:00:50. > :00:55.Welcome to highlights of the final day of action from the European
:00:56. > :00:58.gymnastics Championships in a maniac and whilst it's been a relatively
:00:59. > :01:03.new and young team competing for Great Britain the results have been
:01:04. > :01:06.everything we could have hoped for and the medals are just kept on
:01:07. > :01:26.rolling and? In Romania. I tell you what, it is on! Well done
:01:27. > :01:37.James, what a fantastic performance. James Hall makes his mark with a
:01:38. > :01:41.bronze medal. Well than Ellie, fantastic result. Plenty of
:01:42. > :01:50.supporters. And they have had plenty to shout about. Get in the Courtney
:01:51. > :01:56.Tulloch! Making history! Silver medal. What a Championships she is
:01:57. > :02:03.having. What about that! Magnificent! Great finish, that was
:02:04. > :02:06.excellent! Ellie Downie has done it! She is the new women's all-around
:02:07. > :02:14.European champion! And we are just halfway through the
:02:15. > :02:20.championships with lots more still to come. We will talk through all
:02:21. > :02:27.the action and are joined by Beth Tweddle and Christian Thomas. As you
:02:28. > :02:32.are of the men's team, what's it been like to observe this from home
:02:33. > :02:37.and watching how well the team have done? It has been incredible, I
:02:38. > :02:41.think they have exceeded expectations, they have stepped up
:02:42. > :02:43.to the mark and performed well, consistently and they have left a
:02:44. > :02:49.stamp on these championships without a doubt. They have done exceedingly
:02:50. > :02:55.well, James in the all-around went out there, took the all-around
:02:56. > :03:00.bronze medal, Courtney Tulloch on the rings... Did you expect that? I
:03:01. > :03:04.was quietly confident, I knew what he was capable of in training, he
:03:05. > :03:07.goes about his business in a controlled and confident manner and
:03:08. > :03:12.you could see that in his approach to the final. He got stronger as the
:03:13. > :03:19.competition went on. And young Joe Fraser alongside, again, absolutely
:03:20. > :03:23.brilliant, he has made the transition from Junior up to senior.
:03:24. > :03:28.They gave him an opportunity and he ran with it and he did well to
:03:29. > :03:33.finish Beth. Talking of someone making the transition from junior to
:03:34. > :03:38.senior, Ellie Downie, she has been gobsmacking. Unbelievable. To come
:03:39. > :03:42.into these championships, you never know with it being a new cycle you
:03:43. > :03:46.don't know what new faces will be around, what the teams will be
:03:47. > :03:53.scoring so you are going in blind. She has come out so composed and so
:03:54. > :03:58.far has done, I cannot even work out in my head, ten out of ten routines
:03:59. > :04:02.without any mistakes. That's all you can ask from your gymnasts. But then
:04:03. > :04:06.you have the younger member, Alice going into the all-around with
:04:07. > :04:12.little notice she was even coming out to the Championships and very
:04:13. > :04:18.much like Joe has took it in her stride and is going to show us what
:04:19. > :04:23.she can do. Ellie making headlines all over the world. Five more
:04:24. > :04:28.finals, Dominic Cunningham involved, Claudia Fragapane involved, and
:04:29. > :04:43.James Hall in the high bar final which we will see later but we start
:04:44. > :04:53.on the vault. Dominic Cunningham involved.
:04:54. > :05:10.COMMENTATOR: The first gymnast to go. The judges are ready. Compact,
:05:11. > :05:21.powerful gymnast. Wraps it, superb! Triple twisting. He gets the final
:05:22. > :05:26.underway. You looked up to the sky because they do not come much better
:05:27. > :05:35.than that. What a perfect start, he has nailed about troubled West. That
:05:36. > :05:37.is three twists. -- he has nailed that troubled West. Landed on the
:05:38. > :05:56.match exactly where he wanted to be. Just over 15 the score, an enormous
:05:57. > :06:10.first vault and could well have given him the extra that he needs to
:06:11. > :06:17.help with the second vault. So as we said, two vaults and the averages
:06:18. > :06:25.taken so this is vital if he wants to get another medal. He took silver
:06:26. > :06:32.in the all-around. Last chance. Need something big, strong and powerful
:06:33. > :06:41.approach, the handspring, what a challenge! Very difficult to land I
:06:42. > :06:49.am sure you will agree. Yes, handspring approach, had to split
:06:50. > :06:53.his legs and bend them slightly, not going to get much better than that I
:06:54. > :06:56.have to say. I'm the first man up in the final, setting the tone like
:06:57. > :07:09.that will put the pressure on the rest of the gymnasts who will
:07:10. > :07:14.follow. He will be happy with that! Please welcome Dominic Cunningham,
:07:15. > :07:27.Great Britain! Now it is the turn of Dom Cunningham, Great Britain, 21
:07:28. > :07:32.years old. A fired up gymnast. He is very spatially aware. The two and a
:07:33. > :07:39.half twists, unfortunate on the landing, this step forward, the
:07:40. > :07:44.plunge will be costly but not too bad an opening vault. He did not
:07:45. > :07:50.quite get the left he wanted so troubled a bit further. You can see
:07:51. > :07:56.on the replay. Did not quite get the block on the second-hand and then a
:07:57. > :08:01.bit of height lacking to get the twists in. But it's a good start to
:08:02. > :08:18.his final. 14, fair score? Yes, he was probably
:08:19. > :08:27.hoping for a better landing but a pretty solid start. Can you give us
:08:28. > :08:34.the heads up on his second vault? Eight triple
:08:35. > :08:48.a harder difficulty. Big vault. Blocks in, two and three quarters,
:08:49. > :08:51.not just rounding up, that will be heavily deducted. You can see the
:08:52. > :08:59.look on his face, two and three quarters is not a triple. But this
:09:00. > :09:08.is great experience for him. He came into high, are they going to give
:09:09. > :09:12.the trouble? Or poorly. It's going to be tight for the judges, he's
:09:13. > :09:18.left them with a few questions but in the air very clean. At least he
:09:19. > :09:35.managed to find his feet. The all-around champion this year,
:09:36. > :09:40.current European vault champion, has had the benefit of watching all of
:09:41. > :09:46.the previous gymnasts go. He knows what he needs to do and how
:09:47. > :09:54.difficult he needs to go, opting for a 5.6 to start with. It's a big
:09:55. > :10:01.vault and a big ask. A slight adjustment online thing but so
:10:02. > :10:05.impressive. That's a relatively easy for him. Look how smooth it is.
:10:06. > :10:37.Plenty of height, kicking out from the have to West. -- from the have
:10:38. > :10:53.this needs to be a big vault if he wants to retain the European title.
:10:54. > :11:05.15.066 the current leaders scored. 5.6 difficulty, going to be good,
:11:06. > :11:11.that is a triple twist. Slight adjustment on landing. He has laid
:11:12. > :11:24.down the challenge. Did not get the height. Strong approach. Just the
:11:25. > :11:35.one step out, it will be a deduction but other than that very clean.
:11:36. > :11:42.He is in a silver medal position at the moment. But no doubt this man
:11:43. > :11:52.will have something to say about that. The crowd roar as the
:11:53. > :11:58.four-time world champion, three-time European vault champion is back. No
:11:59. > :12:07.doubt he will want to give them a bit of a firework display. Gets the
:12:08. > :12:17.big one, handspring, double front half turn, slight adjustment online
:12:18. > :12:26.thing. What a challenge. -- on landing. Bit of a step on the
:12:27. > :12:38.landing, judges will take deductions. Still quite clean in the
:12:39. > :12:52.air. I think perhaps will score a bit lower. Nine for execution. It
:12:53. > :13:01.will be a different entry to the platform. Two and a half twists. He
:13:02. > :13:08.has certainly laid a challenge. Is it good enough to go into first
:13:09. > :13:12.place? We will have to wait and see. His lead shoulder not quite all the
:13:13. > :13:23.way around. Definitely two and a half twists.
