0:00:37 > 0:00:40Hello and welcome to The Premier League Show.
0:00:40 > 0:00:43This week we've come to the capital for a special look ahead
0:00:43 > 0:00:44to the weekend's main event.
0:00:44 > 0:00:51Over 60,000 fans will pack out the Emirates on Saturday lunchtime,
0:00:51 > 0:00:53eager in anticipation of the 194th north London derby, the latest
0:00:53 > 0:01:01chapter of one of English football's greatest rivalries.
0:01:01 > 0:01:03Can he do it? Yes, he can.
0:01:09 > 0:01:17Oh, I say, brilliant!What a goal! And that might be the Championship
0:01:17 > 0:01:23clinching goal.Always intense.
0:01:25 > 0:01:27DANCE MUSIC
0:01:30 > 0:01:37Incredible strike by Harry Kane.Van Persie!
0:01:42 > 0:01:52Gareth Bale for Tottenham. Great goal.Fabregas, and it's through!
0:01:52 > 0:02:04It's for - four. Unbelievable.You couldn't make this up.He's won it!
0:02:04 > 0:02:07This is Roy of the Rovers stuff.
0:02:11 > 0:02:14So many memorable moments down the years but what of the two club's
0:02:14 > 0:02:16future is?
0:02:16 > 0:02:18As important as Saturday's game is towards local bragging rights,
0:02:18 > 0:02:21and even the title picture, there are perhaps even more pressing
0:02:21 > 0:02:23matters facing Arsenal and Spurs.
0:02:23 > 0:02:25To address some of these issues, we've assembled a panel
0:02:25 > 0:02:28of experts, each well versed in this particular rivalry.
0:02:28 > 0:02:31Jermaine Jenas played over 150 times for Tottenham
0:02:31 > 0:02:34during a seven-and-a-half-year spell at White Hart Lane, and was part
0:02:34 > 0:02:37of the last Spurs side to win a major trophy.
0:02:37 > 0:02:39A lifelong Gooner, Alex Scott has also represented the Arsenal Ladies
0:02:39 > 0:02:41side with great distinction in a career that's
0:02:41 > 0:02:43claimed 19 major honours.
0:02:43 > 0:02:46John Cross is the chief football writer of the Daily Mirror,
0:02:46 > 0:02:51and author of The Inside Story of Arsenal Under Wenger.
0:02:51 > 0:02:56Entrepreneur, electronics pioneer, football club chairman, politician,
0:02:56 > 0:02:59and star of his own reality TV show, Lord Sugar has occupied many
0:02:59 > 0:03:01roles over the years, but the one constant is that
0:03:01 > 0:03:04of fervent Spurs fan.
0:03:04 > 0:03:07So, with our guests in place, let's get down to business.
0:03:07 > 0:03:10We'll start with the home side for whom the phrase "mixed start"
0:03:10 > 0:03:12might almost have been invented.
0:03:16 > 0:03:20COMMENTATOR: Arsenal hope this season's absence from the Champions
0:03:20 > 0:03:26League paves the way for a genuine crack at the title. Giroud! It's in.
0:03:26 > 0:03:37For- three, Arsenal. Liverpool have swept Arsenal side here today.
0:03:40 > 0:03:48# I've passed this way before # And I've felt this pain before
0:03:51 > 0:03:57winning it for Watford!I want to see who's up for it and who's up for
0:03:57 > 0:04:04the challenge and I felt today that none of them were.Arsenal, 12
0:04:04 > 0:04:08points off the league leaders now.
