:00:15. > :00:20.For so many teams, we are happy to be back. -- just ten games left to
:00:21. > :02:03.play. It promises to be a thrilling end to
:02:04. > :02:07.the season, and with me tonight two men whose teams are at the heart of
:02:08. > :02:14.the drama. Leyton Orient manager, Russell Slade, and the man he signed
:02:15. > :02:18.for Yeovil town, Mark Birch. Sitting pretty, second in league one, do you
:02:19. > :02:23.dream of the championship -- Championship question we are happy
:02:24. > :02:28.with 70 points with 12 games to go, but a lot of important points to
:02:29. > :02:31.play for. A slightly different situation from Millwall. How
:02:32. > :02:37.stressful as it down there at the moment? It's always a bit stressful,
:02:38. > :02:42.but we are playing well and we have to turn the performances into three
:02:43. > :02:48.points. Plenty more from Russell and Marc, but also coming up, we head to
:02:49. > :02:51.Belgium to find out more about the man who owns Charlton athletic and a
:02:52. > :02:57.few other clubs. How do you choose your priority? I have five children,
:02:58. > :03:04.which is the priority in your children? They are all your
:03:05. > :03:08.priority. Brentford's bold vision. Having put penalty pain behind
:03:09. > :03:12.them, they are thinking big. Part of moving to a new big stadium is the
:03:13. > :03:19.Premier league, and it might seem enhancement -- a nonsense, but why
:03:20. > :03:22.shouldn't we dream? And all the goals from the weekend, including a
:03:23. > :03:29.beauty from Leyton Orient. And a tribute to a man who gave his all to
:03:30. > :03:33.Dagenham and Redbridge. He was a big man, and he will be sorely missed.
:03:34. > :03:37.The place might be the same without him. Why settle for buying lots of
:03:38. > :03:41.football players if you can afford to buy lots of football clubs crush
:03:42. > :03:45.the new Charlton owner has done just that, but will his European network
:03:46. > :03:51.hinder their hopes of returning to the Premier league. We sent Chris to
:03:52. > :03:56.the Valley and to Belgium to find out more. Charlton athletic football
:03:57. > :04:02.club should hear tonight if it can return to its old ground at the
:04:03. > :04:08.Valley. Johnnie Jackson has won if a Charlton. Every club has its own
:04:09. > :04:14.identity, but are Charlton in danger of losing theirs? They are now one
:04:15. > :04:25.of six clubs across Europe effectively run by Roland du
:04:26. > :04:29.Chatelier, one of the richest men in Belgium. It's like the Independent
:04:30. > :04:35.copy shop being bought out by a multinational, different branches,
:04:36. > :04:40.same network -- Independent copy shop. This is the heart of the
:04:41. > :04:48.network, home of Standard Liege currently heading for the Champions
:04:49. > :04:54.League, and what happens at Charlton could be influenced by what happens
:04:55. > :05:00.here. Where do Charlton fit into your network? As a club in its own
:05:01. > :05:05.right, and the benefit to Charlton is that it has some friends in other
:05:06. > :05:08.countries and they can exchange players, especially for younger
:05:09. > :05:14.players, it's an opportunity to get experience. Overseeing the
:05:15. > :05:21.successful youth academy, is the sports manager. How do you think
:05:22. > :05:26.your job will be affected by the relationship with Charlton? When a
:05:27. > :05:32.player is not good enough for the first team, and he needs some
:05:33. > :05:36.experience, he can do it at Charlton, and when we have a big
:05:37. > :05:45.player at Charlton, he can come to Standard Liege. Do you speak to
:05:46. > :05:52.Chris Powell, the manager, much We had some communication in January
:05:53. > :05:56.because it was an important time for Charlton, and now we need to talk
:05:57. > :06:04.more about how we will organise in the future. He bought Standard three
:06:05. > :06:09.years ago, the same year his son Roderick bought the Hungarian
:06:10. > :06:17.top-flight side. This winter, he purchased German fourth division
:06:18. > :06:22.outfit Carl Zeiss Jena, Charlton, then a Spanish second division club.
