:00:28. > :00:29.Good afternoon, welcome to MOTD2 Extra on BBC Two,

:00:30. > :00:39.Joining me today former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann,

:00:40. > :00:44.former Everton midfielder Leon Osman and the Sunday Times football

:00:45. > :00:53.#bbcfootball on social media, or text 85058 if you

:00:54. > :01:09.Here is what is coming up this lunchtime. Chelsea's rivals all but

:01:10. > :01:14.concede the tiet wl Antonio Conte's side nine points clear. Dietmar

:01:15. > :01:18.Hamann said it was madness to give Jurgen Klopp a six-year deal. What

:01:19. > :01:26.next for Liverpool after one win in ten. We will hear from Jermain Defoe

:01:27. > :01:31.as he helps Sunderland to a win over Crystal Palace and Claudio Ranieri

:01:32. > :01:38.and Jose Mourinho have been under pressure. These are some of the back

:01:39. > :01:45.page headlines. A bridge too far said the Star saying Arsene Wenger

:01:46. > :01:50.conseepeds the title. Mark Hughes concerned that information about

:01:51. > :01:56.Saido Berahino's drugs ban came out before their match with West Brom.

:01:57. > :02:01.And Claudio Ranieri giving his side an ultimatum - back me or get me

:02:02. > :02:06.sacked. We will start though with the title race. Jonathan Northcroft

:02:07. > :02:13.with Chelsea and Arsenal and that 3-1 win and if we take it when every

:02:14. > :02:20.game has played 24 games at least, only Newcastle who were nine points

:02:21. > :02:27.clear in February 1996 finished second. And Manchester United blew

:02:28. > :02:33.an eight point lead, everyone is conceding? Yes this is the weekend

:02:34. > :02:38.the title was won. Chelsea had their two biggest games and you saw a

:02:39. > :02:42.mature, relentless side who knew how to handle the pressure and won

:02:43. > :02:46.yesterday with something to spare and should have beaten Liverpool and

:02:47. > :02:50.if you look at the points total, they could break the record of 95.

:02:51. > :02:54.This is a team, I can't see it slipping up. They're setting stand

:02:55. > :03:01.arounds that no one else is getting near. -- standards. If you look at

:03:02. > :03:05.that defeat against Arsenal, that left Chelsea back then eight points

:03:06. > :03:10.behind City, the leaders and in eighth place. That was a water shed

:03:11. > :03:14.moment? Yes and they had a disappointing game with Liverpool at

:03:15. > :03:17.Stamford Bridge, where Liverpool beat them and people were

:03:18. > :03:21.questioning the manager, whether he can adapt to the English league and

:03:22. > :03:27.will last to Christmas or how quickly he can change things around.

:03:28. > :03:36.What a turn around. I watched him at Anfield in midweek and I was

:03:37. > :03:38.impressed. In Kante they have the best holding midfielder in the

:03:39. > :03:50.world. Matic is outstanding and they have the base with the back three,

:03:51. > :03:55.Luiz playing that free role like Beckenbauer. He can pick his

:03:56. > :04:00.challenges and in Diego Costa and Hazard they have game-changers. They

:04:01. > :04:04.look the real deal. Leon Osman what is it about Chelsea, they're not

:04:05. > :04:07.setting the world on fire and playing sensational football, but

:04:08. > :04:13.they're getting the job done. That is it. If you look at them, they're

:04:14. > :04:18.like a machine. They're constantly performing at a high level and don't

:04:19. > :04:23.look like they're going to slip up. Don't look like there will be any

:04:24. > :04:27.human errors and they look well-oiled and we are seeing that

:04:28. > :04:32.the league's pretty much over and you can see why. You can't see the

:04:33. > :04:39.machine slipping up. And I'm wearing my anorak, because it is a brilliant

:04:40. > :04:46.stated, 38 home games, including a bit of Juventus as well for Antonio

:04:47. > :04:54.Conte. How many wins? 36. 95% win rash yoep at home -- ratio at home.

:04:55. > :04:58.These are the kind of stats that Jose Mourinho arrived with after

:04:59. > :05:03.being at Porto at Chelsea. Those are the echos you hear looking at that

:05:04. > :05:07.Chelsea team. It is that relentless machine-like Chelsea that Mourinho

:05:08. > :05:11.built and a manager that is so in charge of the team and used to

:05:12. > :05:15.winning, it looks familiar and bad for the rest of the league. What

:05:16. > :05:19.does it say about the rest of Premier League? Slackers? No, I

:05:20. > :05:24.wouldn't say that, you have a team that plays at a very high level,

:05:25. > :05:28.unbeaten in so many games and don't concede many and they have the

:05:29. > :05:34.credentials of a Championship-winning team. I don't

:05:35. > :05:38.think it says a lot about the rest of league are no good, but one team

:05:39. > :05:42.are better than the four or five chasing them and nine points is a

:05:43. > :05:47.lot. Barring injuries, I think they will win the league. But you have to

:05:48. > :05:53.see, City's going well and Spurs won't go away. I think six or seven

:05:54. > :05:58.good teams in the league, but one is outstanding. If one of the six or