0:04:15 > 0:04:18On the pitch with Arsenal so far this season it feels a little bit
0:04:18 > 0:04:24like same old dame old, doesn't it? It feels like Groundhog Day. I think
0:04:24 > 0:04:28again it's going to be a scramble for a top four placed rather than
0:04:28 > 0:04:32challenging for the title. That is disappointing because Arsene
0:04:32 > 0:04:36Wenger's decision to stay on after the FA Cup Final was based on the
0:04:36 > 0:04:41facts, can he put Arsenal to the next level? Arsenal seem to be in a
0:04:41 > 0:04:46frustrating place. They are nearly there and you nearly want them to
0:04:46 > 0:04:49click on but I feel they are in the second year of Challenger is pushing
0:04:49 > 0:04:55for top four rather than challenging for the title.Did his decision to
0:04:55 > 0:04:58delay his announcement about his contract, whether he was staying,
0:04:58 > 0:05:02last season, has it had a knock-on effect into this season?It
0:05:02 > 0:05:07contributed to performances last season and for the fans there was a
0:05:07 > 0:05:13lack of clarity and which direction the club were going in. I think it's
0:05:13 > 0:05:16had a knock-on effect. He brought in Lacazette but there is still
0:05:16 > 0:05:20something missing in the club where we haven't clicked on and that's
0:05:20 > 0:05:23where we're seeing the likes of Tottenham, it seems like they have
0:05:23 > 0:05:28more of a strategic plan.I've been a great fan of Arsene Wenger four
0:05:28 > 0:05:33years. He's had them in the Champions League for 20 odd years,
0:05:33 > 0:05:39hasn't he? I don't think anyone else has achieved that. I think there's
0:05:39 > 0:05:44precipitation down to the players, what I'd called adverse publicity,
0:05:44 > 0:05:47external influences from the media, uncertainty of contracts of some of
0:05:47 > 0:05:55the players, uncertainty whether Arsene is going to hack it any more
0:05:55 > 0:05:59and that goes down to the pitch, I have to say. It's reminiscent of my
0:05:59 > 0:06:05days at Spurs where the players were resigned to the fact that we were
0:06:05 > 0:06:08useless because the media were saying we were useless. Until
0:06:08 > 0:06:15Jermaine come along! What seemed to have happened at Arsenal, the AGM
0:06:15 > 0:06:18highlighted this, there is a disconnect between the fans and the
0:06:18 > 0:06:23board. They feel that the board does not really care about them and their
0:06:23 > 0:06:28club and it's very much a business and there are a set of fans who
0:06:28 > 0:06:33really care. They need to believe as well.I know we are talking about
0:06:33 > 0:06:38Arsenal but this is a warning sign for cotton as well. Arsenal built a
0:06:38 > 0:06:43beautiful stadium -- a warning sign for Spurs as well. A lot of the
0:06:43 > 0:06:49unrest has come along. A lot of the fans, although they love the lovely
0:06:49 > 0:06:55stadium, Deila Highbury just as much if not more and they don't feel the
0:06:55 > 0:06:59reason to dip into their pockets, they are wondering why we aren't in
0:06:59 > 0:07:02the mix for these players? They are paying all this money to watch the
0:07:02 > 0:07:07team play and they've gone backwards inside three. It's not making sense
0:07:07 > 0:07:12which is where the disconnect comes between the fans and the club.Do
0:07:12 > 0:07:16you think the fans take Arsene Wenger for granted? In the time he's
0:07:16 > 0:07:19been there, Liverpool haven't won the league, Arsene Wenger did it
0:07:19 > 0:07:25three times. That's always been the 's argument, be careful what you
0:07:25 > 0:07:32wish for, which, I wouldn't say it has kept Arsene Wenger in a job, but
0:07:32 > 0:07:35he has been so consistent and you shouldn't underestimate that. When
0:07:35 > 0:07:41people look back they will appreciate it.Absolutely, he got a
0:07:41 > 0:07:45standing ovation because he showed a love for the club and the desire to
0:07:45 > 0:07:54win and he bleeds Arsenal can be a top side.Arsene is a very clever
0:07:54 > 0:07:58man -- and he believes Arsenal can be a top side. He is against other
0:07:58 > 0:08:06clubs with a big cheque-book he can't compete. Medium players, I say
0:08:06 > 0:08:10medium, £50 million players, not £111, I cannot win now.Arsenal will
0:08:10 > 0:08:19say that Spurs are pushing.I don't want to be a downer on Spurs...Not
0:08:19 > 0:08:24so early on!I'm always a realistic person and when you've got two clubs
0:08:24 > 0:08:27who have a cheque-book and go out and buy the best players, aren't
0:08:27 > 0:08:32going to compete. When you say that, you're talking about Manchester City
0:08:32 > 0:08:40and United?United to a certain extent but city, for sure.What
0:08:40 > 0:08:43about Chelsea? The last two Premier League champions come Chelsea and
0:08:43 > 0:08:50Leicester.You've just got to look at the owners, they don't really
0:08:50 > 0:08:53understand the tactics and this and that and the other. Who's the best
0:08:53 > 0:08:57player in the world, go and buy him, doesn't matter how much it costs
0:08:57 > 0:09:01because they'll get it out of the oil well. That's the terrible state
0:09:01 > 0:09:11football is in.Didn't Leicester give us a glimmer of hope that...?
