in
:45:51. > :45:55.2015, you are 28, whom doing it again now at 37, 36, 37, that is
:45:56. > :46:01.some accolade. It really is, and full credit to him, it is is her
:46:02. > :46:05.lifestyle, you have to make sure you are eating correctly, having the
:46:06. > :46:08.right sleep, your family life is correct. Everything about it would
:46:09. > :46:12.revolve around gymnastics. All those details matter, they all add up to
:46:13. > :46:17.those big performances. Full credit to him to be able to not just train
:46:18. > :46:22.but do every little detail, pay attention to those details, and that
:46:23. > :46:26.is why he is still where he is, at that top level. We talked a little
:46:27. > :46:31.bit about the changes in the code, the chapel backs and everything, we
:46:32. > :46:36.get the chance to see that, and Dmitrii Lankin does not even start
:46:37. > :46:41.in the corner of the floor when he does this. It is just incredible, to
:46:42. > :46:45.see tumbles like this, you hope the younger gymnasts will look up to
:46:46. > :46:50.those skills and think, obviously, with that difficulty comes risk, can
:46:51. > :46:53.you nail the landings? We were just chatting about the difference in the
:46:54. > :47:00.floor final, the difference was whether you took a step or not.
:47:01. > :47:05.Obviously, the floor has drastically changed, even in the last five or
:47:06. > :47:14.six years, it is more bouncy, so you will see bigger skills coming in. Is
:47:15. > :47:19.there a possibility of a quad? He had a lot of hype there, he might
:47:20. > :47:24.have practised it. I am 100% certain he will have done it at some point,
:47:25. > :47:28.training into the foam pit. The way that the sport is going, the way it
:47:29. > :47:33.is moving forward, everyone is trying to move the sport on, make it
:47:34. > :47:40.more appealing to the crowd, so no doubt, somewhere in the near future,
:47:41. > :47:45.there will be a quad coming in. The mind boggles, it really does! Still
:47:46. > :47:49.lots more finals to come for you this afternoon, most of which
:47:50. > :47:56.involve Ellie Downie, and the next challenge is vault. She was superb
:47:57. > :48:00.yesterday, she got a great start in the all-around competition, there we
:48:01. > :48:05.go, look, plenty of height, just what you need to get the competition
:48:06. > :48:10.off to a flying start. She is no stranger to the vault medal podium
:48:11. > :48:20.at the European Championships, winning silver last year.
:48:21. > :48:33.Representing Netherlands, Volleman. And most gymnasts opting for their
:48:34. > :48:43.favoured vault first, this is the double twisting straight Yurchenko.
:48:44. > :48:49.Powers down the runway, two twists, a little bit and tidy on the legs,
:48:50. > :48:58.but lots of height, chest was well up on landing. A little bit and tidy
:48:59. > :49:06.with the feed, a little adjustment on landing. Good height, and that is
:49:07. > :49:12.what they look at, blocking from the top, a bit of a split in the feed,
:49:13. > :49:16.down for landing. Beautiful straight arm block, which is what gives her
:49:17. > :49:28.the hide in the air and the time for the twists. 14.400 for Tisha
:49:29. > :49:37.Volleman, first vault. Here comes the second vault, 5.2. Remember, has
:49:38. > :49:44.to be the forward entry this time, she went on backwards last time.
:49:45. > :49:50.Same powerful run, the halve turn, the straight front, halve turn,
:49:51. > :50:00.nicely done, down the middle. Really efficient vault by this young
:50:01. > :50:07.gymnast. Very powerful round off, there is the half turn, good contact
:50:08. > :50:13.with the hands, well within the zone. Super second vault. Really
:50:14. > :50:22.does block from the top. If anything, just a little bit and tidy
:50:23. > :50:27.with the feed on both vaults. Yes, but much better with direction,
:50:28. > :50:32.confident landing. We have to keep our eye on the screen to see if they
:50:33. > :50:41.show the second vault and the average all in one. An average of 14
:50:42. > :50:46.plus, 13.967 in qualification. I think that might well have been
:50:47. > :50:53.better, that was really good. So second vault, 14.100 gives an
:50:54. > :51:00.average of 14.125, Tisha Volleman is the current leader in this women's
:51:01. > :51:05.vault final. Elissa Downie, Great Britain! Next on to vault,
:51:06. > :51:11.representing Great Britain, it is Ellie Downie. Well, we saw her
:51:12. > :51:16.perform fantastically yesterday, as she got enough in the locker to do
:51:17. > :51:21.it again today? Really good power, but for hide and left, lovely
:51:22. > :51:27.landing, no doubt about it at all. -- beautiful height and lived.
:51:28. > :51:33.Beautiful double twist, she has enormous power and style. The judges
:51:34. > :51:40.making their assessment. This is the best block so far for me, legs and
:51:41. > :51:44.feet she absolutely went for broke on that landing, and I think the
:51:45. > :51:53.legs went a little bit. Anybody else would have buckled, but it just
:51:54. > :51:58.proves the determination. Double twist, solid first vault for Becky
:51:59. > :52:04.Downie. Ellie Downie, sorry, in the excitement! So that was her
:52:05. > :52:09.favourite vault, the one she used for the all-around competition. And
:52:10. > :52:14.you are doing four pieces of apparatus, you only need to do one
:52:15. > :52:26.vault, only in the finals do you need to do two. The score for the
:52:27. > :52:34.first vault, 14.4 00. So this also will be the half turn, and needs to
:52:35. > :52:40.show control and commitment here. Big round off, turns along, blocks,
:52:41. > :52:54.lovely straight body shape, super vault, that really was classy. GB
:52:55. > :53:00.supporters in the crowd. Showing some real consistency now in her
:53:01. > :53:04.gymnastics, look at this, so powerful, have turn, handspring
:53:05. > :53:14.blocks, plenty of time to spot the flaw. The locked together, legs
:53:15. > :53:19.straight. -- feet locked together, legs straight. Good body shape,
:53:20. > :53:25.Chester well up. Well, it was tough to come out here, not too long,
:53:26. > :53:35.certainly less than 24 hours after creating history. 14.350 average for
:53:36. > :53:42.Ellie Downie, moves into first place.
:53:43. > :54:04.The Hungarian gymnasts have been very good at these championships so
:54:05. > :54:10.far, this looks determined, powerful, strong, lovely double
:54:11. > :54:18.twist, legs crossed a little bit, which the judges will deduct four,
:54:19. > :54:23.but bags of energy and flight. Here we go, we can see again, really
:54:24. > :54:29.blocked off the top, probably the highest double twist we have seen so
:54:30. > :54:33.far, certainly got the height. As you said, Chris, just a little bit
:54:34. > :54:39.of a split on the feet, so the judges will pick that up, a little
:54:40. > :54:49.hop on the landing. Judges looking for height, flight and length. I
:54:50. > :54:54.think most of the ladies are doing the double twist Yurchenko in this
:54:55. > :54:59.final. Yes, to be a serious contender these days, you need to be
:55:00. > :55:07.at least double twisting this vault. They get such good flight off the
:55:08. > :55:15.top. The score comes in for Devai, Hungary, 14.400 for the first vault.
