0:00:32 > 0:00:395Live, the BBC Sport website and app, as well as the iPlayer.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41With me, former Newcastle and Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given,

0:00:41 > 0:00:47former Everton and Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott,

0:00:47 > 0:00:48and the Mirror's football writer John Cross.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58Coming up over the next 45 minutes...

0:00:58 > 0:01:05Was that as calm a three points as Jose Mourinho suggests?

0:01:05 > 0:01:09Manchester United beat Spurs in the big game of the weekend.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12West Ham got a lesson in how not to hold out for a win,

0:01:12 > 0:01:15as Slaven Bilic's side concede in the final minute to only draw

0:01:15 > 0:01:16with Crystal Palace.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18And we're at the day's two Premier League games

0:01:18 > 0:01:21as Brighton face Southampton, and Claude Puel begins his Leicester

0:01:21 > 0:01:22career at home to Everton.

0:01:22 > 0:01:26We will keep you across Birmingham against Aston Villa, which is

0:01:26 > 0:01:28goalless after 15 minutes.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30The newspaper headlines are dominated by England

0:01:30 > 0:01:31under-17's World Cup triumph.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33The Sunday Times labels them "Kings of the World".

0:01:33 > 0:01:38The Observer has Jose Mourinho telling his critics to pipe down

0:01:38 > 0:01:40after the win over Tottenham.

0:01:40 > 0:01:46And the Sunday Mirror headlines "Freebie Sanchez",

0:01:46 > 0:01:48saying Manchester City want to sign Alexis Sanchez for free

0:01:48 > 0:01:56in the summer, and won't go back Arsenal in January.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59We're going to start with those events in Kolkata and England's

0:01:59 > 0:02:00under-17s winning the World Cup.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03They beat Spain 5-2 to lift the trophy, having been 2-0 down.

0:02:03 > 0:02:09Phil Foden of Manchester City scored two of the goals.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11And remember, victory over Spain in the final followed beating

0:02:11 > 0:02:12Brazil in the semi-finals.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15The win means England are now world champions at both

0:02:15 > 0:02:20under-17 and under-20 level, European champions at under-19

0:02:20 > 0:02:24level, and finalists in the European under-21 championship.

0:02:24 > 0:02:31The question now is how many of these players will we see

0:02:31 > 0:02:36playing Premier League football in the next few years.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39Shay given, given the record, they have to win something at senior

0:02:39 > 0:02:44level in the next six or seven years? As an Irish man it is hard

0:02:44 > 0:02:48for me today that it is fantastic for England! That is why I came to

0:02:48 > 0:02:52first!Congratulations to them, they will be buzzing this morning,

0:02:52 > 0:02:57especially the context of the final, two goals down, it is a learning

0:02:57 > 0:03:00curve and all this, but in the second half they came out, scored

0:03:00 > 0:03:06just before half-time, started the second half flying, what a fantastic

0:03:06 > 0:03:11result. But, as you say, they have won three major tournaments at under

0:03:11 > 0:03:15age level this summer alone and now the next crop of fantastic young

0:03:15 > 0:03:18English players coming through. Before we look at the bigger picture

0:03:18 > 0:03:21we can expand on that because we were sailing off air they looked

0:03:21 > 0:03:26like they were genuinely enjoying it yesterday, even as they were

0:03:26 > 0:03:29striving to get back in the game, there was never any panic, they just

0:03:29 > 0:03:42kept playing their game and they seemed very relaxed, very happy, I

0:03:42 > 0:03:45suppose?They looked like they had been told to go out and express

0:03:45 > 0:03:47themselves, and that is exactly what they did. 2-0 down, not fazed, they

0:03:47 > 0:03:50dominated with the goal before half-time, they thoroughly deserved

0:03:50 > 0:03:55to win, even at 3-2, 4-2, they kept pushing forward, Spain looked more

