:00:08. > :00:23.Glenavon Mike Sid bottom. It's here. It's upon us. The annual pilgrimage.
:00:24. > :00:30.Football's showpiece. Passion. Drama. Twists. Turns. Fans. Heroes.
:00:31. > :00:54.Lifting the cup. Welcome to Windsor Park to the 136th
:00:55. > :01:00.Irish Cup Final and they have come out in their thousands, the rain is
:01:01. > :01:04.here, there are 11,000 and counting and they are here to enjoy arguably
:01:05. > :01:10.the biggest single day in local football. It's Linfield against
:01:11. > :01:16.Glenavon, the Irish Cup Final and it's live here on BBC Northern
:01:17. > :01:20.Ireland. Afternoon, you're all very, very
:01:21. > :01:23.welcome to the show, not least my studio guests Chris Morgan and
:01:24. > :01:30.Stephen Baxter. Chris, massive day, which way is it going to go? I don't
:01:31. > :01:34.know. I tipped glen avenuen at the start, the first round of the cup, I
:01:35. > :01:39.had a fancy for them, they normally finish the season really well and
:01:40. > :01:43.have done so again, they are in good form. They are up against a good
:01:44. > :01:50.team also in form so I've tipped them at the start and can't change
:01:51. > :01:55.now but it will be a close game. Stephen? If we get the open flowing
:01:56. > :02:00.football that we got where both teams go for it a bit, we'll be in
:02:01. > :02:04.for a great game with the bunker crowd and the wet pitch which always
:02:05. > :02:16.creates a few mistakes and two teams that are really playing well.
:02:17. > :02:23.Glenavon have a few good ones in their team. I appreciate you both
:02:24. > :02:27.being here in this game. Every kick of every ball coming your way this
:02:28. > :02:41.afternoon. The teams arrived a short time ago. There's Gary, Paul,
:02:42. > :02:45.Millar, the player/manager there. And Braniff who bagged four in the
:02:46. > :02:50.semi-final. What can we read into the body language? Owen Bradley
:02:51. > :02:59.shaking hands with the Maestro. He's brought half of Glenavon we are told
:03:00. > :03:05.this afternoon. David Healey's boyhood club. Maybe more nerves
:03:06. > :03:09.there, Andy Waterworth, the captain, Niall Quinn texting to say he's on
:03:10. > :03:14.the bench today and Jackie Fullerton, David Jeffrey and David
:03:15. > :03:18.Healey, what a trio! Let's shine the Spotlight on Glenavon and the
:03:19. > :03:26.player/manager in particular. Gary Hamilton's been the bringer of
:03:27. > :03:41.success, stability and silverware. It's time for them to celebrate.
:03:42. > :03:49.Thankfully for me, it's got better and better every year. Last season
:03:50. > :04:01.finished third in the league. It's been great.
:04:02. > :04:06.The fans are great, the way they treat the players, looking after the
:04:07. > :04:09.players and staff, it's unbelievable. It's not like any
:04:10. > :04:16.other football club I've ever been part of. We've got that never say
:04:17. > :04:18.die attitude. We are an honest, hard-working team, the team spirit
:04:19. > :04:33.is unbelievable. It was the best feeling for me ever.
:04:34. > :04:37.To be with your home town team, to support them all your life, to be
:04:38. > :04:41.the manager and end up coming on to the pitch and playing a wee bit of a
:04:42. > :04:45.part in it, and getting the win, there is no better feeling than
:04:46. > :04:50.that. Fantastic scenes, Gary Hamilton hugging his grandfather.
:04:51. > :04:58.It's unbelievable because my grandad's still going strong now. At
:04:59. > :05:02.that time he took a couple of wee turns and it was emotional for me
:05:03. > :05:07.because I thought it could be the last time he saw me playing but he
:05:08. > :05:14.survived, he's going great. Smythe! I think a final touch was there and
:05:15. > :05:22.Burns has broken the deadlock and Linfield will be back for the Cup
:05:23. > :05:26.Final! We go back a long way. I went to Blackburn when he was at
:05:27. > :05:28.Manchester United, so we saw each other at school every Thursday
:05:29. > :05:33.because we went to the same school over there. It's funny saying this,
:05:34. > :05:36.but he was a hero of mine, only a year older than me, but the way he
:05:37. > :05:43.scored goals for Northern Ireland, in my time, he's been the best ever
:05:44. > :05:46.and it's great now, probably about 20 years on, since we are playing
:05:47. > :05:49.together, we are going to be standing in the dug-outs together in
:05:50. > :05:57.the Irish Cup Final. Whose name will be on that trophy? !
:05:58. > :06:01.There he is, grandad, among the 4500-strong Glenavon support. Chris,
:06:02. > :06:05.unquestionably a fine footballer but maturing all the while, Gary
:06:06. > :06:10.Hamilton as a manager? No doubt. His ability as a player. I was fortunate
:06:11. > :06:17.enough to play with im. Incredibly gifted striker. Could do everything
:06:18. > :06:21.as a front player. Not the most conventional manager ever I would
:06:22. > :06:26.have thought. You are right, he's maturing and he's a fine manager,
:06:27. > :06:30.already won one Irish Cup, potential to win another today, not too many
:06:31. > :06:36.would argue with that appointment now. A broad smile on your face,
:06:37. > :06:40.Stephen. Hold that thought! Outside of George Best best, this man's
:06:41. > :06:44.probably Northern Ireland's most iconic footballer. He's been in
:06:45. > :06:48.charge of the club since November of last year, the ride has been bumpy
:06:49. > :06:56.at times. He's of course David Healey.
:06:57. > :07:09.When I first came in and took the job, an Irish Cup Final was a long
:07:10. > :07:19.way off, so it was one of the targets. Especially when we lost to
:07:20. > :07:24.Ballymena. It was a game I fully expected us to win. We didn't do
:07:25. > :07:28.enough to win it. The players grouped after the game and I said it
:07:29. > :07:37.hurt me that night losing the Cup Final.
:07:38. > :07:45.I've had many tough times as a player, but as a manager, you take
:07:46. > :07:48.full responsibility for picking the team at half time and before the
:07:49. > :07:54.game people were saying Linfield haven't lost for three in a row, if
:07:55. > :08:03.they lose one more, it's going to be 1859 or something. It hurts. It
:08:04. > :08:06.really did hurt. People were questioning me, is he doing a good
:08:07. > :08:11.job, does he know enough about the league and this, that and the other.
:08:12. > :08:15.That hurt me because I was a big fan of the Irish league.
:08:16. > :08:20.That could be the winner... I don't think it's me who's got them
:08:21. > :08:27.playing, you know, there's always been a talent in this group of
:08:28. > :08:31.players. I've spoken to the previous managers, David Jeffrey and Warren
:08:32. > :08:35.Feeney and they sort of say, you know, they just lack something, what
:08:36. > :08:40.do they lack and it was down to me to try to find out and give them a
:08:41. > :08:47.little edge to win the games. Mulgrew. Great save! Linfield have
:08:48. > :08:51.done it. We have not won a trophy for four years, the Irish cup, and
:08:52. > :08:59.it's been too long for a club of this size, the standards and
:09:00. > :09:02.demands, recent months what we have done it's down to the players
:09:03. > :09:06.because we have worked hard as a group. Hopefully we'll give a good
:09:07. > :09:10.account of oushess in the final. If we do that, it should be a good game
:09:11. > :09:22.and hopefully we can come out on top. David Healy, his light shines
:09:23. > :09:25.on and on and on but will Glenavon put their lights out this afternoon?
:09:26. > :09:29.Unquestionable talent as a player, but as a manager do you sense after
:09:30. > :09:34.the bumpy start that he's grown into this post? Very much so. I've been
:09:35. > :09:39.very impressed with how he's handled himself in all areas of the job.
:09:40. > :09:42.He's been at a lot of games, watching the junior football and the
:09:43. > :09:45.younger players, he's been around all of Northern Ireland, if you
:09:46. > :09:50.like, trying to search out what he wants and how he'll put his stamp on
:09:51. > :09:56.this and grow players into the team. We have seen that with the
:09:57. > :10:00.introduction of young Paul Smythe. He's brave in his decision-making
:10:01. > :10:04.which is very important. He's made a call today at the goalkeeper and you
:10:05. > :10:07.have to do that, be brave in your decision because you know what you
:10:08. > :10:12.want. Single-minded because the buck stops with you. I'm glad to say he
:10:13. > :10:15.stood up to that today. Right now, let us take the temperature pitch
:10:16. > :10:21.side and say good afternoon to Thomas who is with a couple of
:10:22. > :10:26.familiar faces. Pretty heavy rain here over the past
:10:27. > :10:40.half hour so there is a zip off the surface. A relaxed atmosphere
:10:41. > :10:46.amongst the players, Matthew Clarke and warming up here with his
:10:47. > :10:52.team-mate. Two men who know what it's like to be involved in Cup
:10:53. > :10:57.Finals, not in a playing capacity today though, great atmosphere for
:10:58. > :11:02.the players. What's it been like in the dressing room, nerves from a
:11:03. > :11:07.Glenavon perspective? The boys are settling well. Watched a bit of a
:11:08. > :11:12.video and I think the boy runs for it today. When it comes for goals
:11:13. > :11:15.and Cup Finals, you scored a special one a couple of years ago. Talk us
:11:16. > :11:20.through that strike? Couldn't believe it myself. We are one down,
:11:21. > :11:28.man sent off, we thought, we may as well have a go and it worked out
:11:29. > :11:32.well on the day. You were the man who won the free kick and did all
:11:33. > :11:36.the hard work? I have to say that because that's all I've heard about
:11:37. > :11:40.for the last two years is the old kick. In all fairness to Kyle, it
:11:41. > :11:43.was a great free kick, a great day out. A fantastic performance that
:11:44. > :11:49.day from all the boys and it was a great game. The sending off maybe
:11:50. > :11:51.could have went either way, but we hope there's no controversial
:11:52. > :11:58.refereeing decision today and all round just a good game. Briefly,
:11:59. > :12:03.where is the match going to be won or lost today? I'm not sure. There
:12:04. > :12:07.are match-winners everywhere when you look across both teams so I'm
:12:08. > :12:12.kind of looking around going, if we can get crosses in, Burns is always
:12:13. > :12:17.a threat, you know, then you look on the opposite end, if Braniff shows
:12:18. > :12:23.up, that could be tricky. It will be a fantastic game no matter what way
:12:24. > :12:28.it goes. Thank you very much both of you. A fantastic atmosphere, as I
:12:29. > :12:39.say. The roar of the Lynn peopled fans with the players warming up in
:12:40. > :12:45.front of them -- Linfield fans. Kyle and Guy in opposing camps
:12:46. > :12:48.today. Healy makes the brave calls. In Portsmouth the 18-year-old's made
:12:49. > :13:03.a big call today and he is your one to watch? Very much so.
:13:04. > :13:10.Smyth is a live wire, he looks to get into spaces, that's hard to pick
:13:11. > :13:15.up at times. Look at the space when he gets the ball, five yards of
:13:16. > :13:19.space, the mark of a good striker, that's what it's about upfront.
:13:20. > :13:24.Another brilliant finish here. I was at that game live on the night and
:13:25. > :13:30.he put the keeper on his bottom. Composure, taking his time. The mark
:13:31. > :13:34.of a class player. That's born into you, you don't get taught that, he's
:13:35. > :13:37.18 and is playing like a veteran. David saw that in him as soon as he
:13:38. > :13:41.came into the ground. He established what we needed, thought he needed a
:13:42. > :13:45.bit more pace up the top end of the park and put that in and the team
:13:46. > :13:49.have taken off from Paul Smyth coming in. We could have picked a
:13:50. > :13:55.handful from Glenavon. Cooper you've decided to look at. What stands out
:13:56. > :13:59.for him for you? He's a new signing, brought in at the start of the
:14:00. > :14:05.season. It's his directness, he runs to people, commits to people, he's
:14:06. > :14:12.been a great signing. Glenavon bought him in from Ballyclare. Joel
:14:13. > :14:19.Cooper again, he shoots from outside the box though, he takes
:14:20. > :14:24.opportunities there. He's a threat. I watched him first game of the
:14:25. > :14:28.season. He came off the bench along with Gary and galvanised Glenavon.
:14:29. > :14:33.No emergency up until he came on. Suddenly he was a young guy coming
:14:34. > :14:38.on making his debut and Glenavon got close to getting a point that day
:14:39. > :14:44.because he came on the pitch, made people work. He was honest and he's
:14:45. > :14:48.really kicked on from there and is now an established first team
:14:49. > :14:52.player. He plays nearly every week, so just interesting to see how it
:14:53. > :15:00.goes with a Cup Final. Expecting big things. We'll hopefully have goals
:15:01. > :15:06.this afternoon. This is the fourth meeting of the Cup Final for these
:15:07. > :15:12.two teams. Linfield won, then Glenavon, then this was the match
:15:13. > :15:17.programme from 1961's final. Household names in there, 5-1 was
:15:18. > :15:22.the eventual score, Campbell with a hat trick for Glenavon, Jimmy Jones
:15:23. > :15:31.got two, Tommy Dickson, the Duke of Windsor, of course, you see him
:15:32. > :15:38.there. Braithwaite, Jones, Dugan, the great Jimmy Jones and that's all
:15:39. > :15:44.the way from 61, a great piece of history. A closer look at today's
:15:45. > :15:51.referee. The final day of the Irish league, a big, big day for Raymond
:15:52. > :15:54.Hetherington as we look at him going through his final preparations here?
:15:55. > :16:00.Yes. It's a big game for everybody and he'll play as big a part as the
:16:01. > :16:04.players. I hope we are not talking about wrongly made decisions at any
:16:05. > :16:07.course during the day. There is a lot of exposure and we have been
:16:08. > :16:11.highlighting a lot of refereeing decisions of late. It's his first
:16:12. > :16:16.Cup Final. There'll be nerves for everybody. I hope he has a good
:16:17. > :16:22.game. We don't want to be talking about mistakes, we have done enough
:16:23. > :16:25.of that this season. There'll be pressure on him, pressure on the
:16:26. > :16:30.players and managers, I hope he performs. He's in the invidious
:16:31. > :16:34.position that he's not a manager and can't criticise. A referee is an
:16:35. > :16:40.important part of the game, it's a massive day for him? The big thing I
:16:41. > :16:43.like about Raymond Hetherington is his man-management skills. He has a
:16:44. > :16:49.communication with the players and managers. I really like that about
:16:50. > :16:54.him. He understands the game very well and works hard. This is a big
:16:55. > :16:59.day for him. He did our match at Glentoran last week and it was the
:17:00. > :17:04.dress rehearsal for this, the linesman, the fourth official, et
:17:05. > :17:10.cetera, they were all there. All the manager get a wee bit upset at times
:17:11. > :17:15.but the referees do their best, there is so much at stake at times.
:17:16. > :17:20.Another big name pitch side now with TK.
:17:21. > :17:23.This is what it's all about today, the famous Irish cup trophy. The
:17:24. > :17:27.play verse made their way into the dressing room for a few last-minute
:17:28. > :17:32.words from both sets of management teams, the red carpet is out and we
:17:33. > :17:36.have goal-scoring Royalty alongside us, Peter Thompson and Glenn
:17:37. > :17:47.Ferguson. Peter, you've some record in Irish Cup Finals, tell us about
:17:48. > :17:52.it? Yes, six finals, six wins, six goals, it's been great, can't get
:17:53. > :17:56.better than that. You hope you still play for games like this. Hopefully
:17:57. > :18:01.it's a good game. How important are moments like this in the dressing
:18:02. > :18:07.room for the player? I think it's massive. Obviously Linfield haven't
:18:08. > :18:11.won the last four years, the new manager's come in and done a good
:18:12. > :18:17.job and it will give them the belief, almost like it was for us
:18:18. > :18:22.when we won the Setanta Cup, to have a period of success. They'll be set
:18:23. > :18:28.up for that down the line. Glenavon will have a major say in that. It
:18:29. > :18:32.should be a good game. Glenn, you look like you are savouring the
:18:33. > :18:35.moment here, big crowd, big atmosphere, you have a foot in both
:18:36. > :18:42.camps, having scored for both teams. Where do you think this game's going
:18:43. > :18:46.to be won today? I think the quality players in both teams, whoever
:18:47. > :18:51.settles best, gets on the ball and makes thing happen. Braniff is
:18:52. > :18:59.quality for Glenavon. He could make a difference. Paul Smyth is pacy and
:19:00. > :19:05.quick. Mulgrew will be key for Linfield today. Makes the driving
:19:06. > :19:09.runs forward. It could go either way. So many different players and
:19:10. > :19:15.good players on both teams, so it's a big, big occasion for them and I
:19:16. > :19:19.hope it settles well. A huge call from David Healy to start Gareth
:19:20. > :19:24.Deane in goal. What do you make of that? It is, particularly because
:19:25. > :19:31.Glenavon rely a lot on the set pieces. Cooper's delivery is very
:19:32. > :19:35.good and Simon Kelly and Keith Bradley, they've got kierin Martyn,
:19:36. > :19:39.big lads pressuring the team, so as good a keeper as he is, he'll be
:19:40. > :19:44.very nervous. Glenn and Peter, thank you very much. As I said before,
:19:45. > :19:48.goal-scoring Royalty, one of the deadliest strike forces in local
:19:49. > :19:54.football and Mark, I'm sure they could still do the job now!
