:00:00. > :00:40.Hello, welcome to Match of the Day 2 Extra, we are on BBC Two and five

:00:41. > :00:47.live and the BBC sport web-site. I'm joined by Kevin Kilbane, Shay Given

:00:48. > :00:52.and Jason Burt. So over the next 45 minutes here is what we will be

:00:53. > :00:57.discussing. Arsenal left it late at Goodison yesterday to get a point.

:00:58. > :01:03.Giroud with the late equaliser. Chelsea have now won two out of two

:01:04. > :01:06.after beating Leicester yesterday. Three games today, including

:01:07. > :01:10.Manchester United going to Sunderland in the 4 o'clock game and

:01:11. > :01:17.tomorrow night we have the big one, between Manchester City and

:01:18. > :01:21.Liverpool. We also hope to be joined by Swansea's manager, Garry Monk

:01:22. > :01:28.after they beat Burnley yesterday to make it two wins out of two. We want

:01:29. > :01:34.you to be involved. Text us if you want to get involved on social media

:01:35. > :01:39.you can find us on Facebook. First that game at Goodison yesterday.

:01:40. > :01:46.Here is what both managers had to say. Well it is known as a place

:01:47. > :01:50.where it is difficult to come back between you're two down. We did it

:01:51. > :01:54.in a conVIPsing way I must -- convincing way I must say.

:01:55. > :01:58.Everything went against us in the first half and to concede the second

:01:59. > :02:03.we had a mountain to climb. But we did it with togetherness. And we

:02:04. > :02:08.didn't panic. We came back late, but it is a strong point for us. What

:02:09. > :02:13.happened is we run out of energy and it became a feeling of wanting the

:02:14. > :02:18.game to end. We are not that sort of side that we can just sit deep and

:02:19. > :02:22.defend. That is not the way we play. We need to play with the ball. I was

:02:23. > :02:26.delighted with the performance for 80 minutes. The first half was

:02:27. > :02:30.phenomenal in the way we took control of the game and we looked a

:02:31. > :02:36.real threat and we kept Arsenal very quiet. 2-0 is always a dangerous

:02:37. > :02:40.score, because the opposition will throw everything at you with hope

:02:41. > :02:47.and if that hope gets the back of the net, you're in a bit of trouble.

:02:48. > :02:50.It is just where we are in the season. We didn't have that energy

:02:51. > :02:55.that you need to have. In terms of first half, it gave us a perfect

:02:56. > :03:00.picture of what we are going to be, or what we want to be until the end

:03:01. > :03:05.of the season. Shay, we are early in the season, how important a point

:03:06. > :03:09.could that be for Arsenal as regards to the perception of the club f they

:03:10. > :03:22.hadn't -- if they can't come back, people would say same old Arsenal.

:03:23. > :03:28.Yes the first goal, Everton did switch off. It gave them that

:03:29. > :03:36.lifeline to get the second and the papers are saying The Fight Club. It

:03:37. > :03:40.was a massive turn around. On the that everton point and Roberto

:03:41. > :03:44.Martinez saying they got tired, that happened last season. The energy and

:03:45. > :03:51.the pressing they do and they found themselves 60 minutes with their

:03:52. > :03:56.legs tired. I they rely on McCarthy. He provides so much for the team and

:03:57. > :03:59.gives them belief to get on the front foot and win the ball. James

:04:00. > :04:07.himself looked tired towards the end. Him and Gareth Barry were

:04:08. > :04:12.dropping deeper on to the centre halves and Jagielka and Distin were

:04:13. > :04:17.dropping further. And they like to play higher up the pitch, to get the

:04:18. > :04:20.team up the pitch and keep possession. I think it was probably

:04:21. > :04:25.not happening from the last 30 minutes of the game. Do you think

:04:26. > :04:32.from an Arsenal point of view that understandably early in the season,

:04:33. > :04:36.and they have new players that Arsene Wenger might be trying to

:04:37. > :04:41.work out formation. Yes he started with Sanchez up front and it wasn't

:04:42. > :04:46.working. Everton were doing the pressing and Sanchez was trying to

:04:47. > :04:51.press on his own. When Giroud came on it made a difference. Cazorla,

:04:52. > :04:55.look at the strength in-depth in the Arsenal squad, it is better than for

:04:56. > :05:01.some time. There was a calmness about them. The way they worked

:05:02. > :05:05.their way back. They got the goals left, but you were thinking get one

:05:06. > :05:11.and they will get two, because ever torp were -- Everton were tiring. It

:05:12. > :05:16.is a strong point for Arsenal and shows the strength. Giroud made that

:05:17. > :05:23.difference and gave them that presence up front and he is allowed

:05:24. > :05:28.to hold the ball up. How do you best use Sanchez if Giroud gives them

:05:29. > :05:33.that presence and that is their best Sen Serce forward? -- centre

:05:34. > :05:38.forward. I the way he was playing for Chile, he was a kind of No 9,

:05:39. > :05:45.but he was floating every where. He has played on the right for Arsenal

:05:46. > :05:51.in the first couple of games he struggled in both games. He has not

:05:52. > :05:55.been involved and he is not heavily enough involved in the attacks. He

:05:56. > :05:59.will come up with moments of magic, but he gives the ball away at times.

