:01:21. > :01:36.This is the man people have come to see. That is phenomenal. That was
:01:37. > :01:45.unbelievable. A real mark of a man in control. He is the one they all
:01:46. > :01:51.want to beat. That was incredible. Absolutely unbelievable! Fantastic
:01:52. > :01:59.way to win a gold medal, everyone on their feet. For the fifth time,
:02:00. > :02:06.world champion. The superstar gymnast the world will never forget.
:02:07. > :02:10.Six in a row, my word, what a night it could be. Joining me to witness
:02:11. > :02:14.this potential greatness is Great Britain's first and only world
:02:15. > :02:17.champion, Beth Twaddle, and current British gymnast and world all-round
:02:18. > :02:26.silver-medallist, Dan Keating 's, welcome. We have to start by talking
:02:27. > :02:28.about Kohei Uchimura. The length of time this man has been at the top of
:02:29. > :02:35.all-round gymnastics... That's impressive thing. He was amazing to
:02:36. > :02:38.do a whole period in the last cycle where he won everything and now he's
:02:39. > :02:43.going for another one, which is unbelievable, unheard of. To last in
:02:44. > :02:47.the all-round for that long, I can't grasp how he's managed to do that
:02:48. > :02:51.and stay at that level. That is the key for the competition this
:02:52. > :02:54.evening, it's not specialising on one piece, it's being the all-round
:02:55. > :02:59.gymnast. It's having the mental strength to do one piece, then there
:03:00. > :03:05.is a break before the next one. It's how you control your nerves, steady
:03:06. > :03:07.yourself, do you let yourself relax completely or comeback? Every
:03:08. > :03:13.gymnast on that floor will do it in a different way. Somebody who knows
:03:14. > :03:18.how to do it is you, Dan, in 2009, we can see from this table, you got
:03:19. > :03:23.silver just behind Kohei Uchimura and since then, Richie Myler has
:03:24. > :03:34.been at the top of his game. Max Whitlock as well. -- Uchimura. If
:03:35. > :03:38.you can get a decent score across all six pieces of apparatus you are
:03:39. > :03:43.in with a shout, if you can hit those routines over six pieces, you
:03:44. > :03:45.will be up there. We'll be watching the top 24 gymnasts from a
:03:46. > :03:50.qualification competition that happened at the start of the week.
:03:51. > :03:57.We have two British gymnast Sear, Dan Purvis and Max Whitlock, who you
:03:58. > :04:00.saw takings over last year. -- two British gymnasts here. If he can
:04:01. > :04:08.score over 90 he'll be difficult to beat, including from Uchimura. David
:04:09. > :04:09.McDaid caught up with Max Whitlock in the run-up to this World
:04:10. > :04:19.Championships. At the beginning of the year, not
:04:20. > :04:23.using an excuse, I had glandular fever. The first stage was the
:04:24. > :04:26.toughest, I didn't know why I was struggling with my routines, it
:04:27. > :04:31.didn't go to plan but I took the positives out of it, rested up and
:04:32. > :04:36.it made me itching to get back in the gym. I feel good now, I feel all
:04:37. > :04:40.right, the competitions I've done now I feel happy with my, my
:04:41. > :04:46.personal best. In the London open. It gives me a lot of confidence.
:04:47. > :04:51.Tell us about the personal best. My first competition back, wanted to do
:04:52. > :04:56.a good job. I got 91.6 all-round. My target for this year is aiming
:04:57. > :05:03.around the 91 mark. I've done some good routines. Hopefully I can prove
:05:04. > :05:06.myself at this year's worlds as well. At the end of the day I'm
:05:07. > :05:09.looking forward to the experience, going back to the same arena,
:05:10. > :05:17.competing in Glasgow, it'll be amazing. It's some competition. The
:05:18. > :05:20.all-round is so open, 10-15 gymnasts all up there, it's whoever does the
:05:21. > :05:27.job on the day. Everyone is so close. Three races up for grabs. Who
:05:28. > :05:32.will you have to better to get a medal? You've got that man,
:05:33. > :05:37.Uchimura. Kohei Uchimura has been my idol for many years, he inspires and
:05:38. > :05:42.motivates me. He is the best gymnast in the world, pretty much, he has
:05:43. > :05:51.bagged his fifth world title in a row. This year he will go for his
:05:52. > :05:56.sixth. He's brilliant, really. What a performance, Max Whitlock, silver
:05:57. > :06:04.medal. You've got silver before, last year, can you be in and around
:06:05. > :06:08.the podium? I hope so, I mean... I try to aim for that, try not to
:06:09. > :06:13.think about it too much, all I think about is my job. Hopefully I've got
:06:14. > :06:17.the potential to do it, if I get my target school, do clean routines,
:06:18. > :06:23.hopefully results will come. SPEAKS FRENCH. Get my target score. It's
:06:24. > :06:29.going to be a battle of who can keep their calm to night. Definitely, if
:06:30. > :06:33.they can keep calm, stay on those six uses of apparatus, he will be in
:06:34. > :06:37.with a shout of a medal. Let's look at some of the apparatus he did in
:06:38. > :06:47.the team final. His best piece of apparatus is the pommel horse, he
:06:48. > :06:50.will be nearly 16 Mark. This is his weakest event, he has managed to
:06:51. > :06:54.update a little bit this year. Hopefully he can come out with a
:06:55. > :07:03.decent score and keep the confidence going. This is the triple twist,
:07:04. > :07:08.he's had this about a year now. The bars are one of his most consistent
:07:09. > :07:12.pieces, he scores around 15, it'll set him up going into the high bar.
:07:13. > :07:17.On the floor, as we've seen in the team final, his solid and has a huge
:07:18. > :07:21.start. He will come out with a massive score, hopefully it'll
:07:22. > :07:26.finish off the competition nicely. His qualification didn't go 100% to
:07:27. > :07:33.plan, but he's ended up in a group where his order works really well.
:07:34. > :07:38.He starts on pommel, the PC is renowned for, it could settle his
:07:39. > :07:40.nerves. If he gets a great start you'll be feeling confident. He
:07:41. > :07:44.could end on the floor, it's what they did in the team final, he knows
:07:45. > :07:51.he can handle the pressure if he's got a score. He will have rings as
:07:52. > :07:55.his second piece, so he still has plenty of strength. Looking back to
:07:56. > :07:59.2009, have a look at you. This leads you on the floor, what do you
:08:00. > :08:03.remember? This was in London. I remember being really nervous, this
:08:04. > :08:08.was my first piece, I stepped out of bounds twice, but I got a huge score
:08:09. > :08:13.on pommel horse, around 15.6, 15.7 and I made up for the qualification
:08:14. > :08:18.mistake when I fell on my dismount. We have to talk about your
:08:19. > :08:21.team-mate, Dan Purvis, as well, who has qualified for this all-round
:08:22. > :08:26.competition in third. He won the bronze medal at the repeating
:08:27. > :08:31.Championships. He is a rock of the British team and tonight he has a
:08:32. > :08:36.real chance to make an individual mark at these World Championships.
