:00:42. > :00:48.Welcome to Glasgow for World Cup gymnastics. This is a city bracing

:00:49. > :00:53.itself to hold two years of sport. The Commonwealth Games start in

:00:54. > :00:57.eight months, and in 2015, the World Gymnastics Championships will be

:00:58. > :00:59.here. For 2013, the British team have had yet another year to

:01:00. > :01:46.remember. Well, it is the Emirates Arena

:01:47. > :01:55.hosting the competition. Joining me is Beth Tweddle and Dan, it is great

:01:56. > :02:03.to see you. Let's get some context, how does the World Cup series fit

:02:04. > :02:06.into the gymnasts' year? They'd take the top eight from the previous

:02:07. > :02:10.championships, there are four competitions, at the end of the year

:02:11. > :02:17.they add up the points to get an overall winner. What kind of kudos

:02:18. > :02:20.does this have? It is a great honour to be invited, and for the

:02:21. > :02:27.spectators it is watching the top eight gymnasts. But it is an

:02:28. > :02:31.all-around title, you can't specify. All the gymnasts will compete on

:02:32. > :02:35.every piece of operators. Yourself, nobody is more qualified to talk

:02:36. > :02:41.about it than yourself, a silver at the World Championships, but how

:02:42. > :02:45.different is it doing the all-around compared to the individual

:02:46. > :02:50.apparatus? A lot harder. Lots more pressure on each piece, if you have

:02:51. > :02:54.one mistake it can all be over. The training is a lot more difficult.

:02:55. > :02:59.You are not just doing one piece of apparatus, you have to try to get

:03:00. > :03:02.around all six. Looking ahead to the Commonwealth Games, you have gone

:03:03. > :03:08.back into training for the all-around? Yes, it is going well,

:03:09. > :03:13.it is hard, it is difficult to get everything back. I am used now to

:03:14. > :03:18.just doing one, two or three pieces of operators, it is a lot more

:03:19. > :03:25.intense. I guess you did not realise how difficult it was before? I took

:03:26. > :03:28.for granted how used to it I was. Bowing down to three pieces and then

:03:29. > :03:34.going back is really tough, but it is going well. And, best, you have

:03:35. > :03:42.said you are retired, but you are still kind of training? -- and, Beth

:03:43. > :03:50.Tweddle, you have said? I am doing a gymnastics show in the states. It is

:03:51. > :03:53.really difficult to walk away. You have still got strapping around your

:03:54. > :03:58.ankle, even in that beautiful dress, it is good to see! Well we were

:03:59. > :04:05.researching last night, Beth Tweddle went out on the town to get insight

:04:06. > :04:08.into who to look out for. There is a very strong women's

:04:09. > :04:16.field. My three to watch the necessary RE, Larisa Iordache and

:04:17. > :04:21.Elizabeth Price. -- my three to watch our Vanessa Ferrari. Elizabeth

:04:22. > :04:27.Price is so dynamic. She was the winner last year. I am confident I

:04:28. > :04:32.can do my best. I have trained really hard. I am sure it will come

:04:33. > :04:41.out neck and neck to see who will win. Larisa Iordache is a very

:04:42. > :04:44.experienced international gymnast, fresh from success at the World

:04:45. > :04:49.Championships this year. She will be looking to take the title. Her

:04:50. > :04:54.weakest apparatus is bars, but she loves being on the floor. Vanessa

:04:55. > :04:58.Ferrari has a wealth of international experience, a former

:04:59. > :05:03.world and European champion looking to fight for the title this weekend.

:05:04. > :05:09.She is powerful and consistent, I would say her favourite apparatus is

:05:10. > :05:13.the floor. We still have that might time vibe,

:05:14. > :05:19.because the lights have gone out! You will nail your colours to the

:05:20. > :05:24.mast, Elizabeth Price is the winner? It will be tough between her and

:05:25. > :05:31.Iordache, there was only 0.3 between them last weekend. She gets a medal

:05:32. > :05:38.in every competition. She sometimes has difficulty with consistency,

:05:39. > :05:47.Price has consistency on the site. What about the British girls? We

:05:48. > :05:51.have a great set up for them. It is a great experience on the big stage,

:05:52. > :05:58.an opportunity to compete with the world's best. There is a great

:05:59. > :06:05.opportunity for Raer Theaker. Let's hear from her and Ruby Harrold. I

:06:06. > :06:09.have two internationals, two in Switzerland and one year, and they

:06:10. > :06:16.are both World Cup is, they are high, international level gymnasts

:06:17. > :06:20.competing. I think I have prepared well enough so I am confident, but I

:06:21. > :06:27.am scared because it is sold out and in front of a home crowd. I don't

:06:28. > :06:30.expect anything massive from this, but it is experience for the

:06:31. > :06:36.Commonwealth next year, it is good to be in Glasgow.

:06:37. > :06:41.I overcame a lot of injury last year, so to make three European

:06:42. > :06:44.finals was fantastic. To do my first World Championships and then make an

:06:45. > :06:49.all-around final and an apparatus final was mind blowing. Then to be

:06:50. > :06:54.asked to do two world cups at the end of the year was fantastic. It

:06:55. > :06:58.has been a good year. It was interesting talking to Ruby, this is

:06:59. > :07:05.the end of a very, very long year and she is tired. She is. She has

:07:06. > :07:08.had an amazing year. European final, world final, she has picked up so

:07:09. > :07:13.much experience. She has another three years to keep working, leading

:07:14. > :07:19.into Rio, so competitions are a great way to finish. Quite an

:07:20. > :07:27.exciting end to the year, the setup feels epic? Yes, it is a really good

:07:28. > :07:31.stadium, it feels like World Championships, the atmosphere is

:07:32. > :07:38.amazing. As the competition progresses, the winner will be going

:07:39. > :07:44.last. Psychologically, how does that affect things? It can be a lot more

:07:45. > :07:51.pressure, normally you would move one step up, but these gymnasts are

:07:52. > :07:56.experienced, but it is exciting for the audience because they know who

:07:57. > :08:02.is in the lead. Dan, you just have to do your own thing? You have to

:08:03. > :08:05.block everything and concentrate on performance. I think the hardest

:08:06. > :08:10.thing will be if you are in first place and you have a really good

:08:11. > :08:14.piece, -- bad piece, you could end up going first next time. It is nice

:08:15. > :08:20.to stand back and watch the competition, we will hand over to

:08:21. > :08:26.our commentators, Mitch Fenner and Christine Still.

:08:27. > :08:33.Elizabeth Price has to be the favourite. She is great at World Cup

:08:34. > :08:38.gymnastics. But strong challengers from Vanessa Ferrari and Larisa

:08:39. > :08:44.Iordache. She is a great prospect from Romania and she is still very

:08:45. > :08:47.young -- a great prospect from Hungary.

:08:48. > :09:05.Asuka Teramoto goes first. 17 years old, ninth all round in the

:09:06. > :09:15.2013 World Championships. The first operators is the vault. 1.5 twists.

:09:16. > :09:23.She is a tiny gymnast and that was a big, impressive vault.

:09:24. > :09:27.If you are going to twist, you have to get your shoulders up when you

:09:28. > :09:33.hit the deck. She was a little bit low. She was a tiny bit off-line.

:09:34. > :09:49.She is off-line, the shoulders were down. The landing will be expensive.

:09:50. > :09:56.No introduction necessary, I'm sure, for Vanessa Ferrari. What a classy

:09:57. > :10:10.gymnast she is. Spanning almost a decade at top level.

:10:11. > :10:26.That was a lovely 1.5 twist, just a step on landing. Hi, well performed.

:10:27. > :10:34.-- high, well performed. Good contact, very clean. Very

:10:35. > :10:52.determined. Lost a bit of form from her legs, they were a bit bent.

:10:53. > :11:01.Ruby Harrold from Great Britain. 17th all round in the World

:11:02. > :11:06.Championships in Antwerp in 2013. She made the bars final and would

:11:07. > :11:11.love to have a good, solid vault this time. Beautiful lift,

:11:12. > :11:17.full-twist, just one twist, not so highly terraced, but a very high and

:11:18. > :11:24.clean. Just limits one pays to the side mad landing. -- just limits one

:11:25. > :11:36.Vaughan to the side on that landing. That is the sort of start she would

:11:37. > :11:55.want. When it is not that difficult, you need that type of execution.

:11:56. > :12:09.Roxana Popa Nedelcu from Spain. 12 all-around in the World

:12:10. > :12:11.Championships. From Madrid. In her first year as a senior, impressing

:12:12. > :12:17.many. Just a straight. That is a big

:12:18. > :12:43.surprise. Nor more of a was at a split-second decision or

:12:44. > :12:47.just a blip? It was beautiful, but the tariff is very low on it. The

:12:48. > :13:08.judges view what they see. We know how wonderful Carlotta

:13:09. > :13:21.Ferlito has been, how good will she be? We would expect a full-twist.

:13:22. > :13:33.Single twist, she landed well. A good decision. Keeping the

:13:34. > :13:40.difficulty down but keeping the execution online.

:13:41. > :13:54.Nice and clean. She is renowned for being work, not for vaulting. She is

:13:55. > :14:11.a tiny bit off-line. -- she is renowned for beam work.

:14:12. > :14:17.Surely Iordache is one of the favourites for the competition

:14:18. > :14:24.against Elizabeth Price of America? She is so impressive. I hope we can

:14:25. > :14:32.count the two twist. Very nice indeed. Just a bit of a stutter. But

:14:33. > :14:38.she is dynamic, fast and light. A great start.

:14:39. > :14:48.Really very determined. A little bit scruffy with the legs, but that was

:14:49. > :14:51.a businesslike start to the competition. Look at the

:14:52. > :15:01.determination. Wraps it around, makes the landing, great stuff.

:15:02. > :15:12.14.766 takes into the lead, ahead the Asuka Teramoto. -- ahead of.

:15:13. > :15:30.Rear figure of great written is very young and very determined.

:15:31. > :15:38.Just a tiny little bit off to the side. One of the very promising

:15:39. > :15:43.Welsh gymnasts with the Welsh national coach. Did she stutter in

:15:44. > :15:50.the last phase? She checked her stride but converted it very

:15:51. > :16:00.nicely. Very confident, a good start for her.

:16:01. > :16:07.She opens with 13.333, she is on her way.

:16:08. > :16:13.Elizabeth Price, winner in Stuttgart just a week ago, and she loves World

:16:14. > :16:27.Cup events, Christine, doesn't she? Chasing 14.766, that is Iordache's

:16:28. > :16:33.score, she is in the lead at the moment. The American gymnast, so

:16:34. > :16:37.powerful on this apparatus. Oh, and she launched herself up in the air,

:16:38. > :16:42.two and a half twists, but she did not have enough rotation. She went

:16:43. > :16:45.for massive height but did not have the rotation to board her feet on

:16:46. > :16:52.the floor, that is very uncharacteristic. Big, big bold,

:16:53. > :16:59.lots at stake, talk us through it, Chris. She goes so high, she wraps

:17:00. > :17:03.in for two and a half twists, it is difficult to land because you do not

:17:04. > :17:07.see the floor. You have to marry rotation, sort of, you need to get

:17:08. > :17:13.your feet down. She went for such height, she blocked it a bit

:17:14. > :17:21.steeply. That was the consequence, and that will be one whole Mark off.

:17:22. > :17:30.14.233, it was a difficult fault, the score was not as low as it could

:17:31. > :17:38.have been. -- vault. A tiny upset for Elizabeth Price, she is in third

:17:39. > :17:41.place behind Iordache and Teramoto. Vanessa Ferrari will be a figure to

:17:42. > :17:47.reckon with in the rest of the competition.