0:09:11 > 0:09:15That season, some of the so-called big clubs were sorting themselves
0:09:15 > 0:09:19out and worked in competition. It was an amazing thing that happened
0:09:19 > 0:09:23and good luck to Leicester and stupid Tottenham should have taken
0:09:23 > 0:09:27their chances then. If ever there was a chance for us to win the
0:09:27 > 0:09:32league we should have done it then. Are the Arsenal fans prepared to go
0:09:32 > 0:09:35through a period of transition where you may go through two or three
0:09:35 > 0:09:39managers before you get the goose that lays the golden egg? That could
0:09:39 > 0:09:44take six or seven years. It could and that's where the hierarchy are
0:09:44 > 0:09:50looking. Had they had the right candidates to replace Arsene Wenger?
0:09:50 > 0:09:55That's where, OK, Arsenal are looking for the longer term plan.
0:09:55 > 0:10:00Spurs have been climbing the table. Every season Arsenal are picking up
0:10:00 > 0:10:04silverware and Spurs have yet to do that.Arsenal are fed up with
0:10:04 > 0:10:10pushing for the top four. They want the title.I imagine quite fed up
0:10:10 > 0:10:14indeed if these contracts for the likes of Sanchez and Wilshere money
0:10:14 > 0:10:20out and they leave. We had it with Sol Campbell, yeah. David Pleat,
0:10:20 > 0:10:24bless him, and George Graham said at the time, Chairman, leave it to us.
0:10:24 > 0:10:30Don't worry, don't worry, he's going nowhere. I said to them, gentlemen,
0:10:30 > 0:10:34sadly you are as though old-fashioned and entrenched in the
0:10:34 > 0:10:40business, you don't understand the effect of the Bosman rule. This
0:10:40 > 0:10:45agent of Mr Campbell does understand it. They said no, Chairman, leave it
0:10:45 > 0:10:51to us, he'll be here next season. That was history! May be what's
0:10:51 > 0:10:56going on with Wilshere and the same. Burn down the contract, somebody
0:10:56 > 0:11:02gets them for free and they campaigned them higher wages without
0:11:02 > 0:11:06the transfer fee.Do you think Wanger has resigned himself to that?
0:11:06 > 0:11:10I think he has with Sanchez, I think Sanchez will play for Manchester
0:11:10 > 0:11:15City. Ozil is going to leave for free and I think Wilshere is
0:11:15 > 0:11:19different, I think he'd like to play.Why has that been allowed to
0:11:19 > 0:11:24happen?If you are at the top of Arsenal, you'd look at Sanchez and
0:11:24 > 0:11:28Ozil, I know he hasn't performed well but they are world stars and
0:11:28 > 0:11:33you'd build a team around that and make sure they are continually at
0:11:33 > 0:11:36the club. How has it come to the point where you are toning down 60
0:11:36 > 0:11:42million quid and letting him walk away for free? It adds to the fans'
0:11:42 > 0:11:48unrest?That's my point, Jermaine. I'm being devil 's advocate, I don't
0:11:48 > 0:11:52believe the player would have gone. You wouldn't have turned down 60
0:11:52 > 0:11:57million, would you? You'd be nuts, as the club come if you thought he
0:11:57 > 0:12:02was going.From the player's perspective, when we know a player
0:12:02 > 0:12:05doesn't want to be at the club, they want to go, but against Manchester
0:12:05 > 0:12:13City he is in the line-up over Lacazette. You'd think I've
0:12:13 > 0:12:16committed my future but I've got a player ahead of me who doesn't want
0:12:16 > 0:12:23to be here. I suppose that's more a question of what's going on?What is
0:12:23 > 0:12:25successful Arsenal this season? Getting back in the Champions
0:12:25 > 0:12:31League?100% committed they get in the top four, they must qualify that
0:12:31 > 0:12:36as success because it looks impossible. They've got a good
0:12:36 > 0:12:40squad, they really have, but the way things are going, that would be a
0:12:40 > 0:12:45successful season for Arsenal.I'm hoping it happens, Jermaine! And a
0:12:45 > 0:12:51good cup run.You won two cups over the last oblivious and you're still
0:12:51 > 0:12:56saying you take that.Top four would be a remarkable finish for Arsenal,
0:12:56 > 0:13:00bear in mind everything that's happened. And again a tribute to
0:13:00 > 0:13:05Begg's consistency and longevity. I have in the foggiest why he
0:13:05 > 0:13:10continues to beat himself up -- to Wenger's consistency.You wouldn't
0:13:10 > 0:13:22say you are fired to Arsene Wenger? No, tremendous admiration.