:06:00. > :06:06.Do you think Arsenal could do with another striker? Yes he is not an

:06:07. > :06:11.out and out striker, Sanchez, we are wondering what is his best position.

:06:12. > :06:16.But he has a big price tag and possibly a No 10 off the centre

:06:17. > :06:22.forward. But the same as last season, I would be worried to play

:06:23. > :06:28.Sanchez on his own. Arsene Wenger is probably worried after yesterday.

:06:29. > :06:33.They have got Campbell as well and it looks they will move on Podolski,

:06:34. > :06:37.there could be an opportunity to bring someone else. But they're

:06:38. > :06:43.talking of another defensive midfielder. In the first half they

:06:44. > :06:50.were outpowered by Everton. We will look back at the other games and we

:06:51. > :06:57.hope to be joined by Garry Monk of Swansea. For today, there are three

:06:58. > :07:02.games. Two you will hear on five live. The 4 o'clock game between

:07:03. > :07:09.Sunderland and Manchester and Spurs versus QPR. Helle against Stoke is

:07:10. > :07:15.the other game. But that game at Tottenham, Steve Wilson is doing

:07:16. > :07:21.this game and I asked him about the old boys renuance yon at -- reunion

:07:22. > :07:28.at the Lane. It will be an old boys' reunion? Yes some ex-Tottenham

:07:29. > :07:33.personnel. Harry, his first return since Tottenham got rid of him.

:07:34. > :07:41.Glenn Hoddle one of Spurs' best players and a former manager and Joe

:07:42. > :07:45.Jordan and Kevin Bond. They played OK last weekend, but lost at home to

:07:46. > :07:48.Hull. Harry was happy with the performance and not the result. He

:07:49. > :07:54.would be delighted to get something today. How would you describe Spurs'

:07:55. > :08:03.start to the season. Quietly efficient? Not bad. Beat West Ham

:08:04. > :08:10.late. One in Limassol on Thursday in difficult conditions, 38 degrees in

:08:11. > :08:17.Cyprus. So it was good to win. They can play better. But they have won

:08:18. > :08:22.war both matches. They didn't get back to England until 4am on

:08:23. > :08:26.Thursday. QPR will test them. But Mauricio Pochettino has totered --

:08:27. > :08:34.started all right and he is a good manager. Thank you. Already getting

:08:35. > :08:39.tweets in. Adebayor has tweeted, let's get another three points. Do

:08:40. > :08:45.you think things same calmer at Spurs? They need to be. They do need

:08:46. > :08:49.to have, to give this coach some time. They have had a huge turn

:08:50. > :08:54.around in managers in last ten years. I'm a big fan of Mauricio

:08:55. > :08:57.Pochettino, he is a strong coach and gets his team playing in a

:08:58. > :09:02.particular way. This group of players could be good for him. What

:09:03. > :09:06.I have been pleased about is they haven't chopped and changed the

:09:07. > :09:12.squad. They didn't need to do that. There is an argument that Mauricio

:09:13. > :09:20.Pochettino is alone as an Argentinian will be good for

:09:21. > :09:24.Lamella. He is young and it took him a long time to settle at Roma and

:09:25. > :09:33.this could be his season. If not they will cut their losses. That is

:09:34. > :09:38.a point with Lamella he is young and some players need time to settle.

:09:39. > :09:43.Yes very young and a huge price tag as well. I know its not the player's

:09:44. > :09:46.fault. But it will weigh on someone so young. Mauricio Pochettino, we

:09:47. > :09:52.have seen last year at Southampton, everyone was impressed with how well

:09:53. > :09:56.they played. I think it is time they gave him four or five years to get

:09:57. > :10:01.his team in there and get the best out of the players. They spent a lot

:10:02. > :10:05.last summer and seven or eight players and it is port they have got

:10:06. > :10:12.-- important they get time to bed in. As far as QPR, what will

:10:13. > :10:18.constituent a -- constitute a good season? To stay up. They need to get

:10:19. > :10:24.to that 40 point mark quickly. They have enough within the squad to do

:10:25. > :10:29.that. I think the personnel he brought in over the summer,

:10:30. > :10:34.Ferdinand, he did make a mistake for last week's goal, but he will

:10:35. > :10:37.provide stability and experience and professionalism. That will run

:10:38. > :10:44.through the squad. How interesting do you think it is that Harry

:10:45. > :10:51.Redknapp is secure enough to bring coaches into the club who are

:10:52. > :10:55.managers themselves. Whether it be Steve McClaren, or Glenn Hoddle. Not

:10:56. > :11:01.many managers would do that. He is secure in his own right. A lot of

:11:02. > :11:05.managers wouldn't do it and would feel under pressure and as soon as

:11:06. > :11:10.they bring in a coach. It is credit to Harry Redknapp that he can do

:11:11. > :11:16.that. He knows it will enhance his reputation. Harry is getting older.

