:00:09. > :00:45.Good afternoon. We are on BBC One and the BBC sport website this lunch

:00:46. > :00:49.time. We have John Monson, former Everton and Republic of Ireland

:00:50. > :01:10.midfielder Kevin Kilbane and England and Chelsea two Eni Aluko. In the

:01:11. > :01:15.next 45 minutes this is what we will be discussing. Rooney sees red,

:01:16. > :01:19.Diego Costa cannot stop scoring, Frank Lampard is still scoring for

:01:20. > :01:29.Manchester City, Derby day deadlock on Mars -- Merseyside and in north

:01:30. > :01:33.London. And no joking matter, is his job on the line? Wayne Rooney and

:01:34. > :01:37.the Ryder Cup dominating the back pages today. The Sunday express has

:01:38. > :01:45.a picture of him celebrating his goal yesterday. The Sunday Times

:01:46. > :01:50.have done a massive interview with him, before the red card. Including

:01:51. > :02:00.the quote "have I fulfilled my potential? " The mirror focusing on

:02:01. > :02:05.Frank Lampard. Interesting from Rob Draper in the mail on Sunday,

:02:06. > :02:13.talking about Arsenal's Academy. Saying that Arsene Wenger must start

:02:14. > :02:21.again with his academy plans. And inside they focus on Alan Pardew.

:02:22. > :02:25.Saying that David Moyes is apparently being lined up to replace

:02:26. > :02:33.Alan Pardew. Before we get to force an rain Rooney -- false on Wayne

:02:34. > :02:43.Rooney we can hear from Louis van Gaal. Yes, it was a break-out of a

:02:44. > :02:54.set play of hours. He makes a professional foul, I think. You can

:02:55. > :03:00.call it bad. - hours -- ours. I do not think Wayne wanted to do it like

:03:01. > :03:09.this but he did it and you can give the red card. Do you think that was

:03:10. > :03:15.a professional foul? I think he intended it as a professional foul,

:03:16. > :03:20.it was a counterattack. Four recovering defenders so why did he

:03:21. > :03:28.do that? I think it was reckless. There was no need for him to lash

:03:29. > :03:32.out. A professional foul, you have being taught it is a bit discreet.

:03:33. > :03:41.The problem was it was reckless. It was violent. Sakho did a similar

:03:42. > :03:45.foul and got a yellow card. You were there, talking to Manchester United

:03:46. > :03:52.fans, some of them thought it should only have been yellow. It was the

:03:53. > :03:56.height. Absolutely, I was besieged by fans at the ground and hotel

:03:57. > :04:04.saying it was harsh. In the end I said, watch mansion that a and C

:04:05. > :04:11.where he catches him. -- watch and you will see where he catches him. I

:04:12. > :04:15.thought Rooney lost his temper. I thought there had been a

:04:16. > :04:19.half-hearted appeal for handball against West Ham and we have seen

:04:20. > :04:27.Rooney do this before. It was the red mist again. It's looks awful,

:04:28. > :04:31.Kevin, every time you see it. There was red mist? We have seen it from

:04:32. > :04:36.him before. He talks about being more mature or on and off the pitch.

:04:37. > :04:41.As a captain you need to have that maturity. I would not want to

:04:42. > :04:45.condemn him for that because he scored a great goal, if I am looking

:04:46. > :04:52.at the positive side, I know that the foul, you are talking about the

:04:53. > :04:58.discrete files, Rooney could have clipped his heels. -- discreet

:04:59. > :05:04.fouls. He will get a three-game ban and justifiably so. Overall, Wayne

:05:05. > :05:08.Rooney in great form, that is probably when he is in his best

:05:09. > :05:15.form, on the edge. We have seen that from him for 15 years. Do have to

:05:16. > :05:19.take into account, I know it is the new age, but he is the captain not

:05:20. > :05:25.only of Manchester United, but also of England and there was a time of

:05:26. > :05:29.people would say he should set a better example. Is that why, for

:05:30. > :05:33.example, if it had been Stewart Downing on Wayne Rooney, I know for

:05:34. > :05:41.a fact we would not have started the show with that. Even if Wayne Rooney

:05:42. > :05:44.was not Manchester United and England captain we could still have

:05:45. > :05:49.started with it because he is Wayne Rooney but given he has the

:05:50. > :05:52.captaincy, is that a good enough reason to be discussing it first

:05:53. > :05:58.question my van Gaal said he has some special treatment because he is

:05:59. > :06:03.captain. So he has to accept the responsibility as well. That is

:06:04. > :06:08.exactly right, any player who has worn the armband for Manchester

:06:09. > :06:14.United knows the weight of expectations. Rooney knows that. I

:06:15. > :06:18.look at it both ways. Everybody will talk about it and he can continue

