:00:23. > :00:50.Welcome to MOTD2 Extra on BBC Two, Radio 5 Live
:00:51. > :00:54.Joining me today, Robbie Savage, Martin Keown and journalist
:00:55. > :00:57.Jason Burt, who's the Telegraph's chief football correspondent.
:00:58. > :01:00.Use the hashtag #bbcfootball on social media, or text 85058
:01:01. > :01:13.Over the next 45 minutes, we will discuss Marcus Rashford leaving it
:01:14. > :01:18.late as Manchester United win at Hull, and we will also move onto
:01:19. > :01:22.Chelsea making it three wins out of three as they put the past Burnley.
:01:23. > :01:24.Arsenal breeze past Watford, with new signings on the way.
:01:25. > :01:26.And we'll look ahead to Manchester's City match
:01:27. > :01:40.The Sunday Mirror, "Rash Bang Wallop" and also "Axe Factor".
:01:41. > :01:47.That focuses on who Manchester City will leave out of their Champions
:01:48. > :01:53.League squad. The Sunday Times is also focusing on City, saying Joe
:01:54. > :01:57.Hart is pondering a move to Italy. The Mail On Sunday is looking at the
:01:58. > :02:01.England squad announcement. Wayne Rooney will keep the captaincy, but
:02:02. > :02:12.John Terry will not be back for his country. And there is this byline.
:02:13. > :02:17.This is in the sun. We will start with Marcus Rashford. You will here
:02:18. > :02:21.from Mourinho in a minute, but first the man himself with Martin Fisher.
:02:22. > :02:26.You have not played many games this season, but I guess you have been
:02:27. > :02:31.itching to get on. It is frustrating, but part of the
:02:32. > :02:35.process. I am in training all day. Every day. Being around the other
:02:36. > :02:40.players has helped my game overall. I am pleased. I have got to keep
:02:41. > :02:48.going. There are chances for him, chances waiting for him. When the
:02:49. > :02:54.team was chasing a goal against Leicester, in the Charity Shield,
:02:55. > :02:59.and tonight, he made a difference for us. He gives new problems for
:03:00. > :03:03.the opposition, to play together with Ibrahimovic, to Michael
:03:04. > :03:08.completely different players, and in cooperation together, it is a
:03:09. > :03:12.problem for the opposition. He made a difference yesterday. We should
:03:13. > :03:18.not be surprised? He is such a fantastic player. I am surprised he
:03:19. > :03:22.has not had more of a chance, he is up against Juan Mata, Anthony
:03:23. > :03:24.Martial. His pace is frightening. When he came on against Iceland at
:03:25. > :03:54.the Euros, his pace was frightening. I want to see more of
:03:55. > :03:57.him. He had an impact as a substitute yesterday. The point is
:03:58. > :04:00.there are options. In this day and age, in the squad game, you do not
:04:01. > :04:02.have to start. He could be one of the best English players for some
:04:03. > :04:05.years. He is an outstanding talent. You can see that Mourinho does not
:04:06. > :04:08.want to use young players. He will have to use this player. He makes a
:04:09. > :04:11.difference every time he comes on. He wants to make things happen.
:04:12. > :04:14.There is no time to lose for this fellow. Every time they comes on, he
:04:15. > :04:17.makes an impact. He is such a young player, such a baby. Mourinho has to
:04:18. > :04:22.nurture him on the right way, he is a great talent. Yesterday evening,
:04:23. > :04:26.when you watch this game, all his good stuff was not the goal. The
:04:27. > :04:29.credit card to go to Wayne Rooney for setting up the goal. It was
:04:30. > :04:37.everything else that Rashford bid, and the impact they give United.
:04:38. > :04:41.Yes, but Rashford scored. Yes, of course. That is what you want the
:04:42. > :04:46.striker to do, to tap it in. That was important and he makes a
:04:47. > :04:51.difference. I have been impressed by his ability and his temperament, he
:04:52. > :04:56.is a fearless player. One of the few English players who come out of the
:04:57. > :05:00.Euros with an enhanced reputation. He did not have a lot of
:05:01. > :05:07.competition. He was the only player on the move. Ibrahimovic was in the
:05:08. > :05:12.box and stationery. For someone so young, I do not think this is
:05:13. > :05:15.happening by accident. The goals against Arsenal, when he started in
:05:16. > :05:22.those late game, you turn things around for van Gaal. People around
:05:23. > :05:27.the England setup, when he came into the squad, he impressed them
:05:28. > :05:31.straightaway. It was not when he scored in the game against Australia
:05:32. > :05:37.Mike at Sunderland. We will pick him for the Euros. He had been so
:05:38. > :05:41.impressive in training. We need to discuss why he has been discarded.
:05:42. > :05:46.Go on to that. I think it is a big mistake. He did not have to make
:05:47. > :05:50.that premature announcement on Monday, that they were going to send
:05:51. > :05:55.him back to the under 20 ones. I do not see that as a punishment or
:05:56. > :06:00.demotion, but I think he should be in the England squad. What has he
:06:01. > :06:05.done to take him out of the England squad? He has not played would-be
:06:06. > :06:08.Sam Allardyce's adamant. We will discuss Chris Smalling, whether he
:06:09. > :06:13.should be in the England squad. He has not played fewer minutes than
:06:14. > :06:17.Chris Smalling. He is a great talent, he has done nothing wrong.
