:00:49. > :00:56.Well, hello and welcome to the 4th day of finals here at the World

:00:57. > :01:00.Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow. Today sees the individual apparatus

:01:01. > :01:03.specialists take to the arena. We will see the men's floor pommels and

:01:04. > :01:08.rings and the women will be performing on bars and vault.

:01:09. > :01:09.Listen, we have some strong medal contention for Britain today with

:01:10. > :01:22.six final placings in all. After the all-round competition

:01:23. > :01:28.yesterday, both Max Whitlock and Dan Purvis are back here again in the

:01:29. > :01:35.floor final. Ellie Downie has qualified for

:01:36. > :01:38.vault. Max's second final will see him join

:01:39. > :01:44.Louis Smith on the pommel horse. Louis was highest qualifier and has

:01:45. > :01:47.his sights on another world medal. Ruby Harrold is back after her bars

:01:48. > :01:55.routine helped Britain get that historic team bronze.

:01:56. > :01:58.So there is a lot to look forward to and a lot to get excited about.

:01:59. > :02:03.Joining me to talk us through the action this afternoon we have three

:02:04. > :02:05.times world champion Beth Tweddle and world silver medallist Dan

:02:06. > :02:09.Keatings. Welcome to you both. We are going to start with the floor.

:02:10. > :02:12.All the gymnasts are coming out behind us at the moment. It's very

:02:13. > :02:18.loud in here. We will talk about the floor. It's a

:02:19. > :02:21.12 metre by 12 metre sprung floor. The gymnasts have 70 seconds to

:02:22. > :02:28.squeeze in as much difficulty as possible. The special requirements

:02:29. > :02:33.for the routine, Dan? A mix of four tumbles, backward tumbles, side and

:02:34. > :02:38.dismount. You can connect both of them to increase difficulty. Max

:02:39. > :02:43.Whitlock has come on to the stage. A roar in the Hydro Arena. Beth, he

:02:44. > :02:50.has been very impressive on floor the last few competitions. He is

:02:51. > :02:55.always in amongst the 15. 7 mark. He qualified down the ranks. Some will

:02:56. > :02:59.look and think in the team final and the all round he scored around that

:03:00. > :03:04.15. 7. He loves the crowd and performing under pressure. We it

:03:05. > :03:07.last night. He was able to pick himself up after that

:03:08. > :03:11.disappointment. It's really exciting what he could potentially do today.

:03:12. > :03:15.He will be busy this afternoon. He is in two finals, the pommel horse

:03:16. > :03:19.will be the next male final after this one, as well. It's important he

:03:20. > :03:22.keeps his focus. I think actually by doing the floor first it will settle

:03:23. > :03:26.him down a bit. He can use that crowd, get the atmosphere. He knows

:03:27. > :03:30.what it's like performing out there. Then he can come out and it's

:03:31. > :03:41.definitely going to be a challenge between him and Louis for that top

:03:42. > :03:45.table. He is up against Kensal and then guy can't half twist.

:03:46. > :03:48.22-and-a-half twists and when I did floor I only did ten in my routine.

:03:49. > :03:59.That shows how difficult his routine is. If he goes through he is going

:04:00. > :04:04.to be hard to beat. And also Larduet, the Cuban gymnast, he

:04:05. > :04:06.scored yesterday. He has to contain all his energy. The power can

:04:07. > :04:11.sometimes be his problem. Definitely. He will be feeling

:04:12. > :04:13.really pumped after yesterday's performance. I think what's

:04:14. > :04:16.important for him today is he can gain that automatic qualification

:04:17. > :04:21.spot if he can get a medal here today for the Olympics next year.

:04:22. > :04:23.Deng Shudi got bronze in the all-round competition. He is going

:04:24. > :04:28.to be a strong contender, Beth. He is. This floor final is going to be

:04:29. > :04:33.really tough. Every gymnast has a great start. I think Kenzo has that

:04:34. > :04:37.lead with the start and the difficulty before the gymnasts even

:04:38. > :04:41.present to the judge. We talked about the fact that not a lot is

:04:42. > :04:46.known about this Cuban gymnast yet he has come here, 19 years old to

:04:47. > :04:51.make his mark on the world. Three individual finals on top of the

:04:52. > :04:54.silver he got in the all round. Yeah, definitely. I think the world

:04:55. > :04:57.is in his hands at the moment. He can come here and win and have a

:04:58. > :05:00.couple of medals and still has a bright future ahead of him. He is

:05:01. > :05:08.still young and there's years left in the sport. We will hand over to

:05:09. > :05:14.Mitch Fenner and Christine Still in the commentary box.

:05:15. > :05:21.Manrique Larduet opens up today's proceedings. Stand by, this guy

:05:22. > :05:26.really can tumble. Qualified in 7th.

:05:27. > :05:41.15. 166. First tumble. Double tuck front.

:05:42. > :05:47.Emphatically landed. That's lovely. Double straight. You

:05:48. > :05:54.can see the half turn in. Double Arabian. But expensive those paces.

:05:55. > :06:09.Twisting precisely. Double pike Arabian. Showing plenty

:06:10. > :06:18.of power but a little hesitation will cost him a 10th or two.

:06:19. > :06:22.Simple, light linking. Back to the tumble. Two-and-a-half twists, full

:06:23. > :06:30.twist and look at the precision there.

:06:31. > :06:51.More power. Beautifully done. Double tuck Arabian. The third. Boy,

:06:52. > :06:54.that was really impressive work! STUDIO: What a way to get this floor

:06:55. > :06:57.final under way. We will introduce you to this scorecard now and give

:06:58. > :07:01.you an idea what you will see this afternoon and how gymnasts can build

:07:02. > :07:06.their score. We will start here with the difficulty, Dan. The ten most

:07:07. > :07:12.difficult moves for men. You have ten moves in the routine. You have

:07:13. > :07:17.to try to get the most difficult you can, ranging from one 10th to seven

:07:18. > :07:22.valued for each move. That move there on the screen, that was a

:07:23. > :07:25.seven 10ths move, I think. You get extra marks for linking them, as

:07:26. > :07:30.well. There was a few times during the routine where he went from a

:07:31. > :07:35.twist moving into another twisting move and you can gain 0. 1 or two

:07:36. > :07:38.for a connection bonus. The difficulty is separate to the

:07:39. > :07:43.execution judges, Beth. We will move on to this section here that you

:07:44. > :07:47.will see on the scorecard. It simply says execution. Yes, the execution

:07:48. > :07:52.will start from a ten and for every step they take they'll take that

:07:53. > :08:04.away from the ten. A small step can be 0. 1. A fall is a whole mark. A

:08:05. > :08:08.big step can be 0. 3. They can start going into the penalty. The penalty

:08:09. > :08:12.comes into play on vault and floor. Yeah, on vault if you step out of

:08:13. > :08:15.the lines, on floor if you step off the white floor on to the red

:08:16. > :08:22.carpet, or if you go over time. Hopefully that all makes sense and

:08:23. > :08:28.you can see a total of 14. 8. All the scores are added together. The

:08:29. > :08:33.conundrum is how difficult do you go before it starts interrupting on the

:08:34. > :08:37.execution? Back to the action with Mitch and Christine. This is Hansol

:08:38. > :08:55.Kim from Korea, the 4th highest qualifier.

:08:56. > :09:01.Good concentration for this opening approach. Lovely three-and-a-half

:09:02. > :09:06.twists into a front somersault with half turn. Three-and-a-half twists,

:09:07. > :09:13.really got a big tariff, as has that. Double twisting. Double tuck.

:09:14. > :09:21.So he has already built a lot of difficulty. Here we go. Full twist

:09:22. > :09:29.into two-and-a-half twists. Very nice indeed. He hasn't given away

:09:30. > :09:34.many execution faults yet. Oh! There is a big one. There is a big

:09:35. > :09:40.deduction. If they think he sat right down it's one whole mark off

:09:41. > :09:49.that execution score. If they feel he saved it, it could be 0. 8.

:09:50. > :09:56.That's where the judges have a little tolerance. Nicely done into

:09:57. > :10:01.the one three-quarter rollout, extended his legs before he rolled.

:10:02. > :10:06.Really needs to be secure here. Just that little hop. That was well

:10:07. > :10:17.recovered. But what a shame, in the middle of that routine a big

:10:18. > :10:24.deduction. Possibly one whole mark. Yes, I think, he just saved actually

:10:25. > :10:28.brushing the floor. But it was - it shows you how easies to make a

:10:29. > :10:32.mistake like that. -- easy it is to make a mistake like that. He tried

:10:33. > :10:43.to slow it down too much, Mitch. Looked so clean. It was a pity. Here

:10:44. > :10:51.we go. Double twisting, double back. That was very nicely landed. There

:10:52. > :10:58.wouldn't be much deduction there, maybe a 0. 1 for the chest down.

:10:59. > :11:05.Let's have a look. It was the punch double twist. No, he saved it. Yeah.

:11:06. > :11:12.He did save that. Lovely work all the same. Twists well, jumps well.

:11:13. > :11:16.Look at this. Absolute cracker! Even that little

:11:17. > :11:24.two-footed hop back will be deducted. When that execution score

:11:25. > :11:32.comes up it will probably be, I would think, into the sevens, the

:11:33. > :11:40.execution for that. But it's a difficult routine. Very difficult.

:11:41. > :11:51.Anxious moments always, of course. STUDIO: The score is in.

:11:52. > :11:57.An execution of 8. 133. They were impressed with all the rest. The

:11:58. > :12:08.third gymnast in this men's floor final, this is Ray Zapata Santana

:12:09. > :12:15.from Spain. A constant finalist at world and European level.

:12:16. > :12:26.22 years old. Qualified with a difficulty of 6. 7. So, prepare for

:12:27. > :12:35.a few fireworks! Nice spring in. One-and-a-half

:12:36. > :12:46.twists into double pike. Nicely done. It's a short run. Explosive

:12:47. > :12:54.quality in this man's work. Yeah! Very good stuff. What a start he has

:12:55. > :12:57.had so far. Spring, full twist into double

:12:58. > :13:03.twist. Hesitation into that link. Strange,

:13:04. > :13:06.after such difficult work. Two-and-a-half into half and the

:13:07. > :13:19.flourish into the air. That's a good wide handstand. Good

:13:20. > :13:21.Japanese handstand. Fully credited. He has this characteristic... There

:13:22. > :13:31.it is, you see it. There it is again.

:13:32. > :13:33.So clean on the rollout. They're looking for smooth transitions, the

:13:34. > :13:43.judges. There was some lovely work in

:13:44. > :13:46.that.esque static. STUDIO: Well, this is the battle

:13:47. > :13:50.with the difficulty and the execution. You do something that's a

:13:51. > :13:55.little bit easier but you do it beautifully well. Third highest

:13:56. > :13:58.qualifier, Chris. He hasn't given much away there at all. Just a

:13:59. > :14:08.little bounce back on that first tumble. It was a tiny bit short.

:14:09. > :14:15.That probably will be a 0. 3. The judges will think it wasn't high

:14:16. > :14:19.enough. They can pile on deductions. Yeah, double deduction for that. The

:14:20. > :14:25.paces and the lack of height. He really saved it well. It could have

:14:26. > :14:30.been a lot more costly and that really was the big mistake of the

:14:31. > :14:35.day. After that he completed this. Look, two twists and two somersaults

:14:36. > :14:45.in the straight position. Enormously difficult. Plenty of time to look

:14:46. > :14:49.for a landing, as well. Are they in full flight or does the floor

:14:50. > :14:55.surprise them? There, that will be another deduction. A full twist,

:14:56. > :14:59.immediate double twist. It takes a lot of Orientation. This the double

:15:00. > :15:04.straight. Loads of height and rotation there. Well, a great

:15:05. > :15:26.routine from him. He can't contain himself. Yes!

:15:27. > :15:36.15.2, Santana goes into the lead at this stage. Five gymnasts to go. The

:15:37. > :15:43.top eight from qualification. Great Britain's Dan Purvis, next to take

:15:44. > :15:45.to the floor in the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow. The British champion,

:15:46. > :15:56.two times European bronze medallist. I love that double twisting double

:15:57. > :16:05.back, a tiny pace forwards. So efficient. Very good again. The

:16:06. > :16:09.forward twisting elements linked. The double front. He is really

:16:10. > :16:17.efficient on the forward double rotation. He seems to know just

:16:18. > :16:23.where he is. And again. Completely solid.

:16:24. > :16:28.Lovely, stylish work. The extension off the floor, arms wide, securely

:16:29. > :16:44.held. That is his signature move, the roll

:16:45. > :16:52.out on straight legs. No hands. Makes it all look so easy.

:16:53. > :17:00.The flip without hands into the double Arabian, and he nails the

:17:01. > :17:11.landing! He grew with that routine. A superb performance. The score to

:17:12. > :17:16.beat, 15.2. I think he could do it. A slight weakness in the first two

:17:17. > :17:25.landings, but he certainly went for it for the remaining tumbles. Very,

:17:26. > :17:29.very impressive from Dan. Even more impressive, it was only just last

:17:30. > :17:39.night he was performing in the all-around competition with just the

:17:40. > :17:46.same precision. The double double. A double deduction there. He will lose

:17:47. > :17:51.for that, but he is such a fighter, he was not making a big step or

:17:52. > :17:55.putting a hand down. He can sense where he is, just let go of the legs

:17:56. > :18:03.at the right moment to land on the floor. Super. Accurate. Very

:18:04. > :18:08.precise. We have said so many times that Dan Purvis is the rock of the

:18:09. > :18:14.British team. A wonderful all-round team performer. And yet here he is,

:18:15. > :18:24.absolutely on his own merit. Impressive. It is, Mitch. Such a

:18:25. > :18:37.hard tumble to finish with. You are unsighted. The national coach, along

:18:38. > :18:47.with Jeff Brooks, he coaches Dan. It's going to be close. It is close!

:18:48. > :18:57.15.1, Dan Purvis is in second at the moment.

:18:58. > :19:18.Deng Shudi scored 15.3 in qualifications. He made a quiet

:19:19. > :19:27.impression last night. A lovely start. His feet in a port of blue.

:19:28. > :19:37.-- a pot of glue. Nice, strong chest shape in the

:19:38. > :19:52.triple Russian. What has impressed me so far is the

:19:53. > :20:07.control. Oh a little hop forward in the full

:20:08. > :20:19.twisting double. A good Japanese handstand, well

:20:20. > :20:28.held. If he sticks this landing, he really is challenging. What a shame.

:20:29. > :20:36.A big jump forward. The only clear error, Chris. Yes. A tiny bit off

:20:37. > :20:40.the full completion of the twist as well, but very clean work. He has

:20:41. > :20:47.had a great championship, Deng Shudi. A championship that has built

:20:48. > :20:50.over the course of being here. Verification really good, they

:20:51. > :21:00.almost got it together for the team final but Great Britain beat them.