:19:55. > :20:00.There's a man who can still do a job, big day for the fans and the
:20:01. > :20:08.players and a big, big day for our Jack can I Fullerton, there he is,
:20:09. > :20:13.getting his standing ovation alongside David Jeffrey, this his
:20:14. > :20:17.final Irish Cup Final call. -- Jackie Fullerton. We are proud that
:20:18. > :20:22.he's still the man at the microphone. He's a legend? Oh,
:20:23. > :20:26.listen, I could tell you so many stories about Jackie, he's just a
:20:27. > :20:31.fabulous person, who he's given to the game in Northern Ireland is
:20:32. > :20:36.enormous -- what. We are all very grateful for what he's done for us
:20:37. > :20:40.over the years. Good guy. Jackie Fullerton, how is it in the
:20:41. > :20:47.commentary box, how are you feeling? Nervous, nervous. It's great. You
:20:48. > :20:50.have the usual apprehension but the atmosphere here is absolutely
:20:51. > :20:57.tremendous. That's what makes Irish Cup Finals so special. It's that
:20:58. > :21:02.glamorous Hollywood day, the end of the season, and you've got two sets
:21:03. > :21:10.of fans here. This stadium is not completed yet, but we have about
:21:11. > :21:14.4500 from Glenavon, we have about 5600-6000 from Linfield and 102010
:21:15. > :21:19.neutrals so it's packed to capacity and they are making some noise,
:21:20. > :21:26.particularly the Linfield fans who haven't won this for four years
:21:27. > :21:32.sothey are desperate to win a major trophy -- 1000 neutrals. Sa little
:21:33. > :21:36.lump in the throat? No, I'll be selfish in saying I'm sad but I've
:21:37. > :21:40.enjoyed every minute of it. This is my 29th final and I just love the
:21:41. > :21:49.adrenaline rush I get at all of these. That's something which I'll
:21:50. > :21:54.miss. Who knows, if you can buy me a little lemonade or something, it may
:21:55. > :22:03.calm me down? ! Nothing short of pleasure to do that. Jackie will be
:22:04. > :22:06.calling the match for us. His final Irish cup commentary, can you
:22:07. > :22:15.believe it, it has to be a good one for him, Chris? It will be. He'll
:22:16. > :22:21.not suffer too many nerves. He's covered 29 of the matches. For you
:22:22. > :22:25.today, we are getting close to prediction time, the winning and
:22:26. > :22:28.losing of it, both teams have set up like they are going to go for it?
:22:29. > :22:33.They both play attacking style of football. There are goals in both
:22:34. > :22:39.teams. I look at Glenavon and feel there are players that if they grab
:22:40. > :22:44.the game by the scruff, Bradley for example, he can be unmaybe and
:22:45. > :22:49.Braniff can be unmaybe on his day as well as in the semi-final. I have a
:22:50. > :22:56.notion for Glenavon, I had it from the start, I could be proven badly
:22:57. > :23:03.wrong but I'll stick my neck out and predict Glenavon. Stephen? It's very
:23:04. > :23:13.hard to call this one. The teams are evenly matched. The big winner
:23:14. > :23:22.players might be in the Glenavon set-up but Linfield have it too.
:23:23. > :23:25.Here are your match commentary team. Thank you very much indeed. There is
:23:26. > :23:33.the prize, the Irish cup. The players are just about to emerge. As
:23:34. > :23:36.I said, just a minute ago, the Tenants Irish Cup final, it's the
:23:37. > :23:41.glamorous finale for the local season. Special day for the players
:23:42. > :23:46.and the fans. Four matches could get you into a final. It takes
:23:47. > :23:50.consistency to win the league Championship, the one they all want,
:23:51. > :23:54.particularly the Linfield fans, but they'll be looking for this Irish
:23:55. > :23:59.cup. They haven't won the league or the cup since David Jeffrey, the man
:24:00. > :24:04.beside me, his team did a double four years ago in 2012.
:24:05. > :24:18.Wonderful atmosphere, as you would imagine. There are some 4500-5000 up
:24:19. > :24:23.from Glenavon as well. There's Andy Waterworth getting final
:24:24. > :24:36.instructions, the Linfield skipper, his 50th game. That lady there is
:24:37. > :24:41.the wife, the widow of Mark. Her husband led Glenavon out two years
:24:42. > :24:47.ago when they won the trophy when they beat Ballymena United.
:24:48. > :24:54.Todaytering Rhyl Louise has the honour after Mark sadly passed away
:24:55. > :24:57.in February after a long illness. A nice touch by Glenavon and a humane
:24:58. > :25:05.moment in football that rarely gets a mention. Amongst the mascots, by
:25:06. > :25:19.the way, their hugely enjoy this. Two of them for Glenavon, Callum and
:25:20. > :25:26.Cory, the sons of glarry Hamilton. -- Gary Hamilton. Nice little shake
:25:27. > :25:37.of the hands there withtering Rhyl Louise. -- with Terri Louise. David
:25:38. > :25:41.Healy seemed a little nervous earlier. Very understandable. Unless
:25:42. > :25:44.you have been a manager, you will never really be able to empathise or
:25:45. > :25:49.appreciate just what is going through your mind. It's not just
:25:50. > :25:52.about your team selection, but also about the awful thing of having to
:25:53. > :25:55.lead players out and having to communicate with them on the day by
:25:56. > :26:01.having to still focus on the players. You have all sorts of
:26:02. > :26:07.emotions all over the place. We are getting ready for the 136th Irish
:26:08. > :26:12.Cup Final. It's back at Windsor Park. It's town against country,
:26:13. > :26:18.same as last season, when the City won.
:26:19. > :26:24.A bit of controversial in the last game. The decision to give the goal.
:26:25. > :26:31.That's all water under the bridge now. There's a bit of a breeze today
:26:32. > :26:36.as well. Not too much down on pitch side.
:26:37. > :26:46.You will see the Number 10 there, remembering Mark Farron, that was
:26:47. > :26:54.his number at the club. That's kierin Martyn, the skipper.
:26:55. > :27:00.Jim Shaw, the chairman of the Irish cup. That's the gentleman from
:27:01. > :27:12.Tenants. ?20,000 for the winners today,
:27:13. > :27:15.?15,000 for the runnersup. The referee, Raymond Hetherington making
:27:16. > :27:18.the introductions. He's doing his first Irish Cup Final. He looks
:27:19. > :27:34.content enough. He does indeed. I really do hope we are not talking
:27:35. > :27:39.about refereeing decisions. Take yourselves back to this time last
:27:40. > :27:41.year, there was controversy over refereeing decisions and officials'
:27:42. > :27:44.decisions. Let's hope today that all we are talking about is the
:27:45. > :27:53.football, is the occasion and is the game. Absolutely. David Healy, what
:27:54. > :27:57.an international career! 95 caps, record 36 goals. Different now. He's
:27:58. > :28:06.got to deliver trophies for Linfield. There is a disappointment
:28:07. > :28:08.of losing the County Antrim shield to Ballymena earlier on, but let's
:28:09. > :28:11.pause for the anthem. NATIONAL ANTHEM
:28:12. > :28:53.PLAYS Down the line of both teams there, a
:28:54. > :28:57.lot of nerves and pressure, David. A massive amount of pressure and
:28:58. > :29:03.nerves. Interesting that Glenn said it's about who can settle quickest,
:29:04. > :29:09.who can settle the earliest. Remember, way back in 1993 when we
:29:10. > :29:14.had that trilogy of couch finals -- Cup Finals. I was an experienced
:29:15. > :29:18.player at that stage in my career, but I remember being absolutely
:29:19. > :29:22.frozen with nerves the first 15 minutes of the game, it was only
:29:23. > :29:25.when I got my first touch that I got into the game. You want to try and
:29:26. > :29:31.settle early, but you need that first touch.
:29:32. > :29:38.I commentated that trilogy and I remember it for different reasons,
:29:39. > :29:51.it was quite tedious. Let's look at the teams. Glenavon will be for 42.
:29:52. > :30:00.Very capable of causing Linfield problems, look out for probing of
:30:01. > :30:06.the winners. Kris Lindsay has been left out of the starting line-up.
:30:07. > :30:11.Conor Dillon and Simon Kelly will start in centre defence, and John
:30:12. > :30:17.Toffee, probably the best goalkeeper this season. After just six games,
:30:18. > :30:31.21-year-old Gareth Deane is in goal. Stephen Lowry, semifinal hero with a
:30:32. > :30:44.hat-trick. Top scorer Andy Waterworth upfront, with Paul Smyth
:30:45. > :30:50.also in a 4-4- two formation. There is Kevin Braniff. He's just signed a
:30:51. > :30:55.one-year contract this week. We got all four goals in Glenavon's win
:30:56. > :31:02.over Crusaders. There is Andy Waterworth on his 50th game this
:31:03. > :31:13.season. 32 goals. Cairan Martyn, dirty six-year old, there is a
:31:14. > :31:19.younger man, Gareth Deane, who has played six first-team games and he's
:31:20. > :31:25.kept six clean sheets, and that is Aaron Burns, the hero of their
:31:26. > :31:35.semifinal with a 3-0 win over Lurgan Celtic. We are just about ready.
:31:36. > :31:42.Linfield are 5-6 favourites and Glenavon, you can get a tasty 3-1. I
:31:43. > :31:47.think that is a good price for a Glenavon, who have a real price. I'm
:31:48. > :31:53.not a betting man, I don't understand old spot for me it's too
:31:54. > :31:59.close call. I watched Glenavon in the semifinal against Crusaders,
:32:00. > :32:05.they were massively impressive. Linfield have been on a great run of
:32:06. > :32:10.form, first Crusaders the whole way, and I think this will be a cracking
:32:11. > :32:18.game, fantastic match and for me, too close to call. The two front
:32:19. > :32:25.men, Braniff faced by Eoin Bradley, and Owen's brother Paddy Bradley and
:32:26. > :32:32.all the boys are down to watch him in action today and I hope they will
:32:33. > :32:38.enjoy today. I promised I would mention Paddy Bradley, who is an
:32:39. > :32:44.all-star county player from Derry. There is the manager with the beard,
:32:45. > :32:50.Paul Millar beside him. Gary Hamilton, what a job he has done.
:32:51. > :32:54.The nominal job. A lot of people queried the decision when he became
:32:55. > :33:06.manager but he has proved to be no fool.
:33:07. > :33:18.Andy Hall, young man who was playing in a County Championship play-off
:33:19. > :33:25.last year, such is Irish football. We heard this week with Leicester,
:33:26. > :33:30.it is about recruitment and players from the lower reaches who come up,
:33:31. > :33:36.and certainly Gary had the talent eyes on and Andrew has come in and
:33:37. > :33:42.done well. I have been impressed with Hall, and Joel Cooper, two
:33:43. > :33:51.lively winners. Glenavon trying to push forward. That might have been a
:33:52. > :33:58.bit of pushing from Eoin Bradley. We had a taster here between Jimmy
:33:59. > :34:02.Callacher and Eoin Bradley. Different challenges for both
:34:03. > :34:08.centre-backs. You have the physicality of Bradley, the
:34:09. > :34:21.cleverness of run-off, so a battle there. -- Braniff. I think Stephen
:34:22. > :34:27.Lowry has the free kick. He has a lot to live up to, Stephen Lowry.
:34:28. > :34:35.His brother Philip played here and won three out of three Irish Cup
:34:36. > :34:40.finals, scored in one of them. Conor Dillon and Simon Kelly will have the
:34:41. > :34:47.pace of Paul Smyth and Andrew Waterworth to deal with.
:34:48. > :34:56.That's a good ball in from Ross Gaynor. Good delivery, which he is a
:34:57. > :35:09.very feeble. The man who won an FAI cup final with Sligo. Kilmartin,
:35:10. > :35:16.very cool. He has given it away. Larry tried to do left, it didn't
:35:17. > :35:22.work out. Bradley didn't know it but it was onside. Very much so. He
:35:23. > :35:28.should have played to the whistle or to the linesman putting that flag
:35:29. > :35:34.up. You're always taught as a schoolboy, played to the whistle.
:35:35. > :35:41.Sean Ward is the oldest Linfield player at 32. He would thank me for
:35:42. > :35:49.saying that, but he is a Rolls-Royce of a player, he can play anywhere.
:35:50. > :35:52.You might agree. I was delighted as Linfield manager to bring him from
:35:53. > :36:01.Glentoran and he served both clubs with distinction. There is a great
:36:02. > :36:05.atmosphere, both sets of fans are really up for this, both are
:36:06. > :36:10.desperate to end the season with a bit of silver work. Linfield fans
:36:11. > :36:18.demand silverware. This is good for the Blues. Just looking back to the
:36:19. > :36:25.semifinal, Glenavon worth three times behind and came back each
:36:26. > :36:33.time. As the keeper took that, it almost worked out but not quite.
:36:34. > :36:48.There is Andy Hall, now over this side. Paul has won back by Linfield,
:36:49. > :36:51.driven in an super hands by John Tuffey, who has proved to be an
:36:52. > :36:59.outstanding goalkeeper in the league this year. He is also the Glenavon
:37:00. > :37:03.Player of the Year. It was a real chance for Andy Waterworth and he
:37:04. > :37:14.couldn't take it. He is usually lethal in those situations. Not that
:37:15. > :37:25.time. Good pressure from Linfield. Mulgrew pushed it wide. Couldn't get
:37:26. > :37:31.the cross over. Andy Waterworth will look back on that and see it as a
:37:32. > :37:36.real chance. We'll get to see that in a moment or two, as Linfield take
:37:37. > :37:44.this throw in. It's been a lively five minutes. Yes, Linfield have
:37:45. > :37:50.started brightly, without doubt in the ascendancy. And if we do get to
:37:51. > :37:58.see that, we will find it was not so much paper mess but some great
:37:59. > :38:01.defending. Andrew gets in front but that's a superb block there. He
:38:02. > :38:12.didn't get any van among behind the finish. He will shrug that off --
:38:13. > :38:21.venom. 32 goals in 49 games, a good ratio. Kelly could be in for a busy
:38:22. > :38:24.afternoon in defence, and maybe I'm always optimistic as a commentator,
:38:25. > :38:33.hoping we will get goals, but I think we will, maybe 3-2 today. I
:38:34. > :38:38.talked about players having nervous and how I found it difficult, there
:38:39. > :38:43.doesn't appear to be any nerves, they seem to have dissipated
:38:44. > :38:53.altogether. Linfield are having a good period. Lovely skill there.
:38:54. > :38:57.Andy Waterworth couldn't get in front of his marker. Now the brake
:38:58. > :39:14.on here. This is good interchanging. Here
:39:15. > :39:23.comes Mulgrew, the angle is against him, he tried it, not successfully.
:39:24. > :39:30.Super passage of play, Aaron Burns, Paul Smyth, Mulgrew taking it on and
:39:31. > :39:37.the shock was blocked. Linfield are going for the jugular from the. Very
:39:38. > :39:44.controlled, good movement, they are very much playing well at the
:39:45. > :39:48.moment. Mark Patton with a little beard and he's usually a left
:39:49. > :39:56.winger, but he's at left-back so maybe Linfield will try and see if
:39:57. > :40:02.he has any weaknesses as a defender. And Aaron Burns playing wide right,
:40:03. > :40:10.so uninteresting challenge. Duels all over the place. Now, here comes
:40:11. > :40:18.Aaron Burns, but it wasn't a good ball.
:40:19. > :40:24.Braniff, holding off his marker, he has done it so well over the years,
:40:25. > :40:41.that's not like him. Gallaher misjudged that one, Jorge
:40:42. > :40:54.didn't. -- hockey. Waterworth lurking in that forward area.
:40:55. > :41:03.Linfield seem to get into a rhythm, whereas Glenavon have not, and there
:41:04. > :41:09.we are, a round of applause, slightly early, for Mark Farren.
:41:10. > :41:17.That was his number, number ten, four Glenavon. A man sadly missed as
:41:18. > :41:25.a player and as a person. He was a top man. This is what makes you feel
:41:26. > :41:31.really, really proud to be involved with Irish League ball. Listen to
:41:32. > :41:39.both sets of supporters paying tribute to a wonderful a wonderful,
:41:40. > :41:44.brave man. You think of how his family have continued but my
:41:45. > :41:50.goodness, and such and Asian, to have both sets of supporters paying
:41:51. > :41:58.such a wholesome tribute, it would bring tears. And what a nice touch
:41:59. > :42:05.for Glenavon, to have Kerry Louise, his widow, leading the team on.
:42:06. > :42:15.Cooper just gave himself too much to do. It was a good challenge, let's
:42:16. > :42:17.see this. It was Sean Ward and he seemed to push water out of the way
:42:18. > :42:29.and there is the block. You picked him out earlier on. I
:42:30. > :42:32.watched Joel earlier in the season down at Warren point where he scored
:42:33. > :42:42.two or three goals and he was superb. Linfield not making any
:42:43. > :42:46.headway that time. I think there was a bit of filling there, and I think
:42:47. > :42:55.Markoff he is getting fed up with the intention -- Mark hockey. The
:42:56. > :43:02.illegal attention from Bradley. This is old-fashioned play, get out of my
:43:03. > :43:08.way. Six of one half a dozen of the other. Bradley was making his
:43:09. > :43:14.presence felt but Mark also had the whole of his jersey, and maybe
:43:15. > :43:19.fortunate to get the decision. That is part of the ploy, upset the big
:43:20. > :43:28.centre-half, get him booked. Very cool. Cooper was unlucky. He was
:43:29. > :43:33.there to do a job in the first place. Isn't it great, the
:43:34. > :43:44.intensity, battles all over the place. That's a good ball in, off
:43:45. > :43:52.the line. Laurie got the final touch. Brilliant reflexes. It all
:43:53. > :43:57.happened out of nothing. In by Ward, there was Stephen Larry and he
:43:58. > :44:05.thought he was on the scoresheet like his brother Philip a fuel years
:44:06. > :44:11.ago, but Tuffey was there. A great ball in by Sean Ward. Grid connect
:44:12. > :44:18.by Stephen Larry but what a save from Jonathan Tuffey. If he hadn't
:44:19. > :44:28.been as sharp, Linfield were one up, without doubt. Glenavon have to try,
:44:29. > :44:34.apart from resolving the pressure, they have to get forward. They do
:44:35. > :44:40.but what Linfield are doing well, good ball in from Sean Ward, and
:44:41. > :44:46.look at that saved from two, and then the ball is cleared by Rhys
:44:47. > :44:56.Marshall. Give credit to Simon Kelly, who was there to put him off.