:08:37. > :08:39.David McDaid had a word with him. The World Championship is normally
:08:40. > :08:43.pretty good, I've been outside the medal is a few times, but it's great
:08:44. > :08:51.to go and get in the finals at the World Championships, feel confident
:08:52. > :08:54.in my routines. He finished third in qualifying in the all-round, it must
:08:55. > :08:58.give you great belief going into the final? It does, yeah, I've done
:08:59. > :09:04.quite a lot of all-round events in my career, I've managed European
:09:05. > :09:09.all-round medals, but never a world medal, it's always been an aim of
:09:10. > :09:12.mine. Who knows if it's possible or not, but to qualify in third is
:09:13. > :09:16.already a great achievement for myself and I want to hit my routines
:09:17. > :09:21.as well as I can. We'll see what happens. I'd love to get in that
:09:22. > :09:26.medal position. Max Whitlock is second in the world, incredible for
:09:27. > :09:32.former. It would be amazing to go round with him. I want to enjoy
:09:33. > :09:36.every minute. You are so reliable, it must be really difficult to
:09:37. > :09:42.maintain consistency over six apparatus. It is, to be honest, I
:09:43. > :09:48.have up and downs in training. A lot of times it doesn't go well. It's
:09:49. > :09:52.the same with every athlete. Fortunately, I have been able to
:09:53. > :09:59.pull it out. I'm not sure why that is. I'm so happy to be able to do
:10:00. > :10:03.that. Dan has qualified. In that top eight of gymnast qualifying with the
:10:04. > :10:07.third highest place, how will it affect his competition? Being with
:10:08. > :10:11.the big guns, and Max Whitlock being in a different group? Dan has enough
:10:12. > :10:15.experience not to worry about being in the same group as Max, he'll get
:10:16. > :10:19.on with his job he's got his personal coach on the floor. Dan is
:10:20. > :10:23.a gymnast to compete in his own world. To be honest I don't think it
:10:24. > :10:29.would really affect him who he was going round with. Let's look at some
:10:30. > :10:42.of the other contenders. Let's talk about the current European champion,
:10:43. > :10:46.you even I have. -- Belly we'd seen him make small, characteristic
:10:47. > :10:57.errors. We'll have to see how he starts tonight. Deng Shudi MIDI
:10:58. > :11:01.Chinese gymnast, so close yesterday. He will try to go out there and pick
:11:02. > :11:05.up a medal today to get them on the medal board for China. In the
:11:06. > :11:11.all-round. He has massive start scores were one of the biggest in
:11:12. > :11:19.the com petition. If he hits 646, he'll be up there. A gymnast from
:11:20. > :11:24.Cuba who has created noise. It's his first major international, he crept
:11:25. > :11:29.under the scene, nobody knew what he was capable of. He finished well up
:11:30. > :11:33.the ranks in convocation. In the training gym everybody has been
:11:34. > :11:37.muttering, who is this? Where's he come from? He's about 19, 20. We
:11:38. > :11:41.know from previous conditions he's qualified for the test event for
:11:42. > :11:46.Rio, it could be good timing for him at 19 years old. Definitely, nobody
:11:47. > :11:49.has heard of him come he's come on the scene, hitting huge scores, if
:11:50. > :11:59.he goes clean he'll be nearly 90, 91 mark. He's a name to look out for. A
:12:00. > :12:01.final word on Uchimura, will he play it safe tonight Coady will we see
:12:02. > :12:08.the flower we are used to seeing? Bearing in mind he pegged off the
:12:09. > :12:12.high bar in the team final? He wouldn't be Uchimura if he didn't go
:12:13. > :12:17.for it, he would be doubting himself if he played safe, he will go for
:12:18. > :12:23.everything and try to get that sixth gold medal. What will we experience
:12:24. > :12:28.tonight, Beth? I hope we see that historic moment, he's such an idol
:12:29. > :12:31.for so many gymnast, even Max really looks up to Uchimura. To be on the
:12:32. > :12:35.podium with him will be massive again. We will stop talking and get
:12:36. > :12:39.straight down to the action. The competition has been going on for
:12:40. > :12:42.quite a while, this is where the gymnast started. Group one, the top
:12:43. > :12:47.eight qualifiers, started on the floor. Uchimura is there, Dan Purvis
:12:48. > :12:53.in that group. The second group, Max Whitlock on pommel horse. 15.7 in
:12:54. > :13:04.the team final, he'll be looking to get to 16. Third group on rings,
:13:05. > :13:05.keep an eye on Nikolai Kuksenkov. We'll head over to the commentary
:13:06. > :13:16.box. COMMENTATOR: Starting this men's
:13:17. > :13:17.all-round final here at the World Championships, Deng Shudi from
:13:18. > :13:35.China. One of the group of gymnast with
:13:36. > :13:41.huge difficulty. We saw that 3.5 twists, immediately punched into a
:13:42. > :13:49.straight somersault. Another super difficult for tourist, immediate
:13:50. > :13:55.2.5. -- difficult full twist. So aware of how much twisting he's
:13:56. > :13:58.doing. Legs out of the first tumble. Exactly the right time to punch the
:13:59. > :14:03.floor for the second. This is beautiful work as well. He shows a
:14:04. > :14:13.really good body lying in all his work. -- body-line. Very well
:14:14. > :14:23.controlled, his legs locked together in the twist. Big, full twisting
:14:24. > :14:31.double back. Shows his ability to do multiple rotations as well as
:14:32. > :14:37.twist. Gets the two second hold. He just needs this big tumble. To start
:14:38. > :14:42.him off really well. And he does, very good triple twist to finish.
:14:43. > :14:50.That was a measure of control. A super start. There was the 1.3
:14:51. > :14:57.twist, the one and three quarters somersault to roll out. 15.133, not
:14:58. > :15:08.bad at all for starters. Danell Leyva, a very talented
:15:09. > :15:17.all-round gymnast, what's he got in the locker? Ooh committee was a bit
:15:18. > :15:21.short, a very big, ambitious tumble. A double straight with two twists.
:15:22. > :15:32.His hands went down, that was a big deduction. Controls that second
:15:33. > :15:35.tumble well. Double Arabian. Having little starters on most of the
:15:36. > :15:43.landings, that is where the marks go. Little bit off the boil, I
:15:44. > :15:49.think. He was impressive in team final. You've got to show complete
:15:50. > :16:04.balance and mastery. The roll-out was good. Whip into...
:16:05. > :16:11.Very good. 2.5 bunch front, good combinations. -- punch front. He
:16:12. > :16:18.looks a little more settled now as he builds up to this final. It's
:16:19. > :16:25.going to be big. Double straight, much better finish than start. He
:16:26. > :16:31.recovered well. Unsettled, Danell Leyva, but he's got five more
:16:32. > :16:41.apparatus. You can see it was very expensive. Danell Leyva, 13.733. A
:16:42. > :16:44.little dent in his ambition. Now the person we've all been waiting to
:16:45. > :16:50.see, Max Whitlock from Great Britain. He has a marvellous routine
:16:51. > :17:01.in the locker, can he bring it out here? Good, solid start. Nice rhythm
:17:02. > :17:07.in different combinations. -- in the front combinations. The second of
:17:08. > :17:16.those nicely negotiated. Keep the rhythm, picks up beautifully.
:17:17. > :17:29.Spindle, no problem. He will come back. Into the triple Russian. A
:17:30. > :17:33.lovely combination. Dismount. He has to go through smoothly and he did. A
:17:34. > :17:45.fabulous start for Max Whitlock. Super start. Well done, Max just
:17:46. > :17:54.what everybody wanted. Simple rhythm in that dismount, clean handstand.
:17:55. > :18:01.Max Whitlock, 16.1. The stuff of dreams, great start.
:18:02. > :18:10.Daniel Purvis. On the floor. Double twist, double back, so beautifully
:18:11. > :18:25.performed. A little stutter before the jump,
:18:26. > :18:36.but it was well controlled tumbling. Really came out of that double front
:18:37. > :18:40.with such conviction. Lovely building of difficulty here. So
:18:41. > :18:47.important to have a difficult routine, but one that you can manage
:18:48. > :18:59.to control as well. Dan has really good lines, good extension through
:19:00. > :19:04.his work. Little bit of originality, stands up with his legs dead
:19:05. > :19:10.straight. He really nails this for the team in qualification. It's such
:19:11. > :19:13.a hard finish. Whip into double Arabian. He nails it again. What a
:19:14. > :19:42.fantastic start for Dan Purvis. Oleg NIF, European champion, comes
:19:43. > :19:56.to the floor. Very sharp, very quick. -- Verniaiev. Yes, nicely
:19:57. > :20:06.done, 3.5 twists into full twist, smooth. He makes it look so easy.
:20:07. > :20:29.Twisting combinations. They really build. But you have to hit them. And
:20:30. > :20:37.his foot is out. Undercut... He's just had one error so far.
:20:38. > :20:45.A light touch, linking to the corner.
:20:46. > :20:51.More twists, slightly lower out of that. And a triple twist to wrap it
:20:52. > :21:17.up. Tiny errors. He means business. 2.5 twists, but there you see his
:21:18. > :21:22.foot is out. 14.975 for Verniaiev. Kohei Uchimura, the defending world
:21:23. > :21:29.champion. This first apparatus is very important. What will he choose?
:21:30. > :21:37.He's got so much in stock. Lovely start. 3.5 into one and a half, how
:21:38. > :21:39.good is that? Full twist... I've lost count on the twist afterwards,
:21:40. > :21:54.but very impressive. This is so clean. And so efficient.
:21:55. > :22:06.A shrug of the shoulders. Under control, composure. Double double.
:22:07. > :22:15.Look at that extension. That is the triple Russian.
:22:16. > :22:28.Such consummate control. One and three quarters roll-out. Look at
:22:29. > :22:34.this for composure. Gathering through the flip. Nice triple twist
:22:35. > :22:43.to finish. Characteristic landing, just a little shuffle.
:22:44. > :22:57.Lovely tumble, he has so much to choose from. Double twist, another
:22:58. > :23:11.twisting skill backward. 15.733. What a start.
:23:12. > :23:18.Max Whitlock on top of the pile-up moment. Kohei Uchimura behind him
:23:19. > :23:56.and Donnell Whittenburg is in third. Not his strongest apparatus, you
:23:57. > :24:04.really needs to be accurate in all the strength parts. A good start.
:24:05. > :24:14.Making sure of the static positions. A safe start for Max Whitlock.
:24:15. > :24:20.Double front. He has to nail that position first time, you can't
:24:21. > :24:30.adjust it. He'll swing on, wait for it to come back, there it is. Double
:24:31. > :24:36.back through the rings. He nails the dismount. There were little problems
:24:37. > :24:47.in the hold parts. He'll be glad to get that one behind him.
:24:48. > :24:58.14.516, his hard apparatus out of the way for Max Whitlock. So, Daniel
:24:59. > :25:05.Purvis started with a good floor, what can he show us on,? -- show was
:25:06. > :25:11.on pommel horse was to mark ease into the swing, got the rhythm
:25:12. > :25:18.going. A nice combination here. Keeping the rhythm, this is good.
:25:19. > :25:23.Tiny flicker of the legs apart. This is going well. Triple Russian, picks
:25:24. > :25:37.up to travel. Tiny flutters of form, but safely
:25:38. > :25:47.through, he'll be delighted with that. A good, solid first apparatus
:25:48. > :25:53.for Dan Purvis. Travels back and forward along the horse. A difficult
:25:54. > :26:05.one to do first. There is the dismount. Safely through.
