:07:45. > :07:55.way the ball runs. I think they should try it first at non-League

:08:15. > :08:19.level. There is a definite part to Two successive postponements mean

:08:19. > :08:21.Gillingham's last game was 16 days ago when a 4-3 defeat at Accrington

:08:21. > :08:24.left manager Andy Hessenthaler promising to refund the fans. So

:08:24. > :08:27.tonight's League Two clash against lofty Southend was their first

:08:27. > :08:37.chance to pay their supporters back on the pitch. Here's the best of

:08:37. > :08:39.

:08:39. > :08:49.the action from Priestfield. Nick three, Gillingham. He's not quite

:08:49. > :08:52.

:08:52. > :08:57.Dickens's son is not marked. It is driven into the net and there is

:08:57. > :09:04.the opening goal for Southend United. Liam Dickinson this week

:09:04. > :09:09.that in from six yards. Gillingham totally switched off at the back.

:09:09. > :09:19.The goalkeeper, on his first start, he picks the ball out of the back

:09:19. > :09:26.

:09:26. > :09:31.able to get it off the ground this time. I think Martin is onside. He

:09:31. > :09:38.has got players onside, up in support. Ferdinand might have got

:09:38. > :09:43.the last touch to that. 2-0 to Southend. There was a Gillingham

:09:43. > :09:48.play alongside him. Ferdinand thought he was offside here. He

:09:48. > :09:53.tries to get out of the way. Martin was definitely onside, though.

:09:53. > :09:59.There were bodies coming forward and it might have gone in off

:09:59. > :10:09.Martyn. The away side have will control of this game now. 2-0 after

:10:09. > :10:25.

:10:25. > :10:29.that's an absolutely wonderful strike by a Tomlin. It almost

:10:29. > :10:35.looked as though he was going to lose possession on the edge of the

:10:35. > :10:45.box but what a hit. Gillingham are back in business. 3 1/2 minutes of

:10:45. > :10:57.

:10:57. > :11:07.blocked. He has got plenty to aim at. They can't get near him. It is

:11:07. > :11:12.

:11:12. > :11:17.saved by Maurice. What a chance. Not going to hide behind any

:11:17. > :11:21.excuses. We were fresher than them, didn't get going in the first half.

:11:21. > :11:24.They played very direct, physically, and we switched off on two

:11:25. > :11:29.occasions and got punished again. Once we started passing the ball a

:11:29. > :11:33.little bit more with a little bit more freedom, the second half, we

:11:33. > :11:37.could have gotten something out of the game. Time to see how our three

:11:37. > :11:47.teams in Championship action got on over the weekend.

:11:47. > :11:51.

:11:51. > :11:58.Here's Richard Adams and Caroline still undefeated in 2012. Bridcup

:11:59. > :12:05.came close for the Seagulls in the second half. Bekio almost took

:12:05. > :12:09.advantage of poor goal keeping. Barnes was denied by Lon gan before

:12:09. > :12:13.an inspired double substitution changed the game. Rodriguez and

:12:13. > :12:18.Smith combined for Brighton's opener though the lead was short

:12:18. > :12:26.lived. Bekio with a stepping header to put Leeds back on level terms.

:12:26. > :12:36.Once again super-subVincinti has an assist in injury time. Brighton are

:12:36. > :12:44.

:12:44. > :12:47.rivals Nottingham Forest in an emotional day at the City ground as

:12:47. > :12:53.they paid tribute to their former chairman who died recently. Without

:12:53. > :12:59.a goal at home in eight games, McCleary's 25-yard drive avoided

:12:59. > :13:03.the clutches of the keeper to give Forest the lead. Watford almost

:13:03. > :13:10.responded immediately. Use as the's header was kept out. The Hornets

:13:10. > :13:15.did respond at halftime. Murray's free kick helped on its way by

:13:15. > :13:21.Deany. Gunter's volley almost put the home side in front while at the

:13:21. > :13:25.other end, this effort wasn't bad either. Gunther again went close

:13:25. > :13:32.late on. Sean Dice was pleased with the point, especially considering

:13:32. > :13:36.the circumstances around the game. Millwall were looking to build on

:13:36. > :13:41.their excellent FA Cup win at Southampton during the week but it

:13:41. > :13:47.was Derby's Josh Wright that provided Ball with an early chance

:13:47. > :13:51.for the visitors. Robinson headed it narrow wide. This was the miss

:13:51. > :13:55.of the season. Millwall came closest to breaking down a dogged

:13:55. > :14:01.Derby side when top scorer Henderson's initial effort couldn't

:14:01. > :14:07.be converted by Trotter. Trotter again, though, almost won it for

:14:07. > :14:10.the Lion, but 0-0 it finished, and they remain five points outside the

:14:10. > :14:15.drop zone ahead of Brighton tomorrow.