:13:24. > :13:36.He matches what he did last year, taking the silver medal. That means
:13:37. > :13:47.the first gymnast to go is the new European vault champion. Sum up the
:13:48. > :13:52.experience? It has been great, to make the final is immensely hard out
:13:53. > :13:57.here. It's great to have made both finals. To come out here and compete
:13:58. > :14:01.in a whole different world gymnastics, no warm up before the
:14:02. > :14:08.competition, it's been great to be out here. Many more to come I hope.
:14:09. > :14:11.You have been working hard to get here, you are 21, what are your
:14:12. > :14:20.hopes for the rest of the year and going forward? I'm going to work as
:14:21. > :14:24.hard as I can when I get back home, that's what I will be doing, working
:14:25. > :14:32.really hard to get back into the team. You have got your work cut out
:14:33. > :14:35.to stay in the team Kristian. There is real fighting talk within the
:14:36. > :14:38.team about what is possible as far as the World Championships are
:14:39. > :14:42.concerned but interesting hearing him talk about a whole new world of
:14:43. > :14:46.gymnastics, going out without a warm up and having to produce the goods
:14:47. > :14:51.straightaway. And the young Russian had the opportunity of being the
:14:52. > :14:58.first gymnast up so he was pretty fresh out of the blocks. But the
:14:59. > :15:05.skill level on this first vault. The first man up, first vault, not many
:15:06. > :15:11.who can do it as good as that. This was just, look at how he opens out.
:15:12. > :15:15.Does not get much better than that. Making his way into the Russian team
:15:16. > :15:26.as a youngster, again, without a warm up. Big powerful vault. Again,
:15:27. > :15:31.solid landing. And a tough act to follow for all of the gymnasts, to
:15:32. > :15:37.burst of go out there, that was the gold medal performance.
:15:38. > :15:42.Most of them probably were not watching but they will see the
:15:43. > :15:46.scoreboard, and if they don't, the coaches will tell them. To see that
:15:47. > :15:50.score, they will be thinking, I've really got to do my best
:15:51. > :15:56.performance. But sometimes that raises your game. If you see people
:15:57. > :16:02.perform, it puts pressure on, to go on and take the title. Marian
:16:03. > :16:07.Dragulescu is 36, vastly experienced, he knew exactly what he
:16:08. > :16:11.had to do. He ended up taking the silver medal. Let's treat ourselves
:16:12. > :16:17.to another look. He was so for this in front of the home crowd. He loves
:16:18. > :16:21.it, he has always been a performer. Since his comeback, he genuinely
:16:22. > :16:25.loves what he does. He has the interaction with the crowd, the fact
:16:26. > :16:35.it was a home crowd, he played up to it. As soon as he finished his
:16:36. > :16:41.vault, he celebrated... That vault is named after him. The second
:16:42. > :16:46.vault, with two and a half, such big difficulty. You can see the little
:16:47. > :16:52.pace on landing. He has a bit of time, a bit of form lost, but he has
:16:53. > :16:56.a few months to consolidate both of those vaults ready for the World
:16:57. > :17:02.Championships. It was great to see Niger, net in the audience. Just
:17:03. > :17:08.celebrating with them. -- Nadia Comaneci in the audience. And the
:17:09. > :17:13.aeroplane celebration. Now we will move onto beam, and we expected to
:17:14. > :17:18.see Becky Downie in the final, but because of what happened on bars,
:17:19. > :17:22.she is sitting this out. She had a small fall, a bit too much pressure
:17:23. > :17:29.through the arms. The British team decided to pull her out, but luckily
:17:30. > :17:32.Claudia in ninth position show she will come in. Becky is going to get
:17:33. > :17:40.a scan, and they will keep an eye on her. Ellie Downie is also in this
:17:41. > :17:44.final, she made every final. Quite a performance for British gymnastics.
:17:45. > :17:48.Another gymnast to keep an eye on, Catalina Ponor, who has been in and
:17:49. > :17:54.out of retirement for the latter part of her career. A trip down
:17:55. > :17:59.memory lane for you. Competing in the 2004 Athens Olympics, where she
:18:00. > :18:03.took gold. Of course she wanted a superb performance in front of her
:18:04. > :18:03.home crowd at this European Championships. Well, she didn't
:18:04. > :18:17.disappoint. COMMENTATOR: Larisa Iordache, the
:18:18. > :18:31.highest qualifier. European champion.
:18:32. > :18:40.The Romanian gymnasts are renowned for good pace. Working speedily.
:18:41. > :18:44.Nicely joined the first two jumps, a leap and a jumper. Very positive on
:18:45. > :18:56.the landing of the free cartwheel. She works with good rhythm so can
:18:57. > :18:57.pack a locked into the beam routine. The big series, negotiated well. --
:18:58. > :19:03.a lot. Strong in the free walked over, just
:19:04. > :19:14.a little pause. Barely a wobble, but not quite good
:19:15. > :19:19.enough to link to the next element. Very nice change of legs. Gymnasts
:19:20. > :19:24.have to include at least three non-acrobatic skills. She has done
:19:25. > :19:30.two difficult leaps and a difficult double spin.
:19:31. > :19:39.We have seen plenty of acrobatic skills already, there's beside
:19:40. > :19:43.somersault. Lovely pace. -- the side somersault.
:19:44. > :19:54.Iordache has already had an excellent dismount. -- always had.
:19:55. > :20:02.Backflip, triple twist. Oh, she held onto the landing. But until then, it
:20:03. > :20:09.was a really good performance. At least 0.8 for the run backwards.
:20:10. > :20:15.What a shame. That routine was really well constructive. The free
:20:16. > :20:22.cartwheel, no wobble. Picking up lots of difficulty. The big series,
:20:23. > :20:30.the flick into the full somersault. The camera missed it. And the double
:20:31. > :20:37.spin. The feet were slightly over rotated, but she covers it. And then
:20:38. > :20:41.into the triple twist. Slightly with her weight behind her, but she
:20:42. > :20:52.managed to pull it back onto her feet. What a shame.
:20:53. > :20:58.Iordache in gold medal position at the moment. Strong competition still
:20:59. > :21:02.to come. Britain's Claudia Fragapane. Replacing the injured
:21:03. > :21:13.Becky Downie. She was fourth at the European
:21:14. > :21:17.Championships in 2015 on this piece. To come in as a late replacement,
:21:18. > :21:22.just coming back to full fitness, just working two pieces here. The
:21:23. > :21:24.standing Arabian, beautifully performed. A blind landing. Nicely
:21:25. > :21:37.done. Two jumps. The acrobatic series, the backflips,
:21:38. > :21:42.oh, a straight somersault and that is very uncharacteristic for
:21:43. > :21:44.Claudia. Last season, we saw her complete that element with a full
:21:45. > :21:56.twist, so this was a bit easier. It is a very difficult format for
:21:57. > :22:00.the gymnasts, no warm-up on the apparatus in the arena. Lovely full
:22:01. > :22:04.twisting back somersault from the standing position. So powerful, so
:22:05. > :22:10.quick. One of the non-acrobatic moves to be included.
:22:11. > :22:14.Has gained a lot in terms of maturity and positive performance.
