0:00:35 > 0:00:39Good evening, welcome back to Alexander Palace. The quarterfinals

0:00:39 > 0:00:45of the 2018 masters are well under way and to night we shall see one of

0:00:45 > 0:00:50Snicko's brightest young talents, Kyren Wilson, line up against

0:00:50 > 0:00:55Williams the Welsh wonder.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58Williams the Welsh wonder. His nerve is going to hold in the final

0:00:58 > 0:01:06session.

0:01:06 > 0:01:14It will be this time I am sure.A tremendous cheer, really deserved

0:01:14 > 0:01:20for this young man.

0:01:32 > 0:01:39How did that go in? Of all the players this week he has played

0:01:39 > 0:01:47consistently the best. Mark Williams looks as though he is going to have

0:01:47 > 0:01:58that trophy. That is for the championship.

0:01:58 > 0:02:04championship.Wonderful memories and Mark Williams' family is in the

0:02:04 > 0:02:08crowd here tonight and they might not realise that when it comes to

0:02:08 > 0:02:17the head to heads, Kyren Wilson leads Mark Williams, leading by 2-0.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21And when Mark Williams won his first Masters title Kyren Wilson was still

0:02:21 > 0:02:27in school. That is the difference in age between these two. Good evening,

0:02:27 > 0:02:31Steve Davis. We have to say the way Mark Williams is playing there is no

0:02:31 > 0:02:36reason why come Sunday he is not lifting this trophy. He looked

0:02:36 > 0:02:40magnificent in the first round, everybody was impressed. At the age

0:02:40 > 0:02:47of 32 he is putting in great performances.

0:02:47 > 0:02:51performances.He is dangerous. What about Kyren Wilson and you see the

0:02:51 > 0:02:56way he has matured as a fine snooker player? Do you see him as somebody

0:02:56 > 0:03:02who could one day lift this title? We all see the potential, he has got

0:03:02 > 0:03:07a great all-round game, a good head on his shoulders, and he is

0:03:07 > 0:03:13competitive as well. If he keeps on improving, he will lift trophies.Do

0:03:13 > 0:03:18you think this one will go all the way?The start is important, but it

0:03:18 > 0:03:23is not the most important. How you finish is best. But both these

0:03:23 > 0:03:26players are great match players in their own different ways and it will

0:03:26 > 0:03:31be fascinating.We will talk to you about Ronnie O'Sullivan in a moment.

0:03:31 > 0:03:36The big story so far is running O'Sullivan was dumped out this

0:03:36 > 0:03:41afternoon by Northern Ireland's Mark Allen. It was all very

0:03:41 > 0:03:44straightforward for Mark Allen and his record in major championships

0:03:44 > 0:03:50against Roddy continues. His second Masters win over Ronnie O'Sullivan,

0:03:50 > 0:03:55the defending champion. The favourite is out and he spoke to BBC

0:03:55 > 0:04:01Radio five live after the match.If I was a football player, I would

0:04:01 > 0:04:06have missed this game, but it is an individual sport so you have to get

0:04:06 > 0:04:12out there and do it.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15out there and do it. I thought just turn up and give it a go, but I was

0:04:15 > 0:04:19struggling. It was a virus or something. I have had it before and

0:04:19 > 0:04:24it is very difficult when you get dizzy spells. Give it ago and it was

0:04:24 > 0:04:30good enough. If I was playing someone who could not put a ball I

0:04:30 > 0:04:34might have been all right, but he is too good a player. I know people do

0:04:34 > 0:04:38not take me seriously, but I come back to snooker for different

0:04:38 > 0:04:48reasons. It is a bit of a time passer for me. I don't enjoy... I

0:04:48 > 0:04:52have explained before I want to get out of snooker as quickly as I can.

0:04:52 > 0:04:56I still play because I have got some snooker fans. I still play a few

0:04:56 > 0:05:02tournaments. It is better that I do a month in Australia while at the

0:05:02 > 0:05:04World Championships are wrong because I would find it difficult

0:05:04 > 0:05:09not being part of it.You are saying you will not play at the World

0:05:09 > 0:05:14Championships?Things can change, but it has been on my mind for a

0:05:14 > 0:05:19while and the best place for me to be is away, because it would be

0:05:19 > 0:05:24difficult. It is a great tournament, but I am not going there and doing

0:05:24 > 0:05:27the press and the media and the day before and the big microscope on

0:05:27 > 0:05:33you. I would rather play in these little events under the radar, have

0:05:33 > 0:05:38some fun and pot a few balls. I get my fix that way. I am not desperate

0:05:38 > 0:05:42to win another world title. Unless the terms and conditions are

0:05:42 > 0:05:50different, I would rather do something else. I am not one of

0:05:50 > 0:05:56these who is just going to drop. I am not going to put thousands of