:06:18. > :06:24.The under 21s is not demotion, but it is not necessary. He is only 18
:06:25. > :06:28.years of age. We have seen Sam Allardyce with Gareth Southgate.
:06:29. > :06:33.There may be continuity, give him a game in the under 21s. If Sam knows
:06:34. > :06:39.he is not going to blame, he wants to pass him down to the under 21s.
:06:40. > :06:42.If I was England manager, I would want to have a look at him and my
:06:43. > :06:48.first squad and then maybe after sent into the under 21s. They could
:06:49. > :06:52.look at him, have in the squad, have him around the environment, and then
:06:53. > :06:57.make up their mind what they wanted to do. If he is not going to play
:06:58. > :07:02.for the senior squad, sent into the under 21s, but with the first squad,
:07:03. > :07:06.if I was the manager, I would want to look at him. England should sell
:07:07. > :07:12.through. They should win the group. They have got Scotland and teams
:07:13. > :07:17.that should be beaten. I have seen Harry Kane at the start of the
:07:18. > :07:21.season. He looked sluggish. He is not scoring. At this minute in time,
:07:22. > :07:26.I would rather see Rashford with his pace and power start for England.
:07:27. > :07:32.Until yesterday, you had not seen Rashford. No, but we have no. In the
:07:33. > :07:37.next game against Love IT, who better to bring on? There is that
:07:38. > :07:42.aspect to look at. There is that juggling act, trying to nurture him
:07:43. > :07:46.and giving him time on the pitch. If you're good enough, you should be in
:07:47. > :07:50.the England squad. An interesting comment by Slaven Bilic, when he was
:07:51. > :07:54.the Croatia coach, he had players who were not starting for their club
:07:55. > :08:00.sides, but he quite like the fact that some of them were not, because
:08:01. > :08:03.they were used to coming on as a substitute and making a difference.
:08:04. > :08:07.One player was at Bayern Munich. Rashford is in that rhythm. He has
:08:08. > :08:12.come on again and made the difference. That is another arguing
:08:13. > :08:17.for him to be in the squad. Over the next two years, when Mourinho is
:08:18. > :08:22.there, how many games will he play, this bike? He has competition for
:08:23. > :08:26.places. That could be his regular roll. When you talk about playing
:08:27. > :08:30.games, are you talking about starting games are whether he gets
:08:31. > :08:36.on from the bench to make an impact? Are you talking about the quality of
:08:37. > :08:40.games? If he plays in every Europa League game, for example? That would
:08:41. > :08:44.be nice, but you want him in the first team. Sam Allardyce once in
:08:45. > :08:49.the Manchester United team. If he is not in there and he is an impact
:08:50. > :08:54.player, maybe that will do for now. He's a big talent. Can he be
:08:55. > :09:00.involved in both squads? Qualification for the World Cup is
:09:01. > :09:04.paramount. Sam Allardyce is a results manager. I am surprised he
:09:05. > :09:10.has not involved in. Onto the England squad in general. Jason, you
:09:11. > :09:13.spoke to him last week at the briefing. Is his real philosophy
:09:14. > :09:16.that you have to be playing regularly for your club to get into
:09:17. > :09:22.the England club, or will there be exceptions? I think you will take
:09:23. > :09:27.the same policy as previous England managers. You have to play for a big
:09:28. > :09:30.club to get into the England squad? Not quite. There is so much
:09:31. > :09:35.competition in top teams that you cannot be hard and fast and say, to
:09:36. > :09:41.play for England, you need to start for your club. That will not be
:09:42. > :09:45.possible. You start going to a small pool of players. Every manager wants
:09:46. > :09:47.some room to manoeuvre around that. Chris Smalling has not played for
:09:48. > :10:04.Manchester United much but I got the impression he would be in
:10:05. > :10:08.the squad. Rashford looks like he will drop out because of his age. I
:10:09. > :10:10.do not think he will make a hard and fast rule. You create a problem for
:10:11. > :10:12.yourself. Hole fans will be saying that the most impressive player
:10:13. > :10:15.yesterday on the field was Curtis Davies. Fans have been messaging me
:10:16. > :10:17.sing, it was not just yesterday, his started the season has been
:10:18. > :10:23.fantastic. We'll Sam Allardyce look at players who have had good starts
:10:24. > :10:28.to the season? He should. You look at Curtis Davies and Michael Keane
:10:29. > :10:33.Burnley. There are reports in the paper today that John Terry was like
:10:34. > :10:38.that. He will not go back. I do not get that one, personally. He is 35,
:10:39. > :10:45.he has been fantastic as captain for Chelsea. But in two years, I cannot
:10:46. > :10:51.get that into my head, John Terry will be much older. That came up
:10:52. > :10:55.last week in the briefing. Sam Allardyce was asked, would you
:10:56. > :10:58.consider John Terry? You tried to be diplomatic but he left the door
:10:59. > :11:04.open, saying, I might have to call on him if I need him. It has been
:11:05. > :11:08.for years since John Terry played for England. He needs to concentrate
:11:09. > :11:13.on Chelsea. I think he understands that ship has sailed. It possibly
:11:14. > :11:17.sends out the wrong message, the possibility of bringing him back.