:06:19. > :06:25.being Wayne Rooney, people can leave him alone. But it could be really

:06:26. > :06:27.bad in the sense that now people are questioning whether he can be

:06:28. > :06:33.Manchester United and England captain because of this kind of

:06:34. > :06:37.behaviour. I think he is going to have to learn and grow into the

:06:38. > :06:43.role. And learned that you cannot really make rash decisions like

:06:44. > :06:47.that. But United won the game so van Gaal is smiling. If they had not won

:06:48. > :06:52.the game again, throwing more points you way like against Leicester, it

:06:53. > :07:03.would not have sat well with him. But he can move on, but he now has

:07:04. > :07:07.to be without Rooney fit the games coming up. "Rooney should never have

:07:08. > :07:12.been given captaincy, he does not have the temperament". People saying

:07:13. > :07:19.they are making a mountain out of a mole Hill. For temperament,

:07:20. > :07:25.inconsistent form. Not the qualities I look for. I know what you're

:07:26. > :07:30.saying about England captaincy, but a lot of captains have not been

:07:31. > :07:37.angels. Even going back to the 60s and 70s they were not angels. But

:07:38. > :07:43.not many were sent off twice playing for England. It is a different game.

:07:44. > :07:50.I accept this is a new era. I'm just reflecting the view of quite a few

:07:51. > :07:54.of our older viewers. I read Matt Dickinson, a book on Bobby Moore,

:07:55. > :07:59.one of the passages that was serialised including Bobby Moore

:08:00. > :08:02.going out and rather than going round about, went over the round

:08:03. > :08:06.about, left his car on the roundabout disappeared. If an

:08:07. > :08:12.England captain did that today, it would not just be on the back pages.

:08:13. > :08:20.And that is the scrutiny Wayne Rooney is under. I do not want to

:08:21. > :08:24.condemn him, blowing it out of proportion. I get that it was try

:08:25. > :08:30.break-out plate but it was more how high the tackle was. All he was

:08:31. > :08:35.trying to do was stop an attack. I know there were bodies back, Phil

:08:36. > :08:38.Neville pointed that out, there were bodies back for United. I remember

:08:39. > :08:44.right gigs doing a similar thing against Arsenal. You want geeks

:08:45. > :08:51.taken out early and they did not do that. He scored that wonderful goal.

:08:52. > :08:57.It is what can happen. "Why is the media treating him like this? "

:08:58. > :09:00.Nemanja Vidic, Eric Cantona and Roy Keane are described as fearless

:09:01. > :09:09.leaders. His captaincy has just started. " He was everywhere for the

:09:10. > :09:13.60 minutes, he missed one tackle and everyone is acting like the bloke

:09:14. > :09:18.killed someone close. Kevin's point is that if United had not held on it

:09:19. > :09:22.would have been a different matter. Wayne Rooney after the game was

:09:23. > :09:26.probably very relieved. It actually takes away slightly from the fact he

:09:27. > :09:35.could have cost his team three points. They were unlucky not to

:09:36. > :09:42.score. If they had not won the game, that is a completely different

:09:43. > :09:48.story. We would be saying he has cost his team the game. And one

:09:49. > :09:52.other point, forgetting it was Rooney, the referee was in a very

:09:53. > :09:57.good position, Lee Mason will stop from where he was that tackle

:09:58. > :10:01.definitely came under the heading of violent or reckless conduct. The law

:10:02. > :10:06.says that is a red card whether it is Wayne Rooney or anybody else. On

:10:07. > :10:11.the offside would you have been disappointed question my it is

:10:12. > :10:16.clearly offside. You have seen the pictures. If you are marginally

:10:17. > :10:21.offside you offside. I understand Big Sam but clear cut your offside.

:10:22. > :10:24.For everything you go back, you see replays afterwards and you will be

:10:25. > :10:32.able to scrutinise it, but Kevin Nolan was offside. It is probably a

:10:33. > :10:36.correct decision technically speaking. It is the correct

:10:37. > :10:41.decision. But from the striker 's perspective it is incredibly harsh.

