:00:20. > :00:24.On tonight's Late Kick Off, it's been a massive night at the Stadium

:00:25. > :00:29.of Light. We reflect on Sunderland against West Ham. Could Gatdshead be

:00:30. > :00:33.heading for a return to the Football League? And Late Kick Off examines

:00:34. > :00:47.the future of grassroots football. Good evening. We live at thd BBC

:00:48. > :00:53.Newcastle studios to reflect on a huge night. We are in the company of

:00:54. > :00:59.the Middlesbrough defender George Friend, John Oster, and as dver

:01:00. > :01:02.Simon Bird of the Daily Mirror is here to provide journalistic

:01:03. > :01:10.insight. If you have any qudstions, get in touch tonight through

:01:11. > :01:16.twitter. Keep those video t`ped archive requests coming in, we have

:01:17. > :01:21.some magic for Newcastle and Sunderland fans later on. And it is

:01:22. > :01:29.Sunderland where we start tonight, at the Stadium of Light. A lajor

:01:30. > :01:34.setback, beaten 2`1 by West Ham United. Here is the reaction of Gus

:01:35. > :01:37.Poyet. I need to analyse if I pick the right team, how we playdd, I

:01:38. > :01:43.thought we played very well, one of the best that home, it is nhce that

:01:44. > :01:50.everybody can see it on TV, sometimes, because you can only see

:01:51. > :01:58.the result. It does not matter what the manager says because yot cannot

:01:59. > :02:03.see by yourself. More chancds, more shots, it was clear, but thdn we

:02:04. > :02:09.lost. Which is the thing we were looking the most, to win thd game

:02:10. > :02:13.somehow. Sometimes, teams know how to win, and West Ham is one of them.

:02:14. > :02:19.It does not matter how they play, they get a couple of goals `nd that

:02:20. > :02:24.is it. What was the thinking in keeping Adam Johnson on the bench?

:02:25. > :02:29.He changed things when he c`me on. I'm trying to use him in thd best

:02:30. > :02:36.way we can. The more spaces that there are, the more influence he

:02:37. > :02:41.has. It would be very easy to say that he would play next Monday, I

:02:42. > :02:46.hope you don't at me why I did not keep him on the bench, at the

:02:47. > :02:54.moment, I don't have a crystal ball. We're not going to give up. That is

:02:55. > :03:01.what the team showed today. If the team had not had the attitude and

:03:02. > :03:07.the determination, then it hs my fault. If I see them like today

:03:08. > :03:11.being the best team, playing the best football and trying to win

:03:12. > :03:19.that is what we are all abott, so we want to go right to the end. It is

:03:20. > :03:25.not a pretty picture for Sunderland, they are four points from s`fety.

:03:26. > :03:31.They do have a game on hand against West Bromwich Albion, but only 2

:03:32. > :03:35.points at home, the worst home record. Sadly, you know what they

:03:36. > :03:39.are going through, you have been relegated from the Premier League

:03:40. > :03:45.with Sunderland. Gus Poyet said they were the better team. Would you

:03:46. > :03:50.concur? Definitely. I've not seen every game at home, but I d`re say

:03:51. > :03:53.they've played better than that In the final third day did not have

:03:54. > :03:59.that cutting edge, leaving @dam Johnson on the bench was a big

:04:00. > :04:04.mistake for me. Looking back in hindsight, he will rue that

:04:05. > :04:08.decision. There was an anxidty and silence in the first half, going

:04:09. > :04:13.back to when you experience it, is that understandable? When you

:04:14. > :04:22.concede early, I think it w`s the ninth, 10th minute, and it had to be

:04:23. > :04:28.Andy Carroll. It is difficult, when used concede early goals like that,

:04:29. > :04:33.getting the fans on your site. They were pretty quiet for the fhrst

:04:34. > :04:36.half, did not really help that the lads on the pitch did not ghve them

:04:37. > :04:40.much to scream about but thdy were still in the game, and you would

:04:41. > :04:46.have liked a little bit mord from them. Simon has rushed from the

:04:47. > :04:51.Stadium Of Light to join us. What Adam Johnson the big surprise, not

:04:52. > :04:56.starting? Exactly, he is ond of their better players, one of their

:04:57. > :05:01.top scorers. You would expect him to be in a home line`up but he was

:05:02. > :05:06.not. It turned into a disastrous night. Sunderland have got one point

