:00:26. > :00:28.Good afternoon, welcome to Match Of The Day 2 Extra

:00:29. > :00:31.on BBC Two and the BBC Sport website.

:00:32. > :00:35.Joining me today are Former England, Manchester City and Middlesbrough

:00:36. > :00:37.defender Danny Mills, England and Chelsea Ladies striker

:00:38. > :00:40.Eni Aluko and Henry Winter, who's Chief Football Writer

:00:41. > :00:50.Use the hashtag #bbcfootball on social media, or text 85058

:00:51. > :00:56.11th Heaven for Chelsea who win at Crystal Palace

:00:57. > :01:04.Hull will be bottom at Christmas after losing at West Ham.

:01:05. > :01:09.We'll be live at the Etihad where Manchester City play

:01:10. > :01:12.And - ahead of Monday night's Merseyside derby -

:01:13. > :01:20.The headlines on the back pages this morning...

:01:21. > :01:24.It claims Pep Guardiola will make a ?25 million

:01:25. > :01:26.move for Arsenal's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in January.

:01:27. > :01:28.In The Mirror - Bigger Than El Classico.

:01:29. > :01:29.ahead of tomorrow night's Merseyside derby,

:01:30. > :01:30.Ronald Koeman has claimed this

:01:31. > :01:35.In The Sunday Times - Top of the Tree, with Chelsea nine

:01:36. > :01:40.points clear at the top of the Premier League.

:01:41. > :01:43.That's where we'll start - with Chelsea, who have

:01:44. > :01:48.The record in the Premier League is 14.

:01:49. > :01:58.The next three games they don't have to leave London. That is fortunate.

:01:59. > :02:06.They will also be without Diego Costa for the suspension. But, the

:02:07. > :02:09.way that Antonio Conte has transformed that team, ten minutes

:02:10. > :02:14.into the game at the Emirates, I was there, they were trailing 3-0 to

:02:15. > :02:18.Arsenal, the way that he has Hazard playing at his best again.

:02:19. > :02:22.Costa was booked yesterday, but he has got him restrained and focused

:02:23. > :02:30.on bullying the defence with his ability. He has called for at

:02:31. > :02:35.Sunderland midweek, a fabulous save from van Aanholt.

:02:36. > :02:39.The wingbacks out wide, Moses has played fantastically. That

:02:40. > :02:42.celebration at the end, on some of the football pull-outs, that

:02:43. > :02:46.emotional engagement that he has with the fans, the fans respond to

:02:47. > :02:49.it. It's been incredible, three at the back.

:02:50. > :02:53.They have conceded twice, once to mentor and another time to Spurs,

:02:54. > :02:58.quite a record. -- wants to Manchester

:02:59. > :03:04.City. When you look at the great teams over the years, the great

:03:05. > :03:11.Barcelona side, the same back Webb Whee Kim, week out. Manchester

:03:12. > :03:15.United never really changed it -- week in, week out.

:03:16. > :03:21.All of these teams are built on a solid defence. I agree with Henry

:03:22. > :03:29.committee has adjusted the formation. The wingbacks are key,

:03:30. > :03:34.Hazard and Costa are special. N'Golo Kante and Matic are good up front.

:03:35. > :03:38.Moses has been out on loan to every Premier League club in the last few

:03:39. > :03:43.seasons. Alonso has come from nowhere, not ripping up any trees

:03:44. > :03:47.previously in the Premier League. A good set of players. He has given

:03:48. > :03:51.them confidence, they now have belief and they are buying into him

:03:52. > :03:56.and his velocity and are doing extremely well. They are full of

:03:57. > :04:00.confidence. Eni Aluko can you are around the Chelsea training Centre,

:04:01. > :04:04.do you notice a difference around the place? Gary Cahill said

:04:05. > :04:08.yesterday that the team have an invincibility about them. When they

:04:09. > :04:12.go onto the pitch, they know they will win. Gary Cahill himself had a

:04:13. > :04:17.shaky start, in that Arsenal game he made a mistake. He's come back in

:04:18. > :04:20.stature. The back three, Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill and David

:04:21. > :04:27.Luiz, they look solid and like they will not concede. Of 11 games, nine

:04:28. > :04:32.clean sheets. 11 games unbeaten. You could see

:04:33. > :04:36.with Hal Costa went over to Antonio Conte, there is a bond between the

:04:37. > :04:39.players. What made it special in terms of this achievement, it is

:04:40. > :04:45.pretty much the same set of players lasted that did so bad and Jose

:04:46. > :04:50.Mourinho. Clearly, there is an investment in Antonio Conte and what

:04:51. > :04:53.he is doing -- did so badly under Jose Mourinho.

:04:54. > :04:58.The best thing was losing against Arsenal that day. I cannot see them

:04:59. > :05:03.being beaten after they have changed so much. How do you get that mental

:05:04. > :05:08.strength and trust your players so quickly? Antonio Conte has two sides

:05:09. > :05:13.to him, he is quite a hard bike and really wants to suffer with his

:05:14. > :05:16.players on the sideline. He talks about it a lot, every ball is being

:05:17. > :05:22.kicked. It builds a bond and relationship.