:11:18. > :11:23.Everyone talks about the lack of central defenders. There are not as
:11:24. > :11:27.many as there were when Martin was playing, but there are enough. If
:11:28. > :11:30.there is a shortage, as a former centre-half yourself, should Sam
:11:31. > :11:35.Allardyce Billy King, rather than at this or that central defender, a
:11:36. > :11:39.central defensive partnership, two players who could work together to
:11:40. > :11:46.be the rock of that England team for the next five or six years? 100%. It
:11:47. > :11:50.should be John Stones and one other. Yes, he is developing in the way
:11:51. > :11:55.that we want. There are lots of suggestions that he does not want to
:11:56. > :12:00.play football, Sam Allardyce. I am not sure about that. International
:12:01. > :12:05.football, he will have to go up one level himself. The development of
:12:06. > :12:10.John Stones under Guardiola will be very important. He has got to get
:12:11. > :12:15.the balance right. Finding a partner for him will be key. Will it be
:12:16. > :12:19.Cahill, Jagielka? Who will it be? Chris Smalling? I think Chris
:12:20. > :12:24.Smalling probably makes a better partner. He has come out of the
:12:25. > :12:29.Manchester United team because of suspension. If everyone had started
:12:30. > :12:34.together, the Euro was almost got in the way because he came back late.
:12:35. > :12:42.He is not out of the picture. He might break into the Manchester
:12:43. > :12:47.United team in time. Michael Keane is a similar age to John Stones. If
:12:48. > :12:52.they work together, and they are regularly used as a partnership,
:12:53. > :12:56.that could work? They're considering Jagielka as well. Sam Allardyce
:12:57. > :13:01.might be thinking there is an Everton line, Jagielka and John
:13:02. > :13:04.Stones were together. He is a senior player who is a good communicator in
:13:05. > :13:09.terms of helping a young player. When he played with England before
:13:10. > :13:14.with John Stones, they did well. If he picks John Stones, he is making a
:13:15. > :13:22.statement, to play more football. To make that they've to international
:13:23. > :13:27.management. I think he will pay John Stones. Today he was talking about
:13:28. > :13:30.cutting out the mistakes, but when he spoke to us about John Stones, he
:13:31. > :13:35.was very effusive, how he should be the future for England as a
:13:36. > :13:39.defender. Who the long-term partner will be is a big issue. I am not
:13:40. > :13:44.sure about Chris Smalling. Daley Blind has gone into the side and has
:13:45. > :13:48.done well. No matter what Mourinho says, they have been looking for
:13:49. > :13:54.another centre-half. They have been looking at Jose Fonte at
:13:55. > :13:59.Southampton. Mourinho is looking for another partner for a late rally.
:14:00. > :14:02.Only 30% of the players who have played in the Premier League or
:14:03. > :14:06.English. You cannot be black and white, if you're not playing for
:14:07. > :14:12.your club, you cannot play for England. He cannot say that. Was he
:14:13. > :14:16.right to investigate the possibility of Steven N'Zonzi playing for
:14:17. > :14:22.England? Here's a player he believes in. If he has worked with him
:14:23. > :14:27.closely, why not? Shiggy castanet further afield, and look people who
:14:28. > :14:32.would qualify through residency? It happens in other sports, it is not
:14:33. > :14:39.unusual. We have such a small pool of players, he has to cast the net
:14:40. > :14:44.wider. In midfield, he has options. Jack Wilshere, Henderson, Dele Alli.
:14:45. > :14:49.Midfielders were they are strong. It tells us the type of midfield player
:14:50. > :14:55.he is looking for. In that case, they came to the FA, it was not Sam
:14:56. > :14:59.Allardyce going to N'Zonzi and saying, argue eligible? They went to
:15:00. > :15:05.the FA and asked about it. Do you have a problem with the? No, it is
:15:06. > :15:11.within the rules. Some people will have a problem. A few years ago,
:15:12. > :15:18.Jack Wilshere had at briefing and he spoke about Adnan Januzaj. He said,
:15:19. > :15:21.he should be English. With the England national football team, it
:15:22. > :15:24.becomes more heated, who is eligible and who should play. I do not have a
:15:25. > :15:32.problem with it. I remember singing the Welsh
:15:33. > :15:38.national anthem with Vinnie Jones. I don't see a problem! What a great
:15:39. > :15:42.Welsh midfield! I think we should say it is the start of a new
:15:43. > :15:46.beginning. There should be a positivity and a freshness about a
:15:47. > :15:50.new manager coming in. If you're a player and you haven't played
:15:51. > :15:56.recently for England, the door is opened again. It doesn't matter if
:15:57. > :16:01.you are John Terry or whoever, they should stick to those players and
:16:02. > :16:05.reward them. We've seen the Welsh manager do that, people who haven't
:16:06. > :16:13.played at the highest level or in the championship made great players.
:16:14. > :16:20.This viewer says perhaps they should pick the players. Ian says Rashford
:16:21. > :16:26.should be in that time. Ryan, I think he'll pick Cahill alongside
:16:27. > :16:43.Stones. Cahill has the experience. Text us on 85058 text us on 85058.
