:00:00. > :00:59.Hello and welcome to the World Gymnastics Championships from

:01:00. > :01:04.Glasgow's Hydro arena. What we are about to see is the most incredible

:01:05. > :01:08.display of physical ability, crowds have gathered here from all over the

:01:09. > :01:10.world. For the first day of finals, the best on the planet are here,

:01:11. > :01:35.prepare to be amazed. That is absolutely phenomenal. Full

:01:36. > :01:38.of energy, full of body movement, is literally doesn't stop.

:01:39. > :01:50.That's a quadruple twist, absolutely nailed.

:01:51. > :02:07.He made all the terms, all the control. Great showman of

:02:08. > :02:13.gymnastics. So easy, so powerful. Fantastic, he could not have done

:02:14. > :02:18.that better. That is the performance of a champion.

:02:19. > :02:24.They are here and so are we. Sitting alongside me to enjoy a wonderful

:02:25. > :02:28.week of competition is multiple world medallist Beth Tweddle and

:02:29. > :02:34.all-around silver-medallist Dan Keating 's. Welcome. Performing in

:02:35. > :02:37.front of a home crowd, this is the second time in ten years that Great

:02:38. > :02:42.Britain have held the World Championships. The last time you

:02:43. > :02:45.both got medals. A wonderful performance from yourself and the

:02:46. > :02:49.crowd at home doesn't make a difference doesn't it? My best

:02:50. > :02:54.results have been in front of a home crowd, silver medal at the World

:02:55. > :02:58.Championships in the O2 Arena and Birmingham, 2010, European gold, it

:02:59. > :03:02.makes you lift your game and it can help them do it here. You have a

:03:03. > :03:08.World Championship title, 2009, London. Pretty special for any

:03:09. > :03:12.gymnast to walk into this kind of arena but a home crowd, as soon as

:03:13. > :03:16.you step up, the noise is unbelievable. It gives you a buzz

:03:17. > :03:23.and that is one thing I miss about competing. Still time, Beth. You

:03:24. > :03:26.never know what can happen. Let's have a look at the schedule and see

:03:27. > :03:32.if we can slip you in. LAUGHTER As we go forward:

:03:33. > :03:41.tomorrow is the men's team final. Top 24 gymnasts from qualification

:03:42. > :03:50.on Thursday. The same on Friday for the men. Individual apparatus finals

:03:51. > :03:55.on Saturday and Sunday. A quick word on gymnasts you are looking forward

:03:56. > :03:58.to? The British team. International stage, Simone Biles is the talking

:03:59. > :04:04.point, she is going for a hat-trick in the all-around. She also has her

:04:05. > :04:09.team-mate, Gabby Douglas. She semi-retired after London 2012. She

:04:10. > :04:15.has made a comeback but she will have to do a lot to beat Simone

:04:16. > :04:18.Biles, every skill she performs is to perfection. You can see her with

:04:19. > :04:23.her world medal last year and she will not go down lightly without a

:04:24. > :04:27.world title this year. Gabby Douglas, back from almost

:04:28. > :04:32.retirement, here. It was a strange one. She took time out after London

:04:33. > :04:35.to make a decision. She obviously felt she had more to do in the

:04:36. > :04:41.sport, she has come back. She will have to do a lot to beat Simone. She

:04:42. > :04:44.is in a league of her own in this competition. We are concentrating on

:04:45. > :04:49.women's gymnastics tonight, it is lovely to have you with us, though,

:04:50. > :04:55.Dan. Who are the gymnasts you are looking forward to seeing? It is

:04:56. > :05:00.fair to say that he is the best gymnast of all time, male gymnast.

:05:01. > :05:06.He is going for his sixth male title -- world title, looking forward to

:05:07. > :05:14.seeing him. A compatriot of his, the wonderful twisting gymnast on the

:05:15. > :05:18.floor. Kenzo he has around 22 twists in his routine. When I was doing

:05:19. > :06:50.floor routines I only had about ten. 22! Even from a world floor

:06:51. > :07:09.The once mighty Romania in Duarte a new low. Now the Olympic hopes are

:07:10. > :07:12.pinned on the test event, no such problems 14 USA, they powered

:07:13. > :07:18.through in first place, by some distance. -- for team USA. She

:07:19. > :07:23.showed why she is the favourite for her third all-round world title. It

:07:24. > :07:28.would be breaking history, and if I can do that, that will be cooler.

:07:29. > :07:34.There is a challenge from close to home, Gabrielle Douglas, back in the

:07:35. > :07:42.game, after a 2 one half year wait. STUDIO: We can put that into

:07:43. > :07:47.context, we have the USA, the highs qualifiers by a long shot, and then

:07:48. > :07:51.Russia and Great in third. The Netherlands, the first time they

:07:52. > :07:55.have qualified for the Olympics since 1976. In qualification they

:07:56. > :08:02.were clean and tidy and they did not have took out any falls. You should

:08:03. > :08:11.have seen the excitement on their faces, there was any -- hardly any

:08:12. > :08:16.margin, but there was great relief on their face. It was great for them

:08:17. > :08:19.to have the qualification use, now they can just enjoy this team final.

:08:20. > :08:24.Yes, that was the focus coming into they can just enjoy this team final.

:08:25. > :08:28.you are walking away with nine months leading into Rio, not having

:08:29. > :08:34.to go to the test event, that takes the pressure off and now they can go

:08:35. > :08:39.and enjoy tonight. They qualified in third, but the pressure is not

:08:40. > :08:43.really on them. Exactly. China have got a lot to prove, coming behind

:08:44. > :08:47.Great Britain, but going back to that graphic. What a shock to see

:08:48. > :08:55.remaining, they have got to go for the Rio test event -- to see

:08:56. > :09:01.Romania. That is hard to do. It is, very hard, when we did not make it,

:09:02. > :09:09.we really wanted that spot, so we could prepare for London 2012, but

:09:10. > :09:11.not having done that, we had to miss Christmas and New Year and go

:09:12. > :09:15.straight into the competition and there was not much time at all. The

:09:16. > :09:21.shock that went around this place, to watch Romania crumble and not

:09:22. > :09:26.make the top eight, almost unheard of. It was a shock, they were in the

:09:27. > :09:29.First Division, and they had a nightmare, there were falls, and

:09:30. > :09:35.they were very unlucky with injuries, and they lost one of their

:09:36. > :09:39.best just beforehand, and then they lost another one. It was a

:09:40. > :09:43.disappointment for them, but I'm sure they will come back fighting.

:09:44. > :09:49.They will come back in April, ready to go to Rio. Great Britain had a

:09:50. > :09:52.storming qualification and they made many individual apparatus finals, as

:09:53. > :09:59.well, and so we can give you confirmation. Amy Tinkler is

:10:00. > :10:10.alongside Ruby Harrold, who has two finals.

:10:11. > :10:16.The best result that the great British women have had at the World

:10:17. > :10:19.Championships, from 18 perspective, that was your last event, in 2011,

:10:20. > :10:24.that was fifth-place -- from a team-macro perspective. Great

:10:25. > :10:28.Britain have qualified in third place, shall we meet the women who

:10:29. > :10:41.are hoping to do a first for Great Britain and get their hands on a

:10:42. > :10:44.world team medal. Feeling very excited, I cannot wait to get out

:10:45. > :10:49.there, we jumped so much together and we all love each other we have a

:10:50. > :10:54.good time together. Leading up to the Olympics next year is all about

:10:55. > :10:57.gaining experience. We know each other's routines and we know each

:10:58. > :11:03.other as people and so we can hopefully go out there and do the

:11:04. > :11:08.best we can. The start of the cycle is quite difficult, coming back from

:11:09. > :11:14.injury and by the end of 2013I was feeling quite down on myself, but

:11:15. > :11:17.now I'm really enjoying it. I never know what competition is going to be

:11:18. > :11:21.like, but I will try to use my knowledge and give that to the

:11:22. > :11:27.little ones. We are all very close, like a second family, really. Even

:11:28. > :11:31.at the beginning of the year, just moving into the senior competition

:11:32. > :11:38.they have all supported me, and kept me calm and told us what to expect,

:11:39. > :11:40.really. I'm quite confident going into the championships, because

:11:41. > :11:45.everything has been going good in training. If everything was up and

:11:46. > :11:49.down I would be more nervous, and obviously you will be nervous on the

:11:50. > :11:53.day, but until I get there, I'm just looking forward to the experience.

:11:54. > :11:58.She knows what she wants, she might be young, but she acts as if she is

:11:59. > :12:03.25. She will go out and give that her best shot, and I do not know

:12:04. > :12:07.what I'm like out in the world yet, so I got to go out there and give my

:12:08. > :12:11.best and see where I end up. I'd been training for so long and had so

:12:12. > :12:16.many trials, and so to be able to go out and compete, I'm really excited,

:12:17. > :12:22.and so I think we are all prepared. I would just like to go out and have

:12:23. > :12:26.a strong event. I never would have thought, that anything like this

:12:27. > :12:34.would have happened, it will be incredible, and I can't wait.