:05:23. > :05:27.There was pressure on the players to improve on the last season. With new

:05:28. > :05:32.ideas and new formations, and a new manager. Obviously, it has worked in

:05:33. > :05:35.their favour. Winning helps hugely. When they first changed their

:05:36. > :05:40.system, if they lost the first game, they would have gone, I'm not

:05:41. > :05:45.sure... Winning one, winning two, the players go, we like this! And it

:05:46. > :05:49.builds from there. Yes, you got the formation right and worked on it but

:05:50. > :05:56.you need that bit of luck initially. When the manager comes in in

:05:57. > :05:57.January, if you have that honeymoon period.

:05:58. > :06:02.He changed it slightly, it worked. Henry will remind us, the game where

:06:03. > :06:06.Costa wanted to come off, he thought he was going to be booked or

:06:07. > :06:12.suspended, Antonio Conte went, no. It was a massive turning point in

:06:13. > :06:16.respect from only Costa, but the other players went, actually, I will

:06:17. > :06:20.not back down. I'm in charge and it is working. It could have gone one

:06:21. > :06:25.of two ways. Costa could have done what he did to Jose Mourinho.

:06:26. > :06:29.Downing tools, I would do this, I won't like it... But it went the

:06:30. > :06:32.other way. There are enough, you are right, and you can see this

:06:33. > :06:37.relationship he has is fantastic. That is what it is all about.

:06:38. > :06:40.Jose Mourinho had it two years ago. The relationship between the manager

:06:41. > :06:48.and player nowadays is not so much the coaching, it is key. Do you see

:06:49. > :06:53.a difference in Chelsea? The bench, they are strong there as well. He

:06:54. > :06:57.bought the most important footballer in 2016 in N'Golo Kante. He was

:06:58. > :07:01.Footballer of the Year last season. If anything he has improved him.

:07:02. > :07:04.He's let him off the lead a little bit.

:07:05. > :07:11.He says, go and attack. You saw those attempts yesterday on goal.

:07:12. > :07:15.And he is playing with better players. That will improve a bit. He

:07:16. > :07:21.did that with the French national side. I think that players respond

:07:22. > :07:25.to Conte, like Liverpool players with Jurgen Klopp. There is

:07:26. > :07:29.something about Conte, when he comes into the Press Conference, he is

:07:30. > :07:33.measured and it is a different contrast to the jack in the box

:07:34. > :07:36.getting the fans and the players going.

:07:37. > :07:41.He is very calm. If you have a manager who can go through the

:07:42. > :07:44.gears, who can trial these different things, who can be emotional and

:07:45. > :07:49.very intelligent and measured, a good man manager as well, you have

:07:50. > :07:53.one of the best around. He is not suddenly bursting onto the scene.

:07:54. > :07:57.This reputation with Italy and the national team at club level... And

:07:58. > :08:00.in the Euros, we forgot that this year Italy were one of the

:08:01. > :08:07.favourites in the tournament to win it. He had a fantastic Euros with

:08:08. > :08:11.Italy. Obviously, he has the confidence in that formation that we

:08:12. > :08:16.have not seen a lot in the Premier League. That the players are buying

:08:17. > :08:20.into. In terms of weaknesses, perhaps the back three, there could

:08:21. > :08:24.be a team who figures out how to get them with pace. Gary Cahill, I

:08:25. > :08:30.mentioned, he has made some mistakes this season but at the moment they

:08:31. > :08:35.are keeping those clean sheets, and winning 1-0. John Terry cannot even

:08:36. > :08:40.get into the team. That is testimony... It is consistency.

:08:41. > :08:45.Leicester made many changes to their starting line-up through the season.

:08:46. > :08:54.At Chelsea, 13 or 14... Manchester City at the back have made over 50

:08:55. > :08:58.changes. All good teams are built on consistency, especially defensively.

:08:59. > :09:01.You need that relationship and understanding. Forward players, you

:09:02. > :09:06.can say to them, express yourself and go and play. You cannot do that

:09:07. > :09:10.with defence. Players like to have that kind of consistency every week.

:09:11. > :09:13.They know their job and what they are doing. They know who they are

:09:14. > :09:20.playing alongside and it helps massively. We talk about consistency

:09:21. > :09:22.and in January that becomes the question, in the Daily Mirror this

:09:23. > :09:26.morning, they were talking about upsetting the balance.

:09:27. > :09:32.He will have to bring in a couple? You can always bring in a couple. It

:09:33. > :09:36.is not a huge problem. Willian did very well and had tragic

:09:37. > :09:42.circumstances. Pedro came in and did very well. Fabregas has played in

:09:43. > :09:47.the last few games, dipping in and out. You can change one or two, that

:09:48. > :09:51.is not a problem. But you cannot make wholesale changes every week.

:09:52. > :09:55.At Manchester City, that does not work. Look at players like

:09:56. > :09:59.Rodriguez, and they have other players who can do it. I would like

:10:00. > :10:02.to see him bring in a couple from the Academy.

:10:03. > :10:05.It is a gamble and it is difficult at Chelsea, it is about results and

:10:06. > :10:09.managers come and go quickly but look at the young players. You

:10:10. > :10:12.probably see them daily, it is probably one of the best academies

:10:13. > :10:21.in Europe. Let's give them a chance and not

:10:22. > :10:22.ship them away, give them a chance at Chelsea.