:21:01. > :21:07.In the all-around, 18 medal, -- a medal,. So many of them go that

:21:08. > :21:15.twisting route to build the difficulty. Nice and clean, Chris.

:21:16. > :21:19.Yes, he is very nice and clean. I often think the team from China

:21:20. > :21:22.struggle to travel to Europe and perform well. It has probably just

:21:23. > :21:36.taken them a week or so to settle. Always technically good. You never

:21:37. > :21:44.see a tiny 's gymnast that's not technically efficient. -- a Chinese

:21:45. > :21:49.gymnast. Train from so young. If they are going to be a talent, they

:21:50. > :21:56.are in the system early, where things are done utterly correctly.

:21:57. > :22:04.Chest really down there, though. The judges can take half a mark for the

:22:05. > :22:12.chest being so low. And the face. What a pity.

:22:13. > :22:23.He is in the second. Behind Santana, who still leads the

:22:24. > :22:29.competition. And Purves is in third at the moment. But for how long?

:22:30. > :22:33.Kenzo Shirai takes to the floor. A silver in last year's World

:22:34. > :22:38.Championships. The current world champion didn't make the final here.

:22:39. > :22:47.The opening tumble had no problems attached. He knows where he is. I

:22:48. > :22:51.love that as well. When we first saw him, it was always just multiple

:22:52. > :22:58.twists, but that was multiple twists and multiple somersaults.

:22:59. > :23:04.Lovely control. In fact, I think he has tidied up his work quite

:23:05. > :23:09.considerably this year. Full twist into triple twist forwards. He just

:23:10. > :23:28.has to spin. He has a little bit of virtuosity

:23:29. > :23:38.there, as well. A bit of originality. He would dearly love to

:23:39. > :23:45.land the last tumble. Four twists. As clean as you like! That was

:23:46. > :23:52.fantastic work. Mr Twist does it again. Unbelievable stuff. He was

:23:53. > :23:58.given a 7.6 difficulty in qualification. Well, I'm sure the

:23:59. > :24:03.judges will not be deducting for difficulty there, so this is going

:24:04. > :24:10.to be all on the execution. Can this man be beaten? I don't think so. The

:24:11. > :24:16.rest of the field were hoping he would make a mistake, because he is

:24:17. > :24:22.0.8 up on difficulty to anyone else. And he didn't oblige. He made sure

:24:23. > :24:31.he was absolutely secure. 23 twists, they counted. The boys and girls in

:24:32. > :24:37.the studio. Incredible. If you think that his difficulty is 7.2... If

:24:38. > :24:43.they can't take anything off, that is 17.2, he could score. They will

:24:44. > :24:48.take 0.1 for the sideways, but where do the other marks ago? Apart from

:24:49. > :24:54.that, it was like hopping off a curb.

:24:55. > :25:01.I guess maybe sometimes his legs are tiny bit crossed. But to the naked

:25:02. > :25:10.eye, at normal speed, you really wouldn't notice that. He has had a

:25:11. > :25:21.16.1 and 16.3 to five, while he has been here. -- 16 point 325.

:25:22. > :25:24.When you start from 17, it means they still found a mark of

:25:25. > :25:54.deductions. He increased it considerably from

:25:55. > :25:58.one of occasion, the difficulty. How confident was that, to step up the

:25:59. > :26:03.difficulty in the final, knowing what you had before would win?

:26:04. > :26:16.Max Whitlock. Spins around very efficiently. Two and a half twists.

:26:17. > :26:25.Three and a half. A skip sideways. He has got those flourishes. His

:26:26. > :26:28.suits the air flare very well. Keeps the flow.

:26:29. > :26:39.I love that rhythm. Absolute control.

:26:40. > :26:56.Two and a half, one and a half from it. Very good work.

:26:57. > :27:05.He makes the roll out look so easy. Almost ignoring the one and a half

:27:06. > :27:11.twists. So clean. Triple twist. Just a foot back, but boy, he pull

:27:12. > :27:17.something out of the locker there. Well done, Max Whitlock. A third

:27:18. > :27:24.great routine from Max Whitlock in as many days. He must have gone home

:27:25. > :27:32.last night a bit disappointed to have not been in the medals, but he

:27:33. > :27:41.has absolutely shown his mettle, to show us a fantastic routine. He

:27:42. > :27:49.needs over 15.2 to beat Santana. Has to be worth it, I think. Full twist,

:27:50. > :27:56.two and a half twists, a skip to the side. Uses both arms to shift. Quite

:27:57. > :28:03.a stylist. He is high through the air, Chris. He won the prize

:28:04. > :28:09.yesterday for the most stylish gymnast in the competition. So he

:28:10. > :28:13.has obviously impressed many. I absolutely love this. Pushes hard.

:28:14. > :28:26.So difficult to time the air flare. Commonwealth gold medallist,

:28:27. > :28:28.European champion two years ago. What are the judges going to award

:28:29. > :28:33.him? I would be surprised if he was not

:28:34. > :28:47.safely above 15.2. That puts him into silver medal

:28:48. > :28:51.position at the moment, with one gymnast left to go. Great Britain

:28:52. > :28:57.guaranteed a medal. Fabulous. He kept his cool and produced the

:28:58. > :29:05.goods. He's got a medal. This will decide what colour.

:29:06. > :29:15.And this lad can work the floor. Tomas Gonzalez. Just outside the

:29:16. > :29:23.medals at the Olympics in London. That was a bit of an error right at

:29:24. > :29:26.the beginning. A big step forwards. These gymnasts performed those

:29:27. > :29:31.double somersault is so well. That one from a full twist in front

:29:32. > :29:37.preceding it. Double twisting double back.

:29:38. > :29:53.Another gymnast with wonderful style. Smooth lift to handstand.

:29:54. > :30:05.Much better this time, the multiple twists.

:30:06. > :30:12.And the very popular one and three-quarters which means you

:30:13. > :30:20.finish by rolling out, rather than on your feet. The bell to say one

:30:21. > :30:23.more tumble. Triple twist. He was still spinning when he hit the floor

:30:24. > :30:27.and had to step to the side. A little error on the first and last

:30:28. > :30:33.tunnel bells. The stuff in the middle was -- tumbles. The stuff in

:30:34. > :30:40.the middle was great. Impressive this young man. That first tumble,

:30:41. > :30:48.though, Matt, very expensive. There you go. That's at least five 10ths.

:30:49. > :30:53.Because he struggled hard not to put his knee down really, didn't he?

:30:54. > :30:58.Yeah. As you mentioned, Chris, they can judge backwards from that and

:30:59. > :31:05.say he must have been low, take-off lack of height and the paces and the

:31:06. > :31:13.deductions stack up. It's a shame because he is a great floor worker.

:31:14. > :31:21.There weren't many other deductions to it.

:31:22. > :31:28.Good control that time around. The judges can deduct for lack of height

:31:29. > :31:35.even on these somersaults that are in combination. You see this, the

:31:36. > :31:40.triple twist. He bounded to the side.

:31:41. > :31:46.Well, he said, I did my best! He had a long wait, to be fair. 8th gymnast

:31:47. > :32:08.up. Oh, yes. The score is in. 8th place for

:32:09. > :32:13.Gonzalez but that confirms there is your floor world champion, Kenzo

:32:14. > :32:22.Shirai. Silver last year, this year he is world champion.

:32:23. > :32:33.And beside him for Great Britain, Max Whitlock. What an achievement

:32:34. > :32:46.for him. He matches the great Neil Thomas on floor in the early 90s.

:32:47. > :32:56.93. There is the bronze medallist, Santana. But what a story for Max

:32:57. > :33:01.Whitlock. Such a great effort yesterday. Here

:33:02. > :33:07.on floor he has got a silver. Time to refocus. Pommel horse is next for

:33:08. > :33:13.him. He has a reasonable wait. The women take to their first apparatus.

:33:14. > :33:19.He has to wait, Chris and he will recover, I think. He looks very

:33:20. > :33:32.relaxed, which is great. There is the confirmation.

:33:33. > :33:41.What a floor routine from Dan Purvis, Chris. Yes, he really hasn't

:33:42. > :33:48.faulted at all. He has been so secure, so confident. Yeah, a real

:33:49. > :33:53.pleasure to watch. Watching that very closely was Beth, world

:33:54. > :33:59.champion in 2009 on floor, and Dan Keatings, as well. It went to plan

:34:00. > :34:09.for Max. I don't think he would have had his sights on gold with -- with

:34:10. > :34:15.Kenzo. Max went out, he did his job and he was going for that silver

:34:16. > :34:20.place. You have to remember it's about his fourth day of competition,

:34:21. > :34:24.to be able to produce another world-class floor routine after last

:34:25. > :34:29.night's disappointment, as well. His class, his form, it's just, you

:34:30. > :34:33.can't fault him at all. It just seems incredibly confident with this

:34:34. > :34:37.routine, Dan. How often do you watch him perform this? Every day in

:34:38. > :34:42.training. He is one of the best floor workers in the world.

:34:43. > :34:49.Definitely in our country. Every day he is on the floor doing each,

:34:50. > :34:55.three-and-a-half, it's unbelievable how easy he makes it look. It's

:34:56. > :34:59.wonderful that flair work. It's nice with all these gymnasts putting

:35:00. > :35:04.individual twists on to routines. That's his trademark, as well. I

:35:05. > :35:08.have seen a couple try it, but not as good as our Max. There was a roar

:35:09. > :35:14.in the crowd as Ellie Downie got introduced on to the floor here. We

:35:15. > :35:18.have the vault final coming up. These days it's known as the

:35:19. > :35:21.vaulting table, it's revolutionised the sport now you have this metre

:35:22. > :35:28.square area to aim for. Yeah, it has. It changed back in 2000. It was

:35:29. > :35:32.done for safety reasons. Both men's and women's vaults have increased.

:35:33. > :35:39.On the women's side you are not going to make a final, or win a

:35:40. > :35:43.medal unless you are doing the two-and-a-half twisting. We will

:35:44. > :35:47.come to that move in a second. To start with, Dan, an idea of how this

:35:48. > :35:52.final will work. Gymnasts get two vaults. Two vaults with two

:35:53. > :35:59.different entries and they get averaged at the end. If you get 16.

:36:00. > :36:06.2 and 16. 1 you will get an average of 16. 15. Very good maths there!

:36:07. > :36:12.Let's look at those different entries and talk us through it. This

:36:13. > :36:19.is Ellie, you can see the hands are facing backwards, doing a backwards

:36:20. > :36:22.double twist. In comparison, you can enter the vault forward using the

:36:23. > :36:28.hand spring entry and multiple twists off it. Don't get caught out

:36:29. > :36:32.because some of the gymnasts will still use the round off entry but

:36:33. > :36:37.will do a half turn and still use the hand spring off and that's

:36:38. > :36:47.counted as a forward vault. OK. We have bills bills bills from the US

:36:48. > :36:54.-- Simone Biles, the highest qualifier and Hong Un Jong. The

:36:55. > :36:58.Korean was out of this world. Did about two three-and-a-halves and I

:36:59. > :37:03.didn't see a step. It's going to be a battle. She has the highest

:37:04. > :37:12.difficulty than Simone. It is going to be a close battle. Simone will be

:37:13. > :37:16.next up on stage. We saw the Chinese champion. It's difficult for the

:37:17. > :37:20.younger gymnasts to have two very difficult vaults at a young age.

:37:21. > :37:24.Yeah, Ellie is going to have a lower difficulty. But she's got very good

:37:25. > :37:29.form. The judges don't have much execution to take off her. It will

:37:30. > :37:43.be interesting to see how she's marked against those that have the

:37:44. > :37:47.two highest start values. A word on Dipa Karmakar from India, the first

:37:48. > :37:53.to qualify. She did the Commonwealth Games last year and medaled there.

:37:54. > :37:57.The first vault is impressive. It's a hand spring double vault. Not many

:37:58. > :38:01.are attempting it. She did it very well in qualification and that is

:38:02. > :38:08.the highest difficulty that you are going to see in this vault final.

:38:09. > :38:18.Well, Simone Biles took silver at the last worlds behind Hong Un Jong,

:38:19. > :38:28.separated by 0. 0.045. This is going to be an incredible battle. We see

:38:29. > :38:35.them in the order they go in. Christine, where do you see this

:38:36. > :38:41.final going? Probably to the Korean. Like Beth said, she looked

:38:42. > :38:44.efficient. Steingruber is good as well and also Paseka. I think it's

:38:45. > :38:48.going to be quite a fight. They'll all need to perform well to medal.

:38:49. > :38:55.It's not going to be a case of get your feet down and the medal is

:38:56. > :39:02.yours. Well, let's get down to the end of the vault runway. This is

:39:03. > :39:09.Moreno Medina from Mexico. Has been on the vaulting scene for some years

:39:10. > :39:17.now. Made many a world final. Last one back in 2011.

:39:18. > :39:30.21 years old. So, just a reminder, two vaults. The

:39:31. > :39:33.average is taken. She has two really quite difficult vaults, tariffed

:39:34. > :39:47.over six difficulty. She's nominated the first with 6. 2

:39:48. > :39:54.in difficulty. All eyes are on her, there is no other gymnastics on in

:39:55. > :39:59.the arena. Talk about feeling you are in the spotlight! Not for the

:40:00. > :40:05.faint-hearted. It's all or nothing on this piece of apparatus. It's

:40:06. > :40:12.over in the blink of an eye. Vault number one then for Moreno

:40:13. > :40:17.Medina. Really powerful. Going to approach it forwards. Very good

:40:18. > :40:24.effort. She went for the hand spring straight front with one-and-a-half

:40:25. > :40:30.twists. Good shape. But she had a heavy pike down on the landing. Very

:40:31. > :40:37.impressive, though. Into the straight shape. Twist. A little bit

:40:38. > :40:42.low. Skip forward. It will be expensive, but very adventurous. A

:40:43. > :40:48.big push. Twist in the straight body. That big push you are talking

:40:49. > :40:53.about there, that block, that's so important. Almost the front of the

:40:54. > :40:56.table there. Front of the table is a little sprung. If you can hit the

:40:57. > :41:00.right point it gives you a little bit of spring, as well. Of course

:41:01. > :41:03.you need to be quite a big gymnast to commit that because then you have

:41:04. > :41:10.to launch over the table and not land on it. Mitch, there is a couple

:41:11. > :41:19.of different springboards down there, as well. They'll be different

:41:20. > :41:22.springiness. Yes, it's all about the reaction, the more springs the

:41:23. > :41:27.quicker the reaction. Some people like a slow reaction. The light

:41:28. > :41:31.gymnasts will use one with less springs in. Some of the gymnasts

:41:32. > :41:35.here are very slight and light. That's when the coaches will change

:41:36. > :41:40.the board. There you can see the score for vault number one. A

:41:41. > :41:46.difficulty of 6. 2. You may just be able to see over the corner of her

:41:47. > :41:52.shoulder, at the side, you will see the scorecard of what the difficulty

:41:53. > :41:56.is for the next vault. Maybe you won't from this angle.

