:00:07. > :00:09.Tonight, under the microscope ` a remarkable look at how science

:00:10. > :00:12.rocket`fuelled Leicester City's charge to the Premier league. And

:00:13. > :00:16.Hereford United ` the latest club to fold, or yet another survival story

:00:17. > :00:30.for the Bulls? Welcome to Late Kick Off.

:00:31. > :00:33.Some pump iron, others do their homework but for the manager of the

:00:34. > :00:40.Foxes, the secret of promotion`chasing is getting back to

:00:41. > :00:43.nature. I like to be out in the sticks,

:00:44. > :00:47.basically, and doing whatever I get up to there.

:00:48. > :00:51.Before the weekend, Walsall thought they were still in the play`off hunt

:00:52. > :00:57.` Saddlers boss Dean Smith is with us. Will they pay a heavy penalty

:00:58. > :01:01.for this defeat at Port Vale? From the penalty spot with his left

:01:02. > :01:04.foot into the back of the net. They are back ` the Late Kick`Off

:01:05. > :01:07.Supporters Crew as we once again have our Question Time for fans.

:01:08. > :01:12.Just four programmes left for you to be in our audience. Facebook, email

:01:13. > :01:15.or Tweet us and we'll reserve you a place. With us tonight, he began as

:01:16. > :01:25.a player at Walsall and now he's managing them ` welcome Dean Smith.

:01:26. > :01:35.Brought his own fan`club it seems. And more from Collymore ` Stan's

:01:36. > :01:54.back. Up the Villa! You can't miss him. This week's mascot is Whaddney

:01:55. > :01:58.the Robin from Cheltenham. Leicester City are back in the

:01:59. > :02:01.Premier League. How did they become the first English side to go up this

:02:02. > :02:04.season? It's not as simple as you might think. Natalie Jackson can

:02:05. > :02:07.give us this remarkable insight to the work of the back`room staff at

:02:08. > :02:23.the Foxes training base which helped secure promotion.

:02:24. > :02:26.Leicester's team have been utterly dominant this season, but promotion

:02:27. > :02:37.to the Premier league has been no fluke. Into the back of the net. The

:02:38. > :02:40.win against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night combined with results

:02:41. > :02:50.going their way on Saturday meant Leicester were promoted. Fans and

:02:51. > :02:53.players celebrated. Early one morning we were given fly on the

:02:54. > :03:05.wall access at the club's training ground to show the secrets behind

:03:06. > :03:08.their success. 7am and the kit man, the cleaner,

:03:09. > :03:24.and the sports science team were already in. An early start isn't it?

:03:25. > :03:28.It can be. It can be a lot earlier. There is an awful lot of preparation

:03:29. > :03:35.that needs to be done before the players arrive. Kev has prepared the

:03:36. > :03:40.drinks that have powered the players to the Premier League. One of these

:03:41. > :03:43.before training, during training and protein shakes after. Some of them

:03:44. > :03:52.will require more tablets than others. Different proteins just

:03:53. > :03:55.dependent on their own performance. We've been given access all areas at

:03:56. > :03:58.the training ground, nothing off`limits, to show the lengths

:03:59. > :04:05.Nigel Pearson and the team behind the team have gone to this season to

:04:06. > :04:09.get back into the top flight. If everybody improves by a couple of

:04:10. > :04:18.percent it quickly adds up and that is what it is about. Anthony

:04:19. > :04:34.Knockaert had barely wiped away the tears at the end of last season when

:04:35. > :04:38.Nigel Pearson called a debrief. We went to the pub. We had two days at

:04:39. > :04:44.the pub in Shropshire which was fabulous from what I can remember of

:04:45. > :04:47.it. It was at that point that we went away and debriefed the

:04:48. > :04:50.positives from the season and discussed where we needed to go in

:04:51. > :04:53.terms of changing the philosophy of it more. They already had a very

:04:54. > :04:57.good squad. Innovations in sports science has this season helped give

:04:58. > :05:01.them the edge. It is about educating the players so each player will have

:05:02. > :05:13.their clips available. So for example here he will show himself.

