:00:07. > :00:16.A rare and frank and honest assessment from Mick McCarthy. Plus
:00:17. > :00:17.the last manager to take thdm to the Premier League joins us in the
:00:18. > :00:35.studio. After 12 long years, five m`nagers,
:00:36. > :00:39.and financial straits, could Ipswich town be driving towards the Premier
:00:40. > :00:46.League? The gaffer tells it straight. You could finish 02th if
:00:47. > :00:50.you're not careful. If it is drama and excitement after, you'vd come to
:00:51. > :00:56.the right place. Absolutely incredible goal! The story of not
:00:57. > :01:02.one but two stunning fightb`cks some cracking goals. And chilling into
:01:03. > :01:08.the fight for Premier Leagud survival, we are in Norwich City as
:01:09. > :01:16.the fans take to the airwavds. Jamie, are you happy? I am happy. He
:01:17. > :01:20.was so superb, I don't care what anybody says.
:01:21. > :01:23.Hello, good evening. Good to have you with us. We'll have highlights
:01:24. > :01:26.from tonight's promotion cl`sh at Roots Hall as Southend look to
:01:27. > :01:30.return to the play`off placds in League Two against Oxford btt onto
:01:31. > :01:34.the introductions. And joinhng Paul McVeigh tonight, the man who knows
:01:35. > :01:44.what it's like to manage Ipswich in the Premier League, George Burley.
:01:45. > :01:52.Great to have you with us. Xou are a regular at Portman Road. I loved
:01:53. > :01:57.down to where my family is. My home games have been there. It is great.
:01:58. > :02:02.Still a lot of old faces. I've enjoyed the games as well. Let's
:02:03. > :02:09.start with that amazing victory against Brighton. A possibld turning
:02:10. > :02:13.point. Now you've been taking a look at that game. In the whole context,
:02:14. > :02:20.playing Brighton, so close hn the leak, this could be huge for
:02:21. > :02:26.Ipswich. It was such an good victory down there at the MX stadiul. You
:02:27. > :02:30.think they were up against ht. They needed to get the three points. The
:02:31. > :02:37.only thing is that Brighton got off to a good start. So, Ipswich were on
:02:38. > :02:43.the back foot, even when thdy beat them early on in the season. It was
:02:44. > :02:47.a poor start from Ipswich. But then when you see Tommy Smith popping up,
:02:48. > :02:54.he scored last weekend, and he scored again. He has done wdll.
:02:55. > :02:58.Ipswich are dangerous from set plays. They have big players. And
:02:59. > :03:05.Tommy Smith has been excepthonal this season, he has much shored as a
:03:06. > :03:09.centre half. They have the best centre halves in the Championship.
:03:10. > :03:16.If you look at the goals, sdt play has been keen. These little feet
:03:17. > :03:21.from John Williams on the ldft`hand side. Whenever Aaron Murphy popped
:03:22. > :03:27.up, it was a goal. It shows how well they are doing. Darby, Notthngham
:03:28. > :03:33.Forest, McCarthy knows now whether his team have got it or not. I think
:03:34. > :03:40.at the moment it is still there for them. They've been up and down all
:03:41. > :03:47.season. Near the top six. Only five points off the top six. Bec`use of
:03:48. > :03:56.that women, down at Brighton, it has reduced the gap. So, big wedk for
:03:57. > :03:58.Ipswich. So, big week for Ipswich, but the very fact Town are
:03:59. > :04:02.contemplating the play`offs is testimony to the job Mick McCarthy
:04:03. > :04:05.has done in little over a ydar at Portman Road. So how does hd reflect
:04:06. > :04:09.on the progress during his time in charge? Tom Williams dug out his
:04:10. > :04:14.golf clubs to take in a round with the gaffer and his players.
:04:15. > :04:17.A world away from the presstres of a play`off race Ipswich town's players
:04:18. > :04:21.and management team enjoy a little downtime. Not far away, just a few
:04:22. > :04:25.miles, in fact, for the club's annual golf day, a chance to unwind,
:04:26. > :04:31.take stock and reflect on the fair way they've come. Did you anticipate
:04:32. > :04:38.16 months after arriving yot'd have your team pushing for the play`offs?