0:05:56 > 0:06:00miles on my clock. I do not do pressure and stress too well. There

0:06:00 > 0:06:04are other opportunities out there and I enjoy it and it is good fun

0:06:04 > 0:06:08and my life is better because of it and that is the way it is. If they

0:06:08 > 0:06:13want me to play, they have to come knock on my door. If they don't want

0:06:13 > 0:06:17me, there are other people who will do stuff with me as well.Ronnie

0:06:17 > 0:06:22O'Sullivan speaking this afternoon. Somebody in the audience does not

0:06:22 > 0:06:26like the sound of that. Many watching at home will have very

0:06:26 > 0:06:30strong views and some of you say that that was predictable from

0:06:30 > 0:06:36Ronnie.The cynic in me would say we have heard it all before and that

0:06:36 > 0:06:40was off the back of getting a drubbing from Mark Allen and perhaps

0:06:40 > 0:06:44he was a bit disappointed in the interview. The more empathetic side

0:06:44 > 0:06:49of me will say that as the years go on, and Stephen Hendry has the

0:06:49 > 0:06:53experience, as you get older you do not relish the competitive side of

0:06:53 > 0:06:56it as much as you did when you were younger. Perhaps this is the sign

0:06:56 > 0:07:09that whilst he loves playing the game he does not enjoy the

0:07:13 > 0:07:16fight as much as he used to. Therefore looking to bailout is one

0:07:16 > 0:07:18of the ways you will do that. Stephen Hendry retired in the top

0:07:18 > 0:07:2216. I did not enjoy the latter part of my career playing against more

0:07:22 > 0:07:23aggressive, younger players. Perhaps this is Ronnie trying to work out

0:07:23 > 0:07:27how he gets out of the game in some way. But let's see how the draw

0:07:27 > 0:07:30comes through.Clearly he enjoys other aspects of his life. He has

0:07:30 > 0:07:35got the creative side, he is doing literature and television. Can you

0:07:35 > 0:07:38understand why he would want to go and do that as opposed to the sport

0:07:38 > 0:07:45in which he has created his name? Yes, if he stopped enjoying

0:07:45 > 0:07:49competitive play. If he enjoyed it, he would be driven to the match

0:07:49 > 0:07:53table and the World Championships would be the holy Grail every year.

0:07:53 > 0:07:58If you are starting to not like competitive play, and he has said he

0:07:58 > 0:08:03does not care one way or the other, if you do not like competitive play

0:08:03 > 0:08:07as much as you used to, you will look for different ways to get out

0:08:07 > 0:08:12of it. But it may be the case he is coming to the press conference after

0:08:12 > 0:08:17losing and he is sulking a bit.We also should say it was a fantastic

0:08:17 > 0:08:21display from Mark Allen. People will say we are all talking about Ronnie,

0:08:21 > 0:08:26but Mark Allen came out and did a job on him.He is competitive and

0:08:26 > 0:08:31hungry and he wants to win a major, so you have got a different state of

0:08:31 > 0:08:36mind. Ronnie has done it all before and Mark Allen is still hungry for

0:08:36 > 0:08:41tournament wins.Perhaps that is the answer. Let's bring you up-to-date

0:08:41 > 0:08:49with the quarterfinals. So, the seven times Masters winner Ronnie

0:08:49 > 0:08:53O'Sullivan was dumped out this afternoon by Mark Allen. John

0:08:53 > 0:08:59Higgins has got two Masters titles to his name. John Trump plays the

0:08:59 > 0:09:062015 Masters winner Shaun Murphy. Kyren Wilson is up against the 1998

0:09:06 > 0:09:12and 2003 Masters winner Mark Williams. So, we are really looking

0:09:12 > 0:09:14forward to this one tonight. It is Williams against Wilson. Good

0:09:14 > 0:09:27evening, Rob Walker. Good evening, what a remarkable day

0:09:27 > 0:09:30it has been, Ronnie O'Sullivan knocked out by a sublime Mike Allen.

0:09:30 > 0:09:35We have got two of the best in the world waiting to go toe to toe

0:09:35 > 0:09:47tonight. It is showtime once again here in north London.

0:09:53 > 0:09:58Please welcome a player who secured his first Masters win on Tuesday

0:09:58 > 0:10:03night beating the classy Barry Hawkins 6-4. Winner of the 2015

0:10:03 > 0:10:09Shanghai Masters, he has made two filed this season already. He is

0:10:09 > 0:10:14without doubt one of the sport's elite and he will be fired up

0:10:14 > 0:10:25tonight. That is why we call him The Warrior, Kyren Wilson.