:05:14. > :05:18.These clips then go on to form unit related clips where we have a coach

:05:19. > :05:21.who becomes a mentor to the players. This season they have pioneered some

:05:22. > :05:23.software for iPads which means players can educate themselves

:05:24. > :05:33.without realising they are actually doing it. That is on and off the

:05:34. > :05:36.ball. He is looking at us off the ball, recovery runs, and all the on

:05:37. > :05:41.the ball action, so he's able to see ten seconds before and ten seconds

:05:42. > :05:45.after that happens. What kind of difference has that made? It gives

:05:46. > :05:56.you an opportunity to watch it whilst you keep working. Strength,

:05:57. > :06:04.pace and power has been their style on the pitch. Every bit of work they

:06:05. > :06:10.do in the gym is measured from leg strength to leg power to speed. And

:06:11. > :06:14.because of the chart here I guess it gives them that competitive edge.

:06:15. > :06:18.They want to be at the top the chart. It has definitely played a

:06:19. > :06:23.part in terms of performance and injury prevention. Having stronger

:06:24. > :06:26.players, they are going to be more robust, resilient to picking up

:06:27. > :06:33.injuries and niggles, so that helps me, it helps the physio room, it

:06:34. > :06:39.helps Nigel in his team selection. They have meticulous planning and

:06:40. > :06:42.analysis of opposing teams. We will watch every team at least three

:06:43. > :06:47.times before we play them. Analysis is done on that aspect as well. Do

:06:48. > :06:52.you have to recruit a lot for the Premier League? I do not think so.

:06:53. > :06:56.It is just key areas where we feel we need either cover or improvement

:06:57. > :07:02.but ostensibly we will run with what we have got and I think from there

:07:03. > :07:04.we will try and build in key areas. They have had a settled side.

:07:05. > :07:13.Statistics show using the fewest amount of players gets results. We

:07:14. > :07:16.can start to see that teams that are doing well in the championship like

:07:17. > :07:21.Burnley, Leicester and Derby were all really high up on that list.

:07:22. > :07:24.This is something that we try to work on, keeping our players injury

:07:25. > :07:29.free. Come Saturday he can pick his best players. The day Leicester went

:07:30. > :07:34.up, Nigel Pearson went for a bike ride. The manager who keeps his

:07:35. > :07:38.focus by getting away from it all. I like to be out in the sticks

:07:39. > :07:46.basically doing whatever I get up to there. It is a bit of escapism. This

:07:47. > :07:53.is the type of thing I enjoy doing. I will be planning another trip

:07:54. > :07:57.shortly. Before that his staff and players want to win the title for

:07:58. > :08:00.him. The way he manages is it's us first and foremost, then it's

:08:01. > :08:08.performance and results second, which is a novel approach, but we

:08:09. > :08:11.believe it works. It certainly has. The club have a togetherness from

:08:12. > :08:15.top to bottom and with six games to go they have returned to the Premier

:08:16. > :08:31.League for the first time in a decade.

:08:32. > :08:38.Congratulations to Leicester on their promotion. The game is all

:08:39. > :08:46.about fine margins, about recovery. With 23 goals scored in the last 15

:08:47. > :08:52.minutes is that they do? Yet it is. When I was there in 2001 they got me

:08:53. > :08:55.back playing with Alan Smith. Previous to being as Leicester I was

:08:56. > :09:01.at Aston Villa and the physio department at Leicester was better

:09:02. > :09:07.than theirs then. They had me playing back within six weeks of a

:09:08. > :09:10.dislocation. Keeping players on the pitch for as long as possible means

:09:11. > :09:16.consistency of selection and consistency of performance. What do

:09:17. > :09:21.you make of those facilities? We try to get the best for our players. Our

:09:22. > :09:28.physio does four jobs because of the resources we have. The art of sports