:04:39. > :04:41.I don't know. I didn't. That is like one of those retrospective
:04:42. > :04:44.questions. I could look back and think, did I think that? I'll tell
:04:45. > :04:48.you what I thought when I c`me 6 months ago, make sure you h`ve
:04:49. > :04:51.enough points to stay in thd league. I wasn't considering what I was
:04:52. > :04:54.going to be doing the following season. That was the remit. At the
:04:55. > :04:57.start of this season, I thotght I put a good squad together. H thought
:04:58. > :05:03.we'd got a chance. And we still have. We've got to make surd we stay
:05:04. > :05:07.there because we could finish.. We could still finish in the top six
:05:08. > :05:10.but if you are that close, xou could finish 12th if you're not c`reful,
:05:11. > :05:13.or even further down becausd we have some tough games coming up. So, what
:05:14. > :05:19.is it like playing for Mick McCarthy? You know... He's ` very
:05:20. > :05:25.honest manager. He gets the best out of his players. Everyone enjoys
:05:26. > :05:30.playing for him. That's the thing. As a player, I've worked under a few
:05:31. > :05:33.managers before. And, you know, one thing you respect is honestx. He is
:05:34. > :05:35.straight down the middle. You know where you stand with him. Two out of
:05:36. > :05:44.two so far. Go on, then! I tell you what, I want to be on
:05:45. > :05:47.your team today! Ipswich's rise under McCarthy is impressivd given
:05:48. > :05:52.he is working under a tightdr budget. The last set of accounts
:05:53. > :05:56.showed the club's debts had risen to over ?80 million. Although `nnual
:05:57. > :06:00.losses are down to under ?10 million. But some way to go to break
:06:01. > :06:07.even under new financial FahrPlay rules. Ipswich are currentlx the
:06:08. > :06:10.Championship's longest servhng team. 12 successive seasons in thhs
:06:11. > :06:15.division. All eyes are on this man to make the difference. If xou'd had
:06:16. > :06:17.a bit more money available this year, do you think that would have
:06:18. > :06:22.made a difference? But it made a difference? But it w`sn't. I
:06:23. > :06:26.know what my remit is. That's the gig, that's the job I've got. It's
:06:27. > :06:30.funny. People say we haven't spent anything. I know Marcus has put five
:06:31. > :06:35.million quid of his own dough into just to keeping us where we are And
:06:36. > :06:39.we are adhering to financial FairPlay. I'm not saying evdrybody
:06:40. > :06:44.else is. I'm certain not evdrybody else is. And, so, within those
:06:45. > :06:47.parameters, we've done well. I get frustrated at times, and we could've
:06:48. > :06:51.done a little bit better, btt it is not down to the funding bec`use I
:06:52. > :07:02.knew what it was. You mention financial FairPlay. Is that why
:07:03. > :07:06.things have been cut back a bit Or is it the owner wanting to keep a
:07:07. > :07:08.lid on things? Or a bit of both Listen, financial FairPlay hs there
:07:09. > :07:09.for everybody supposedly to adhere to.
:07:10. > :07:11.lid on things? Or a bit of both Listen, financial FairPlay Pueens
:07:12. > :07:15.Park Rangers can have a hugd fine and a few others, I'd like to see it
:07:16. > :07:18.and I want to see who will take the money. And where it is going. We are
:07:19. > :07:21.sticking to it. Within that, we ve done really, really well. At 23
:07:22. > :07:29.Tommy Smith is already conshdered one of town's senior pros. Ht's a
:07:30. > :07:31.good start. If you get 17 of those, you'll be laughing. With McCarthy in
:07:32. > :07:37.charge, he's confident Ipswhch are on course to challenge for honours.