:16:44. > :16:47.If you pick Eric Dier or Harry Kane, you are making a big statement about
:16:48. > :16:52.those two players. He's not worked with either of those two yet. There
:16:53. > :16:55.is no reason for him not to pick Wayne Rooney. He didn't have the
:16:56. > :17:00.greatest of the euros but he isn't along. I think for now he'll carry
:17:01. > :17:04.on with Rooney. Does he need to go this person, Martin, is going to be
:17:05. > :17:08.my England captain? Or can he just pick a squad, pick a team, and give
:17:09. > :17:13.the captain's armband to someone? I think he's got to make every
:17:14. > :17:17.decision based on what he feels is best for England, and Wayne Rooney,
:17:18. > :17:24.I don't see too much wrong with Wayne Rooney yesterday, did you?
:17:25. > :17:30.When he got to the by-line and brought that ball back. He is good
:17:31. > :17:35.to go for the next two years. I have no problem with that. So you would
:17:36. > :17:41.go, Wayne Rooney, you are my captain? It is such a young group, I
:17:42. > :17:45.would go with Wayne Rooney. Too much emphasis I believe that the England
:17:46. > :17:52.national team is based on the England captain. Look at Wales,
:17:53. > :17:56.Aaron Ramsay was captain. He made Ashley Williams captain. Not many
:17:57. > :18:00.people knew that unless you were Welsh, but there is not too much
:18:01. > :18:03.fuss. Too much emphasis on the England captain, it is nonsense. But
:18:04. > :18:07.it turned out the be a good decision, so it is important.
:18:08. > :18:11.Outside of Wales though, not many people would know that that
:18:12. > :18:16.happened. If he chooses Wayne Rooney as a captain, I don't think that's
:18:17. > :18:22.necessarily a ringing endorsement of Rooney for the next couple of years.
:18:23. > :18:26.Going forward, what is his role? We talked to Allardyce about that as
:18:27. > :18:29.well. He gave the signs that the best role is that which he is
:18:30. > :18:38.playing now with Manchester United. By the end of the season, will he be
:18:39. > :18:42.leading the Manchester United team? If Rooney stays in that team he
:18:43. > :18:47.plays for England. The Manchester United team? Yes. I agree. And
:18:48. > :18:55.that's brilliant for Sam Allardyce. Jose Mourinho will make sure that
:18:56. > :19:02.Rooney will be at it. Two Games this afternoon you can see on Match of
:19:03. > :19:09.the Day 2 later. The first game at the Hawthorns West Brom against
:19:10. > :19:13.Middlesbrough. Defeat here by Everton, the League Cup upset at
:19:14. > :19:17.Northampton, and a fair amount of dissatisfaction among supporters.
:19:18. > :19:23.Three changes from that Everton game. Sam Field, an 18-year-old into
:19:24. > :19:29.midfield for the Baggies. Brendan Galloway, on loan from Everton, he
:19:30. > :19:34.is fit and starts for West Bromwich Albion. Those developing out,
:19:35. > :19:39.Gardener and interestingly Saido Berahino. Berahino is on the bench.
:19:40. > :19:43.Also on the bench is the 16-year-old by the name of cane Wilson, who if
:19:44. > :19:48.he comes on will be the first Premier League player ever to appear
:19:49. > :19:51.in a Premier League having been born in the 21st century. Middlesbrough
:19:52. > :19:55.already with four points on the board make one change from their
:19:56. > :20:00.league win over Sunderland last Sunday. Sunday. Friend is out with
:20:01. > :20:06.an injury. Daniel Ayala is in for him. There could be a bit of a
:20:07. > :20:11.defensive reshuffle. And cue lots of people feeling old, here and in the
:20:12. > :20:18.studio. Arnold Schwarzenegger is alongside Ian this afternoon.
:20:19. > :20:25.Schwartzer is alongside Ian this afternoon. There seems to be a
:20:26. > :20:30.feel-good factor in the team. Yes, they started extremely well. I think
:20:31. > :20:35.Alvaro Negredo has fitted in well. Scored on his home debut, and I
:20:36. > :20:38.think they've gone to their game against Sunderland with an enormous
:20:39. > :20:42.amount of confidence and rightly won their game. To start the first game
:20:43. > :20:47.of the season with four points on the board, they've got be pleased
:20:48. > :20:51.with that. A mix of home-grown players, British players and players
:20:52. > :20:56.like Negredo that have been brought in. Yes, that's important for a team
:20:57. > :21:00.like Middlesbrough so the community can relate to their team. Steve
:21:01. > :21:05.Gibson the chairman has always had a huge emphasis on bringing in players
:21:06. > :21:10.from the local area. And Gibson for example, who is the club captain,
:21:11. > :21:16.has been exceptional this season already. And Stuart Danning has been
:21:17. > :21:22.a huge boost for them over the last 18 months. They have had those
:21:23. > :21:26.experienced players in Negredo and Ayala obviously. They are looking
:21:27. > :21:36.solid at the moment. Mark, thank you. That game is this afternoon
:21:37. > :21:42.also on 5Live. Are you surprised at how flat everything feels around
:21:43. > :21:48.West Brom, given Tony Pulis, I was going to say not a rabble rouser,
:21:49. > :21:53.but he places great store on personality and momentum. I think he
:21:54. > :21:57.is frustrated, again, because of the lack of transfer activity around the
:21:58. > :22:01.club. There's been a take-over which I think is still waiting to go
:22:02. > :22:05.through. I think that's caused a hiatus there. He talked recently
:22:06. > :22:09.about needing five or six players. I think that's an indication that he
:22:10. > :22:13.feels not only that the team needs strengthening but needs a shake-up
:22:14. > :22:16.as well. But at the same time they comfortably avoided relegation last
:22:17. > :22:22.season. Nobody is tipping them to go down this season. They may well sell
:22:23. > :22:26.Berahino. It could be one of the busiest clubs towards the end of the
:22:27. > :22:33.transfer window. I think Pulis will try and change things around a bit.