:41:57. > :42:02.But I can see it from here. I can tell you it's a six.

:42:03. > :42:10.As Dan said, this has to be different. Can't go on forwards. She

:42:11. > :42:14.turns. Double twist. That's the half turn on. Straight one-and-a-half

:42:15. > :42:22.somersault off with two twists. Very difficult. It's why it's given the

:42:23. > :42:28.tariff of six. But again the step to the side. The characteristic with

:42:29. > :42:32.her is she attacks it, doesn't she? So aggressive in her approach and

:42:33. > :42:43.thumps out those vaults. You can see it here. What an example

:42:44. > :42:49.of it. Lovely power. Twist to the side. Step to the side.

:42:50. > :42:53.That will be seen. That will be deducted. Yeah, it comes from the

:42:54. > :43:01.feet over the top on the first move on the flight on. She was already a

:43:02. > :43:06.little bit offline. But tremendous achievement to make the World

:43:07. > :43:13.Championship vault final. Top eight gymnasts in the world on vault. For

:43:14. > :43:16.many of the gymnasts that's a huge ambition and achievement. Actually

:43:17. > :43:25.the feet weren't completely around the two twists, so the judges, if

:43:26. > :43:30.they want, could not give it. So that's the score to beat.

:43:31. > :43:38.The average of the two vaults. Ellie Downie now at the end of the

:43:39. > :43:42.vault runway. Junior European champion last year.

:43:43. > :43:46.Gave a great vault for the team and that's another beautiful vault. You

:43:47. > :43:52.can see she's got bags of height and flight. Plenty of time really to add

:43:53. > :43:58.in another half twist for Rio. We talked about early on the platform

:43:59. > :44:03.and she did hit the right spot and absolutely rocketed up from that,

:44:04. > :44:14.great stuff. She's a fabulous vaulter. You can see the height. She

:44:15. > :44:19.almost had too much flight. Such a lovely conversion upwards. Slightly

:44:20. > :44:27.to the side, but in the air so efficient. Here is the shot where

:44:28. > :44:33.she makes contact. Bang! Yeah, very, very good technically, Ellie. As you

:44:34. > :44:37.say, Chris, looking ahead to Rio, the team definitely qualify with

:44:38. > :44:42.that historic bronze medal and to come to an arena like this and know

:44:43. > :44:45.you can get that kind of height here must fill her with absolute

:44:46. > :44:50.confidence. Yes, without any doubt, if you want a medal at the Olympics

:44:51. > :45:01.you will need to do a two-and-a-half.

:45:02. > :45:07.This one is a difficulty of 5. 6. She holds such beautiful form. Let's

:45:08. > :45:13.hope she can today. A half turn on. She's forward. Straight somersault.

:45:14. > :45:16.A half twist. Now we see gymnasts sometimes compromise pike and arch.

:45:17. > :45:25.She absolutely holds that straight body.

:45:26. > :45:39.Wonderful execution through the vault. You need to be really squared

:45:40. > :45:45.to make contact with the platform. The half turn... She was very

:45:46. > :45:50.square. Beautiful. The gymnasts with the bigger start put another twist

:45:51. > :45:55.in that, but I'm sure you guys would agree, there is plenty of airtime to

:45:56. > :45:59.put in another twist. And the shape is right, dead straight, very

:46:00. > :46:08.efficient, twisting around that axis. Such lovely technique. Super

:46:09. > :46:13.vaulting. So although a medal might be a long shot today, British

:46:14. > :46:23.gymnastics feel very hopeful for the future for Ellie as a vaulter. And a

:46:24. > :46:26.reminder that she is 16 years old. What a score, Ellie Downey into the

:46:27. > :46:29.lead at the moment. Still plenty of gymnasts to go in the women'svault

:46:30. > :46:55.world final. Gold at last year's worlds, gold at

:46:56. > :47:01.the Olympics. Super efficient. There's the two and a half twists.

:47:02. > :47:06.She just puts it up so high. Two and a half is easy for her. A

:47:07. > :47:12.pasteboard, but if you look at the height involved in the air, that is

:47:13. > :47:20.what sets her apart. -- a pace forward. Beautifully technically

:47:21. > :47:30.down. Hands on quickly. They turned out as she hits it, so she can keep

:47:31. > :47:38.the elbows straight and pop. And the leg form through the air...

:47:39. > :47:44.Shoulders extended. Dutiful work. -- beautiful work. The transfer of

:47:45. > :47:51.energy, it's a very complicated move. It is. And the straight arms

:47:52. > :47:57.makes it even more efficient. She has given herself time, only in the

:47:58. > :48:01.last phase of flight did she break form. A fabulous vault. The judges

:48:02. > :48:13.agreed. This next vault, believe it or not,

:48:14. > :48:15.is even harder. Talk about saving your best for last. My word. 6.4,

:48:16. > :48:28.this one. The half turn on, and one and one

:48:29. > :48:37.and a half twists. Really well performed. Fantastic defence of her

:48:38. > :48:43.title. Fabulous stuff. She has laid down the gauntlet for Simone Biles.

:48:44. > :48:47.Keeps up the difficulty, the style, and definitely keeps up the

:48:48. > :48:54.challenge. In the warm-up, her coach stood on a chair to give her a bit

:48:55. > :48:58.of lift off the top! She put the chair of the mat, a rickety chair,

:48:59. > :49:04.and gave her a little bit on the top to give her the airtime. She didn't

:49:05. > :49:10.need it there, did she? She wasn't really square on. In fact, not quite

:49:11. > :49:16.as efficient, this bit, as Ellie Downey's. She wasn't quite fully

:49:17. > :49:23.around, so will she be given the full forward? She well. The

:49:24. > :49:31.deductions will be for directions. That is now the school to beat. Hong

:49:32. > :49:39.goes into the lead. Ellie Downey, currently in second.

:49:40. > :50:01.Steingruber, former European champion. The height off that was

:50:02. > :50:08.phenomenal. Concise, job done. Precision. I love to see landings

:50:09. > :50:14.like that. Hardly a bend in the legs. Shoulders up, bang, lovely.

:50:15. > :50:18.Really good work. We have seen this gymnast row over the last couple of

:50:19. > :50:20.years, and she is vaulting better here than we have seen her. --

:50:21. > :50:29.grow. The judges are quite careful with

:50:30. > :50:32.these deductions. They have the lines on the mat so it is clear if

:50:33. > :50:42.they have deviated from the centre at all. A good opener, anyway.

:50:43. > :50:45.Anything can happen on vault. Going into this, our eyes would have

:50:46. > :50:51.potentially been on the bronze medal for her. A real challenge between

:50:52. > :50:58.her and the next gymnast, Paseka, and Simone Biles still to come from

:50:59. > :51:04.the USA. 15.5 is a great start for Steingruber. The next vault is

:51:05. > :51:09.slightly easier. 5.8, posted up on the difficulty scoreboard behind

:51:10. > :51:14.her. She has struggled a bit in the past on her second vault. She lifts

:51:15. > :51:21.up... That was a shame. She lost herself on that. Did it hurt? I

:51:22. > :51:28.think she landed on a bit of a straight knee. It did hurt. A brave

:51:29. > :51:34.effort to walk away. It wasn't on, really. We have seen her in training

:51:35. > :51:40.struggling a bit with the double twist, and she lost herself a bit.

:51:41. > :51:42.One, and she just came out at the half. Yes, that looks not very

:51:43. > :51:56.comfortable. She didn't really break out... She

:51:57. > :52:04.went straight for that leg. She knew she had hurt her knee. Oh, dear. She

:52:05. > :52:10.does also have a place in the floor final. So, let's just hope

:52:11. > :52:20.everything is all right for Steingruber. She had time to get

:52:21. > :52:24.around. That's Sharp. She had time to get around the two twists, she

:52:25. > :52:31.just lost herself a little bit. The Swiss national coach looks on with

:52:32. > :52:34.great concern. And with those forward landings, it is very

:52:35. > :52:39.difficult to spot where the floor is, because you can't see it.

:52:40. > :52:43.Especially as she wasn't intending to land forward, she was expecting

:52:44. > :52:45.the land backwards. One of those cases, Chris, where she was an

:52:46. > :52:57.cited. -- uncited. Downie is in second for Great

:52:58. > :53:20.Britain, behind Hong Un-jong. Paseka was a medallist in the

:53:21. > :53:27.Olympics. Her legs were everywhere, but the height and flight is good.

:53:28. > :53:36.How sharp they have to be on that turn.

:53:37. > :53:43.The half turn on, and one and a half twists off. It looked better from

:53:44. > :53:47.this side. From the other side, you could see how the legs split as she

:53:48. > :53:54.hit and then snapped together to create the twist, which will be

:53:55. > :54:01.deducted. Very complicated, complex vault. Takes a lot of training, that

:54:02. > :54:14.one. A good stab at it. The legs a little alive. -- a little awry. She

:54:15. > :54:17.would have been competing neck and neck with Steingruber, so slightly

:54:18. > :54:27.lost her focus having seen what happened to Steingruber. A big

:54:28. > :54:30.tariff of 6.4, difficulty. A big score for vault number one. The next

:54:31. > :54:47.one a smidgen easier, at 6.3. She needs over 14.56 to go into

:54:48. > :54:54.third. Very good, two and a half twists. Her favourite vault.

:54:55. > :55:02.She got a huge mark for the first one considering I thought she was a

:55:03. > :55:06.little untidy. This was much tidier. The bronze medallist in London at

:55:07. > :55:13.the Olympics on the vault, so one of the more experienced gymnasts here.

:55:14. > :55:21.The current European vault champion. You can see from the overhead camera

:55:22. > :55:28.that she uses the split leg again. On the side on view, the judges

:55:29. > :55:29.can't see that is clearly. But the flight is very good and she was

:55:30. > :55:56.clearly down the middle. So at the moment, Paseka leads Hong

:55:57. > :56:05.Un-jong. Downie in third. The Chinese champion will be up next,

:56:06. > :56:08.Wang Ya n. Simone Biles after her, and then the Indian gymnast Karmakar

:56:09. > :56:18.will be the last to go. This gymnast got gold at the

:56:19. > :56:27.European youth Olympics last year, just 16 years old. Little, but

:56:28. > :56:31.powerful. The double twisting Tsukuhara. A tiny little gymnast,

:56:32. > :56:39.she rocketed up. Very efficient, and how clean was the twisting shape? I

:56:40. > :56:53.thought it was clean, straight or the way. A little pike, and write

:56:54. > :56:58.down the middle, Mr Bing Crosby! The menus the turn on and don't keep the

:56:59. > :57:01.feet over their head, so that is very nice vaulting indeed. -- the

:57:02. > :57:13.men use. The chest was well down on landing,

:57:14. > :57:19.so that will be deducted, but it is a big tariff, six difficulty. She is

:57:20. > :57:25.using the technique of the men, where they really just quarter on,

:57:26. > :57:37.and then one and a half twists out of it. Very efficient. She is after

:57:38. > :57:45.a total of 14.9 to knock Ellie out of the medals. This next vault is

:57:46. > :57:51.even harder. She is posting 6.2 on the difficulty scoreboard.

:57:52. > :58:05.She is actually with good, strong, powerful legs as she runs. Made for

:58:06. > :58:09.vault. Very aggressive. The feat in and out very fast, and it was the

:58:10. > :58:17.straight with one and a half twists, just undercooked it. I love the way

:58:18. > :58:22.she skips along the run, light, fast and powerful. What a shame about the

:58:23. > :58:28.landing. She will have another final, the beam, tomorrow. For a

:58:29. > :58:33.little gymnast, you have to get the feet up and over your head so

:58:34. > :58:36.rapidly to do the straight front somersault with one and a half

:58:37. > :58:44.twists. She knew she had to go for the difficulty. Was it a definite

:58:45. > :58:50.touch? Yes, I think so. She seemed to hit one side of the Springboard

:58:51. > :58:54.there. And they have coils, so you get a bit of a lopsided recoil from

:58:55. > :59:01.the board if you don't hit the centre. Yes, she did, twice. The

:59:02. > :59:09.deduction for lack of height and flight. So she will be hammered for

:59:10. > :59:16.that, unfortunately. At three o'clock today, the men's pommel

:59:17. > :59:27.final, two British men, Louis Smith and Max Whitlock. Wang, in fourth.

:59:28. > :59:32.The British men will be thinking in their minds, what they are going to

:59:33. > :59:38.do, the difficulty level. Stay with us for that. Simone Biles took

:59:39. > :59:47.silver at last year's World Championships. She needs a total of

:59:48. > :59:55.over 15.63. This vault is quite astounding. Have you seen anyone fly

:59:56. > :00:03.higher and be tighter in the air? It was fantastic. Nonchalantly walks

:00:04. > :00:13.off the mat at the end! She knows the job is only half done. Absolute

:00:14. > :00:19.focus. It took my breath away. It's a rocket take-off, isn't it?

:00:20. > :00:23.Unbelievable. Again, she hits in just the right position, and then

:00:24. > :00:27.she almost seems to hover through the shoulders, the fingers. She

:00:28. > :00:34.finds an extra bit of height after, and then wrapping it up. No twisting

:00:35. > :00:41.off the top there. The form and style in-flight...

:00:42. > :00:49.The all-around champion gets 15.9 for vault number one. Made history

:00:50. > :00:54.with three consecutive titles in the women's all-around competition. The

:00:55. > :01:03.medal tally is not over yet, I'm sure. She does do a slightly

:01:04. > :01:06.simpler second vault, so it has to be perfect. The half turn, the

:01:07. > :01:10.straight body, and it pretty well was perfect! She heard you! Great

:01:11. > :01:30.stuff from her. One-and-a-half twists was clean. Did

:01:31. > :01:36.I give an extra twist there? Was I too generous? I think just the half.

:01:37. > :01:43.She does it so cleanly she fools you into thinking there is more twists.

:01:44. > :01:53.Lovely shape. Clean execution. If we are being picky, she was slightly

:01:54. > :02:02.offline! Go on, Matt, find a 10th somewhere. She her body shape in

:02:03. > :02:18.flight just perfectly. A joy to watch and witness. So close at last

:02:19. > :02:25.year's vault final. Oh! Third. Chris, you sit there with a raised

:02:26. > :02:31.eyebrow. Well, the tariff was down. The tariff was lower. It was only a

:02:32. > :02:41.5. 6. I guess that's what lost it for her. Talking of tariffs... Yes,

:02:42. > :02:46.Dipa Karmakar with a seven difficulty.

:02:47. > :02:52.And she has to squeeze this in. Oh! Just got her feet down. If you don't

:02:53. > :03:00.get the feet down first it's a zero. I think she did. She did. The spin,

:03:01. > :03:06.she was a little late getting in, I think. Didn't get the reaction from

:03:07. > :03:13.the top of the table. But she span when she had so. -- when she had to.