:14:15. > :14:19.A big game coming up for the FA Cup for Millwall, but they're still

:14:19. > :14:23.struggling in the league so much. Results-wise, I have seen them four

:14:23. > :14:28.or five times recently. In their performance they have been unlucky

:14:28. > :14:36.not to win lot, even Birmingham, they was the better team at the

:14:36. > :14:43.The quarter-finals are on the line, a fantastic opportunity to get in

:14:43. > :14:49.there. One or two Brighton fans are very worried they could say bye-bye

:14:49. > :14:53.to Mr Poieret. Could he go? Is that a job he should take? I think he

:14:53. > :14:59.said one day he'd like to take over at Leeds. He was there with Dennis

:14:59. > :15:03.Wise. He enjoyed that spell there. They have come back again, Brighton,

:15:03. > :15:07.won six, come back with two. They had a dip, come back again and he's

:15:07. > :15:11.looking at back-to-back promotions if they get into the playoffs.

:15:11. > :15:15.terms of the difference - you're now in that Premiere League,

:15:15. > :15:19.coaching the reserves. Can you give us the differences between the

:15:19. > :15:22.Championships and the Premiere League? The old saying you get

:15:23. > :15:26.punished more for your mistakes, but I think it's the quality and

:15:26. > :15:30.style of players on the other team is the big one. In the Championship

:15:30. > :15:34.there may be one or two star players. In the Premiere League

:15:34. > :15:38.there are four or five and another two that can be match winners.

:15:38. > :15:41.you miss something about the Championship? There's more games in

:15:41. > :15:47.the Championship, which is always nice! But I think the players don't

:15:47. > :15:50.miss it. We have seen the best out of Hider who has been scoring and

:15:50. > :15:54.playing regularly. Because he doesn't have to play Saturday-

:15:54. > :15:57.Tuesday, you can get better quality out of him. When I watched QPR

:15:57. > :16:02.against Man City, the players raised their game. It was great

:16:02. > :16:06.game, 3-2. Man City ended up winning, but they had to drive hard

:16:06. > :16:10.towards the end. I saw QPR at their best that day. The difference with

:16:10. > :16:15.the subs, Agerro came on, then Johnson, bang, it changed the game.

:16:15. > :16:19.You were saying in the Championship, the game plan was almost give it to

:16:19. > :16:24.Terap and he'll do his magic. That doesn't work in the Premiere League.

:16:24. > :16:27.You look at a Adele last year who was head and shoulders above anyone

:16:27. > :16:33.in that division, and in the Premiere League he's just looking

:16:33. > :16:38.like a good players. Someone who hasn't been able to play a part in

:16:38. > :16:42.Brighton's push this season is Dicker. He had started all but one

:16:42. > :16:48.Championship game this season until he picked up his first injury of

:16:48. > :16:57.the season against West Ham. I knew straight away. I heard the

:16:57. > :17:03.snap, which was quite loud. Leon Bri dcot was beside me. The pain

:17:03. > :17:13.was so bad, I was telling him to get me off the pitch, probably the

:17:13. > :17:13.

:17:13. > :17:18.worst pain I have ever suffered. Gary, five weeks on, I guess your

:17:18. > :17:23.life at the moment is a lot of sitting around, a lot of waiting.

:17:23. > :17:27.What's going on right now? Right now I am just icing my leg at the

:17:27. > :17:32.moment with this machine. It's compression and ice together where

:17:32. > :17:36.it pumps the ice all the way up into my ankle and it's hopefully

:17:36. > :17:40.just trying to get the swelling down. I have been on aund. This

:17:40. > :17:47.machine nonstop every day for the first five weeks. I broke the lower

:17:47. > :17:52.part of my fibula, and I also damaged the inside of my ankle

:17:52. > :17:56.where the ligament that's come away from the bone, so I have the steel

:17:56. > :18:01.plate along the outside with three screws at the top, two in the

:18:01. > :18:05.middle, another three at the bottom. Even if this had happened ten or 15

:18:05. > :18:08.years ago, people would see it as a lot more of a serious injury, but I

:18:08. > :18:18.don't think it is now with the machines and surgeons that we have

:18:18. > :18:35.

:18:35. > :18:39.Don't rush it. 2 -- another two Do you find yourself watching your

:18:39. > :18:44.own team-mates and obviously you want them to do well, but does part

:18:44. > :18:49.of you think I don't want the person in your position to do too

:18:49. > :18:52.well? When you're younger you think like that. You don't want to come

:18:52. > :18:56.back into a struggling team. You might think like that but you want

:18:56. > :19:01.to come back into happy team and there is a buzz about the place, so

:19:01. > :19:05.no, I don't think I am like that. Are your emotions right now very

:19:05. > :19:08.different than how they would be when you're in the thick of it?