:26:06. > :26:24.Oleg Verniaiev of the Ukraine, he's had a really good year so far, he'd
:26:25. > :26:26.love to crown it with this title. This is the apparatus that brings
:26:27. > :26:33.him the biggest challenge, you must be consistent.
:26:34. > :26:46.First handstand out of the way, nice legs separation, second handstand
:26:47. > :26:52.short. There will be a deduction. He mustn't use strength. Rescuers the
:26:53. > :27:03.swing. Triple Russian between the handles. Good swinging.
:27:04. > :27:08.Quick through the Russian on one handle, it's good work now, but
:27:09. > :27:26.flutters at the start. Into the handstand shaped... He lost
:27:27. > :27:31.the rhythm. Come on! There will be no dismount and a big deduction.
:27:32. > :27:43.Once again, the pommel horse is his nemesis. Travelling... OK in some
:27:44. > :27:51.parts, but he did lose some rhythm. Here there will be no dismount
:27:52. > :28:03.granted. That is a deduction. Verniaiev, a very costly 13.566.
:28:04. > :28:15.Kohei Uchimura, a look of total concentration. Lovely and clean into
:28:16. > :28:22.the handstand. Not fully extended circles. They are very, very
:28:23. > :28:24.efficient, look at this. Beautiful rhythm with one hand. Very difficult
:28:25. > :28:37.to create. Into the Russian. Travelling up and
:28:38. > :28:44.travelling back. A stock combination these days. And he hops across the
:28:45. > :28:47.horse. I love the way he does that, great stuff will stop Uchimura still
:28:48. > :28:55.on song. Deng Shudi of China, all that time
:28:56. > :29:23.ago we watched his floor routine. Took a long time to focus. Again,
:29:24. > :29:30.lovely extended shape in the swing. Lovely giant travel across the
:29:31. > :29:34.length of the horse. Bumped into it, that will be three tenths. And
:29:35. > :29:38.hesitation. A couple of faults following each other and one for
:29:39. > :29:44.that. Because there was a hesitation. Listen to that bump as
:29:45. > :29:57.he makes sure of his hand position. Nicely through the travels. This
:29:58. > :29:59.will be the transition into the dismount, he holds the handstand
:30:00. > :30:19.shaped, good and efficient. Might shape, this was particularly
:30:20. > :30:25.tidied away he finished the routine. Less flourish, good handstand. He
:30:26. > :30:42.scores 14.4 for pommel horse. Nikolai Kuksenkov of Russia to the
:30:43. > :30:45.vault. Good stride pattern. The ground off. 2.5 twists, very well
:30:46. > :31:06.controlled. Really stylish, well taught gymnast.
:31:07. > :31:10.Blocks off the top, wraps in, he really didn't need the floor well,
:31:11. > :31:17.the four hit him and that is what caused the step. That's back
:31:18. > :32:09.Daniel Levy, nightmare of a start for him, 23rd position. -- Daniel
:32:10. > :32:20.in second place so far after two, Max Whitlock goes to vault. Max has
:32:21. > :32:24.a hugely difficult vault, needs all the power and all the height. The
:32:25. > :32:29.twists and a bit of a starter pack but he controlled it. -- bit of a
:32:30. > :32:40.starter back. Right round on the twists.
:32:41. > :32:45.He launches himself into the air, puts in defeat twists but just
:32:46. > :33:02.doesn't quite hold shape for lending.
:33:03. > :33:18.The judges are so keen on strength positions being held precisely and
:33:19. > :33:27.prolonged. Those two wearer. Lovely control in the circled cross. Good
:33:28. > :33:32.start for Daniel Purvis. Two doubles. Into the controlled. So
:33:33. > :33:48.very good. Times the deal perfectly, lovely.
:33:49. > :33:50.The wind-up. Double double and just a tiny shuffle, good solid rings
:33:51. > :34:00.from damp Purvis -- Daniel Purvis. Have a look at this talented
:34:01. > :34:20.Manrique Larduet. Had some problems on the vault in
:34:21. > :34:28.qualifying but he is hugely powerful. What a vault that was.
:34:29. > :34:37.Lodged in the air, 2.5 twists, fantastic vaulting.
:34:38. > :34:54.Difficulty score of six. Really impressive stuff. that is a very
:34:55. > :35:08.good score. Super vaulting. Uchimura comes to the rings, he has
:35:09. > :35:17.looked absolute perfection so far. What a gymnast he is. Beautiful,
:35:18. > :35:22.into the Maltese. Moves ahead to show control, circle
:35:23. > :35:49.mastery so far. So difficult. Double pike. There is your cross.
:35:50. > :35:57.Giant handstand. Here is the wind-up. Once again, the double
:35:58. > :36:28.double and landed on his feet. Power bars, one of the most improved
:36:29. > :36:33.apparatus in this Championships. -- parallel bars. That was lovely work.
:36:34. > :36:49.Immediate somersault. Difficult turn, up into the
:36:50. > :36:54.handstand. Lovely full turn on one arm while swimming and are
:36:55. > :37:00.beautifully high straddled front somersault. Control in the handstand
:37:01. > :37:07.and then dynamically into the next element. I think there was possibly
:37:08. > :37:13.an error, I expect he intended on to go onto one rail but he has covered
:37:14. > :37:15.well and up into the double front with a half turn, very difficult
:37:16. > :37:41.this month. -- dismount. Really experienced rings worker.
:37:42. > :38:00.Very powerful gymnast. Making absolutely sure he is in the
:38:01. > :38:19.right position. Kick into the cross. Nicely into the
:38:20. > :38:29.Maltese. Good strong combination to the gym. Upright into Maltese. You
:38:30. > :38:35.can use the same moves as long as the way in various. -- varies. To
:38:36. > :38:54.the cross. Beautifully done. Upright into the straddle. The first
:38:55. > :38:58.position you hit. Little bit of adjustment in the giant. Lovely.
:38:59. > :39:16.Double rotation through the rings. As is the enhanced and, sets up four
:39:17. > :39:19.double, double straight, good dismount, good routine from Deng
:39:20. > :39:49.Shudi. His swing is quite remarkable. It is
:39:50. > :39:59.almost a different type of parallel bar work. Just easy swinging.
:40:00. > :40:07.Good control on the one rail. Very difficult the handstand with the
:40:08. > :40:15.hands parallel, lovely tight double tap at somersault. And look at the
:40:16. > :40:21.height on the front somersault. No problem with seeing the landing.
:40:22. > :40:31.Somersault with a half turn to turn yourself around. And another. That
:40:32. > :40:37.time from the long swing. Comes up a big front and a half turn, really
:40:38. > :40:44.good spatial awareness, that was a great routine.
:40:45. > :41:19.The young Cuban, larger et in fourth place. Larduet.
:41:20. > :41:28.Oleh Vernyayev, back in ninth at the moment.
:41:29. > :41:37.Such a slight, light gymnast but hugely powerful as well. Big double
:41:38. > :41:40.front with half-time, what a fantastic vault for such a slight
:41:41. > :41:56.day. That was very, very good indeed.
:41:57. > :42:00.Pumps up into the air, 2.5 somersaults, turns the last half so
:42:01. > :42:12.he can see the landing. Scored out of six. He pulls the knees apart,
:42:13. > :42:17.gets in really tight. That will be a bit of a deduction from the judges,
:42:18. > :42:47.as will that step back. Not much else to take off. Turn eight
:42:48. > :42:53.Uchimura, took an age to focus. We will see why in a few seconds.
:42:54. > :42:57.Half-time, 2.5 twists, beautiful work. Super vault. He is quite
:42:58. > :43:04.pleased with that. Look at this. Half turn. And hangs
:43:05. > :43:26.it round. Well on his way. STUDIO: Uchimura is on form, seeing
:43:27. > :43:34.all of the calmness that we predicted and this competition so
:43:35. > :43:45.far as going textbook. There is his scorer. Bizarrely, it is exactly
:43:46. > :43:51.what he golden qualification. Bath what he scored.
:43:52. > :43:59.What a competition this lad is having, Whittenburg, he fell on the
:44:00. > :44:03.vault but still out there in medal contention and he qualified in 30
:44:04. > :44:05.First Place, he didn't expect to be in the final, he is having the
:44:06. > :44:27.competition of his life,. COMMENTATOR: Was second going into
:44:28. > :44:36.this round. Big wind-up. Caught late but he caught safely. Full turn over
:44:37. > :44:47.the top. Little bit late. The judges will be sharp on this. But he's
:44:48. > :44:57.going through. Squat fall. That might be expensive. OK. He is in
:44:58. > :45:09.control of this apparatus. Just enough. Again, late. He will pay for
:45:10. > :45:15.this. Here is the wind-up, he must stick it. Double double and he
:45:16. > :46:11.needed that. There were errors in the routine. Clear deductions.
:46:12. > :46:24.Larduet. Performing beautifully in these championships. As to hold his
:46:25. > :46:41.concentration. Very good work. He looks really in
:46:42. > :46:48.command. Smooth and swings the tap out up to the handstand, lovely half
:46:49. > :46:55.turn. Double front half turn, fabulous work. Really, the questions
:46:56. > :46:57.have been whether he can hold his concentration but he has done so
:46:58. > :47:02.far. It is turning out to be a bit of a
:47:03. > :47:31.surprise, look at that score. That is his weakest apparatus.