:09:29. > :09:32.science is finding a balance because players want to play. As Stan said,

:09:33. > :09:41.getting that consistency is fantastic. Mark is a big Leicester

:09:42. > :09:44.fan. I suppose credit has got to be given to the owners at Leicester for

:09:45. > :09:49.sticking by Nigel Pearson, who it was thought this time last year he

:09:50. > :09:51.wouldn't be here. It has been all about stability this year, from the

:09:52. > :09:54.owners keeping faith in Nigel Pearson, to Nigel Pearson keeping

:09:55. > :09:58.faith in the squad. It is basically the same squad and same management

:09:59. > :10:08.as last season. Exciting summer ahead for the Foxes.

:10:09. > :10:11.Now to today's news about another Midlands team which is in money

:10:12. > :10:14.meltdown. Coventry City are homeless and with money worries, Birmingham

:10:15. > :10:17.City financially rudderless and now Hereford United are fighting to stay

:10:18. > :10:21.alive. The Bulls may not be as big as some, but to many of us they

:10:22. > :10:24.truly are an iconic football club. Just five years ago they were a

:10:25. > :10:29.League One side. The Championship was a realistic target. But with

:10:30. > :10:40.success came debt. Over 20 years money worries have meant too many

:10:41. > :10:43.close shaves. Hereford may have been safer keeping its ambitions in

:10:44. > :10:46.check, but sometimes the grass just seems greener in higher divisions.

:10:47. > :10:49.The Bulls have never been one to run away from a red rag. Newcastle

:10:50. > :10:53.United wore that colour when they suffered one of the great upsets of

:10:54. > :10:59.all time at the hands of Hereford. What a goal. They were non league

:11:00. > :11:03.that day and became the first team in nearly quarter of a century to

:11:04. > :11:06.knock out a top`flight side. A few people still look at it and think

:11:07. > :11:11.Hereford are that team that beat Newcastle, although is years ago.

:11:12. > :11:16.Hereford always reserve special FA Cup nights under the floodlights for

:11:17. > :11:20.its fans. The heroes of the past do not pay the bills of the future.

:11:21. > :11:22.Once again Hereford are looking to upset the odds. But then miracles

:11:23. > :11:29.have happened at Edgar Street before. Back then the future looked

:11:30. > :11:34.rosy. Will it ever again? D`day for Hereford United. They went

:11:35. > :11:41.to the High Court on the back of a debt of ?78,000. Keith, you are a

:11:42. > :11:47.fan, what is the outcome today? We got a seven`day stay of execution.

:11:48. > :11:56.We paid 40,000 last Friday. It looks like the club is safe. We have got a

:11:57. > :12:00.club legend here, player manager in the game against Newcastle. How

:12:01. > :12:06.important is it to keep Hereford going? It is very important. Not

:12:07. > :12:13.only for the club, but for the county, for the supporters. It would

:12:14. > :12:17.be a disaster if we fold. Gareth Davies, you have played for Hereford

:12:18. > :12:24.on a number of occasions. Tell us how it has affected the players. It

:12:25. > :12:28.has been downbeat for a long time. I was a supporter as a young lad and

:12:29. > :12:36.was lucky enough to play for my club. It would be a travesty if it

:12:37. > :12:41.went. It can't go. And Dean, you played there ` what does the

:12:42. > :12:47.football club mean to the community? Massively important. It's a

:12:48. > :12:50.wonderful football club. It's very hard because if you get relegated

:12:51. > :12:54.from the Football League you lose the funding and if you do not get up

:12:55. > :12:59.at the first go it is very difficult after that.

:13:00. > :13:06.Keith, thanks for the update. Give him a round of applause.

:13:07. > :13:08.Birmingham City continued their remarkable, and probably

:13:09. > :13:17.division`saving, away form with a win at Doncaster Rovers.

:13:18. > :13:22.He is quickly crowded out. He wins it back. Slides it in for the

:13:23. > :13:28.equaliser. A goal for Federico Macheda.