:11:17. > :11:20.He needs somebody doing a lot of training on the pitch. But what is

:11:21. > :11:26.interesting, if they hadn't have got promoted, he would have gone. But as

:11:27. > :11:31.Kevin says, he had that confidence to think I will bring in somebody

:11:32. > :11:36.like Glenn Hoddle. People forget how long Glenn Hoddle has been out of

:11:37. > :11:41.coaching. It is good for Glenn Hoddle. He could have taken the

:11:42. > :11:46.Palace job. But he said QPR have given me the opportunity. But it is

:11:47. > :11:51.unusual. Paul Lamb Bert is doing it with Roy Keane as soon as he was

:11:52. > :11:57.appointed as assistant, we said, we know what will happen, he will take

:11:58. > :12:06.over. But it is about being secure in your position. Yes and it was

:12:07. > :12:12.Paul Lamb Bert's decision to bring Roy Keane in. Roy Keane is a manager

:12:13. > :12:17.in his own right. But it is fantastic that he believes in his

:12:18. > :12:24.own ability that he can bring in an ex-player, or a coach of his Cal ber

:12:25. > :12:33.to a-- calibre to assist him. You can hear commentary of Spurs and

:12:34. > :12:40.QPR. The other lunchtime game is Hull versus spoke. A lot of people

:12:41. > :12:45.were being positive about spoke and their transfer business. We deserved

:12:46. > :12:53.the three points last week. It could have been two or 3-0. Spoke will --

:12:54. > :12:58.Stoke will look for a response and it is a tough game with Hull winning

:12:59. > :13:04.last week. I will find manager to talk to you about that isn't

:13:05. > :13:08.surprising. Hull have had a bit of a tough week. They won at QPR, but

:13:09. > :13:18.they were beaten in the Europa League and the loss of Robert

:13:19. > :13:23.Snodgrass will be big. Yes I think Steve Bruce, he is going to be in

:13:24. > :13:30.the transfer market. There is talk of Jordan Rhodes going to the club.

:13:31. > :13:37.Is he worth ?10 million or whatever Blackburn ask? Mac-Cormack moved for

:13:38. > :13:45.11, I think he is in that sort of bracket. What if Balotelli goes for

:13:46. > :13:50.15. That makes his deal. Shane Long is going for 12 million and they

:13:51. > :13:57.played 10 million for Rhodes, he does haven't that much experience.

:13:58. > :14:00.West Brom only paid six million for Shane Long. But the market has

:14:01. > :14:05.changed and that is where we are at. The clock is ticking and we have a

:14:06. > :14:09.week to go. He has got to do something and the price goes up for

:14:10. > :14:15.these players. Clubs know you need to do that. It is odd how it works,

:14:16. > :14:20.if you went back before they sold Shane Long to Southampton, even said

:14:21. > :14:25.it has been a good summer for Steve Bruce, but then one injury and one

:14:26. > :14:31.transfer out and they're looking thin. They made five and a half

:14:32. > :14:35.million on Shane Long in six months. That is good business for a guy who

:14:36. > :14:41.scored four goals last season. If they spend it all on Jordan Rhodes,

:14:42. > :14:48.will that work. They're different players and Rhodes is a natural goal

:14:49. > :14:55.scorer. Shane Long has so much all round ability. It is, they could hit

:14:56. > :15:00.a good combination with Jelavic. Or it could be the same player. Let's

:15:01. > :15:05.talk about some of the other transfers. If you look at the Sunday

:15:06. > :15:11.morning papers there is one transfer in particular that is dominating.

:15:12. > :15:29.The express saying Louis van Gaal closing on in Angel. United win ?50

:15:30. > :15:35.million race to snap up Di Maria. And the Sunday Telegraph, they close

:15:36. > :15:41.in on a record ?60 million deal for de Maria. Call oh and Shalott says

:15:42. > :15:47.Di Maria has not trained with those today. -- Ansel Lotti. He says, we

:15:48. > :15:53.are thankful for what he has done, there is nothing official but it is

:15:54. > :15:59.being sorted out. But if you look at social media this morning, there are

:16:00. > :16:04.rumours Real Madrid have added ?20 million on the price in 24 hours

:16:05. > :16:08.which is even better business. What they are trying to do is create a

:16:09. > :16:17.market. They had a deal in place with Paris St Germain which they

:16:18. > :16:20.walked away from. There is an understanding they approached

:16:21. > :16:25.Manchester City to see if they were interested so they are trying to

:16:26. > :16:30.tell Manchester United there is a market but if Manchester United

:16:31. > :16:33.going with ?60 million, that should make the deal happen. I think it