:03:14. > :03:17.Yes, cleanly feet first. I think deduction for a low landing and I

:03:18. > :03:24.know it sounds ridiculous, but she tucked the legs a bit early, a bit

:03:25. > :03:33.of a deduction for that. But a very ambitious vault. It's a sit down.

:03:34. > :03:39.That's a sit that. That angle certainly made it look like it,

:03:40. > :03:44.didn't it? Yeah. Hey has to lose a mark for that. I think so. She

:03:45. > :03:49.scored 15. 1 in qualification with that vault. Similar thing happened.

:03:50. > :03:56.You have to remember that this vault is being marked out of 17. Slightly

:03:57. > :04:11.better than qualification. So her final vault and the final

:04:12. > :04:19.vault of this women's world vault final. It's a six difficulty.

:04:20. > :04:28.She went on forwards for the hand spring, so now she has to turn on.

:04:29. > :04:33.Here we go. Oh! Double twist on. She stuttered to the side. A great

:04:34. > :04:36.achievement for a gymnast from India to have made a world final, the

:04:37. > :04:40.first time a female gymnast has achieved that. She will be a little

:04:41. > :04:47.bit disappointed with the performance. Well, she will need 14.

:04:48. > :04:54.899 to knock Ellie Downie out of 4th position.

:04:55. > :05:03.That's going to be heavily deducted, isn't it? Legs apart on contact. No

:05:04. > :05:11.landing, to the side. -- low landing to the side. She just managed to

:05:12. > :05:24.keep her hands off the floor. But there was plenty of deductions for

:05:25. > :05:32.the judges to get their teeth into. So the European champion looks

:05:33. > :05:43.pretty comfortable. Until we see this final score it will not be

:05:44. > :05:52.confirmed. Karamakar finishes in 5th place. There is the new world

:05:53. > :05:59.champion on vault, Maria Paseka from Russia takes the title.

:06:00. > :06:06.Well, a bit of a surprise really, wasn't it, Chris? Yes, it really

:06:07. > :06:15.was. It was difficulty that made the difference. Hong Un Jong in most

:06:16. > :06:20.people's minds was the favourite. She is good in the air, as well.

:06:21. > :06:27.Simone Biles, what about that? Yes, I think she would be surprised. I am

:06:28. > :06:31.sure she could up the difficulty of that second vault and maybe she will

:06:32. > :06:40.feel she has to for the Olympics now which would be great. Maria Paseka

:06:41. > :06:48.is the gold medallist then. Simone Biles has to be content with bronze.

:06:49. > :06:53.Great job from Ellie Downie. For the moment she's battling -- for a

:06:54. > :06:59.moment she was battling for bronze. To vault with such confidence is

:07:00. > :07:07.great for the future. Yes indeed. I think just in a second we can talk

:07:08. > :07:12.to Ellie about that. Ellie, 4th on the first individual

:07:13. > :07:16.World Championships final. How happy are you with that? Over the moon. I

:07:17. > :07:21.know what I had to do what I am doing in training, couldn't have

:07:22. > :07:25.done them better so pleased. Mitch and Christine commented you looked

:07:26. > :07:29.confident. Did you have any nerves? I wasn't too nervous, vaults are my

:07:30. > :07:36.sprongest piece and I kind of know what I am didding. -- strongest. I

:07:37. > :07:39.had to do the best I could. You are still young, there is still much

:07:40. > :07:43.more time to improve? I am not disappointed at all. The first world

:07:44. > :07:47.vault final and coming in 4th is amazing. I have some upgraedz for

:07:48. > :07:51.next year so I know that when they're ready I could be pushing for

:07:52. > :07:54.those medals. You are not finished yet. You still have the floor final.

:07:55. > :08:00.How do you feel going into that? I have to do the best I can. I

:08:01. > :08:02.qualified in 8th and I have to go out there and enjoy it. Well done,

:08:03. > :08:15.thank you. Thank you. Well, Beth, very impressive vaulting

:08:16. > :08:17.indeed from Ellie Downie. Really a similar tactic to Simone Biles, went

:08:18. > :08:23.for the easier second vault and sometimes it can pay off. It can.

:08:24. > :08:30.She has clean form and knows those vaults inside out. She knows exactly

:08:31. > :08:34.how to land them and like she said she has upgrades at home that maybe

:08:35. > :08:37.weren't ready for these championships so who knows what we

:08:38. > :08:41.can see from this young star. Dan, as far as back in the training gym

:08:42. > :08:44.is concerned what will be happening to perfect that extra little bit of

:08:45. > :08:50.twist there ready for Rio? I think she will be working on getting a

:08:51. > :08:55.little bit more height and consistency in training, maybe to

:08:56. > :09:00.get extra twists or upping the second vault for more twists. You

:09:01. > :09:05.will do it into a foam pit and when it's ready finally go over hard.

:09:06. > :09:09.Having these all round gymnasts that can specialise in one particular

:09:10. > :09:12.field, that really is the goal for British gymnastics as we know it so

:09:13. > :09:16.you have the chance at individual all rounds and a chance at team and

:09:17. > :09:20.Ellie is a perfect example of that. She is. That's what has helped

:09:21. > :09:23.British gymnastics rise up through the ranks. We have so many strong

:09:24. > :09:27.individualists but they're also strong on the all round. Every time

:09:28. > :09:31.you are stepping out into this competition arena you are picking up

:09:32. > :09:35.that experience and getting used to the crowds. This was I think her

:09:36. > :09:39.fourth competition out. By tomorrow she will be a dab hand at this and

:09:40. > :09:44.not phased by the at miss fear. Very shortly we will be able to see Louis

:09:45. > :09:47.Smith and Max Whitlock in the pommel horse final. There is a slight

:09:48. > :09:52.hiccup in his preparations for that because he has to come out and get a

:09:53. > :09:55.medal for floor. He would rather be obviously in the gym, would he not,

:09:56. > :09:59.and receive the medal at the end of the day? He would. Rather be back

:10:00. > :10:02.there preparing for the pommel but he is one of the last gymnasts up so

:10:03. > :10:06.he has time to mentally prepare after he gets the silver medal. He

:10:07. > :10:09.will be happy to come out, get the medal in front of a home crowd and

:10:10. > :10:14.look forward to the pommel final. We don't want to miss a thing on this

:10:15. > :10:19.ceremony. We will hand over to Mitch and Christine in the commentary box

:10:20. > :10:26.to talk us through Max getting that remarkable silver medal on floor.

:10:27. > :10:32.Remarkable it was really. He has had a series of tests over the past days

:10:33. > :10:39.and kept his stamina, kept his focus and produced a great floor.

:10:40. > :10:51.This is a great start. He twists so efficiently. A stylish gymnast, as

:10:52. > :10:56.well, Christine. He is. He hauls had that flair on the floor -- he has

:10:57. > :11:02.always had that flair on the floor. He has worked extremely hard to pick

:11:03. > :11:06.up the other apparatus to become the great all-rounder he is. I think

:11:07. > :11:12.even though Max would have been disappointed yesterday to have made

:11:13. > :11:18.a mistake and not have got the medal, I think he hasn't had a great

:11:19. > :11:23.year. He suffered a little bit with ill-health and it's just not been an

:11:24. > :11:28.easy year for him. So to come off the back of a year that hasn't been

:11:29. > :11:34.perfect and actually come so close to the world champion I think it

:11:35. > :11:50.will have given him a bit of a boost. Santana, joyfully, takes to

:11:51. > :11:53.the medal podium. The complete showman, isn't he, Mitch?

:11:54. > :12:01.Definitely. Played to the crowd and so he should. A great performance.

:12:02. > :12:11.Representing Great Britain, Max Whitlock! Here he is, the young man,

:12:12. > :12:14.he served himself and his country very well indeed in that final to

:12:15. > :12:45.take a silver medal. Max Whitlock for Great Britain takes

:12:46. > :12:51.the silver. The winner of the gold medal and 2015 men's floor world

:12:52. > :12:56.champion, representing Japan, Kenzo Shirai. Was it ever really in doubt?

:12:57. > :13:03.I don't think so. MrTwister and MrPopular. Very unassuming young man

:13:04. > :13:12.with superb technique and a wonderful twisting repertoire. A

:13:13. > :13:19.worthy world champion. Fantastic floor work from these three young

:13:20. > :13:33.men and Kenzo Shirai comes out top with a gold medal well deserved.

:13:34. > :14:03.The first of five gold medals to be presented today goes around the neck

:14:04. > :14:13.of Kenzo Shirai. I remember him as a gymnast, presenting the medals.

:14:14. > :15:11.Ladies and gentlemen, the national anthem of Japan.

:15:12. > :15:21.Kenzo, arigato! A lovely smile, we have said before, he is a very

:15:22. > :15:29.unassuming man. A third gold medal for Japan. They have been at the top

:15:30. > :15:33.in the team, in the individual, now the first apparatus medal goes to

:15:34. > :15:40.Japan. Really showing their dominance at this championships.

:15:41. > :15:54.Gold to Kenzo Shirai. Silver for Max Whitlock. Santana takes the bronze.

:15:55. > :16:05.And what a floor final it was. Max Whitlock will refocus for the

:16:06. > :16:09.pommel, which will be up shortly. With two British gymnast in that

:16:10. > :16:14.final, we have dimensioned Dan Purvis as well, who finished in

:16:15. > :16:19.fifth. That is it for finals for him, but what a World Championships

:16:20. > :16:24.is as bad. Definitely. He can walk away with his head held high, he has

:16:25. > :16:29.not made a single mistake, he has been amazing individually and for

:16:30. > :16:34.the team. What a World Championships it has been for him. To put in these

:16:35. > :16:38.consistent 15 scores, that is so important of the world stage. It is

:16:39. > :16:41.important not only for himself but for the British team. He really put

:16:42. > :16:47.in the effort for the silver medal for the team. In the Rio games, they

:16:48. > :16:50.are going to be looking for consistency and difficulty, and

:16:51. > :16:54.Andorra ticks both of those boxes. Does he have quite a bit of fuel

:16:55. > :17:01.left in the tank? Yes. He has been working for some upgrades on the

:17:02. > :17:06.floor, they weren't quite ready, working really hard so he can push

:17:07. > :17:09.into the medals. Talking of the rest of the British team, let's have a

:17:10. > :17:17.look ahead to the finals on their way this afternoon.

:17:18. > :17:27.Ruby Harrold will compete in the uneven bars finals. Bronze in the

:17:28. > :17:31.Commonwealth Games, and an impressive team final routine. Max

:17:32. > :17:34.Whitlock refocusing after the silver on floor, going for gold in the

:17:35. > :17:41.pommel final. The biggest challenge will be Louis Smith. How difficult

:17:42. > :17:46.will he go? How fit is he, after this remarkable comeback he has had?

:17:47. > :17:53.Time will tell. It won't be long before the boys are out in the

:17:54. > :17:58.arena. I think Louis is going to be feeling, well, he will be as relaxed

:17:59. > :18:03.as he possibly can be under this kind of pleasure. Yes, since Louis

:18:04. > :18:08.has made his comeback, he has seemed the most calm and chilled out he has

:18:09. > :18:12.ever been, and his form has been fantastic. Dan mentioned he has had

:18:13. > :18:16.ten competitions this year and his lowest score has been 15.3. That

:18:17. > :18:22.gives them confidence. His advantage is he has not done as many

:18:23. > :18:26.competitions as the rest, so he is fresh. So you could be joined? You

:18:27. > :18:31.are the only world champion we have got. It was a title that changed

:18:32. > :18:35.British gymnastics as we knew it. Just before this competition, we

:18:36. > :18:47.delved into the archives and went back to that golden year of 2006.

:18:48. > :18:53.What do you remember about this bit? Not a lot. You kind of go into

:18:54. > :19:19.autopilot. A very big series. Two releases.

:19:20. > :19:24.This is the one that came to grief last time. She went for broke! , on,

:19:25. > :19:31.she must keep her concentration. More big skills to come. -- come on.

:19:32. > :19:39.This was where we had a few problems last time. Full pirouette into the

:19:40. > :19:49.dismount. SQL twisting double back, wow! Fantastic. -- full twisting

:19:50. > :19:54.double back. Yes! The relief in your face as you start waving to the

:19:55. > :19:55.crowd there... It was because everyone else around me was so

:19:56. > :20:09.nervous. Very impressive still. Obviously you knew you had done your

:20:10. > :20:15.best here. The weight must have been horrendous. That's the hardest part,

:20:16. > :20:20.waiting for your score, because there is nothing you can do. Did you

:20:21. > :20:31.think you had got it at this point? No. She has scored 16.2! Fantastic!

:20:32. > :20:38.How about that? Britain's Beth Tweddle is in the lead! Did you

:20:39. > :20:43.think there are could beat you? I knew if she did her normal routine,

:20:44. > :20:48.she couldn't, but you never believe it until you see the scores. Were

:20:49. > :20:56.you watching really closely? Yes! Everyone was. There's the score, she

:20:57. > :21:01.is in third, so hey, we have a world champion!

:21:02. > :21:08.It's the dream, to be world champion. There's nobody on the

:21:09. > :21:12.planet better than you. When you hear that news, you have got the

:21:13. > :21:17.flag... I don't know what I was going! I just ran around with it.

:21:18. > :21:27.That is what you do when you are world champion! I cringe watching

:21:28. > :21:32.this! Why? We have to applaud. The flag didn't leave me all night, I

:21:33. > :21:38.took it on the podium. Amazing. There you are with the world gold

:21:39. > :21:42.around your neck. How did that compared to the first medal you won

:21:43. > :21:52.as a little gymnast? So much more special. I think because no one had

:21:53. > :21:54.ever done it. Do I sing, do I not? I chose not to, I think. Absolutely

:21:55. > :22:10.tremendous. Unbelievable. There you are, Beth, at 21! A

:22:11. > :22:16.youngster! How did that moment change your life? Two other world

:22:17. > :22:20.titles followed. I wouldn't say it changed my life. Between myself and

:22:21. > :22:24.my coach, it changed the belief. A lot of people said we could win a

:22:25. > :22:28.world title but until you get the medal around your neck, you don't

:22:29. > :22:31.really believe it. For the whole of British gymnastics, the younger

:22:32. > :22:36.generation coming through, they were thinking, it has always been Russia,

:22:37. > :22:40.Romania, America, and now suddenly British gymnastics is able to pick

:22:41. > :22:45.up a medal. So hopefully a lot of youngsters were inspired to follow

:22:46. > :22:49.in my footsteps. You didn't just do it on one piece of apparatus. There

:22:50. > :22:54.are only four in women still aspects, and to be world champion on

:22:55. > :23:01.two of them... When I did it in London, it was a surprise. I wanted

:23:02. > :23:05.to come away with a bar medal and I crashed out in qualification. I

:23:06. > :23:09.remember thinking, why do I do gymnastics and put myself through

:23:10. > :23:12.this disappointment? But I ended up in the floor vinyl, went up first

:23:13. > :23:18.and my name stayed at the top of the board. -- floor final. It was the

:23:19. > :23:28.best feeling, it almost meant more to me. Maria Paseka takes gold, Hong

:23:29. > :23:33.Un-jong, a silver medal. And Simone Biles takes the bronze back to the

:23:34. > :23:36.USA. She played it a little safe on the second vault to come third.

