:00:24. > :00:27.Welcome to Match of the Day 2 Extra on BBC Two, Radio 5 Live

:00:28. > :00:39.With me this afternoon, Premier League winner

:00:40. > :00:43.Mark Schwarzer, West Ham midfielder Michail Antonio and Jason Burt,

:00:44. > :00:47.who is The Telegraph's chief football correspondent.

:00:48. > :00:52.Get in touch using the hash tag #bbcfootball on social media

:00:53. > :01:03.Here are some other subjects we will discuss over the next 45 minutes.

:01:04. > :01:09.Chelsea 's title defence started with a shock as they were beaten at

:01:10. > :01:12.home by Burnley and Sam Vokes will hopefully join as a little later on.

:01:13. > :01:14.Huddersfield have a dream start to life in the Premier League with a

:01:15. > :01:17.3-0 win at Crystal Palace. Newcastle's return to the top

:01:18. > :01:19.flight begins at home. We will be at St

:01:20. > :01:22.James' Park shortly. And we will also look ahead

:01:23. > :01:24.to today's four o'clock kick-off with Manchester United playing

:01:25. > :01:27.Michail's West Ham. Antonio Conte appears

:01:28. > :01:30.on nearly all the back pages. The Sun - "Blue Lost Plot"

:01:31. > :01:49.with Antonio Conte accusing his I'm laughing at the ridiculous

:01:50. > :01:50.nature that Antonio Conte is the bookmakers favourite to be the first

:01:51. > :01:59.managerial casualty of the season. Antonio Conte target signings

:02:00. > :02:02.after Chelsea's disastrous start. Danny Drinkwater and Virgil van Dijk

:02:03. > :02:10.are two of the players named. Michail, you're not at Old Trafford

:02:11. > :02:16.because you are not quite fit, but your not far from 100%. Yes, I'm not

:02:17. > :02:21.far. I trained with the first team this week. I managed to play on

:02:22. > :02:26.Friday. So I should be available for selection mixed week if I am

:02:27. > :02:30.selected. You just said to us you asked to play for the under 23s

:02:31. > :02:34.because there is a difference between feeling fit and finding out

:02:35. > :02:39.whether you are match fit, so explain that a little bit. Yeah,

:02:40. > :02:41.definitely, like, you can run all you like in pre-season but the

:02:42. > :02:46.preseason games is where you really learn the fitness of changing

:02:47. > :02:51.direction, sprinting, because the way I play, I run the ball for 60

:02:52. > :02:57.yards and can rest for three minutes and get the ball back and go running

:02:58. > :03:03.again, so it's not practical. I can't planet. It's just reaction

:03:04. > :03:07.type of thing. I possibly could have tried to be in this weekend but

:03:08. > :03:11.being able to play an actual game, and no mentally myself to be

:03:12. > :03:20.selected for next week, if I am selected, that I could play and

:03:21. > :03:25.start. -- plan it. This amuses me slightly a Simon Hughes not an

:03:26. > :03:31.athlete, you may find that hard to believe, having a little giggle to

:03:32. > :03:35.yourself, you are at Saint April. Is that the summer getting back to

:03:36. > :03:40.fitness to such an extent you took your physio on your stag do with

:03:41. > :03:45.you? Did that work? Yes, I am back on time.

:03:46. > :03:53.LAUGHTER During the summer, obviously, I did

:03:54. > :04:01.my hamstring. I had to get myself prepared for the summer. I just had

:04:02. > :04:06.to keep working. During this time, obviously going to get married. I've

:04:07. > :04:12.had to go to Vegas. Fraser is a very lucky man to come to Vegas. All paid

:04:13. > :04:20.for. He did sessions with you out there? Literally, every morning...

:04:21. > :04:26.What type of sessions? Not a drinking sessions. I've had to make

:04:27. > :04:33.some sacrifices. He managed to get me to do that. He got a nice holiday

:04:34. > :04:41.to Vegas. Yeah, so, he was out there. He got me back on time, maybe

:04:42. > :04:49.earlier. Widget taken a physio on your stag do? Only if he had good

:04:50. > :04:55.banter. He was part of the boys. I liked him. We had a little squad and

:04:56. > :05:00.he was leading the squad. He should have stayed. Let's move on to talk

:05:01. > :05:05.about the actual football from the opening Premier League weekend. We

:05:06. > :05:10.will come on to Old Trafford, West Ham, later on. I did laugh at the

:05:11. > :05:15.Mail on Sunday's back page headline and the bookies having Antonio Conte

:05:16. > :05:19.to be favourite to be the first manager to lose his job. Can you

:05:20. > :05:25.understand why he is the favourite? Yes, I can. It does seem crazy,

:05:26. > :05:29.incredible, one defeat and suddenly he's the favourite to lose his job,

:05:30. > :05:36.but this is a hangover from the last season, he was not happy. He toured

:05:37. > :05:41.with inter-Milan, substantial, and fathers on the table and he could've

:05:42. > :05:45.gone. He signed a new contract on better terms but not an extended

:05:46. > :05:56.deal. Without the ongoing problems with transfers. And also Diego

:05:57. > :06:02.Costa. I think it has hurt him. Living out of the squad, in January,

