:00:36. > :00:38.This week, we're looking out over the rooftops

:00:39. > :00:41.of Manchester where I'm joined by Arsenal Ladies Captain Alex Scott

:00:42. > :00:43.and Comedian and Manchester United fan Justin Moorhouse to look

:00:44. > :00:49.Coming up on the show - Gary Lineker talks to Jose Mourinho

:00:50. > :00:51.about success and expectation at Manchester United.

:00:52. > :00:53.We're behind the scenes at Bournemouth with groundbreaking

:00:54. > :00:54.club photographer Sophie Cook; and Danny McLoughlin

:00:55. > :01:00.reflects on the loneliness of the international break.

:01:01. > :01:03.But first, let's take a look back at the last seven days

:01:04. > :01:25.In towards Romelu Lukaku. He finds the net, as he always does at

:01:26. > :01:36.Goodison Park. It gets all the way through to Niasse. It was tough for

:01:37. > :01:40.us. This is against the goalkeeper 's legs, extraordinary stuff, Josh

:01:41. > :01:48.King. We dug deep and change things and it is great to win again. That

:01:49. > :01:55.is a south side for Tottenham fans. To lose him for any period of time

:01:56. > :02:02.would be a disaster. Emre Can, good try, Emre Can to give Liverpool the

:02:03. > :02:07.lead. We have won and I am fine with that. Leicester City have confirmed

:02:08. > :02:12.that Craig Shakespeare will be in charge until the end of the season.

:02:13. > :02:18.I bear no grudges, neither does Claudio Ranieri and we have to try

:02:19. > :02:21.and move on as a football club. The Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has

:02:22. > :02:27.turned down the most lucrative contract offer in the club's

:02:28. > :02:31.history. Middlesbrough have sacked by Aitor Karanka with 11 games of

:02:32. > :02:36.the season remaining. They are looking for a new manager to try

:02:37. > :02:41.keep them in the league. Middlesbrough have done what five

:02:42. > :02:48.clubs have done, change their manager but have they left it too

:02:49. > :02:51.late? I think the timing is suspect. They are looking around, hole have

:02:52. > :02:56.done it and Swansea have done it and that has had an immediate effect and

:02:57. > :03:06.Middlesbrough need that. We will see if it is the right decision. They

:03:07. > :03:12.need goals. They just cannot seem to score. The rumour is that he has

:03:13. > :03:17.lost the dressing room. I have never lost a dressing room. They play

:03:18. > :03:23.Manchester United on Sunday. They are not expected to win so it gives

:03:24. > :03:27.them new guys a chance to settle in and then they have two big games,

:03:28. > :03:33.Hull and Swansea and if they win those, that will look great. Lester,

:03:34. > :03:36.it seems to be that Craig Shakespeare is not only getting a

:03:37. > :03:39.bit of bounce in the Premier League, but there are through to the

:03:40. > :03:47.quarterfinals of the Champions League and you can understand the

:03:48. > :03:50.thinking. He made the decision and people at the top have to make tough

:03:51. > :03:53.decisions. Only time will tell. Jose Mourinho is one of only

:03:54. > :03:56.a handful of managers in the modern game who guarantees trophies

:03:57. > :03:58.but managing Manchester United may Gary Lineker caught up with him

:03:59. > :04:15.before Monday's FA Cup # Something tells me I'm into

:04:16. > :04:18.something good... Jose Mourinho, how are you enjoying life at Manchester

:04:19. > :04:26.United? I am enjoying every moment of it. It is hard, it is difficult,

:04:27. > :04:32.but I knew that before. Manchester United has a name and a prestige and

:04:33. > :04:39.has something magical in football but attracts everyone. The hard part

:04:40. > :04:48.is the expectation. Because of their history of the club. I am also a

:04:49. > :04:55.little bit guilty of it because I am used to getting trophies with every

:04:56. > :05:03.club. The relationship between our two potential and the expectations

:05:04. > :05:12.we create, there is a gap. Kante finds a way. We are not ready to

:05:13. > :05:18.beat Manchester United. Manchester United out of the FA Cup. We are not

:05:19. > :05:24.ready to be the dominant force, we are not ready to try and win

:05:25. > :05:28.everything, because of our nature, the club, myself, also the players