:44:57. > :45:07.That didn't work, it was to type. The break could be on here. To go
:45:08. > :45:11.back to your point about what Glenavon need to do, they need to
:45:12. > :45:17.come league with Linfield, who were squeezing the ball quickly and
:45:18. > :45:22.early. The modern turn is pressing the ball as a group and Glenavon
:45:23. > :45:37.simply cannot get out. A dangerous ball across Cooper. In bypassing,
:45:38. > :45:44.Linfield deal with it, and Andy Kilmartin all the way back.
:45:45. > :45:57.David Cole sent Johnny Tuffey, I have always known him as Jonathan.
:45:58. > :46:03.David is a friend of his. A dear close friend of mine but also when I
:46:04. > :46:08.was manager I signed him and I think he is a tremendous goalkeeper, and I
:46:09. > :46:13.love to see people I work with you well, and I call him Jonathan
:46:14. > :46:23.because his mum would shout at me if I didn't. Here we go. Well done,
:46:24. > :46:31.referee, he says there was a bit of filling. Glenavon get the free kick.
:46:32. > :46:37.Now just watch him here, he doesn't frighten and he's giving as good as
:46:38. > :46:43.he gets. He may be small in stature but he is a mighty young man. I
:46:44. > :46:48.watched them here against Crusaders. I believe there might be a few
:46:49. > :46:55.scouts today looking at that young man.
:46:56. > :47:04.Cooper, very tricky, a great ball in and it was so close to nestling in
:47:05. > :47:09.the postage stamp. That expression sums up, he thought that might have
:47:10. > :47:16.curled in and it almost did. Great trickery from Joel. David Healy will
:47:17. > :47:21.want Sean Ward to get to him much closer, much earlier and not to give
:47:22. > :47:26.him that space. He thought it would go on the left-hand side, came in on
:47:27. > :47:35.his right and a great effort for Joel. Looking at Cooper and Hall,
:47:36. > :47:42.they are winners and both have six yellow cards this season. Winners
:47:43. > :47:51.are not usually aggressive. Back in your day you used to early winners.
:47:52. > :47:57.A bit of a miscued there, you could excuse if he has a few nerves, it is
:47:58. > :48:03.a cup final on his seventh game this season for young Deane. They had the
:48:04. > :48:13.sprinklers on and it is uneven in areas. I hate to be critical but I
:48:14. > :48:19.have seen the pitch better. A long throw, Linfield almost deal with it.
:48:20. > :48:27.The keeper has dropped it. They scramble here. It's in! The whistle
:48:28. > :48:32.has gone. Eoin Bradley cannot believe it. The goalkeeper had it
:48:33. > :48:37.and then he lost it, and I think they were maybe ticking when the
:48:38. > :48:45.goalkeeper was trying to hold onto it. Let's see. Pick the bones out of
:48:46. > :48:54.this one. Gareth doesn't get hold of it, you can see Bradley trying to
:48:55. > :49:06.dig it out. Is there much wrong with that. Let's see. It's not in his
:49:07. > :49:13.hands. That's big Cairan Martyn, it's up against Eoin Bradley. I'd
:49:14. > :49:22.think that is a good spot by Raymond. He's not happy, itsy? From
:49:23. > :49:26.his ankle, I can understand it. We have the luxury of seeing it back
:49:27. > :49:33.and seeing the ferocity of the tackle. It mightn't have been given
:49:34. > :49:40.in any other part of the pitch. But there is young Gareth. Here we see
:49:41. > :49:57.it again. He doesn't get a hold of it. It is that challenge. Yet, it
:49:58. > :50:06.was Cairan Martyn without question. A let off for that young 21-year-old
:50:07. > :50:11.from Lisburn. After all of Linfield's dominance in the first 15
:50:12. > :50:22.minutes, Glenavon were not at the races, then the first chance they
:50:23. > :50:32.get, they nearly score. Just 18 minutes gone and it is lively stuff.
:50:33. > :50:36.Still no goals in this cup final. You made a good point about the
:50:37. > :50:43.goalkeeper, six games but six clean sheets. He had that mis-kick, that
:50:44. > :50:52.little altercation. Keeper comes, it gets a good punch, that will help
:50:53. > :51:00.him. Big style anti-needed that. What a lovely touch from Braniff,
:51:01. > :51:05.silky skills from the 33-year-old. That's the commentator's curse, when
:51:06. > :51:13.you praised them they make a mistake. Always, but I will try to
:51:14. > :51:17.help you out, I watched him in the semifinal against Crusaders and on
:51:18. > :51:24.that night the Navan were superb but he was imperious. The quality of his
:51:25. > :51:28.goals, the standard of his play was outstanding, so you were right to
:51:29. > :51:36.think that his effort would have been better. Thank you, David.
:51:37. > :51:42.Ballymena United manager who also doubles as my agent! Coming up to 20
:51:43. > :51:50.minutes, we still await the first goal. I have a feeling it may not be
:51:51. > :51:57.far away. How's that for optimism? Cairan Martyn did well, so too did
:51:58. > :52:04.Bradley but not all. A poor touch for the young man. Rhys Marshall
:52:05. > :52:12.goes back, he didn't get to it a bit lackadaisical by young Marshall. You
:52:13. > :52:20.also got to give credit to Andrew Waterworth, who put him under
:52:21. > :52:24.pressure. It's like every final, especially a final where it is a
:52:25. > :52:32.one-off. You get a goal, the game has to open up. And look what we
:52:33. > :52:36.have now, Linfield dominant, biting at the heels of every Glenavon
:52:37. > :52:43.player who was on the ball. Tuffey has to make ace superb save, then we
:52:44. > :52:50.do at the other end, Glenavon turn the game on its head and, we had
:52:51. > :52:58.that little melee and now we see Glenavon... Braniff taking a rest,
:52:59. > :53:05.leaning against the post. A busy goalmouth as this goal comes in.
:53:06. > :53:10.That will be disappointing. Joel Cooper will have wanted to do better
:53:11. > :53:15.and that is the chance you want to put him under pressure, to put the
:53:16. > :53:21.ball into the box and there is nothing as integer eating as when
:53:22. > :53:25.you do not beat the first man. As a manager it would drive you crazy.
:53:26. > :53:34.You are screaming, get the ball over. Glenavon, inside the Linfield
:53:35. > :53:48.half. Young Smyth, bounced away from him.
:53:49. > :53:58.Good ball in, that's a very good ball in, now it dropped to Hall. I
:53:59. > :54:03.would have expected better from Andy Hall, who can really hit a ball. He
:54:04. > :54:08.has five goals this season, one in that cup, and look at this. The
:54:09. > :54:14.technique wasn't there on that occasion. We didn't see it that
:54:15. > :54:18.there was a great piece of clever plates bike Kevin Braniff, where he
:54:19. > :54:29.came into a little pocket and set that opportunity up.
:54:30. > :54:44.Well won by the central defender. Good chasing thereby Paul Smyth.
:54:45. > :54:51.Sadly he gives away the throw in. But he is a handful. David Healy
:54:52. > :54:55.told me at the start of the season about this boy and he has kept faith
:54:56. > :55:00.with him. I don't think it is overstating the fact that Paul
:55:01. > :55:05.Smyth's influence at Linfield has been quite dramatic. His
:55:06. > :55:09.introduction was maybe unexpected but the quality of his play and what
:55:10. > :55:18.he has given his team-mates must be praised and were nice. -- and
:55:19. > :55:23.recognised. David Healy will be satisfied, they looked dangerous but
:55:24. > :55:31.they could have been one behind but that goal was robbed out. He will be
:55:32. > :55:34.happy with the first 15 minutes but when you're in the vicinity, you
:55:35. > :55:41.want to profit and what goes through your head is the doubt, I wish we
:55:42. > :55:50.had got a goal, because you know the opposition will come back into it.
:55:51. > :55:55.That ounces away for the Gold Tech. I thought it was amazing that these
:55:56. > :56:02.sides have only previously met three times in the final. Glenavon one to
:56:03. > :56:07.of those and Linfield won the other, but this is the first to be played
:56:08. > :56:12.at Windsor Park. The last one, ironically, this is my last
:56:13. > :56:20.commentary, it's Glenavon against Linfield. My first commentary for
:56:21. > :56:27.the BBC in 1992, Irish Cup Final, Glenavon two, Linfield one, is that
:56:28. > :56:35.an omen for today? Jamie Mulgrew was halted there. I remember that final
:56:36. > :56:38.very well because I was left out of the team and that's why I was
:56:39. > :56:43.talking earlier about both managers and eight top part of the day when
:56:44. > :56:48.you work telling a player you have made the decision, they are not
:56:49. > :56:54.involved, and you try to commiserate, sympathise, comfort,
:56:55. > :57:09.but... It doesn't mean anything to the player. Not a thing. Here we go.
:57:10. > :57:14.but... It doesn't mean anything to Linfield get it back in again. Did
:57:15. > :57:25.Linfield goalkeeper, what a throw that was. Here is Cooper.
:57:26. > :57:38.It's the wonderful Jamie Mulgrew who was doing the covering. In his
:57:39. > :57:45.testimonial year, let's see, 432nd game for Linfield, scored 40 goals
:57:46. > :57:53.over those ten or 11 years. There is Two, it was a great catch, he
:57:54. > :57:57.covered the ball very early, Jamie Mulgrew another player who when I
:57:58. > :58:04.was manager, was able to attract from Glentoran, and what a servant
:58:05. > :58:08.of the club he has been. I remember you leaving him out for a cup final
:58:09. > :58:13.and then you brought him on in the 63rd minute as a substitute and he
:58:14. > :58:22.ended up Man of the Match when you want the match. What sort of
:58:23. > :58:30.decision was that? He comped all day, I had chosen Philip Larry in
:58:31. > :58:35.front of him and when a player has a jersey you don't take it off him and
:58:36. > :58:40.Philip deserve to be in the side, but I said to Jamie to go out and
:58:41. > :58:45.prove I was wrong, and did he prove that my decision that they was
:58:46. > :58:57.possibly right. No, David, you were wrong. But that is yesteryear. Now,
:58:58. > :59:05.Linfield cannot make any progress. The throw goes to Linfield. It is
:59:06. > :59:08.lovely to see a great crop of supporters, the North stand is
:59:09. > :59:20.packed to capacity with Linfield followers. It's great having the
:59:21. > :59:26.final back here at Windsor. Into the middle, it was almost a good ball
:59:27. > :59:35.but not quite. I think that might be a free kick. Young Smyth showing his
:59:36. > :59:38.aggressive side. A little overdue brings, he claims there was a dive
:59:39. > :59:46.but I do not thing he has a case there. Just a little nudge, and I
:59:47. > :59:51.think he helped John on his way -- Joel. Not that Joe will probably
:59:52. > :59:58.needed too much encouragement but a free it was. It's nice to see a
:59:59. > :00:05.linesman make a decision. You did say you were going to be kind to the
:00:06. > :00:10.officials. I'm always kind, it is a difficult job. The flight is up,
:00:11. > :00:18.just about. That must have been close. A shake of the head from
:00:19. > :00:23.Kevin Braniff. From our angle, I think the linesman or the assistant
:00:24. > :00:30.got it right, I think Kevin knew himself, a look over his shoulder,
:00:31. > :00:37.he just went a second early and the two centre-backs stepped up.
:00:38. > :00:56.Held on. Waterworth having to come deep. Linfield haven't really
:00:57. > :01:01.threatened a Glenavon goal in recent minutes. That may change. That's a
:01:02. > :01:15.free kick. Mistimed tackle by Andy Kilmartin.
:01:16. > :01:31.Then maybe a little bit of afters. . Was it an accident? I don't want
:01:32. > :01:33.to say premeditated, but was it meant? The ref just calming things
:01:34. > :01:55.down. It's coming towards the half hour
:01:56. > :02:04.mark. 0-0. We need a goal. Linfield will feel they want a goal to get in
:02:05. > :02:06.front on their home patch. Oh, it was just too high for Andy
:02:07. > :02:16.Waterworth. This is a great ball in by Ross
:02:17. > :02:22.Gaynor. And Burns it is. Just couldn't get it off the floor. Look
:02:23. > :02:29.at this ball in. Great climb by Burns and unfortunately, just behind
:02:30. > :02:36.Waterworth. Small margins from going in front. Still 0-0.
:02:37. > :02:43.We will have extra time and penalties if tired. -- if required.
:02:44. > :02:58.Half an hour extra time. Over 11,000 people here today!
:02:59. > :03:04.11,500. Good to see. And they are making quite a din. Cooper flicks it
:03:05. > :03:13.away. Martyn didn't help it on its way. Mulgrew flicks it into the path
:03:14. > :03:18.of Ward. Ward prefers his rite foot, takes it back to his left.
:03:19. > :03:28.Smyth did very well. Marshall - he'd better not hang about. He was a
:03:29. > :03:35.little bit fortunate there because Gaynor was there.
:03:36. > :03:53.Smyth. The ball's in. And obviously again, you see the tactical ability
:03:54. > :03:59.of Smyth there. He made a point. He was busy. You made a point earlier
:04:00. > :04:04.on about Mark Patton being naturally a winger, yet playing at full back.
:04:05. > :04:07.That sometimes can be the problem. Going forward obviously Mark will
:04:08. > :04:17.have no bother but maybe the defensive side of his game will be
:04:18. > :04:22.tested. Glenavon. Braniff gets it in behind Cooper. They really are thin
:04:23. > :04:27.margins today at both ends of the pitch. We are getting close to
:04:28. > :04:32.danger but not quite getting there. Still 0-0. Over 12 minutes to half
:04:33. > :04:48.time. A very subtle change. Burns started
:04:49. > :04:57.wide right. He's naturally left-footed against Patton. Smyth
:04:58. > :05:02.has come out to this side now. A tactical switch and interesting to
:05:03. > :05:07.see. Maybe David is thinking, the pace of young Smyth against a fellow
:05:08. > :05:14.winger who's playing against a defender, can we get something out
:05:15. > :05:19.of it. Yes. I would agree with that. And you've got Linfield's two
:05:20. > :05:29.leading goal scorers, Gary Hamilton warming up. Played last week. He
:05:30. > :05:36.played in a reserve match almost. He was man-of-the-match. 35-year-old
:05:37. > :05:41.centre half. And he told everybody this week at training, whoever
:05:42. > :05:51.wanted to listen, how good he was! I've got to say, Jack, it's a - I
:05:52. > :05:55.was speaking to Gary during the week and the association of centre
:05:56. > :06:01.halves, present and past, they'll never be welcomed back in again. He
:06:02. > :06:03.said, I playeded at centre back for 17 minutes and was man-of-the-match
:06:04. > :06:08.and he said it was the easiest position on the pitch that. 'S what
:06:09. > :06:17.he said! So for all of my fellow former and present centre backs, he
:06:18. > :06:22.had a chance to get it. He's quite a man but he's been quite a player
:06:23. > :06:26.over the years, former Northern Ireland international, of course,
:06:27. > :06:32.and a great friend of David Healy's. They played in youth teams all those
:06:33. > :06:43.years ago. But they are not friendly until after this is decided.
:06:44. > :06:47.Kilmartin. 33 years of age. Quite a midfield, a 33-year-old and a
:06:48. > :06:52.36-year-old. You mentioned Kilmartin. I've watched him this
:06:53. > :06:56.year and he's never ceased to impress me. He goes about his
:06:57. > :07:03.business in a very quiet but business-like way. He's a quiet man.
:07:04. > :07:11.He rarely speaks. Here he is outside, gives it away. Mulgrew. He
:07:12. > :07:15.too gives it away. Kilmartin. Something on here for Glenavon
:07:16. > :07:21.perhaps. Martyn couldn't get through. Linfield a chance to break.
:07:22. > :07:37.Well, the challenge was late there by the winger playing full back,
:07:38. > :07:40.Mark Patton. On young Smyth. One of those tackles of a Cup Final. And
:07:41. > :07:49.thoughts of the previous run by Smyth. He wanted to make his mark on
:07:50. > :07:56.him. "Mark". All it will way across! Gaynor. Well, aer of his quality. I
:07:57. > :08:02.think a free kick was given. It was a push.
:08:03. > :08:14.Great spot by Raymond Hetherington. And it saves us from saying that a
:08:15. > :08:20.player of glace nor's quality will be disappointed, a real gentleman
:08:21. > :08:23.and a superb signing by David Healy. Nine minutes to half time and I
:08:24. > :08:30.don't want to tempt fate but the referee's done well so far, Mr
:08:31. > :08:36.Hetherington. He's been excellent thus far. Very, very measured,
:08:37. > :08:44.hasn't rushed any decision. Everything he's done has been
:08:45. > :08:57.correct. Even here. Burns flicks it on. Glenavon have it. Now, Mulgrew.
:08:58. > :09:09.The old head. Didn't work out though. Forward.