:05:59. > :06:04.seven are good, one are Arsenal and Chelsea have been nicking games, but

:06:05. > :06:09.this was a real message yesterday? Yes, a lot of people were saying

:06:10. > :06:16.Arsenal were potentially still in the title race. I didn't believe so,

:06:17. > :06:21.but Chelsea destroyed Arsenal and sent a message not only to Arsenal,

:06:22. > :06:25.but to the Premier League and the fans that they're the team running

:06:26. > :06:29.away with the league at the moment. They're going to be very difficult

:06:30. > :06:35.to catch. It does show how bad we were at predictions. We didn't

:06:36. > :06:39.predict Leicester and this year we thought it would be between the

:06:40. > :06:45.Manchester clubs and be tight and it is one of the most one siepded in

:06:46. > :06:49.years. -- One sided in years. Glenn Hoddle said you can never be sure

:06:50. > :06:55.the league is done and dusted in February, but that is what it felt

:06:56. > :07:01.like. And one said, it felt like a school game with a lower age gap and

:07:02. > :07:08.you have a trial against the year 11s. Yes Chelsea bullied Arsenal and

:07:09. > :07:14.Diego Costa was bullying the defender and Kante and Matic were

:07:15. > :07:19.ruling that area. It is the way they win games. It is not just the fact

:07:20. > :07:28.they're winning, but the dominance they're showing and they have that

:07:29. > :07:35.ruthlessness that Chelsea with Jose Mourinho had. They're physically,

:07:36. > :07:40.you said the trial game, Chelsea look like that, they're so

:07:41. > :07:44.physically big and mature and even the small players dominate the pitch

:07:45. > :07:48.and that leads to even if they're not playing well, because they have

:07:49. > :07:52.not played well in every game, but they still win the games and always

:07:53. > :07:57.in the game and they have Diego Costa to nick the goals. Arsenal

:07:58. > :08:00.started badly against Watford and were 2-0 down within ten minutes.

:08:01. > :08:05.That is the difference for me, that just doesn't happen to Chelsea. When

:08:06. > :08:10.you look at Chelsea's next six games, Burnley, Swansea, West Ham,

:08:11. > :08:14.Watford, Stoke, Palace and the top six, they only play two between the

:08:15. > :08:22.end of season. Manchester City and Manchester United. Now Arsenal,

:08:23. > :08:28.Didi, who takes responsibility for what's happening at Arsenal. It is

:08:29. > :08:32.just Arsene Wenger? How broad does it go? It has to be the manager. He

:08:33. > :08:39.is the man bringing the players in. They spent money. He was accused

:08:40. > :08:43.years ago he does not spend money. He brought a player from Barcelona

:08:44. > :08:48.and one from Real Madrid. So they spent money. And they have not

:08:49. > :08:52.progressed. They're in danger for the first time in years to miss out

:08:53. > :08:56.on the top four place, because they have been in the the Champions

:08:57. > :09:00.League for 15 or 16 years and the chase for the title is over and I

:09:01. > :09:05.just don't see the team progressing. When you look at a team and you

:09:06. > :09:11.bring in new players, you want progress. If you see progress, you

:09:12. > :09:18.can give him a year or two. I don't know who turns up to a game with an

:09:19. > :09:23.enough is enough banner. But the old rear guard, noft turning against him

:09:24. > :09:28.-- not turning against him but questioning him. This is Ian Wright

:09:29. > :09:34.last night. You have a tough couple of months and when you think Arsenal

:09:35. > :09:37.are doing what they're doing at time of the season, when they're slipping

:09:38. > :09:43.up and falling away, you have to say he has got a real serious think to

:09:44. > :09:50.do at the end of the season. What he wants to do. Has he got the stomach

:09:51. > :09:55.to do it again. You hear the sadness in his voice. No one wants to attack

:09:56. > :09:59.Arsene Wenger and the ex-Arsenal players owe a lot to him. But the

:10:00. > :10:05.fact they're saying this is significant. You look at things like

:10:06. > :10:10.a week ago Arsene Wenger said he had the best strike force he had and he

:10:11. > :10:17.said perfect the Watford game -- he said before the Watford game we are

:10:18. > :10:21.prepared and then they're 2-0 down. Things like that makes people wonder

:10:22. > :10:26.if he has got the grip on the club and the direction that it needs and

:10:27. > :10:30.it is sad, but we have been here before with Arsene Wenger. He

:10:31. > :10:35.usually endses up with a new contract. Manchester City can take

:10:36. > :10:40.advantage of the slip ups of Arsenal and Liverpool, they take on Swansea

:10:41. > :10:47.today. Our correspondent is at the Etihad. Yes, great excitement here

:10:48. > :10:52.after City's recent performances in London against Palace and West Ham.

:10:53. > :10:56.Great excitement Trevor Sinclair about Gabriel Jesus. How excited

:10:57. > :11:03.should City fans be about this kid? I think he could be one of the best.