:17:48. > :17:57.1-piece down for the girls, Price with a costly landing. Yes, she went

:17:58. > :18:02.for the difficult Yurchenko, which no-one else had done, but she had

:18:03. > :18:05.that fall on landing. With the difficulty, she is still in

:18:06. > :18:10.contention because of the start value. It is an interesting thing to

:18:11. > :18:13.way up, how much do you push yourself knowing you can afford to

:18:14. > :18:18.make a few mistakes if you go high on difficulty? Definitely, you are

:18:19. > :18:22.always trying to get the highest difficulty and do it clean, but even

:18:23. > :18:27.if you fall, you will come up with a big score anyway, you can still be

:18:28. > :18:36.in contention. Moving on to bars, after this piece, they will be

:18:37. > :18:38.halfway around, not much time to put things right if they go wrong with

:18:39. > :18:41.the women's all-around. There is not, one big mistake can really put

:18:42. > :18:45.you out of contention, but because Price had that difficulty, well,

:18:46. > :18:55.that advantage, it has still kept up there.

:18:56. > :19:06.Roxana Popa Nedelcu, aids with 13.166 with that strange vault. And

:19:07. > :19:13.watch this, straight into Gienger, very nice combination. The half turn

:19:14. > :19:20.into the front somersault, into the Jaeger somersault. Smooth, big, tall

:19:21. > :19:28.Tkatchev, she is really packing the release and catches in. The full

:19:29. > :19:32.para went into the normal Tkatchev. -- pirouette. Such a lot of

:19:33. > :19:36.difficult work, into the Pak salto, the somersaults down to the low

:19:37. > :19:42.bar. She has to go back up as well, and that was a bit flat. Winding up

:19:43. > :19:48.into the dismount, here we go, very nice, full twisting dismount, lots

:19:49. > :19:53.and lots of difficulty. She needed to make up for the strange decision

:19:54. > :19:59.on vault, we do not know what was behind it. No twists, she kept the

:20:00. > :20:04.score down to 13.166, but this was needed, very nice combinations, as

:20:05. > :20:10.Christine said, immediately into the Gienger, very nicely done indeed.

:20:11. > :20:14.She has a little bit of style here, and she is using it to advantage.

:20:15. > :20:16.This was the apparatus she needed to make up lost ground on, and she will

:20:17. > :20:25.be delighted with it. 13.93 three, . That gives her the

:20:26. > :20:42.lead at the moment. Raer Theaker, 13.33 on vault, what

:20:43. > :20:49.can we expect an bars? That is difficult element the forward

:20:50. > :20:52.circle, and into the back down to the high bar, very nice

:20:53. > :20:57.combinations. I was going to say that was the move that has been

:20:58. > :21:01.stalling slightly for the. The full pirouette. All gymnasts have to

:21:02. > :21:09.include a full pirouette on the bars. If they do not, it is a 0.5

:21:10. > :21:17.deduction. Now, she might well try and do it again, or she might just

:21:18. > :21:24.decide to carry on without. So she has lost a mark for falling. Here we

:21:25. > :21:29.go again, she includes the full pirouette, she gets that counted. Up

:21:30. > :21:34.to the high bar, very nice up to the high bar.

:21:35. > :21:43.Good Tkatchev, very smoothly done. Good handstand shape as well. Up,

:21:44. > :21:48.full twisting double back, she will be quite disappointed with that. A

:21:49. > :21:54.pity for Raer Theaker, a big occasion for her. But she did well

:21:55. > :22:00.to recover, Chris, it must be very disappointing. She did very well,

:22:01. > :22:05.and it is a big occasion. A really big home crowd. She had been

:22:06. > :22:10.training it really well, so it is disappointing to see the problem

:22:11. > :22:11.arise, but she got back on, really performed well, lovely full twist in

:22:12. > :22:15.the dismount. The score for Raer Theaker, 11.633,

:22:16. > :22:39.24.966 after two. Ruby Harrold, 13.599 required, and

:22:40. > :22:44.she was a finalist in the World Championships on uneven bars. What

:22:45. > :22:47.can she do? She has got a very original routine hold your breath

:22:48. > :22:51.for this first section. It is very tricky as well.

:22:52. > :22:59.She must hit her first handstand and does beautifully.

:23:00. > :23:08.Full turn any Pak salto. Feed through, into handstand, well, she

:23:09. > :23:18.did really well, because she hit the bar. Oh and again, it is the full

:23:19. > :23:25.pirouette that cause problems. She has already done two very difficult

:23:26. > :23:31.elements. She just turned to early. You have not got very much tolerance

:23:32. > :23:40.when you do that. Only a very few degrees.

:23:41. > :23:47.She goes for the full turn again, that is how to do it properly. Now

:23:48. > :23:52.she must shoot up to the high bar, smoothly done. She has still got a

:23:53. > :23:58.big release to come, half turn, here we go, the front somersault, catch

:23:59. > :24:03.at full stretch, up into handstand again, double front somersault,

:24:04. > :24:06.nicely done, but she will be very disappointed, and a good

:24:07. > :24:11.accommodation last week in Stuttgart. Plenty more to come from

:24:12. > :24:15.her, seventh in the final on this apparatus at the World

:24:16. > :24:18.Championships, it is all there, it just did not happen for her on that

:24:19. > :24:25.full term, but she showed that she can do it second time out. She is a

:24:26. > :24:34.good gymnast. A very good gymnast, and she has had a very long season.

:24:35. > :24:40.Original work, that is the very well-controlled double front

:24:41. > :24:50.dismount. 12.633, what might have been!

:24:51. > :24:56.Carlotta Ferlito just getting the board in the right place.

:24:57. > :25:03.Yes, the coach will be there for the willies and catch, the one time in

:25:04. > :25:09.gymnastics that the coaches are allowed to stand in. -- the release.

:25:10. > :25:19.Salter with full pirouette, very clean. And the half turn into a good

:25:20. > :25:23.forward giant and the Jaeger somersault, front somersault. She

:25:24. > :25:27.timed that beautifully, didn't she? Oh, but she really struggled with

:25:28. > :25:36.that, she didn't time it well at all! She fought like mad. Swinging

:25:37. > :25:42.well now, up into a double front dismount and she is a determined

:25:43. > :25:50.gymnast! Yes, we know about her grace and control on being. Look at

:25:51. > :25:56.that, I do not know what happened, but I survived it. Lovely technique,

:25:57. > :26:02.good Jaeger, very nicely rotated and called on straight arms. And that

:26:03. > :26:08.little error there, but she fought to keep hold of it, this was great

:26:09. > :26:11.from Carlotta Ferlito. And you can add the word tough to her CV to go

:26:12. > :26:20.with elegance on beam. Great stuff! 13.1 for Carlotta Ferlito, second

:26:21. > :26:28.place after two apparatus for her. Vanessa Ferrari next up. She needs

:26:29. > :26:50.12.966. So Ferrari with a chance. 12.966, can she do it? Oh, she can

:26:51. > :26:57.if she works well. Nice in the swings, with full turn. He won an

:26:58. > :27:01.turn straight into the Jaeger somersault, the front somersault.

:27:02. > :27:07.And that was smoothly down to the low bar and back-up.

:27:08. > :27:15.Clear circle, gymnasts have to show the close bar element. The

:27:16. > :27:19.dismount, full twisting double back, not a huge routine, but you can

:27:20. > :27:24.always bang on Vanessa Ferrari to fight her way through. Such a sharp

:27:25. > :27:30.focused gymnast, the way she tidied up that dismount to give a good

:27:31. > :27:36.presentation, last impression for the judges. Nice work, nice touches

:27:37. > :27:40.here. That is a nice little flourish. Good release, clean, keeps

:27:41. > :27:49.the swinging going. Skips in the transition to the lower

:27:50. > :27:56.bar, she needed to get this on her feet. Quickly up, skips into the

:27:57. > :28:02.finish position, very nicely done indeed, 12.96 is she needed, 14.1

:28:03. > :28:09.she got, comparably into the lead at the halfway stage in this

:28:10. > :28:15.competition. -- comfortably. Elizabeth Bryce, a little bit of a

:28:16. > :28:20.disappointment for her on vault, but 14 on bars is within her

:28:21. > :28:22.capabilities. -- Elizabeth Price. It certainly is, she is not used to

:28:23. > :28:39.having to fight from behind. That was quite late, but she got it

:28:40. > :28:45.into The Pike Tkatchev. Here is the toll on and off Tkatchev, straight

:28:46. > :28:49.down to the low bar. She is really packing the difficulty in, no lose

:28:50. > :28:56.swings. Watch for the dismount, up, she whines up, double straight with

:28:57. > :29:03.full twist. A really difficult, classy routine. Impressive, showing

:29:04. > :29:07.metal and determination after a disappointing start for her. Surely

:29:08. > :29:11.that has done the trick, some lovely work to save a here. Good

:29:12. > :29:16.combinations, the full turn was a little bit late, that is the full

:29:17. > :29:19.Tkatchev, she did it again, nice work, difficult, all the transitions

:29:20. > :29:30.were clean and very confident. And a classy dismount to wrap it all

:29:31. > :29:36.up very nicely indeed, full twist in two double straight, lovely routine.

:29:37. > :29:41.14.833, a great score for Elizabeth Price. Into the lead with 29.066

:29:42. > :30:06.after two. She is a good bar worker. Stoop in

:30:07. > :30:14.and out with full peril -- pirouette, straight into the

:30:15. > :30:19.Gienger. Open to the front somersault, showing good variety.

:30:20. > :30:26.Oh, a little bit of a late full-term, but she joins it straight

:30:27. > :30:31.into the chute down and up. She is building difficulty, her start value

:30:32. > :30:36.will be high. Another confident dismount, double talk with

:30:37. > :30:40.full-twist. We watched her train, that was the best routine I have

:30:41. > :30:49.seen from her all week. I think that is called rising to the challenge.

:30:50. > :30:56.She needed a score in the high 14s, 14.533, I think she will be close to

:30:57. > :31:02.that. A lovely combination into the Gienger. This is nice work. A slight

:31:03. > :31:12.loss of body shape, but set up nicely. Clean in the releases,

:31:13. > :31:17.confident in the handstand. This, the area, perhaps, that will keep

:31:18. > :31:27.her away from the big score. A little stagger forward, but nice

:31:28. > :31:36.work. 13.933, severely judged. She is into second.

:31:37. > :31:42.Larisa Iordache needs 14.3. She has really improved on bars and the

:31:43. > :31:49.Romanians have generally improved on bras. She is, but this is her week

:31:50. > :31:58.peace. -- the Romanians have generally improved on bars. This is

:31:59. > :32:07.her week peace. Judges would have deducted for that. It is confident.

:32:08. > :32:17.A good, full pirouette. She joined those well.

:32:18. > :32:25.Good handstand, controlled it, made the swing turn. Full-twisting double

:32:26. > :32:33.back, chest up beautifully on landing, she will be delighted. That

:32:34. > :32:37.was a cracker. It was needed. Romanians, generally, have struggled

:32:38. > :32:45.on this apparatus. She made strides but she really to hit it. Super

:32:46. > :32:52.half-turn, the flight from below bar to the hive. This is the front

:32:53. > :32:58.somersault that is a little lower. She is below the bar. Her turns were

:32:59. > :33:05.good, she was clean. There is the Pak salto, the Somerset from the

:33:06. > :33:19.high bar down to below bar. -- the somersault. Look how high her

:33:20. > :33:21.shoulders. Absolute cracker. 14.4. That puts Iordache into the lead at

:33:22. > :33:34.the halfway stage. Look how close it is, it is a tiny,

:33:35. > :34:00.tiny margin. It is not over yet. Raer Theaker from Great Britain,

:34:01. > :34:11.approaching her third apparatus. Just 16. Enjoying the occasion, I am

:34:12. > :34:12.sure. A difficult start. She performed the front somersault

:34:13. > :34:33.really well. A well performed free cartwheel and

:34:34. > :34:54.layout somersault, though. Lots of marks these days for artistry.

:34:55. > :35:03.She has very nice, fluent arm movements. Good low to the beam. All

:35:04. > :35:22.of these requirements a routine. Interesting turn on the knees.

