:00:16. > :00:25.From the house to the lows, it is all on this week's Late Kick Off...

:00:26. > :00:26.

:00:26. > :00:31.-- highs. Sheffield United's top striker gets five years Angel. What

:00:31. > :00:36.does the club to? Three wins in a row for Chesterfield, is staying in

:00:36. > :00:46.League One possible? And what a hoot, we go head-to-head with

:00:46. > :00:48.

:00:48. > :00:55.Sheffield Wednesday. With me, two of our English regulars. Brian Laws

:00:55. > :00:58.and Dean Windass. Late Kick Off is a football programme and we

:00:58. > :01:00.normally like to talk off-sides and golden goals. But there's no

:01:00. > :01:03.getting away from the fact that on Friday, Sheffield United's star

:01:03. > :01:08.striker Ched Evans was sentenced to five years for rape. Dan Johnson

:01:08. > :01:11.reports. On Friday, as should the United prepared for their game

:01:11. > :01:16.against MK Dons, the club were hit with the news that their striker,

:01:16. > :01:22.Ched Evans, was sentenced to five years Angel after being convicted

:01:22. > :01:27.of rape at Caernarfon Crown Court. The incident took place at a hotel

:01:27. > :01:30.in Rhyl in North Wales in May last year. Ched Evans stood trial

:01:30. > :01:36.alongside his friend, Clayton McDonald. Both deny the charges

:01:36. > :01:39.against them, like Donald was found not guilty. Evans, who scored 35

:01:39. > :01:44.goals for United this season, continued to play why the trial was

:01:44. > :01:47.taking place. Yesterday, police confirmed they are investigating

:01:47. > :01:53.possible acts of contempt of court after reports that the victim of

:01:53. > :01:56.the attack had been named on social networking websites. In a separate

:01:56. > :02:01.matter, Sheffield United released a statement confirming that they have

:02:01. > :02:11.launched their own investigation into comments about the conviction

:02:11. > :02:13.

:02:13. > :02:17.made on Twitter by the reserve team BBC Late Kick Off has made a number

:02:17. > :02:20.of requests today for an interview with the representative of

:02:20. > :02:26.Sheffield United. But we have been told that no one is available at

:02:26. > :02:29.this time. After United's game against MK Dons on Saturday,

:02:29. > :02:36.manager Danny Wilson was asked if off the field events in the last

:02:36. > :02:40.week had been unsettling for the players. Not at all, as I have said,

:02:40. > :02:44.we are professional footballers and that is the priority. Our focus has

:02:44. > :02:50.to be that and that alone. We will move on, you get dad certain blows

:02:50. > :02:58.but you just get on with it. We are not going to cry about the result

:02:58. > :03:03.today. Joining as his rod Staton from BBC Radio Shepherd. The club

:03:03. > :03:06.did not say a lot about the case, are you expecting more? We are

:03:06. > :03:11.expecting that Sen, they are meeting with their lawyers to

:03:11. > :03:15.decide what the next move will be and Ched Evans is getting advice

:03:16. > :03:21.from his lawyers about the next move and whether they will try for

:03:21. > :03:25.the retrial and when that decision is made, we will hear more. What

:03:25. > :03:30.has been the reaction? You have been canvassing from the public,

:03:30. > :03:35.what is the reaction from fans? They are shocked, they were

:03:35. > :03:41.preparing to go to MK Dons, nearly 6000, travelling on Saturday and

:03:41. > :03:45.they have been anticipating and then on Friday, that inspirational

:03:45. > :03:50.striker who scored so many goals has been sentenced to five years in

:03:50. > :03:52.prison and I am not sure that many fans will know how to react. They

:03:52. > :03:56.understand it is a human element and there is a victim and he has

:03:56. > :04:02.been found guilty but it will be some time before Shepherd United

:04:02. > :04:07.fans know how to react to this stunning use. I understand there is

:04:07. > :04:11.an investigation being launched because another member of staff has

:04:11. > :04:14.commented on the case. Have we reached a point where clubs and

:04:14. > :04:21.managers have to take a stand against players using these

:04:21. > :04:24.platforms like Twitter? They have to get wiser. I spoke to two

:04:24. > :04:29.managers in the last week or so who expressed real concern about

:04:29. > :04:33.Twitter, everybody is on it, whether you are a player or in the

:04:33. > :04:39.youth team or even some members of staff. And some of those players

:04:39. > :04:43.and staff members must realise what the audience is. Clubs have to

:04:43. > :04:46.manage that better, I am not sure how they can do that, maybe a case

:04:46. > :04:50.of the people at the tops begin to the players but the players must

:04:50. > :05:00.take responsibility and know that a lot of people for them on Twitter

:05:00. > :05:03.