:06:23. > :06:28.How do you choose your priority If you have five children, what is your
:06:29. > :06:36.priority? They are all a priority. I hope we stay as the priority. After
:06:37. > :06:39.all, he is a Belgium. One player who does not succeed here might succeed
:06:40. > :06:45.in another. It could be an advantage. I just think he buys
:06:46. > :06:52.clubs here and there just to make money. While some of the streets
:06:53. > :07:00.around the stadium were an angry place as Standard demanded that
:07:01. > :07:09.Duchatelet sell up. Why were you so angry? He started selling all of our
:07:10. > :07:12.best players, and he brought in players who no one really knew. We
:07:13. > :07:16.believed he had just bought the club to make money, so there were
:07:17. > :07:23.demonstrations. An explosion, and the fans revolted. Now you are
:07:24. > :07:29.happy. What has changed your mind? Now he has invested in the club and
:07:30. > :07:32.the results have change. I'm not sure things would be the same if we
:07:33. > :07:38.were eighth in the league. People are positive. He is a stable man.
:07:39. > :07:42.The network breaks no rules, bid of two clubs you don't qualify for
:07:43. > :07:50.Europe in the same season, only one could compete -- his network break
:07:51. > :07:54.no rules. He wants to be present in two of the big championships,
:07:55. > :07:58.England and Spain, and he asked people to find a club near a big
:07:59. > :08:04.city, London and Madrid. It's very important in the strategy. Buying a
:08:05. > :08:09.club for him is a commitment, he's really committed to the future of
:08:10. > :08:13.the club. This club also needs to make money. It is not to be excluded
:08:14. > :08:21.that some players will be sold from Charlton to Standard Liege. It will
:08:22. > :08:25.be some time yet if we know whether the network works for Charlton.
:08:26. > :08:34.Chris also discovered that they get Late Kick Off in Belgium, so hello
:08:35. > :08:37.to any fans out there. It all helps with the ratings. You are a big
:08:38. > :08:41.football fan as well as being a coach. If you put your fan's head-on
:08:42. > :08:46.at the moment, what will the Charlton fans make of what they have
:08:47. > :08:50.seen? They are worried they would be turned into a feeder club. You heard
:08:51. > :08:55.him mention that the best players are ones they would take, but as a
:08:56. > :08:58.fan, it comes down to performances. If they are winning and getting to
:08:59. > :09:00.the top of the league and the players coming in are better than
:09:01. > :09:06.the ones there, you don't really mind. Victories can paper over a lot
:09:07. > :09:11.of cracks. If they are doing well, the fans will moan, but if -- the
:09:12. > :09:16.fans will not moan, but if they don't do well, the trouble will
:09:17. > :09:21.come. If you work Chris Powell, would you be wary about having
:09:22. > :09:25.players coming in? It's a very difficult situation. Chris has got
:09:26. > :09:29.to maximise his club, meaning getting the best out of his players,
:09:30. > :09:33.the players that coming. It's very important that he is part of the
:09:34. > :09:38.selection process, if players are coming to England and playing for
:09:39. > :09:40.Charlton. Because, at the end of the day, he's the manager and he needs
:09:41. > :09:46.to manage the football club. He does not need that taken away from him.
:09:47. > :09:50.Talking about European football there is a link to Leyton Orient,
:09:51. > :09:52.and that is that your club is amongst the highest goal-scorers in
:09:53. > :09:59.the whole of Europe. Where you were rarer that? -- aware that? Not
:10:00. > :10:04.really. I knew we had scored about 65. I suspect it would be there
:10:05. > :10:12.There you are, you are fifth in the table. Leyton Orient, above Bayern
:10:13. > :10:18.Munich. There you go, so people need to buy more season tickets, don t
:10:19. > :10:24.they? They certainly do. We keep them entertained. They are scoring
:10:25. > :10:29.plenty. Saturday, your third win in a row, left it late, but how did you
:10:30. > :10:31.say? Little bit fortunate. A tight first half. Great finish by David
:10:32. > :10:39.Mooney. Second period, fair play to the
:10:40. > :10:43.opposition, they came at us. They managed to get an equaliser. It
:10:44. > :10:48.looked like we would have to settle for just a point, but my team never
:10:49. > :10:55.lie down. They showed great character. There's always a
:10:56. > :10:58.possibility on a counterattack. Moses is only 20 years of age, but
:10:59. > :11:03.he took it well, like a really experienced player. I have seen him
:11:04. > :11:06.a couple of times this season, and he was the player that stood out for
:11:07. > :11:12.me, not having seen him before. It can play on the right wing, or at
:11:13. > :11:16.right back. How good can he be? He is still improving and developing,
:11:17. > :11:20.but he's 20 years of age, and he has played 100 games already. He is
:11:21. > :11:25.learning all the time and improving all the time. As you say, he's a
:11:26. > :11:28.great product of the youth policy. You're still there in the top two
:11:29. > :11:32.and you have not been out of the top three all season.