:05:29. > :05:33.and also the will of the players, we are ready to fight for every game

:05:34. > :05:41.and fight for every point and every objective. But there is a space

:05:42. > :05:47.between the general ambition of such a giant club and what we are in

:05:48. > :05:51.reality. What a save! Are you satisfied generally with the

:05:52. > :05:55.progress you're making a Manchester United, you have already won a

:05:56. > :06:04.trophy? Many other teams in England will finish the season without a

:06:05. > :06:09.trophy and we have this and the Community Shield. We have to fight

:06:10. > :06:14.for top four and fight for a Champions League. I do not think the

:06:15. > :06:19.League Cup is enough for us to say, NDubz every recover the season is

:06:20. > :06:22.over. You talked about the expectations at Manchester United,

:06:23. > :06:26.but you have managed Inter Milan, Real Madrid, the very rich Chelsea

:06:27. > :06:35.team, how does it differ, is it bigger here? I am saying bigger, it

:06:36. > :06:45.was easier to get the objectives in the other clubs than here. Why do

:06:46. > :06:50.you think that? I think I found her sad club when I arrived here.

:06:51. > :06:55.Manchester United sold players that I would never sell and ball players

:06:56. > :06:59.I would never buy. Probably when I leave a club, people say the same. I

:07:00. > :07:06.would not be doing my job if I did not ask you which ones. Which ones?

:07:07. > :07:18.I would never have sold de Maria. She cherry to. Danny Welbeck. Never,

:07:19. > :07:25.no chance. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 2-0. What a finish that is! I have spoken

:07:26. > :07:28.to lots of Manchester United fans, they are enjoying the way this side

:07:29. > :07:34.is playing, is that something that you thought about? I try always to

:07:35. > :07:38.get the best out of my players and I try always my team to play the way

:07:39. > :07:43.it suits them and the way I think I can get the best out of them. We

:07:44. > :07:50.normally dominate matches, we normally have the ball and create a

:07:51. > :07:54.lot of chances. But, we need kill opponents, you cannot play open, you

:07:55. > :08:00.cannot play offensive, you do not kill, you are killed. I won so many

:08:01. > :08:03.matches and titles in my career, the other way around, being safe and

:08:04. > :08:09.under control, waiting for the mistake. I buy two, goodbye. Now, we

:08:10. > :08:14.have to kill matches to have the complete pleasure of playing well,

:08:15. > :08:18.playing in a certain way. I think we are missing this. What are you like

:08:19. > :08:26.personally after a game if the result has gone against you? Does it

:08:27. > :08:34.affect your mood? Always. But I think I have found a certain

:08:35. > :08:40.balance. Josh King, makes it 1-1. After a bad result, I make a joke,

:08:41. > :08:45.ten years ago, ie do not think so. I change, but I keep my nature and my

:08:46. > :08:53.nature is bad result, you're not happy. You do not want to be in the

:08:54. > :08:58.Europa League next season. I prefer to be in the Europa League than not.

:08:59. > :09:01.Nick season, if we do not play Champions League, I think we have to

:09:02. > :09:05.play the Europa League and try and win it. Do you need to qualify for

:09:06. > :09:11.the Champions League to attract the big players? I think Manchester

:09:12. > :09:14.United is very powerful. I do not think Manchester United needs to be

:09:15. > :09:19.in the Champions League to attract the best players. Honestly, we have

:09:20. > :09:26.got players that could be playing in the Champions League, Zlatan

:09:27. > :09:30.Ibrahimovic could be in Paris, we were able to attract the players

:09:31. > :09:34.because they know that Manchester United, sooner or later we will get

:09:35. > :09:38.there, I do not think it is really a problem and if any player decides

:09:39. > :09:43.not to come because of that, I am happy that they are not coming. Is

:09:44. > :09:48.it hard as a manager to keep big players happy when they are not in

:09:49. > :09:53.the starting line-up? It is impossible! It depends always on the

:09:54. > :09:56.nature of the player, the way Mickey dealt with it is difficult --

