:00:30. > :00:35.Hello and welcome to MOTD2 Extra on BBC Two and BBC Sport website.
:00:36. > :00:42.Joining me, the former England and Arsenal defender, Matt Upson, Phil
:00:43. > :00:49.Bardsley and Shaun Custis, head of sport at Sutton. We would love you
:00:50. > :00:52.to get involved, use the hash tag #bbcfootball on social media and you
:00:53. > :01:01.can text us on 85058. Coming up, yesterday's goals as Chelsea beat
:01:02. > :01:04.Spurs. Who will they face? We look ahead to Arsenal against Manchester
:01:05. > :01:11.City. Hull beat Watford, six wins out of seven under Marco Silva. They
:01:12. > :01:17.boost their hopes of Prem league survival. Swansea beat Stoke to end
:01:18. > :01:25.a six match winless run. In the papers, the Express, record bid for
:01:26. > :01:36.Monaco starlet. In the Sun, Antonio Conte's big risk pays off. The Times
:01:37. > :01:43.has double vision and a story about Manchester United's Zlatan
:01:44. > :01:44.Ibrahimovic's career could be over. Quite a semifinal at Wembley, wasn't
:01:45. > :01:55.it? Hugo Lloris on his toes. Willian
:01:56. > :02:04.scores for Chelsea! Christian Eriksen. Good ball. Little flick on.
:02:05. > :02:08.It is in the net! Harry Kane, who else?
:02:09. > :02:26.Penalty. He has given it. Willian to put Chelsea in front. And he does!
:02:27. > :02:34.That is a delightful ball. What a great goal. Dele Alli scores it but
:02:35. > :02:38.Christian Eriksen makes it with one of the assists of the season. In
:02:39. > :02:44.goes the corner kick. It is dangerous. It is Eden Hazard and it
:02:45. > :02:57.is in! Eden Hazard scores for Chelsea! Eden Hazard for Chelsea.
:02:58. > :03:07.Cesc Fabregas onside. Still Eden Hazard. Brilliant goal! The Man U
:03:08. > :03:12.matter which hammers Chelsea to within touching distance of the FA
:03:13. > :03:19.Cup final itself -- Nemanja Matic. That goal is ludicrous. Five shots
:03:20. > :03:25.on target. Four goals. You were at Wembley. It was a pleasure to be
:03:26. > :03:29.there. Fantastic atmosphere which you always get with semifinals at
:03:30. > :03:34.Wembley, you get a bigger allocation for the fans. Chelsea answered some
:03:35. > :03:39.questions yesterday. April were beginning to doubt them. Spurs
:03:40. > :03:42.answered other questions, are they the real deal? -- people were
:03:43. > :03:49.beginning to doubt them. Spurs said they could put pressure on Chelsea
:03:50. > :03:53.psychologically if they won. It has been a hammer blow for Spurs. With
:03:54. > :04:00.Chelsea, the one thing Antonio Conte has done is he has put trust in
:04:01. > :04:04.other players around the starting XI which has served him so well this
:04:05. > :04:08.season. Chelsea walk away from that game knowing that the manager trusts
:04:09. > :04:12.the whole squad and he can structure the team and bring players on and
:04:13. > :04:17.leave players out of the team and still get a great result. He would
:04:18. > :04:21.have been slaughtered if it had gone wrong, leaving Eden Hazard and Diego
:04:22. > :04:31.Costa on the bench. Absolutely. The players they have got... Willian,
:04:32. > :04:35.Pedro. I think obviously leaving Diego Costa and Eden Hazard out goes
:04:36. > :04:41.to show the strength and depth of the squad. They have come to the
:04:42. > :04:46.fore and as a defender myself, 75 minutes, 70 minutes, seeing Eden
:04:47. > :04:53.Hazard about to come on, your worst nightmare. What is that like?
:04:54. > :04:59.Normally he starts the game you can engage with him early doors. Coming
:05:00. > :05:04.off the bench, fresh, raring to go, semifinal of the cup, he is there to
:05:05. > :05:09.make a statement and he did that. Eden Hazard was rested but Diego
:05:10. > :05:13.Costa was dropped. Two big players. Questions about Diego Costa go on.
:05:14. > :05:17.They are fed up with him, the constant courting of the move. It
:05:18. > :05:23.has been happening again this season. Is he fully focused on the
:05:24. > :05:28.job? Eden Hazard is fully focused. When you see him come on, that must
:05:29. > :05:32.have made Spurs thing, we are almost out on our feet, we have fought
:05:33. > :05:36.hard, we have had the possession, a player like him comes on... I
:05:37. > :05:41.thought Diego Costa was pretty good when he came on. He roughed them up.
