:00:51. > :00:55.Hello and welcome to Match of the Day 2. Four teams in action today -
:00:56. > :00:58.three of them chasing qualification for next year's Champions League,
:00:59. > :01:01.and one of them just hoping to remain in the top flight. We've got
:01:02. > :01:05.Mark Lawrenson, Martin Keown and Robbie Savage and January's Goal of
:01:06. > :01:16.the Month as well. But our first stop this evening is Old Trafford.
:01:17. > :01:22.Execution has too much expect patient, and by Manchester United's
:01:23. > :01:28.standards, this season has not been a success so far. But Fulham fans
:01:29. > :01:35.would probably bite your hand off for United's predicament. Rene
:01:36. > :01:38.Meulensteen has taken over from Martin Jol, and he has now been in
:01:39. > :01:45.charge for 11 league matches, only winning three of them. In those 11
:01:46. > :01:53.games, they have conceded 29 goals. Guy Mowbray was watching this one.
:01:54. > :02:00.Rock bottom was the assessment of Rene Meulensteen after the defeat to
:02:01. > :02:05.Sheffield united. At the upbeat demeanour showed by the squad today
:02:06. > :02:09.tells of a team which believes the only way is up. Manchester United
:02:10. > :02:21.have made three changes today. Income Darren Fletcher, Nemanja
:02:22. > :02:26.Vidic and Rafael. Full's new record by is not deemed ready for his debut
:02:27. > :02:32.yet, but two other signings are, Johnny Heitinga and Ryan
:02:33. > :02:39.Tunnicliffe. There is a first league start for 18-year-old Muamer
:02:40. > :02:43.Tankovic. And there is a return from injury for John Arne Riise. Three
:02:44. > :02:44.days on from the anniversary of the Munich air disaster, Old Trafford
:02:45. > :03:18.remembers. Darren Fletcher. Patrice Evra.
:03:19. > :03:22.Young. Fletcher. Lovely ball, well-controlled by van Persie. But
:03:23. > :03:29.is a good tackle, and another good one, from Heitinga.
:03:30. > :03:38.It has been quite a loop key -- a low-key opening 14 minutes, but
:03:39. > :03:39.then, for any of us who worked at Anfield yesterday, anything would be
:03:40. > :03:52.low-key. Fulham edging themselves into the
:03:53. > :03:58.game. Good ball, good run, and a fine finish! And Fulham have the
:03:59. > :04:03.lead! Well, that is a turn that few saw coming. It has been all
:04:04. > :04:08.Manchester United, they have been stroking it around without really
:04:09. > :04:11.threatening the Fulham goal. Fulham started to move forward, and with
:04:12. > :04:18.their first chance of the match, they have scored. There goes Steve
:04:19. > :04:22.Sidwell, nobody with him. And he does the rest, for his seventh Goal
:04:23. > :04:33.of the Season. Really well taken. No chance, de Gea, Manchester United
:04:34. > :04:38.are behind. No reaction from Rene Meulensteen to his team taking the
:04:39. > :04:49.lead. Plenty of chuntering going on in those seats, though. Tunnicliffe
:04:50. > :04:53.makes a run. Patrice Evra. Manchester United trying to hit
:04:54. > :05:01.back, with extra urgency now, moving a little more quickly. Van Persie
:05:02. > :05:11.just Mata leaves it to Rafael. Rafael! And van Persie has ballooned
:05:12. > :05:19.it. It is a Miss, actually. It was tough, on the volley, but you would
:05:20. > :05:25.expect him to do better than that. In goes Burn, then Richardson.
:05:26. > :05:33.Carrick drove it straight at Sidwell. Stekelenburg does not come
:05:34. > :05:39.for it, has to save it. Wayne Rooney into the mix. Cleared by Heitinga.
:05:40. > :05:43.18 minutes of the first half to go, then another 45. Fulham cannot carry
:05:44. > :06:04.on like this for ever. Corner to Manchester United. Rene
:06:05. > :06:07.Meulensteen revealed this week that Sir Alex Ferguson was the first man
:06:08. > :06:15.to reassure him, with his team struggling at the moment, sane,
:06:16. > :06:25.stick to your beliefs. Tankovic on the ball... Look at Kieran
:06:26. > :06:29.Richardson. Tankovic has found him! Richardson has sky it! What a chance
:06:30. > :06:36.on the counterattack for Fulham to make it two. It started from a
:06:37. > :06:40.Manchester United corner. Look at Richardson, covering the ground.
:06:41. > :06:45.Tankovic had options, he did nothing wrong. Richardson could have played
:06:46. > :06:56.it across goal. He saw the bright lights.
:06:57. > :07:15.Here is Rafael. Sidwell heads away. Carrick. Back in by Young. Dan Burn
:07:16. > :07:24.clears. In goes Carrick! Van Persie! And it is deflected behind. Carrick
:07:25. > :07:36.and van Persie, well, neither could find a path to goal. Out to Young.
:07:37. > :07:43.Loads of room for him. Goodness me, what a risk John Arne Riise took
:07:44. > :07:46.there. I think he was trying to chest it down to Stekelenburg, but
:07:47. > :07:56.it has bounced off his chest and gone over the crossbar.
:07:57. > :08:04.Another counter before half-time. Richardson, threatening to leave
:08:05. > :08:09.Vidic behind. But Rooney was tracking back this time. Never mind
:08:10. > :08:16.Manchester United's mission to finish fourth, what will this do to
:08:17. > :08:22.Fulham's efforts to avoid the drop to the Championship? Away by
:08:23. > :08:27.Stekelenburg. Rooney! Great save, what a save from the Dutch 'keeper.