0:13:22 > 0:13:25After a slow start, Spurs have found their feet and now they are the
0:13:25 > 0:13:27leading Londoners.
0:13:27 > 0:13:28their feet and now they are the leading Londoners.Much has been
0:13:28 > 0:13:37said about Spurs's so-called Wembley kudu. The sucker punch with two and
0:13:37 > 0:13:44a half minutes to play. -- Wembley kudu.Kane hasn't scored in August.
0:13:44 > 0:13:52An equaliser for Burnley. Tottenham can't win at Wembley.Kane! August
0:13:52 > 0:13:56has gone and September has arrived and Kane is back among the goals.
0:13:56 > 0:14:04Eriksen comes up trumps. Spurs have their first Premier League victory
0:14:04 > 0:14:12at Wembley.Kane!Tottenham Hotspur, four, Liverpool, Walton.What a
0:14:12 > 0:14:18night for Tottenham. Spurs, three, where Madrid, one.The result will
0:14:18 > 0:14:24reverberate through the continent -- Real Madrid.We started have
0:14:24 > 0:14:27confidence at Wembley.
0:14:31 > 0:14:36Obviously Spurs took a while to get going at Wembley and a slow start in
0:14:36 > 0:14:39the league but the performance against Real Madrid in the Champions
0:14:39 > 0:14:44League at Wembley must be their benchmark now, hasn't it?It was a
0:14:44 > 0:14:47realisation for Pochettino and the players and the club of where they
0:14:47 > 0:14:54want to be and how they want to is be perceived. A couple of seasons
0:14:54 > 0:14:57ago in the Europa League they went to Baresi Dortmund and everyone
0:14:57 > 0:15:03expected a lot and it didn't quite happen. -- bushie Dortmund. This
0:15:03 > 0:15:07year was the year for the manager to go, I've got this team and I'm going
0:15:07 > 0:15:11to make them even better. As a player, when you come through
0:15:11 > 0:15:15moments like that it makes you grow and I expect the team to kick on and
0:15:15 > 0:15:20achieve big things.
0:15:20 > 0:15:22We are talking about Pochettino potentially one of the best managers
0:15:22 > 0:15:27in Europe. He has every attribute, I think, out there, you can't fail to
0:15:27 > 0:15:30like him. He's an excellent tactician, the players adore him,
0:15:30 > 0:15:35you see the connection. How will he win a major trophy at Tottenham?
0:15:35 > 0:15:38Particularly when he's balancing the demands of the team, demands of the
0:15:38 > 0:15:41club, moving to a new stadium and the financial pressures that will
0:15:41 > 0:15:55bring. It's a huge job in front of him.It
0:16:00 > 0:16:03is a feeling at the moment that the players feel there are onto
0:16:03 > 0:16:05something. They feel, we've got something here. The Real Madrid
0:16:05 > 0:16:07result, as far as the fans were concerned, that was our winning the
0:16:07 > 0:16:10Premier League moment. That was it, you couldn't do better than that.
0:16:10 > 0:16:13Real Madrid in the Champions League and we beat them big-time.B is the
0:16:13 > 0:16:15one manager, Pochettino, who has the potential to make spares the closest
0:16:15 > 0:16:17challengers. What he's doing is overachieving and I think to do that
0:16:17 > 0:16:21he's got together this young group of players, he's got them all
0:16:21 > 0:16:24believing they're playing wonderful, attacking, attractive football. He
0:16:24 > 0:16:29really is doing something special, I think. He has to keep those players
0:16:29 > 0:16:32and you think when they look around at their contemporaries at other
0:16:32 > 0:16:35clubs and know they are not being paid as much, eventually it's going
0:16:35 > 0:16:42to start to work a little bit.Yes, and players are known for what you
0:16:42 > 0:16:46win, silverware. When do we say, this is the season they have to win
0:16:46 > 0:16:49something? With the Real Madrid game, the pressure wasn't on them in
0:16:49 > 0:16:54that game. I just think, when are they going to kick on, get some
0:16:54 > 0:16:59silverware, because it is different when you have to do produce those
0:16:59 > 0:17:02performances consistently. It's against Real Madrid. If Real Madrid
0:17:02 > 0:17:06go away and when that game it is, OK, they were playing against Real
0:17:06 > 0:17:10Madrid. I am saying consistently producing performances instead of
0:17:10 > 0:17:14those one-off moments. Bee it'll be the thing we talk about or who knows
0:17:14 > 0:17:21how long. He will be there until he does win something. He has the
0:17:21 > 0:17:24opportunity to win the League Cup the other day. That can be a great
0:17:24 > 0:17:29stepping stone. Us the fact you don't want to waste your time and
0:17:29 > 0:17:33put your energy into the League Cup, I think that's wrong.That is a bit
0:17:33 > 0:17:39of silverware missed already. We have to remember what this manager
0:17:39 > 0:17:43has created. Dele Alli getting a link with Barcelona, Real Madrid.
