:00:00. > :00:08.Good evening. This team went into the weekend sliding towards
:00:09. > :00:11.relegation, this one kicked off knowing they could be promoted, and
:00:12. > :00:15.the manager of Bolton Wanderers knew he was due on this sofa tonight,
:00:16. > :00:29.talk about pressure. Welcome to Late Kick Off.
:00:30. > :00:33.Coming up on tonight's Late Kick Off...
:00:34. > :00:36.Glad all over, we are on the road with Blackpool for the best day in
:00:37. > :00:41.five months. First time we have scored two goals
:00:42. > :00:43.since November, over the moon. Up the Dale, the Late Kick Off
:00:44. > :00:51.cameras catch the celebrations. And talking Bolton, Wanderers boss
:00:52. > :01:05.Dougie Freedman is our studio guest. What a weekend. Here with me
:01:06. > :01:08.tonight, you have already seen him, the Bolton boss, Dougie Freedman,
:01:09. > :01:12.alongside him a man who scored over 100 goals as a player and manager
:01:13. > :01:17.with Oldham Athletic, Andy Ritchie. More from the boys in just a minute.
:01:18. > :01:21.With massive relegation fears and another week of warring between
:01:22. > :01:23.owners the Oystons and a section of supporters the last thing many
:01:24. > :01:32.Blackpool fns expected on Saturday was the feel`good day of the season.
:01:33. > :01:34.But up against promotion contenders Wigan they produced their best
:01:35. > :01:38.performance in months, delighting their travelling army of fanatical
:01:39. > :01:43.fans. Ian Haslam was there to see the DW Stadium turn tangerine.
:01:44. > :01:45.Recent key plotlines in the ongoing Blackpool soap opera have included
:01:46. > :01:52.turmoil, Tangerines and tennis balls.
:01:53. > :01:58.Missiles thrown onto the pitch, the far side. However, Monday's good
:01:59. > :02:03.points at Brighton suggested whatever is happening off the pitch,
:02:04. > :02:07.hope remained on it. Especially when backed by around 4,000 supporters.
:02:08. > :02:12.In an apparent peacemaking gesture the club offered season`ticket
:02:13. > :02:15.holders free tickets to the game. I think it is a good idea, getting
:02:16. > :02:18.4,000 fans there today, the tangerine army making a load of
:02:19. > :02:25.noise supporting the team, will hopefully inspire them to a good
:02:26. > :02:29.result. Want to go down there and win so we don't go to League 1 next
:02:30. > :02:32.season. We have got this big game, really nervous. I am quite
:02:33. > :02:40.optimistic, I don't think we are going to go down.
:02:41. > :02:43.I don't know if today is a must win, that will be determined on how other
:02:44. > :02:46.results go today. Certainly Blackpool could get a victory today
:02:47. > :02:52.and get it into their own hands for the last day of the season, they
:02:53. > :02:54.would strongly fancy their chances. A potentially fascinating 90 minutes
:02:55. > :02:58.ahead, one Northwest side looking for the win that will guarantee them
:02:59. > :02:59.a play`off place, the other going for three points that might just
:03:00. > :03:42.keep them in this division. What more can you ask for? Coming
:03:43. > :03:46.here, winning 2`0, fantastic. That is the best performance for a long,
:03:47. > :03:53.long time. The first time we have scored two goals since November,
:03:54. > :03:58.over the moon. They will stay up if they get it next year, we support
:03:59. > :04:06.the team. The best game of the season. We have stayed up. Come on!
:04:07. > :04:11.Well deserved win today, a vital time to get a win. The fans singing
:04:12. > :04:16.we are staying up, are you? We have got a big game next week. I
:04:17. > :04:19.am not going to get carried away, it was a great performance, a great
:04:20. > :04:23.team effort. A hard game against Charlton next week. The fans were
:04:24. > :04:27.brilliant, they're backed you all the way, it was about the team on
:04:28. > :04:31.the pitch. It was fantastic to see them all
:04:32. > :04:35.there, what a great day. That does give us a lift as well, hopefully
:04:36. > :04:40.next week they can be as loud and as vocal as they were today. I was a
:04:41. > :04:44.proud man standing at the touchline. I am delighted for the group of
:04:45. > :04:47.boys, they have come in for a bit of criticism about their effort and
:04:48. > :04:51.commitment. I think you have seen that in the last three games, what
:04:52. > :04:56.it really means for them to play for Blackpool.