:23:37. > :23:49.There is the new world champion. Ladies and gentlemen, the National

:23:50. > :25:17.anthem of the Russian Federation. Maria Paseka vaults her way to the

:25:18. > :25:22.world title. Glasgow, show your appreciation for our World

:25:23. > :25:25.Championship medallists! No doubt you have been inspired by what you

:25:26. > :25:31.are watching, and if you would like to get involved in sport in general,

:25:32. > :25:35.have a look at our website. Lots of information on there on how you can

:25:36. > :25:41.get involved. Every athlete has that certain person, maybe sees a certain

:25:42. > :25:44.moment, that makes them feel like they can achieve greatness. And here

:25:45. > :25:54.is Louis Smith's inspiration. My idol in gymnastics was a Romanian

:25:55. > :25:58.gymnast. He was exceptional on the pommel horse. He scored a perfect

:25:59. > :26:07.ten back in the day, I remember watching him. He has got a ten! The

:26:08. > :26:13.first time since this has been introduced. Look at his face! I

:26:14. > :26:19.idolised this guy, I wanted to be like him. I did the Glasgow Grand

:26:20. > :26:27.Prix at 16 years old, competing against him. I'm a member doing this

:26:28. > :26:31.competition and looking over and thinking, that's him. -- I remember

:26:32. > :26:43.doing this competition. I couldn't believe it. I qualified for the

:26:44. > :26:47.final with Krisztian Berki and Urzica. I remember standing on the

:26:48. > :26:52.podium, and right then, it changed. It went from being a fan boy to

:26:53. > :26:59.suddenly... I can't wait to beat you. I went from not believing I

:27:00. > :27:06.could compete against them to suddenly, I really want to kick your

:27:07. > :27:11.backside. It was so surreal. Someone I idolised, a role model on TV, to

:27:12. > :27:18.suddenly I almost beat him at 16 years old. It was crazy. And Louis

:27:19. > :27:24.has continued to beat some of the finest gymnasts in the world.

:27:25. > :27:29.Exciting news, well, it isn't for Krisztian Berki, the Olympic

:27:30. > :27:37.champion hasn't qualified for this final. So this could well be Louis

:27:38. > :27:41.'s chance, and Max's chance as well. Louis Smith had a moment in the team

:27:42. > :27:47.final, he muscled through and stayed on, and that is the key on this

:27:48. > :27:50.piece. Definitely. He went for a more difficult routine in the team

:27:51. > :27:53.final. It was good for him to get that routine under his belt in this

:27:54. > :28:00.arena so he was fully confident ahead of the final. Beth, it is

:28:01. > :28:04.always that conundrum of difficulty versus execution, because we know

:28:05. > :28:10.that Macs can do a very difficult routine as well. Usually in finals,

:28:11. > :28:15.gymnasts will tend to raise their game. Louis is going in the middle

:28:16. > :28:18.of the field so he will have to decide whether to go for the more

:28:19. > :28:24.difficult routine. Personally, I think he will go for broke, he has

:28:25. > :28:28.nothing to lose. Max is at the end so he can decide which routine to

:28:29. > :28:37.put out there. The first gymnast coming out is the European silver

:28:38. > :28:45.medallist, the, from Armenia. He is more than handy. Merdinyan. He has

:28:46. > :28:48.been inconsistent in the past but he did a really nice routine in

:28:49. > :28:58.qualification, so interesting to see what he can do here today. Vernyayev

:28:59. > :29:02.will be next up. He did not have much fun in the all-around on the

:29:03. > :29:08.pommel. But if he hits, he is going to be hard to beat. He is going to

:29:09. > :29:12.be hard to beat, but having had the disappointment last night, he will

:29:13. > :29:16.want to rectify it. He is one to watch. He has strength of

:29:17. > :29:19.character, he has come back after disappointment and won world

:29:20. > :29:26.titles, so he is a dark horse. And he posted a 7 difficulty in

:29:27. > :29:31.qualification. He is handy on the pommel, if he can stay on, he will

:29:32. > :29:47.come away with a big score. Some big guns in this, it's not going to be

:29:48. > :29:51.an easy final to win. This is the US champion, Naddour. Max will have

:29:52. > :29:57.watched all of these gymnasts burst, or maybe he will be training and not

:29:58. > :30:07.paying any attention at all. That is your tactic. -- gymnasts first.

:30:08. > :30:12.Scott will be keeping an eye on it for Max I think he will look at the

:30:13. > :30:18.presentation and then be back in the gym taking his mind off what

:30:19. > :30:24.everyone else is doing. What a competition the Japanese gymnasts

:30:25. > :30:27.are having. He was alongside Uchimura, who won his sixth

:30:28. > :30:31.consecutive title. This man definitely wants a medal hanging

:30:32. > :30:36.around his neck at the end of today. Who knows what colour it will

:30:37. > :30:44.be? He knows what it is like to medal at this level. Louis Smith,

:30:45. > :30:48.looking calm. He looks really calm, looks like he is enjoying every

:30:49. > :30:56.moment. Relaxed, and that is good to see. He has the gloves on, to keep

:30:57. > :31:00.his hands warm, Beth. It is very important. Because he is in the

:31:01. > :31:03.middle of the pack, he has to decide, does he go back to the

:31:04. > :31:07.warm-up gym, does he stay out? By the look of the gloves, he has

:31:08. > :31:13.chosen to stay in the arena and get the atmosphere. Another world and

:31:14. > :31:19.Olympic finalist, Vid Hidvegi. He is quite used to this competition. He

:31:20. > :31:23.went to college in Leeds. He competed alongside us as a guest in

:31:24. > :31:24.the British Championships for a couple of years, so we know him very

:31:25. > :31:34.well. Not the highest start value, but

:31:35. > :31:40.what he does is very clean, so he can expect in the low 15s. Someone

:31:41. > :31:47.to keep an eye on, Robert Seligman. He was fifth in last year's worlds,

:31:48. > :31:52.fourth in the Euros. If the others crumble, he is consistent. There is

:31:53. > :31:56.always that chance. That is what it is about in the final, if you can

:31:57. > :32:01.put in a good routine and stay on the pommel, you are going to be in

:32:02. > :32:08.with a chance. He is back. Is he ready? Has he had enough time to

:32:09. > :32:14.calm down since both -- since the silver medal on floor? The most

:32:15. > :32:20.almighty roar for Max Whitlock. It is great to be here. In everyday

:32:21. > :32:24.life now, people are able to name these British gymnasts. Back in the

:32:25. > :32:29.day, you would not even have known if a British gymnast was competing,

:32:30. > :32:31.but nowadays people are following the team's progress and they are

:32:32. > :32:43.able to tell you what they are up to. The preparation is over.

:32:44. > :32:53.The stage is set. The question is will Beth be joined as the only

:32:54. > :32:57.gymnast to have a world title? We are going to hand down to Mitch and

:32:58. > :33:01.Christine in the commentary box. What a final in store, the men's

:33:02. > :33:08.pommel horse. Mitch and Christine, over to you. Lots of British

:33:09. > :33:15.interest, of course. This is the most precarious of the men's

:33:16. > :33:20.apparatus. Harutyun Merdinyan from Armenia. Of course, no warm-up in

:33:21. > :33:27.the arena. They warmed up a couple of hours ago. They have to come in

:33:28. > :33:42.cold. He just had a little feel of the handles. And that's all. It's a

:33:43. > :33:54.huge test. First up in a world pommels final.

:33:55. > :34:05.Nice travelling scissor with half turn. Unusually simple start but he

:34:06. > :34:16.is into a rhythm very quickly. Good circles on one handle. Triple

:34:17. > :34:34.Russian. Three times around with a straight body. Likes his triple

:34:35. > :34:43.Russians this young man. Up he goes. Nicely through to go first up. Clean

:34:44. > :34:47.and efficient. Well done. Well, that looked to me quite a solid

:34:48. > :34:52.challenge. Might not be the most difficult but it was not shoddy. The

:34:53. > :34:54.difficulty score was 6. 7 in qualification so it's right up

:34:55. > :35:01.there. He didn't give much away at all. Absolutely. The trick is to go

:35:02. > :35:05.through on an apparatus like this, that's an advantage. Definite

:35:06. > :35:15.feather in his cap to go through as first up. Now the others have to

:35:16. > :35:20.watch it. A difficult job from the guy who qualified second. Got 15.

:35:21. > :35:27.466 in qualification. I would have thought he would be towards that,

:35:28. > :35:31.wouldn't you? His style was great. The transitions between the circles

:35:32. > :35:35.and the single leg work and the flairs were all very good. Very

:35:36. > :35:44.efficient indeed. He has to be around 15. 3. Is there a little bit

:35:45. > :35:50.of a hesitation on the dismount? Just paused slightly. That can make

:35:51. > :35:53.a difference. They like to see it swing all the way through, almost

:35:54. > :35:58.accelerated to the end. I think that was a good routine and certainly as

:35:59. > :36:04.first man up a great job. The pressure is on the others.

:36:05. > :36:15.Absolutely. That's when it's great to be first, when it all goes well!

:36:16. > :36:19.Oh, yes. What does the European silver medallist - what has he

:36:20. > :36:26.achieved here? Posted a difficulty score of 6. 7. He has matched that

:36:27. > :36:34.with difficulty. 15. 5. It's a big score. A great start. First up, a

:36:35. > :36:44.big score. The others really have to be on song here. On that difficulty

:36:45. > :36:53.theme, Oleg Verniaiev put up a seven difficulty in qualification. He can

:36:54. > :37:01.swing pommel horse, I tell you that. Light, quick, accurate. Great in the

:37:02. > :37:10.handstand. Nice little undercut to get into the second handstand.

:37:11. > :37:20.A little hesitation there. You have to keep the swing. Triple Russian

:37:21. > :37:26.between the handles, not a lot of room to do that skill.

:37:27. > :37:37.Great on one handle. There is the rushen on one handle. Back in,

:37:38. > :37:44.that's so difficult. -- Russian. Oh! You could see there, as he started

:37:45. > :37:51.that treble, but well rescued. He has his form back. Into the

:37:52. > :37:56.handstand. Lost the body shape, stayed on that end, but still built

:37:57. > :37:59.a sufficient difficulty dismount. Yeah, what a recovery. Whether or

:38:00. > :38:04.not he will get that seven value on the difficulty we will have to wait

:38:05. > :38:08.and see, but execution a few 10th, Chris. He just looked like a

:38:09. > :38:13.different gymnast to last night. We saw him in the all round last night

:38:14. > :38:17.when he could easily have been up there fourth on the pommel horse, he

:38:18. > :38:22.really looked so much more secure today. He has a lovely technique. I

:38:23. > :38:26.was really supplied to see this happen. -- really surprised to see

:38:27. > :38:31.this happen. Shoulders on the wrong side. He had to break form to keep

:38:32. > :38:34.contact. A big pike to get back in. The judges won't miss these things.

:38:35. > :38:41.But very much worth breaking form in order to stay on, Mitch. Oh, yes!

:38:42. > :38:49.Three 10ths against one whole mark. No brainer. There quick thinking

:38:50. > :38:57.because the body wasn't straight enough to travel and twist

:38:58. > :39:05.efficiently. Did well. 15. 5 the score to beat. I think he will be

:39:06. > :39:09.lucky to get that. I think so. His qualification score was 15. 15.

:39:10. > :39:15.Well, we will see what the judges come up with. They've to be super

:39:16. > :39:19.strict today and all be in line with their scores. Let's keep an eye on

:39:20. > :39:24.that difficulty score, as well. And see if they've deducted on that. The

:39:25. > :39:31.discussion will be whether the break of form was bad enough to take away

:39:32. > :39:41.the value of the difficulty. That's the discussion. Well, they've stuck

:39:42. > :39:48.with a seven. He gets 15. 266. Merdinyan still leads from Armenia.

:39:49. > :39:51.Alexander Naddour from the USA approaches the pommel horse. Been

:39:52. > :39:57.watching this guy all week training, in the same group as the Netherlands

:39:58. > :40:05.team, and he really is a good pommel worker. The United States have

:40:06. > :40:11.lacked those in the past. Lovely handstand. Good undercut into the

:40:12. > :40:17.second handstand. Slight lack of rhythm there.

:40:18. > :40:31.So much time on the one handle combinations, that's very unusual.

:40:32. > :40:31.Spindle catches so many out, but not him, not today.

:40:32. > :40:46.Oh! He did well to recover after that

:40:47. > :40:54.slight break of form. But again you cannot afford to give anything away.

:40:55. > :40:58.Really pacy routine. Like you say, Mitch, almost because he had such a

:40:59. > :41:07.good pacy routine he could cover it up and move into the next thing.

:41:08. > :41:11.Pretty impressive. He seemed to have so much time on one handle. The

:41:12. > :41:17.whole routine flowed very well. When you make a giant treble to set up a

:41:18. > :41:21.giant treble you have to keep form, get your shoulders over the right

:41:22. > :41:26.side of the handles. The gymnasts can feel when they need to split,

:41:27. > :41:33.feel when they need to get that extra little bit of swing, by fair

:41:34. > :41:40.means or foul. Look at this on the one handle. So much time. Not a lot

:41:41. > :41:48.of space there. He makes it. He is a good pommel worker.

:41:49. > :41:59.A little brush of the legs there. A bend of the knees. They're all

:42:00. > :42:17.little deductions from the judge's pen.

:42:18. > :42:29.The discussion now... Did they see it, he is saying? Yes, they did is

:42:30. > :42:36.the answer. 15. 2. Naddour in third as it stands at the moment.

:42:37. > :42:44.Five gymnasts left to go in this world pommel horse final. Kazuma

:42:45. > :42:53.Kaya is the next gymnast. Louis Smith is next after this.

:42:54. > :42:58.What impresses me about him is the sheer joy of being here and

:42:59. > :43:09.competing. Let's see if he can retain it over the next 40 seconds

:43:10. > :43:15.or so. Treble, in scissor. Not spectacular lash. Keeps the swing

:43:16. > :43:28.and rhythm. -- spectacular. Handstand. Nicely done.