:07:38. > :07:42.Great strike. First and fordmost, he addressed the defensive sidd of
:07:43. > :07:47.things. We were leaking far too many goals. And then he has shordd things
:07:48. > :07:51.up. That's the base for any successful team. We need th`t solid
:07:52. > :07:59.base to build from. And then adding the players of various qualhty. ``
:08:00. > :08:02.of Berra's quality. McGoldrhck, all the players we got on free transfers
:08:03. > :08:05.have been very good for us. And I think that shows his guile hn the
:08:06. > :08:08.transfer market as well. Kidron Dyer's now retired from football,
:08:09. > :08:12.meaning more time for golf. And to watch his hometown club. He has
:08:13. > :08:17.admired the progress Mick h`s made. I hope you got that! He knows the
:08:18. > :08:21.division. He knows how to gdt out of this division. And he's madd Ipswich
:08:22. > :08:30.tough to beat. Before him, there was no structure to the team. Jtst
:08:31. > :08:33.basically go out there and play Go and play attractive football, but
:08:34. > :08:37.that wasn't the case. He has come in, everyone knows their jobs,
:08:38. > :08:43.everyone works 110%. And th`t has obviously resulted in great results.
:08:44. > :08:45.If it doesn't happen this ydar, do you think you'll be under more
:08:46. > :08:50.pressure next year to delivdr promotion? Listen, the longdr you're
:08:51. > :08:56.in the job, the more pressure becomes. I don't worry about that. I
:08:57. > :09:03.will do my job under whatevdr circumstances I am doing it. I think
:09:04. > :09:06.what people underestimate is the amount of pressure I put on myself.
:09:07. > :09:10.I get people patting me on the back saying, you're doing a good job I'm
:09:11. > :09:13.not happy with that, the fact we might just miss out on play`offs. I
:09:14. > :09:19.think we've got a chance thhs year, and still have, to get into those
:09:20. > :09:22.play`off spots. Listen, if H don't think I can get there, therd's no
:09:23. > :09:25.point in me being here. If Larcus doesn't think he could get to the
:09:26. > :09:29.Premier League, I don't think he'd really want to be here eithdr. So,
:09:30. > :09:38.we are still harbouring ambhtions of doing that. So we will conthnue to
:09:39. > :09:42.try to improve. Mick McCarthy ending that report. George Burley, or has
:09:43. > :09:46.it gone wrong for Ipswich in the past kid? If you're a fan, xou will
:09:47. > :09:53.have been left extremely frtstrated, angry at times by the performance of
:09:54. > :09:56.the club. No doubt that in the last 8`10 years, the club haven't been
:09:57. > :10:00.performing very well, as far as getting to the top of the
:10:01. > :10:04.Championship, getting to thd Premier League. There has been a lot of
:10:05. > :10:09.money invested, and sometimds that happens. New managers come, they
:10:10. > :10:17.bring new players in, and the big thing is we are not `` we are not
:10:18. > :10:21.bringing young players in. When I was managing at Ipswich, we managed
:10:22. > :10:26.to get young players, and that hasn't happened. It's not e`sy. You
:10:27. > :10:31.need a few breaks. Before Mhck arrived, they were battling against
:10:32. > :10:34.relegation. And you don't expect that from that club. In the glory
:10:35. > :10:39.days when they were fifth in the Premier League, playing in Durope,
:10:40. > :10:43.did you feel under pressure to bring in staff to consolidate Ipswich in
:10:44. > :10:47.the Premier League? I suppose if you look back at your time, would you
:10:48. > :10:53.have done anything differently? Yeah, I think we got play`offs, got
:10:54. > :10:59.promoted, we brought through young players, Kieron Dyer, all of them,
:11:00. > :11:05.and that was a nucleus of the team. So we had the Premiership there We
:11:06. > :11:12.added one more player when we got promoted. We finished fifth, the
:11:13. > :11:15.best for any club after prolotion. The second season, we thought we'd
:11:16. > :11:21.better do better, and that hs where we went wrong. We brought some
:11:22. > :11:27.foreign players in. It didn't work out. Sometimes, when you lose that,
:11:28. > :11:30.your team goes. We had Mick McCarthy talking about financial fair play
:11:31. > :11:35.which we should spell out. Clubs have three years to break even. They
:11:36. > :11:40.don't have any weight restrhctions on the Championship, but how do they
:11:41. > :11:47.compete if they are making ` loss? I suppose there are other clubs in the
:11:48. > :11:53.Championship, like QPR with such a massive wage bill. And I thhnk QPR
:11:54. > :11:58.have got a similar jet as Dortmund. That is what Ipswich are up against.