:11:04. > :11:09.He is so exciting and you look at the front three, with Sane and Rahim

:11:10. > :11:17.has hit form and it is just amazing amount of pace they have. For any

:11:18. > :11:23.defence facing them three and Aguero, they will be fearing facing

:11:24. > :11:31.that and the pace they go at teamles is incredible. That is the $64

:11:32. > :11:36.million question - is it plus Aguero or does Gabriel Jesus play instead

:11:37. > :11:40.of him? Potentially that could be the case. But they're both going to

:11:41. > :11:44.do the job and I'm sure at times looking for the Champions League

:11:45. > :11:47.games Aguero will be needed. You look at Gabriel Jesus, he has

:11:48. > :11:52.everything. He is strong, he is powerful, he is fearless. He said

:11:53. > :11:57.I'm cold. And for me that, I was impressed with that. He won't get

:11:58. > :12:04.nervous. He won't get too down when he plays bad. He will stayed in

:12:05. > :12:10.middle and the best way to bring the best out of himself. Are you sure it

:12:11. > :12:14.is not just because he has come to Manchester. He is not bothered about

:12:15. > :12:21.the weather. He takes the game by the scruff of the neck. He reminds

:12:22. > :12:27.me of Wrighty with his attitude and he had a chance against West Ham and

:12:28. > :12:32.the ball didn't come to him and he was hands up in the air, 19, we have

:12:33. > :12:36.to remember that, the experience at 19. A special talent. If Swansea

:12:37. > :12:43.were coming here a month ago, everybody would be saying they're

:12:44. > :12:48.going to get battered. But Paul Clement has had an immediate effect

:12:49. > :12:53.on the team. Yes, the players have responded well to his coaching. He

:12:54. > :12:58.has so much experience. It didn't work at Derby, but I think that

:12:59. > :13:03.makes him a better manager, he will have a look at things, where did he

:13:04. > :13:09.go wrong and he has moved on and started well. The players enjoy

:13:10. > :13:16.playing for him. Sigurdsson could walk into most sides in the top six,

:13:17. > :13:22.and Llorente, he is getting a song out of him. They're a dangerous club

:13:23. > :13:26.to be facing today. But City seem to have so much fire power and

:13:27. > :13:31.confidence and Vincent back and there is confidence growing. If they

:13:32. > :13:37.can get a win they will be third and closing the gap. Thank you. Trev's

:13:38. > :13:48.on five live later. I will be on Match of the Day Two later. . Loving

:13:49. > :13:52.that outfit for Trevor. Manchester City and Swansea kick off at half

:13:53. > :13:59.one. We are waiting for the teams news. Aguero left on the bench

:14:00. > :14:04.against West Ham. Can you imagine him being left out. What is his

:14:05. > :14:09.future with Gabriel Jesus? I can, because there is a younger player

:14:10. > :14:14.who looks equally, doesn't have his record yet, but he is some player.

:14:15. > :14:17.What struck me is in two and a half appearances, he made himself a focus

:14:18. > :14:21.of everything. That is the kind of thing that superstars do. A long way

:14:22. > :14:25.to go. Not saying he will be a superstar, but he has that thing

:14:26. > :14:33.about him and for Aguero there is somebody else in town that is a

:14:34. > :14:40.contender. I think he could get left out. City have a lot of games coming

:14:41. > :14:45.out. He will want to blood Jesus as quickly as he can. He is a top

:14:46. > :14:49.player. But you know, you forget that Aguero's played a lot of games

:14:50. > :14:53.and started all the games. Top teams are the ones that go and try and win

:14:54. > :14:59.the leagues and more than one trophy. You can have two or three

:15:00. > :15:04.strikers firing and the manager chooses when to bring them out.

:15:05. > :15:08.There has been so much pressure on Aguero and I think it is a good

:15:09. > :15:16.thing for City they have somebody else. Is the issue one of your old

:15:17. > :15:23.clubs this ageing prospect and I'm getting confirmation, Aguero on the

:15:24. > :15:27.bench and Gabriel Jesus starting. Is it the age factor and eleven players

:15:28. > :15:34.over 30 and just four under the age of 22. Is there a quick fix to that?

:15:35. > :15:42.There is no quick fix. It is not always good when you bring in young

:15:43. > :15:48.players. You need players of the right edge. If you had these

:15:49. > :15:53.players, 26, up into 30, it is the best age for football. You need

:15:54. > :15:58.these players as well. There was a game last year were they did not

:15:59. > :16:02.have one player under 29 and the page, way to Crystal Palace. They

:16:03. > :16:06.needed to bring in young players. I still think Aguero will have a big

:16:07. > :16:12.role to play, because as Leon said, there was big responsibility on him.

:16:13. > :16:15.Since the goals have dried up from Yaya Toure, they have not had the

:16:16. > :16:19.threat from midfield. De Bruyne is probably the biggest threat from

:16:20. > :16:24.midfield. They need someone to take the pressure away from Aguero. It

:16:25. > :16:30.gives him more space. We will maybe see him late in the game today. It

:16:31. > :16:40.can only be positive. City need someone to take the weight of the

:16:41. > :16:46.shoulders of Aguero. We will see that game later on Match Of The Day

:16:47. > :16:51.two. What a win yesterday for Sunderland at Crystal Palace. 4-0.

:16:52. > :16:56.Two goals from this man, Jermain Defoe, who joins us on the phone.