:12:35. > :12:37.STUDIO: As it stands, there has been 40 minutes of competition and we

:12:38. > :12:40.will bring you up-to-date with what has been going on. Plenty of

:12:41. > :12:45.gymnastics to go, we know the Americans, the current world

:12:46. > :12:48.champions, they are a long way ahead of the field Aspar as qualification

:12:49. > :12:54.is concerned, and so we are looking at second and third -- as far as

:12:55. > :13:00.qualification is concerned. China and Russia. The British, if we go

:13:01. > :13:06.clean, we could be in for a shout for third, but we will have to go

:13:07. > :13:10.clean on every single piece. Go on. I think the same, I would like to

:13:11. > :13:14.see Britain get the third medal, it is about going clean and then hoping

:13:15. > :13:18.the other countries make a mistake. We can now bring you up-to-date with

:13:19. > :13:25.what has been going on, we can give you an idea of who is starting

:13:26. > :13:35.where. USA and Russia and vault. -- on vault. Over two bars, Rebecca

:13:36. > :13:43.Downie, previous European champion, leading the way. China was second at

:13:44. > :13:52.last year's World Championships. The Italians and the Japanese are on the

:13:53. > :13:57.beams. Canada and the Netherlands, they are on floor. We will get

:13:58. > :14:08.straight into the action, with our commentary team.

:14:09. > :14:18.COMMENTATOR: Gabrielle Douglas, she leads off with this immensely

:14:19. > :14:24.powerful American same. The Olympic champion opens proceedings. The

:14:25. > :14:39.double twist. She is leading this team.

:14:40. > :14:45.We can see this again, just one vault for the girls in competition,

:14:46. > :15:00.and there was not much wrong with that, was there? It has got to start

:15:01. > :15:16.a score of 5.8. Her score, 15.233, a great score to begin. Ruby Harrold,

:15:17. > :15:26.from Great Britain, she is arm bars. -- on. Hugely important routine for

:15:27. > :15:30.Great Britain, the first one up, for turning, very complex, this is a

:15:31. > :15:35.difficult combination, the half-time, and straight back to the

:15:36. > :15:40.low bar, beautiful handstand. Immediately into the full pirouette,

:15:41. > :15:45.and then a shoot to the high bar, she does that calmly, and now the

:15:46. > :15:53.big release. Half term, and then she read grasped -- half turn. Up, two

:15:54. > :16:01.somersaults, beautiful landing, what a start for Great Britain. Great

:16:02. > :16:06.stuff of Great Britain, very confident performance. Ruby Harrold.

:16:07. > :16:14.Under control throughout that routine. Great start.

:16:15. > :16:27.Ruby Harrold. Good start. For the British team.

:16:28. > :16:37.Look at the power and approach. Two and a half twists. Such difficulty

:16:38. > :16:44.and so beautifully performed. Plenty of aggression and power.

:16:45. > :16:51.Look at this, she harnesses it through the round off, 2 one half

:16:52. > :16:59.twists, almost bang on centre. Forgive her that. Huge push.

:17:00. > :17:22.INTERFERENCE two and a half twists. World champion, Simone Biles. Look

:17:23. > :17:40.at that. Phenomenal vaulter. Look at the height and style and power.

:17:41. > :17:49.So very little to deduct. Massive height, massive length. Just a

:17:50. > :17:52.deduction for her little hop. The style, her legs locked together,

:17:53. > :18:05.right in the middle of the mat. Look at that score.

:18:06. > :18:26.too grief in the team qualification...

:18:27. > :18:31.too grief in the team shame she was rising up

:18:32. > :18:35.too grief in the team action. She is a powerful gymnast on

:18:36. > :18:40.the bars. You really feel for them when that happens. She has been a

:18:41. > :18:47.bit unsettled. She got over the problem area she had before. Full

:18:48. > :18:49.pirouette, very nicely done, straight down to the low bar. This

:18:50. > :18:56.is a big element as well. Half term. straight down to the low bar. This

:18:57. > :19:01.Up to the handstand. Smoothly swinging. Up into the double

:19:02. > :19:08.straight somersault. Beautiful finish. She recovered so well. She

:19:09. > :19:21.did. Next element mentality you could call that.

:19:22. > :19:29.You can see her hands didn't get over the bar, she was close enough.

:19:30. > :19:36.What might have been. The final gymnast for Great Britain,

:19:37. > :19:50.Rebecca Downie. That was a huge amount of

:19:51. > :19:58.difficulty. Lovely pirouette and she finishes in the handstand, such a

:19:59. > :20:07.stylus stylish control gymnast, the flight down to the lower bar. Back

:20:08. > :20:11.up to the high bar. Clean half term, just the dismount to go. Lift, full

:20:12. > :20:12.up to the high bar. Clean half term, twist and wonderful performance,

:20:13. > :20:27.great execution. landing on the floor, meeting it

:20:28. > :20:48.perfectly. Rebecca Downie's landing on the floor, meeting it

:20:49. > :20:56.14.833. You can see the team total at this stage.

:20:57. > :21:01.14.833. You can see the team total the Russian performers, Viktoriia

:21:02. > :21:13.Komovoa. Measured approach. The double twist. Clean in flight.

:21:14. > :21:25.Need to stay stretched as possible, and she just gets it down and that

:21:26. > :21:28.is a lovely vault. Huge push and then the double twist, and she

:21:29. > :21:58.controls the landing, eventually. Chunsong Shang now, from China, on

:21:59. > :22:03.bars. That is a big jump, she is a tiny gymnast, but she has got some

:22:04. > :22:12.big skills. Once to make the immediate impact. -- wants. The jump

:22:13. > :22:18.from the low, immediate, that is a lovely combination. The grip, and

:22:19. > :22:26.the full pirouette, leading off with the hand, another full pirouette,

:22:27. > :22:31.the half turn, just needs to concentrate hard. The full twisting

:22:32. > :22:43.back, very clean opening performance from China.

:22:44. > :22:56.Not a bad score. Maria Paseka for Russia, one of their star

:22:57. > :23:04.competitors. Plenty of power. This time with two and a half twists,

:23:05. > :23:08.strong, powerful, controlled. The level as you would expect, because

:23:09. > :23:18.Russia and the United States are very high indeed. Maria Paseka, two

:23:19. > :23:22.and a half twists. Powerful stuff, just look at the height, and the

:23:23. > :23:31.line, slightly crossed over, the legs. But she finds a way through

:23:32. > :23:48.beautifully. Two and a half twists. Building nicely.

:23:49. > :23:58.Ksenila Afanaseva, from Russia, what can she do? She has been vaulting

:23:59. > :24:02.really well, is she going to do so again? Very nice indeed, very good

:24:03. > :24:22.twists and control. The round of two twists and the

:24:23. > :24:29.little pace and landing. -- on landing. Not many deductions,

:24:30. > :24:44.beautiful down the line. Building nicely with that score. This Sony at

:24:45. > :24:52.a saver, from Russia. -- Ksenila Afanaseva. She has been vaulting,

:24:53. > :24:55.very well, what is she going to do this time? Very nice indeed. Good

:24:56. > :25:13.twists, and good control. The round of two twists, the little

:25:14. > :25:23.pace on landing. Not too many deductions. Beautifully down the

:25:24. > :25:35.line. All of the Russians in the 15th.

:25:36. > :25:47.Yilin Fan from China, she is the next gymnast and the bars. -- on.

:25:48. > :25:54.Beautiful peril -- pirouette and that was a good transfer to the

:25:55. > :26:07.higher bar. Very fluid. Lovely grace in those turns. The dismount, she

:26:08. > :26:40.was a bit unsettled in that routine. 15.266 is her score. An hour from

:26:41. > :26:48.Japan, Asuka Teramoto. Japan impressed greatly in the

:26:49. > :26:53.qualification competition. Very well controlled double Spain, one of the

:26:54. > :27:03.moves which has given the high difficulty rating -- double spin.

:27:04. > :27:10.Another move with great difficulty, the high turn onto the hands.

:27:11. > :27:17.Difficult, but well howled. Straight into the jump, that is where she

:27:18. > :27:25.gets a bonus -- well hold. Important to show good rhythm and the beam,

:27:26. > :27:29.long pauses are deducted, and that is where you get the deductions from

:27:30. > :27:39.the execution score, little bits from that. Changing the link to a

:27:40. > :27:49.cartwheel, she is light and smooth, those are the leaps every gene --

:27:50. > :27:58.gymnast must include. Setting herself up. The big round of for the

:27:59. > :28:09.big this map, triple twist, very well performs -- for the big this

:28:10. > :28:14.mount. Big challenge, Liverpool the beam.

:28:15. > :28:35.That is OK, she managed it well. And of course, when you have a wobble

:28:36. > :29:05.like that, you do lose marks. Asuka Teramoto with 13.9 on beams.

:29:06. > :29:15.Oh! Catching it a bit flat, but she has worked out of it very well,

:29:16. > :29:19.covered up, and watch the dismount, lovely double straight, great

:29:20. > :29:26.landing, very good performance from the Chinese team. The stuff of

:29:27. > :29:36.dreams, and landing like that, absolutely nailed. She winds up, it

:29:37. > :29:38.separates the swing, fast around the bar and then she can hold the lovely

:29:39. > :30:05.straight shape. would absolutely nailed their faults

:30:06. > :30:10.and stretch ahead of the rest of the world, which is exactly what they

:30:11. > :30:14.did. -- there vault fool. The battle is on between Russia and China.