:19:08. > :19:11.Does it feel different? When you're involved, you feel a bit more

:19:11. > :19:15.relaxed because you're a part of it and can probably help change it,

:19:15. > :19:19.but when you're up here, you're a bit more on edge and probably want

:19:19. > :19:25.to - oh! And you want to try and do something, and you're twitching a

:19:25. > :19:35.bit more and heading every ball, whereas when you're on the pitch,

:19:35. > :19:38.

:19:38. > :19:44.you're of a different mindset and Caspar, brilliant, mate. Well

:19:44. > :19:49.played. I came to England, in two or three

:19:49. > :19:53.months I got an injury, a cruciate ligament. I was out four, five

:19:53. > :19:57.months. When I came back, I was ready. I was a better player. I

:19:57. > :20:07.understood the game in a better way because I had five months outside,

:20:07. > :20:19.

:20:19. > :20:24.Started running - I felt weird the first day, I felt a bit heavy.

:20:24. > :20:27.You're a bit nervous in your head. No, it's strong, and it feels a bit

:20:27. > :20:33.better. Been out for awhile now, so you

:20:33. > :20:36.have to take your time, make sure everything is right. He gets a

:20:36. > :20:40.reaction from everything he's doing at the moment and be looking

:20:40. > :20:45.towards the middle or the end of March before hopefully he'll be

:20:45. > :20:49.back. I think the last few weeks are the most - not frustrating, but

:20:49. > :20:52.you're eager to get back, do this and that, and you have to really

:20:52. > :21:02.take your time and be careful at this stage. I just want to be back

:21:02. > :21:03.

:21:03. > :21:06.and be 100%. I just want to take my Of course, I wish Gary all the best

:21:06. > :21:13.with his recovery. Let's talk injuries. Worst one of your career

:21:13. > :21:17.- what were they? Mine was probably - what you seen done to Gary,

:21:17. > :21:21.ruptured my ligament and couldn't seem to get back from it. I had my

:21:21. > :21:25.knee washed out. I was just four weeks, and I broke my arm twice in

:21:25. > :21:28.the same season, so lucky, really, because when you see something like

:21:28. > :21:34.that, you doubt yourself as a player sometimes getting back to

:21:34. > :21:38.the top level. It's a telling piece as well because as you watched the

:21:38. > :21:41.progression, in five weeks he had an ice sock on, then he starts

:21:41. > :21:45.running, even though he's not running freely... When you have

:21:45. > :21:48.been out, you're watching the games on the side, and once you start to

:21:48. > :21:51.jog, even if you're limping slightly, you're just so happy to

:21:52. > :21:55.be running and back on the side of the pitch just doing little things.

:21:55. > :22:00.It's part of your process. longer injury isn't the process.

:22:00. > :22:08.It's the set-backs during the injuries that can mentally train

:22:08. > :22:13.you. You're out six months, then you get set back another month that

:22:13. > :22:17.can be... Often the player tries to push himself too hard and the

:22:17. > :22:21.physios say, that's enough. remember talking to Danny

:22:21. > :22:25.Hignbottom at Stoke and what he said was soul destroying is he's

:22:25. > :22:29.looking out on the pitch on a stationary bike, and the players

:22:29. > :22:33.are having fun, kicking the ball about, and he starts to question

:22:33. > :22:37.whether he wants to be a footballer at all. The best part of football

:22:37. > :22:42.is training during the week, then going out on the weekend on the

:22:42. > :22:44.field. That's what you enjoy. You just want to be fit. I would rather

:22:44. > :22:49.be completely out of form than injured. When you're out of form,

:22:49. > :22:53.you can keep working and get back in the game. You just feel detached.

:22:53. > :22:57.You're joining in with the banter and everything in the changing room.

:22:57. > :23:01.They're out and you're in the gym doing your own work. I was out for

:23:01. > :23:04.five-and-a-half months. I learned a lot about myself. That's the advice

:23:04. > :23:09.I would give to Gary. There are lots of players out there - it is

:23:09. > :23:14.one of the threats to the job. You can be a great talent. One bad

:23:14. > :23:19.injury, that and can be the end of it all. That's - when people talk

:23:19. > :23:23.about the money, you get X amount, whatever, one bad tackle or landing,

:23:23. > :23:27.it can all be over. It's not about the money. You can bring in as much

:23:27. > :23:35.money as you want. If you're not allowed to do something you love,

:23:35. > :23:38.it's totally depressing. You can see how it sends some people around

:23:38. > :23:44.the twist. Wickham are those that would back the use of plastic

:23:44. > :23:47.pitches. Ironically, they're the only ones in clubs one or two that

:23:47. > :23:54.played. As you can see, it was always going to be a tough game for

:23:54. > :24:00.them. We spoke of the importance last week when they played and

:24:00. > :24:03.others didn't win - and vice versa. It was always going to be difficult,

:24:03. > :24:07.Sheffield united, a great home record, pushing the playoffs. They

:24:07. > :24:11.took advantage last week, and we said How good it was, the other

:24:11. > :24:14.teams take advantage - I think you would still have points on the

:24:14. > :24:20.board I think going into the final stretch. Looking at the league

:24:20. > :24:30.table, still well within their own hands. That's all you want to do,

:24:30. > :24:46.