:09:10. > :09:14.Lowry being man handled by Kilmartin. He wants to take it
:09:15. > :09:23.quickly. Raymond Hetherington got that
:09:24. > :09:41.correct. There was a touch off the Glenavon
:09:42. > :09:45.man. Difficult thing when you are playing against Bradley is the
:09:46. > :09:53.unpredictability. He really is a talent. He is a physical presence as
:09:54. > :09:57.well. He's so off-the-cuff, Jack. He's hard to read and hard to play
:09:58. > :10:01.against. But he comes from a Gaelic background so he's used to the
:10:02. > :10:09.rough-and-tumble. And he can score goals as well. He's got 19 this
:10:10. > :10:12.season and three in the cup. 19 for the season despite the fact he was
:10:13. > :10:16.out for eight weeks because of suspension. Burns Bradford run to
:10:17. > :10:21.Smyth. Could be danger here. Smyth gets it across. There's the old head
:10:22. > :10:26.Martyn. They have given it away. Ward. Wrong foot for Ward. He'll not
:10:27. > :10:41.want to see that finish again! No. Skies it over. Previous to that was
:10:42. > :10:45.a fantastic run by Burns. We have talked about the little switch. He
:10:46. > :11:17.ran across, went to Paul Smyth. The gun slinger Bradley again.
:11:18. > :11:26.Referee plays on. Patton gets it forward. Down the line. Joel Cooper.
:11:27. > :11:33.He's done Ward again. I think this might be the first booking of the
:11:34. > :11:39.afternoon. And it is. It's not often you see Ward getting a, shall we
:11:40. > :11:45.say, a mild run around, but he has been taken at times by young Cooper.
:11:46. > :11:50.I did say pacy and probing, he certainly is, and that's all Sean
:11:51. > :11:56.Ward could do. Got that right on the money. Young Joel really is a
:11:57. > :12:02.talent. Very, very quick. Technically very, very good. Shone
:12:03. > :12:07.as an excellent defender, no doubt. On that occasion, Joel used his pace
:12:08. > :12:11.and trickery and Sean, I've got to say, the referee had no choice but
:12:12. > :12:16.to book him and now Glenavon have got themselves in a great position.
:12:17. > :12:26.Five minutes to half time. Great chance for a breakthrough.
:12:27. > :12:32.Keeper came and that'll do his confidence the world of good. Wasn't
:12:33. > :12:42.a bad ball in, but he held it. Decent ball in, Jack, but I've got
:12:43. > :12:47.to say, that showed bravery. We talked about nerves earlier on in
:12:48. > :12:52.the game but to come out of the commander's box, well done. Yes,
:12:53. > :12:56.he'll be trying to keep another clean sheet. Great ball from
:12:57. > :13:02.Braniff. Paul hit it too far for Bradley. Or has he? He did. They
:13:03. > :13:06.were unlucky. Bradley puts his hands on his head. He knows it was a good
:13:07. > :13:20.chance. Now, the danger may not be over.
:13:21. > :13:42.Kelly. Liam Donaldson. Haughey. -- Dillon. Haughey. Andrew is moving
:13:43. > :13:45.back again. So much to keep up with. I'm glad you know something about
:13:46. > :13:51.this game, Jack! Very little.
:13:52. > :13:58.Quite happy Simon Kelly to put it out of play.
:13:59. > :14:07.It's a corner to Linfield. The noise comes up from the Linfield fans in
:14:08. > :14:20.the North Stand. Three minutes to the break. What a time this would be
:14:21. > :14:28.to go in front in a Cup Final. Burns awaits.
:14:29. > :14:35.Some idiot's thought it wise to throw some sort of a bottle, plastic
:14:36. > :14:42.bottle, on to the pitch. Such a good day. I wish people like that would
:14:43. > :14:48.stay away from our game. Indeed. In comes the corner. Too high for
:14:49. > :14:54.Callacher. Referee decides it didn't get a touch off anybody. Goal kick.
:14:55. > :15:00.They would have been worried about conceding a few minutes before the
:15:01. > :15:02.break. And remember, in one of the finals under manager Peter Thompson,
:15:03. > :15:15.just scoring prior to half time. Just scoring before half time, that
:15:16. > :15:19.gave us such a lift going in that. 'S why Glenavon didn't want to
:15:20. > :15:48.concede. Referee said the ball was moving.
:15:49. > :15:57.Wants it back. David Lowry ready to get a space through this time. The
:15:58. > :16:04.referee will be happy. Mark Haughey joins the attack. Callacher also
:16:05. > :16:09.comes out. Clarke over the ball. It would be a perfect time to two in
:16:10. > :16:21.front. Just too high for the men in blue.
:16:22. > :16:32.Here is Andy Waterworth! What a great tackle that was.
:16:33. > :16:41.That was a goal-saving tackle. It was Dillon who got across there.
:16:42. > :16:49.Dillon, tremendous, tremendous defending. Centre back pal, Simon
:16:50. > :16:54.Kelly, will be delighted with that. In comes a corner. Glenavon deal
:16:55. > :17:04.with it. Shouldn't be too much time to add on. Glenavon look to break.
:17:05. > :17:14.It will fall for a Glenavon man? Falls for Haughey. Bradley's in.
:17:15. > :17:19.What a finish! Kevin Braniff, four goals in the semi-final and now he's
:17:20. > :17:25.got one in the final. What a time to get it. In injury time almost at the
:17:26. > :17:31.end of this first half, and he has done it. Absolute delight. You don't
:17:32. > :17:37.see any smiles there at the moment. But what a goal that was out of
:17:38. > :17:45.nothing. Great cross in, good ball by Haughey. Bradley outside of the
:17:46. > :17:50.foot. Braniff, what a finish! Absolutely outstanding, Jack.
:17:51. > :17:56.Linfield were in the ascendancy. We talked about Glenavon. They go
:17:57. > :18:03.forward. Watch this from a ball from Bradley. Was there maybe a little
:18:04. > :18:14.push? Not so sure. There he was, the master finisher, the talisman, what
:18:15. > :18:18.an absolute goal by Kevin Braniff right at the death. We were thinking
:18:19. > :18:23.pressure at the other end as Linfield were looking to get a goal
:18:24. > :18:29.at the end of this first half. Then we go to the other side of the pitch
:18:30. > :18:34.and that man there, Kevin Braniff, has put Glenavon up 1-0 at half
:18:35. > :18:41.time. The players just making their way
:18:42. > :18:45.off the pitch behind me. Certainly the Glenavon fans who enjoyed the
:18:46. > :18:51.first 45 minutes, Millar, what a time to score? Good time to score,
:18:52. > :18:55.that's the way we play. The boys never give up, they don't take it
:18:56. > :19:02.easy, keep going well. Linfield started well. Great save made and
:19:03. > :19:06.it's been quite 50/50 but, as the game's gone on, we were getting
:19:07. > :19:12.stronger. What was your take on the disallowed goal? It just looked like
:19:13. > :19:15.a goal you see every week, you know, he'll either give it one way or the
:19:16. > :19:20.other, I don't know what it looked like on the TV, but to me it looked
:19:21. > :19:23.like a melee. What will be said in that dressing room at half time?
:19:24. > :19:29.Obviously we'll be delighted coming in 1-0 up. We wanted to weather the
:19:30. > :19:34.storm earlier on. I'm telling the boys to get on. Playing down the
:19:35. > :19:37.channels they have looked vulnerable and the keeper's looked dodgy a
:19:38. > :19:43.couple of times and we are trying to test him. How important will the
:19:44. > :19:49.benches be? If it finishes 1-0, it won't be important. We have a decent
:19:50. > :19:55.bench with Chris Lindsay and Gary obviously. It's a strong bench. I
:19:56. > :19:59.don't know what to say, we are just happy enough now. Compose yourself
:20:00. > :20:05.and say the important things inside the dressing room. Thank you very
:20:06. > :20:09.much for speaking to us. One goal and it's for Glenavon.
:20:10. > :20:17.Millar's run out of puff but Braniff hasn't. We have a Cup Final on our
:20:18. > :20:23.hands! We waited 45 minutes. Bradley's brilliance, then Braniff
:20:24. > :20:27.at the back post, they lead 1-0, Glenavon, in this, the 136th Irish
:20:28. > :20:31.Cup Final. Gents, we had to wait 45 minutes.
:20:32. > :20:38.Arguably it did come against the run of play, but when it came, what a
:20:39. > :20:42.goal? Not sure if it was against the run of play. Linfield started
:20:43. > :20:47.strong, Glenavon worked their way into it and had a period of
:20:48. > :20:53.ascendancy, probably lasted fennel or 15, it tapered off a bit -- ten
:20:54. > :20:59.or 15. The counterattack from the corner developed really well and a
:21:00. > :21:04.great pass from B Bradley on that right hand side. He had the vision
:21:05. > :21:07.and technical ability to clip it across outside of the foot. You
:21:08. > :21:12.would fancy Braniff in that situation and he put it away. He's
:21:13. > :21:16.someone that you know all too well all about four goals against you in
:21:17. > :21:20.the semi-final and Braniff again, the man who makes the difference
:21:21. > :21:28.this afternoon in the first 45. Take a look at it. Yes, he's been superb.
:21:29. > :21:32.This is 100 metres in the air. He knew the defender was coming on his
:21:33. > :21:38.blind side and spun him in one moment. Perfect how he controlled
:21:39. > :21:43.the ball. He holds it up. He's on the spot, five, six yards of space,
:21:44. > :21:48.and he's been like that all day. A defensive mistake for the goal
:21:49. > :21:52.arguably? Yes, but look at Braniff from deep position, calls for the
:21:53. > :21:56.ball. Finds his space. He's 33 years old. He hasn't got the sprinty legs
:21:57. > :22:02.any more, he's got the brain that finds his way into good positions.
:22:03. > :22:07.Credit to Bradley, what a ball? ! Awesome ball. That's a skill in
:22:08. > :22:11.itself. Outside of the left foot, spinning in the right direction and
:22:12. > :22:16.of course, look at this finish here. That's quality. He doesn't miss from
:22:17. > :22:20.those distances. Brilliant player. Look who is sorry and put pressure
:22:21. > :22:28.here. Mark Patton left back. Counterattack. The mistake yes, Sean
:22:29. > :22:41.Ward, he's cleared it anywhere unfortunately for him he's picked
:22:42. > :22:47.out Andy. He said that's how we play, attacking into the box. Yes,
:22:48. > :22:51.he picked out Andy Hall. The opening 15 minutes were all Linfield and the
:22:52. > :22:57.commentator said they might rue the missed chances? They do have chances
:22:58. > :23:01.early on. This is the first one? This is first opportunity, it's all
:23:02. > :23:06.earlier on, the seventh minute. I think it's possibly going wide. We
:23:07. > :23:14.talked about the pitch being lively and that can help. I think it
:23:15. > :23:18.arrives obvious top of Waterworth. Did well with the block. Gets the
:23:19. > :23:25.cross and blocks it. Brilliant save. Turning point possibly of the game.
:23:26. > :23:34.Gets a toe on it. Great reaction save. Keeps it level. Everyone says
:23:35. > :23:40.how that can affect the game. It's one of those ones, on another day,
:23:41. > :23:45.Waterworth, you can see he's got a yard on Marshall. If he arrives a
:23:46. > :23:51.second later, it's going in the back of the net. Linfield don't take any
:23:52. > :23:57.chances. So important to get the goal on the ascendancy. They are not
:23:58. > :24:00.out and out chances, you know. I think Glenavon will be happy with
:24:01. > :24:05.that. Keeping Linfield at a distance. The half chances are not
:24:06. > :24:10.even half chances, I don't think they've pressurised the game in the
:24:11. > :24:15.right area, Linfield, to put Glenavon under more pressure. Where
:24:16. > :24:18.should they be pressurising, what are you saying they should be doing
:24:19. > :24:22.differently? They are a yard late into the box, and that's just in
:24:23. > :24:26.your brain. We saw earlier on, the ball came in and Ross Gaynor should
:24:27. > :24:30.have been attacking the game, they got down the side clipped a nice
:24:31. > :24:34.ball in and Gaynor has stayed out on the edge, instead of being on the
:24:35. > :24:39.six yard line to head in. It's taking that extra, a bit like what
:24:40. > :24:43.we talked about with Glenavon hunting the game, their left back
:24:44. > :24:48.being in the six yard line. Linfield aren't doing that. We picked out
:24:49. > :24:56.Joel Cooper as one to watch. Let's take a look. Cross or shot? First of
:24:57. > :25:02.all, it's controlled magnificent. Sets his man up, cuts inside. On
:25:03. > :25:06.another day, that's in the top corner and it's a wonderful goal.
:25:07. > :25:12.Only he will know if he was trying to guide it into the top corner. I
:25:13. > :25:16.think he is crossing it. It turned that wave that Linfield had at the
:25:17. > :25:22.start. That got the crowd on side again. From there, they picked their
:25:23. > :25:30.game up and had a little ten or 15 moments and that was one of those
:25:31. > :25:34.moments that got Glenavon going. We talked about that with Thomas and
:25:35. > :25:38.they said it happens every day but I think the ref got this spot on? I
:25:39. > :25:42.can understand where Paul is coming from, from the distance he was at,
:25:43. > :25:49.probably looks like two or three players going in for the challenge.
:25:50. > :25:53.We look at that again. Ciaran Martyn catches Callacher. Credit to the
:25:54. > :26:01.referee, we didn't want to be looking at referee mistakes, he gets
:26:02. > :26:05.it 100% bang on there. We saw Ciaran coming on, saying it's a foul all
:26:06. > :26:11.day, over the player's legs, then the ball breaks, the foul committed
:26:12. > :26:14.by Martyn I felt? Yes. If the ball had become available and Martyn
:26:15. > :26:18.dived in and put it into the net, have you had said fair enough goal
:26:19. > :26:54.but he catches Callacher, the ball doesn't move.
:26:55. > :26:58.he just went a second early and the two centre-backs stepped up.
:26:59. > :27:04.Linfield will have to go into their dressing room and work out what
:27:05. > :27:11.their plan is. I would like to see them pressed the game. You will both
:27:12. > :27:19.enjoy this. Today's Irish Cup Final is a landmark moment for our Jacqui,
:27:20. > :27:28.and today brings him. Call. -- fail circle.
:27:29. > :27:37.AM looking for it to my 29th Irish Cup Final. 1992 was my first
:27:38. > :27:47.commentary for the BBC and it just happened to be Glenavon two,
:27:48. > :27:54.Linfield one. Is that an omen for today? You're not nervous,
:27:55. > :28:00.experience teaches you not to be nervous but apprehensive because
:28:01. > :28:04.it's like playing, you prepare. You have to care and you have to worry
:28:05. > :28:12.and then you can put one, and to meet its performing. It's
:28:13. > :28:17.journalistic. The research, the work, but you are also a performer.
:28:18. > :28:22.You have to perform, when that red light goes on, when the whistle
:28:23. > :28:28.blows, it's unscripted. I've always called it live theatre. You could
:28:29. > :28:34.have a goal, a bad tackle, a man sent off, but it's all there, so was
:28:35. > :28:45.Roy Walker said, just say what you see. I thought I had the best of it
:28:46. > :28:50.with the 1982 and 1986 teams getting for cup finals, then David Healy
:28:51. > :28:59.scoring goals for fun. The flag stays down. Then he hit it and I
:29:00. > :29:07.said, Healy! Which I said quite a few times and that was a memorable
:29:08. > :29:12.result. The old Windsor Park, I thought it was going to crumble that
:29:13. > :29:14.night. Those are memories that will always be with me and all the rest
:29:15. > :29:27.of the fans. You've been a great servant to
:29:28. > :29:41.Northern Ireland, the sport and the BBC. Jackie, Jackie, Jackie
:29:42. > :29:49.Fullerton! Are you enjoying it? My advice to younger people is to work.
:29:50. > :29:54.If you put into work and you have that little bit of quality some
:29:55. > :30:01.sort, knowledge of the game, it might happen. All the talk is of
:30:02. > :30:09.impending relegation. What do you say to the Taggart and McNamee who
:30:10. > :30:16.are hot on your heels? Not a chance! Know, take that again.
:30:17. > :30:24.You're living the moment as a fan, which basically I am. I just been
:30:25. > :30:30.lucky enough to be a guy who managed to get the microphone. People might
:30:31. > :30:37.ask me, are you sad to be leaving. I'm not sad. Yes, you're sad that
:30:38. > :30:39.something is coming to an end but I've had such a great career in TV
:30:40. > :31:01.over 40 years, I've been blessed. He once said to me in his own way,
:31:02. > :31:06.Mark, one day this could all be yours, but I said, Jackie, all I
:31:07. > :31:11.want is their hair. Can I say, can you believe it?
:31:12. > :31:19.And I still have some of the hair, Mark. That was a nice piece. I've
:31:20. > :31:25.been lucky to meet a lot of people like Alex Ferguson and that's been
:31:26. > :31:30.one of the perks of the game, and this man I have known since he had
:31:31. > :31:36.long blonde hair and a big rumbustious centre-half, and he's
:31:37. > :31:42.now manager of the law mean that United, the club I own, so I'm happy
:31:43. > :31:46.he is working for me -- Ballymena. Thank you very much indeed.
:31:47. > :31:57.Jackie, if you look behind you, Thomas Kane is there with a few days
:31:58. > :32:03.you might know. Yes, that is Darren, all three of Jackie's sons are
:32:04. > :32:08.sports journalists. He is a fixture in the press boxes, not just here
:32:09. > :32:14.but all over the world. How special was today for him? It was quite an
:32:15. > :32:21.emotional day for dad. When he started out in TV, it was 1973, I
:32:22. > :32:26.was three years old and here we are at doing a comment to read today and
:32:27. > :32:33.I'm a wizened middle-aged man so it's been an incredible career for
:32:34. > :32:37.him and I admire his drive and his professionalism and his desire to
:32:38. > :32:43.work. I'm sure he will miss it but he will enjoy his retirement. Thank
:32:44. > :32:49.you, Darren. There is only one Jackie Fullerton MBE. Thank you,
:32:50. > :32:53.Thomas, and thank you, Darren, for those lovely words. I'll give you
:32:54. > :33:03.that money afterwards. He'll be lucky! Let's get back to the game.