:13:29. > :13:39.He has got a chance. It is a goal. Novak has scored. The 10th goal of

:13:40. > :13:46.the season for Lee Novak. Is it away win number nine? Federico Macheda,

:13:47. > :14:12.the third goal of the second half. A Is this three precious points?

:14:13. > :14:21.Doncaster one, Blues three. Way that is the chapter and verse

:14:22. > :14:25.about while Macheda should play. They have only got Wigan in the

:14:26. > :14:32.remaining games that are in the top half of the table. With a little bit

:14:33. > :14:37.of momentum they have got to three home games left and they could be

:14:38. > :14:41.safe. But the job is not quite done yet.

:14:42. > :14:46.There are teams and only then that have got games in hand. They have

:14:47. > :14:51.got a healthy goal difference. But they are not safe yet. They need to

:14:52. > :15:07.win that game at home. That conform is worrying. It has been all season.

:15:08. > :15:10.It has been all season, to be fair. They were just saying there in

:15:11. > :15:13.commentary, I think it's nine away wins, they need Macheda, the ideal

:15:14. > :15:17.storm for them is that Macheda gets a couple of goals, they keep a clean

:15:18. > :15:21.sheet, in front of their home faithful, last five or six games and

:15:22. > :15:24.then they go on a little bit of a run. At the other end, Derby County

:15:25. > :15:28.have an 11 point cushion so are all but assured of a place in the

:15:29. > :15:30.play`offs. But that one goal away defeat meant an unhappy return to

:15:31. > :15:34.Middlesbrough for their boss Steve McClaren. Gents, Derby's run`in, it

:15:35. > :15:37.isn't so bad when you look at it. No, it's not, they have a six`point

:15:38. > :15:41.cushion over Reading now and we said over the last two or three weeks

:15:42. > :15:44.that it's about staying in that mini league and I think that they will,

:15:45. > :15:47.particularly at home, they had that month, if you remember where they

:15:48. > :15:50.struggled to score and then all of a sudden they got that five against

:15:51. > :15:54.Nottingham Forest. I do not think they will struggle to score at the

:15:55. > :15:57.iPro Stadium in the remainder of their home games. Dean, we talked

:15:58. > :16:00.about Birmingham and their away form has been so much better than their

:16:01. > :16:03.home form, but how concerned would you be if you were Steve McClaren,

:16:04. > :16:06.you've only won one of your last eight games away, knowing that

:16:07. > :16:09.you're going to go into the play`offs? I think they will be

:16:10. > :16:13.planning for the play`offs already. Some of the teams would have to go

:16:14. > :16:17.on a hell of a run to overtake them. They will be working on what they

:16:18. > :16:21.can do to move forward and get ready for the play`offs. Vic, you're a big

:16:22. > :16:24.Derby fan, is now the time to rest players knowing that you have this

:16:25. > :16:26.11 point cushion and save them for the play`offs? Once we are

:16:27. > :16:29.automatically safe we should rest players and start planning for the

:16:30. > :16:32.play`offs because the key thing is momentum going into the play`offs.

:16:33. > :16:36.Yeah. Momentum is going to play a massive part. It is funny, cos you

:16:37. > :16:38.hear from some Derby fans who talk about the disappointment of not

:16:39. > :16:41.finishing second, but getting into the play`offs highlights just what a

:16:42. > :16:44.great job Steve McClaren has done. It's been a remarkable achievement.

:16:45. > :16:47.After Clough had been sacked I thought maybe if we got someone in

:16:48. > :16:50.we could get some stability this season but that amazing run in

:16:51. > :16:53.December propelled us into the play`offs and we've never looked

:16:54. > :16:55.back since. No, it certainly has. Thanks, Vic. Forest's slide

:16:56. > :16:58.continues. A home defeat against Millwall, just this Jamie Paterson

:16:59. > :17:01.goal as a consolation. Still five points off of the play`offs, Stan.

