0:00:00 > 0:00:10It may have been FA Cup weekend, but what Football League there was,

0:00:10 > 0:00:15

0:00:15 > 0:00:20we will now discuss on Late Kick- Kitted out for success. From

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Bradford to Bristol with the Bantams' kit man. We have to make

0:00:23 > 0:00:26sure that if they ask for it, you've got it. We don't want any

0:00:26 > 0:00:29negativeness. We've seen the attack, now it is

0:00:29 > 0:00:39the case for Huddersfield's defence. Watching them, watching you.

0:00:39 > 0:00:48

0:00:48 > 0:00:51Spending an evening with With me tonight I've got a man from

0:00:51 > 0:00:54Adelaide, Australia, who won the league with Leeds United, Tony. And

0:00:54 > 0:00:57one of our regulars, Brian Laws. Now, Brian favoured number 2, Tony

0:00:57 > 0:01:01number 3, as right and left backs in the days before squad numbers

0:01:01 > 0:01:04and it was the kitman's job to make sure they got the right shirts.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07Like everything else in the game these days, that role has changed

0:01:07 > 0:01:10and got more complicated. They didn't have snoods in these two's

0:01:10 > 0:01:19day. On Saturday, Rob Jones got the low down on what the modern

0:01:19 > 0:01:24equipment gurus do from Bradford City's Graeme Duckworth. It is

0:01:24 > 0:01:26about half past 10 on Saturday morning.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29The visitors' changing room at the Memorial Ground in Bristol is

0:01:29 > 0:01:31looking pretty active. If you ever wondered what goes into

0:01:31 > 0:01:34transforming your team's inner sanctum from looking like this to

0:01:34 > 0:01:38looking like this, the club kitman sees it all. We have followed

0:01:38 > 0:01:45Bradford City's all the way down to Bristol Rovers to see what goes

0:01:45 > 0:01:52into providing for the professional Our story begins on Friday morning

0:01:52 > 0:01:55at daybreak in Bradford. Bantams' kitman Graham Duckworth is already

0:01:55 > 0:01:57hard at work as City prepare to head south in search of more

0:01:57 > 0:02:00precious preservation points at the bottom of League Two.

0:02:00 > 0:02:10Bradford will train in Bristol the day before the game meaning Graham

0:02:10 > 0:02:17clocked on at a far from enviable hour. I were at the club at 5

0:02:17 > 0:02:20o'clock, got the training kit ready. Blank kits, no numbers. We do not

0:02:20 > 0:02:26want prying eyes on them, so no numbers. Wet tops, sweat tops, t-

0:02:26 > 0:02:29shirts, socks. All the kit is there. But it is not just shirts and socks,

0:02:30 > 0:02:33there are plenty of other areas to be considered by the most demanding

0:02:34 > 0:02:37of clientele. Players want more. They want everything, to be honest.

0:02:37 > 0:02:41You have to look after them. You have to make sure, if they ask for

0:02:41 > 0:02:48it, you have got it. No negatives. If there is negativity, it could

0:02:48 > 0:02:58come across as an excuse. With no stone left unturned, it is job done

0:02:58 > 0:03:02for now. Off to Bristol. With five-and-a-half hours to go,

0:03:02 > 0:03:04there's plenty to prepare on Saturday morning. On away match

0:03:04 > 0:03:11days, Graham is given a helping hand by goalkeeping coach Kevin

0:03:11 > 0:03:16Pressman. When did you become his assistant? When I first came here.

0:03:16 > 0:03:21There were some of my criteria when I first came. I thought I was

0:03:21 > 0:03:27coming as a goalkeeping coach, but they said no. Between them,

0:03:27 > 0:03:30Bradford's home-from-home is beginning to take shape. The role

0:03:30 > 0:03:33Graham took responsibility for this season is something he takes great

0:03:33 > 0:03:41pride in. And one that has taught him a lot about his beloved

0:03:41 > 0:03:45Bradford City. When you sit in the stand, you think players don't care.