:47:32. > :47:36.Matching what happened to him and qualification.
:47:37. > :48:00.He is going over the top. Very nice. In the straight body. That was when
:48:01. > :48:08.people turn. -- with the full turn. Nicely done.
:48:09. > :48:18.Half-time but he must get it cleanly. Back on song in thrall. --
:48:19. > :48:34.in control. Mostly through the full turn. Big
:48:35. > :48:43.wind-up. Good dismount and he has a decent score. That is a good
:48:44. > :48:45.routine. He was in fifth going into this piece of apparatus, going for
:48:46. > :49:02.everything. He was brave. Couple of good
:49:03. > :49:16.releases in the main group. Puts him up to third.
:49:17. > :49:27.Larduet will be in the parallel bars final and with scores like that that
:49:28. > :49:42.is no surprise. Moving up the field rapidly.
:49:43. > :49:50.Belyavskiy intense at the moment. -- in 10th place. Little waiver, but
:49:51. > :50:05.brought it under control. Tiny bit bent legs on the straddle
:50:06. > :50:09.position. Lots of height and fight but you have to keep your likes
:50:10. > :50:17.tight as well and little flicker of bent knees on the somersault there.
:50:18. > :50:25.All tiny things that the judges deduct. That was better. Smoothly
:50:26. > :50:31.lifted into handstand. Legs locked together nicely. Settles well.
:50:32. > :50:38.Double front, half turn, quite a favoured dismount for many of the
:50:39. > :50:43.gymnasts. His execution scorer will be very high, I'm sure. He got a
:50:44. > :50:48.silver at the Europeans on parallel bars last year. Glad to see things
:50:49. > :50:52.are going his way at this stage of the competition, he has not had much
:50:53. > :50:54.fun on the previous pieces of apparatus. Very talented, very
:50:55. > :51:13.clean. Nicely done, spends his way round,
:51:14. > :51:18.triple twist, credit to him for that.
:51:19. > :51:25.It is quite a high-scoring piece of apparatus. We can see the gymnasts
:51:26. > :51:28.in the top group, a lot of them have fallen away but the others will
:51:29. > :51:35.really build their score. They will do. They have a little more luck
:51:36. > :51:39.with being consistent on the twisting vaults. He took the half
:51:40. > :51:42.turn on and went in for the triple twist, there will be a deduction for
:51:43. > :51:48.not being dead on the red line down the middle.
:51:49. > :52:03.Great Britain's Daniel Purvis. Place.
:52:04. > :52:14.As to nail this. Very good in the control area. Lovely 2.5. Just a
:52:15. > :52:22.little pace forward, that was very good vaulting. That will do, he will
:52:23. > :52:28.certainly take that on vault. He has had a good steady, solid
:52:29. > :52:34.competition. Consistent all the way through. You can see the flip on, he
:52:35. > :52:41.is technically very good. Straight arms. East twists in and by the time
:52:42. > :52:43.he joins his feet, he is on food either side of the red line, very
:52:44. > :53:07.good work. -- on -- one foot. On his way back up. As will be this
:53:08. > :53:14.man. Belyavskiy. Him into ninth. Edging ever closer.
:53:15. > :53:27.Pablo Bragger from Switzerland. Scores 15.133, interesting start.
:53:28. > :53:37.Difficult to work with straight arms, the judges look for the over
:53:38. > :53:56.grip. Nice and smooth. That is the full spin. Somersaults. Nicely done.
:53:57. > :54:14.Solid handstand, and another one. This time with an extra turn. That
:54:15. > :54:15.was a nice, smooth parallel bars. Everything you want to see from
:54:16. > :54:20.parallel bars. We are seeing some very good
:54:21. > :54:40.dismounts. What do you put that down to? It
:54:41. > :54:51.used to be a weakness for the Brits, the Dutch, it is focused on a lot.
:54:52. > :54:58.Talking of the Dutch. What is the inside track on him? He has some big
:54:59. > :55:03.releases, if he gets this he will be through. He did.
:55:04. > :55:18.One more big release to come. He has survived putting the full turn in.
:55:19. > :55:25.Good work. Full turn. Full stops swinging well. Just keep your
:55:26. > :55:33.rhythm, young man. He can nail this if he needs to. And he does. Almost.
:55:34. > :55:40.Well done, Berks, you have one happy coach sat next to me. -- barked
:55:41. > :56:00.barked Bart Deurloo. Shame about that adjustment, but
:56:01. > :56:07.well done. No appeal? I'm happy with that!
:56:08. > :56:27.Arthur Mariano from Brazil. What the competition is the Brazilians had in
:56:28. > :56:39.qualifying. Bowled him. They were delighted and one of the
:56:40. > :56:51.surprise teams. Very clean, good work, one of the reasons why. Good
:56:52. > :56:56.rhythm. Straight legs. Smooth. Just a little bit on the way up to
:56:57. > :57:03.handstand but covered very well. That was really nice. Peaked at the
:57:04. > :57:10.top of the move. The move finished at its maximum. Another handstand
:57:11. > :57:22.with lovely control and immediately double pike and that was one of the
:57:23. > :57:27.best this -- dismounts we have seen. Absolutely. They are determined on
:57:28. > :57:33.their home territory. They have the people to do it. They have lost a
:57:34. > :57:38.couple of their key players, their best gymnast got injured in Glasgow
:57:39. > :57:49.at the end of last year and they are still coming back strong. Lovely.
:57:50. > :58:01.Good parallel bar work. I like this dismount so much because he finished
:58:02. > :58:05.with his chest right up, he didn't finish once the seat landed, he
:58:06. > :58:16.continued the rotation. Very good work. Once the feet landed. Parallel
:58:17. > :58:27.bars was a challenge and everybody had to meet it. So much potential in
:58:28. > :58:28.that apparatus. Whittenburg Currently in the silver medal
:58:29. > :58:39.position spot. At the moment he has dropped down to
:58:40. > :58:43.fifth. He put in an enquiry which would have been to do with the
:58:44. > :58:50.difficulty of his routine but it has been rejected. It can only be to do
:58:51. > :58:57.with the difficulty, of course. It is his weakest apparatus. You are
:58:58. > :59:01.only allowed to make an enquiry against the difficulty score. You
:59:02. > :59:06.cannot make an enquiry against the execution. And sometimes the judges
:59:07. > :59:07.will have another look and decide they should have credited something
:59:08. > :59:22.more. As it stands, Uchimura head of the
:59:23. > :59:26.field. There is the Cuban gymnast, Larduet, mention them at the start
:59:27. > :59:32.of the programme and he is in second, Kuksenkov in third. Max
:59:33. > :59:40.Whitlock is still to go and is just chopping up the parallel bars. --
:59:41. > :59:46.chalking. Uchimura remaining so focused. He got that team title that
:59:47. > :59:51.he saw wanted and now it is time to focus on his individual effort. This
:59:52. > :00:00.man will be thinking very similar thoughts.
:00:01. > :00:15.15.783 behind Kohei Uchimura at this stage. What a competition Larduet is
:00:16. > :00:23.having, two more pieces of apparatus to go. Kuksenkov was there or
:00:24. > :00:34.thereabouts, could this be his year for the world all-round medal?
:00:35. > :00:41.LAUGHTER Super. We're just waiting for a
:00:42. > :00:49.score to come in at the moment. Because of that, Max is having to
:00:50. > :00:53.wait, he's keeping calm, chalking up the parallel bars, making sure
:00:54. > :00:58.everything is right. You don't want to wait too long. Absolutely,
:00:59. > :01:03.there's always that extra bit you can put on the bars, that extra bit
:01:04. > :01:09.of chalk. But there's only so much you can do to occupy this time,
:01:10. > :01:12.difficult time to wait. You will notice that Max has a bag of his own
:01:13. > :01:17.chalk which he brings from his own gym. He is very precise with
:01:18. > :01:30.everything, Max. Everything has got its place. Mariano's score is about
:01:31. > :01:35.to be posted. There it is, 14.8. Very good score for parallel bars.
:01:36. > :01:39.It releases the parallel bars for Max Whitlock. There he is with his
:01:40. > :01:46.fourth piece of apparatus in this men's all-round world final. Very
:01:47. > :01:54.accurate, nice double, knees pressed together. Secure in the handstand,
:01:55. > :02:01.set up the double to keep the swing. Smith.
:02:02. > :02:14.Good, safe combination. Not adjusting his hands, first-time
:02:15. > :02:19.accurate, this is good. Upright, a big salto, keeping that rhythm.
:02:20. > :02:33.That's the thing about this routine. There you go. Good style, good form.
:02:34. > :02:39.Just shaved the chalk on the top of that wood. Here he is with a nailed
:02:40. > :02:45.dismount, that's a fantastic effort, he will be close to that score. Well
:02:46. > :02:51.done, Max! He needs just over 15 to going to second. But he's doing a
:02:52. > :02:56.job for Great Britain at the moment. He certainly is gone he is greeted
:02:57. > :03:01.by his coach as he comes off the podium. He looks good, he looks
:03:02. > :03:05.relaxed, that was as good a routine I've seen for a long time from Max.