:35:23. > :35:31.The difficult change likely with half-turn. Good on the beam, how

:35:32. > :35:37.about off? Double-twisting finish. A very confident performance. World

:35:38. > :35:44.and Raer Theaker. A lovely smile to go with our performance. -- well

:35:45. > :35:47.done, Raer Theaker. She had a few problems on the bars, but she looked

:35:48. > :35:53.to be over them. A very confident performance. This is the free

:35:54. > :35:59.cartwheel into a layout somersault. A difficult combination. This is

:36:00. > :36:04.such an efficient double spin. She timed it beautifully. Two twists in

:36:05. > :36:27.the dismount. 38.132 after three. Ruby Harrold comes up to the beam,

:36:28. > :36:35.she needs in 11.999. That would take into the lead. How is her beam? She

:36:36. > :36:39.is really known as a bar worker, but she made the finals on the beam as

:36:40. > :36:42.well at the Europeans this year. She performed very well. This is an

:36:43. > :36:50.interesting, unusual mount. That was a Healey to land on one

:36:51. > :37:06.foot. She held her nerve for that front

:37:07. > :37:20.somersault. The backflip and layout somersault

:37:21. > :37:30.have to be linked in order to score well in this routine.

:37:31. > :37:59.The obligatory two the is as well. -- two beeps.

:38:00. > :38:08.That beeping noise meant that the gymnast has ten seconds left to

:38:09. > :38:12.dismount. She runs. Good, strong, front twisting somersault to finish.

:38:13. > :38:17.A little bit of a fight, but she's about. There is the front

:38:18. > :38:22.somersault. A very difficult move along the beam. That is the ring

:38:23. > :38:37.leap with the head right back. All those little wobbles will get

:38:38. > :38:51.small deductions, but the dismount was good.

:38:52. > :39:01.Carlotta Ferlito, a very special performance on beam. She needs a

:39:02. > :39:05.score in the 11s, she can get up into the 14s? She can. A nice,

:39:06. > :39:29.supple gymnast. Her bonus marks come from linking

:39:30. > :39:31.moobs. Two backflips and a layout. Oh, but all the bonus marks fritter

:39:32. > :39:46.away when you fall off! She looks really determined. A

:39:47. > :40:18.strong technique on the spin. She is using these elements quite a

:40:19. > :40:25.lot. Every time the gymnast takes their head back during a leap or

:40:26. > :40:28.jump it adds to the difficulty. She has fulfilled all the requirements.

:40:29. > :40:35.You can see big concentration for the dismount. Two 1/2-twist,

:40:36. > :40:43.difficult dismount. She will be bitterly disappointed with herself.

:40:44. > :40:49.She is so confident. She has such a stamp on the way she presents her

:40:50. > :40:54.beam work. Deraa extra bonus points for linking three elements. She went

:40:55. > :40:58.for the two backflips before the somersault, her feet were across the

:40:59. > :41:02.beam when she landed. Very difficult to alter that. The judges have some

:41:03. > :41:10.deliberating to do to decide what they credit her and what it

:41:11. > :41:15.difficulties school will be. A disappointing score for her, 12.6,

:41:16. > :41:26.still enough to take the lead at this stage.

:41:27. > :41:32.You cannot write Vanessa Ferrari off. She is focused and determined.

:41:33. > :41:41.She has produced great performances on the beams over the years. 2006

:41:42. > :41:47.world champion, when she first burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old. We

:41:48. > :41:49.have seen her grow up and mature. And sometimes be great on beam and

:41:50. > :42:02.sometimes not. The free walk over the foot was off.

:42:03. > :42:22.A little bit jittery. At least a full spin is one of the

:42:23. > :42:48.requirements. This has been a much better

:42:49. > :42:53.performance. The big round-off, the double somersault. She built her

:42:54. > :43:01.confidence do the routine, showed the class that she is. That is her

:43:02. > :43:05.trademark. Since she was a tiny little thing at 15 years of age at

:43:06. > :43:12.the European Championships, when she won, and in 2006. And she is still

:43:13. > :43:19.impressive. Christine asked what we were going to see today, that was

:43:20. > :43:24.the answer. Yes. 23 years of age, you can see her first foot was

:43:25. > :43:29.hanging off the beam. She has practised that many times. You can

:43:30. > :43:32.see a little opening here to do well. Vanessa Ferrari is nothing if

:43:33. > :43:45.not determined. 13.9, the lead for her at the

:43:46. > :43:53.moment. She is having a good competition.

:43:54. > :44:15.Asuka Teramoto needs 13.6 except them. -- needs 13.667.

:44:16. > :44:21.Double spin into a backspin, very well performed. Half-turn onto the

:44:22. > :44:38.hands. Two backflips, a layout somersault.

:44:39. > :44:49.And another gymnast has been caught out by it. Very surprising.

:44:50. > :44:56.She did not quite link the free walk to the site Somerset, foot down, so

:44:57. > :45:03.no bonus marks, but both elements beautifully performed. -- she did

:45:04. > :45:19.not quite link the free walk to the side somersault.

:45:20. > :45:29.Lots of concentration for the dismount, a good round off, triple

:45:30. > :45:35.twist. She landed that well, but the damage was done, the marks were lost

:45:36. > :45:40.with the fall already. This is the very good combination, look, double

:45:41. > :45:43.spin straight into a backspin. So sharp and confident, and really it

:45:44. > :45:50.was a surprise when she did part company. She is a good gymnast,

:45:51. > :45:56.ninth all-around in the World Championships. Look at this, and off

:45:57. > :46:06.she comes. The dismount, just two steps, the triple twist, just

:46:07. > :46:14.squeezed it around. 13.2 for Asuka Teramoto, she has gone into second.

:46:15. > :46:22.Elizabeth Price, second she was at the halfway stage, behind Larisa

:46:23. > :46:23.Iordache. Surely, unless some mishap, she will achieve the

:46:24. > :46:33.required score. A really powerful but for me,

:46:34. > :46:38.Elizabeth Price. This is probably not her favourite apparatus, but she

:46:39. > :46:42.has some very powerful elements on it.

:46:43. > :46:46.Watch this, from standing, back somersault with full twist, not a

:46:47. > :46:55.flicker. So strong, smooth and well performed

:46:56. > :47:04.free walk over, straight into the league. -- leap.

:47:05. > :47:15.Is more unusual flip to two feet and then somersault straight back to two

:47:16. > :47:28.feet. -- this. But that is a little bit cautious,

:47:29. > :47:34.that leap, the half turn. And just a little over spin on the full spin.

:47:35. > :47:44.Strong in the free cartwheel. The dismount will be powerful. Here we

:47:45. > :47:50.go! Big round off, double pike, lovely height, lifted the chest on

:47:51. > :47:56.landing, a little cautious, I think. Very, very powerful, very confident,

:47:57. > :48:05.that is deep end is, standing full twist. So confident! No mistake for

:48:06. > :48:11.her. -- that is stupendous. This will be the query, that was quite

:48:12. > :48:15.poor, the change to the half turn. And the judges have really been

:48:16. > :48:23.harsh today, so it will be interesting as to how they judge it.

:48:24. > :48:25.The dismount was great, though. 13.833, she has gone into first,

:48:26. > :48:42.Elizabeth Price. Larisa Iordache, 13.733 required.

:48:43. > :48:48.The beam is an impressive performance for her, isn't it?

:48:49. > :48:52.Larisa Iordache is fantastic on beam, but this routine is full of

:48:53. > :48:59.risk. And I don't think she'll hold back. Watch this to start.

:49:00. > :49:04.Backflip, full twisting back somersault, really confident, and

:49:05. > :49:11.you think she has made it, but watch this as well.

:49:12. > :49:20.Round off, straight somersault with full twist off oh, and what a shame,

:49:21. > :49:25.what a shame! Such a feather in her cap, she did not hold back,

:49:26. > :49:36.Christine. She did not, the spin with the leg right up.

:49:37. > :49:44.And that is how you do that leap series, the change and half turn

:49:45. > :49:50.gets a bonus mark, floating the free walk over into two jumps. She has

:49:51. > :49:59.got wonderful read on the beam, she works so fast. -- wonderful rhythm.

:50:00. > :50:03.Cider somersault easily performed. -- side. We have seen her over the

:50:04. > :50:06.years perform great routines, but this year she has faulted a bid

:50:07. > :50:15.under pressure. Watch the dismount. The round off, the backflip, the

:50:16. > :50:20.triple twist, absolutely superb work. What a shame. Beautiful,

:50:21. > :50:25.beautiful work, she did not hold back, she went for that very

:50:26. > :50:30.difficult straight body full twist. She parted company with the beam and

:50:31. > :50:35.has given as a thrilling finale when it comes to the floor, it is going

:50:36. > :50:36.to be a real thriller. Round of straight with full twist, she nearly

:50:37. > :50:49.held it, didn't she. 14.1 is good enough for Larisa

:50:50. > :50:55.Iordache, she takes the lead with one apparatus to go.

:50:56. > :51:02.She parted company with the beam, but she did not lose her lead - she

:51:03. > :51:06.is in first over Elizabeth Price, a fabulous finish in store. Vanessa

:51:07. > :51:10.Ferrari is in third place, Ruby Harrold in seventh, Rea taker in

:51:11. > :51:14.eight. Only one more piece to go for the

:51:15. > :51:20.women, and you predicted the top three, you are right, but a slightly

:51:21. > :51:26.different order so far. Yes, she has taken the lead, but there is not a

:51:27. > :51:31.lot going into it, they are two totally different styles of gymnasts

:51:32. > :51:34.on the floor. Larisa is more gracious and artistic, whereas

:51:35. > :51:40.Elizabeth is just power. So it will be interesting to see how it

:51:41. > :51:45.unfolds. We saw Iordache, off be beam, she will be going to the floor

:51:46. > :51:51.with real fire in her belly. She will need to put things behind her,

:51:52. > :51:55.get onto the next apparatus and go clean on the last apparatus,

:51:56. > :52:00.finishing on a high. Can Ferrari climb higher as well? She has done

:52:01. > :52:04.incredibly well, so consistent. She has been in the background, everyone

:52:05. > :52:10.looking at the top two, but she is sneaking up the table. It doesn't

:52:11. > :52:14.have come around quick, does it? Let's go down to the floor for the

:52:15. > :52:22.final piece of apparatus in the women's all-around competition.

:52:23. > :52:31.Raer Theaker, 38 point -- 38.132, coming into this in eighth

:52:32. > :52:38.position. She has loved the exposure at this level, not cracking at all,

:52:39. > :52:43.just enjoying the experience. Here she is to wrap up her performance on

:52:44. > :52:48.the floor. Very well controlled triple spin right at the beginning

:52:49. > :52:55.of the routine, and then the change, the leap with full turn.

:52:56. > :53:16.The girls have to... That is too and a half this time. I was going to say

:53:17. > :53:18.they have to have twisting and somersault elements, double

:53:19. > :53:36.somersault, she will have to put that in later.

:53:37. > :53:40.Here we go, the round off, backflip, double somersault easily

:53:41. > :53:57.negotiated. Double twist, easily performed, well

:53:58. > :54:11.landed. Well, confident, happy performance

:54:12. > :54:17.all the way through today, she has loved the experience, has Raer

:54:18. > :54:22.Theaker, and at 16 there's plenty more to come from her. Yes, there

:54:23. > :54:27.with the Welsh national coach, she will hope to be one of those

:54:28. > :54:32.gymnasts representing Wales in the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Two and

:54:33. > :54:40.they have twisting front, very difficult element. -- two and a

:54:41. > :54:47.half. She tumbles very well, very confidently indeed, good technique,

:54:48. > :54:53.good double tug. Raer Theaker, 12.5, her first experience of a

:54:54. > :54:54.world cup in Glasgow, great experience to put into the family

:54:55. > :55:06.album. Ruby Harrold, 38.399 coming in, she

:55:07. > :55:13.needs 12.233 to take the lead at this stage, but the two British

:55:14. > :55:14.girls have been enjoying the day. One more performance for Ruby

:55:15. > :55:25.Harrold. Really pi, well... Wonderfully

:55:26. > :55:30.landed double are being, and she just tottered at the toes over.