0:03:45 > 0:03:54But you see it in the dressing room, you see how much it does hurt the

0:03:54 > 0:03:58players and the staff. It hurts everybody. I've seen the set up in

0:03:58 > 0:04:02the changing room, it is fantastic. Pressman is a veteran of almost 600

0:04:02 > 0:04:12games and says the kitman's fine work often goes unnoticed. But the

0:04:12 > 0:04:17banter definitely takes over. Coaching Staff! Don't blame me!

0:04:17 > 0:04:23is kind of him. Put some music on, you're boring me.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26I was a kitman's apprentice when I was younger. When I played, I was

0:04:26 > 0:04:29fortunate enough to have the kit men and their assistants. It is

0:04:29 > 0:04:36something you don't realise. Something you take for granted when

0:04:36 > 0:04:46you're a player. When you cross to the other side, you see the things

0:04:46 > 0:04:49they have to do. All the things that are put upon them on a regular

0:04:49 > 0:04:51basis which is beyond what they should be doing but they do it

0:04:51 > 0:04:54because they know it is the right thing.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57At around half past one, the City skipper leads his team into the

0:04:57 > 0:05:02Memorial Ground and the visitors' dressing room is primed for both

0:05:02 > 0:05:06players and staff. By 2 o'clock, Pressman has gone

0:05:06 > 0:05:14back to the day job and Graham can have some brief respite before

0:05:14 > 0:05:24kick-off. As vantage points go, his is not too bad, but the boyhood

0:05:24 > 0:05:27

0:05:27 > 0:05:33Bantam were not enjoying the game Another defensive lapse early in

0:05:33 > 0:05:36the second half opened up a clear path for Richards. Two-nil.

0:05:36 > 0:05:40Parkinson looked to the bench for inspiration and Graham has a role

0:05:40 > 0:05:43to play in organising the substitutions. The visitors came

0:05:43 > 0:05:53close to producing a fightback but ultimately had nothing but dirty

0:05:53 > 0:05:56

0:05:56 > 0:06:01For the players, time to lick their wounds. For Graham, the hard work

0:06:01 > 0:06:06continues as they get back on the road and head back to Yorkshire.

0:06:06 > 0:06:10like to get away as quickly as possible. It took a bit longer

0:06:10 > 0:06:14after the game today. But now they are ready to go now, all packed

0:06:14 > 0:06:17away. Take about four hours to get back and then I will start all over

0:06:17 > 0:06:20again. Next up for Bradford is a game against high-flying Crawley

0:06:20 > 0:06:30Town. The form guide will not favour City, but at least they will

0:06:30 > 0:06:32

0:06:32 > 0:06:35be dressed for success. The kit man, always that person on the bench

0:06:35 > 0:06:38that everybody looks at and thinks who is that?

0:06:38 > 0:06:43They always seem to be one of the best characters at the club. They

0:06:43 > 0:06:46normally are, they need to be. are an integral part of the team.

0:06:46 > 0:06:51There's been many a kitman that I have worked with that have been

0:06:51 > 0:06:55real characters. It is quite important. In my day, I used to

0:06:55 > 0:06:58work with a kitman to help them with the boots. It is very

0:06:58 > 0:07:05important that players have got everything they require. Times are

0:07:05 > 0:07:10changing. For a club like Bradford, everybody mucks in together. It's

0:07:10 > 0:07:18important, that togetherness. Particularly in the lower divisions.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21The manager will muck in as well. The kit man is important. As a

0:07:21 > 0:07:25manager, if you want any information, ask the kit man, he

0:07:25 > 0:07:33seems to know everything. They are very important, unsung heroes,

0:07:33 > 0:07:41really. They make things happen, make things run smoothly. There's

0:07:41 > 0:07:44more to it than getting the boots ready.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47They've always got their ears to the ground. Everyone wore the right

0:07:47 > 0:07:57claret and amber for City on Saturday, here's how they fared in

0:07:57 > 0:07:59it, and Rotherham in their black away number. Discontent is rising

0:07:59 > 0:08:02among Rotherham fans. The Millers won't be playing League

0:08:02 > 0:08:05One football when their New York stadium opens later this year. Yet

0:08:05 > 0:08:08things started well against Dagenham when Danny Harrison put

0:08:08 > 0:08:11them one up. This header at the start of the second half levelled