:10:42. > :10:45.There has been goal scored. He reached the stage now where if

:10:46. > :10:50.something has a fingernail ahead the flag goes up. There was a man in

:10:51. > :11:01.charge of the FAA called Philip Don -- FA. He recommended to Fifa that

:11:02. > :11:06.the law should say, is their daylight? That would clarify the

:11:07. > :11:10.situation. You have to give the assistant credit, so many times you

:11:11. > :11:14.miss the decision. If ripping a different story if it had gone

:11:15. > :11:19.against United but he got the decision right, spot on. Great

:11:20. > :11:28.decision. If that had gone against UU would have said, well done,

:11:29. > :11:34.linesmen. Of course! Let's move on to Chelsea. Another three points and

:11:35. > :11:39.another goal from Diego Costa. Jose Mourinho. Know, the gamble is to

:11:40. > :11:46.play him in consecutive matches without a minimum of a week to

:11:47. > :11:54.recover from his situation. The accumulation is the problem. The

:11:55. > :12:00.human nation that made him -- the accumulation. But we are not giving

:12:01. > :12:12.him that because he is not playing three matches in a week. He has had

:12:13. > :12:15.15 shots on target in six games. Three shots on target more than

:12:16. > :12:24.Aston Villa in that game yesterday. And yet we keep being told that he

:12:25. > :12:29.is not fully fit. That is the scary problem. His movement in the box, to

:12:30. > :12:34.create space for himself, the goal he scored yesterday was brilliant

:12:35. > :12:40.movement. But he is doing that time and again. If he is not fit what is

:12:41. > :12:46.he going to be like at 100%? You cannot see any other striker,

:12:47. > :12:52.Ronaldo, maybe Messi, but Premier League football there is no better.

:12:53. > :12:57.He has this hamstring treatment, you are at Chelsea, the same medical

:12:58. > :13:01.facilities, do you think Chelsea are going about this the right way,

:13:02. > :13:09.managing it the right way, playing him once a week? I think behind this

:13:10. > :13:14.is they will be doing a lot of recovery work with him. He is

:13:15. > :13:19.Chelsea's best player at the moment and Diego Costa probably wants to

:13:20. > :13:25.play. When I am 70 or 80 cents fit I say to my manager, I want to play,

:13:26. > :13:28.even if the medical staff say you should have a rest. With the

:13:29. > :13:33.international break I am sure Mourinho will put his foot down and

:13:34. > :13:40.say he needs a break. This is a good time to have one. With your

:13:41. > :13:44.hamstrings, as you just said, at 80% fit, how does that affect you

:13:45. > :13:51.mentally when you go onto the field? Is there any doubt in your mind that

:13:52. > :13:56.it might pop? There is doubt. But I think with all of the recovery

:13:57. > :14:02.methods we do these days with ice bats, protein shakes and everything

:14:03. > :14:06.-- Bath 's. It makes you feel psychologically ready and you have

:14:07. > :14:12.to trust you are ready. If you are feeling it you have to say, I cannot

:14:13. > :14:16.be selfish. But a lot of players want to go out there and see whether

:14:17. > :14:19.they can hold up and if they are struggling they will come off. Will

:14:20. > :14:26.the international breaks be used more and more given how supposedly

:14:27. > :14:31.easy it is going to be to qualify for Euro 2016? We will come onto

:14:32. > :14:35.Raheem Sterling later. Well a lot of clubs be trying to pull players with

:14:36. > :14:42.a little niggle here and there out of those qualifiers? I think that

:14:43. > :14:46.goes both ways. Some players now can see the country, not just England,

:14:47. > :14:52.Scotland, Wales and Ireland getting through to the finals of 2016. Some

:14:53. > :14:55.of the players will perhaps wants to play in what would have been in the

:14:56. > :15:02.past the kind of international they might have discreetly and

:15:03. > :15:06.diplomatically pulled out of. Kevin you are the best person to answer

:15:07. > :15:09.that. Do you not think there is an incentive now the players to play

:15:10. > :15:15.those internationals that might not always have been there?

:15:16. > :15:22.If you are looking at Ireland, Scotland and Wales, they

:15:23. > :15:26.realistically have a good chance of qualification. But when you are

:15:27. > :15:35.looking at Spain, the likes of England, these nations will qualify.

:15:36. > :15:39.Jose Mourinho could lean on the coaches of the national teams and

:15:40. > :15:44.say, can we have him for two weeks, he will be back and fresh for your

:15:45. > :15:49.next international in two weeks. That is the discussions that will go

:15:50. > :15:54.on. If you are going to get Diego Costa back fully fit after a couple

:15:55. > :15:58.of weeks off, you will get an awesome player. Whilst I take your

:15:59. > :16:04.point he will want to play every game, there must be part of him

:16:05. > :16:09.thinking, if I want to get my hamstring right then maybe I can do

:16:10. > :16:17.without playing against Luxembourg? They are not difficult games, they

:16:18. > :16:25.are games Spain would expect to win. Jose Mourinho's perspective, he

:16:26. > :16:29.could think this is again he could miss and the national Spanish coach

:16:30. > :16:34.may say the same thing. Hopefully they can get him fit. Who knows what