:22:15. > :22:24.This is much classier. The experience of Strictly Come
:22:25. > :22:31.Dancing is certainly showing here. Very expressive arms. Two flips into
:22:32. > :22:35.a double twist. That is a great shame, because other than the fall,
:22:36. > :22:41.it was a very polished performance. It was. It looked very classy. The
:22:42. > :22:45.standing Arabian, so difficult, the blind landing. This is where the
:22:46. > :22:52.error came in. The flip into the straight somersault and the front
:22:53. > :22:57.foot came off to the side. Unfortunately, not a lot you can do
:22:58. > :23:06.to save that. Well, she is in third with a fall.
:23:07. > :23:16.Yet another final for Great Britain's Ellie Downie. 17 years
:23:17. > :23:23.old. All around champion here. Silver on floor, bronze on bars.
:23:24. > :23:27.This was the piece in the all-around that she said she was a little shaky
:23:28. > :23:30.on, but she has been so tough in these championships. Always
:23:31. > :23:39.difficult, the beam. Lovely- somersault. It's the peace
:23:40. > :23:41.where there is the least margin for error, and this is a very difficult
:23:42. > :23:51.skill. Beautifully done. You just don't see
:23:52. > :23:56.the beam, you have to trust you have taken off in a straight line.
:23:57. > :24:06.The skills she had a big wobble on in the all-around, clearly done this
:24:07. > :24:19.time. Lovely double spin. The acrobatic series that has to be
:24:20. > :24:25.included, one flip, one layout, just a little wobble, but fighting hard.
:24:26. > :24:29.All about a strong core, and body tension. Split leap.
:24:30. > :24:36.Free cartwheel. Good discipline with the arms. A bit of a sideways dance
:24:37. > :24:47.that has to be included. The two and a half twists, a great
:24:48. > :24:54.landing. That was a truly mature performance of a champion.
:24:55. > :25:03.She started well with the standing Arabian. Used the double spin, where
:25:04. > :25:08.she had the problem in the all-around, but she sorted it out
:25:09. > :25:13.today. Such a great routine. Two and a half twists, performed so well.
:25:14. > :25:18.Her coach, very pleased with that routine. A couple of connections she
:25:19. > :25:21.maybe would have hoped to get that she didn't get today, but a very
:25:22. > :25:38.positive routine. She is in second. That's quite a scalp for her, ahead
:25:39. > :25:40.of Weavers. Peruse the performances have not been a flash in the pan at
:25:41. > :25:49.all. -- proves the performances. We still have Thorsdottir and Kovacs
:25:50. > :25:56.to go in this final. 18-year-old Thorsdottir. The second
:25:57. > :26:16.Dutch gymnast in these finals. Very interesting, the leap into the
:26:17. > :26:24.free cartwheel. The Korbut flip, named after Olga Korbut. Extremely
:26:25. > :26:28.artistic, this gymnast. Elegant. Lovely and supple, she took her head
:26:29. > :26:35.right back and touched it with her foot. Extra points for that. And a
:26:36. > :26:40.very difficult illusion turn. She really does look like she is dancing
:26:41. > :26:46.on the beam. Quite a different style to some of the other gymnasts we
:26:47. > :26:58.have seen. Smooth free walked over, brilliant discipline with the arms.
:26:59. > :27:04.Lovely spin with the leg up, but just a single.
:27:05. > :27:17.We haven't seen masses of acrobatics, but usually a big
:27:18. > :27:22.dismount, triple twist and very clean. That dismount is whether a
:27:23. > :27:29.lot. I would be surprised if that is not our top scorer so far. A very
:27:30. > :27:33.classy performance. The first connection, what a gorgeous
:27:34. > :27:36.connection, very original. She dances the whole routine, every
:27:37. > :27:43.skill is incorporated into the artistry. The spin they have to
:27:44. > :27:48.show. Then she takes a break before going into the next connection. The
:27:49. > :27:54.big dismount, the round off into the triple twist, just a step back but a
:27:55. > :28:01.great routine. It is a golden smile at the moment.
:28:02. > :28:11.Ellie Downie still in bronze medal position. 13.433.
:28:12. > :28:21.Now the former Olympic champion and European champion four times over
:28:22. > :28:26.the mounts the beam. A very positive start from Catalina Ponor. One of
:28:27. > :28:32.the great acquis workers over the years. Look at the speed of the
:28:33. > :28:39.backflip and two layouts. Super supple. Lovely combination. This
:28:40. > :28:44.really is a pacey routine. No hanging about.
:28:45. > :28:50.This is what makes the gymnasts look confident on beam. There is a mark
:28:51. > :28:59.for mastery of the apparatus. This case and confidence...
:29:00. > :29:06.Comes from an era where Romanian gymnastics was dominant. The half
:29:07. > :29:13.turn into the forward walk over. Holds it well. That was a bit of a
:29:14. > :29:22.challenge. After all the fast work, to hold the handstand...
:29:23. > :29:29.Strong free walk over. The split jump with the head back, the sort of
:29:30. > :29:33.things the judges have to decide whether the head went far enough
:29:34. > :29:34.back. Certainly in terms of performance, this has been very
:29:35. > :29:46.confident. The double pike, a pace back but
:29:47. > :29:56.that was fabulous beam work. So very, very impressive. 29 years old.
:29:57. > :30:01.Wow. 14.066 the score to beat, Nadia Comaneci joining in the applause.
:30:02. > :30:09.The sheer respect for being able to do that... If you look at her
:30:10. > :30:13.routine from 2004, the skills in it haven't changed massively. She has
:30:14. > :30:19.maybe changed the construction of it. Interestingly in qualification
:30:20. > :30:22.she scored 14.066, so interesting to see what the judges do with it. The
:30:23. > :30:31.first combination was so confident, the flick, layout, layout. Gymnasts
:30:32. > :30:36.who get the three elements together get a serious bonus. The blind
:30:37. > :30:40.landing into the leap, straight into the three quarters flick. She had to
:30:41. > :30:47.hold it, and the big dismount. Just a big step on the landing, but
:30:48. > :30:51.fantastic routine. I think that would go into first position. Nadia
:30:52. > :30:55.Comaneci, very pleased with that. This Romanian crowd is not going to
:30:56. > :31:00.be happy if that is not the golden performance at the moment. That is
:31:01. > :31:05.very true. She had loads of pressure on her shoulders. The Romanian women
:31:06. > :31:12.haven't had a medal, haven't even had a sniff so far. She knows how
:31:13. > :31:18.much everyone is depending on her. A huge performance under absolute
:31:19. > :31:22.pressure. Just the relief that it went her way is the emotion she is
:31:23. > :31:26.feeling at the moment. We just have to have it confirmed from the
:31:27. > :31:33.judges. That that is the best performance so far... We all think
:31:34. > :31:35.it is. She has had a long journey to get back to the fitness she is at.