0:10:25 > 0:10:31# See you later alligator,

0:10:43 > 0:10:47and his opponent, a man who spent much of the last two years telling

0:10:47 > 0:10:51us he is a has-been. Do not believe it for one single

0:10:51 > 0:10:58second. There is still more than a touch or two of magic than in that

0:10:58 > 0:11:04ageing Welsh cue. In November he produced an emotional 19th ranking

0:11:04 > 0:11:08night total in Northern Ireland. On Sunday he knocked out the world

0:11:08 > 0:11:13number one Mark Selby. He has still got it, he is the pride of Wales, he

0:11:13 > 0:11:20is Mark Williams.

0:11:26 > 0:11:34MUSIC: Delilah by Tom Jones.

0:11:44 > 0:11:48How lovely to hear the crowd giving Mark Williams a wonderful raw here

0:11:48 > 0:11:53inside Alexander Palace. You wonder, John Parrott and John Virgo, now

0:11:53 > 0:11:57that Ronnie O'Sullivan is out whether Mark Williams is the crowd

0:11:57 > 0:12:02favourite.Good evening, I think Ronnie losing this afternoon has

0:12:02 > 0:12:07opened up the tournament for everybody. Everybody left in it will

0:12:07 > 0:12:10fancy their chances. But he is definitely going to be a major

0:12:10 > 0:12:18contender because of his experience. That is playing on these one-table

0:12:18 > 0:12:24situations at this level.I agree with you. It will be an interesting

0:12:24 > 0:12:31match. They have played a couple of times and Kyren has won both of

0:12:31 > 0:12:39them. But there is a different magnitude to this one.

0:12:49 > 0:13:00One of snooker's class of 92. Beat John Higgins and Ronnie O'Sullivan.

0:13:00 > 0:13:05To think he is still there competing at the highest level. His comeback

0:13:05 > 0:13:15ability has been amazing. He dropped out of the top 32 at one stage. But

0:13:15 > 0:13:22this young man, Kyren Wilson, is the future if you like. He was a bit

0:13:22 > 0:13:29fortunate there. He did not hit that safety shot well. Flicking the green

0:13:29 > 0:13:39has helped him. This is an interesting matchup.

0:13:52 > 0:13:59Decided to play dead weight roll into the pack.

0:13:59 > 0:14:03into the pack. He will be taking a miss. He is having the cue ball

0:14:03 > 0:14:14clean. That was a mistake from Mark Williams.

0:14:28 > 0:14:32Always the way with this game, he played a poor safety shot and he got

0:14:32 > 0:14:37away with it. A couple of shots later there he is on the balls with

0:14:37 > 0:14:45a great chance.

0:14:45 > 0:14:49a great chance. It is a wonderful arena, packed to the rafters again.

0:14:49 > 0:14:55This has turned out to be a brilliant venue, John.To be honest,

0:14:55 > 0:14:58I did not think anything could replace the Wembley conference

0:14:58 > 0:15:03Centre but this has.

0:15:05 > 0:15:10Centre but this has. Only his second appearance in the Masters, Kyren.

0:15:10 > 0:15:17First time in the quarterfinals. So there will be a lot of nerves there.

0:15:17 > 0:15:23We'll be giving every shot the utmost respect. Winning the first

0:15:23 > 0:15:29frame, nothing would settle you better, particularly if you could do

0:15:29 > 0:15:35it in one visit. But he has a bit to do yet. He has got to bring the reds

0:15:35 > 0:15:42into play.

0:15:43 > 0:15:49I thought that cue ball was going to stop short, but it has just about

0:15:49 > 0:15:57got an angle on the blue.I presume it is the new cloth.I would have

0:15:57 > 0:16:02thought so.Shaun Murphy thought it was on its way out yesterday. You

0:16:02 > 0:16:08would think they would put a new course on for the next round. You

0:16:08 > 0:16:12will expect it to be a bit lively and a little easier on the jaws as

0:16:12 > 0:16:24well. Balls sometimes tend to slide in a little easier.

0:16:24 > 0:16:29That time short of the blue. That is probably a bit of tension in his

0:16:29 > 0:16:36arm.

0:16:37 > 0:16:44There is one red sticking out on the edge which could go.

0:16:47 > 0:16:50edge which could go. But he will have to play it with some pace to

0:16:50 > 0:16:56bring any ball into play.

0:16:56 > 0:16:59bring any ball into play.REFEREE: Make sure that your flashlights are

0:16:59 > 0:17:07switched off, please.

0:17:10 > 0:17:16I am surprised he played that in that way.

0:17:22 > 0:17:30But at least he didn't miss.

0:17:46 > 0:17:58Lovely shot. That is the problem with a player like Mark Williams,

0:17:58 > 0:18:09his tactical noose. He finds himself in big trouble. That was a lovely

0:18:09 > 0:18:14touch.