:33:04. > :33:12.Very nice tribute there, memories, and I now have to try and
:33:13. > :33:23.concentrate, David. Can you hear, David? Have you done this before,
:33:24. > :33:31.David? First time, Jack! That was a fantastic tribute, and richly
:33:32. > :33:36.deserved. Back to the business. Ward has had a testing time today. Lowry
:33:37. > :33:46.goes right, Paul Smyth. A chance to deliver a cross, get a
:33:47. > :33:53.corner instead, the ball out of play. This is what David Healy would
:33:54. > :33:58.have wanted, Linfield to go right at the Navan and try to snatch an early
:33:59. > :33:59.goal, putting pressure on immediately, and they have got a
:34:00. > :34:13.corner. Plenty of movement in there. It's not a bad ball, they are
:34:14. > :34:20.looking for a handball. They aren't going to get it. I can't see him
:34:21. > :34:28.getting that. I think it was Ciaran Martyn who was there. We can see
:34:29. > :34:33.that in full but it was good defending and quite rightly, he's
:34:34. > :34:57.given a pawn. -- corner. There could be a brake on here. What
:34:58. > :35:07.they good ball. Gone to the cross. Sean Ward just got it away. They
:35:08. > :35:11.were almost caught. Chris talk at half-time about counterattacking
:35:12. > :35:15.play and there Mark Patton brought forward a great place but on this
:35:16. > :35:23.occasion his team-mates couldn't keep up with him. On recent form,
:35:24. > :35:29.Linfield have lost just one of their last 13. Glenavon, they have lost
:35:30. > :35:37.three of their last 13, so Linfield slightly better form but there are
:35:38. > :35:48.even further behind! It's Andy Hall, I believe, who stuck it in the
:35:49. > :35:56.corner. Glenavon, the 3-1 underdogs, art 2-0 up. Three minutes after the
:35:57. > :36:08.break Gary Hamilton cannot believe it. Hall, sixth goal of the season,
:36:09. > :36:15.second in the cup. And what a stunner for Linfield. We talked
:36:16. > :36:23.about Linfield trying to get that equalising goal and instead it's
:36:24. > :36:27.Glenavon, and I don't want to pick people out but defensively Linfield
:36:28. > :36:34.have to do that are there. It was through the legs of Matthew Clarke.
:36:35. > :36:42.He took a good first touch, Andy Hall, and he finished it. A lay-off
:36:43. > :36:48.in a championship last season and here he is scoring in an Irish Cup
:36:49. > :36:54.Final. That's football. He took a great first touch but he shouldn't
:36:55. > :37:06.have been given the time or space. Linfield are right back at Glenavon.
:37:07. > :37:16.Let's see this year. That's a free kick that should be a booking. I
:37:17. > :37:17.haven't seen a card. That was premeditated to hold Mr Waterworth
:37:18. > :37:36.up. They have to defend, but my
:37:37. > :37:44.goodness, 48 minutes, 2-0. But there is a long, long way to go.
:37:45. > :37:59.Aaron Burns has 27 goals this season. He was there. That man
:38:00. > :38:07.again, Jonathan Tuffey, get it up and over. Some people might say that
:38:08. > :38:21.was a strict board take. You have to get there. In comes the corner. It's
:38:22. > :38:30.not awake yet. Back into the middle. That could cause some problems.
:38:31. > :38:42.Glenavon break. They get a lucky bounce.
:38:43. > :38:52.And this core Linfield is a testing period. The players' own mental
:38:53. > :38:57.strength, their belief, here we have the ball taken down by Aaron Burns.
:38:58. > :39:12.I don't see him getting a multi-for that. Absolutely not. He didn't have
:39:13. > :39:16.his arm out in anyway. Even he can't laugh at that, Braniff, you don't
:39:17. > :39:24.often see that but he got the first goal. He has nothing to smile about,
:39:25. > :39:28.David Healy. He will wonder if we can leave it for the next five
:39:29. > :39:35.minutes to see how layers respond or do we make a change to shake things
:39:36. > :39:40.up. I know there was a lot of hurt in the dressing room, when they lost
:39:41. > :39:45.that Shield final earlier this season and David Healy told them to
:39:46. > :39:50.mark the state in their diaries and they would try to get to the cup
:39:51. > :39:57.final and make amends. They got to the cup final but at this moment
:39:58. > :40:06.they are far from making amends. 52 minutes almost gone, we need a bit
:40:07. > :40:09.of magic from somebody. Andy Waterworth, the talismanic skipper,
:40:10. > :40:20.they need a goal from somewhere. The difficulty is that you get a
:40:21. > :40:27.little more tents, you misplaced passes, as has just been the case,
:40:28. > :40:32.and also Glenavon don't have to chase the game, so I am not saying
:40:33. > :40:37.they will sit back and invite Linfield on but they maybe don't
:40:38. > :40:43.have to throw men on as quickly, so when they are defending they can be
:40:44. > :40:47.quick on the counterattack and in field can be susceptible to a third,
:40:48. > :40:52.so Linfield need to be careful they don't concede a third. A fine
:40:53. > :41:02.dividing line because they have to go for it. Glenavon get it back.
:41:03. > :41:08.Lovely ball, Bradley, the willing runner. He did so well, Bruce
:41:09. > :41:29.Marshall gets it in. Lovely bit of skill. Braniff, who
:41:30. > :41:38.celebrated his new contract with a goal, free kick given, Glenavon
:41:39. > :41:44.shout for a multi-perhaps but it was always a free kick. Glenavon or
:41:45. > :41:49.almost playing with a swagger. You see real confidence when they get
:41:50. > :41:53.the ball around the box and maybe desperation from Linfield making
:41:54. > :42:09.sure they do not go a third goal down. Bradley, he tries to curl it
:42:10. > :42:15.but out of luck. It's a while since he got a goal. In February he got
:42:16. > :42:20.two against Portadown and then he was suspended for eight weeks but he
:42:21. > :42:27.hasn't scored since he got back, but he's played his part to date with
:42:28. > :42:29.his workrate. No doubt, benefited are some great pressing by Andrew
:42:30. > :42:42.Hall. Smyth has done well, he gets the
:42:43. > :42:51.cross in but it's cleared away, however briefly. And Linfield David
:42:52. > :43:00.away. Braniff holding off the challenge of Haughey. The man who
:43:01. > :43:05.laid in England myth will ball. He's been round the few corners, Kevin
:43:06. > :43:12.Braniff, he knows the game. Just looking at the bench for Linfield,
:43:13. > :43:17.Kirk Millar, Niall Quinn, midfielder, Steven Fallon can play
:43:18. > :43:22.either wing and we have the goalkeeper, Ross Glendening, so you
:43:23. > :43:27.might see Kirk Millar as one of the changes. I think you're right. I
:43:28. > :43:34.watched him in the latter part of the season and when he has played he
:43:35. > :43:48.has impressed me and you called at 110% correct. He is coming on. How
:43:49. > :43:52.do I do it? Kirk Millar coming on. Aaron Burns is going to play wide
:43:53. > :44:00.left now, Kirk is going to play wide right. Sensible change, they had to
:44:01. > :44:07.do something. As I predict that, there I see it, he was the obvious
:44:08. > :44:13.choice. They had to do something because they would have wanted to
:44:14. > :44:18.get a goal, they didn't, court again, great finish by Andrew Hall.
:44:19. > :44:22.You can see the disappointment in Matthew Clarke. No one wants to come
:44:23. > :44:29.off and eight cup final. Especially when you work to done. But managers
:44:30. > :44:35.have to make decisions for the team and they would was correct there.
:44:36. > :44:44.Healy likes Kirk Millar because this is his 45th appearance of the
:44:45. > :44:49.season, Linfield's 53rd game of the season, he has tough decisions to
:44:50. > :44:58.make. He hoping this change will reinvigorate the team. Bradley has
:44:59. > :45:04.done well, that is not a bad ball. Young Smyth has come over the side,
:45:05. > :45:13.Marshall is showing great pace. This is good from Linfield. Kirk Millar
:45:14. > :45:21.did well to retrieve the situation. Here is Lowry, it nearly got to him.
:45:22. > :45:24.Paul Smyth hit it and it was deflected, Rhys Marshall putting his
:45:25. > :45:34.body on the line to get that one away. It was a great ball by Sean
:45:35. > :45:45.Ward, and that was great offending, applauded by Jonathan Tuffey. Over
:45:46. > :45:50.it comes, oh, dear. Jimmy Callacher, who scored in the cup final here two
:45:51. > :45:56.years ago when Glentoran beat Cliftonville in the final, he'd
:45:57. > :46:02.looked like he thought he should have scored again in a final. Jimmy
:46:03. > :46:06.gets away from his marker, clever movement but when you get that
:46:07. > :46:13.space, the big fellow will be disappointed. Usually he is clinical
:46:14. > :46:20.in those situations. It is getting to the stage, in this final, coming
:46:21. > :46:28.up to the hour, that nothing is going for Linfield. No, there's
:46:29. > :46:38.certainly plenty of effort and commitment but unfortunately
:46:39. > :46:46.Glenavon are very much in control. Ross Gaynor couldn't keep it in. And
:46:47. > :46:51.when I say unfortunately, I mean unfortunately for Linfield, I don't
:46:52. > :46:59.want people to think I am biased. Perish the thought, David. You are a
:47:00. > :47:07.Ballymena man now, remember that. Very much so, Jack. We're laughing
:47:08. > :47:14.but it is no laughing matter for Linfield or their fans. In 2012, you
:47:15. > :47:22.were the manager here, a glorious double, but since then neither of
:47:23. > :47:31.the major trophies. David Healy was hoping to put an end to that
:47:32. > :47:40.drought. This is good from Hall, and Braniff was in at the near post.
:47:41. > :47:51.Just couldn't get the touch. And young Cooper got a touch there.
:47:52. > :47:59.Absolutely fun task. Superb ball. Here's Braniff, all the way through.
:48:00. > :48:03.Gareth Deane has lost his record of keeping clean sheets after two
:48:04. > :48:14.first-half goals, one first-half goal, rather. Then one three minutes
:48:15. > :48:25.afterwards. One hour exactly of the game gone. That was almost a good
:48:26. > :48:32.ball. Ross Gaynor raided it through. Waterworth couldn't capitalise.
:48:33. > :48:38.Sometimes when you are behind, you just don't get that pass exactly
:48:39. > :48:43.right, the ball either goes ahead or behind you, you don't get the
:48:44. > :48:52.fortune you need. You're always a little horrid. -- curried. And
:48:53. > :48:59.because you are hurrying, you end up becoming more anxious and making
:49:00. > :49:04.mistakes. It's easy appear, you can say he should have done this or
:49:05. > :49:08.that, but a different matter out there, especially when you are
:49:09. > :49:14.trailing in a cup final and there are 30 minutes left. Well we may
:49:15. > :49:17.have played in different generations, we have played so we
:49:18. > :49:22.know what it is like for those players. I would have preferred
:49:23. > :49:31.different eras to generations, David, but anyway... I know where
:49:32. > :49:35.you are coming from. There's Andy Kilmartin getting booked, he could
:49:36. > :49:40.have been booked earlier. That's one that he took for the team, just
:49:41. > :49:48.breaking plates up. Not allowing them to get into a fluid rhythm.
:49:49. > :49:52.There's a long way to go and eight Linfield goal will change the whole
:49:53. > :50:03.concept and psyche of this game. The keeper comes, Tuffey does his job
:50:04. > :50:08.well. You absolutely love that as a defender, when the ball comes into
:50:09. > :50:12.the box, your goalkeeper is very commanding, there's the foul I was
:50:13. > :50:17.talking about, he knows what he was doing that then when the ball is put
:50:18. > :50:25.into the box, Jonathan takes it in a most accomplished manner.
:50:26. > :50:36.It's good goalkeeping by young Deane. Well done the goalkeeper.
:50:37. > :50:43.Superb goalkeeping by Gareth Deane. Gets behind the defender, puts the
:50:44. > :50:57.ball in the box, and Gareth court. He had to, did very well. Ball
:50:58. > :51:06.through to the keeper. If we look back at that Kilmartin booking when
:51:07. > :51:12.we get a moment. Through when taking, it's a long ball and it's
:51:13. > :51:21.cleared. And there is a free kick, and there is another yellow card.
:51:22. > :51:29.Ciaran Martyn goes in the book. I don't think he can have any
:51:30. > :51:35.arguments there. Jimmy was going to get to the ball first and a little
:51:36. > :51:40.experience taking one for the team, albeit they conceded a free kick,
:51:41. > :51:44.there is Kilmartin, who was also booked earlier, so that's the two
:51:45. > :51:50.centre Linfield players both on yellow cards and they need to tread
:51:51. > :51:57.carefully. Linfield need a goal to get that into this cup final. Well
:51:58. > :52:03.held by Tuffey, and a little nudge there on the keeper. Callacher
:52:04. > :52:05.climbed so high that couldn't get the power into it. Well shepherded
:52:06. > :52:22.from the ball by Conor Dillon. Lowry, a chance to make ground. He
:52:23. > :52:27.didn't take it, and he gives it away. And that's not what the doctor
:52:28. > :52:38.ordered, or what David Healy ordered. Ross Gaynor looks for a
:52:39. > :52:49.long ball. And there is a little bit of a late challenge from Stephen
:52:50. > :53:00.Lowry. And that's just frustration on his part. Here we will see it. I
:53:01. > :53:09.didn't see a card. The reason why, I think Stephen Lowry has been taken
:53:10. > :53:15.into consideration. Spare a thought for that fellow in the picture. This
:53:16. > :53:19.is a time when you are so helpless as a manager. You can do nothing
:53:20. > :53:24.when Europe players crossed that white line. You can maybe make
:53:25. > :53:29.tactical changes but it is down to the players and David will be hoping
:53:30. > :53:37.his players can get some inspiration somewhere. Waterworth is getting
:53:38. > :53:44.that inspiration now. It's our way for the corner. The hope will build
:53:45. > :53:50.in the North stand which houses Linfield fans. Good luck by Dillon.
:53:51. > :53:57.It is true no lack of effort I Linfield, they are doing everything
:53:58. > :54:06.they have two get at least a first goal back. It's Millar, the subject,
:54:07. > :54:20.with the corner, it's a good ball in. Oh, dear. Kirk Millar, a week
:54:21. > :54:28.ball. A little flick with the outside of the foot. Cooper did so
:54:29. > :54:39.well. It may not be over, but it is now. Mulgrew get it back to Deane in
:54:40. > :54:46.goal. Millar is being closed down by Ciaran Martyn and you have to give
:54:47. > :54:53.Glenavon credit, they are to nil up but their work ethic is top drawer.
:54:54. > :54:58.It's their work rate but also coordination, they are pressing the
:54:59. > :55:02.ball well and squeezing the life out of any Linfield attacks. You can see
:55:03. > :55:11.the shape of the head from Ross Gaynor and that satisfied grin of
:55:12. > :55:17.Andy Hall. Good defensive play and you can see the applause and
:55:18. > :55:27.appreciation of the Glenavon fans. Mark Sykes is coming on. Ciaran
:55:28. > :55:33.Martyn, the skipper, he was 36 in March, he's putting a good shift 67
:55:34. > :55:42.minutes, so he's played his part. A big hug from Gary Hamilton. He's
:55:43. > :55:46.played a tremendous part, no doubt, but don't be thinking this is
:55:47. > :55:57.because he is 36, he made another challenge and I think Gary is
:55:58. > :56:02.thinking he doesn't want... To men. It might be to do with the legs but
:56:03. > :56:10.Sykes is coming on, another impressive performer, another one of
:56:11. > :56:23.the exciting young players. All right, I said the wrong thing, no
:56:24. > :56:32.need to on about it. -- hammer on. Linfield, 68 minutes gone, Braniff
:56:33. > :56:41.helps it on its way. Now there is a chance here, and early ball would
:56:42. > :56:49.put Bradley in. Cooper goes down. Goalkick, simulation. I would like
:56:50. > :56:55.to see this again. I'm not so sure we will have the luxury of this. He
:56:56. > :57:07.is going at pace. No, he's brought the challenge. I wasn't sure from
:57:08. > :57:14.the first angle. Let's look again. The trickery, the pace, no. Well
:57:15. > :57:22.done, Raymond Hetherington. Good refereeing. Excellent. Let's give
:57:23. > :57:31.the referee the praise, they get enough criticism. That was Dillon
:57:32. > :57:37.with the header. Linfield still coming, trying to get forward.
:57:38. > :57:48.Nearly threw from Lowry but not quite. Andy Waterworth was on his
:57:49. > :57:53.way but didn't get to him. We just need somebody in blue to light a
:57:54. > :58:01.fuse and produce that bit of quality. We haven't really seen
:58:02. > :58:08.that. 20 minutes left. This is the time when we give back to the first
:58:09. > :58:13.15 minutes and I referred to when you were in the ascendancy you want
:58:14. > :58:17.to profit, but Linfield didn't do so, at now they are having to play
:58:18. > :58:25.with aspiration and throw men forward and hope something comes
:58:26. > :58:35.off, which is the right thing to do. Yeah, they have got to go for it.
:58:36. > :58:43.Good challenge there, Rhys Marshall. Just 21, this is his 121st
:58:44. > :58:49.appearance, so I think he might clock up quite a number of games but
:58:50. > :58:53.he could be fit for a higher level off at all. He has that pace about.
:58:54. > :59:12.-- about him. Burns. It's away for another corner.
:59:13. > :59:22.Kilmartin was there. Quiet, unassuming but a performer. You
:59:23. > :59:32.would almost think Linfield have to get something now.