:22:34. > :22:37.There hasn't been a lot of chatter around them, because people are
:22:38. > :22:42.assuming there won't be any trouble because of him. The 4 o'clock game,
:22:43. > :22:47.Manchester City against West Ham. The Sunday Times sports section this
:22:48. > :22:52.morning have the big story on Joe Hart pondering an Italy escape
:22:53. > :22:59.route. Torino is the club mentioned. It is in a few other papers as well,
:23:00. > :23:09.the Sunday People. And the assistant manager at Torino was part of
:23:10. > :23:14.Mancini's club. If Joe Hart phoned you and said, what should I do, what
:23:15. > :23:18.would you say? I would be surprised my phone was ringing! It is a
:23:19. > :23:24.difficult one this. Joe Hart is the kind of person who loves playing
:23:25. > :23:29.football. The situation obviously is clear, that Guardiola, I've seen
:23:30. > :23:34.interviews people saying we'll help Joe. It feels to me that it is like
:23:35. > :23:39.getting punched in the nose and somebody offering to take you to
:23:40. > :23:45.hospital. They've tried to help him. I would want to play, but where is
:23:46. > :23:52.there to go? For me people talk about Everton. The team... If I was
:23:53. > :24:03.Liverpool, I've said it on 606, I don't think they will go for him,
:24:04. > :24:09.but if Joe Hart went to them, where can he go? That's the big thing.
:24:10. > :24:15.Torino, I'm not so sure. They've talked this week about finding a
:24:16. > :24:20.solution for Joe. Does that become an Everton fit? You are looking at
:24:21. > :24:28.maybe it would be a good decision for Man City to allow such a good
:24:29. > :24:32.player to go and take points from the other teams, or does he go to
:24:33. > :24:36.Sunderland, where he will get lots of action? We want him to be playing
:24:37. > :24:43.and I don't think it's healthy if he stays at Manchester City. The way he
:24:44. > :24:47.was, listen, it was nice the fans were clapping him in the Champions
:24:48. > :24:50.League, but if it is down to money, I think Manchester City will find a
:24:51. > :24:54.solution for him to leave. People will be wanting to take him.
:24:55. > :25:01.Probably a game of poker going on at the moment. Maybe Everton might be
:25:02. > :25:09.the one. He was poor at Fulham when he played. He was either injured or
:25:10. > :25:15.put bad performances in. If Joe becomes available... Thing has been
:25:16. > :25:20.some interest. That's part of the poker. The loan fee and the wages
:25:21. > :25:26.are prohibitive, so they'll have to come down. Clubs are thinking we may
:25:27. > :25:30.be interested but plot at what you're asking for at the moment. Two
:25:31. > :25:35.ways of looking at it. From Hart's point of view, he believes he's been
:25:36. > :25:40.jettisoned brutally and to compound that they've left it so late. In his
:25:41. > :25:45.own head, how am I supposed the find another club at this stage? City
:25:46. > :25:50.will stay we know Guardiola is coming. You didn't adapt to your
:25:51. > :25:54.game, you haven't impressived in training. This is big boy stuff,
:25:55. > :25:58.this is what happens. There was always the possibility they were
:25:59. > :26:04.going to get a new goalkeeper in. Once Guardiola was appointed. You
:26:05. > :26:09.don't appoint a manager like Pep Guardiola and not back him. The
:26:10. > :26:20.reason he's been clear and harsh on Hart is to almost make this happen,
:26:21. > :26:26.to make this change happen. He wants this goalkeeper in Bravo to come in.
:26:27. > :26:31.In. Hart will have been aware of that, but he will be thinking there
:26:32. > :26:35.is no time to think of my future. Do you think Guardiola has watched
:26:36. > :26:40.training a lot, as managerses tend to do, and thought he couldn't coach
:26:41. > :26:45.him... But he couldn't coach him, as he came back late. It is a
:26:46. > :26:54.preconceived idea. Some of the players at Bayern Munich he coached
:26:55. > :27:01.and trained portion whether Philip Lamm, and the story of Martinez
:27:02. > :27:06.going from a midfielder to a centre half. Do you think he is thinking of
:27:07. > :27:13.Joe Hart and thinking, I can't coach you to do what you want to do? No, I
:27:14. > :27:16.think these managers, looking at Mourinho, Guardiola, they've got a
:27:17. > :27:21.plan. They are decisive in what they do. David Moyes took the job at
:27:22. > :27:27.Manchester United and didn't do a great deal to start with. Do you
:27:28. > :27:30.think if this had been on odd year, if there hadn't been a summer
:27:31. > :27:34.tournament, do you think he might have been at Manchester City He
:27:35. > :27:39.would have taken a look at him. He would have looked at the euros and
:27:40. > :27:46.what players are playing that represent my Football Club. What he
:27:47. > :27:49.would have seen from Joe Hart wouldn't have helped the cause.