:43:29. > :43:34.He is making a combination now. The difficulty is there. He did that

:43:35. > :43:45.treble without a break of form. And again. Slight pike on the end. He is

:43:46. > :43:49.going well. This will be the break into the handstand sequence. Safely

:43:50. > :43:54.through. He is up there. Look at him. He is celebrating again. He is

:43:55. > :43:59.loving it. A mature performance for an 18-year-old. He's loved this

:44:00. > :44:08.championships. You can see a real showman. Full of enthusiasm. Quite

:44:09. > :44:15.different to the usual demeanour of the Japanese gymnasts. Yes, this was

:44:16. > :44:19.relatively simple in the start and the pick up. Then he got into the

:44:20. > :44:30.real business of the routine after this handstand. Did the very

:44:31. > :44:38.difficult move. Some marks are lost when you pick up from this work into

:44:39. > :44:52.the circles. He is not fully extended but it's a clean, efficient

:44:53. > :44:57.swing. Makes the treble. A D dismount with a little flourish,

:44:58. > :45:01.as well. He was in control. Well done, young man. When we say they

:45:02. > :45:05.have to include the ten best elements, they have to include the

:45:06. > :45:10.dismount in that, so it has to be of a high level. If you want to just

:45:11. > :45:18.get off with something very simple, you start - the difficulty score

:45:19. > :45:28.will be down. And you get a contact deduction. 15. 5. Kaya goes into

:45:29. > :45:41.joint lead with Merdinyan, sharing gold at the moment. Well done, young

:45:42. > :45:46.man. The stage is set, Matt. Well, here is the current European

:45:47. > :45:54.champion. Third at the worlds back in 2011. Double Olympic medallist.

:45:55. > :46:00.He looks calm. He looks ready. He is a man who can swing almost

:46:01. > :46:04.slowly and deliberately. Look at that.

:46:05. > :46:07.A good start. Slight delay on the pick up. Second

:46:08. > :46:20.handstand is fine. Precision and time. The Russian was

:46:21. > :46:37.great. So easy to lose with, but he

:46:38. > :46:46.doesn't! -- to lose rhythm. Safely through the Wu.

:46:47. > :46:56.The handstand sequence. A small delay, art makes sure of the

:46:57. > :47:01.pirouette! A superb dismount, a great routine. He is in the

:47:02. > :47:09.running, for sure. Well done! That was tremendous. He used all of his

:47:10. > :47:15.experience there. What a performance for Great Britain's Louis Smith!

:47:16. > :47:20.What is so impressive is the time he seems to have to do it. It was paced

:47:21. > :47:27.beautifully, it was precise, it was rhythmical. That was great to watch.

:47:28. > :47:36.That's the best performance I've seen him do. For me, he looks like a

:47:37. > :47:39.true master of the apparatus now. The way he came down from the

:47:40. > :47:46.handstand into the flares, the power he generated in the hips... The

:47:47. > :47:52.accuracy on one handle. The transition here, that's beautiful.

:47:53. > :48:03.You remember those flares, Matt, I'm sure. Not giving too many full marks

:48:04. > :48:10.away. The arm flies up, that's the flourish they all want to achieve. I

:48:11. > :48:16.have got so much time, Mr Judge, take something away from that if you

:48:17. > :48:21.dare. Surely it has to be a medal? I reckon. Fantastic work, the ultimate

:48:22. > :48:40.performer. It's a huge score! He is in the lead at the moment. The

:48:41. > :48:47.look on his face... I told you I could do it! A terrific score and a

:48:48. > :48:52.huge challenge for those to come. Three left to go, Max Whitlock is

:48:53. > :49:00.one of them, but that is a very tough score to beat. This one will

:49:01. > :49:10.be going right down to the wire. The Vid Hidvegi, 29 years old. He is

:49:11. > :49:15.capable of more than 15.16, which he qualified, but quite a lumpy start.

:49:16. > :49:22.You need to be smooth and clean. Lovely extension. To achieve that on

:49:23. > :49:25.one handle is impressive. Quick through the Russian. Quick through

:49:26. > :49:31.the spin. Triple Russian. The body has to be

:49:32. > :49:49.kept straight. Up and back, Mr Magyar invented

:49:50. > :50:00.those moves. A heavy delay, but he rescued it. A good routine from

:50:01. > :50:04.Hidvegi. A little smile. He had a lot of pressure on him after having

:50:05. > :50:12.watched Louis Smith's phenomenal performance. Many might have wilted

:50:13. > :50:18.under the intensity of the crowd. But no, an experienced professional

:50:19. > :50:24.gymnast. He did a good job. The swing was light once he got going,

:50:25. > :50:31.he had a lumpy start. The judges have been quite heavy on this. The

:50:32. > :50:38.spin takes a lot of practice, to extend from it. Some lovely touches.

:50:39. > :50:44.That hesitation will cost him at least three tenths.

:50:45. > :50:59.The arch in the handstand would do him huge credit. -- won' t.

:51:00. > :51:09.He has been in the shadow of Krisztian Berki for so long, who

:51:10. > :51:10.didn't even make this final. Louis Smith, the current leader, two left

:51:11. > :51:39.to go. Merdinyan and Kaya share the silver

:51:40. > :51:43.at the moment. Robert Seligman from Croatia is the third highest

:51:44. > :51:50.qualifier. He is the only gymnast who stands between Great Britain

:51:51. > :51:51.having a world champion, because Max Whitlock is the last gymnast to go

:51:52. > :52:04.after him. A very elegant gymnast. Swings with

:52:05. > :52:12.extension, but you need to attack it. And he lumped his way through

:52:13. > :52:17.that, a deduction on the travel. The extension at the front of the swing,

:52:18. > :52:18.and the spindle keeping the extension makes this routine very

:52:19. > :52:33.special. Shape. He lost the style. To stay extended on the difficult

:52:34. > :52:42.one-handed combinations is a risk. It did not pay off this time. Most

:52:43. > :52:44.people, Matt, play it safe there and don't really go for the extended

:52:45. > :53:03.shape. He's a great stylist, you know. Look

:53:04. > :53:10.at that, love it. Super. Travel up, travel back, lovely shape. Triple

:53:11. > :53:19.Russian. He complains it with the dismount. -- he completes it. I'm

:53:20. > :53:21.fortunate. Like you said, one of the cleanest performances, in terms of

:53:22. > :53:28.while he was circling. Beautiful style. A great distance between his

:53:29. > :53:34.body and the handles, which is what you are looking for. He is a great

:53:35. > :53:39.technician. I feel sorry that his technique wasn't rewarded on this

:53:40. > :53:48.occasion. Throwing the hips forward, fully extended, travels forward and

:53:49. > :53:52.backwards. Lovely style. The dismount is a Delta level, but he

:53:53. > :53:56.needs to get the legs over the 30 degrees horizontal and I don't think

:53:57. > :54:06.he does it. -- the dismount is a D. Maybe. Shame.

:54:07. > :54:16.Will there be a bit of tussling from the judges, before the score is out?

:54:17. > :54:20.Such an experienced gymnast, 29 years old. We have commentated on

:54:21. > :54:33.him for many a year. Many. What does the pommel have in store

:54:34. > :54:43.for Max Whitlock here? Louis Smith will be watching very, very closely.

:54:44. > :54:50.Max put in a score of 16.1 in the all-around competition. Louis has a

:54:51. > :54:54.score of 16.03. I can remember the days when the British team used to

:54:55. > :55:00.approach the pommel horse with fear and trepidation. How that has

:55:01. > :55:08.changed. Make your witnesses your strengths and you will be a

:55:09. > :55:11.champion. -- your weaknesses. That confirms that Great Britain have a

:55:12. > :55:20.world champion, but which gymnast will it go to? Max Whitlock whiz his

:55:21. > :55:29.-- with his 20th routine of these championships. They could share

:55:30. > :55:35.gold. Max Whitlock for Great Britain in this world pommel final. That

:55:36. > :55:37.hesitation will cost him three. There won't be many more if he is on

:55:38. > :55:56.song. Lovely pace and rhythm. He skipped through that. Lovely

:55:57. > :56:01.pick-up. The spindle was quick and extended. This is good work. Travel

:56:02. > :56:10.up, travel back, keep stretching, young man. No break of form,

:56:11. > :56:15.straight into the triple Russian. He is up into the dismount series,

:56:16. > :56:21.makes the pirouette! What a superb challenge. Just the tiny fault at

:56:22. > :56:29.the start, but that is a challenge, and that is phenomenal. Well, it

:56:30. > :56:34.really is a battle of the Britons. Who is it going to be? It's going to

:56:35. > :56:39.be very, very close. It will certainly need all of those expert

:56:40. > :56:46.judges to prise them apart, but what a fantastic team performance.

:56:47. > :56:49.Unbelievable. It has to be 16 plus, just the error at the start. Look at

:56:50. > :57:07.the camaraderie between those two. 16.03 is the score to beat. The

:57:08. > :57:11.speed he went through was rages. The pick-up from the flares into the

:57:12. > :57:17.extended circle sets him apart. -- was courageous.

:57:18. > :57:26.Very unusual, very, very impressive. It's going to be so close... How

:57:27. > :57:35.great to see them both work so well. No one capitulated. They fought to

:57:36. > :57:42.the end. The score to beat for silver is 15.5. So you think it is

:57:43. > :57:48.Britain one and two? Oh, yes. I would love to see a shared gold. Not

:57:49. > :57:57.quite the aplomb at the end that Louis had. It's going to be close.

:57:58. > :58:02.He already has a silver to his name today, he got a silver in the team

:58:03. > :58:07.final as well. Is this his golden moment?

:58:08. > :58:23.Max Whitlock is the pommel horse world champion! He beats Lewis Smith

:58:24. > :58:32.into silver. What a story for this young man. Silver in the all-around,

:58:33. > :58:42.silver on their macro and now he is a world champion on the pommel

:58:43. > :58:51.horse. -- silver on floor. In the past the pommel was a problem for

:58:52. > :58:55.Great Britain. Not now. A fantastic performance for both Brits. Louis

:58:56. > :58:58.finishes with the silver, but Max Whitlock did not collapse under the

:58:59. > :59:03.pressure and produced a fantastic routine. What a championship this

:59:04. > :59:14.has been for our British gymnasts. Louis Smith, gracious in second. Max

:59:15. > :59:21.Whitlock, victorious in gold. And you know what? He did a routine with

:59:22. > :59:28.0.1 more difficulty and that is what won it for him, the courage to go

:59:29. > :59:37.for that extra bit. Well spotted, Chris. He needed that difficulty.

:59:38. > :59:44.The Armenian Merdinyan takes blonde. He was first up, he had a long

:59:45. > :59:53.wait. -- takes bronze. A joint bronze with Kaya. What a special

:59:54. > :59:59.moment for Team GB. You can almost see his body sagging with relief

:00:00. > :00:06.there. Let the shoulders drop, deep breath, you have done a fabulous

:00:07. > :00:10.job, old chap. And Louis did brilliantly as well. What a

:00:11. > :00:15.performance. I don't think Max can believe it. He can hear the roar but

:00:16. > :00:21.this will feel like a dream moment. Beth Tweddle knows what it feels

:00:22. > :00:28.like to achieve this accolade. Beth, you are now joined by Max

:00:29. > :00:41.Whitlock. There is confirmation that he is the world champion.

:00:42. > :00:49.Beth, if we can just reflect on this. Max almost looks stunned. He

:00:50. > :00:52.does. I don't think Max sometimes realises how much of an impression

:00:53. > :00:57.he is having on these competitions and he knew what toad do. I don't

:00:58. > :01:01.know whether he will have seen Louis score when he came out and it was a

:01:02. > :01:06.huge score to beat. He scored 16. 1 yesterday. He did his routine and

:01:07. > :01:10.you can see the relief. As soon as the cameras came to him his

:01:11. > :01:13.shoulders like... Yeah, finally done it! Scott, as well, his coach, it

:01:14. > :01:17.would have been hard for him last night and to come back - I texted

:01:18. > :01:21.them both and said you will come back fighting tomorrow. They've done

:01:22. > :01:25.it. Well, we are going to go straight down now and talk to Max.

:01:26. > :01:30.David is with him. I am with the new world champion.

:01:31. > :01:34.Max Whitlock, and the new silver medallist, Louis Smith. Max, world

:01:35. > :01:37.champion. How does that sound? It's unbelievable. I never thought, you

:01:38. > :01:41.know, if I ever dreamed of hitting that moment, I never thought I would

:01:42. > :01:46.get emotional but I feel it now. It's unbelievable. To be alongside

:01:47. > :01:50.Louis, you know, done an amazing job with massive 16. Over the moon.

:01:51. > :01:53.Louis, the silver medal but a massive score and there was only

:01:54. > :01:57.really one guy that could possibly beat you today, wasn't there? Yeah,

:01:58. > :02:01.Max, the whole time I have been back I have been playing catch-up to Max.

:02:02. > :02:07.He has proved himself this competition. Unbelievable. For GB,

:02:08. > :02:10.you know, one and two on the pommel horse, having come from the floor,

:02:11. > :02:16.as well. Max has done an unbelievable job. I am so happy.

:02:17. > :02:21.Max, you have done 20 routines now this week. What has it taken out of

:02:22. > :02:27.you? It's taken a lot out of me. My legs on floor were a bit Ely. Happy

:02:28. > :02:31.to push three and the -- Ely and happy to wush through and the

:02:32. > :02:35.support helped me get through. It's been a tough year for you. You have

:02:36. > :02:40.been ill. This is the culmination of a tough year. Yeah, it has been a

:02:41. > :02:45.tough year with glandular fever at the beginning of the year. This

:02:46. > :02:48.makes up for everything. All of that stress, all of everything on the

:02:49. > :02:52.build-up to this, I am absolutely over the moon. I can't believe it.

:02:53. > :02:56.It's history, the first British man to win a gold medal. Yeah, I am

:02:57. > :03:00.speechless to be honest. I can't believe it. It's amazing. For

:03:01. > :03:06.yourself it's been a road back, as well, Louis. A break after London

:03:07. > :03:09.2012. You have come - you are up there again, aren't you? The idea

:03:10. > :03:13.was to prove I am consistent and prove I can be an asset for the

:03:14. > :03:17.team. This is my last competition of the year. Every competition I have

:03:18. > :03:21.been in I have done a clean routine. Every competition I have done first

:03:22. > :03:27.and second place. I am happy, I have done my job. The main goal was

:03:28. > :03:32.qualifying for Rio, done that. I am just so happy to be back and yeah,

:03:33. > :03:37.it's just been crazy. You are both finished the competition now. Max,

:03:38. > :03:40.if I could ask you to sum up for the week for GB, I know you are

:03:41. > :03:44.speechless. It's been historic for everyone. Starting with the silver

:03:45. > :03:51.medal as a team was unbelievable for us. Everyone's literally got such a

:03:52. > :03:54.high off it, and everyone's gone through, with The Adrenalin and gout

:03:55. > :03:59.out there and performed on the day, couldn't have asked for a better

:04:00. > :04:03.championships. You said GB is one of the best nations in the world. We

:04:04. > :04:06.are definitely the best gymnastics nation on pommel horse in the world.

:04:07. > :04:08.What can we add to that? Unbelievable. Congratulations. Thank

:04:09. > :04:22.you very much. Well, humbling to hear them talk.