:16:34. > :16:41.will happen this week if those figures can be reached. It smacks a

:16:42. > :16:47.bit... They will say it is a great signing, to me, it is a bit

:16:48. > :16:56.desperate for a club who promised so much more. They will say, you do not

:16:57. > :16:59.sign up a great player like Di Maria in one week but this is not how it

:17:00. > :17:04.was supposed to be at Manchester United this summer. Is the problem

:17:05. > :17:07.that Real Madrid do not have to create a market because Manchester

:17:08. > :17:14.United are desperate and that desperation means... It can increase

:17:15. > :17:20.the desperation. If they say you have to bit higher than Paris. But

:17:21. > :17:24.at the same time, Real Madrid could say, we know how desperate you are

:17:25. > :17:29.to sign a player so it is irrelevant who else wants him, you have to pay

:17:30. > :17:34.it. But maybe they are also desperate to sell. I think so

:17:35. > :17:40.because the President said he was desperate to leave. I was surprised

:17:41. > :17:45.at Manchester United, we said it would not leave it till the last

:17:46. > :17:48.week of the men don't -- of the window because they will have

:17:49. > :17:52.business done in the summer, they are such a big club, but now Madrid

:17:53. > :18:00.can as such a big amount and Manchester will have to pay it. --

:18:01. > :18:04.can demand such a big amount. Where can he play? He played deep for

:18:05. > :18:12.Madrid in the midfield last season. And he also played on the left side

:18:13. > :18:16.for Madrid last season so he can play in a couple of positions at it

:18:17. > :18:21.depends. If you are playing three at the back, this could cause problems.

:18:22. > :18:26.At the quality and the running ability he has, he will fit into

:18:27. > :18:31.Manchester and they need this. What is interesting is that I think he

:18:32. > :18:40.fits in to a 4-3-3 and it went Louis Van Gaal wants to play that -- and I

:18:41. > :18:43.think. But he cannot do that because he already has Wayne Rooney and

:18:44. > :18:50.Robin Van Persie so who is his main man? He is playing that system to

:18:51. > :18:55.accommodate those players. And naturally, he would rather play

:18:56. > :19:03.for-3-3. Messages coming again on the other big transfer about Mario

:19:04. > :19:09.Balotelli -- coming in on. Balotelli, why not? If he helps to

:19:10. > :19:14.get us into the Champions League, why not? For the price tag, is there

:19:15. > :19:20.a risk which gave Mark not when we are talking about ?60 million for de

:19:21. > :19:28.Maria and ?60 million for Mario Balotelli. I was with him and a lot

:19:29. > :19:34.of the stuff you lead is not true. -- is there a risk arrest remarked

:19:35. > :19:39.was he a problem to the players? Not at all, he is a big kid and he does

:19:40. > :19:45.silly things in the changing room and he wins people up and the media

:19:46. > :19:51.make a big thing about that. But the ?16 million, it is a bargain.

:19:52. > :19:57.Characters are out of the draw now, there are no characters in the

:19:58. > :20:06.dressing rooms, very robotic -- are out of the draw -- not in the game.

:20:07. > :20:12.So it is frowned upon and he is an impact straightaway. It might be

:20:13. > :20:19.what Liverpool needs. He is still young, 24, 25, Italy's main striker.

:20:20. > :20:25.That is a great deal. The Sunday Times had a great article by Graeme

:20:26. > :20:30.Souness. He talked about the Italian coach, a good coach, he worked very

:20:31. > :20:36.hard to get a la telly on the straight and narrow -- Mario

:20:37. > :20:44.Balotelli. He did his best to get him playing at the World Cup and he

:20:45. > :20:50.asked what his one regret was and it was picking Mario Balotelli. I hope

:20:51. > :20:56.it works at Liverpool, it could be a good club and Brendan Rodgers could

:20:57. > :21:03.be a good manager for him. There is a reason it is ?60 million. Do they

:21:04. > :21:07.not all have problems with him after a certain amount of time? He would

:21:08. > :21:15.not have said the same thing about Mario Balotelli after the Euro

:21:16. > :21:19.tournament. But you could argue he cost the manager his job at the

:21:20. > :21:23.World Cup. You could argue that Italians also did that so if you

:21:24. > :21:29.bring it back to his personality is a big kid, after a couple of years

:21:30. > :21:38.of playing for your country and at a club, what if he gets bored? And he

:21:39. > :21:42.is getting to that age. Maybe he needs to grow up and focus on his

:21:43. > :21:48.football. I think Brendan Rogers is a great manager and he will be the

:21:49. > :21:56.right man to sort him out. Brendan Rodgers has experience and a track

:21:57. > :22:00.record of turning boys into men. The amount of characters he will have

:22:01. > :22:10.had in Chelsea in the youth team, the amount of dysfunctional kids he

:22:11. > :22:16.has had to nurture. He has had experience. Luis Suarez last season

