:01:11. > :01:19.Adebayor, what a breakaway for Spurs. Rosicky event, brilliant.

:01:20. > :01:31.Simply magnificent. Cazorla, finally Arsenal breakthrough. Van Persie! A

:01:32. > :01:41.great effort, oh, fantastic! Wayne Rooney, what a goal. Oh, I say, what

:01:42. > :01:45.a goal, from Daniel Sturridge. But pride is only part of the story on

:01:46. > :01:49.Match Of The Day 2 tonight. It is also about a Barclays Premier League

:01:50. > :01:56.title race and fight for European places. We start at Old Trafford.

:01:57. > :02:00.Neuer-macro today is the first time in Premier League history that these

:02:01. > :02:03.two have met in the second half of the season with Liverpool sitting

:02:04. > :02:07.higher in the table. Just one more piece of evidence for those who

:02:08. > :02:11.believe we are witnessing a shift in north-west football, the rise and

:02:12. > :02:16.fall in equal measure of England's two most successful clubs, so now it

:02:17. > :02:21.is Liverpool on a title search and United desperate for a top four

:02:22. > :02:27.finish. Your commentator at Old Trafford, Steve Wilson.

:02:28. > :02:34.There has been a 40 point swing for Liverpool, on this time last

:02:35. > :02:40.season, then 29 behind United aren't now 11 ahead. Two seasons ago

:02:41. > :02:43.Liverpool scored 47 league goals. Their next league goal of this

:02:44. > :02:49.campaign will be their 74th, with ten games to play. But United have

:02:50. > :02:54.won ten of the last 11 against Liverpool here. And David Moyes

:02:55. > :02:57.makes one change to them, Nemanja Vidic replacing Chris Smalling,

:02:58. > :03:03.Rafael has shrugged off an ankle knock and say what you like with

:03:04. > :03:09.Januzaj, Mata and Rooney and Van Persie upfront, there should be is

:03:10. > :03:12.no SOS. Liverpool are complemented by Sterling replacing Coutinho.

:03:13. > :03:39.Sakho and Lucas are on their bench. Sturridge. A terrific ball into him

:03:40. > :03:40.from Jordan Henderson. 11th in his last 11. Sturridge is well off

:03:41. > :04:00.target with his right foot. Suarez here, running at Fellaini and

:04:01. > :04:03.Jones, still on his feet. Mark Clattenburg being asked here by

:04:04. > :04:09.Liverpool players whether this wasn't a foul. There was a little

:04:10. > :04:14.touch from Fellaini there, then he comes across, the first contact

:04:15. > :04:19.instigated by Suarez. Fellaini has caught the back of Suarez's right

:04:20. > :04:23.calf here. I don't think it is a big foul there. I don't think Jones does

:04:24. > :04:25.anything wrong but that is the contact, there, on Fellaini on

:04:26. > :04:42.Suarez, that might have been given. Gerrard, Rafael caught him and Mark

:04:43. > :04:47.Clattenburg shows Rafael the yellow card. And Steven Gerrard is down and

:04:48. > :04:50.in agony. That is a bad challenge. Have a look at this. It looks like a

:04:51. > :05:15.scissor action here. It is. Promising from Liverpool, they have

:05:16. > :05:23.five in this attack. Oh, hand ball! Penalty! Rafael, hand ball! Well, he

:05:24. > :05:26.has just been booked, Rafael, and Liverpool here are as politely as

:05:27. > :05:31.they can asking Mark Clattenburg whether Rafael shouldn't be sent

:05:32. > :05:37.off. And they may well think here that Rafael is going to be lucky to

:05:38. > :05:41.stay on. But stay on he is. It is a penalty to Liverpool. It could

:05:42. > :05:45.easily have been worse for Manchester United. Rafael could have

:05:46. > :05:46.gone. Steven Gerrard, who has 100% success rate from the spot busy

:05:47. > :06:01.season. Scores. Manchester United nil,

:06:02. > :06:07.Liverpool one. They have -- they celebrate in front of a baying

:06:08. > :06:10.Stretford end and Manchester United have fallen behind and may consider

:06:11. > :06:19.themselves fortunate that they still have 11 on the pitch.

:06:20. > :06:29.A great penalty, by the way. No saving that. Manchester United have

:06:30. > :06:33.recreated really anything you would call a proper opportunity yet.

:06:34. > :06:38.Liverpool have had three or four undertaken one from the spot. --

:06:39. > :06:49.undertaken one from the spot. Rooney, good save. Rooney again, a

:06:50. > :06:51.great block by Skrtel. Rooney once more, third time. Sterling forcing

:06:52. > :07:09.him away. Almost squeezed it through to

:07:10. > :07:14.Rafael. Rooney with two attempts. It was probably Manchester United's

:07:15. > :07:17.best attack of the half. An excellent flying stop from Mignolet

:07:18. > :07:26.and really's follow-up was blocked by Skrtel -- Rooney's follow-up was

:07:27. > :07:35.blocked by Skrtel. Get the second half under way. No substitutions

:07:36. > :07:39.from either side. Raheem Sterling, stretching his legs, and when he

:07:40. > :07:50.stretches them he is pretty nimble. Fellaini with a challenge on Suarez.

:07:51. > :07:58.A penalty! Liverpool have a penalty 25 seconds into the second half.

:07:59. > :07:59.Phil Jones Joe Allen. There is contact between Jones and Allen.