:05:07. > :05:11.from their last six games. They ve got to do it now. The thing that has

:05:12. > :05:15.annoyed me about them is thdy have not given themselves a chance in

:05:16. > :05:18.games. They have rallied for the last 25 minutes and everybody goes

:05:19. > :05:26.away thinking the next game will be OK but they have been to note down

:05:27. > :05:29.`` 2`0 down. One point from six having beaten Newcastle in the

:05:30. > :05:35.Derby. You have been relegated before, along with John. On a run

:05:36. > :05:42.like that, how difficult is it to play that and turn round? Rdally

:05:43. > :05:48.difficult. The manner of thd manager dictates the feeling around the

:05:49. > :05:51.training ground. It is important he comes in and he is positive. I'm

:05:52. > :05:55.sure he will be because thex have some difficult games. What ` story

:05:56. > :06:03.it will be if they could do it. They are up against it. We will get some

:06:04. > :06:11.reaction now. Joining me now are Pete six men who writes for a

:06:12. > :06:19.Sunderland website. That was a big blow, that defeat. It was, `nd it

:06:20. > :06:23.leaves us with very few gamds left. It is another must win game that we

:06:24. > :06:32.cannot win. It makes it verx difficult for us now. You'rd part of

:06:33. > :06:36.the team that got relegated, can you see the same thing happening again?

:06:37. > :06:40.I still think the ball is in the court of Sunderland, they h`ve some

:06:41. > :06:45.important home games against Cardiff, Swansea, West Brom, but

:06:46. > :06:55.they are making it harder every week. We have a game against Spurs,

:06:56. > :07:00.we could be seven points adrift It is important we start picking up

:07:01. > :07:03.points especially at home. They do seem to up their game against better

:07:04. > :07:09.teams. They have a lot of them in the next few games. Can thex stay

:07:10. > :07:15.up? If they beat the better sides and don't beat the sides around them

:07:16. > :07:18.they will not. They need to focus on picking up points against Everton

:07:19. > :07:23.and Spurs but they need to beat West Brom and Swansea. We will bd

:07:24. > :07:26.relegated if we don't win two of those games, and I think we are

:07:27. > :07:32.anyway. Doom and gloom at the Stadium Of Light. Not surprhsing,

:07:33. > :07:39.because they have to play four of the top six next. If you were going

:07:40. > :07:44.into training as a Sunderland player, what would be your belief

:07:45. > :07:53.levels with those fixtures? I don't think you can have any idea, it will

:07:54. > :07:56.be a massive task. But what you have found is when it played big themes,

:07:57. > :08:00.they have raised their game for some reason. Tonight was a massive game

:08:01. > :08:05.and a massive three points `nd they did not produce the same kind of

:08:06. > :08:11.energy levels. It is quite bewildering. Not much to chder about

:08:12. > :08:15.in the north`east. Newcastld at Southampton. Alan Pardew sahd it was

:08:16. > :08:20.a performance that they would have to make sure never happens `gain.

:08:21. > :08:25.Where do they go from here? There is a lot to prove, including the

:08:26. > :08:29.manager's reputation. Who knows where they will go next season. It

:08:30. > :08:33.will be a huge upheaval in the summer, they need a lot of players,

:08:34. > :08:39.key positions to be filled. Many players are playing for thehr

:08:40. > :08:42.futures. A lot of the guys who have not really produced, certainly, not

:08:43. > :08:47.scoring in ten out of the l`st 4 games is a terrible statisthc. They

:08:48. > :08:52.have a lot to prove. It seels like the season is peeling off rdally

:08:53. > :08:57.badly. They will experience fan anger if they are not careftl. We

:08:58. > :09:02.will be there on Saturday. They need to see a reaction after those bad

:09:03. > :09:05.defeats. They do. They will not put up with it. 50,000 people are

:09:06. > :09:10.turning up every week, they will not put up with this season peeling off

:09:11. > :09:14.like last week. It is not good enough, and I sense there is a bit

:09:15. > :09:18.of focal anger coming out of Newcastle fans, and if they don t

:09:19. > :09:23.put up a good performance, some people will start hearing it on the

:09:24. > :09:26.pitch. Negative for Newcastle and Sunderland but after a barrdn run,

:09:27. > :09:34.winning weekend for Middlesbrough. GOALS ROUND UP one

:09:35. > :09:37.Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka praised his side following

:09:38. > :09:41.their 2`2 draw at Huddersfidld Town last Tuesday, Boro took that form to

:09:42. > :09:44.Brighton, but didn't break the deadlock until the second h`lf.

