:00:30. > :00:40.Hello. Good afternoon and welcome to Match of the Day 2 Extra on the BBC

:00:41. > :00:46.Two,. Joining us this afternoon, former England and Arsenal defender

:00:47. > :00:51.Martin Keogh, Shay given and the chief sports writer from the mirror.

:00:52. > :00:58.You can use this hashtag to get involved. This is what is coming

:00:59. > :01:02.up... A sixth consecutive win for Spurs who put for past Watford to

:01:03. > :01:07.keep up the pressure on Chelsea. Chelsea responded with victory at

:01:08. > :01:11.Bournemouth, Liverpool beat Stoke City, that was described as a mother

:01:12. > :01:15.by Jurgen Klopp and we will have team news from the Stadium Of Light

:01:16. > :01:22.were Sunderland play Manchester United in the lunchtime kick-off. A

:01:23. > :01:27.real mixed bag in the papers. Jose Mourinho wanting to bring method

:01:28. > :01:33.Ozil to United and as for The Mail on Sunday, they have him staying,

:01:34. > :01:37.but we must buy stars. The Sunday Telegraph, apparently Antonio Conte

:01:38. > :01:43.clubs pressure. We will talk about Chelsea shortly but let's start by

:01:44. > :01:50.talking about Spurs and Barton, for you, or are they the real deal?

:01:51. > :01:54.Without doubt. I like that core strength of players, like Eric Dyer

:01:55. > :01:57.and Dele Alli, taking ownership of their football club. Young players,

:01:58. > :02:02.there is a bit of competition between them, both of them scoring

:02:03. > :02:06.goals yesterday. They are staying in the title race. It is not easy when

:02:07. > :02:09.it is looking like Chelsea will win but they are still competitive. They

:02:10. > :02:13.are much stronger mentally and they will take it to the wire but they

:02:14. > :02:25.have to tough away games coming up against Crystal Palace and Leicester

:02:26. > :02:28.and we will see what they are made of. That will be tough. If Spurs the

:02:29. > :02:30.right place to be for a young footballer? Under the right code.

:02:31. > :02:34.This is a coach he gets a fantastic amount out of his younger players.

:02:35. > :02:36.It is the right place to be and I am sure fans are sick of people saying

:02:37. > :02:40.about keeping the players there. Keeping Dele Alli, his record now is

:02:41. > :02:46.astonishing. It is undoubtedly the right place for him to develop under

:02:47. > :02:50.the manager, develop in a side that is loving it. You see the expression

:02:51. > :02:57.they are putting into the game, they are relishing this run they arrived,

:02:58. > :03:01.but if Dele Alli is as we would all say, a player who is on the radar of

:03:02. > :03:07.Real Madrid at Manchester City and if we are saying he is a ?70 million

:03:08. > :03:11.player, he is thinking and his agent is thinking, I must be worth this

:03:12. > :03:15.amount in wages. Spurs will have that problem of keeping hold of a

:03:16. > :03:19.player and convincing him it is in his best interest to stay under

:03:20. > :03:26.Pocchettino and learn, rather than if he carries on this type of form.

:03:27. > :03:32.How good is Dele Alli? Every week he seems to go up a level, he is a

:03:33. > :03:36.fantastic player. He is so young, just starting off. The thing is,

:03:37. > :03:41.going back to whatever contract he is on, he has to be the top earning

:03:42. > :03:45.player at the club and keeping him there for the long-term future. It

:03:46. > :03:49.is all about the finances for Tottenham, they are building a new

:03:50. > :03:56.stadium, but players like Dele Alli, they have to stay at the club for

:03:57. > :03:59.the future. He looks like a really good kid and all their players, when

:04:00. > :04:02.they talk to the press, there is an intelligence about them. They are

:04:03. > :04:06.striving for excellence, their training ground is out of this

:04:07. > :04:09.world. A brand-new ground they are building, there is so much there,

:04:10. > :04:12.holding onto the manager will be just as important as holding onto

:04:13. > :04:17.this very good group of players. Chelsea, I think they are seven

:04:18. > :04:18.points better off, Tottenham, but Chelsea have raised the bar a little

:04:19. > :04:36.bit but they should not give up on that, these

:04:37. > :04:38.Tottenham players. They should be proud of what they are achieving.

:04:39. > :04:41.They do not want to just switch off and then they were leapfrogged by

:04:42. > :04:44.Arsenal. They will see the job right the way through. They are making it

:04:45. > :04:46.tight. Dele Alli has been shielded. You hear more from the other young

:04:47. > :04:50.players than you do from Dele Alli. In a way, from our point of view, we

:04:51. > :04:52.would rather he come out and speak more, but he has been shielded from

:04:53. > :04:56.the media glare as such. It is interesting. He is a very

:04:57. > :05:01.experienced kid, he played probably about 100 games for MK Dons and

:05:02. > :05:05.played a lot of games for Spurs. He does his talking on the pitch and he

:05:06. > :05:09.is doing it very well. One of the other starters is of course Eric

:05:10. > :05:13.Dier and he has been talking to Simon Brotherton. There is quite a

:05:14. > :05:17.lot of freedom in the way that you played. That is the only way for us

:05:18. > :05:21.to play, really. Playing that way, we will get the best out of

:05:22. > :05:25.ourselves and play better as a team. I think we have learned a lot from

:05:26. > :05:33.last season and hopefully we can keep going in this way. I think

:05:34. > :05:36.maybe at times last season, we got a bit too tense and worried too much

:05:37. > :05:42.and thought too much about things and I think we are just going game

:05:43. > :05:49.by game and really focusing on the games and playing our football and