:08:28. > :08:35.Rooney felt sure he had scored the equaliser.
:08:36. > :08:43.Back come Manchester United. Van Persie. He claims handball. Kevin
:08:44. > :08:47.Friend did not see anything. Dan Burn is going in, was it handball?
:08:48. > :09:08.Hard to tell from that. Evra has got it in, Januzaj missed
:09:09. > :09:14.it! Turned in by Mata! Van Persie! Manchester United are level. The
:09:15. > :09:21.siege has been rewarded. No great celebrations, and now, they are just
:09:22. > :09:26.hell-bent on winning the contest. Fulham's defiance, finally broken.
:09:27. > :09:32.Not before John Arne Riise had flung himself in the path of the ball
:09:33. > :09:37.again. Shot after shot after shot, and eventually, it has got to go in.
:09:38. > :09:46.Three in 34 van Persie since his comeback from injury. What relief
:09:47. > :09:52.for the Manchester United manager. 11 minutes to go. Up goes van
:09:53. > :10:12.Persie. Januzaj. Stekelenburg runs across
:10:13. > :10:19.the face. It comes back to Michael Carrick. And it is in! Almost in the
:10:20. > :10:27.blink of an eye, Manchester United have turned it around! If anything,
:10:28. > :10:35.once level, they only ramped up the intensity. Carrick had time to set
:10:36. > :10:42.himself. There is a big deflection on it, as Fulham bodies pile in
:10:43. > :10:48.again in a desperate bid to stop the shot. Away from Stekelenburg, into
:10:49. > :10:59.the corner. And from 1-0 down, in less than two minutes, Manchester
:11:00. > :11:04.United have scored twice. You could hear him roar above the thousands.
:11:05. > :11:10.Less than 90 seconds in between the two Manchester United goals. Holtby,
:11:11. > :11:17.deflected. It's nearly came to Sidwell. Vidic headed it away.
:11:18. > :11:22.Valencia. He has van Persie and Hernandez ahead of him. Valencia
:11:23. > :11:29.tries to do it by himself for a moment. Mata with the effort!
:11:30. > :11:36.Stekelenburg was beaten but it went wide. Manchester United almost
:11:37. > :11:43.giving Fulham a taste of their own medicine, with a counterattack. He
:11:44. > :11:50.is still managing to smile, Ray Wilkins as well. What else can you
:11:51. > :11:55.do? They brought 13 herewith a plan, and it was just about working.
:11:56. > :12:06.Vidic. Sidwell wins the ball. Richardson! Bent! It is in. Fulham
:12:07. > :12:12.have levelled. An incredible ending! David de Gea could not hold the shot
:12:13. > :12:19.by Richardson, and Aaron Bent has popped up to score. This could be a
:12:20. > :12:21.massive point for Fulham, and a huge two more dropped at home for
:12:22. > :12:33.Manchester United. Carrick wanted a free kick. In came Sidwell. It was
:12:34. > :12:43.too hot for de Gea to handle, and there was Darren Bent. He sensed the
:12:44. > :12:44.chance and it came to him. There is something for Fulham to celebrate,
:12:45. > :13:07.big-time. The feeling at Old Trafford is that
:13:08. > :13:08.of a home defeat, although it has ended all square, in the most
:13:09. > :13:25.extraordinary circumstances. It is one point, but it looked like
:13:26. > :13:30.three. I did not see it as struggling at over the line, but we
:13:31. > :13:33.kept defending well. The Manchester United game plan was
:13:34. > :13:40.straightforward, get it wide, get it in, a lot of early crosses, and I
:13:41. > :13:43.thought we defended well. Today was as bad as it gets. Today we
:13:44. > :13:49.dominated the game completely. Being 1-0 down was bad enough, although it
:13:50. > :13:53.could have been two at one point. But the amount of chances, the play
:13:54. > :13:59.we had, how we didn't win comfortably, I've no idea. We said
:14:00. > :14:01.before we came out that we have to believe. You have to believe coming
:14:02. > :14:06.at the dressing room that you come away with a minimum of one point,
:14:07. > :14:11.and hopefully that can be a platform to build on the rest of games. Has
:14:12. > :14:17.he surprised you how good he is going forward? That's one of his
:14:18. > :14:20.strengths, his timing is so good. That is something we want to utilise
:14:21. > :14:27.more but it requires a certain style of play. Being very adventurous in
:14:28. > :14:30.the beginning of time I took over has proved with some good
:14:31. > :14:36.performances but no results, so we need a balance. It is tough to take,
:14:37. > :14:41.but we are here at this great club, and we expect high things, and we
:14:42. > :14:46.think it will come round again. Do you think you are just on one at the
:14:47. > :14:52.moment? We feel like we have been on one of the six months at the
:14:53. > :14:57.moment. I think the way to prove this is to look at the average touch
:14:58. > :15:02.map. Over the course of the 90 minutes there isn't wonderful player
:15:03. > :15:05.in the attacking half. But that should highlight how good they were
:15:06. > :15:14.defensively -- macro-group temp one player. They lost -- Fulham player.
