:00:27. > :00:37.Here comes Kelley Holmes... crowd are on their feet.

:00:37. > :01:03.

:01:03. > :01:09.Rebecca Adlington is bringing it Hello and welcome to the World

:01:09. > :01:15.Gymnastics Championships, here in Tokyo. Taxi! Over the past five

:01:15. > :01:25.days we have started to realise that life here is a bit trickier.

:01:25. > :01:30.

:01:30. > :01:40.Metropolitan gymnastics centre? I want to try to get to... Excuse me?

:01:40. > :01:46.

:01:46. > :01:56.The circle? How does this work? Oh Right, well I am looking for the

:01:56. > :02:02.

:02:02. > :02:12.exit and I have now arrived on Oh, is that me? Try this one. I

:02:12. > :02:17.

:02:17. > :02:21.know what I fancy but this is going Great. Clear as mud.

:02:21. > :02:25.Olympic bronze medallist Louis Smith has the hardest pommel horse

:02:25. > :02:29.routine in the world. He already has a bronze and a silver in the

:02:29. > :02:34.world medal but the only way he can go for a gold medal is to make his

:02:34. > :02:44.life even difficult with a harder routine. You don't have a spoon, do

:02:44. > :02:49.

:02:49. > :02:59.Great Britain's Louis Smith. It is is so under control. Lovely

:02:59. > :03:01.

:03:01. > :03:06.confidence. Keep the rhythm, Louis! This is fabulous. That is superb!

:03:06. > :03:09.Well, his chances for a medal will be coming up very shortly but first,

:03:09. > :03:13.the qualification heat was not just about individuals making the finals

:03:13. > :03:22.but also the first opportunity for both the men and women's team to

:03:22. > :03:26.make the top eight and qualify for London 2012. It was a case of

:03:26. > :03:30.ladies first four Hannah Whelan, Danusia Francis, Imogen Cairns,

:03:30. > :03:39.Rebecca Downie and Beth Tweddle, all of forming -- performing in the

:03:39. > :03:41.same arena as the gymnasts of the 1964 Olympics. There were no big

:03:41. > :03:46.mistakes but the strain of qualifying for their home Games was

:03:46. > :03:56.obvious. It was a nervous wait as they watched the scoreboard, had

:03:56. > :03:56.

:03:56. > :04:03.been for at least a number eight next to Great Britain. Until we had

:04:03. > :04:08.it on the scoreboard, none of us wanted to take it for granted.

:04:08. > :04:14.not think any of us have felt that in our lives. It was horrible!

:04:14. > :04:21.all-around final for Hannah, BET and a place for six in the hope to

:04:21. > :04:25.next summer. -- in the O2 Arena next summer. Such as the women

:04:25. > :04:30.relaxed, it was the much fancied men's turn to flex their muscles on

:04:30. > :04:34.the podium. A great stop by the team was unravelled by a shocking

:04:34. > :04:38.Hyde Park rotation. It was a tense and edgy struggle for the men from

:04:38. > :04:45.there on. An imperious, nerveless Paul Moore routine from Louis Smith

:04:45. > :04:49.saw him enter today's individual final to keep the men's hopes alive.

:04:49. > :04:53.He was tenth overall. There has been no panic from the British team.

:04:53. > :04:56.They have a second chance to qualify through the test event in

:04:56. > :05:00.January and it was a very mature Dan Purvis and Louis Smith who

:05:00. > :05:05.taught me through what happens next. I think everyone is looking forward

:05:05. > :05:10.to a bit off a rest and putting on some weight, Christmas pudding and

:05:10. > :05:14.that! It could be a blessing in disguise. We should qualify. I do

:05:14. > :05:19.not want to say we are because anything can happen. We have the

:05:19. > :05:24.strongest team we ever have, the boys are good. So it is all about

:05:24. > :05:28.going to that event in January, sacrificing our Christmas puddings

:05:28. > :05:33.and proving to everyone that we can do it and we do want to qualify for

:05:33. > :05:38.the Olympics. Huge congratulations to our British girls but one

:05:39. > :05:42.thing's the lads did not expect was to lead a second shot at

:05:42. > :05:52.qualification. But that has been the flavour of this year's World

:05:52. > :05:59.