:03:06. > :03:11.Lovely rhythm all the way through, look at the style, the form, the kit
:03:12. > :03:16.out, good rhythm, good control. Classic parallel bar work. You look
:03:17. > :03:25.for smooth swing, held handstands and risky combinations. He produced
:03:26. > :03:30.something very, very special. And this dismount, well... Find his way
:03:31. > :03:40.around, look at the style on the legs there. Tucks his toes ready for
:03:41. > :03:46.the landing and nails it. Over 15.783 would be a golden score as it
:03:47. > :03:53.stands on the fourth piece. He's not going to be far away, you know. They
:03:54. > :04:00.are having a nice day. Come on! Good old Scott, does a great job. Even
:04:01. > :04:05.Dan Purvis is on his feet. Amazing. Because we were waiting for the
:04:06. > :04:11.gymnast's score coming in, everybody watching he gets 15.1. I thought it
:04:12. > :04:17.would be worth more than that, it was clean, it was difficult. He is
:04:18. > :04:21.composed, isn't it? He has the high bar and the floor to go, if you were
:04:22. > :04:27.watching the men's team final, goodness me, what a floor routine
:04:28. > :04:31.Max did. After four pieces Kohei Uchimura leads ahead of Max
:04:32. > :04:38.Whitlock. Manrique Larduet is currently in third position. Dan
:04:39. > :04:46.Purvis in seven. Still, and Albert and Berg, still in amongst it. --
:04:47. > :04:56.Donnell Whitten Berg. He's got to his first apparatus, the high bars.
:04:57. > :05:03.What a series he had before that. Danell Leyva, he is still way down
:05:04. > :05:08.the field in 22nd. Two more pieces to go in this men's all-round final.
:05:09. > :05:12.Let's have a word with Dan Keating 's and better travel in the
:05:13. > :05:17.commentary box. We've seen so many of the gymnast we talked about at
:05:18. > :05:23.the start of the programme, the lead runners, they've fallen away, Beth?
:05:24. > :05:25.They have, it shows how difficult gymnastics is nowadays, the
:05:26. > :05:31.difference between perfection and errors is so small. Unfortunately
:05:32. > :05:34.some of those top runners have fallen along the way maybe by going
:05:35. > :05:41.for that difficulty that has not paid after night. We'll look at Dan
:05:42. > :05:46.Purvis's vault now, talk us through this from your perspective. It's one
:05:47. > :05:49.of his more solid pieces and he's been doing this vault for a long
:05:50. > :05:53.time now, couldn't have asked for any more, got round to his feet,
:05:54. > :06:00.only a small want him to step he'll be happy. Happy with seven? -- small
:06:01. > :06:06.one tenth step. He's got parallel bars coming up, one of his strongest
:06:07. > :06:12.apparatus. Hopefully he can get 15.4 to pull him up the rankings. A word
:06:13. > :06:16.on the Cuban gymnast, Larduet. He's having the petition of his life.
:06:17. > :06:21.Before we came here everybody was talking about him, weren't sure how
:06:22. > :06:25.he would compete, he's proven a lot of doubters wrong and shown how good
:06:26. > :06:28.a gymnast years. How impressed are you with Max Whitlock at the moment
:06:29. > :06:34.from the psychological point of view? He had a tough piece because
:06:35. > :06:40.he had to wait for so long, still boarded up, he has a great
:06:41. > :06:44.relationship with his coach, Scott. He stayed out of the way of watching
:06:45. > :06:49.other people. Max doesn't focus on what anyone else is doing, he only
:06:50. > :06:53.concentrate on his job. Doing a fantastic job, each piece, he's
:06:54. > :06:58.taking it piece by piece. Can't ask any more of him, he has to keep his
:06:59. > :07:02.concentration for the last two pieces. At an interesting stage with
:07:03. > :07:06.the all-round competition, with deep and ultimate peace to come to finish
:07:07. > :07:10.on a high. We talked about Max Whitlock's floor, but how will he
:07:11. > :07:16.feel going into the high bar routine? Nervous, you'll be nervous
:07:17. > :07:21.before each piece of apparatus, but he's doing so well. He's more
:07:22. > :07:24.excited now to finish the competition, he is doing so well.
:07:25. > :07:29.With the floor coming last, he'll be pushing to get a good score to lead
:07:30. > :07:34.him into the floor. What are the key points to look at in this high bar
:07:35. > :07:40.routine? Key moments from Max to get through? Trying to hit handstands
:07:41. > :07:44.out of each of his turns and when he does the dismount he will be trying
:07:45. > :07:51.to stick it, basically, not giving any temps away. He is warming up,
:07:52. > :07:58.eyes and relaxed. -- not giving away any temps.
:07:59. > :08:05.You know what it feels like, Beth, to compete on the bars at this
:08:06. > :08:10.level. The key to it is to stay as relaxed as possible. It is, stay
:08:11. > :08:14.relaxed, remember what your coach tells you in training. After time
:08:15. > :08:19.you will find when these gymnast put their arm up to the judge, your body
:08:20. > :08:24.goes into autopilot, he'll have done that routine thousands of times.
:08:25. > :08:28.Hopefully it will pay off. It looks as though... We can see the five
:08:29. > :08:32.times world champion, looks as though he could be on the right road
:08:33. > :08:37.to get the sixth title. He could be, but we saw what happened in the
:08:38. > :08:41.team final, he was right on the last beat and had to go through clean,
:08:42. > :08:45.you can never speak to see it gymnastics, it's the beauty of the
:08:46. > :08:50.sport, it literally goes down to the last routine and whether you can
:08:51. > :08:54.stay on your feet. He is looking as cool as he would want to at the
:08:55. > :08:57.moment, Kohei Uchimura. With a 50 piece of apparatus, a reminder the
:08:58. > :09:02.top group are on the parallel bars, the second group on the high bar,
:09:03. > :09:09.the third on the floor and the fourth group on pommel horse.
:09:10. > :09:20.So, Larduet will be the first gymnast to go. The Cuban gymnast.
:09:21. > :09:25.Silver medal place at the moment. He came here to make his mark and a lot
:09:26. > :09:31.of people are watching. If he can get a medal here, he'll get himself
:09:32. > :09:36.a place at the Olympics. You have to go back to 1976, Roberto Richards,
:09:37. > :09:42.the last Cuban to really make an impression on the world scene. Here
:09:43. > :09:46.we have another. If he does that... It would be well worth it, he's an
:09:47. > :09:51.exciting young talent, 19 years of age. He put in a score over 15 in
:09:52. > :09:54.qualification, he's more than capable. We know he's got an
:09:55. > :10:02.unbelievable floor routine. So, this is to stay on track for a
:10:03. > :10:19.medal. Nice easy start, half turn over the
:10:20. > :10:24.top. First release, half turn in the street Tkatchev. Very smooth.
:10:25. > :10:32.Favouring the Tkatchev group for releases. All of them have been very
:10:33. > :10:41.accurate. For turn. A very popular combination. He's looking smooth and
:10:42. > :10:46.clean. He's got to complete that turn. The one arm swing is always so
:10:47. > :10:54.effective, but you can only do it once. Through the cross, the full
:10:55. > :11:01.turn. He set up the dismount. Superb, just a tiny Hop/ he really
:11:02. > :11:07.has put in one competition so far. One apparatus to go. With a landing
:11:08. > :11:11.like that and thoughts edge to the floor, this gymnast must be very
:11:12. > :11:16.excited at the moment. Very excited, very excited coach as well. It won't
:11:17. > :11:24.have escaped the notice of Kohei Uchimura that he is being chased
:11:25. > :11:29.along here. Two years ago, Kohei Uchimura won gold on the bars at the
:11:30. > :11:33.World Championships. He needs all his periods here. He'll call upon
:11:34. > :11:40.it. Look at that shape on one rail, superb. The full turn forwards.
:11:41. > :11:49.Again. Rock-solid in handstands. Half turn. He's hitting handstands
:11:50. > :11:58.every time. Keeping the swing smooth from the release is very important.
:11:59. > :12:05.Very good. Half turn, keeps his rhythm. Look at this, a multitude of
:12:06. > :12:12.doubles. Suarez, that time, from giant. Different name, different
:12:13. > :12:16.style. Look at how that handstand is set for the dismount. What a
:12:17. > :12:26.cracker! Beautiful performance, superb. Five down, want to go for
:12:27. > :12:33.Kohei Uchimura. Only one way to respond when did people snapping at
:12:34. > :12:36.your heels are doing well. A much more difficult routine than he
:12:37. > :12:41.normally performs comedy knows he's got a fight on his hands and it's
:12:42. > :12:46.bringing out the best him. Is got such difficulty, such a repertoire,
:12:47. > :12:54.he could select from it. To suit the occasion. Absolutely.
:12:55. > :12:58.Whittenburg, the powerhouse takes to the floor. Six going into this
:12:59. > :13:12.rotation. I love that first little hop into a
:13:13. > :13:19.1.5 twist, immediate punch double front. And then the double straight
:13:20. > :13:26.back with twist. Such difficult work. Immediate double pike. It's
:13:27. > :13:35.really breathtaking. The difficulty of this work. Anything the judges
:13:36. > :13:39.deduct will be the style, feat not fully stretched, the handstand just
:13:40. > :13:46.a little bit edgy, but in terms of dynamics, it's fabulous. Here we go,
:13:47. > :13:53.two and a half twist, front full, his feet lock onto the floor.
