:00:36. > :00:39.This week I'm joined by Chris Sutton and comedian

:00:40. > :00:42.and long-suffering Swansea City fan, Elis James.

:00:43. > :00:45.Coming up on the show - with a big weekend ahead at the foot

:00:46. > :00:48.of the table we look at what it takes to escape the dreaded drop;

:00:49. > :00:51.Steve Bower sits down with Burnley boss Sean Dyche

:00:52. > :00:54.and football-mad John Robins tells us why he has no desire to...err..go

:00:55. > :00:58.But first, the games are running out and the tension is rising

:00:59. > :01:01.at both ends of the table - here's what's been happening

:01:02. > :01:09.over the last seven days in the Premier League...

:01:10. > :01:21.It was an outstanding performance. Up comes a Randolph. But is it the

:01:22. > :01:28.way, not very far. Sunderland have hope. We will keep believing why we

:01:29. > :01:36.have a chance. We keep going, we don't give in. It is a free header.

:01:37. > :01:41.The only thing I want to remember is a positive experience. If I had to

:01:42. > :01:48.work 15 years to experience one such moment, I will do it gladly. Drives

:01:49. > :02:00.it in. What an outstanding goal. Rowdy outside... 2-0. Get it in.

:02:01. > :02:13.That is the icing on the cake. Exciting moment. Marcus Rashford

:02:14. > :02:24.with the chance. Taken brilliantly. Young, again. And as her rare red.

:02:25. > :02:27.It is deflected and it is in. Listen to those cheers for Manchester

:02:28. > :02:40.United win which will be cheered as loudly by Tottenham.

:02:41. > :02:51.Keeper doesn't see it at all. Sanchez, right footed, quality kick

:02:52. > :03:00.and Arsenal lead 1-0. Negredo steers the ball past Petr Cech. Sanchez,

:03:01. > :03:12.into the penalty area. The ball is fired in. And it is Ozil. Arsenal

:03:13. > :03:16.are back in front 2-1. There will be a new team in the Premier League

:03:17. > :03:22.next season, Brighton Hove Albion have been promoted. John Terry has

:03:23. > :03:29.announced he will leave the club at the end of the season. He has been

:03:30. > :03:38.at the club for 22 years. He said he will decide on his future later. You

:03:39. > :03:43.get the feeling Spurs smell a little bit of fear, they smell an

:03:44. > :03:47.opportunity and they look imperious. Is it a little wobble from Chelsea

:03:48. > :03:53.would you be worried if you were a Chelsea fan? I wouldn't be too

:03:54. > :04:00.worried. Chelsea have four games at home, two away, Sunderland and

:04:01. > :04:12.Middlesbrough and they are automatic for Chelsea. Spurs are on an

:04:13. > :04:19.incredible run. Were you surprised by Antonio Conte's body language? A

:04:20. > :04:24.couple of months ago, all of the pundits are saying they were going

:04:25. > :04:29.to win it. So to lose two games in a month, must get in the back of your

:04:30. > :04:34.mind, doubt. As a neutral, you want the team at the top in April to

:04:35. > :04:44.throw it away, because it is so entertaining. Liverpool fliptop and

:04:45. > :04:47.they have throw it away. They had a Newcastle like lead as well,

:04:48. > :04:55.Chelsea. It is so much fun if you don't support the top two teams. I

:04:56. > :05:03.am trying to find a link, do you want Spurs to win? I don't care. I

:05:04. > :05:08.used to live with a Spurs fan, they haven't won it since 1961. People

:05:09. > :05:16.used to rent radios in 1961. I love Ben Davies. A Welsh connection?