:06:03. > :06:06.keeping him until they won the league. I think that text message he

:06:07. > :06:10.sent has damaged his standing at the club because I have a player there

:06:11. > :06:16.who is a devalued asset, he wrote have the money they thought they

:06:17. > :06:21.would get for him. He hasn't got the players he wanted in the transfer

:06:22. > :06:31.window, but on the bench yesterday, the board players. They have players

:06:32. > :06:34.who have not been fit. Two or three players coming in. May simply does

:06:35. > :06:38.not lie with him. I've had my fallouts with Chelsea over the

:06:39. > :06:42.years. A number of managerial changes. I think this is more about

:06:43. > :06:47.him and his behaviour rather than the club. I agree with Jason. The

:06:48. > :06:52.rumblings throughout the summer is now coming to affect, and it's

:06:53. > :06:56.affecting Antonio Conte, the way he's responding and reacting,

:06:57. > :07:00.politically after the game when he is saying the players lost the plot.

:07:01. > :07:05.Normally a manager who has the full support of his team, would not come

:07:06. > :07:09.out and defend his players. In this instance, he hasn't. It seems like

:07:10. > :07:17.it's a very unhappy camper the moment. I thought was very

:07:18. > :07:25.confusing. He came on and change the game, Morata. Him on the bench was

:07:26. > :07:33.quite strange. Obviously, Lukaku was his first choice. But Morata was not

:07:34. > :07:39.foisted upon him. Be for the Lukaku tour, he was talking about Morata

:07:40. > :07:47.into Chelsea. They've done a good deal. He didn't play him in

:07:48. > :07:53.pre-season either. I think he is his man. Our understanding was that this

:07:54. > :07:57.was a player who went to Juventus. Obviously he's not a player who's

:07:58. > :08:01.been foisted upon him. To be fair, Chelsea are not foisting players

:08:02. > :08:10.upon him. It's not with possible to get the players you want. Everybody

:08:11. > :08:16.talks about Bennuci, not wanting to leave Italy. They talk about him not

:08:17. > :08:20.wanting Matic to go but he didn't want to go to Manchester United.

:08:21. > :08:27.That the difference. When you talk the text message damaging him,

:08:28. > :08:32.telling a player is not wanted, are you saying it's damaged him within

:08:33. > :08:37.Chelsea? Within the hierarchy. Yes, within the club. I think he handled

:08:38. > :08:41.it very well initially. They won the game at Leicester, went on to win

:08:42. > :08:45.the league, it he got Diego Costa back on track and it worked.

:08:46. > :08:49.Subsequent to that, it's been handled badly and I think him

:08:50. > :08:55.involving himself in sending this message was unnecessary. There's

:08:56. > :08:59.talk about legal action against Chelsea. It's become a very messy

:09:00. > :09:07.situation. The player sitting on a beach in Brazil. It's just going on

:09:08. > :09:13.and on and on. He was working in a circus. If you weren't wanted by a

:09:14. > :09:22.club, what is the right way to go about it? If you are not wanted by

:09:23. > :09:29.the manager... OK, but... It's difficult. The club are backing him

:09:30. > :09:33.but there's a difference. The club would like him to stay. It's

:09:34. > :09:35.difficult because the manager obviously excellent team so if

:09:36. > :09:48.you're not going to get games come you obviously don't want to leave,.

:09:49. > :09:53.So if the management doesn't want you, you won't play games and things

:09:54. > :10:00.like that but it's difficult. He was top of the squad last year. It

:10:01. > :10:06.surprisingly wants to give it him. Obviously, his attitude might be the

:10:07. > :10:10.cause of it, but top scorer. But he wants to go and that's fine but they

:10:11. > :10:13.got to get the deal done so therefore, the head coach involving

:10:14. > :10:19.himself more in these messages doesn't help because he views that

:10:20. > :10:23.ammunition against him. One final question on Chelsea and then we will

:10:24. > :10:27.talk to Sam Vokes. Chelsea is all over the back pages of the moment.

:10:28. > :10:29.They didn't have a great start last season either and didn't get

:10:30. > :10:37.themselves going until September. It really isn't that big a deal after

:10:38. > :10:40.one game. It shouldn't be but the circumstances leading up to the

:10:41. > :10:45.game, the off-season, last season, the whole Diego Costa situation, it

:10:46. > :10:53.hasn't been dealt with that well but Italy by Antonio Conte. He wants to

:10:54. > :10:56.leave and he wants to go to Atletico Madrid but unfortunately for him,

:10:57. > :11:00.there's no way he can go there because of a transfer embargo. Under

:11:01. > :11:04.normal circumstances, they would just say it was a bad day but

:11:05. > :11:08.circumstances, red cards, but, in this case, because of what has gone

:11:09. > :11:15.on, behind-the-scenes, people will speculate. Not his fault, the way

:11:16. > :11:22.the club is run, not giving the players he wants. Chelsea have to

:11:23. > :11:26.take that positive despite having been 3-0 down, they shared the

:11:27. > :11:28.determination to come back, give them credit. You've got to get

:11:29. > :11:32.barely credit for their performance yesterday for that we have not done

:11:33. > :11:33.that yet. We will do it for the next five minutes for talking to Sam