:05:59. > :06:05.Championships. We have come to Their confidence... Were at a

:06:05. > :06:15.cracking vault. The way up in the rafters. Great Britain... She is

:06:15. > :06:15.

:06:15. > :06:21.the best we have ever seen. The USA are the women's team champions.

:06:21. > :06:27.absolute thriller, this. Oh, yes, he says! He enjoyed it as much as

:06:27. > :06:33.made. The finest all-around gymnast they we have ever seen. He is

:06:33. > :06:43.unbelievable! The world team champions, China. Whatever final

:06:43. > :06:54.

:06:54. > :07:04.the double pike. She will be out. She has fought back well. She has

:07:04. > :07:12.

:07:12. > :07:22.great performance from Dan. Just like that, welcomed! An absolute

:07:22. > :07:26.

:07:26. > :07:30.Dan and cannot are here. It seems first of all that Dan is the man in

:07:30. > :07:37.Japan. I had to fight my way through Japanese girls to get to

:07:37. > :07:40.you. I know! A shame it doesn't happen in England! Yes, I think I

:07:40. > :07:44.might stay here another week. Fourth plays, such a difficult

:07:44. > :07:50.position to come in, so last night, we celebrating or slightly

:07:50. > :07:56.commiserating? Celebrating for the team mates and back. We got a big

:07:56. > :08:01.McDonald's. Hang on! That is how you celebrate question are you have

:08:01. > :08:07.a McDonald's?! Did you go large question but yes, I did. We reflect

:08:07. > :08:09.on it. I am really happy and it is a positive outcome for next year.

:08:09. > :08:15.And you are feeding good this morning? You must feel on top of

:08:15. > :08:20.the world. I feel good but a bit sore. My back is killing me. Hannah,

:08:20. > :08:25.you had a fantastic performance and were overall ninth.S said you were

:08:25. > :08:29.sort of aiming for top 12 for so did you so pass your expectations?

:08:29. > :08:33.Yes, I just went out there to try to enjoy my competition and do as

:08:34. > :08:43.well as a good. Was it easy for you to retain your commotion? Your

:08:43. > :08:48.mother was a wreck! Yes! Fifth in the team final, as well, was

:08:48. > :08:53.absolutely... Can you replicate that at the Olympics? We have

:08:53. > :08:56.worked so hard and we deserved to come FIG on Tuesday so we are going

:08:57. > :09:00.to go back, were just as hard and hopefully we will do for just as

:09:00. > :09:05.well or even better in the Olympics. A super performance so far from the

:09:05. > :09:09.top of the Great Britain team. We have the men's floor, the women's

:09:09. > :09:14.vaults, Louis will be up on the pommel horse. There is know best --

:09:14. > :09:24.Beth Tweddle on bars and the men will be on the rings but we will

:09:24. > :09:31.

:09:31. > :09:37.more or add to his medals by taking the men's Tour title? Or world

:09:37. > :09:43.qualifier Sue Key I win a second gold for China? What a final this

:09:43. > :09:53.is going to be. Two world champions, European champion and Olympic gold

:09:53. > :09:56.

:09:56. > :10:06.medallists, world silver medallist podium at the World Championships.

:10:06. > :10:24.

:10:24. > :10:34.combination at the end. Very well has absolute confidence and

:10:34. > :10:49.

:10:49. > :10:59.half twists, and one and three rotations. Very complex. Same again,

:10:59. > :11:07.

:11:07. > :11:12.other. He's punching the air, but did he cut down on that start? That

:11:12. > :11:16.twisting start? Is he playing safe? I think it is the same routine as

:11:16. > :11:22.we saw before. There was just, unfortunately, it was that second

:11:22. > :11:27.tumble where he had really quite a big step. It is a good opening.

:11:27. > :11:36.Here we are, the whip into the half turned in double Arabian Nights

:11:36. > :11:45.pike. -- Arabian Nights pike. The second tumble was where he had a

:11:45. > :11:54.really big step on landing. This is the triple right at the end to,

:11:54. > :12:00.good and clean. But he has opened the door enough, I think. He has

:12:00. > :12:09.been around for a while. He is now 25. And he is still competing with

:12:09. > :12:14.the best in the world. Yes, he had a 6.8 to qualify, and it is very

:12:14. > :12:23.hard to build that sort of difficulty up. I wonder what

:12:23. > :12:30.happens in this final. He has 15.466. This is going to be good.