:16:35. > :16:41.will happen because he has been frightening with eight goals. He

:16:42. > :16:46.wants to play himself. So many players given half the excuse not to

:16:47. > :16:51.play, they will not play. He is pushing to be played every week. You

:16:52. > :16:56.have to give him credit for that. There is quite a few out the top

:16:57. > :17:03.level now, given an excuse, they will miss again. This is not the

:17:04. > :17:09.strongest team Chelsea have assembled, they are not unstoppable

:17:10. > :17:17.at the moment. How would you rate the strength of this squad? It is

:17:18. > :17:23.similar to 2005 and 2006. Perhaps it is going down to number 18, 19 and

:17:24. > :17:31.20 being better players than they were then. If this Diego Costa thing

:17:32. > :17:36.continues the way it is, Loic Remy is a very good replacement. I don't

:17:37. > :17:41.think they will suffer too much like that. I think the Chelsea team he is

:17:42. > :17:48.putting out now is more focused than the Chelsea team of last season.

:17:49. > :17:53.Diego Costa is one of the reasons. Jose Mourinho said to me, he is

:17:54. > :18:02.scoring the kind of goals we could not get last season, despite having

:18:03. > :18:10.the creative players like Hazard, Oscar and everybody else. You can

:18:11. > :18:14.get in touch with the programme, particularly Manchester City fans on

:18:15. > :18:23.Frank Lampard. Do you think Chelsea will look at this at a moment, it

:18:24. > :18:29.has only been one week. Do you think Chelsea will be thinking, we should

:18:30. > :18:33.have kept him? It is always the risk when an X player plays against their

:18:34. > :18:39.old club. The risk of them scoring and showing them up a bit. I think

:18:40. > :18:44.Frank Lampard was a bit embarrassed to score against Chelsea. He scored

:18:45. > :18:48.again yesterday so he is proving he is still a Premiership player. He

:18:49. > :18:54.has come out and said he wanted to stay at Chelsea, had they offered

:18:55. > :19:00.him a contract. Everyone moves on and Chelsea made their decision. But

:19:01. > :19:05.it will be interesting if Manchester City do keep him because he is meant

:19:06. > :19:08.to be going to New York. But he is proving he is still getting the

:19:09. > :19:13.goals and Chelsea will be looking and thinking, maybe we should have

:19:14. > :19:16.kept him. But they got Cesc Fabregas. A different sort of

:19:17. > :19:23.player, but is there a conspiracy theory, the possibility that as I

:19:24. > :19:30.understand it, Manchester City's owners own the New York club and he

:19:31. > :19:33.is only on loan. Do you think if Manchester City were top of the

:19:34. > :19:40.league in early January, Manuel Pellegrini and the powers that be

:19:41. > :19:49.might say, hang on a minute, we want him to stay here? That is what

:19:50. > :19:53.happens when city are buying these big clubs around the world. Can we

:19:54. > :20:00.keep him? It'll be Frank Lampard's decision as well. But he has scored

:20:01. > :20:04.four goals already. You know full well Frank Lampard will get double

:20:05. > :20:13.figures and that could be massive Manchester City. Do you think there

:20:14. > :20:17.is anything wrong doing that? I feel sorry the city, they thought they

:20:18. > :20:24.were selling him to... But they did not offer him another contract, they

:20:25. > :20:30.cannot dictate where he goes. I understand that, but they let him go

:20:31. > :20:37.for a reason. They think he has gone off to a different club in New York.

:20:38. > :20:43.He is out of the country. Now all sudden, Manchester City can get him

:20:44. > :20:45.back. He is an English player, a homebred player so he comes under

:20:46. > :20:53.the quota of the English rule as well. Off the back of that, I can

:20:54. > :20:57.understand both sides. Manchester City will be desperate to keep him

:20:58. > :21:03.because of the goals. They have David Silva, yah yah Toure, they

:21:04. > :21:09.will create chances for him. He finishes so well. You could argue,

:21:10. > :21:21.it would a similar to Manchester City letting a youngster going

:21:22. > :21:28.abroad, and then Chelsea saying we like the look of him. Then bringing

:21:29. > :21:33.that player to Stamford Bridge. That seems to be have football is going.

:21:34. > :21:38.Usually with loan deals there is always a clause in the deal were a

:21:39. > :21:44.lone player cannot play against their old club. Perhaps from

:21:45. > :21:50.Chelsea's perspective looking into the future that could have been a

:21:51. > :21:53.clause for Frank Lampard. If you sign for Manchester City or an

:21:54. > :21:59.affiliated club to Manchester City, you cannot play in the Premier

:22:00. > :22:06.League. That would get very complicated. It is a regular thing

:22:07. > :22:09.in loan deals. There is the chance for the player for it to become a

:22:10. > :22:15.permanent deal because if they do well and score goals and prove they

:22:16. > :22:20.are at that level, they can play. Frank Lampard is in a winning

:22:21. > :22:24.situation. If he keeps playing well for Manchester City he can be in the

:22:25. > :22:29.Premier League, if he doesn't, he can go and play for New York City.