:30:15. > :30:17.Ellie Downie will be competing on every single piece today. A

:30:18. > :30:20.difficult start but they have every single piece today. A

:30:21. > :30:25.close team, they will pick up their every single piece today. A

:30:26. > :30:29.numerous competitions, they every single piece today. A

:30:30. > :30:31.to overcome that mistake and get every single piece today. A

:30:32. > :30:35.ready for the beam. She has a rest, they will go second up on the next

:30:36. > :30:38.ready for the beam. She has a rest, piece of apparatus. Beam. It

:30:39. > :30:43.ready for the beam. She has a rest, them time. It is beam, jitters will

:30:44. > :30:47.be evident, no doubt, but this is a key piece for China. As far as Great

:30:48. > :30:52.Britain is concerned, two marks up on difficulty. Let's explain this

:30:53. > :30:55.difficulty and execution if we can, for new viewers, they do it quite

:30:56. > :31:00.understand what is happening with these scores. The more difficulty

:31:01. > :31:05.there is, the harder the routine, more room for mistakes. If you have

:31:06. > :31:07.a lower start, you have got to try and hit that routine perfectly with

:31:08. > :31:11.no wobbles to get a big and hit that routine perfectly with

:31:12. > :31:17.of the other countries have more room for error. If you're looking

:31:18. > :31:22.around a sixth start value, your whole routine is marked out of 16

:31:23. > :31:27.with that perfect ten in the mix as well? For example, if a gymnast

:31:28. > :31:34.falls, they lose a hallmark of execution. A bit of a wobble can be

:31:35. > :31:38.one tenth or three tenths. Every little wobble will count on the beam

:31:39. > :31:40.and the fact that the British are two marks behind China with the

:31:41. > :31:46.difficulty, they have clean on the beam. They had a good

:31:47. > :31:52.qualification. They did. I am confident.

:31:53. > :31:54.bars, Russia have the highest qualifying, second-highest qualifier

:31:55. > :31:56.bars, Russia have the highest going in that technique, this is a

:31:57. > :32:00.bars, Russia have the highest very strong piece

:32:01. > :32:01.bars, Russia have the highest Russia's bars against China's Keane

:32:02. > :32:08.at the moment. It is. Russia is renowned for

:32:09. > :32:12.beautiful bar work, great qualification and China didn't have

:32:13. > :32:16.a great time on beam in qualification, quite a few falls.

:32:17. > :32:21.They will be working on that in the past couple of days of training.

:32:22. > :32:24.Beam is... Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, the Chinese

:32:25. > :32:29.are renowned for this piece but we have seen a lot of errors recently

:32:30. > :32:32.from them. It was quite nice to see big sister Becky come out

:32:33. > :32:34.from them. It was quite nice to see what she did. That was so important,

:32:35. > :32:40.that bar routine, following her sister's fall over. Consoling her in

:32:41. > :32:45.some way and say I will do this not just for you but the team as well.

:32:46. > :32:48.Definitely. Important for Becky as she failed in the

:32:49. > :32:51.Definitely. Important for Becky as She was going to be nervous in that

:32:52. > :32:56.routine, already counting before, but she smashed it, amazing witty

:32:57. > :33:01.and I am happy for her -- counting the fall Let's hope they continue to

:33:02. > :33:07.smash it on the second piece of apparatus. Here is who is aware. The

:33:08. > :33:08.Netherlands and Canada on vault. We were just talking about Russia and

:33:09. > :33:15.the USA. Let's get back to Mitch and

:33:16. > :33:33.Christine in the commentary box. Yilin Fan moves to beam.

:33:34. > :33:40.Traditionally the stronghold of the Chinese gymnasts. They are wonderful

:33:41. > :33:49.technicians on the beam, very subtle. Effortless. It makes working

:33:50. > :33:52.on the beam much easier. Very dynamic as well, the round off,

:33:53. > :34:07.straight back somersault, two jumps. Change Lake leap, she took her head

:34:08. > :34:12.right back, to disguise a wobble on the full spin. Spins, leaps,

:34:13. > :34:17.acrobatics are the things that have to be performed on the beam. Very

:34:18. > :34:20.secure on the free walk over. Another good jump. Showing how

:34:21. > :34:38.supple she is. She probably would have chosen to

:34:39. > :34:42.leap those are two elements and that would have given her a bit more of a

:34:43. > :34:48.bonus, but she did not give too much away by wobbling too much. Very

:34:49. > :34:51.focused on the end of the beam for the two and a half twists, just a

:34:52. > :34:57.step back. It was a good, solid start for China.

:34:58. > :35:05.Just a bit unsteady on that landing. Stepped back. A lot of good work.

:35:06. > :35:19.Lovely, second with full term, beautifully done, there is the

:35:20. > :35:28.third. -- full-term Mac. Very accurate start.

:35:29. > :35:40.Nice Jager. Cleanly done. Finding handstand. A bit late with that one.

:35:41. > :35:48.Full twisting double, good routine. No wasted elements. Very good work,

:35:49. > :35:51.there, bronze-medallist last year in the World Championships.

:35:52. > :36:00.So clean. A bit late completing the handstand but the dismount was just

:36:01. > :36:03.what she would have wanted. Accurate and difficult.

:36:04. > :36:42.Are unusual start, the gymnasts have to work load to the beam. Quite

:36:43. > :36:45.favoured to start with a lowdown elements like that. You can see why

:36:46. > :36:50.the focus, from somersault with half term, beautifully flighted. And the

:36:51. > :36:55.most difficult to move you will see. The leap with the head right

:36:56. > :37:00.back, and another one. Quite disconcerting to stick your head

:37:01. > :37:05.right back off the beam. Especially in an arena with sparkly lights. You

:37:06. > :37:11.can see her focus, another big element, here. Oh. She held it well,

:37:12. > :37:19.round off straight back somersault. This is packed with difficulty. This

:37:20. > :37:24.time she didn't manage to control it, the front somersault just tipped

:37:25. > :37:31.the shoulder to the side. You could see a couple of elements had been a

:37:32. > :37:35.bit wobbly. It builds and builds. Strong free walk over, though,

:37:36. > :37:44.although she changed her mind and did not do the leap afterwards. Full

:37:45. > :37:50.spin, have to be included. Two confident leaps.

:37:51. > :37:56.So important, with only three people working and every school has to

:37:57. > :38:01.count, she must nail the landing as well and she does. Good triple twist

:38:02. > :38:08.to finish but at least one mark off for the fall. We thought it was

:38:09. > :38:13.their best piece, but they have had some problems. Very unusually, China

:38:14. > :38:17.following on a strong apparatus for them that Iraq China faltering.

:38:18. > :38:26.The routine is packed with difficulty, she had already done it.

:38:27. > :38:37.A bit disappointed with that, so will the Chinese team be. Russian

:38:38. > :38:38.Federation in front of China, the Netherlands in third at this stage

:38:39. > :38:49.and Japan in fourth. Now for Great Britain, Ellie Downie

:38:50. > :39:02.approaches the beam. This is her first year as a senior,

:39:03. > :39:07.she was outstanding in the junior ranks.

:39:08. > :39:14.But, it's a big ask, to be one of the three depended on for your

:39:15. > :39:20.country and the World Championship final. Beautiful front somersault,

:39:21. > :39:27.but this is a super difficult element. Half turn into different

:39:28. > :39:35.somersault, we call it a standing Arabian. You can see her fantastic

:39:36. > :39:41.power. Change Lake leap and immediately change Lake half. She

:39:42. > :39:48.controls herself well. Very difficult routine. This is a

:39:49. > :39:55.difficult element. You are an cited. Losing sight of the beam twice. The

:39:56. > :39:55.element that all gymnasts have to include, the acrobatic series.

:39:56. > :40:10.Really well performed. She needs to keep our eyes on the

:40:11. > :40:17.beam and control the centre of the body. Whilst being elegant and

:40:18. > :40:24.dancing beautifully, which, she is. Poise and control. She needs to keep

:40:25. > :40:26.it right to the end, round off, two and a half twists, fantastic

:40:27. > :40:29.performance from Ellie Downie. What a start for Great Britain. What a

:40:30. > :40:43.start! STUDIO: Smiles all around and relief

:40:44. > :40:46.for Ellie Downie to have got through that. It shows her strength of

:40:47. > :40:50.character, she is a determined gymnast, she gets out there and she

:40:51. > :40:54.knows she made a mistake on bars, but nothing to do about it but

:40:55. > :40:59.fightback in the rest. That routine, we could not have asked any more of

:41:00. > :41:04.her. To have watched the Chinese, take some tumbles and rumbles, and

:41:05. > :41:09.remain composed and think, OK, this is it, I have had a fall but I will

:41:10. > :41:12.put that behind me. She has put the bar behind her and moved on to the

:41:13. > :41:15.beam, seeing the Chinese have some wobbles and she has put in a great

:41:16. > :41:21.routine which will boost the confidence of the team. We have now

:41:22. > :41:26.caught up, let's head back down into the

:41:27. > :41:57.USA Madison Kocian. Bar specialist for them. Lovely, clean start.

:41:58. > :42:02.Handstand so important to hit for them. Lovely, clean start.

:42:03. > :42:14.Clean and confident. This time again for them. Lovely, clean start.

:42:15. > :42:21.Straddling the Jager in front somersault. Confident staff. Full

:42:22. > :42:31.turn a tiny bit late into the twisting double. Strong. Yes. Very

:42:32. > :42:37.elegant gymnast, she is from a gym where they have always produced

:42:38. > :42:43.beautiful, stylish are workers. But as a nation, the bars is not their

:42:44. > :42:48.best piece, is it? Ellie Downie, 14.133 for Great Britain on the

:42:49. > :42:51.beam. Come on, finish it! You can hear her

:42:52. > :42:57.beam. Come on, finish it! You can sister. Now we see her big sister.