0:18:17 > 0:18:18touch. Not absolutely straightforward for getting out of

0:18:18 > 0:18:19this.

0:18:29 > 0:18:34REFEREE: Foul and a miss. Mark Williams, four.

0:18:41 > 0:18:49That was the line he was looking for.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52for. Mark will not have this replace. He will fancy taking it on

0:18:52 > 0:18:58to the far right corner.

0:19:04 > 0:19:19A nice confident stroke. He decided that was the right shot to play.

0:19:21 > 0:19:25Kyren was in with a chance first and this is Mark Williams' first chance

0:19:25 > 0:19:27of the evening.

0:19:33 > 0:19:36I don't think the pink is available.

0:19:42 > 0:19:52He has played for the black. He will do well here to get on another read.

0:20:01 > 0:20:10I am surprised. He chose the wrong red. Those two reds on the left, if

0:20:10 > 0:20:15he had taken the right-hand side .0, he would be on the bottom of the

0:20:15 > 0:20:26pack. It looks like end of break unless he can find something.

0:20:41 > 0:20:46You mentioned that class of 92, John. What three players they were

0:20:46 > 0:20:53to come through at the

0:20:53 > 0:20:57to come through at the same time, Higgins and Williams. All multiple

0:20:57 > 0:21:03world champions. It must have been a tough year playing as a junior if

0:21:03 > 0:21:10you got one of them.Yes, I remember seeing some of the qualifiers in

0:21:10 > 0:21:19Blackpool and Ronnie played 76 qualifiers and 174. Do not ask me

0:21:19 > 0:21:28who were the two who beat him!

0:21:30 > 0:21:34He did not have a look at the plant so I assume he noticed it was there.

0:21:34 > 0:21:40Now he has got an angle on the green. He knocked it in

0:21:40 > 0:21:48nonchalantly. He did not appear to apologise to Kyren. He would like

0:21:48 > 0:21:57that cue ball to be a lot closer than this.

0:21:58 > 0:22:07That was about as good as he could do from there.

0:22:12 > 0:22:22This red will cut.

0:22:23 > 0:22:35It needs to stop short of the baulk line. Not quite.

0:22:53 > 0:23:07Surely he is not looking at the pot. This is extremely acute this angle.

0:23:08 > 0:23:13He was and he took the chance. But that was extremely thin. Now he has

0:23:13 > 0:23:19missed it and it gives his opponent a chance. It was a tough shot, John.

0:23:19 > 0:23:27It was. But he felt it was a natural cannon into the cluster. If it had

0:23:27 > 0:23:32gone in, it could have won him the frame. It did not, it could cost

0:23:32 > 0:23:38him.

0:23:51 > 0:23:57He would have liked to have been on the blue, but he will settle for the

0:23:57 > 0:24:08brown. As soon as the back spin touches the cushion, it turns into

0:24:08 > 0:24:14top spin. He should be hitting that just below centre. He could have

0:24:14 > 0:24:21played better than that.

0:24:24 > 0:24:29He would have liked to have been closer to the red.I think he has

0:24:29 > 0:24:32found a planned. I think that is why he was not bothered with the cue

0:24:32 > 0:24:33ball.

0:24:46 > 0:24:52He had to catch the first one just right and he caught it a bit full.

0:25:07 > 0:25:11I think that red going in was an example of what we were talking

0:25:11 > 0:25:20about with that new cloth being on the table. It's

0:25:21 > 0:25:23the table. It's sliding off the jaw.

0:25:35 > 0:25:39Mark Williams' decision to take that very tricky brown might be his

0:25:39 > 0:25:48undoing in the opening frame. Another 24 points needed at this

0:25:48 > 0:25:50visit.

0:25:58 > 0:26:09He played that nicely.

0:26:23 > 0:26:37The wrong side of the blue. A bit more to do than he should have had.

0:26:38 > 0:26:47Still looking for a red, a colour, red.

0:27:17 > 0:27:25Never really had the cue ball in this break. He is 40 points ahead

0:27:25 > 0:27:31with 43 on the table. This red should be enough for the first

0:27:31 > 0:27:37frame, but this has been hard work this break. Even with the

0:27:45 > 0:27:54Even with the plant.

0:28:03 > 0:28:07But for a couple of snooker 's Kyren Wilson will have the first frame in

0:28:07 > 0:28:10the bag.

0:28:17 > 0:28:21It is not etiquette, you do not concede when your opponent is coming

0:28:21 > 0:28:24to the table.

0:28:37 > 0:28:42That is definitely the end of that frame. It has been a little scrappy

0:28:42 > 0:28:48for sure. Both players had chances.

0:28:54 > 0:29:00Kyren Wilson will take the opening frame and you always settle down in

0:29:00 > 0:29:10a match if you take the opening frame.