0:03:55 > 0:03:59tired, the confidence started to show, they were expressing

0:03:59 > 0:04:06themselves.People said to me that the -- Steve Cooper said to me, the

0:04:06 > 0:04:09England under-17 manager, we don't think about failure, as in what is

0:04:09 > 0:04:13happening with the senior teams over many years, we embrace the fact that

0:04:13 > 0:04:18we have the chance to win something, and that has always been the

0:04:18 > 0:04:23mentality?Absolutely, and the FA can point to St George's Park and

0:04:23 > 0:04:26the circumstance and situated around that, and developing players. You

0:04:26 > 0:04:34are reaping the benefits of that, the under 20s, Triumph for them, I

0:04:34 > 0:04:40think there is a certain expectation in the under-17s, that this

0:04:40 > 0:04:43generation is bleeding through and can hopefully make it. It is

0:04:43 > 0:04:51interesting, the Chelsea, Man City dominating through the numbers of

0:04:51 > 0:04:55it, a number of the squad.Seven of the starting XI yesterday were

0:04:55 > 0:05:00Chelsea or Manchester City.If you contrast that to Spain, it is eight

0:05:00 > 0:05:04between Barcelona and Real Madrid, so you are seeing similar numbers

0:05:04 > 0:05:08but how many can actually get through to the seniors? That is a

0:05:08 > 0:05:12challenge but also what is the pathway into the seniors, the club

0:05:12 > 0:05:17team?The point there with Chelsea and city is plaudits to both clubs,

0:05:17 > 0:05:21because they have developed those kids into what they are at the

0:05:21 > 0:05:27moment.They have come through, haven't they?So then they have got

0:05:27 > 0:05:33to go again.Comparing them to the Spain setup, they are teams that

0:05:33 > 0:05:38play in the lower leagues, that helps, playing against people at a

0:05:38 > 0:05:41younger age, that helps develop them, that is something that maybe

0:05:41 > 0:05:47as a nation we need to look at, how to develop the kids. The next

0:05:47 > 0:05:51question, can they bring that to senior level? People asked, why

0:05:51 > 0:05:56can't the senior England team play like the under age teens, but it is

0:05:56 > 0:06:01the freedom, the confidence, yes, they were 2-0 down, but they say,

0:06:01 > 0:06:05keep playing, keep attacking. If England were 2-0 down in a major

0:06:05 > 0:06:10tournament, the senior team, it would be like, just try to keep it

0:06:10 > 0:06:15at two, lad! It is quite refreshing that the younger lads say, we are

0:06:15 > 0:06:20going to get back into this, and the next question is whether they can

0:06:20 > 0:06:23bring this into international football and club football as well.

0:06:23 > 0:06:27Phil Foden is probably the wrong example because Pep Guardiola has

0:06:27 > 0:06:30used him in pre-season, we will hear from him in a moment, said that is

0:06:30 > 0:06:34maybe the wrong example but if you were at another club and one of

0:06:34 > 0:06:38those kids had done what they did in the under-17s yesterday, how much,

0:06:38 > 0:06:42as a senior pro, would you be in the year of your club manager saying, at

0:06:42 > 0:06:47least get him involved in training? It depends if he is playing in your

0:06:47 > 0:06:54position! You would always try and help them, you can see with Phil

0:06:54 > 0:07:00Foden that they respect and rate him highly. I'm sure all the players

0:07:00 > 0:07:04there.But will he get a regular start at Man City with the players

0:07:04 > 0:07:10and team they have?I think he trains with them pretty much every

0:07:10 > 0:07:15day, so that is obviously the first step, then it goes too, are you

0:07:15 > 0:07:19performing everyday? It is just progression because they are still

0:07:19 > 0:07:23young kids, they will still be inconsistency of the natural

0:07:23 > 0:07:26progression is, can they perform, are they playing well in training

0:07:26 > 0:07:29every day?Let's hear from Pep Guardiola, this is what he said

0:07:29 > 0:07:34after Man City's win yesterday on Phil Foden.