:22:30. > :22:34.Manuel Pellegrini has said it is inevitable that at some stage that

:22:35. > :22:40.Manchester City will win the Champions' League and they take on

:22:41. > :22:47.Roma this week? That is, as company-macro said, they have one 2

:22:48. > :22:51.Championships, they have one the FA Cup and the Champions' League is the

:22:52. > :22:57.focus for the people that matter at Manchester City. This is their next

:22:58. > :23:02.major ambition. Manuel Pellegrini has said we may not do it this

:23:03. > :23:08.year, but he is expected to lead them further than they have ever

:23:09. > :23:13.been before. They have never got to a semifinal in that competition and

:23:14. > :23:18.this is a test this season. Lots of messages coming in from Southampton

:23:19. > :23:31.fans. They have hit the ground running. Surely it has to be Ronald

:23:32. > :23:40.Koeman, their movements is class. They have won six games on the trot

:23:41. > :23:45.including the game at Arsenal. Good afternoon James, thanks for talking

:23:46. > :23:52.to others. The atmosphere around the club must be fantastic a moment? Of

:23:53. > :23:57.course, to be second in the Premier League is beyond our wildest dreams.

:23:58. > :24:00.We had a great start to the season last year and a difficult summer

:24:01. > :24:06.with players coming and going and it is credit to the club with all of

:24:07. > :24:10.the staff and the players who have come together and shown the quality

:24:11. > :24:14.and we deserve to be there. In the chaos of the summer, what was the

:24:15. > :24:21.first thing Ronald Koeman said to you as a group of players? He said

:24:22. > :24:25.not to worry about the goings-on in the summer, just concentrate on

:24:26. > :24:29.football. The way he has brought in the right sort of players, players

:24:30. > :24:35.who have adapted well to the Premier League and have settled into the

:24:36. > :24:41.team and there is a real good chance the team will grow together. Is

:24:42. > :24:51.training different under him? Physically it is. Pochettino liked

:24:52. > :24:55.to press a bit more and lots of running sessions into the afternoon.

:24:56. > :24:59.But this manager there is lots of short, sharp work. You can see the

:25:00. > :25:04.difference in our performance. We are showing signs we can battle it

:25:05. > :25:09.out in the top half of the Premier League. James I was at Anfield at

:25:10. > :25:15.the start of the season for your game. You showed me you were more

:25:16. > :25:21.than capable of competing. Did you take a lot of confidence although

:25:22. > :25:26.you lost, I thought you should have taken a point at least, if not won

:25:27. > :25:29.that game. Did you take a lot of confidence going forward? In the

:25:30. > :25:35.changing room after the game, we felt we had won the game. First goal

:25:36. > :25:42.of the season against some of the players we have sold. I think we

:25:43. > :25:48.showed great character amongst the team, stick together. We went to a

:25:49. > :25:54.club who had a great season last year. I think we showed why where we

:25:55. > :25:59.are now. I know you are injured now, a lot of Southampton fans will want

:26:00. > :26:05.to know how long you will be out? Around ten weeks, I have an

:26:06. > :26:11.operation tomorrow. Then it is just rehabilitation. It will be a big

:26:12. > :26:16.test for me, this is my first big injury. It will be a test of my

:26:17. > :26:20.character and how I deal with it. I am itching to get back already and

:26:21. > :26:23.it gives me the chance to work on other things I have never worked on

:26:24. > :26:29.before, so I will come back fitter and stronger and be able to get into

:26:30. > :26:34.the team. And outs of the sensational goals, Jagielka that

:26:35. > :26:40.Everton, which would you give as goal of the month costume mark

:26:41. > :26:47.definitely Gratiano. He has settled into the Premier League and we have

:26:48. > :26:51.seen some excellent finishes in training so it was nice to see him

:26:52. > :26:56.do that yesterday. We wish you well with your rehabilitation and we

:26:57. > :27:03.appreciate the time you have taken to talk. What has benefited

:27:04. > :27:07.Southampton is having the new manager, so the whole thing feels

:27:08. > :27:11.like a fresh start will stop yes, with so many players leaving the

:27:12. > :27:17.Southampton, there was a risk the changing room would be depleted.