:04:23. > :04:27.They're so down to earth. Yet what they can achieve physically is

:04:28. > :04:35.just... That word unbelievable is so overused, but in this case it's

:04:36. > :04:39.justified. Unbelievable! And it was. What shined through there was two

:04:40. > :04:43.guys, they're not foes, they're comrades there. They're sharing this

:04:44. > :04:48.triumph. I am sure it will have been just as well the other way around,

:04:49. > :04:53.Chris. I am sure Max would have been just as complimentary if Louis had

:04:54. > :04:59.won gold. Yes, you know, they're team members. They fought together,

:05:00. > :05:03.as they both said, the major reason for this championships was team

:05:04. > :05:06.qualification. Once that was done then it changed. But really team

:05:07. > :05:12.qualification was what it was all about. The focus as a team together

:05:13. > :05:18.was the most important thing. They've held that bond through to

:05:19. > :05:22.this. Ruby Harrold has -- has just been introduced to the crowd. What a

:05:23. > :05:26.treat for all those people who bought a ticket today. Ruby is on

:05:27. > :05:31.the uneven bars, which is the next final we are going to be treated to.

:05:32. > :05:36.I don't know if Beth is around to talk to. As a world champion on

:05:37. > :05:40.bars, Beth, you know what this event is all about. Talk us through what

:05:41. > :05:44.we expect to see here and how the routines are going to work. With the

:05:45. > :05:47.bars you lead a mixture of turning elements and release and catch

:05:48. > :05:51.elements, most gymnasts are connecting a lot of release and

:05:52. > :05:55.catch elements, that's how they'll build up their difficulty. There is

:05:56. > :06:00.a variety of routines that you are going to see. It could be anyone's.

:06:01. > :06:09.There is a lot out there with a similar start value, had a

:06:10. > :06:13.disappointment in the team values. Obviously you have ruby from Great

:06:14. > :06:18.Britain. Her third bar world finals so who knows what could happen

:06:19. > :06:25.today? Russia have had a great individual finals so far.

:06:26. > :06:30.Spiridonova highest qualifier. European champion. She is one to

:06:31. > :06:34.look out for. However, we are going to start with Shang Chunsong from

:06:35. > :06:42.China. Just outside the medals in the all round competition.

:06:43. > :06:55.Very light, slight gymnast. But really dynamic. Look at that.

:06:56. > :07:01.Beautiful clear circle. Back up to the high bar. You link the

:07:02. > :07:08.difficulties together to get the bonus. Here a pirouette series. Two

:07:09. > :07:13.lovely pirouettes into a sky high front somersault. Really builds the

:07:14. > :07:18.difficulty. She was a tiny bit late on that half turn, but a very big

:07:19. > :07:23.high and well landed full twisted double back. That was a solid

:07:24. > :07:30.opening. I would expect her to be towards a 15 for that first routine.

:07:31. > :07:36.Well, she got a 15. 233 in the team final and 15. 15.166 in the all

:07:37. > :07:41.round. So clean, wasn't she? She was. The

:07:42. > :07:51.Chinese gymnasts are very good at the pirouettes. That was lovely and

:07:52. > :07:55.high. That's the flight from the low to the high bar, which is very hard

:07:56. > :08:02.for her because she's a tiny little gymnast. Some of the taller gymnasts

:08:03. > :08:08.make that easier. You can see lovely straight arms on the giant swing.

:08:09. > :08:14.Knees glued together on the full twisting double tuck. I thought she

:08:15. > :08:20.was going to nail it there. Just that little hop to bring it under

:08:21. > :08:24.control. She smiles. She's had a good championships so far. She was

:08:25. > :08:28.impressive in the all round competition. Wasn't one of the

:08:29. > :08:33.gymnasts that had been talked about a lot for the overall title but in

:08:34. > :08:39.the end it came down to that last apparatus and she was fighting for

:08:40. > :08:44.the bronze medal. Technically that routine, the releases were high and

:08:45. > :08:48.clean, the pirouettes were accurate. Everything about it was technically

:08:49. > :09:05.super. Not very much wrong with it at all. A great job. Interestingly

:09:06. > :09:18.in team qualification they struggled. Just dips below the 15.

:09:19. > :09:28.So, that's the benchmark. Sophie Scheder.

:09:29. > :09:36.5th in last year's World Championships. Renowned gymnast for

:09:37. > :09:45.her uneven bar work. Lovely stoop in and out. And a stoop. They're very

:09:46. > :09:52.difficult when they don't put the feet on. From The Stoop again. Here

:09:53. > :09:57.we go, half turn from that stoop into the super high, front

:09:58. > :10:04.somersault. If they time them right they can really fly and that is

:10:05. > :10:09.really impressive. A little bit of a quiet half turn. Before the

:10:10. > :10:14.dismount. Full twisting. Oh! What a shame. She buckled at the knees

:10:15. > :10:19.there. It was a great first half that routine. Then the last half had

:10:20. > :10:29.about three moves that were of no value before the dismount. Sort of

:10:30. > :10:35.petered out. It was a clear buckle on the dismount. It's hard to

:10:36. > :10:44.appreciate how much energy they burn in that routine. That was lovely.

:10:45. > :10:54.Straight back down with the half turn. Those are the two devalue

:10:55. > :11:00.elements, linked together will give her a bonus. Shoulders really down.

:11:01. > :11:06.She keeps the chin in so that she can see the bar easily before she

:11:07. > :11:12.gets there. Lovely form and extension through the ankles. She's

:11:13. > :11:17.been particularly outstanding on bars. Surprise about the dismount,

:11:18. > :11:25.Mitch. She didn't look as though it was going to be underrotating. No.

:11:26. > :11:30.But that will be at least 0. 8, I think of deductions. Do they class

:11:31. > :11:35.knee contact as a fall? They do. That was close. She just got away

:11:36. > :12:11.with it. The target is still Shang Chunsong

:12:12. > :12:19.from China. Next up Fan Yilin, just 15 at the moment. Even at 15, she's

:12:20. > :12:25.the Chinese champion. Got a bronze at the Asian championships. A 6. 9

:12:26. > :12:40.difficulty in the team final. Stoop to pirouette and similar

:12:41. > :12:45.construction. That's what makes that difficult. Didn't have the upstart

:12:46. > :12:49.or handstand between any of these moves. They've had about five

:12:50. > :12:55.deelements in a row. Here we go again. One turn. Second turn. Third

:12:56. > :13:05.with a hop. Kicks high. Lovely double straight.

:13:06. > :13:11.She packed that routine. No wasted elements. Doesn't give the judges

:13:12. > :13:16.very much to deduct. That was really powerful. There is much more to a

:13:17. > :13:26.routine than just the dismount but it helps if you dismount with that

:13:27. > :13:33.quality. Great. Just a reminder, 14. 9 the score to beat.

:13:34. > :13:41.There is the first pirouette. Straight to the difficult deelement.

:13:42. > :13:51.Straight to another and feet in for another one. It really is the way

:13:52. > :14:01.you combine the work. That was four or five elements all in a row. Look

:14:02. > :14:06.how early she sets up that pirouette. The battle with the guys

:14:07. > :14:10.is to get that sort of efficiency. The coaches in this cycle have been

:14:11. > :14:16.allowed to stand close but for me I think that's interfering with the

:14:17. > :14:24.performance. I am surprised that the judges are allowing it. As

:14:25. > :14:29.intrusively as that the coach stood there. However, it didn't detract

:14:30. > :14:52.from a really good bar routine. There is the current leader eagerly

:14:53. > :15:00.watching the scoreboard. Has the youngster beaten the more

:15:01. > :15:20.experienced gymnast? She has! 15. 366. By a considerable margin.

:15:21. > :15:24.Difficulty of 6. 9. Well, Viktoriia Komova from Russia

:15:25. > :15:30.was the second highest qualifier. She was bars champion back in 2011.

:15:31. > :15:40.She's been European champion, as well. Can she regain that title here

:15:41. > :15:45.today? And Komova one of the great stars of the 2012 Olympics. We

:15:46. > :15:47.haven't seen her on the international scene so recently but

:15:48. > :16:03.that's a lovely stoop. Into this Shaposhnikova with half

:16:04. > :16:15.turned. Straight Jager, she has such a lovely feel on this apparatus.

:16:16. > :16:21.Tkachev, swinging well. I lovely half came dismount. We would love to

:16:22. > :16:29.see her come back strong like this. -- a lovely half turn dismount. The

:16:30. > :16:33.time she had in the air to transfer from one bar to the other,

:16:34. > :16:39.accurate, blighted, beautifully performed. For me, that was the

:16:40. > :16:45.routine so far. Whatever the score, it had lovely pace. I would agree.

:16:46. > :16:56.And she is enormously popular among gymnastic bands. -- fans. She was a

:16:57. > :17:01.fantastic junior for Russia, then had injury problems. Thrilled to see

:17:02. > :17:09.her back working well. Look at the shape. So high. Something very

:17:10. > :17:15.special about that performance. Everything taken to the extreme.

:17:16. > :17:23.Amplitude to the extreme. Never a toe not pointed. Straight into that

:17:24. > :17:32.dismount. That's what we mean about no empty elements. A lovely stoop

:17:33. > :17:35.Tkachev. When you are swinging and catching that high, it is so

:17:36. > :17:42.difficult to kill the swing, but she does that really well. It was her

:17:43. > :17:51.team-mate Spiridonova who posted the highest score in qualification, and

:17:52. > :17:56.that was 15.466. But that was just utterly beautiful. Beyond any

:17:57. > :18:01.textbook. That was something special. It had that marvellous

:18:02. > :18:08.ingredient, magical touch, super performance. That virtuosity you

:18:09. > :18:22.can't teach, that they feel in them. Absolutely. The judges are taking

:18:23. > :18:28.their time. Yilin looking on. The judges in their little booths. A

:18:29. > :18:33.different position for the judges, in this championship, at apparatus

:18:34. > :18:40.height. They have been sacked away from the floor. This will be to do

:18:41. > :18:43.with tolerance, and the difference between the judges from the

:18:44. > :18:50.different countries, this deliberation. It will be. You have

:18:51. > :18:54.two judges doing the difficulty score. They are all experts, but if

:18:55. > :18:59.you have a gymnast in the final, you cannot provide a judge. For

:19:00. > :19:03.instance, it won't be possible for the British judge to judge this

:19:04. > :19:10.final because Ruby Harrold is in it, the same for the Russian judge,

:19:11. > :19:14.because Komova is in it. So you have a different group of judges who

:19:15. > :19:19.don't often see these performers. So it's a different panel, a different

:19:20. > :19:23.type of scoring. We quite often sees cause we don't necessarily expect in

:19:24. > :19:30.finals. What sort of tolerance are we expecting between the head judge

:19:31. > :19:36.and the others? I think the reference judge, the jury, not

:19:37. > :19:40.actually sitting and judging... They have to be within 0.3. If a score

:19:41. > :19:44.comes in that they don't agree with... It is all to do with

:19:45. > :19:51.ensuring it is totally fair. The last thing Komova will want to do is

:19:52. > :20:01.rush them. She will want to get every 10th she can. I mean, where do

:20:02. > :20:03.you deduct from? Every time I see it, I'm amazed at the quality of

:20:04. > :20:18.this work. She actually fell off the bars in

:20:19. > :20:27.the previous competition. Well! Komova goes into the lead alongside

:20:28. > :20:39.Yilin. A joint score at the top. Sharing gold at the moment.

:20:40. > :20:57.Gabby Douglas is back after a long break. Lovely handstand as well. A

:20:58. > :21:04.clean pirouette and a superhigh Tkachev and Pak salto. This is one

:21:05. > :21:09.of my favourite bits, the Endo, the turns are a bit crisp and clean.

:21:10. > :21:14.Although that section was a bit empty, for me. But what a super

:21:15. > :21:19.dismount. Flying through the air. Well, she was the all-around Olympic

:21:20. > :21:24.champion. She took silver in the all-around competition here a few

:21:25. > :21:34.days ago. That is a bid for a medal. So stylish. I think you are right, a

:21:35. > :21:39.huge bid for a medal. I actually think that she's going to be better

:21:40. > :21:44.and better. This is her first competition back out of the USA.

:21:45. > :21:51.Just a little bit untidy legs, the feet were apart on the Tkachev, the

:21:52. > :21:57.toes turned art, but otherwise a very clean performance. The stoop

:21:58. > :22:04.again. Doesn't get the feet in quite so deeply as some of the other

:22:05. > :22:12.gymnasts. This is going to be tough, to pick the difference between these

:22:13. > :22:17.gymnasts. It will be the difficulty score that counts. She just Bentley

:22:18. > :22:25.arms a bit, and those are small reductions in the judges can take.

:22:26. > :22:33.-- she just bent the arms. She scored 15.3 the team final. At the

:22:34. > :22:44.moment the gold medal position is 15.366. It's going to be very, very

:22:45. > :22:48.tight, isn't it? A lovely dismount, though.

:22:49. > :22:58.She floats, doesn't she? Drifts towards the ground. Like I was

:22:59. > :23:03.saying, this is her first competition back since 2012, out of

:23:04. > :23:06.the USA, and I wasn't terribly impressed in the team qualification,

:23:07. > :23:09.but each time I have seen her she has got crisper, looking like she is

:23:10. > :23:29.enjoying being on the stage. Gabby Douglas goes into third spot.

:23:30. > :23:34.Fan Yilin still leading the competition with Spiridonova. Kocian

:23:35. > :23:50.the next to go. The US bars champion. Brought along

:23:51. > :23:55.as a bit of a specialist. The stoop in and out with full turn. She

:23:56. > :24:01.didn't link it, so she will be down on start value. Art nicely and back

:24:02. > :24:09.down. And then she does link very well indeed. -- up nicely. The

:24:10. > :24:16.pirouette and the big Jager. A tiny bit close, with bent arms.

:24:17. > :24:28.The full twisting double back dismount. Another classy routine.

:24:29. > :24:37.She did post a difficulty of 6.6, slightly higher than Gabby Douglas.

:24:38. > :24:43.But a couple of tenths on her. If she had joined it immediately from

:24:44. > :24:47.the pirouette into the stoop Shaposh, she would have got a

:24:48. > :24:53.bonus, so I would not be surprised if it was down 0.1, but we will see.

:24:54. > :24:59.It bears repeating, we have said it so often, but the repetition to get

:25:00. > :25:03.to this level consistently... All of these gymnasts have posted really

:25:04. > :25:10.good routines. The accuracy of the dismount. The repetition in the gym,

:25:11. > :25:16.it it bears repeating how hard these gymnasts worked to produce this

:25:17. > :25:22.quality. You can see, she was a little close there, that will be a

:25:23. > :25:30.deduction from the judges as well. You are right, Mitch, they do these

:25:31. > :25:31.routines day in, day out, they know the moves really well, they know how

:25:32. > :25:48.to put it right if it's going wrong. She's gone into the lead as well!

:25:49. > :25:55.15.366! Three of them sharing the gold at the moment. Have they got

:25:56. > :26:03.enough gold medals! Room for a couple more. China, Russia and the

:26:04. > :26:10.USA, all in top spot as it stands at the moment. And there is another

:26:11. > :26:14.gymnast that could well join them, Spiridonova, who will be next.