0:07:34 > 0:07:40He's an English player, he loves Manchester City. We will try to do

0:07:40 > 0:07:48everything to help them. Unfortunately he played in a

0:07:48 > 0:07:52competition where the competition is not... He deserves to play to grow

0:07:52 > 0:07:59but of course he is our player, you will be a player for the next years,

0:07:59 > 0:08:03I'm sure of that, so I'm happy for England, of course, for him, it is

0:08:03 > 0:08:09important for English football, especially the young players like

0:08:09 > 0:08:14Phil, 17, 19, 21, they can achieve finals, semifinals, because that guy

0:08:14 > 0:08:17will grow.

0:08:17 > 0:08:21It is interesting he talks about the different levels of competitiveness.

0:08:21 > 0:08:27We had this discussion on the sofa last week in relation to Harry

0:08:27 > 0:08:29Winks, Pochettino kept Harry Winks at birth because he felt he would

0:08:29 > 0:08:34benefit more from his coaching and being with the first-team there and

0:08:34 > 0:08:37not getting bad habits from maybe going out on loan and being coached

0:08:37 > 0:08:43differently. It is a difficult decision for managers to make?It is

0:08:43 > 0:08:45a fine balancing act and I think there is a tendency to be critical

0:08:45 > 0:08:50of clubs like Man City and Chelsea which is totally missing the point,

0:08:50 > 0:08:54because the tendency is to criticise them because they are not making the

0:08:54 > 0:09:00first team. Actually, look at it in a positive way that they are

0:09:00 > 0:09:03producing these kids and producing brilliantly technical talented kids,

0:09:03 > 0:09:07and then it is maybe the failings, I guess, not so much of the first-team

0:09:07 > 0:09:12but the whole system at moment, Premier League team for me is a

0:09:12 > 0:09:23waste of time...The under 23 the? Complete waste of time. I think we

0:09:23 > 0:09:31miss the old reserve team setup when basically...When old pros played...

0:09:31 > 0:09:35If you did not play on a Saturday you played a reserve game in the

0:09:35 > 0:09:39week. No disrespect to the under 23 's lead, you have played against the

0:09:39 > 0:09:47same players for the previous three or four years, under 19 is, U21, you

0:09:47 > 0:09:49play against the same players and I think the progression then is being

0:09:49 > 0:09:56in the League Cup, I'm not sure of the name of it...League Cup will

0:09:56 > 0:10:06do!It is a competition that it means more to the lads.I don't

0:10:06 > 0:10:10know, it is hard to say what to do, Guardiola made the point that it is

0:10:10 > 0:10:18not being carried away, it is only the under-17s, but it is refreshing,

0:10:18 > 0:10:21the Manchester Scouts are worldwide, Brandywell, but this guy is a local

0:10:21 > 0:10:28guy.He is a true blue.It would be great if he could be a regular in

0:10:28 > 0:10:31the first-team, if they could not send him out on road and bring him

0:10:31 > 0:10:33into the first-team and blossom in the first team in the Premier

0:10:33 > 0:10:38League, that would be fantastic. Clare says, under-17 players play

0:10:38 > 0:10:43Premier League in a few years, realistically probably five. Things

0:10:43 > 0:10:49have to change. Interestingly the England under-17s ten years ago

0:10:49 > 0:10:53reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup, four of that squad are

0:10:53 > 0:10:57playing Premier League football, Danny Welbeck, Danny Rose, Victor

0:10:57 > 0:11:00Moses and Dan Gosling. Marcus says the under-17s should

0:11:00 > 0:11:03broaden their horizons, be willing to play in the other big leagues.