:05:42. > :05:49.But Eden Hazard made the 10% difference. With Diego Costa, he is
:05:50. > :05:52.on the verge of maybe winning the FA Cup, Premier League, you can
:05:53. > :06:00.understand why his head would be turned up about or cash! Come on,
:06:01. > :06:06.Phil. Winning trophies is what it is all about. Look at his age and the
:06:07. > :06:10.stage of his career, to make that decision about money now is a big
:06:11. > :06:14.call because you look back and say, you look at the real achievements in
:06:15. > :06:18.your life of what football brings, it is the title winning teams,
:06:19. > :06:24.winning trophies. It must be the biggest reward as a player. Oscar
:06:25. > :06:29.has gone to China. They are being picked by Brazil. For them, the
:06:30. > :06:36.foreign players, maybe it isn't such a big deal to go to China. I do not
:06:37. > :06:45.look at Oscar being the main man at Chelsea. Diego Costa is one of the
:06:46. > :06:50.main men. Maybe they have got their eyes on other strikers. Tottenham,
:06:51. > :06:53.we talk about the old Spurs having gone, but some might say they
:06:54. > :06:57.fluffed the Premier League last season and this was a chance of a
:06:58. > :07:00.trophy and they might not win the Premier League this season. They did
:07:01. > :07:06.not play that badly yesterday, they were a bit unlucky at times. I do
:07:07. > :07:11.think confidence wise they will be wondering, have they got it? Big
:07:12. > :07:14.test this summer, will they invest? They seem reluctant because of the
:07:15. > :07:20.way they did it a few years ago, spent money, did not work. You have
:07:21. > :07:23.the building of the stadium. We do not see Tottenham associated with
:07:24. > :07:27.the big names around Europe. Whenever we say, Man United, going
:07:28. > :07:32.for a certain player, Chelsea, Arsenal. You do not hear Spurs being
:07:33. > :07:37.mentioned as a club who will battle for the big names. The point you
:07:38. > :07:41.make with the stadium is valid because any club that has such a
:07:42. > :07:46.huge project happening as Spurs have with the stadium, they will have a
:07:47. > :07:49.season of just consolidating and keeping together. Arsenal were very
:07:50. > :07:53.similar when they moved out of Highbury to the Emirates. They had a
:07:54. > :07:58.season or two when the team consolidates and stays as it is.
:07:59. > :08:01.Mauricio Pochettino will be very disappointed with yesterday because
:08:02. > :08:05.they dominated huge periods of the game especially before the penalty
:08:06. > :08:09.that was given away, I do not think Chelsea were barely in the final
:08:10. > :08:14.third for 20 minutes. They were controlling the midfield. It was
:08:15. > :08:18.just mistakes for Tottenham. Hugo Lloris on the free kick will be
:08:19. > :08:22.disappointed with his position. He had a slight shift to the right. He
:08:23. > :08:28.would have expected to save that. The penalty was a striker playing at
:08:29. > :08:32.wingback, really. The new stadium, what about the one in between? They
:08:33. > :08:38.potentially have to play next season at Wembley. They have to decide
:08:39. > :08:42.soon. They have lost seven FA Cup semifinals there. It is tough,
:08:43. > :08:49.especially leaving your ground for a season. Do you have that in certain
:08:50. > :08:54.grounds, you cannot explain it, something does not click? Yeah, but
:08:55. > :08:58.you have to buy into it and the biggest problem Mauricio Pochettino
:08:59. > :09:04.has is keeping the top players. Some of the big boys come calling in the
:09:05. > :09:10.summer, I think he will possibly lose a couple. You have got to start
:09:11. > :09:19.to look at Tottenham as a big boy. The last two leagues, pushing to win
:09:20. > :09:25.the title. Total respect but I think Dele Alli and speculation about Kyle
:09:26. > :09:34.Walker being unhappy. It comes back to money. If they will not paid the
:09:35. > :09:42.money other clubs will be prepared to pay. If the finances work
:09:43. > :09:45.themselves out, they will be in a position to buy new players. If you
:09:46. > :09:51.were Dele Alli, you might make the right noises, but if Barcelona or
:09:52. > :09:55.Real Madrid comes knocking, it is difficult to turn down, even though
:09:56. > :10:00.he is young. The supporters are really pleased with the club. If you
:10:01. > :10:03.were a Tottenham fan, you would be really impressed with what direction
:10:04. > :10:12.the club is going in. A lot of young English talent. I think as a
:10:13. > :10:18.supporter, it is a great club. For me, watching, they are the best to
:10:19. > :10:22.watch on the eye and playing against them, we have had four stuck past
:10:23. > :10:27.us. They have obviously got terrific English talent and that is what is
:10:28. > :10:31.catching the eye of a lot of people. Dele Alli, you have played against
:10:32. > :10:37.him this season, what is so impressive? He takes you into areas
:10:38. > :10:41.that as a defender you do not want to go into. He sucks you in deep. He
:10:42. > :10:45.does not want you around him tackling him. He will take you
:10:46. > :10:49.places where he can get freedom and turn. I really like the runs he
:10:50. > :10:56.makes into the box, late runs, not marked. He creates space as top
:10:57. > :11:02.players do. He just keeps doing that. It was highlighted yesterday,
:11:03. > :11:09.his goal, it is just... He reminds me of Paul Scholes. His desire to
:11:10. > :11:15.get there. He is level between two defenders. He makes it into the box
:11:16. > :11:18.and puts the finish in. The intelligence and he plays with
:11:19. > :11:23.freedom and desire of a young player that has nothing to fear. They are a
:11:24. > :11:29.very close-knit group. I do not want to bang on about it, but if they
:11:30. > :11:32.lose one, it upsets it. Christian Eriksen, an integral part of the