:11:59. > :12:05.The fact that Mick has them anywhere up the top... Why hasn't worked for
:12:06. > :12:09.so many years? They have had huge amounts of money thrust at them
:12:10. > :12:14.That is football. Sometimes you move to a new club, change things, it
:12:15. > :12:20.doesn't work out. You can blame the manager, the players, but
:12:21. > :12:27.expectations are higher. As mixers, it is pressure and got deal with it.
:12:28. > :12:35.So, what is the chance for Lick this season? I think Mick is frank and
:12:36. > :12:40.honest. He is organised. Kidron Dyer said that. The boy Berra saxs he
:12:41. > :12:46.brings the best out of people, and that is what you've got to do. They
:12:47. > :12:50.are solid, hard to beat, and he s improving players, like the boy
:12:51. > :12:54.Murphy, who is playing his best football in his career. So, in the
:12:55. > :12:58.Championship, as long as yot can work in your restraint. At the end
:12:59. > :13:04.of the day, as Mick says, you've got to try to bring the best out of
:13:05. > :13:06.people. They have a real ch`nce of finishing in the top six.
:13:07. > :13:09.Plenty still to come. We've news of Southend's League Two promotion
:13:10. > :13:14.clash against Oxford at Roots Hall. Plus it's the cult show for Norwich
:13:15. > :13:20.City fans. We're behind the scenes at Canary Call on match day. Who is
:13:21. > :13:23.the hero? I am looking for Snodgrass.
:13:24. > :13:25.But next, League One, and a weekend of extraordinary comebacks with
:13:26. > :13:29.arguably the fightback of the weekend anywhere coming at the Lamax
:13:30. > :13:32.Stadium. Great news for MK Dons not so for Stevenage. Let's relhve the
:13:33. > :13:38.drama now witnessed by BBC Three Counties Radio.
:13:39. > :13:47.Alan Smith returns it. John Ashton again will head it forward. Freeman
:13:48. > :13:50.gets a touch. Now Stevenage can break forward. Zoko trying to flick
:13:51. > :13:53.it in. Parrett with the shot! That beats the goalkeeper on the
:13:54. > :13:59.right`hand post. Stevenage take the lead. Parrett with his first goal in
:14:00. > :14:08.a Stevenage shirt. And that was well worked by Stevenage. Corner, floated
:14:09. > :14:11.high, this one. The header didn't come. It's a
:14:12. > :14:15.penalty! Akins against David Martin. Right footed, here it comes. Shoots
:14:16. > :14:22.and scores! And Stevenage t`ke a 2`goal lead here at the Lam`x
:14:23. > :14:27.Stadium. Headed on, it is put in the back of
:14:28. > :14:33.the net. It was a goal, a great touch by Lewington. And MK Dons have
:14:34. > :14:39.got a goal back. Reeves now. Long`range... What a goal!
:14:40. > :14:43.Absolutely incredible from Reeves. Only he could have seen that. 3
:14:44. > :14:50.yards out, left` foot shot, it's the inside of the post, and MK Dons have
:14:51. > :14:53.gone level. What a goal. Here is Bowditch. Bowditch floats it across.
:14:54. > :14:56.It's a header down by Lewington Lewington scores for MK Dons! The MK
:14:57. > :15:02.Dons' captain from three yards out has finished an amazing comdback for
:15:03. > :15:08.Milton Keynes Dons. Stevenage 2`3 MK Dons.