:17:02. > :17:04.Yes, they are in a group of teams now ` Brighton, Ipswich,

:17:05. > :17:06.Bournemouth, that are all chasing them down. Looking at their

:17:07. > :17:09.remaining fixtures, they've got to play Bournemouth, QPR, Brighton, it

:17:10. > :17:12.is going to be very difficult for Gary Brazil, and obviously Stuart

:17:13. > :17:16.Pearce is not joining the club until July one. The wheels have fallen off

:17:17. > :17:20.at the wrong time and I do not think they will get into the top six this

:17:21. > :17:23.season. Now, is it because Stuart Pearce has better commitments to a

:17:24. > :17:27.radio station that he will not take on the job until the end of the

:17:28. > :17:30.season? Well, I think it is unfair to say better commitments, he is

:17:31. > :17:33.simply that type of man, having played with him as my captain at

:17:34. > :17:36.Nottingham Forest, and knowing the kind of character that he is, if he

:17:37. > :17:40.has signed up to do something, he believes he should discharge it, he

:17:41. > :17:43.will be coming out with me with my radio station for two or three weeks

:17:44. > :17:47.at the World Cup. Yes, stop plugging it. I haven't mentioned the name,

:17:48. > :17:51.but he is coming out and then he will be going back. I think he wants

:17:52. > :17:55.to give Gary Brazil the time to be able to look at what they've got. He

:17:56. > :17:57.will be sending scouts to the games, he will be looking at potential

:17:58. > :18:00.additions for next season and whatever division they are in, more

:18:01. > :18:03.likely the championship. I think going in early for pre`season is

:18:04. > :18:07.probably the best option for Forest. It is a great appointment, isn't it,

:18:08. > :18:10.Stuart Pearce? Yes, I think he is a great fit, being the ex`captain as

:18:11. > :18:13.well. He was iconic at Forest when he was there. I just find it

:18:14. > :18:17.surprising because I still think they are in with a shout of the

:18:18. > :18:20.play`offs and I thought they may have got somebody until the end of

:18:21. > :18:24.the season to give them a little bit of momentum to go up. Adrian is a

:18:25. > :18:27.Forest fan, how do you assess Forest's chances then of getting

:18:28. > :18:30.into the play`offs? Well, if I'm honest, I think Billy Davies, the

:18:31. > :18:33.debacle at the end of his reign and arguably with his training regime

:18:34. > :18:37.which caused a spate of injuries we've had have more or less done for

:18:38. > :18:39.us this season. But it is getting better, Lansbury, Kelvin Williams

:18:40. > :18:43.coming back? Yes, exactly. The two things we've been missing from the

:18:44. > :18:46.middle of the park are the drive of Lansbury and the creativity of Andy

:18:47. > :18:49.Reid. Lansbury is back and Andy Reid is close. If Gary Brazil can get us

:18:50. > :18:53.there, it will be fantastic, but equally there is a part of me that

:18:54. > :18:56.is already anticipating next season and looking forward to it. You are

:18:57. > :19:02.very excited? I've been to the club shop and got "Pearce" put on the

:19:03. > :19:06.back of my shirt. It's 20 years since I've had that on the back of

:19:07. > :19:09.the Forest shirt, so if Brazil can get us there it would be fantastic.

:19:10. > :19:12.Thank you. Let's move into League One, shall we, lots of issues still

:19:13. > :19:15.to be sorted. Let's begin with Walsall and Port Vale, both with

:19:16. > :19:17.outside chances of a play`off place. Dean may want to look away now.

:19:18. > :19:21.Dean may want Back to Birchall, back to Duffy.