0:11:03 > 0:11:07The Premier League is not the be all and end all and German clubs are

0:11:07 > 0:11:12certainly skipping around, we have already seen Sancho go.Absolutely,

0:11:12 > 0:11:15he is a brilliant talent and obviously just felt that moving to

0:11:15 > 0:11:24Dortmund was a better option than staying at City.He is getting game

0:11:24 > 0:11:26time now. No disrespect, I don't think he would have made his debut

0:11:26 > 0:11:30at City this year, where he has obviously made his debut for

0:11:30 > 0:11:34Dortmund.Talking about the old reserve league, be honest here, at

0:11:34 > 0:11:37the end of your career, if you had not played on Saturday, would you

0:11:37 > 0:11:44have happily turned out on a Tuesday...Good question!You are

0:11:44 > 0:11:52next! As a senior pro?Yes, because it would have been expense, I spoke

0:11:52 > 0:11:57to Man City about doing that with them now because you learn more, if

0:11:57 > 0:12:03we are both 17-year-olds, I make a mistake, you don't know what I

0:12:03 > 0:12:07should have done. Playing with those players and against those players, I

0:12:07 > 0:12:11can learn and help teach them, that is the kind of thing, when I was a

0:12:11 > 0:12:15young player, playing against players, disappointed not to be

0:12:15 > 0:12:18playing obviously, but it was helping me out.Do you think you

0:12:18 > 0:12:24were in a minority, that you would be in a minority?Possibly. I can't

0:12:24 > 0:12:28imagine every player looking forward to a reserve game. And I understand

0:12:28 > 0:12:34that, but that is the way it goes. Your love for the game is

0:12:34 > 0:12:40everything, it is a game of football.Would you? When you were

0:12:40 > 0:12:44at Stoke, would you have gone and played in a reserve team game to

0:12:44 > 0:12:50help two 18-year-olds centre halves? I have done in the past, to help

0:12:50 > 0:12:57younger players, but it is different for gold keepers because players

0:12:57 > 0:13:00need to keep their match fitness, but we just stand there with our

0:13:00 > 0:13:06hands in the air! It is difficult to coach and work on that in training,

0:13:06 > 0:13:10but, I don't know, coming back to what John says, I think the setup of

0:13:10 > 0:13:14the under 23 thing doesn't seem to work. I don't know why they had to

0:13:14 > 0:13:19revolutionise it or change it, it was fine beforehand. The bigger

0:13:19 > 0:13:23picture is the Premier League and the FA have a certain amount of

0:13:23 > 0:13:26English players within the 25 man squad, I don't know how strong it

0:13:26 > 0:13:30can be to bring that into the Premier League because there are so

0:13:30 > 0:13:41many foreign players coming in and people say it is a foreign league,

0:13:41 > 0:13:43the English Premier League. Tottenham do send players out on

0:13:43 > 0:13:45loan simply to get football, which is supposed to be the replication of

0:13:45 > 0:13:48the old reserve league. If you drop down the championship, League 1,

0:13:48 > 0:13:51that is what they are trying to do. It is difficult with Harry Winks, he

0:13:51 > 0:13:53is an outstanding talent who is a more technical player, he would

0:13:53 > 0:13:57probably get kicked all over the place in the championship.

0:13:57 > 0:14:01Pochettino is brilliant for bringing kids through, obviously feels that

0:14:01 > 0:14:07Harry Winks' needs are different. We will go to Saint Andrews shortly to

0:14:07 > 0:14:15bring an update on the Birmingham derby, goalless at the moment. Text

0:14:15 > 0:14:19us or use the hashtag if you wish to get in touch.

0:14:19 > 0:14:21So now to the big Premier League stories, and we'll

0:14:21 > 0:14:23start at Old Trafford.

0:14:23 > 0:14:25It ended with Jose Mourinho shushing us.

0:14:25 > 0:14:28He said it was to show everyone should be calm.

0:14:28 > 0:14:31But what might have been another inquest into more points dropped

0:14:31 > 0:14:33ended with a fifth straight home league win without conceding a goal,

0:14:33 > 0:14:37against a Harry Kane-less Tottenham.