:15:09. > :15:11.A terrific match, some terrhfic commentary from the boys on BBC 3CR,
:15:12. > :15:17.in seriously testing condithons as well. Paul, a hugely import`nt
:15:18. > :15:25.victory for Karl Robinson's side. Yes, it certainly was. And when you
:15:26. > :15:29.look at the fact they were 2`0 down until the 80th minute, then to score
:15:30. > :15:31.three goals in the last ten min it really was an outstanding comeback,
:15:32. > :15:33.especially after the defeat against local rivals Peterborough l`st
:15:34. > :15:37.weekend. There are only thrde points difference between MK Dons `nd Posh,
:15:38. > :15:42.so they are still desperate to get into the top six. Just lookhng at
:15:43. > :15:46.the replay, it is an amazing strike. You have to have serious pltck as a
:15:47. > :15:49.team to still think you're hn it when you are away from home. Yeah,
:15:50. > :15:53.it is important you keep gohng. You get one goal, you can get two or
:15:54. > :15:57.three. All of a sudden, when the opposition concedes one thex go on
:15:58. > :16:00.the back foot and that shows you, if you keep going right to the end it
:16:01. > :16:03.is amazing how many goals are scored in the last five or ten minttes of a
:16:04. > :16:11.match. There are always quite a few. And the reason Peterborough are now
:16:12. > :16:14.looking so nervous is because of the huge setback for them at London Road
:16:15. > :16:17.against Rotherham. Just the one goal, Paul, but a hugely important
:16:18. > :16:20.one. Yeah, and I think that is the problem, especially when yot see
:16:21. > :16:24.someone of the like of Kier`n Agard coming back against his old team.
:16:25. > :16:29.Peterborough are always good. They have so many goals in them. They
:16:30. > :16:32.didn't get one on Saturday, but they always have with Assombalonga, who
:16:33. > :16:35.we talked about last week, xou have always got a chance. Connor
:16:36. > :16:40.Washington, a lovely little bit of skill here. And Ajose pulling off a
:16:41. > :16:44.good shot, good save by the keeper. This is what Peterborough are all
:16:45. > :16:47.about going forward. Unforttnately, when you see this side, George,
:16:48. > :16:50.giving away the penalty by Ben Nugent, it's just a shame for them.
:16:51. > :16:54.Yes, I think Peterborough are one of these sides that would be great to
:16:55. > :16:56.watch as a spectator becausd you're always going to get goals.
:16:57. > :16:59.Unfortunately, sometimes, they concede too many. They are `lways an
:17:00. > :17:03.exciting team. I like the w`y they play. They get the ball down, they
:17:04. > :17:06.pass it early, they move quhckly. They are always creating ch`nces.
:17:07. > :17:08.You need a little bit of luck. It could have gone either way that
:17:09. > :17:11.game, but, unfortunately, it went against them. And, crucial that
:17:12. > :17:14.Peterborough get promoted bdcause, as Barry Fry told us last wdek, if
:17:15. > :17:17.they don't, they could face a transfer embargo next year. Well,
:17:18. > :17:20.I'm sure they are geared to get back into the Championship, becatse they
:17:21. > :17:23.certainly have a lot of good players. Everybody has got to set
:17:24. > :17:27.their own stall. It could bd very serious if they don't get promoted.
:17:28. > :17:31.To another of George's old teams, Colchester, next. Quite a comeback
:17:32. > :17:35.from Joe Dunne's side against Bristol City. George, you mtst have
:17:36. > :17:37.been hugely impressed with how Joe Dunne is managing things at
:17:38. > :17:41.Colchester. Yeah, I think they have set their stall out. They are going
:17:42. > :17:47.to bring young players throtgh. Try, maybe, to establish themselves in
:17:48. > :17:50.the league and develop playdrs. They have been a little bit up and
:17:51. > :17:54.down this season, but they have played some good football and they
:17:55. > :17:58.have done well to come back in this game. Well, I was at the gale,
:17:59. > :18:02.Colchester United against Shrewsbury, and they did re`lly well
:18:03. > :18:05.to get the victory. It wasn't the best performance, but it dodsn't
:18:06. > :18:08.really matter at this stage of the season. When you see this khnd of
:18:09. > :18:13.defending... It is just such an easy finish by Wagstaff. There is no
:18:14. > :18:16.communication between the ddfenders. But this is what Joe Dunne can bring
:18:17. > :18:19.to the table, because of thd fact they have got that resolve, they've
:18:20. > :18:22.got the guts and determinathon. Gavin Massey doing really wdll to
:18:23. > :18:27.get on the end of Marcus Be`n's cross. As soon as you get that back,
:18:28. > :18:30.very similar to what we saw with MK Dons, as soon as you go 2`0 down,
:18:31. > :18:37.then you get the one back, then Freddie Sears, back after injury,
:18:38. > :18:41.what a strike that is! A massive goal in the context of the season,
:18:42. > :18:43.George? Yes, well, they don't want to get dragged down any further
:18:44. > :18:47.Then the pressure really gets on. It's great to see them in the new
:18:48. > :18:50.stadium. It's just a shame there are not more people going to watch them,
:18:51. > :18:54.because, actually, they havdn't got any more numbers. Usually, when a
:18:55. > :18:57.club goes to a new stadium there is a big lift, like Brighton got that.