:11:33. > :11:41.team. They are coming together as a unit. You lose one vital cog and it
:11:42. > :11:46.makes them vulnerable. Dele Alli absolutely key to the project, the
:11:47. > :11:52.manager, risking Ericsson, there are a few parts, if one were to fall
:11:53. > :11:56.away, who knows what the future would be -- Christian Eriksen. I am
:11:57. > :12:00.sure the manage and club are where. We talk about Tottenham being big
:12:01. > :12:06.maybe the only thing they are short of is the wage structure compared to
:12:07. > :12:11.Man City, united, Chelsea. It is on a different level. That is the only
:12:12. > :12:16.reason possibly why players would not want to stay. That is possibly
:12:17. > :12:21.why they are going to a new stadium to try to generate that. Wait and
:12:22. > :12:27.see. Arsenal against Manchester City shortly. A couple of big derbies are
:12:28. > :12:33.ready. Celtic against Rangers in the semifinal of the Scottish Cup. The
:12:34. > :12:36.latest from Andy Gillies. It is Celtic 1-0 Rangers. Fantastic goals
:12:37. > :12:40.in the semifinals this weekend already and we have seen a really
:12:41. > :12:45.good one here as well. Long ball forward from Celtic that found
:12:46. > :12:49.Moussa Dembele with terrific control initially and the vision to lay it
:12:50. > :12:54.back to Callum McGregor who passed the ball into the back of the net
:12:55. > :12:59.from 25 yards. Terrific goal. Celtic absolutely dominant. Rangers
:13:00. > :13:03.struggling to lay a glove on them. They have not created and a pigeon
:13:04. > :13:11.idiot. At the moment Celtic heading for the final with Aberdeen. -- they
:13:12. > :13:16.have not created an opportunity. Harry Redknapp, first game in charge
:13:17. > :13:23.against Aston Villa. In Birmingham. Ian Stringer? 27 minutes gone,
:13:24. > :13:28.taking it in his stride. The visitors deserve a lot of credit. He
:13:29. > :13:33.has played three at the back. Aston Villa trying to exploit the hole
:13:34. > :13:39.with Jack Grealish. Birmingham holding their own. You would not be
:13:40. > :13:49.able... Chance in the tent minute, pantomime villain, could not get the
:13:50. > :13:51.cross in. 27 minutes gone, 0-0. Former Birmingham player. How
:13:52. > :13:55.shocked are you to see them struggling to stay in the
:13:56. > :14:00.Championship? It has been a real surprise. They were stable under
:14:01. > :14:05.Gary Rowlett who did a good job. Seventh when they sacked him. Great
:14:06. > :14:13.position for them. Having worked with Gianfranco Zola. I can imagine
:14:14. > :14:18.why you would employ him, I enjoyed working with him as a player, but it
:14:19. > :14:22.went wrong. They are scrapping for survival in the Championship. It is
:14:23. > :14:26.a huge turnaround. This fixture might be great for them, difficult,
:14:27. > :14:30.but I have played in this fixture and it is a feisty occasion.
:14:31. > :14:36.Sometimes that can bring the team together. Harry Redknapp, he will
:14:37. > :14:42.not get bored at this! 70. He loves it. He has been itching to get back.
:14:43. > :14:45.You hear him on TV and you read his columns in the Standard, you know
:14:46. > :14:49.that if he had a sniff of a chance to come back, he wants to keep
:14:50. > :14:53.managing forever. Turning our attentions to the bottom of the
:14:54. > :14:58.Premier League, Swansea's win over Stoke. Sorry, Phil. Do you see in
:14:59. > :15:05.the Swansea side enough that they think they can stay in the Premier
:15:06. > :15:10.League? Disappointing day for us yesterday off the back of a good
:15:11. > :15:14.result against Hall at home, to go into the game, confident, playing
:15:15. > :15:23.decent stuff, just didn't turn up on the day. Credit to Swansea, they
:15:24. > :15:29.laid down the marker early doors, got some good tackles in, and
:15:30. > :15:36.unfortunately we couldn't get into the game. Leon Britton, the return
:15:37. > :15:42.of him, he is everything involving Swansea. To come back at this stage
:15:43. > :15:47.of the season for them. He played terrific yesterday, sat in the
:15:48. > :15:54.middle of midfield, he makes them tick. I'm surprised he hasn't played
:15:55. > :15:57.more this year, I'm sure he will be disappointed. On the back of a
:15:58. > :16:00.performance yesterday I'm sure he will be in the team. First
:16:01. > :16:04.appearance for Leon Britton since New Year's Eve. In these relegation
:16:05. > :16:10.battle is how crucial is it to have experience like that at the crucial
:16:11. > :16:14.time? It is huge, and he is passionate about the football club,
:16:15. > :16:18.Leon Britton. Whenever I see him talk about Swansea he loves the
:16:19. > :16:21.club, and that goes a long way in this position because you can
:16:22. > :16:24.technically get it right, you can tactically get it right but
:16:25. > :16:27.ultimately what keeps you in the Premier League at this stage are
:16:28. > :16:31.players like that who are willing to go the extra yard, the extra mile
:16:32. > :16:35.for the club and the more of those you your team it gives you a huge
:16:36. > :16:38.chance to survive. I'm sure he would never admit this but the motivation
:16:39. > :16:43.for Swansea must have been bigger, they knew it was a must win game for
:16:44. > :16:48.them, they had to do it. However you argue it, Stoke are in comfortable
:16:49. > :16:52.mid-table. And for Swansea it was a must, it had to happen, everybody
:16:53. > :16:56.had to be on their game and it looked like they were yesterday and
:16:57. > :17:01.they live to fight another day. It was a bold approach from Paul
:17:02. > :17:05.Clement, playing with Llorente and Ayew upfront. Yes, we knew it would
:17:06. > :17:10.be tough, Llorente is a big strong boy and Ayew has a point to prove
:17:11. > :17:14.coming in in January. They played well together to be perfectly
:17:15. > :17:21.honest. They caused us problems all day. A lot of focus on Llorente.