:13:54. > :14:05.Very nice and speedy in the one and a half twist and the one and three
:14:06. > :14:11.quarters. This has been fabulous. Big breath, it's something special,
:14:12. > :14:18.what have we got here? Half in, half out, in the pike position. Really, a
:14:19. > :14:21.great tumbling display. I simply cannot believe those landings, one
:14:22. > :14:26.after another after another. He's not doing easy stuff. Oh no,
:14:27. > :14:36.absolute mustard, that was, superhot routine. A chance to see Larduet
:14:37. > :14:46.dismount. Talking of good landings. Superb, 15.333. Great work, really,
:14:47. > :14:52.he's producing, isn't it? I tell you what, you know, Kohei Uchimura
:14:53. > :14:57.scored 15.4 in qualification, is got 15.833, he just widens the gap,
:14:58. > :15:01.giving him... He will need that little gap when it comes to the
:15:02. > :15:06.floor routine. I think he'll need the gap he finishes on the high bar.
:15:07. > :15:11.We saw him in edgy on the high by yesterday. Goodness me,
:15:12. > :15:21.absolutely... What a thought to revisit that is, Chris. Nikolai
:15:22. > :15:25.Kuksenkov takes to the floor. Great style, not immensely difficult, but
:15:26. > :15:31.you need precision. Even snapping heels together once he's made the
:15:32. > :15:44.landing. So far, finding an error on the second double pass. A nice kick
:15:45. > :15:45.out. Good, simple link. Got to go around three times to get the D
:15:46. > :15:54.value. Hold the handstand. He's in control
:15:55. > :16:21.of his routine. Checking where he is, waiting for
:16:22. > :16:33.the bell. A big Paul. The triple twist. Just a tiny adjustment. He
:16:34. > :16:37.came from low down, he is building. 14.666 for Kuksenkov. He was fourth
:16:38. > :16:41.going in, he stays there as it stands at the moment, one more piece
:16:42. > :16:47.for him. And look at that, 15.266, it seems harsh. I thought so, I
:16:48. > :16:51.thought it was immensely difficult and he was in control all the way.
:16:52. > :16:58.Those landings... Yeah, little bit harshly dealt with.
:16:59. > :17:08.Uchimura ahead of Larduet. Whittenburg third, Kuksenkov fourth.
:17:09. > :17:13.Max Whitlock is still to go on the high bar. He's deep and ultimate
:17:14. > :17:18.gymnast to go. -- he is deep and ultimate gymnast. -- the
:17:19. > :17:28.penultimate. is attention will turn to the high
:17:29. > :17:31.bar, no doubt he has been going through that move in the training
:17:32. > :17:37.gym the past few days. I'm sure he will have. He looks very steely
:17:38. > :17:41.determined, Uchimura. Sometimes the almost looks over casual, as though
:17:42. > :17:44.it's a bit of a game. It doesn't look like a game tonight, I think
:17:45. > :17:53.you would very much want to keep hold of this and the record.
:17:54. > :17:58.Deng Shudi is in fifth at the moment, thereof thereabouts, it's
:17:59. > :18:08.very, very close between third and seventh. China led the way in the
:18:09. > :18:13.development of the parallel bars, they were on their own for a long
:18:14. > :18:19.while, but now the gap has closed. A nice, clean double pike, another
:18:20. > :18:29.one. Two doubles. He's only four moves in. Lovely control. Almost
:18:30. > :18:36.lost it. It's the third like double. -- pike double.
:18:37. > :18:53.Just to mix it up. Tip out with release.
:18:54. > :19:04.This is nice work here. The Chinese reminding us they are pretty good on
:19:05. > :19:11.this apparatus. That is double proof, great dismount. Well, Deng
:19:12. > :19:15.Shudi scored over 15.5 in qualification, he's going to move up
:19:16. > :19:19.the field. Years, we saw this in the team final, when China came to
:19:20. > :19:25.parallel bars, they let up the table. SPEAKS FRENCH. Yes, we saw
:19:26. > :19:31.this. It is really their piece. -- yes, we saw this.
:19:32. > :19:42.Such a stylish, good gymnast, but we've already seen an error today.
:19:43. > :19:51.He needs to be really precise here. That was lovely, the scope of
:19:52. > :19:57.Tkatchev. Straddle with a turn, good swing out of it, he didn't falter at
:19:58. > :20:04.all. A nice pirouettes. Needs to be on quickly. There we are, full turn
:20:05. > :20:09.into the hop, over the bar. Those difficulties linked together give
:20:10. > :20:15.you the bonuses. It's been cleaned so far. And this, the swing that he
:20:16. > :20:22.does so beautifully. The only gymnast in this comp addition to be
:20:23. > :20:27.doing it. Up, relatively quiet dismount, full twist in the double
:20:28. > :20:33.straight. A good outing for him, a steady job. Nice to see him doing
:20:34. > :20:38.clean work, he's always been capable and hasn't had the best of
:20:39. > :20:47.competition is. Lovely, straight arms on all his swinging. And this
:20:48. > :20:53.beautiful pike. You can see the shoulders in a dislocated grasp.
:20:54. > :20:59.Very difficult. Lovely style, just one twist. When you think we've seen
:21:00. > :21:04.the young Cuban gymnast at three twist into the dismount. It's the
:21:05. > :21:09.classic Russian style, to do everything so beautifully and
:21:10. > :21:10.perfectly. 14.466. It may not be the most difficult, but it was
:21:11. > :21:27.impressive. 59.33. A huge score, he pops up into
:21:28. > :21:38.third. -- 15 .933. It's getting very exciting.
:21:39. > :21:46.He's got some good work, Deurloo. There's the double after the half
:21:47. > :21:50.twist. If he nails these landings, it's a difficult routine. Will he do
:21:51. > :21:57.a double twist out of this? He does. One and a half through to the
:21:58. > :22:04.double. Nice double pike, solid landing.
:22:05. > :22:17.Full twist. This has always been a problem, will he do three turns
:22:18. > :22:29.consumer today he did. He is focused and it's looking good. Held the
:22:30. > :22:39.handstand. He needs to kick this one out. Which he does nicely. One more
:22:40. > :22:44.double to come. The Arabian approach. He needs to nail it. It's
:22:45. > :22:50.a good one, just a slip to the side. That was a good Floor Exercise, I'm
:22:51. > :22:57.delighted for him. Really nice work, very stylish performance, controlled
:22:58. > :23:04.performance. I was very impressed. 15.2 for Bart Deurloo. Judges were
:23:05. > :23:11.impressed, too. The biggest score of the day for him. Well, if ever,
:23:12. > :23:13.there was a key routine in a gymnast's career, this would be it
:23:14. > :23:31.for Max Whitlock. Good luck, son. Currently in silver medal position.
:23:32. > :23:41.He needs 15.316 to maintain silver. And this start needs to be perfectly
:23:42. > :23:49.performed. Oh dear! He went for the full stretch. You have to really go
:23:50. > :23:55.for catching on straight arms. And he just was a little bit too far
:23:56. > :24:03.away. You have to go for broke. Dear, dear me. You can see he knew
:24:04. > :24:08.he wanted to be able to swing out of it. He got his hands over, but not
:24:09. > :24:15.the part of the hand guards that hangs onto the bar. There are big
:24:16. > :24:20.test for him now, he's got to control his disappointment and go
:24:21. > :24:28.through cleanly. He starts in the forward swing, good, dislocation. He
:24:29. > :24:37.doesn't link the two elements. He has settled a bit. Full pirouette.
:24:38. > :24:50.The one and a half. Cleanly on with the hand. Good. Into handstand with
:24:51. > :24:57.the half turn. The pirouette phase performed confidently. The hop with
:24:58. > :25:00.the full turn. Dismount. Two very good twists, lovely landing. But
:25:01. > :25:07.that was the element that let him down on day one as well. Max
:25:08. > :25:13.Whitlock waves to the appreciative crowd. An awful lot of guts and
:25:14. > :25:21.determination shown there. After his fall. Huge. And what an effort it's
:25:22. > :25:32.been all the way around. Just one moment. Dan Purvis. He says, come
:25:33. > :25:36.on, to himself. He's had his own private battles with this apparatus
:25:37. > :25:43.and in recent years conquered it. Let's see if he can go through as
:25:44. > :25:52.well as he can. Half turn in the under a semi of the peach.
:25:53. > :26:03.Peach am a tiny adjustment needed. Tiny hand adjustments. Solid and
:26:04. > :26:16.determined, this is. Come on. He's set it up nicely. And
:26:17. > :26:23.he's landed beautifully. Such a consistent man under pressure. Very
:26:24. > :26:32.impressive stuff. Well done, Dan. You could see the determination in
:26:33. > :26:35.his face. Dan is in that milling, really, of the gymnasts between
:26:36. > :26:44.fourth and seventh, it's very, very close. So stylish, such a good
:26:45. > :26:57.technician. His arms exactly where they should be. He's a lovely lad,
:26:58. > :27:01.he's a gentleman. 12.833 for Max. He's down in sixth. He probably
:27:02. > :27:05.didn't get credited with the element. They have to decide whether
:27:06. > :27:20.you get a momentary, he obviously didn't. -- get a momentary hang. The
:27:21. > :27:23.Swiss another team who had a mightily impressive championship.