:15:15. > :15:20.They lost in the FA Cup, and if you go to Old Trafford, you don't think
:15:21. > :15:24.you will go for it, they sit there and counterattack they did it
:15:25. > :15:29.brilliantly. Two goals, two other chances on the counterattack. That
:15:30. > :15:34.highlight United's defensive frailties? I think it did. It was a
:15:35. > :15:38.catalogue of errors from the United defence, especially through the
:15:39. > :15:39.spine of the team. I will show you from the defensive midfielder 's
:15:40. > :15:48.point of view. Sidwell, good position, Rooney is
:15:49. > :15:52.decent, but Fletcher sees Sidwell running on and he thinks Rooney has
:15:53. > :15:58.got him. But he passes it to Fletcher there. Juan Mata steps out
:15:59. > :16:04.of the hole, and I don't know why he does it. It's a wide-open space for
:16:05. > :16:09.Sidwell to score. Tankovic makes a good run and I think he gets a bit
:16:10. > :16:14.obsessed. He's looking only at them. At this point, if you put an
:16:15. > :16:20.imaginary line down the pitch, you would not want to leave the space
:16:21. > :16:24.behind you. Evra should be across, and he is not. You just switches
:16:25. > :16:30.off. He can save the day for his team but he allows the ball in, and
:16:31. > :16:37.Holtby edges it in. Sidwell does the rest. It's just not good enough.
:16:38. > :16:44.This should have been 2-0. It should be Fletcher on the edge of the box.
:16:45. > :16:47.They break, and Rooney, he knows he will be in the full race with
:16:48. > :16:52.Richardson. Look at Vidic and Juan Mata trying to get back. Not dynamic
:16:53. > :17:00.and. Great pass from Tankovic and it should be 2-0. Another free kick,
:17:01. > :17:05.and desperate times. Vidic has to make contact. He has to make some
:17:06. > :17:07.sort of challenge. Richardson's place was phenomenal. A willing
:17:08. > :17:14.runner, and in the end Rooney gets back. This is the equaliser, Carrick
:17:15. > :17:19.should put it on. Valencia is appealing for the foul. The right
:17:20. > :17:24.weight of pass from Sidwell, who was magnificent. Four against four after
:17:25. > :17:31.90 minutes at Old Trafford. Good David De Gea do better, I'm not
:17:32. > :17:37.sure. -- could David De Gea do better? He could headed down,
:17:38. > :17:42.Vidic, but it is a 50/50. David De Gea I think could do better. Bent
:17:43. > :17:46.punishes them again in the last minute. What you are both saying is,
:17:47. > :17:53.it's not one big mistake for a goal or for a chance, there are several
:17:54. > :17:55.individual mistakes. You defend as a team, it is a unit, its
:17:56. > :18:00.communication between the compartments. When they went one
:18:01. > :18:05.goal down, they were chasing and they did not set up properly. You
:18:06. > :18:09.need a balance. Rene Meulensteen said he knew how United would play,
:18:10. > :18:11.get it wide, and get it in early. David Moyes denied that was the only
:18:12. > :18:20.way United play. I don't think it was ever one way.
:18:21. > :18:23.If you look at the stats, the crosses, the passes, I don't think
:18:24. > :18:28.we just went and crossed the ball. A lot of people would say that one of
:18:29. > :18:32.the big things that Manchester United do is that they play with wit
:18:33. > :18:42.and crossed the ball. It is in the genes. -- with wit. They had 81
:18:43. > :18:46.crosses today. The problem was half of them weren't good enough. The
:18:47. > :18:50.majority of times, they did not get past the first man. The other thing
:18:51. > :18:58.was, and we did the pitch map, so you know that for -- Fulham will
:18:59. > :19:04.have loads of bodies in the box. It's nearly always six against three
:19:05. > :19:06.from Manchester United. Unless the ball is absolutely accurate, Fulham
:19:07. > :19:11.will have the chance to win it and it's what they did. Even when
:19:12. > :19:16.Manchester United got it in there, Fulham were at them. All of a sudden
:19:17. > :19:19.Manchester United have made substitutions and they start to get
:19:20. > :19:26.bodies in there. They made it more difficult for Fulham. Lo and behold,
:19:27. > :19:30.they get the goals. Every time you went to Manchester united they had
:19:31. > :19:35.everybody in the box all the time. It was a real serious examination. I
:19:36. > :19:41.thought Manchester United made it a little bit too easy for Fulham. But
:19:42. > :19:51.they won't go into every game with Hernandez, Van Persie, Rooney, Juan
:19:52. > :20:00.Mata, Janet jazz jazz jam is as, so have they lost the ability to attack
:20:01. > :20:07.through the mill -- Zanuzaj 's. It is predictable, if you compare them
:20:08. > :20:11.to Chelsea, is -- you see them go through the middle, or out wide,
:20:12. > :20:16.they can be forced wide, and they kept crossing the ball. It was too
:20:17. > :20:22.predictable. You pointed out in the office, two or three times, Juan
:20:23. > :20:26.Mata dropped the ball. He's only played three games and it's
:20:27. > :20:31.difficult to get him in, but as Martin says, they haven't got those
:20:32. > :20:36.players between the lines. Rooney was right up front. Normally he
:20:37. > :20:40.drops off and you can play off him, but it didn't happen. Fulham have
:20:41. > :20:45.Liverpool at Craven Cottage at the weekend. Can they defend like that?