:17:22. > :17:26.Yes, as I say, he is a big strong boy, they can mix up their play,
:17:27. > :17:29.they can go direct into him, or they can play through Leon Britton and
:17:30. > :17:34.Sigurdsson who was very good yesterday as well. On the whole for
:17:35. > :17:39.us it was a disappointing result, as we thought it was a great chance for
:17:40. > :17:43.us to get back in the top ten and push on. But it wasn't to be and
:17:44. > :17:45.hopefully we can dust ourselves off and go again next week. Paul Clement
:17:46. > :17:49.really wants to prove himself as a manager in the Premier League. He's
:17:50. > :17:53.done very well as a coach, Derby, not sure why he had to leave Derby,
:17:54. > :17:59.but he did and this is his big test and you could tell by the way he was
:18:00. > :18:02.talking this week that he was desperate to get them back on track,
:18:03. > :18:05.desperate to show he can match any of the other Premier League
:18:06. > :18:09.managers. He's a proud man. That will be as big a win for him as it
:18:10. > :18:15.is for the players. And for as we knew going to Swansea they were
:18:16. > :18:21.fighting for their lives so you have two come out fighting straightaway
:18:22. > :18:24.and we didn't do that yesterday. That was disappointing. Swansea go
:18:25. > :18:29.to Manchester United next, Everton at home, Sunderland away, West Brom
:18:30. > :18:34.at home, in that battle with Hull, I was at the KCOM yesterday, 2-0
:18:35. > :18:40.winners over Watford. They went down to ten men, Hull, after 25 minutes,
:18:41. > :18:45.Oumar Niasse it sent off. Let's chat to Michael Dawson, the Hull Captain.
:18:46. > :18:48.Good afternoon, guys. The significance of winning the game
:18:49. > :18:52.when you are down to ten men, what will that do for your confidence and
:18:53. > :18:56.togetherness in this battle? I think we have shown an awful lot of that
:18:57. > :19:02.since Christmas, since the manager came in. That is credit to him. We
:19:03. > :19:06.have a squad together that we believe capable of staying in the
:19:07. > :19:10.Premier League and our home form is vital. The record that we have had
:19:11. > :19:15.since Christmas has been second to none, it's been incredible. It was
:19:16. > :19:19.about winning our home games fourth of yesterday was a game that we
:19:20. > :19:26.looked at having to win. Going down to ten men after 25 minutes, that
:19:27. > :19:29.shows the character and togetherness. I don't believe it was
:19:30. > :19:38.a red card and Oumar was gutted when he got a red, when we started the
:19:39. > :19:44.game we were on top. To go down to ten men, we were under a lot of
:19:45. > :19:48.pressure but we stood strong and the two goals in the second half, it was
:19:49. > :19:53.thoroughly deserved and credit to the lads because they worked their
:19:54. > :19:58.socks off. We talked about Marco Silva, we have picked him up on 5
:19:59. > :20:03.live Xtra all season. How quickly has he moulded you together and how
:20:04. > :20:09.impressed have you been? Incredibly well. He is a guy who is thorough,
:20:10. > :20:13.everything he does, there is nothing uncovered on the training ground
:20:14. > :20:17.going into the games. You are prepared. He sets you up and if you
:20:18. > :20:21.are not doing your job you certainly know about it. He has set the
:20:22. > :20:24.standards, as players we know on the training pitch Monday to Friday he
:20:25. > :20:29.expects a performance because if you don't you will be out of the team.