:19:22. > :19:24.Ball over the top looking to pick out the run of Tom Pope. Into the

:19:25. > :19:28.penalty area, Tom Pope goes down in the box and that is a penalty. Tom

:19:29. > :19:32.Pope brought down by Paul Downing. In the 52nd minute at Vale Park. A

:19:33. > :19:34.chance for Port Vale to break the deadlock against Walsall. It is

:19:35. > :19:42.Jennison Myrie`Williams from the penalty spot. With his left foot,

:19:43. > :19:45.into the back of the net! Port Vale lead in the Midlands derby. Jennison

:19:46. > :19:47.Myrie`Williams gets into double figures with his 10th goal of the

:19:48. > :19:49.season. Dean, it was a penalty all day long.

:19:50. > :19:52.figures with his 10th goal of the season. Never been a penalty,

:19:53. > :19:56.Manish. I was very surprised when he gave it and I have since seen it

:19:57. > :20:03.and... A BERRY bad decision perhaps? Yes, a very bad decision. Carl Berry

:20:04. > :20:07.being the ref. Well, he gave a penalty against us last day of the

:20:08. > :20:09.season at Crewe when we had gone seventeen games unbeaten and I

:20:10. > :20:13.didn't think it was a penalty then and I don't think that one was on

:20:14. > :20:16.Saturday either. What about the season in general, are you pleased

:20:17. > :20:20.with how it has panned out? I think we will be a bit disappointed if we

:20:21. > :20:23.don't make the play`offs, we have shown an awful lot of potential this

:20:24. > :20:26.year. It was very difficult to replace the goals because we lost

:20:27. > :20:29.Febian Brandy, we lost Jamie Paterson to Forest, we lost Will

:20:30. > :20:32.Grigg to Brentford. He's not even a regular at Brentford. I know, yeah.

:20:33. > :20:35.That must be annoying. Yes, it does a little bit but it is part and

:20:36. > :20:39.parcel of football. We produce players and they get sold on.

:20:40. > :20:42.Hopefully next season as well we can get something more who is going to

:20:43. > :20:51.score goals for us. You know, Craig Westcarr's scored 16 this season.

:20:52. > :20:55.We've not really had anyone else up there. What do you think about what

:20:56. > :21:01.Dean has done? I think he's done an incredible job. We were apprentices

:21:02. > :21:04.together and it is nice to see somebody, a local lad, he has plied

:21:05. > :21:07.his trade at other clubs. You mentioned Hereford, Leyton Orient,

:21:08. > :21:10.and come back to the Midlands to help produce players. It reminds me,

:21:11. > :21:14.if you think of Everton in the Premier League, there is a bit of a

:21:15. > :21:19.glass ceiling because they do not have the budget of Manchester City

:21:20. > :21:22.and other clubs like that. It is always going to be the same because

:21:23. > :21:26.you have big clubs like Wolves dropping into League One but I would

:21:27. > :21:29.say the fact they have come on so much under Dean, they would be

:21:30. > :21:33.disappointed if they do not get into the play`offs bearing in mind that

:21:34. > :21:36.there must be a dozen or so clubs with bigger budgets. It is a

:21:37. > :21:39.testament to what he has done this season. Good luck for the rest of

:21:40. > :21:42.the campaign, Dean. Wolves look almost certain to be the

:21:43. > :21:45.next Midlands team to gain promotion, they need to just seven

:21:46. > :21:46.more points from a possible 15 after this win against Peterborough.

:21:47. > :21:49.season. Good luck for Here's the corner, played short to

:21:50. > :21:52.Ricketts. Curling it in. Batth's header! That was a beauty. Danny

:21:53. > :21:55.Batth pulls his shirt over his head and turns to the South Bank and

:21:56. > :21:58.receives their acclaim. The boy from Brierley Hill puts Wolves in front.

:21:59. > :22:02.Could this be Sako going for it himself? And he does! Olejnik trying

:22:03. > :22:06.to stop it and it's in by Edwards. He has scored for the third time in

:22:07. > :22:09.five games and it is just after the halfway mark of the second half that

:22:10. > :22:15.Wolves are surely set fair to win, leading 2`0.

:22:16. > :22:21.That took them to 90 points, two short of a club record.