0:08:11 > 0:08:19things. Mark Bradley's own goal put the home side in front, but

0:08:19 > 0:08:22Rotherham responded with an equaliser within a minute. But the

0:08:22 > 0:08:24Daggers took all the points with this goal. The late sending off

0:08:24 > 0:08:31only compounding an already uncomfortable afternoon for

0:08:32 > 0:08:39Millers' boss Andy Scott. Bristol Rovers had their first home

0:08:39 > 0:08:41league victory against ten-man Bradford City. Lee Brown opened the

0:08:41 > 0:08:46scoring and Elliot Richardson took advantage of poor defending to

0:08:46 > 0:08:53increase the lead in the second half. The game was essentially over

0:08:53 > 0:09:03when Bradford's man was sent off Andrew Davies's scrambled equaliser

0:09:03 > 0:09:04

0:09:04 > 0:09:08gave the Bantams hope, but it was Rotherham's dip in form means we

0:09:08 > 0:09:11only have to look at the bottom half of League Two unfortunately.

0:09:11 > 0:09:15The Millers are now six points away from a play-off place. Bradford are

0:09:15 > 0:09:22only five points clear of the bottom two.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25Rotherham have lost three in a row now. Difficult times for Andy Scott.

0:09:25 > 0:09:30As for Bradford at the weekend, Kyle Reid should have had a penalty.

0:09:30 > 0:09:34A difficult game for them, but they should have had something. If you

0:09:34 > 0:09:40look at this, there was a rash challenge. From a manager's...you

0:09:40 > 0:09:46would say that was a penalty, but he got up quickly. But you say that,

0:09:46 > 0:09:52managers... I think it is a good thing that he got up, but as a

0:09:52 > 0:09:59manager, are you saying, stay down? If there is contact there, and that

0:09:59 > 0:10:02was fairly strong contact, you go down. But he got up cos he maybe

0:10:02 > 0:10:07though the ball was still at his feet. There's a player being honest.

0:10:07 > 0:10:11Unfortunately, not many players are that honest. We couldn't have you

0:10:11 > 0:10:14here without talking about Leeds United. That is why you are here.

0:10:14 > 0:10:21Leeds United great days while you were there, what do you make of

0:10:21 > 0:10:24Leeds' current position? Simon Grayson with the team he has got

0:10:24 > 0:10:27and the finances at his disposal are doing rather well. It is

0:10:27 > 0:10:37disappointing that after a good season, you think they would push

0:10:37 > 0:10:38

0:10:38 > 0:10:41on. They need some sort of investment in the club. The

0:10:41 > 0:10:44Championship is a pretty open league as well. With a bit of

0:10:44 > 0:10:47investment, they could be right up there. What is worrying me at the

0:10:47 > 0:10:52moment is not only are we not buying the players, but they are

0:10:52 > 0:11:00not keeping the young ones. That does not bode well. Tony still says

0:11:00 > 0:11:03"we" when it comes to Leeds. FA Cup weekend this weekend. The

0:11:03 > 0:11:06stand-out result was Hull City losing at home to Crawley Town. One

0:11:07 > 0:11:14goal to nil. I know that supporters are not particularly happy about

0:11:14 > 0:11:19that. A 1-0 defeat to League Two opposition. Does that in a way sum

0:11:19 > 0:11:29up the FA Cup now? Nick Barmby made seven changes and it backfired.

0:11:29 > 0:11:33has put out a team that he thought should have won that game. Looking

0:11:33 > 0:11:38at his team on the team-sheet, it was good enough to win the game.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41But he is playing a team who are on the up. Crawley have been together

0:11:41 > 0:11:48for a good 18 months, winning games regularly, rarely been beaten this

0:11:48 > 0:11:53year. You know that you have a tough game on your hands. If those

0:11:53 > 0:11:56players don't approach it in the right manner, this is what happens.