:16:57. > :17:00.Good afternoon. What was that journey like going back to the

:17:01. > :17:07.north-east? I am actually still in London. I watched Tottenham last

:17:08. > :17:12.night. It was a nice time to show your face when you have won 1-0. It

:17:13. > :17:16.was a performance that we needed. It was always going to be a difficult

:17:17. > :17:23.game. It is always difficult when you're playing the teams around you.

:17:24. > :17:31.It was a six pointer. Is specially playing against some Allardyce team.

:17:32. > :17:35.They are always direct and physical. It was important that we dictated

:17:36. > :17:42.how the game was going to go. To win the way we did was unbelievable. The

:17:43. > :17:46.Sunderland fans, if they are 30 and they are not grey or bold, they are

:17:47. > :17:52.doing well. What are you doing to them? The journey you have been on

:17:53. > :17:58.over the last five seasons, it has been all relegation battles. I do

:17:59. > :18:05.not know. For some reason, it is how it has been. It is important that we

:18:06. > :18:08.stay focused. Because we have done it before, we have been in this

:18:09. > :18:17.position before, we know what we're doing. We would rather not be in

:18:18. > :18:21.this position. It is what it is. It is important we stick together and

:18:22. > :18:24.try and get some results. On a personal point of view, everyone

:18:25. > :18:28.always talks about you being underappreciated in the Premier

:18:29. > :18:34.League over the years. Do you feel that way? Not really. I do not think

:18:35. > :18:38.I have been underappreciated. It is nice when people say that, but it is

:18:39. > :18:42.not something I have thought about over the years. The only thing I

:18:43. > :18:49.have really thought about, if I am being honest, I have always felt

:18:50. > :18:53.like I could have played more games for England in certain parts of my

:18:54. > :18:57.career when I was playing well. What have you done, have you run over

:18:58. > :19:03.someone's dog at the FA? I do not know. I get asked that question

:19:04. > :19:07.every day. I just get my head down. I have always been one of those

:19:08. > :19:12.players, I worked hard and I love scoring goals. That satisfies me.

:19:13. > :19:17.I'm playing for a top football club when I am appreciated. The fans are

:19:18. > :19:21.brilliant. I love scoring goals. That is what I need to focus on and

:19:22. > :19:27.anything that comes after that is a bonus. It is Jonathan. You have

:19:28. > :19:30.scored another two goals yesterday. You are for Baggio scored more goals

:19:31. > :19:36.than you have ever done in your career. Have you improved something

:19:37. > :19:40.about your game? I do not think I have improved anything about my

:19:41. > :19:47.game. I just feel like I probably understand my body more than when I

:19:48. > :19:52.was younger. For me, the key thing is not the game, it is how I recover

:19:53. > :19:59.between the game. I will make sure my recovery is good. Away from

:20:00. > :20:02.training, I always try and do the right thing. I give myself the best

:20:03. > :20:07.opportunity to perform at the weekend. As far as the game goes, I

:20:08. > :20:13.do not think I have changed anything. My game has not changed. I

:20:14. > :20:18.can still running behind. Sometimes I come short. At the age of 34, it

:20:19. > :20:25.is nice. I do not feel like I need to adapt my game. Be honest with me,

:20:26. > :20:30.Jermain, it is just us on the phone, there is no one listening, at the

:20:31. > :20:36.end of the day, in terms of the relegation battle at the bottom, can

:20:37. > :20:39.you forget about it, or is it like some Allardyce when he was at

:20:40. > :20:46.Sunderland, he is Ops thinking about it all night? -- he is awake

:20:47. > :20:51.thinking about it. It is a lot of pressure. At times the relegation

:20:52. > :20:57.fight can be stressful. I just enjoy it. I look forward to the next game.

:20:58. > :21:02.That is the great thing about football, even when you're not

:21:03. > :21:09.playing well, when you have a bad result, the next game still comes

:21:10. > :21:13.around quickly, you can rectify it. Yesterday we won 4-0. You went the

:21:14. > :21:17.next game to come around quickly, which it well. I will try to enjoy

:21:18. > :21:23.it and not think about the position we're in. I will focus on scoring

:21:24. > :21:27.for the team. The goals are needed. I know how important the goals are.

:21:28. > :21:33.That is why I am even more focused than I was years ago. I imagine you

:21:34. > :21:37.do not really care much how some Allardyce feels this morning, your

:21:38. > :21:40.old manager. I do not know if you saw that interview with Jacqui

:21:41. > :21:45.Oatley, he said he was shell-shocked and heard. He looked like he was

:21:46. > :21:53.bewildered by what had happened. I sent him a message after the game. I

:21:54. > :22:01.wanted to say hello. I do not have the opportunity. Did it say LOL. No.

:22:02. > :22:08.I wanted is beat him after the game but they did not have the chance. I

:22:09. > :22:12.messaged him after the game. Some Allardyce was great for us.