:11:33. > :11:41.Is it reasonable to expect Championship football next season?
:11:42. > :11:45.We are hanging in there. We managed to win three home games, which is
:11:46. > :11:49.really important to us. It has given us a real boost. We have the
:11:50. > :11:55.momentum. We have the character And we have never say die attitude.
:11:56. > :11:58.People from outside have had nothing but praise for Leyton Orient, but
:11:59. > :12:02.there has been thinking that with the resources Russell has available,
:12:03. > :12:08.how long will it be until they blow up? Are you surprised by what they
:12:09. > :12:12.have done? No, because I know how well Russell can do there. From the
:12:13. > :12:18.outside, they have no right to be up there, with the size of squat on the
:12:19. > :12:22.budget they have, but -- squad. But you can have a good team spirit and
:12:23. > :12:28.the players that will play week in, week out. As Russell said before,
:12:29. > :12:32.it's about keeping them fit and not too many suspensions, and they have
:12:33. > :12:36.a good chance. When you have had the suspension, you have coped well So
:12:37. > :12:40.far, so good. We have been off there for ten months and it's taken most
:12:41. > :12:44.Brentford fans all of that time to recover from last season's pretty
:12:45. > :12:50.cruel finish. If you recall the penalty kick away from promotion,
:12:51. > :12:53.then defeat in a play-off final but the Championship is in their sides,
:12:54. > :13:01.and as Richard Allen 's founder they have big plans for the future.
:13:02. > :13:05.-- Richard Adams found out. Can he send Brentford into the macro
:13:06. > :13:11.championship? He has hit the bar. Unbelievable. Doncaster Rovers have
:13:12. > :13:27.one. They are up into the Championship --
:13:28. > :13:32.It was an unpleasant few days back in the office afterwards while
:13:33. > :13:37.everybody can be terms with how close we had come, and then you have
:13:38. > :13:42.to drag yourself up. Life moves on and you play for the new season
:13:43. > :13:46.People deal with it in different ways. You have to learn from it and
:13:47. > :13:53.use it as a positive thing to drive us on. It has been good how the boys
:13:54. > :13:57.have responded. Great carrot, they have learned from last year. The
:13:58. > :14:05.young ones have really learn from the experience. They have shown
:14:06. > :14:11.their form. Their aim is now to put right last season's wrong. On the
:14:12. > :14:16.pitch, the squad is getting stronger. They have done it right
:14:17. > :14:20.with the Academy. They are building it up. The owner made it clear that
:14:21. > :14:24.the priority was promotion. The players are aware of that, the
:14:25. > :14:28.management have been aware of that, and the office staff as well. We
:14:29. > :14:30.have invested in systems behind-the-scenes dementia we can
:14:31. > :14:36.meet the demands of Championship football. With a decision on a new
:14:37. > :14:41.stadium imminent, they look set to say goodbye to Griffin Park and
:14:42. > :14:46.hello to Lionel Road. A mile from their current home, the
:14:47. > :14:52.planned new stadium has been 12 years in the making. Final approval
:14:53. > :15:02.now less -- rests with Eric Pickles. What are the implications are - of
:15:03. > :15:07.not leaving Griffin Park? It is not sustainable at Griffin Park. We are
:15:08. > :15:11.losing ?5 million per year. We have got a fantastically generous owner
:15:12. > :15:15.who is funding the losses. But it can't continue forever. Staying in
:15:16. > :15:26.the long term just isn't going to allow us to prosper.
