:00:09. > :00:19.happen to think it is the best. Welcome to a brand new series of

:00:19. > :00:31.

:00:31. > :00:41.Get closer to the managers than you have ever been. See what you should

:00:41. > :00:41.

:00:42. > :00:51.not see at your local Football League club. Get it moving! Could

:00:52. > :01:05.

:01:05. > :01:10.Coming up: Preston go westerly. We are all over the Deepdale debut of

:01:11. > :01:16.the club's new man. Happy anniversary! One year in

:01:16. > :01:22.charge and Burnley on the charge. And do you know this man? I thought

:01:22. > :01:26.not. But don't miss his amazing story.

:01:26. > :01:31.It is great to be back. We are here until the end of the season with

:01:31. > :01:36.action, guests and special features every week. With me in our brand

:01:36. > :01:43.new studio is Oldham City manager at Paul Dickov and another guest.

:01:43. > :01:48.We will have time to chat shortly. And find out what these have got to

:01:48. > :01:52.do with our Football League teams. It is like the end of Close

:01:52. > :01:56.Encounter as! On the first show of our last

:01:56. > :02:00.series, we reported on another new start for Preston North End. The

:02:00. > :02:06.Phil Brown era was just under way. The team were battling to stay in

:02:06. > :02:13.the championship. On Saturday, the New Era began but the new manager

:02:13. > :02:17.is fighting hard to make an impression in League One. Our Sarah

:02:17. > :02:22.asked some questions about him. A clear, bright morning and

:02:22. > :02:26.Deepdale and the weather said the mood. A new appointment for Preston

:02:26. > :02:32.North End with the club are hoping for a clear, bright future. The man

:02:32. > :02:37.charged with this is Graham Westley. After a week of rumour, speculation

:02:37. > :02:40.and gossip it was all made official on. Peter Ridsdale was happy he got

:02:40. > :02:47.his number one target he was honoured to be approached by the

:02:47. > :02:52.club. I remember walking into this stadium. I have had to do a lot of

:02:52. > :02:59.work to get to know the football clubs. The minute I walked in, I

:02:59. > :03:03.thought, "while! What a place. What is a club like this to ring in

:03:03. > :03:08.League One?". I thought that if the opportunity arose, it would be the

:03:08. > :03:12.kind of place I would want to come. That may be the case but if the

:03:12. > :03:18.club is such -- with the club under such financial pressure, is the

:03:18. > :03:22.manager worried about his budget? Income is reduced significantly.

:03:22. > :03:27.You have to cut your cloth accordingly. Don't underestimate

:03:27. > :03:35.the resources that are available. When I was at Stevenage, we were on

:03:35. > :03:40.a fraction of what is available to me here. I do not feel constrained.

:03:40. > :03:45.For the chairman, Graham Westley's task is simple. Win as many matches

:03:45. > :03:50.as we can. If we are in the top six, that will be a tremendous

:03:50. > :03:55.achievement. If not, we will decide what we have to do in the summer to

:03:55. > :03:59.make sure we are in the top two all the top six. The aim is very clear

:03:59. > :04:04.- Championship football here as soon as possible. Managers Topping

:04:04. > :04:09.and changing must be a pressure. If you win football matches, you tend

:04:09. > :04:12.to stay at football clubs. I like winning football matches. The club

:04:12. > :04:17.said that they want a manager who can win matches and I am prepared

:04:17. > :04:23.to have a go. All the formalities are over and everyone knows Graham

:04:23. > :04:28.Westley is the man in charge. In two ours' time, he will take a seat

:04:28. > :04:32.here and will have 90 minutes to consider the task in hand. It is

:04:32. > :04:38.going to be the most frustrating afternoon of my life, sitting in

:04:38. > :04:46.the directors' box. I am sure they will hear me, even though I have no

:04:46. > :04:52.right to speak today. The reason is that his predecessors were in the

:04:52. > :04:58.dug-out. He will be South speaking to them about their futures this

:04:58. > :05:02.week. He will bring a freshness to the team. They have been going a

:05:02. > :05:06.little bit stale. We have some young players, some good young

:05:06. > :05:11.players. If he can bring a bit of quality, to bring those players on,

:05:11. > :05:15.we will go forward. I was disappointed with the appointment.