:12:30. > :12:34.Stephen Legendre of, he can challenge the Brazilian. He did

:12:34. > :12:44.score a 0.1 above this court that the Brazilian has already marked up

:12:44. > :13:00.

:13:01. > :13:10.three-quarter role. There is a no- nonsense quality about this. He

:13:11. > :13:43.

:13:43. > :13:49.rotation straight body. That was a lovely Filali from him. Very

:13:49. > :13:52.exciting. The routine was packed with stuff and he had a bit of time

:13:52. > :14:01.before the end when we heard the buzzer, which means you have 30

:14:01. > :14:06.seconds to go, so he took his time. Absolutely full of difficulty. Look

:14:06. > :14:16.at the twists. He really is very confident landing forwards. You see

:14:16. > :14:16.

:14:16. > :14:20.him spot the flaw over his shoulder. He lost sight of his either. Here

:14:20. > :14:25.recently the one and a half twists in a double straight somersault.

:14:25. > :14:34.Really big difficulty. And here the finish. The half-turn in double

:14:34. > :14:40.front pike, a tiny hop back. cannot beat the Brazilian. It is

:14:40. > :14:48.15.4. He's a 0.66 behind the Brazilian. The current European

:14:48. > :14:53.gold medallist is gone the floor. Flavius Koczi. He qualified with

:14:53. > :14:59.the eighth highest score. He is a gymnast with quite a different type

:14:59. > :15:09.of repertoire. He twists so well. He has already done two-and-a-half

:15:09. > :15:17.

:15:17. > :15:25.where you are. He does snatch a little bit off the floor. Sometimes

:15:25. > :15:31.the judges will deduct for lack of height. Very nice balance. He lifts

:15:31. > :15:38.through and has to go clear of the floor. Holding the hands stand to

:15:38. > :15:48.requirement. You have to hold the handstand. I think this is a big

:15:48. > :16:09.

:16:09. > :16:18.the landing. The only deduction is lack of height on some of the

:16:18. > :16:24.tumbles. He is not feeling too tired. He had a difficult

:16:24. > :16:34.qualification time. Touches of brilliance. He was better last

:16:34. > :16:47.

:16:47. > :16:57.night. A top 12 finish. The Christine said he snatched one of

:16:57. > :17:02.

:17:02. > :17:10.his twists. Look at this. He knows the landing but goodness me, what a

:17:10. > :17:16.combination! The shoulder back on very early. May be lacking a bit of

:17:16. > :17:22.top of the gym. A small deduction for height. Incredible spacial

:17:22. > :17:29.awareness to be able to do another punch run with a twist. Absolutely.

:17:29. > :17:39.You have to set and spin and feel way you are. That was a great

:17:39. > :17:55.

:17:55. > :18:05.performance. There were no landing at the last World Championships on

:18:05. > :18:05.

:18:05. > :18:49.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

:18:49. > :18:59.hold this blitz long enough. He does all that work and finding

:18:59. > :19:17.

:19:17. > :19:25.he showed in the all round. It will be very tight. The crowd love this

:19:25. > :19:34.guy! He put on an amazing performance yesterday. He is

:19:34. > :19:37.obviously tired. He did not want to hang around. Well, it was a great

:19:37. > :19:46.performance but last night he did not take a single step on any

:19:46. > :19:52.landing. Consequently, that is the standard we are a judge in him by.

:19:52. > :19:59.There was a huge mistake in comparison to last night. That

:19:59. > :20:04.really was the only big step... He has such lovely form in the air. He

:20:04. > :20:12.holds his body so straight and well. Absolutely no doubt he was round on

:20:12. > :20:20.a triple twist. Like you both said, a little bit tired today. A little

:20:20. > :20:30.hangover from the excitement of last night. This got to beat his

:20:30. > :20:32.

:20:32. > :20:37.15.466. -- the score. He is in second. Behind the Brazilian.

:20:38. > :20:47.will do, he said. He will be pleased with that. They could be a

:20:48. > :20:48.

:20:48. > :21:38.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

:21:38. > :21:48.challenge. The Japanese coach had a this floor, it is on a paging, it

:21:48. > :22:05.