:15:27. > :15:33.There has been so much transformation. Put into words what
:15:34. > :15:42.has happened to the club? It has been outstanding. They have had a
:15:43. > :15:47.clear ambition. They have changed the playing squad. The staff has
:15:48. > :15:53.been changed. There has been a strong foundation of change and we
:15:54. > :15:56.are in a strong position. It may seem nonsense to some people to
:15:57. > :16:01.think about the Premier League, but why shouldn't we dream? We have got
:16:02. > :16:06.a stadium and a group of people who can achieve the ambition.
:16:07. > :16:12.Harbouring Premier League dreams, Brentford are leaving nothing to
:16:13. > :16:16.chance, including who takes the penalties. Last-minute penalty, last
:16:17. > :16:26.game of the season. Who is going to take it? It is always on the board
:16:27. > :16:34.now. We will wait and see. First of all, Benford fans, sorry
:16:35. > :16:38.for showing that penalty again! A colleague of mine isn't going to
:16:39. > :16:50.forgive me. It had to go in. Whatever coverage from what
:16:51. > :16:54.happened. -- what a recovery. They have made tremendous strides on and
:16:55. > :16:58.off the field. It is no surprise to me that they are in the mix. They
:16:59. > :17:01.have got a good squad of players and that is the most important thing.
:17:02. > :17:06.They have got a talented group that can go all the way. If they find
:17:07. > :17:14.themselves in a similar per lead that the position, you the previous
:17:15. > :17:21.experience will help them? -- in a similar position, do you think the
:17:22. > :17:27.previous experience will help them? If it happens on the last day, it
:17:28. > :17:31.could really hurt them. If they do get that experience of the players,
:17:32. > :17:40.it will pulp. You played a week home week on Saturday, so how big could
:17:41. > :17:48.that be? -- you play them at home a week on Saturday. We went to their
:17:49. > :17:53.place earlier in the season and got a fantastic result. We need to
:17:54. > :17:57.follow it up again. It should be a full house again. It will be
:17:58. > :18:02.standing room only. Turning to Millwall, it has been a difficult
:18:03. > :18:07.season. One win in the last 15, one in nine since you and Ian Holloway
:18:08. > :18:13.have been in. How do you view the situation? Amex job emotions. The
:18:14. > :18:22.performances have been good. We have let in the first goal a few times.
:18:23. > :18:28.-- a mixture of emotions. The lads have been showing great attitude,
:18:29. > :18:32.great team spirit. The fans can see that. They have been really good.
:18:33. > :18:36.They have been right behind us. If we keep playing like we have been,
:18:37. > :18:40.hopefully it can turn into free points. When you mention dubious
:18:41. > :18:50.refereeing, I have a feeling you may be referring to this alleged push on
:18:51. > :19:01.the Brighton player. Were you adamant it wasn't a penalty? You
:19:02. > :19:05.know everybody in the stadium was. I mentioned it to one of the officials
:19:06. > :19:09.that when that happens, there are signs it is not a penalty. There
:19:10. > :19:15.have been a few decisions against us like that, blatant penalties that
:19:16. > :19:23.have been given. I hope you were polite. Of course I was, I always
:19:24. > :19:31.an! Well done to brighten as well. -- Brighton. Let's look at the table
:19:32. > :19:35.situation. You are just outside the relegation zone. But you have played
:19:36. > :19:41.three games more than Charlton, who play in a couple of weeks. we have
:19:42. > :19:48.got Doncaster at home as well. There will be one or two others who have
:19:49. > :19:53.been dragged in. Blackburn -- Blackpool have been on an awful run.
:19:54. > :20:05.Doncaster as well, they lost at the weekend, 5-0. Hopefully we can start
:20:06. > :20:06.winning and drag them down. Time for a few goals now. Here's
:20:07. > :20:09.Emma Jones and Jamie Reid. Emma Jones and Jamie
:20:10. > :20:14.Not many goals elsewhere involving our teams.