:08:00. > :08:15.Now, Steven Gerrard. Can he make it two? He can! He

:08:16. > :08:16.sprints towards the Liverpool fans. They have doubled their lead,

:08:17. > :08:37.seconds into the second half. Gerrard was another perfect penalty.

:08:38. > :08:42.He doubles Liverpool's and French -- advantage and Old Trafford is

:08:43. > :08:43.silent, almost, apart from a celebrating segment of Liverpool

:08:44. > :09:08.fans. Well, Manchester United are chasing

:09:09. > :09:15.Mark Clattenburg here. Nicely round the corner to Rafael. He did ever so

:09:16. > :09:21.well and Johnson, it did come off his right hand. Have a look at this.

:09:22. > :09:31.Much more visible to the fans behind the goal than it was to the referee.

:09:32. > :09:38.My just united appealing for everything. A huge appeal. --

:09:39. > :09:46.Manchester united appealing for everything. I don't think there was

:09:47. > :09:53.very much in it, is there? I am not sure it was in the box.

:09:54. > :09:58.Play on, says the referee. Jordan Henderson has got it despite the

:09:59. > :10:15.Vidic foul on Suarez. There is a retrospective yellow card

:10:16. > :10:17.for Nemanja Vidic. The referee played advantage because Henderson

:10:18. > :10:35.had it. Vidic has got a yellow card. Oh, he has been caught by Vidic. It

:10:36. > :10:40.is another penalty! It is another penalty and Nemanja Vidic is shown a

:10:41. > :10:45.second yellow card here and Manchester United are down to ten

:10:46. > :10:48.men and Nemanja Vidic is sent off against Liverpool, for the fourth

:10:49. > :11:03.time in his career. Oh, hold on, have a look. Nemanja

:11:04. > :11:08.Vidic slid in. I am not sure there is a lot of contact there on

:11:09. > :11:12.Sturridge, but the Manchester United captain is sent off. There has never

:11:13. > :11:22.been a hat-trick of penalties in Premier League football.

:11:23. > :11:32.Gerard macro -- Gerrard hits the post, the opportunity has gone for a

:11:33. > :11:35.history making hat-trick of penalties. Does it present

:11:36. > :11:39.Manchester united with an opportunity to salvage something

:11:40. > :11:47.from this game? But they are down to ten men. They are two down and there

:11:48. > :11:50.are only 12 to go. Sir Alex Ferguson watches on, like a lot of other

:11:51. > :11:52.Manchester United fans here today with a really despondent look on his

:11:53. > :12:11.face. Manchester United are saying that

:12:12. > :12:14.Sturridge dived. Surely Mark Clattenburg is not going to give

:12:15. > :12:19.Liverpool a fourth penalty? Daniel Sturridge thinks he should have

:12:20. > :12:25.done. That is a penalty. More of a penalty than the Vidic one. That is

:12:26. > :12:30.extraordinary. Liverpool should have had fourth penalty. Well, we might

:12:31. > :12:32.need Match Of The Day three, , four five just to go through all the

:12:33. > :12:40.penalty decisions in this game, let alone two. Suarez beats Jones, a

:12:41. > :12:44.magnificent save by De Gea. A magnificent save! What a stop by De

:12:45. > :13:08.Gea. It is one of the slaves of the

:13:09. > :13:13.season. -- saves. Manchester United fans, their support is magnificent.

:13:14. > :13:21.Luis Suarez has put it into the back of the Manchester united net and it

:13:22. > :13:28.is now game over! Manchester United, three down. Painful to

:13:29. > :13:36.watch. For their manager, painful to watch for their fans. The fans

:13:37. > :13:40.respond by simply making more noise. But Liverpool are three up at Old

:13:41. > :13:51.Trafford. He is just onside, I think, played on by Patrice Evra.

:13:52. > :14:01.Luis Suarez has scored for Liverpool. This is about as painful

:14:02. > :14:07.as it gets for Manchester United, who have won the title 13 times

:14:08. > :14:12.since Liverpool last won it. The Times they are changing. We had

:14:13. > :14:17.confidence and belief coming to hear that we could get a result and I our

:14:18. > :14:22.performance today and we scored three goals and arguably could have

:14:23. > :14:25.had five or six. Difficult with us all the decisions that were made

:14:26. > :14:30.quickly, but do you feel that Nemanja Vidic was fortunate with the

:14:31. > :14:33.third penalty? It is probably weak don't -- it is probably better we

:14:34. > :14:41.don't talk about any of them. Some of them were penalties. He has a

:14:42. > :14:45.choice, he has to stamp on him which he is not going to do because he is

:14:46. > :14:50.an honest player. It had no effect on the game. I remember a hat-trick

:14:51. > :14:55.of penalties donkeys years ago, you might have done the same? It was the

:14:56. > :15:00.first game I went to see, my dad took me against Coventry, there were

:15:01. > :15:07.3p. He was a better penalty taker than me so I could not match it. Are

:15:08. > :15:09.you realistically counting out Champions League qualification? I

:15:10. > :15:13.will try to keep winning the games. The teams above us are doing well.

:15:14. > :15:20.It looks as if we are long way off it. We will keep fighting for it. We

:15:21. > :15:24.are in the title race. Little -- before's today's game there was a

:15:25. > :15:34.question hanging over us, could we make a statement that they are

:15:35. > :15:38.genuine title contenders? We are. Kevin Kilbane and Danny Mills, there

:15:39. > :15:43.is no doubt that they are title contenders. They were utterly

:15:44. > :15:46.dominant at Old Trafford. They were fantastic, from the first moment.