0:29:21 > 0:29:34Oh, hello! Save them for when you need them, son.

0:29:34 > 0:29:39need them, son. Yes, he wanted the frame to end there. That was very

0:29:39 > 0:29:46risky, but he is a percentage player.

0:29:46 > 0:29:49player. The percentage went against him and Kyren Wilson took it.That

0:29:49 > 0:29:53is the one thing we have spotted from the Masters, it is important to

0:29:53 > 0:30:00get a good start in a match. Very confident from Kyren Wilson. He was

0:30:00 > 0:30:03presented with a final opportunity by Mark Williams with a risky brown.

0:30:03 > 0:30:09In hindsight he should not have gone for it, but if he had potted it, he

0:30:09 > 0:30:14would have had the frame. It was a tough cut back. You could argue in

0:30:14 > 0:30:21the first frame you could keep it a bit tighter. But the end result is

0:30:21 > 0:30:24that Kyren Wilson has got off to a good start. We will see how much

0:30:24 > 0:30:30that influences the match.

0:30:31 > 0:30:36In the opening frame, there were a couple of great pots, to relieve the

0:30:36 > 0:30:40tension?It's a sign of a player who isn't overawed by the occasion and

0:30:40 > 0:30:45will probably go forward in his career that he can get off to a good

0:30:45 > 0:30:48start. He will have some nerves, positive nerves, as opposed to being

0:30:48 > 0:30:52frightened.He's got a lovely way about him, hasn't he?Yeah,

0:30:52 > 0:30:58everybody who has seen him play, he impressed at the World Championship

0:30:58 > 0:31:04and we all went, well, he's a player can you know, and you can spot them.

0:31:04 > 0:31:09It's no surprise he's in the top 16 already this year. This is only his

0:31:09 > 0:31:13second appearance. That win over Barry Hawkins was his first win at

0:31:13 > 0:31:16the Masters.Yeah, whether or not that gives him a confidence I don't

0:31:16 > 0:31:22know, but he's on the way up.He's up against someone who is very

0:31:22 > 0:31:25experienced, in Mark Williams. Let's gone back to John Virgo and John

0:31:25 > 0:31:26Parrott.

0:31:32 > 0:31:37Is Kyren Wilson to break off WinFrame two. Whilst that wasn't

0:31:37 > 0:31:43riveting opening frame, he won't be too bothered about it. It's got a

0:31:43 > 0:31:47number one next to his name, he's taken the opener, which is a good

0:31:47 > 0:31:53start to any match. He's a very competent matchplay is Kyren.

0:31:53 > 0:31:58Doesn't seem to get flustered by too much. He's definitely on the

0:31:58 > 0:32:05upgrade.

0:32:15 > 0:32:23Can he pot this red? More interested in getting the cue ball back to the

0:32:23 > 0:32:28end of the table. Made a pretty good job of it. OK, not close to the

0:32:28 > 0:32:35baulk question, but he was the sport of there. -- baulk Russian.

0:32:45 > 0:32:58A bit thick with that one. But in the end it's turned out OK.

0:32:58 > 0:33:03I think this is going to be a proper match don't you? It's going to be

0:33:03 > 0:33:08competitive for every shot, every chance, you will have to recount.

0:33:08 > 0:33:13You are going to have to earn your corn, aren't you? Players are low is

0:33:13 > 0:33:17to hit the sides of the pack here because reds open up so easily.

0:33:17 > 0:33:22That's why Mark Williams is shaking his head, he doesn't really want to

0:33:22 > 0:33:26play off the side of the pack. He can't guarantee where the reds are

0:33:26 > 0:33:30going to go.also, when you are playing someone like Kyren, who is

0:33:30 > 0:33:37probably his biggest friend, is his long potting, which it is when you

0:33:37 > 0:33:40are young and your eyesight is better, so just to prove John

0:33:40 > 0:33:46Wright, just played the negative safety.

0:33:46 > 0:33:56Whether that will work in the long run or not is another matter.

0:34:06 > 0:34:14APPLAUSE

0:34:20 > 0:34:27He played one in the last frame that was way short. So is that.

0:34:31 > 0:34:36I tell you one thing I notice about Kyren Wilson, I did his last match

0:34:36 > 0:34:46against Barry Hawkins, he does love a double. He loves a double.

0:34:48 > 0:34:54Interesting, putting them back in to bat, there is no great advantage, he

0:34:54 > 0:34:59could easily have played off the loose red himself, Haran, and played

0:34:59 > 0:35:04a safety shot.I think he was eyeing up the double but didn't feel he

0:35:04 > 0:35:09could get petition on the colour. As you say, a straightforward escape.

0:35:09 > 0:35:11Just needs more pace.