:31:36. > :31:50.It looks very good! She is in gold medal position, what
:31:51. > :31:56.an emotional moment for her, she has been on the scene for so long. You
:31:57. > :32:01.must always be thinking about when to retire but to have a European
:32:02. > :32:07.Championships, at home, then you just keep on going. And to produce
:32:08. > :32:12.gymnastics in that way with that grace and that skill, it's a
:32:13. > :32:16.beautiful thing to watch. So the results... For the fourth time she
:32:17. > :32:36.becomes European beam champion. You could sense the relief that
:32:37. > :32:42.everything happened just the way she wanted it to in front of the home
:32:43. > :32:47.crowd. It was very much like the floor, you could see how much it
:32:48. > :32:51.meant to them, they had different journeys, coming in and out of
:32:52. > :32:56.retirement but they are so proud to represent their country. It meant a
:32:57. > :33:07.lot to be stood on that podium. And she did not hold back, going through
:33:08. > :33:13.at an incredible pace. They are very confident, you would never think
:33:14. > :33:17.they are nervous. The somersault connection, building the difficulty
:33:18. > :33:22.straightaway. The thing is her routine has not changed massively
:33:23. > :33:26.since 2004. This kills sheep farms are very much the same skills may
:33:27. > :33:30.just put together in a different way so I think that is why it has worked
:33:31. > :33:35.to her advantage. It's great to see the confidence with her now, it's
:33:36. > :33:40.taken a couple of years to get that back. This is what she was like in
:33:41. > :33:44.2004. When you watched her in training, I remember watching her in
:33:45. > :33:49.2003 she was just the reserve and I were still in all, she did ten
:33:50. > :33:59.routines and did not flutter. They are she had to fight and you know
:34:00. > :34:11.she has done it thousands of times. You have experienced the show in the
:34:12. > :34:16.gym haven't you? Yes, what struck me was the lack of hesitation. Full of
:34:17. > :34:25.confidence. No adjustments or a wobbling. You can see it is nice
:34:26. > :34:33.even though she has been, she has not lost the natural touch or
:34:34. > :34:39.ability. Third in the end, maybe we expected more but that this might,
:34:40. > :34:43.she was looking so good. It's such a shame, the whole routine, she has
:34:44. > :34:48.had a couple of tough years, she did not go to Rio and was really
:34:49. > :34:52.disappointed. She came out so confident, qualified in top position
:34:53. > :34:57.and we thought she had it. Went for the best mind which is normally so
:34:58. > :35:00.Steve, had a few staggers and staggered off the side of the map
:35:01. > :35:06.and as soon as she presented you could see the disappointment. Fair
:35:07. > :35:12.to say LA Dhoni did better than expected, finishing fourth in that
:35:13. > :35:16.company. It is amazing, her confidence has kept growing. Each
:35:17. > :35:23.medal giving her more and more and she is coming back out fighting. For
:35:24. > :35:30.Amanda and her personal coaches, she is a huge competitor and she loves
:35:31. > :35:35.the pressure and the atmosphere and to be able to do it on the fourth
:35:36. > :35:41.day of competition and so she is still on top of the world is great.
:35:42. > :35:46.No British interest in this final but still a wealth of top-class
:35:47. > :35:49.talent on show. We knew it was going to be close and so did the reigning
:35:50. > :36:07.Olympic champion. The German now 29 years old. The
:36:08. > :36:16.door is open for him as the highest qualifier. Scored 15.166 in
:36:17. > :36:24.qualification. The score to beat is 14.633 for the gold medal. If you
:36:25. > :36:36.liked variety on the parallel bar as this is a routine to watch. Style as
:36:37. > :36:46.well. Slight adjustment, better in the turn. Nice in the double back,
:36:47. > :36:51.plenty of kick out. It's what the judges look for, all the way round,
:36:52. > :36:58.and again, front up rise into the double back. Such difficult work.
:36:59. > :37:05.Under somersault, Lockwood straight arms. And again with the half
:37:06. > :37:16.turned. Long swing popping out for good measure and the double back.
:37:17. > :37:22.Exquisite to watch. Double back with the full turned. Super work. Huge
:37:23. > :37:29.difficulty and threw it with relative ease. Plenty of height, the
:37:30. > :37:41.kick as well which the judges want to see. Some very difficult
:37:42. > :37:43.gymnastics. A third double back, so you can see why he is wearing the
:37:44. > :38:05.arm pads. Very unique dismount. He is in gold medal position as it
:38:06. > :38:13.stands. Now his chance to make a mark on the parallel bars. Really
:38:14. > :38:29.come on on the parallel bar is bulls. Strong start. Pops again to
:38:30. > :38:34.handstand. Very clean. Controlled. Front somersault. No problems.
:38:35. > :38:47.Straight to handstand. Great line and extension from the shoulders to
:38:48. > :38:57.the feet. Good struggle front. Wet. High, real variety in this routine.
:38:58. > :39:07.Pops up. Going well so far. Turned. This could really challenge, can he
:39:08. > :39:13.hang on? Slight adjustment. Looks good, looks very, very good. Good
:39:14. > :39:15.height. Absolutely, the struggle front. Important to catch cleanly as
:39:16. > :39:34.well. Leads the competition with 15. He
:39:35. > :39:42.goes into the lead. The youth Olympic champion now. Got himself
:39:43. > :39:54.into the parallel bar final at last year 's Europeans. Needs over 14.633
:39:55. > :40:01.to get into the medals as it stands at the moment. Fluid start. Precise
:40:02. > :40:18.and on the turns. That's the difficult skill.
:40:19. > :40:35.Beautiful transition. One bar back into support. Working well. Solid
:40:36. > :40:41.hands. The little movement will cost, pirouette back in. Needs to
:40:42. > :40:49.hang in the dismount. Double front half turn, slight adjustment.
:40:50. > :40:51.Quarterfinal we are seeing here. Looks so controlled and almost
:40:52. > :41:00.effortless throughout the whole routine. No mistakes are big hand
:41:01. > :41:14.adjustments. For me that should take him top. He punches the air. 15.2
:41:15. > :41:19.66. He leads for now. But this man is capable of very strong bid. The
:41:20. > :41:35.third highest qualifier. People good line in the handstand. Long
:41:36. > :41:53.swing. Nice flight in the long swing. That is powerful gymnastics.
:41:54. > :42:04.Performed cleanly. Slightly over, brushed the parallel bar. Front up
:42:05. > :42:11.rise, need to pick dismount. Double front half turn, slight adjustment
:42:12. > :42:14.but he is happy with that. A few little mistakes the judges will have
:42:15. > :42:23.picked up on two is going to be taken at the top. So difficult. This
:42:24. > :42:27.is the skill will you just brushed the bars, does not look too bad but
:42:28. > :42:39.the judges might have picked up on it. He's gone into the league! 15.3
:42:40. > :42:51.66. It was a huge score. How close is this final? David looking
:42:52. > :42:56.slightly shocked by what he saw. European champion. Olympic bronze
:42:57. > :43:02.medallist. Beautiful, front our Price. -- front our price. Split the
:43:03. > :43:25.legs. -- front very compact, dynamic gymnast.
:43:26. > :43:36.Working well. Slight adjustment. Should have gone to the hand stand.
:43:37. > :43:41.That will be costly full stock got a good dismount, double bonds have to
:43:42. > :43:52.turn. Good routine. But not good enough for me. Doing everything he
:43:53. > :43:59.can to hang on to that title, but 15.366 is a big ask. You can see how
:44:00. > :44:19.high he got. This mode, stuck landing, the judges
:44:20. > :44:33.will pick up on how low the chest was. -- dismount.
:44:34. > :44:41.From one former European champion to another. A silver last year,
:44:42. > :44:49.Verniaiev, on this piece. But he is the fourth highest qualifier. He
:44:50. > :44:52.scored 14.9. Can he do enough? Can he get up into the medals? He has
:44:53. > :45:00.had a long wait. Now is the time. Olympic champion. On this piece of
:45:01. > :45:16.apparatus. A beautiful start. This is the big
:45:17. > :45:19.skill. Clean with the half turn. Under somersault, one bar.
:45:20. > :45:27.He normally does the Healy turn out of there, so he must work well for
:45:28. > :45:31.the rest of the routine. Accurate with the hands. Must fix
:45:32. > :45:59.the shape. Dismount, double front half turn. He
:46:00. > :46:03.lays a challenge. What a routine. Wow.
:46:04. > :46:17.He needed to put that one bar Healy in to put up the difficulty for
:46:18. > :46:22.execution. Up there. With the top routines. This is what you want in
:46:23. > :46:27.an apparatus final. You want the top guys fighting for that position.
:46:28. > :46:35.Would be nice to see him with a medal. He's gone into the lead! He's
:46:36. > :46:42.done it! 15.466. Well, what a performance under severe pressure.