:55:16. > :55:24.So far, it is the second vault that has divided the gymnasts. Very
:55:25. > :55:35.similar scores for the first vault for them all so far. Really attacks,
:55:36. > :55:40.oh, and that was a very nice vault as well, half turn, straight shape
:55:41. > :55:56.in the air, they are delighted with that. Absolutely delighted!
:55:57. > :56:04.This was exceptionally well performed, executed better, in my
:56:05. > :56:10.mind, than the first vault, straight down the middle, good block, she
:56:11. > :56:15.really does contact the top of the horse well, and transfers that into
:56:16. > :56:22.height, which gives you a lot more time to spot the landing and have
:56:23. > :56:32.less deductions. Beautiful straight body shape in the air. So moves into
:56:33. > :56:40.second place, 14.317 average for Devai from Hungary. Next up,
:56:41. > :56:45.representing Russia, Maria Paseka. This is the gymnast with the
:56:46. > :56:50.pedigree and the big vault, although starting with the quieter one, half
:56:51. > :56:58.turn on, straight front, not the best of what we have seen today. She
:56:59. > :57:02.started with the slightly less difficult vault, she has been
:57:03. > :57:05.training a very difficult to land a half twist Yurchenko in training,
:57:06. > :57:13.although she did not compete it in finals. -- two and a half twist. Of
:57:14. > :57:20.big legs split on the half turn, then the pike down and the step to
:57:21. > :57:23.the side. We have seen her perform vault better than that. You can see
:57:24. > :57:29.somebody in the crowd was thinking exactly the same! And I think that
:57:30. > :57:33.is a vault she struggles with, even though it is the easier one, she has
:57:34. > :57:38.opted to get it out of the way first while she is fresh. But going for
:57:39. > :57:48.the big second vault. Olympic medallist on vault. Watching
:57:49. > :58:01.anxiously for the score to come in. Well strapped ankles, hips. Wrists.
:58:02. > :58:11.Wrists. Score comes in, Maria Paseka, 14.033 for the first vault.
:58:12. > :58:14.So she has posted the 5.8 difficulty, this is the two and a
:58:15. > :58:24.half twist in straight somersault off the vault. Flips, lifts, two and
:58:25. > :58:27.a half twists, and she makes it, a little stutter backwards, but a
:58:28. > :58:32.clean landing, cleanly through the twists. Lots of relief in the
:58:33. > :58:47.Russian camp there. It is a big vault, this, highest
:58:48. > :58:51.difficulty, Yurchenko, blocks, two and a half twists, deep in the
:58:52. > :58:59.landing, still with the legs split, did very well to save the landing
:59:00. > :59:07.there. 14.412 in qualification, so she needs every bit of that if she
:59:08. > :59:15.wants to take the vault title. Current leader is Ellie Downie, 14.3
:59:16. > :59:19.50. You saw the judges there with their pencils, writing down the
:59:20. > :59:23.deductions they can see. Obviously, she can afford to have more
:59:24. > :59:29.deductions because the tariff is higher. It was out of 15.8, that
:59:30. > :59:39.vault, so the deductions are taken off that 15.8. Of the score comes
:59:40. > :59:50.in, not good enough today, average of 14.283 points Paseka into third
:59:51. > :59:57.place. So representing France, Coline Devillard. And we have seen
:59:58. > :00:03.great work from the French gymnasts this championships, and a super
:00:04. > :00:06.handspring straight front with one and a half twists, lovely vault
:00:07. > :00:18.there. Lovely vaulting there. Little tiny
:00:19. > :00:23.gymnast compared to the others. But loads of power. Certainly packed
:00:24. > :00:28.with power. Look at that huge block off the top. Wraps in, one and a
:00:29. > :00:35.half twists, straight down the middle. Combination of two vaults.
:00:36. > :00:40.These are the highest scoring vaults, difficulty-wise in this
:00:41. > :00:45.final. Should score well. And the coach giving her a bit of advice for
:00:46. > :00:50.the second vault. Full of passion and advice, you can see from the
:00:51. > :00:58.practice she is probably going to flip on for this one. These gymnasts
:00:59. > :01:12.showing good variety of vault. We have seen a huge hand spring vault.
:01:13. > :01:17.The score is big 14.6. Second vault. Well, if she can watch this second
:01:18. > :01:24.vault too the first, she's in with a shot. Political party on. Double
:01:25. > :01:32.twist. A little bit wild. But a very good vault. That could, that could
:01:33. > :01:41.be a winning vault. Don't sit on the fence Christine! She's even done a
:01:42. > :01:47.celebration dance. They must do that in France as well. A double twist
:01:48. > :01:53.and such a powerful vault from a little gymnast. If anything, arms a
:01:54. > :02:00.little bit skewed on the top. But with that big first vault of 14.633.
:02:01. > :02:04.I think this is good enough to go into first place. She posted the
:02:05. > :02:10.highest score of anybody for the first vault and that was a second
:02:11. > :02:15.vault equal in value, which no one else has managed to produce. The
:02:16. > :02:26.coach seems to think she has done enough. There we have cop firm -
:02:27. > :02:36.confirmed 14.467. To Devillard of France. Just 17, will be crowned the
:02:37. > :02:42.European vault champion. And huge scenes of emotion here and quite
:02:43. > :02:45.interestingly France, Great Britain and Hungary on the podium again.