:15:47. > :15:50.They were strong, they were aggressive, they were on the front

:15:51. > :15:54.foot, they wanted it more than Man United. Simple as that. The way they

:15:55. > :15:58.closed down in the early stages was superb. You can see one team that is

:15:59. > :16:03.on the up, with confidence, playing well, and another team which is a

:16:04. > :16:05.shadow of their former selves. I think they were better in every

:16:06. > :16:09.department, with and without the ball, they were outstanding. But I

:16:10. > :16:14.think the two key factors in the game today, first of all,

:16:15. > :16:16.Liverpool's effectiveness at getting in behind the Manchester United

:16:17. > :16:21.defence, and on the flip side to that, Manchester United's in

:16:22. > :16:25.effectiveness at getting in behind Liverpool. That was the key. We felt

:16:26. > :16:30.throughout the game that it was going to be those two up front, so

:16:31. > :16:37.worries and Sturridge today would be the key factors. They were always

:16:38. > :16:41.looking to get in behind, to stretch the opposition. On the flip side,

:16:42. > :16:46.van Persie Rooney, there was space at times in behind the Liverpool

:16:47. > :16:50.defence, but they were reluctant to get in there. The Liverpool defence

:16:51. > :16:54.was forcing them back, every time van Persie was in possession, act

:16:55. > :16:59.towards his own goal. This was outstanding forward play from

:17:00. > :17:03.Sturridge. Again, his first movement is to look to play on the shoulder,

:17:04. > :17:08.to get in behind. Another chance created for him there. He had

:17:09. > :17:13.opportunities very early in the game. Van Persie's movement is to

:17:14. > :17:19.come wide. Ideally, I would want him playing centrally. Just did not do

:17:20. > :17:25.that, he was not playing off the shoulder of Agger and Skrtel. You

:17:26. > :17:33.can see here, there is very little space. There is in behind. They are

:17:34. > :17:37.on the edge of the 18 yard box. But that interception from Vidic created

:17:38. > :17:40.a chance, just because of the insistence of the Liverpool forward

:17:41. > :17:44.is to get in behind. On this occasion, van Persie comes out to

:17:45. > :17:48.the left, looking to hit a long, diagonal ball into Rooney. No real

:17:49. > :17:57.togetherness as a strikeforce, between those two. No ability to get

:17:58. > :18:01.in behind Liverpool. That was the key factor for me. At times, because

:18:02. > :18:04.they were stretching the defence, it got Sterling on the ball as well. It

:18:05. > :18:10.is Manchester United were dropping deeper. The question for United fans

:18:11. > :18:15.is, why is it happening like this? You have got Rooney and van Persie,

:18:16. > :18:18.both international strikers, you have got international midfielders,

:18:19. > :18:22.the same as Liverpool, but if you look at Robin van Persie's touch map

:18:23. > :18:28.and forward passes and things like that, the majority of his touches

:18:29. > :18:34.are out wide, as Kevin has said. So, is this a fault, as Kevin has

:18:35. > :18:38.highlighted, is it coming from the individual, is it how they are being

:18:39. > :18:43.coached, is it that van Persie and Rooney do not trust the midfield

:18:44. > :18:50.Hynd them? I think it is a little bit of everything. They have not got

:18:51. > :18:54.any out and out pace in their side. Rooney is not bad, he is more of a

:18:55. > :19:00.work. You have got Mata, van Persie, obviously. When you have got

:19:01. > :19:03.players running behind, it is very difficult for defenders. It is your

:19:04. > :19:07.worst nightmare. If you drop deep, it creates space in the midfield.

:19:08. > :19:13.Liverpool do it very well. So worries drops in, Steven Gerrard,

:19:14. > :19:19.Coutinho. Majesty united, because they have no pace, it is almost like

:19:20. > :19:22.Rooney needs himself to play the ball over the top for himself,

:19:23. > :19:28.because he does not trust anybody else. Van Persie is the same. Those

:19:29. > :19:34.two do not pass to each other. When you look at the two, with Suarez and

:19:35. > :19:39.Sturridge, certainly, their first movement is always to go in behind.

:19:40. > :19:42.Brendan Rodgers was a coach at Swansea, and he did really well with

:19:43. > :19:47.Scott Sinclair and Nathan Dyer as well, had them running in behind the

:19:48. > :19:52.opposition defence. He is doing it now, and he has Sterling who can

:19:53. > :19:55.also do it. To do that, you need on softish players. They will run in

:19:56. > :20:02.behind, they will not get the ball, but it creates problems for

:20:03. > :20:05.everybody else. -- unselfish players. Could the diamond which

:20:06. > :20:13.Liverpool used today work for Manchester United? Perhaps. It is a

:20:14. > :20:17.system which they could adopt. But Brendan Rodgers tinkers with it. He

:20:18. > :20:22.plays different systems for different games. I think he felt

:20:23. > :20:29.today, he wanted to try and get the two of them further up the pitch, to

:20:30. > :20:33.give freedom to Raheem Sterling. Brendan Rodgers spoke about the

:20:34. > :20:38.number of penalties Liverpool have got this season, and last season,

:20:39. > :20:46.and he said the same thing happened when he was at Swansea. They did

:20:47. > :20:50.have 16 spot kicks in his two seasons in charge. And they have had

:20:51. > :20:55.16 at Liverpool as well. They had three today, they could have had

:20:56. > :20:58.five or six. Quite easily. It is because they make things happen.