:42:58. > :43:02.Rebecca Downie. CHEERING Be experienced member of this

:43:03. > :43:04.Rebecca Downie. CHEERING team. A bit disappointed not to

:43:05. > :43:06.Rebecca Downie. CHEERING qualified for the beam final. That

:43:07. > :43:15.was a strong, secure front somersault. Elegant gymnast.

:43:16. > :43:19.Lovely. Just a tiny little wobble. But when she is on song, she is a

:43:20. > :43:24.beautiful gymnast on the beam. Control on the leg spin. Two leaps

:43:25. > :43:28.effortlessly joined. Full spin. Immediately into the free

:43:29. > :43:41.walk over. A big leap. Change leg. Head back,

:43:42. > :43:55.gymnasts lose sight of the A big leap. Change leg. Head back,

:43:56. > :43:58.to show the ring position. We have seen her elegance. Now we need to

:43:59. > :44:03.see her power on the dismount. Round seen her elegance. Now we need to

:44:04. > :44:08.off, she lifts high, double pike, what a performance. Superstar. A

:44:09. > :44:10.off, she lifts high, double pike, good day for Great Britain, with the

:44:11. > :44:15.Downey family on the beam, great stuff.

:44:16. > :44:27.Just working bars and been today. They will be thrilled to have given

:44:28. > :44:38.them their best. Second rotation. Great score on bars for the USA. It

:44:39. > :44:45.is not their favourite piece, the Great score on bars for the USA. It

:44:46. > :44:49.bars, for the USA, they are generally powerful tumblers and

:44:50. > :44:51.vaulters. Which translates well to beam as well but bars takes a bit of

:44:52. > :44:59.a different style of gymnast. STUDIO:

:45:00. > :45:12.difficulty than the US on bars. Look at that, she means this.

:45:13. > :45:32.Beautifully done, plenty of power. Look at that, she means this.

:45:33. > :45:46.And more of the same, that is beautifully done. Confidently back

:45:47. > :45:49.into the splits. This routine is full of confidence. Plenty of

:45:50. > :46:23.expression. So much energy in this performance.

:46:24. > :46:44.Beautifully presenting. This is important. Another accurate spot and

:46:45. > :46:51.tumble. -- spot on. Great stealth. Rebecca Downie's score, 13.8, that

:46:52. > :46:58.is a good score, and performances in general from the British girls.

:46:59. > :47:04.These are the standings. This is the halfway stage. Great

:47:05. > :47:25.Britain in fifth place. We are halfway through. The vault

:47:26. > :47:28.tends to be more high scoring, so you will often see the countries

:47:29. > :47:39.that have performed on vault a little higher. Margaret Nichols,

:47:40. > :47:47.Alexandra Raisman, Simone Biles, they carry the responsibility for

:47:48. > :47:53.the Americans. Amy Tinkler, Elissa Downie, Claudia Fragapane. Claudia

:47:54. > :47:57.Fragapane, the Commonwealth champion in this very arena, and that very

:47:58. > :48:03.floor, and she will be delighted to be making another appearance here.

:48:04. > :48:08.But we will start with the Italians, and Carlotta Ferlito. She has made

:48:09. > :48:16.the all-round final, as well, the 20-year-old. One and a half twists,

:48:17. > :48:21.it was a bit scrappy. And a bit low, but she lets pleased. In fact, she

:48:22. > :48:30.does look pleased with that. Oh dear. -- she doesn't look pleased

:48:31. > :48:41.with that. She was very light, but very late getting into the air.

:48:42. > :48:53.Amy Tinkler, at her first World Championships, 16 years old, British

:48:54. > :49:05.champion this year, and here we go. Her first performance at this team

:49:06. > :49:10.final. This is a very big opening tumble, she needs plenty of power

:49:11. > :49:22.and high, two twists and two somersaults, she lands beautifully.

:49:23. > :49:25.-- height. We have had a huge first tumble, she waltzes back, that was a

:49:26. > :49:39.big double straight for the second tumble, so adept at landing.

:49:40. > :50:12.Another of the young gymnasts in the British beam, and look at that. --

:50:13. > :50:16.the British team. From Durham gymnastics club, she needs the final

:50:17. > :50:24.tumble, and she has not moved and that landing. What an opening

:50:25. > :50:28.performance. What an Anna Jetty routine, it was powerful and it was

:50:29. > :50:37.pulsing -- what an energetic routine. She is a bubbly gymnast,

:50:38. > :50:43.she is doing the vault here. What a start, this will boost the team to

:50:44. > :50:49.see a performance like this, she loved every moment. She could hardly

:50:50. > :50:51.contain herself, she is loving it. Great Britain, back in the chase.

:50:52. > :51:24.Come on! And across to the bars, this is a

:51:25. > :51:32.quick moving competition, three gymnasts for every team, it moves

:51:33. > :51:46.rapidly along. This is the Canadian champion. She qualified with a 14.1

:51:47. > :51:53.score. She made sure of that start, and that is a good clean transfer,

:51:54. > :52:05.turn, nicely done. Plenty of control with the Tkachev, nice, a clear

:52:06. > :52:16.circle into Tkachev. She held it a long time. Half turn.

:52:17. > :52:25.Double, just pays back, but this is of good stuff. That is why she is

:52:26. > :52:32.the Canadian champion. LAUGHTER Canada, hugely improved team. They

:52:33. > :52:49.absolutely smashed it in qualification. Amy Tinkler, 14.333.

:52:50. > :52:59.Anna Raisman, American, 21 years of age, she got a bronze medal at the

:53:00. > :53:06.London Olympics. Very strong, powerful gymnast, from somersaults

:53:07. > :53:10.to start, immediately into the jump, it is when you link the elements

:53:11. > :53:16.that you get the bonuses and she is a very positive performer. Lovely

:53:17. > :53:21.straight somersault. Not always the most elegant, but one of the most

:53:22. > :53:36.positive that you will see. Two jumps linked. There is the element

:53:37. > :53:48.close to the beam. Strong free cartwheel. Changing, but the second

:53:49. > :53:55.leap was very low, and short of splits, and the judges will deduct

:53:56. > :54:03.for that. Strong, tucked front somersault, she puts those feet so

:54:04. > :54:10.impressively on the beam. Leg lifted and the spin, and then the backspin.

:54:11. > :54:15.-- on the spin. The spin linked together will give her a bonus, but

:54:16. > :54:20.this is the great part of this routine, the dismount, watch

:54:21. > :54:27.closely, half turn, double front, she makes it look as if she has just

:54:28. > :54:30.jumped off the end of the beam. The US stretching their late, they still

:54:31. > :54:35.have the world champion to come for them, this is outstanding

:54:36. > :54:45.gymnastics. Yes, they are so strong and powerful. There is the flip, or

:54:46. > :54:51.most of the site, but there was no hesitation. -- almost. And here,

:54:52. > :55:06.half turn, double front, just spins it. Amazing dismount. The Italian

:55:07. > :55:11.team, Carlotta Ferlito with 14.466 and they are in eighth place at the

:55:12. > :55:15.end of the second rotation, but what a competition developing between

:55:16. > :55:21.Canada and Great Britain, basically performance from performance. That

:55:22. > :55:28.will not do their bit any harm at all, that score from Isabela

:55:29. > :55:32.Onyshko. Vanessa Ferrari has been a world champion, but she is

:55:33. > :55:35.Onyshko. Vanessa Ferrari has been a for Italy, she worked in the

:55:36. > :55:40.qualification but then had to withdraw, and so they are not firing

:55:41. > :55:44.on all cylinders. Testament to her, that she went for the team

:55:45. > :55:47.performance, she put herself on the line, and she went for it and did

:55:48. > :55:52.what she could, and then thought, you know what, I will sit out the

:55:53. > :55:56.team final, you can go and get your experience. That's right, she has

:55:57. > :56:00.always been a great team worker, even when she has not been at her

:56:01. > :56:07.best. She has always turned out for the team. You mention Claudia

:56:08. > :56:17.Fragapane earlier on, the Commonwealth champion, she had a

:56:18. > :56:29.great competition here in Glasgow. That is the score for

:56:30. > :56:37.Simone Biles will be the next gymnast for the Americans on beam, a

:56:38. > :56:43.wonderful story, when she was just 16, she said she could do a double

:56:44. > :56:51.back somersault, and they said, no, go and do that and beam, and she

:56:52. > :56:59.did, having not been taught. -- go and do that on beam. She barely is

:57:00. > :57:02.totally outstanding. Looks like she could do absolutely anything in

:57:03. > :57:12.gymnastics -- she really is totally outstanding. Oh! Front somersault

:57:13. > :57:16.with half turn, she is totally dominating were gymnastics for the

:57:17. > :57:25.last couple of years. -- world gymnastics. Qualified easily as the

:57:26. > :57:31.top performer here. Two lay out somersaults and not the slightest

:57:32. > :57:34.hesitation. The reason she dominates, because her difficulty

:57:35. > :57:44.level is so much higher than anybody else. The links, the difficult

:57:45. > :57:48.moves, the two layouts in succession, the leaps in six

:57:49. > :57:53.session, immediately into the back somersault, that is where the

:57:54. > :57:57.difficulty is built -- succession. She does not wobble around and give

:57:58. > :58:01.too much away to the judges. We have seen a queue of them hesitate with

:58:02. > :58:08.the jump, but she certainly didn't -- few of them. Watch this, full

:58:09. > :58:20.twisting double back, and what a dismount. That is the thing, that

:58:21. > :58:23.beam, it is dead. Amazing stuff. We are men mortals, but that was

:58:24. > :58:30.incredible. Just look at the control. The strength and the

:58:31. > :58:35.support, to hold that crouch position, up on the toe, that is

:58:36. > :58:48.amazing. She does that on the floor, but she actually does it better and

:58:49. > :58:56.a beam. Incredible. -- on beam. Incredible gymnast. Claudia

:58:57. > :59:04.Fragapane, then, the Great Britain. This is a crucial routine, in this

:59:05. > :59:10.battle with Canada. She's a real bundle of energy, and that is what

:59:11. > :59:15.is needed here. She has got to be accurate, and she has got to be

:59:16. > :59:24.difficult. That is the sort of tumbling we want, fabulous start.