:26:15. > :26:20.Wonderful camaraderie between the countries here. Certainly is. This

:26:21. > :26:43.is the current European champion. Daria Spiridonova. Can she got a

:26:44. > :26:50.tiny bit better than 15.366? She did in qualification, so let's just see.

:26:51. > :26:55.A super turn, that was clean. Immediately into the next element.

:26:56. > :27:09.Immediately up again. Lovely clean work. The half turn. A big high

:27:10. > :27:14.piked Jager. A tiny bit short on the swing turn but a very nice pirouette

:27:15. > :27:20.into the full twisting double back. A tiny hop. This is going to be very

:27:21. > :27:28.difficult! A whisker between them! Not another one! They are going to

:27:29. > :27:34.have to widen the podium! For me, it had the edge, you know. The first

:27:35. > :27:40.half, I definitely thought, had the edge. The second half, I thought she

:27:41. > :27:43.made the swing turn a bit short. 6.7 difficulty in qualification, which

:27:44. > :27:49.would be the top we have seen so far. There was a little stutter on

:27:50. > :27:56.dismount as well. The transfer was superb. She did another with half

:27:57. > :28:02.turn which was even more impressive. The transfer with half turn is

:28:03. > :28:08.really quite difficult. The first half of this was almost faultless,

:28:09. > :28:18.really. So confident. Her feet, straight onto the bar. Immediate for

:28:19. > :28:25.the Shap half. I thought she might have been a bit... No, it was quite

:28:26. > :28:32.good. Spot on, the accuracy. That might be the difference. Just the

:28:33. > :28:40.hop. We will see. When I said she had the highest, in fact that is not

:28:41. > :28:48.right. Fan Yilin has posted 6.9 already today. That is the biggest

:28:49. > :28:57.score. Above all below 15.366? No! I don't believe it! Congratulations!

:28:58. > :29:03.15.366! Four of them in top spot! Surely that has never happened

:29:04. > :29:09.before? In all my years, 30 odd, I've never seen anything like that.

:29:10. > :29:15.Incredible. And they are not going to split them, by the way. They are

:29:16. > :29:21.giving four firsts. Oh, dear, oh, dear! I hope Max Whitlock goes up to

:29:22. > :29:29.get his gold medal first, there might not be any left! Ruby Harrold

:29:30. > :29:43.for Great Britain now. She could potentially get 15.366! She scored

:29:44. > :29:50.15.466 in qualification. She has led the team so brilliantly. A full turn

:29:51. > :29:54.in the Pak salto, and a half turn, shooting down into the handstand.

:29:55. > :30:01.Really interesting work. A lovely full pirouette.

:30:02. > :30:22.Beautifully done. Flighty. Neil the dismount. Double front, beautifully

:30:23. > :30:23.performed! -- nail the dismount. This is going to be very close,

:30:24. > :30:38.Chris. It will be tight but she hadn't got

:30:39. > :30:45.quite such a big start value. It's good, but not quite as high. A

:30:46. > :30:53.little bit loose-legged at times, but what an interesting routine.

:30:54. > :30:59.Ambitious. Quite courageous really. And great to be a little bit

:31:00. > :31:03.different. Seen these gymnasts, one of the reasons they can't split them

:31:04. > :31:12.is because their routines are so similar. Yeah. An example of a loss

:31:13. > :31:22.of form. But so much great work. A little bit of polish and she's

:31:23. > :31:27.reraces, I think. -- And she's at the races, I think. Made all her

:31:28. > :31:32.combinations. Didn't have to put in extra upstarts. She does that so

:31:33. > :31:42.well, the hop. Right at the last move. Into handstand, as well. A

:31:43. > :31:53.nice double. Look at that landing. How many times did she releers that?

:31:54. > :32:00.Such a key -- -- rehearse that. A smile from ruby. Goes into 7th. --

:32:01. > :32:07.Ruby. So four number jass in this women's uneven bars final share the

:32:08. > :32:15.gold. No silver and no bronze. It's a golden affair. -- so four

:32:16. > :32:20.gymnasts. There we are four sharing a gold medal. Never have I seen such

:32:21. > :32:33.a thing. They had different little errors

:32:34. > :32:39.each. Unless you are sitting there judging what one was really great

:32:40. > :32:43.at, but like I said, the trouble is they do have similar routines by

:32:44. > :32:50.this time in a cycle, the judging and bonuses share after each

:32:51. > :32:54.Olympics so this is our final year with all these bonuses and judging

:32:55. > :33:02.and so most of the coaches have caught up with what's going to score

:33:03. > :33:08.best and have gone for, I am sure, exactly the same as the men. Look at

:33:09. > :33:14.that result. Four sharing the top score. China, two from Russia and

:33:15. > :33:29.the USA share the gold medal. Absolutely unbelievable. I have

:33:30. > :33:34.never seen such a finish. What do you think, Chris? I think it's great

:33:35. > :33:37.to see all the gymnasts together. There really is good camaraderie

:33:38. > :33:41.amongst the gymnasts, they all train so hard. It's a sport where everyone

:33:42. > :33:49.knows if you are at this level you have given your life to it. So, they

:33:50. > :33:58.do very much appreciate each other. There we are. Four gold medals. Also

:33:59. > :34:02.great to see that after the real powerhouses of China, Russia and

:34:03. > :34:07.USA, Great Britain are the next in there. Ruby proving that we are one

:34:08. > :34:24.of the top four countries. 10,000 people from across the UK

:34:25. > :34:29.sign up and become volunteers in sports clubs across the country. We

:34:30. > :34:34.want to you sign up between now and BBC Sports Spernlity of the Year on

:34:35. > :34:38.20th December. -- Personality. You put something out and get something

:34:39. > :34:41.back. It's a volunteering thing. Everyone here are volunteers.

:34:42. > :34:47.Everybody, including Emma here. She's a young volunteer, she's not

:34:48. > :34:52.doing that much, but it's great. It's called Big Help. Doesn't matter

:34:53. > :34:55.what your skills are, making tea and sandwiches, doing painting, washing

:34:56. > :35:03.kit, stuff like that. Just get involved. There's something for

:35:04. > :35:06.everyone. Sign up to join in, get inspired. Be a part of it. You and

:35:07. > :35:08.you, I am pointing at different people all the way across the

:35:09. > :35:17.country. You know something about putting

:35:18. > :35:21.effort in, that's for sure. Let's reflect on that bars final! Mitch,

:35:22. > :35:24.who has been around for a while, I am sure he won't mind me saying

:35:25. > :35:29.that, has never experienced anything like that. Four up there on that top

:35:30. > :35:33.spot. To be honest, I don't think anyone's experienced it. Basically

:35:34. > :35:41.half of that bar final have got a world title. You saw all the

:35:42. > :35:44.gymnasts, the first and third, everyone started giggling, by the

:35:45. > :35:48.4th they were like seriously, is this happening? They looked like

:35:49. > :35:58.they were having fun with it. How do you choose? David has and he has his

:35:59. > :36:03.favourite. He is with Madison Kocian. Tell us about that, how do

:36:04. > :36:07.you feel to be world champion? I think it's amazing right now. I am

:36:08. > :36:13.so excited. I know I can do even better but I had a great time out

:36:14. > :36:17.there today. To have four champions, you are a young girl, have you ever

:36:18. > :36:22.seen four people on top of the podium? I don't think so. I think

:36:23. > :36:26.this is a first. Maybe the judges can decide who are the better team.

:36:27. > :36:30.We don't know much about you. Tell us where you are from and who you

:36:31. > :36:33.train with. This isn't my first year, I was at World Championships

:36:34. > :36:42.last year on the gold team, it's great to be back and an honour to

:36:43. > :36:50.represent USA. I am from Dallas, so I train, I go to Wogan and she's

:36:51. > :36:53.helped a lot throughout my career. I have always looked up to her and she

:36:54. > :36:59.knows advice to give me and I text her before the competition and it

:37:00. > :37:03.helped. This US A-Team is so strong. How well can they do in Rio next

:37:04. > :37:07.year? -- USA. I think we can have two teams to do well next year. It's

:37:08. > :37:10.almost a competition against each other just because USA is so strong.

:37:11. > :37:18.Thank you very much. Congratulations. Thank you.

:37:19. > :37:23.Of all the routines, Beth, I guess from my perspective, I thoroughly

:37:24. > :37:27.enjoyed Komova's. It looked beautiful and effortless. People

:37:28. > :37:32.will be wondering how with the different style of routine they can

:37:33. > :37:36.score exactly the same. Yeah, it's all down to the difficulties and

:37:37. > :37:39.they all had their own little errors in different sections so that's why

:37:40. > :37:45.the judges were able to come out with the same scores. Some had steps

:37:46. > :37:51.on the dismounts, some landed - maybe short on the handstands or

:37:52. > :37:53.turns. For the judges they can only deduct what they're doing and

:37:54. > :37:58.obviously the panel are taking that difficulty. They don't even really

:37:59. > :38:02.know what the difficulty is going to be. You can do that with your eyes

:38:03. > :38:08.closed, you should have been down there. Maybe ten years ago, not any

:38:09. > :38:16.more! What a day it's been. We have seen history made by Max Whitlock as

:38:17. > :38:19.the men's first ever world champion. You were looking across the women's

:38:20. > :38:24.team thinking they've done it. Now, the British men have a world

:38:25. > :38:28.champion too. What does it mean for this national sport? It means

:38:29. > :38:31.everything. There's going to be young gymnasts across the country

:38:32. > :38:35.thinking one day I want to be like him, I want to be a world champion.

:38:36. > :38:39.Now we have a world champion on the men's side hopefully we can install

:38:40. > :38:43.that belief among a load of British youngsters. We will look at Max's

:38:44. > :38:48.routine now. As a pommel specialist yourself, talk us through the key

:38:49. > :38:51.moments here. That was a little bit of a shaky start. I was wondering

:38:52. > :38:56.how he was going to deal with the rest of the routine. He actually

:38:57. > :39:03.upped his difficulty here by doing an extra Russian on the one handle.

:39:04. > :39:06.And then here before he goes up into the hardest difficulty level on the

:39:07. > :39:10.pommel horse, he has done it beautifully. That was perfect. From

:39:11. > :39:14.here it's usually easy sailing. I have never seen him fail a routine

:39:15. > :39:18.from this position. You knew at this stage he was more or less through?

:39:19. > :39:21.Yeah, it was basically just how quick he could get into the

:39:22. > :39:25.handstand on the dismount and it went up really quickly. That's the

:39:26. > :39:28.key to try and make it look as if the swing is continuous. Yeah,

:39:29. > :39:32.definitely. If there is any pauses within the momentum of the routine

:39:33. > :39:36.that's when you give the judges something to deduct. It was lovely

:39:37. > :39:41.to see that flourish at the end. Nice to see he has a British plaster

:39:42. > :39:45.on there, as well. Yeah, I noticed that halfway through. Has he

:39:46. > :39:48.actually got a plaster with a flag? Max keeps everything the same. I am

:39:49. > :39:53.sure once he has used it once it stays with him. It's very hard to

:39:54. > :39:57.put into perspective how difficult this move is on the one handle. As

:39:58. > :40:02.you train it, it's the dream really to be able to travel the length of

:40:03. > :40:07.the horse, to start at one end and walk along and that's how you build

:40:08. > :40:12.it. Definitely, pommel horse takes a long time to come, I remember me and

:40:13. > :40:17.Louis and Paul when we were younger, Paul would make us do 1,000 circles

:40:18. > :40:22.three times a week. It would take hours. That's why we got good. On a

:40:23. > :40:28.classic mushroom. I know what it feels like. I have been there. There

:40:29. > :40:33.is Louis and those 1,000 circles that you are talking about, they've

:40:34. > :40:37.paid off in spades. One and two, not just one and two, but one and two

:40:38. > :40:41.over 16. 16 is a massive score. If you score that you expect to be

:40:42. > :40:45.world champion. But Max getting another 16, that's incredible.

:40:46. > :40:51.Hopefully they can both keep that going ready for Rio. The difference

:40:52. > :40:54.between Great Britain and the rest of the field, Berki is not in this

:40:55. > :40:58.final, but he blew it out in qualification. Definitely. You have

:40:59. > :41:01.to make the final first, that's why the qualifications are so

:41:02. > :41:08.nerve-wracking but once you are in the final, we have seen Berki wasn't

:41:09. > :41:12.in there and the two British guys' title to lose. Max will be relieved

:41:13. > :41:18.that the competition is over. We are talking about the fact - that was

:41:19. > :41:21.his 20th routine. To be able to maintain his energy levels and with

:41:22. > :41:26.the last routine become world champion. Yeah, it has been a tough

:41:27. > :41:29.week for him. He had a shaky start with qualification. Then I think his

:41:30. > :41:32.mood will have been picked up by that team silver medal and the rest

:41:33. > :41:36.of his team-mates will have been there with him the whole time. Every

:41:37. > :41:40.time he steps out on to this floor, if you have that crowd behind you,

:41:41. > :41:45.he seems to thrive off it. The more he does a final, the better he gets.

:41:46. > :41:47.He doesn't seem to like qualifications, so maybe we should

:41:48. > :41:51.skip that for him. It's wonderful the way that the British gymnasts

:41:52. > :41:55.are managing to achieve and also the impact it seems to have be having

:41:56. > :42:06.for people watching this. And for them it's a new sport but people can

:42:07. > :42:15.keep watching because tomorrow we have more interest. We

:42:16. > :42:22.He has a high start value and is one of the cleanest competitors I have

:42:23. > :42:25.ever seen on parallel bars so he doesn't lose much. He almost made

:42:26. > :42:30.the all round competition. It was close. He scored the same as Max

:42:31. > :42:34.Whitlock. Yeah, in qualification because he scored the same they went

:42:35. > :42:40.back and took the top five pieces of apparatus and it meant that Max was

:42:41. > :42:45.0. 133 ahead of Nile. He just missed out on that all round final. Well,

:42:46. > :42:51.there is still gymnastics going on behind us. This is the men's rings

:42:52. > :42:57.final and if you want to watch that you can do on our programme which is

:42:58. > :43:02.The Dismount you can watch it through the red button or the BBC

:43:03. > :43:07.website. What a day of finals it's been. It will continue tomorrow at

:43:08. > :43:11.the same time on BBC Two. Listen, what a week it's been for British

:43:12. > :43:15.gymnastics. Max Whitlock rounds things off so far making history as

:43:16. > :43:30.the first men's British gymnast to become world champion.

:43:31. > :43:42.That is a bronze medal for Great Britain! Unbelievable! Great Britain

:43:43. > :43:47.are world team silver medallists. There you are looking at the world

:43:48. > :43:52.champion. There is the titles. All six of them and they're all yours!

:43:53. > :43:59.Max Whitlock silver on floor and now he is a world champion on pommel

:44:00. > :44:03.horse. What a championship this has been!