:02:46. > :02:50.Exactly the same as in the all-round. Difficult gymnasts, but
:02:51. > :02:56.they're the countries making the noise here. Ellie Downie had to wait
:02:57. > :03:03.until the end. Held first place until the last gymnast. But she
:03:04. > :03:05.knows that the French girl had a higher tariff second vault and that
:03:06. > :03:44.is really what made the day. Here is the moment then that Ellie
:03:45. > :03:49.Downie gets medal No 2 and remember, she qualified for every single
:03:50. > :03:56.final. So she must be feeling pretty exhausted. More from her at bars
:03:57. > :04:01.final to come. Let's reflection on the vault final. We saw the majority
:04:02. > :04:05.of them opting for the same vault. Yes and I think that is what
:04:06. > :04:10.separated the French girl out. She had the first vault that was higher,
:04:11. > :04:20.that gave her the edge. The Russian girl for second did try and had
:04:21. > :04:24.those staggers back. Christine, as a world vault medallist, yourself, how
:04:25. > :04:30.do you prepare yourself for that second vault. Both have to be
:04:31. > :04:39.different. They must feel different. Yes, I think from my own experience,
:04:40. > :04:46.no matter whether the vault was good or bad, you have to compose
:04:47. > :04:51.yourself. There is a lot of anxiety to get started and perhaps rush on
:04:52. > :04:55.the technique. So I found it helpful to think about the basics, think
:04:56. > :05:01.about one thing you have got to do right and clear your mind. Well it
:05:02. > :05:08.worked for Devillard. Without the presence of Lewis Smith or Max
:05:09. > :05:12.Whitlock, it is no surprise the other pommel horse workers in Europe
:05:13. > :05:17.are relishing the opportunities. It has been nine years since a British
:05:18. > :05:31.gymnast hasn't been in the pommel final. But the Hungarian Christian
:05:32. > :05:44.Berki is back. Here is how the top eight got on.
:05:45. > :05:51.First gymnast. Starts with the single leg work. Picks up that.
:05:52. > :05:59.That's the double leg circle. Good extension. The hips above the horse.
:06:00. > :06:05.That builds the difficulty. The flop series. Into hand stand. Keeps the
:06:06. > :06:11.momentum going. This is difficult work. Good difficult work between
:06:12. > :06:20.the handles. That is a Russian circle. Travelling backwards again
:06:21. > :06:28.on the end. On again. Travels forwards. If the gymnasts are
:06:29. > :06:35.slightly skewed, the hand back, there is a deduction. But working
:06:36. > :06:50.well, into the hand stand pirouette. A good start. That was a good
:06:51. > :06:55.routine from Merdinyan from Armenia. It is always nervy to be the first
:06:56. > :07:09.person. But he did well. He controlled the nerves. He kept his
:07:10. > :07:14.rhythm. That was a very good opening performance. The only thing I can
:07:15. > :07:19.see there is the deduction for his shoulders not being in line. The
:07:20. > :07:24.skewing is I was talking about, something the judges are picking on,
:07:25. > :07:29.and that will be 0.3 for every circle. So he has the difficulty.
:07:30. > :07:40.It's the execution. His difficulty was 6 ppt 1 in qualification. --
:07:41. > :07:49.6.1. So a different set of judges now. At big championships like this,
:07:50. > :07:55.you have different set and the judges will have to be countries
:07:56. > :08:02.without people in the finals. 14.833. Good execution. That is a
:08:03. > :08:17.big score to set down for the first performer.
:08:18. > :08:28.Great Russian gymnast. Very compact gymnast. Straight into the hand
:08:29. > :08:39.stand. Interesting one handle work there. That is the flop sequence
:08:40. > :08:49.that brings difficulty. Really difficult work. Full spindle. Notice
:08:50. > :08:54.how he keeps the momentum going. Feet locked together. Travelling
:08:55. > :09:01.backwards. Height above the pommel and the hips. That is good. No
:09:02. > :09:14.problems there. Pirouette in the hand stand.
:09:15. > :09:24.David Belyskiy does well. He has not contested the all-round. But he has
:09:25. > :09:29.been the leader of the Russian team for the past few years. That was a
:09:30. > :09:36.signature move on the one arm. Lovely style. You can see the
:09:37. > :09:43.extension through the hips. Holds the body out. Technically a very
:09:44. > :09:49.good gymnast. Swings smoothly up into the hand stand. That is what
:09:50. > :09:54.you want to see for the dismount. The coaches are happy. If you can
:09:55. > :09:58.keep your coaches happy, then you have done all right. Certainly if
:09:59. > :10:03.you were my coach, I wouldn't want to upset you! But he picked up a
:10:04. > :10:18.silver in the 2016 Europeans. He is going to have to work hard to push
:10:19. > :10:21.Berki today. 15.1 puts him into first. He is very happy with that
:10:22. > :10:35.performance. And here the master of the pommel
:10:36. > :10:44.horse. Won everything. Tremendous pommel horse worker from Hungary,
:10:45. > :10:56.Christian Berki. 5'10". Six European titles. Three world titles and the
:10:57. > :11:02.Olympic champion from 2012. Extension, separation on that single
:11:03. > :11:13.leg work. Superb. Picks up into the double circles. Working the one
:11:14. > :11:19.handle. And again. Great extension. Feet locked together. Russian circle
:11:20. > :11:29.between the handles. Down to the end and travels along the horse. A
:11:30. > :11:34.master at work. Forward travel. Magyar into the back toward travel,
:11:35. > :11:53.up into the hand stand. Well, that is how you do a pommel routine.
:11:54. > :12:00.Berki from Hungary. Absolute class. Beautiful style. Beautiful line.
:12:01. > :12:08.Swings with such a good, straight body. A tall gymnast. It is more
:12:09. > :12:20.impressive when you can see how long he is. 15.2 in qualification.
:12:21. > :12:30.Certainly looked good to me. And we have a long line of traditional good
:12:31. > :12:40.pommel workers. Talk about the move the Magyar travel, performed by
:12:41. > :12:52.Magyar from Hungary many years ago. Interestingly his difficulty score
:12:53. > :12:57.was below that of Belyavsskiy in qualifying. It was executed superbly
:12:58. > :13:08.and I think that should go into the lead. Pretty confident on that. But
:13:09. > :13:18.how much? Could be European title No 7. You don't have to be a pommel
:13:19. > :13:26.expert to notice class and style of his work. From the start with the
:13:27. > :13:36.single leg separation. To the tempo of the routine. The judges... There
:13:37. > :13:45.is six of them. Two counting the defendanty. -- difficulty. Four
:13:46. > :14:02.evaluating the mistakes. And it's second for Berki. A 9 in execution.
:14:03. > :14:11.6.2 in difficulty. A bit below. The winner is David Belyavskiy. There
:14:12. > :14:16.was some confusion over why Berki didn't get the gold there and if you
:14:17. > :14:21.could see on the graphic it said there was a penalty of 0.3, because
:14:22. > :14:26.he didn't start within the time aloud at the beginning. And give
:14:27. > :14:31.everybody an idea, you have a green light. Your name comes up and it
:14:32. > :14:37.would have a red light. As soon as it turns green, you have 30 seconds
:14:38. > :14:42.to start. So obviously we didn't see the scoreboard, but it looks like he
:14:43. > :14:46.has gone over that 30 second and gets a penalty. If you go over one
:14:47. > :14:51.minute you're not allowed to start. He was able to continues, but lost
:14:52. > :14:57.that three points. We can look back at the footage. Because he had his
:14:58. > :15:01.back to where the green light was that he was unaware. It has gone
:15:02. > :15:10.green there. Yes, as Beth said you have the 30 seconds and I mean once
:15:11. > :15:16.you walk to the actual pom ever horse, he -- pommel horse he has his
:15:17. > :15:20.back to it and he is not aware of what time the clock is on. And
:15:21. > :15:24.somebody with his experience you would think he is aware of how long
:15:25. > :15:29.he has got and that probably is something like this wouldn't happen
:15:30. > :15:35.with someone of his experience. But it is very unfortunately.