0:35:22 > 0:35:28So is Mark Williams going to keep the frames tight and the reds off

0:35:28 > 0:35:32his safety, do you think Kyren should maybe play a bit more

0:35:32 > 0:35:35aggressive safety?I don't think that will be happening, he will play

0:35:35 > 0:35:41it as it is that at some point it will open up, surely. It was a very

0:35:41 > 0:35:44strange shot that Mark Williams played, when he pushed the reds to

0:35:44 > 0:35:54the top cushion. That was as negative as you are likely to see.

0:35:54 > 0:36:00Yet he lost the first frame by playing the most aggressive shot

0:36:00 > 0:36:01you're likely to see. Good safety there.

0:36:01 > 0:36:03APPLAUSE

0:36:22 > 0:36:28If he misses the brown, it would be a good safety. He didn't. But the

0:36:28 > 0:36:38red closest to the corner is covered by another red.

0:36:45 > 0:36:51Now, can he pot this and stun across the side of the pack? Like that. He

0:36:51 > 0:36:55did, but he didn't have the control on the cue ball, didn't get into it

0:36:55 > 0:37:01enough. That was a natural angle for that, it was a great pot, just

0:37:01 > 0:37:09didn't get hold of the cue ball.

0:37:09 > 0:37:18Did he hit the black? He's missed it and the cue ball, he's lucky the cue

0:37:18 > 0:37:23ball didn't go in. Miss has been called but I think maybe Kyren can

0:37:23 > 0:37:28get through to this red, through the blue. No point in having it put

0:37:28 > 0:37:33back. He's not going to Mr black second time. It's one of those

0:37:33 > 0:37:38situations, do you want to take this on yourself? Here we C Mark Williams

0:37:38 > 0:37:43attempting to get the thin clip off the black, which he misses, so he's

0:37:43 > 0:37:55going to try to take it on, Kyren. He prefers to play at himself.

0:37:55 > 0:37:57He prefers to play at himself. -- it himself. He probably felt the only

0:37:57 > 0:38:01red he could leave was the one he was playing and that's run safe, so

0:38:01 > 0:38:05no harm done, but there is a target behind the brown marker we are

0:38:05 > 0:38:11looking for here.

0:38:11 > 0:38:18He'll be disappointed with that effort.

0:38:18 > 0:38:20effort.Yeah, and, well, you mentioned earlier that Kyren's long

0:38:20 > 0:38:31game is very good stuff it's the first test of it, this evening.

0:38:37 > 0:38:44APPLAUSE Yeah, that's pretty good. Beautiful,

0:38:44 > 0:38:48straight through the ball, perfectly on the black, and excellent shot.

0:39:12 > 0:39:21It's not worked out too bad. He's got the red to the right corner.

0:39:21 > 0:39:26It's a full enough contact, potting contact, that he can hold for the

0:39:26 > 0:39:30black, into the same pocket. A decent chance, this.

0:39:56 > 0:40:02One of those little shots that you like to play with the dab aside on

0:40:02 > 0:40:06it to help the pot and unfortunately when you do that and it hits the

0:40:06 > 0:40:10cushion, it takes the cue ball closer to the left-hand side

0:40:10 > 0:40:14cushion. It just looks like it's slightly off straight, which isn't

0:40:14 > 0:40:15great.

0:40:28 > 0:40:36He'll settle for that. Trusting a little bit to look. He's pinched a

0:40:36 > 0:40:41little bit of Lee Angol. He's got a red to the left middle. He's got one

0:40:41 > 0:40:44to the right corner. His choice.

0:40:55 > 0:41:01Obviously the pink is available. Well, I thought it must be, the way

0:41:01 > 0:41:07he's playing it. Well, it doesn't go, so why didn't he play the red to

0:41:07 > 0:41:09the right corner?

0:41:19 > 0:41:30It needs to run a bit, this. Just about got there, I think.

0:41:30 > 0:41:34His position isn't as he'd like it at the moment. It's one good shot

0:41:34 > 0:41:42just to get right back into correct position.

0:41:42 > 0:41:49It's been a struggle, this break, it really has. The red he dropped in

0:41:49 > 0:41:52the middle to play for the blue, he could have just dropped it and left

0:41:52 > 0:41:57more often angle, if he wanted to go up and down the table, but he didn't

0:41:57 > 0:42:04do that. So it will be the safety now.Of course break building is all

0:42:04 > 0:42:09about shot selection.

0:42:09 > 0:42:14So didn't make the most of that opportunity. OK, he's finished with

0:42:14 > 0:42:27a decent safety, but I frame-winning opportunity gone.

0:42:51 > 0:42:59The Chancellor long pot here. -- chance of a long pot here. Not close

0:42:59 > 0:43:08this time. But not a bad nudge off the brown.