:20:46. > :20:51.Can the strategy work against all teams? Rene Meulensteen said in his
:20:52. > :20:56.press conference that they've attacked teams and got punished. I
:20:57. > :20:59.think at home, the onus is on you to go and attack. Do that against
:21:00. > :21:07.Liverpool, with soirees and storage... -- Luis Suarez and Daniel
:21:08. > :21:10.Sturridge. If you'd said you could go and get a point against
:21:11. > :21:16.Manchester United and Liverpool, you would snap their hand. Spurs against
:21:17. > :21:38.Everton, after you get the chance to decide January's goal of the month.
:21:39. > :21:47.Kolarov takes it away from Routledge. Toure ahead. Jacko on the
:21:48. > :21:51.other side. -- Dzeko on the other side. He might not need any of
:21:52. > :21:55.them. He doesn't. Toure making the little run, Dzeko to his right, but
:21:56. > :22:07.Kolarov deciding to go for glory himself. And glory is what he found.
:22:08. > :22:15.Hazard, shooting chance for him, and another, and he has scored. Thought
:22:16. > :22:20.he was going to shoot first time and Alex Bruce bought it, and that set
:22:21. > :22:26.Hazard up with a better position to shoot.
:22:27. > :22:36.Barry in support. He might fancy ago. He does! What a hit from Gareth
:22:37. > :22:44.Barry. There was no stopping that one.
:22:45. > :22:49.Last minute of the first half. Charlie Adam!
:22:50. > :23:01.What a strike. Well, there was no stopping this one. Through the legs
:23:02. > :23:08.of Skrtel. No chance for mini lay. -- Mignolet.
:23:09. > :23:17.Johnson. This is positive. Adam Johnson! From two goals down to 2-2.
:23:18. > :23:45.And he drove that past Boruc. Santi Cazorla. Giroud. Cazorla! 1-0.
:23:46. > :23:49.Finally Arsenal breakthrough. An intricate one touch triangle
:23:50. > :24:08.football finally prises open the Fulham defence. Toure onside.
:24:09. > :24:14.Well, Luis Suarez has scored some extraordinary goals this season. And
:24:15. > :24:26.that is up there from Daniel Sturridge.
:24:27. > :24:33.Young against Macnaughton. Still Ashley Young. Will he have a go? He
:24:34. > :24:37.is! Tremendous strike from Ashley Young. A little drop of the
:24:38. > :24:56.shoulder, saw the opportunity, and a really clean strike. Brunt with the
:24:57. > :24:59.strop -- strike. It's an absolutely brilliant strike from Chris Brunt.
:25:00. > :25:08.Perfectly placed into the far corner by Chris Brunt.
:25:09. > :25:17.Westwood picking up Benteke. Away from Steven Reid. An absolute
:25:18. > :25:24.screamer. What a piledriver from Fabien Delph! He just turns away
:25:25. > :25:29.from Steven Reid and then unleashes an absolute howitzer.
:25:30. > :25:44.There are the ten and you can vote on the website now.
:25:45. > :25:47.Right, next to White Hart Lane where Steve Wilson watched Spurs take on
:25:48. > :25:57.Everton. If anything Liverpool's win over
:25:58. > :26:01.Arsenal has only helped up the anti-for Spurs and Everton today.
:26:02. > :26:05.Defeat would leave either as real outsiders in the race for fourth
:26:06. > :26:11.place and a draw might not suit much either. Victory has to be the
:26:12. > :26:15.objective. Tim Sherwood leaves 4-4-2 for another day replacing salt Sardo
:26:16. > :26:25.with Dembele, who is fit after an ankle injury -- Soldado. Everton
:26:26. > :26:31.make three changes. They welcome back the dynamic Seamus Coleman from
:26:32. > :26:35.a hamstring injury. Steven Naismith returns, as does Steven Pienaar who
:26:36. > :26:45.never quite showed Spurs what he was capable of in his brief spell there.
:26:46. > :26:48.Traore, he's on the Everton bench. Interesting to see Steven Naismith
:26:49. > :26:52.at the top of the formation. Kevin Mirallas is capable of playing
:26:53. > :26:55.there, but that is where Naismith has started. He scored for Roberto
:26:56. > :26:59.Martinez in the comeback victory over Aston Villa and got a couple of
:27:00. > :27:08.goals in the FA Cup win at Stevenage. Coleman. Osmond turning
:27:09. > :27:12.away from Bentaleb. Looks for Coleman, doesn't quite get enough of
:27:13. > :27:15.it. Osman dragged it on his left foot, away from Bentaleb. There was
:27:16. > :27:21.a little window of opportunity there but it did not go over him. Lovely
:27:22. > :27:27.piece of plates from Lyon Osman. -- piece of play. Everton have taken as
:27:28. > :27:31.many points away as Spurs have taken a home. Kevin Mirallas with room to
:27:32. > :27:37.come into. Pienaar and Naismith forward. Osman arriving. Roses
:27:38. > :27:49.across as well. Corner. -- Rose 's cross. Pressure on Hugo Lloris.
:27:50. > :27:55.Headed away by Bentaleb but only to McCarthy. Good play.
:27:56. > :28:03.Osman, and a good save by Hugo Lloris. Really terrific save from
:28:04. > :28:12.the Frenchman because Osman headed beautifully. Good awareness from
:28:13. > :28:17.Pakistan -- just in Distin. -- mirabilis with a corner kick. The
:28:18. > :28:22.goalkick has been given. -- Kevin Moranis with a corner kick. Just in
:28:23. > :28:28.front of Adebayor. What about this for a save -- Kevin Mirallas. Great
:28:29. > :28:30.stop. We've played seven and a half minute and Leon Osman has had three
:28:31. > :28:34.chances to score. The curler, the shot saved, and a
:28:35. > :28:50.header from the resulting corner. Naismith beat Vertonghen. Osman
:28:51. > :28:52.cannot believe it. We have not played eight minutes yet and it's
:28:53. > :28:58.the fourth time he might have scored Everton. Terrific play by Naismith
:28:59. > :29:01.again. But it is too central from Osman and comfortable for Hugo
:29:02. > :29:11.Lloris. No wonder Tim Sherwood got out of his seat.