:15:36. > :15:43.I feel sorry for him, he a dad, coming back as a husband and father
:15:44. > :15:48.to try to get this title again, number seven, and as far as his
:15:49. > :15:53.gymnastics were concerned, he won. It is a new cycle, the judges have
:15:54. > :15:57.all just taken exams, so all of the rules are fresh in their minds, so
:15:58. > :16:01.any deduction they will be looking to take it. Unfortunately, he will
:16:02. > :16:07.be kicking himself tonight to know that technically he was the best,
:16:08. > :16:10.and to lose it, it didn't even look like we were just wondering whether
:16:11. > :16:15.he was warming up, not quite ready. But it looks like he was looking up
:16:16. > :16:21.at the scoreboard in the ceiling, not aware of the one behind him. He
:16:22. > :16:25.has just lost track of time. Well, Belyavskiy is a class act, if you're
:16:26. > :16:29.going to give it to anyone, give it to him, I suppose. It was
:16:30. > :16:34.interesting watching that without any British entry! Absolutely! I
:16:35. > :16:39.think Belyavskiy stepped up to the mark, he has got that consistency
:16:40. > :16:43.that he bats lacked earlier, but he is stepping up and producing these
:16:44. > :16:47.big result in a regular basis, definitely a force to be contended
:16:48. > :16:52.with an pommel horse over this next cycle leading up to Tokyo. Women's
:16:53. > :16:58.bars now, and it is not just Ellie Downie who is handy in the gym, her
:16:59. > :17:03.sister also holds two European titles and has been a big part of
:17:04. > :17:07.the British team for many years. She is outcompeting alongside her sister
:17:08. > :17:13.on bars, and here is her take on her new routine.
:17:14. > :17:22.Qualifying was actually pretty good, the routine I put out, I think I did
:17:23. > :17:27.a good job, considering. There is a potential upgrade that we could put
:17:28. > :17:32.in for the final, an extra 0.10, but I know I will be placed last, I can
:17:33. > :17:35.make the decision on what everyone else has done before me and just
:17:36. > :17:40.enjoy it. I have got a brand-new release at the end of my routine.
:17:41. > :17:51.The routine that I was working all the way up to Rio, or at least the
:17:52. > :17:54.last two years working up had a major release, and sometimes it paid
:17:55. > :17:57.off, but at Rio I called my feet on the bar, the same other World
:17:58. > :18:03.Championships, and I wanted that risk to go. As a result, we had to
:18:04. > :18:08.change my old release, put that at the start, and then learn a new one,
:18:09. > :18:12.so it has been a quick process, I have only been doing it for four
:18:13. > :18:16.months, so I am pleased I have got it in, we have taken the starting
:18:17. > :18:18.value down a bit to put this new skill in, then we'll rebuild the
:18:19. > :18:41.routine in a different way. Representing Great Britain, Ellie
:18:42. > :18:46.Downie. Well, she has had some sort of schedule here, Ellie Downie, hops
:18:47. > :18:53.into the forward grip, every gymnast has to show a forward grip, into the
:18:54. > :18:57.Tkatchev, short clear Tkatchev, now the all-important fall pirouette,
:18:58. > :19:04.cleanly into the stoop Tkachev, down to the Pak salto, really fitting it
:19:05. > :19:11.all in now, up with the half turn, cleanly over the bar. Super
:19:12. > :19:18.handstand shape, just the dismount to negotiate, a little hop back,
:19:19. > :19:23.well done, Elie! Well done, Ellie, a third day in a row, producing that
:19:24. > :19:30.big spectacular bar routine. Very impressive work. Great resilience.
:19:31. > :19:36.What a championships she is having, look at the flight there, up to the
:19:37. > :19:43.top bar, clear circle into the Tkatchev, difficult work. You can
:19:44. > :19:50.see the hand placement, straight into another Tkatchev, down to the
:19:51. > :19:59.lower bar, and this is a big this amount, the double layout, great
:20:00. > :20:04.extension, adjustment on landing. Shoot trusted herself, she let it
:20:05. > :20:10.go, she let it flow. She didn't try to fight it. When you are weary, as
:20:11. > :20:15.she must be why now, three days of competition, that is the only way to
:20:16. > :20:23.go - trust yourself, work with the apparatus, and she surely did that
:20:24. > :20:28.today. She scored 14.266 in qualification. I think the pirouette
:20:29. > :20:33.was a little bit later today, the pirouette is meant to try and finish
:20:34. > :20:40.in handstand or as close to. The score comes in, 14.133 for Ellie
:20:41. > :20:48.Downie, that puts into first place so far.
:20:49. > :20:58.Representing Hungary, Zsofia Kovacs. This is the gymnast who went head to
:20:59. > :21:02.head all away with Ellie Downie yesterday, ended up with the silver
:21:03. > :21:10.medal, but she is a complete gymnast. Good first handstand,
:21:11. > :21:17.lovely stoop in and out with further pirouette as well, straight into the
:21:18. > :21:23.Pak salto down to the lower bar, but she missed the connection. And that
:21:24. > :21:29.is disappointing to see, she didn't fight to carry on. She would have
:21:30. > :21:33.hoped to have gone down to the low bar immediately back up to the high
:21:34. > :21:37.bar, but the move down to the low bar has to be so precise to be able
:21:38. > :21:46.to get your feet in for the next bit. 30 seconds to re-mount on the
:21:47. > :21:56.apparatus, otherwise there is a deduction. Here we go. So now feed
:21:57. > :22:05.on, with the half turn, the flight to high bar with the half turn,
:22:06. > :22:11.stoop in and out, front somersault, and negotiate that well. Just the
:22:12. > :22:15.dismount now, here it comes, for all twisting double back in the term
:22:16. > :22:18.position. That was a shame, you would normally hope that the gymnast
:22:19. > :22:23.would have been able to work out and just take an extra upstart
:22:24. > :22:29.handstand, but she obviously felt too far off balance to manage that.