:04:57. > :05:05.Don't adjust your set, he really was tangerine.
:05:06. > :05:09.A look at the bottom of the Championship table shows Blackpool
:05:10. > :05:12.within touching distance of safety, ironically Wigan could all but
:05:13. > :05:15.secure it for them tomorrow night. The Seasiders will be all but
:05:16. > :05:19.mathematically safe if the Latics win at Birmingham, a victory will
:05:20. > :05:21.also confirm their place in the play`offs. Bolton host Birmingham on
:05:22. > :05:25.Saturday, while the Seasiders have what could still be a crunch clash
:05:26. > :05:28.with Charlton. Wigan finish the regular season at Rovers who still
:05:29. > :05:31.have slim play`off hopes themselves. There should be another promotion
:05:32. > :05:35.party for Burnley fans at Reading, more on Burnley in just a second.
:05:36. > :05:45.What an amazing result after the soap opera that has gone on. It is
:05:46. > :05:48.an amazing season for them. The big roller`coaster, and there is one in
:05:49. > :05:54.Blackpool, pardon the pun. What an amazing result. Don't think anybody
:05:55. > :05:58.saw that coming. It was a really good performance. The goalkeeper
:05:59. > :06:03.saving the penalty, that set them up and they went on from there. He is a
:06:04. > :06:07.great keeper. Carl Oyston said Barry had done a great job, a chance for
:06:08. > :06:10.them to have a fresh start next season, the board making gestures
:06:11. > :06:20.towards the fans, calming gestures, to try and sort it out. That is all
:06:21. > :06:25.they can hope for. They have got to make a big decision. If they manage
:06:26. > :06:29.to stay up, and they have taken a giant step with that result, they
:06:30. > :06:33.have got to make their decision, do we have a fresh start, bring
:06:34. > :06:36.somebody new in, or do we stick with Barry and go for it next season?
:06:37. > :06:40.Just want to quickly mention Wigan, they were the team informed,
:06:41. > :06:51.suddenly they are stumbling. `` in form. Have they got what it takes? I
:06:52. > :06:53.think he will get them would up and they will find themselves in the
:06:54. > :06:56.play`offs. One team that doesn't have to worry
:06:57. > :06:59.about it, Burnley had their second promotion celebration within a week
:07:00. > :07:02.having kicked off against Ipswich with next season's Permier League
:07:03. > :07:05.place already in the bag. The players received their medals for
:07:06. > :07:08.winning promotion. All this after finishing their home campaign with
:07:09. > :07:13.their 15th home win of the league season. It was Michael Kightly who
:07:14. > :07:19.scored the only goal of the game early in the second half. Danny Ings
:07:20. > :07:26.doing all the hard work. Clarets fans will have coverage of your
:07:27. > :07:29.victory parade on next week's show. Congratulations as well to the
:07:30. > :07:32.Clarets trio of Kieran Trippier, Jason Shackell and Danny Ings, all
:07:33. > :07:37.named in the PFA's Championship team of the Year. If Wigan lose at
:07:38. > :07:45.Birmingham on Tuesday Blackburn could still the play`off place that
:07:46. > :07:49.has looked a certainty. `` steal. If they beat the side of Saturday and
:07:50. > :07:54.Brighton lose. 11 games unbeaten for Blackburn who beat Charlton 3`1 at
:07:55. > :07:57.the Valley on Saturday. Sixth goal in as many games got them on their
:07:58. > :08:04.way of before Paul Robinson played his part saving a spot kick from
:08:05. > :08:10.Marvin Sordell. Michael Keane doubled robustly to converting Craig
:08:11. > :08:14.Conway 's set lead. Tom Kenny wrapped up the points just after the
:08:15. > :08:19.hour mark following efforts had been stopped on the line. The one
:08:20. > :08:22.Championship side we haven't seen tonight is the one managed by this
:08:23. > :08:54.man, Dougie Freedman. He is just about to finish