:55:31. > :55:36.Tottered the toes over? That is tough to say! Very nice double twist

:55:37. > :55:50.that time, lovely powerful piece of music, this.

:55:51. > :55:56.Some great leaps in there and a super combination, one and a half

:55:57. > :56:22.into full twist. The combination of leaps that have

:56:23. > :56:36.to be included in the routine. She has really performed well, she

:56:37. > :56:43.has got to find some power and energy for the double back. She does

:56:44. > :56:50.that with ease. Great finish to her challenge. The roar from the Glasgow

:56:51. > :56:57.audience right behind her. The tumbling was strong and powerful,

:56:58. > :57:02.here is the double Arabian. And then the double twisting front

:57:03. > :57:08.somersault. She shows good variety of elements in this routine.

:57:09. > :57:17.The score for Ruby Harrold, 13.0 three, , her final total, first

:57:18. > :57:25.place at the moment but still performances to come.

:57:26. > :57:34.Roxana Popa Nedelcu of Spain. After the weak start on vault, she has had

:57:35. > :57:37.two very impressive apparatus to build on that, so she needs a strong

:57:38. > :57:43.finale to have a chance. And this, usually, is a really

:57:44. > :57:54.strong piece for her. And look at the lovely double

:57:55. > :58:05.straight to start. Two backflips, nothing wrong with

:58:06. > :58:21.that, that was fab! Two and a half twists, immediate

:58:22. > :59:06.punch front. Super tumbling, not quite the same

:59:07. > :59:11.express of work we have seen from some of the gymnasts, but she makes

:59:12. > :59:16.up for it with power. Well, she had a quiet start to this competition,

:59:17. > :59:20.but she has finished with a bang. That was more like what we expect to

:59:21. > :59:25.see, and she has done herself no harm at all with this. Look at the

:59:26. > :59:31.acceleration through the whips, into the full twisting double, and

:59:32. > :59:35.tumbling was strong and determined. The double Pike, a little skip back,

:59:36. > :59:45.but that is the way she would have wanted to finish this competition.

:59:46. > :59:55.14.3, a very good score for Roxana Popa Nedelcu, she finishes with 50

:59:56. > :00:02.ball -- 54 .532. Asuka Teramoto needs 12.866 on floor. And the

:00:03. > :00:07.Japanese, traditionally, are they impressive on floor? Is this a good

:00:08. > :00:11.apparatus for her? They are not normally so impressive on floor, but

:00:12. > :00:12.she is a good, strong tumbler, really a very good all-around

:00:13. > :00:35.gymnast. Two and a half into straight front,

:00:36. > :01:39.very light. We have seen good leaps and good

:01:40. > :01:45.jumps. Some strong tumbles. Just a little insecure on the finish, but a

:01:46. > :01:50.well worked routine. All these gymnast is working very hard on

:01:51. > :01:57.their presentation of the routine. -- all these gymnast heirs working

:01:58. > :02:05.very hard. Lots of Mark given -- marks given for artistry.

:02:06. > :02:19.She has gone into the lead. A good score all-around. What can we expect

:02:20. > :02:28.from Vanessa Ferrari? Floor has been a trademark apparatus for her.

:02:29. > :02:31.The silver medal on floor at the World Championships earlier this

:02:32. > :02:43.year. Double-twisting, double back. Just a simple double back on the way

:02:44. > :03:49.back. Watch her leaps. Vanessa Ferrari can sell a routine.

:03:50. > :03:55.She has done just that today. All she needs is one good, strong,

:03:56. > :04:02.finishing tumble. Double pike back, it is there. It is still there after

:04:03. > :04:13.all these years. She has adapted her floor, it is still impressive. She

:04:14. > :04:17.uses her league so well. The routine has two include at least three leaps

:04:18. > :04:26.or spins as well as five acrobatic elements. If you can leap as well as

:04:27. > :04:39.Vanessa Ferrari, you can add your value up. Vanessa Ferrari is now in

:04:40. > :04:46.the lead with 56.633. Elizabeth Price needs 13.734. She cannot

:04:47. > :04:53.afford any obvious mistakes. A thriller of a finale.

:04:54. > :05:08.This routine is packed with power tumbling.

:05:09. > :05:20.Hop turn into a double straight, how about that for the first two

:05:21. > :05:47.tumbles? The one and a half, straight into

:05:48. > :06:12.the tumble Tucker. Great precision on the landing.

:06:13. > :06:27.A very clever routine for a bouncy gymnast. Double pike somersault, no

:06:28. > :06:32.problem! Power and artistry. She rose to the challenge that Ferrari

:06:33. > :06:38.is set as the defending champion who has been in second, coming into this

:06:39. > :06:46.round. She has put some pressure on Larisa Iordache. Great performance.

:06:47. > :06:51.So much power, acceleration and determination. Look at that double

:06:52. > :07:01.double. Head in the rafters, but it did not matter. Look at that, double

:07:02. > :07:08.straight. Superstars! Such precise landing every time. I don't think

:07:09. > :07:17.she moved on any of her landings. Maybe a hop on the last one, but it

:07:18. > :07:24.was such impressive precision. 57.365, a little bit of pressure on

:07:25. > :07:29.Iordache now. Larisa Iordache, this is to win the competition. She needs

:07:30. > :08:03.14.099. She is good on the floor. Full-twisting double pike to open.

:08:04. > :08:12.Full-twisting double tuck, just a little hop.

:08:13. > :08:29.Oh, superb, squad spin. -- Quad spin.

:08:30. > :08:33.Really selling this routine, you can see the concentration for the

:08:34. > :09:04.tumbles. Easy triple twist. Straight from the corner into the

:09:05. > :09:22.tumble. Double pike, good landing. Say it, Chris? A really impressive

:09:23. > :09:29.routine. She looks a happy, composed gymnast. Really, she gave herself to

:09:30. > :09:35.that routine. In the lead all of this competition, she rose to the

:09:36. > :09:42.challenge. Elizabeth Rice left it for her to do, and she has done

:09:43. > :09:52.that. So, so impressive. -- Elizabeth Price left it for her to

:09:53. > :09:57.do. Beautifully done. This, Chris, Quad spin. Difficult? Very

:09:58. > :10:03.difficult, and really done with poise and very beautifully

:10:04. > :10:10.performed. She is a gymnast definitely growing with confidence

:10:11. > :10:14.and putting her own style on the routines. She has grown from a

:10:15. > :10:25.little girl into a really quite mature performer. She needed 14.099,

:10:26. > :10:31.Larisa Iordache has come up with 14.666 to seal a very impressive

:10:32. > :10:39.victory. Ruby Harrold con graduating her. Larisa Iordache held on to form

:10:40. > :10:43.to stay ahead of Elizabeth Price, who had that little problem on

:10:44. > :10:48.vault. The Nessa Ferrari was consistent all the way through to

:10:49. > :10:50.take the bronze medal. -- Vanessa Ferrari was consistent all the way

:10:51. > :11:00.through. You are a very powerful and dynamic

:11:01. > :11:06.gymnast, but did you end up on the back foot? It did not go according

:11:07. > :11:11.to plan? I was not planning on missing my vault, that was

:11:12. > :11:16.unfortunate. It affected a little bit how I was thinking for the rest

:11:17. > :11:21.of the meet. I put more pressure on myself or the other events. I was

:11:22. > :11:24.not totally down, I knew I was capable of making my vault,

:11:25. > :11:28.something went wrong at the wrong time. I knew I had to get everything

:11:29. > :11:34.together and make sure that I could keep my other routines. I heard you

:11:35. > :11:39.were feeling quite nervous, how was it? Are you pleased with your

:11:40. > :11:44.performance? I'm pleased, I did not expect to be here, let alone

:11:45. > :11:48.compete. I did not compete the best I could, but I did myself proud. I

:11:49. > :11:54.think we have done everyone we watched proud, and GB proud, but it

:11:55. > :12:04.is experience and I hope to get better every time, I am happy.

:12:05. > :12:10.It helps to have a home crowd behind you. It is nice for people to call

:12:11. > :12:15.your name. What are you take away from the competition? Experience,

:12:16. > :12:18.more than anything. I have had a brilliant time, it has been

:12:19. > :12:23.fantastic. Experiences the main thing.

:12:24. > :12:28.It is wonderful to see Larisa Iordache on top of the podium,

:12:29. > :12:34.smiling away. She played it absolutely right going into the

:12:35. > :12:37.final apparatus. The difficulty that she would normally perform at a

:12:38. > :12:42.world championship, it is the end of the season, every gymnast is tired,

:12:43. > :12:47.she played safe but she was so clean that the judges had nothing to take

:12:48. > :12:50.from her. Many people will wonder why they have not seen Elizabeth

:12:51. > :12:56.Price before, but it is where competitions have come for her in

:12:57. > :13:00.her career? The American team is so strong, she won the World Cup last

:13:01. > :13:04.year, she has had a year of injury this year, they have obviously put

:13:05. > :13:09.around here to see if she is on fighting form. She definitely is

:13:10. > :13:13.back on it. I know you and Vanessa Ferrari have competed for many

:13:14. > :13:19.years, but it is great to see her still on top of the world? Yes, she

:13:20. > :13:24.is so consistent. She knows her skills inside out. You can guarantee

:13:25. > :13:28.that she will go off and perform. It is nice to have someone like are

:13:29. > :13:32.competing on the circuit. The younger gymnasts have a role model.

:13:33. > :13:37.She is the one pulling the springboard out, she is there for

:13:38. > :13:42.them whenever they need her. You need people like that, so the

:13:43. > :13:45.Italian team will be pleased to keep hold of her. Beth Tweddle has

:13:46. > :13:49.inspired many youngsters, but just the other day she met up with a

:13:50. > :13:53.young gymnast who has really impressed her, even though she is

:13:54. > :13:57.only seven. I am not at my LJ as much as I used

:13:58. > :14:04.to be, but I am here today for a special surprise. -- I am not at my

:14:05. > :14:08.old gym. This seven-year-old is here today, she does not know I am here

:14:09. > :14:17.but she is such an inspirational little girl. She is just great. She

:14:18. > :14:22.has always been the perfect child, the angel child you would always

:14:23. > :14:27.want. You have never had to tell her off, so all of a sudden, overnight,

:14:28. > :14:36.she just changed and became a teenager overnight, slamming doors

:14:37. > :14:43.and getting moody and stroppy. We took her to the doctors. She was

:14:44. > :14:51.diagnosed with a tumour of the Overy so it is like a childhood form of

:14:52. > :14:56.ovarian cancer. They are the medals which I have one in competitions.

:14:57. > :15:06.These are my traces. I got first place. Dashmack these are my

:15:07. > :15:14.trophies. We said she has got a lump in her tummy. She was crying. We

:15:15. > :15:17.found that on the Friday that she had got the tumour. She had a

:15:18. > :15:21.competition on the Saturday which she was advised not to do but being

:15:22. > :15:27.Niamh she cried and wanted to do it. We said, we will let her do it

:15:28. > :15:35.but be very careful. She did the competition and she won. Every time

:15:36. > :15:46.I went to the and had treatment or a blood test, they would give you a

:15:47. > :15:53.bead. And you start off with your name and then the black ones are for

:15:54. > :16:04.blood tests. The star is for surgery. The face and the brown one

:16:05. > :16:09.is for losing your hair. Niamh thinks she is here today to look

:16:10. > :16:13.around competition Jim and see where I train. She has come along with her

:16:14. > :16:26.mum and dad and her coach but actually, I am going to surprise

:16:27. > :16:37.her. Hello. Do you know who I am? Are you normally this quiet? I bet

:16:38. > :16:44.you are not, are you? Good girl. Reached to the ceiling and touch the

:16:45. > :16:50.floor. First thing she wanted to do when she had finished her treatment

:16:51. > :16:59.was get back the gym. When she woke up she said, the first thing I will

:17:00. > :17:04.do is go back to gym and she did. Within a week the colour is back in

:17:05. > :17:10.her skin, she is back with her friends doing gymnastics. It has

:17:11. > :17:17.given her more life. You have got a lovely pointed toe. A very strong

:17:18. > :17:22.girl. We have definitely got Christmas to look forward to. Next

:17:23. > :17:27.year will be a positive year. Now you are part of our squad. There we

:17:28. > :17:34.are. Well, what a character. A girl who

:17:35. > :17:39.lets gymnastics do the talking. She was amazing. When I walked into the

:17:40. > :17:43.gym she did not speak but the smile on her face said it all. Her mum and

:17:44. > :17:47.dad said when she was having had treatment all she wanted to do was

:17:48. > :17:51.get back into the gym and be back with her friends. When you get that

:17:52. > :17:58.bug, there are so many young gymnasts all around here, young

:17:59. > :18:03.gymnasts will be competing on a very big scale here. It is on a podium

:18:04. > :18:08.which young gymnasts do not normally get to compete on. I did not get to

:18:09. > :18:13.compete on a podium until I was 16 years old so it is great experience.