:11:34. > :11:35.Vokes. Sam Vokes, who scored

:11:36. > :11:50.two of Burnley's goals, Yes. You don't have an impatient

:11:51. > :11:56.group behind you, do you? Not quite. It's very nice idea. Thank you to

:11:57. > :12:00.talking to us. Chelsea were down to nine men, but you played very well,

:12:01. > :12:15.despite that. Arguably, had great control of the game until Morata

:12:16. > :12:22.came on. Yes, 11 men. We gave a good account of ourselves throughout the

:12:23. > :12:29.game. We managed the game well. Would you say that, I don't know if

:12:30. > :12:34.we lost connection there but hopefully you are still there, is

:12:35. > :12:39.the club settled on and off the pitch, and even if your big players

:12:40. > :12:42.go, whether it be Andre Gray, not a great deal of noise comes out of

:12:43. > :12:48.Burnley and the wheels just keep on turning? Yes, I think you are right

:12:49. > :12:52.there. The gaffer has got the lads working and everyone knows their

:12:53. > :12:56.jobs within the camp. So it's like players moving on. Players come into

:12:57. > :13:02.the team straightaway know their job. Know how we work. It's been

:13:03. > :13:06.like that for a few years now. I think with the performance yesterday

:13:07. > :13:10.you can see that. Did you go to the game with a lot of confidence,

:13:11. > :13:14.knowing the speculation on Antonio Conte on the summer, the lack of

:13:15. > :13:20.movement with transfer windows for Chelsea, did you go there thinking

:13:21. > :13:23.you were going to get out the game? Yes, I think so. The gaffer

:13:24. > :13:26.mentioned before the game yesterday, a lot of noise coming out of

:13:27. > :13:31.Chelsea. For us to not get distracted by that. The first game

:13:32. > :13:34.of the season, what we've been building up to in pre-season for

:13:35. > :13:39.five or six weeks and we're looking forward to it. We were just

:13:40. > :13:45.concentrating going into that game. To give a good account of ourselves.

:13:46. > :13:52.I spoke to your manager yesterday after the game and that strange

:13:53. > :13:56.thing that happens when you are in a team and you are playing nine men

:13:57. > :13:59.and yet you feel the crowd and the impetus with the opposition and, on

:14:00. > :14:03.one hand, you are telling yourself it is 11 against nine but, at the

:14:04. > :14:08.same time, you feel like you are being overwhelmed. It must be a very

:14:09. > :14:11.odd feeling? Yes, it is a strange feeling, especially away from home.

:14:12. > :14:17.The crowd were behind them, obviously. It is sometimes harder to

:14:18. > :14:21.break down. And I think the way we went about it, especially when they

:14:22. > :14:25.went down to ten men, they moved the ball very well. I think that is

:14:26. > :14:31.where the goals came from, really. We kept moving side to side. Your

:14:32. > :14:38.eyes must have lit up when the cross came in for your second goal? Yes, a

:14:39. > :14:45.striker's dream. A short free kick. Stephen put a great ball in. I'm a

:14:46. > :14:54.striker who loves to go and attack. Wasn't a fluke? -- was it a fluke?

:14:55. > :14:59.No, I remember when he came from Simona Baumrtova. He did it. How was

:15:00. > :15:07.the golf going? Is it going all right? Not too bad. My partner is

:15:08. > :15:10.actually a Chelsea fan. I'm surprised he turned up for the game

:15:11. > :15:15.to be honest. Thank you very much for talking to us and we will see

:15:16. > :15:20.you soon. Thank you. Sam Vokes on Match of the Day 2 Extra.

:15:21. > :15:29.There was a point, Jason, yesterday, when a lot of people said you look

:15:30. > :15:32.at Burnley's bench and it was stronger than Chelsea's bench. I

:15:33. > :15:37.want to focus on that a little bit because it is a very well built

:15:38. > :15:41.balanced squad by Sean Dyche regardless of whether he this won

:15:42. > :15:49.yesterday? He's done some good business this summer. People talking

:15:50. > :15:53.about Gray. You forget the January window and last summer, he's been

:15:54. > :15:57.building over time, bringing in players. I think he's anticipated

:15:58. > :16:01.some of these things happening. The money for Gray's very good. Michael

:16:02. > :16:05.Keane, he knew for a long time he was going to leave. He has been

:16:06. > :16:08.planning for this. You look and think they don't look quite as

:16:09. > :16:13.strong as they did. I wouldn't discount them. The key yesterday was

:16:14. > :16:18.they won away from home which they weren't doing. Suddenly, they got a

:16:19. > :16:25.good away win. Do you think Sean Dyche is one of the most underrated

:16:26. > :16:30.managers in the league? Crystal Palace, Sam Allardyce goes and Daesh

:16:31. > :16:36.would be the obvious replacement for that move. I don't think he was ever

:16:37. > :16:41.in the frame. He seems to be, maybe it's perception, that gruff voice,

:16:42. > :16:45.the goatee or the shaved head, there's a perception can he really

:16:46. > :16:49.do any better than he's doing. Well, actually, he's done brilliantly. You

:16:50. > :16:56.could argue that with the players he brings in. He brings in good solid,