0:11:56 > 0:12:00I don't think any Hull player or management went into the game

0:12:00 > 0:12:10negatively thinking they were not going to win. I think they were not

0:12:10 > 0:12:17

0:12:17 > 0:12:24Sheffield United were thumped by Birmingham City. Is it a case of

0:12:24 > 0:12:27prioritise and now? The difficulty as... Look at the

0:12:27 > 0:12:32Premiership sides. They have prioritised for a number of seasons

0:12:32 > 0:12:38now. Now the League One and championship sides are doing the

0:12:38 > 0:12:41same thing. So the beauty of the Cup is not quite what it was. But

0:12:41 > 0:12:51one should get on the pitch you still really want to win those

0:12:51 > 0:12:57games. -- once you get on the pitch. Sheffield Wednesday were excellent

0:12:57 > 0:13:07in getting a draw against Blackpool. The replay as a week tomorrow.

0:13:07 > 0:13:08

0:13:08 > 0:13:15Coming up: the rest of the goals Most of the Huddersfield focus this

0:13:15 > 0:13:19season has been about goals scored. But the defence have played their

0:13:19 > 0:13:29parts in a sustained promotion challenge. We went with them to

0:13:29 > 0:13:33

0:13:33 > 0:13:38The boss arrived looking like he had a lot on his mind after

0:13:38 > 0:13:45watching his players overcome a two called deficit at Brentford last

0:13:45 > 0:13:55week. Huddersfield's goals are scored statistics look healthy but

0:13:55 > 0:13:59

0:13:59 > 0:14:06what is concerning Lee Clark at the moment are the goals away.

0:14:06 > 0:14:11You attack as a team and defend as a team. The back line has come in

0:14:11 > 0:14:17for a little bit of criticism. Not playing particularly well lately,

0:14:17 > 0:14:22but winning games. Then the news came through that

0:14:22 > 0:14:28Peter Clarke, captain, had been dropped from the squad.

0:14:28 > 0:14:34I am surprised. We do not know what this story is there. Is he injured

0:14:34 > 0:14:44or has he just been dropped? The new look defence was given a

0:14:44 > 0:15:12

0:15:12 > 0:15:22Huddersfield took a second half lead when Jordan a Rhodes scored

0:15:22 > 0:15:29

0:15:29 > 0:15:39But the advantage was short lived. This defensive error allowed Crimea

0:15:39 > 0:15:42

0:15:42 > 0:15:46in. -- Crimea. Lee Clark was not entirely happy with their draw.

0:15:46 > 0:15:56Is it fair to say that there were some controversial selections at

0:15:56 > 0:15:57

0:15:57 > 0:16:03the back today? Was it easy to drop your skipper?

0:16:03 > 0:16:07It is not easy to drop any players, particularly my captain, who I have

0:16:07 > 0:16:11immense respect for. But his replacement was strong and will

0:16:11 > 0:16:20only continue to get better as he gets to know the lads and plays

0:16:20 > 0:16:26regularly. I thought he was so solid.

0:16:26 > 0:16:31So Charlton are now nine points clear of Huddersfield that the top.

0:16:31 > 0:16:41Scunthorpe had dropped into the bottom for, but Chesterfield are

0:16:41 > 0:16:42

0:16:42 > 0:16:48You can see and hear it the frustration from Lee Clark. But it

0:16:48 > 0:16:53is a point away. Decent enough? On any given day they would think

0:16:53 > 0:16:57that is a good point, pushing for promotion. But expectations for

0:16:57 > 0:17:05Huddersfield are now that they should be going to Tranmere and

0:17:05 > 0:17:11winning. So disappointment, especially having been one - 0

0:17:11 > 0:17:17ahead. He would be happy with the equaliser more than anything else.

0:17:17 > 0:17:23-- won't be happy. He is probably thinking he has lost two points

0:17:23 > 0:17:27rather than gained one. It turned out he got his team

0:17:27 > 0:17:33selection absolutely correct, Sean Robinson had a very solid game at

0:17:33 > 0:17:39centre back. He dared, but it is all about

0:17:39 > 0:17:44pressure at this stage of the season. It is about how he and his

0:17:44 > 0:17:53players handle it. There will be games like this where, if you turn

0:17:53 > 0:17:57one. Into three, that is what can get you up.