:59:25. > :59:42.Just look at this, burning a hole in that carpet. Super. Harnesses the

:59:43. > :59:55.power. Oh! It is so impressive. So much power.

:59:56. > :00:08.She brings the routine together. She goes again. PowerPro, terrific,

:00:09. > :00:13.absolutely terrific -- power through. Twisting claim, amazing. --

:00:14. > :00:36.twisting claim. I could watch that all-night. Just

:00:37. > :00:41.feeding off the energy coming from this home crowd. Believe it or not,

:00:42. > :00:45.cloudier Fragapane has been injured in the run-up to this, she twisted

:00:46. > :00:49.her ankle is in the first trials and hasn't worked all round because of

:00:50. > :00:53.it but you would never be able to tell. You wouldn't. If you like that

:00:54. > :01:04.routine, you can see it again on the weekend because she is in the

:01:05. > :01:09.football final. -- floor final. Fantastic, triple twist, that is

:01:10. > :01:12.what she injured herself on, great confidence and testament to her

:01:13. > :01:23.coaches and physios and everyone who worked so hard to get her back in

:01:24. > :01:34.shape. Well deserved 14.733. Huge floor score. Top of the day. Look at

:01:35. > :01:43.that for a score. 15.2 on beam. My word.

:01:44. > :01:50.There is the standings at the moment. USA well ahead in Great

:01:51. > :01:55.Britain, still a lot of gymnastics to come, don't get too excited, but

:01:56. > :02:14.they are ahead of Canada. Edging in potentially on the medals.

:02:15. > :02:21.Really powerful gymnast. Powers down. She lifts high. Two twists.

:02:22. > :02:29.Very nicely performed. Putting in a huge amount of effort

:02:30. > :02:36.today, she is working on every piece for Japan. Japan was so impressive.

:02:37. > :02:45.You can see why. Well rehearsed. She met the floor beautifully.

:02:46. > :02:56.First of the Chinese gymnasts on the floor.

:02:57. > :03:09.The Chinese champion just 15 years old.

:03:10. > :03:27.Dramatic music. Double twist double back. Super high tumble.

:03:28. > :03:34.Gymnasts have to work out to the corners, they can't stand and wait.

:03:35. > :03:40.That was... Look at that, one and a half into triple twists, media to

:03:41. > :03:43.punch front. Super work -- immediate punch.

:03:44. > :04:15.Two and a half, very nice lift into the front somersault with half turn.

:04:16. > :04:30.Renowned for the beautiful subtle suppleness. Building up to this

:04:31. > :04:36.tumble. She needs to land well, big double pike, she does, confident.

:04:37. > :04:41.Really good opener for China on a piece of apparatus that is not

:04:42. > :04:45.traditionally their best. A lot of pressure on them. Almost two marks

:04:46. > :04:50.behind Russia, going into this rotation. Russia having done a very

:04:51. > :04:58.strong performance on bars, they are now on beam at the moment. They have

:04:59. > :04:59.got some very good beam workers, Russia, we will catch up with them

:05:00. > :05:18.very shortly. Russia. Last year's bronze-medallist

:05:19. > :05:42.in this team final. Two flips into a good high straight

:05:43. > :05:49.back somersault and she had to work hard to control that slightly off.

:05:50. > :05:56.The judges have to decide whether the feet touched the head, there.

:05:57. > :06:02.That was secure. Very nice free cartwheel. And a definite join

:06:03. > :06:13.between the leap and the somersault.

:06:14. > :06:23.Two difficult leaps. Some deductions. My goodness me! What

:06:24. > :06:32.should be a Brit of Lee simple spin for her ends in a fall -- relatively

:06:33. > :06:38.simple. Loss of concentration. Near the end of the routine as well.

:06:39. > :06:44.Easily done. She must focus for the dismount. Double pike. She does,

:06:45. > :06:47.Easily done. She must focus for the that will be costly. Not something

:06:48. > :06:51.you would expect from a European beam champion. No, indeed.

:06:52. > :07:00.She has good rhythm. Sometimes the rhythm can overtake the

:07:01. > :07:01.concentration. She could do that every day of the week, that

:07:02. > :07:20.element. The first gymnast to go sat down on

:07:21. > :07:43.her dismount. Wang Yang, 14.633 for her floor routine. Very good score.

:07:44. > :07:52.great approach. One and a half twists. Was it straight? A close

:07:53. > :07:55.look on the replay, we will take. I am never quite sure where the line

:07:56. > :08:01.is drawn. She nominated straight, but she held her body quite

:08:02. > :08:05.straight. That was straight. I think they will give her a bit of a

:08:06. > :08:07.deduction for pie King down on landing.

:08:08. > :08:13.deduction for pie King down on here, isn't it? Huge vault. She had

:08:14. > :08:19.to pike it down. Otherwise she would have run out of air. 6.2 is the

:08:20. > :08:26.tariff, if they thought it was perfect it would be 16.2. 15.166.

:08:27. > :08:30.What a great score, that will keep them ahead of the Italians. Seventh,

:08:31. > :08:36.going into this rotation. They have moved ahead of Great

:08:37. > :08:51.Britain at the moment. By less than one tenth. But they are

:08:52. > :08:54.ahead. 3M, three to go. It can change so easily. -- three in. .

:08:55. > :08:59.Former European champion. change so easily. -- three in. .

:09:00. > :09:08.having a very happy time on the beam at all. Viktoria

:09:09. > :09:12.and characteristic, they got the second highest score as a country on

:09:13. > :09:16.this piece of apparatus in qualification but what a different

:09:17. > :09:23.story, Chris. It is the piece of apparatus that can easily come to

:09:24. > :09:31.grief. However much you train, the nerves can kick in. The three up, 3

:09:32. > :09:36.to count is a lot of pressure on these gymnasts. But this has been

:09:37. > :09:42.very nice, so far. A couple of wobbles. But, she looks like she is

:09:43. > :09:49.well focused. Such a stylist and beautiful gymnast. Arabian

:09:50. > :09:55.somersault, feet down the side. Like you said, Matt. This is proving to

:09:56. > :09:59.be very costly for Russia. However beautiful the gymnastics is, you

:10:00. > :10:09.have to stay on, on the day. You have to be able to perform. Leg held

:10:10. > :10:14.on the spin. Steely concentration in her eyes, she knows she can't let

:10:15. > :10:18.herself go to pieces. So easy, when you have had a 1 fall, to let it

:10:19. > :10:28.turn into two or three. She knows she has to keep focused.

:10:29. > :10:37.Beautiful body shape. Now we have to see her perform well. Two flips,

:10:38. > :10:44.double back somersault. She held that. But, that was a wobbly old

:10:45. > :10:48.routine. So important to hold onto every single 10th you can when you

:10:49. > :10:52.have a costly deduction like that. Absolutely. The big challenges to

:10:53. > :10:55.get up and get on with the routine. To pick up your focus again. It

:10:56. > :11:05.really hits you, psychologically. But, she never really settled, did

:11:06. > :11:09.she, Chris? She didn't, she wobbled on the first couple of elements, you

:11:10. > :11:13.are right, she just did not. Subtle. But, when you have already

:11:14. > :11:17.seen two team makes make mistakes, you are under a lot of pressure as

:11:18. > :11:22.you come into a routine. Both of those gymnasts are 0.7 down on their

:11:23. > :11:35.qualification score. Edgy times within the Russian camp, here.

:11:36. > :11:43.Chunsong Shang will know exactly what has been going on. She is the

:11:44. > :11:47.last gymnast on floor, for China. Got a silver at the Chinese

:11:48. > :11:53.Championships on this piece not so long ago. How much power is in that

:11:54. > :11:59.tiny frame? We are about to find out. Impressive stuff. Too and a

:12:00. > :12:22.full twist. -- two and a half into. Twisting her way through these

:12:23. > :12:28.combinations and that was really beautifully done.

:12:29. > :12:34.What did I say about twisting? Amazing.

:12:35. > :13:06.Half twists out of the two and a half twists. They go on and on.

:13:07. > :13:16.Double pike to finish and that is the first falter, we saw her foot go

:13:17. > :13:23.out. Lost form my bit on the final turn. What a shame with her foot out

:13:24. > :13:28.of the area at the end. Just a 0.1 deduction, but China were not good

:13:29. > :13:37.in qualification on floor, these were much better performances. Much

:13:38. > :13:50.stronger. Two steps back and out, a good 0.3 if not a 0.5 deduction.

:13:51. > :13:57.0.5. Each step is 0.1, 0.3. Did they get out of the 13s on beam? I don't

:13:58. > :14:04.think they did. I don't think so either. They have got the floor to

:14:05. > :14:10.try to put things right. Just one more piece to go. Great Britain on

:14:11. > :14:15.the climb. Are we going to see a repeat performance the World

:14:16. > :14:16.Championship team final last year, where China took silver? Russia took

:14:17. > :14:44.bronze. This fabulous arena, you can see the

:14:45. > :14:52.gymnasts March round to their final piece. It's intense.