:18:14. > :18:19.And is worth mentioning how many young people are getting inspired by

:18:20. > :18:22.what you have achieved. It is incredible for young people. It is

:18:23. > :18:26.really good for the sport. The more talent we have got to pick from as

:18:27. > :18:39.well. It makes Great Britain are much better country to compete in.

:18:40. > :18:44.What is it like to be a hero? It is really nice but I do not really know

:18:45. > :18:49.because I am constantly in the gym with my head down training. It is

:18:50. > :18:56.great for little gymnasts to come up to me and want photos. Took a while

:18:57. > :19:03.for me to come in here with you! There were a lot of young gymnasts

:19:04. > :19:08.coming up and wanting photos. Tomorrow night, many of the sporting

:19:09. > :19:16.greats will be being recognised and remembered with Sports Personality

:19:17. > :19:21.of the Year. Sports personality of 1970, our

:19:22. > :19:29.Henry, Henry Cooper. Virginia Wade has had the most scintillating

:19:30. > :19:34.victory. Our Sports Personality of the Year goes to two people, Jane

:19:35. > :19:40.Torvill and Christopher Dean. The greatest Olympian of all time, Steve

:19:41. > :19:50.Redgrave. For 60 years it has taken pride of place. Bradley Wiggins.

:19:51. > :19:57.Sports Personality of the Year live tomorrow on BBC One. What a night it

:19:58. > :20:04.is. It is an amazing night. A few years ago you did a full routine.

:20:05. > :20:08.Yes, it was back in 2006 and in 2009 I did a routine with down on the

:20:09. > :20:16.floor. And I hear you are coming back tomorrow night! No! We will put

:20:17. > :20:22.that to bed and turn our attention to the men's all-around competition.

:20:23. > :20:27.Daniel was jealous of best's trip out last night so we booked him into

:20:28. > :20:32.a taxi. The men's competition will be really

:20:33. > :20:37.exciting this year. Here are the main names I am looking out for. The

:20:38. > :20:41.favourite is Oleg Verniaiev. He has just come back from Stuttgart with

:20:42. > :20:46.an overall score of 92 points which no other gymnast has managed to do

:20:47. > :20:49.since the new code came in. This year has proved to be quite

:20:50. > :20:53.inconsistent on the high bar which is where he fell in the world

:20:54. > :20:57.Championships in Antwerp this year. The next guy is the American John

:20:58. > :21:02.Orozco who has just come back from a big injury and wants to prove

:21:03. > :21:04.himself again. He went to the Antwerp World Championships and

:21:05. > :21:09.picked up a medal on the parallel bars. The last competition, crazy

:21:10. > :21:15.things happened so it is good to stay composed and be alert. I just

:21:16. > :21:21.want to go in there. Finally is the Belarussian gymnast Andre

:21:22. > :21:29.Likhovitskiy. If somebody makes a mistake, I think he can sneak in

:21:30. > :21:34.there with a medal. The thing is with Oleg Verniaiev, it

:21:35. > :21:39.is all or nothing with him, isn't it? Yes, if he hits them he scores

:21:40. > :21:46.such a big score and it will be hard for anybody to beat him. We've

:21:47. > :21:50.soared John Orozco earlier on and he said he's just trying to stay alive

:21:51. > :21:54.because he has had so many injuries. He is coming back from a major

:21:55. > :21:58.injury and he wants to prove himself on the all-around circuit again. He

:21:59. > :22:03.has a big chance today. The exciting thing with British gymnasts today as

:22:04. > :22:06.we put our gymnasts up there and we invite other people from around the

:22:07. > :22:12.world to come and try and beat them. We have got Daniel Purvis and Sam

:22:13. > :22:17.Oldham going today and they will be tough to beat. Purvis is looking in

:22:18. > :22:21.good shape. He will go out today and give it his all. Sam is another one

:22:22. > :22:24.trying to push for a spot on the team. He will want to go out the

:22:25. > :22:29.improved to the selectors that he can compete under a lot of

:22:30. > :22:33.pressure. Let's find out how the lads are thinking.

:22:34. > :22:37.I was here last year observing, watching the competition and

:22:38. > :22:40.cheering on my team-mates and I was thinking, I would love to be part of

:22:41. > :22:46.this World Cup circuit next year so it is a big game for me to be here.

:22:47. > :22:51.I was fortunate, Max and Dan gained places for GB. Max is taking a rest

:22:52. > :22:55.so I got the call up for this condition. I have had a few injuries

:22:56. > :22:59.which have set me back but I have been pushing my difficulty on all

:23:00. > :23:03.six apparatus rather than just one or two apparatus are hopefully next

:23:04. > :23:07.year, that should put me in good stead for all around. All around is

:23:08. > :23:12.my main event and that is the thing I want to be winning medals that.

:23:13. > :23:18.Last weekend was the first World Cup in Stuttgart. It was a really tight

:23:19. > :23:23.competition. It would be great to do a repeat performance. Results wise,

:23:24. > :23:27.that would be fantastic. I have got family coming up and everything so

:23:28. > :23:34.it would be great to show them what I can do.

:23:35. > :23:35.Let's get on with the competition. In the commentary box, Mitch Fenner

:23:36. > :23:57.and Christine Still. Sam Oldham can pull some good work

:23:58. > :24:00.out under pressure. But look out for the young Belarussian, Andre

:24:01. > :24:04.Likhovitskiy who is so stylish but he will need to step up his

:24:05. > :24:08.difficulty if he is going to live in this company. First up on men's

:24:09. > :24:22.floor, 20-year-old Oleg Verniaiev. He was third in the European

:24:23. > :24:27.Championships all round. He did not have a big European Championships

:24:28. > :24:30.but he was the winner at the World Cup event just a week ago. A good,

:24:31. > :24:42.safe start. A big adjustment there. Those little jump forwards can be

:24:43. > :24:49.expensive. Wrapped it in but under rotated in

:24:50. > :25:07.the twisting front from handspring. The floor exercise traditionally is

:25:08. > :25:09.the place to get rid of any nerves if there are any about. It is a big

:25:10. > :25:25.test. Not the best of starts the Oleg

:25:26. > :25:34.Verniaiev. He has to nail this and he did. And little adjustment at the

:25:35. > :25:44.end. Five apparatus still to go. And he was the -- a little shaky to

:25:45. > :25:49.start with. The floor bounced away from him. That will be quite heavily

:25:50. > :25:51.deducted. He managed to keep his hands off the floor. The finish was

:25:52. > :26:19.much, much better. The Japanese are always great to

:26:20. > :26:33.watch. They have a lovely, almost laid-back style.

:26:34. > :26:44.His opener was steady. He needs to keep that controlled the exercise.

:26:45. > :26:59.The Japanese keep the shoulders down.

:27:00. > :27:05.Really wrapped the twist round there. Some rough edges. But it is

:27:06. > :27:16.the first of six, they will settle down.

:27:17. > :27:28.A Japanese handstand, not quite vertical.

:27:29. > :27:41.The double twist was very nicely done. But it was low in the full

:27:42. > :27:48.twisting double. A very interesting floor event. A real twister, this

:27:49. > :27:53.guy. Nearly all of his tumbles from the twisting category, that is the

:27:54. > :28:02.one roll down he is allowed. He is allowed once in the routine to not

:28:03. > :28:20.land on his feet. His final tumble, a bit of the deep landing.

:28:21. > :28:27.This is a very stylish gymnast. He impressed us that the World

:28:28. > :28:29.Championships. Technically very strong but has he got the

:28:30. > :28:44.difficulty? We will see here. That was beautiful with straight

:28:45. > :29:14.legs and smoothly out. Here you can see the style,

:29:15. > :29:20.beautiful stretched feet. The judges do not take so many marks away, when

:29:21. > :29:33.they seem gymnast perform with poor style they take marks away.

:29:34. > :29:45.Super work. Not big tumbles, Mitch. Clean and safe. A very clean and the

:29:46. > :29:49.splint gymnast. A beautiful half twist, nice and clean. This is an

:29:50. > :30:13.excellent manner. A very good score for not such a

:30:14. > :30:18.difficult routine. Daniel Purvis is on home territory. He had a good

:30:19. > :30:22.competition in Stuttgart last week, he came third. He was third here in

:30:23. > :30:29.Glasgow last year. Opening his account on floor. An event for which

:30:30. > :30:37.he is a world bronze medallist. He did that three years ago in

:30:38. > :30:38.Rotterdam. A good, solid start. Twisting very, very cleanly. Under

:30:39. > :30:55.control. He has a lovely presence on the

:30:56. > :31:09.floor exercise. He makes it look nice and easy.

:31:10. > :31:20.So often, unnecessary mistakes in simple work, but that was

:31:21. > :31:22.beautifully done. There is the one and the half-twist and his little

:31:23. > :31:41.trademark straight leg roll-out. That was a solid start for Daniel

:31:42. > :31:46.Purvis. That is one of the best routines I have seen him produce for

:31:47. > :31:52.quite a while. He has upped his difficulty, very impressive. This is

:31:53. > :31:57.the start, the flip, the double-twisting, double back. And

:31:58. > :32:06.just the slightest twitch on landing. He really knows where he is

:32:07. > :32:11.in the air. Big finish, the whip back into the double Arabian. That

:32:12. > :32:20.little step was almost the only noticeable deduction.

:32:21. > :32:24.A huge score, 15.433, this puts Daniel Purvis on top of the pile

:32:25. > :32:33.with three performances to go on floor.

:32:34. > :32:39.Gonzales is still only 20 years old and has a great future. Tall and

:32:40. > :32:53.stylish, a great all-around performer.

:32:54. > :33:00.All these moves are given bonuses when they are connected like that.

:33:01. > :33:05.That was a little bit sloppy, his legs were just a part of it. --

:33:06. > :33:24.apart a bit. He just about help the balance. --

:33:25. > :33:25.held the balance. Very competent. Just a little amble into that

:33:26. > :33:50.tumble. More twists. A lovely triple twisted

:33:51. > :33:57.to finish. Cleanly round. Nicely done by Gonzales. Twisting is his

:33:58. > :34:04.forte. A little bit scruffy coming out of the one and three, one

:34:05. > :34:07.1/2-twist. Tiny signs of nerves throughout the routine. I think he

:34:08. > :34:13.will be happy. 14.666, style balanced out

:34:14. > :34:29.difficulty. Difficult to think that John Orozco

:34:30. > :34:36.from the USA is still only 20 years old. The flaw is not his forte, but

:34:37. > :34:44.he will need a good, solid routine. Nice double pike.

:34:45. > :34:45.Lovely acceleration through the flick for the full-twisting double.

:34:46. > :35:15.A very good start. That handstand has to be clean in

:35:16. > :35:27.the final position. So often simple moves to give away.