0:17:57 > 0:18:02Chesterfield around the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Cup final second leg,

0:18:02 > 0:18:06news a little later on. Button Friday night they were carrying on

0:18:06 > 0:18:12their excellent form at the bottom of the League One. What an

0:18:12 > 0:18:19excellent strike. Signs are that they are coming to terms with being

0:18:19 > 0:18:25one division higher. Yes. I was at the game.

0:18:25 > 0:18:30Chesterfield deserved that against an inform team. Bournemouth, their

0:18:30 > 0:18:39first loss in a 10 away games. That tells you Chesterfield or on the

0:18:39 > 0:18:46way up. They are buoyant now. But what a great strike. It deserved to

0:18:46 > 0:18:56win the game. Now time for our Test of brains.

0:18:56 > 0:18:57

0:18:57 > 0:19:05This week, a tiger is up against a Danny Easton, Hull City, a right-

0:19:05 > 0:19:14back. Aaron McLean, Hull City.

0:19:14 > 0:19:22What here where Hull City founded? 19 off-fore. Who will Liverpool

0:19:22 > 0:19:32play in the Carling Cup final? What is the official name of the

0:19:32 > 0:19:34

0:19:34 > 0:19:42city that Hull playing. Kingston upon Thames.

0:19:42 > 0:19:48Who is the president of FIFA? Sepp Blatter.

0:19:48 > 0:19:58Who did Manchester City defeat in the FA Cup final.

0:19:58 > 0:20:00

0:20:00 > 0:20:10Manchester United? The they may your club or mascot.

0:20:10 > 0:20:18

0:20:18 > 0:20:23But Rory the tiger. More or excitement. Stewards

0:20:23 > 0:20:28inquiry. I am sure that Aaron McLean was correct when he answered

0:20:28 > 0:20:32Sepp Blatter. It would not have made any difference though. Now,

0:20:32 > 0:20:38why do some people go to football matches and turn their back on the

0:20:38 > 0:20:48game? We are talking about match- day stewards. We went to see how

0:20:48 > 0:20:52the Scunthorpe security staff Midweek football under the

0:20:52 > 0:20:58floodlights. A welcome distraction from the working week for most of

0:20:58 > 0:21:04us. But not for the police. Their working day begins a was before

0:21:04 > 0:21:09anyone arrives at the ground. The majority of people were coming

0:21:09 > 0:21:14to watch the football. They are law abiding and we will help them enjoy

0:21:14 > 0:21:20their day. But if people are here to engage in disorder we will deal

0:21:20 > 0:21:26with them a family and make arrests where possible.

0:21:26 > 0:21:34This is our local dark bay so there is a chance of spontaneous disorder.

0:21:34 > 0:21:38-- local derby. Over the years, our level of

0:21:38 > 0:21:43policing at Scunthorpe has dropped dramatically. The way we police

0:21:43 > 0:21:53football has changed. We are more intelligence lead. We are only

0:21:53 > 0:21:54

0:21:54 > 0:21:58policing a very small number of people go to football grounds.

0:21:58 > 0:22:02The police have managed to reduce the number of officers required

0:22:02 > 0:22:09inside the ground of thanks to partnerships with the clubs

0:22:10 > 0:22:15themselves and improvements in his CCTV. John and his team keep an eye

0:22:15 > 0:22:19on the terraces from the police control room. There are nine

0:22:19 > 0:22:27cameras and although crowd trouble is rare, they do provide a useful

0:22:27 > 0:22:30tool. And what of the stewards? They are not such a bad bunch. It

0:22:30 > 0:22:36is their relationship with the supporters that keeps everybody

0:22:36 > 0:22:43safe. Customer care is a priority. Talk

0:22:43 > 0:22:49nicely to the home and away fans. We have regular meetings between

0:22:49 > 0:22:54ourselves and the police. Plus the football intelligence officers.

0:22:54 > 0:22:59There inconstant talks with me every week. The supporters do

0:22:59 > 0:23:04accept when eschew words go up to them and talked to them. That is

0:23:04 > 0:23:08the idea, that we work in partnership.

0:23:08 > 0:23:13You would think stewards would be easily distracted with the cream of

0:23:13 > 0:23:16legal one talent playing just a few feet away.