:08:55. > :08:57.player of all time. In 1996 while playing for Crystal Palace's court
:08:58. > :09:00.and 11 minute hat`trick, spells with Wolves and Nottingham Forest
:09:01. > :09:03.borrowed, before he resigned for Palace in 2000, and scored a late
:09:04. > :09:06.winner against Stockport and save the club from relegation to the
:09:07. > :09:07.third tier. He scored on his international debut against Latvia,
:09:08. > :10:24.in a World Cup team that are heading in the right
:10:25. > :10:28.direction, very hungry. You inherited a team, you have lost one
:10:29. > :10:32.out of nine, is this more the Bolton the fans can expect? The last two
:10:33. > :10:35.seasons your study poorly then turned round. The first season I
:10:36. > :10:39.wasn't here at the beginning, it was later on we finished and just missed
:10:40. > :10:42.out on goal difference. The mistakes I made in the summer was not
:10:43. > :10:45.recruiting a certain type of player, I felt the existing players would
:10:46. > :10:56.reproduce what they had done. That wasn't the case, we started very
:10:57. > :11:08.poorly. You can't look into next season, wondering what is going to
:11:09. > :11:12.happen, you have got to be positive. We got a few players out of contract
:11:13. > :11:15.which will give us a bit of breathing space financially, let us
:11:16. > :11:18.recruit the type of player and profile we need in the championship.
:11:19. > :11:22.You talk about mistakes with recruitment, did you put too much
:11:23. > :11:26.trust in the plays that were there? I felt the players deserved to be
:11:27. > :11:28.given a go, the second year in the championship, they produced
:11:29. > :11:31.wonderful moments, certainly not enough wonderful moments, and I felt
:11:32. > :11:34.they deserved to be given a go again. Now the chairman was
:11:35. > :11:36.fantastic, backed the financial commitment once again, so certain
:11:37. > :11:40.personnel let their team`mates downs. We shouldn't change around,
:11:41. > :11:49.we got a few loans in which helped us along the way, picked up certain
:11:50. > :11:52.results, the good group there. The group that want to face in the right
:11:53. > :11:56.direction, come in every day training very hard towards it. There
:11:57. > :11:59.is no secret in the championship, you have got to have the right
:12:00. > :12:02.profile in a profile, young and hungry really fits that. A certain
:12:03. > :12:12.kind of player is needed and required. How close are you to
:12:13. > :12:15.Dougie Freedman's ideal side? With this annual loss, 50 million quid,
:12:16. > :12:19.you have got to cut costs, you have had so many good players on loan
:12:20. > :12:23.this season. You going to lose all those? I will say an answer maybe
:12:24. > :12:27.everybody doesn't want to hear but I have got to have one eye is on the
:12:28. > :12:35.financial balance sheet. It is a business, I cannot see very falsely
:12:36. > :12:39.what we are going to be. Also I have got to have another eye on the
:12:40. > :12:43.playing squad and make surel we are competitive for next season. Trying
:12:44. > :12:46.to balance the books but make sure the type of player I bring in is a
:12:47. > :12:50.younger player, more potential to try and get that into the training
:12:51. > :12:54.ground the better. My first love is coaching. That is where I learnt my
:12:55. > :12:59.trade. That is what we are trying to get to. If I look at the squad these
:13:00. > :13:02.days it is a lot younger, that comes with financial benefits as well. Zac
:13:03. > :13:06.Knight, he was out of contract at the end of the season, how many of
:13:07. > :13:11.the players that start the last game may start next season? Will it be
:13:12. > :13:14.that much of a change? There will be a transition of course, that happens
:13:15. > :13:17.naturally. We have made some decisions on what we are going to do