:05:17. > :05:22.Clutching at straws. Who do you want to win it? I want Swansea to win it

:05:23. > :05:30.in some horrendous mathematical... I don't know how it will happen. It

:05:31. > :05:36.won't. No it won't. I prefer watching Tottenham to Chelsea. Spurs

:05:37. > :05:42.are playing attractive football, they look tougher than they did this

:05:43. > :05:46.time last year? The manager was saying a month ago, last year they

:05:47. > :05:50.lost focus. They don't seem to have lost focus this year. The

:05:51. > :05:55.interesting one is the semifinal at the weekend. If Spurs bump Chelsea,

:05:56. > :06:01.there may be doubts from the Chelsea players. Is there anything to read

:06:02. > :06:07.into cost of's form as well? He is reliant on service. He didn't have

:06:08. > :06:12.his best game against United, he was shackled well. But overall he has

:06:13. > :06:18.been exceptional the Chelsea. There is no way he is 27. He looks about

:06:19. > :06:22.50. I thought it was a typo when I saw his age. It takes it out of you

:06:23. > :06:25.being a sportsman, look at Chris. The top two aren't in action this

:06:26. > :06:28.weekend so attention is firmly on the bottom of the table -

:06:29. > :06:31.and there are some big Huge home games for both

:06:32. > :06:34.Swansea and Hull dominate Saturday's fixtures,

:06:35. > :06:36.whilst West Ham and Bournemouth are still desperate to reach that

:06:37. > :06:38.magical 40 point mark. Likewise, on Sunday Burnley

:06:39. > :06:40.entertain Manchester United and resurgent Crystal Palace face

:06:41. > :06:42.a tough trip to Anfield. But what does it take to avoid

:06:43. > :06:45.the trapdoor and keep your head Recent Premier League history

:06:46. > :06:49.is punctuated by miraculous escapes but how do you psychologically equip

:06:50. > :07:08.yourself to fight relegation. When the threat of relegation enters

:07:09. > :07:12.into the thoughts, this whole idea of needing to escape occupies my

:07:13. > :07:19.energy and what I think about, I'd bring about. You start distrusting

:07:20. > :07:24.each other as players. You look at your coach and doubts whether they

:07:25. > :07:27.are the person you hoped they would be, the blame game starts happening

:07:28. > :07:34.and you get into this negative spiral. Whether you can ride the

:07:35. > :07:38.emotional roller-coaster that is relegation is going to be the key as

:07:39. > :07:49.to whether you come out successful or not successful. For me, it looks

:07:50. > :07:54.like fear and the fear has gripped the players and it hasn't allowed

:07:55. > :07:58.them to express the ability they have got. When players enter into

:07:59. > :08:05.the competitive arena cup performance is in their mindset.

:08:06. > :08:12.That is when they are stifled. Fans on their back, press on their back.

:08:13. > :08:17.What a dreadful moments. If you can imagine my hands are like my

:08:18. > :08:22.thoughts and my feelings. When I am experiencing fear, it is as if this

:08:23. > :08:27.happens. The fear of failure perpetuates itself onto the pitch.

:08:28. > :08:32.They freeze and take less risks on the ball. If body language reveals

:08:33. > :08:39.anything, it reveals horror. It is often said, the health of the team

:08:40. > :08:45.is reflected in the face of the coach. Being mindful of your body

:08:46. > :08:49.language as a manager is important. They may be saying the right words,

:08:50. > :08:54.but if their body language doesn't reflect what they are saying, their

:08:55. > :08:59.players will recognise it. When you see players making a mistake, they

:09:00. > :09:05.look straight to the bench for some kind of confirmation of how to feel.

:09:06. > :09:12.We cannot not communicate. The serious stuff starts here for the

:09:13. > :09:16.new Hull boss. When managers come into football clubs, there is this

:09:17. > :09:22.sense of freshness, everything is new. You are coming in with the

:09:23. > :09:27.level of optimum and you have to convince somebody that you can. You

:09:28. > :09:34.share those thoughts with somebody. A change of manager disrupts that

:09:35. > :09:40.cloud of negativity. Cloud you run your airy has been sacked as the

:09:41. > :09:47.Leicester City manager. You create belief systems and then the fear

:09:48. > :09:55.starts to dissipate. The Stadium of light is lifting. Sam Allardyce has

:09:56. > :10:00.a tool box he brings with him, both mental and scientific, if you like.