:27:24. > :27:33.Winding up the full twisting double back somersault over the bar. The
:27:34. > :27:44.stoop Tkatchev with a half turn. Into handstand. And another
:27:45. > :27:53.Tkatchev. The one and a half terms. -- turns. He links the two difficult
:27:54. > :27:58.elements. The forward grip just fulfils that requirement. The hop
:27:59. > :28:02.full turn. He's built his difficulty, built his dismount, two
:28:03. > :28:09.twists, just a little hop. Very efficient work. 15.2. Matching his
:28:10. > :28:14.swinging elements on the parallel bars. Indeed, the Swiss have gone
:28:15. > :28:23.for style over difficulty and it has paid off this Championships.
:28:24. > :28:31.Tentative wait for Dan Purvis. 15.4. He's in fifth place. You can never
:28:32. > :28:35.write that guy off, terrific. Well, Dan really seems to have made the
:28:36. > :28:39.apparatus he had a problem on a couple of years ago his strength.
:28:40. > :28:43.The rings and the parallel bars have so improved. That is where champions
:28:44. > :28:49.come from, make your weakness for strength. Speaking of champions, the
:28:50. > :28:58.current world and European and now takes to the parallel bars. Oleg
:28:59. > :29:02.Verniaiev. Fabulous apparatus for him, he has been in the 16s
:29:03. > :29:10.regularly this year on the Grand Prix circuit. Look at that start,
:29:11. > :29:18.keen and crisp. Half term, tiny adjustment with the hands. Extended
:29:19. > :29:22.on one rail. First adjustment he has needed with his hands. This is
:29:23. > :29:40.lovely work, I tell you. Clean. And he's lost the shape. Such
:29:41. > :29:57.a pity. Brings it back under control. Look at that. Well, lovely
:29:58. > :30:01.routine. He's still going to get a good score. One little flicker.
:30:02. > :30:05.He'll have another go because he's in the parallel bars final. I guess
:30:06. > :30:10.he would say having already mucked things up, if I had to do a poor
:30:11. > :30:14.routine, better today than in the final. This is the thing, at every
:30:15. > :30:18.opportunity to feel the equipment. Especially something like parallel
:30:19. > :30:23.bars, they have a lot of bounce now. Controlled it beautifully. On one of
:30:24. > :30:30.the most simple elements, forward over grasp pirouette, he loses his
:30:31. > :30:34.body shape. You never can tell. Just lacking concentration, do you think,
:30:35. > :30:39.on something relatively easy? He thought he was home and dry. He was
:30:40. > :30:43.quite near the end of the bars, he's perfected the length of the flight,
:30:44. > :30:44.the way he can... In the half term, edging closer and closer. Anyway,
:30:45. > :31:05.wasn't to be. I like this guy, I think he is going
:31:06. > :31:13.to be one of the exciting new stars of gymnastics. Lots of energy on the
:31:14. > :31:18.high bar. Good pirouette, got his hand on nice and early. Again, 1.5
:31:19. > :31:29.turns. Straight into the two difficult
:31:30. > :31:40.elements. Plenty of swing, no hesitation. Correcting himself as he
:31:41. > :31:47.is working. Kicks it up high, two twist is, very explosive. He looks
:31:48. > :31:53.like he is enjoying himself. That will keep him in the top ten. He was
:31:54. > :31:59.ninth going into the rotation. Lovely to see, it is exuberant. Just
:32:00. > :32:04.18 years old, the minimum you can be for this competition. He is
:32:05. > :32:13.certainly enjoying being here. To make the top 20, you are only
:32:14. > :32:22.allowed two gymnasts per country, so he is in good company with Uchimura.
:32:23. > :32:29.Kept Tanaka out as well. That is something he can tell his
:32:30. > :32:37.grandchildren. He is exciting and he is excited himself. Useful pair of
:32:38. > :32:49.joint and exuberance. -- useful air of Joy and exuberance.
:32:50. > :32:56.16 for the parallel bars. With a wobble. Looks like he will retain
:32:57. > :33:37.his parallel bars world title. now we will have a chat with Beth
:33:38. > :33:43.and an oil gymnasts are warming up for their final piece of apparatus.
:33:44. > :33:54.Awful moment to go back to, the high bar routine. Bit too much
:33:55. > :34:01.adrenaline, his kick was just a little bit too high, so pushed him
:34:02. > :34:07.over the bar and he was an inch off of catching it and unfortunately he
:34:08. > :34:12.missed it. Was going so well for him, the courage and determination
:34:13. > :34:16.to get back up and keep going. He did well to get back up and finish
:34:17. > :34:19.his routine because he would have been sold disappointed to have that
:34:20. > :34:23.fall but the competition is not over yet, anything can happen, so
:34:24. > :34:31.hopefully he can have a positive frame of mind and go to the floor
:34:32. > :34:37.and have a good routine. He put in a great parallel bars routine with
:34:38. > :34:41.Daniel Purvis. He would have seen him falling because he was waiting
:34:42. > :34:45.for his turn, so it might have helped him and he has to do it for
:34:46. > :34:47.Macs as well, he might think, steady routine and has got a high bar left
:34:48. > :34:55.now. Uchimura with one piece to go. We
:34:56. > :34:59.have seen Max fall on the high bar and Uchimura fell on the high bar in
:35:00. > :35:05.the team final but watching him on parallel bars and he looks so cool.
:35:06. > :35:09.He looks unstoppable and seen Max have that fall, she will have a sigh
:35:10. > :35:13.of relief because Max was right on his tail and he knew he had to have
:35:14. > :35:19.a clean high bar but now he knows that, he can afford a mistake and
:35:20. > :35:22.will feel more relaxed. This is the classic kind of Olympic competition,
:35:23. > :35:28.the Olympic rotation for you do finish on high bar and it really is
:35:29. > :35:35.the blue band event and wraps up the competition in style. It is, he had
:35:36. > :35:39.the problem in the team. Talking about the mixed rotation, Uchimura
:35:40. > :35:42.looks so much more calm, for the team he was desperate to pick up the
:35:43. > :35:47.gold medal because he never had it but he already has five world
:35:48. > :35:50.all-round titles in his bag, so just seems much more chilled out and
:35:51. > :35:55.hopefully he can finish this competition with a great high bar
:35:56. > :35:59.and seal the title. The Cuban is definitely chasing him.
:36:00. > :36:10.COMMENTATOR: We will now join Whittenburg on the pommel horse. Has
:36:11. > :36:11.had a great competition. He is currently in fifth position. Good
:36:12. > :36:27.luck on pommel horse. He is not the right shape for pommel
:36:28. > :36:31.horse. He is going well. Little bit heavy.
:36:32. > :36:39.My goodness, he does not want to part company with it. He has spiked
:36:40. > :36:45.but he is going through. Forwards and backwards. He will get technical
:36:46. > :36:54.deductions but he will not come off until he needs to. Good dismount,
:36:55. > :36:57.well done. That is it, has competition is over, all six pieces
:36:58. > :37:05.of apparatus and he certainly didn't let himself down. He didn't and he
:37:06. > :37:06.did actually have a fall on the vault, so this is pretty impressive
:37:07. > :37:15.scoring for tonight. That shape is not the classic pommel
:37:16. > :37:25.horse ship, has to be extended from the shoulders, little bit piked.
:37:26. > :37:31.They can deduct for every circle you are doing in that shape.
:37:32. > :37:50.Nicely settles into the strength element. French gymnasts always very
:37:51. > :37:58.stylish, good extension through the hips.
:37:59. > :38:09.Not quite fully down, the shoulders didn't stop in the film straight
:38:10. > :38:15.line. The swinging is lovely. It's to lock out in this handstand. Just
:38:16. > :38:20.travelled through the handstand, has another go at it. Manages to block
:38:21. > :38:23.it out, into the dismount. That was a shame. He just snatched at the
:38:24. > :38:34.dismount. He was a little bit unsettled. And
:38:35. > :38:42.then really didn't let himself use all of his swing.
:38:43. > :38:58.The third group, the second group are over on the floor on the fourth

:39:10. > :39:16.Deng Shudi just waiting for the judges as his team-mate went a
:39:17. > :39:38.little bit earlier. Deng Shudi was in third. They have
:39:39. > :39:48.been very quiet, the Chinese. They are still there and they are
:39:49. > :39:52.working, working in the background. They have got big difficulties cause
:39:53. > :39:55.Andy have struggled to cope with the difficulty in some of the
:39:56. > :40:02.competitions but he seems much more settled today. He scored 14.7 in
:40:03. > :40:22.qualification. Now then. It will not be incredibly
:40:23. > :40:28.difficult, but it will be stylish. Mice have turn, keeps the swing. --
:40:29. > :40:42.nice half turn. it is not spectacular but it is
:40:43. > :41:03.precise. Watch the body shape change, here
:41:04. > :41:11.comes the dismount. Double double. Just piked down. That is a solid
:41:12. > :41:19.routine, that is a bid for a medal. He has been solid all the way round,
:41:20. > :41:28.really. Starting to look quite experienced, able to handle himself.