:22:13. > :22:16.Obviously it is not nice seeing him in that way. At the end of the day,

:22:17. > :22:21.you can only do what is best for your team. Ara Gaffer, David Moyes,

:22:22. > :22:24.he was absolutely delighted. The work he has put in on the training

:22:25. > :22:30.pitch, trying to improve the players every day, bringing in the new

:22:31. > :22:32.signings, you could say it was a perfect performance yesterday. On

:22:33. > :22:38.our side of it, everyone is delighted and happy. I can imagine

:22:39. > :22:43.that some Allardyce is not best pleased. Thank you for joining us.

:22:44. > :22:46.Top man. Best of luck for the rest of the season.

:22:47. > :22:51.The Sunderland striker, Jermain Defoe. Leon Osman, that is the kind

:22:52. > :22:57.of result, I was listening to it yesterday on final score, and you

:22:58. > :23:00.think, really? It is one of those. Looking at the game, you thought it

:23:01. > :23:07.would be close. Either team could win. If one was going to, you would

:23:08. > :23:11.probably have picked Crystal Palace. Sunderland have been struggling.

:23:12. > :23:17.They have made some good signings, Bryan Oviedo from Everton, Darron

:23:18. > :23:21.Gibson. He will know what he can get out of them how quickly can

:23:22. > :23:26.introduce them. Bryan Oviedo played yesterday and did well. It was a

:23:27. > :23:31.great result. You are the only one who is missing. I am waiting by the

:23:32. > :23:37.phone. I do not go out in case it is going to ring! Sunderland have had

:23:38. > :23:41.belief in themselves. I do not think anyone else thought they would win

:23:42. > :23:46.that game. Credit to them, to score four goals await any ground is a

:23:47. > :23:50.great achievement. But in a bottom of the table clash like that, it was

:23:51. > :23:56.vital. Didi, I want your thoughts on what some Allardyce has had to say.

:23:57. > :24:02.Let's listen to the Crystal Palace boss. For me, it looks like fear.

:24:03. > :24:06.For me, the fear we are suffering at Crystal Palace is evident. It was

:24:07. > :24:11.Swansea, the last time we had the game as big as this. These games are

:24:12. > :24:16.bigger than playing Man United, Chelsea, because they are 6-points.

:24:17. > :24:21.The fear has gripped the players and has not allowed them to express the

:24:22. > :24:27.ability they have God. I cannot think it is anything other than

:24:28. > :24:32.that, having experienced it. It is difficult because the fans are so

:24:33. > :24:36.good here. They come to support the club. It is a sell-out today. They

:24:37. > :24:41.are desperate for the club to do well. The dead behind the players.

:24:42. > :24:46.It is not often the players get criticism, and they deserved the

:24:47. > :24:50.booing they got today. I will have to apologise because of what the

:24:51. > :24:54.first-half performance was like. It is my responsibility to get it

:24:55. > :24:59.right. With the rest of the staff, I will continue to work as hard as I

:25:00. > :25:02.can to turn that around. Jonathan Northcroft, Didi Hamann and Leon

:25:03. > :25:10.Osman joining with -- with us if you're listening on five live. You

:25:11. > :25:14.are the -- you are in the Crystal Palace team, and you have just heard

:25:15. > :25:20.the manager say that you deserve to get booed. What do you think of

:25:21. > :25:24.that? If you lose 4-0, and you concede four goals by half-time

:25:25. > :25:30.against a team that is second bottom of the table, it is probably right.

:25:31. > :25:35.If there is a problem, he has to identify it. If he thinks he knows

:25:36. > :25:40.it is fear, that is a good thing. But how does he address it? I worry

:25:41. > :25:44.for Crystal Palace. They have always been a team that is hard to beat.

:25:45. > :25:51.They did not concede many goals and they had exciting players going

:25:52. > :25:55.forward. Some Allardyce bases his success on defence. They have got to

:25:56. > :26:00.sort it out quickly. The teams around them, Sunderland, Hull, they

:26:01. > :26:05.all show glimpses of life. They are a team that you would rely upon to

:26:06. > :26:08.win at home. That has always been at the heart of their success, through

:26:09. > :26:14.their history and in the Premier League. Some Allardyce has been

:26:15. > :26:19.there for a game now and he has only one victory. That impact has not

:26:20. > :26:22.happened. He is calling out the players. Perhaps it is a desperate

:26:23. > :26:27.thing to do. We will see if he gets a reaction. From the point of view

:26:28. > :26:32.of the players, you accept that. You're losing 4-0 two Sunderland,

:26:33. > :26:38.who are bottom of the league, at half-time. You go on to lose the

:26:39. > :26:44.game. It is bad. You expect to face the wrath of the fans. It would be

:26:45. > :26:48.strange if you did not. You look at Crystal Palace, and as Jonathan has

:26:49. > :26:52.said, you expect them to win their home games. It was always a

:26:53. > :26:54.difficult place to play football and trying get the result. You were

:26:55. > :27:00.always up against it, no matter where they were in the league. Some

:27:01. > :27:06.Allardyce has not won a league game at home. They won a league game away

:27:07. > :27:12.at Bournemouth. When you're in that sort of trouble, what does that sort

:27:13. > :27:16.of emotional hurt do to you? It should make you go out and put it

:27:17. > :27:20.right in the next game. You do not want that happening again. The worst

:27:21. > :27:25.you can do when you next go out there is run around until you cannot

:27:26. > :27:29.run any more, giving your all. That is probably the question about the

:27:30. > :27:34.Crystal Palace team at the moment, I'll be doing that? On paper, people

:27:35. > :27:38.said they have got a good team, too good to go down. But if they are not

:27:39. > :27:43.showing that on the jihadist, they will be trouble. I think the award

:27:44. > :27:47.for the idiot of the day or week goes to that Crystal Palace fan.