:05:50. > :05:54.enjoying it. On shows like this, we often emphasise how good Christian

:05:55. > :05:58.Eriksen has been and Dele Alli but this season, Eric Dier has been

:05:59. > :06:03.magnificent, enjoying the leadership that perhaps Spurs lacked last

:06:04. > :06:06.season. Definitely, he is one of the standout candidates, Martin mention

:06:07. > :06:11.the core of the team and he is at the centre. He sits in front of the

:06:12. > :06:14.back four and he has played exceptionally well. Going back to

:06:15. > :06:15.last year, they will still be hurting from what happened last

:06:16. > :06:34.season. They got pipped, by Arsenal, there are big rivals, for

:06:35. > :06:36.the Champions League, but this year they look stronger and mentally they

:06:37. > :06:39.will be stronger because of what happened last season and they will

:06:40. > :06:42.push Chelsea all the way. The result at Bournemouth is a big win for

:06:43. > :06:44.Chelsea. They are driven by what happened last season? Eric Dier

:06:45. > :06:47.under Roy Hodgson and the England setup, he is seen as a future

:06:48. > :06:49.England captain. He is that much of a strong personality. He has had to

:06:50. > :06:54.fight for his place in the Spurs team. It is competitive. He was

:06:55. > :06:57.brought up in Portugal, playing his football there and he talks about

:06:58. > :07:00.the English football players rushing around and there is an air and a

:07:01. > :07:04.quality about him, he's calm in possession. There is something in

:07:05. > :07:08.that with their young English players that we are trying to

:07:09. > :07:13.nurture it through. He came through with Chambers and John Stones. He

:07:14. > :07:16.has been moved into midfield, we could rescue the England team by

:07:17. > :07:19.doing that, we are not blessed with many midfield players we can call

:07:20. > :07:27.upon and he is someone who is very important. I see him as being a big

:07:28. > :07:32.player there. Going off on a touch with England, it Gareth does play

:07:33. > :07:35.that system of three at the back, you need to strong players in

:07:36. > :07:39.central midfield and at the moment, we are a bit short of them and he

:07:40. > :07:43.could be one of them. When you watch birds at the moment, do you think

:07:44. > :07:46.there is an air of confidence and swagger. If you look at the goal by

:07:47. > :07:52.Dele Alli, it was fantastic, but if you rewind the tape, it comes from

:07:53. > :07:57.Hugo Lloris, under pressure from the Watford strikeforce and he rolls the

:07:58. > :07:59.ball out and they play from the back. The goal comes Rabada ten or

:08:00. > :08:03.11 passes, there is a real confidence in the side. I do not

:08:04. > :08:06.think it is rocket science. Pocchettino is the man behind that,

:08:07. > :08:11.he set up the system and how they play. Hugo Lloris probably was not

:08:12. > :08:16.much good with his feet, but he is a fantastic goalkeeper and he has

:08:17. > :08:19.improved so much in that department. Strikers close him down but he is

:08:20. > :08:25.casual on the ball in a positive way and players at the back, I know they

:08:26. > :08:28.do that, they work every week on the system, how they play, where players

:08:29. > :08:32.want to be and the build-up from the back. It is a big part of their

:08:33. > :08:36.game. We will not know about the mentality or whether Spurs have

:08:37. > :08:42.changed until Spurs actually win a trophy. If they go on to win the FA

:08:43. > :08:46.Cup, for example, if they knock over Chelsea, City and they are suddenly

:08:47. > :08:49.in a different ball game. That is mouthwatering that one. In the

:08:50. > :09:00.Premier League, you cannot do a lot about winning

:09:01. > :09:05.it, you when your game are they win their game, but it is about who is

:09:06. > :09:08.best, let us have it to the finish. That game at the end of last season,

:09:09. > :09:10.finished off Spurs league when Hazard scored a couple of goals.

:09:11. > :09:14.That game imploded, let us hope we do not see that. Let us see a fair

:09:15. > :09:16.fight in the semifinal, but I cannot wait for that game. They are the

:09:17. > :09:21.standout teams. Phil Neville was talking about the best coach team,

:09:22. > :09:25.Tottenham, maybe it is Chelsea. Antonio Conte really stitches in his

:09:26. > :09:29.information, both teams know what they need to do. There is so much

:09:30. > :09:32.riding, both teams might feel they can get a double this year. That is

:09:33. > :09:38.what we have but it looks as though Chelsea will win the league. You

:09:39. > :09:42.mentioned when Spurs beat Chelsea at White Hart Lane. There was almost a

:09:43. > :09:48.feeling they are almost measuring themselves against Chelsea and they

:09:49. > :09:52.feel that they are at their level. All you can ask them Spurs is that

:09:53. > :09:56.they will improve this season, the fact that Chelsea have gone on that

:09:57. > :09:59.remarkable run, winning so many games, Spurs can do nothing about

:10:00. > :10:05.that. They have improved and I think next Saturday, it will just... The

:10:06. > :10:12.strength their squad, I think there is a case for trippy eight being the

:10:13. > :10:19.England number two ahead of Klein. I do not see anyone playing to that

:10:20. > :10:25.level. They both can play. The manager, how he is keeping them

:10:26. > :10:30.happy. Look at the improvement he is getting out of players, looking from

:10:31. > :10:34.the outside, you wonder who has improved. Kyle Walker has improved

:10:35. > :10:42.immensely. There are not many better full-backs in Europe. It comes back

:10:43. > :10:47.to the ambition, can they keep these players in the summer, Manchester

:10:48. > :10:53.City might be looking for a right fullback. There was a story about

:10:54. > :10:56.Danny Rose and Manchester United. If you are Danny Rose, at Tottenham