:05:03. > :05:07.and they have to be more careful about what they say. Thank you. On

:05:07. > :05:12.that last point, you are a modern manager, this is a modern problem.

:05:12. > :05:21.How on earth can the police but players say on public platforms?

:05:21. > :05:25.The difficulty is that Twitter, it is widespread. Everybody uses it,

:05:25. > :05:34.but from a footballing point of view, everything has to be put in

:05:34. > :05:41.place. Very early on. And to stop twitching and to get control, that

:05:41. > :05:46.has to be contractual between the player and the club. At this moment,

:05:46. > :05:51.it is so difficult to get a group of this, and it is causing a lot of

:05:51. > :05:56.problems for individuals, which is unnecessary and unprofessional.

:05:56. > :05:59.seems active control at the moment, it might be the case for some

:05:59. > :06:06.footballers, you spanned the generations, is the modern player

:06:06. > :06:10.more arrogant and less well behaved? Because they're getting

:06:10. > :06:15.paid that much money, if you tell them not to do something, they just

:06:15. > :06:22.go against you because they are getting so much each week. Is that

:06:22. > :06:26.arrogance? I do not know. Some footballers are different. We are

:06:26. > :06:31.talking about a minority, not everybody is the same. That is the

:06:31. > :06:36.thing. As Brian said, how do you stop this with players? If I was

:06:36. > :06:41.the manager, I would say, anybody on Twitter and anybody who writes

:06:41. > :06:44.this, you put a stand on it, and that is the only way you can do it.

:06:44. > :06:48.In the changing room and you say that this is what is going to

:06:48. > :06:56.happen if you go wanted Twitter and tweet this. There was no comeback

:06:56. > :07:00.from that. You have to be tough, it is very difficult. Talking football,

:07:00. > :07:04.what happens with the team? They will talk amongst themselves and

:07:04. > :07:10.they have to stay strong professionally? This has not just

:07:10. > :07:14.happen overnight, this has been going on for a very long time. The

:07:14. > :07:17.Football Club has known about this and the players and supporters,

:07:17. > :07:21.hanging around for such a long time and they have been talking about

:07:21. > :07:27.this for months. There are no surprises that the players will be

:07:27. > :07:31.talking about this. They lost at the weekend but MK Dons away, it is

:07:31. > :07:37.again that they would have lost anyway. It has ended a very good

:07:37. > :07:41.run. They are a very good side and I would not say that was a shock

:07:41. > :07:45.defeat, from a footballing point of view, MK Dons for a very good side

:07:45. > :07:50.at home and that was a very tough place to go. Alan Smith getting the

:07:50. > :07:58.goal, his first in more than five years and well over 100 games. He

:07:58. > :08:00.used to be so prolific. So which of the Steel City giants will be going

:08:00. > :08:03.up with champions Charlton? The battle intensified this weekend

:08:03. > :08:06.because with United on a low, Wednesday's high went up another

:08:06. > :08:09.gear. Here's BBC Radio Sheffield's Paul Walker with the best of the

:08:09. > :08:13.rest of the League One action. This goal in the 95th minute by Michail

:08:13. > :08:17.Antonio blue the race wide open. His winner against Carlisle but

:08:17. > :08:27.then in the quest for automatic promotion. Wednesday went in front

:08:27. > :08:28.