:59:33. > :59:42.In goes the header. Tuffey. Easy for him.
:59:43. > :59:58.Ross Gaynor. No problems. Cooper, lovely. Lovely again. Braniff waited
:59:59. > :00:03.too long. Well closed down. Give Ross Gaynor corrode there, right on
:00:04. > :00:26.top of him -- credit there, right on top of him.
:00:27. > :00:34.Glenavon are here now in the final after beating several teams
:00:35. > :00:40.beforehand. It's their 17th final, won it just six times. The last time
:00:41. > :00:47.was two years ago. What a job Gary Hamilton is doing. It's not over
:00:48. > :00:54.yet, of course. But to all intents and purposes, it's a long way back
:00:55. > :00:57.for the men in blue. They are finding it difficult to get the
:00:58. > :01:07.final pass in, the penetrative pass, to create that opportunity. At the
:01:08. > :01:11.moment, Glenavon are very much in control and charge. Great ball from
:01:12. > :01:38.Braniff. Haughey. Cooper. Lovely play. Kilmartin.
:01:39. > :01:47.Braniff thought he should get something there.
:01:48. > :02:03.I think Glenavon players thought there that there might have been a
:02:04. > :02:10.card on display. It wasn't a good tackle. No, I have to agree. Back in
:02:11. > :02:15.the day they would have said it's a typical centre forward tackle and
:02:16. > :02:24.they don't really mean it, yet those tackles can hurt you. Very much so.
:02:25. > :02:57.Touch on. Mulgrew. You become anxious and your touch
:02:58. > :03:04.and pass isn't as measured. Gaynor. Millar. Waterworth. No real supply
:03:05. > :03:09.of the ball today, Waterworth. They have got a free kick, Linfield.
:03:10. > :03:20.Coming up to 15 minutes left of the 90.
:03:21. > :03:24.Yellow card for Mr Kelly. He's asking what for. He knows exactly
:03:25. > :03:45.what for. Wastes another few seconds as well
:03:46. > :03:49.as the clock runs down. Need to conjure up something quickly or else
:03:50. > :03:55.this final is done and dusted in favour of Glenavon. Gaynor.
:03:56. > :04:04.Callacher. Can't get to it. Dillon with the header. Braniff. Given it
:04:05. > :04:10.away. A bit of a late challenge there.
:04:11. > :04:23.Lowry thinks it was a bit of play acting but he's been booked. And
:04:24. > :04:26.that is frustration. To be fair to Raymond Hetherington, it was the
:04:27. > :04:32.previous tackle that maybe he could have been backed for. He had no
:04:33. > :04:53.choice. He's going for a 3-4-3. Less than 15
:04:54. > :04:55.to go, they are going to have to go for it. All-or-nothing now for the
:04:56. > :05:20.boss. Very much so. He's worried at the time-wasting
:05:21. > :05:31.there. There's the flick-on. The south stand below us is noisy and
:05:32. > :05:35.they are singing. They can see the Irish cup being paraded through
:05:36. > :05:43.Lurgan in the next few days so why shouldn't they be happy? Underdogs.
:05:44. > :05:46.Linfield five six favourites. Glenavon 3-1 you could have got. I
:05:47. > :06:13.said they were generous odds at the start.
:06:14. > :06:23.Linfield don't need that. 12 minutes left. Made the contactical switch.
:06:24. > :06:31.He's gone with three at the back. Quinn has come to the left. He's
:06:32. > :06:42.pushed another man forward. They are simply going for broke. They have
:06:43. > :06:58.to. Waterworth. Millar. Away for the corner.
:06:59. > :07:11.It wasn't a great one. Hit by Waterworth but the angle was against
:07:12. > :07:18.him. It's been that sort of day for Waterworth and Linfield. Good effort
:07:19. > :07:25.though. Great effort. Got in front of the defender very well. Quinn,
:07:26. > :07:27.plenty of pace on it. Andrew didn't have to do too much. Unfortunately
:07:28. > :07:51.for him, it was off target. No movement at the dug-outs I'm
:07:52. > :08:04.told. Quinn. Smyth. Free kick for that.
:08:05. > :08:10.That wasn't a good tackle. Not sure what he's arguing about. I think
:08:11. > :08:16.what you'll see is that certainly there is a clear, clear, clear free
:08:17. > :08:19.kick, but then there's a little, you don't see nit the shot there, but
:08:20. > :08:26.there was a little Beckham-like kickout by Smyth. He's got that in
:08:27. > :08:29.his locker young Smyth hasn't he? That's what Rhys Marshall was
:08:30. > :08:31.bringing to the referee's attention. Raymond's right to ignore it, to be
:08:32. > :08:44.fair. Are we to get a cameo role from the
:08:45. > :08:49.player/manager? 35 years of age. He's suffered a lot of injuries over
:08:50. > :08:54.his career at different times. I think this might be his last season.
:08:55. > :08:59.But at the moment, Glenavon are defending a free kick. Ten minutes
:09:00. > :09:08.left. A Linfield goal would give us an exciting finish.
:09:09. > :09:15.David with nine minutes left, it looks as though it will be settled
:09:16. > :09:20.in the 90 minutes. You have to think about man-of-the-match? Certainly
:09:21. > :09:22.there's been several very impressive performers. Bradley has worked
:09:23. > :09:35.tirelessly. Not yet, day slid. -- David. OK,
:09:36. > :09:40.Jack. We'll leave it to the last minute. There are a few candidates
:09:41. > :09:45.you would say at this moment in time.
:09:46. > :09:53.Linfield fans in the North Stand, quiet in the main but some still
:09:54. > :09:54.animated hoping for something of a comeback to get back into this
:09:55. > :10:03.final. Doesn't look as the It's going to
:10:04. > :10:20.happen. But who knows. Eight minutes left.
:10:21. > :10:31.Glenavon are getting every man behind the ball. Ward. Mullah should
:10:32. > :10:39.have been expecting that. Good run by Ward. He'll be disappointed.
:10:40. > :10:50.There he is. I think they are saying to him, are you sure you are going
:10:51. > :10:56.on. If you remember back to the last victory in the Irish Cup, he came on
:10:57. > :11:00.and basically settled things down, calmed nerves. And he got a
:11:01. > :11:08.Ballymena man on. Chance for a third. Braniff. He couldn't make it
:11:09. > :11:18.a real double celebration for himself. I would have put my house
:11:19. > :11:25.on Braniff finishing that. So cool, so much skill. The keeper did well,
:11:26. > :11:35.to his credit. Here comb Linfield. It's all happening. Linfield still
:11:36. > :11:39.trying to play their football. Great ball in. Waterworth should have done
:11:40. > :11:44.better with that. Surely he was there for the header and I think the
:11:45. > :11:55.look tells you he knows that. No doubt about it. Glorious cross in.
:11:56. > :12:14.Appealing for a corner which he knows he wasn't getting.
:12:15. > :12:24.Enjoying the result. Here is the man coming on for his fourth final. He
:12:25. > :12:30.won two of those, one with Portadown and one two years ago with Glenavon.
:12:31. > :12:35.He's 35, in his twilight, but as a manager, he's in the Spotlight.
:12:36. > :12:40.Couldn't have put it any better. Last week, he's centre half, this
:12:41. > :12:46.week centre forward. Must play tribute to him. What a contribution
:12:47. > :12:50.he's made today, Bradley. Gary's just come on to settle the nerves
:12:51. > :13:09.and help manage the game out. I'm not sure if viewers at home
:13:10. > :13:14.could hear that, but I'm glad of that announcement, that the pitch is
:13:15. > :13:18.kept clear of fans because it allows whoever is victorious, the players
:13:19. > :13:28.to enjoy their moment, and the fans in the stands to enjoy it also.
:13:29. > :13:38.Absolutely. Linfield won against Bangor in 1994. 22 years ago. Just a
:13:39. > :13:48.meaningless start for this Linfield team who 'll be so hurt and
:13:49. > :13:56.devastated by this result. Time running away from them. It's hard to
:13:57. > :14:00.cope with, David. I was unlucky, I didn't get to play in a final, you
:14:01. > :14:09.did. You didn't win it, as a player, but you've had the devastation of
:14:10. > :14:11.losing finals, as a player. It really is a most gut-wrenching
:14:12. > :14:27.feeling. As a player, it was really an awful
:14:28. > :14:33.draining doiventing feeling. There is such a build-up to this massive
:14:34. > :14:45.day -- disappointing. Last day of the season. When you are second
:14:46. > :14:55.best, you really do feel low. Here comes Waterworth.
:14:56. > :15:45.David Healy, it's all gone wrong. His second Cup Final of the season.
:15:46. > :15:57.Two minutes left. Man-of-the-match time? Who's won it? Some outstanding
:15:58. > :16:00.performances. Tuffey had a very, very important save to make. He's
:16:01. > :16:08.been very, very safe in what he's done. Very assured. He's proved best
:16:09. > :16:15.goalkeeper in the league. Centre of the park. Kilmartin was absolutely
:16:16. > :16:21.excellent. Wide areas, we had Joel Cooper, Andy Hall, with the work
:16:22. > :16:30.rate of Owen Bradley. But for me, the man-of-the-match has got to go
:16:31. > :16:40.to Kevin Braniff. Kevin Braniff is the BBC man-of-the-match. When
:16:41. > :16:45.things aren't going for you, Jack, they just don't go for you. Any
:16:46. > :16:52.other day, Andrew would have got his touch right and buried it. You can
:16:53. > :16:55.see the frustration. Kevin Braniff, marvellous first goal. It was a
:16:56. > :17:02.better goal than people give credit for because the ball just touched
:17:03. > :17:07.the ground before he hit it, it was almost a little half volley. Ball
:17:08. > :17:11.control was excellent and also work rate for the team. You mentioned
:17:12. > :17:17.about him back defending at corner kicks and free kicks. It's been a
:17:18. > :17:29.most comprehensive and holistic performance.
:17:30. > :17:37.His side are about to win the Irish cup, second time in three years. Can
:17:38. > :17:46.you believe it? Linfield will have something to say about it at the
:17:47. > :17:49.death. Doesn't look like it now. Sean Ward. Hamilton is playing like
:17:50. > :18:08.a man possessed. Couple of free kicks as well. He's
:18:09. > :18:23.helping his team just manage the game out.
:18:24. > :18:34.Cooper is coming off for Kearns. He's had a very, very good match.
:18:35. > :18:58.That's how well he played! Appreciation there.
:18:59. > :19:05.Way over the far side, the left-wing, it was a wonder goal. But
:19:06. > :19:20.did he mean it? He'll always claim he did and why not. Celebrating
:19:21. > :19:21.already. The new coach there at Glenavon, formerly of Ballymena,
:19:22. > :19:46.he's played in a cup himself. A fantastic job has been done at
:19:47. > :19:53.Glenavon and the appreciation for the coach, the coaching staff and
:19:54. > :19:59.the players, you have got to say that the contributions shouldn't go
:20:00. > :20:03.unnoticed. I hardly heard a word of that, the director was given end of
:20:04. > :20:11.Machin struckions and he was very loud in my ear. But it's all
:20:12. > :20:15.petering out -- end of match instructions.
:20:16. > :20:24.I haven't seen the sign from the linesman or the fourth official.
:20:25. > :20:31.From our vantage point, we are out of sight. Who designed this stadium?
:20:32. > :20:36.! There can't be more than four minutes I wouldn't have thought.
:20:37. > :20:45.We've had a few... Three minutes of time added. You can feel in many
:20:46. > :20:51.ways, you give credit to the winners, there they are, about to
:20:52. > :20:55.enjoy themselves, but you look at the North Stand and the Linfield
:20:56. > :20:59.fans who've been starved of major success, it's a sad day for them.
:21:00. > :21:05.It's a difficult day. It's a frustrating day. From a fans' point
:21:06. > :21:13.of view, you can understand why some of them are leaving early. Others
:21:14. > :21:22.will stay and try and just give their team all the backing they can.
:21:23. > :21:32.It's all over! The cup goes to Glenavon. Gary Hamilton's second cup
:21:33. > :21:40.success in three years for him. Unbelievable. Seventh time to win
:21:41. > :21:46.the trophy, throughs the ?20,000 in prize money which helps. The success
:21:47. > :21:51.two years ago, they beat Ballymena United. Third in the league again.
:21:52. > :21:59.Into Europe again. The financial bonanza of that sum, ?200,000. And
:22:00. > :22:07.Hamilton's done it again. David, he's certainly making his mark here
:22:08. > :22:12.and the fans love him. There's a few tears for Tuffey as well. That's
:22:13. > :22:20.nice. So proud of him. He put so much of his game down to the man
:22:21. > :22:29.that's with him there. What a contribution. Kelly was absolutely
:22:30. > :22:38.Nosh mouse in that defence -- ginormous. We can go pitch side.
:22:39. > :22:43.Thomas, it's all yours. To Glenavon players singing in the
:22:44. > :22:47.rain, congratulations. You are the man-of-the-match. What was the key
:22:48. > :22:55.to the victory? We were told to go out today and press as hard on the
:22:56. > :22:58.pitch. The first 15 minutes we started off sloppy but after the
:22:59. > :23:03.first 15, we then controlled the game. I don't think it was a great
:23:04. > :23:07.game but I think we controlled the game. I don't think they had many
:23:08. > :23:11.chances. We managed to take ours. That was the key today.
:23:12. > :23:15.One just before half time, one just after half time. How important were
:23:16. > :23:19.the timings of the goals? Yes, no better time to score. Two great
:23:20. > :23:25.times to score goals obviously, but it's just a great day obviously to
:23:26. > :23:32.win this, on our home patch, makes it beer. -- better. You seem to have
:23:33. > :23:35.a great spirit within the squad, has the manager helped create that? Of
:23:36. > :23:39.course, he's great with the lads. You have to give the lads credit,
:23:40. > :23:43.they are a great bunch of lads to play with. It's a pleasure to play
:23:44. > :23:50.with him. You are about to get a medal and a trophy, but here is your
:23:51. > :23:54.man-of-the-match trophy as well. We can make our way over to the rest of
:23:55. > :24:00.the Glenavon players over here and try and get a word with some more of
:24:01. > :24:08.them. Kevin getting his land shake and most of them are over here.
:24:09. > :24:13.Ciaran Martyn is the first we have come across here. You deserved that?
:24:14. > :24:21.Over the 90 minutes, we fully deserved that. Initially controlled
:24:22. > :24:25.the first 15-20 minutes, looked nervous. It wasn't a spectacle, it
:24:26. > :24:29.was a grind really. We got the goal before half time and it set us up.
:24:30. > :24:36.We scored early in the second half and hung on from there. People might
:24:37. > :24:41.forget it now, your keeper who's been immense all season, a very
:24:42. > :24:47.important save made by him? He's been immense for us, as you say, and
:24:48. > :24:53.you don't expect it from him. At times we can be sloppy and rerely on
:24:54. > :24:57.him and he's bailed us out at times. Inspirational for us. Thank you very
:24:58. > :25:03.much. Back with more reaction ahead of the presentation.
:25:04. > :25:07.Thank you very much indeed. There's a young man who was in tears. He
:25:08. > :25:11.said this would be right up there with the highlights of his career
:25:12. > :25:17.and he's played for Northern Ireland, he's played in Scotland,
:25:18. > :25:22.full-time football, putting on his Mark Farren T-shirt and that must be
:25:23. > :25:30.his young son. That is CT, Carter Tuffey. What a name! They are ready
:25:31. > :25:36.to enjoy it. Oh, there's Carter, what a boy he is. That's a girl!
:25:37. > :25:43.That's not his son, that's actually his little niece. You know the whole
:25:44. > :25:49.family! Full-time score in this Tennents Irish Cup Final, they'll be
:25:50. > :26:00.celebrating in Lurgan, Glenavon 2 already 0 Linfield. -- Glenavon 2-0
:26:01. > :26:07.Linfield. They'll not drop the silverware. The day has belonged to
:26:08. > :26:15.the Mid Ulster Blues, it's all about Glenavon unquestionably the better
:26:16. > :26:21.team's won. Let's go pitch side for more reaction from Thomas. Fantastic
:26:22. > :26:25.scenes here. Gary Hamilton, you made a cameo appearance at the end but
:26:26. > :26:31.most of the work was done in the dressing room. How proud are you?
:26:32. > :26:39.They all did excellent, 1-11. They were brilliant. They were absolutely
:26:40. > :26:43.outstanding. Proud as punch. All the back room staff, thank you for all
:26:44. > :26:46.their help, three, four, four-and-a-half years I've been
:26:47. > :26:51.here, thanks to all the directors and the fans, they are all back in
:26:52. > :26:54.numbers again. Great to see. It's lovely for us, good for the players
:26:55. > :27:00.and they have been like an extra man foreus all the way through the
:27:01. > :27:06.tournament. Especially Mark Farren, that was for Mark, his wife was here
:27:07. > :27:12.today and it's great, it was for him and his boys and his wife. Two Irish
:27:13. > :27:15.cups now, super. The supporters, the players are
:27:16. > :27:21.loving these scenes, they played a huge role as well today? They have
:27:22. > :27:24.been brilliant. Like a 12th man. Last year, under Europe, last year
:27:25. > :27:30.in the Irish cup win, they have been excellent every single year. It's
:27:31. > :27:33.great to have them back in numbers supporting the boys the way they
:27:34. > :27:37.are, it's a great feeling. Sometimes you can't appreciate the fans
:27:38. > :27:45.enough, it's been superb. You've got a lovely mix of experience and youth
:27:46. > :27:49.within the squad. The likes of Kilmartin, Martyn alongside
:27:50. > :27:54.Marshall, Cooper, players like that, how important is it? So important to
:27:55. > :27:59.have Kilmartin, Kelly, all those, it's so important to have them and
:28:00. > :28:03.I'm so delighted for that man there. Last year he got let go by Linfield,
:28:04. > :28:09.to come back against the team that let him go and perform the way he's
:28:10. > :28:18.done to get a clean sheet, sums him up, brilliant. We heard your
:28:19. > :28:23.man-of-the-match centre half for the reserves, played a couple today is.