0:17:43 > 0:17:46These top players for Spurs are getting linked with the best clubs
0:17:46 > 0:17:50in world football. These are players that'll be able to walk into the
0:17:50 > 0:17:55team at Real Madrid or Barcelona and a lot of that is on the basis of
0:17:55 > 0:18:04what raise your budget you has done. Do they need to win something?--
0:18:04 > 0:18:09that is on the basis of what Pochettino has done. I think it is
0:18:09 > 0:18:14on the vision of trying to achieve, trying to win. The minutes that goes
0:18:14 > 0:18:19away, I think you do lose the focus of someone like Harry Kane. Harry is
0:18:19 > 0:18:23one of those players, he seems to be the one that will stay. He's still
0:18:23 > 0:18:27going to have to incentivise him in terms of, what are we doing this
0:18:27 > 0:18:32season? What are we trying to achieve?Comments like Danny Rose's
0:18:32 > 0:18:38in the summer don't help. Having to Google transfers. Walker has a
0:18:38 > 0:18:42championship medal. Some players might ask more questions. If you go
0:18:42 > 0:18:48back to the great Sir Alex Ferguson, if he had a player like Danny Rose
0:18:48 > 0:18:51make a statement like he did in the media, he would have been dead meat,
0:18:51 > 0:18:57gone.What he spoke was the truth. You shouldn't have said it and done
0:18:57 > 0:19:01it in the way you did and you can understand why at the top end of a
0:19:01 > 0:19:06football club you would say, get out, mate. The only problem is that
0:19:06 > 0:19:09Manchester United, when you're dead and finish and he kicks them out the
0:19:09 > 0:19:13door, inevitably you go down. At Tottenham and your Danny Rose, he
0:19:13 > 0:19:17kicks him out the door and he goes up. He will go to Manchester City,
0:19:17 > 0:19:25PSG.Not now, Jermaine, because we are a contender now. We came second
0:19:25 > 0:19:31last year, we are a big club now.So you've got Danny Rose basically
0:19:31 > 0:19:34kicking off, making it clear he wants to go. He's made that crystal
0:19:34 > 0:19:39clear. But as an asset as well as the player, if you completely derail
0:19:39 > 0:19:44him, completely put him in the reserves, you just topped off 20
0:19:44 > 0:19:49million from his transfer fee.You only have to do it once and to make
0:19:49 > 0:19:53a statement and say, don't mess with me. He should have been dismissed
0:19:53 > 0:19:57immediately and then he made a pathetic apology which got about
0:19:57 > 0:20:05that much space in the back pages. You have a magnifying glass... Danny
0:20:05 > 0:20:09Rose apologises.Let's move on to the new ground and let's not get
0:20:09 > 0:20:12into a debate about whether they will start the beginning of the 20
0:20:12 > 0:20:2018th season. What fans will want is we got a lovely stadium, we want to
0:20:20 > 0:20:24keep on being able to pay the top salaries to players, bringing top
0:20:24 > 0:20:27players. They don't want to have to sacrifice that for four or five
0:20:27 > 0:20:32seasons.I think that is where Tottenham's plans come into place.