:20:30. > :20:33.He makes big decisions. He is a ruthless guy and to be a top manager
:20:34. > :20:37.that is what you have to be, and to be successful. So credit to him and
:20:38. > :20:40.hopefully we can keep doing what we are doing and stay out of the bottom
:20:41. > :20:44.three come the end of the day. In those situations, I spoke to Marco
:20:45. > :20:48.Silva after the game and he said he would appeal it because it was never
:20:49. > :20:52.a red card from Bobby Madley on the Oumar Niasse. On those situations do
:20:53. > :20:58.you either double your workrate or lose the game? That is what showed,
:20:59. > :21:01.and a half-time, I knew at that time, thinking he hasn't left the
:21:02. > :21:11.ground, all right, he has caught him. You look at it and I know
:21:12. > :21:15.tackles happen and people take off, this isn't being biased because I am
:21:16. > :21:19.a Hull player, that is not a red card. We don't want to take tackling
:21:20. > :21:23.out and it was such a big decision with things riding on the game that
:21:24. > :21:29.it riled us up and got the fans going and thankfully it didn't
:21:30. > :21:32.affect the result. I understand how hard it is for referees but they are
:21:33. > :21:36.big decisions and when you are down there, we didn't get it yesterday,
:21:37. > :21:41.we got the three points which was the most important thing. Finally,
:21:42. > :21:47.Michael, maybe still perhaps a bit of ill feeling from the fans towards
:21:48. > :21:54.the owner etc, etc. But the atmosphere unquestionable. Yes, we
:21:55. > :22:01.need that, we need the place to be rocking. Not just at Hull, but what
:22:02. > :22:06.he did at his previous clubs, his home records have been amazing and
:22:07. > :22:13.we need to state in the Premier League. After the first 15 minutes
:22:14. > :22:16.we were disappointed not to get something out of the game and 15
:22:17. > :22:21.minutes into the second half we took the game to them. Maybe it was a
:22:22. > :22:27.little bit of naivete to be away at Stoke and going for the win, maybe
:22:28. > :22:31.we should have sat back, they Mitu changes, Crouch and Jon Walters, who
:22:32. > :22:34.gave us a handful when they came on. Our home form is important, we go to
:22:35. > :22:39.Southampton next week and hopefully we can pick something up with the
:22:40. > :22:42.confidence and form we are in, we have put ourselves in this position
:22:43. > :22:45.and it is still in our hands and hopefully come the end of May we are
:22:46. > :22:49.still a Premier League to because that is what you want as a player,
:22:50. > :22:53.to play in the best league in the world in my opinion, and as a
:22:54. > :22:59.football club it's just massive. Michael, we appreciate you coming on
:23:00. > :23:02.today. Cheers, guys. The whole City captain Michael Dawson after their
:23:03. > :23:07.win over Watford, incredible for Marco Silva, unbeaten in 41 games at
:23:08. > :23:10.home acted 2014 when it was the Estoril manager, he has since
:23:11. > :23:17.managed Olympiakos and Sporting Lisbon. On the flip side, the
:23:18. > :23:19.Watford captain, not happy about their performance.
:23:20. > :23:22.We have a moral responsibility to play a lot better than that because
:23:23. > :23:30.we have at Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton and Man City in the run in.
:23:31. > :23:33.If we think we can turn up and play like that we will definitely be on
:23:34. > :23:38.the end of some big scores. The clearest thing I can say, not in the
:23:39. > :23:43.business of apologising to fans, but that wasn't fair on our fans because
:23:44. > :23:51.it is a long deep to get up here. It will be a long hard week, there will
:23:52. > :23:55.be some words said and some things thrown and we will get people into
:23:56. > :24:00.gear. It's not just about now, it's about next season. Everyone is
:24:01. > :24:04.fighting for their position and we are all fighting for jobs because if
:24:05. > :24:07.we play like that and lose the next five games, I think, I am pretty
:24:08. > :24:11.sure the owner won't be happy in the manager will not be happy and they
:24:12. > :24:14.will be more players going than coming. Matt Upson, is that the
:24:15. > :24:18.right thing for the captain to say and do after the game? I think so,
:24:19. > :24:22.it is good of him to come out and speak. From gauging the reaction of
:24:23. > :24:29.what I've heard yesterday, the supporters really were not happy. I
:24:30. > :24:32.think what magnifies the supporters' angle, and we talked about this
:24:33. > :24:38.before the show, is the fact that they find it difficult to identify
:24:39. > :24:41.with the group and the team at Watford because it is such a high
:24:42. > :24:47.turnover of players over the last three or four seasons, they had a
:24:48. > :24:50.huge amount of loanees, and I don't think they can quite identify in
:24:51. > :24:55.what direction the club is going, even though they are in a great
:24:56. > :24:59.position for where they are, I think fans and supporters identifying with
:25:00. > :25:04.the players and the team is a huge part of enjoying a football club. If
:25:05. > :25:06.you contrast it with Brighton who are coming up this season, the
:25:07. > :25:12.community feel you have around Brighton where everybody is a
:25:13. > :25:15.Brighton supporter, they are not interested in Arsenal and Man City
:25:16. > :25:18.and Man United and all that, they want their hometown team. There is
:25:19. > :25:23.an incredible community feel about that place and that Watford used to
:25:24. > :25:26.have and you feel like it's gone now. Although they are safe and they
:25:27. > :25:30.have done well, Matt is right, the turnover they have, you can't hope
:25:31. > :25:34.to identify with anybody there, the manager, the owner and players, it's
:25:35. > :25:38.impossible. Something is going right, they are tenth in the Premier
:25:39. > :25:40.League and people watching will be wondering what you're talking about.
:25:41. > :25:44.Quique Sanchez Flores lost his job when they were 13th, what will be
:25:45. > :25:49.enough for Walter Mazzarri? Tenth? Where do they to be? You can see
:25:50. > :25:54.Matt's point, it's easier for supporters to identify with local
:25:55. > :25:58.players, rather than a new player coming in one season and often his
:25:59. > :26:01.next club, whichever club the family on, you cannot hope to develop a
:26:02. > :26:05.club long-term going forward. Eventually it is going to go wrong
:26:06. > :26:08.and you presume they will be relegated and then that's the key
:26:09. > :26:14.because then the fans really won't care because they don't identify. Do
:26:15. > :26:18.the players understand that, Phil? That importance of the connection?