:22:22. > :22:26.Surely the title is within sight now? Yes, six points they need, two

:22:27. > :22:29.wins, I think they will get that in fairly short order and again, the

:22:30. > :22:32.theme from last week, Liam McAlinden scoring, his first goal for Wolves

:22:33. > :22:35.at MK Dons, a Cannock lad, and then Danny Batth from Brierley Hill

:22:36. > :22:38.scoring as well, so nice to see a local, younger lads are being

:22:39. > :22:41.brought through, they understand the club, they walk around, the live

:22:42. > :22:44.around the alien, it is really nice to see Wolverhampton Wanderers

:22:45. > :22:59.bringing through a young core of local`based kits.

:23:00. > :23:03.Ken is a regular at Molineux, but what has pleased you most about this

:23:04. > :23:06.season? Goals and good play, and a good manager. And a great away

:23:07. > :23:09.support, some of the attendances you are taking away from home, it is

:23:10. > :23:13.almost around 9,000. 9000 was the last one at MK Dons. Much tinkering

:23:14. > :23:16.needed in the summer, what do you think? Maybe, yes, but at the moment

:23:17. > :23:19.we are doing well. No denying that, that is for certain. Shrewsbury are

:23:20. > :23:21.still battling against relegation and they won at home against

:23:22. > :23:24.Stevenage on Saturday. A huge victory. It was a huge win, it was

:23:25. > :23:37.needed because Crewe, Tranmere, Carlisle, all one. Notts County

:23:38. > :23:41.lost. It was a real sort of concertina effect down at the bottom

:23:42. > :23:43.of League One now, but it was a massive three points for Mick

:23:44. > :23:47.Jackson's men. It was needed bearing in mind that others around them also

:23:48. > :23:50.got three points. The scorer, Jon Taylor there. Not much celebrating

:23:51. > :23:53.going on in the dressing room and that is what the manager wants to

:23:54. > :23:57.hear because clearly the job is not done yet. No, it is a good sign

:23:58. > :24:01.because Michael has gone into that job and it is his first job and it

:24:02. > :24:04.is a tough position that they are in. It looks like there are four

:24:05. > :24:07.from seven at the bottom of that league at the moment who could go

:24:08. > :24:09.and they have given themselves a good chance by getting that victory

:24:10. > :24:13.over Stevenage. Notts County's only goal of the game

:24:14. > :24:13.wasn't enough to help their survival battle.

:24:14. > :24:15.and they have given themselves a good chance by Jimmy Spencer's goal

:24:16. > :24:19.came when they were already 3`0 down and, of course, they did go down to

:24:20. > :24:23.ten men as well. We've got a doctor in the house, Nick is here. Nick,

:24:24. > :24:26.the home games for Notts County are going to be crucial, aren't they?

:24:27. > :24:29.Absolutely, but consistency is the key, the one thing they've lacked

:24:30. > :24:32.all season. They've either won or they've lost. I think they've got

:24:33. > :24:35.the fewest number of draws in the division, maybe even the whole of

:24:36. > :24:39.the 92 teams, so they have just got to be consistent but what I do hope

:24:40. > :24:41.is that whether they stay up or go down that they keep the same

:24:42. > :24:42.management team. they've lost. I think they've got

:24:43. > :24:45.the fewest number of draws It is similar to Dean at Walsall, Shaun

:24:46. > :24:48.Derry is a local lad, born in Nottingham, Notts County supporter,

:24:49. > :25:01.they must give him time, that is what they have not been giving

:25:02. > :25:05.managers over the past few years. Thomas, I have a clue about what you

:25:06. > :25:08.will say, but how hopeful are you that Notts County will stay up?