:13:18. > :13:21.financially and certain players will be affected. We will keep the
:13:22. > :13:24.nucleus of the squad, it is at the right mentality to take the club
:13:25. > :13:27.forward. I don't want any players at Bolton who want to be here just
:13:28. > :13:31.because financial benefits or benefits them to stay around the
:13:32. > :13:36.area, I will not come over here, I want people that want to get better
:13:37. > :13:40.as players. To ask me is that team starting to be myself, over time you
:13:41. > :13:43.will get the right personnel or the management to try and pick the
:13:44. > :13:47.person that fits its own personality and that has been happening over the
:13:48. > :13:56.last three or four months. One or two of the loans have got to go
:13:57. > :13:58.back. When you do a loan move it is alone with, you know the story will
:13:59. > :14:07.be going back to his parent club. Just finally, for now, some of the
:14:08. > :14:10.fans haven't been convinced throughout the season. I don't think
:14:11. > :14:14.that's a surprise. Do you feel you are now bringing them around to your
:14:15. > :14:18.way? Listen, Bolton fans pay good money to get in to watch their team
:14:19. > :14:21.and they are entitled to their opinion and I have no problem with
:14:22. > :14:25.that and some days I have been disappointed myself, but we have to
:14:26. > :14:29.look at the whole picture and where we are and what we've had for the
:14:30. > :14:49.last ten years, fantastic success, and where we are right now. I'm not
:14:50. > :14:54.a kind of manager or coach that will go in and blow the budget, that has
:14:55. > :14:57.happened to too many teams where you have different owners who put the
:14:58. > :15:01.club in jeopardy of losing points in administration, so I tried to be
:15:02. > :15:04.honest and upfront with the fans and tell them it will be a difficult
:15:05. > :15:08.period but we will pull through and that's what we have done. So the
:15:09. > :15:11.type of football we've been playing, one or two youngsters come in, it is
:15:12. > :15:16.positive going forward, everyone wants to win the game, I'm the same,
:15:17. > :15:20.I'm a fan and want to win every game but we have to be realistic about
:15:21. > :15:24.where we're going and have a plan of how to get there and I think we've
:15:25. > :15:27.got that. OK, Dougie, thank you, thanks for your honesty. Both ends
:15:28. > :15:31.of League Two kept us captivated this season, with a couple of clubs
:15:32. > :15:34.pushing for promotion and the others all having relegation worries at one
:15:35. > :15:39.point or another. A rather special look at the top for one of our teams
:15:40. > :15:42.in a few moments, but it is at the bottom that BBC Radio Manchester's
:15:43. > :15:45.Delyth Lloyd starts her round`up of the weekend's action. Morecambe fans
:15:46. > :15:48.have endured weeks of worry as their side slid alarmingly towards the
:15:49. > :15:51.bottom two, but now they can sleep soundly after securing next season's
:15:52. > :15:55.place in the Football League. Two goals in two minutes on the stroke
:15:56. > :15:58.of half`time secured that status. Jack Redshaw took advantage of
:15:59. > :16:01.confusion in the area to score the first, while he turned provider for
:16:02. > :16:04.the second, setting up Jamie Devitt to relieve the tension even further.
:16:05. > :16:08.The Shrimps made it three in stoppage time. Andrew Fleming was
:16:09. > :16:11.impeded in the box and Paddy Amond made no mistake from the spot.
:16:12. > :16:14.Morecambe safe, and Stanley too, after their eighth away win of the
:16:15. > :16:17.campaign. Kayode Odejayi put them ahead in the first half at Oxford
:16:18. > :16:21.after James Gray's effort was saved by Ryan Clark. Gray finally got his
:16:22. > :16:23.goal, firing in from the angle after the break.