:35:28. > :35:48.That two and a half twist was slightly over, but this is one of

:35:49. > :35:56.the best floor exercises from him that I can remember. A good split.

:35:57. > :36:04.Tension in the shoulders, shrugs them down. The two and a half twist

:36:05. > :36:11.was the finish, it is always difficult to land kindly like that

:36:12. > :36:19.without seeing the floor. 14.4 33, one performance remaining on floor.

:36:20. > :36:25.Sam Oldham for Great Britain closes the opening event for the men.

:36:26. > :36:28.Dan Purvis is in front at the moment, wouldn't it be nice if these

:36:29. > :36:45.two got very close together? He was part of the team that took

:36:46. > :36:51.the bronze medal at the Olympics. That was a fabulous opening tumble.

:36:52. > :37:01.He twists so fast, so well. So well rehearsed.

:37:02. > :37:23.He shows the control in the balance as well.

:37:24. > :37:35.He met that double twist with perfection. A good kick out before

:37:36. > :37:39.the roll-out. You can see the concentration, he knows this final

:37:40. > :37:46.tumble has two be difficult and has two land. Here is the triple twist.

:37:47. > :37:54.That was a big deduction. Not quite round. He will have to ponder hard

:37:55. > :38:02.over that. It is a pity, he was clean and crisp all the way through.

:38:03. > :38:09.Started with rocket fuel, very nice indeed. The tiniest adjustment, the

:38:10. > :38:12.judges might not have seen it. This looks so well. Plenty of

:38:13. > :38:18.acceleration. The undercut went well, but I think he met the floor a

:38:19. > :38:24.little bit early. Watch it now. Just slightly heavy. Here, the wheels

:38:25. > :38:28.fell off just a little bit. A little bit low on the landing, got the

:38:29. > :38:38.three twist round, but that is expensive.

:38:39. > :38:51.14.666, that is a pity. Until that final tumble it was a great routine.

:38:52. > :39:00.There is a long way to go. There are some strong events to come for John

:39:01. > :39:04.Orozco. An exciting competition. What a start for Great Britain, with

:39:05. > :39:10.Dan Purvis leading the way. Sam Oldham at joint third, but did

:39:11. > :39:13.you think the judge was harsh? We have found it hard to judge what

:39:14. > :39:17.scores were going to come out. We know that if Dan goes through he has

:39:18. > :39:21.high difficulty and performs cleanly, but we were slightly

:39:22. > :39:26.surprised by the American, his score was quite low. We did not expect

:39:27. > :39:32.anything else from Dan Purvis, given that he got the bronze at the World

:39:33. > :39:37.Championships. But how will he fare against Verniaiev on the pommel

:39:38. > :39:41.horse? Verniaiev has got the edge on the pommel horse, he also has the

:39:42. > :39:46.difficulty. That purpose has been working on a new routine. Percy has

:39:47. > :39:50.a nice little cushion from the floor. Let's see what happens, we

:39:51. > :39:58.will hand back to Mitch and Christine Steele.

:39:59. > :40:10.-- to Mitch Senna and Christine Still.

:40:11. > :40:30.This is a nice start from him. Clean and confident in the handstand. A E

:40:31. > :40:36.difficulty. -- a D difficulty. Every time they throw in a pike circle,

:40:37. > :40:40.there is a problem. The rhythm goes, Bob's is your uncle, you are

:40:41. > :40:48.standing on the floor. What a pity. But when you pick up your feet, the

:40:49. > :40:51.rhythm is very, very badly affected. There are six pieces of apparatus,

:40:52. > :40:56.it is not the end of the road, but he cannot afford another mistake. He

:40:57. > :41:06.is losing form and shape. He really has two get his head together.

:41:07. > :41:15.He recovered. Well done, John Orozco. Your head is stronger jaw

:41:16. > :41:19.technique was a tiny bit weak. The pommel horse, the apparatus that

:41:20. > :41:26.needs perfect technique. You can see the pike of the hip is as he is

:41:27. > :41:31.working. Just fighting to keep the legs above the handles. You are

:41:32. > :41:37.meant to clear the handles as much as possible. He swung well into this

:41:38. > :41:38.dismount. He was cleanly up, probably the best bit of the

:41:39. > :41:55.routine? Very leniently dealt with by the

:41:56. > :42:07.judges. Likhovitskiy can make this apparatus

:42:08. > :42:22.look quite beautiful. He has lovely lines.

:42:23. > :42:30.He is very confident on one handle. Good through the spindle, clean

:42:31. > :42:56.rhythm. This boy can swing. Plenty of good technical work. Keep

:42:57. > :43:05.the rhythm. Well done. Well done indeed. A good routine. Full of

:43:06. > :43:09.difficulty. The difficulty is added by travelling along the pommel

:43:10. > :43:18.horse. The hands have to try to stay even. A really taxing piece of

:43:19. > :43:25.apparatus. You need fabulous body tension and control. He swings up,

:43:26. > :43:32.pirouettes nicely, very clean dismount.

:43:33. > :43:53.That is a very good score. It is the lead.

:43:54. > :44:25.One of Yamamoto's best apparatus is behind him, that is the floor.

:44:26. > :44:34.He is keeping risen very nicely. A tiny bit piked. Bent arms, lack of

:44:35. > :44:40.rhythm in the handstand, the first noticeable error. But he is relieved

:44:41. > :44:45.to get that out of the way. The Japanese are always very good

:44:46. > :44:49.technicians. Lovely and supple. You can see the split of the legs,

:44:50. > :44:54.controlling the split of the handstand and back down. Very

:44:55. > :44:59.smooth. Just a little stall on the way up to handstand. The judges have

:45:00. > :45:16.to decide was its strength, not swing? Second place for Yamamoto.

:45:17. > :45:38.Fabian Gonzales standing by. He did a good floor.

:45:39. > :45:55.Very nice on one handle. He is keeping the rhythm very nicely

:45:56. > :45:57.indeed. Picked up his feet and that gives a problem, they have got to

:45:58. > :46:12.stay stretched. A lovely feel of control at the end

:46:13. > :46:17.through that handstand sequence. A big smile. He is delighted with

:46:18. > :46:22.that. Yes, a very good routine there. Another well-prepared

:46:23. > :46:35.gymnast. Supple, able to swing beautifully. Super straight arms. A

:46:36. > :46:46.good controlled finish and a big smile.

:46:47. > :47:01.He is in third place at the moment with two down.

:47:02. > :47:07.As a junior, Sam was superb on this apparatus. A little bit of

:47:08. > :47:31.hesitation but he got away with it. He was a little but wild. He is

:47:32. > :47:40.really staying on. He is fighting to stay on. He clipped his feet on the

:47:41. > :47:47.way through the dismount. He was rocket fuelled. He really fought

:47:48. > :47:55.every inch of the way there because it was not easy. He showed his real

:47:56. > :47:59.determination. He is maturing well. Stylish, beautiful work but he did

:48:00. > :48:02.not quite get the feet together there. That will be a bit of a

:48:03. > :48:14.deduction from the judges there. You give marks away on your

:48:15. > :48:18.execution while you are building on your difficulty score. You have to

:48:19. > :48:28.be care for that one does not outweigh the other. He kicked the

:48:29. > :48:35.pommel horse with his legs up into the dismount. We will see. Plenty of

:48:36. > :48:39.discussion amongst the judges. There were some good features. It was

:48:40. > :48:47.difficult but he did give away a few tenths. I have to say, that was a

:48:48. > :48:53.little bit severe comparison, fourth place at the moment.

:48:54. > :49:11.Oleg Verniaiev. He is a suburbia gymnast, still only

:49:12. > :49:17.20 years old. Third all round and the European Championships. -- he is

:49:18. > :49:40.a superb gymnast. He almost got his thumb caught under

:49:41. > :49:48.his fist! But he recovered well. He's struggling now. Once the rhythm

:49:49. > :50:01.goes, you need steel biceps and deltoids.

:50:02. > :50:35.You need a smooth rhythm on this apparatus. He was very unsettled.

:50:36. > :50:46.He has good technique and lovely shape but he allows the routine to

:50:47. > :50:52.run away from him. And he let his back arch, almost lost control of

:50:53. > :51:07.the dismount. That will be quite costly.

:51:08. > :51:29.Dan Purves had a great start on floor.

:51:30. > :51:35.He is keeping the one handle the work very well indeed. He lost his

:51:36. > :51:59.legs a little. That will do nicely. So Dan Purvis

:52:00. > :52:06.has cashed in on that large floor score and that surely will take him

:52:07. > :52:11.into the lead. Well done, Dan Purvis. It is a piece he has not

:52:12. > :52:16.always been so comfortable on but that looked very good. He looked to

:52:17. > :52:20.turn into from the beginning. He controlled this really well as he

:52:21. > :52:27.cut back into the swing. He kept it going. Difficult work. He has upped

:52:28. > :52:34.his difficulty level. He really looks like he is on song at the

:52:35. > :52:38.moment. A lot of this is about confidence and the confidence that

:52:39. > :52:41.you are going to get through this routine, even if little errors occur

:52:42. > :52:52.and he had but in abundance today. Super stuff. Dan Purvis takes the

:52:53. > :53:12.lead. Oleg Verniaiev has slipped to fifth.

:53:13. > :53:17.The winner from Stuttgart has not had a good pub or horse event. --

:53:18. > :53:42.pommel horse event. He will start to make the leeway he

:53:43. > :53:49.needs. The shoulders need to be lower in the half leave across. The

:53:50. > :54:04.feet are too low, this is not a good start for him.

:54:05. > :54:09.He was a little bit arched and his feet little bit low in the Maltese.

:54:10. > :54:28.This is not what he wanted. One and a half twist in the double

:54:29. > :54:35.at the end but so many problems technically. You can certainly see

:54:36. > :54:41.the look on his face, he was not happy. The shoulders are meant to be

:54:42. > :54:48.level with the hands they long way off. He struggled a bit. The whole

:54:49. > :54:58.thing seemed to be a bit of a battle.

:54:59. > :55:02.That is a big score. There were a lot of problems. He was a lucky man

:55:03. > :55:20.by. Now Sam Oldham. Rings are not a great apparatus for

:55:21. > :55:35.Great Britain as a whole but good progress made on it.

:55:36. > :55:50.That was a nice transition from swing to cross. This is good work.

:55:51. > :55:59.Double double at the end. Well, that was a good routine from Sam Oldham.

:56:00. > :56:05.A couple of little problems but he is coming on very nicely indeed. 20

:56:06. > :56:09.years old. The British team, the coaches know this is apparatus they

:56:10. > :56:15.have got to make ground on and this is a good start for it. He swings

:56:16. > :56:26.well. The shoulders are nicely in line with the hands.

:56:27. > :56:37.He controlled the top of the swing. He's lost his back slightly but a

:56:38. > :57:00.super double 22 finish. -- a super double double two finish.

:57:01. > :57:04.He is an erratic performer, inconsistency has crept into his

:57:05. > :57:30.work over the last 12 months. Good technique with the double

:57:31. > :57:45.Tucker and double pike put together, nailed into the cross.

:57:46. > :57:50.That was good technique. Strong with the rings in the circle to

:57:51. > :57:56.handstand. Lovely technique. This is his class. I wish we could see it

:57:57. > :58:02.more consistently. That was a beautiful dismount. Oleg Verniaiev,

:58:03. > :58:10.when he shows class like that, Christine, we know what his

:58:11. > :58:14.potential is. Yes, and the smile, he almost looked a bit surprised that

:58:15. > :58:21.the landing. He makes gymnastics look quite effortless. When you know

:58:22. > :58:31.how hard this work is, great strength moves linked together.

:58:32. > :58:40.Rings have to show swinging and strength and that is just what he

:58:41. > :58:46.does. Lovely style, look how straight those arms are, how

:58:47. > :58:59.straight the body is. A classy landing as well.

:59:00. > :59:13.He is comfortably in the first at this stage.