:28:24. > :28:29.That the last cameo? Hopefully not. Well, again I wouldn't mind if we
:28:30. > :28:35.can get not enough people I would have to play but hopefully it's not
:28:36. > :28:46.the last time. I'll come on as sub next year if need be. We'll let you
:28:47. > :28:52.enjoy the rest of the presentation. Apologies for the language, it's an
:28:53. > :28:57.emotionally charged interview. We'll hopefully speak to the keeper who
:28:58. > :29:01.played such a pivotal role today. The players are very conscious of
:29:02. > :29:06.the facts that the supporters have play add key role. Also playing a
:29:07. > :29:09.key role today for the final time, the one, the only, Mr Jackie
:29:10. > :29:19.Fullerton. Thank you very much indeed. That
:29:20. > :29:27.expression says it all. You can understand their disappointment.
:29:28. > :29:32.Lovely shot there. A little bit of bobo required. As a grandad I know
:29:33. > :29:38.about these things. David will have to go up and receive a losers'
:29:39. > :29:45.medal. He'll do it with dignity. The It's not really what David Healy
:29:46. > :29:48.would want. But Linfield, they are in Europe, they were second in the
:29:49. > :29:49.table, they can make a serious challenge next season for the
:29:50. > :30:10.league. Smith he will remember this day.
:30:11. > :30:19.Glenallen! Blaenavon, what a cheer and what a reception they are
:30:20. > :30:24.getting -- Glenavon. The T-shirts are in memory of Mark Farren who
:30:25. > :30:33.passed away, well remembered today. His wife, led Glenavon out. Lovely
:30:34. > :30:40.touch, added to the day, even better that they won it. They are paying
:30:41. > :30:46.tribute to both sets of supporters, in the 10th minute they turned
:30:47. > :30:55.together in that fabulous applause and look at that now, every single
:30:56. > :31:15.Glenavon player, the shirt on. He is enjoying it. I think that was Kris
:31:16. > :31:18.Lindsay. They go through it. I have lost my note with the name of the
:31:19. > :31:30.man from tenants on it. My apologies to him. Brian Beattie is that man.
:31:31. > :31:36.And it is so good, in their first year of a five-year agreement and a
:31:37. > :31:42.much-needed sponsor for the Irish Cup. There is the contrasting mood.
:31:43. > :31:46.That is the hardest thing to do as a player and as a team, when you are
:31:47. > :31:52.defeated, you have to stand there with grace and applaud obviously the
:31:53. > :31:59.victors, were really worry you want to be is in out of the road. Credit
:32:00. > :32:06.to the Linfield players, credit to those supporters of Linfield who
:32:07. > :32:16.have stayed behind to support their team and acknowledge their reference
:32:17. > :32:22.and also those of Glenavon. Kris Lindsay there. Some will be
:32:23. > :32:39.surprised he was left out today. Here we are. Ciaran Martyn shares
:32:40. > :32:44.the joy. Glenavon FC! Absolute joy on those faces. And the fans in the
:32:45. > :32:51.South stands, what were they now are, getting the cap, a former
:32:52. > :32:58.Rattery in the background there. He is from the mid-Ulster area. Great
:32:59. > :33:05.celebrations, there are 106 final, but that Windsor Park, the first
:33:06. > :33:11.final at the new Windsor Park. As Gary said, these players are now
:33:12. > :33:16.legends at the club, two years, two times in three years they have won
:33:17. > :33:24.the cup. Marshall, pattern, Martin, the only survivors from three years
:33:25. > :33:29.ago, how quickly the ball changes. Unbelievable, credit to Gary and his
:33:30. > :33:32.management team in terms of their identification of players, their
:33:33. > :33:36.recruitment of players and their consistency and what you have also
:33:37. > :33:39.got to say is well done, not only to the victors but how they have
:33:40. > :33:46.performed in the league. It has been quite impressive.
:33:47. > :33:54.There will be a hot town in the old town tonight of Lurgan. There we
:33:55. > :34:03.are. The celebrations will continue long into the night. Glenavon are
:34:04. > :34:13.the champions, the Irish Cup winners 2016, they have beaten Linfield by
:34:14. > :34:19.2-0. Thank you very much to debt -- David, Jeffrey and Jackie Fullerton.
:34:20. > :34:23.Glenavon are the champ -- champions. Gary Hamilton has written himself a
:34:24. > :34:28.little footnote in history, Gary Hamilton becomes the first manager
:34:29. > :34:33.of Glenavon to win the cup twice and he has done it twice in three years.
:34:34. > :34:41.Stephen Baxter and Chris Morgan both with me. The better side won. I do
:34:42. > :34:44.not think there is any doubt. Linfield had the 15 minutes at the
:34:45. > :34:47.start of the game where they were the better side, a couple of
:34:48. > :34:53.chances, could not take them, from that point on, Glenavon dominated,
:34:54. > :34:58.scored the goals, scored them at good times, the second one was
:34:59. > :35:01.crucial so early in the second half, Linfield never recovered and
:35:02. > :35:12.Glenavon had chances to extend that lead. That was at different moments
:35:13. > :35:16.in the game. You fancied the blues. Bar that first 15 near it -- 50
:35:17. > :35:21.minute period of dominance, it did not happen. It started off like a
:35:22. > :35:25.house on fire, they had three or four big chances but once Glenavon
:35:26. > :35:30.got up the pitch, having weathered the storm, they grew in dominance in
:35:31. > :35:35.the game, they ended up bossing the game and the second half performance
:35:36. > :35:39.was clinical. I said at half-time, Linfield had no penetration at the
:35:40. > :35:43.top end of the park, not committing bodies forward and had no goal
:35:44. > :35:48.threat. Glenavon really ran away with it, they were miles the better
:35:49. > :35:54.team. Owen Bradley, conscious that Ciaran Martyn described it as a
:35:55. > :35:58.grind rather than spectacle, but the first Cup Final in this new national
:35:59. > :36:02.stadium, it was more than a grind, it was a spectacle. I enjoyed
:36:03. > :36:07.beginning. I thought that everyone tried to get the ball down and pass
:36:08. > :36:12.it and use the wide areas well, sometimes when you're playing, you
:36:13. > :36:19.are concentrating, not engaging a lot of ball into the box. He is a
:36:20. > :36:24.defensive midfielder. Glenavon today, they worked the ball in good
:36:25. > :36:27.areas, when you have a player like Kevin Braniff, who does something
:36:28. > :36:31.special every time you get the ball, he will be disappointed he did not
:36:32. > :36:38.score the goal, but he was brilliant. Let us go pitch side.
:36:39. > :36:44.Thomas King, it is all yours. What a year it has been, what were you
:36:45. > :36:51.doing last year? This time last year, I had just lost at
:36:52. > :36:55.Warrenpoint. It is such a difference. How special was today?
:36:56. > :37:00.It was really special, the whole build-up, I was itching to get out
:37:01. > :37:03.on the pitch and luckily enough I ended up scoring. What a
:37:04. > :37:11.contribution, tell us about your goal? I think I scoffed at. In years
:37:12. > :37:17.to come, you will be telling that. You had them, they all go N. It is
:37:18. > :37:22.all the thing, one goal. We will let you get back into the celebrations.
:37:23. > :37:25.What a year for you as well, how much have you enjoyed the
:37:26. > :37:31.experience? It has been unbelievable. What this club has
:37:32. > :37:39.given to me, it is sensational. To go from where I was last year, to
:37:40. > :37:46.get an opportunity, play week in week out, qualify for Europe, this
:37:47. > :37:50.is enough. Was it a case of confidence for you? The fate they
:37:51. > :37:55.showed a new? Yes. When you have a manager that back shoe to the
:37:56. > :37:59.health, no matter what you do, he stands by you, that is phenomenal.
:38:00. > :38:05.He installed that in me and words fail me, it has been incredible.
:38:06. > :38:14.Enjoy today, you deserve it. Alan Bradley, come here, you have done it
:38:15. > :38:21.again? First-ever final, never thought I would play here in the
:38:22. > :38:28.errors Cup Final. Delighted. Very proud -- Irish Cup final. Great for
:38:29. > :38:36.the club, look at that, what can you say. What is Gary like in the
:38:37. > :38:44.dressing room? Last year things did not go right, Gary and I are best
:38:45. > :38:50.friends. So credit to him, look at the job he has done. When he came to
:38:51. > :38:56.the club, we were bottom, now we are one of the top clubs. Champions two
:38:57. > :39:03.years out of three. What can we say? Enjoy yourself. I think everyone
:39:04. > :39:08.here is enjoying the party. Thank you, of course Eoin Bradley, he is
:39:09. > :39:15.renowned for his physicality, but a subtle dig that sent them on their
:39:16. > :39:20.way. Joyous scenes and bridles, I do not know if that is Lurgan
:39:21. > :39:25.champagne, but it is that Champagne moment. They have won the Irish Cup
:39:26. > :39:31.for only the fourth time in their history and what a performance,
:39:32. > :39:36.their leaders are at. 89 macro is superstitious, they all met in a
:39:37. > :39:40.Belfast restaurant for breakfast, but Jonathan Tuffey brought rice and
:39:41. > :39:46.beans, every match date since he was 16. He was outstanding. He made
:39:47. > :39:52.saves at the right times when Linfield have the ascendancy, it was
:39:53. > :39:56.the save he made with his foot against Stephen Lowry. In games like
:39:57. > :40:00.this, the first goal can be so important, if Linfield get it, we
:40:01. > :40:04.could have been talking about a different result, that save gave
:40:05. > :40:09.Glenavon the belief, Linfield had a few chances, after that, I think a
:40:10. > :40:16.lot of what he did was routine. What he does, he creates confidence in
:40:17. > :40:20.his back four. They know that he has had a great season. I have not been
:40:21. > :40:23.a defender but I know that as a team if you have a goalkeeper you can
:40:24. > :40:27.rely on who makes saves it creates confidence in the team and he has
:40:28. > :40:33.had a great day and you heard him talk about his season, it is pleased
:40:34. > :40:36.to see him recover. There is Gary Hamilton with his grandfather, he
:40:37. > :40:42.was not sure if he would make it this afternoon, he has made it and
:40:43. > :40:45.he has witnessed this, Gary Hamilton, his grandson has guided
:40:46. > :40:50.Glenavon to a second Irish Cup in three years and more broadly, no
:40:51. > :40:53.other manager in the history of the Lurgan Blues has done that before.
:40:54. > :40:58.Well done to Gary Hamilton, handshakes all round and I suspect
:40:59. > :41:03.there will be patting on the back and applause for many many days to
:41:04. > :41:07.come. There is another man who has done his bit, let me bring in
:41:08. > :41:13.Stephen Baxter, I guess you can say that you were beaten by the cup
:41:14. > :41:16.finalist, they beat you 4-3 in a classic, it was a formidable
:41:17. > :41:21.performance this afternoon. They are thoroughly deserving of this. No
:41:22. > :41:28.doubt, Glenavon have pushed us this year. They gave us hardest games. We
:41:29. > :41:32.got a couple of wins in the league against them and they won the cup
:41:33. > :41:36.game here for - three and that was a fantastic game of football to be
:41:37. > :41:44.involved in. Both teams played well. You take your hat to them, Gary made
:41:45. > :41:49.a couple of big decisions, playing Mark Patton at left back. He moved
:41:50. > :41:55.Marshall to write back and he had a superb game. Jonathan Tuffey led
:41:56. > :41:59.from the back, gave the instructions and bass the back four and they
:42:00. > :42:03.looked assured. They did not take pressure from Linfield, there was no
:42:04. > :42:07.press in the game from Linfield and that is down to players who know
:42:08. > :42:11.what they are about. I want both of you to look at the broader picture,
:42:12. > :42:15.a couple of penalty calls on the second half, talk us through these,
:42:16. > :42:25.you feel the referee got these spot on. Is absolutely spot on. That goal
:42:26. > :42:28.had a hand of Ciaran Martyn -- ball. He is asking for it, Aaron Burns,
:42:29. > :42:33.but I would have been surprised to see the referee gave a penalty. He
:42:34. > :42:39.is so close and his arms are tucked down by his side, no penalty. Up
:42:40. > :42:47.comes the Joel Cooper incident and no penalty, you think that was ball
:42:48. > :42:56.to hand rather than hand to ball. His arm has not gone out towards it.
:42:57. > :43:01.The Cobra incident, -- Joel Cooper. The referee is in a good position, I
:43:02. > :43:06.think he was going to ground before the challenge even came. He was
:43:07. > :43:11.looking for a penalty, he probably should have played in Kevin Braniff.
:43:12. > :43:15.He was on the right-hand side. You have to give him credit, perfectly
:43:16. > :43:22.positioned. We said that at the start, the referee got all the big
:43:23. > :43:27.decisions right. The goals, Stephen talk us through these, in reverse
:43:28. > :43:33.order, the first of the goals in the second half first. Well taken and
:43:34. > :43:39.conclusive. Great hold-up play. Smashing delivery into the box. My
:43:40. > :43:45.severed from Bradley. I was pleased for him, he took his time, did not
:43:46. > :43:50.panic, took one touch, flicked it up. Bradley took the overhead kick,
:43:51. > :43:58.it breaks for him. Defensively, any queries. Sometimes the ball comes
:43:59. > :44:03.into the box and you need to try and mark-up and credit to the opposing
:44:04. > :44:10.team who get that goal away. It was a really nice touch from Hall. Here
:44:11. > :44:16.is the gold from the first half. Watch this ball, it is magnificent.
:44:17. > :44:22.Kevin Braniff was the man, he found the space, we see it in live play,
:44:23. > :44:26.he came from 40 or 50 yards behind to put himself into the space to
:44:27. > :44:29.score the goal and you have to ask where was the Linfield marking?
:44:30. > :44:35.Intuitive understanding between the two from them. That is the
:44:36. > :44:40.combination play you're working on all year, that is what makes you a
:44:41. > :44:45.standout team and Glenavon have that in abundance. They say we come to
:44:46. > :44:49.play, we come to attack and they took all the chances, put the
:44:50. > :44:52.pressure on, once they weathered the first 15 minute storm, they kept
:44:53. > :44:58.going after the game and they ran away with it in the end. We made a
:44:59. > :45:03.lot about Jonathan Tuffey, as we look on at these celebration
:45:04. > :45:09.pictures, the save is crucial. It is a magnificent reflex. That is nearly
:45:10. > :45:14.in the net, his hands are up but he gets the foot out. Is this one even
:45:15. > :45:18.better? Even better. He is watching the play, watching the ball all the
:45:19. > :45:24.time, in position quickly, you have to know you are about, experience
:45:25. > :45:30.taking over. He is barking out the orders, he was class today. It was
:45:31. > :45:35.anything but a gimmick. I would say that he would fancy he would say
:45:36. > :45:39.that most times. He was starting to move in the other direction and got
:45:40. > :45:44.back and saved it. I made the point earlier, it is the confidence it
:45:45. > :45:47.creates in others, defensively you know you have got a goalkeeper that
:45:48. > :45:52.the other team have to do a lot to get past. The big performance from
:45:53. > :45:55.him today. You mentioned the big performance, he has joined us, the
:45:56. > :46:00.man with a big boys, Jackie Fullerton. I know you will be
:46:01. > :46:07.nervous, but he is only here for the next ten minutes. I guess we will do
:46:08. > :46:12.this, congratulations. Did you enjoy it? I was quite relaxed and happy.
:46:13. > :46:17.Can I do at a game in next year? Maybe I have been premature. It is
:46:18. > :46:23.time to bring down the curtain. You're interviewed by Thomas, he
:46:24. > :46:29.tried to retire Gary Hamilton. It has come full circle, this man
:46:30. > :46:36.played in the first one you did. It is amazing that the first commentary
:46:37. > :46:43.I did for the BBC was in 1992 at the Oval, you will remember that, you
:46:44. > :46:52.are playing Number 10. Sadly, you lost it and that day Glenavon won
:46:53. > :46:57.2-1, Gerry McMahon and got one. It was his last game before he went to
:46:58. > :47:02.Spurs. He played for Northern Ireland as well. Here we are, when I
:47:03. > :47:09.decide to retire it is Linfield against Glenavon and Glenavon win it
:47:10. > :47:14.again by 2-0. A tremendous performance and you have to say,
:47:15. > :47:21.Glenavon deserved it, I do not know what the boys were saying. That is
:47:22. > :47:26.the way we saw it. Kevin Braniff, Majestic finish. It was not an easy
:47:27. > :47:35.ball. As we look at the celebration pictures,... Great ball from
:47:36. > :47:42.Bradley, Brazilian like outside of the foot and it was not an easy ball
:47:43. > :47:46.to finish. It was on the half volley and then to get that second goal,
:47:47. > :47:51.two and a half or three minutes into the second half. A few goals to look
:47:52. > :48:01.at, can you say something nice about this guy? Jackie and I go back a
:48:02. > :48:05.long way, he is a Crusaders man. Jackie is the ultimate professional,
:48:06. > :48:09.everything he has done, all through the years, things I have done with
:48:10. > :48:13.him, he makes it easy and he is a pleasure to be around and the
:48:14. > :48:19.company is great, he did a lot of dinners for us and a personal dinner
:48:20. > :48:23.for me and I can only thank him. I think your magnificent. Chris? First
:48:24. > :48:30.time I met Jackie was a long time ago on a trip to the US and he has
:48:31. > :48:34.been very generous sense... His mobile is going off. Since I have
:48:35. > :48:43.made the transition. If that is Windsor parlour. It is my agent!