:16:57. > :17:02.dependable, I mean this as a compliment, professionals. Jack Cork

:17:03. > :17:04.was excellent yesterday. Really experienced Premier League

:17:05. > :17:09.midfielder who he has brought in for very little fuss. Robbie Brady in

:17:10. > :17:15.the January transfer window. They probably need another goal scorer to

:17:16. > :17:21.help Vokes out? Definitely. They need to bring somebody in to replace

:17:22. > :17:26.Andre Gray. He has his backroom staff looking around. They have to

:17:27. > :17:30.bring someone in. What a win. Great start to the season. Built up a lot

:17:31. > :17:36.of confidence for the next game. Anything can happen from here. Paul

:17:37. > :17:41.says, remember, there were two teams playing, the Clarets ever bit as

:17:42. > :17:45.good tactically as Chelsea weren't. Hopefully that's balanced it up for

:17:46. > :17:53.you, Paul. Let's go to St James's Park. On 5 live at 1.30, we'll bring

:17:54. > :17:59.you commentary for Newcastle against Spurs. Sell-out here at St James'

:18:00. > :18:02.Park. Beautiful sunshine. Newcastle United against Tottenham with Chris

:18:03. > :18:06.Waddle who know as lot about these two teams. You're summarising on 5

:18:07. > :18:13.live sport this afternoon. We'll talk about the teams in a minute.

:18:14. > :18:18.The atmosphere here will be rocking? Sold out. Lot of expectations for

:18:19. > :18:22.both teams. For Newcastle, if they're realistic, it is about

:18:23. > :18:26.survival, making sure they stay in the division. For Tottenham, second

:18:27. > :18:31.or third. They will he they will be looking for this year to win it. It

:18:32. > :18:35.is not at White Hart lane but it's all about today. A lot of people

:18:36. > :18:38.saying on form Tottenham should win this game. Experience at this level.

:18:39. > :18:42.Always in the top four at the minute. But, as we saw in the

:18:43. > :18:45.results yesterday, some things can happen. Newcastle will be looking to

:18:46. > :18:53.get off to a good start. They need to stay in this division. The mood

:18:54. > :18:56.hasn't been good with the lack of summer spending at Newcastle. That

:18:57. > :19:02.should be different once they get on the pitch? The worst thing is they

:19:03. > :19:11.go down in the first 10 or 15 mins. That would be ideal for Tottenham.

:19:12. > :19:15.This crowd will get behind them Rafa has a good record against Tottenham.

:19:16. > :19:20.If you look at #3w09 sides, Tottenham are a stronger side. It is

:19:21. > :19:26.90 minutes and anything can happen. . Tottenham depleted with options.

:19:27. > :19:29.Their summer's not been great. Not much noise around White Hart lane?

:19:30. > :19:35.Over the weekend a couple of rumours about a couple of players. One

:19:36. > :19:39.fromage axe. Tottenham will do business in the next couple of

:19:40. > :19:45.weeks. When you look at the squad Tottenham has, it is a very tasty

:19:46. > :19:50.squad. If he can keep everybody fit, they'll be knocking on the door

:19:51. > :19:55.again. Rafa's still here. That's great for Newcastle. The fans adore

:19:56. > :20:00.him. They'll have to support it and keep behind the side. He's probably

:20:01. > :20:06.hoping to survive and get on his hands and knees and plead for some

:20:07. > :20:09.money. May 2016? They Gotrel gated that day. Their heads were down

:20:10. > :20:14.after Leicester won the league. I don't think we'll get that today.

:20:15. > :20:21.Chris Waddle knows all about Newcastle and Tottenham. 5 live

:20:22. > :20:25.sports commentator from 1.30 I know it's only the opening game of the

:20:26. > :20:30.season, we've spoken about Chelsea and don't want to go overboard too

:20:31. > :20:37.soon. Is this a big game for both of them given how the summer's gone? I

:20:38. > :20:42.think so. We all know what's gone on with Tottenham. Roast coming out

:20:43. > :20:48.talking about lack of money, investment in the team. He's

:20:49. > :20:53.basically said what everyone's thinking. With Newcastle, Benitez

:20:54. > :20:59.has been vocal about the lack of moment in the transfer window. At

:21:00. > :21:02.the end of last season he said they wanted to compete in the top half of

:21:03. > :21:11.the table. He hasn't been given those funds. Now back to St James'

:21:12. > :21:19.Park for the team news. Plenty of new faces. What is interesting,

:21:20. > :21:24.they've replaced Kyle Walker with Kyle Walker Pieters. Young player

:21:25. > :21:29.making his Tottenham debut. Convenient for any players who've

:21:30. > :21:32.kept the jeersaway from last season. Dwight Gayle, 23 goals in the

:21:33. > :21:37.championship last season, he starts. Big injury doubt. Didn't play in the

:21:38. > :21:44.last warm-up game, friendly pre-season. He is fit to start this

:21:45. > :21:49.game. Manquillo who was at Sunderland on loan last season makes

:21:50. > :21:56.his debut. Lejeune also starts in the back four. For Tottenham, the

:21:57. > :22:02.team you'd expect can Keane, Dembele. With Trippier injured, it's