:29:12. > :29:22.Free kick is given for the foul on Paulinho. Kyle Walker was in all
:29:23. > :29:27.kinds of space. The foul might allow Christian Eriksen a chance to have a
:29:28. > :29:33.go for goal. And that was a decent effort. It had Tim Howard
:29:34. > :29:38.scrambling, and one or two behind his goal, wondering whether it was
:29:39. > :29:43.not going to drop in. Roy Hodgson here today. He has used 31 different
:29:44. > :29:54.players this season. He used 41 last season, and Gareth Barry has not
:29:55. > :29:59.been one of them. At the bio -- Adebayor in the middle. The
:30:00. > :30:03.forgotten man under AVB was nearly the main man once again under Tim
:30:04. > :30:09.Sherwood. Lovely ball in by Danny Rose. Had Adebayor scored here,
:30:10. > :30:14.Everton might have wondered whether he might have been offside. But he
:30:15. > :30:19.did not make contact. Tim Howard has not had to make a save in the first
:30:20. > :30:23.half. Tim Sherwood will be looking for an improvement in that regard in
:30:24. > :30:30.the second half. Paulinho pings it to Walker. Danger here. Eriksen in
:30:31. > :30:37.the middle! Corner kick. Lovely ball from Paulinho. And suddenly there
:30:38. > :30:49.was acres of space. Leighton Baines did well. Eriksen takes it. Free
:30:50. > :30:53.header, Dawson! What happened there? I am not sure what happened to the
:30:54. > :31:04.marking. It was a bit of a let off for Everton. McCarthy. McCarthy in
:31:05. > :31:13.quickly. Mirallas has got their ahead of Vertonghen. Naismith in
:31:14. > :31:21.support! Still going, over the top of the crossbar. Naismith turns and
:31:22. > :31:24.screams at Kevin Mirallas, who had two or three opportunities to play
:31:25. > :31:33.the Scotsman in. But three times he was ignored. These two finished
:31:34. > :31:43.fifth and sixth last season, and they are fifth and sixth again at
:31:44. > :31:51.the moment. Jagielka with the header, corner to Tottenham. Eriksen
:31:52. > :31:57.corner delivery. Adebayor's header! That was a real chance. He climbed
:31:58. > :32:09.well. Just perhaps did not get over it quite enough.
:32:10. > :32:29.Osman. Dembele. Naismith was too strong. Free kick. Taken to
:32:30. > :32:31.Adebayor. Adebayor! First shot on target in the entire game for
:32:32. > :32:39.Tottenham Hotspur, and they take the lead! Emmanuel Adebayor takes the
:32:40. > :32:43.salute. It was a quickly taken free kick, Everton were napping. I think
:32:44. > :32:49.he was just onside, played on by Distin. Tim Howard, beaten by the
:32:50. > :32:53.power of the shot. A bit of quick thinking from Walker with the free
:32:54. > :33:04.kick, and it was a really good finish. Tottenham lead with 25
:33:05. > :33:10.minutes to go. The man who Tim Sherwood restored from the murky
:33:11. > :33:27.shadows of White Hart Lane has rewarded him with his seventh Goal
:33:28. > :33:31.of the Season. Dembele. Adebayor. Tim Howard seemed confident enough
:33:32. > :33:36.that it was heading wide and over, and it did in the end. It could be a
:33:37. > :33:42.big, big victory, but a hard defeat for one of them to take. Tottenham
:33:43. > :33:46.have not won this yet. We are into a minimum of three added minutes.
:33:47. > :34:01.Coleman. Six in the middle just he goes down. Nothing doing. Ross
:34:02. > :34:08.Barkley. Still Barkley. And still going. Rose comes across, strong
:34:09. > :34:13.challenge, throw to Everton. But they thought they might have had a
:34:14. > :34:18.penalty here. He skipped away from Rose, Capoue came in to make the
:34:19. > :34:25.challenge, and Mark Clattenburg had a great view of it and decided not.