:05:15. > :05:20.Too much long-ball football for me with him to. It is not my style of

:05:20. > :05:26.football. I probably won't be here next season. We are just hoping we

:05:26. > :05:31.can get further up. Even if we have to get it in play-offs, which we

:05:31. > :05:35.don't want, but if we cannot, let's hope we do it. There was still a

:05:35. > :05:45.game against Wigan to play and it looked as if the events of the week

:05:45. > :05:49.

:05:49. > :05:54.one back before the break. A half- time pep talk and a more composed

:05:54. > :06:01.and it emerged. Scoring a second goal in his second game, this

:06:01. > :06:10.player put Preston ahead. Paul Parry gave them a two goal cushion.

:06:10. > :06:18.But it was not enough. A second goal for Trotter made the final

:06:18. > :06:21.winner a home win for Preston North We have concentrated on the

:06:22. > :06:26.professionalism of the players and ourselves and I hope we took that

:06:26. > :06:31.into the game. There are worse things to deal with in life, and

:06:31. > :06:36.this is just a game. What about yourself? Any special coping

:06:36. > :06:43.mechanisms, David? Turn the computer off and don't watch the TV.

:06:43. > :06:48.Have a few drinks. I am a Preston lad and Graham is a legend at this

:06:48. > :06:53.football club so it is good to be part and parcel of it. We thank

:06:53. > :06:58.everybody for all the support. Paul, what do you make of Graham

:06:58. > :07:02.Westley? You have come up against him. What do you make of him?

:07:02. > :07:06.has done a phenomenal job at Stevenage. They have had promotions

:07:07. > :07:11.and even when they were in on me, they got promotions there. His team

:07:11. > :07:17.are very organised and they work very hard. Speaking to him after we

:07:17. > :07:20.played them, he is so focused and what he wants to do. He has his

:07:20. > :07:24.businesses in Stevenage but he was obviously swayed when he saw

:07:24. > :07:28.Deepdale. The easy option would have been to stay at Stevenage.

:07:28. > :07:32.There's not much expected of him this season. The performances they

:07:32. > :07:37.have had have been second to none. They are pushing on the top six. He

:07:37. > :07:41.has shown he is hungry and wants to test himself, not at a higher level

:07:41. > :07:45.but at a bigger club. The press and boys will have to make sure they

:07:45. > :07:49.work their socks off. He took his first training session this morning.

:07:49. > :07:54.What does he say when he goes in? They may not have much money to

:07:54. > :07:59.bring in new players. How does he galvanise them? Bring them onside

:07:59. > :08:02.straight away and let her them know what he expects of them. We have

:08:02. > :08:05.seen at Stevenage that he can get results each week and they will

:08:05. > :08:11.have to be prepared to work hard because the one thing Stevenage did

:08:11. > :08:14.was work their socks off. The fans' talking about long-ball football -

:08:14. > :08:20.I doubt that they got the credit last year but this year, they have

:08:20. > :08:24.scored a lot of good goals. It is perhaps a bit of a myth. Time will

:08:25. > :08:28.tell on the pitch. In the dressing room, Preston have had four

:08:28. > :08:35.managers in three seasons. How do players cope with that kind of

:08:35. > :08:39.turnover? I think, as a player, no matter who your manager is coy you

:08:39. > :08:43.do it for yourself. But there was a period at Rochdale where I went

:08:43. > :08:47.through a number of managers in a short space of time, but it gives

:08:47. > :08:50.everybody a lift. You have another manager and you want to impress

:08:50. > :08:56.them. Even players who have not been involved in the game's very

:08:56. > :09:00.much, it gives them a lift. More from the boys in a second. You can

:09:00. > :09:08.see more Sarah's interview with Graham Westley and Peter Ridsdale

:09:08. > :09:14.on our Facebook side. There will be more from this man, as well. Happy

:09:14. > :09:18.anniversary, Eddie Howe! With just two years experience, he took over

:09:18. > :09:28.as manager at Burnley and was seen as the right man to lead them back

:09:28. > :09:42.