:22:30. > :22:37.May be day three of competition starting to show a little bit in the
:22:38. > :22:43.all-around performers. As you can see, great height and flight up to
:22:44. > :22:49.the top bar, some good turns in the handstands. Just the timing, down to
:22:50. > :23:01.the low bar. Big wind-up, for a boost. Double back dismount. The 0.1
:23:02. > :23:07.for coming from the apparatus will cost her dearly. Yes, these gymnasts
:23:08. > :23:12.have had a huge schedule, this is their third day in a row, and, just
:23:13. > :23:17.as for Ellie, her second final of the day. They will be happy to put
:23:18. > :23:22.their feet up now for the rest of the day before they start again
:23:23. > :23:28.tomorrow. Tomorrow, yes, I was going to say! Ellie is back on again
:23:29. > :23:36.tomorrow on the floor. And the beam. In fact, she is doing everything!
:23:37. > :23:50.The score comes in, 13.100 for Zsofia Kovacs of Hungary.
:23:51. > :24:00.Representing Russia, on the uneven bars, Elena Eremina. Watch this
:24:01. > :24:07.first skill, absolutely straight over the bar, immediate Pak salto,
:24:08. > :24:12.lovely, lovely original work, the half turn just lost the legs a
:24:13. > :24:18.little bit, a tiny gymnast to make that, but the stoop work is
:24:19. > :24:24.beautiful. Lovely high front somersault, the gymnast have to use
:24:25. > :24:29.a forward grip move, that was hers. Second pirouette was a little bit
:24:30. > :24:34.late, lovely dismount, though, so clearly off the bar, the twist put
:24:35. > :24:38.in now. We didn't have a great angle, but the pirouette looked
:24:39. > :24:45.late. It certainly did, we might get a better view from the side. What a
:24:46. > :24:51.start to the routine, fabulous. I recognise that man comedy you,
:24:52. > :24:56.Christine?! Yes, already! There you go, huge into the straight Tkatchev,
:24:57. > :25:01.down straight to the low bar, there we can see the double back for all
:25:02. > :25:10.turn in the second somersault. Junior European champion in 2016,
:25:11. > :25:16.all-around. Big, big talent from Russia. Beautiful, unusual bar work
:25:17. > :25:20.as well, that skill is probably the skill most people have been talking
:25:21. > :25:26.about in the championships, the way she does it, the absolutely straight
:25:27. > :25:29.body. Same on the Aegerter somersault as welcome as she has
:25:30. > :25:45.obviously got a real feel for the bar. -- the Jaeger somersault. She
:25:46. > :25:56.scored 14 -- 14.300, she goes into first place. Bruma a little bit down
:25:57. > :26:00.on her start value, but this is the girl to watch. Representing Germany,
:26:01. > :26:15.Elisabeth Seitz on the uneven bars. Top qualifier and a really explosive
:26:16. > :26:21.routine, lovely handstand, but look at the height and the flight,
:26:22. > :26:27.beautiful in the straddle position, just the Aegerter a tiny bit bent
:26:28. > :26:35.armed on the hop, but lovely work now. That pike is so difficult, but
:26:36. > :26:44.I think she missed a connection have to take an extra upstart handstand
:26:45. > :26:48.that will affect her start score. She floats off the bar, gives
:26:49. > :26:52.herself so much time, for all pirouette into full twisting double
:26:53. > :27:00.back, but a big step on landing, she has opened the door a little bit, a
:27:01. > :27:04.couple of errors. I certainly agree, we have seen some great bar work,
:27:05. > :27:10.but lots of opportunity for deductions there. That free swing, I
:27:11. > :27:17.think she should have gone straight down with the Pak salto to the low
:27:18. > :27:22.bar. There we go. High in the straddle, the somersault, that was
:27:23. > :27:29.the good work, stoop, half turn, fall twist on the dismount. And that
:27:30. > :27:35.big adjustment on landing and the late for all turn, I think, will be
:27:36. > :27:42.very costly. A great gymnast for Germany over the years, great
:27:43. > :27:46.success, represented at them at Olympics, and really is very
:27:47. > :27:51.explosive on the bars. She has just got that sort of power, she works
:27:52. > :27:57.the bars so well. But just a couple of areas there that the judges could
:27:58. > :28:07.deduct, and we will see. She had a 6.1 difficulty in qualification, but
:28:08. > :28:19.I think not linking the Tkatchev to the Pak will have... The score comes
:28:20. > :28:26.in, 14.133 for Seitz of Germany. They
:28:27. > :28:37.Representing Belgium on the uneven bars, Nina Derwael. In
:28:38. > :28:43.qualification, she tied with Seitz for the top spot, lovely lines,
:28:44. > :28:47.superhigh Tkatchev, this is the big combination, watch, catches in mixed
:28:48. > :28:53.grip, straight down to the low bar, really well the go she ate it. And
:28:54. > :29:02.then back up, beautifully flighted. -- really well negotiated. Lovely
:29:03. > :29:07.with the half turn, that is one of the best we have seen. All
:29:08. > :29:11.pirouette, nice and clean on top of the bar, full twisting double back,
:29:12. > :29:18.that was a very clean routine. If she gets her 6.1 start, it will be
:29:19. > :29:23.difficult to better. Well, what a routine from the young Belgian
:29:24. > :29:31.gymnast there! So clean, graceful, and the way she floated between the
:29:32. > :29:37.bars. There we can see, banging handstand, lovely line, feet locked
:29:38. > :29:43.together there, and interesting, the Tkatchev with half turn to mixed
:29:44. > :29:48.grip down to the low bar, connecting to the full turn before the
:29:49. > :29:59.dismount. I think that is the best we have seen so far. Very clean
:30:00. > :30:07.execution, Craig, I think that was. Needs 14.300 zero go joint with
:30:08. > :30:09.Eremina. I think she could be close to her qualifications go, what do
:30:10. > :30:16.you reckon? Scores look like they're tighter in
:30:17. > :30:21.qualification. It is a different set of judges. If you have got a gymnast
:30:22. > :30:31.in the final, you can't have a judge on the floor. It has to be judged by
:30:32. > :30:38.a different group. It is 14.633 for Nina Derwael of Belgium. We have a
:30:39. > :30:48.new leader. And an emphatic leader. That is a big score. Defending
:30:49. > :30:56.European champion, representing Great Britain. Becky Downie. She
:30:57. > :31:02.knows the routine of her life is needed to hold on to her title.
:31:03. > :31:06.Starts with the forward element on the low bar. That was clean. Up to
:31:07. > :31:15.the high bar. This is the big series. In the straddle position.
:31:16. > :31:21.Full pirouette, lovely. And again. And she links it. She knows she has
:31:22. > :31:27.got to. Keep her head. This is the big new combination coming up. Here
:31:28. > :31:32.is the move. And she just didn't have quite enough flight to get her
:31:33. > :31:43.hands over the bar. And I think she... Is hurt. The doctor and
:31:44. > :31:51.physio on hand. It was going so well. Here we go. Up... Oh yes she
:31:52. > :31:58.put her hand down as she fell and it looks like she has hurt her wrist or
:31:59. > :32:05.her elbow. But she is up and walking and... That is a very great shame to
:32:06. > :32:13.finish the uneven bar final in that manner. There we have confirmation.