0:14:37 > 0:14:44We can hear from both managers. Both teams tried to win but I think both

0:14:44 > 0:14:53teams feared the opponent because it could hurt at any moment. So I think

0:14:53 > 0:14:58a game with a motion, with everything, probably one goal in the

0:14:58 > 0:15:04first half would make even a better game. The team is competing in a

0:15:04 > 0:15:12very good way. Of course Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the

0:15:12 > 0:15:17world, that we cannot hide, but I think the team is ready to fight,

0:15:17 > 0:15:25last season we had Harry Kane, the team can beat very good, but of

0:15:25 > 0:15:38course you are going to miss your best striker.

0:15:38 > 0:15:44Jose Marini, who we heard from first. He said it is the 90 minutes

0:15:44 > 0:15:50on the pitch. All the noise around football doesn't matter. Some people

0:15:50 > 0:15:57speak too much, he said. Calm down, relax, don't speak too much, don't

0:15:57 > 0:16:03be so nervous, don't be so excited. Just stay calm.People having a go,

0:16:03 > 0:16:08especially with the Liverpool game a couple of weeks ago. Manchester

0:16:08 > 0:16:12United, one of the biggest clubs in the world. One of the favourites for

0:16:12 > 0:16:18the title, you go to Anfield and you could argue Liverpool's week as

0:16:18 > 0:16:22point is their defence. Why not go and have a go and try and score more

0:16:22 > 0:16:29goals. We look at the trophies he has one, what he's done in his

0:16:29 > 0:16:33career, he is an experienced manager. The balance of being a

0:16:33 > 0:16:36Manchester United manager and being a manager somewhere else is a tricky

0:16:36 > 0:16:44one.Did you say the pens being sharpened in anticipation of a

0:16:44 > 0:16:50goalless straw with ten minutes to go, John Cross?Yes, I thought it

0:16:50 > 0:16:58was a disappointment, we had built it up as the game of the weekend.

0:16:58 > 0:17:05What Jose Mourinho is referring to is having his ego pricked a bit

0:17:05 > 0:17:17because of what praise Porcher Tino is getting at the moment. He hasn't

0:17:17 > 0:17:25said this, but, would it be fair to say there would be an inconsistency

0:17:25 > 0:17:30with Manchester United goalless at Liverpool and the Manchester United

0:17:30 > 0:17:37getting the criticism over that game and then goalless at Spurs and

0:17:37 > 0:17:43getting the criticism for that as well? The inconsistency is, you are

0:17:43 > 0:17:46Manchester United. Manchester United, the expectation has been to

0:17:46 > 0:17:53go away to places, not only just to win but do it with style. Yesterday

0:17:53 > 0:18:04was...They are not.The expectation doesn't change.I am with Jose

0:18:04 > 0:18:12Mourinho on this little bit, they got him because they to win. Pep

0:18:12 > 0:18:16Guardiola and Barcelona, you want to get back to winning ways and that is

0:18:16 > 0:18:20more important to Manchester United than playing attractive football.

0:18:20 > 0:18:24Let's get back to winning ways and when we are winning regular, then

0:18:24 > 0:18:28you can say you want to win with a bit of style. That is what he's

0:18:28 > 0:18:36doing at the moment. Last year they won three cup competitions.I am not

0:18:36 > 0:18:42trying to get you to alienate your fans, but as a defender, could you

0:18:42 > 0:18:47have seen yourself improving under him, would you like to have played

0:18:47 > 0:18:50under him?He has managed the top teams in the world. If you're

0:18:50 > 0:18:58working with Jose Mourinho...Do his defenders improve under him?I think

0:18:58 > 0:19:02his defensive record is second to none but they don't play the same

0:19:02 > 0:19:07way, they don't aim to score three or four goals every game. Like the

0:19:07 > 0:19:10comparison is the Manchester City and Manchester United is hard at the

0:19:10 > 0:19:14moment for Jose Mourinho Yobe to win that way of playing, they are not

0:19:14 > 0:19:21going to do that, they don't try and played the same kind of football.