0:23:17 > 0:23:21I have been doing this for years now and whilst it is difficult to

0:23:21 > 0:23:30take my eyes of the game, it is my job to look at the fans, so why do

0:23:30 > 0:23:38my best. Sheffield Wednesday had a two - 0

0:23:38 > 0:23:43lead before this a fine solo effort won it for the visitors. Scunthorpe

0:23:43 > 0:23:49pulled a goal back but Gary Megson's side stood a fathom it to

0:23:49 > 0:23:54claim the three points. It went well. The crowd behave

0:23:54 > 0:23:58themselves. Agree that this fear in the ground and no issues for the

0:23:58 > 0:24:08policing operation whatsoever. -- eight good at this fear in the

0:24:08 > 0:24:15

0:24:16 > 0:24:19They are great bunch of supporters down there but at every club will

0:24:19 > 0:24:25win you are winning it is great, when you are losing, they let you

0:24:25 > 0:24:35know about it. Lots happening midweek. Tuesday

0:24:35 > 0:24:37

0:24:37 > 0:24:47night games in the championship. Leeds verses of Birmingham. That is

0:24:47 > 0:24:47

0:24:47 > 0:24:52a tough task for Leeds. Birmingham are before a team in the country.

0:24:52 > 0:24:58In the League One, Alan Smith might be playing for Milton Keynes dawns.

0:24:58 > 0:25:02Now, Birmingham City have won six in a row.

0:25:02 > 0:25:07Yes, they will look to be right back in the Premier League as soon

0:25:07 > 0:25:13as possible. They seem to have got some momentum now and are doing

0:25:13 > 0:25:16particularly well. That will be a hard game for Leeds. Normally it is

0:25:16 > 0:25:21a fortress Elland Road, and they want to get back to that, but it

0:25:21 > 0:25:28will be very hard to keep out Birmingham.

0:25:28 > 0:25:33And Doncaster Rovers without their first-choice goalkeeper?

0:25:33 > 0:25:36The writing was on the wall giving he had a get-out clause. We thought

0:25:37 > 0:25:44there might be deeper problems at Doncaster, that is perhaps why they

0:25:44 > 0:25:49had to let him go now. Moron that in the weeks to come.

0:25:49 > 0:25:56But begging games for Doncaster coming up.

0:25:56 > 0:26:02Yes, they need the right result to get out of the bottom three.

0:26:02 > 0:26:11For all the news and goals of tune into euro on the local BBC radio

0:26:11 > 0:26:15station. You can keep and touch with us during the week on Twitter.

0:26:15 > 0:26:23And remember you can watch us again and catch up with all the other

0:26:23 > 0:26:28regional versions of the programme on BBC I player. Now, to finish,

0:26:28 > 0:26:36Chesterfield at this evening. The second leg of the Johnstone's Paint

0:26:36 > 0:26:42Trophy final this evening. They lead two - one from the first leg.

0:26:42 > 0:26:46An incredible night. Chesterfield needed just a draw. For large

0:26:46 > 0:26:54periods it did not look like they would get it. But eventually they

0:26:54 > 0:26:58got the wind. Here is the round-up. A classic backs-to-the-wall

0:26:58 > 0:27:05performance by Chesterfield. Leading by a goal from the first

0:27:05 > 0:27:11leg of they put their opponents under pressure from the off.

0:27:11 > 0:27:18Chances continued to come. Oldham had a gilt edged shot after a

0:27:18 > 0:27:25quarter of an hour. Then a free- kick which was blocked by the old

0:27:25 > 0:27:34home defence. When Chesterfield ventured up the field, they had

0:27:34 > 0:27:39chances to score. But as half-time approached, Oldham nearly flipped

0:27:39 > 0:27:49the first goal. The second have started brightly for John

0:27:49 > 0:27:50

0:27:50 > 0:27:55Sheridan's men. Then at the Games are relentless pattern of resumed.

0:27:55 > 0:28:00Still the chances came for Oldham. Chesterfield's defence was

0:28:00 > 0:28:09bordering on the heroic. Alan Lee made an excellent save with five

0:28:09 > 0:28:15minutes remaining. Then there with the less than two minutes to go...