:08:28. > :08:33.in the first half with Chris Lines Blades when James Berrett equalised

:08:33. > :08:36.for Carlisle, who themselves have hopes of a play-off spot. But then

:08:36. > :08:41.this Late Show from Michail Antonio show that the race for second place

:08:41. > :08:46.will continue for at least one more week. And there was another late

:08:46. > :08:49.show with Huddersfield getting their first win in four games. Lynn

:08:49. > :08:53.Novak hit the winner against Scunthorpe who have their League

:08:53. > :08:57.One status confirmed for another season. Meanwhile, the terriers

:08:57. > :09:01.know that they will play the MK Dons in the play-offs as both are

:09:02. > :09:06.certain to finish at the 4th and 5th. Shepherd United and Sheffield

:09:06. > :09:16.Wednesday taking it to the wire for second place. Huddersfield, who

:09:16. > :09:23.

:09:23. > :09:28.knows? And at the bottom, we will 10 games under Dave Jones minus 18,

:09:28. > :09:32.draw on a couple, they will not be beaten and they will not go away.

:09:32. > :09:42.To be fair Sheffield United responded in every shape and form

:09:42. > :09:47.possible. Kerr Lyle is another tough test. -- Carlisle. When you

:09:47. > :09:55.playing these games, when you score in the 95th minute, a gadget that

:09:55. > :10:01.Exchequer edge, it seems an even better when. -- extra edge. When

:10:01. > :10:09.you score in the 95th minute, what a fantastic result. I know united

:10:09. > :10:13.are in pole position, but have Wednesday got the momentum? They

:10:13. > :10:18.have just won eight out of 10 games so they have got the momentum, but

:10:18. > :10:23.so have Sheffield United. There's the off the field affect the

:10:23. > :10:29.players and take their eye off the ball? They are more professional

:10:29. > :10:35.than that. It is fantastic for the city, it is like Manchester, both

:10:35. > :10:39.teams after the top spot. Same for Sheffield. The one who does not

:10:39. > :10:43.make second will be in the play- offs along with Huddersfield.

:10:43. > :10:53.They're playing MK Dons. They have got in the play-offs and the can

:10:53. > :10:55.

:10:55. > :11:05.relax for a couple of weeks. When Sam took the job boy in -- John

:11:05. > :11:05.

:11:05. > :11:10.all-in. Four teams have drawn the season, it will be tight. I would

:11:10. > :11:13.say Huddersfield would not want MK Dons, they would want one of the

:11:13. > :11:20.other two but that is just the weight comes out in the play-offs,

:11:20. > :11:28.it is a lottery. Don't worry Chesterfield fans, we will look at

:11:28. > :11:38.your performance on Saturday in a few moments. Coming up... The

:11:38. > :11:38.

:11:38. > :11:40.Spireites have escaped plans. And this week's head to head.

:11:40. > :11:44.First to the -- First though to the championship,

:11:44. > :11:47.which is all done and dusted for us. For Hull and Leeds, the war was

:11:47. > :11:49.over on Tuesday. And though Barnsley also found out they were

:11:50. > :11:52.safe from the drop on the same night, things are looking

:11:52. > :11:53.distinctly difficult for the tykes next season. Here's Neil Morrow

:11:53. > :11:56.next season. Here's Neil Morrow with the roundup. Fans are

:11:56. > :12:01.Doncaster Rovers were in party mood at Coventry despite the horror show

:12:01. > :12:07.of last week. Everything went wrong for the Sky Blues in the second

:12:07. > :12:13.half. They conceded a penalty, went a man down and then add goal down.

:12:13. > :12:18.Rovers finished the game off with three minutes to go and Simon

:12:18. > :12:28.Gillette added the second. Barnsley knew they were safe from the job

:12:28. > :12:29.

:12:29. > :12:36.last Tuesday. -- they do drop. On Saturday, it was lowly Bristol City

:12:36. > :12:39.who inflicted a defeat. The second goal after a dubious penalty award.

:12:39. > :12:43.How City fans will be wondering why there season came to such a

:12:43. > :12:47.juddering halt in February and March. For much of the year they

:12:47. > :12:53.were promotion candidates but a run of four points from 12 games has

:12:53. > :12:56.cost them dear. They finish the season by picking up some points.