:09:45. > :09:48.Danny Graham capitalised on a mistake by Gordon Greer, setting up

:09:49. > :09:52.Albert Adomah to score his 02th of the season. Brighton should have

:09:53. > :09:56.levelled from the penalty spot 2 minutes later. Jessie Lingard's shot

:09:57. > :10:01.found its way to Solly March, who was brought down by George Friend.

:10:02. > :10:06.Up stepped Leo Ulloa, only to blaze his spot kick high over the bar

:10:07. > :10:11.Boro have struggled to hold on after going ahead in recent games, but

:10:12. > :10:13.Danny Graham made sure of the win with four minutes left, to secure

:10:14. > :10:25.only their good to see Danny Graham amongst the

:10:26. > :10:29.goals again. How important was that after the run new have been on?

:10:30. > :10:34.Looking ahead to building for next season. It was really important

:10:35. > :10:39.we've not been great away from home this season, so to pick up three

:10:40. > :10:43.points away at a team like Brighton, chasing for the play`offs,

:10:44. > :10:49.it was a big game for us, and we are delighted to get the points. With

:10:50. > :10:54.the new manager settling in, are some players trying to provd

:10:55. > :10:58.themselves to him? I think definitely. You should be doing that

:10:59. > :11:06.all season, but perhaps bec`use the play`offs are getting furthdr away

:11:07. > :11:10.from us, it is important to play for your place and also the fans. We

:11:11. > :11:15.cannot move on without talkhng about the penalty, the giving awax that. I

:11:16. > :11:21.think everybody here will agree it was definitely not a penaltx. You

:11:22. > :11:27.still claim it was not a file. John was not agreeing with you. Dverybody

:11:28. > :11:32.was delighted to see it go over the bar. None more than myself. We

:11:33. > :11:36.needed that bit of luck, because in recent times, recent games, we have

:11:37. > :11:39.not had much luck, we are w`iting for it. To see it flying ovdr the

:11:40. > :11:45.bar gave us that little incdntive to get the final goal and rounded off a

:11:46. > :11:49.really good performance. Yot did tell me to say you have scored for

:11:50. > :11:55.Middlesbrough since you werd last on. Correct. Here is the rest of the

:11:56. > :11:58.action. Carlisle boss Graham Kavanagh said

:11:59. > :12:01.March would be crucial for his side's chances of survival, with

:12:02. > :12:06.four games against their relegation rivals. Three goalless draws and a

:12:07. > :12:10.defeat later, the Cumbrians are lurking in the League One drop zone.

:12:11. > :12:13.They hosted fellow strugglers Shrewsbury on Tuesday, lookhng to

:12:14. > :12:17.score at home for the first time since February. Reece Brown did his

:12:18. > :12:21.best to get on the score shdet, hitting the bar early on. The

:12:22. > :12:23.defender struck the woodwork again not long after, but the Shrdws held

:12:24. > :12:34.on for a much`needed away point That result made the trip to

:12:35. > :12:35.Tranmere at the weekend a rdal six pointer.

:12:36. > :12:38.Tranmere at the weekend a rdal six Rovers had best of the earlx

:12:39. > :12:43.chances, Jake Cassidy hitting the post before the break. Six xears

:12:44. > :12:46.after making his debut for the club, striker Gary Madine returned to

:12:47. > :12:51.Carlisle after coming in on loan from Sheffield Wednesday, following

:12:52. > :12:54.a spell in prison. He had the best chance for the visitors, but

:12:55. > :12:58.couldn't keep his shot down. A miserable March for the Cumbrians

:12:59. > :13:04.now means they are without ` win in eight games.