:10:57. > :11:01.Hotspur, you wonder if you should go and work under Jose Mourinho, seeing

:11:02. > :11:06.how he treated Luke Shaw. It is really a no brain to stay under

:11:07. > :11:12.Pocchettino. We will come onto Jose Mourinho and Luke Shaw surely. Let

:11:13. > :11:16.us hear from Phil Neville. Pocchettino is doing a good job. I

:11:17. > :11:19.love him. They are the best coached team in the Premier League, they are

:11:20. > :11:25.a young team who keeps getting better. People talk about players

:11:26. > :11:28.leaving, they have to keep them. Best coached team in the Premier

:11:29. > :11:31.League. Can I ask you, Martin, when it comes to winning titles and

:11:32. > :11:35.trophies and you have done that with Arsenal, when you win a trophy, what

:11:36. > :11:39.does that do for the whole atmosphere of the football club and

:11:40. > :11:44.is that what Spurs need to do, get that first trophy under their belt

:11:45. > :11:46.under Pocchettino? What it does is it galvanises everyone together and

:11:47. > :11:49.you start to become much more a part of the club. That is for certain. If

:11:50. > :12:14.there is anyone with any ideas to leave, they

:12:15. > :12:17.are not thinking about that. Pretty well if you look at Arsenal last

:12:18. > :12:20.season, if they had won the league, they would not be the situation with

:12:21. > :12:23.Mesut Ozil. Suddenly the grass is greener were you are, life is good.

:12:24. > :12:26.I do not see that with Spurs. I think we can go another season or so

:12:27. > :12:28.but they do need to win a trophy pretty soon. They have the

:12:29. > :12:31.capabilities of doing it. They want to become stars and why not become

:12:32. > :12:33.legends at Tottenham? As an Arsenal fan, it has been difficult for

:12:34. > :12:36.Spurs, they are coming into something now. When you go to White

:12:37. > :12:38.Hart Lane, the fans know, they are in awe of their team and they are

:12:39. > :12:41.right behind them because they see something special every week. Do you

:12:42. > :12:43.think teams are fearing going to White Hart Lane? Definitely, the way

:12:44. > :12:47.they are playing. You know you're in for a tough game. We went there

:12:48. > :13:06.recently, 4-0 down at half-time, or Watford

:13:07. > :13:10.yesterday, it is going to be tough. That is why it is important what

:13:11. > :13:12.happens next year. Phil Neville is right about Pocchettino, he will be

:13:13. > :13:15.in demand and there is no question of him leaving at the moment but we

:13:16. > :13:22.-- when we had that lunch with Fergie, I knew bumped into Barcelona

:13:23. > :13:28.President is, as you do! There was a great code from Pocchettino, who

:13:29. > :13:31.said that these things happen! Let's talk about the papers and Antonio

:13:32. > :13:34.Conte because he seems to be enjoying the challenge presented by

:13:35. > :13:38.Spurs and this is the quote from the newspaper, I love the pressure, I

:13:39. > :13:43.live off the pressure, I don't see pressure, I put pressure on. Five

:13:44. > :13:49.times he has used pressure. I think we know that. Where we sit at

:13:50. > :13:55.Stamford Bridge, we sit directly behind the Chelsea dugout and the

:13:56. > :13:59.pressure he puts on himself, it is incredible. I sometimes wonder how a

:14:00. > :14:04.coach can be that intense for long periods of time in his career. It is

:14:05. > :14:08.incredible. You see players that were angry on the pitch, got into

:14:09. > :14:12.much mode and I think he feels that is what he has to do. He was a

:14:13. > :14:16.serial winner at Juventus, the winter season unbeaten mare, last

:14:17. > :14:20.season, he is capable of big things and he believes that if I do not

:14:21. > :14:24.keep beating that drum on the side of the pitch, then the team will not

:14:25. > :14:30.perform. He gets his players up for it. I have seen him pick up his

:14:31. > :14:40.assistant by the lapels and lead him down the line to say something. He

:14:41. > :14:44.has got incredible enthusiasm. He feels pressure because there is

:14:45. > :14:49.pressure to perform at Chelsea, pressure to win a title. I am sure

:14:50. > :14:54.he is desperate to do that in the way that Carlo Ancelotti did as

:14:55. > :14:59.well. People often forget as well, you talked about Juventus, he has

:15:00. > :15:03.also coached Italy as well, in big games and Martin and I were in

:15:04. > :15:07.Bordeaux for the Italy and Germany game and we were at the side of the

:15:08. > :15:12.pitch and we were talking about the energy that he puts into again

:15:13. > :15:15.himself just been on the touchline. Fascinating. And he came at the

:15:16. > :15:18.start of the season he was not playing three at the back. I do not

:15:19. > :15:23.think he understands four at the back at all but he went with it and

:15:24. > :15:26.he has imposed his beliefs on the team. Kante, they say football is a

:15:27. > :15:31.numbers game, but he just changes the numbers because he offers

:15:32. > :15:35.himself in wide positions, back of the defence, forward positions, they

:15:36. > :15:41.always have that extra player on the pitch and he now complete to

:15:42. > :15:46.midfield players. He likes that two in front and then he can have Hazard

:15:47. > :15:51.and Pedro, that extra inventiveness at the top of the team. Phil is

:15:52. > :15:55.talking about Pocchettino as being the best coach, I do not think

:15:56. > :15:58.Chelsea are behind that and you would have to look at Jose Mourinho

:15:59. > :16:02.who is always well drilled. We have some excellent managers and that is

:16:03. > :16:04.why we are seeing really good coaching and good information and it

:16:05. > :16:08.is the coaches who get that message across the quickest he will win

:16:09. > :16:13.something. I think Pep Guardiola at the top of all of this, he is an

:16:14. > :16:20.artist and I see him next season as conquering all of this.