:24:46. > :24:49.You look at their next few fixtures, they're playing a lot of the teams

:24:49. > :24:55.around them. The managers have to sit their players down and say we

:24:55. > :24:59.have to get some points. Three out of the five games - Yeovil, Walsall,

:24:59. > :25:08.Hartlepool, orient - those teams right above you, right below you,

:25:08. > :25:14.they're the games you have to win. Forget the team at the top. Gary

:25:14. > :25:18.will know that. He'll emphasise that. Those are the teams. If you

:25:18. > :25:22.can get something out of that Yeovil at home, it sets you up for

:25:22. > :25:27.the other games. From the manager's perspective, what does he want to

:25:27. > :25:31.see from the playerss, in the team talks? Does he want to see them

:25:31. > :25:34.engage with him? If they're not up for the battle that can be the end

:25:34. > :25:37.of the season. Confidence - that's what you want to see from your

:25:37. > :25:41.players - you can tell from your players, confidence and the know-

:25:41. > :25:45.how, the job they're doing. He says, "Do you want to go back in the

:25:46. > :25:50.division you were in last year or stay in this division? Stay in this

:25:50. > :25:56.division". We look at the top of the Championship we have seen this

:25:56. > :26:01.season - West Ham are up there, QPR spent most of their time the top

:26:01. > :26:04.last time out. What would the advice be for Hammers' fans to get

:26:04. > :26:08.back into the Premiere League? Doesn't matter how you win games,

:26:08. > :26:12.you just need to win. Sam Allardyce has that thought. It doesn't matter

:26:12. > :26:16.how you get the three points. You can play the best football in the

:26:16. > :26:19.world, but you're not going back to the promised land, the Premiere

:26:19. > :26:23.League. It's the hardest when you're at the top. You're there to

:26:23. > :26:26.be shot at. You have to get back to the Premiere League and the

:26:26. > :26:30.position you're in now. Southampton were there for a long time, fell

:26:30. > :26:33.away. West Ham are now in. It should be, let's just play the way

:26:33. > :26:37.we did the first of the season, we'll be fine, but it's so

:26:37. > :26:41.difficult when you have these teams chasing you and desperate to get up

:26:41. > :26:44.there. Of course. When they go to the Hammers, look at the size of

:26:44. > :26:48.the ground - they all raise their game. I still think they're on

:26:48. > :26:52.target. I think Sam has confidence, a lot of new signings, eight, nine

:26:52. > :26:56.strikers in the club. I think they'll be fine. Exactly as QPR did,

:26:56. > :27:02.if West Ham were to go up, they'd have to rebuild and bring in a lot

:27:02. > :27:05.more players to be a Premiere League side. You want the make. Get

:27:05. > :27:11.there first. Fans, if you're watching, that's how they do it. A

:27:11. > :27:16.big thank you to our mark's tonight. Next time, a highlight of

:27:16. > :27:19.Brentford's match to Carlisle in League One, also commentary on the

:27:19. > :27:24.radio. Talking Brentford, we'll leave you

:27:24. > :27:29.with a Bees football nightmare, the time when a four-legged friend

:27:29. > :27:33.turned foe to inflict one of football's freakiest injuries.

:27:33. > :27:43.We'll be back tomorrow night at five past 11.00pm. Thanks for

:27:43. > :27:52.

:27:52. > :27:55.Charles Thomas George Brodie, or Chip Brodie for short - he was a

:27:55. > :28:00.top quality goalkeeper, couragous, consistent and with faultless

:28:00. > :28:05.handling. He played in all four divisions of

:28:05. > :28:08.the Football League. He played around 400 league League games, was

:28:08. > :28:13.a former Scotland schoolboy international and had also

:28:13. > :28:16.represented the Army. They really warmed to him. He was a popular

:28:16. > :28:22.goalkeeper because he spent time with fans. He always seemed to have

:28:22. > :28:28.a smile on his face. Then in November 1970 in an away match at

:28:28. > :28:32.Colchester this happened - Peter Gelson's harmless back pass, not an

:28:32. > :28:37.opponent in sight, and he was tackled - by a dog. It seemed funny

:28:37. > :28:41.at the time, but it really was no joke. The collision left him with a

:28:41. > :28:47.busted knee ligament and effectively ended his League career