:14:53. > :14:58.We can bet where the gold is going. But it is tight underneath. There is

:14:59. > :15:12.indeed. There is, indeed. Just waiting for a few final

:15:13. > :15:24.calculations and then we can bring you the standings of how things look

:15:25. > :15:33.in the women's team final. Still waiting for that last Chinese

:15:34. > :15:44.gymnast score from the floor. Gymnasts of the first team, they are

:15:45. > :15:47.off to Walmart. Russia and USA, being the top qualifiers -- they are

:15:48. > :15:53.off to warm up. They will finish here on the floor. While we are

:15:54. > :15:57.waiting for the gymnasts, we can have a word with the former floor

:15:58. > :16:07.world champion, Beth Tweddle. Your thoughts and Amy Tinkler -- on Amy

:16:08. > :16:10.Tinkler? That was fantastic a great birthday present for her, and she

:16:11. > :16:15.wowed the crowd and it looks like she really enjoys that routine.

:16:16. > :16:20.Great hopes for the future when you see a gymnast who can come into an

:16:21. > :16:24.arena like this and just drive. Yes, as soon as she studied the routine,

:16:25. > :16:28.the double double, she nailed it, and I know she has got other tumbles

:16:29. > :16:33.in the bag and so she is definitely a start of the future. Your thoughts

:16:34. > :16:39.on what is happening to Russia at the moment? What has happened? They

:16:40. > :16:44.should be full of confidence going into beam, but every gymnast had an

:16:45. > :16:47.issue. They did not look like they even tried to fight to stay on and

:16:48. > :16:51.they will have two keep their heads up and go into the final piece,

:16:52. > :16:57.because they could actually hand out the bronze medal to Japan or

:16:58. > :17:00.hopefully Great Britain. We can tell you now, the United States, without

:17:01. > :17:10.a doubt, they are well ahead of the rest. China have gone ahead in front

:17:11. > :17:15.of Russia. There is a real battle going on between Japan, Great

:17:16. > :17:19.Britain, and Canada. Yes, there is, Great Britain are in a great

:17:20. > :17:23.position, because they are and vault, they know that, they have got

:17:24. > :17:30.three double twist stash they are on vault. It is up to the others to

:17:31. > :17:33.fight for the third place. Thanks, you can enjoy the rest of the

:17:34. > :17:42.competition and we will speak to you very shortly. Just to reiterate,

:17:43. > :17:51.China and Great Britain on vault, Japan and Italy on uneven bars, and

:17:52. > :17:55.the Netherlands and Canada will be finishing their competition and

:17:56. > :18:03.beam, the final piece of apparatus, and then Russia and the USA, they

:18:04. > :18:08.will wrap things up on the floor. Looking at the scores, China, almost

:18:09. > :18:20.a mark in front of Russia going into this last piece. Floor, does that

:18:21. > :18:27.give as big deductions as vault? What would you rather finish on?

:18:28. > :18:30.Vault, that is for certain. Yan Wang will be the first gymnast with the

:18:31. > :18:37.job of rounding off the Chinese performance. She begins well. The

:18:38. > :18:47.double twist. She was a bit deeper on the landing. -- deep.

:18:48. > :18:52.double twist. She was a bit deeper on the top of the horse, takes the

:18:53. > :18:59.double twist round, a bit low in flight, but tidy enough to open up.

:19:00. > :19:09.That is a big tariff, the six difficulty for that approach. Maria

:19:10. > :19:15.Paseka, now for Russia, she will be the first of the three gymnasts, and

:19:16. > :19:20.a reminder, all three scores are added together, so no margin for the

:19:21. > :19:32.Russians. And their final piece of apparatus. Very convincing and the

:19:33. > :19:48.first Tkachev spin. Two and a half, into front full, difficult tumbles.

:19:49. > :19:53.Russia, beautiful, elegant One and a half twists into another,

:19:54. > :20:24.that time forwards. She hits the splits in the leap

:20:25. > :20:29.well. Now they are allowed one tumble where they stand on two feet

:20:30. > :20:32.and then pause, she has used that, and then the deep landing with steps

:20:33. > :20:43.back. Well, not hugely difficult, very

:20:44. > :20:52.elegant. Is the door open Well, not hugely difficult, very

:20:53. > :21:00.bronze medal pretty mark Japan, Great Britain, Canada -- bronze

:21:01. > :21:03.medal? That is the 1 double back, she did very well not to sit

:21:04. > :21:20.medal? That is the 1 double back, but she will take deductions for the

:21:21. > :21:23.steps back. 15.2, Yan Wang. That is a good score. Looking secure in

:21:24. > :21:36.silver. Good score. Yi Mao,

:21:37. > :21:47.gymnast. Trying to add to Yi Mao,

:21:48. > :21:54.of her team-mate, and that is another good vault. They are pulling

:21:55. > :22:01.them out. There will just be one more performance from a gymnast for

:22:02. > :22:08.China. And the medal will be theirs. She did spin that round. Well done.

:22:09. > :22:17.Powerful, confident Bolton, from the first two Chinese gymnast stash

:22:18. > :22:26.confident vaulting. They are all united.

:22:27. > :22:42.And finally. Jiaxin Tan. She scored 14.866, so she is more than capable.

:22:43. > :22:50.This, then, four silver medal, in the women's team final. -- for. They

:22:51. > :22:54.asked like gymnast, but plenty of determination and that double twist

:22:55. > :23:01.was great. -- they are slight gymnasts. That was the best of what

:23:02. > :23:04.we have seen on the vault. Look how quickly she gets down to that, that

:23:05. > :23:10.is beautiful, and she finished superbly. Lovely straight arms on

:23:11. > :23:23.the top of the platform, and a tiny bit of direction, but the judges

:23:24. > :23:29.will deduct a bit for that. I think they know, even before the scores

:23:30. > :23:31.come up. They've done well. They looked very shaky qualification, but

:23:32. > :23:47.they have performed very well today. Well, Russia have it all to do now,

:23:48. > :23:55.on floor, to just eight in the third place. -- to just stay in third

:23:56. > :23:59.place. They were looking so confident earlier on in second

:24:00. > :24:14.place, but it all seems to crumble. Anxious wait all round. Just waiting

:24:15. > :24:27.for Maria Paseka's score, and we can have a look at a few of her passes.

:24:28. > :24:56.Seda Tutkhalian, it she springs and to vault. She was outstanding last

:24:57. > :25:05.year, she won the youth Olympics. -- she springs and to vault.

:25:06. > :25:49.She links the leaps and tumbles so well, great jump at the end.

:25:50. > :26:12.There is a starter out of the spin. -- stutter. Very efficient. And

:26:13. > :26:22.there is a big pike somersault. Well-controlled, no major mistakes,

:26:23. > :26:25.but not really hugely difficult. There is one more per forwards to go

:26:26. > :26:30.for Russia and that will be their competition over with -- there is

:26:31. > :26:39.one more but forwards to go for Russia. And then we will see Great

:26:40. > :26:45.Britain take to vault. 15.2, Jiaxin Tan. That is a very good score four

:26:46. > :26:58.double twist in, that is a big score.

:26:59. > :27:28.Beautiful turn, nicely controlled. The half turn. This is a good start.

:27:29. > :27:40.Find a way to the lower bar, that is a good transfer. The big wind-up.

:27:41. > :27:48.Full twisting double, nicely done. The Japanese are piling on the

:27:49. > :27:51.pressure on the Russians. Just outside of the medals at last year

:27:52. > :28:03.'s World Championships on the uneven bars, that gymnast.

:28:04. > :28:13.She is a powerful sparkly little gymnast, with good technique.

:28:14. > :28:19.Finishes that tumble with the chest really lifted. Which is very good,

:28:20. > :28:25.the judges deduct a lot if your chest is right down at the end of

:28:26. > :28:33.your tumble. She lifts the chest. Met the floor well. But the judges

:28:34. > :28:49.are having a long think. Interesting to see how C -- she gets on in the

:28:50. > :28:56.all-round final, which she has made, she's one to keep your ion in the

:28:57. > :29:05.few years. -- eye on in the next few years. And now the current European

:29:06. > :29:14.champion and floor. -- on floor. One of the highest qualifiers. That was

:29:15. > :29:26.a lovely jump. Super double straight. Did not flinch on the

:29:27. > :29:35.landing. A loss of control at the end of the spin, just a little. Big

:29:36. > :29:51.concentration. Whip, Whip, into triple twist, she held it well. Very

:29:52. > :30:01.experienced gymnast. Pace is the routine beautifully. -- paces. Two

:30:02. > :30:14.and a half, into straight front, cleverly jumped out of it.

:30:15. > :30:33.Certainly selling the routine well. Lots of marks for artistry. She held

:30:34. > :30:36.on a bit too long to that. Very nice finish.

:30:37. > :30:47.They are all smiling, for some reason, I don't know what's gone

:30:48. > :30:54.on. I think it's quite a favourite routine. Right. She had to fight a

:30:55. > :30:57.lot on that double pike, she did really well not to sit down. A

:30:58. > :31:02.couple of occasions I thought she was going to buckle, but she did

:31:03. > :31:06.welcome plenty of fight. That is it, the Russian's competition is

:31:07. > :31:09.over, have they done enough to hang on for a bronze medal? Great Britain

:31:10. > :31:12.will certainly have something to about that. Japan have said what

:31:13. > :31:29.they can already. We will see. 42.556 points behind Japan, Great

:31:30. > :31:45.Britain. If the British girls can do... What

:31:46. > :31:54.they did in qualification, here, they will beat them. Beat Japan?