:16:21. > :16:30.There are coaches but you need talented coaches. He will be

:16:31. > :16:34.thinking not long ago I was supposed to be the best manager in the world,

:16:35. > :16:37.why are they not talking about me but I'm sure he will get the

:16:38. > :16:42.investment to go again and Manchester City will be pushing for

:16:43. > :16:49.the final. I will say this about Antonio Conte and his coaching, you

:16:50. > :16:52.are right that you have to have the personnel but would we have

:16:53. > :16:59.envisaged Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses playing such key roles as the

:17:00. > :17:03.wingbacks? You would not have said, you've got the personnel, I would

:17:04. > :17:07.not have had those two down as key factors in Chelsea's season. That's

:17:08. > :17:11.because we could not have believed those two could have done it, Alonso

:17:12. > :17:15.gave a brilliant free kick yesterday, totally underestimated.

:17:16. > :17:18.You never saw him as a full-back but they will come all the way back and

:17:19. > :17:23.they are in a five and that they have the two in front so how would

:17:24. > :17:26.you break them down? They know their roles and responsibility. That's the

:17:27. > :17:32.coach. Let's look at some of the papers. I don't know what this is

:17:33. > :17:37.doing here! Andy Dunn, apparently Britain's best columnist, according

:17:38. > :17:43.to the Minna! An interesting piece, Joe is say hello to a new striker

:17:44. > :17:54.and goodbye to Ibrahimovic- Jose must say hello. Has Ibra had his

:17:55. > :17:59.time at Manchester United? He said he didn't know if he was going to

:18:00. > :18:05.stay, my point of view is that he has been outstanding this season.

:18:06. > :18:09.Had he not made that elbow attack I think he might have been my

:18:10. > :18:14.Footballer of the Year. However he will be 36 and October. If he stays

:18:15. > :18:21.another year he must play. You can't imagine Zlatan saying that he will

:18:22. > :18:25.stay with no guarantee of playing. And then you've got to fit Zlatan in

:18:26. > :18:29.with the other strikers. And that's the younger players, Rashford,

:18:30. > :18:32.Martial, they will go down the pecking order and I don't think he's

:18:33. > :18:38.the future of Manchester United. He's been fantastic this season but

:18:39. > :18:44.going forward, long-term, then he is not the future. To get a relatively

:18:45. > :18:49.young striker in, a top striker like Griezmann and then integrate other

:18:50. > :18:54.players in... Martin, would it be a mistake for Ibra to stay another

:18:55. > :18:57.year? They may win the Europa League and he had a massive hand in that.

:18:58. > :19:04.If he stays another year, perhaps the legend will not be as strong...

:19:05. > :19:09.He has won 11 trophies in 13 seasons. He is a true champion.

:19:10. > :19:14.Today he's talking about us and them. He is still a player, not a

:19:15. > :19:22.coach, and his will have to stay if Dashti change if he stays. He will

:19:23. > :19:27.become Wayne Rooney's, next's Wayne Rooney. Rashford will need to be

:19:28. > :19:30.managed, an interesting young teenager scoring for Mourinho.

:19:31. > :19:37.Mourinho does not necessarily want to work with teenagers. Ibrahimovic

:19:38. > :19:41.is outstanding that he is 36. When you look at the bench, back in the

:19:42. > :19:46.date it was Dwight Yorke and Teddy Sheringham. They need strikers. They

:19:47. > :19:52.are not scaring anyone. That's all gone now. They need to get that

:19:53. > :19:58.back. They need a dearth of strikers. Manchester United need to

:19:59. > :20:06.buy strikers but protect Rashford. And the back page of the Sun, they

:20:07. > :20:10.have leapt it out anyway, Ibra says Jose has every right to blast flops.

:20:11. > :20:16.Martin just said Jose doesn't want to work with teenagers. Ibrahimovic

:20:17. > :20:20.knows what Jose is like, you worked with him at Inter Milan. He knows

:20:21. > :20:27.his style. Does he have a point that United are overachieving? I don't

:20:28. > :20:32.know about overachieving but I think Zlatan can take criticism to his

:20:33. > :20:36.face but there are players like Luke Shaw who this week has come in for a

:20:37. > :20:40.lot of criticism and I think he should say it in the changing room

:20:41. > :20:47.to his face and keep it out of the press. Back him. Don't do it in

:20:48. > :20:53.public. Those players go home to their families. For me, as a

:20:54. > :20:57.manager, if you want to get the best out of a player, saying it to his

:20:58. > :21:03.face and then protecting him on the outside I think is the way forward.

:21:04. > :21:07.How this go in the dressing room? Zlatan has played every Premier

:21:08. > :21:13.League minute he's been available under Jose. He doesn't get

:21:14. > :21:17.substituted. And then he calls out other players publicly, and

:21:18. > :21:24.Ibrahimovic says he has every right to blast the flops. Reading between

:21:25. > :21:29.the lines... Separating himself from the other players a bit? That is and

:21:30. > :21:33.what they want. It would be better if both the manager and the top

:21:34. > :21:37.players said, we are equally to blame in some way. They are now

:21:38. > :21:42.pushing the blame onto the youngsters. How about believing in

:21:43. > :21:46.Luke Shaw and trusting him? How about saying, he came off the bench

:21:47. > :21:50.and it was his strike that led to the penalty at the end of the game

:21:51. > :21:54.against Everton. Instead the manager lays claim to his success by saying

:21:55. > :22:04.that every move he made was because of Jose shouting at him on the

:22:05. > :22:06.sidelines. That is not good management. Let the player grow. He

:22:07. > :22:10.is an outstanding talent. I think sometimes Mourinho says too much.