:10:23. > :10:25.Like Tammy Abrahams scoring goals in the lower leagues, you think, what

:10:26. > :10:31.point will they be given a chance that? If John Terry cannot get into

:10:32. > :10:36.the team... I think that Chelsea need another striker. For someone

:10:37. > :10:40.like Costa, suspended against Bournemouth, who else is really

:10:41. > :10:46.going to bear the burden of scoring goals? Hazard is scoring as well.

:10:47. > :10:51.Batshuayi? Does he have a lot of goals in him? That is the problem

:10:52. > :10:55.committee has great potential but we do not know. He is not going to get

:10:56. > :10:58.a start while Diego Costa is playing -- that is the problem, he has great

:10:59. > :11:07.attention. He will get a game, but the moment Costa is

:11:08. > :11:12.in... We have had some tweets, the

:11:13. > :11:18.reliance on Costa is a weakness. Weaknesses of Chelsea are the

:11:19. > :11:24.ballplaying skills of Alonso, Matic... It's interesting. They are

:11:25. > :11:28.better than you think. They have to do a certain job. N'Golo Kante and

:11:29. > :11:34.Matic can play, he does not give the ball away often. Moses has been

:11:35. > :11:44.exceptional. Alonzo, as we talked about, he is very steady and does a

:11:45. > :11:46.great job for the team -- Alonso. Conte does the best for the team,

:11:47. > :11:49.not just putting in the stars. Swansea's 3-0 defeat

:11:50. > :11:52.at Middlesbrough leaves them level on points with Hull,

:11:53. > :12:03.who are bottom. Here is Bob Bradley... It's the same

:12:04. > :12:07.story. We began OK, but we conceded before we know it, we are down two.

:12:08. > :12:12.In the second half you have to push a little bit. The final product is

:12:13. > :12:16.not good enough. REPORTER: It is clear that you are

:12:17. > :12:21.about building resilience, how do you do that if you do not see it at

:12:22. > :12:24.the moment? It comes from making plays at important moments and the

:12:25. > :12:27.group mentality. You can talk about it but it has too happen on the

:12:28. > :12:30.field. We are disappointed now. We came in

:12:31. > :12:36.with a good idea that this was a match where we could take on points.

:12:37. > :12:38.We didn't, but we turn our attention to two really important home matches

:12:39. > :12:42.at the beginning of the Christmas period.

:12:43. > :12:45.I was at the game yesterday, it's another example of Swansea's

:12:46. > :12:52.terrible away form. They must address it, Danny? Even that game

:12:53. > :12:59.where they won 5-4, he cannot concede four goals and expect a win

:13:00. > :13:00.every single one. He has won one game.

:13:01. > :13:04.Normally you have the honeymoon period when a new manager comes in,

:13:05. > :13:07.it is a massive gamble. I thought he does not know the Premier League at

:13:08. > :13:11.all. An American owner, an American coach

:13:12. > :13:17.or manager, that has not worked. The worry now is, what do they do in

:13:18. > :13:21.January? Give him money to spend? Bring in players into a league that

:13:22. > :13:25.he does not really know? Or, change the manager? It must be on their

:13:26. > :13:30.minds at the moment. But this is more than Bob Bradley, it's a

:13:31. > :13:35.culture of almost Tikay at the club over the last two years in terms

:13:36. > :13:40.of... -- decay. When they lost players like Ashley Williams, he was

:13:41. > :13:44.a leader and an outstanding defender. You must replace quality

:13:45. > :13:47.with quality and they happened. When Wilfried Bony left, and Ashley

:13:48. > :13:53.Williams, you could argue certain places in central midfield. We could

:13:54. > :13:58.blame Bob Bradley and he probably won't last that long. Do you think

:13:59. > :14:02.that they have lost their way, Swansea? Definitely. Once upon a

:14:03. > :14:05.time, and Rogers, Martinez... They brought through players and had a

:14:06. > :14:12.certain style. Even under Garry Monk. They lost players every year,

:14:13. > :14:16.but they manage... They will bring managers through who understood the

:14:17. > :14:19.philosophy. They have gone down the opposite route. New owners, new

:14:20. > :14:21.manager. He does not know the philosophy of the club. Suddenly, it

:14:22. > :14:33.is falling apart. We have got some tweets. Ian reckons

:14:34. > :14:37.Leeds will be changing leagues next season! This one says, I am

:14:38. > :14:42.surprised Bradley has not been sacked already. Allardyce is what we

:14:43. > :14:47.need, he says. It is crazy to think that he has only been in for seven

:14:48. > :14:49.or eight games, ten games, and he's already having to fight for his

:14:50. > :14:54.credibility as a manager? This is the think what is the solution?