:09:57. > :10:05.Michael different from other players. He was not ready for this

:10:06. > :10:09.reality. Visit goal, mental competitiveness, also his body, to

:10:10. > :10:17.adapt to that physicality and that intensity, a little time to recover

:10:18. > :10:24.from March to March is hard. In the end, I think that is the less

:10:25. > :10:27.important thing. How happy are you with the progress of your summer

:10:28. > :10:38.signings, Paul Pogba is taking his time to adjust to English football

:10:39. > :10:42.and it is difficult? It is not easy. The country is so difficult from

:10:43. > :10:48.Italian football. I think it is really hard for him. I am not

:10:49. > :10:53.disappointed at all. The most important thing for me is his

:10:54. > :10:59.personality. With everything that surrounds them, he is professional,

:11:00. > :11:04.he will be just improving for sure. What would be your ultimate ambition

:11:05. > :11:09.for this club while you are manager? To restore it to its former

:11:10. > :11:13.greatness? Forget it. It is not possible. Do not try to go ten or 20

:11:14. > :11:20.years ago, it is not possible any more. I have many doubts that sea is

:11:21. > :11:23.going to be back to the Premier League, so winning titles, trying to

:11:24. > :11:29.get back to the Champions League, trying to win in Europe, but it has

:11:30. > :11:32.to be the empathy with the fans and the empathy with the fans is based

:11:33. > :11:40.on the quality of our football. This is something that has to be the base

:11:41. > :11:44.of everything. Last question, do you think you will be here longer than

:11:45. > :11:47.three years? Do you think you will spend the most time at this club? I

:11:48. > :11:54.would like to, I don't know, but I would like to. I am really happy and

:11:55. > :11:58.I really enjoy working here, so I would like to stay here until the

:11:59. > :12:05.owners of the board do not want me to stay here. Many things I got from

:12:06. > :12:09.that interview but one of the overriding things was his mood and

:12:10. > :12:12.demeanour and Jose Mourinho had this weird wobble at the beginning, it

:12:13. > :12:16.was almost like his honeymoon period lasted about three days but he seems

:12:17. > :12:20.more sanguine now as things were connected to the club, as a fan

:12:21. > :12:28.would you say that is the case? I absolutely adore the man. I am in

:12:29. > :12:33.love with Jose Mourinho. I think he is the kind of character we needed.

:12:34. > :12:37.He is a big man and he is filling big shoes that two people before him

:12:38. > :12:41.could not do and I think his approach to the game, his

:12:42. > :12:45.realisation of his own limitations and everything else in the squad and

:12:46. > :12:51.his honesty and openness, I am saying this all now, I mean if he

:12:52. > :12:58.goes back to Real Madrid, here's a dog! I think he is brilliant he fits

:12:59. > :13:04.hand in glove with what Manchester United right now. He gets the

:13:05. > :13:08.history and understands it. It is a bit disingenuous to say that your

:13:09. > :13:12.larder is empty when you have the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul

:13:13. > :13:17.Pogba. He manages expectations. He does and you can see it in the

:13:18. > :13:21.interview. He seems more settled and he is enjoying what he has taken on.

:13:22. > :13:26.It is interesting when he says we are not ready to beat the Manchester

:13:27. > :13:29.United and I totally agree with that because people referred to the

:13:30. > :13:33.greats when Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes were there but they have got

:13:34. > :13:37.Paul Pogba but they are not there yet. People go to Old Trafford and

:13:38. > :13:41.they do not fear going there, they know they can perhaps get a result

:13:42. > :13:46.and they need to get that aura about them again and I think Jose Mourinho

:13:47. > :13:52.needs time and he is building up. Fans are enjoying the way he is

:13:53. > :13:55.playing, the way Manchester United are playing. This is not the

:13:56. > :14:01.swashbuckling counterattacking great teams that Alex Ferguson had but it

:14:02. > :14:05.is not the turgid Louis van Gaal misery -fest. The fans are behind

:14:06. > :14:13.him and the fans are behind the players. We are turning this around

:14:14. > :14:17.especially players like Paul Pogba. He is they give it obviously one

:14:18. > :14:22.Zlatan Ibrahimovic to stay. He certainly played the man management

:14:23. > :14:27.well with Mkhitaryan. He has also said that he was surprised about the

:14:28. > :14:32.players who left Manchester United, the likes of Danny Welbeck. He was a

:14:33. > :14:35.fan favourite. When he goes out there on a summer spending spree, it

:14:36. > :14:42.will be interesting to see who he brings them.