:22:17. > :22:20.was suspended for the first part of the season and he had the rest

:22:21. > :22:26.season of his career. Daniel Sturridge, there are questions about

:22:27. > :22:33.him. And Raheem Sterling. They did a documentary and one of the first

:22:34. > :22:39.episodes was... That is why we hope this is the right club because we

:22:40. > :22:44.want Mario Balotelli to be a success because we need stars in the Premier

:22:45. > :22:49.League and it is great to have them in England. The comparison with him

:22:50. > :22:51.and Luis Suarez is not right, Mario Balotelli has been more of a

:22:52. > :22:59.liability on the pitch than Suarez. I watched him play against West

:23:00. > :23:02.Bromwich and he got box. The manager was trying to get him off the pitch

:23:03. > :23:10.but he got a second yellow card before he got the chance. -- he got

:23:11. > :23:16.blocked. At Milan, the manager asked him not to get sent off again, there

:23:17. > :23:22.was a booking in the first half. At half-time, he said, do not do

:23:23. > :23:26.anything else. He gets a second yellow card and he has to go off.

:23:27. > :23:34.Hopefully he will grow up and this is the right club but there is a

:23:35. > :23:38.risk. In America, Brendan Rodgers said he categorically would not be

:23:39. > :23:44.signing Mario Balotelli. Something has changed, it is a good price, he

:23:45. > :23:52.is a good player. Every transfer is a risk, especially with the inflated

:23:53. > :23:57.market now. Sanchez. There is a risk on every transfer. There are two

:23:58. > :24:01.sides with a 100% record in the Premier League, one is Chelsea and

:24:02. > :24:10.we will hear from Jose Mourinho, the other in Swansea. This is Garry Monk

:24:11. > :24:19.who joins us live. Good afternoon. Thank you for joining us. What did

:24:20. > :24:23.you work on this week from winning at Manchester United to taking on

:24:24. > :24:28.Burnley at home? Was it a mental thing not to Garrett -- not to get

:24:29. > :24:36.carried away Mr Mark very much so. -- carried away? Trying to get the

:24:37. > :24:43.players to focus and in situations like that, it is about attitude. It

:24:44. > :24:46.is a difficult start to the season when you lost your first game away

:24:47. > :24:51.at Manchester United and your first home game is against a promoted side

:24:52. > :24:56.and we knew it would be a tough game, they are full of confidence

:24:57. > :24:59.and energy. We played well first half and in the second half, they

:25:00. > :25:04.had nothing to lose and they went for it but our attitude got us

:25:05. > :25:10.through it and three points. This was your first preseason at the

:25:11. > :25:14.club, getting the team prepared, how difficult has it been to prepare

:25:15. > :25:21.your side especially going into that Manchester United side and the

:25:22. > :25:27.season ahead? I have had a plan and divided not have that and a way of

:25:28. > :25:31.working to put across to the players, it would have been a

:25:32. > :25:35.struggle. It has been hard and you learn by your mistakes but we had a

:25:36. > :25:40.good pre-season and we went to America and we came back and did

:25:41. > :25:45.some good work. It is always nice when players feel especially against

:25:46. > :25:52.Manchester United, that some of the stuff we were working on, we had

:25:53. > :25:57.success. That is important when you are trying to show them how to do

:25:58. > :26:01.it. They believe in it more when they have success which was crucial

:26:02. > :26:06.against Manchester and hopefully that set us up for the season. In

:26:07. > :26:10.terms of the pre-season, of course it is hard and it is new, but I just

:26:11. > :26:18.followed the plan and I made sure I stuck to it. As far as players

:26:19. > :26:24.coming and going, is that finished? Are you happy or do you expect more

:26:25. > :26:34.movement? Hopefully, we probably need two more signings to secure the

:26:35. > :26:38.squad for a hard and long season. Two more would be great and we are

:26:39. > :26:43.working on that this week and hopefully we can get them. If we get

:26:44. > :26:54.injuries, we become quite thin on the ground. As Swansea are an

:26:55. > :27:00.established Premier League club, I thought what Shaun Dykes said was

:27:01. > :27:04.interesting about being promoted. -- Didier Drogba. But sometimes it

:27:05. > :27:13.takes a while for players to believe they belong -- Sean Dyche. When we

:27:14. > :27:19.got promoted, we played with freedom. We did not fear anything. I

:27:20. > :27:23.spoke to him after the game and he spoke about it in the first half

:27:24. > :27:30.that they were playing a bit with fear. The second half was extremely

:27:31. > :27:36.difficult, they just let it go. They played with an attitude and nothing

:27:37. > :27:40.to lose and we did that when we first came in. I said, it if you do

:27:41. > :27:45.that for the majority of the game, you always have a chance -- if you

:27:46. > :27:50.do that. And when people write you off, it gives you the motivation to

:27:51. > :27:57.do that in every game. Thank you for your time, enjoy your afternoon.