:14:55. > :14:59.Solution cannot be to sack Bob Bradley. Because they've already

:15:00. > :15:04.changed managers to war three times. And Barry Davies asked the identity

:15:05. > :15:09.from when Brendan Rodgers was there, Martinez they have a of play. I

:15:10. > :15:13.think it is the players, I think it is a lack of quality. And what have

:15:14. > :15:18.they got to lose in January by bringing better players in? That has

:15:19. > :15:23.to be the solution, because otherwise I think they will find

:15:24. > :15:25.themselves whether gated. They have got immense quality in Gylfi

:15:26. > :15:28.Sigurdsson, and I suppose it will be a question whether they can hang

:15:29. > :15:32.onto him? Gylfi Sigurdsson has been superb for them, he has been one of

:15:33. > :15:37.their few shining lights. The other issue Bob Bradley has at the moment

:15:38. > :15:44.is, there are some good managers out there, waiting by the phone, whether

:15:45. > :15:47.it's Sam Allardyce, Gary Rowett, who ridiculously lost his job. If you

:15:48. > :15:50.went for him, maybe you would we going back to the old Swansea

:15:51. > :15:56.philosophy, just giving someone a chance. Maybe they will revisit Ryan

:15:57. > :16:00.Giggs, I don't know. He has been touted for that position in the

:16:01. > :16:04.past. Let's move on to a team who currently sit bottom. You know Hull

:16:05. > :16:08.reasonably well from when your brother was playing for them. They

:16:09. > :16:11.lost at West Ham yesterday but there were a bit unlucky, I think West Ham

:16:12. > :16:19.gave Man of the Match to the posts after the game! Yes, I have never

:16:20. > :16:24.seen anything like it. Hull started really strong, and they've lost

:16:25. > :16:26.their way bit. They just don't have quality, they don't have a

:16:27. > :16:29.goal-scorer in the team. When you look at someone like Middlesbrough,

:16:30. > :16:36.with Negredo confident, Gaston Ramirez playing well. They have got

:16:37. > :16:42.goals in their team. Hull just don't have enough goals in the team I

:16:43. > :16:47.think to stay up, unfortunately. I don't know what's happened since the

:16:48. > :16:51.start of the season for them to lose their way, but it just seems they're

:16:52. > :16:57.not winning games, not even drawing games at the moment. I think you

:16:58. > :17:01.have got to look at the owners as well. There is a bad atmosphere at

:17:02. > :17:06.the club, your brother probably experienced it, you have got owners

:17:07. > :17:11.who are completely unloved, there's tension with the fans, they're

:17:12. > :17:15.falling out over the direction of the club, and they even tried to

:17:16. > :17:21.change the name of the club. When you've got that negative atmosphere

:17:22. > :17:25.in the background, it must impact. Yes, I think it has been unsteady

:17:26. > :17:29.for years. Steve Bruce was the mainstay, to a certain extent,

:17:30. > :17:33.brought a lot of players in, and at least the players knew his voice,

:17:34. > :17:44.knew what he wanted. Do you think Steve Bruce saw it coming? I think

:17:45. > :17:47.so. You're right, the pure lack of quality, if you're relying on

:17:48. > :17:50.Mbokani to keep you in the Premier League, Norwich found out, you're

:17:51. > :17:55.going to struggle. And that's a problem for them. Steve Bruce left,

:17:56. > :17:58.new manager came in, another transfer window, no players of any

:17:59. > :18:04.quality were brought in. And ultimately, teams with worse players

:18:05. > :18:08.generally finish down at the bottom. I think Hull have had a good enough

:18:09. > :18:11.crack over the last five or six years to actually figure out how to

:18:12. > :18:17.stay in the Premier League. They have been a yo-yo team. So for me, I

:18:18. > :18:20.think they have an opportunity this year when they were promoted to

:18:21. > :18:26.actually build a squad that was going to really compete, like how

:18:27. > :18:30.Bournemouth did last season. And maybe it's because of the owner,

:18:31. > :18:34.they just do not seem to get the squad Chilton in order to stay in

:18:35. > :18:39.the Premier League rather than always being in a relegation battle.

:18:40. > :18:45.And then, how do you attract players without that harmony behind the

:18:46. > :18:49.scenes? And it is difficult to bring players to Hull. I think even people

:18:50. > :18:53.up there will say. Hull has got a lot of attractions but it is not

:18:54. > :18:58.like a London club for players in the transfer window. I was going to

:18:59. > :19:02.ask you to name some of the attractions. They've got some fairly

:19:03. > :19:08.well-known museums, they got some nice countryside nearby. You live

:19:09. > :19:17.nearby, don't you?! They've got The Deep! It was a must-win for them -

:19:18. > :19:26.do you see signs of life with Sunderland? If you have got Jermain

:19:27. > :19:28.Defoe, you've got a chance because he's just extraordinary, his

:19:29. > :19:33.understanding of the art of finishing. And I think, they have

:19:34. > :19:38.got Jordan Pickford, one of the best young goalkeepers around, who is

:19:39. > :19:44.remarkably mature for a young goalkeeper. But wealthy clubs

:19:45. > :19:47.looking for goalkeepers, and we may come onto Liverpool at some point,

:19:48. > :19:50.they're going to look at Jordan Pickford. And Sunderland will have

:19:51. > :19:57.to really fight to keep a talent like him. What I like about him, for

:19:58. > :20:00.a young goalkeeper, he's pretty commanding. He shouts at far more

:20:01. > :20:06.senior players, but they've got to hold onto him. You say that, and

:20:07. > :20:11.showed he is vitally important, but have not been able to make much

:20:12. > :20:14.revenue in recent years from selling players on. And the chairman has

:20:15. > :20:18.said there will not be much in the kitty from January. So they will

:20:19. > :20:22.have to do this all with the players they have? When I look at their

:20:23. > :20:28.side, they've got a lot more quality than Hull and a lot more experience.