:14:43. > :14:50.Everything is easier in hindsight but everyone was shocked when Danny

:14:51. > :14:54.Welbeck was sold. He was a Man U player, you want to keep those

:14:55. > :14:58.players in the team. Yes, and maybe, we also don't know what message he

:14:59. > :15:02.is sending to the dressing room. What kind of players he likes. Maybe

:15:03. > :15:08.they were popular in the dressing room. Especially Welbeck. It is a

:15:09. > :15:09.crying shame, Danny Welbeck left martial United. Good for us.

:15:10. > :15:12.Arsenal. Next to Bournemouth,

:15:13. > :15:14.where on Saturday we followed club photographer Sophie Cook,

:15:15. > :15:25.who has a fascinating story to tell. It was 1979, I told my parents I was

:15:26. > :15:29.going around a fraensd house and caught a train down to Brighton. I

:15:30. > :15:32.remember coming out of the railway station with 100 other mods and

:15:33. > :15:40.seeing ten rockers at the bottom of the road and chasing them all the

:15:41. > :15:45.way down the road. I'm still a mod. I had the vestas and Lady Thatcher

:15:46. > :15:52.ambrettas. Loved Brighton all my life. I love this town. It's part of

:15:53. > :15:56.me, I'm so proud to be here. I moved to Brighton because it has an amaze

:15:57. > :16:08.approximating LGBT reputation. I was born and Bournemouth. As a kid my

:16:09. > :16:12.dad used to take me back to watch them in the mid-'70s, the day of Ted

:16:13. > :16:16.McDougall and Bowyer. It is one of those teams that's in your blood. My

:16:17. > :16:21.granddad got me into photography when I was a cud. -- kid. I started

:16:22. > :16:26.working for the club probably about ten years ago, my first ever match

:16:27. > :16:30.as club forever was away at Stevenage on a freezing cold,

:16:31. > :16:39.October or something evening and it was - a far cry from where we are

:16:40. > :16:45.now. I've known I wasp transgender since he was seven. -- I was. In the

:16:46. > :16:48.mid-'70s no-one had a clue what it was. We didn't have the internet and

:16:49. > :16:51.didn't have that knowledge. It was difficult. That lack of knowledgep

:16:52. > :17:02.meant I didn't have a clue what was going on with me.

:17:03. > :17:09.I don't know if it went in or not apart from the reaction. All I see

:17:10. > :17:13.is a guy kicking a ball. I have no idea what happens after that. This

:17:14. > :17:16.was this period before I came out where I was so emotionally

:17:17. > :17:20.disconnected from everything and people look at old photos and they

:17:21. > :17:29.can just see the pain in the eyes. There is just no happiness there. My

:17:30. > :17:33.whole body has been a prison since I realised there was a difference

:17:34. > :17:37.between the genders. When you spend three, four decades looking in the

:17:38. > :17:42.mirror and the only thing you can see is your eyes because the rest of

:17:43. > :17:47.your body is in prison, it's like pain like no-one can imagine. I

:17:48. > :17:53.decided in January 2015 that I had to come out. But of course we were

:17:54. > :17:57.pushing for promotion at the time. So I sort of led a double life for

:17:58. > :18:01.the rest of that season. I was Sophie during the week and then I

:18:02. > :18:06.was going to football matches and pretending to be Steve. I remember

:18:07. > :18:11.when first started I did feel a lot of pressure and now it is like, you

:18:12. > :18:16.are at work, just doing a job. The day we became Football League

:18:17. > :18:20.champions at Cheltenham I was stood there on the pitch, I was terrified.