:26:19. > :26:22.As you saw with Deeney, shaking their hands, is it something that
:26:23. > :26:26.spreads across? Or is it only a few of you it resonates with?
:26:27. > :26:30.Absolutely. A few of the clubs I've been lucky enough to play for have
:26:31. > :26:34.always had a strong bond with the fans and the players. I think it is
:26:35. > :26:38.a big factor in a football club. If the fans are onside and they are
:26:39. > :26:42.with you then it makes it easier for a player. You have to give them
:26:43. > :26:46.something to cheer about and obviously make them want to come and
:26:47. > :26:49.follow you around the country week in and week out. Deeney is that
:26:50. > :26:53.player, that's why he's the one talking to the fans, that's the one
:26:54. > :26:57.that fans hone in on to get him to put it right. He has a huge
:26:58. > :27:03.responsibility at the moment at Watford, and maybe unfairly on one
:27:04. > :27:08.player. But because he is who they identify with, is he there longest
:27:09. > :27:12.serving player? The fans can look at him and ask what is going on. They
:27:13. > :27:14.are not asking the other players that. Two games in the Premier
:27:15. > :27:18.League this afternoon. Liverpool v Crystal
:27:19. > :27:20.Palace at 4:30pm; and Burnley
:27:21. > :27:21.against Manchester United at 2:15pm. Steve Bower's at Turf Moor
:27:22. > :27:27.for Match of The Day 2. Good afternoon. The win over
:27:28. > :27:33.Anderlecht came at a real cost for Jose Mourinho's side on Thursday.
:27:34. > :27:37.Absolutely, it is all hands to the deck for Manchester United with
:27:38. > :27:41.those serious knee injuries for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo,
:27:42. > :27:45.both expected to be out for a long period of time in terms of this
:27:46. > :27:49.season, there will have to wrap Marcus Rashford up in cotton wool
:27:50. > :27:52.who is trying to score for the third Premier League running today. Wayne
:27:53. > :27:56.Rooney comes back into the thinking today, he hasn't a period in any of
:27:57. > :27:58.the last five Manchester United games. They still have an
:27:59. > :28:02.opportunity through the Premier League to get in the Champions
:28:03. > :28:05.League spaces. The margin for error is very little, if they can win at
:28:06. > :28:10.Burnley today which we will come to in it is easier said than done. It
:28:11. > :28:12.will put them on a point of Manchester City before the
:28:13. > :28:16.Manchester derby on Thursday, adding even more spice to that fixture.
:28:17. > :28:18.They have got the hardest run in and they are down to knock the bare
:28:19. > :28:22.bones but missing influential figures at the top and bottom of the
:28:23. > :28:26.pitch. It is a chance for Michael Keane to impress against his old
:28:27. > :28:30.club. In the Sunday Times he said he left United on loan but wanted to go
:28:31. > :28:33.Barack Dummett back to prove himself. Lots of speculation about
:28:34. > :28:38.his future and where he will be next season -- wanted to go back to prove
:28:39. > :28:43.himself. Lots of clubs are interested. Whistle at the beginning
:28:44. > :28:48.of this season, Leicester, when they were chances, bidding ?10 million
:28:49. > :28:51.and ?12 million for him. He is a Man United fan, I watched him watching
:28:52. > :28:57.the game against Chelsea at Old Trafford last Sunday. There is a 25%
:28:58. > :29:00.sell on fee Manchester United have in that deal when he came to Burnley
:29:01. > :29:03.so they might be able to use that to do what they did with Paul Pogba and
:29:04. > :29:06.bring him back to the club, and you would think given the injury to
:29:07. > :29:10.Marcos Rojo anyway that would be an area they would look to strengthen.
:29:11. > :29:13.Is part of the Burnley team for Manchester United, bringing back a
:29:14. > :29:17.painful memory of simile draws the season, 0-0 at Old Trafford.
:29:18. > :29:22.Burnley, black and white, four points away from home, 32 here at
:29:23. > :29:27.Turf Moor. The sixth best home record and Manchester United with
:29:28. > :29:30.Michael Keane facing in the back four today, will have to be on their
:29:31. > :29:33.mettle to get a result today. We have already seen Liverpool beaten
:29:34. > :29:37.and Chelsea drop points and if Manchester United want to finish in
:29:38. > :29:40.the top four in terms of their league position to get in the
:29:41. > :29:43.Champions League they have to win this game. Burnley against
:29:44. > :29:47.Manchester United kicks off at 2:15pm at Turf Moor. Matt Upson,
:29:48. > :29:50.Michael Keane, parallels to you, leaving a big club and having to
:29:51. > :29:57.rebuild, is that the right phrase, having to prove people wrong?
