:00:00. > :00:00.with another edition at 11:40pm. But from Copacabana is turn our

:00:00. > :00:57.attention to Silverstone. It is time for Inside F1 with Lee McKenzie.

:00:58. > :01:05.summertime mixer sunshine and rain but it created a fascinating

:01:06. > :01:14.qualifying. Eddie Jordan joins me. I know the strike means a lot to you.

:01:15. > :01:21.I spent 25 years of my life here. I loved every minute of it. It is a

:01:22. > :01:27.great example of high technology. Eight of the teams currently in

:01:28. > :01:31.Formula One are positioned around here and a lot of the little

:01:32. > :01:35.businesses are wrapped the pinnacle of the highest level of technology.

:01:36. > :01:41.This is a very important area to Britain. It is amazing to see the

:01:42. > :01:47.number of great British drivers as we have had. And great British cars.

:01:48. > :01:51.Sometimes we forget how brilliant these cars were and now we're back

:01:52. > :01:55.in a Renaissance when we're back in a time when the great cars being

:01:56. > :02:01.built here. It is a successful time for drivers and cars. The

:02:02. > :02:06.grandstands were packed as qualifying got underway. One of the

:02:07. > :02:17.strangest qualifying sessions of recent memory began in jump

:02:18. > :02:26.conditions. `` damp conditions. As the track dried, slick tyres became

:02:27. > :02:36.the favourite choice. Ferrari and Williams left the challenge the last

:02:37. > :02:39.moment just as rain fell again. The two Williams cars that had been so

:02:40. > :02:49.successful in Austria were out immediately. In another last`minute

:02:50. > :02:58.flurry of times, Lewis Hamilton was again fastest. Slick tyres are

:02:59. > :03:08.required for Q3 but the track was still slippery and places. Nico

:03:09. > :03:16.Rosberg reported more rain. Mercedes went ahead again and Lewis Hamilton

:03:17. > :03:19.was on top once again. It looked as though the times were set the

:03:20. > :03:24.drivers went out in the last moments just in case. Lewis Hamilton

:03:25. > :03:29.completed the first sector and saw that he was slower than before so I

:03:30. > :03:37.allowed Nico Rosberg to pass. Suddenly tyres were improving. Nico

:03:38. > :03:42.Rosberg scorched around Silverstone to claim pole position today after

:03:43. > :03:45.disbelief and dejection to Lewis Hamilton who had abandoned his lap

:03:46. > :03:53.altogether. This error of judgement will see him start sixth on the

:03:54. > :04:15.grid. It was definitely a wacky day at the races. I'm really happy to be

:04:16. > :04:26.heard and it means a lot to family and friends and whatever happens to

:04:27. > :04:36.tomorrow. , it will be good. I was good enough to keep the car in the

:04:37. > :04:39.front row. I was stuck in the gearbox of Lewis Hamilton and I was

:04:40. > :04:51.forced into that position because I ran out of time. He aborted and I

:04:52. > :04:54.knew the chance was there even if I get that slower, I can make back all

:04:55. > :05:04.the time in the last three laps and I made up a huge chunk in the last

:05:05. > :05:09.three corners. How did Ferrari and Williams get it so wrong? This is

:05:10. > :05:15.the worst qualifying for both of them for such a long time. Both

:05:16. > :05:19.teams have such experience and have been world champions and you would

:05:20. > :05:22.expect for them to maximise on the uncertainty of the weather. This was

:05:23. > :05:27.the time they should have excelled, particularly Ferrari. They have

:05:28. > :05:33.drivers capable of getting up there, both world champions themselves and

:05:34. > :05:37.an unfavourable circumstances and conditions such as we had today,

:05:38. > :05:42.that is when you would expect them to make a move. The track dried out

:05:43. > :05:47.so quickly but Lewis Hamilton should have stayed? He made a major blunder

:05:48. > :05:52.and that was that he underestimated the condition of the track and it is

:05:53. > :05:56.the option for the driver to know when the right time is to push and

:05:57. > :06:03.not the right time to push Andy completely made a mistake. He

:06:04. > :06:08.underestimated the speed that was left in the track, certainly the

:06:09. > :06:12.third section. That is where Nico Rosberg psychologically, as well as

:06:13. > :06:17.with speed, pounced on that opportunity and that was the fault

:06:18. > :06:22.of Nico Rosberg. Surely by being out, you can only gain but you will

:06:23. > :06:26.not lose anything? Some people would say it was a form of arrogance and

:06:27. > :06:46.others would say it was futile selectors minimise the damage to a

:06:47. > :06:53.gearbox. ``so let us four. Lewis Hamilton said he was bitterly

:06:54. > :07:00.disappointed by what happened in Q3. Could you believe what result? We

:07:01. > :07:07.were expecting pole position six this is not what we were hoping

:07:08. > :07:14.for. We were hoping for more but we have fingers crossed for tomorrow.

:07:15. > :07:18.It will be difficult for tomorrow. I think he will be good tomorrow and

:07:19. > :07:23.we're hoping for that anyway. He said it was his own mistake. He has

:07:24. > :07:32.not had the rub of the green this year, has he? Letters be honest.

:07:33. > :07:52.Jenson button is in the top three. ``so let us ``Jensen Button Lewis

:07:53. > :08:00.Hamilton has a lot to do but the crowd are feeling positive. You have

:08:01. > :08:05.a team that is not quite anchored to the back of the grid but when that

:08:06. > :08:10.is a glimmer of hope they pounce on it, finishing eighth and then ninth

:08:11. > :08:13.in that race which got them two points which brings a lot to ninth

:08:14. > :08:20.place the championship and then capitalising on it here. I think

:08:21. > :08:24.they are lovely little team and they're putting in true fighting

:08:25. > :08:32.spirit which everyone wants to see from the underdogs.

:08:33. > :09:19.Jensen Button starts on third. Do you think that Lewis Hamilton can

:09:20. > :09:24.cut through the field? I still believe he can win this race. I

:09:25. > :09:29.haven't never met a driver so gobsmacked. You could see that he

:09:30. > :09:35.was still wounded by the mistake and he has the ability such as Nigel

:09:36. > :09:42.Mansell did with the crowd behind them. We want to win. We are live on

:09:43. > :09:47.BBC Two tomorrow from 12 o'clock. We have some great pictures including

:09:48. > :10:14.the spectacularly from Lewis Hamilton. Thank you, Eddie, and

:10:15. > :10:15.thank you to you at home. Most of us will see sunny weather and showers