:13:05. > :13:09.Pools received a boost going into this game with the news that in`form

:13:10. > :13:12.midfielder Jack Barmby will be staying at the club on loan until

:13:13. > :13:16.the end of the season. Bradley Walker tested Scott Brown in the

:13:17. > :13:21.Cheltenham goal in the first half. Pools had another good opportunity

:13:22. > :13:27.after the break. Jack Compton had a free header in the box, but he could

:13:28. > :13:30.only send the ball wide. Pools' season appears to be running out of

:13:31. > :13:33.steam, and they fell behind when Jermaine McGlashan netted from close

:13:34. > :13:35.range 16 minutes from time, after Darren HOlden failed to cle`r David

:13:36. > :13:46.Noble's cross. York City have gone from thd threat

:13:47. > :13:51.of Conference football to Ldague Two play`off contenders in just over a

:13:52. > :13:54.year under Nigel Worthington. John McCombe had the home side's best

:13:55. > :13:59.chance in the first half, hdading just over the bar. Billy Ked showed

:14:00. > :14:03.great technique, and rattled the York crossbar with this strhke from

:14:04. > :14:07.25 yards. The York boss prahsed his side's work rate as they held on for

:14:08. > :14:10.a point, their ninth clean sheet in ten games. The Minstermen drop out

:14:11. > :14:15.of the play`offs, but only on goal difference.

:14:16. > :14:21.Gateshead came from behind to beat Aldershot on Tuesday night. James

:14:22. > :14:25.Marwood's goal late in the game sealing a 2`1 win, and Gary Mills'

:14:26. > :14:28.side left it later on Saturday, JJ O'Donnell scoring the winner in the

:14:29. > :14:31.dying seconds against Braintree That win moved Gateshead up to third

:14:32. > :14:34.in the Conference, their highest position of the season so f`r,

:14:35. > :14:40.giving them a chance of rettrning to the Football League after a 54 year

:14:41. > :14:43.absence. As mentioned, it's 54 long xears

:14:44. > :14:46.since Gateshead last played in the Football League, but as Matt

:14:47. > :14:52.Raisbeck reports, a welcome return might not be too far away.

:14:53. > :15:11.It's been an exciting season for Gateshead Football Club.

:15:12. > :15:17.With a play`off spot within their grasp, it's make or break thme for

:15:18. > :15:20.Gary Mills' men. Over half a century since they

:15:21. > :15:24.regularly hosted the likes of Crystal Palace, Notts Countx and

:15:25. > :15:29.Oldham, Gateshead are in with a realistic chance of returning to the

:15:30. > :15:32.Football League. It's now almost five`and`a`half

:15:33. > :15:35.decades since Gateshead failed to be re`elected to the Football League,

:15:36. > :15:44.an old`fashioned system where club chairmen voted on who would be part

:15:45. > :15:49.of the 92 clubs. It really came as a shock. The first

:15:50. > :15:52.I heard about it was when the Evening Chronicle was delivdred I

:15:53. > :15:56.was waiting at the door to find out what had happened, and my ndxt door

:15:57. > :16:00.neighbour beat me to it. He came out and said, "I think your teal's just

:16:01. > :16:03.been kicked out of the leagte." That's how I heard about it, which

:16:04. > :16:06.was devastating naturally. During the 1950s, Gateshead were playing in

:16:07. > :16:09.the lower divisions of the Football League, but they also enjoydd some

:16:10. > :16:17.fine moments in the FA Cup, including a quarterfinal tid against

:16:18. > :16:20.Bolton in 1953. At that timd they had a very, very good side.

:16:21. > :16:25.Throughout the early 50s thdy were one of the best sides in thd north,

:16:26. > :16:28.just missing out on promotion a few times. In those days only one team

:16:29. > :16:32.went up. After that, it bec`me a struggle through the latter part of

:16:33. > :16:36.the 50s, so I don't have too many memories of big wins or big games.

:16:37. > :16:38.After falling out of the Football League, the club unsuccessftlly

:16:39. > :16:46.tried to join the Scottish League. Gateshead's decline continudd ` even

:16:47. > :16:50.Redheugh Park fell into disrepair. The club was eventually liqtidated

:16:51. > :16:52.in 1973. Gateshead's future looked bleak

:16:53. > :16:58.until former Sunderland Vice`Chairman Wood took over in

:16:59. > :17:01.2006. The family has followed Sunderland

:17:02. > :17:04.and Gateshead, but my preference right from the beginning has been

:17:05. > :17:07.Gateshead, so that's my first love. We lost probably two generation of

:17:08. > :17:11.support between getting kicked out of the league and getting to where

:17:12. > :17:14.we are today, because they had a rough time throughout the 70s and

:17:15. > :17:22.throughout the 60s and 70, but certainly there is enough potential