:29:58. > :30:01.Definitely. I've been on the journey he is on now, the comparison to
:30:02. > :30:10.where I was at 2040 Michael Keane is amazing in terms of the timings and
:30:11. > :30:13.where he is in his career. It is another example of a talented in
:30:14. > :30:17.this player that needs to play. When you are at a big club as a young
:30:18. > :30:20.player you can be protected by the environment and the domination of
:30:21. > :30:25.the team in matches and you don't really get the confidence to be
:30:26. > :30:29.relied upon, or play every week. It has taken for him to leave a club
:30:30. > :30:34.like Manchester United to go to Burnley with a manager that likes
:30:35. > :30:37.resilience and likes players to defend with grit and determination
:30:38. > :30:42.and learn his trade as a centre-back. He's had to go and
:30:43. > :30:46.defend the box, he's had to deal with pressure, playing away, and all
:30:47. > :30:49.those things that develop you as a young player, especially as a
:30:50. > :30:53.defender and a centre-back, he has the experience now and he has
:30:54. > :30:55.thrived on it and now looks the player he probably always was going
:30:56. > :30:59.to be at Manchester United. You've done it as well.
:31:00. > :31:08.Absolutely. I lot of us have gone away from Manchester United and made
:31:09. > :31:13.a career. He is a shining example of what can be done. He has been linked
:31:14. > :31:19.to a lot of top clubs. At the minute, he is at the right club,
:31:20. > :31:24.Burnley, under Sean Dyche. It is difficult to leave a club like that.
:31:25. > :31:29.In my experience, I had to really push that through. It is very easy
:31:30. > :31:33.to stay in the security of such an amazing club. Sometimes for your own
:31:34. > :31:38.personal development, the best thing is to branch out and do it. Fair
:31:39. > :31:43.play to him, he has had the desire to do that to better himself. You
:31:44. > :31:49.both knew you had to do it. You do not have any regrets, do you? No,
:31:50. > :31:53.you get a taste of football as an 18-year-old and you play against men
:31:54. > :31:58.and you want to do it every week and all of a sudden you are going back
:31:59. > :32:02.to reserve team football and you are like, I want to play. That is
:32:03. > :32:12.exactly what he has done. He was always in the background. Will was
:32:13. > :32:18.the next big thing. He has gone off the radar. Lovely lad, fair play to
:32:19. > :32:22.him. The next move is crucial for him because there is talk of him
:32:23. > :32:29.potentially going to Liverpool, Everton, replacing Phil Jagielka,
:32:30. > :32:33.Manchester City might be an option, huge decision process, all the top
:32:34. > :32:39.clubs looking for defenders. Definitely. He is striking at a good
:32:40. > :32:43.time. Outside of Chelsea and Spurs, every team is looking for a
:32:44. > :32:47.centre-back. I do not think the level in that position is very high
:32:48. > :32:54.at the moment. What a great problem to have for him. Anywhere as good.
:32:55. > :32:56.With the right mentality, coming from Burnley where he has been
:32:57. > :33:01.playing and enjoying his football, he has a good schooling there to go
:33:02. > :33:08.and hold his own and progress. We mentioned about the costly night at
:33:09. > :33:12.Old Trafford on Thursday, your paper saying Zlatan Ibrahimovic is off to
:33:13. > :33:19.the US for an operation. What do we know? This is where he believes is
:33:20. > :33:24.the right place to go to get it sorted. Some people suggesting his
:33:25. > :33:28.career could be over. We always thought he was indestructible. He
:33:29. > :33:32.has not suffered from injury greatly in his career. He has come here and
:33:33. > :33:38.he is the main man and held off signing the contract. It shows even
:33:39. > :33:42.people like him can be vulnerable to something like this happening. Such
:33:43. > :33:49.a shame. We have loved watching him this season. We love his character,
:33:50. > :33:53.you wanted him to stay in the Premier League because he is such a
:33:54. > :33:58.great entertainer. Really hope he gets it sorted out. Definitely. To
:33:59. > :34:03.go from... An example of how quickly football can change. To be at the
:34:04. > :34:06.top of your game at that level at one minute and then have an incident
:34:07. > :34:10.happened that could really flip it on its head. It would be huge
:34:11. > :34:14.challenge for him to come back from this and I am sure he looks like the
:34:15. > :34:19.type of person who is capable of it. Who would you rather play against,
:34:20. > :34:26.Marcus Rashford or 's Latin Abramowitz? I came off the bench
:34:27. > :34:29.early in the season and I marked him from a corner and I stood next to
:34:30. > :34:33.him and gave him a nudge and he looked at me as if to say, you do
:34:34. > :34:40.that again... I did not go near him after that! For me, top player. On
:34:41. > :34:47.the other hand, what a breath of fresh air Marcus Rashford is going
:34:48. > :34:52.to be. I think he will get his run till the end of the season in the
:34:53. > :34:58.team and United fans are excited. There is a feeling they are
:34:59. > :35:07.anaemic... There is a feeling they are
:35:08. > :35:18.Why is it? Because he offers more channels? They both offer different
:35:19. > :35:20.things but if you ask the one, defender's worst nightmare is a
:35:21. > :35:27.striker running in from behind. Marcus Rashford's blistering pace.
:35:28. > :35:31.It is difficult when you get two together, finding a place to
:35:32. > :35:35.incorporate and engage. You have both of them in the team and one
:35:36. > :35:40.pulling you here and another running you in the opposite direction. That
:35:41. > :35:44.for me is the perfect balance. You can use lots of different players if
:35:45. > :35:52.you are in the team and Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not there. If he is
:35:53. > :35:57.there, you have to give it to him because he will go nuts. It will be
:35:58. > :36:04.a big mess. Celtic leading Rangers by 1-0. Scottish Cup semifinal.