:22:03. > :22:07.Kyle Walker Pieters who starts for Tottenham. Let's deal with Spurs

:22:08. > :22:13.first. Back to Newcastle in a little while. On 5 live yesterday, we had a

:22:14. > :22:17.fan phone in. He wanted to be billed as an optimistic Spurs fan. He felt

:22:18. > :22:20.they were being written off when they haven't done a great deal wrong

:22:21. > :22:26.during the summer bar not signing anybody. As I said yesterday, if it

:22:27. > :22:32.isn't broke, why are you looking to fix it? Pa it is bringing fresh

:22:33. > :22:36.faces. People to challenge other people that are in the positions

:22:37. > :22:40.already. So people in the positions are not comfortable. They are

:22:41. > :22:45.expected to play because of who they are. So, when these other players

:22:46. > :22:48.come in, they're challenging for she is spots because they've been bout

:22:49. > :22:53.and the owner's spent the money. They will be playing well, training

:22:54. > :22:58.hard and trying to get in the positions those bows are in. Because

:22:59. > :23:01.it is the exact same team, you can pick the front four, you can pick

:23:02. > :23:07.nine of Tottenham's players before... Do you feel, I know you

:23:08. > :23:14.don't want to play right back, do you feel Zabaleta comes into West

:23:15. > :23:19.Ham, great, a challenge and at training as well or around out

:23:20. > :23:26.Veitch? I like the around out Veitch shout more! He comes in and you're

:23:27. > :23:30.thinking, great, a challenge, something different in training.

:23:31. > :23:34.Seriously. He's come in and he's a quality player. Established in the

:23:35. > :23:42.Premier League. I know I've got to be, when I'm playing, I've got to be

:23:43. > :23:50.on top form. If I don't, then, he's another quality player there who can

:23:51. > :23:55.take my place. Or there's other players like figurualy who are

:23:56. > :24:01.always challenging for my spot. If I don't play well, I have to stay on

:24:02. > :24:07.my toes and play well and I stay in my position. With Spurs, you're

:24:08. > :24:13.wondering, are people expecting them to just embellish the squad a bit,

:24:14. > :24:18.make it a bit bigger? It's more like, they're so close. Every year

:24:19. > :24:23.they're so close. Doingle with, doing well, at the end, they're

:24:24. > :24:27.always starting to fall off. It is about having more in the squad so

:24:28. > :24:32.when injuries happen or when people are starting to fall off their

:24:33. > :24:35.performances, they've got another person to freshen it up, make it

:24:36. > :24:44.better. I think they will sign three before the end of the window. I

:24:45. > :24:48.think, actually, Pochettino's not had one word of complaint. That

:24:49. > :24:52.indicates people are more confident than people are about Tottenham. I

:24:53. > :24:56.may live to regret this, I think they'll have a good season. Will be

:24:57. > :25:01.fine. Bring in two or three players. They've kept hold of everyone they

:25:02. > :25:05.want to. Continue bringing in... They were willing to sell Kyle

:25:06. > :25:09.Walker. I think they're not going to get sucked into playing the, ma.

:25:10. > :25:14.Some clubs have, some haven't. They're holding their nerve. I

:25:15. > :25:19.understand the discontent. Maybe I'm being a bit optimistic. Look at that

:25:20. > :25:24.first 11, still incredibly strong. I take Michail's point, you need to

:25:25. > :25:31.get 13, 14, 15 stronger to put the pressure on. That's very hard. I

:25:32. > :25:35.think they'll bring two or three players challenging for first team

:25:36. > :25:38.places. The first 11 are the best in the league. No doubting that. It is

:25:39. > :25:43.what they need to add to the squad. More depth. They need also another

:25:44. > :25:46.player or two that is of a similar if not better quality than some of

:25:47. > :25:49.the players in their team. Again, like we were talking about. It

:25:50. > :25:52.raises the bar. It challenges people. You want people to be

:25:53. > :25:57.outside their comfor the zone. Go to another level. Continually improve.

:25:58. > :26:01.At the moment, the improvement is through the manager. And players

:26:02. > :26:08.gaining experience. It only takes you so far. You need that extra camp

:26:09. > :26:13.tugs. Could they have got... Forget he might have wanted to go to

:26:14. > :26:19.Chelsea or this that and the other, hypothetically, could they have gone

:26:20. > :26:26.for Morata? They did but he didn't want to go there? Why? Because he

:26:27. > :26:31.couldn't get in ahead of Cain? That's what Pochettino says. If

:26:32. > :26:35.you're a centre half there, you think you won't get in? You hope

:26:36. > :26:41.you'd back yourselves over the season. Dyer wants to play midfield.

:26:42. > :26:44.Centre back is different. Harry Cain is an interesting problem going

:26:45. > :26:48.there as a striker. He'll play. Maybe they'll change the system up.

:26:49. > :26:53.As a professional, you have to back yourself. You can't stunt yourself

:26:54. > :26:58.feeling you're not going to play. Have you to take that step doored

:26:59. > :27:02.and believe in your ability. Last season, Harry Kane was out injured.