:34:26. > :34:30.Time is almost up. Still probing, still hoping, still passing. Ross
:34:31. > :34:39.Barkley has lost it to away. Here is Adebayor. Now, Jermaine Defoe. Tim
:34:40. > :34:43.Howard makes the save. But it is a corner to Tottenham. And that might
:34:44. > :34:50.be enough to see them over the line. Jermaine Defoe would have sealed it
:34:51. > :35:00.if he had scored. But it should be over by now anyway. Time is almost
:35:01. > :35:06.up. There is the whistle, and it is a victory Tottenham needed. Emmanuel
:35:07. > :35:11.Adebayor, with his seventh goal since Tim Sherwood decided to bring
:35:12. > :35:15.him in from the cold, and the big man rewards him again. Everton might
:35:16. > :35:19.feel that defeat is a little harsh on them, but it is a big win for
:35:20. > :35:29.Spurs. They go above Everton in the table. Hugo Lloris as in the game
:35:30. > :35:33.early on. We are very slow starters. But we got some
:35:34. > :35:38.information into them at half-time, and we turned it around. They never
:35:39. > :35:42.had a shot in the second half. What is your style for getting
:35:43. > :35:46.information into them?! Relaxed. For some reason, we were standing off
:35:47. > :35:51.them, and if you do that, they are going to open you up, and that is
:35:52. > :35:56.what they did. In the first half, we were by a mile we did not look like
:35:57. > :36:01.the away team. Had a real threat going forward. First goal was
:36:02. > :36:06.obviously important. But also, we defended really, really well. To
:36:07. > :36:11.switch off in one action from a dead ball situations, that is a harsh way
:36:12. > :36:17.to lose a football game. Do you see it now that it might go into the
:36:18. > :36:22.last couple of games, four teams still in with a shout of fourth
:36:23. > :36:25.place? Absolutely, it is going down to the wire. We have leapfrogged
:36:26. > :36:32.Everton today and we are chasing Liverpool. We are competing for the
:36:33. > :36:36.same aim, very close in the league, and judging by the performance, you
:36:37. > :36:42.feel that we are stronger going into the final 13 games. So, we need to
:36:43. > :36:46.make sure that we take this into our development and into our process, to
:36:47. > :36:50.make sure that we will get the points that we deserve from now
:36:51. > :36:54.until the end of the season. Both managers agreed that Spurs were slow
:36:55. > :37:02.out of the blocks in the first half, and Everton spurned several
:37:03. > :37:05.chances, and that it will be. The problem for them was that all of the
:37:06. > :37:13.chances came in that very early spell. With Lukaku not available,
:37:14. > :37:17.Naismith played as the front man, with Osman behind him. Osman was
:37:18. > :37:23.terrific in that early spell, he had so many opportunities. Great
:37:24. > :37:32.strike, a bit like the one swallows scored against Norwich. -- Luis
:37:33. > :37:38.Suarez. He looked like, as Roberto Martinez said, if Everton had scored
:37:39. > :37:42.in that period, they would have won easily. The great thing for
:37:43. > :37:45.Tottenham was that they did not play particularly well, and they managed
:37:46. > :37:51.to get three points. Again, Osman was central to everything. They had
:37:52. > :37:55.shot after shot in the first half, Spurs got their first shot on target
:37:56. > :38:01.in the second half, and that was the deciding moment. Martinez is right,
:38:02. > :38:05.too many experienced players switched off. You go back to Man
:38:06. > :38:11.United, a catalogue of errors, and it was the same here. I think this
:38:12. > :38:19.was a foul on Osman. They were lucky that was not given. Watch Gareth
:38:20. > :38:27.Barry, he tries to roll the ball back. Now, Naismith, he has put his
:38:28. > :38:32.arms in the air. Osman, he holds his head. They all turn their back.
:38:33. > :38:37.Adebayor points where he wants it to go. Jagielka has got his back
:38:38. > :38:44.turned, he is playing him onside. So many errors. That goal could be so
:38:45. > :38:52.easily stopped. It was poor play. They all switched off. Credit to
:38:53. > :38:57.Walker, he has seen it and played it. We credit Adebayor as well, for
:38:58. > :39:02.the power under strength to bring it down? Adebayor has been a sensation
:39:03. > :39:06.since Tim Sherwood has put him in the side. That is his sixth goal
:39:07. > :39:11.from ten appearances, he looks awesome at times. He does not need
:39:12. > :39:17.to be in good form, he gets a chance, and he has buried it. Gareth
:39:18. > :39:29.Barry had to stand in front of the ball, or kick the ball away. Or
:39:30. > :39:35.cheating? No, gamesmanship. Lets some may say naive, never mind
:39:36. > :39:38.honestly. OK, you are the three experienced professionals. Some
:39:39. > :39:43.would say old! Anyway, take us through what you think might have
:39:44. > :39:50.been a penalty. I thought Everton were very, very unlucky I think that
:39:51. > :39:58.is a stonewall penalty. Look at this angle. His shin catches him, it is a
:39:59. > :40:04.penalty! He has gone over his leg! I do not believe it is. I have watched
:40:05. > :40:11.Robbie watching 30 replays of that. So, why does he not book him? I
:40:12. > :40:14.think he was on his way to slipping, which is why the referee did not
:40:15. > :40:19.give a penalty. How much of an influence does this have on the race
:40:20. > :40:23.for fourth, or are Liverpool so impressive that they will get
:40:24. > :40:29.fourth? We say they are even in the title race. Yes, they are so
:40:30. > :40:32.impressive, Liverpool. Suarez and Sturridge and could are the best
:40:33. > :40:36.front three of all of those teams who are fighting for fourth. I think
:40:37. > :40:41.if Liverpool keep them fit, they will finish fourth. With Lukaku not
:40:42. > :40:46.available, Jelavic being allowed to leave to balance the books, in that
:40:47. > :40:49.final third, they are just lacking. For me, the way they lost to
:40:50. > :40:54.Liverpool recently as well, that was a hammer blow to their prospects to
:40:55. > :40:59.finishing in the top four. We will see Liverpool's win over Arsenal
:41:00. > :41:02.shortly, but if we are saying they are in the race for the title, then
:41:03. > :41:09.you would assume those top four will stay the same united can rule
:41:10. > :41:14.themselves out. Liverpool, in their current form, I think they will
:41:15. > :41:18.finish fourth. Of the four teams we have seen today, only Everton have
:41:19. > :41:24.probably had a regular centre back pairing this season. As that shown
:41:25. > :41:29.for you? Of all four, it is ironic that they are in a losing team
:41:30. > :41:32.today, but they are probably the best two. Sylvain Distin,
:41:33. > :41:35.particularly. He has made a living out of this. He is strong,
:41:36. > :41:42.uncompromising, does not take any risks. He is really difficult to get
:41:43. > :41:46.past. He just finds touch. But this fella, Jagielka, very clever, the
:41:47. > :41:51.way he stands up against a quicker man, Lennon. He waits for his
:41:52. > :41:54.opportunity and takes it off him. It is the way that he marshals that
:41:55. > :42:00.defence. It is first class. Comes away from Adebayor, mix the tackle,
:42:01. > :42:03.first class. The this, he is in line, he can see the danger on the
:42:04. > :42:07.edge of the box he decides to come out, and quickly gets back to that
:42:08. > :42:11.line, making sure there are. It is the way that he reads the game as
:42:12. > :42:17.well. Look at this one. Interception, no problem just but he
:42:18. > :42:21.switches off, this is criminal. You cannot turn your back on the ball.