:20:59. > :21:02.They get the ball and they run at people. Again, as a defender, the

:21:03. > :21:07.last thing you need is a player running at you. It is a nightmare.

:21:08. > :21:12.Here, he is looking to get in behind. It is a clear behind, I

:21:13. > :21:16.think he is very unfortunate. Should've been a second yellow? I

:21:17. > :21:20.think once the penalty has been given, it is enough, but let off the

:21:21. > :21:26.law, yes, he should have been sent off. Once again, players running in

:21:27. > :21:30.behind. It is unselfish. Might not get the ball, but he is prepared to

:21:31. > :21:34.make it. Phil Jones was the wrong side, and it was a very, very clumsy

:21:35. > :21:39.challenge. I think Mark Clattenburg had a good game. This is a dive.

:21:40. > :21:47.Brendan Rodgers says he is an honest player. This shows that he is not.

:21:48. > :21:51.He he was not. That is a blatant dive. But I have to say it is the

:21:52. > :21:54.most incredible dive ever, as he makes it look so realistic for that

:21:55. > :21:59.but this one, it should have been a penalty. I cannot remember the last

:22:00. > :22:04.time a referee gave four penalties at Old Trafford. Certainly not when

:22:05. > :22:08.Fergie was in charge. And there was the one in the first half with

:22:09. > :22:11.Suarez, when he got stripped by Fellaini, maybe even twice. It could

:22:12. > :22:17.have been five penalties, which would have been strange. -- script.

:22:18. > :22:22.Our second match tonight is for three precious points, and the pride

:22:23. > :22:26.of North London. Pride is a word which will surely have been used in

:22:27. > :22:33.the Spurs dressing room following their collapse in the previous

:22:34. > :22:37.London derby. Spurs have had miserable trips here for each of the

:22:38. > :22:43.last 24 years, but I am not sure anyone of them will has been as bad

:22:44. > :22:48.as this one. Cannot get into the top four, if you are not a top team.

:22:49. > :23:03.Lack of characters. Too many of them are too nice to each other.

:23:04. > :23:13.And this one was watched by Jonathan Pearce. Always intense and

:23:14. > :23:16.supercharged, but this 173rd North London derby crackles with potential

:23:17. > :23:22.implication. If Spurs do not respond to Tim Sherwood's harsh words and

:23:23. > :23:25.clear demands, if they defend as poorly as they did against Chelsea,

:23:26. > :23:30.if they lose, they are surely out of the chase for a place in the top

:23:31. > :23:37.four. If Arsenal suffer a fourth defeat in five visits, then their

:23:38. > :23:40.title dream is surely over. Spurs make four changes from the poor

:23:41. > :23:48.performance against Benfica on Thursday. Bentaleb, Chadli, Rose and

:23:49. > :23:51.Townsend come in. Kieran Gibbs returns from injury, which is timely

:23:52. > :24:00.for Arsenal, and he replaces Vermaelen. Rosicky starts in place

:24:01. > :24:14.of the knotty. And Szczesny is back in goal. Naughton preferred to walk

:24:15. > :24:38.today. But nonetheless he is playing through the pain of a groin injury.

:24:39. > :24:44.-- preferred to Walker. Chadli has started on the right-hand side.

:24:45. > :24:54.Oxlade-Chamberlain working hard. Arsenal on a classic counterattack.

:24:55. > :25:01.Rosicky! Arsenal have the lead! What a start, what a goal. It is the kind

:25:02. > :25:13.of start which Spurs absolutely dreaded. And was it he has done it

:25:14. > :25:16.again against Tottenham. Oxlade-Chamberlain got lucky, but

:25:17. > :25:25.what a finish that is. An absolute cracker, from Tomas Rosicky. He

:25:26. > :25:29.scored back in January against Tottenham, and he's another car --

:25:30. > :25:49.and he has another, in this crucial derby today.

:25:50. > :25:57.Arsenal look comfortable there. To be fair, Spurs did not really put

:25:58. > :26:04.them under any pressure. Box later Berlin has got away! He has pushed

:26:05. > :26:12.it wide. -- Oxlade-Chamberlain has got away. A real opportunity for

:26:13. > :26:19.Arsenal to make it two. Podolski fuming on the far side, he wanted it

:26:20. > :26:23.played to him. And Tim Sherwood again shows the passion for which he

:26:24. > :26:29.has now become known as the Spurs manager.

:26:30. > :26:36.One of the differences between the Arsenal this season and the team of

:26:37. > :26:44.a couple of years ago, they have tended to do well this season after

:26:45. > :26:52.European games. The red-hot atmosphere of the North London derby

:26:53. > :26:57.showing itself there. He has given the player a strict telling off. He

:26:58. > :27:03.took his time to make the decision, and decided on a yellow card. Lovely

:27:04. > :27:07.to see Pat Reiss here. Arsenal legend, part of the side which won

:27:08. > :27:18.the double in 1971. He has been ill recently. Assistant manager for a

:27:19. > :27:27.long time. Good to see him here. But touch from Arteta.

:27:28. > :27:36.Just behind Rosicky. Oxlade-Chamberlain! Podolski had

:27:37. > :27:46.exactly the right aim to pull it back to Rosicky. It was behind him.