:20:29. > :20:35.I find it a bit strange that there is no money to bring in, with the TV

:20:36. > :20:39.deal last year, whatever it was. I think he said limited funds,

:20:40. > :20:44.whatever that means. Surely you've got to gamble, even if that means

:20:45. > :20:48.bringing in loan players. People who would go there for the end of the

:20:49. > :20:52.season, take a bonus if they stay up, that kind of thing. You've got

:20:53. > :20:55.to freshen it up somehow in January. But you're right come as long as

:20:56. > :21:01.they've got Jermain Defoe, they've got a great chance. They've got a

:21:02. > :21:05.goal-scorer. Hull haven't, Swansea haven't. I think Victor Anichebe has

:21:06. > :21:10.done well since he has come in as well. Big target striker, complete

:21:11. > :21:16.opposite to Jermain Defoe, but has scored some important goals. Played

:21:17. > :21:19.under David Moyes at Everton. He has been a big positive as well. I think

:21:20. > :21:23.Sunderland are looking good, but obviously, behind-the-scenes, it

:21:24. > :21:31.sounds like quite a strained situation with the owners. Yes, it's

:21:32. > :21:37.really only that defeat to Swansea which has been a lot in the last

:21:38. > :21:43.couple of months. You see the resilience under David Moyes at

:21:44. > :21:48.Sunderland? I think recently we have seen the David Moyes of Everton and

:21:49. > :21:50.Preston, rather than the slightly defeatist, coward figure at

:21:51. > :21:57.Manchester United, and at encouraging. Because he's a battler,

:21:58. > :22:05.he's a tough individual. If they get the Everton Meuse, then they have

:22:06. > :22:11.got a chance. They definitely need to invest, however, in January. We

:22:12. > :22:15.will move on to me today's games now. At four o'clock, Tottenham play

:22:16. > :22:19.Burnley. Natalie Pirks spoke earlier in the week to Dele Alli about the

:22:20. > :22:34.influence of his manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

:22:35. > :22:39.Yes, he's been massive for me. When I left Milton Keynes I was looking

:22:40. > :22:43.for a manager with the same kind of philosophy, the same way he puts

:22:44. > :22:54.trust in kids. And I can see that in him. He has been a massive part of

:22:55. > :23:00.my Premier League career so far. He's a decent player as well, isn't

:23:01. > :23:07.he? Does he get involved in training with you guys? We have this thing

:23:08. > :23:11.called boxes, I think a lot of teams to it, and he gets involved in that,

:23:12. > :23:16.but I don't know why he does not get involved in any of the ones that

:23:17. > :23:21.need some running! Tell us about the song Spurs fans sing about you. You

:23:22. > :23:35.know the one I'm talking about. I know, but I'm not going to sing it.

:23:36. > :23:47.I think it's like, we've got Alli... Dele Alli... I just don't think you

:23:48. > :23:54.understand... He only cost five mill, he's better than Ozil... So

:23:55. > :23:59.obviously you only cost five mill, but are you better than Mesut Ozil?

:24:00. > :24:05.That's not for me to decide. He said he wasn't going to sing! Elliot Lee,

:24:06. > :24:11.I think you know him quite well, Henry - how important has Pochettino

:24:12. > :24:14.been in his development? It has been great seeing his developer and under

:24:15. > :24:19.Karl Robinson at MK Dons. I was in the office one day and this kid just

:24:20. > :24:23.walked in, and he said a few words, and he was very polite and confident

:24:24. > :24:30.and wandered off. Karl Robinson just said, this kid is going straight to

:24:31. > :24:35.the top. He's obviously doing well under Pochettino. This comparison

:24:36. > :24:38.with Mesut Ozil, I mean, come on, let's have a bit of feet on the

:24:39. > :24:42.ground. Mahsoob Ozil is a special player. Dele Alli obviously is

:24:43. > :24:53.reaching for the stars, but it will take time for him. He is a special

:24:54. > :24:56.player but don't get involved in, I am better than Ozil. But he is a

:24:57. > :25:02.special talent. It has not been quite so serene for him this season.

:25:03. > :25:06.There's been accusations of diving, a dip in form - how do you view how

:25:07. > :25:12.he has handled the situation? I think with only four goals this

:25:13. > :25:17.season, obviously, we are expecting more from him in terms of goals. But

:25:18. > :25:23.I think we forget that he's very young, and it's his second season

:25:24. > :25:29.after a lot of noise about him. Lot of talk. This is something which

:25:30. > :25:34.happens to young players. I think it is the same for Ross Barkley, he had

:25:35. > :25:37.a great season and then a quiet season. I think we need to

:25:38. > :25:42.understand that this is a young player, and he's got his feet on the

:25:43. > :25:46.ground, but he's not going to be amazing every single season. But I

:25:47. > :25:50.think he has got a good head on his shoulders, comes across really well

:25:51. > :25:56.and understands his responsible at ease as Tottenham player. There

:25:57. > :25:59.seems to be a maturity. And last season was his breakthrough season,