:27:50. > :27:53.Gareth Bale scoring from 20 yards. It wasn't not a good performance, so
:27:54. > :27:59.straight away he wants to make a change. If that hurts Joe Hart,
:28:00. > :28:02.those decisions have to be made. It is a ruthless business. Everybody on
:28:03. > :28:05.the outside wants to be a professional footballer but it can
:28:06. > :28:12.hurt and you have to take the exit. But they are on such huge wages.
:28:13. > :28:26.This doesn't is about his footballing ability. If it was up to
:28:27. > :28:31.you, he wouldn't have sent Lalitta. Caballero's kicking last week was
:28:32. > :28:34.awful. The way he plays the game, it is nonnegotiable. He needs a certain
:28:35. > :28:39.type of goalkeeper that involves himself in the placement there's a
:28:40. > :28:47.big argument about the two types of keeper, one is reactive and one is
:28:48. > :28:51.more passive and he sees Hart as one that doesn't get in the play enough.
:28:52. > :28:56.He says I can change him but I don't have the time to do this. Saying
:28:57. > :29:01.that, Joe Hart I remember in a game last year when he gave the ball to
:29:02. > :29:07.Fernando on the edge of the box. People blamed Joe Hart for giving
:29:08. > :29:11.him the ball, but I thought Fernandinho, or Fernando, I can't
:29:12. > :29:16.remember which one it was. But it comes down to the players. Who wants
:29:17. > :29:19.the ball? In this situation he could have worked with him and made him
:29:20. > :29:23.better. If a manager's going to say to you that there is an area of
:29:24. > :29:28.weakness that you need to work on and I will work with you and will
:29:29. > :29:31.you be in my team until you get better, that's one thing, but to
:29:32. > :29:35.suggest you can't pass the ball and not give you the chance to work on
:29:36. > :29:42.it, that's harsh. I think he is still England's number one. Pete
:29:43. > :29:47.says Joe Hart has to go. Brett says he is bigger than Sunderland, is I'm
:29:48. > :29:58.gutted for him. He's a legend in my eyes. Tony says Pep Guardiola
:29:59. > :30:04.spotted... I was there. We saw it in a match in a warm-up game once and
:30:05. > :30:12.he was doing his nut at Hart's distribution.
:30:13. > :30:23.someone to yes, it has been very good. They have not played anybody
:30:24. > :30:28.of real note yet. Let's be honest. As fire as West Ham are concerned,
:30:29. > :30:36.Zaza from Juventus, the latest player. The fee will be triggered if
:30:37. > :30:39.he plays a certain number of Premier League games. He is one of ten they
:30:40. > :30:44.have brought in the summer. It will take time for them to settle. Yes,
:30:45. > :30:47.and they are getting injuries for the players they have been signing,
:30:48. > :30:52.which is a disaster, which is why they have had to go and get this
:30:53. > :30:55.one. I thought they did not play well at Chelsea. They were a
:30:56. > :31:01.standout team last year, knocking on the door of the top four, until
:31:02. > :31:13.April. It has been a tricky start. They are out of Europe, going to a
:31:14. > :31:15.new stadium. That stadium, if you have been there, it is not nearly as
:31:16. > :31:18.intimidating as Upton Park. It will be difficult for them. The injuries
:31:19. > :31:25.have really hurt them. It could be difficult for them. Payet has barely
:31:26. > :31:30.featured so far. Andre Ayew, Cresswell. They do not have the most
:31:31. > :31:34.amazing squad, that they can just absorb those injuries. You have got
:31:35. > :31:39.to give them some leeway because of that. Robbie. The disappointing
:31:40. > :31:44.thing was going out in Europe in midweek. The stadium is set for
:31:45. > :31:47.European football. People cannot go Europa League, but we have seen how
:31:48. > :31:52.civil-mac did, they got Champions League spots. It was a terrible
:31:53. > :31:58.result for West Ham with the new stadium. If it is going to take time
:31:59. > :32:04.to blend the players, and they have had injury problems, fewer games
:32:05. > :32:09.might help. The injuries have killed them. Payet as well, and Cresswell,
:32:10. > :32:14.the left back, he would have been in the England squad under big sanity
:32:15. > :32:19.was fit. Luke Shaw will be in it, and deservedly so. Their away form
:32:20. > :32:25.last year was amazing. They won at the Emirates and Anfield. Manchester
:32:26. > :32:31.City. They will not match that this year. One moron Joe Hart. David says
:32:32. > :32:34.of Joe Hart drops his wages and goes to Everton, he will play every week
:32:35. > :32:41.and keep his England place and he could be part of something exciting.
:32:42. > :32:44.You can send as a Tweet if you want. Let's move on to Chelsea.
:32:45. > :32:46.Eden Hazard has scored two goals in three games.
:32:47. > :32:49.It took up until April to reach that tally last season.