:27:03. > :27:10.They really did miss him. They covered the gaps and cracks. Dele

:27:11. > :27:14.Alli stepped in and scored goals. You can't continuously do that. If

:27:15. > :27:20.they are competitive on all fronts they need more quality quality. If

:27:21. > :27:24.they bring in Sanchez or Ross Barkley, that's two players. One

:27:25. > :27:32.more on top of that and losing Kyle Walker. Suddenly, it looks

:27:33. > :27:36.different. As far as Newcastle or concerned, can you understand Rafa

:27:37. > :27:41.been the he's frustrations over the summer? Yes, because of where he's

:27:42. > :27:46.been in the past. The clubs he's worked with. The funds he's always

:27:47. > :27:51.had available. I thought first and foremost, it was a real strange

:27:52. > :27:56.decision for him to go to Newcastle. Even though Newcastle's a massive

:27:57. > :27:58.club, but it's been a club that's never really fulfilled his

:27:59. > :28:07.potential. When he went there, I think it was an eyebrow lifter. I

:28:08. > :28:11.think he stayed in the championship on the prove eyes owe, you get us

:28:12. > :28:14.back up, we will back you and get a very competitive side in the Premier

:28:15. > :28:20.League but that just hasn't happened. I think it's fantastic he

:28:21. > :28:25.went there. He stayed there. Are you surprised he's still there? No, not

:28:26. > :28:29.really. I think Rafa's being Rafa. That that he is a not necessarily a

:28:30. > :28:33.criticism. I think he's pushing. He doesn't want to come back in the

:28:34. > :28:39.Premier League through the relegation zone. He wants to go back

:28:40. > :28:45.and compete. What was interesting last week, Mike Ashley said Rafa has

:28:46. > :28:48.the final say, I'm not a multi-bibillionaire with money

:28:49. > :28:54.veilage. He put the pressure back on the manager. There were dealings

:28:55. > :28:59.they didn't close. Caballero going to Chelsea instead of Newcastle.

:29:00. > :29:04.Deals could have been done that Rafa's frustrated about. I think he

:29:05. > :29:09.will stay. This constant rumbling will continue. There's an argue

:29:10. > :29:14.automatic, Mikhail, I don't want you getting loads of stick from

:29:15. > :29:19.Newcastle fans, as big as Newcastle are, they are huge as I have, big

:29:20. > :29:28.club, one club city, they are a promoter club. If they're going

:29:29. > :29:31.head-to-head for Ake or whoever, Bournemouth and Swansea are more

:29:32. > :29:39.established Premier League clubs than Newcastle at the moment? I

:29:40. > :29:41.would say myself, between Swansea, Bournemouth and Newcastle,

:29:42. > :29:47.Newcastle's very likely the biggest club out of the three of them. For

:29:48. > :29:53.me, personally, if those three clubs you were coming in for me, I would

:29:54. > :29:57.more likely sway to Newcastle more than Bournemouth or Swansea.

:29:58. > :30:04.Newcastle is more of a bigger club. If they had the ambition, I believe

:30:05. > :30:10.if they had more of the drive and more of a talk with the players, I

:30:11. > :30:15.think other players will be in the same opinion as me. There has to be

:30:16. > :30:21.something else, the reason why other teams got them over Newcastle.

:30:22. > :30:27.You'll get lots of love from Newcastle and I'll get the stick.

:30:28. > :30:32.Thank you. Let's stay on transfers and players wanting to leave clubs.

:30:33. > :30:35.Philippe Coutinho just one. Alan Shearer said on Match of the Day

:30:36. > :30:41.last night that Liverpool have to sell him. What was amazing yesterday

:30:42. > :30:46.was the number of players linked with moves away whether van Dyke,

:30:47. > :30:51.Sigurdsson, Coutinho. An she. Danny Drinkwater. Amazing how many

:30:52. > :30:57.niggles, strains, viruses are picked up.

:30:58. > :31:05.It's not a coincidence! LAUGHTER

:31:06. > :31:10.No, you can read into it however you choose to read into it. I would like

:31:11. > :31:17.to think everybody has got legitimate injuries. You know the

:31:18. > :31:25.ins and outs of football and people do what they have to do. Coutinho is

:31:26. > :31:31.a phenomenal player. Clearly he wants to leave. He's had a transfer

:31:32. > :31:33.request, they rejected it, Jurgen Klopp has been diplomatic in the

:31:34. > :31:38.sense that he said the owners of that no, we have wanted to keep him

:31:39. > :31:42.so he is posted onto their side and said, I'm the manager, I have 23

:31:43. > :31:46.other players to look after. He is one of them as well but I need to do

:31:47. > :31:50.with everyone. The club have made that decision. The club want to keep

:31:51. > :31:55.him because he's a world-class player but when a player like

:31:56. > :32:03.Coutinho is being chased by Barcelona, it's difficult for him to

:32:04. > :32:08.stay. He can't turn down Barcelona. He's made it very clear he hasn't.

:32:09. > :32:13.As a player, you can't turn down Barcelona. If they come knocking,

:32:14. > :32:18.you go. I feel Liverpool is doing the right thing for the club.