:22:11. > :22:14.You should have a member of staff who cut him short! Five and a half

:22:15. > :22:19.minutes, his interview after the Everton game. He did this at

:22:20. > :22:23.Chelsea. He needs more control. He should apologise sometimes what he

:22:24. > :22:29.says to the players. Briefly that was bizarre. At the same time Jose

:22:30. > :22:33.was in the press Conference saying how he was orchestrating what Luke

:22:34. > :22:39.Shaw did, saying he was the brains, the same time Luke Shaw was giving

:22:40. > :22:44.interview elsewhere, not knowing what his manager was saying. It's a

:22:45. > :22:49.really difficult situation. Batstone our attention to today. It's a

:22:50. > :22:53.massive game for Sunderland. They played Manchester United, Ian Brown

:22:54. > :23:00.has the team is. Sunderland ten points adrift of safety myth David

:23:01. > :23:05.Moyes has minimal scope for change even though he has Victor Anichebe

:23:06. > :23:10.upfront, Borini drops out and Pienaar is on the bench after his

:23:11. > :23:14.problems. Manchester United, a lot to do just, five alterations from

:23:15. > :23:20.the Everton game. You talked about Luke Shaw, he starts today, Paul

:23:21. > :23:28.Pogba returns and Mkhitaryan, plus Romero in goal and Darmian at right

:23:29. > :23:36.back. Those making we are de Gea, Young, Rashford, Zlatan is in and

:23:37. > :23:41.the captain as Marouane Fellaini. Thank you, updates from Ian and

:23:42. > :23:46.Steve throughout the afternoon on radio five Life. Your reaction to de

:23:47. > :23:52.Gea missing out for Manchester United? Five changes and Marouane

:23:53. > :23:54.Fellaini the captain. Marouane Fellaini as captain is strange, some

:23:55. > :23:59.of the fans don't think you should be at the club and now he's captain.

:24:00. > :24:03.And de Gea is one of the best keepers in the world, he has done

:24:04. > :24:09.very well, Romero, though, so I think they will be OK in that

:24:10. > :24:14.department, Sunderland struggling to score. Presumably Luke Shaw will

:24:15. > :24:21.start with Mourinho running along the touchline! Get back here!

:24:22. > :24:25.Interesting that they are making the changes because clearly you are

:24:26. > :24:31.coming to the stage where they've got the Europa League game, they are

:24:32. > :24:37.away at Anderlecht on Thursday, it is one of those, I think, he doesn't

:24:38. > :24:41.say, I will prioritise the Europa League, he just says, we are going

:24:42. > :24:45.for everything but at the back of his mind he probably just has one

:24:46. > :24:52.eye on his Europa League... Will they win the Europa League? It's got

:24:53. > :24:56.to be their best bet. The fixtures are difficult between the end of the

:24:57. > :25:01.season and now, they play Chelsea, City, Spurs, I can't see them

:25:02. > :25:05.finishing... You wouldn't want to put all your eggs in one basket

:25:06. > :25:09.because anything could happen in the final. He does love winning

:25:10. > :25:14.trophies. If he wins the Europa League that's a very good season for

:25:15. > :25:18.Manchester United. Very good. People look at their league position but to

:25:19. > :25:22.win two trophies in one season when there are four or five trophies to

:25:23. > :25:28.play for would be a big success for Mourinho. I think pressure has been

:25:29. > :25:32.put on him by David Moyes in the paper today saying that they need to

:25:33. > :25:37.win trophies. I think that Manchester United will go all out to

:25:38. > :25:42.win today. Let's hear from Jordan Pickford about Sunderland. He's been

:25:43. > :25:48.talking to Football Focus. Eight games without a win, we've got a

:25:49. > :25:52.tough test coming up and as a Sunderland glad it's not ideal,

:25:53. > :25:58.knowing the vibe in the area, that is down to us players and staff, to

:25:59. > :26:04.put things right on the pitch on game day. We need to work as best we

:26:05. > :26:11.can to get those three points. Three years ago I think we were eight

:26:12. > :26:16.points adrift and we needed a miracle is why can't we do it now?

:26:17. > :26:26.Jordan Pickford. I asked you how good Eric Dier and Dele Alli is,

:26:27. > :26:33.Shay, but Manchester United, if they lost de Gea would they go for Jordan

:26:34. > :26:38.Pickford? He's a good keeper. He's 23, he's played all season in

:26:39. > :26:42.Premier League, when he was at Preston they spoke very highly of

:26:43. > :26:45.their keeper, now he has the decision to make because it looks

:26:46. > :26:49.like Sunderland will get relegated, don't beat around the bush. He will

:26:50. > :26:53.probably be one of the main players they could sell in the summer. By

:26:54. > :26:57.all accounts they might want the money for him. As a player, he's a

:26:58. > :27:00.Sunderland boy, maybe he will want to stay in the Championship and get

:27:01. > :27:05.them back in the Premier League. He doesn't want to go to Chelsea, man

:27:06. > :27:09.city or Manchester United answered on the bench. He's had a taste of

:27:10. > :27:20.first-team football and he doesn't want to go back to doing that -- he

:27:21. > :27:22.doesn't want to to Chelsea, Manchester City or Manchester United

:27:23. > :27:25.and simply sit on the bench. I think they will take the decision out of

:27:26. > :27:28.his hands. They want the money. Somebody said that in January they

:27:29. > :27:31.might try to sell him but he was injured so they couldn't sell him. I

:27:32. > :27:37.just wouldn't like him to go to a big club and not play. He's still

:27:38. > :27:41.young as a keeper. I think that's the issue, he's getting game time,

:27:42. > :27:49.he's very young for a goalkeeper. I don't think there's any rush. He

:27:50. > :27:55.gets so much action, doesn't he? He is making so many saves. And when

:27:56. > :28:01.you are at a good club you are only making one or two saves the match.