:27:47. > :27:53.Two Wins in ten for Arsenal on this ground. But they are leading here.

:27:54. > :28:01.Adebayor! The goalkeeper would have been powerless. Tottenham, very

:28:02. > :28:07.close. Lovely work on the right-hand side. Arsenal were sucked in

:28:08. > :28:27.dangerously, let the runner getaway. Just wide.

:28:28. > :28:39.Szczesny comes, spills it. He thought he was fouled. Rose took it

:28:40. > :28:47.well. That will get the White Hart Lane faithful going. Down the line

:28:48. > :28:52.from Kaboul. Szczesny has dropped it! Must be an equaliser! Great

:28:53. > :28:58.block by Koscielny! And Spurs should have been level. Arsenal have a free

:28:59. > :29:04.kick for the foul on was icky. He was unnerved by the first one, when

:29:05. > :29:09.he spilled it under pressure. And there, he was stretched, Szczesny. A

:29:10. > :29:35.great block by Koscielny. It's just needed a touch from

:29:36. > :29:41.Chadli, but it did not come. All it needed was the finish. He knows his

:29:42. > :29:54.side has missed and squandered chances. Adebayor did well.

:29:55. > :30:09.Adebayor! So close. He has worked hard for Spurs. Tim Sherwood has

:30:10. > :30:14.been critical of a lack of effort, a lack of guts, from some of his

:30:15. > :30:15.players, but surely he cannot lay any of those criticisms at the door

:30:16. > :30:34.of Emmanuel Adebayor. That is a yellow card against

:30:35. > :30:40.Betanin. That looked a poor challenge to me. -- against

:30:41. > :30:44.Vertonghen. Hague claimed to claim the ball and will claim he got it,

:30:45. > :30:53.it looks worse initially than it actually was. Arteta with a free

:30:54. > :31:02.kick into the box. Was Koscielny being pulled back there? Nothing

:31:03. > :31:07.given. His arms all over Koscielny there. Vertonghen.

:31:08. > :31:13.The referee may not have had a clear view of it. I don't think Mike Dean

:31:14. > :31:18.could see it through the crowd of players.

:31:19. > :31:31.Giroud, all alone and fouled by Rose.

:31:32. > :31:37.Mertesacker was there, a good save, Hugo Lloris. Mertesacker scored at

:31:38. > :31:42.home and away against Spurs last season. He has a habit of troubling

:31:43. > :31:47.them at set pieces. A really good safe by Lloris. Had to react

:31:48. > :32:02.quickly, to get lowdown to his right side and did well.

:32:03. > :32:09.Cazorla claims the throw and gets it.

:32:10. > :32:15.Sherwood seemed to throw the ball then at Sagna, who wasn't very happy

:32:16. > :32:26.about it. Arteta comes across to moan and groan. And this was all

:32:27. > :32:30.very, very silly. Well, he does wear his heart on his sleeve, Tim

:32:31. > :32:35.Sherwood. It is a north London derby going against his team and he is a

:32:36. > :32:42.fierce Spurs man. He tended to throw the ball and he seemed to throw the

:32:43. > :32:47.ball very hard at Sagna. There is no explaining the situation. There is a

:32:48. > :32:53.handshake and that should be the end of it. There have been reactions in

:32:54. > :32:57.the dugouts recently from managers, raising the question should be be

:32:58. > :32:59.there at all. They did not use to be there, they used to be in the

:33:00. > :33:13.stands. A great effort. A good save. Almost

:33:14. > :33:17.fated that it would be Adebayor with the final contribution in the game

:33:18. > :33:22.against his old team but it was not to be. An unbelievable start,

:33:23. > :33:28.especially from Tomas Rosicky and the goal coming from nowhere. After

:33:29. > :33:33.that, of course in the second half we had to absorb a lot of pressure

:33:34. > :33:42.but apart from one crosses from the left I think they had not a lot.

:33:43. > :33:48.Body blows, behind after one minute or whatever it was, I wonder strike

:33:49. > :33:52.from Rosicky. We never got our heads down, grouped together and performed

:33:53. > :33:55.very well on the day. Why Bobby Moore to start you gave the game

:33:56. > :34:03.today. Could you believe that? It was very quick. I put the ball to

:34:04. > :34:08.Alex, who was there, but his technique wasn't the best and the

:34:09. > :34:14.ball bounced back to me and I just wanted to hit the far post and I hit

:34:15. > :34:19.it nicely. It was a must win game. We played Everton just before, the

:34:20. > :34:25.succession of games of that intensity. It is always difficult.