:27:58. > :28:02.The Swansea manager. Let's hear from the other side with a 100% record,

:28:03. > :28:09.Chelsea and Jose Mourinho. I love my players and I respect them

:28:10. > :28:15.a lot. But I try always to be superb fashion all and to think about my

:28:16. > :28:20.club -- to be very professional. If I can be great to the club and the

:28:21. > :28:23.players, that is the perfect situation for a manager. If I have

:28:24. > :28:30.to choose between the club and the players, it have to choose always

:28:31. > :28:36.the club. -- I have two. The point is not always the quality, Peter is

:28:37. > :28:44.an amazing goalkeeper. What made me make this decision was the fact that

:28:45. > :28:50.he is 22. He cannot lose that we cannot lose this player because we

:28:51. > :28:54.do not give him the chance to play for ours -- we cannot lose this

:28:55. > :29:05.player. If he does not play for Chelsea, he is a free agent. I made

:29:06. > :29:08.a decision for the team and he is playing well, and Peter the same,

:29:09. > :29:16.because he is a professional. He will lay. From September. -- he will

:29:17. > :29:27.play. We will have competitions and matches every three days. Two

:29:28. > :29:31.fantastic goalkeepers we have and I think Chelsea has two of the three

:29:32. > :29:41.best. Kevin said, who is that? What was he

:29:42. > :29:52.talking about? Jose Mourinho, Chelsea manager, talking about Peta

:29:53. > :29:56.check and Thibaut Courtois. This message says, I feel sorry for the

:29:57. > :29:59.Chelsea goalkeeper, he is still one of the best. What he has to look at

:30:00. > :30:14.the future. to get into Peter's head, because he

:30:15. > :30:19.is one of best in the world and he will want to play first team

:30:20. > :30:25.football. Did you feel the same when it was you at Joe Hart at City. Yes,

:30:26. > :30:32.I wasn't entirely happy about the situation and hence I moved. Being a

:30:33. > :30:37.professional, you want to play matches. Cech is a top keeper. Is it

:30:38. > :30:44.different as a keeper, because keepers tell me that you can't be

:30:45. > :30:48.rotated in the same way full-backs can. Mourinho did mention they have

:30:49. > :30:56.the European games and the League Cup and things, but I just think

:30:57. > :31:03.there is not enough football for the two. Courtois is a fantastic keeper

:31:04. > :31:11.and Mourinho had to make that decision ten years ago when Cech and

:31:12. > :31:21.Cudicini were involved. He said Cech was the future. It is different both

:31:22. > :31:26.were on a different level to Cudicini. Cech is on a different

:31:27. > :31:31.level to what Cudicini was and he is still one of top keepers in the

:31:32. > :31:36.world. We were quizzing Mourinho about this and he said this is a

:31:37. > :31:40.good decision to have. It is a decision every club would want. We

:31:41. > :31:45.can keep them both, because we are Chelsea. I think it will be

:31:46. > :31:50.difficult to keep Cech. He op has two years -- only has two years s

:31:51. > :31:58.left on his contract and he is one of the top keepers and Mourinho said

:31:59. > :32:06.it is Courtois and Cech. Why would you want to have the best two

:32:07. > :32:10.keepers and keep one on the bench? The problem Cech has, there is a

:32:11. > :32:14.young phenomenon and I think Courtois will be the best keeper in

:32:15. > :32:22.the world and Cech will probably have to go at some stage. Harry

:32:23. > :32:27.said, Di Maria is a top signing and just what Manchester United have

:32:28. > :32:32.needed since Ronaldo. Manchester United at the Stadium Of Light

:32:33. > :32:38.today. The 4 o'clock game. Guy Mowbray is doing it for movtd 2

:32:39. > :32:43.later. - Match of the Day later. And Gus Poyet, he has been talking about

:32:44. > :32:46.the psychology of football and Sunderland shouldn't feel

:32:47. > :32:51.comfortable that they have, well that they have got used to beating

:32:52. > :32:56.Manchester United? They are used to it after last season. Winning at Old

:32:57. > :33:00.Trafford for the first time since 1968 was a big deal and played a

:33:01. > :33:05.part in them staying up. I remember the words he used before that game,

:33:06. > :33:10.he said he needed a miracle to stay up last season and Louis van Gaal is

:33:11. > :33:14.using the same word about a miracle for Manchester United to win the

:33:15. > :33:19.league. Sunderland are comfortable. I have been around this club for

:33:20. > :33:23.many years and they want to be more than comfortable. I look at their

:33:24. > :33:32.squad and I find it such a contradiction all the way through. I

:33:33. > :33:39.look at the striker, women Whickham and Fletcher. I think good but will

:33:40. > :33:45.they get a bucket full of goals. There is no top match winner in

:33:46. > :33:53.midfield. I look at the defence and wonder about the fitness of Brown

:33:54. > :33:57.and O'Shea. I think the keepers are all right. But surely Sunderland

:33:58. > :34:01.won't be in a relegation scrap. Will Manchester United look fair to

:34:02. > :34:05.middling this afternoon? Still plenty of players missing and their

:34:06. > :34:13.new signing does haven't a work permit. No, there has been an issue

:34:14. > :34:19.with the Marcus Rojo. So we won't see him today. But it is a play hear

:34:20. > :34:22.the is needed. I saw them play Swansea and they weren't great. It

:34:23. > :34:27.underlined the work that Louis van Gaal has got to do with United.