:26:00. > :26:04.and he was exceptional. Nobody expected him to be as good as he

:26:05. > :26:08.was. Even if he gets ten goals this season, for a midfielder, that's

:26:09. > :26:13.pretty outstanding. That is not a bad return, and we are not even at

:26:14. > :26:18.Christmas, he's got four over-egged. Every chance he will get ten. He's

:26:19. > :26:22.just got to keep working hard. That's what I like about him, he

:26:23. > :26:29.does work hard. He has an influence on the game even if he's not scoring

:26:30. > :26:31.goals. You see the amount of running he gets through, closing down,

:26:32. > :26:37.putting tackles in, see that sort of thing. There is more to his game

:26:38. > :26:47.than just the goals. Of course they're a huge bonus. But I mean,

:26:48. > :26:53.Ozil has won World Cups! That is not for him to say! Is he better? Not

:26:54. > :27:00.yes,. Of course not. Potential? Potentially. He's a completely

:27:01. > :27:05.different player. Dele Alli is almost the old-fashioned English

:27:06. > :27:11.midfielder - box to box, happy to put his foot in, can score goals.

:27:12. > :27:15.And that's what I like about him. There's not one part of his game you

:27:16. > :27:21.look at and think I'm a that's a real weakness. Of course, there are

:27:22. > :27:26.things which he can work on. With Ozil, maybe it would be tracking

:27:27. > :27:29.back. Dele Alli has all of those facets. As he gets better and

:27:30. > :27:35.better, I think he will eventually become a complete midfielder. That's

:27:36. > :27:38.later on this afternoon. The early kick-off today is Bournemouth

:27:39. > :27:42.against Southampton, and we can now get the team news from Alistair

:27:43. > :27:45.Mann. Bournemouth only make one change, with Callum Wilson coming in

:27:46. > :27:52.up front in place of Benik Afobe. Southampton played on Wednesday, and

:27:53. > :27:57.they make six changes. Ishida is in, Cedric is back, Harry Reid makes his

:27:58. > :28:12.first start of the season. Rodriguez also comes in. Goal of the

:28:13. > :28:18.That was of course Simon Madden and not Alistair Mann.

:28:19. > :28:21.On 5 Live tomorrow night - commentary on the Merseyside derby.

:28:22. > :28:38.I love derbies. I have a lot in my life. Of course, when you are in

:28:39. > :28:47.Germany, and you have the big derby with Dortmund, against Bayern. So I

:28:48. > :28:51.know how it feels and I am really looking forward to it. If you win,

:28:52. > :28:58.everything is good, but of causes you a lot of problems when you lose

:28:59. > :29:06.it. Its pressure, of course, but we all love it, we want the loud

:29:07. > :29:12.stadium, we want the emotional crowd, all that stuff. Most of them

:29:13. > :29:17.will probably be on the Everton side, but that is no problem. It's

:29:18. > :29:23.still loud, but our job is to make Goodison Park as quiet as possible.

:29:24. > :29:28.Dealing with pressure, it is not so different to the normal life. It was

:29:29. > :29:31.being as good prepared as possible. It is not about ignoring the

:29:32. > :29:35.circumstances, it is about using them. We have spoken a little bit in

:29:36. > :29:42.the last few weeks about this kind of being angry, but in a sports way

:29:43. > :29:46.angry. We do not have to talk too much about motivation for something

:29:47. > :29:49.like this, but it's clear they are full of motivation. So it is really

:29:50. > :29:57.more about doing the right thing in the right moment. In a very

:29:58. > :30:01.emotional atmosphere. Jurgen Klopp loves a derby. Everybody does! Let's

:30:02. > :30:06.start with Ronald Koeman's claimed that this is bigger than El Clasico.

:30:07. > :30:14.Can he say that? No! On Merseyside, maybe! The Merseyside derby is huge

:30:15. > :30:19.but it does not always define the title race. Whereas El Clasico,

:30:20. > :30:26.Ronald Koeman scored some great goals in El Clasico, and back often

:30:27. > :30:29.decides the Spanish league. I think what is great about the Merseyside

:30:30. > :30:36.derby is, if very rarely lets us down. We get derbies in London,

:30:37. > :30:42.whatever, or Manchester, and sometimes they are a bit dull. The

:30:43. > :30:47.Merseyside derby is always cut and thrust, there will be cards, there

:30:48. > :30:50.will be plenty of passion, the atmosphere is always unbelievable.

:30:51. > :30:57.And it generally it is a fantastic game to watch.

:30:58. > :31:02.It has the same importance to the Liverpool and Everton fans, that

:31:03. > :31:06.anticipation and how he never lets us down with that game. It is

:31:07. > :31:10.probably an important game for both of the teams at this stage in the

:31:11. > :31:14.season, especially Liverpool. Chasing Chelsea at the top... And El

:31:15. > :31:23.Clasico has a political and historical element. The derbies in

:31:24. > :31:27.this country do not. But El Clasico is not a derby. The whole city is

:31:28. > :31:32.focused on this one game at Goodison Park. And Jurgen Klopp would like to

:31:33. > :31:37.make it quiet but he may have to use youngsters? There are some injury

:31:38. > :31:44.problems? Yes, but I was at Goodison Park the other night for the Arsenal

:31:45. > :31:47.game. It was just one of those great, great and noisy occasions.