:32:19. > :32:25.Because he is basically their best player, he makes things happen from

:32:26. > :32:31.nothing. And, standing their ground, then again, would you want a

:32:32. > :32:34.player... Last season, you had a player who wants to leave and the

:32:35. > :32:38.clubs that no, so you know what it's like in that environment when a

:32:39. > :32:42.player is turned and he doesn't want to stay. I'm not saying Coutinho

:32:43. > :32:52.will do the same thing, but that the issue. Did it affect your dressing

:32:53. > :32:58.room? I believe, as a player, I think the club should let him go

:32:59. > :33:02.because his head has been turned. And the effect it has on the group,

:33:03. > :33:05.on the player himself. He's never going to be the exact same player

:33:06. > :33:09.because his body and mind is no longer at Liverpool. You've got to

:33:10. > :33:15.let him go because is not going to be the same player that he was. I

:33:16. > :33:19.think he thinks he has professionally behaved well until

:33:20. > :33:23.this point and this is an offer so large and big Liverpool can't turn

:33:24. > :33:27.it down. I think that's why he put in a transfer request. I think, on

:33:28. > :33:31.the other side of that, Liverpool's owners have made a statement, their

:33:32. > :33:35.credibility is now on the line with the supporters. The problem is, if

:33:36. > :33:40.you go so strong and say you're not selling him, and then you do sell

:33:41. > :33:47.him, the fans won't like it. It's possibly too late in the window for

:33:48. > :33:51.Liverpool. It's not going to happen in this window. I suspect they will

:33:52. > :33:56.say to Coutinho, give us one more year like we did with Suarez. I'm

:33:57. > :34:00.not sure Barcelona will come back for him next year. It could be now

:34:01. > :34:05.or never for him so at a very difficult situation. 100 million,

:34:06. > :34:11.its huge. How can you turn that down? The players thinking, I came

:34:12. > :34:15.here for ?10 million. I've been good to the club, this is my moment, but

:34:16. > :34:18.the club have got to look after themselves as well. When the owners

:34:19. > :34:24.when so strong, it's difficult to let him go. He's been a very good

:34:25. > :34:31.servant to the club. He has, is done well. The situation he's in now,

:34:32. > :34:35.Barcelona have come knocking, a quality team, they always do well in

:34:36. > :34:42.La Liga, the Champions League, it's an opportunity for him to go out and

:34:43. > :34:48.do things. In contrast to Suarez, this might be Coutinho's only chance

:34:49. > :34:56.to go to Barcelona. Definitely, because Barcelona need to replace

:34:57. > :35:03.Neymar. They have to have a back-up. They are under such pressure to buy.

:35:04. > :35:09.They've got to get Coutinho. They've got to get out there and spend some

:35:10. > :35:15.money. This is Coutinho's chance. I don't see Barcelona coming in next

:35:16. > :35:18.summer. I totally agree with you. Liverpool run the risk, if they

:35:19. > :35:21.don't allow him to go, they don't get as much as they possibly can for

:35:22. > :35:26.him, they got a disgruntled player and someone, I'm not sure what is

:35:27. > :35:33.like as a person, but he may not put in the work. He is a shy guy, but he

:35:34. > :35:37.won't be the same player. It's not about putting any effort. It's

:35:38. > :35:44.mentally, he's not going to be the same player. One thing in football,

:35:45. > :35:50.you can try your hardest, but if you are mentally not right, you're not

:35:51. > :35:55.going to the same player. When I was at Fulham, there was talk about

:35:56. > :35:59.Arsenal coming in for me and I was adamant I wanted to go and the club

:36:00. > :36:02.refused to let me go and it took me three months at least to get over it

:36:03. > :36:09.and even then I never really got over it. Did you feel resentment?

:36:10. > :36:18.Yes. Towards anyone and everyone. It was more about, the manager as well,

:36:19. > :36:22.and above. Definitely. They were the people who would not let me go. I

:36:23. > :36:28.was 37 years old so it is a different situation. I was 37 and it

:36:29. > :36:32.was the end of my career. It is similar with Coutinho in the fact it

:36:33. > :36:37.could be his only opportunity. I don't think it's his one and only

:36:38. > :36:42.opportunity to go to a big club but Barcelona may be. For Brazilians,

:36:43. > :36:48.Real Madrid and Barcelona is everything for them. Can you

:36:49. > :36:52.understand fans in general, with a lot of players, when they are

:36:53. > :36:58.disgruntled and wanting to go, fans say, why did you sign a five-year

:36:59. > :37:05.contract at them? LAUGHTER

:37:06. > :37:10.Or, as a player... As a player, these other contracts basically...