:59:14. > :59:21.He gives very little away in his demeanour but he is a fine all-round

:59:22. > :59:26.gymnast. The Japanese are on the crest of a wave here. The style and

:59:27. > :59:29.approach to competitions is a model for the rest of the world. They are

:59:30. > :59:52.laid-back and very impressive. His shoulders were a little bit high

:59:53. > :59:55.on both occasions. But the fact that he is swinging into those difficult

:59:56. > :00:00.strongholds will build his difficulty. He nails that

:00:01. > :00:08.beautifully. Plenty of momentum, then stopped dead. Then lots of

:00:09. > :00:15.rhythm and control. Not a bad routine at all.

:00:16. > :00:19.He overcooked the giant a little bit. Get those rings turned out,

:00:20. > :00:32.young man! He nails the double double. An

:00:33. > :00:37.interesting routine, a few little problems, but he is steady and

:00:38. > :00:43.consistent. Some very nice work indeed. Just a

:00:44. > :00:50.couple of deductions at the end, but look how lovely and straight that

:00:51. > :01:00.body is. Every time they show a strength hold, the shoulders need to

:01:01. > :01:04.be down. That one was so impressive. You can see the rings are swinging

:01:05. > :01:12.slightly, but he wrapped in hard for the double-twisting, double back to

:01:13. > :01:22.finish. At the halfway stage, he is on cause

:01:23. > :01:38.for about an 87 or 88. Stylish Andrew D. -- Andrew D.

:01:39. > :02:04.Very clean and very good, technically full stop.

:02:05. > :02:26.Double pike for his D dismount. It is very difficult to nail that this

:02:27. > :02:34.band. -- that dismount. He is on course for a good all-around mark.

:02:35. > :02:43.He is very good, unspectacular, quiet, but very good. That was

:02:44. > :02:47.ambitious. Not quite low North. It is whether he has quite got the

:02:48. > :02:51.difficulty to give him the big score. He won't have too many

:02:52. > :03:09.deductions. Here is the dismount. He has gone into the lead now. A

:03:10. > :03:12.good competition brewing. Daniel Purvis, the leader after two,

:03:13. > :03:32.needs 14.033. I am sure he is capable. But his

:03:33. > :03:40.feet look very low, have his shoulders dropped below the rings?

:03:41. > :03:51.You get as many deductions for going below the rings as you do above.

:03:52. > :04:04.This is not his best apparatus. Lovely technique. Piked Dublin to

:04:05. > :04:10.handstand. A nice wind-up, a double double and he has mailbag. The

:04:11. > :04:16.second part of the routine made up for a few little problems earlier.

:04:17. > :04:24.Super shape. Just a little bit lower. But really moving from two

:04:25. > :04:30.strength moves, one straight to the other. That is impressive. Always a

:04:31. > :04:37.lovely handstand shape. It is very impressive, the swing, and kill the

:04:38. > :04:50.swing. He twists so strongly and aggressively. 14.966, a good score

:04:51. > :04:55.for Daniel Purvis. He could make the elusive 90 in this competition. A

:04:56. > :05:04.fabulous competition so far, but he has to keep it up.

:05:05. > :05:13.We felt Sam Oldham was a little bit hardly dealt with on the pommel, he

:05:14. > :05:18.has had his mark increased by a 10th, which lifts him into fifth at

:05:19. > :05:23.the halfway point. The men's all-around competition,

:05:24. > :05:29.Dan Purvis' competition is going as he would want, a very confident

:05:30. > :05:35.lead? He has had no major errors, a small split on his pommel horse, but

:05:36. > :05:41.getting good scores. A word on his rings. He has been working very

:05:42. > :05:45.hard. Rings have kind of let the British team down? As a nation we

:05:46. > :05:48.have always been quite weak on the rings, but over the last couple of

:05:49. > :06:00.months he has worked very hard with his coach. Instead of scoring 14.6

:06:01. > :06:06.or 14.7, he is up almost at 15. Verniaiev was mentioned. He is

:06:07. > :06:11.clawing his way back? He has regained his focus and he is clawing

:06:12. > :06:16.back the extra points. Others has only increased his rings score by

:06:17. > :06:21.two or three tenths, but makes all the difference between finishing

:06:22. > :06:25.first and finishing fourth. Dan Purvis will know he is not home and

:06:26. > :06:32.dry, three big pieces to come from Verniaiev? Rio he is amazing on the

:06:33. > :06:40.parallel bars, he could potentially score 16. And I think he and Purvis

:06:41. > :06:42.score around the same on the other bars. Lets join the commentators

:06:43. > :07:05.again for the men's vault. He needs 14.133. Most of these guys

:07:06. > :07:15.are using the tariff of 5.6, the two and a half twist. There you go, he

:07:16. > :07:19.made that. A little bit to the side, but that is another consistent

:07:20. > :07:24.performance. He had a few problems on the rings, but that will make up

:07:25. > :07:31.the difference. I was just thinking that, what a classy performance. He

:07:32. > :07:41.wraps that two and a half rates down the middle. He shows lovely height.

:07:42. > :07:43.Height and style in that twist. A very useful score for him, it

:07:44. > :07:57.gives him the lead. John Orozco has had a few problems

:07:58. > :07:58.on the first three apparatus. Can he come into his own in the second half

:07:59. > :08:15.of this competition? Yes, that is more like it. Just the

:08:16. > :08:24.double-twisting. A two and a half would have been nice.

:08:25. > :08:32.Always a difficult vault. Back handspring, the straight front

:08:33. > :08:38.somersault with the two twist. The floor sort of hit him. You can see

:08:39. > :08:45.the jolts through his head. But she really recovered well. He is such a

:08:46. > :08:52.strong gymnast. 14.833, just the ticket.

:08:53. > :08:55.He is slowly crawling into contention for a third or fourth

:08:56. > :09:03.place after a dismal beginning. He would be happy with 14.7 to take

:09:04. > :09:20.the lead. Oh, he just about cleared the decks.

:09:21. > :09:31.It was a deep landing, but he got it around. He really powered down

:09:32. > :09:39.there, arms all over the place. Really lifting well. It was a very

:09:40. > :09:43.good fault, he just needed a fraction more heels speed over a

:09:44. > :09:50.fraction more rotation, but he knew where the floor was.

:09:51. > :10:09.Moto needs 13.8 to get into the lead, and he could get that. --

:10:10. > :10:32.Yamamoto needs. It was just about scrabbled around.

:10:33. > :10:40.The tariff is 56, it will give him the score that he needs. He ambled

:10:41. > :10:48.in a little bit, he really didn't get cleanly on. He fought very well.

:10:49. > :10:53.He could have sat down so easily. But the turn on was the trouble. He

:10:54. > :10:57.got such a little bit of a turn that he was always off direction from the

:10:58. > :11:03.beginning. That will be heavily deducted.

:11:04. > :11:12.He finds himself in the root after four apparatus -- finds himself in

:11:13. > :11:21.the lead. But still some big guns to come.

:11:22. > :11:35.Difficult or not, it will be a clean fault for him. -- vault.

:11:36. > :11:48.Double twist, 15.2 will be the score they start with.

:11:49. > :11:58.Opting to use the round-off in the board allows him to get on very low

:11:59. > :12:03.and really lift high into the air. Plenty of time for two twists. He

:12:04. > :12:08.doesn't really need to run quite so fast for this. You could see him

:12:09. > :12:21.lift and twist. He really did not give much away. He takes the lead.

:12:22. > :12:30.Verniaiev pits constituency -- Verniaiev's consistency is a little

:12:31. > :12:45.bit up and down. He needs something solid and

:12:46. > :13:02.consistent to stay anywhere near in contention. He did that very nicely

:13:03. > :13:09.indeed. Well done. This is a really impressive vault.

:13:10. > :13:15.Two somersaults with a half turnout, a tiny bit off-line but so dynamic

:13:16. > :13:21.and impressive. Lifts up off the platform, pulls in tight, makes the

:13:22. > :13:34.turn very cleanly. That is real power. He has gone into the lead

:13:35. > :13:40.after four. That is the thing about Oleg Verniaiev, you can't write him

:13:41. > :13:44.off. Daniel Purvis, the leader at the

:13:45. > :13:58.halfway stage, needs 14.233 to keep up the momentum.

:13:59. > :14:03.Two 1/2-twist, a tiny buckle, but that will do business. He will stay

:14:04. > :14:18.in the lead with that. Textbook vaulting here. He flipped

:14:19. > :14:28.his head between arms, lifts up, wraps so efficiently. Just the

:14:29. > :14:34.little pace. Really clean and strong. He had a little look over

:14:35. > :14:38.his shoulder so he knew where the floor was. That will do very nicely,

:14:39. > :14:47.15. That is truly world-class. Keep it

:14:48. > :15:02.up, Dan. Oleg Verniaiev gave Daniel a little

:15:03. > :15:23.bit of a fright there but Daniel is now in the lead.

:15:24. > :15:28.The parallel bars is a very challenging apparatus. It has to be

:15:29. > :15:57.millimetre perfect. That was a good combination. He took

:15:58. > :16:07.the decision to leave the hand where it was. A good decision. A double

:16:08. > :16:14.pike. A few moments of insecurity but generally, that routine was

:16:15. > :16:19.good. He has made good progress on parallel bars. Yes, here's a classy

:16:20. > :16:33.gymnast. The difficulty has increased but it

:16:34. > :16:42.looked a bit hard work in certain areas. Lovely shapes. I am sure it

:16:43. > :16:47.is a routine which we will see improved in difficulty in confidence

:16:48. > :17:07.as he goes along. He lifted into a good double pike.

:17:08. > :17:13.For a man who got a bronze medal in the world Championships on this

:17:14. > :17:37.apparatus, that should be small beer for him but he can be erratic.

:17:38. > :17:46.This is the sort of form he demonstrated in Antwerp just a month

:17:47. > :18:02.or so ago. That was a lovely half term.

:18:03. > :18:13.This is good work from John Orozco won one of his favourite apparatus.

:18:14. > :18:18.A good Healy. Inward pirouette. He lost to shape a little bit but the

:18:19. > :18:25.double pike, he sticks that and that is why he is a medallist at world

:18:26. > :18:29.championship level. Good stuff. A beautiful lift into the dismount. He

:18:30. > :18:31.was way high above the parallel bars when he did his double back

:18:32. > :18:54.somersault. Super technique there. That was a

:18:55. > :19:03.tiny break in shape. You love this, Chris. I love the height of the

:19:04. > :19:09.bars. He uses it so well. John Orozco is looking relaxed and so he

:19:10. > :19:11.should with that score. He set himself the target of the

:19:12. > :19:37.possibility of a third place in. When you are that tall, you can see

:19:38. > :19:38.how you need to use those shapes fro cleverly to get them in the right

:19:39. > :19:57.sequence. He was off a bit quick but very,

:19:58. > :20:03.very nice from Fabian Gonzales. Tall, elegant, very stylish. In just

:20:04. > :20:08.the way he makes the rings look very hard, you make the parallel bars

:20:09. > :20:13.look easy. A really nice rhythm. Works with the apparatus

:20:14. > :20:16.beautifully. He uses the bounce from the bars at exactly the right

:20:17. > :20:37.moment. It looks really classy. A beautiful routine. A little bit

:20:38. > :20:46.deep on the landing but the work on the bars was superb.

:20:47. > :20:54.Fabian Gonzales 's second at the moment. Now Andre Likhovitskiy, Mr

:20:55. > :21:15.style will stop. He understands completely the

:21:16. > :21:33.techniques. That was lovely. There is the Healy to upper arms.

:21:34. > :21:40.That is a well put together exercise.

:21:41. > :21:50.Just a tiny pace forward. That was lovely work. Effortless. I think we

:21:51. > :21:57.have said, on most pieces of apparatus, he makes it look so easy.