:31:48. > :31:52.But we are tinged with some sadness because at some point they had to

:31:53. > :31:57.move on from there. The clock is counting down as to how many derbies

:31:58. > :32:01.will be left there. I guarantee that it would be raucous. There are a few

:32:02. > :32:06.youngsters who Jurgen Klopp would have to put his faith in. How

:32:07. > :32:10.difficult is it for the younger players? We will talk about this

:32:11. > :32:13.goalkeeper situation but they take a lot of criticism? Those young

:32:14. > :32:18.players. We spoke about Ross Barkley and Dele Alli. Is it a difficult

:32:19. > :32:24.time to be a young player? No, it is what you are used to. When I broke

:32:25. > :32:29.into this senior football, 15, 16, and played on the reserve teams,

:32:30. > :32:34.players and coaches DQ world and you are getting ready for that

:32:35. > :32:45.preparation. -- date you out. People ask, what is it like playing in

:32:46. > :32:49.front of 40,000 fans -- dig you out. It is that growing process and the

:32:50. > :32:53.mental challenges for young footballers. There are a lot of

:32:54. > :32:58.players with a lot of skill and potential out there, but it is how

:32:59. > :33:01.tough can they be mentally? Can they handle the occasion, the criticism,

:33:02. > :33:05.reading the papers and reading bad stuff or not. However they choose to

:33:06. > :33:09.do it, it is handling the mental side of the game. They all have

:33:10. > :33:13.ability. It is how they deal with the big occasions. Players these

:33:14. > :33:17.days, it should not be a problem for them. The best young players do not

:33:18. > :33:22.think about it but see it as an opportunity to show what they can

:33:23. > :33:28.do. You look at Wayne Rooney when he made his debut at age 16. He did not

:33:29. > :33:33.care that he was in front of 50,000 plus people. That's natural

:33:34. > :33:37.ability... It is a buzz, not a fear. Senior players, as we say with

:33:38. > :33:42.England, Henry, often it becomes a fear. It's about what young players

:33:43. > :33:45.do. It is that adrenaline rush that you get from being in that

:33:46. > :33:51.environment. It is massive. But you are right, in one of Steven

:33:52. > :33:56.Gerrard's first games for Liverpool, he was sent off twice, I think, in

:33:57. > :34:02.the Merseyside derby. They have to have some ice in their veins as

:34:03. > :34:10.well. We touched on carriers. How do you view the situation? Mignolet

:34:11. > :34:17.will start, how is it reviewed by the player himself -- Karius. It is

:34:18. > :34:22.unlike us to wrap things up in the media! Actually, I have an element

:34:23. > :34:25.of sympathy for Karius. He came out and he could have pulled that

:34:26. > :34:29.interview in the Daily Mail and said, I do not want to do this at

:34:30. > :34:33.the moment. He answered questions. That is all we can ask for as

:34:34. > :34:38.journalists. They come up with honest answers. Gary Neville reacted

:34:39. > :34:43.to it, but Gary Neville, throughout his career, you knew him well,

:34:44. > :34:47.whenever you spoke to him, you got an honest answer. I think we can be

:34:48. > :34:52.oversensitive in this country, as a media. If a player wants to talk and

:34:53. > :34:56.say particular things, fantastic. The person who comes out best is

:34:57. > :35:00.Jurgen Klopp. He has made a decision, away from all of the

:35:01. > :35:05.noise, not reacting to the media or Gary Neville, he's made a decision

:35:06. > :35:09.he thinks is best. We moan so often about players after games, their

:35:10. > :35:18.interviews are planned... The same thing time and time again. We wonder

:35:19. > :35:21.why. Gary has come out and said his piece... I do not think it was

:35:22. > :35:25.particularly sensationalised. I do not think the Daily Mail did. It was

:35:26. > :35:30.a thoughtful interview. With Gary Neville getting it

:35:31. > :35:38.Involved... Then Phil Neville jumped in, more was made bit than people...

:35:39. > :35:42.Social media is not the most sane of debating chambers! But, it is the

:35:43. > :35:49.biggest. I think that the goalkeeper position is always tricky. Only one

:35:50. > :35:58.player can play. Usually, that player plays throughout the season.

:35:59. > :36:04.I remember at Chelsea, Cortois came in. It's a difficult situation, at

:36:05. > :36:08.the time he had two top keepers. It is sensitive, when goalkeepers are

:36:09. > :36:14.dropped, the second comes in... It is a sensitive situation. It is such

:36:15. > :36:19.a specialist position. In the past, there was always a definite number

:36:20. > :36:25.one, a number two, and now it is close. We don't know who number one

:36:26. > :36:32.is. Who is it? We don't know. Cortois is very even. There is not

:36:33. > :36:34.this distinction, but we never number two.