:17:23. > :17:25.here to get the crowds back. They turned professional fotr years

:17:26. > :17:31.ago, and now the appointment of former York boss Gary Mills has

:17:32. > :17:34.aided Gateshead's resurrecthon. Well, obviously he deserves all of

:17:35. > :17:37.the credit, because he's done a tremendous job. He's widely

:17:38. > :17:40.recognised as one of the best managers certainly in non`ldague

:17:41. > :17:44.football, and I think he wotld be one of the best managers, or he will

:17:45. > :17:48.be one of the best managers in the Football League. You can sed why

:17:49. > :17:52.when you work with him. Verx talented manager.

:17:53. > :17:56.The Chairman's dream of a rdturn to the Football League could ydt be

:17:57. > :17:58.realised, but can the club survive promotion?

:17:59. > :18:01.To get promoted is going to be worth an extra ?1 million a season in

:18:02. > :18:04.income for Gateshead. A good proportion of that will be spent on

:18:05. > :18:07.the squad. Gateshead stand on the brink of

:18:08. > :18:10.making history, driven by two men determined to put the club back on

:18:11. > :18:21.the football map. Across Gateshead third in the

:18:22. > :18:25.league. I heard your chairm`n there say people getting into the Premier

:18:26. > :18:31.League is the biggest game but getting intothe Football Le`gue ?1

:18:32. > :18:34.million. That is massive for a club like Gateshead. It is huge, it means

:18:35. > :18:38.the difference between attr`cting players from round the country, it

:18:39. > :18:43.is not easy for us to get players to come from the south, up north on the

:18:44. > :18:47.money that we can afford to pay so that money would be massive to go

:18:48. > :18:51.towards strengthening the spuad if and when we get into that Ldague

:18:52. > :18:55.Two. We mentioned the long time Gateshead have been waiting. Have

:18:56. > :18:59.the club ever had a better opportunity? It is not going to be

:19:00. > :19:02.easy, but it has to be one of the best opportunities like you say in a

:19:03. > :19:05.long time. For the club to get there, after 54 years would be

:19:06. > :19:10.brilliant, you know. It is good for the North East in general, but even

:19:11. > :19:15.so, it is going to be magnificent. If you can get in the play`offs we

:19:16. > :19:19.had your manager here, he h`s been this route before, he has won the

:19:20. > :19:23.play`off final, how important could that be? You need experiencd in

:19:24. > :19:27.whatever you are doing in lhfe. The manager has been there, seen it

:19:28. > :19:31.done it, he has the T`shirt, he will know what to expect. He trids to

:19:32. > :19:36.keep everybody's feet on thd ground and on a daily basis he does little

:19:37. > :19:41.things that you don't normally get from managers, and he is quhrky in

:19:42. > :19:47.something as random as taking us something as random as taking us

:19:48. > :19:52.tenpin bowling. It is the Brian Clough influence, you can't get away

:19:53. > :19:56.from it Maybe Gus Poyet might have do something like that! Of course,

:19:57. > :20:00.people remember you playing for three different Premier League club,

:20:01. > :20:04.signing for Everton, playing for Wales, from the Premier League to

:20:05. > :20:08.non`league does that show you have as much hunger as your stagd of your

:20:09. > :20:12.career? Yes, you preesh matd more when you are old, I am getthng to

:20:13. > :20:16.the latter stages of my carder, you want to play as long as you can as

:20:17. > :20:21.long as your body allows yot to you, like I say you appreci`te it

:20:22. > :20:24.more, and you go out and yot never know when your next training session

:20:25. > :20:30.is going to be,out have to dnjoyment as much as you can. You two were

:20:31. > :20:34.team`mates at Doncaster, anx secrets to share? Well, it is no secret he

:20:35. > :20:37.is into his fashion, becausd he is looking very smart tonight. There

:20:38. > :20:44.was a battle between you two before we came on, I have to veal that Not

:20:45. > :20:52.revealing who has won. Underneath there is a few tattoos as wdll.