:09:42. > :09:47.to the big time. How does he think A young manager with big ambitions,

:09:47. > :09:52.and increasing hopes of reaching them. One year in, how does Eddie

:09:52. > :09:57.Howe sum up his first 12 months in charge? Good question. It has been

:09:58. > :10:01.really enjoyable. Tough. I think it has been a difficult year in many

:10:01. > :10:05.senses, because they have been a lot of changes that the club. But

:10:05. > :10:11.we are looking for would be positively to the end of the season

:10:11. > :10:15.and future seasons. Burnley are just off the play-off places. Are

:10:15. > :10:21.you aware of way you wanted to be at this stage? Not really. We

:10:21. > :10:27.wanted to be top of the league. you happy with where you are at the

:10:27. > :10:30.moment? I have said before that we need to continue with the decent

:10:30. > :10:34.results we have had lately and if we can do that, we will have every

:10:34. > :10:38.chance of achieving something this year. The next 10 days will be

:10:38. > :10:42.crucial. Have there been times way you have thought that this was not

:10:42. > :10:47.for a year, when things have not been going great? I don't think I

:10:47. > :10:50.have ever felt that. There have been tough days, but I think that

:10:50. > :10:55.makes you stronger to succeed and more determined to prove people

:10:55. > :10:59.wrong. I have always held that belief. You, and walk away from

:10:59. > :11:03.tough situations. I am desperate for success here and I want the

:11:03. > :11:07.fans to be happy. I want to try and leave a legacy, in whatever job I

:11:07. > :11:11.do, that is positive. How has becoming a dad changed your outlook

:11:11. > :11:19.on things? I don't think it has changed my outlook too much on this

:11:19. > :11:23.job. In your personal life, it changes your focus slightly. When I

:11:23. > :11:28.get to see him, I enjoy spending time with him. It is just that it

:11:28. > :11:32.is very few and far between at the moment. Is he going to be a Burnley

:11:32. > :11:37.fan? Are you getting him into football at quite a young age?

:11:37. > :11:41.he has no choice on that. That is a given! He will pick and choose his

:11:41. > :11:51.team is very wisely but we will push him into our collars and her

:11:51. > :11:53.

:11:53. > :12:01.people take to it. It is a good scorer, they doubled their lead

:12:01. > :12:07.through another player with a winner that is due to beat Eddie

:12:07. > :12:13.effect. This the first or second loss all season, which is fantastic.

:12:13. > :12:17.We have all come in, we know our roles and responsibilities. All

:12:17. > :12:25.credit goes to the boss for building a team like that. We are

:12:26. > :12:28.starting to creep up slowly. We are in the top six. You are one of the

:12:28. > :12:37.longest-serving managers now in 12 months. That is quite a long time

:12:37. > :12:41.Everyone has talked about the year in charge and I think that is an

:12:41. > :12:45.achievement. It is getting quite precarious, the job, and I want to

:12:45. > :12:55.try and stay for another year. If we can do that, we will have had

:12:55. > :12:58.

:12:58. > :13:02.Let us have a quick look at Saturday's action. Let us look at

:13:02. > :13:12.Saturday's action. Let us look at Saturday's action. Let us look at

:13:12. > :13:18.the last two bowls. It is a great ball. Kevin Phillips there. He has

:13:18. > :13:27.been doing this weekend, week out. That is why we brought him into the

:13:27. > :13:33.club. Ipswich are struggling, but to come back from a 20--- 2-0 down

:13:33. > :13:43.is a brilliant. It says a lot about the character of. You said you

:13:43. > :13:46.

:13:46. > :13:50.spoke to the boys. How are you? am good. I am back in training.

:13:50. > :13:58.Hope for you, back in contention. What is the mood that thing that --

:13:58. > :14:04.what is the mood at Blackpool? went on a 10 game unbeaten run, so

:14:04. > :14:10.I don't see why we can't do it again. Your manager, really popular.