0:43:14 > 0:43:18Definitely in the ascendancy at the moment. Mark Williams just can't

0:43:18 > 0:43:26quite get a foothold in this frame.

0:43:54 > 0:43:58Trying to sneak that cue ball in behind the yellow, but it was an

0:43:58 > 0:44:05almost impossible task. When there's only two balls in the baulk and it's

0:44:05 > 0:44:10hard to play a good safety. The only good safety you can get it if you

0:44:10 > 0:44:16get the cue ball tight to the baulk cushion, and that's not the best

0:44:16 > 0:44:23shot from him.

0:44:28 > 0:44:33It may not be a pot that Kyren fancies, but the cue ball being so

0:44:33 > 0:44:37far away from the cushion, you expect them to play better safety

0:44:37 > 0:44:46shot than Mark's.

0:44:58 > 0:45:03Trying to push a red down here, but the cue ball behind the blue. Played

0:45:03 > 0:45:05it beautifully.

0:45:10 > 0:45:17Now, unless there's a long cushion escape here, he's got a bit of a

0:45:17 > 0:45:21problem. It depends how close the cue ball is to the blue. If he's

0:45:21 > 0:45:29tied to the loo, well, he is, couldn't be much tighter. -- if he

0:45:29 > 0:45:38is tight on the blue.

0:45:56 > 0:46:01He's basically looking for a red he can play for, but he's going to have

0:46:01 > 0:46:08to go for at least two War three-cushions, you'd have thought.

0:46:08 > 0:46:15He's going to use the spider.

0:46:15 > 0:46:17He's going to use the spider. I didn't realise it was going to be

0:46:17 > 0:46:19this difficult.

0:46:24 > 0:46:29I mean, the cueing itself is extremely difficult. He's going to

0:46:29 > 0:46:36play sides cushion, top cushion, try to hit the loose one, by the green.

0:46:36 > 0:46:45Round the back, is he? Yeah.

0:46:46 > 0:46:51Mark will have a quick look but I think you'll have it replaced. I

0:46:51 > 0:46:57don't see any value in not having it replaced. This is a very difficult

0:46:57 > 0:47:01way to escape from this snooker. The funny thing is, I think the middle

0:47:01 > 0:47:06pocket might be in the way as well, the way he's trying to play off side

0:47:06 > 0:47:09cushion, I think the bump in the middle might be close.Yeah, at

0:47:09 > 0:47:14first I thought he was mainly going to play at off one cushion and try

0:47:14 > 0:47:18to hit the red on the right-hand side and not the one to the top

0:47:18 > 0:47:24cushion but the place -- the pace he played it, he's trying to come off

0:47:24 > 0:47:35two cushions. He's checking again, but it is tougher playing it this

0:47:35 > 0:47:43way. Maybe thinks he can do it.

0:47:48 > 0:47:56And there, as you said, the middle pocket in the way. Free ball but no

0:47:56 > 0:48:07value the free ball. -- no value in a free ball. I'd be surprised if he

0:48:07 > 0:48:12doesn't have it put back, because if he doesn't hit the middle pocket and

0:48:12 > 0:48:18he runs down the top cushion, there are a couple of reds that will go

0:48:18 > 0:48:22but he's decided to take the blue on but it's tricky. It counts as red,

0:48:22 > 0:48:27should it go in. APPLAUSE

0:48:27 > 0:48:35He's got it, dropped it in. And can just about hold for the blue. He's

0:48:35 > 0:48:43got a slight angle on it.

0:48:45 > 0:48:49Yeah, so what looked like a little baby snooker, could be one of the

0:48:49 > 0:48:52best shots he's going to play, because it's forced this

0:48:52 > 0:49:00opportunity, it's pottable, certainly this one is. As we always

0:49:00 > 0:49:09say, it's not getting out of the snooker is, it's what you leave.

0:49:09 > 0:49:14Book fair play to Mark, it must be sorely tempting to have it replaced,

0:49:14 > 0:49:18but you play the tricky blue and it's given him this chance. He'll

0:49:18 > 0:49:25try to hold the pink spot here.

0:49:27 > 0:49:31Has he holed-macro the pink spot? Certainly has. It's underneath the

0:49:31 > 0:49:38white.

0:49:40 > 0:49:45This is an excellent opportunity. The pink spot is now available, but

0:49:45 > 0:49:51that red to the right of the pink spot will also be available, so it's

0:49:51 > 0:49:59a choice. You can either play the black or the pink.

0:50:12 > 0:50:16This is excellent match play from Mark Williams at the minute. Hasn't

0:50:16 > 0:50:19really been involved so far this evening. He had that chance on the

0:50:19 > 0:50:23brown, didn't quite live it soon enough on the first and it wasn't

0:50:23 > 0:50:27subtle -- it wasn't looking so good in the second frame but that roll-up

0:50:27 > 0:50:33behind the blue, the snooker and his positional play has got him right

0:50:33 > 0:50:37back on this particular frame will

0:50:37 > 0:50:37positional play has got him right back on this particular frame will.