:36:05. > :36:13.Harry Redknapp's first game in charge of Birmingham. You were at
:36:14. > :36:17.the Hawthorns last Sunday. Is there the feeling now Liverpool who were
:36:18. > :36:21.struggling against the lesser teams in the Premier League are starting
:36:22. > :36:23.to get it right? I think so. Given some key players are missing, there
:36:24. > :36:37.was no Henderson, Marne has been
:36:38. > :36:40.outstanding. They are getting more resilient. They defended well
:36:41. > :36:45.against West Brom even though they did not throw too much at them. They
:36:46. > :36:48.coped. I thought it could be a challenge. They are sitting in a
:36:49. > :36:52.great position having had an awful January I think. If you take that
:36:53. > :36:56.month out of the equation, they would be around the title challenge.
:36:57. > :37:01.You still play Liverpool before the end of the season. No, we played
:37:02. > :37:10.them. I do not believe you that you have let it lie with Latin
:37:11. > :37:16.Abramowitz! What about with someone like Firmino? We played a couple of
:37:17. > :37:19.weeks back. The Liverpool team in the first half was the worst I have
:37:20. > :37:25.seen in a long time. You were 1-0 up. Yes, we were doing really well.
:37:26. > :37:33.They made a couple of changes that half-time. The whole team lifted.
:37:34. > :37:38.Two players coming on. They took the game from us. The performances from
:37:39. > :37:46.the two boys coming on, it gave the whole team and the fans a lift. It
:37:47. > :37:50.just goes to show. Big test for them against Crystal Palace today. It was
:37:51. > :37:54.well documented what Crystal Palace's run-in was like, the
:37:55. > :37:58.hardest probably. Chelsea, Arsenal. They must be feeling really good
:37:59. > :38:02.about themselves and probably preferring to play the bigger fish
:38:03. > :38:06.than the smaller ones. They have really come on over the last few
:38:07. > :38:10.weeks and pretty impressive stuff. Who will face Chelsea in the FA Cup
:38:11. > :38:15.final at Wembley? Manchester City take on Arsenal in the other
:38:16. > :38:19.semifinal and from both sides a final opportunity to win a trophy
:38:20. > :38:25.this season. The FA Cup is very important game for me. It is the
:38:26. > :38:32.next game and it is an opportunity to win a trophy this season. So of
:38:33. > :38:42.course we are hopefully focused on that. My future is Sunday. The FA
:38:43. > :38:46.Cup, how good the players are. I have said many times to them, they
:38:47. > :38:53.still don't believe how good they are. They are fantastic players.
:38:54. > :39:00.Winning titles helps you a lot. Winning helps you win more. I think
:39:01. > :39:05.it could be a very intense game with two teams trying to move forward. A
:39:06. > :39:09.very spectacular game. Once the first goal is scored. Let us hope we
:39:10. > :39:19.score the first. Your thoughts on your old boss Matt Upson. He says,
:39:20. > :39:25.it is more natural for local boys, they have been educated, players
:39:26. > :39:28.like Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, they should take
:39:29. > :39:34.responsibility, that is how we want to play, go together. Spot on for
:39:35. > :39:39.you? The future of Arsenal even without Arsene Wenger? That is
:39:40. > :39:44.Arsene Wenger's comments, that is as close as what he comes to maybe
:39:45. > :39:50.publicly saying something about his players. He is not the type of
:39:51. > :39:55.manager... Calling them out? He is not the type to do something like
:39:56. > :40:02.that. Is that what he is trying to do? Maybe. Looking at that, he is
:40:03. > :40:05.demanding something from them. If I compare them, looking at Spurs and
:40:06. > :40:11.compare the group of English players to Tottenham? There is a huge
:40:12. > :40:14.difference to what they are contributing, the Spurs players.
:40:15. > :40:18.That is something for me in those comments he is highlighting. They
:40:19. > :40:22.have quite a large group of young English players, some of them are
:40:23. > :40:29.now in the middle of their careers or pushing on mid-20s, they are not
:40:30. > :40:32.contributing and leading Arsenal as a football club enough compared to
:40:33. > :40:36.the Tottenham players. That is a huge issue for Arsene Wenger and I
:40:37. > :40:39.think the key to him getting the dressing room and the team back on
:40:40. > :40:46.track possibly lies within that group. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, very
:40:47. > :40:50.talented, where does he play question my very good at wingback
:40:51. > :40:55.last week but he wants to play central. His issue is he wants to
:40:56. > :40:59.play in that team and if you can be a starter at Arsenal, he will stay.
:41:00. > :41:05.If he will not start, when he hits the crossroads, he will want to
:41:06. > :41:10.leave. Interesting column in the Sun from Thierry Henry saying that the
:41:11. > :41:14.FA Cup cannot make up for failure in the Premier League. I do not think
:41:15. > :41:20.the Arsenal fans feel they will make up for it. They have been here
:41:21. > :41:23.before. They do not feel it is enough. They want to see real
:41:24. > :41:27.progress in the Premier League and they are not getting it. I do not
:41:28. > :41:32.think he can hide anything. Two or three years ago, we thought it was
:41:33. > :41:36.enough. It is not this time. This group of players, they have not made
:41:37. > :41:43.any sustained contribution to that team. They have patches which make
