:00:00. > :00:46.Now on Sportsday, it's time for our first Inside Six Nations of 2016.

:00:47. > :00:56.Welcome from Murrayfield ahead of the start of the Six Nations. This

:00:57. > :00:59.is our first inside Six Nationses of 2016.

:01:00. > :01:02.Humbled by the Southern hemisphere sides at last year's World Cup,

:01:03. > :01:04.not one of the home nations reached the semi finals.

:01:05. > :01:06.But with seven weeks of six nations action to come,

:01:07. > :01:11.it offers the perfect chance to wipe the slate clean.

:01:12. > :01:20.Surely one of darkest days in England rugby history. There are

:01:21. > :01:26.many heartbrok Welsh fans. Ireland are out. Some of the Scotland fans

:01:27. > :01:33.might be going home fuming. A brand-new Championship. Good feet by

:01:34. > :01:48.Joseph. Excellent hands and feet and scores. What a try for Ireland,

:01:49. > :01:50.scoring again. And Murrayfield erupts. That is more like it from

:01:51. > :02:01.Wales. None more so than for Scotland

:02:02. > :02:05.who came agonisingly close The first home nations match

:02:06. > :02:12.of the tournament sees Scotland, the team that arguably performed

:02:13. > :02:15.the best last autumn facing England Having been kicked out

:02:16. > :02:34.of their own party early, England have rung the changes -

:02:35. > :02:38.more on that in a moment. But after a great showing three

:02:39. > :02:41.months ago, are Scotland on course to produce something

:02:42. > :02:43.special this year. Phil Goodlad has the latest

:02:44. > :03:01.from the Scotland camp. It may be four months ago but World

:03:02. > :03:07.Cup wounds run deep. Scotland still carry the scars of that late

:03:08. > :03:11.heartache against Australia. I will take that to my grave and I say that

:03:12. > :03:16.truthfully. For it to end like that was difficult to take. But we can't

:03:17. > :03:20.feel sorry for ourself. No one is going to give us anything easy or

:03:21. > :03:27.feel sorry for us. There is a sense still of what might have been at the

:03:28. > :03:31.World Cup. Two minutes to go and a semi-final against Argentina and who

:03:32. > :03:34.knows what after that. For the players comes the challenge of

:03:35. > :03:41.harnessing that disappointment and putting it to good use. Hastings has

:03:42. > :03:46.burst away. Former Murrayfield greats agree. They have got to take

:03:47. > :03:50.the positives and take them into this Six Nations. I think Vern has

:03:51. > :03:53.got the players believing in themselves and we have got a

:03:54. > :03:59.talented group of players now. But they have got to go out and do it.

:04:00. > :04:03.Facing England tomorrow may be the best way to shake off a World Cup

:04:04. > :04:10.hangover and do something Scotland done done in eight long years. We

:04:11. > :04:15.are confident we can go out and do a job. There is no better game to play

:04:16. > :04:21.in. We will hopefully be celebrating at end of the weekend. Turning World

:04:22. > :04:23.Cup pain into snakes delight -- Six Nations delight is the task facing

:04:24. > :04:27.Scotland. A settled Scotland

:04:28. > :04:30.against a new look England. As Eddie Jones comes in as head

:04:31. > :04:33.coach and Dylan Hartley takes over as Captain - what else can we expect

:04:34. > :04:52.from this England side For English rugby the appetite for

:04:53. > :04:56.success remains undiminished. 2015 was a bruising year, but now a

:04:57. > :05:02.opportunity to start afresh with a new coach and all that is past is

:05:03. > :05:06.past. It is not my job to delve back into history. I can't turn the side

:05:07. > :05:13.around 360 degrees in two weeks, but we have spoken about the way we want

:05:14. > :05:18.to play and the players have been enthusiastic about, it is more about

:05:19. > :05:24.an attacking mind set. But there are lessons to be learned. The World Cup

:05:25. > :05:32.was a disappointment. Their exit swift and the fall out equally so.

:05:33. > :05:36.Now hopes of brighter times ahead. Dylan Hartley's appointment as

:05:37. > :05:40.question raised questions, not least his disciplinary record, having

:05:41. > :05:45.missed over a year of his career with suspensions. It has gone wrong

:05:46. > :05:49.in the past. But the past will stay there. If I was going to back down

:05:50. > :05:54.from a challenge I wouldn't be here. So I am here again and I want to do

:05:55. > :05:59.good and I will work hard and try and lead. Hartley the leader on the

:06:00. > :06:07.field, the message to him is loud and clear. On the field he has got

:06:08. > :06:11.go out there and play with his hearts and if he does the players

:06:12. > :06:15.will follow him. Players following the leadership is one thing, where

:06:16. > :06:20.that leads them is about become a litter clearer. -- little clearer.

:06:21. > :06:22.Earlier I spoke to Scotland's record point scorer,

:06:23. > :06:25.Chris Paterson, and started by asking him could this be this

:06:26. > :06:40.The Championships are always tight. These games are decided on such fine

:06:41. > :06:45.margins and in that Championship we won our opening game against France

:06:46. > :06:49.here and that gave us the momentum and we won three games and beat

:06:50. > :06:55.Italy and England. Can they do that again? I think they can. Could it be

:06:56. > :06:59.the wrong side of the results, yes, the games are so fine, it takes

:07:00. > :07:04.clear decision making and calmness under pressure to come on the right

:07:05. > :07:09.side. Eddie Jones has been playing mind games and suggested Scotland

:07:10. > :07:18.are favourites, do you believe him? I don't think so. The English side

:07:19. > :07:22.has 512 test caps. Scotland are 483. It is more experienced. That is

:07:23. > :07:26.crucial for England. No matter how many caps you have had it is

:07:27. > :07:31.important for the English players that have experienced the hostile

:07:32. > :07:37.atmosphere at Murrayfield and all the starters have played before.