:36:35. > :36:38.Cortois and Petr Cech. The moment that someone is left out, it becomes

:36:39. > :36:43.headline news. It happened with Joe Hart. There is a certain number one

:36:44. > :36:48.at Manchester United. Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He has been on

:36:49. > :36:51.sensational form. He scored twice yesterday when

:36:52. > :36:52.Manchester United won. Let's

:36:53. > :37:00.hear from, his manager. I am so pleased for him. He is the kind of

:37:01. > :37:05.player who does not have to prove anything to anyone. When he comes to

:37:06. > :37:09.England in that period of his career, to come to the most

:37:10. > :37:15.difficult championship in the world. To come in the later period... I

:37:16. > :37:24.think it is proof that he a super man in his mentality. He is doing

:37:25. > :37:29.fantastic work. At age 35, it is a dream for any one of 25, a striker

:37:30. > :37:34.at the age of 25, to the Premier League and impress how he is doing.

:37:35. > :37:39.How impressed have you been as a fellow striker, at the ripe young

:37:40. > :37:41.age of 35 with Zlatan Ibrahimovic? I was very impressed, there was a lot

:37:42. > :37:46.of doubt with him coming into the Premier League. People said

:37:47. > :37:50.that he was too static and a big personality in the dressing room.

:37:51. > :37:55.But it is proof that class is permanent and age is just a number

:37:56. > :37:58.for him. With 16 goals in all competitions, he is the Talisman,

:37:59. > :38:06.and as Jose Mourinho said, he is unstoppable. Other players for

:38:07. > :38:09.Manchester United need to chip in. In the event that Ibrahimovic does

:38:10. > :38:13.not score, they have a problem. Wayne Rooney has two chip in,

:38:14. > :38:20.Martial, Marcus Rashford... I have been very impressed. He is a good

:38:21. > :38:24.player around the dressing room as well. Players appear to like him. I

:38:25. > :38:28.think people did not expect that. They expected this godlike figure to

:38:29. > :38:34.come in and ruled the roost. That is key that you make that point,

:38:35. > :38:38.anybody expecting slattern Ibrahimovic to be, I'm the best, you

:38:39. > :38:44.are not worthy... But Jose Mourinho before, they have had a good

:38:45. > :38:47.relationship. Ancelotti loves him. Everyone says he works so hard in

:38:48. > :38:51.training, one of the hardest workers. He would like to win

:38:52. > :38:56.everything, no matter what. Win at all costs. Running is not

:38:57. > :39:01.everybody's game. It does not matter if he loses a yard of pace. He is an

:39:02. > :39:05.droppable at the moment. Jose Mourinho has always had a

:39:06. > :39:08.Talisman striker. At any club he has been at. He has a go to guide.

:39:09. > :39:29.Whether it is drop, Costa. Now it is Zlatan Ibrahimovic -- -- he has a go

:39:30. > :39:36.to guy, whether it is Drogba. At the 21st, there was this Ryan Shawcross

:39:37. > :39:38.Memorial game, outstanding at Stockholm you got those four goals

:39:39. > :39:43.with the overhead kick. It is brilliant to see him here.

:39:44. > :39:48.With the lack of stardust on the pitch, it is in the dugout, the real

:39:49. > :39:51.stars in Bayern Munich and Barcelona and Real Madrid...

:39:52. > :39:55.To have him, one of the true icons of the game, that is great. Ask any

:39:56. > :40:00.defender, many would say, I would rather play against him than a

:40:01. > :40:06.Cuero, he is static. -- Sergio Aguero.

:40:07. > :40:08.But that goal yesterday, it was a typical Manchester United goal,

:40:09. > :40:12.straight over to Jesse Lingard, straight in.

:40:13. > :40:16.Head goal. He scores a variety of goals. He has

:40:17. > :40:22.surprised people with his righty in the way that he campaign and how he

:40:23. > :40:23.has adapted to English football -- variety.

:40:24. > :40:28.At Manchester City, they host Arsenal today... An interesting

:40:29. > :40:33.piece has been written by Glenn Hoddle in the mail on Sunday.

:40:34. > :40:36.He is talking about Pep Guardiola. When he came to England, I said that

:40:37. > :40:41.this would be his biggest test and he would have too adapt to our game.

:40:42. > :40:48.At the moment I am watching football subside. That is a strong word --

:40:49. > :40:51.football suicide. It is interesting coming from Glenn Hoddle, I would

:40:52. > :40:56.have thought he would have echoed Pep Guardiola's philosophy with

:40:57. > :41:02.playing football from the back. He did it at Chelsea himself.

:41:03. > :41:06.Football suicide is a bit strong. And slightly underestimate the fact

:41:07. > :41:11.that this is one of the most intelligent coaches, and one of the

:41:12. > :41:18.most successful. He will adapt, you know their pitfalls and ambushes.

:41:19. > :41:21.He will respond. I do not like this that Pep Guardiola is struggling a

:41:22. > :41:26.bit. He is one of the greatest coaches. We need him at Saint

:41:27. > :41:30.Georges Park, speaking to our younger coaches and educating as. He

:41:31. > :41:35.has had some problems but will get it right. Some of that couple I saw

:41:36. > :41:39.from Manchester City was some of the best at the Premier League since the

:41:40. > :41:46.invincible is. He is having issues defensively. He does not know his

:41:47. > :41:51.best team. It is not squad rotation at Manchester City, but I am going

:41:52. > :41:55.to change it for the sake of change. Over 50 to the starting line-up

:41:56. > :42:00.already. That causes a lot of problems. Kolarov at centre-half,