:27:48. > :27:54.Trying to punch one of the players from the team you support is not the

:27:55. > :27:57.way to show you care. I think he was dealt with quickly. I am not sure he

:27:58. > :28:02.will be seeing many Crystal Palace game again. Let's talk about

:28:03. > :28:06.Liverpool. Madness to give Jurgen Klopp a new six-year deal in the

:28:07. > :28:11.summer just gone. That was your quote from this morning. You going

:28:12. > :28:19.to talk about that? If you want to. I am not quite sure you believe it.

:28:20. > :28:24.Jonathan is responsible. Sensationalist journalism. I found

:28:25. > :28:28.it strange in the summer. If you look at the facts, Jurgen Klopp

:28:29. > :28:33.cumin, he changed the perception in the City, at the club. It gave the

:28:34. > :28:39.fans and the people in the City a bit more common-sense. In Liverpool,

:28:40. > :28:44.people are either ecstatic because things are going well, or they are

:28:45. > :28:49.almost suicidal because things are not going well. It is either black

:28:50. > :28:54.or white in Liverpool. He gave them more common-sense. He had an impact.

:28:55. > :28:59.He improved some players, but if you look at the facts, even in the

:29:00. > :29:03.summer, I do not think the points average improve dramatically if

:29:04. > :29:08.anything from Brendan Rodgers. You get to two finals and Liz two. I

:29:09. > :29:12.think both could have been won, especially the second one against

:29:13. > :29:16.civil-mac. That would have had an impact because he would've got the

:29:17. > :29:22.Champions League. -- against Seville. People talk about

:29:23. > :29:26.stability. You do not get stability by giving someone a six-year

:29:27. > :29:31.contract. You get that from being smart and the transfer market. Have

:29:32. > :29:35.they done that? I do not think they have. If you do not fancy the left

:29:36. > :29:40.back, bring one in in the summer. James Milner is a great team player,

:29:41. > :29:44.a great player to have around the place, but he cannot play him all

:29:45. > :29:50.the time at left back. A new keeper has been brought in and he has not

:29:51. > :29:53.function so Mignolet is back. I think Liverpool are too weak in the

:29:54. > :30:00.midfield. I think they need a holding midfielder. I watched them

:30:01. > :30:04.against Chelsea. He had two plumper players in N'Golo Kante and Nemanja

:30:05. > :30:10.Matic. In Liverpool I do not see enough purpose and structure. -- two

:30:11. > :30:14.proper players. They should get Didi Hamann in the dressing room at

:30:15. > :30:20.half-time. That would sort it. Listening to that, are you

:30:21. > :30:23.suggesting, Didi, apart from Klopp coming in and talking common-sense

:30:24. > :30:26.that the club has gone backwards after Brendan Rodgers?

:30:27. > :30:34.He said I need too win a trophy. I home he is there for six years,

:30:35. > :30:38.because that means the club will be successful. If you look at the

:30:39. > :30:42.table, six or eight weeks ago they were favourite to win the title. A

:30:43. > :30:47.lot of people said Liverpool could be a threat to Chelsea this season.

:30:48. > :30:52.Now, they drop out of the top four if City win today and there is a big

:30:53. > :30:56.question mark whether they finish in the top four and there is another

:30:57. > :31:03.huge two games with Southampton, where I think it was a fantastic

:31:04. > :31:07.opportunity to get that first trophy and they failed gloriously. My issue

:31:08. > :31:12.with the team is in recent years when there was a final or a

:31:13. > :31:15.semi-final, when ever the chips were down, the team failed. That hasn't

:31:16. > :31:20.changed with him. Whether he can change with that crop of players or

:31:21. > :31:25.he needs to change most of the team, I don't know. But I think something

:31:26. > :31:31.has to change, the way the team has been going is not good enough.

:31:32. > :31:38.Damning verdict. That comment came about because we were talking about

:31:39. > :31:43.you build success and I think it is what it says, giving someone a

:31:44. > :31:52.six-year contract when they have lost two finals. Liverpool as a club

:31:53. > :31:55.has been built on winning, and Jurgen Klopp's brilliant, we

:31:56. > :32:00.recognise his abilities, he may be the right man. But at that point to

:32:01. > :32:05.give a guy a contract extension when he has not won something goes

:32:06. > :32:11.against what Liverpool used to stand for. Take the contract issue of the

:32:12. > :32:17.of the way, have Liverpool not just had a bad month. Couldn't it be an

:32:18. > :32:22.over reaction. Arsenal were renowned for having a bad November. This is

:32:23. > :32:28.his first and a half season, has he just had a bad month? They have got

:32:29. > :32:34.knocked out of both cups and lost a couple of league games and as we

:32:35. > :32:40.have noticed with Pep Guardiola, and Ronald Koeman, coming in with

:32:41. > :32:47.Everton and having a run of bad games, are they not learning, it is

:32:48. > :32:52.his first full season. He tried to mix the team up against Southampton

:32:53. > :32:56.and Plymouth and Wolves, maybe he, maybe next season he will think, I

:32:57. > :33:01.have learned me lesson and move on. Sometimes you have got to see a

:33:02. > :33:05.perspective on it. Looking Leon Osman getting the Liverpool view.