0:50:37 > 0:50:41He's one of those players I absolutely love to watch. He's very

0:50:41 > 0:50:47clever. He plays shots other players don't play.He placed shots of the

0:50:47 > 0:50:54players don't even think of. -- he plays shots other players don't even

0:50:54 > 0:51:00think of. He just got into that little bit too much, wanted a better

0:51:00 > 0:51:09angle on the black than this.

0:51:09 > 0:51:16There must be a red available to the middle. The fact he was straight on

0:51:16 > 0:51:20the black, well, it's not perfect, but he didn't have to do much with

0:51:20 > 0:51:28the cue ball. This is a tricky red.

0:51:34 > 0:51:42APPLAUSE

0:51:56 > 0:52:02He doesn't show much emotion, Mark, but I see him in his seat there and

0:52:02 > 0:52:06he looks a little bit annoyed with himself. An opportunity missed will

0:52:06 > 0:52:13he looks a little bit annoyed with himself. An opportunity missed will.

0:52:29 > 0:52:35Good pot, very close to the middle pocket. But he's OK, so good shot.

0:52:35 > 0:52:48Did to Mr Green. -- did well to miss the green.

0:52:57 > 0:53:02So the opening red was excellent. This red coming up is very important

0:53:02 > 0:53:12in this frame. A good pot, position on the pink and the red at the top

0:53:12 > 0:53:20of the cluster of four definitely pots.

0:53:22 > 0:53:27Now, has he got a decent angle to get back over for that? Because it

0:53:27 > 0:53:32only pots, you can see at their available, only pots in the same

0:53:32 > 0:53:37pocket as the pink, or the middle, if he chooses to go that way.I

0:53:37 > 0:53:42think he'll have to play for it in the middle. He's decided to run

0:53:42 > 0:53:45round, look at the way he's played this. Absolutely beautifully played

0:53:45 > 0:53:50for stop APPLAUSE

0:53:50 > 0:53:56What a great positional shot this is.Shot of the match so far for me.

0:53:56 > 0:54:00Absolutely wonderful and it is on an angle where he can run through and

0:54:00 > 0:54:06manoeuvre a couple of reds into position. Which is what he's tried

0:54:06 > 0:54:12to do. A force. Will

0:54:13 > 0:54:25to do. A force. Will -- a forceful stun. That was a brilliant shot.

0:54:32 > 0:54:42Ten points, the lead now, so these three reds. They will see him past

0:54:42 > 0:54:44the winning line in this frame.

0:55:07 > 0:55:11So Mark Williams was quite right to have a little grimace to himself in

0:55:11 > 0:55:19the chair, when he missed that red in the middle pocket.

0:55:19 > 0:55:26It's been an excellent response from Kyren. The opening red was very good

0:55:26 > 0:55:30and the positional shot round the angles off the pink, that was the

0:55:30 > 0:55:37shot of the match so far.

0:55:43 > 0:55:49Yeah, the one thing he had to do, cue its move so it avoided the kiss

0:55:49 > 0:55:55on the green. Got through it so well. That will give him lots of

0:55:55 > 0:55:59confidence when you hit a ball as sweet as that. Applause, as the blue

0:55:59 > 0:56:04is in, now 31 points the lead, just 27 remaining. I don't think any

0:56:04 > 0:56:09heroics with this yellow. At the warmer -- at the moment, two

0:56:09 > 0:56:17snookers will be required. That's the way to do it, just make certain.

0:56:17 > 0:56:21Because Mark Williams is one of these players that will carry on, if

0:56:21 > 0:56:32he needs one, two snookers, so take nothing for granted.

0:56:33 > 0:56:42But it looks as though Kyren has done enough the front. -- to be in

0:56:42 > 0:56:48front.

0:56:56 > 0:56:58Once again, those situations where I'm sure Mark Williams was nodding

0:56:58 > 0:57:05and saying, you've got the frame, the pink has made it awkward cueing,

0:57:05 > 0:57:08so this isn't an easy pot.

0:57:18 > 0:57:21Two four point snookers needed to tie.

0:58:33 > 0:58:36STUDIO: Well, it looks as if Kyren Wilson

0:58:36 > 0:58:40has done enough to win the second frame of this quarterfinal contest.

0:58:40 > 0:58:47He leads 1-0. Coverage continues on the BBC Sport website, we are out of

0:58:47 > 0:58:51time on BBC Two. My thanks to Steve Davis. I hope you can join us for

0:58:51 > 0:58:58quarterfinal highlights tonight. Goodbye for now.