:22:05. > :22:11.is very bouncy. They fear between huge dismount. But again, not

:22:11. > :22:21.without deduction. Things seemed edgy out there. Even on the role.

:22:21. > :22:27.

:22:27. > :22:37.quality. He is normally a superb worker. Lovely twisting technique.

:22:37. > :22:39.

:22:39. > :22:47.It was deep. Double twist into full twist. That was a very deep landing.

:22:47. > :22:55.Some judges would give five for that. It was deep. In terms of

:22:55. > :23:05.qualification, he was 0.1 up on the Brazilian. He left his head back.

:23:05. > :23:16.

:23:16. > :23:20.that go on for? I do know. What can they be querying? Perhaps he put a

:23:20. > :23:27.little bit more in hoping for a higher start Valley this time. It

:23:27. > :23:37.will go to the jury. The Residuary judging every routine as it goes.

:23:37. > :23:37.

:23:37. > :23:44.There are reference judges as well, off sorts involved. In perspective,

:23:44. > :23:54.0.033 behind the Brazilian. If he is successful with this,... The

:23:54. > :24:04.inquiry has been accepted. He has now gone into the lead! His

:24:04. > :24:25.

:24:25. > :24:32.Well... scratching his head and shaking it

:24:32. > :24:39.thinking what is going on? As the arena settles, Alexander takes to

:24:39. > :24:49.the floor. The European silver medallist, can he Cnoc Diego out of

:24:49. > :25:28.

:25:28. > :25:38.the medals? It is all about the needed all the way through. He has

:25:38. > :25:57.

:25:57. > :26:03.errors early on in landings but he loves it. Well, has he done enough,

:26:03. > :26:09.that is the question? He had the same difficulty in qualification as

:26:09. > :26:14.was earlier awarded. He got better as it went along. He started off a

:26:14. > :26:21.little bit edgy. If you compare landing for landing, he was about

:26:21. > :26:29.equal on the landings. He was. This is quite deep. His chest is right

:26:29. > :26:34.down to the floor. That could be a costly start. That one better. The

:26:35. > :26:44.shoulders were up more. Well, he needs over 15.466 to get into the

:26:45. > :26:45.

:26:45. > :27:28.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

:27:28. > :27:32.In the absence of top two from last year, this could really be anyone's.

:27:32. > :27:35.There is one woman in here he was winning medals at world

:27:35. > :27:45.championship level before any of the other competitors were even

:27:45. > :27:45.

:27:45. > :28:38.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 44 seconds

:28:38. > :28:44.sport. The favourite here is only a quarter of a market ahead of the

:28:44. > :28:54.rest of the field. That might not sound a lot but it is under a mark

:28:54. > :29:03.

:29:03. > :29:13.separating this top eight. It will apparatus. -- Proms. A powerful and

:29:13. > :29:18.

:29:18. > :29:24.strong attack through the vaults. Yes, we saw her compete in Beijing,

:29:24. > :29:29.a finalist on the vault. She brings all that experience to bear. A

:29:29. > :29:34.lovely left. She makes the double twist look easy. You can see how

:29:34. > :29:38.upright she was on landing. The judges will not have a big

:29:38. > :29:48.deduction for the chest down. Good straight legs on the flight on,

:29:48. > :30:01.

:30:01. > :30:11.legs locked together. Really a was out of 15.8. Less than one mark

:30:11. > :30:27.

:30:27. > :30:36.of deductions which is pretty good she staggered at the end but she

:30:36. > :30:40.was just online. She has heard herself. It was not actually on the

:30:40. > :30:46.landing. It was one of those strange things when she stepped

:30:46. > :30:51.backwards. Near the half-turn, she lands nice and then she stepped

:30:51. > :30:55.back. She really turned it there, didn't she? That is one of those

:30:55. > :31:00.very bizarre things. She concentrated to land properly and

:31:00. > :31:10.then as she stepped back, it just really turned. Ligaments. The very,

:31:10. > :31:26.

:31:26. > :31:36.very painful. 14.566. She goes Vietnam. It is her birthday

:31:36. > :31:53.

:31:54. > :31:59.somersault with the one and a half shape. She kicks it out very

:31:59. > :32:06.strongly. She left the shape in for a slightly too long. Really, it is

:32:06. > :32:16.a difficult bowled. Her shoulders were left down at the end. She was

:32:16. > :32:37.