:34:26. > :34:30.You have had so many must win games, I was at the first one all those

:34:31. > :34:36.years ago. It was a must win as well. Do you think you will get to

:34:37. > :34:41.1000? Never, honestly, no. That 1000th game was it at Stamford

:34:42. > :34:46.Bridge next weekend for Arsene Wenger. After the game Tim Sherwood

:34:47. > :34:49.said I think the result for Arsenal wallpaper over a lot of cracks. They

:34:50. > :34:55.were outplayed today. You could look at that another way up and say

:34:56. > :35:00.Arsenal ground out a 1-0 win in a local derby. Which they did. It was

:35:01. > :35:03.an improvement from Tottenham's point of view. They did cause

:35:04. > :35:07.problems but they didn't have enough goal attempts on target and I think

:35:08. > :35:11.they hit a lot of diagonal balls into Adebayor, who played quite well

:35:12. > :35:15.but overall it was a good performance from Arsenal away from

:35:16. > :35:18.home in a big derby. They have fewer successful policies than they have

:35:19. > :35:26.managed in five years did Arsenal, soak Spurs did get at them --

:35:27. > :35:29.passes. They dominated possession and probably were the better side

:35:30. > :35:32.but they did not create too many clear-cut opportunities. Chadli have

:35:33. > :35:37.the opportunity where he should have done better. He panicked in the box

:35:38. > :35:41.and blasted at Koscielny and Mertesacker after Szczesny had

:35:42. > :35:45.missed it, a bit of confusion, but apart from that they did not have

:35:46. > :35:49.too many clear-cut opportunities. That will be the disappointing

:35:50. > :35:53.thing. Tomas Rosicky might complain about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's

:35:54. > :35:59.touch but you can't complain about how he struck this ball? It was a

:36:00. > :36:02.poor touch from Oxlade-Chamberlain but what is it has come through to

:36:03. > :36:10.him it fatter absolutely perfectly for him. -- it sat up absolutely

:36:11. > :36:14.perfect for him. The way he struck it with the outside of his right

:36:15. > :36:18.foot, a bit of fade into the top corner, a wonderful strike and a

:36:19. > :36:23.wonderful start to the game. You still have to thump it right, don't

:36:24. > :36:28.you? You have, it is great technique. He hits it at nearly 70

:36:29. > :36:29.miles an hour, but does not try to hit it too hard.

:36:30. > :36:30.technique. He hits it at nearly 70 miles an hour, but does not try It

:36:31. > :36:34.is superb technique but because it sits up he gets that bit of bend on

:36:35. > :36:39.the outside of his foot and shakes it nicely. You talked about how

:36:40. > :36:44.Spurs put cross after cross in and Mertesacker and Koscielny dealt with

:36:45. > :36:48.it all afternoon. There were times when they were direct into Adebayor

:36:49. > :36:52.upfront and Adebayor played quite well, cause problems, but a majority

:36:53. > :36:55.of the crosses that were coming in were easily dealt with from

:36:56. > :36:59.Mertesacker and Koscielny and they both had outstanding games today, in

:37:00. > :37:06.the heart of the defence and a lot of times they were creating the

:37:07. > :37:10.attacks off the back of a good play defensively. Crosses our bread and

:37:11. > :37:15.butter for those two, Mertesacker is very tall and doesn't like being

:37:16. > :37:19.turned and having those quick plays in and around him. Suarez and

:37:20. > :37:24.Sturridge rip them apart, gave them all sorts of problemss but if you

:37:25. > :37:30.are just putting crosses in they are very... It is like the first game

:37:31. > :37:34.all over again. All day long, there were four or five successful crosses

:37:35. > :37:37.for Tottenham and they had blows, nearly 30 crosses that they had and

:37:38. > :37:43.it was easy, time after time it comes in. The keeper nearly makes a

:37:44. > :37:47.mess of it, this is where he should score, but it is bread and butter.

:37:48. > :37:54.It is so easy for those big players to keep heading the ball. It shows

:37:55. > :37:57.the desire to defend. They both get back round Szczesny and make

:37:58. > :38:01.themselves as big as possible. They should have scored but you have to

:38:02. > :38:05.give credit to defenders and how they guarded the goal and defended

:38:06. > :38:08.it so well. One final line on Spurs, do you think the players have

:38:09. > :38:15.responded to what Tim Sherwood said after the Chelsea game last week? Or

:38:16. > :38:18.is that difficult to tell? They are always likely to respond in a north

:38:19. > :38:20.London derby. It is that difficult to tell? They are always likely to

:38:21. > :38:23.respond in a north London derby. It's difficult for Tim Sherwood,

:38:24. > :38:26.very uncertain of its future. He tried to set his stall out and put

:38:27. > :38:29.his mark on a team that he hasn't had an awful lot of influence over

:38:30. > :38:35.in terms of signings. He had the transfer window and one or two loan

:38:36. > :38:38.signings, a difficult position, a new manager and he might not be

:38:39. > :38:42.there at the end of the season. We will look at the title race in a

:38:43. > :38:46.moment but don't forget the next weekend it is sports relief.

:38:47. > :38:51.Congratulations to Alan Shearer and Robbie Savage for managing to sit

:38:52. > :38:55.down all week on 90,000 seats at Wembley and to remind you can still

:38:56. > :39:00.do your bit by entering the battle of the backsides, so to speak, and

:39:01. > :39:06.win tickets to the World Cup in Brazil. The FA Cup final and much

:39:07. > :39:09.more. All you have to do is go to bbc.co.uk/backsides. Entry is just

:39:10. > :39:16.?5 and goes directly to Sport Relief. So what of the title

:39:17. > :39:18.favourites then? It was an eventful day for two of them. We begin our

:39:19. > :39:39.look back at the KC Stadium. The patients about Manchester City

:39:40. > :39:43.here. A bit of trouble for Kompany, really struggling against Jelavic

:39:44. > :39:48.and Jelavic down and Kompany is in trouble. He is straight off! Inside

:39:49. > :39:54.the first ten minutes of the match, Manchester City lose their captain.

:39:55. > :39:56.They are down to ten. A disgruntled Kompany leaves the arena, lashing

:39:57. > :40:10.out in frustration. Silva floating around into space.