:31:55. > :31:59.Yes. And we see, again, just how well she did to hold that last

:32:00. > :32:06.somersault. Scored 14.6 in qualification on the floor.

:32:07. > :32:15.Team spirit, that's what we like to see.

:32:16. > :32:20.They took the bronze at last year's World Championships, China were

:32:21. > :32:38.silver and US gold. The US led, really, by... You can

:32:39. > :32:44.take your pick. Simone Biles, two time world champion in Simone Biles.

:32:45. > :32:54.Ali Raisman Olympic champion and Claudia Fragapane, Amy Tinkler... We

:32:55. > :32:58.said how powerful Amy was on floor, she will need all of her energy on

:32:59. > :33:04.this final piece of apparatus. Ellie Downie as well. Putting in great

:33:05. > :33:06.effort, the women's team, today. Just a few moments of preparation.

:33:07. > :33:12.Canadian gymnasts on beam. Led by Elsabeth Black. Tough piece

:33:13. > :33:37.to finish on, Matt, beam. 14.5. But how far out

:33:38. > :33:46.from Great Britain? We will get out the

:33:47. > :34:11.Still, the US are yet to go on floor.

:34:12. > :34:20.Claudia Fragapane. She listens to the roar of the Hydro arena.

:34:21. > :34:21.Commonwealth champion. Look at the pace and conversion, she got it

:34:22. > :34:36.round beautifully. Such attack. Look at this. I mean this, she

:34:37. > :34:43.says. There's your double twist. Almost nailed it. Disguised it

:34:44. > :34:50.well. They need every single 10th they can get, let me just get you

:34:51. > :34:57.excited. 44.633 behind Russia. Scoring in qualifying for Great

:34:58. > :34:59.Britain is 44.865. As we join Margaret Nichols on the floor for

:35:00. > :35:09.the US. She has really been a solid member

:35:10. > :35:23.for them in this Championships. Big opening tumble.

:35:24. > :35:28.Full twisting double back in the second. These gymnasts are so

:35:29. > :36:27.dynamic. Sky-high double back to finish. Not

:36:28. > :36:36.many deductions in that routine at all. Phenomenal. First up. I was

:36:37. > :36:45.going to say, it's only going to get better! I mean, they are just...

:36:46. > :36:50.Talk of sky-high, my goodness. 14.8 for cloudier Fragapane.

:36:51. > :37:01.Just slightly down on qualification but not by much. Come on, Amy. There

:37:02. > :37:12.is a role going around. What an atmosphere. Lifting Amy. And it did

:37:13. > :37:18.the trick, she responded to the crowd. To produce a super double

:37:19. > :37:28.twist. What a great landing that was. Well, well, well. Under extreme

:37:29. > :37:31.pressure, she delivers. You can see how much she has enjoyed this

:37:32. > :37:40.Championships, she has grown with it. Absolutely delighted.

:37:41. > :38:00.Oh, lovely. Great to see that spirit. They've really trained very

:38:01. > :38:05.hard together for the last five or six weeks. It has been a tough

:38:06. > :38:09.regime, but you can see the result of it. Straight down the middle, it

:38:10. > :38:14.is difficult to keep a twists like that so straight. Yes, she's really

:38:15. > :38:20.confident. She has competed this vault for a couple of years and it

:38:21. > :38:21.shows. Such attack. Kelly Simm, who has not worked today, but part of

:38:22. > :38:41.the team that qualified them. Here she is, the next gymnasts up

:38:42. > :38:57.for them. Current Olympic champion on floor.

:38:58. > :39:03.Watched this amazing first tumble, one and a half, round of flip,

:39:04. > :39:17.double Arabian and straight front somersault, unbelievable.

:39:18. > :39:42.Another beautiful double pike Arabian, immediate jump.

:39:43. > :39:52.She knows this music so well. She expresses it beautifully. Double

:39:53. > :40:14.straight somersault. We haven't had a flicker on landing, yet.

:40:15. > :40:23.What magical, huge tumble to finish? Double pike on the spot. That's the

:40:24. > :40:28.only little deduction, what a fabulous example of tumbling out

:40:29. > :40:34.dynamic work on floor. Utterly breathtaking to witness and

:40:35. > :40:36.observe. What a gymnast to look up to, for all those young gymnasts out

:40:37. > :40:46.there, that is the way to do it. Amy Tinkler scores an enormous

:40:47. > :41:16.15.083. Well! Oh! That will do nicely. It is a

:41:17. > :41:22.tremendous vault that could well give Great Britain the first ever

:41:23. > :41:27.medal in a world team final! Another double twist. Consistency,

:41:28. > :41:31.determination and focus. What a team effort. She is a fabulous Volta,

:41:32. > :41:36.anywhere, but she had all that pressure on her shoulders. Hasn't

:41:37. > :41:42.had the greatest of Championships, but that was fantastic vaulting from

:41:43. > :41:46.the British girls. She had a shaky start, the tumble on the first piece

:41:47. > :41:59.of apparatus, but goodness me, if she has done what I think she has,

:42:00. > :42:04.my word. At her age. She is so dynamic. Watch the pop of the top,

:42:05. > :42:08.she really could become a great vaulter in the world of gymnastics.

:42:09. > :42:18.What a team effort, though. Final piece. They really produced it.

:42:19. > :42:25.Absolutely fantastic. CHEERING They've gone ahead of Russia!

:42:26. > :42:33.15.133. That is a bronze medal, for Great Britain! Unbelievable! Look at

:42:34. > :42:40.the coaches! Well! Can you believe it, Mitch? All of the coaches of the

:42:41. > :42:43.British team, there... The emotion, the release, having gone through

:42:44. > :42:50.what she went through at the start of the competition and to seal the

:42:51. > :42:54.deal for Great Britain... That is a first for Great Britain. Look at

:42:55. > :43:04.those coaches. They've all had a stake in this. Brilliant effort.

:43:05. > :43:09.Wow! Look at the emotion, I'm crying myself, Matt!

:43:10. > :43:20.We talked about role models with this girl. We have certainly seen

:43:21. > :43:25.one in Ellie Downie. 15.075, for Alexandra Raisman.

:43:26. > :43:35.One more gymnast to go in this team final competition. The honour falls

:43:36. > :43:40.down to Simone Biles. Two-time world champion and current floor world

:43:41. > :43:47.champion, highest qualifier here at these. Championships. Just watched

:43:48. > :43:48.this. Just say that this. Most fabulous example of pure power in

:43:49. > :43:54.her tumbling. Look at this first tumble, double

:43:55. > :44:11.straight with full twist. Doesn't take a pause. Straight back

:44:12. > :44:42.into that fantastic double straight with half turn.

:44:43. > :44:50.This is the third tumble two with absolute aplomb.

:44:51. > :45:10.double back. Tiniest of hops forward.

:45:11. > :45:24.Great finish, so expressive. Shows her personality perfectly. Great as

:45:25. > :45:27.ever from the USA. It was a foregone conclusion, but what a

:45:28. > :45:29.ever from the USA. It was a foregone competition we have had. It has

:45:30. > :45:35.resulted in a bronze medal for Great Britain. The

:45:36. > :45:40.resulted in a bronze medal for Great gold. China will take silver. Great

:45:41. > :45:46.Britain with a bronze medal, terrific competition. For most of

:45:47. > :45:54.these gymnasts, a fantastic example terrific competition. For most of

:45:55. > :46:02.power, and today was the Russian team at fault,

:46:03. > :46:08.power, and today was the Russian that you cannot fault and women. --

:46:09. > :46:15.falter and win. For the British girls, the coaches on the floor, Liz

:46:16. > :46:23.and Colin, they are there. They did it with style, they held their

:46:24. > :46:32.focus, and reduced three enormous vaults. But you have to hand it to

:46:33. > :46:39.the USA. Look at this power pack of a gymnast. They held their nerve, as

:46:40. > :46:43.well, they did not look so great in qualification and they made mistakes

:46:44. > :46:53.like China, but they really nailed it today. Sheer power, she is, and

:46:54. > :46:59.always will be. And just look at the smile on her face. She exemplifies

:47:00. > :47:04.the joy of performance, doesn't she? She might not be the most graceful

:47:05. > :47:11.gymnast, but you get a sense of enjoyment when you watch her

:47:12. > :47:13.perform. She pulls you in, you cannot stay distant from a

:47:14. > :47:23.performance like that, you want to be part of it, she sells it

:47:24. > :47:31.beautifully. Simone Biles 15.9 in qualification, but the best we have

:47:32. > :47:39.seen was 15.1 today on the floor. 15.733, that sales a golden day for

:47:40. > :47:45.Simone Biles and the USA -- that sales. They have dominated and

:47:46. > :47:58.deservedly so. There is a weakness. -- there is no weakness. The chairs

:47:59. > :48:04.-- cheering is a balance between that for the USA and for the Great

:48:05. > :48:10.Britain same. Oh yes. For the United States, gold medal for them. China,

:48:11. > :48:19.consistent, they have worked hard, to take the silver. You have got to

:48:20. > :48:25.give it to these guys. Great Britain, for the first time, produce

:48:26. > :48:38.a team bronze medal at the World Championships on home territory.