:10:01. > :10:05.He has done it before. Job done, mission accomplished. Sam Allardyce

:10:06. > :10:12.has pulled it off. People look to him and say, we are in safe hands.

:10:13. > :10:15.He said, I am the man to get Crystal Palace out of relegation. That

:10:16. > :10:21.belief conveys itself to every single player in the dressing room.

:10:22. > :10:26.That will do it for the boys in blue and four Nigel Pearson. You look

:10:27. > :10:32.back to Leicester City a couple of years ago, Fulham a few years back,

:10:33. > :10:38.it is about a change of mindset. It has all swung Fulham's way. Go back

:10:39. > :10:45.to 2005 when Bryan Robson led West Brom. They were bottom Christmas and

:10:46. > :10:49.everybody said it couldn't be done. Bryan Robson's baggies are staying

:10:50. > :10:57.in the Premiership. In the end, a manager who is able to motivate,

:10:58. > :11:03.inspire and energise, those managers become successful. Relegation is a

:11:04. > :11:08.seemingly innocuous word but it is a powerful or pervasive place to be

:11:09. > :11:12.sometimes. If you think you are doomed, you will be doomed.

:11:13. > :11:14.Chris, you've played in successful sides and you've played

:11:15. > :11:16.in struggling sides, what do you think you need

:11:17. > :11:30.More to look around the dressing room to see what players we had in

:11:31. > :11:32.the dressing room but Middlesbrough and Sunderland are struggling

:11:33. > :11:38.because they don't have the quality of players. But psychologically at

:11:39. > :11:43.this stage in the season you have two stay strong. A lot of it comes

:11:44. > :11:47.from the training ground, organisation and repetition. That is

:11:48. > :11:51.why Sam Allardyce has a big reputation. Because he knows what it

:11:52. > :11:55.is about what you produce on the training ground to take into a match

:11:56. > :12:01.day, so he has tried and tested this formula? Yes, giving the players

:12:02. > :12:12.confidence through organisation. His biggest trick in January was the

:12:13. > :12:19.signing of Sakho. He has galvanised the defence. Maybe there is a self

:12:20. > :12:25.propelling prophecy, Sam Allardyce has done it before, we can relax and

:12:26. > :12:29.play good football. He was linked with Swansea, Sam Allardyce. It was

:12:30. > :12:35.amazing when the fans were talking and they were saying, he will keep

:12:36. > :12:39.us up at all costs, but the football won't be very pretty. He was given.

:12:40. > :12:44.Because he does have this amazing record. When you read player

:12:45. > :12:48.autobiographies, it is amazing how confidence comes into it and how

:12:49. > :12:54.important it is. You would just think players can their own

:12:55. > :12:58.confidence, but they are like sensitive singer songwriters. If

:12:59. > :13:04.they don't score for ten games, they doubt everything. Our players, when

:13:05. > :13:08.we go a goal down, head strop. We need big characters in our team.

:13:09. > :13:12.Ashley Williams was the one who used to lift and galvanise the players

:13:13. > :13:22.when the chips were down. We don't keep clean sheets and we don't score

:13:23. > :13:25.goals. In a nutshell. Clement said he should be sacked and then

:13:26. > :13:30.re-employed to get the bounce back. The first eight games he has won

:13:31. > :13:35.three out of four. I was at his first game at Crystal Palace. I was

:13:36. > :13:39.at Anfield as well. When we beat Liverpool at Anfield I thought,

:13:40. > :13:49.we're not safe, but he is going to do it. He has had an amazing impact.

:13:50. > :13:55.Hull, they haven't got a great squad of players? They made some smart

:13:56. > :14:00.business decisions in January. They lost Livermore and Snodgrass but he

:14:01. > :14:04.does have some decent players in. I saw them at the weekend against

:14:05. > :14:10.Stoke. I think they have a better chance than Swansea. Did you get

:14:11. > :14:15.that? Their away form is horrible, they missed a lot of chances at the

:14:16. > :14:20.weekend. Hull's home form will be enough to keep them up. Third spot,

:14:21. > :14:28.Middlesbrough and Sunderland are gone, who will it be filled by?