:32:14. > :32:29.First place, remitting Belgium, it is Nina Derwael.
:32:30. > :32:37.Another couple of medal, but in your time, your sister fell, tell us what
:32:38. > :32:42.you know happened? I'm not sure what she has done. She has been having a
:32:43. > :32:46.couple of niggles in training so, I wasn't sure what it was when she
:32:47. > :32:55.fell. I just felt gutted for her. She has worked so hard, as hard as
:32:56. > :33:03.me and today was for her and me. Difficult to celebrate your medals,
:33:04. > :33:07.but you did get a have I verse and -- silver and bronze. The vault I
:33:08. > :33:13.was happy with, I was in first until the last girl and she deserved it.
:33:14. > :33:19.Her straults were -- vaults were tidier than me. I have happy to let
:33:20. > :33:25.her have that title. The bars was so unexpected. If Becky had gone
:33:26. > :33:29.through she would have knocked me into fourth. A bitter sweet day.
:33:30. > :33:36.What about last night. How much sleep did you get? I slept pretty
:33:37. > :33:39.well, the fight before I was restless knowing I had qualified
:33:40. > :33:44.first and I was nervous throughout the whole day. Last night I crashed
:33:45. > :33:50.a bit. From all the highs and emotions. Well done today and we
:33:51. > :33:57.will see you tomorrow and pass on our best wishes to Becky.
:33:58. > :34:03.STUDIO: You can see her getting that bronze. She has the full set, the
:34:04. > :34:08.gold, the silver and the bronze. And interesting to hear she slept worse
:34:09. > :34:14.the night after qualification with the potential of what could be over
:34:15. > :34:18.the reality. Yes definitely. For myself I struggled to sleep after a
:34:19. > :34:22.competition, because even though my body was tired and needed rest,
:34:23. > :34:26.there was so much going on in my head, I was thinking about the
:34:27. > :34:32.routines and things that I could improve on. So much going on. It is
:34:33. > :34:36.great she found something that suits her and got down to and helped with
:34:37. > :34:40.her performances. She is proving to be so consistent and hearing that
:34:41. > :34:46.fighting talk even with David, I was happy to let her have that title.
:34:47. > :34:52.She just loves the competition. As soon as she goes out and see the
:34:53. > :34:56.atmosphere and just, some gymnasts struggle with that pressure. She
:34:57. > :35:00.seems to rise to it and loves being in the limelight. It is great to
:35:01. > :35:05.have that attitude. It could have been her sister who knocked her out
:35:06. > :35:10.of the medal spot. Becky was going for her third title. Trying to catch
:35:11. > :35:14.you up, Beth. How much do you think that would have been on her mind and
:35:15. > :35:18.how conscious do you think she would have been through that whole
:35:19. > :35:24.routine. A lot of it is about muscle memory. Yes, she said it is a new
:35:25. > :35:28.routine. She had one for Rio and the World Championships and a couple of
:35:29. > :35:33.errors with it and made a decision that she didn't want that risk right
:35:34. > :35:37.at the end. So it has been a quick turn and and routines take time to
:35:38. > :35:41.settle down. We saw her go at nationals and having trouble. I
:35:42. > :35:45.spoke to her and she seemed chilled out about it and said it will take
:35:46. > :35:53.me time to settle into the routine. Not only is it moving the routine,
:35:54. > :35:59.it is a whole brand-new skill. But to do that is hard. That routine was
:36:00. > :36:04.brilliant up until. She still came seventh. Just doing half of the
:36:05. > :36:09.routine. That shows there was very little dedebgs. That bode --
:36:10. > :36:13.deduction and that bodes well and we have our own medical team and they
:36:14. > :36:17.will assess her. She has a beam final tomorrow. They will be
:36:18. > :36:23.assessing that to see where she is at tomorrow and make that decision.
:36:24. > :36:29.Depends Fong injury. -- defending on the injury. Now to rings and
:36:30. > :36:35.historically rings hasn't been the strongest piece for Britain. But we
:36:36. > :36:40.have been watching as Courtney Tulloch has been starting to
:36:41. > :36:47.challenge the best in the world. Court never finished fourth last
:36:48. > :36:54.year, could this be his year to get Britain's first rings international
:36:55. > :36:58.medal. Let's find out. I love competing for Great Britain, I was
:36:59. > :37:03.obviously a bit disappointed to not make the team for Rio. It was hard.
:37:04. > :37:08.Obviously, I has been training a long time for that event to make, to
:37:09. > :37:13.try and get to Rio. But it wasn't my time. But I have been in the gym
:37:14. > :37:21.training hard, making new goals, setting new targets with my coach.
:37:22. > :37:24.And I'm reaching them goals just a lit p stepping -- little stepping
:37:25. > :37:29.stone. I'm pleased to have made the rings final and I can't wait to get
:37:30. > :37:33.out there to show everyone what I can do. Happy to qualify, but it all
:37:34. > :37:37.starts again. You can't think about what you did in qualification.
:37:38. > :37:42.Everyone will step up their game and I will do that as well. I'm not
:37:43. > :37:47.thinking about that now. I have go tot move on and I just want to
:37:48. > :38:07.improve and keep on improving. Fopp Davatyan the first. You can see
:38:08. > :38:12.the green light. There is a count down and they have to get on the
:38:13. > :38:20.apparatus before that downs down. And that is where Berki came to
:38:21. > :38:33.grief. Strong start. Pulls from below the rings, straight up into
:38:34. > :38:44.the top. Circle round to the Maltese positionment. And held. Open hands.
:38:45. > :38:51.Now he has got to swing. Slight arm bend there. A swing to hand stand.
:38:52. > :39:03.In the double pike. Back up rise to the Maltese. And the crucifix. Great
:39:04. > :39:10.strength work. Just lacking a bit on the swing. Back up rise to the top.
:39:11. > :39:19.No problem there. Swing back to hand stand. Locks out. Full twist in the
:39:20. > :39:44.double straight. What a start for him. Powerful work.