:21:58. > :22:05.Style, control, not the most difficult routines, but really well

:22:06. > :22:10.timed. Super turn. Kicks out just at the right moment. Very good

:22:11. > :22:15.technique on all of those under somersault actions. He bent his arms

:22:16. > :22:20.a little bit but he really is a stylist. It might come down to

:22:21. > :22:29.difficulty but this is lovely to watch.

:22:30. > :22:44.He is strong but mostly he uses technique. A very impressive

:22:45. > :22:53.gymnast. Andre Likhovitskiy has popped into the lead. Style has seen

:22:54. > :23:01.him through. Oleg Verniaiev now. He is in the situation where he needs

:23:02. > :23:23.14.266 to take the lead and he is more than capable of that.

:23:24. > :23:32.What happened the? He was not happy with the handstand. Maybe the bar

:23:33. > :23:37.moved, do not know. He has made a complaint. This could be a bit of

:23:38. > :23:46.controversy. You can see it is moving quite noticeably. Oleg

:23:47. > :23:48.Verniaiev is about to start his second attempt at the parallel bars.

:23:49. > :24:20.He needs to keep his focus. He had to bend his arms in the

:24:21. > :24:21.second under somersault. That was difficult work and he has survived

:24:22. > :24:42.it well. Was that a very quick thinking

:24:43. > :24:45.exercise on his part? The double pike was clean and high. Oleg

:24:46. > :24:58.Verniaiev is on course. Little bit of a shaky start. He was

:24:59. > :25:05.fighting the apparatus a bit at the beginning. Very difficult work but

:25:06. > :25:10.certainly, once he settled into the routine, his usual style and

:25:11. > :25:20.composure serviced. Such height and swing up to the handstand.

:25:21. > :25:34.In press of stuff. -- impressive stuff. A superb routine. You cannot

:25:35. > :25:56.write Oleg Verniaiev off. Superb work.

:25:57. > :26:01.He really needs to keep his focus but he has lost that position. He is

:26:02. > :26:16.having to think very quickly. After that squeaky start he is back

:26:17. > :26:34.on course. Did he make contact then? It sounded

:26:35. > :26:45.a bit heavy. He has got to keep focus. There was a little hop to the

:26:46. > :26:46.side. For the first time, his lead is in jeopardy. Oleg Verniaiev gave

:26:47. > :27:00.him a difficult task. He hesitated a little bit. You could

:27:01. > :27:06.see from the time he took, he was a bit cautious about it. He covered it

:27:07. > :27:12.well though. He dropped his hit a little bit. It was not the smoothest

:27:13. > :27:22.of starts. -- he dropped his hit a little bit.

:27:23. > :27:32.He killed his swing too much. You do not want to much but you need enough

:27:33. > :27:39.to get you up there. He recovered very well. He has got such a good

:27:40. > :27:43.line. A lovely front somersault. I do not think he hit the bar. On the

:27:44. > :27:59.replay looked cleaner. He will set up a great finale on

:28:00. > :28:21.high bar. Goodness me, it has all come down to

:28:22. > :28:26.this. It is literally down to the wire. Oleg Verniaiev is very

:28:27. > :28:30.consistent on this. Guess, I would have said before the competition if

:28:31. > :28:34.he was going to fall anywhere, it would be the high bar. That was what

:28:35. > :28:38.he did at the world championship. It will be interesting. We will be

:28:39. > :28:42.watching this with sweaty palms. Come on, Dan Purvis. After this, the

:28:43. > :29:07.champion will be crowned. He was the gold medallist as a

:29:08. > :29:15.junior in 2010. You can expect him to pass that score.

:29:16. > :29:25.That was a peculiar action down the back but he got away with it. Good

:29:26. > :29:39.catch of technique. Lovely, clean straight arms.

:29:40. > :29:55.Some shaky moments but he is going to survive it. Thank you very much,

:29:56. > :30:00.double twisting, double straight, punches the air and that was grit

:30:01. > :30:04.and determination all the way. It was indeed with some new elements in

:30:05. > :30:09.there. He scrabbled bit in the middle but he will be very delighted

:30:10. > :30:18.with putting all that work together in this pressurised situation.

:30:19. > :30:27.He put the hands-on in the wrong grip. He did very well to change it.

:30:28. > :30:41.How quick did he think? He is a great gymnast.

:30:42. > :30:48.86.331 is an impressive all-around score.

:30:49. > :31:01.John Orozco finishes on his best apparatus. After an indifferent

:31:02. > :31:02.first half, he started the revival on the vault, shot into contention

:31:03. > :31:22.after parallel bars. Oh, and he is off! It is a big skill

:31:23. > :31:25.to put a full turn in that. It is a big, big move. What a pity, he

:31:26. > :31:37.deserved to hang onto this. The trouble is the body is quite out

:31:38. > :31:39.of line. He got a lot of forces going through the hands. It is a

:31:40. > :32:10.big, big skill. You can see what this routine would

:32:11. > :32:19.normally bring him. It is such a pity for him.

:32:20. > :32:28.Orozco is showing us what he is capable of.

:32:29. > :32:33.It looked a little bit flat, but he got it under control. What a pity

:32:34. > :32:49.for him. Lovely, exciting stuff. Good original work. He is lovely and

:32:50. > :33:00.tight. That was another deduction. He was struggling to keep the swing

:33:01. > :33:06.going. But a super catch with a good stretch. No interrupted swing. It

:33:07. > :33:17.looked very flat. He didn't open his hips as he came off. A bit of an

:33:18. > :33:21.up-and-down routine. 13.866, think what would have happened if he had

:33:22. > :33:33.kept contact. John Orozco is in the lead.

:33:34. > :33:44.This is good apparatus for Andre Likhovitskiy. He was 12 all-around

:33:45. > :33:53.in the World Championships. -- he was 12.

:33:54. > :34:01.When you have a gymnast who can swing like this, you can pin the

:34:02. > :34:08.difficulty onto it. At 20 years of age, he has a very promising future.

:34:09. > :34:15.That is the cleanest of those combinations we have seen. Shades of

:34:16. > :34:23.the 70s. People think this style is new because it is so old. He does it

:34:24. > :34:28.very, very well. Full-twist and a double straight, and a consummate

:34:29. > :34:32.demonstration. Keep the routine within your capabilities and you

:34:33. > :34:38.will score well. He is a great, great gymnast in the making.

:34:39. > :34:44.And made a lot of friends here in Glasgow. His work has been a

:34:45. > :34:52.macular. Every element has been performed well. -- his work has been

:34:53. > :34:57.immaculate. Stamping his own style on a lot of the work. And it is

:34:58. > :35:05.style, that is the word, it is style.

:35:06. > :35:14.That throw over took a lot of courage. So impressive.

:35:15. > :35:21.It was a very impressive routine. The judges agreed, 15.066 for Andre

:35:22. > :35:30.Likhovitskiy, he is in the lead with a very good score of 88.597. That is

:35:31. > :35:37.his best ever. Daniel Purvis needs 14.03 to two

:35:38. > :35:42.overhaul the Belarussian, Andre Likhovitskiy.

:35:43. > :35:50.The roar of the crowd will boost him. He has been in the lead all the

:35:51. > :36:21.way through. Just a little trip in the parallel bars.

:36:22. > :36:34.He has played safe here. The D score is down, so he had to nail the

:36:35. > :36:41.dismount, but it was a good dismount. He needed to go through,

:36:42. > :36:46.he did not need to take chances. Weldon, Daniel Purvis. It was a very

:36:47. > :36:51.clean routine. He did not give many marks away. His difficulty score

:36:52. > :37:02.will not be the highest, but his execution score might be. You can

:37:03. > :37:15.see his release and re-grasp. A good work on the pirouette.

:37:16. > :37:33.He is able to come out cleanly. Great competition.

:37:34. > :37:38.14.566, good enough, 89.131, a very impressive score. He is in first

:37:39. > :37:51.place at the moment, one big threat to come. Here here's, Oleg

:37:52. > :37:55.Verniaiev. -- here he is. 14.233 is required, and, dare I say it, he has

:37:56. > :37:59.been known to buckle under pressure on high bar? Member the World

:38:00. > :38:07.Championships, he had about four goes. But last 18... Weekend he

:38:08. > :38:46.nailed it, so let's see. You can hear a pin drop in here. The

:38:47. > :38:58.bar creaking, the only sound you can here. He is going through very well.

:38:59. > :39:05.Just the pace back, double double, he claps his hands. He feels he has

:39:06. > :39:15.done enough. I am sure he has done the job. All his work has always

:39:16. > :39:23.been so stylish. Very, very nice work. That was the error. He lost

:39:24. > :39:32.the combination. We will see how the judges view that. He needs 14.266,

:39:33. > :39:36.from memory. High bar scores are pretty tough to come by. It will be

:39:37. > :39:54.tight. Oleg Verniaiev has 14.9, a huge

:39:55. > :40:00.score of 89.798 to take the Glasgow World Cup event for the men. He had

:40:01. > :40:04.his moments but, my goodness me, he overhauled Dan Purvis on parallel

:40:05. > :40:09.bars to emerge victorious. Dan Purvis, a great job to take second

:40:10. > :40:17.place, but that man is hugely impressive.

:40:18. > :40:20.Oleg Verniaiev came good on parallel bars after a superb fold to get the

:40:21. > :40:26.edge of the Daniel Purvis who had, in the end, after leading the

:40:27. > :40:33.competition, to be content with a silver medal. Andre Likhovitskiy's

:40:34. > :40:39.style won him a bronze medal. John Orozco had a problem, so he dropped

:40:40. > :40:45.down. Sam Oldham is down in seventh place. There they are. Three very

:40:46. > :40:52.exciting young gymnast with a great future.

:40:53. > :40:58.I am happy to be finishing the year healthy. Going into next year, I

:40:59. > :41:00.know the routines I have got, serve them were watered down today. I was

:41:01. > :41:46.fighting down. You cut the consistency going. --

:41:47. > :41:50.kept the consistency going? It was tough, but the crowd kept me going.

:41:51. > :41:54.It was a battle between me and Verniaiev until the end. Isn't it

:41:55. > :41:59.great when the all-around competition comes down to the final

:42:00. > :42:06.apparatus? What a competition! It has been really exciting. Having a

:42:07. > :42:12.few mistakes made it more exciting, making it go down to the final piece

:42:13. > :42:17.of apparatus. What do you think Dan would have been hoping for, coming

:42:18. > :42:23.into this? Up until the last minute we thought it was gold? He would

:42:24. > :42:27.have been hoping to go through all six routines clean and hopefully

:42:28. > :42:32.ending up with a medal, he has done better than that, he and Scott

:42:33. > :42:37.Silver, almost gold. He has done himself proud. -- he has got

:42:38. > :42:48.silver. He has tried out the new routines as well? Yes, and this is

:42:49. > :42:52.the best place to try it. Good news for you, you will be competing

:42:53. > :42:59.together at the Commonwealth Games? A fellow team-mate? It will be great

:43:00. > :43:03.to have him alongside me, competing in Scotland at the Commonwealth

:43:04. > :43:08.Games. He is on fire, hopefully he can keep his form. Gymnast that you

:43:09. > :43:12.are used to competing with in the British team will be split into

:43:13. > :43:17.European countries and you are competing against them? It is a

:43:18. > :43:20.strange feeling but it is a great opportunity for some younger

:43:21. > :43:25.gymnasts to experience the international stage. It is weird to

:43:26. > :43:29.be separated but it is great for the younger gymnasts to get an

:43:30. > :43:34.opportunity. A weird feeling that this is the end of season for the

:43:35. > :43:38.gymnast? This is the final all-around competition of the year,

:43:39. > :43:42.so people will be looking forward to the Christmas period and then pick

:43:43. > :43:46.it up next year. A few pounds will be put on over the next week, let's

:43:47. > :43:52.have some Christmas pudding to celebrate ex-Asian mob that is it

:43:53. > :44:01.from us in bars go, don't forget that Final Score is starting, and

:44:02. > :44:02.don't forget he... To vote for your favourite in Sports Personality of

:44:03. > :44:05.the Year. Goodbye.