:48:44. > :48:49.Since then I have made the transition from player to occasional
:48:50. > :48:53.pundit for BBC and you have been very generous in your advice and
:48:54. > :48:58.help towards me and I think we will all miss you, I hope you're still
:48:59. > :49:05.around Paris league football. Thank you. I will not miss him all! I
:49:06. > :49:09.thought I would never see the day. Many highlights down through your
:49:10. > :49:14.Cup Final commentaries, we will take a look at a few of them. A few of
:49:15. > :49:20.your standout moments, here is the first one. Glentoran player down
:49:21. > :49:28.endured, but play continues. Glen Little runs a part of the defence.
:49:29. > :49:35.Still going. A goal! Sensational goal from Glen Little it is 1-0 to
:49:36. > :49:42.Glentoran. And they go absolutely wild in the North stand. Talk us
:49:43. > :49:51.through that one in ten seconds. That was 1996I do believe. Glen
:49:52. > :49:56.Little, not a great game, but this finish let the matchup and it won
:49:57. > :50:00.the cup for Glentoran. Glen Little, being bushmen who eventually played
:50:01. > :50:06.in English football. I have to goals I remember from 29 cup finals, that
:50:07. > :50:12.was one of them and the other one was scored by this man. Cute on
:50:13. > :50:19.perfectly. This might be a better one. Let us Jack. He did well.
:50:20. > :50:31.Morgan. A real chance. He has taken it. It is 1-1. Not a bad goal, Jack.
:50:32. > :50:36.Superb finish. I was saying that Linfield were 1-0 down, and early
:50:37. > :50:42.strike from Kyle Neill after about three minutes. What a great
:50:43. > :50:50.professional he was, Tony Gorman. How about that for a Finnish? Get in
:50:51. > :50:57.there, Morgan! Top drawer. Right off the sweet spot. Great strike, great
:50:58. > :51:02.finish. Chris, we know what it was like to score, what was it like to
:51:03. > :51:07.hear him commentate on it? In moments like that, they do not, long
:51:08. > :51:12.often, but it is always nice to hear the commentary and how Jackie
:51:13. > :51:16.described it. It was one of those ones in front of me and I just put
:51:17. > :51:20.my head down and smashed it and luckily I went into the net. His
:51:21. > :51:31.favourite goal of all time, here it is. Hamilton. There is a run from
:51:32. > :51:42.McCann and he will get there. He arrives. 1-0! Great finish from the
:51:43. > :51:51.big Scot. They are absolutely delirious. Glentoran are one up and
:51:52. > :51:58.what a goal it was. That is your most enjoyable, wide? Because I set
:51:59. > :52:05.it up. It was a great run from Tim McCann. You have told people that he
:52:06. > :52:12.is there, if he can get it across, he will finish it. It came true.
:52:13. > :52:16.What a finish. The lovely thing for him was that he had only been on the
:52:17. > :52:21.pitch as a substitute for six minutes and then that cross. Tim
:52:22. > :52:28.McCann, great move down the right. Great run, great cross and he buried
:52:29. > :52:32.it. What you made of the occasion, the first Irish Cup final to be
:52:33. > :52:35.played in this new resplendent stadium? I thought it was great
:52:36. > :52:41.right from the off. When I came onto the pitch earlier to see what it was
:52:42. > :52:44.like, with David Jeffrey, Michael commentator, we were talking to
:52:45. > :52:49.people like David Healy, but then the noise when we came out to near
:52:50. > :52:57.the commentary time, and the noise and the atmosphere... It is a lovely
:52:58. > :53:01.moment and one I will allow you to commentate, the Glenavon guys hold
:53:02. > :53:10.up a banner for Mark Farren. It was lovely, his widow was here, she led
:53:11. > :53:17.out the side. What a lovely thought. A lovely gesture by Ruxton and Gary
:53:18. > :53:21.Hamilton to do this for Mark. The applause was well after ten minutes
:53:22. > :53:27.because that was the number of Jersey, that was nice as well --
:53:28. > :53:31.Glenavon. That is the humane side of football that is often not recorded
:53:32. > :53:38.by the press and the media. Football does have a hard. There is his wife.
:53:39. > :53:46.She came on the coach, she was made to feel part of it and that is only
:53:47. > :53:50.right. Two years ago, led out Glenavon. He had been a great
:53:51. > :53:56.player, but above all, I did not know him that well, he was a great
:53:57. > :54:00.fellow, record goal-scorer, took over from Young Coyle at Derry City
:54:01. > :54:08.where he was a great player for them. There is Hamilton, stealing
:54:09. > :54:14.the manner. He stole the show. The names go on and on. You're making
:54:15. > :54:17.the point to David Jeffrey that the old bookmakers had Linfield as
:54:18. > :54:21.favourites. I could not believe it, I can believe that they were the
:54:22. > :54:26.favourites because there was a lot of moment and they were in good
:54:27. > :54:31.form, but they were 5-6 answer on but Glenavon were available at 3-1.
:54:32. > :54:38.There would be a lot of neutrals on that. I am not a gambler, but I
:54:39. > :54:45.think they would sack the people who put the odds together. That was a
:54:46. > :54:48.big prize. I can only assume it is down to Linfield being better
:54:49. > :54:53.supported and maybe they were looking at where most of the money
:54:54. > :54:57.would go to. I did say that I fancied Glenavon from the start.
:54:58. > :55:04.Today's game was a hard one to call but at 3-1, that was generous. David
:55:05. > :55:11.said, I know nothing about odds, but this game has to be even is!
:55:12. > :55:18.Glenavon, by the first 15 minutes, they kind of Boston. I thought, we
:55:19. > :55:23.must think about the losers and how David Healy will be feeling.
:55:24. > :55:28.Linfield desperate for a major trophy, for years tried, that is a
:55:29. > :55:33.long time for Linfield and it did not work out for them and Glenavon
:55:34. > :55:37.came here, I saw them in the semifinal, they came from a high and
:55:38. > :55:41.three times against this man's side who I thought could have done a
:55:42. > :55:47.league and cup double and Glenavon nature it did not happen. Linda will
:55:48. > :55:54.be getting jealous. A pertinent point about David Healy and let us
:55:55. > :56:01.look at the other way, the Blues without a league or a cup in four
:56:02. > :56:06.years, are we nearing crisis time, has he turned a corner, how
:56:07. > :56:11.important to all three of you that he brings fresh blood in in the
:56:12. > :56:15.summer period? I think it came in at a time, wanting to get off to a good
:56:16. > :56:21.start and David comes in, he has to feel his way into the club, get the
:56:22. > :56:25.players, have a good look at the players, what is available. He made
:56:26. > :56:28.a change early and that worked. They were nature meant a strong,
:56:29. > :56:33.tremendous run and I do not think they are far away. They pushed us
:56:34. > :56:37.really close, we probably edged it on the head-to-head games and that
:56:38. > :56:41.helped us push on. David knows what he leaves, he has a football guy, he
:56:42. > :56:46.has been everywhere, he is trawling the young players, he will be
:56:47. > :56:50.looking into the market down South, who brought in Ross Gaynor, a big
:56:51. > :56:55.success, he will have contacts, knows what he needs, Linfield are
:56:56. > :56:59.expected to win major championships and major trophies. They will want
:57:00. > :57:05.to do that as quickly as possible. Let us hope it happens. Let us pop
:57:06. > :57:12.down to Thomas who has a couple of guys who I think he might have a
:57:13. > :57:17.word or two to. They know Jackie Fullerton well. Gary Hamilton, what
:57:18. > :57:20.Jackie Norman stands out for you? I would like to buy Ken for one famous
:57:21. > :57:24.strip away with Northern Ireland when I think that was a drink ban on
:57:25. > :57:29.the plane on the way over and Jackie was sitting beside me and he got me
:57:30. > :57:32.a few fresh oranges but at the time he was slipping Volga into them. I
:57:33. > :57:37.would like to thank you for that and pines for everything you have done
:57:38. > :57:41.for me. He is a friend to the players and to the managers. He
:57:42. > :57:50.loves the local game. Within being an ex-player... Did he actually play
:57:51. > :57:53.football? So he says! He will be missed, he is a smashing character.
:57:54. > :57:57.He did well with all the players come before we began touring in the
:57:58. > :58:02.quarterfinal, he was in our dressing room and would not leave. I heard
:58:03. > :58:08.one of the BBC reporters, said Jackie is well hung, and one of them
:58:09. > :58:15.said, he should be. It is live, I will apologise for that. You give
:58:16. > :58:19.away your medal, tell us why. I had the worst night of my life trying to
:58:20. > :58:25.get to sleep, there had to be one person left-eyed and after talking
:58:26. > :58:29.to staff, we decided on Fabio, I was taking his place. I could not think
:58:30. > :58:35.about the game until after I spoke to him. He did not take it well, we
:58:36. > :58:39.did not expect and two. I thought it was a nice gesture, the very least I
:58:40. > :58:42.could do after leaving him out of the squad after such a good
:58:43. > :58:45.performance in the semifinal, it has really hurt me, that is the hard
:58:46. > :58:52.part of being a manager, especially when you play, it is difficult. He
:58:53. > :58:55.was OK after the game I understand it. Hopefully that will make up and
:58:56. > :59:00.he still has an Irish Cup medal. Thank you. On a personal level,
:59:01. > :59:05.Jackie has been helpful to be from the moment I walked into the BBC, he
:59:06. > :59:09.was that it is not television, it is show business and he has been so
:59:10. > :59:12.helpful from a commentary perspective, if I had questions, he
:59:13. > :59:15.was the first person I could speak to and to give you an idea of the
:59:16. > :59:19.scale of him and some of the friendships he has made, years ago I
:59:20. > :59:23.made a documentary in Manchester with Jonny Evans and the only reason
:59:24. > :59:30.that happened was because Jackie spoke to Alex Ferguson. I spoke to
:59:31. > :59:34.him in the BBC and that shows you, that is the scale of him, that is
:59:35. > :59:38.the way he is thought of, not just within the local game but in the
:59:39. > :59:41.world game, he can pick up the phone to the most successful manager,
:59:42. > :59:45.thank you for all your help, it has been a privilege and we continue to
:59:46. > :59:53.learn from you every day and there will only be one Jackie Fullerton.
:59:54. > :00:00.High praise indeed. I couldn't argue with that.
:00:01. > :00:05.You got the broad brush stroke there. Jack, I guess you are feeling
:00:06. > :00:10.a bit embarrassed. Is there a wee trickle of a tear in the eye there?
:00:11. > :00:14.No, I'm not embarrassed, they are speaking the truth! No, it's very
:00:15. > :00:18.humbling. The FA announced I was doing my last final before the game
:00:19. > :00:23.and there's a lot of people gave me a standing ovation. It's lovely and
:00:24. > :00:27.obviously it's lovely for your ego but also humbling as well. It's
:00:28. > :00:31.nice. Some people probably over the years couldn't stand the sight or
:00:32. > :00:35.sound of me, but I think I've captured the hearts of maybe a
:00:36. > :00:38.number of them over the years and that was a lovely reception today
:00:39. > :00:42.and I'll remember that. The fact my son was on at half time as well
:00:43. > :00:45.which I didn't know about, Darren, who writes for the Daily Mirror, I
:00:46. > :00:52.thought that was a present you were going to give me. That was the phone
:00:53. > :00:57.bleeping there, could someone ask Jackie please not to sings. We know
:00:58. > :01:02.you are not going to sing. I was on that flight when you furnished Gary
:01:03. > :01:06.Hamilton with the orange juice. We won't say who the manager was, but
:01:07. > :01:12.what we will say is, take a look at this. Jackie Fullerton's greatest
:01:13. > :01:16.hits. This is Jackie at his beloved
:01:17. > :01:20.Ballymena before the hip replacement. He's not been retired
:01:21. > :01:25.because of that, but that was him with a bit of help from his friends
:01:26. > :01:32.making it into the commentary box. You put one block out of position. I
:01:33. > :01:37.had the hip operation three months ago today really, well tomorrow.
:01:38. > :01:42.It's a great job, it really is. I could jump that fence now. Couldn't
:01:43. > :01:45.do anything with your tongue. No. Jackie's trip through the years -
:01:46. > :02:07.take a look! Oh... Not quite sure what was
:02:08. > :02:22.happening there. On the road with Bernie Fisher.
:02:23. > :02:28.Grey round hacing... Grey round. ... People say it's play acting. It's
:02:29. > :02:30.show birz. Who was that young man? That was you.
:02:31. > :02:40.You are still doing what you love? Yes. I came in in 1973 straight from
:02:41. > :02:45.winning the first title at Crusaders as a player and I went straight from
:02:46. > :02:50.football pitch to a TV studio and if you'd said I'd still be doing it 43
:02:51. > :02:56.years later, I may have laughed at you. But I've enjoyed it, Mark.
:02:57. > :03:00.There's been downs, you know, taken off Newsnight and losing programmes,
:03:01. > :03:04.but you get programmes back so it's a roller coaster and you learn to
:03:05. > :03:09.ride with the punches. It's part of the business. You were just giving
:03:10. > :03:15.someone else a chance! I'm honest, I was dumped.
:03:16. > :03:20.Sorry. I want to bring things full circle to today and I want you to
:03:21. > :03:22.talk us through the two goals because, I guess, as they are
:03:23. > :03:26.coming, you are thinking to yourself, this could be my moment.
:03:27. > :03:30.This is the first of them? This is good from Glenavon. Here's Bradley.
:03:31. > :03:34.He gets the cross in, what a good cross it is and what a finish that
:03:35. > :03:39.could be from Braniff. He's got four in the semi-final and he's now got
:03:40. > :03:46.the first goal in this final and how important that could be. And then
:03:47. > :03:51.the second one, Braniff, as we see, brilliant again. This was game over
:03:52. > :04:01.Jackie? It was. Yes. And there's the ball in. Through the legs of Matthew
:04:02. > :04:06.so you've got to feel sorry for the young defender in many ways. 2-0
:04:07. > :04:10.after the break. We have been working exceedingly hard, Thomas in
:04:11. > :04:13.particular, he's now pitch side with arguably Northern Ireland's most
:04:14. > :04:18.iconic footballer, possibly George Best best ahead of him, but in many
:04:19. > :04:24.people's opinion, David Healy is still the man? An important day for
:04:25. > :04:28.him? Yes, it was. He wanted to say a few words about Jackie Fullerton.
:04:29. > :04:32.First of all, hugely disappointing to lose the Cup Final but Jackie's
:04:33. > :04:36.been commentating on so many of your magical moments as a player. What
:04:37. > :04:42.can you say as him as a commentator and also a close friend? As you say,
:04:43. > :04:46.I would like to thank Jackie for his kind words throughout my career as a
:04:47. > :04:51.player. Unfortunately, I would have loved to give him a little send-off
:04:52. > :04:57.by us winning the trophy here. But he's a good friend, a close friend,
:04:58. > :05:01.an associate who I've built a trusting relationship with over the
:05:02. > :05:06.years. When he does put the mic down, I wish him the best. He's been
:05:07. > :05:10.synonymous in your career, was it a friendship that struck up instantly?
:05:11. > :05:15.Over time. You have to build up a relationship with players, but with
:05:16. > :05:19.Jackie, for the length of time I've never him, he's been a good friend,
:05:20. > :05:24.I wish him well. Your thoughts on the game finally? Disappointed for
:05:25. > :05:27.the fans today. Sometimes when you lose your game, I'm disappointed
:05:28. > :05:31.with the players' performance as everything else, disappointed for
:05:32. > :05:34.the fans today as they turned out in huge numbers and late on in the
:05:35. > :05:39.second half, I don't think we gave it the fight that I was hoping for
:05:40. > :05:42.today. Not hoping, but expecting. We didn't have that. Thank you very
:05:43. > :05:49.much. Easy to come out and speak to the press when you win but it's not
:05:50. > :05:54.your day, so thank you very much. Mark, when you think of Jackie
:05:55. > :06:00.Fullerton, you think of him saying "Healy! ". He wants to be you,
:06:01. > :06:05.Jackie. It sure happened for him in his career, but not today? I thank
:06:06. > :06:08.him for saying those nice words. The boys who've played in Cup Finals,
:06:09. > :06:13.you can see the disappointment on his face there, it took a lot for
:06:14. > :06:19.him to come out and do that and I'm very proud that he did it for me and
:06:20. > :06:23.that's lovely because he is torn up, he's gutted, he's devastated at
:06:24. > :06:28.losing a game. When they were favourites, they had the momentum,
:06:29. > :06:31.they had the form and they haven't really performed. I think it's fair
:06:32. > :06:35.to say that. They haven't performed on the day and they've lost it. Can
:06:36. > :06:39.you believe it? We have come to the end of our time and your time. We
:06:40. > :06:44.thank you immensely for your contribution to the BBC. Jackie
:06:45. > :06:50.Fuller tonne, the one and only. Midweek for you, Tuesday evening,
:06:51. > :06:57.Europa League play-off Cliftonville against Glentoran live online. And
:06:58. > :07:03.BBC Ulster medium wave. Back next Sunday at 7. Also live on the radio,
:07:04. > :07:06.as the Ulster Championship gets under way, Fermanagh of course
:07:07. > :07:14.taking on Antrim in the preliminary round. It will be all for you here
:07:15. > :07:19.on the BBC. Well, that is just about it from BBC NI sport congratulations
:07:20. > :07:23.to the Northern Irish cup winners for a seventh time from Chris,
:07:24. > :07:24.Stephen and Jackie and from me, thanks for your company, bye-bye.
:07:25. > :07:26.Enjoy your summer.