:07:38. > :07:42.Eddie Jones knows that. I expect England to be dominant with the ball

:07:43. > :07:49.in hand up front trying to keep from it the back row that Scotland have

:07:50. > :07:53.chosen. But they have some star dust with Wilson and others. If they have

:07:54. > :08:01.their hands on the ball they can cause damage. Scotland have to

:08:02. > :08:06.concentrate on themselves. A lot has been made of Dylan Hartley's

:08:07. > :08:11.appoint. Do you think Scotland will try and target him? I think they

:08:12. > :08:17.will try and target everyone. He is an experienced campaigner and has

:08:18. > :08:21.been a captain for a good number of seasons and knows what will be

:08:22. > :08:24.coming his way. He will deal with that. But he will deal with

:08:25. > :08:29.tomorrow, but between now and the end of Six Nations there will be a

:08:30. > :08:33.flash point and we see how mature he will be. But he is a good leader.

:08:34. > :08:37.But it will be met with a bit of fire here tomorrow.

:08:38. > :08:40.Ireland are chasing an unprecedented third six nations title in a row

:08:41. > :08:43.and open against Wales, who have a knack of playing well

:08:44. > :08:48.in this tournament following a world cup year.

:08:49. > :08:51.In a match which could well determine the destination of this

:08:52. > :08:53.year's title Thomas Niblock and Euan Griffiths weigh up the mood

:08:54. > :09:04.It will be tight and conditions will probably make it tighter, because it

:09:05. > :09:11.is going to be more difficult to be able to get the open space and

:09:12. > :09:15.possibly try to get the gaps between players and they don't leave too

:09:16. > :09:19.many. I think their defence is so steadfast it is so difficult to

:09:20. > :09:25.break down. You have to make sure that everyone's on the same page and

:09:26. > :09:32.that your very accurate in what you do. We are going to a place which

:09:33. > :09:35.obviously we experience twod years ago and it wasn't a pleasant

:09:36. > :09:40.experience and you remember those moments, you remember the day and I

:09:41. > :09:45.know we have gone back there since in terms of the World Cup friendly.

:09:46. > :09:48.I think we are not looking past that first game and momentum can give us

:09:49. > :09:55.will be huge and something we are looking forward to and we have got a

:09:56. > :10:04.vastly experienced side and we are looking forward to playing Ireland

:10:05. > :10:10.on Sunday. Let's get more from Chris. I got his thought and asked

:10:11. > :10:16.him what the chances are of Ireland winning that third title in a row. I

:10:17. > :10:23.think they have lost a lot of experience. They're a quality team

:10:24. > :10:35.and have a top notch coach. But they have lost experience with O'Connell,

:10:36. > :10:42.a big hole to fill. Tommy Bowe and guys like that. We have spoken about

:10:43. > :10:47.how momentum is key. So Ireland will have gaps to fill with the players

:10:48. > :10:52.who are unavailable. But the players coming in will be you know clear of

:10:53. > :10:56.what are expected of them and I think they will get off to a tough

:10:57. > :11:00.start against Wales chl I think Wales may sneak it. Wales have

:11:01. > :11:07.history of performing well after a World Cup year and won the Scotland

:11:08. > :11:15.Grand Slam in 2008. Do you think it could be their year? I do. Because

:11:16. > :11:20.of the northern hemisphere faems, I felt the Welsh guys dealt with the

:11:21. > :11:24.physicality. I was looky to be at Twickenham for game with South

:11:25. > :11:30.Africa and I have never seen such a physical performance from Wales.

:11:31. > :11:34.They kept getting up and dealt with the physicality better than any

:11:35. > :11:39.northern hemisphere side. And they're settled and know the game

:11:40. > :11:47.plan. The big players always play well and I think they will be

:11:48. > :12:08.formidable. Here the fixtures in full.

:12:09. > :12:15.You can keep across all those matches on the BBC.

:12:16. > :12:17.Significantly that match at the Stade De France tomorrow

:12:18. > :12:22.will be the first at the stadium since November's terror attacks

:12:23. > :12:31.on the city of Paris when the stadium was targeted

:12:32. > :12:33.as the French football team played a friendly there with Germany.

:12:34. > :12:35.There will be increased security presence at the game,

:12:36. > :12:37.in what's being described as the biggest security operation

:12:38. > :12:47.seen at a sporting event in the country.

:12:48. > :12:55.Of course all thoughts with those who were affected in those terrorist

:12:56. > :12:59.attacks in Paris back in November. Well of course, it is not just the

:13:00. > :13:03.men's tournament which is taking place, the women's Six Nations is

:13:04. > :13:07.already under way and England's women are taking on Scotland at the

:13:08. > :13:12.moment. Looking to improve on what was a disappointment performance

:13:13. > :13:18.from them at last year's Six Nations, where they finished fourth.

:13:19. > :13:29.But of course they have got off to a positive start and lead 15-0 at half

:13:30. > :13:33.time. England on their way to what could be a good start. But Ireland

:13:34. > :13:37.are dominating in the women's competition as well. They're looking

:13:38. > :13:41.to achieve what the men are on course to do, win a third title in a

:13:42. > :13:47.row. But of course they open against Wales as well and their captain

:13:48. > :13:52.isn't, is expecting a tough match. For now that is all from inside Six

:13:53. > :13:59.Nations and I have to say it is, you have to go back to 1990 when

:14:00. > :14:06.Scotland last won the Grand Slam, but at the moment it is goodbye from

:14:07. > :14:07.me at Murrayfield and time for the weather.