:48:39. > :48:44.Beth Tweddle, you are wiping tears away, this is emotional, I know, we

:48:45. > :48:49.could not quite believe what was happening on the vault, the pressure

:48:50. > :48:52.was on, but they would not have known the intricacy of the scoring

:48:53. > :48:58.details, but they might have thought, they are in with a shout.

:48:59. > :49:01.Yes, we were watching Russia so closely on the floor, and every step

:49:02. > :49:07.they took, we thought they were opening the door, and on that vault,

:49:08. > :49:11.we had the calculators out, working at every step of the way. Fair play

:49:12. > :49:17.to the British, they had the mistake early on, but they got back up, and

:49:18. > :49:27.they fought all the way until the end and that was the difference.

:49:28. > :49:33.Initially, when they took that fall on the bars at the start, we all

:49:34. > :49:37.thought, oh well. Yes, it is difficult, the British team went out

:49:38. > :49:42.there, and they nailed every other routine, and we even heard Amy

:49:43. > :49:46.Tinkler, going, that is the best double twist she has ever done. In

:49:47. > :49:52.the most beautiful Durham accent, I have to add. There is confirmation,

:49:53. > :50:00.the United States, well in front of the rest of the world. Great

:50:01. > :50:08.Britain, well-deserved and well thought for bronze medal -- well

:50:09. > :50:14.fought. It was a great competition, and it can be devastatingly hard. It

:50:15. > :50:17.can, and it showed that with Russia and beam, every single one of them

:50:18. > :50:23.fell and that opened up the door for Great Britain -- on beam. Great

:50:24. > :50:33.Britain were consistent and that put them ahead. And for Ellie to be the

:50:34. > :50:37.genus, putting it right, you could see what that meant to her, the

:50:38. > :50:44.burst of emotion -- to be the gymnast. There was a lot of pressure

:50:45. > :50:47.on her, and she knew that if she did the double twist, the likelihood was

:50:48. > :50:50.they would take the bronze medal, and you could see the rest of them

:50:51. > :50:55.trying to calm her down, and it was very nice to see her get the bronze

:50:56. > :51:04.medal. You are very keen to hear from the women, and so we will go

:51:05. > :51:10.down to David. I am here the world team bronze-medallists, described

:51:11. > :51:13.how you are feeling? This week has been a crazy week, after

:51:14. > :51:18.qualification, I had a big disappointment, and we knew we had

:51:19. > :51:23.the possibility to come fighting, and I had to change things rapidly

:51:24. > :51:28.and I was nervous going up, especially after Ellie, but I said,

:51:29. > :51:32.anything can happen, and we have got to keep on fighting, every single

:51:33. > :51:36.point counts, and after the first mistake the girls did amazing, and I

:51:37. > :51:43.did not have asked for any more and I'm so pleased. Ellie, you had a

:51:44. > :51:49.fall on the bars, but you came back, and Beth Tweddle said he showed real

:51:50. > :51:54.resolve, and what a vault at the end. I was very nervous going into

:51:55. > :51:59.bars, it has been up and down, and I had the mistake, and I had a mistake

:52:00. > :52:04.in qualification and I let it go, and so I knew I had to pull myself

:52:05. > :52:10.together and do my best, and I'm shocked, I cannot believe it. Amy

:52:11. > :52:17.Tinkler, your last vault, how was the pressure going into that? I'm

:52:18. > :52:22.speechless, to be honest. I don't even know what to say, oh my god,

:52:23. > :52:30.I'm so proud of everyone, I can't believe it. What a birthday present.

:52:31. > :52:36.We have one more, Amy Tinkler, happy 16th birthday. Thank you so much. Go

:52:37. > :52:49.and get your medals, well done. Congratulations. STUDIO: She will

:52:50. > :52:55.give us a slice of cake. I'm sure. We chose it, to be fair. We can have

:52:56. > :53:00.a look back at the stunning performances from the British team,

:53:01. > :53:06.and we will go to the floor first. What a debut she has had at this

:53:07. > :53:12.World Championships. Yes, she has looked so cool and she said, she

:53:13. > :53:16.speechless, she has taken every single piece in her stride, she has

:53:17. > :53:22.not let the home crowd or the pressure phase her, she has always

:53:23. > :53:30.thrived on the pressure. You can see at the end of the rude -- routine,

:53:31. > :53:34.the relate, she know she has done it. She did so well at the

:53:35. > :53:39.Commonwealth Games in this arena, and now thriving again here. We

:53:40. > :53:45.heard Christine she had been injured twisting and element. Yes, she tried

:53:46. > :53:51.to change her routine, and had an injury, so she had to go back to her

:53:52. > :53:55.old routine. It is all about getting big scores, and it was amazing what

:53:56. > :54:01.she could pull out for the team. We are going to see all of the vaults.

:54:02. > :54:08.Amy Tinkler, power and energy into the vault. As we heard, it is the

:54:09. > :54:13.best double twist she has ever completed, and that was directly

:54:14. > :54:16.down the line. To stand at that end, and know that if you do your best

:54:17. > :54:20.double twist, it will be a bronze medal, that is a lot of pressure,

:54:21. > :54:28.especially when she is only turning 16 today. Exactly. Claudia

:54:29. > :54:32.Fragapane, again. The difference for her, she has been in this

:54:33. > :54:36.pressurised situation, but the British team had such a tough regime

:54:37. > :54:39.leading into this competition and now it is paying off. They were

:54:40. > :54:45.great in training, I saw them a couple of days and podium training,

:54:46. > :54:51.and they have looked so happy as a team, the coaches have kept them

:54:52. > :54:57.chilled out. And then, this, this is the bronze performance, really. It

:54:58. > :55:02.was this vault that sealed it. 14.717, I think. If you want someone

:55:03. > :55:07.to go up knowing you have got to score that, she is your

:55:08. > :55:11.to go up knowing you have got to is so strong and dynamic, and the

:55:12. > :55:13.height that she gets, she can see the landing, and you can see the

:55:14. > :55:20.smile on her face. That says everything. We have these young

:55:21. > :55:24.gymnastics, with Ellie and Amy, looking ahead to Rio, they have

:55:25. > :55:32.already booked themselves a ticket. What can they do? Who knows? It is

:55:33. > :55:38.in their hands. If they can keep pushing on and working hard in the

:55:39. > :55:43.gym, they can do anything in Rio, they look like a bright young team.

:55:44. > :55:49.What will the plan B? They will have China in their sights. They will

:55:50. > :55:52.take a bit of downtime after these World Championships, knowing they

:55:53. > :55:55.have the qualification spot, and they will get their bodies

:55:56. > :55:59.recovered, and then it is heads down and they will be consolidating their

:56:00. > :56:03.routines. I cannot imagine there will be too many upgrades, they know

:56:04. > :56:07.the consistency, but there will be things they would change here and

:56:08. > :56:13.there. The team score is massive, and it is about who is cleaning,

:56:14. > :56:20.yes, we had one mistake, but Russia had four. What is going to be the

:56:21. > :56:27.key in catching America? It just seems impossible. I think, at the

:56:28. > :56:35.moment, they are on catchable, especially with Simone Biles, but

:56:36. > :56:39.looking forward, and if we can look towards the silver medal, that would

:56:40. > :56:43.be the next step. Your thoughts? They are in a league of their own,

:56:44. > :56:47.and the differences Simone Biles, it she is scoring so far ahead of any

:56:48. > :56:52.other gymnast and straightaway they have the advantage. But Great

:56:53. > :56:56.Britain, they can be pushing, and ten years ago we were not even

:56:57. > :57:02.considering a team final, and now in Glasgow we have made history by

:57:03. > :57:05.picking up the bronze medal. It is like thinking back to Craig in

:57:06. > :57:11.Sydney, at the Olympics, he was the only one. Yes, he was the only one

:57:12. > :57:14.for the man, but we have ever had the opportunity to even fight for a

:57:15. > :57:18.medal and we were so pleased to even be there. And now we

:57:19. > :57:21.medal and we were so pleased to even to the next level and we are always

:57:22. > :57:25.chasing the top four. It was a constant battle, Russia and us,

:57:26. > :57:28.chasing the top four. It was a China, they also had a great day. We

:57:29. > :57:30.have China, they also had a great day. We

:57:31. > :57:35.forward to tomorrow. The pressure China, they also had a great day. We

:57:36. > :57:38.now on the boys. Definitely, hopefully we can repeat what the

:57:39. > :57:41.girls have done today, and obviously we had a great qualification, so if

:57:42. > :57:44.we can do the same and keep we had a great qualification, so if

:57:45. > :57:50.heads clear, we can go and fight for a medal. Talking of quality, it has

:57:51. > :57:56.been very difficult, to get qualification for that team, you

:57:57. > :57:59.were in the running? Definitely. We have 12 - 15 boys fighting for the

:58:00. > :58:04.team at the moment, it is so hard to make the team, but the boys that

:58:05. > :58:07.have made it, it was the right choice, they have shown it in

:58:08. > :58:13.qualification, getting that spot for Rio and I hope they can push on in

:58:14. > :58:18.the team final. We cannot show you the medal ceremony and BBC Two, but

:58:19. > :58:28.we will have more chat and reaction on the internet connected TV.

:58:29. > :58:33.Samaraweera bring your highlights of the first hour of competition of the

:58:34. > :58:36.men's team final -- tomorrow we will bring you highlights. And then we

:58:37. > :58:41.will be live for the rest of the evening. What an evening we have

:58:42. > :59:00.had, well done to the British women, they have made history.

:59:01. > :59:06.COMMENTATOR: That is a bronze medal for Great Britain! Unbelievable.