:20:53. > :20:56.So... Really? He, some people call him the artistic man. He has a lot

:20:57. > :21:02.under there. Didn't inshire you It doesn't suit me. On a more serious

:21:03. > :21:06.note. We are talking about Gateshead getting into the lead. They are

:21:07. > :21:10.starting the same with Sunddrland next season, that has to be good for

:21:11. > :21:14.the area, the bigger clubs helping the smaller clubs. It is grdat

:21:15. > :21:18.Newcastle and Sunderland have done that. It is great if the fans could

:21:19. > :21:22.mix in and get behind Gateshead they are a rare success story in the

:21:23. > :21:25.North East. If you want to see a winning team, the bigger te`ms

:21:26. > :21:29.aren't winning at the moment. That is the place to be. We wish you the

:21:30. > :21:35.west for the rest of the se`son Now, across the country round 1 5

:21:36. > :21:38.million people play football every But at grassroots level the game has

:21:39. > :21:41.a serious problem, and to m`ke matters worse, Sport England has

:21:42. > :21:44.just announced that it's reducing the amount of funding it gives to

:21:45. > :21:47.the game. Week. We'll be he`ring from former Middlesbrough mhdfielder

:21:48. > :21:50.Neil Maddison shortly, but first here's a special report frol former

:21:51. > :21:53.Sunderland and Republic of Hreland winger, and BBC pundit Kevin

:21:54. > :21:56.Kilbane. Unbelievably, football is no longer

:21:57. > :22:04.the top participant sport in this country. More people nowadaxs prefer

:22:05. > :22:07.to run, swim or cycle. Playdr numbers are in decline, and in many

:22:08. > :22:09.places facilities are shockhng. Junior football still has the

:22:10. > :22:13.ongoing issue of overaggressive parents, and many still question the

:22:14. > :22:18.way we coach our kids. Make no mistake, the grass roots gale is in

:22:19. > :22:25.big trouble Enjoy that game boys? Good. Playing well. Kenny S`unders

:22:26. > :22:29.is the manager of Woolton FC, which has 62 junior teams. He's l`unched a

:22:30. > :22:35.campaign to save grass roots football. Grass roots footb`ll is in

:22:36. > :22:38.massive danger of folding whthin the next five or ten years. There's

:22:39. > :22:41.massive, massive big problels out there, you know, right from funding

:22:42. > :22:47.to grass roots coaching, to parents, Respect campaigns. There's lany

:22:48. > :22:50.many issues out there at thd moment. Although Woolton have addressed the

:22:51. > :22:57.issue of pushy parents on the touchline, not everybody else has.

:22:58. > :23:01.That's a yellow card, ref, card him. Yellow card him, ref. He's `n

:23:02. > :23:04.animal. Give him a yellow c`rd, You're an animal. He deservds a

:23:05. > :23:07.card. Constantly shouting instruction is counter prodtctive,

:23:08. > :23:11.but we do want that noise and support, that's what young people

:23:12. > :23:14.want to be there. A parent wouldn't shout at their child during a piano

:23:15. > :23:18.lesson, black key, white kex, white key, black key, so what we're trying

:23:19. > :23:22.to work out is a right level of support for those young people. What

:23:23. > :23:25.we are doing now is providing the right level of coaching for the

:23:26. > :23:28.right coach in the right environment. It's a ten year

:23:29. > :23:32.journey, and I believe we'rd well on the way to delivering a world class

:23:33. > :23:35.coaching system, and I feel within ten years we'll be seeing the fruits

:23:36. > :23:38.of that labour. WHile the ctlture of the grass roots game may be

:23:39. > :23:42.changing, there's still one huge cloud on the horizon. Funding. With

:23:43. > :23:44.council cut backs and even Sport England cutting its financi`l

:23:45. > :23:49.support, amateur clubs need to know who's going to help them survive. We

:23:50. > :23:52.have to get the Premier League, the Football League, we have to get

:23:53. > :23:54.Governments, Councils, everxone who is responsible for grass roots

:23:55. > :23:58.football, and can improve grass roots football, we need thel round

:23:59. > :24:02.the table and we need them round now.

:24:03. > :24:05.Former Middlesbrough midfielder Neil Maddison now runs the Premidr Player

:24:06. > :24:11.Football Academy on Teessidd. Here's his take on the subject of

:24:12. > :24:15.grassroots football in our region. We have ten players, one co`ch, yso

:24:16. > :24:19.ou get a lot of detail into the players, as much as you can. Go on,

:24:20. > :24:23.good turns, good turns. Hey guys, that is really good. I think if you

:24:24. > :24:27.give the players loads of encouragement they respond to it. If

:24:28. > :24:30.you keep on hitting a player with "That's not good enough," they won't

:24:31. > :24:34.respond to you. So loads of encouragement and that 1% is can we

:24:35. > :24:37.be a little bit better at cdrtain things? We understand somethmes that

:24:38. > :24:40.other people haven't got thd facilities, the equipment wd use.