:32:50. > :32:51.Let's hear from him after he opened the scoring in Chelsea's 3-0
:32:52. > :33:02.Yes, I tried to do the best. I am always the same player, but I have
:33:03. > :33:07.confidence, I give everything, I could score a couple of goals today.
:33:08. > :33:12.I scored one. It was enough today but I hope in the next game I will
:33:13. > :33:16.score a couple of goals. They said it on Match Of The Day last night,
:33:17. > :33:21.he looks like a different player to last season. Yes, you have to credit
:33:22. > :33:26.his manager. He is really switched on. When he is running at players,
:33:27. > :33:32.he decides what he does, not the defender. He goes past people, that
:33:33. > :33:39.pace. When he is in the mood, he is as good as anyone. When you look
:33:40. > :33:45.down from Messi, Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard is just below that kind of
:33:46. > :33:50.form. He could go into that area. It is up to him. Will he keep the
:33:51. > :33:58.consistency? We saw flashes in the Euros, but nothing before that. His
:33:59. > :34:03.manager know, Antonio Conte, he will be in his ear. Have you seen him in
:34:04. > :34:08.the technical area? Here's a manager who has picked it up quickly. He
:34:09. > :34:12.will get a reaction from the players, and certainly from Hazard.
:34:13. > :34:23.As they pointed out in Match Of The Day last night, Ngolo Kante, they're
:34:24. > :34:30.talking about the difference that he makes, because it means that Hazard
:34:31. > :34:34.has less defensive duties. You go back to that fantastic Chelsea team,
:34:35. > :34:42.Clyde Makelele, and the team were Lampard was allowed to go forward
:34:43. > :34:44.and get all those goals. The team was set up so that Frank Lampard
:34:45. > :34:52.could go forward and score those goals. Ngolo Kante, water signing he
:34:53. > :34:58.is. To be fair to Hazard, he is fit. He had injury problems last year.
:34:59. > :35:03.Everyone has got to defend. You're talking about defence. Everyone has
:35:04. > :35:08.to defend in this team. You do not carry anybody. The manager is making
:35:09. > :35:13.that clear. He is trying to get him close to goal. Last year he was told
:35:14. > :35:18.to work back so much, if he was not 100% fit, he was struggling to get
:35:19. > :35:22.back up the pitch. His relationship with Mourinho was not the easiest
:35:23. > :35:28.and that affected him. There was a hangover from that in the rest of
:35:29. > :35:33.the campaign. In the Euros, you saw flashes of him. I am not surprised
:35:34. > :35:37.he has started the season this way. You cannot deny that Ngolo Kante
:35:38. > :35:42.gives you greater insurance than most Premier League midfielders. He
:35:43. > :35:47.is unbelievable. What the manager has done, Antonio Conte, he has made
:35:48. > :35:51.changes at vital times. Hazard was one of those. The West Ham game,
:35:52. > :35:56.when they were searching out for a late winner, you are coming off, I
:35:57. > :36:00.want something different. Maybe you're not working quite as hard. It
:36:01. > :36:07.keeps everyone on their toes. He is not on that pedestal he was on
:36:08. > :36:11.before. He crept onto that even with Mourinho. They are becoming much
:36:12. > :36:15.more of a team, Chelsea. I feel they could really challenge. That is
:36:16. > :36:19.right. I think they feel they are short in terms of recruitment.
:36:20. > :36:25.Antonio Conte is frustrated that they have not got a couple of deals
:36:26. > :36:30.over the line. He is looking for a central defender. He has tried to
:36:31. > :36:37.get to the ballet. He has gone to AC Milan for a defender as well as
:36:38. > :36:48.Coulibaly at Napoli. I think this could work in the favour of Chelsea.
:36:49. > :36:52.They work hard. The two Manchester clubs and Chelsea are looking like
:36:53. > :36:57.the most likely trio in terms of challenges. As Martin says, he is a
:36:58. > :37:00.front foot challenger. It did not need to be against Burnley
:37:01. > :37:05.yesterday, but in the first two games, the manager had to make the
:37:06. > :37:08.substitutions to change the game. It will be interesting to see if he
:37:09. > :37:13.gets another centre-half in the transfer window. Will he go with
:37:14. > :37:16.three centre-halves? We have seen it with Juventus and Italy. It would
:37:17. > :37:23.allow John Terry to play for a few more years. It might allow him to
:37:24. > :37:27.get two forwards in the team. He has played three before, but he has not
:37:28. > :37:34.had Ngolo Kante. He is like three players. -- two players. We have
:37:35. > :37:39.Manchester City against West Ham on Radio 5 Live today. That is there a
:37:40. > :37:46.commentary. Plenty of updates. They are also going to cover the Belgian
:37:47. > :37:50.Grand Prix. That is starting now. On BBC Two and the BBC sport website,
:37:51. > :37:57.we will continue with MOTD2 Extra. Would you like to defend corners at
:37:58. > :38:02.the moment? It is becoming tricky. I will say something that will
:38:03. > :38:09.surprise you. We did a zonal system. It was easier. For me, I like the
:38:10. > :38:15.grapple, but at set pieces, it was a case that he would back yourself,
:38:16. > :38:19.one, two, three, elevation as much as you can, when the ball and power
:38:20. > :38:23.it away. If you're trying to fight with someone, particularly if they
:38:24. > :38:28.are bigger than you, you have got to foul them to stop them. People
:38:29. > :38:34.turning their back on the ball. I like some of that that is coming in,
:38:35. > :38:37.but consistency is tricky. Marcus has been saying that he made good to
:38:38. > :38:47.a zonal system and take certain people of marking. -- Mark Hughes.