:16:24. > :16:27.Bury's 4`4 draw with Portsmouth felt more like a defeat after the Shakers
:16:28. > :16:30.led 3`0 and even 4`2 with just three minutes to go. On`loan Everton
:16:31. > :16:34.striker Hallam Hope has now scored five goals in seven games after a
:16:35. > :16:37.hat`trick here. His first two gave the home side a comfortable cushion
:16:38. > :16:43.at the break before Andy Procter increased the lead early in the
:16:44. > :16:47.second half. Pompey finally got a foothold in the game when Danny
:16:48. > :16:50.Hollands made it 3`1, but even when they made it to 3`2, the Shakers
:16:51. > :16:54.regained control when Hope stylishly completed his hat`trick on 87
:16:55. > :16:56.minutes. Backed by almost 2000 travelling fans, Portsmouth earned
:16:57. > :17:04.an unlikely point through Sonny Bradley and, in the third minute of
:17:05. > :17:07.injury time, Wes Fogden. Finally to Fleetwood, who are now
:17:08. > :17:13.confirmed in the play`offs after Chesterfield clinched the final
:17:14. > :17:16.promotion place there today. `` yesterday. Steven Schumacher's free
:17:17. > :17:19.kick evaded everyone, to give the home side the lead against Southend
:17:20. > :17:23.eight minutes before half`time, but crucially it was a lead that didn't
:17:24. > :17:26.last long. Barry Corr levelled just four minutes later, to leave both
:17:27. > :17:32.sides with a point ahead of a possible play`off meeting next
:17:33. > :17:35.month. Let's start our look at the League
:17:36. > :17:40.Two table. Confirmation Morecambe are safe. Well done to Jim Bentley
:17:41. > :17:43.and the boys. The top half shows Fleetwood in the play`offs and that
:17:44. > :17:45.lovely big P alongside Rochdale means "promoted".
:17:46. > :17:48.Fleetwood in the play`offs and that At Spotland on Saturday, there were
:17:49. > :17:57.celebrations, selfies and a sense of deja vu.
:17:58. > :18:00.celebrations, selfies and a sense of Rochdale are guaranteed promotion to
:18:01. > :18:04.League One thanks to a 2`0 win over Cheltenham. Late Kick Off never
:18:05. > :18:07.shies away from a good party, so Alex Worsley and cameraman Chris
:18:08. > :18:16.joined the team for a shower. # We are going up, say we are going
:18:17. > :18:24.up! # It's unbelievable. I never think I will play a game. # Bastien
:18:25. > :18:28.Hery! Bastien Hery! # We've worked hard all season, it's been within
:18:29. > :18:32.our grasp for the past few weeks, it shows the squad what we've got and
:18:33. > :18:36.finally we've got there. I expect I will have a hangover in the morning.
:18:37. > :18:47.Absolutely magic game. This is what you aim for with a football club.
:18:48. > :18:52.They've won more games than any other team in this division. They've
:18:53. > :18:55.been on the brink of promotion for some time but they kept these fans
:18:56. > :19:04.waiting, but today finally it's Rochdale's day. I waited four years
:19:05. > :19:10.for this. A great atmosphere. Unbelievable. That's three
:19:11. > :19:20.promotions I've seen, at my age, three promotions. Come on, the Dale.
:19:21. > :19:25.And here is how it happened. Henderson across to Vincenti. Peter
:19:26. > :19:31.Vincenti. This is Hery, for Donnelly, and Ian Henderson makes it
:19:32. > :19:38.two for Rochdale. It's Rochdale two, Cheltenham Town nil. Hang on,
:19:39. > :19:41.haven't we been here before? Four years ago Rochdale were promoted
:19:42. > :19:53.from the same division in the same day with the same manager. But
:19:54. > :19:57.something went wrong. This is one small step for Keith Hill but it's
:19:58. > :19:59.one giant leap into League One for Rochdale. Following that promotion,
:20:00. > :20:03.Rochdale had a solid season in League One, but then the manager,
:20:04. > :20:06.Keith Hill, was lured away by championship side Barnsley. Ten
:20:07. > :20:08.months later, Rochdale dropped back into League Two, but lessons have
:20:09. > :20:14.been learned and budgets scrutinised. This time we've got a
:20:15. > :20:18.squad that I think mostly the squad is ready to play in League One
:20:19. > :20:23.football, so it is a case of strengthening them. Keith is aware
:20:24. > :20:27.of that and prepared, and we know realistically, it we are at the top
:20:28. > :20:31.of league one in 12 months, our gates will still only be ?3000,
:20:32. > :20:35.something like that, and we have to cut our cloth accordingly. We owe
:20:36. > :20:41.the supporters the reward of getting promoted back to league one. Will
:20:42. > :20:46.you stay with the club through next season? Without question. I'm happy.