:40:11. > :40:13.Oh, what a goal! Absolutely brilliant from David Silva! The

:40:14. > :40:16.perfect response from Manchester City to going down to ten men. That

:40:17. > :40:31.is his first goal in 18. Boyd could begin here, Hart comes

:40:32. > :40:37.out. What does Lee Mason think? No, he has given it to Manchester City.

:40:38. > :40:42.And Boyd, squaring up to Joe Hart some mother city goalkeeper and Lee

:40:43. > :40:47.Mason has got a little bit of sorting out Edu. Jelavic is involved

:40:48. > :40:50.as well. It was a very tight corner for the referee. A feisty

:40:51. > :41:02.confrontation between the pair of them.

:41:03. > :41:10.Great movement by Jacko, it is all over now. It is a big, big win for

:41:11. > :41:16.the ten men of Manchester City -- Dzeko. The score of the first,

:41:17. > :41:17.Silva, is the creator of the second. Happier times for Manuel Pellegrini

:41:18. > :41:33.again. Willian with the Chelsea corner. It

:41:34. > :41:40.is all the way through and Matic has managed to squeeze the ball in.

:41:41. > :41:43.Chelsea take the lead. Now, has it been disallowed? I think it has.

:41:44. > :41:59.Hand ball, is it? It is. Delph was impeded by Willian. He

:42:00. > :42:04.will go here, it is going to be a second yellow card for Willian.

:42:05. > :42:06.Yellow is out, read is out, Willian is going. He could not take that

:42:07. > :42:35.risk, but he did. It is in! Delph has scored! Look at

:42:36. > :42:40.the end, listen to the whole tend. Villa get the lead. Brilliant work

:42:41. > :42:49.from Delph. Did he mean that? If he did, it is a touch of genius.

:42:50. > :42:54.Villa are furious with the way Ramires went into that tackle and it

:42:55. > :42:58.has spilled over to the touchline. There are fingers being pointed,

:42:59. > :43:05.Agbonlahor is out. The feeling is Ramiro has jumped in. -- Ramires has

:43:06. > :43:09.jumped in. It is a straight red card. He is sent off at Villa Park.

:43:10. > :43:15.Jose Mourinho doesn't want to let this life. Is he being sent away as

:43:16. > :43:22.well? Jose Mourinho, sent to the stands as well.

:43:23. > :43:26.And off he went to the stands with Chelsea six clear of Manchester City

:43:27. > :43:30.now, four clear of Liverpool and Arsenal three below obviously have

:43:31. > :43:34.those games in hand. Even though the fourth and Manchester City in pole

:43:35. > :43:37.position for you? I think so, certainly after yesterday's

:43:38. > :43:41.performance and the result. The man, off the back of a really tough week,

:43:42. > :43:45.going back to ten men so early in the game, they performed so well

:43:46. > :43:50.yesterday and that has really put Manchester City right back in the

:43:51. > :43:54.hunt. They were fading a little bit. City are the favourites for me. They

:43:55. > :43:58.haven't got any other distractions as well. They can focus on this,

:43:59. > :44:02.they don't have the Champions League to worry about. They have one or two

:44:03. > :44:09.injury problems, Aguero has still got the dodgy hamstring that isn't

:44:10. > :44:12.good. I think they have got a great squad and the loss yesterday for

:44:13. > :44:18.Chelsea is absolutely huge for Manchester City. But Liverpool, this

:44:19. > :44:22.is what we have talked about quite a lot recently, because City and

:44:23. > :44:26.Chelsea still have to go to Anfield and because that record at Anfield

:44:27. > :44:30.is so good, you get the feeling they might be, they are not with the

:44:31. > :44:34.bookies, but they could be second favourites behind City? That of the

:44:35. > :44:38.key game, they have played really well when they faced Manchester City

:44:39. > :44:42.this season and last seasons on, so one of the worst performances was

:44:43. > :44:46.down at Chelsea. Chelsea really outplayed them. They look a

:44:47. > :44:50.different side since the turn of the year, they are playing with more

:44:51. > :44:54.freedom and pace and they will be two games for them. Lets go from the

:44:55. > :44:59.top to the bottom and the sides worried about going down. We will

:45:00. > :45:03.start by taking a look at Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion, who

:45:04. > :45:09.played yesterday at the liberty. It was another poor start for West Brom

:45:10. > :45:17.and Pepe Mel. They went behind early, when Lamarr scored. They did

:45:18. > :45:20.the big thing on Match Of The Day last night about how West Brom

:45:21. > :45:27.really couldn't get forward in the first half yesterday -- Rob Roland

:45:28. > :45:28.Lamah scored. Lack of confidence is huge. The record

:45:29. > :45:32.Lamah scored. Lack of confidence is huge. The and the Pepe Mel has been

:45:33. > :45:35.almost disastrous. That win keeps them in the hunt for survival but I

:45:36. > :45:40.think they will struggle. I don't see them scoring enough goals to win

:45:41. > :45:45.enough games. Defensively they have been found at times but one point at

:45:46. > :45:49.this stage of the season is not enough. They might draw four or five

:45:50. > :45:58.but realistically they need to win four or five and I don't see it

:45:59. > :46:06.happening. Swansea did have chances to increase their lead. I think what

:46:07. > :46:10.is amazing, really, with West Brom, is their first half performances.