:28:02. > :28:04.Perhaps it is lucky that Joe Hart did not go there in the summer

:28:05. > :28:09.because this lad has had an opportunity to play. Andy, what is

:28:10. > :28:14.your view on David Moyes, under pressure for many reasons. I am a

:28:15. > :28:27.little bit surprised, basically that the club did not take more action

:28:28. > :28:30.for the incident... The interview with Vicki Sparks. I am surprised

:28:31. > :28:34.they did not take stock action about that. And in terms of the way that

:28:35. > :28:41.the season has gone, I look at him and I don't think he has transformed

:28:42. > :28:46.them in any way shape or form, apart from the first goals which have now

:28:47. > :28:49.dried up. Basically it's been a huge disappointment for him, this season.

:28:50. > :28:53.I think that by the sound of it he will be given the chance to bring

:28:54. > :28:57.them back up because they are going down. It has been coming. If you

:28:58. > :29:02.look at Aston Villa, for many years near the bottom of the table,

:29:03. > :29:06.Sunderland hanging on, Sam Allardyce getting them out of trouble,

:29:07. > :29:11.somehow, it has almost been inevitable, sitting there with 20

:29:12. > :29:15.points, it is almost pitiful. And the finances as well, I don't know

:29:16. > :29:19.how much money they've got to bring in new players, I don't know if they

:29:20. > :29:27.will promise in a certain amount and then pull the rug from under his

:29:28. > :29:32.feet. And to sell them to one of their rivals seems to be quite the

:29:33. > :29:37.wrong message. A look at the back page of the Sunday Muhuddin Mire.

:29:38. > :29:45.Mesut Ozil on his way to Manchester United, says the paper. - the Sunday

:29:46. > :29:57.Mirror. I am sure that Jose would like him. He's not a Jose type of

:29:58. > :30:03.player but I talked to Jose and he said that he used to watch training,

:30:04. > :30:06.and Jose would turn his back on Real Madrid training, and you're the

:30:07. > :30:10.kerfuffle going on behind but whenever Mesut Ozil was on the ball

:30:11. > :30:16.it made a different sound. Like a golfer when he hits a pure shot.

:30:17. > :30:20.Whether Jose might be saying this for effect, he claimed that he could

:30:21. > :30:24.listen and he knew when Maslow 's and was kicking. And he loves him,

:30:25. > :30:28.he thinks he is great. He looked great when Jose rejoined Chelsea, he

:30:29. > :30:37.didn't think that Mesut Ozil would be suitable for the type of game he

:30:38. > :30:40.wanted to play. The type with everyone pressing, working as hard

:30:41. > :30:47.without the ball as they do with the ball. But now with the United set up

:30:48. > :30:53.I think he could. Mourinho called him a cry as well. That is in his

:30:54. > :30:57.book, he says, at half-time, you've got to go and prove me wrong, and he

:30:58. > :31:04.didn't come he stayed in the dressing room. But Jose did write

:31:05. > :31:07.the foreword for his autobiography. Speaking of books, the Mail on

:31:08. > :31:14.Sunday have an interview with Mesut Ozil. This is Rob Draper. They've

:31:15. > :31:20.obviously got the rights to serialise his new book, Gunning For

:31:21. > :31:24.Greatness. He says, I get criticism but I don't care, and success on the

:31:25. > :31:25.pitch. Do you understand why so many fans get frustrated that he drifts

:31:26. > :31:38.in and out of matches? Without doubt. David Rocastle ticked

:31:39. > :31:42.and off a lot of boxes, he was a physical player and technically

:31:43. > :31:47.gifted. This fellow has one of those but not both. He leaves the Arsenal

:31:48. > :31:51.fans frustrated. Manchester City, he was running through on goal and he

:31:52. > :31:55.was favourite and suddenly he was not favourite, it took like he was

:31:56. > :31:58.running away from the ball. There are body language issues, you he is

:31:59. > :32:03.a success story, but when you're in a team that is not having a good

:32:04. > :32:06.time, you have to work hard. Dennis Bergkamp for me have the complete

:32:07. > :32:09.package, he was a better player only because he worked hard out of

:32:10. > :32:13.possession. They are both brilliant in possession but you have to do

:32:14. > :32:15.both. Arsenal cannot carry someone and they are looking to the top

:32:16. > :32:33.player to get them out of trouble. He has been ill

:32:34. > :32:35.or not available or not ready for selection and that has left a huge

:32:36. > :32:38.question mark. If he stays, everything has to be rosy in his

:32:39. > :32:41.garden for him to play well and that is not the case at the moment. He

:32:42. > :32:44.does not give many interviews, but there is a book coming out and you

:32:45. > :32:46.can understand why he is doing this. He says he has a connection with

:32:47. > :32:49.Arsenal, I love London, but I cannot say what will happen in the future.