:18:58. > :19:02.New stadium, bigger crowds. Maybe they deserve a few more people going
:19:03. > :19:06.to watch them. Well, let's have a look at the
:19:07. > :19:10.bottom of League One. From Stevenage upwards, nine teams separatdd by
:19:11. > :19:14.just six points. It is congdsted, isn't it? Well, Stevenage, they must
:19:15. > :19:18.be absolutely devastated th`t they haven't won that game on Saturday.
:19:19. > :19:22.That win would have taken them up to 40 points and that would have taken
:19:23. > :19:25.them out of the relegation zone Considering, it was only a lonth ago
:19:26. > :19:29.they were virtually rock bottom So, the fact that they got so close to
:19:30. > :19:35.getting the three points ag`inst MK Dons, they must be gutted. @ busy
:19:36. > :19:38.week to come when you look `t the fixtures. Coverage on your BBC local
:19:39. > :19:40.radio station across the wedk and the weekend. MK Dons against
:19:41. > :19:41.Chillingham, Preston against Peterborough, Wolverhampton play
:19:42. > :19:50.Colchester. Stevenage play Coventry on Wednesday.
:19:51. > :19:54.These games are coming thick and fast at the moment, George. Yes
:19:55. > :19:57.I'll will be there on Tuesd`y night at Portman Road. Derby are playing
:19:58. > :20:03.Ipswich ` that's the one I'l interested in. In the Footb`ll
:20:04. > :20:08.League, you have so many gales. At this stage, points are so crucial.
:20:09. > :20:15.Getting a draw when you are behind, or just nicking a win makes such a
:20:16. > :20:20.big difference. Well, Barry Fry called it the 16`pointer for Norwich
:20:21. > :20:23.against Sunderland on Saturday. The 2`0 win would definitely have helped
:20:24. > :20:26.calm the nerves of the fans leaving Carrow Road, many of whom hdad
:20:27. > :20:29.straight to the phones to C`nary Call on Radio Norfolk. Paul is a
:20:30. > :20:32.regular in those parts and he takes up the story.
:20:33. > :20:38.Well, here's a good`looking couple! You might recognise the guy on the
:20:39. > :20:41.right. A little bit younger, then. The guy on the left, you might
:20:42. > :20:44.recognise his voice, but possibly not his face, especially for those
:20:45. > :20:50.outside of Norfolk. Let's go and investigate.
:20:51. > :20:53.Here he is, Rob Butler, my Radio Norfolk colleague. Rob, how you
:20:54. > :20:57.doing? I'm all right. You'rd looking very smart. One half of McVdigh and
:20:58. > :21:00.Butler. Two`thirds of McVeigh and Butler, two`thirds! Our Radho
:21:01. > :21:03.Norfolk show, every Thursdax night. Rob, you're in doing your fhnal
:21:04. > :21:06.preparations for the game. Big game against Sunderland today for
:21:07. > :21:10.Norwich. Huge. So, what do xou normally do on a match day? Well, I
:21:11. > :21:15.try and get ready in the normal way that any football fan would. I go
:21:16. > :21:19.and have a pint, maybe a half, with a couple of my mates, have ` chat
:21:20. > :21:23.with them, get a few vox pops with the fans and just be ready for what
:21:24. > :21:26.Canary Call is going to throw at us. The game is what people are going to
:21:27. > :21:30.talk about, but, whatever h`ppens, people will have a good moan and I
:21:31. > :21:32.just want to be ready to fidld those calls.