:33:06. > :33:17.That is the difference between a good and bad month. I'm an ever

:33:18. > :33:24.tonian, I want to keep him. You can't have a a bad run, if you look

:33:25. > :33:31.at teams they did lose, lost to Southampton and Swansea and Wolves.

:33:32. > :33:36.I think he should have after losing to Swansea and not beating

:33:37. > :33:39.Southampton, he should have picked a strong team and they should have won

:33:40. > :33:43.that game. He picked the team he felt would win and didn't to set

:33:44. > :33:48.himself up for the Chelsea game. If he had that opportunity again, maybe

:33:49. > :33:55.he would do it different. That is what I mean about learning the

:33:56. > :33:59.league. We need to move on, but huge credit to Marco Silva? Yes they look

:34:00. > :34:04.a different team and they're still putting the team together. There are

:34:05. > :34:10.new signings. They look like they're capable of surviving and they looked

:34:11. > :34:16.dead a few weeks ago. Jack said Jurgen Klopp is finding out pressing

:34:17. > :34:22.like mad men will make you hit the wall quicker in England. They can't

:34:23. > :34:27.break teams down and the clubs know how to play against him. A big game

:34:28. > :34:32.in the Championship with Leeds playing Huddersfield. The most

:34:33. > :34:43.anticipated West Yorkshire Derby in years. 1-1 at the break. Brown put

:34:44. > :34:49.the home side ahead. A ball by Smith and Brown pounced. Leeds equalised

:34:50. > :34:52.eight minutes later, Hernandez with the cross and Huddersfield defence

:34:53. > :35:04.too busy waiting for an offside to be called. But Wood bundled home.

:35:05. > :35:13.And there have been two chances for Huddersfield. But at the break it is

:35:14. > :35:21.1-1. Thank you. Now Everton, 6-3 winners, what a game that was for

:35:22. > :35:26.the neutral and the Everton fans. Romelu Lukaku, where is he in his

:35:27. > :35:30.career, rejected by Chelsea, had a decent loan at West Brom. Has he

:35:31. > :35:35.done everything he could do after being pushed out by Mourinho? Yes,

:35:36. > :35:40.he is a goal scorer and he wants to score goals. That is what he has

:35:41. > :35:45.done. He has come to Everton and playing some really great football.

:35:46. > :35:50.He looks deadly in front of goal. I don't fancy him missing chances in

:35:51. > :35:57.the box. As a striker, what more can you ask? He is scoring regularly and

:35:58. > :36:02.you forget he is only 23. And at that stage he is probably still

:36:03. > :36:07.improving and got a bit to go. Does he think he is bigger than Everton?

:36:08. > :36:15.His agent certainly does. Do you think he does, you have trained with

:36:16. > :36:18.him? I don't think he does. But with all your top strikers, they have an

:36:19. > :36:22.arrogance about them. That is probably one of the things that

:36:23. > :36:27.makes them as good as they are. They have a self-belief and they go out

:36:28. > :36:33.and show that on the pitch. Four goals yesterday, top scorer in the

:36:34. > :36:39.Premier League, he deserves to be that arrogance. You don't think he

:36:40. > :36:51.will be there next year. Can you blame the play er? Finishing is one

:36:52. > :36:57.area where me can improve. He gets into good position and he is so

:36:58. > :36:59.powerful and quick. But his finishing yesterday was sublime.

:37:00. > :37:05.There was rumours about Bayern Munich in the summer. There might be

:37:06. > :37:10.big English clubs knocking on the door, or a German or Spanish club, I

:37:11. > :37:17.think that is how good he is. Can you blame the player if he wants to

:37:18. > :37:23.play f a Spanish giant comes in or a Manchester City or Chelsea.

:37:24. > :37:28.Tottenham. I am not sure will they spend the money required. But what

:37:29. > :37:33.it is doing or what he brings to Everton is tremendous. Let's hope he

:37:34. > :37:37.stays for another season. I doubt it. If a big offers come in they

:37:38. > :37:40.will sell him and then they have to plan for next season, because they

:37:41. > :37:48.have a lot of talent there. But he would be a massive loss. What about

:37:49. > :37:52.Everton in general. I said to Ronald Koeman has it become the top six and

:37:53. > :37:58.the best of rest. He said I don't know what the best of the rest is.