:46:43. > :46:46.He had to watch every single one, and my word, the scores were big,
:46:47. > :46:50.one after another. He just had to watch and wait. And then, by jingo,
:46:51. > :47:01.did he do the job. Oleg Anaya is once more European
:47:02. > :47:03.parallel bars champion. Lukas Dauser takes the silver medal. -- Oleg
:47:04. > :47:11.Verniaiev. STUDIO: As we have seen from
:47:12. > :47:15.previous finals, never easy being the last gymnast and watching
:47:16. > :47:19.everybody, but Verniaiev knew that he was Olympic champion and what he
:47:20. > :47:23.had to do. Half a mark better than he has done at these championships
:47:24. > :47:31.on that apparatus. What a performance. Exactly. That is where
:47:32. > :47:35.his experience comes in, he has been European and Olympic champion, he
:47:36. > :47:39.knew what he needed to do and step up to the mark. All of the gymnasts
:47:40. > :47:43.had already been and they put in some really good performances. So he
:47:44. > :47:51.had to up his game. And he delivers, as he usually does. European
:47:52. > :47:56.champion again. I love a P bar final, but that was one of the best.
:47:57. > :48:02.Lukas Dauser is really making a name for himself. Absolutely. His routine
:48:03. > :48:08.is so unique. Skills that not many other gymnasts do. He is tall, it
:48:09. > :48:15.has the aesthetic quality, something extra for the judges' attention. I
:48:16. > :48:20.would like to see him over the next few months, before the World
:48:21. > :48:23.Championships, really make a mark. Especially on the world stage. He
:48:24. > :48:28.has done it at European level, the whole stage is the next step. With
:48:29. > :48:32.the competitive spirit, he seems like a real character in the mix,
:48:33. > :48:39.which helps as far as firing up everybody else. Now the floor. In
:48:40. > :48:47.addition to the beam final, Claudia Fragapane has also qualified for the
:48:48. > :48:53.floor final. She has been off, around the dance floor, but now
:48:54. > :49:00.strictly down to business. It's so good to be back. It hasn't changed a
:49:01. > :49:05.bit. I feel so supported. There to say you have had quite a six months
:49:06. > :49:11.since Rio. I have had quite a while off, so to be here is really good.
:49:12. > :49:15.The whole Strictly thing has been amazing, great to be a part of. Nice
:49:16. > :49:20.to do something different and then go back to gymnastics. I have
:49:21. > :49:25.learned from Strictly. Before when I was doing gymnastics, I was very
:49:26. > :49:30.tense and stressed quite a lot. Now I have done all these competitions
:49:31. > :49:34.and every single international, gone to Strictly and am something
:49:35. > :49:38.different, I have come at a different person, more chilled and
:49:39. > :49:43.relaxed. Now before competitions, I say, I've done all the work I can,
:49:44. > :49:48.now I have to enjoy myself and not feel so tense. That's what I'm
:49:49. > :49:55.doing. In Romanian, you are through to the final on the floor. How happy
:49:56. > :49:59.were you with qualifying? It was an amazing feeling. I didn't do all my
:50:00. > :50:14.jumps and my bonuses, but hopefully in the final it will all click.
:50:15. > :50:26.Eythora Thorsdottir. The fifth highest qualifier. Capable certainly
:50:27. > :50:35.of mid-to high 13s. Quite a special routine.
:50:36. > :50:43.Needs to hit the tumbles. Triple twist, punch front, and a deduction
:50:44. > :51:07.as she stepped out. But enjoy the dancing.
:51:08. > :51:18.Very expressive, arms, hands, face. Lovely double tuck.
:51:19. > :51:39.Little bit of theatre in this performance.
:51:40. > :51:57.Lovely two and a half twist at the finish.
:51:58. > :52:05.Really dramatic. She sells the floor beautifully. Unfortunately, a
:52:06. > :52:10.deduction on the first tumble. And however beautiful you are on the
:52:11. > :52:18.dance, you cannot get away from the fact that she took a big step out.
:52:19. > :52:22.The first tumble. Quite high in the flip. The triple twist into the
:52:23. > :52:28.punch front, and that is where the step that was. And then the double
:52:29. > :52:33.tuck somersault. The tumbles don't have huge difficulty, but where she
:52:34. > :52:37.bills it up is with the spins. Four in a row, and all of them are
:52:38. > :52:41.difficult spins to link together. So as long as the judges credit all of
:52:42. > :52:48.them, the difficulty will be built up. And the final tumble, the two
:52:49. > :52:51.and a half, just a tiny move. Apart from the step out at the
:52:52. > :52:59.beginning... You can see the facial expressions really bringing it to
:53:00. > :53:03.life. Her coach uploading. I do think, it is a fairly newish routine
:53:04. > :53:07.for her, and given another six months, it would be fantastic. It
:53:08. > :53:12.takes quite a lot out of you to perform like that with the facial
:53:13. > :53:16.expressions and sell it. That's taking away a little bit from the
:53:17. > :53:21.performance of the gymnastic moves. But once it beds in, I think it will
:53:22. > :53:27.be really special. She has dropped down to 13.366, which would not be
:53:28. > :53:33.enough for a medal. We will have to wait and see. It's going to be
:53:34. > :53:37.close. For the Dutch, it's important for her to be seen and to gain the
:53:38. > :53:41.reputation, for people to look forward to seeing the performance.
:53:42. > :53:48.They will trade a medal right now for a one in the future. So her
:53:49. > :53:55.reputation is known. And she has the routine now, so she has a few
:53:56. > :54:00.months... 13.7, the judges loved it. In gold medal position at the
:54:01. > :54:06.moment. Thank you very much indeed, she says, I'll have that. And looks
:54:07. > :54:08.as surprised as us. But there is artistry involved, and she would
:54:09. > :54:16.have got the top scores for artistry. Angelina Melnikova, the
:54:17. > :54:23.young Russian gymnast, 16 years old. Also made the vault final. This
:54:24. > :54:27.gymnast has got a high difficulty score, big tumbles. Very classical
:54:28. > :54:36.and elegant. Two lovely spins. Sometimes struggles with the
:54:37. > :54:47.landings. Not this time. Lovely double Arabian.
:54:48. > :55:37.Beautiful combinations so far. Full twisting double pike. Super stuff.
:55:38. > :55:54.Double pike, makes the landing. So pleased to see that. She struggled
:55:55. > :56:00.in competition this season, and she is such a classical, complete
:56:01. > :56:07.gymnast. That was fab. Feels like a real celebration of floor
:56:08. > :56:12.gymnastics, this final. She came to the O2 and in Stuttgart, the leading
:56:13. > :56:19.gymnast for Russia in the world series, and every time she has
:56:20. > :56:25.fallen on floor. But not today. The spin with the leg up, pointed toes.
:56:26. > :56:29.And one of the big tumbles, and to do that in your third tumble, you
:56:30. > :56:38.have to have lots of stamina and power. And the final tumble, the
:56:39. > :56:44.double pike. A great routine. 13.7 is the Golden score at the moment.
:56:45. > :56:51.For me, that is the combination of both dancing and tumbling, spins and
:56:52. > :56:58.leaps, that we want to see. Not predominantly one or the other.
:56:59. > :57:06.Let's hope it's rewarded. Melnikova has gone into the lead! 14.1.
:57:07. > :57:15.It all came together at the right time. You could well be looking at
:57:16. > :57:21.the European floor Champion there, but, well, what a job Ellie Downie
:57:22. > :57:22.has. From Great Britain. She was the highest qualifier with a score of
:57:23. > :57:28.13.9. Ellie, a very different style, but
:57:29. > :57:33.huge tumbles. Double twisting double back. That's
:57:34. > :58:02.how you do it. This is hugely difficult tumble. One
:58:03. > :58:15.and a half walk out, and up into the double Arabian. Does it easily.