:12:56. > :13:01.This when over Nottingham Forest, their third victory and the last

:13:01. > :13:07.few matches. The result here was effectively meaningless because

:13:07. > :13:13.promotion was ruled out on Tuesday. War concerning was then gyrated his

:13:13. > :13:18.player who could be out until the New Year. -- was the injury to this

:13:18. > :13:24.player. An 11th goal of the season for this player gave Leeds a

:13:24. > :13:29.deserved share of the points. With one championship game

:13:29. > :13:33.remaining, it is pretty much all were fought her teams. It might

:13:33. > :13:38.even be a bottom have finished for Leeds United's because that is

:13:38. > :13:42.where they are now along with Doncaster Rovers. Barnsley are only

:13:42. > :13:47.Doncaster Rovers. Barnsley are only just stayed up. Let us start with

:13:47. > :13:50.Hull City, closer to the play-offs than they were last year - a sign

:13:50. > :13:58.of improvement but what do they need for the big fish next time

:13:58. > :14:05.round? Mickey has done a fantastic job since he has been appointed.

:14:05. > :14:11.When I got beat by currency, then had to go to Millwall the week

:14:11. > :14:17.after. That was a nail in the coffin for me. They got beat by

:14:17. > :14:23.Coventry. They will be desperate to keep all the players. It will be

:14:23. > :14:29.important for Mickey to keep them. They will try and identify you to

:14:29. > :14:35.bring in next season. The penalty at the weekend was his 16th goal of

:14:35. > :14:39.this season. Many do another goalscorer there though? They do,

:14:39. > :14:47.all football clubs needs strikers. You have to pay a lot of money for

:14:47. > :14:53.them. If he loses Fry, but we do I know if he will lose anyone yet. It

:14:53. > :14:57.will get a season for him next year. An interesting summer ahead at

:14:57. > :15:02.Elland Road. There season feels over but is still managed to do

:15:03. > :15:10.some damage to Cardiff City et weekend. With Neil Warnock, you

:15:10. > :15:15.know every player must give his all. It will be an interesting summer.

:15:15. > :15:21.There will be a lot of changes. Neal will want to stamp his of

:15:21. > :15:25.authority on the team. He will know who he wants to keep. He will have

:15:25. > :15:33.his targets already. It will be an interesting summer for the Leeds

:15:33. > :15:39.fans. Why happens at Oakwell? They have had a shocking couple of

:15:39. > :15:45.months to end the season, lessons learned? I think so. It has been a

:15:45. > :15:53.big job for Keith to come in from Rochdale. It is a big step. He has

:15:53. > :15:58.to keep the players for next season. Davies scored a lot golds for him.

:15:58. > :16:04.I think there was a learning curve for Keith and he will know what is

:16:04. > :16:06.needed for next season. He one stupid this season in Room one no

:16:06. > :16:09.one. I've run out of Owl puns already

:16:09. > :16:11.tonight, so let's just say that this evening's Head to Head

:16:11. > :16:21.features' Sheffield Wednesday's goalkeepers - And it's a right

:16:21. > :16:25.

:16:25. > :16:35.barney! Goalkeeper. You men it starts now. Who in the senior squad

:16:35. > :16:39.

:16:39. > :16:49.wears 14. What is the Sheffield Wednesday Mass cop called? Orly al.

:16:49. > :16:52.

:16:52. > :16:55.-- Olly Owl. Sheffield is known as the what? Steel set. Who beat

:16:55. > :17:05.Manchester United in the Championship League final last

:17:05. > :17:08.

:17:08. > :17:18.year? Who is the lead singer of Harting monkeys? Alex Turner. What

:17:18. > :17:26.is bigger an eagle Owl or a barn Owl? Eagle. Who scored's Chelsea

:17:26. > :17:36.win against Barcelona? Didier Drogba. What was the last trophy

:17:36. > :17:37.

:17:37. > :17:41.won by Sheffield Wednesday? They when S Nicky Weaver. It is getting

:17:41. > :17:43.more competitive and random next -- every week.

:17:44. > :17:50.Chesterfield came into League One in August with expectations of a

:17:50. > :17:53.decent season. So what's transpired has been a big disappointment. Yet

:17:53. > :17:57.just as we were about to write them off, the spireites have suddenly

:17:57. > :17:59.found the kind of form that may yet save the day. We sent Rob Jones to

:17:59. > :18:09.Derbyshire to watch John Sheridan plotting the great escape.

:18:09. > :18:10.