:41:29. > :41:34.Lovely, good basic swing. Adapted to the more difficult skill. That is
:41:35. > :41:57.very nice. Over to the floor. Mariano just
:41:58. > :42:05.chalking up. Brazil usually produce very good floor workers.
:42:06. > :42:20.Let's see what Arthur Mariano can do. Very nice and swing and double
:42:21. > :42:27.page to open with. Smooth and stylish in the roll-out.
:42:28. > :42:38.Lovely control in the handstand. Just brushes the feet on the floor
:42:39. > :42:48.as he sticks up to handstand again. Mace light work. Double twist front,
:42:49. > :42:55.it looked from this angle that he was very low. But he got his feet
:42:56. > :43:01.down well and followed it with another twisting series. And again.
:43:02. > :43:12.He is very aware of his landings, hours spent practising. Big run.
:43:13. > :43:19.Full twisting double back, very nice work. Didn't really give much away
:43:20. > :43:25.as well. On target for home games in Rio. They have really got their act
:43:26. > :43:29.together, the Brazilians, they gave us a warning a couple of World
:43:30. > :43:34.Championships and all but this is developing strength upon strength.
:43:35. > :43:44.The 1.5 into the 1.5. After maintain the height of the two tumbles. 2.5.
:43:45. > :43:54.Front fool. So difficult to differentiate all
:43:55. > :43:59.the different twists and they practised them so often.
:44:00. > :44:18.Will it be good enough for bronze? Incredible work. Danell Leyva, the
:44:19. > :44:23.crowd pleaser on high bar. Not having a great competition at all.
:44:24. > :44:32.Can he find a magic touch? This is his favourite apparatus. Trademark
:44:33. > :44:40.arms to the site, nicely done. He is at home here. Another big wind-up,
:44:41. > :44:49.another big release. As he found the magic touch at last? Little bit late
:44:50. > :44:56.there. Back into the swing. He lost the ship, what a shame. The big
:44:57. > :45:00.release is fine. Swinging out of the pirouette combination and just lost
:45:01. > :45:04.the tension in the body. He really has been off-colour all day. He is
:45:05. > :45:09.such an exciting gymnast, such a gritty competitor and yet from the
:45:10. > :45:17.first moment he just hasn't been At The Races. There is the turn, quite
:45:18. > :45:21.difficult. Normally his body is one of his strengths. He lost that
:45:22. > :45:29.they're on the way he came. He will carry on. He will continue the
:45:30. > :45:32.fireworks before the big finish. I like his high bar. Lots of touch and
:45:33. > :45:55.flavour. That's nice, back into it. There is the wind-up. Beautifully
:45:56. > :45:59.done. That's the mentality need at the top level to come back from a
:46:00. > :46:06.fall and still get the landing. What a dismount. The score is in. 15.
:46:07. > :46:13.Great all-round competition. Max Whitlock for Great Britain on
:46:14. > :46:26.the floor. How much has the fault affected him?
:46:27. > :46:34.Not at all on the first 2.5 twists. Beautifully done.
:46:35. > :46:52.The trademark coming up. Keeps the rhythm. Beautiful. What mental
:46:53. > :47:03.strength. To produce this so far. After the fall from the high bar.
:47:04. > :47:18.Twists his way through. Yet another immaculate pass. Come on. Nicely
:47:19. > :47:28.through. 1.5 twists. Contact with the shoulders. Triple twist. Nailed.
:47:29. > :47:38.That is the way to come back, that's why he is world class. What a finish
:47:39. > :47:45.for Max Whitlock. The Hydro erupts for their favourite gymnast. He
:47:46. > :47:53.showed his class there, never mind the disappointment.
:47:54. > :48:13.Max needs an enormous score to go ahead of Deng Shudi. 16.55.
:48:14. > :48:22.Daniel Purvis wraps up his six pieces of apparatus on the high bar.
:48:23. > :48:46.Confident, swings well, catches well. Lovely one arm work. Super
:48:47. > :48:58.dislocation into the hop over the bar. Keep it going. Another with a
:48:59. > :49:04.half turn. Smooth. He has become a really stylish gymnast. Up.
:49:05. > :49:09.Dismount. Two twists. He has given everything tonight. He has been
:49:10. > :49:19.absolutely fantastic. What a show from Daniel Purvis. Mr consistency.
:49:20. > :49:31.What an incredible performance from both of the British lads. Absolutely
:49:32. > :49:48.fantastic. I'm so impressed with both of them.
:49:49. > :49:59.Kazuma Kaya. Eighth highest qualifier. Nine is going into this
:50:00. > :50:05.piece of apparatus. He finishes on floor.
:50:06. > :50:35.Very precise on the landings. He has learnt the landing technique. Can he
:50:36. > :50:43.twist as well as he can somersault. Not difficult. Very precise.
:50:44. > :50:52.2.5 twists and filled twist, is nice work.
:50:53. > :51:05.Just the double twist to set up the final. This surely is a gymnast to
:51:06. > :51:12.watch in the future. Triple twist and is pretty impressive right now.
:51:13. > :51:18.Seemed to hang in the air as he wrapped it in and continued to
:51:19. > :51:24.twist. You see the rest of the team watching on. He is an exciting
:51:25. > :51:29.gymnast. Totally focused at the start. Daniel Purvis is in third at
:51:30. > :52:03.the moment. When I have, never write him off.
:52:04. > :52:23.Eibar is one of his best pieces. He really is a fabulous gymnast. He
:52:24. > :52:28.pressurises himself quite a lot. Have turn, lovely into the straddle.
:52:29. > :52:34.He has got such rhythm, nothing looks like a struggle. That is mark
:52:35. > :52:40.of his gymnastics, made a bit of an error. Didn't link the two moves.
:52:41. > :52:51.Never loses form. Makes it all look easy. Very naturalist Eilish. --
:52:52. > :53:03.stylish. He certainly fought back every inch
:53:04. > :53:09.of the way. He has had a goal. I am surprised with how he has come back
:53:10. > :53:14.from a week start. He will challenge for top place here. But was too
:53:15. > :53:23.late, was the comeback too late. That's the question.
:53:24. > :53:37.He thought he was worth a bit more. He loves the competition though.
:53:38. > :53:52.Larduet needs a good score to go ahead of Deng Shudi. Look at that
:53:53. > :53:53.start. Beautiful double front. Big tumbling have turn in the second of
:53:54. > :54:01.the pike. Big stuff. Both somersaults high and the second
:54:02. > :54:26.one was great. Gates his way to the corner.
:54:27. > :54:35.Maximise the run-up. Beautiful style.
:54:36. > :54:42.Talk about excitement, what a future this young man has got.
:54:43. > :54:54.It is big, it has to be. He almost lost it. Kept it at the end. He did
:54:55. > :54:57.well to contain all of that power. What an all-round debut this has
:54:58. > :55:00.been for her at the World Championships.
:55:01. > :55:07.He says, be that if you can, Uchimura. We have seen the emergence
:55:08. > :55:13.of a big new start in gymnastics, wherever he finishes today, he has
:55:14. > :55:30.made his mark on this Championships and the sport. Verniaiev is up in
:55:31. > :55:36.the medals at the moment. Not enough to go ahead of Deng Shudi. From the
:55:37. > :55:42.most inexperienced gymnast in the world to the most experienced. Going
:55:43. > :55:44.for a sixth consecutive all-round title, never been done before, this
:55:45. > :56:11.is Uchimura to make history. lovely precision in the half-time.
:56:12. > :56:29.Love it. He had to struggle on and rescue it. Original, risky work.
:56:30. > :56:38.It is all over, but do it with class. He does it with superb class.
:56:39. > :56:42.Beautiful. Wonderful stuff. What a moment for that man. He is on top of
:56:43. > :56:58.the world. The respect that is going around
:56:59. > :57:07.this arena to witness this live. Something very special, we won't see
:57:08. > :57:10.the like of him in many a year, I have never seen a gymnast better and
:57:11. > :57:18.I have been in gymnastics a long, long time. Wonderful, six times
:57:19. > :57:23.world champion. There are other performances to go but the need to
:57:24. > :57:29.score 21 to get near it. Today he was pushed, he had to work better
:57:30. > :57:39.than today than he has in previous occasions.
:57:40. > :57:45.Larduet score, he has got himself a medal.
:57:46. > :57:54.Not since Richards of the 70s Cuba have impressed us and he is
:57:55. > :57:56.impressing as now. He is often the Olympics as well. Fantastic and so
:57:57. > :58:03.he should be. Cool and calm until the scoreboard
:58:04. > :58:21.reveals. Is he over 92. Icing on the cake. He
:58:22. > :58:30.has been magnificent right the way round. The whole world will be
:58:31. > :58:35.congratulating him soon. The run-up and the preparation might not have
:58:36. > :58:40.been what he wanted, but has he done it on the night?
:58:41. > :58:54.92.332. He is number one and let's count them. They are the titles, all
:58:55. > :59:00.six of them and they are all yours. Fantastic stuff, what a performer.
:59:01. > :59:03.He is absolutely unique and you can never use that word lightly. He is
:59:04. > :59:15.unique. What a privilege to be here. There
:59:16. > :59:23.he is, six times world champion and what a way to finish. Beautiful
:59:24. > :59:44.dismount. And we will continue our discussion on our programme.