:34:28. > :34:35.Because I can see in these early weeks there is pressure on the front

:34:36. > :34:40.players, the Mata, van Persie, Rooney triangle. Van Persie will be

:34:41. > :34:45.back, but they have to perform. It just doesn't look all that great

:34:46. > :34:51.when you look at that three and four in front of De Gea, who is an

:34:52. > :34:54.excellent keeper. Mata, van Persie and Rooney are key and Mata

:34:55. > :35:00.particularly. I didn't think he influenced the game. He didn't get

:35:01. > :35:09.into the game with Swansea. He has got to have a big game today. Thank

:35:10. > :35:15.you. To be fair to the Manchester United manager, before the season

:35:16. > :35:20.started, Jason Burt, he did say my first three months at most clubs

:35:21. > :35:25.expected to be, it is rough. So Manchester United fans expect it to

:35:26. > :35:30.be rough. Yes, that is true. If you go back over his record at Munich

:35:31. > :35:34.and Barcelona, it was a slow start. Munich in particular, he almost lost

:35:35. > :35:38.his job in the autumn and there was talk of him going and they turned it

:35:39. > :35:41.around and won the lying. The problem in the Premier League is

:35:42. > :35:46.something Alex Ferguson mentioned, when Mourinho has almost changed the

:35:47. > :35:50.lapped scape -- landscape, you can't play yourself into the league. You

:35:51. > :35:56.have got to hit the ground running. Mourinho came in and won the league

:35:57. > :36:01.and Chelsea were into their straps and up and running. Manchester

:36:02. > :36:06.United have changed the way they play. Alex Ferguson had to change

:36:07. > :36:10.the way the team played. He can't play himself into the league. Does

:36:11. > :36:15.that mean if you can't ease yourself into a league, it is whatrd to

:36:16. > :36:21.develop -- it is hard to develop youngsters if you're craving

:36:22. > :36:26.immediate success. Manchester rut always craving success. They done so

:36:27. > :36:31.well pre-season. Maybe some supporters thought it was just the

:36:32. > :36:36.Louis van Gaal effect. But the wake up call was Swansea. They do need I

:36:37. > :36:41.don't know how many players, four or five, six players to come in. If

:36:42. > :36:49.they don't, then it will be another long slog for them. One thing you

:36:50. > :36:54.hear from various people about the Manchester United way, I think every

:36:55. > :36:59.club, 91 other clubs have tried to play the Manchester United way. When

:37:00. > :37:06.you're a kid growing up you look at Giggs and Scholes and even Paul Ince

:37:07. > :37:10.and Roy Keane. Now Manchester United may have to get real in the next

:37:11. > :37:16.year or two and think we are going to make signings, but it must be

:37:17. > :37:20.progression, not instant success. It won't come overnight for Louis van

:37:21. > :37:28.Gaal and he is right in saying that. It will take time. What did you make

:37:29. > :37:32.of Guy's club talking about Sunderland and saying he can't see

:37:33. > :37:37.how it fits together. At Sunderland? Yes. I thought the job Gus Poyet did

:37:38. > :37:43.last year was a minimiracle to get them out of the trouble they were.

:37:44. > :37:46.He said he needs some more players. I think they have got a lot of

:37:47. > :37:49.experience in the Premier League and maybe a few are ageing, but I think

:37:50. > :37:55.they should be all right. I don't think they will be top half. But I

:37:56. > :38:01.don't think they will be near the relegation zone. If Gus Poyet gets

:38:02. > :38:08.the players he wants. Will be a big week for Sunderland in the transfer

:38:09. > :38:15.mshg -- market. The Borini deal they thought was done. I am sure Brendan

:38:16. > :38:20.Rodgers will sit down with Porrini -- Borini and say you have to go.

:38:21. > :38:26.That is a good deal for Liverpool. If they can get 14 for Borini, 16

:38:27. > :38:37.for Balotelli coming in, that is a good deal. It minimises the risk

:38:38. > :38:42.more. Let's go back to White Hart Lane. Ian Brown has the team nows t

:38:43. > :38:46.-- news. Tottenham are back from the heat of Cyprus where they played on

:38:47. > :38:53.Thursday. A few of the star turns didn't travel there. So they should

:38:54. > :38:58.be fresh. Adebayor and Ericsson among them. Two changes. Vertonghen

:38:59. > :39:06.be fresh. Adebayor and Ericsson comes in and Chadly is in. QPR make

:39:07. > :39:12.three changes and there are two newcomers, Isla comes in and Fer,

:39:13. > :39:25.signed from Norwich, is in the midfield. Phillips start. Simpson

:39:26. > :39:30.and Faulene on bench. You can listen to that on Five Live. Now more about

:39:31. > :39:35.Balotelli and Liverpool, Manchester City against Liverpool is the big

:39:36. > :39:40.game tomorrow. The greater question about Balotelli is how he would fit

:39:41. > :39:44.into this Liverpool team. There is probably a question mark over a

:39:45. > :39:53.couple of Liverpool players. Who would you have a question mark over?