:42:22. > :42:25.You have got to credit Kyle Walker. When he sees his number, he just
:42:26. > :42:28.wants to play a little pitching wedge into that area. The execution
:42:29. > :42:34.of this, by the way, great run from Adebayor. He has got a lot to do. He
:42:35. > :42:39.is ruthless. And that is what it is when you play at the top level, you
:42:40. > :42:43.cannot switch off. When you have a regular partnership, you know what
:42:44. > :42:46.your partner is going to do. And the two of them are pessimists, which
:42:47. > :42:49.you need to be, if you are a defender, you have got to expect
:42:50. > :42:57.your partner is going to miss the ball. The results of Goal of the
:42:58. > :43:00.Month coming up later. But we begin yesterday's action, starting with
:43:01. > :43:16.that amazing game at Anfield. 30 seconds into the match, Michael
:43:17. > :43:20.Oliver gives Steven Gerrard the chance to put the ball in, and he
:43:21. > :43:24.normally does well, and it into the net. Liverpool have scored. The
:43:25. > :43:31.goalkeeper who has kept the most clean sheets in the Premier league
:43:32. > :43:39.this season is briefed on already. -- beaten already. Skrtel again!
:43:40. > :43:42.Skrtel scores again. Liverpool two, Arsenal zero and we have not played
:43:43. > :43:48.ten minutes. Arsenal undone by set pieces. Henderson away with it. Look
:43:49. > :43:55.at Raheem Sterling. Henderson didn't, but it will come to him
:43:56. > :43:57.anyway. He makes it free! Arsenal's players look shocked -- makes it
:43:58. > :44:19.free. -- three. Ozil. Through for Daniel Sturridge. He is
:44:20. > :44:28.onto it. Four! An embarrassing first 20 minutes of Arsenal, dream for
:44:29. > :44:46.Brendan Rodgers and co-. . Storage -- storage -- Sterling has two, and
:44:47. > :44:51.any thoughts of the comeback is over. Oxlade-Chamberlain comes in,
:44:52. > :44:57.doesn't get there. A chance to at least get Arsenal on the board. And
:44:58. > :45:01.Arteta does. The goal is celebrated by those fans still in the ground as
:45:02. > :45:14.though it is one that has just won them the points.
:45:15. > :45:22.Negredo, off the bar. Manchester City very nearly open the scoring.
:45:23. > :45:35.Redmond draws him in. Is this a famous moment? Goodness me. Behind.
:45:36. > :45:47.And behind Pilkington. Norwich should have won it in the end.
:45:48. > :45:53.Lampard. Hazard. Beats Santon. Ivanovic. Eden Hazard, 1-0.
:45:54. > :45:57.Brilliant from Eden Hazard. He finished it brilliantly.
:45:58. > :46:07.Hazard. Brilliant. What a goal! What a goal by Eden Hazard. That is
:46:08. > :46:24.sensational. The referee has given a penalty.
:46:25. > :46:32.Samuel at went over in the penalty area -- Samuel Eto'o. 3-0. Eden
:46:33. > :46:41.Hazard with a hat-trick. A week ago this was Manchester
:46:42. > :46:45.City's title to lose, but now we are saying it is a four horse race, and
:46:46. > :46:51.I promised I wouldn't say horse, for club race. I still think it is
:46:52. > :46:55.Manchester City's to lose. Chelsea were great on Monday and City
:46:56. > :47:03.weren't good yesterday, but that's just two games. You think it is
:47:04. > :47:09.Chelsea's Toulouse. They have nine of the bottom 11 teams to play, and
:47:10. > :47:11.that performance in midweek against Manchester City was outstanding. I
:47:12. > :47:21.think Chelsea are the team to week -- beat. It probably is Chelsea's
:47:22. > :47:24.Toulouse. Mourinho, we are growing in respect of the way his team
:47:25. > :47:29.place, and he says they don't think they will win it and next year is
:47:30. > :47:33.more important. But on the inside he is desperate to win it. There comes
:47:34. > :47:36.a gut feeling from the group, and you can see it in their eyes that
:47:37. > :47:44.they fancy they will win it. Quite a lot of criticism for Ozil after the
:47:45. > :47:48.defeat yesterday. Is it justified? Yes, because of his reaction to
:47:49. > :47:53.losing the ball. Here is the touch map. He has touched the ball four
:47:54. > :47:58.times in his own half will stop if he offering nothing going forward --
:47:59. > :48:01.if he is offering nothing going forward, he has to offer it
:48:02. > :48:05.defensively. Here is the goal from the corner.