:38:48. > :38:51.They have given two penalties away this season already. Go on. I think
:38:52. > :38:58.it is becoming a farce. We will see if it carries on the way it is. Mike
:38:59. > :39:02.Dean has given three penalties now for a holding, Shawcross, Raheem
:39:03. > :39:06.Sterling, and yesterday, it was never a penalty. I think we will be
:39:07. > :39:12.seeing that the attacker will throw themselves to the ground even more.
:39:13. > :39:17.You exaggerate the fall, and you think, that referee gave it, why is
:39:18. > :39:21.he giving it, why is he not? When I played for Blackburn, we played
:39:22. > :39:25.Sheffield United. There was a similar rule. We gave two penalties
:39:26. > :39:31.win that game and Brad Friedel saved both of them. After a few weeks, it
:39:32. > :39:38.went away. If they are going to do it, stick to it. Mike Dean has gone
:39:39. > :39:41.to the extreme of giving those penalties. I agree, there is a lack
:39:42. > :39:46.of consistency. But not a lack of consistency from Mike Dean. If Mike
:39:47. > :39:49.Dean is refereeing your game... Different referees have different
:39:50. > :39:55.standards in the way that they do things. If I was a manager and Mike
:39:56. > :39:58.Dean was refereeing my game, I would know what to expect. I am surprised
:39:59. > :40:03.that teams are not more weight of that. The point Robbie makes is
:40:04. > :40:09.right. We have had this for 34 weeks. It will quietly go away. We
:40:10. > :40:13.will not see this throughout the season. They are clever. If I
:40:14. > :40:16.grabbed hold of you in the box, the first thing you will do is put out
:40:17. > :40:21.your arm to grab me. If it happened in the street, you try it. People
:40:22. > :40:25.will react to defend themselves. I probably will not try that in the
:40:26. > :40:30.street. If I fall over and the referee sees some contact, and he
:40:31. > :40:37.sees the reaction and gives a penalty. All of this is going on. It
:40:38. > :40:41.is almost going to have a series of referees are officials that marshal
:40:42. > :40:45.every set piece to see everything that is going on. I am not one that
:40:46. > :40:54.wants video evidence, but do we just do it for corners? When I was at
:40:55. > :40:58.Blackburn, the corner was coming in, Sparky would say, I am the Centre
:40:59. > :41:03.forward, I have got to get away from you. I am going to do that to you.
:41:04. > :41:10.Would you stop it? I am going to get away from you and make the first
:41:11. > :41:15.move. As a defender, if a foreigner does that, I will do it to him. We
:41:16. > :41:19.are going to see it all the time. The penalties I have seen giving, it
:41:20. > :41:25.is ridiculous. The Raheem Sterling one was ridiculous. It is right, by
:41:26. > :41:33.the law. He has turned away from the ball. It is never a penalty.
:41:34. > :41:38.Shawcross, on the first day, we are not arguing that that was not a
:41:39. > :41:42.penalty. The very first one. When the Raheem Sterling one, when the
:41:43. > :41:47.ball was coming from a corner free kick, have you ever not watch the
:41:48. > :41:50.ball? This is what I found when I played international football, said
:41:51. > :42:01.to me against the Italian teams. They were not looking at the ball.
:42:02. > :42:04.It was cheating. Is cheating. If someone is going to physically hold
:42:05. > :42:06.on to you, with his back to play, it is the interpretation of the
:42:07. > :42:10.referee. There is zero tolerance at the moment. They have got to try and
:42:11. > :42:14.work through a match speed. We are watching it in slow motion. It is
:42:15. > :42:20.difficult for the referees to do. They have put themselves out there
:42:21. > :42:25.to do this. It will be a debate every weekend, if it will continue.
:42:26. > :42:30.Guayaquil is a fantastic coach. Why was Raheem Sterling on Shawcross in
:42:31. > :42:38.the first place? That is another argument. -- Guardiola is a
:42:39. > :42:45.fantastic coach. Fans want be stopped. Yes, it can become a great
:42:46. > :42:49.frustration. I have seen terrible incidents of it happening. Jan
:42:50. > :42:53.Vertonghen, yesterday. If you're not looking at the ball, you have no
:42:54. > :43:00.excuse if you get done for that. Even if the contact is minimal. That
:43:01. > :43:05.should stop. Was it a penalty yesterday? I think it was. It is a
:43:06. > :43:09.noncontact sport. You have got to look at the ball. We have all
:43:10. > :43:14.played, some are better levels than others. You were better than me. If
:43:15. > :43:19.the ball is there and you look at it, you have a split second, we'll
:43:20. > :43:26.is my man? Shawcross said that date was surprised that the penalty was
:43:27. > :43:31.given. That was in open play yesterday, Christian Benteke did not
:43:32. > :43:37.even appeal. Get your hands stand. Use your body. Zonal marking. Get