:32:50. > :32:52.In the summer we will talk. What does that mean? When you listen to

:32:53. > :33:03.that, do you think he likes living in London, but... Chelsea are in

:33:04. > :33:06.London as well of course. And Spurs. Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are the main

:33:07. > :33:10.players at Arsenal and neither of them have signed a main contract. It

:33:11. > :33:14.is not a money issue, I don't think they're holding out for money, I

:33:15. > :33:18.think it is more the ambition of the club, what is happening with Arsene

:33:19. > :33:21.Wenger, highly going to invest in the squad in the summer and these

:33:22. > :33:25.two could play in any top European team and that is the big question

:33:26. > :33:30.mark. It is quite a revealing interview and also shifting it onto

:33:31. > :33:34.Arsene Wenger, unequivocal support for Mesut Ozil today. It would be,

:33:35. > :33:40.because he has had that support from Arsene Wenger. When he has had bad

:33:41. > :33:44.games and certainly in big games he has had bad games, so I am not

:33:45. > :33:47.surprised he has the support of the manager because he never criticises

:33:48. > :33:52.players publicly in the way that Jose Mourinho might do and also, he

:33:53. > :33:58.allows Mesut Ozil his freedom to express himself. Arsene Wenger is

:33:59. > :34:05.happy for him to do what he does. He does not want his artist painting

:34:06. > :34:08.fences. He will, I am afraid, but he will not say publicly. That is the

:34:09. > :34:13.difference between him and Jose Mourinho. He only says, he talks

:34:14. > :34:17.about the good things that people do, but not the things they cannot

:34:18. > :34:22.do. I does feel there are question marks. He has been ill, mystery

:34:23. > :34:27.illnesses, hamstring injuries, at least Sanchez has come out and said

:34:28. > :34:30.something. He has got a bit of balls about him, he has become an angry

:34:31. > :34:34.man and difficult to work with but he is showing passion. They beat

:34:35. > :34:37.West Ham, they have a difficult game on Monday night against Crystal

:34:38. > :34:54.Palace but Arsenal are still in there with a shout and they can

:34:55. > :34:57.turn around their season. If they finish in the top four, it is

:34:58. > :35:00.certain that Arsene Wenger will stay. I think these guys contract

:35:01. > :35:03.will run out and Arsenal will say, you will have to stay here for

:35:04. > :35:05.another season. They are key to the success of Arsenal. Let's talk about

:35:06. > :35:07.Liverpool, masterstroke by Jurgen Klopp at half-time yesterday? When

:35:08. > :35:10.they saw the team sheet, we talked about it, young lads upfront, we

:35:11. > :35:13.thought it was a good chance to beat Liverpool today and we did play well

:35:14. > :35:15.in the first half, maybe had a couple more chances we could have

:35:16. > :35:19.taken. At half-time, Firmino and Catania came on and they definitely

:35:20. > :35:23.changed the game. They both scored as well and you all the goals last

:35:24. > :35:29.night, both fantastic finishes, but at the same time, as the goalkeeper

:35:30. > :35:33.I will stick up for Simon Mignolet. He made two great saves and on

:35:34. > :35:42.another day we could have four the game 3-2. They concede Jurgen Klopp

:35:43. > :35:45.probably running to him now, to hug him, because especially the second

:35:46. > :35:51.save was one of the saves of the season. We watch the game in the

:35:52. > :35:55.studio, he was not laughing at half-time. He is the manager that we

:35:56. > :36:01.look at and would love to play for him. He looks great, he is enjoying

:36:02. > :36:05.every moment of every player's career. I love his interviews

:36:06. > :36:09.afterwards. That was massive for them to get back and win that match.

:36:10. > :36:12.It really would have opened the door for Arsenal to get back in. We are

:36:13. > :36:17.just showing pictures of those wonderful scenes at the end were

:36:18. > :36:20.Jurgen Klopp ran onto the pitch. We were scratching our heads when they

:36:21. > :36:24.saw that Ben Woodburn was starting as well. Is that because Coutinho

:36:25. > :36:30.had only passed a fitness test to get onto the bench. Presumably so,

:36:31. > :36:34.because Coutinho came back one month ago hands has been, started to come

:36:35. > :36:40.into form but were struggling to recapture his form. Maybe that was

:36:41. > :36:43.an element to do with that. I don't understand it otherwise, because

:36:44. > :36:47.they have no more commitments, they have just got to get the best they

:36:48. > :36:54.can out of the remaining fixtures. I am not entirely sure... It worked

:36:55. > :37:00.and they were IMPAC players. As a defender, where they see players

:37:01. > :37:04.like back coming off the bench at half-time, it is like, let's have

:37:05. > :37:07.it. I see them coming off the bench and it is like, the game can change

:37:08. > :37:13.and they have turned it around for them. Imagine that he looked at you

:37:14. > :37:21.and said, OK, let's have it! Imagine. What about Stoke City? Is

:37:22. > :37:26.it a case of the season petering out? Definitely not, we have had a

:37:27. > :37:31.bad run of recent form. We have wanted to finish in the top half, we

:37:32. > :37:37.have had four defeats in a row and that is not good enough from ours.

:37:38. > :37:41.On another day, yesterday, we would have at least got a draw out of the

:37:42. > :37:45.game or perhaps won. Little things are not going right for us. Next

:37:46. > :37:49.Saturday we have whole city at home and it is a huge game for us. We

:37:50. > :37:53.really need a victory. We vowed not to mention the corner from Charlie

:37:54. > :37:57.Adams, because ultimately it was a free kick. If you were watching

:37:58. > :38:03.midway, has he recovered? Mark Hughes or the funny side. He must

:38:04. > :38:09.have got a lot of stick. He hands it out. To be fair. If there is one

:38:10. > :38:15.player I can imagine giving out stick, it is him. It was a free for

:38:16. > :38:21.us to give him abuse the next day. What do think is happening at Stoke

:38:22. > :38:25.City? They have had a good season, mid-table, players are just starting

:38:26. > :38:30.to take their foot from the gas. I think there is an element of that

:38:31. > :38:33.with all clubs. When we decide, everyone says how important it is to

:38:34. > :38:38.stay in the Premier League and when teams become safe and are not going

:38:39. > :38:42.to threaten, we have now got a big sex, I think in the past, we could

:38:43. > :38:49.have said every year it is a big three or a big four but now it is a

:38:50. > :38:52.big six, so the need them, there is that wedge of teams in the middle

:38:53. > :38:57.and once you are safe, I can understand it mentally, you do take

:38:58. > :39:03.your eye from the ball. West Brom are feeling the same. Exactly, they

:39:04. > :39:08.are in a familiar position, so maybe, it is that. I am not sure.