:37:11. > :37:15.It's one of those things where... You sign a contract, you sign five

:37:16. > :37:22.years because obviously there are security unit, for the club, for the

:37:23. > :37:28.player. It goes either way. It's not about a five-year contract. It could

:37:29. > :37:31.be a five-year contract and they don't want you any more and you

:37:32. > :37:36.still need to move because you're not going to play. Even though you

:37:37. > :37:42.have signed a five-year contract, the team doesn't want you, the team

:37:43. > :37:45.won't play you, you have to move. You've signed a five-year contract

:37:46. > :37:50.but need to move because bigger things are calling you. The club are

:37:51. > :37:53.in a stronger position now because he signed a long-term contract. I

:37:54. > :37:57.know people get upset about it, particularly fans, because they are

:37:58. > :38:00.very emotional about it that you commit to a long period of time at

:38:01. > :38:08.the club that won a club like Barcelona comes in someone, but

:38:09. > :38:11.there's a select few clubs who could come in for Coutinho and turn his

:38:12. > :38:16.head and Barcelona is one of them and the club will be well rewarded

:38:17. > :38:22.if he were to be sold. It's only certain clubs. If Man United came

:38:23. > :38:26.in, Chelsea, Man City, I don't think he would handle a transfer request

:38:27. > :38:32.but the fact it's Barcelona, even Real Madrid, those two clubs, they

:38:33. > :38:36.will turn anyone. The only two clubs who would do it. Let's move on to

:38:37. > :38:45.the 4pm. We will talk about Huddersfield before the end of the

:38:46. > :38:51.show unless these three go on. Anyhow, Man Utd v West Ham, what is

:38:52. > :38:57.the feeling in the squad? Very positive. Some great signings this

:38:58. > :39:08.year, Joe Hart, Arnautovic, so going forward, we look like a threat. We

:39:09. > :39:11.have solidified outback four. We have great experience, Arnautovic,

:39:12. > :39:17.playing the last two years. Pablo Zabaleta has been there. Premier

:39:18. > :39:22.League experience. That's all we needed and we got the people. To be

:39:23. > :39:28.honest, I think we did all right last year. I'm now on the bench so I

:39:29. > :39:34.can be called upon. We've got more of the squad as well. I trained with

:39:35. > :39:39.them this week. I really feel positive. The boys are looking

:39:40. > :39:43.sharp. This may seem an odd question given your home form last season,

:39:44. > :39:49.but it'd advantage having to play so many away at the start of the season

:39:50. > :39:55.because the stadium isn't ready because of the athletics? It's a

:39:56. > :40:02.disadvantage because Old Trafford is a massive arena, but you are getting

:40:03. > :40:08.them out of the way. To me, and to the boys, these games, we will go

:40:09. > :40:12.out there and give everything, and it doesn't matter if we are at home

:40:13. > :40:17.or way. We will still try to win the game. You could say it's better for

:40:18. > :40:22.you. Last season that was form at home. You can go away, get some good

:40:23. > :40:29.results and your belt, go home and have more confidence. You have

:40:30. > :40:35.Arnautovic, Pablo Zabaleta, Joe Hart, they will help you feel

:40:36. > :40:40.better. It'll be less of thing this season. Last season, when West Ham

:40:41. > :40:45.beat Tottenham, you have got a few good memories now. I was with Slaven

:40:46. > :40:48.Bilic on Thursday and he said, he will think he scored from here, and

:40:49. > :40:55.there's better memories coming through. It a difficult transition.

:40:56. > :40:59.What's fascinating that West Ham, he's got all his top targets. It's

:41:00. > :41:09.unusual to get your five top targets. More to come, hopefully.

:41:10. > :41:14.When Michail is back fit, he will have a team he wants. Conversely, it

:41:15. > :41:19.puts the pressure back on him. They need to do better, he knows that.

:41:20. > :41:23.West Ham have the best transfer window out of all the teams. When

:41:24. > :41:26.you look at the quality players they brought in, with Premier League

:41:27. > :41:32.experience, it's great. Manchester United. Jose Mourinho, you know him

:41:33. > :41:36.well. Anybody seems to be saying this now is more of the Jose

:41:37. > :41:46.Mourinho squad, the power physical side of it, and the height. West Ham

:41:47. > :41:50.practising headers this week. What's most important is to share Jose

:41:51. > :41:56.Mourinho himself. The message to bring into the media, the knows this

:41:57. > :41:59.is his team. He's happy with the recruitment. He feels very confident

:42:00. > :42:04.going forward and he knows he's got to contest for the title this

:42:05. > :42:09.season. I think Manchester United are a big, big possibility of

:42:10. > :42:15.winning the title. I saw Man City yesterday. They dominated the game

:42:16. > :42:19.for 99% of the game. The final pass was missing. They got quality all

:42:20. > :42:22.over the pitch however there are big questions defensively and also the

:42:23. > :42:28.new signings, the lack of Premier League experience. United is title

:42:29. > :42:37.to lose. Liverpool not strengthening right areas. No signing at Spurs. We

:42:38. > :42:42.ought to talk about Huddersfield. Winning at Crystal Palace yesterday.

:42:43. > :42:46.A deserved win, as well? Absolutely. The victory at Chelsea was a big

:42:47. > :42:49.result of the day but this is a huge result. To win away from home in the

:42:50. > :42:53.first game in the Premier League, no matter where you go, a massive boost

:42:54. > :42:58.their confidence and a deserved win. I think it traumatised Crystal

:42:59. > :43:04.Palace in a sense that they are off to a flyer. A bit of momentum. We

:43:05. > :43:09.all think they will go down. But the bottom of the Premier League is much

:43:10. > :43:14.of a muchness at times. If you can get momentum going, you can get

:43:15. > :43:17.yourself into quite a good position and then we don't know what will

:43:18. > :43:23.happen after that, whether they've got strong enough resources but I