:14:29. > :14:39.Swansea. Swansea have their chance, one point. Winnable games. Thanks,

:14:40. > :14:43.never thought that would happen. Burnley are in 14th place, but they

:14:44. > :14:46.have only won once in their last ten games and the only Premier League

:14:47. > :14:50.team without an away victory this season. We have been to the

:14:51. > :15:07.Lancashire countryside to talk to Shaun Batt I should.

:15:08. > :15:17.Do you feel safe now, sitting here? Finding Boyd! A turf war erupts!

:15:18. > :15:23.Know, one thing I definitely know about the Premier League, all levels

:15:24. > :15:26.of football, but this is especially unforgiving. Good runs come round,

:15:27. > :15:30.awkward runs come round equally as quickly, sometimes more so when you

:15:31. > :15:34.are not the superpower of the division. So far we have had a good

:15:35. > :15:37.season, and I would agree with people. We are really keen and

:15:38. > :15:41.working hard with the group to make sure we do what we have too. I know

:15:42. > :15:46.you almost sick of talking about this but if you look at Turf Moor,

:15:47. > :15:53.ten wins is almost unbelievable and achievement but you search for that

:15:54. > :15:56.first win away from home? I'm not sick of talking about it, it is

:15:57. > :16:02.there to be spoken about, an anomaly that is there to be mentioned.

:16:03. > :16:06.We have been closing games, delivering good enough performances

:16:07. > :16:10.to get a win, we haven't got that. Margins have been equally tight at

:16:11. > :16:14.home, sometimes away you need that. Whether it is luck, or good play.

:16:15. > :16:17.The main thing for me, it's points on the board. That has always been

:16:18. > :16:22.the goal this season. See hominy points you get on the board and at

:16:23. > :16:26.the end of the season, you will know. Is the way you get those

:16:27. > :16:32.points important to you? It is a game of opinions and some Burnley

:16:33. > :16:40.fans would say that Boyd and Armfield are Sean Dyche players,

:16:41. > :16:45.what about others? Fans are open to their opinions, they have a bigger

:16:46. > :16:52.say than ever. That's no problem to me. The fact I work is that the team

:16:53. > :16:56.is the strength. Nothing against even, he is a fine player but has to

:16:57. > :17:02.fit into the team on any given day to make it work. And he has had his

:17:03. > :17:10.injuries as well. That is superb from Jeff Hendrick 's! That was like

:17:11. > :17:13.Schmeichel! How difficult is it to manage Premier League players with

:17:14. > :17:17.everything that goes on around Premier League football? I wouldn't

:17:18. > :17:22.have said if you years ago that I would have imagined they are

:17:23. > :17:27.superpower clubs. It's like having 25 mini companies. A lot of these

:17:28. > :17:31.players now are not about just the players, they have agents, Private

:17:32. > :17:34.physios, private sports scientists, that is different here. We are not a

:17:35. > :17:41.giant club. My players don't have two or three

:17:42. > :17:44.agents and specialists, etc. One of the things that is clear in

:17:45. > :17:48.management is that every manager, whatever level, have their own

:17:49. > :17:53.challenges. You have the ridges and the magnificent players, but they

:17:54. > :17:57.take managing -- riches. To get them successful and winning

:17:58. > :18:00.games, ultimately. Everybody has their own challenges, mine or the

:18:01. > :18:04.realities of financing the club and balance that against the team's

:18:05. > :18:06.production, the players being successful for them and the team. In

:18:07. > :18:15.general, the Premier League for anyone involved is all consuming,

:18:16. > :18:18.can you easily switch from the bubble that is the Premier League? I

:18:19. > :18:26.don't think so easily, but you get more used to it. You have those

:18:27. > :18:30.times away from the realities, with your family and things like that.