:18:10. > :18:14.Just League Two left then - and a happy tale of 2 out of 2 this week.

:18:14. > :18:19.Chesterfield's League 1 obituary was being penned on Saturday but

:18:19. > :18:26.just as relegation seems certain, the Great Escape is still on. Do

:18:26. > :18:33.you believe? I honestly do believe. Somebody up there must like has. We

:18:33. > :18:39.were fortunate today. The Spireites have been written off for much of

:18:39. > :18:45.the campaign. The stretch from Eliot or were too late January was

:18:45. > :18:50.pretty bad. What has gone wrong? Supporters claim a lack of player

:18:50. > :18:57.recruitment. We did not replace players and add to the squad. We

:18:57. > :19:04.all knew we would struggle. As regards Sheridan, no problem. I

:19:04. > :19:09.think they needed to replace people at the beginning of the season.

:19:09. > :19:15.They lost five first-team players from last season who were all good

:19:15. > :19:20.players. They never recovered. make mistakes pre-season not

:19:20. > :19:25.replacing the goalscorers who went. I do a thing we have had the rub of

:19:25. > :19:32.the green. We did not play that bad, only a couple of games where we had

:19:32. > :19:37.been heavily beaten. Whereas maybe we had all the luck last season, it

:19:37. > :19:41.has deserted as this season. Sheridan is the longest serving

:19:41. > :19:46.manager in his patch whilst other clubs have been quick to pull the

:19:46. > :19:49.trigger, jester to maintain he is the man to take them forward.

:19:49. > :19:55.of the problems it dented an Irishman and the board as well.

:19:55. > :20:01.Everyone is to blame for bad results. I do not think that joy

:20:01. > :20:07.in... He is as worried as we are. If we put someone else signed, or

:20:07. > :20:12.over the years I had not been known as the sacking manager, the board

:20:12. > :20:16.have not pushed it either. If we sent another win on, he has been

:20:16. > :20:21.sacked by somebody else. We will give them another goal, he did it

:20:21. > :20:26.last season and no reason why he should not do it again this season

:20:26. > :20:32.every Garenne League 2. Surely his position has been strengthened by

:20:32. > :20:36.as success last month that the Wembley final. The campaign should

:20:36. > :20:42.still be viewed as a success regardless of the survival

:20:42. > :20:47.according to the chairman. Last year we had to trophies. The

:20:47. > :20:51.Johnstone's Paints Trophy - that was a great day out. If we go into

:20:51. > :20:56.the Second Division for next season and we get promoted, they will not

:20:56. > :21:01.think of going down this season but they will think of going to Wembley

:21:01. > :21:10.last year. They cannot take that away from us. The Cup is in the

:21:10. > :21:15.cabinet. The record will be there for ever. Saturday's fixture with

:21:15. > :21:21.fellow strugglers Rochdale. Was teams are looking at the points and

:21:21. > :21:25.goal difference to see what they need to do. For Chesterfield and

:21:26. > :21:28.Rochdale the equation is simple, win or you are down. She chances

:21:28. > :21:35.win or you are down. She chances for either side in the first half.

:21:35. > :21:42.The fate of Chesterfield look sealed. With his golf and 17

:21:42. > :21:46.minutes left, their task was even more difficult. -- with his ball.

:21:47. > :21:53.With 10 minutes left, the most Lloyd's their home -- comeback.

:21:53. > :21:59.Scott Boden scrambled home and equaliser. For the second week in a

:22:00. > :22:06.row, Danny Whitaker came off the bench to find a winner. Chester

:22:06. > :22:12.to's victory and Walsall defeat plus a comeback are you'll will

:22:12. > :22:13.plus a comeback are you'll will mean his survival is just about on.

:22:14. > :22:20.mean his survival is just about on. The players showed a lot of

:22:20. > :22:24.character. Great character, the two sums came on and got a goal. We

:22:24. > :22:32.still have hope and we have to keep going. It will be one of the most

:22:32. > :22:37.incredible escapes it you can do it? It is not something we relish,

:22:37. > :22:41.we should be higher up the table. It has been a poor season but we

:22:41. > :22:48.will fight to the end. A you believe you can get out of this?

:22:48. > :22:53.course, you want to believe you can win every game. Every can we --