:21:33. > :21:35.We need a hero today. Who do you reckon? I'm looking at Snodgrass.
:21:36. > :21:39.Sometimes I think the fans get at him, but you can't fault thd bloke
:21:40. > :21:42.for effort. I think if someone is going to pull their socks up and
:21:43. > :21:45.really drag us over the lind today, it will be him.
:21:46. > :21:47.OK, well, that's enough of the talking. We are going to go down to
:21:48. > :21:53.Carrow Road. An early cross from Olsson. He can't
:21:54. > :21:55.get there. There's the goal for Norwich City! It was put on a plate
:21:56. > :22:03.for Robert Snodgrass to score. What a shot from Tettey! Tettey
:22:04. > :22:09.What a goal! Tettey volleys the ball in from 25 yards! An unbelidvable
:22:10. > :22:14.strike. Norwich two, Sunderland zero.
:22:15. > :22:16.That is a great win for Norwich Let's see what the fans havd to say
:22:17. > :22:20.about it. Welcome back to Carrow Road. We are
:22:21. > :22:23.here for your Canary Call. With me is Greg Downs. We're going to go
:22:24. > :22:32.straight to the phone lines and get our first caller. It's Dennhs. You
:22:33. > :22:36.are through to Greg. Hello, Dennis. Great result. Very relieved, I have
:22:37. > :22:40.to say, along with 25,000 other supporters in the stadium.
:22:41. > :22:46.Jamie, you going to have a loan or are you happy? I am very happy. To
:22:47. > :22:48.be honest, I think Wes Hool`han has been thoroughly missed by us
:22:49. > :22:51.throughout the season. He should have played a few more games. He was
:22:52. > :23:00.awesome today. Today, his workrate was there. I think maybe coling back
:23:01. > :23:04.into the team, he nicked a few balls of their midfield.
:23:05. > :23:07.What a brilliant game Elmander had! He was so superb. I don't c`re what
:23:08. > :23:11.anybody says, I thought it was brilliant.
:23:12. > :23:14.I thought that was as good ` performance as I have seen for a
:23:15. > :23:18.long, long time. As always, thank you very mtch Greg
:23:19. > :23:21.Downs, always good on Canarx Call. It's been a great day for Norwich
:23:22. > :23:26.City. Yes, a great day, great goal. Let's
:23:27. > :23:32.look at how differently Norwich are playing. The goal aside, how
:23:33. > :23:36.differently were Norwich pl`ying? Well, they did do really well. I saw
:23:37. > :23:39.them recently against Stoke and it wasn't one for the scrapbook. Canary
:23:40. > :23:42.Call is not always the most positive place in the world, but the fact
:23:43. > :23:46.when you get that 2`0 win, ht was just such a good victory. The fact
:23:47. > :23:50.that all five at the bottom of the table all lost, and Norwich got that
:23:51. > :23:54.win was crucial for them. Home form is always key. When you're playing
:23:55. > :24:02.against teams in your vicinhty, it is even more crucial. Norwich up to
:24:03. > :24:08.13th. Seven points away, with Swansea next week. We know the
:24:09. > :24:12.run`in is going to be reallx tough for them. For me, them being in the
:24:13. > :24:14.Premiership, you read about all that and Chris being under presstre. They
:24:15. > :24:18.are in the Premiership, Norwich fans! I wish we were! I would be
:24:19. > :24:21.glad! You have Robert Snodgrass as a player. I remember him playhng for
:24:22. > :24:28.Livingston Reserves when I was at Hearts and watching him and
:24:29. > :24:32.thinking, this boy... I tridd to get him into the Scottish squad. He is a
:24:33. > :24:35.really good buy for them. From the Premier League to League
:24:36. > :24:37.Two next and Northampton's fight to escape the relegation from the
:24:38. > :24:41.Football League continued against Mansfield. 1`1 it finished. Eight
:24:42. > :24:45.games left. Paul, what will it boil down to for The Cobblers, do you
:24:46. > :24:47.think? You've got to say thdy are giving themselves every chance. You
:24:48. > :24:51.see Emile Sinclair here putting the ball across. At least he's put it
:24:52. > :24:54.into the danger area. David Wright, unfortunately for Morecambe, putting
:24:55. > :24:57.the ball into his own goal. At least they have a great chance, jtst
:24:58. > :25:00.purely for their run of forl. What a finish that is from Padraig Amond.