:20:15. > :20:23.The six foot five Swede headed the Hornets into the lead before his
:20:24. > :20:26.striking partner got the first of two he would score on the
:20:27. > :20:29.afternoon. The seaside as hadn't won in 15 games and their slim hopes of
:20:30. > :20:40.changing that will hardly help when they gifted their opponents goal
:20:41. > :20:44.three. This may have been the pick of the bunch. Vicarage Road is
:20:45. > :20:53.proven to be a difficult place to visit.
:20:54. > :20:56.QPR's hopes of a fourth straight defeat didn't get to the best start
:20:57. > :21:02.when they gave away an early penalty. But Ross McCormack's week
:21:03. > :21:10.kick was saved by Robert Green. The Scot, though, made up for that. This
:21:11. > :21:15.free kick was his 24th goal of the season. Rangers' response came from
:21:16. > :21:22.a rare source. Harry Redknapp insist his job isn't in danger, but recent
:21:23. > :21:30.form is just a blip. That automatic promotion place could be slipping
:21:31. > :21:35.away. Charlton were hoping to make it three wins in a week, but perhaps
:21:36. > :21:40.it was too much to hope they could do the double over the league
:21:41. > :21:49.leaders. David Nugent was offside. The flag, though, stayed down. If
:21:50. > :21:53.there was any doubt about that goal, there was no question about the
:21:54. > :21:59.quality on display from the team eight points clear at the top of the
:22:00. > :22:14.table. David Nugent ensured the points would be staying. With
:22:15. > :22:19.Crawley's previously waterlogged pitch finally cleared for football,
:22:20. > :22:27.the team played their first home Game 2014 and got the win they
:22:28. > :22:34.wanted late on the spot. -- their first home game of 2014. Crawley
:22:35. > :22:41.still have plenty of catching up to do.
:22:42. > :22:47.QPR, your former club and the club you support or having a difficult
:22:48. > :22:51.time at the moment. No win in five. Those three defeats in the middle,
:22:52. > :22:58.everybody was expecting that they would be in the top two. Was it a
:22:59. > :23:04.fair expectation? Definitely. With the size of the squad and the money,
:23:05. > :23:09.it is fair. On the other hand, it would be heartbreak to lose two
:23:10. > :23:16.players a day apart. They were big attacking threat. I don't think the
:23:17. > :23:22.transfer went as well for them as it could. What do you make of Charlton
:23:23. > :23:27.this season? You play them a week on Saturday. A difficult season for
:23:28. > :23:34.crisp owl? Yes. I spoke to him. They have got quite a few players out of
:23:35. > :23:41.contract. A lot of stuff is up in the air. Not too many goals
:23:42. > :23:42.elsewhere involving our teams. Here's Emma and Jamie again to run
:23:43. > :23:52.us through the best of the action. Here's Emma
:23:53. > :23:57.Brentford were looking for an instant response after their home
:23:58. > :24:01.defeat to war than some wondrous but failed to score by a second
:24:02. > :24:03.successive match. When they found the back of the net, the flag was
:24:04. > :24:17.already up. It was a wonder strike that won it
:24:18. > :24:23.for Bristol City against Gillingham. Hence in's first goal wasn't bad,
:24:24. > :24:28.either. Peter Taylor says his team simply were not good enough in the
:24:29. > :24:33.first half. They did improve in the second and were back in the game
:24:34. > :24:44.thanks to Charlie Lee's first goal in over a year. The winner, though,
:24:45. > :24:48.when it came, was one to remember. Wycombe Wanderers headed to roots
:24:49. > :24:52.Hall, hoping to maintain the formless and ephemera. Southend were
:24:53. > :25:00.searching for their first win in nine and took the lead. But they
:25:01. > :25:06.were not ahead for long. This effort eventually went in off the
:25:07. > :25:14.goalkeeper's back. Another valuable win for the home -- wayside.
:25:15. > :25:18.Dagenham haven't won at home since New Year's Day, and the fact wasn't
:25:19. > :25:22.going to change against Mansfield, despite chances for both sides.
:25:23. > :25:29.Their efforts included this, and this. The teams, though, had to
:25:30. > :25:36.share the points in what was at least an entertaining goalless draw.