:32:37. > :32:44.a little bit deep on landing but score of this next bowled. --

:32:44. > :32:54.vaults. She wants an overall score of over 14.566 to go ahead of the

:32:54. > :33:05.

:33:05. > :33:15.performed bowled. She is slight and I did not expect such a good one as

:33:15. > :33:17.

:33:17. > :33:21.couldn't control the landing. Still a little angle in the shoulders.

:33:21. > :33:29.She could have snapped a bit more but very good to convert it in the

:33:29. > :33:34.air. Crossed ankles but a double twist -- on the double twist, but

:33:34. > :33:44.it was not all the way round. the tiniest hint of feet not being

:33:44. > :33:54.all the way round. 14.733, an overall score which put her ahead

:33:54. > :33:56.

:33:56. > :34:04.Republic here hits with this first bowled she could cause a massive

:34:04. > :34:09.upset. It is the slightly easier one first. One and a half twists. A

:34:09. > :34:15.bit of direction of problems there but it was high and flighty. Almost

:34:15. > :34:25.too much power, but in the wrong dimension. My guess is she twisted,

:34:25. > :34:26.

:34:26. > :34:35.over twisted, on the top of the hauls. -- course. She set it up

:34:35. > :34:39.very nicely but very difficult to time the one and a half twists. Her

:34:39. > :34:44.head stayed down so she could see where she was, then she pulled it

:34:44. > :34:54.forwards. Lost a little bit of control there. Focusing in on what

:34:54. > :35:18.

:35:18. > :35:28.will be the most difficult one that of her legs where she will grab the

:35:28. > :35:45.

:35:45. > :35:55.likely to be a zero. You have to get your feet down first. It is a

:35:55. > :36:03.very big gamble. If it scores -- if it goes well, you will score big!

:36:03. > :36:09.Respect from every competitor. pulled the seat in too soon and

:36:09. > :36:15.kicked it out. That angle has to be gone in the shoulders. She has not

:36:15. > :36:21.got as much pride as the men and she runs out of it here. But what a

:36:21. > :36:31.great attitude. She smiled, she says, well, I gave it a go. You're

:36:31. > :36:40.

:36:40. > :36:45.right, Kris. A score of zero across Maroney, qualified first. She

:36:45. > :36:55.scored exactly the same execution for those vaults in qualification.

:36:55. > :37:00.

:37:00. > :37:08.massive vaulting! I have never seen anything as high and flighty as

:37:08. > :37:12.that before. A very young gymnast. Not yet 16. So much power. Look at

:37:13. > :37:17.the pop up from the top of the platform. She kicks it out. She has

:37:17. > :37:22.such awareness and such confidence. This is amazing vaulting and you

:37:22. > :37:32.have to give her that. The judges have to do their job and they have

:37:32. > :37:40.

:37:41. > :37:47.got to deduct but it is immense. It carries. She was given the full

:34:57. > :35:01.up backstage, I do not know if I'm relaxed, because I had done the

:35:01. > :35:07.hard part, I do not know. It would have been a bit tricky if I had

:35:07. > :35:12.faced this routine and got cold and gone into London with the gold

:35:12. > :35:18.medal. At the end of the day, I did the rich in Atta World Championship

:35:18. > :35:23.final. And it means so much for you for an experience point of view. In

:35:23. > :35:28.front of this arena. And the fact is, it was just you up there. No

:35:28. > :35:32.other gymnast up there. That must have felt indescribable. I had to

:35:32. > :35:37.use this as a training session for the Olympic Games. It had to be a

:35:37. > :35:41.dress rehearsal. There is not going to be a competition of this kind of

:35:41. > :35:46.magnitude until the Olympics and if this is the routine I want to do,

:35:46. > :35:51.this is the perfect opportunity to do it. And you got a bronze medal

:35:51. > :35:55.and to effectively fell. So what does the bronze mean to you in

:35:55. > :36:00.comparison with the other bronze you have? You just kind of thing,

:36:00. > :36:04.what if? What if I had done the normal routine? All that I can do

:36:07. > :36:15.perfect it and see what I can produce in London. That is all I

:36:26. > :36:31.congratulated me on my routine. But he did a fantastic to do his