:27:18. > :27:25.Some players wanted to leave but had to stay. Ronald Truman has come in

:27:26. > :27:30.and said focus on the football, we are moving forward with a new team

:27:31. > :27:46.and new philosophy. I'm sure they will keep growing. They have

:27:47. > :27:57.replaced Rickie Lambert and Pella has scored. Jagielka, it was the

:27:58. > :28:03.last minute of the game and he just hit it. It was a great strike.

:28:04. > :28:07.Jagielka will probably never score that kind of goal again. So you are

:28:08. > :28:14.giving it to Jagielka? I think I will go Pella, because I have seen

:28:15. > :28:18.him play. People said you can score goals in the Dutch league, but when

:28:19. > :28:23.he comes to the Premier League he will find it hard. But he has fitted

:28:24. > :28:28.in as well as any striker other than Diego Costa, but better than any

:28:29. > :28:36.other player that has come from overseas. His first touch to set

:28:37. > :28:42.himself up for that was outstanding. I will go with Jagielka. A lot of

:28:43. > :28:45.people will say you have to put the context of the game, the occasion.

:28:46. > :28:52.Technically, you would go with Pella, but in the last minute of the

:28:53. > :28:57.Merseyside derby, for Jagielka to do that was brilliant. It was hugely

:28:58. > :29:00.important for Everton, psychologically more than anything

:29:01. > :29:05.else to get coming out of back game, otherwise questions would have

:29:06. > :29:10.been asked? I don't think any side were able to exert themselves. They

:29:11. > :29:14.both looked nervous and gave the ball away. Liverpool were probably

:29:15. > :29:19.more threatening on the counterattack. I think the draw

:29:20. > :29:25.probably was the right result. Liverpool looked a bit more dominant

:29:26. > :29:29.and more threatening in the last third. But Everton defended well and

:29:30. > :29:33.kept the ball well. Brendan Rodgers had the demeanour on the final

:29:34. > :29:39.whistle of a man who had lost. I heard you say that, and I thought

:29:40. > :29:46.that could be a significant goal in Liverpool's season, but Jagielka

:29:47. > :29:52.goal. At the moment, they have lost Suarez, Daniel Sturridge is injured

:29:53. > :29:57.and the back four is still looking vulnerable. It just makes me wonder,

:29:58. > :30:02.I am not so sure Steven Gerrard saying this will be our year to win

:30:03. > :30:04.the league. I am not convinced. Does a draw in the north London derby as

:30:05. > :30:14.questions of Arsenal? They will probably be happy with the

:30:15. > :30:21.draw as opposed to Liverpool being disappointed. They have 20 minutes

:30:22. > :30:27.after that on goal to score and it would have been a disaster for

:30:28. > :30:32.Arsenal. But I still do not think Arsenal have the bite in front of

:30:33. > :30:39.goal. Heck of a dummy from Bell back. He might be claiming the

:30:40. > :30:48.assist. -- Welbeck. He has to get some confidence. That is the sign of

:30:49. > :30:55.a striker informed, Arsenal have to get that with Welbeck. George

:30:56. > :30:59.Graham, former manager of both teams, was quite critical of

:31:00. > :31:13.Arsenal, saying they should not be aiming, top four is a given, the

:31:14. > :31:17.title should be the aim. Those derby games convinced me that not one of

:31:18. > :31:20.those teams will win the league, I am even more convinced Manchester

:31:21. > :31:26.City and Chelsea will eventually move away and it will be between

:31:27. > :31:30.them. I totally agree, I have seen Arsenal ended up and they are not of

:31:31. > :31:34.the same standard as city and Chelsea. Looking down at and

:31:35. > :31:40.Everton, where they finished last season, just behind. I cannot see

:31:41. > :31:44.those sides able to compete, this season is going to be about United

:31:45. > :31:53.may be pushing the top four but it will be about city and Chelsea. Mail

:31:54. > :32:01.on Sunday here, saying they must start again with the Academy. They

:32:02. > :32:06.have this new Dutchman, who was an assistant to Louis van Gaal, he says

:32:07. > :32:11.Arsenal want talented players coming through because that has been

:32:12. > :32:16.lacking. They want to develop players better than before. Quite a

:32:17. > :32:21.damning statement about previous regimes. To be honest, if you asked

:32:22. > :32:26.which clubs had a problem bringing thrilling as players I would not say

:32:27. > :32:33.it was Arsenal. Oxlade-Chamberlain, he came from Southampton, but he

:32:34. > :32:37.came into the youth system. Jack Wilshere, I forget his name, the

:32:38. > :32:45.left-back. Kieran Gibbs. These are young players that are Arsenal

:32:46. > :32:48.through and through. I suppose every club can always work on bringing

:32:49. > :32:52.through English players because it is an international league. Clubs

:32:53. > :32:58.always wants to bring in internationals. I wonder whether we

:32:59. > :33:02.take that with a pinch of salt in the same way that whenever a new

:33:03. > :33:06.manager takes over they always say these players are not fit enough.