:25:01. > :25:05.Such a great finish into thd top corner. The fact that they `re still
:25:06. > :25:08.putting the run together. This was a good save, but Emile Sinclahr once
:25:09. > :25:11.again getting into the thick of the action. He could have taken all
:25:12. > :25:14.three points. That would have been crucial for Northampton.
:25:15. > :25:17.Considering, George, what is coming up for Chris Wilder, the run he has
:25:18. > :25:21.put together is extraordinary. Wimbledon next for The Cobblers
:25:22. > :25:24.Yes, some tough games. I thhnk everybody was surprised that Chris
:25:25. > :25:28.left Oxford to go to Northalpton. The potential is there. It hs very
:25:29. > :25:31.important they stay in the league. They don't want to be dropphng out
:25:32. > :25:35.of it. They are giving it a good fight and they are hanging hn there.
:25:36. > :25:40.With the spirit they have shown they have a good chance of staying
:25:41. > :25:44.up. Well, it's been a miserable run of
:25:45. > :25:46.form for Southend. They havd gone 12 league matches without a win and
:25:47. > :25:50.have fallen out of the play`offs. Tonight, they could climb b`ck into
:25:51. > :25:58.the top six with a win against promotion rivals Oxford. Kevin Piper
:25:59. > :26:02.watched this one. Having stepped out of the play`offs
:26:03. > :26:07.after back`to`back goalless draws, the promotion challenge frol
:26:08. > :26:11.Southend needed a lift tonight. They got off to a perfect start `fter a
:26:12. > :26:13.goal with just `` after just nine minutes. Will at once and the
:26:14. > :26:31.scorer. This speed of Jamar Loza because
:26:32. > :26:37.Oxford problems night. He w`s very much involved when Southend doubled
:26:38. > :26:44.their advantage. The keeper penalised for bringing down Jamar
:26:45. > :26:49.Loza. Lee Barnard scored thd penalty. Southend United looked to
:26:50. > :26:58.be on the way to ending that winless run. There was a scare from a corner
:26:59. > :27:04.just before half`time. Hearst was very much in the thick of the action
:27:05. > :27:15.in the second half. Good effort just over. Hearst was turning the
:27:16. > :27:19.defenders Inside Out. His shot just pushed over by Clark. From the
:27:20. > :27:25.corner, John Egan with a he`der which again Ryan Clark somehow
:27:26. > :27:32.managed to keep it. Then, straight out of the Wayne Rooney book of long
:27:33. > :27:36.shots, Leonard tried his luck from just inside his own half. Southend
:27:37. > :27:48.preserve the third, and that eventually came, courtesy of Jamar
:27:49. > :27:54.Loza. Great finish by the striker. 3`0, South and up to seventh and
:27:55. > :27:58.back into the play`offs in style. Before we go, just time to let you
:27:59. > :28:01.know what's coming up next week s programme. We will have a special
:28:02. > :28:03.investigation into the statd of the grassroots game in this reghon.
:28:04. > :28:06.Finally, our congratulations to Cambridge as they celebrate their
:28:07. > :28:09.success over Gosport in the Vase yesterday at Wembley. We'll be
:28:10. > :28:11.hoping Peterborough make it two in a row in JPT final against
:28:12. > :28:15.Chesterfield. That's it for this week. My thanks to Paul McVdigh and
:28:16. > :28:17.to George Burley. Please kedp in touch via Twitter and Facebook,
:28:18. > :28:20.particularly Ipswich fans and what you think about what you've seen
:28:21. > :28:22.tonight. We'll read out somd of the best next week. Thanks for watching
:28:23. > :28:31.and goodbye.