0:20:32 > 0:20:35They have a young team, Arsenal moved into the new stadium and you
0:20:35 > 0:20:38had players coming towards the end of their careers are they had to go
0:20:38 > 0:20:41through a transition. Tottenham, I think you have it all, you have the
0:20:41 > 0:20:45young team to build on, the new stadium. It's all upwards. We went
0:20:45 > 0:20:50through the transition phase at the Emirates. You brought the end of an
0:20:50 > 0:20:55era into a new era.And tried to rebuild it, as well. Tottenham is
0:20:55 > 0:20:59all about having a young manager in Pochettino, managing to keep the
0:20:59 > 0:21:05young squad together during a period of great upheaval and transition. It
0:21:05 > 0:21:09is the belief we have and also don't forget we have a few kids in the
0:21:09 > 0:21:12background coming through. He's very interested in those kids and he's
0:21:12 > 0:21:17giving them a chance.He has given them a chance. They were talking
0:21:17 > 0:21:20about a player and the main part of the puzzle is keeping the manager at
0:21:20 > 0:21:26Spurs.That is where you start it.I think part of the Bulls, as well, is
0:21:26 > 0:21:32to win something without spending a fortune. -- part of the buzz. I
0:21:32 > 0:21:37don't think he wants to take the easy route, he wants to do to the
0:21:37 > 0:21:40right way. He's probably at the most perfect club in Europe to do that.
0:21:40 > 0:21:43They're not going to go crazy with finances, they have a very good
0:21:43 > 0:21:47youth academy and he will want to be part of that special moment when it
0:21:47 > 0:21:55comes.Does anybody think they won't finish above Arsenal? No.Spurs have
0:21:55 > 0:21:59changed. Arsenal have had 20 years of dominance in north London thanks
0:21:59 > 0:22:03to Arsene Wenger. I think people who say, oh, you should have higher
0:22:03 > 0:22:06sites than finishing above your rivals never understand the dynamics
0:22:06 > 0:22:13of a derby and what it means to fans. It means everything. It's been
0:22:13 > 0:22:21a great comfort for Wenger. And things are changing. Thank you so
0:22:21 > 0:22:25much to John, Alex, Jermaine, Lord Sugar. Some really interesting
0:22:25 > 0:22:29topics we discussed. Let's see in a year's time, which prophecies come
0:22:29 > 0:22:34true.Same time same place?Same place.
0:22:34 > 0:22:36So a huge game to relish on Saturday, and that's just
0:22:36 > 0:22:38the beginning of another action-packed weekend,
0:22:38 > 0:22:39as the Premier League returns following the international break.
0:22:39 > 0:22:42as the Premier League returns following the international break.
0:22:42 > 0:22:48They've nipped it in the second minute of injury time. Splendid, to
0:22:48 > 0:22:56break the deadlock.Sam Vokes has done it for Burnley!Trying to find
0:22:56 > 0:23:00that balance between starting defensively and our defensive record
0:23:00 > 0:23:03is not too bad but you have to find some momentum going forward. Seven
0:23:03 > 0:23:12goals in 11 games is not a particularly good tally.Our
0:23:12 > 0:23:17confidence in terms of what we can achieve is at a particularly low
0:23:17 > 0:23:32ebb, I don't think so. What worries me about statistics. In the last two
0:23:32 > 0:23:38years we beat them twice so we know we can beat them. We play 100%.
0:23:38 > 0:23:45We've had an up and down start to the season. Adam Lallana is coming
0:23:45 > 0:23:58back. He's a massive player. Hopefully we can do that.It's
0:23:58 > 0:24:03difficult to fight for the title again. Every team wants to win
0:24:03 > 0:24:18against Chelsea.Anthony Marty Al takes them ahead -- Anthony Martial.
0:24:18 > 0:24:22And Watford have the lead! The young Brazilian.
0:24:32 > 0:24:36Oh, it's in! Peter Crouch, a great header.
0:24:36 > 0:24:38Plenty more by way of preview of the Premier League weekend
0:24:38 > 0:24:40on Football Focus this Saturday lunchtime.
0:24:40 > 0:24:42The north London derby gets things under way,
0:24:42 > 0:24:44and then at 3 o'clock leaders Manchester City travel
0:24:44 > 0:24:46to Leicester hoping to extend their 8-point advantage.
0:24:46 > 0:24:49At the other end of the table Crystal Palace face Everton
0:24:49 > 0:24:50while Swansea travel to high-flying Burnley.
0:24:50 > 0:24:53Under pressure Tony Pulis and West Brom have a tough-looking
0:24:53 > 0:24:55task against Chelsea, before Manchester United play
0:24:55 > 0:24:56Newcastle in the tea-time game.
0:24:59 > 0:25:01On Sunday David Moyes takes charge of West Ham
0:25:01 > 0:25:04for the first time at Watford, and then Brighton and Stoke
0:25:04 > 0:25:06round things off on Monday night.