:18:21. > :18:25.I thought I was never, ever going to work in football again. There had

:18:26. > :18:30.never been a trans woman working in football. I thought when I came out,

:18:31. > :18:33.that was it. I was sort of umming and ahhing when I was going to tell

:18:34. > :18:38.the club. We were coming into preseason. I got hair extensions put

:18:39. > :18:40.in and I suddenly thought - oh, I can't just pretend to be Steve any

:18:41. > :18:52.more. Then I came in for a meeting and

:18:53. > :18:58.there was Jeff Moston the chairman. Eddie Howe the first team manager

:18:59. > :19:03.and Jason Tindall the sais and the manager and me in my pencil shirt

:19:04. > :19:09.and heels looking fabulous. The first time they had ever meet

:19:10. > :19:14.Sophie. Fist time I think they had ever met a Trans woman. Eddie said -

:19:15. > :19:18.what can I do to make it easier. But when you come out, you can't expect

:19:19. > :19:23.everyone to understand but for him to say, "What can I do to make it

:19:24. > :19:31.easier?" It sums him up as a person, I think.

:19:32. > :19:37.I hate to admit it, but it was my 50th birthday back in January.

:19:38. > :19:41.Before the game, Eddie presented me with a shirt which was - I was

:19:42. > :19:46.actually on the touchline in tears. It was such a beautiful gesture.

:19:47. > :19:53.When I came out, it was at a training session. They called all

:19:54. > :20:00.the players together and Jason Tindall the assistant manager said -

:20:01. > :20:05.I suppose you noticed our photographer had changed. Grown her

:20:06. > :20:10.hair and lost wait. The captain started clapping and the guys joined

:20:11. > :20:15.in. And then he said - let's go and train and I was sort of - was that

:20:16. > :20:20.it? I built it up so much on my head. Afterwards I sat down with

:20:21. > :20:23.players, and told them how he struggled with self-harm and

:20:24. > :20:30.suicide. It was important they knew this wasn't a whim, this was

:20:31. > :20:35.actually saving my life. Before I came out, I just didn't think - I

:20:36. > :20:38.didn't even think it was a possibility me still being in

:20:39. > :20:42.football. The reality is that it has been better than I could ever have

:20:43. > :20:45.imagined. I'm so pleased we've had that piece on this show. I started

:20:46. > :20:50.out in this business over 20 years ago. I didn't think I would be

:20:51. > :20:54.introducing a piece like that. Not because I didn't think it existed in

:20:55. > :20:57.football, that football reflected society but it has changed, it's

:20:58. > :21:01.moved massively in the last few years. It's important that football

:21:02. > :21:05.reflects the wider society. Of course. I think football needs to

:21:06. > :21:10.catch up. I think the line from that for me was Eddie Howe, I think what

:21:11. > :21:14.he said there is perhaps the nicest thing I have heard a football

:21:15. > :21:18.manager say all season, just, you know - what can we do to help? The

:21:19. > :21:22.rest of the players applauded, let's get on with training. Football needs

:21:23. > :21:26.to understand it needs to reflect society and not have to lead. You

:21:27. > :21:29.know most people are all right. We are all aware of the little

:21:30. > :21:33.differences in everybody and the diversity in our own lives, you

:21:34. > :21:38.know. I think most people just cope with things. Sometimes football has

:21:39. > :21:41.been a bit frightened of upsetting the traditional fan base and this

:21:42. > :21:44.sort of thing I think we just all get on with it. I think it is

:21:45. > :21:51.important football does reflect society, it is still a dominant

:21:52. > :21:54.sport, dominates the back pages, gets column inches so, diversity and

:21:55. > :22:03.the representation of diversity in football is vital. I was actually on

:22:04. > :22:11.Monday unleashing a women's mar getting plan, moving forward, the

:22:12. > :22:14.main strategy was - football is for all. From whatever level you are,

:22:15. > :22:23.whether you are at elite level or playing on a Sunday, on a pitch in

:22:24. > :22:25.the park, everyone is involved and this story highlights that. In 20

:22:26. > :22:29.years' time, we will sit down around laughing at the fact that in 2017 we

:22:30. > :22:31.don't have any openly gay footballers in the Premier League.

:22:32. > :22:34.It wasn't something we talked about. Thankfully we are moving on.

:22:35. > :22:36.Football is for everyone. It is the people's game. They should have that

:22:37. > :22:42.at a slogan Right there. Manchester City v Liverpool

:22:43. > :22:44.on Sunday is THE game of the weekend with third taking on fourth,