:46:11. > :46:13.They cannot seem to get any kind of performance together in the first

:46:14. > :46:18.half. All of a sudden, he gets them in at half-time, and we have seen it

:46:19. > :46:22.so often from them, a different team coming out for the second half. They

:46:23. > :46:27.have failed to score in the first half of eight out of nine matches

:46:28. > :46:33.under Pepe Mel. If only goals scored in the second half counted, they

:46:34. > :46:36.would have won five out of nine. It is all ifs and buts, but do you give

:46:37. > :46:47.him credit for turning things round at half-time in these games, or do

:46:48. > :46:54.you say, hang on, why are you not getting it right from the start? I

:46:55. > :46:58.think it has to be the latter. That is how you set yourself up. You do

:46:59. > :47:02.not think, we will have a bad first half and then we will put it right.

:47:03. > :47:07.Ideally, you would have a good first half, and then you can ease off. You

:47:08. > :47:12.want to get in front. Starting well is so vital in the Premier League.

:47:13. > :47:16.It is very, very difficult to up the tempo. Even when you make changes at

:47:17. > :47:23.half-time. Cannot keep getting away with that. Do you know what,

:47:24. > :47:26.sometimes he will not know why it is happening to him. Sometimes it just

:47:27. > :47:31.happens, all of a sudden, you are coming on stronger in the second

:47:32. > :47:42.half. I am sure it is Mr E to him as well. -- it is a mystery. And

:47:43. > :47:51.Swansea, with Garry Monk, firmly back in The Thick of it, just four

:47:52. > :47:55.points above the drop zone. A lot of those teams are still in trouble.

:47:56. > :47:58.There is not one of those teams which has made a managerial change,

:47:59. > :48:05.and you would say, massively successful, apart from Crystal

:48:06. > :48:12.Palace. A lot of them are really struggling, with their new foreign

:48:13. > :48:15.managers. I do sometimes wonder, is it sometimes easier for these teams

:48:16. > :48:22.to be playing away from home? I totally agree. I think it is

:48:23. > :48:27.difficult to play at home. If you do not get yourself in front early on

:48:28. > :48:39.in these games, the pressure starts to mount. You need an early goal to

:48:40. > :48:54.relieve that pressure. Now, yesterday's other games.

:48:55. > :49:04.Borini has found a bit of space. Borini! Is that the moment that has

:49:05. > :49:13.got away from Sunderland? It rocketed against the post. Ledley

:49:14. > :49:20.did not get there. Cameron Jerome. Dikgacoi! Big chance. Huge

:49:21. > :49:34.opportunity for Crystal Palace. And it was a let-off for Sunderland.

:49:35. > :49:42.Osman on to Della Valle. He goes for gold, and finds the net! Beating

:49:43. > :49:54.Marshall at his near post. And Everton in front. -- Deulofeu. In

:49:55. > :50:02.goes the free kick, and it is in! Cardiff City have equalised! Not the

:50:03. > :50:07.most beautiful goal you will ever see, but Cardiff will not worry

:50:08. > :50:17.about that. Barry at the back post. Seamus Coleman! It is in! Everton

:50:18. > :50:25.have won it. Cardiff City's players are on their knees, distraught. A

:50:26. > :50:34.crucial point snatched from them with seconds to go.

:50:35. > :50:52.Holtby, it is end to end. It is in! Mistake by Tim Krul. The substitute

:50:53. > :51:01.comes on for Fulham and gives them an absolutely precious goal. Krul

:51:02. > :51:08.has come up for this one, the last attack of the game. Fulham just need

:51:09. > :51:16.to get it away. It hit a hand. It is all over! Felix Magath celebrates

:51:17. > :51:19.his first win in charge of Fulham. Newcastle argue they should have had

:51:20. > :51:33.a spot kick right at the end. The penalty was not given, and Fulham

:51:34. > :51:39.will celebrate. A little touch from Rodriguez. Schneiderlin! 1-0,

:51:40. > :51:43.Southampton. It is his second goal of the season, and what a perfect

:51:44. > :51:51.start for Southampton. Just under five minutes played, and John Ruddy

:51:52. > :51:57.is beaten. It came off Bennett, and falls nicely for Lambert. Lambert!

:51:58. > :52:05.He has only just come on as a substitute. And Rickie Lambert has

:52:06. > :52:07.doubled Southampton's advantage. He looked as cool as you like. Three in

:52:08. > :52:22.the middle to aim for. Can Do Prado! The block from Ruddy.

:52:23. > :52:25.Lambert sets up Jay Rodriguez, and it is a third goal for Southampton.

:52:26. > :52:41.And surely, all three points. Given away by Fonte. Elmander gets a

:52:42. > :52:46.goal back for Norwich. In the scheme of things, it is not going to count

:52:47. > :52:50.for much. But something at last to cheer for those Norwich supporters.

:52:51. > :53:04.Southampton have given it away again! Elmander. It might drop.

:53:05. > :53:10.Grass! 3-2! -- it might drop for Snodgrass. Southampton, who looked

:53:11. > :53:17.so comfortable, now, most certainly are not. Southampton might be away

:53:18. > :53:25.here, following a slip by Tettey. Gallagher, can he finish it? It

:53:26. > :53:30.comes off Ruddy, and in! That is over the goal line, no doubt about

:53:31. > :53:34.it. And Sam Gallagher, right at the end of this match, has set Hugh Orde