:39:45. > :39:51.Lovely strength and power. For me just lost form in his legs
:39:52. > :39:58.occasionally when he swung. But that, you see just like there, you
:39:59. > :40:03.can see slightly bent knees. But the swing to strength positions were
:40:04. > :40:08.great. Again just that little bit bent knees as he put the twist into
:40:09. > :40:11.the dismount. There is a deduction for chest pointing to the floor. He
:40:12. > :40:32.will have got that. He scored 14.86 in qualifying. I
:40:33. > :40:36.think the swinging part of the routine let him down. He was a bit
:40:37. > :40:41.clunky on the double pike front and you look at that hand stand, a bit
:40:42. > :40:50.of an arch in the back. A bit of an elbow bend. There were places for
:40:51. > :41:08.the judges to be able to deduct. They're often very close the scores
:41:09. > :41:15.on rings. 14.858. So the expert on the rings Petrounias, the Olympic
:41:16. > :41:23.champion. Defending his European title. One of the most difficult
:41:24. > :41:57.routines in this ring final. European, world and Olympic
:41:58. > :42:06.champion. Circled straight round to the top. Not even a flicker. To the
:42:07. > :42:17.Maltese. And again from the back up rise. Three in a row. Got to see
:42:18. > :42:22.some swing. Circle to hand stand backwards. Got to keep the rings
:42:23. > :42:34.still. Solid in the back up rise to top. Into the crucifix. Opening of
:42:35. > :42:41.the hands. Proving how strong he is. That is the front somersault,
:42:42. > :42:47.straight to the krubgs fix. Em-- crucifix. Double pike. Straight to
:42:48. > :42:57.hand stand. He has got good swing as well. Just needs a good dismount. A
:42:58. > :43:01.slight adjustment. That was a performance from Petrounias of
:43:02. > :43:06.Greece. Fantastic work. He is the Olympic champion and he looked every
:43:07. > :43:18.inch the champion on those rings. The complete master.
:43:19. > :43:23.Look at the shoulders, absolutely in line with the rings and the hands
:43:24. > :43:31.and the way he holds the hands open to show he doesn't need to grip the
:43:32. > :43:37.rings. Super double twist in the dismount. Just the slightest shuffle
:43:38. > :43:44.of the feet. He had three tenths space between first and second in
:43:45. > :43:58.qualification. 15.366. I think the coach thinks he has done it.
:43:59. > :44:07.Looks like they're having a party, in the house! Yes. And we are in a
:44:08. > :44:17.box room in Salford. Love it! And it looks like it could well be 15.433.
:44:18. > :44:23.Huge defendanty. -- difficulty. From the Ukraine he watched his team mate
:44:24. > :44:34.win the all-round title yesterday. Can he take a rings medal home?
:44:35. > :44:51.European champion. In 2013. On this piece of apparatus and what a pow
:44:52. > :44:59.erful gymnast. Straight round. Flat in the Maltese. That's good. Into
:45:00. > :45:07.the crucifix, maybe a little high first. Got to get straight to these
:45:08. > :45:14.positions. Good solid hand stand. Rings locked out. Double pike.
:45:15. > :45:15.Swings into the inverted crucifix. Difficult to control and connects to
:45:16. > :45:33.a lovely Maltese. Top planche again, up into
:45:34. > :45:40.handstand. Rings locked, fixed, winds up for the dismount, double
:45:41. > :45:45.twisting double back! Good solid ring performance, Trump will be
:45:46. > :45:49.happy with that. Very nice dismount. -- Radivilov will be happy with
:45:50. > :46:06.that. Very experienced gymnast, very
:46:07. > :46:11.strong and powerful. You can see the muscle development in the shoulders
:46:12. > :46:22.and back, look Caiuby hand guards just hook over the rings. -- look
:46:23. > :46:25.how the. Love this double twist in the double tuck, really beautiful
:46:26. > :46:35.technique, steadies his arms out for the landing. We are used to seeing
:46:36. > :46:39.him on the vault, actually. At the 2012 Olympics, he picked up the
:46:40. > :46:43.bronze medal, silver and bronze on the vault in the European
:46:44. > :46:50.Championships, so a very powerful, dynamic gymnast suited to those
:46:51. > :47:01.explosive pieces of apparatus. Such a high level. It is tremendous, and
:47:02. > :47:09.it is one of the pieces where, in the main, unless they wobble... So
:47:10. > :47:14.15.033, that is a big score, into second place, 6.3 difficulty. And
:47:15. > :47:23.now a big moment for Courtney Tulloch from Great Britain, a member
:47:24. > :47:26.of the Pegasus gymnastic club, a team-mate of James Hall, who grasp
:47:27. > :47:31.this opportunity and took a bronze medal yesterday. He will be
:47:32. > :47:43.desperate to get up there as well. Such an opportunity. Courtney
:47:44. > :47:48.Tulloch has taken it out, look at that, immensely strong, from under
:47:49. > :47:51.the rings, pressed a straight up into the inverted crucifix, back
:47:52. > :48:00.down again, press to crucifix, Maltese top planche, this is
:48:01. > :48:11.extraordinary! Strong work, Maltese, shoulders flat, now canny with the
:48:12. > :48:20.swing? Layout forwards to handstand. Straight into the top planche. Into
:48:21. > :48:26.crucifix. This is a challenge, come on, Courtney Tulloch!
:48:27. > :48:36.Double pike, straight into Maltese, you can see how much this means to
:48:37. > :48:42.him, lock the arms, hang on for the dismount. Full twisting in double
:48:43. > :48:48.straight, what about that?! Get in there, Courtney Tulloch! Wow, what a
:48:49. > :48:55.performance, such a great rings worker, really great technician.
:48:56. > :49:07.Coach really pleased with the performance. He holds those strength
:49:08. > :49:12.positions so confidently and so emphatically, just that little Herve
:49:13. > :49:21.pace on the dismount, but that was a very strong performance. He has got
:49:22. > :49:31.to go well into the 15s to have a chance to medal. He certainly will
:49:32. > :49:36.have, but if you talk about sheer strength, pound for pound, he is
:49:37. > :49:41.packed with it. So difficult to explain how strong you have to be to
:49:42. > :49:47.perform those skills on the rings. You know, people are sat at home,
:49:48. > :49:51.saying, I can go to the gym and bench press 200 kilograms - that is
:49:52. > :49:56.nothing in comparison to what these guys are doing up there, that is
:49:57. > :50:02.absolutely phenomenal work. And so great to have a British ring worker
:50:03. > :50:07.in this European final. Yeah, it has been a long time since we have had a
:50:08. > :50:11.gymnast of this quality on the rings, it has been one of the pieces
:50:12. > :50:21.that we have had to make up ground on, really. Fantastic! 15.066,
:50:22. > :50:24.second place with just one gymnast to go, well done, Courtney Tulloch!