:14:10. > :14:20.Not so much in the public eye, though. I think it is all to do

:14:20. > :14:20.

:14:20. > :14:27.with the media coverage. I think it is more that. He never shuts up

:14:27. > :14:35.anyway! Palace at home next Saturday? Yes, it is a tough game.

:14:35. > :14:45.We played them at the start of the season, and drew 1-1. In every game,

:14:45. > :14:48.

:14:48. > :14:53.it is a tough one. It will be no different on Saturday. Good stuff.

:14:53. > :15:03.Matthew is an ordinary fan, by the wave. Both of our teams are still

:15:03. > :15:08.

:15:08. > :15:16.in the championship. We have got an One of League 1's unpleasant

:15:16. > :15:21.surprises has been at Bury. They can feel a bit hard done by against

:15:21. > :15:31.the side that started Saturday in second. It was a complete game that

:15:31. > :15:34.

:15:34. > :15:41.change. But, don't despair! It is are all brand new feature. Tonight,

:15:41. > :15:48.to midfield men battle it out to be crowned a brain of Bury. First up,

:15:48. > :15:54.Stephen Schumacher. His favourite film is Notting Hill. And Peter

:15:54. > :16:04.Sweeney, who knows all the dance moves to Michael Jackson's thriller.

:16:04. > :16:12.

:16:12. > :16:22.Who plays their home games? Bar so loner. Who is the manager of Notts

:16:22. > :16:23.

:16:23. > :16:33.County? What is the club's phone number? If you know the answer to

:16:33. > :16:36.

:16:36. > :16:46.that... 7644881. Who was the presidents of the United States

:16:46. > :16:47.

:16:47. > :16:57.before... Before Barack Obama? George Bush. Which city is Andrew

:16:57. > :16:59.

:16:59. > :17:09.Flintoff from? Leeds. Is it? I know he's a Yorkshireman. Who is the

:17:09. > :17:16.biggest a moaner in the dressing room? Schumacher. Which Scottish-

:17:16. > :17:26.born player has the middle name, Henry? Me! Who came second in the

:17:26. > :17:36.most recent series of Iron Age celebrity. -- I am a celebrity?

:17:36. > :17:42.

:17:42. > :17:52.I know this. Mark. Which sport did the Cleveland Browns played? Third

:17:52. > :18:00.

:18:01. > :18:10.ball. We have got a few clever boys this

:18:11. > :18:12.

:18:12. > :18:22.year - for example, at Matt Smith. Who would you avoid that Blackpool?

:18:22. > :18:23.

:18:23. > :18:30.Ian. I expected you to say that. wouldn't say we are the most clever.

:18:30. > :18:40.We have a lot of foreign boys. Maybe a subtitle should come to

:18:40. > :18:43.

:18:43. > :18:48.Blackpool!! In League 1, it was awful. If there

:18:48. > :18:58.is any consolation at all, the Tranmere supporters had it even

:18:58. > :19:08.Tranmere supporters had it even worse awaited yokel. -- Yeovil.

:19:08. > :19:12.Taking a point back would have been acceptable. Sticking with the theme,

:19:12. > :19:21.it could be worse for Tranmere Rovers - they could have been

:19:21. > :19:31.supporting Rochdale. They were two down. It was one of those at days,

:19:31. > :19:37.

:19:37. > :19:47.Not a great day. Your guys neo- liberal the top at Huddersfield. --

:19:47. > :19:51.

:19:51. > :19:58.really upon the top. We defended very well. We were devastated

:19:58. > :20:04.afterwards. We put him at such a good performance will start you

:20:04. > :20:10.have had a difficult 12 months, haven't you? Then there was a third

:20:10. > :20:20.business about players not being played. Are you moving forward?

:20:20. > :20:23.

:20:23. > :20:33.is a big pink us. We asked -- big thing. We have got a smaller squad

:20:33. > :20:34.