:18:31. > :18:33.It comes with raising their profile, Burnley are not giants of the

:18:34. > :18:37.division but because of the exposure you get recognised a lot more. I

:18:38. > :18:43.blend well, as you can imagine! Most people say, in my experience, it has

:18:44. > :18:46.been pleasant. Most fans know the hierarchy of the

:18:47. > :18:49.league, not just on a piece of paper, they know where we are in the

:18:50. > :18:53.grand scheme of things. They haven't been of empathy that it

:18:54. > :18:59.is a tough challenge for us all of the time. You look to outperform the

:19:00. > :19:02.market. The keyboard warriors sometimes hide behind acidic terms,

:19:03. > :19:07.but mostly when you meet people they are decent. From the, Darryl Rice

:19:08. > :19:12.say it, the worldwide perspective, there is no doubt that everybody is

:19:13. > :19:15.delighted that Pep Guardiola is here, and Antonio Conte has come for

:19:16. > :19:18.stock as a young English manager, are you ambitious in the Premier

:19:19. > :19:25.League? Do you think one day that you would like a crack at that?

:19:26. > :19:31.Absolutely, as a player you maximise your soft and it's the same as

:19:32. > :19:34.manager. One thing people forget is that a lot of managers in the

:19:35. > :19:36.Premier League have been successful in their own right -- maximise

:19:37. > :19:40.yourself. Not many come from nowhere. But it

:19:41. > :19:45.is the English Premier League, is it important that one day an English

:19:46. > :19:49.manager wins the title in the English Premier League? It would be

:19:50. > :19:52.helpful, it enhances that there are some very good English managers and

:19:53. > :19:56.coaches out there. Eddie Howe for example has done an

:19:57. > :20:00.amazing job. An absolutely fantastic job. If they don't build a statue of

:20:01. > :20:07.him at Bournemouth, I don't know who would! All we can do as British

:20:08. > :20:12.coaches is keep working hard and try to be successful. Over time maybe we

:20:13. > :20:17.will be recognised from one of the biggest clubs? Who knows? And from

:20:18. > :20:22.the supporters view at the weekend this is one of those games, with

:20:23. > :20:25.Zlatan Ibrahimovic... Especially in these parts, the north-west hotbed

:20:26. > :20:29.of football that it is, we have been on the rise for the last few years

:20:30. > :20:32.and playing some of the superpowers of football, for Burnley fans they

:20:33. > :20:37.will be quietly delighted. Even those who question why I don't

:20:38. > :20:48.play Steven! They will be delighted. -- why I don't placed even before.

:20:49. > :20:50.He scores for Burnley! In this wonderful Lancashire setting, can

:20:51. > :20:56.you clear up the story about the Friday for bits and the players

:20:57. > :21:00.going in this river? It's grown legs somewhere, it's a bit of banter with

:21:01. > :21:05.the lads, it isn't weakly. We made one team out of three teams who lost

:21:06. > :21:09.a round robin, and we made them sit in there for a minute.

:21:10. > :21:14.Good fun for the lads on the bridge behind me. We don't do it every

:21:15. > :21:18.week, it isn't a coaching plan! Not something you learn on the Pro

:21:19. > :21:24.Licence? You would be surprised that this range stories going out. It is

:21:25. > :21:27.cold, no matter what time of year, trust me! I will decline your

:21:28. > :21:34.invitation but thank you for your time!

:21:35. > :21:36.They are not mathematically safe yet...

:21:37. > :21:38.Burnley have been in the Premier League before

:21:39. > :21:49.Will they do it? The Swansea team are in real trouble, but Shaun Daesh

:21:50. > :21:54.is a realist. He knows the players that he has, and their strengths and

:21:55. > :21:58.weaknesses. And he plays to their strengths. They are organised, they

:21:59. > :22:01.have more of a goal threat this season compared to last time they

:22:02. > :22:04.were in the Premier League. He's done an unbelievable job and I

:22:05. > :22:09.thought at the start of the season they would be in a relegation scrap.