:33:07. > :33:13.You have 2 to find something wrong with the previous regime. When I

:33:14. > :33:18.first covered Arsenal they always had the best schoolboys, David

:33:19. > :33:24.Rocastle, Michael Thomas, they won the league at Anfield under George

:33:25. > :33:28.Graham. Then in a different phase, Wenger inherited the back four and

:33:29. > :33:47.went out and thought in the Gerry Henris and Patrick Vieiras. --

:33:48. > :33:50.Sierra -- Thierry Henrys. Inode Liam Brady quite well from Ireland, he

:33:51. > :34:00.put everything into developing those players. He has had a say in these

:34:01. > :34:10.players because he has had to try and help developments. One other

:34:11. > :34:13.quote, Steve Morrow came and asked me what type of players I wanted him

:34:14. > :34:20.to look for so I said the best player I have worked on, Xavi. This

:34:21. > :34:24.is a bugbear of mine, I kind of think, all academies seem to be

:34:25. > :34:32.looking for the same type of players. It is all those players.

:34:33. > :34:39.Robotic. Why does an academy boss not saying I want Vincent Kompany?

:34:40. > :34:47.Kevin Kilbane? LAUGHTER Up and down? No. You are looking for

:34:48. > :34:51.the robotic type, players now coming through our very robotic, very

:34:52. > :34:58.similar sort of players. I think all of a sudden now you get players

:34:59. > :35:03.coming in who can make a difference, Jimmy Carrico, these type of

:35:04. > :35:06.players. These are championship winning players. You need them in

:35:07. > :35:14.your side if you want to win the titles. That is what it is. Roy

:35:15. > :35:18.Keane, these sorts of players are what you need when you are winning

:35:19. > :35:23.titles. You are looking at those sort of players but you cannot win

:35:24. > :35:28.with them. It depends on the club philosophy. I watched Liverpool and

:35:29. > :35:34.Everton yesterday and John Stones was outstanding. You could say he

:35:35. > :35:40.was the next Tim Cahill this? Gary Cahill. But for Arsenal or Everton,

:35:41. > :35:43.they have Ross Barkley. Different club floss of these will want to

:35:44. > :35:52.bring through different types of English players. He is perfect for

:35:53. > :36:02.the Arsenal playing style. I think what the manager once, he might say,

:36:03. > :36:07.he might prefer to bring through the Xavi or Vincent Kompany. If you look

:36:08. > :36:13.at John Stones, Ross Barkley, you have Gareth Barry, doing the dirty

:36:14. > :36:22.side of it. West Brom against Burnley is the afternoon game here.

:36:23. > :36:26.The two lowest scoring sides in the Premier League. Dot-macro they

:36:27. > :36:31.played quite well at Tottenham. Everybody said it was about on the

:36:32. > :36:36.performance, but for the first time they had 11 new players, West Brom,

:36:37. > :36:43.the most of anybody. Alan Irvine had to try to mould them and it will

:36:44. > :36:46.take some time. I saw some little signs of recovery last week against

:36:47. > :36:51.Tottenham and Albion have always been described as a yo-yo club but

:36:52. > :36:55.this is their fifth consecutive year in the Premier League so they have

:36:56. > :37:00.settled, just a matter of whether he can shake this new team. Different

:37:01. > :37:09.mentality at Spurs with nothing to lose whereas now you have promoted

:37:10. > :37:13.side at home. In the six games against the promoted sides last year

:37:14. > :37:17.they only won one of them. Burnley will do what West Brom did last week

:37:18. > :37:22.against Tottenham, they will set off and tried to break. The onus is on

:37:23. > :37:26.West Brom today and that is a different mindset from their point

:37:27. > :37:31.of view. They have not scored since the opening game of the season. They

:37:32. > :37:35.are struggling for goals which is always a problem when you are just

:37:36. > :37:44.looking to stay up. That striker, even though 1-0, you need to put it

:37:45. > :37:48.in the net. If you are a Lukas Jutkiewicz, who has come up from the

:37:49. > :37:53.championship, if you are coming up you need the first goal in the top

:37:54. > :37:58.flight to get your confidence. 's to settle your nerves and make you

:37:59. > :38:03.realise you can do it. I can score goals in this league and I can score

:38:04. > :38:09.for this team. Just one and hopefully they can kick on. How

:38:10. > :38:14.nervous will Alan Pardew be going into the Monday night game? This

:38:15. > :38:20.story seems to have come and gone. I bumped into Mike Ashley, somebody

:38:21. > :38:30.said, what chance has it got of keeping his job and Mike, who has a

:38:31. > :38:34.distinct sense of humour, said, he was one game away from the sack but

:38:35. > :38:39.they were saying that last week. Everybody would access including

:38:40. > :38:43.Alan Pardew, he is not the most secure manager in the Premier

:38:44. > :38:48.League. Stoke-Newcastle is an interesting one.