:37:59. > :38:02.He can't complain with the six above him? No, but he is a winner and that

:38:03. > :38:07.has been important to Everton. He has not settled for just a good

:38:08. > :38:13.season. He is ambitious, maybe ambitious for himself. That is a

:38:14. > :38:17.factor. The young players coming in, we talked about Tom Davis, that has

:38:18. > :38:27.been important to the team and he has brought in Schneiderlin and that

:38:28. > :38:32.helps and they're two points behind United. I was asked a while back,

:38:33. > :38:36.maybe there was seven or eight points between seventh and sixth a

:38:37. > :38:43.can Everton make up the gap. I have said they have got to believe. If

:38:44. > :38:50.they keep winning games, I feel they're big up to make up the gap.

:38:51. > :38:56.They're clawing that back and with the run of games coming up, they're

:38:57. > :39:04.winnable games. The way Manchester United have been going, they will be

:39:05. > :39:12.thinking we can finish above them. Yes they have been on a great run

:39:13. > :39:17.apart from the cup match. Jonathan, Saido Berahino. West Brom 1, Stoke

:39:18. > :39:22.0. He came off the bench to boos. Has he come out of the situation not

:39:23. > :39:28.looking too shabby. We are talking about Tony Pulis and Mark Hughes and

:39:29. > :39:33.how they have fallen out. Are we missing the bigger picture? Yes it

:39:34. > :39:36.is probably good that it has been about the managers for him. Whether

:39:37. > :39:42.it was right or wrong. For people who don't know, Mark Hughes said he

:39:43. > :39:47.is suspicious about how this story came out before the teams met. West

:39:48. > :39:51.Brom we should say adamant it has been done above board and that all

:39:52. > :39:56.the full details were give on the Stoke. I think these things should

:39:57. > :40:01.come out any way. If you want to deter players from getting involved

:40:02. > :40:06.in drugs, then you have to... Allegedly. You have to name and

:40:07. > :40:14.shame and when somebody fails a test or there is an issue, it should be

:40:15. > :40:21.made public. Why did Jake Livermore's come out and this

:40:22. > :40:25.didn't? I think there is an anonymity. There is a bigger issue,

:40:26. > :40:32.I think we should know. I think that will be a great deterrent. You want

:40:33. > :40:36.to know and it to be above board. But West Brom handled it well to

:40:37. > :40:42.keep it quiet and sell the player, if it had come out, I'm sure the

:40:43. > :40:47.money would be reduced. West Brom handled it well to get as much as

:40:48. > :40:53.they could. Anything to say on the that. No comment. Let's hope he

:40:54. > :41:00.concentrates on his football. Because he is a wonderful talent and

:41:01. > :41:06.it would be a shame if he doesn't fulfil the expectations of him. Only

:41:07. > :41:11.a few minutes left and let's talk about Leicester against Manchester

:41:12. > :41:16.United. Has Jose Mourinho gone on the attack. He has attacked about

:41:17. > :41:21.his own players, saying they haven't that winning mentality and they're

:41:22. > :41:26.in their comfort zones, he has had a go at Pep Guardiola. When he shaves

:41:27. > :41:31.his head, does he turn into somebody else. Yes he has calmed down in

:41:32. > :41:39.recent weeks and that coincided with a good run of results. But I just

:41:40. > :41:44.don't get it when you have a go at the players. Because you will need

:41:45. > :41:51.them again. It is a squad game with 25 games and publicly names and

:41:52. > :41:54.shames people like Mkhitaryan, at some stage you need the players. I

:41:55. > :41:59.don't know what he wants to achieve having a go at everybody. You need

:42:00. > :42:04.to give the players belief and if they haven't got the winning

:42:05. > :42:09.mentality, apart from Rooney and others, that is why he is there. Try

:42:10. > :42:15.to instill the mentality and win trophies again. That is why he gets

:42:16. > :42:20.top dollar. Do it. His agenda is the transfer market and he is

:42:21. > :42:23.campaigning to be given another ?200 million to spend. He wanted to bring

:42:24. > :42:30.in a defender and he was not able to. The slump has occurred and he is

:42:31. > :42:38.saying I don't have enough winners. So he wants more signings. On

:42:39. > :42:48.Mourinho, is it not all every where he goes there is a conspiracy theory

:42:49. > :42:51.against him. It is like he gets bored and this what shall I do, come

:42:52. > :42:57.out with an incredible statement. I'm not sure whether it is... The

:42:58. > :43:02.conspiracy theory that he says, but with, you mentioned the players

:43:03. > :43:08.don't have, I think it was the experience of winning troefives is

:43:09. > :43:12.-- troefives is how -- trophies is how he phrased it. The players have

:43:13. > :43:16.been brought to win trophies and it is up to him to help them and they

:43:17. > :43:25.have experience with Rooney and those. And Leicester, spirit's gone.

:43:26. > :43:27.What is happening? Dreadful recruitment, the tactics keep

:43:28. > :43:32.changing and the spirit has been affected and even around them is

:43:33. > :43:37.doing better and today is huge. Leicester and Manchester United,

:43:38. > :43:43.full commentary on five live this afternoon and Manchester City

:43:44. > :43:51.against swan say kicks off in half an hour. Gabby is here tonight with

:43:52. > :43:57.Match of the Day Two and it is the Super Bowl too. That is on BBC1 at

:43:58. > :44:00.11.20. From all of us, have a good one.