:50:25. > :50:25.second place with just one gymnast to go, well done, Courtney fantastic
:50:26. > :50:48.performance. Brendan Cole arc from Turkey, Turkey
:50:49. > :51:01.have been very impressive this championships. -- Ibrahim Colak. 22
:51:02. > :51:11.years of age, qualified in seventh, 14.733 in qualification. Let's see
:51:12. > :51:17.what he can do now. Top planche. Lock those arms, a little bit of a
:51:18. > :51:23.twist on the body in the Maltese but level with the rings. Top planche
:51:24. > :51:33.again, you can see the strain, it is not easy. Good in the swing, better
:51:34. > :51:39.in the strength there. Crucifix. A little bit low.
:51:40. > :51:45.That is the front somersault, holding into crucifix, a little bit
:51:46. > :51:55.high then lowering into that position, so that is a deduction.
:51:56. > :52:03.Needs to lock the handstand out. Another double pike, adjustment on
:52:04. > :52:10.landing. Well, strong work, but not quite the immense power we have seen
:52:11. > :52:13.from one or two of the others. Certainly not, I don't think it
:52:14. > :52:20.would be good enough to challenge for a medal today. Nevertheless, a
:52:21. > :52:33.reasonable performance. But we could see history again. Well, it has
:52:34. > :52:40.certainly been a championships for firsts. Lovely line, this gymnast.
:52:41. > :52:46.Again, like you are saying, such a difficult dismount to nail.
:52:47. > :53:14.Completelyunsighted. Well, whatever happens, Courtney
:53:15. > :53:19.Tulloch has got a medal. 14.833 for fifth-place for Turkey, so
:53:20. > :53:24.Petrounias retains his title, and other gold medal for Greece, and a
:53:25. > :53:32.medal on the rings for Great Britain as well, and look at that
:53:33. > :53:40.celebration, wow! First for Greece, Petrounias, Courtney Tulloch is
:53:41. > :53:46.second, Radivilov is third, a bit of a scalp. Tell us what this means to
:53:47. > :53:51.you. It means a lot, I have come forth, just missed out on medals in
:53:52. > :53:56.a few competitions now, and I did not want that to happen again, so I
:53:57. > :54:01.have gone back to the gym, trained so hard. I have had a lot of help
:54:02. > :54:05.along the way, through good parts and the bad parts, but I want to
:54:06. > :54:10.thank everyone that has helped me, really happy. I am sure you are
:54:11. > :54:15.aware that you have made a British slice of gymnastic history. Yeah,
:54:16. > :54:19.before I came out, I heard that, amazing, we are not really known for
:54:20. > :54:24.rings, but I want to keep improving that, and hopefully there will be
:54:25. > :54:30.some little gymnasts who can follow in my footsteps and we can become a
:54:31. > :54:34.great nation on rings. You are only 21 yourself, plenty of years to go,
:54:35. > :54:39.and the only man who could beat you was the Olympic champion. You have
:54:40. > :54:43.put a target on his back. He did well today, but I felt a lot more
:54:44. > :54:47.confident at there, I don't really look at anyone else and fear them,
:54:48. > :54:54.he did an amazing routine, but I know I can catch him, I have got
:54:55. > :55:00.skills to add in my routine, so I am not scared of him, I know I can beat
:55:01. > :55:03.him, I can't wait to go to the World Championships and have another
:55:04. > :55:11.battle, go at it again. We can't wait for that as well, this
:55:12. > :55:16.was the moment that Courtney got that medal. The first ever rings
:55:17. > :55:20.medal at an international competition, and that is the colour
:55:21. > :55:27.of it, silver, fighting talk again, and he had the hardest difficulty in
:55:28. > :55:32.that final as well, up against the Olympic champion, and to hear him
:55:33. > :55:37.say he has got more difficulty as well, Kristian. It is scary how much
:55:38. > :55:42.he can do on the rings, we have to remember that he is fairly young for
:55:43. > :55:46.a rings specialist, so he has more of that mature strength to come down
:55:47. > :55:51.the line. Very exciting, I have seen what he can do in training, he has
:55:52. > :55:55.got his own skill, the Gloria, that he can put into that routine as
:55:56. > :55:59.well. We're starting to nip at the heels of Petrounias, so he is
:56:00. > :56:07.setting a benchmark and can hopefully push onto the World
:56:08. > :56:10.Championships. We will have another look at his routine, because as well
:56:11. > :56:16.as being incredibly strong,, he is so well suited in his body type.
:56:17. > :56:21.Definitely, you tend to find most people in the rings final are suited
:56:22. > :56:26.to it, because of their body type. But the strength positions that he
:56:27. > :56:29.is holding, they are all of high values, every single skill within
:56:30. > :56:34.this routine, so he does a great job to continue it from start to finish,
:56:35. > :56:41.no wobbling, solid as anything. If he can continue to do this, he has
:56:42. > :56:47.got a big future and of him. So at the end of day two, Beth, with five
:56:48. > :56:52.medals, gold, two silvers, two bronze, I don't really know what
:56:53. > :56:57.Team GB were hoping for, but at the end of day two, with another day to
:56:58. > :57:00.go, looking very promising. The coaches will be really happy with
:57:01. > :57:05.it, because you never know, coming into a new cycle with new faces
:57:06. > :57:09.coming through, often it would be going out to get experience and not
:57:10. > :57:17.expecting gold medals left, right and centre, so five medals, and
:57:18. > :57:26.still another six finals tomorrow? James on high bar, Becky Downie or
:57:27. > :57:34.perhaps Claudia Fragapane, and then Claudia on floor. It is really
:57:35. > :57:38.reiterating how strong British Gymnastics is at the moment, not
:57:39. > :57:43.just the Cork team, so many members looking up to the older ones, like
:57:44. > :57:47.Kristian and Max, you heard Courtney saying, I have finished fourth so
:57:48. > :57:51.many times, I don't want to sit in that position. They have got their
:57:52. > :57:56.role models. I think that is what I have been impressed with most, the
:57:57. > :58:06.mental focus and a real passion for it, Kristian. And I think what
:58:07. > :58:09.Courtney was saying epitomises that, Great Britain are not just going to
:58:10. > :58:12.participate, to take part - they are going to win medals, which is
:58:13. > :58:17.crucial for the future. You can see the whole event live tomorrow from
:58:18. > :58:23.11:25 on the BBC Sport website, through the BBC Sport app, the red
:58:24. > :58:29.button from 12:30. If you miss any of that, there will be highlights
:58:30. > :58:35.here on BBC Two at 10:30 on Monday morning. Coming up next on BBC Two,
:58:36. > :58:40.World Championship snooker, and at 10am tomorrow, you can watch the
:58:41. > :58:44.decisive day of tennis in the Fed Cup as Great Britain take on
:58:45. > :58:50.Romania. Join us tomorrow, plenty more gymnastics to get your teeth
:58:51. > :58:54.into from Transylvania. From all of us here, it is goodbye.