:39:09. > :39:13.Maybe Mark Hughes at the moment... Treading water is the wrong word,

:39:14. > :39:20.but every season trying to better ninth position or get higher than

:39:21. > :39:25.ninth position. 36 points. I think they are. If they are not, then half

:39:26. > :39:28.the table is in trouble. It is so close right in the middle of the

:39:29. > :39:32.league, if we can get a couple of victories together, then I think we

:39:33. > :39:36.are up to ninth place, eighth place or ninth place. It is so close in

:39:37. > :39:42.that middle half and can change quickly. The running, the remaining

:39:43. > :39:47.games for Stoke, but they are not overly difficult. Only one out of

:39:48. > :39:52.the top six left. I think teams in that area have to be stronger

:39:53. > :39:55.somehow. They have to go through periods of losing game after game

:39:56. > :39:58.after game and then suddenly turn it around and feel comfortable and

:39:59. > :40:09.happy with the season. Let's talk about Manchester City, you were

:40:10. > :40:13.there, they beat Hull. Our certain individuals playing for their

:40:14. > :40:19.futures? 100%. No doubt about that. It is like the headmaster is out

:40:20. > :40:24.there, Pep Guardiola is magnificent. He has seen the players who came

:40:25. > :40:29.off, the ones he is happy with, you will be here next season. He is very

:40:30. > :40:32.demanding. They were 2-0 up, he was screaming instructions, he wants the

:40:33. > :40:37.back four up and wants them to pay the complete game, I think the

:40:38. > :40:45.second goal, I think it was a record number of passes. Every player in

:40:46. > :40:48.the team had a touch. Incredible. It was a perfect gold from the point of

:40:49. > :40:54.view of the manager but I feel the goalkeeper needs to be changed for

:40:55. > :41:00.next season. You cannot go with him. It was not the greatest finishes. I

:41:01. > :41:02.know John Stone should come to the ball, but the goalkeeper should have

:41:03. > :41:06.saved it. There is lots of surgery to be done to that team but have

:41:07. > :41:14.some outstanding talent, the likes of sterling and Sergio Aguero and

:41:15. > :41:17.Sane. Yaya Toure is a mystery, I still feel he has something to offer

:41:18. > :41:22.and there might be a club going after him, and I wonder if Arsenal

:41:23. > :41:27.would go after him if he becomes available. Tax coming in about Kyle

:41:28. > :41:34.Neill Bravo. Surely Pep Guardiola understands that the goalkeeper as

:41:35. > :41:41.to stop the ball coming in rather than have good feet. Morton was at

:41:42. > :41:47.the game. I was not there, but Claudio Bravo is fantastic with his

:41:48. > :41:51.feet. Is he though? I don't know how good he is. The manager says he is.

:41:52. > :41:58.He has conceded seven goals from the past seven shots. Can you stop the

:41:59. > :42:02.ball going that way? And he has struggled in the last number of

:42:03. > :42:07.games. You save the amount of shots he has conceded and the amount of

:42:08. > :42:09.goals, it is simply not good enough. I think that department will

:42:10. > :42:15.definitely be lived at in the summer. There is definitely a boy

:42:16. > :42:21.there a goalkeeper. You were talking earlier about how Hugo Lloris has

:42:22. > :42:27.developed his skills, is that becoming more and more apparent. He

:42:28. > :42:33.makes great saves. Yes, he does. Bravo does not. Hugo Lloris was a

:42:34. > :42:37.great goalkeeper but now he has gone the next up with his feet. If you're

:42:38. > :42:41.playing for Pep Guardiola, you have to be good with your feet but you

:42:42. > :42:48.have to make great saves. Could Joe Hart not have done this, developed

:42:49. > :42:53.really well in this position? Whatever Pep Guardiola sees does not

:42:54. > :42:57.see in Jill Hart... It had to be the Euros. He just did not want him at

:42:58. > :43:00.the club, it did not give him a chance or an opportunity and reading

:43:01. > :43:06.the papers the last couple of days, is that one of his biggest mistakes,

:43:07. > :43:09.not keeping Joe Hart? Just a quick word on that massive three points

:43:10. > :43:14.yesterday for West Ham and Slaven Bilic. Huge pressure. You can see

:43:15. > :43:17.that pressure building up, huge three points for the owners as well

:43:18. > :43:22.because they were getting to the situation where they had to come out

:43:23. > :43:27.and back the manager and it did not look great. The vibes from Slaven

:43:28. > :43:32.Bilic are not great. Amazing, three points and we are saying they're OK.

:43:33. > :43:36.Swansea City in deep trouble. Yes. They had a really good period and

:43:37. > :43:41.now they have struggled in the last five or six games. Yesterday, their

:43:42. > :43:45.confidence looks pretty low as well. I saw them a few weeks ago and they

:43:46. > :43:52.had a problem at right back. Tactically, and he could not cope.

:43:53. > :43:55.Good to see you. Everton against Leicester City live on BBC Radio

:43:56. > :44:01.five live, Marden and I back with much of the day to later because

:44:02. > :44:04.Mark Chapman is at the Masters. Have a great day. Goodbye.