:58:16. > :58:46.Really maturing as a performer. Double pike, sky-high, easy.
:58:47. > :59:02.What a Championships for Ellie Downie, what a fantastic floor
:59:03. > :59:08.routine to finish. She has not put a foot wrong. That was a fantastic
:59:09. > :59:12.routine. Well, this one is going right down to the wire. It really
:59:13. > :59:20.is. Ellie Downie has just performed out of her skin here in Romanian. Do
:59:21. > :59:29.you know what, Ellie? Job done. Relax, it's over. You can see, it's
:59:30. > :59:34.almost like, oh... Four days, what a great competition. To finish in that
:59:35. > :59:38.way shows everyone how good a character she is. Very little to
:59:39. > :59:42.deter up. The one and a half walk out, straight into the double
:59:43. > :59:50.Arabian somersault. Did well to hold the landing. She has spoken about
:59:51. > :59:54.how she's had to really work on the artistry side, and really work on
:59:55. > :59:59.those facial expressions. It's great to see. And there's the double pike,
:00:00. > :00:03.nothing to deduct there. It's going to be very close with this score.
:00:04. > :00:15.Interesting to see who they bring out on top. 14.1, the score to beat.
:00:16. > :00:23.13.7, Silver. 13.566, bronze at the moment. Two to go, one of which is
:00:24. > :00:28.Claudia Fragapane. 14.066, Ellie is happy with that. Huge
:00:29. > :00:36.congratulations with the way that she has performed.
:00:37. > :00:43.So Claudia Fragapane now, the second-highest qualifier. Silver
:00:44. > :00:52.back in 2015. Commonwealth champion on the floor. And a new routine for
:00:53. > :00:53.the season. The big opening tumble, full twisting double straight,
:00:54. > :01:14.fantastic. Big challenge here on this second
:01:15. > :01:14.tumble. Has to be clean. Sky-high double Arabian and she just
:01:15. > :01:47.overcooked it. Great choreography and here on this
:01:48. > :02:01.bird tumble run, super double straight, into a jump.
:02:02. > :02:12.Really expressing the dance work well. Big double pike dismount,
:02:13. > :02:17.that's the way to land. That's going to be a fantastic routine, it is a
:02:18. > :02:23.fantastic routine but they step out and the big step from the double
:02:24. > :02:27.Arabian will be costly. Such a shame, it was a fantastic routine
:02:28. > :02:32.and I saw her coaches at the National Championships and they were
:02:33. > :02:35.seeing how they wanted to bring the strictly performance alive, they
:02:36. > :02:39.spent a lot of time choreographing it, how could they bring the
:02:40. > :02:45.elements she lured into it and it comes to live in cheaper forms it.
:02:46. > :02:52.The full twisting double straight, absolutely spot on. This is the
:02:53. > :02:56.second tumble, got the flying landing, just to springing. It's not
:02:57. > :03:03.that she is not without power, that is the point. Too much power. Then
:03:04. > :03:09.the double straight, straight in to the jump, three out of the four
:03:10. > :03:15.tumbles absolutely nailed on the landing. The double Arabian just
:03:16. > :03:22.need a bit more time to control the energy. A special talent to be back,
:03:23. > :03:27.competing at that level with a brand-new routine. Fantastic and you
:03:28. > :03:37.saw her with her coaches, they've done a great job with her. She spent
:03:38. > :03:41.all that time on Strictly Come Dancing and just two pieces to
:03:42. > :03:47.prepare for this championship, but very disappointed with herself. She
:03:48. > :03:50.is a gritty competitor. Her scorer will give her an indication of what
:03:51. > :03:54.she will be capable of in the future I am sure but you can see she is
:03:55. > :04:00.filled with disappointment from the landing on the trouble. But a lot to
:04:01. > :04:05.take away from that performance. -- from the landing on the tumble. By
:04:06. > :04:12.the end of the year she will be back on all four pieces and be a real
:04:13. > :04:18.force to be reckoned with. Some deliberation... Yeah, she worked in
:04:19. > :04:22.the first round, early morning of the women's qualification so she has
:04:23. > :04:26.had a tremendously long wait for this moment. It's always tough when
:04:27. > :04:30.you are working, this has been the big emphasis of the competition for
:04:31. > :04:40.her. It has, that was the final she wanted. 13.533, she finishes sixth.
:04:41. > :04:49.But that scorer with a step out, that is a big score. But there is
:04:50. > :05:02.your new European floor champion. Ellie Downie takes the silver.
:05:03. > :05:08.Definitely very happy, did not have gone a lot better for me, my main
:05:09. > :05:13.aim was to come and hit my routines and I have hit 12 out of 12 which is
:05:14. > :05:20.unbelievable really. To come out with four medals is crazy. I am so
:05:21. > :05:26.pleased. How is the body holding up? 12 routines is the maximum anyone
:05:27. > :05:31.can do. I am pretty knackered to be honest. Going into the day it was
:05:32. > :05:34.the most tired I have felt, but with the crowd and the adrenaline and
:05:35. > :05:41.knowing what I had done in the past couple of days, it pays to be on and
:05:42. > :05:45.my coach said I had nothing to lose. We have been watching the last
:05:46. > :05:51.couple of years, so you get the bronze all around in France a couple
:05:52. > :05:55.of years ago, we saw you come forth in Rio, agonisingly close. What has
:05:56. > :06:02.been the difference, what have you done to push on? I have really
:06:03. > :06:06.knuckled down after Rio, it was disappointing for me. I took a break
:06:07. > :06:12.and came back and was ready to go again. I worked so hard, pushed my
:06:13. > :06:17.fitness and rehab. Although it has paid off here. Could not be happier.
:06:18. > :06:22.What is next for you, what you do between now and the World
:06:23. > :06:26.Championships? First of all I take a rest and then I will get back into
:06:27. > :06:30.the gym, maybe learn some new combination skills which were not
:06:31. > :06:35.ready for this Championships. But my aim is to get back in there and work
:06:36. > :06:40.as hard as I have been. We know your sister could not compete because of
:06:41. > :06:45.her injury yesterday, how is she? She's just got a bit of a sore elbow
:06:46. > :06:49.at the moment, we don't know the diagnosis. She was pretty upset but
:06:50. > :06:53.I cheered her up and have been encouraging her. She is strong and
:06:54. > :06:58.fighters so I know she will come back stronger. I am sure another
:06:59. > :06:59.medal for you will cheer her up further, well done, thank you. Thank
:07:00. > :07:08.you. What a way to wrap up the European
:07:09. > :07:15.Championships, a fourth medal, gold, two silver and a bronze. Ellie
:07:16. > :07:20.Downie becomes the most successful European gymnast we have ever had as
:07:21. > :07:26.an individual. And she did it in style. She has been fighting all the
:07:27. > :07:33.way through this Championships, a superb floral routine had been laid
:07:34. > :07:37.down but Ellie did not disappoint. We keep talking about it, but it was
:07:38. > :07:42.her fourth day of competition and doing 12 out of 12 was great. Using
:07:43. > :07:46.the double bubble and coming straight back down on the diagonal,
:07:47. > :07:51.into the double Arabian which most people would struggle as the first
:07:52. > :07:55.tumble. All credit to her. She has surely worked on the artistry, you
:07:56. > :07:59.can see the facial expressions coming in, at the beginning of the
:08:00. > :08:02.season and she was saying how much she was looking forward to
:08:03. > :08:09.performing the routine and you can hear the crowd getting involved and
:08:10. > :08:17.no deduction on the last tumble. Great way to round off her European
:08:18. > :08:22.Championships. Really laying on the pressure with this stylish beautiful
:08:23. > :08:28.gymnastics. The three medallists were very different. She is very
:08:29. > :08:35.artistic, powerful tumble, leaping, flexibility. Then you have Ellie
:08:36. > :08:39.Downie who is very powerful. She is wearing socks so if you wonder why
:08:40. > :08:47.that is it's to be able to do all the spinning and get the connection,
:08:48. > :08:53.get the difficulty. They come at a price as far as tumbling goes? Yes,
:08:54. > :08:56.you saw on the first tumble her feet were slightly in front of her and
:08:57. > :09:01.she could have slept but she is used to training on it. You said you
:09:02. > :09:08.could not believe she did it in socks. Yes, for me, especially at
:09:09. > :09:14.the major championships, new floor, new carpet, it has that layer where
:09:15. > :09:21.it can feel a bit sloppy and it takes time to get a warning about.