:39:54. > :40:00.I mean how he will fit the players, the Ricky Lamberts and others. Will

:40:01. > :40:05.this push him further down the pecking order and it is interesting

:40:06. > :40:07.to see how he will use the players. Against Southampton, they were poor

:40:08. > :40:11.in the second half and Southampton should have won the game. They lost

:40:12. > :40:16.it in the end, but they should have got something from the game. There

:40:17. > :40:20.will be a few questions that will be asked of Liverpool over the next few

:40:21. > :40:25.weeks if they're not getting results. Danny Murphy said he

:40:26. > :40:31.thought they needed another midfielder. The problem they have a

:40:32. > :40:36.bit, but they overachieved last year and now expect wakeses has gone --

:40:37. > :40:41.expectations has gone through the roof and if they get in the top

:40:42. > :40:48.four, I think it will be a UK is Cescful season. -- it will be a

:40:49. > :40:54.successful season. It is fitting the right people in the right positions

:40:55. > :40:59.and if Balotelli comes in will it be a swap for Luis Suarez and the

:41:00. > :41:04.others around them. Luis Suarez could play on the left and right. I

:41:05. > :41:10.don't think see that from Balotelli and I don't think Sturridge is keen

:41:11. > :41:16.on doing that. They're both want to be the target man. This is the

:41:17. > :41:19.dilemma that he will have. He is a very different player from Luis

:41:20. > :41:25.Suarez. Going back to the original point. It is more about getting in a

:41:26. > :41:31.good experienced striker, Champions League striker to bolster the squad.

:41:32. > :41:34.Would you bring in a midfielder? I thought Lucas was going to go this

:41:35. > :41:40.summer. I think at the moment, I'm surprised he started last week. But

:41:41. > :41:50.that is an area they do need to look at. He is a good player. He will be

:41:51. > :41:56.another addition. Manuel Pellegrini has told his players these games are

:41:57. > :42:01.the six pointers. Your title rivals at home, you can put a big gap

:42:02. > :42:05.between you and your rivals. They look like they were in cruise

:42:06. > :42:08.control at Newcastle last week. Yes, it was a great start. A lot of the

:42:09. > :42:12.players were away at the World Cup too and there were question marks

:42:13. > :42:16.about how they would start the season. But it was a well deserved

:42:17. > :42:20.victory. Tomorrow will be interesting, it is a shame Balotelli

:42:21. > :42:24.isn't signed for that game. It would add that extra spice going back to

:42:25. > :42:28.Manchester City. But you know it is even's probably building it up to be

:42:29. > :42:32.one of the games of season and hopefully it will be. Sometimes you

:42:33. > :42:37.can build them up too much. The players they bring in at City seem

:42:38. > :42:43.to hit the ground running. Fernandinho did it last season.

:42:44. > :42:47.Fernando did it last week, he came in and was calm and settled as if he

:42:48. > :42:52.had been there for years. You go back to comparison with Manchester

:42:53. > :43:01.United, City have done a lot of their business early. The two big

:43:02. > :43:05.deals of Fernando and Eliaquim Mangala. Fernando is a perfect

:43:06. > :43:11.player for them. They have done the deals early. People say Manchester

:43:12. > :43:17.City had a quiet summer, they haven't, they picked up players.

:43:18. > :43:26.Manchester City have filmed in the dpap -- filled in the gaps

:43:27. > :43:32.snoochltty key play fore-- - The key player is that he makes it easier to

:43:33. > :43:36.integrate players. He also wants the ball and makes it easier for the

:43:37. > :43:40.opposition to find opponents, for team-mates to find him and that is

:43:41. > :43:46.the reason why all these players seem to go in and find it easy,

:43:47. > :43:50.because of Silva. Thank you all very much. Kevin, Shay and Jason. The

:43:51. > :43:56.athletics is on BBC Two this afternoon and the football all

:43:57. > :43:58.afternoon on Five Live and Match of the Day 2 tonight on BBC1. We will

:43:59. > :44:09.see you next week. Old friends John Thomson

:44:10. > :44:12.and Simon Day are swapping comedy for Argentina

:44:13. > :44:14.and the gaucho life... I AM going to moisturise.

:44:15. > :44:16.It will be secret. ..where men are men,

:44:17. > :44:20.and the cows aren't laughing.