:38:49. > :38:48.League. Stoke-Newcastle is an patches they are coming into a bit

:38:49. > :39:01.from home, that is unlike Stoke. The Sunday Mirror saying David Moyes is

:39:02. > :39:10.from home, that is unlike Stoke. The being lined up for Newcastle. That

:39:11. > :39:18.will not go away from budget. I think last week they showed a little

:39:19. > :39:23.bit of bottle last week to get that result, Papiss Cisse comes on, he

:39:24. > :39:33.has not been scoring. Give Alan Pardew credit. There is a negative

:39:34. > :39:41.feeling around the place. David Moyes would go there? I don't know.

:39:42. > :39:47.Do you have an inkling, do you know him? It is the sort of job. Have you

:39:48. > :39:56.spoken to him, basically! I have not. He would be the first to say, a

:39:57. > :39:59.manager in the job, I would not want to be speculating because he has

:40:00. > :40:04.respect for other managers but it is the sort of job that if he did go

:40:05. > :40:08.into he would thrive on. It is his sort of job where he would need to

:40:09. > :40:17.galvanise a club that has been struggling. He wants to be in charge

:40:18. > :40:21.of a thing like he was at Manchester United but at the moment the

:40:22. > :40:25.Newcastle system indicates that is not the case. If he was to go

:40:26. > :40:29.there, I appreciate Pardew is still in the job, he would expect things

:40:30. > :40:33.to change? Perhaps that is a conversation he has to have with

:40:34. > :40:42.Mike Ashley if he is in the running for the job. David Moyes would be

:40:43. > :40:47.more suited to a club like Newcastle, it is the same as

:40:48. > :40:53.Everton. Expectation was too big him at Manchester United. But at

:40:54. > :40:58.everything he did well. He made the team stabling the top half of table.

:40:59. > :41:05.Newcastle would be a better fit for him and maybe his style of

:41:06. > :41:08.management. Neil Lennon could be a candidate if it came to that but

:41:09. > :41:13.Alan Pardew has been digging his heels in. It cannot be easy coming

:41:14. > :41:20.out and doing those interviews when you are that far-away people say

:41:21. > :41:25.from this being your last game. I think it becomes a good Monday night

:41:26. > :41:37.game. These comments come out after what has been a better week the

:41:38. > :41:43.Newcastle. Would you go for Newcastle or Stoke? I will go for

:41:44. > :41:49.the draw. I cannot see beyond the draw, sitting on the fence. Let's

:41:50. > :41:53.finish by talking about the Indian women, they have qualified for the

:41:54. > :41:58.World Cup winning all ten matches in qualifying. Do you look at that,

:41:59. > :42:05.playing devils advocate, as a brilliant performance or that you

:42:06. > :42:09.were not tested? You could say that but I think the age-old saying that

:42:10. > :42:15.you have 2 beta who is in front of you. We scored a lot of goals and

:42:16. > :42:19.only conceded once. That is a response to Mark Sampson, his

:42:20. > :42:24.playing style. It is a very attacking playing style, we talked a

:42:25. > :42:29.lot about bravery and courage. Just as players in general we are having

:42:30. > :42:34.to really force ourselves to be creative and do new things. That has

:42:35. > :42:39.happened as a result of us scoring more. Does that go against instinct,

:42:40. > :42:45.forcing yourself to be more creative. Maybe in the past that has

:42:46. > :42:50.been stifled? I would say so, playing styles are different under

:42:51. > :42:54.different managers. Players being safe under different managers. Mark

:42:55. > :42:59.putts playing style, he talks about just being brave, if you're going to

:43:00. > :43:03.make a mistake at least you have the intent to try to attack and score

:43:04. > :43:07.goals and for a strike a striker you need that. You need to say, I will

:43:08. > :43:10.have ten shots and hopefully one or two will go with rather than only

:43:11. > :43:15.shooting when you think it will definitely go in. In terms of our

:43:16. > :43:22.qualification that has been a real aspect of it. The attacking aspect

:43:23. > :43:27.of us winning. Thank you all for coming on the show. Kevin will be

:43:28. > :43:29.back with me later, and West Brom against Burnley will be an sports

:43:30. > :43:34.extra from 4pm. See you next week.