0:25:06 > 0:25:11Lots to look forward to, and hopefully plenty of goals.
0:25:11 > 0:25:14These days it seems that it's not simply the act of scoring alone
0:25:14 > 0:25:17that's enough to make a statement, but how you then mark
0:25:17 > 0:25:17that big moment.
0:25:21 > 0:25:26# It ain't what you do...
0:25:26 > 0:25:28# It ain't what you do... Scoring a goal is a rare and wonderful thing
0:25:28 > 0:25:31and according to most footballers, there's no feeling in the world that
0:25:31 > 0:25:35can quite match it for sheer elation. Well, apart from scoring
0:25:35 > 0:25:40two goals, I suppose. Or three. Anyway, how does one translate that
0:25:40 > 0:25:42most intangible of the feelings into an appropriate celebration
0:25:42 > 0:25:50afterwards? # It is your thing, do what you want
0:25:50 > 0:25:50to do
0:25:50 > 0:25:53to do and # Whilst today's offerings tend
0:25:53 > 0:26:00tantamount to dance, it used to be fairly formal. During much of the
0:26:00 > 0:26:03early 20th century, a firm handshake and a ruffle of the moustache
0:26:03 > 0:26:08sufficed. A particularly fine strike might warrant a doffing of the cap,
0:26:08 > 0:26:12but anything more extravagant was considered bad form and could result
0:26:12 > 0:26:19in deportation to Australia. He was disgusted, as well he might be.
0:26:19 > 0:26:22Despite the fact that the 60s and 70s were known for their disco
0:26:22 > 0:26:31extravaganzas, old pitch -- on pitch celebrations didn't match up. By the
0:26:31 > 0:26:341980s, this deranged, seemingly never ending - was merely par for
0:26:34 > 0:26:42the course. Invite, major international tournaments proved to
0:26:42 > 0:26:46be fertile ground for the revolution of goal celebrations. Roger Miller
0:26:46 > 0:26:51showing corner flags the time of their lives. Going Patrick Swayze,
0:26:51 > 0:26:55putting baby in the corner, and Gazza getting images the on field
0:26:55 > 0:27:01dentistry at Euro 96. However, it wasn't until the advent of the
0:27:01 > 0:27:03Premier League that goal celebrations really came into their
0:27:03 > 0:27:11own. For some, the sheer unadulterated joy of scoring allowed
0:27:11 > 0:27:16them to bend the very laws of physics. Whilst for others, those
0:27:16 > 0:27:22laws remained firmly in place. Some used their post-goal celebrations to
0:27:22 > 0:27:28deliver a knockout satirical blow. Jimmy Bullard does the Phil Brown,
0:27:28 > 0:27:32sit them down and gives them a ticking off.Whilst others used it
0:27:32 > 0:27:38to receive one. Then again, Wayne does have a history of picking
0:27:38 > 0:27:44fights with himself. Jurgen Klinsmann's famous dies were used to
0:27:44 > 0:27:47silence his critics. Whilst Robbie Fowler's touchline snorting and him
0:27:47 > 0:27:51plenty of new ones. And of course there's always been room for a spot
0:27:51 > 0:27:57of dad dancing. However, as the inspiration well begins to run dry,
0:27:57 > 0:28:01we've been subjected to monstrosities like this... This...
0:28:01 > 0:28:09And worst of all, this... It's not looking good, is it? So where do we
0:28:09 > 0:28:12go from here? A dance studio, apparently, to figure out the future
0:28:12 > 0:28:15of goal celebrations. Cue the montage!
0:28:28 > 0:28:31It's a lot harder than it looks, this celebration law. I think I'll
0:28:31 > 0:28:35leave it to the professionals. You do it best, guys. Anyone know where
0:28:35 > 0:28:37you can get eight two dry-cleaned?
0:28:37 > 0:28:40I'm not sure we'll be seeing Ben on Match Of The Day
0:28:40 > 0:28:42or Strictly just yet.
0:28:42 > 0:28:44Don't forget, if you've missed anything, then
0:28:44 > 0:28:45the show is on the iPlayer.
0:28:45 > 0:28:47Next Thursday we'll be in the Premier League leaders'
0:28:47 > 0:28:49back yard in Manchester, but until then enjoy
0:28:49 > 0:28:52your footballing weekend and enjoy it on the BBC.
0:28:52 > 0:28:54Goodbye.