:22:10. > :22:13.They are not really down where Swansea and Hull are at the moment,

:22:14. > :22:16.fighting for their lives. What do you admire about what he's done from

:22:17. > :22:20.a distance? He looks like someone who can motivate the players, he

:22:21. > :22:27.looks like a shout and personally I would not respond to that, but a lot

:22:28. > :22:31.of footballers do -- shouter. And Turf Moor is a very old-fashioned

:22:32. > :22:35.ground, they've got that going for them. They are an anomaly in their

:22:36. > :22:40.home form? Yes, it's a different experience going there to Old

:22:41. > :22:44.Trafford or the emirates or Anfield. Did that bother you? That the fans

:22:45. > :22:49.were right on top of you? Not really, it's an old-fashioned ground

:22:50. > :22:53.but they've got a tremendous home form, but I disagree about the

:22:54. > :22:57.shouting thing, in terms of... It is the information. Players will see

:22:58. > :23:02.through a manager if they are talking nonsense in a second. The

:23:03. > :23:07.Burnley, they do not play fantasy couple. He keeps the players

:23:08. > :23:11.grounded. That is why they have been successful this season -- but

:23:12. > :23:21.Burnley do not play Fantasy Football Club appears a fan of Howe, he wants

:23:22. > :23:23.a statue of him at Bournemouth. There are not many managers like

:23:24. > :23:28.that in the Premier League, where can they take Burnley? Do they have

:23:29. > :23:32.too aspired to be stoic, cementing a place in the middle of the Premier

:23:33. > :23:36.League? I think that Burnley fans will take that, don't get too far

:23:37. > :23:39.ahead of themselves -- should they aspire to be Stoke?

:23:40. > :23:41.Elis' good friend, John Robins, lives and breathes football.

:24:33. > :24:37.But I have a secret, I've never been to a game. You aren't a real fan.

:24:38. > :24:41.You aren't a real fan. As tedious and argument as it is possible to

:24:42. > :24:46.have come as you don't get it in any other sport. I'm upset with the

:24:47. > :24:51.Ryder Cup, utterly absurd. Nobody has had a go at me for not flying to

:24:52. > :24:54.Madonna in 2012. Like a normal human being I watched it in a friend 's

:24:55. > :25:00.flat and scared a girl I did not know by screaming at Martin Kaymer.

:25:01. > :25:03.So, why don't you go? Why don't you go and watch the beautiful lake

:25:50. > :25:54.like solitude! For the armchair and use yes, maybe that should not be a

:25:55. > :25:57.derogatory term any more. They are amazing! Maybe you are supposed to

:25:58. > :26:02.take the Mickey and utter those dreaded words, that you aren't a

:26:03. > :26:06.real fan. How many times have you heard this? The atmosphere was

:26:13. > :26:16.first goal because I was at the bar, it was amazing but you wouldn't know

:26:17. > :26:21.that, would you? No, I wouldn't. Cheers!

:26:22. > :26:27.I can't imagine you've got a lot of empathy with John there, he's never

:26:32. > :26:36.right, no empathy! I can see why you are friends! I can't believe you

:26:37. > :26:43.haven't managed to persuade him to come with you! On a sunny Saturday

:26:44. > :26:47.afternoon to watch Swansea... I tried my best, you really doesn't

:27:04. > :27:07.game, or into Milan versus AC Milan. He is a huge golf fan, I get that

:27:08. > :27:14.point, but he's never been to the Ryder Cup. There are some pure and

:27:15. > :27:19.chess boards fans. Maybe we made it too easy? You did not have the

:27:20. > :27:26.amount of sport on TV that we do now when you were kids... -- pure

:27:27. > :27:32.armchair sports fans. You don't have to defend your friendship! It's an

:27:33. > :27:35.awkward position... I know a lot of tennis fans who have been to