:20:47. > :20:49.My mate David Flitcroft says happiness bring success, success
:20:50. > :20:53.doesn't always bring you happiness, and I 100%agree with him. And that's
:20:54. > :20:57.good news for the fans as they celebrate on the pitch with the
:20:58. > :21:01.class of 2014. Imagine this in Man United. It is a family club and it
:21:02. > :21:06.is well run. The football is good. It's brilliant. Everyone is so
:21:07. > :21:10.friendly, even players, they bring kids. It's a good family feel to the
:21:11. > :21:14.club. The girls on the front, down to the kit men, they're pulling in
:21:15. > :21:18.the right direction and it makes the success all the sweeter. I got
:21:19. > :21:22.promoted when I was 18, 19. I'm now 29, so it's a long period to wait
:21:23. > :21:32.for that feeling inside that is so joyful and we've been taking so many

:22:08. > :22:11.Tranmere's fate will be decided on the last day of the season at home
:22:12. > :22:16.to Bradford, but after this defeat things are no longer in their own
:22:17. > :22:19.hands. Orient took the lead just before the break, when Kevin Lisby
:22:20. > :22:23.nudged home from close range. To add salt to the Rovers' wounds, it was
:22:24. > :22:26.their former striker Chris Dagnall who doubled the lead after the
:22:27. > :22:30.break, punishing Owain Fon Williams' mishit clearance. Crewe are point
:22:31. > :22:34.and a place above Tranmere and control their destiny after earning

:23:25. > :23:28.needing to better Leyton Orient's result next Saturday to clinch third
:23:29. > :23:33.place in that thing off against Peterborough. The bottom half shows
:23:34. > :23:38.how dire things are for Tranmere and Crewe with a game to go. Carlisle
:23:39. > :23:46.play their game in hand on Tuesday. They are away at mid`table Crawley
:23:47. > :23:49.while Oldham host Sheffield United. Oldham still have a major say in
:23:50. > :23:53.relegation because they are at home to Notts. The Alex host Preston
:23:54. > :23:56.Rovers need all the support they can muster at home to Bradford. Andy,

:24:01. > :24:05.Crewe playing Preston at home to Bradford. Tranmere possibly have the
:24:06. > :24:10.advantage. They aren't home, `` they are at home, so that is a major
:24:11. > :24:13.advantage and playing Bradford, although they have nothing to play

:24:18. > :24:20.will just go out and play with abandonment and could cause them
:24:21. > :24:24.problems, but you would think Tranmere have the better of the two
:24:25. > :24:28.fixtures. Dougie, what is it like at this part of the season with one
:24:29. > :24:33.game to go? Do the cliches come out, is it like a shoot out where form
:24:34. > :24:36.goes out the window? No, it doesn't matter, you think you're in the
:24:37. > :24:39.relegation zone is, you might not perform as well as you possibly
:24:40. > :24:43.could, if in a promotion winning side you might be free and try
:24:44. > :24:46.things you wouldn't try, so I can't say, different feelings at different
:24:47. > :24:49.ends, I've been at the bottom and top and different feelings come
:24:50. > :24:58.across in different ways and I would not like to be a bookmaker trying to
:24:59. > :25:04.pick what's going to happen. It's difficult. And a yes and no, you
:25:05. > :25:12.know from the crowd what is going on at other games? Does the manager
:25:13. > :25:18.shout scores? Very rarely. I just now on `` plough on and try to do

:25:25. > :25:29.would be a disaster. Possibly. Go and watch any of our teams in action
:25:30. > :25:33.and it is clear all our players can easily pick a pass or tackle at