:20:34. > :20:41.this here. We had a fantastic day at Anfield. You have got the

:20:41. > :20:50.northern final, haven't you, against Chesterfield? There is a

:20:50. > :20:57.pitch inspection tomorrow at 2 o'clock. If it is called of

:20:57. > :21:07.tomorrow, is there a chance of Wednesday? Hope for lethal stop --

:21:07. > :21:09.

:21:09. > :21:15.hope elite. We have got a backlog of games coming up. You Minch --

:21:15. > :21:22.you mentioned the Liverpool game. Do you work through your

:21:22. > :21:27.frustrations? Do you manage to keep brokers? I am focused. I love my

:21:27. > :21:35.job. I am working for a very good people. The fan base is coming back

:21:35. > :21:42.as well. It has been really good for me. When you are a player, you

:21:42. > :21:48.don't realise half the things that go on. You also serving up tea and

:21:48. > :21:57.sandwiches for the fans queuing up? Yes, some of the plans had been

:21:57. > :22:07.there since 4am, so we made them a few coffee is. More in a second.

:22:07. > :22:11.

:22:11. > :22:18.Press don't look well placed. -- Preston it looked well-placed.

:22:18. > :22:25.Viewers from last season it may remember the story of Jack Reynolds,

:22:25. > :22:30.a manager from a tiny team. He was not our only forgotten hero.

:22:30. > :22:40.Another inspired the famous Hungarian thrashing of England in

:22:40. > :22:53.

:22:53. > :22:58.the 1950s. Andy Johnson has been That defeat caused shockwaves

:22:58. > :23:03.throughout the world. England had never been beaten at Wembley. Yet

:23:03. > :23:09.few people realise that the architect of that wonderful

:23:09. > :23:15.football played by the Hungarian team was a man from Lancaster. He

:23:15. > :23:20.was born just a few miles from here. Few in England have heard of this

:23:20. > :23:27.man, but in Hungary and Europe, he is credited of being the father of

:23:27. > :23:33.fast, skilful football. He played for Burnley, but had an

:23:33. > :23:37.international reputation as a coach. The more I read about him, the more

:23:37. > :23:43.I realised just how prominent he had become as a coach in Europe,

:23:43. > :23:49.and how his methods had not been accepted at all. He lost his way in

:23:49. > :23:53.this country completely, and had to make his living abroad.

:23:53. > :24:03.Jimmy Hogan began his trip in Holland, and went on to influence

:24:03. > :24:22.

:24:22. > :24:28.Not all of his disciples came from a European football. Two of them

:24:28. > :24:34.became part of the north-west's football folklore. Thomas Dougherty

:24:34. > :24:44.was a young player in Celtic in the 1940s when Jimmy Hogan are coached

:24:44. > :24:56.

:24:56. > :25:05.in Glasgow. One, 2, 3, pass, a move. Jimmy Hogan was in his 70s when he

:25:05. > :25:10.coached Ron. He was revolutionary. He would have you in the car park,

:25:10. > :25:16.and he would tell us to play it with the inside of our right foot,

:25:16. > :25:22.inside of the left foot, and then he would get you doing a step overs

:25:22. > :25:28.and turns and twists. Everything he did was to make you comfortable

:25:28. > :25:33.with the ball. After that Wembley humiliation came the inevitable

:25:33. > :25:40.backlash - the English press clamoured a Hogan. The FA it never

:25:41. > :25:49.called. They were not prepared to accept the fact that what he did

:25:49. > :25:59.was appropriate. I can't say more than that, really. He was

:25:59. > :25:59.

:25:59. > :26:04.responsible, in his own way, a broad, for football. Jimmy Hogan

:26:04. > :26:10.died in Burnley in 1974, it largely unknown to the British footballing

:26:10. > :26:19.public. But to the Hungarians, he was a legend. They said, we played

:26:19. > :26:24.football as he told us. And his name should be written in gold

:26:24. > :26:29.letters. The FA never called. Accrington

:26:29. > :26:39.fans were cut on Saturday morning, buoyed by their team's state as.

:26:39. > :26:45.