:09:22. > :09:28.It's unique in that sense. Some of the Chinese gymnasts have done it so
:09:29. > :09:33.it might catch on. Quickly, full of drama, that performance. The
:09:34. > :09:40.different styles, lovely to watch. And Claudio Bravo panic back with a
:09:41. > :09:45.new routine -- cloudier Fraga Panny back with a new routine, plenty in
:09:46. > :09:51.between the tumbles. -- Claudia Fragapane back with a new routine,
:09:52. > :09:56.plenty in between the tumbles. She was just too powerful. That comes
:09:57. > :10:00.with numbers, being able to control the energy. Great to see her back
:10:01. > :10:04.out there competing, she has had time out so to be at these
:10:05. > :10:09.championships and performing at this level is great. I think she was a
:10:10. > :10:13.bit disappointed with it but she has to take the positives. I hope she
:10:14. > :10:17.doesn't put herself under too much pressure from what she was expecting
:10:18. > :10:22.out there to be honest. What she has to look at is what she scored and
:10:23. > :10:27.what they will have deducted. Not all the step out but also the steps
:10:28. > :10:36.to make her step out so the scorer can drastically increase. With a few
:10:37. > :10:40.more numbers in the gym. Role in Canada. As always the men's high bar
:10:41. > :10:45.closes the championship and with high hopes of claiming another medal
:10:46. > :10:46.from a closely matched final aid is the all-around bronze medallist
:10:47. > :10:57.James Hall. The high bar final, what can we look
:10:58. > :11:01.out for? It will be similar to the last routine, not to much more I can
:11:02. > :11:07.put in without jeopardising the safety of the routine as it where. I
:11:08. > :11:12.will just try and clean it up, catch all the releases and stick the
:11:13. > :11:17.dismount. You could walk away from here with two medals. It's a
:11:18. > :11:21.possibility, try not to think about it too much, just going to go out
:11:22. > :11:26.and do my job but it's an exciting prospect to think what could be. The
:11:27. > :11:33.other guys have done it so it is possible.
:11:34. > :11:41.He's got a difficulty of 5.8, keep your eye on the difficulty score as
:11:42. > :11:47.we go through the final. We'll find it interesting to see execution
:11:48. > :11:52.versus difficulty. Into the intricate full turnaround the one
:11:53. > :11:56.arm. That's the squat, into the handstand with one turn, good
:11:57. > :12:14.position, winding up for a big release. Good catch, straight arm. A
:12:15. > :12:19.bit close there on the normal Kovac. Half turn, into the full long swing,
:12:20. > :12:28.squatting again, but late on the full turn. Winding up for the
:12:29. > :12:36.dismount. Full twist, double back, great start. What a storming routine
:12:37. > :12:39.and if you have never seen a high bar final before I am sure you are
:12:40. > :12:45.gathering people around the TV because that was a fine example of
:12:46. > :12:49.how you do it. It certainly was, that is what you want to see at the
:12:50. > :12:56.start of the final, some big releases. Almost looked like he had
:12:57. > :13:05.to catch with his right arm. And the rest of the routine very clean on
:13:06. > :13:09.the releases. The dismount, stuck the landing. Chester bit low but
:13:10. > :13:12.other than that leaving an impression on the judges. -- Chester
:13:13. > :13:29.bit low. Stand by your bed is everybody.
:13:30. > :13:42.James Hall mode. Third highest qualifier. Scored a 14.2 in
:13:43. > :13:49.qualification. It's a big routine. Strong start. Winding up, this is a
:13:50. > :13:58.big test. Great catch, full stretch, full twist. Nice again. In the
:13:59. > :14:05.double park, one more to come. Great full turn in the tuck position. No
:14:06. > :14:16.must lock the handstands, squat full, little but late is costly.
:14:17. > :14:23.Better on a half turn. That's a requirement, hot full, just the
:14:24. > :14:32.dismount to go. Punts, it's good! Double twisted, double straight,
:14:33. > :14:37.James Hall plans the landing. Well done James Hall. He has taken like a
:14:38. > :14:44.duck to water in this competition. The way he stepped up, the release,
:14:45. > :14:48.knees together, he did one more release in qualification and other
:14:49. > :14:51.than the fact he will be pretty tired from the all-around final
:14:52. > :14:55.couple of days ago, that's the reason perhaps he did not compete
:14:56. > :14:57.here today but finishing off with the double twisting straight, nailed
:14:58. > :15:13.the landing. Joint first! I'll have that every day of the
:15:14. > :15:18.week, James Hall. Currently in the lead. Now it's the turn of the
:15:19. > :15:25.highest qualifier, Oliver Hegi. Quiet start. Good extension there.
:15:26. > :15:39.The half turn. The handstand and a bit of a leg
:15:40. > :15:50.split. That was the one-and-a-half twist. However he caught very close
:15:51. > :16:01.to the bar, and that will be three tenths.
:16:02. > :16:11.Markelov. Has to keep the arms locked out.
:16:12. > :16:26.Just a full twist, step on landing. Qualified first, but there were a
:16:27. > :16:34.few little errors in that routine. I like the flow, the way his routine's
:16:35. > :16:38.constructed. Fairly unique. He lets go and does the one-off twist, and
:16:39. > :16:41.catches again. It was eight had close. Probably the only gymnast to
:16:42. > :16:53.perform that skill. -- a tad close. You have to use a bit of strength
:16:54. > :16:58.rather than the momentum to get back up into the handstand. But generally
:16:59. > :17:01.it was a clean routine. So I think he's definitely going to be pushing
:17:02. > :17:06.for top spot. Very close at the top already. Yes. He's in the lead with
:17:07. > :17:25.14.5. In high bars in past European
:17:26. > :17:33.Championships, unlucky, always missing out on a medal. Stand-by for
:17:34. > :17:37.the hardest so far, this is 6.4. He is going all out for difficulty and
:17:38. > :17:48.hoping that the judges won't mind a bit of execution. It's a big
:17:49. > :17:50.routine. That was huge. Full twist into the Kovacs. And another one in
:17:51. > :17:57.the tuck position. Straight Tkachev, and a straddle
:17:58. > :18:06.Tkachev into the half turn. And again, the straight with the
:18:07. > :18:14.half turn. On the full. The one-and-a-half into the mixed
:18:15. > :18:33.grip. Into the double twisting double
:18:34. > :18:38.straight. Come on! Wow. That was a recipe that paid off, difficulty and
:18:39. > :18:42.execution. Without a doubt. He went for broke and I think he should sit
:18:43. > :18:50.fairly comfortably in first position. It had the releases, the
:18:51. > :18:53.terms and the bar work. To top it off, the dismount, the double
:18:54. > :18:58.twisting double straight, and he nailed the landing. Slightly bent
:18:59. > :19:04.legs the judges will have spotted, without a doubt. But he spots the
:19:05. > :19:08.floor and sticks the dismount. They are all shouting, Pavlovich! They
:19:09. > :19:20.want to see him in top spot. --! It's the top spot. 14.933 for Pablo
:19:21. > :19:42.Braegger. David Belyavskiy, fresh from
:19:43. > :19:49.parallel bars. Got a bronze in this final last year. Has qualified with
:19:50. > :19:53.the second-highest score. This is a slightly easier routine, but he is a
:19:54. > :19:58.master of execution. Just watch his form.