:24:41. > :24:43.It's difficult at times. Yot really have to push away from it, OK. Grass

:24:44. > :24:47.roots football is absolutelx paramount in where we want to go,

:24:48. > :24:51.and hopefully in a few years time maybe we will be on par with Spain,

:24:52. > :25:01.with Holland, just how good they have done it. If we can copx them,

:25:02. > :25:05.so be it. Very topical across the regions, how important do you feel

:25:06. > :25:08.at the moment the funding for grass roots football? ? For me personally

:25:09. > :25:14.it's a really important isste and close to my heart, because H came

:25:15. > :25:17.from Devon, which isn't a particularly hotbed for football, so

:25:18. > :25:22.without grass roots football I don't think I would be a professional so

:25:23. > :25:28.it allowed me to move up through the rank, through the leagues and get

:25:29. > :25:31.spotted, basically. So, yes, it is massively important, and we need to

:25:32. > :25:35.be getting up there as well on an international level. You look at

:25:36. > :25:40.some the continental styles of coach, they are way ahead of us if

:25:41. > :25:45.we get closer to that we might see more success at World Cups. Let us

:25:46. > :25:49.finish with Twitter questions. Thank you for your response stripdia

:25:50. > :25:53.Twitter. Some Sunderland colment, Claire says terrible tonight. We

:25:54. > :25:57.should have had a penalty btt it doesn't make up for the terrible

:25:58. > :26:02.passes and decisions made. Chris says shocking line up, we are down

:26:03. > :26:06.now. Pauline says if Sunderland do go down have they the perfect

:26:07. > :26:11.manager with Championship experience. Yes, he is the perfect

:26:12. > :26:15.man for the job. He is the hdeal candidate to take them strahght back

:26:16. > :26:20.up, so I don't think they nded to worry too much if that does come to

:26:21. > :26:27.that, but he is the perfect man for me. Few Gateshead fans have been in

:26:28. > :26:31.touch. John says if Gateshe`d do get promoted where would it rank in your

:26:32. > :26:35.career achievements? It is tp there. Doesn't matter what division you are

:26:36. > :26:40.in, any kind of promotion is a real achievement, so even though we

:26:41. > :26:44.achieved something special with Reading, this will still be as good,

:26:45. > :26:47.you know, because it is least expected of us to get out of this

:26:48. > :26:53.division. John says would you be good to go in the Football League if

:26:54. > :26:58.they went up? Leg still goes OK As long as me legs are going, xes,

:26:59. > :27:03.hopefully. Simon, what changes do you think need to be made at

:27:04. > :27:08.Newcastle? First the Mike Ashley spelling out what his ambithons are.

:27:09. > :27:11.They need two strikers which won't come cheap. A creative midfheld e

:27:12. > :27:15.they have to get that right and spend big money. That is wh`t they

:27:16. > :27:19.have to do this summer, othdrwise they could be vulnerable next year,

:27:20. > :27:23.I know they are sitting comfortable in eighth or ninth place, if you

:27:24. > :27:31.don't find a goal scorer yot can find yourself in trouble at the

:27:32. > :27:37.bottom. What impact has Crahg Hignett made since he came back to

:27:38. > :27:40.Middlesbrough. He was doing coaching beforehand, he has been excdllent

:27:41. > :27:45.since he has come in, he has given us a lift. He has so much

:27:46. > :27:49.enthusiasm, so, I think he was the perfect candidate and I am so

:27:50. > :27:57.pleased he is there, becausd he is a great guy.

:27:58. > :28:00.Thanks to George, John and Simon, and thanks to you for getting

:28:01. > :28:02.involved via Twitter tonight. Keep your questions, comments and

:28:03. > :28:06.videotape requests coming dtring the week. Tonight we delve into the

:28:07. > :28:18.archives to bring you the bdst of Pop Robson. Goodnight.

:28:19. > :28:40.Robson, what a goal. Robson. Beautifully taken!

:28:41. > :28:48.Davis again. Goal. Robson.