:48:06. > :48:12.He doesn't do anything. I want to show you his reaction, this is a ?42
:48:13. > :48:17.million player. Look at that for a reaction. That's not good enough for
:48:18. > :48:21.me. You put all your hopes on him to get goals, so you have to offer
:48:22. > :48:25.something defensively. A simple pass. OK, people give the ball away,
:48:26. > :48:29.but look at his reaction. I think that's really brought for somebody
:48:30. > :48:34.who Arsenal have put all their hoping. They didn't pay ?42 million
:48:35. > :48:39.for his body language or his defensive work. Well, offer
:48:40. > :48:45.something going forward, in the last eight games, no goals, two assists.
:48:46. > :48:52.Arsenal were 2-0 down after ten minutes, great as Liverpool were,
:48:53. > :48:57.but Arsene Wenger, he will think that they don't concede another
:48:58. > :49:00.goal, at least two - zero. Let's buy some time and we might get a goal
:49:01. > :49:05.and we might get back in the game. They were worse. They were caught in
:49:06. > :49:08.a storm and now they will pick through the pieces, tried to
:49:09. > :49:12.rebalance because they have conceded two goals from set pieces. Ozil
:49:13. > :49:17.could have done more and so could a lot of other players. There were few
:49:18. > :49:21.we could have highlighted. Is his place guaranteed in the team, that
:49:22. > :49:27.could be a problem, but I would stick with him. It's about getting
:49:28. > :49:32.the qualities he has got. I look at Jack Wilts and Alex
:49:33. > :49:39.Oxlade-Chamberlain when they lost more -- Jack Wilts. You have got it
:49:40. > :49:44.in for him. No, that is ?42 million worth. More Arsenal reaction
:49:45. > :49:53.probably to come after the rest of yesterday 's goals.
:49:54. > :50:09.Ford, for Chamakh -- would -- Ward. Tom Ince, debut goal. Welcome to the
:50:10. > :50:16.Premier League. Tom Ince takes, free header. A debut goal for Joe Ledley
:50:17. > :50:30.now. A good leap, but he has got so much space around him in there, Joe
:50:31. > :50:34.Ledley. Anichebe. Thievy, and he becomes the third debut goal scorer
:50:35. > :50:41.of the day. Chamakh, away from McCauley. Marouane Chamakh. Caught
:50:42. > :50:50.by Foster, penalty. Does the goalkeeper get a touch, I think he
:50:51. > :51:01.does. Chamakh, from the spot. Palace reclaim a 2-goal buffer.
:51:02. > :51:10.Bardsley. That is a terrible ball, a gift for Shane Long. Wes Brown with
:51:11. > :51:11.the challenge. He has caught him. Is it denying a goal-scoring
:51:12. > :51:25.opportunity? Yes, says Mike Jones. This time it is turned in. And Shane
:51:26. > :51:28.Long gets a little touch, just in front of the goalkeeper. And he
:51:29. > :51:33.scores his second goal in successive weeks.
:51:34. > :51:41.Hull City clearly like playing in the north-east. Djokovic might sink
:51:42. > :51:48.Sunderland here. His first goal in almost a year in the Premier league
:51:49. > :51:52.-- Jealvic. Surely now the points belonged to Hull City.
:51:53. > :52:00.Lambert. Brilliant. Utterly brilliant from Rickie Lambert.
:52:01. > :52:05.Southampton make the early breakthrough after just six minutes
:52:06. > :52:14.at Saint Mary 's. Add. Terrific ball. Odemwingie. Peter Odemwingie
:52:15. > :52:22.gets the equaliser for Stoke City. -- Adam. The ball forward was
:52:23. > :52:25.absolutely perfect. Driven in towards Lambert. It's gone all the
:52:26. > :52:36.way in. Goodness gracious me. Stephen Davis has got Southampton's
:52:37. > :52:40.second. Boruc Could not get there and it's gone in. Peter Crouch
:52:41. > :52:46.scores against his old club. It is 2-2 on the south coast.
:52:47. > :53:01.Downing. What a good goal! Nolan was there to finish it off.
:53:02. > :53:08.Fabien Delph, under pressure, dispossessed, a great chance for
:53:09. > :53:10.two, and it is too. Nolan again. What a big result this could be for
:53:11. > :53:29.West Ham. - it is two. Huw Jenkins the Swansea chairman
:53:30. > :53:33.made a bold call to offer Garry Monk the opportunity to lift the spirits
:53:34. > :53:40.for Swansea. Hernandez, Routledge in behind Fabiola. Routledge scores.
:53:41. > :53:50.Swansea take the lead. -- behind Fabiola -- Fabio. Routledge has it
:53:51. > :53:56.now. Too strong for Wilfried Bony. Dyer scoes! The smallest man on the
:53:57. > :54:05.pitch scoops -- stoops to conquer. - scores. Public's delivery. Wilfried
:54:06. > :54:09.Bony explanation not -- papilloma's delivery. He does it again. Seven
:54:10. > :54:11.goals in his last eight games. He couldn't have dreamt it would go
:54:12. > :54:19.this well last night. As well as lots of thank you is
:54:20. > :54:22.after the game, Garry Monk made a big thing about how he knows
:54:23. > :54:29.Swansea, the ethos of the club. Is that one of the reasons why he has