:19:59. > :20:04.And originality within his work. Nice full twist on the one arm.
:20:05. > :20:17.Squat half turn. High and flighty. The straight
:20:18. > :20:21.Tkachev. The half turn, executed perfectly.
:20:22. > :20:40.Into the bar... Known as the Siderman swing. A real favourite of
:20:41. > :20:47.the crowd. Full twist, the adjustment on landing. Belyavskiy
:20:48. > :20:52.challenges for a medal. You can see how tight his legs are to get
:20:53. > :20:57.through all the release elements and all the swings, which most gymnasts
:20:58. > :21:06.haven't been able to do. That was the Markelov. Slightly bent arms,
:21:07. > :21:16.but recovers pretty well. He is in third, 14.36, knocking James Hall
:21:17. > :21:25.out of the medals. Next, Oleh Verniaiev. What can he do?
:21:26. > :21:29.Not renowned for his high bar work, but nevertheless qualified into this
:21:30. > :21:32.final. Nice with the straight Markelov half
:21:33. > :21:41.turn. Nice with the half turn again. The
:21:42. > :22:05.execution of these elements. Straddle... Oh, I was going to say
:22:06. > :22:08.straddle Tkachev with the half turn, but let go a little bit too late.
:22:09. > :22:19.Smiling to himself. 30 seconds. So he'd better be quick.
:22:20. > :22:26.I thought he had hurt his hand a bit when he came down.
:22:27. > :22:31.Certainly knows how to battle through his routines either way, so
:22:32. > :22:33.I'm sure it won't put him off for the rest the routine. It certainly
:22:34. > :22:50.won't. Squat full, another Markelov. Better
:22:51. > :23:00.that time. Good extension on the catch. A nice little hop full. Half
:23:01. > :23:07.turn. Into the Healy turn. Endo again.
:23:08. > :23:16.Winds up for the dismount... He looked at the bar as if to say he
:23:17. > :23:19.wasn't happy with the grip. If you feel like you're going to slip off,
:23:20. > :23:23.I suppose bailing out at the last minute is the best option. He's
:23:24. > :23:31.going to repeat the dismount by the of it. Jump on, jump off. The mark
:23:32. > :23:34.of a champion, because most other people would have just presented and
:23:35. > :23:39.left the podium. Better, double twist, double straight, a hop
:23:40. > :23:43.forward. Well, he might not have performed to his best on the high
:23:44. > :23:49.bar, but certainly excelled in these championships. Ah... Something is
:23:50. > :23:56.not right with him. Looks a bit shaken. That was the straddle
:23:57. > :24:01.Tkachev where he tried the half turn. Slightly too far away. And
:24:02. > :24:06.then the double twisting double straight. A large jump forward on
:24:07. > :24:10.the landing. He looks pretty exhausted after quite a few days
:24:11. > :24:15.consecutively of competing. That's the result of competition
:24:16. > :24:17.back-to-back to back. Being able to do all those finals, he just needs a
:24:18. > :24:23.good long rest. Pablo Bragger takes the gold ahead
:24:24. > :24:30.of his compatriot Oliver Hegi. David Belyavskiy takes the bronze
:24:31. > :24:43.medal. You see high bar finals all over the
:24:44. > :24:47.place, and that had some huge names and huge start values. To come
:24:48. > :24:52.fourth I'm pretty pleased. Probably as never as I could get to perfect.
:24:53. > :24:56.Can't ask for much more. To get on the world stage to begin with, it is
:24:57. > :25:02.huge in itself. A massive confidence boost. You've always dreamt of
:25:03. > :25:05.coming out here and doing well, not coming away with a medal, but
:25:06. > :25:10.showing your country and the rest of Europe and the world what you are
:25:11. > :25:15.made of. In my books, I think I have done that. All you want is a safe
:25:16. > :25:20.and happy high bar final, and that is exactly what we got. The thrills
:25:21. > :25:26.and spills. It was a good final, Chris. It was. The is the showcase,
:25:27. > :25:32.the high bar, always the last apparatus, so you want a great
:25:33. > :25:38.final. The two Swiss lads put in the performance. The big releases,
:25:39. > :25:44.Braegger had some in bar work, the handstand and he stuck the dismount
:25:45. > :25:48.at the end. He really did live up to the expectations, and the Swiss will
:25:49. > :25:51.definitely be happy. Very hard to see where you will improve on
:25:52. > :25:54.something like Braegger's routine, because he went all out for
:25:55. > :26:00.difficulty and yet the execution was so fine. The gymnasts get to see an
:26:01. > :26:04.opportunity, OK, that's what I need to be aiming for. You can see the
:26:05. > :26:08.skills, and until the World Championships it's an opportunity
:26:09. > :26:12.for the young guys to say, OK, that connection works well and the judges
:26:13. > :26:15.are not taking many deductions, maybe that is worth sticking into
:26:16. > :26:20.the routine and having a play with, changing the formation of the
:26:21. > :26:22.routine. That is what is good about the European Championship, an
:26:23. > :26:28.opportunity to have a little jiggle until the World Championships of how
:26:29. > :26:30.the routine will look for the future. Beth, David Belyavskiy saw
:26:31. > :26:37.the other gymnasts go first and he opted for a slightly easier routine,
:26:38. > :26:40.performed beautifully. That is an example of how the different styles
:26:41. > :26:45.can compete even in something as dramatic as the high bar. They are
:26:46. > :26:49.such a classical gymnast to watch, his lines and execution always very
:26:50. > :26:53.good. Even though he had a slightly easier routine, the judges are
:26:54. > :26:59.looking at execution, and that allowed him to place third. Just
:27:00. > :27:03.finding that blend. It always happens at the start of the Olympics
:27:04. > :27:06.cycle. With this being the first major competition in that, what has
:27:07. > :27:11.it told you about the gymnastics on offer going forward? It showed us
:27:12. > :27:17.that Great Britain have some very good potential. Great depth within
:27:18. > :27:23.the squad. It has also shown that perhaps the judges are taking a lot
:27:24. > :27:28.more deductions than they used to, with the old code. Definitely a lot
:27:29. > :27:36.more strict with some of the skills. Beth? Similar. It will take time to
:27:37. > :27:40.settle. The gymnasts will see which routines have been credited in this
:27:41. > :27:43.Championships, where the big deductions came from. So they now
:27:44. > :27:47.have five months to go into the World Championships and think,
:27:48. > :27:52.right, this is what I have to work on two ensure I get the execution
:27:53. > :27:58.score ready. Standout performance? It has to be Dragulescu, home crowd,
:27:59. > :28:09.European champion on the floor, twice European champion on vault.
:28:10. > :28:12.Doesn't get better. Obviously Ellie, all-around title, making history for
:28:13. > :28:18.Britain. But it was also great to see Ponor back on top of the podium.
:28:19. > :28:21.Plenty more sport to come on BBC Two. The Wilson at the championships
:28:22. > :28:28.from the Crucible in Sheffield today. -- the snooker World
:28:29. > :28:32.Championships. This Europeans has been a case of opportunity knocks.
:28:33. > :28:36.The question is who will be working through the door of the arena at the

:28:39. > :28:55.all of us here, goodbye. So long as you make