:25:09. > :25:11.Very. I thought so. Great input, now, on May 18, for the first time

:25:12. > :25:15.in 12 years there will be a Potteries derby. Port Vale are to

:25:16. > :25:18.host Stoke City in a Legends game and here to tell us why are two very

:25:19. > :25:22.special guests, we've got a former Port Vale striking legend, Tony

:25:23. > :25:24.Naylor. And with him, a man who was is Stoke through and through, it's

:25:25. > :25:28.Hancock's Half Minute, it's Tony Hancock. Great to see you, fellas.

:25:29. > :25:35.Tony, let us start with you, you have Port Vale in the blood, why

:25:36. > :25:39.have you arranged this game? My father has Alzheimer's and it is one

:25:40. > :25:43.of those horrible illnesses where we are trying to raise as much money as

:25:44. > :25:46.possible and the best way to do that around this area as for Stoke City

:25:47. > :25:55.to play Port Vale. It will be very eagerly contested on the day, I

:25:56. > :25:59.would think. Who have you got pencilled in playing for Port Vale?

:26:00. > :26:02.I have a lot of the old boys, Neil Aspin, Steve Guppy, Ian Bogie,

:26:03. > :26:06.Martin Foyle and we've got not a Port Vale legend, but a real legend

:26:07. > :26:09.in Ian Rush who said he will play for us. What a signing! I need

:26:10. > :26:12.someone to do my running! That will be a great day. Nick, you are

:26:13. > :26:16.representing Stoke, it is a great cause. Tony is a very well`respected

:26:17. > :26:19.figure and when he asked me to help out I was more than happy to do so.

:26:20. > :26:23.Alzheimer's is a terrible affliction and something John Ritchie suffered

:26:24. > :26:26.from, so I know that the Stoke City old boys raise a lot of money for

:26:27. > :26:30.Alzheimer's anyway. And who have you got pencilled in? Mickey Thomas who

:26:31. > :26:33.is always a good lad, he will turn up. Mike Pejic, they are all a lot

:26:34. > :26:37.older than your squad, I think. We have quite a few I believe who are

:26:38. > :26:40.obviously a lot younger, we are trying to get Rory Delap to play.

:26:41. > :26:44.You are taking it much more seriously! But obviously you do not

:26:45. > :26:47.know who will turn up on the day. Remind us of the date. May 18. Good

:26:48. > :26:55.luck with that, gents. Give them a round of applause, please.

:26:56. > :27:01.Right, so to League Two and Burton's Callum McFadzean is keeping their

:27:02. > :27:05.play`off place is very much alive. Top three still within their grasp,

:27:06. > :27:08.Stan. It used to be 1`0 to the Arsenal, but now it is 1`0 to the

:27:09. > :27:11.Brewers. The goals they have scored in their last six games but

:27:12. > :27:23.crucially they have kept clean sheets. Deleted with that. Over a

:27:24. > :27:27.couple of games, perhaps in the play`off chase, they will have to

:27:28. > :27:32.put teams away and that would be my worry for them, they do not score

:27:33. > :27:37.enough goals. 17 clean sheets as a bit of a dream. Results and

:27:38. > :27:42.performances are very important but so are clean sheets.

:27:43. > :27:50.A very good one for Mansfield. This was a fantastic goal against

:27:51. > :27:55.Morecambe. He scored a similar free kick earlier in his career. Right

:27:56. > :28:00.into the roof of the net. They are not going to go down. It is about

:28:01. > :28:08.point for new contracts. Putting yourself into the shop window. Great

:28:09. > :28:11.strike. I think the manager has done a really good job. It is very

:28:12. > :28:17.difficult when you just come up from the league below. They could not get

:28:18. > :28:21.a victory for a while but they have come through that rough patch.

:28:22. > :28:27.Finally, Rodney's team, we will not ruin your day but you are preparing

:28:28. > :28:36.for next season? That is it for another Late Kick

:28:37. > :28:41.Off. My thanks to Dean and Stan. Rod Laver Robin, please do the honours.

:28:42. > :28:50.If you want to be part of our audience, get in touch with us. We

:28:51. > :28:54.will be back at the same time, same place, next Monday. From all of us,