0:19:21 > 0:19:31Are you surprised Spurs didn't play Llorente yesterday?Yes. Obviously

0:19:31 > 0:19:42Kane wasn't available. My argument, why didn't he start with Llorente

0:19:42 > 0:19:46yesterday? If he is a like-for-like replacement, I understand Old

0:19:46 > 0:19:52Trafford is a difficult place to go, but why when you go there, don't you

0:19:52 > 0:19:57play with Llorente. He has played for the biggest teams in Europe so

0:19:57 > 0:20:02he's used to that occasion, he is a Spanish international, no reason for

0:20:02 > 0:20:14him not to play.Do you think Gareth Southgate will be watching?Ashley

0:20:14 > 0:20:19Young, his level of performance in recent times, he has been rewarded

0:20:19 > 0:20:24with the captain's armband on occasion. He has been outstanding.

0:20:24 > 0:20:28He is combative. He went for a yesterday, had a real tear up with

0:20:28 > 0:20:33Dele Alli. Knees so consistent and has been around the England setup

0:20:33 > 0:20:38and has been an England regular. If he doesn't get the call on Thursday,

0:20:38 > 0:20:44he must be questioning is it Gareth Southgate who has something against

0:20:44 > 0:20:47me.He does deserve the England recall. He does deserve it but I

0:20:47 > 0:20:54don't think he is going to get it. James Milner, playing outstandingly

0:20:54 > 0:21:07for Liverpool at left-back and never got look that. And also Delph. If

0:21:07 > 0:21:13you are playing for the big clubs, you should be in the England squad.

0:21:13 > 0:21:16The first Premier League football of the day is on the south coast.

0:21:16 > 0:21:19Brighton are at home to Southampton, and Steve Wilson is at the Amex

0:21:19 > 0:21:21for tonight's Match Of The Day 2.

0:21:21 > 0:21:24Good afternoon. We are here for Brighton & Hove Albion against

0:21:24 > 0:21:31Southampton. Steve Sidwell is injured at the moment, but you must

0:21:31 > 0:21:37be pleased with the way this season has started, because teams sometimes

0:21:37 > 0:21:42need to adjust to the Premier League but Brighton have them that quickly?

0:21:42 > 0:21:49100%. The majority of the squad, it is a group of players who

0:21:49 > 0:21:52individually have not performed in the Premier League, so it is all new

0:21:52 > 0:21:58to them and we have hit the ground running. We have shown in our games

0:21:58 > 0:22:02so far we have been involved and we have been involved in the match

0:22:02 > 0:22:07right to the death, near enough so that is a positive sign. We have

0:22:07 > 0:22:11slowly got there and picked up points away from home, which is key.

0:22:11 > 0:22:15Home form will be the one where we'll be looking to pick up most of

0:22:15 > 0:22:20points, obviously.Premier League Knauss, you have bundles of that

0:22:20 > 0:22:24over the course of your career, but you were a bright player as a

0:22:24 > 0:22:32teenager on loan and you are coming back to a club that is

0:22:32 > 0:22:39unrecognisable?Yes, chalk and cheese from when I was here as a

0:22:39 > 0:22:4419-year-old. Now this fantastic facility, the training ground is

0:22:44 > 0:22:48worthy of Premiership status. It is geared up for Premier League

0:22:48 > 0:22:52football, the infrastructure is there, now it is maintaining it and

0:22:52 > 0:22:57that will be the hard part, but we are giving it a good go at the

0:22:57 > 0:23:01moment.The three teams that a up bar eighth, 11 and 12 in the table.

0:23:01 > 0:23:05Sometimes by the time a newly promoted team get themselves sorted

0:23:05 > 0:23:10out in the Premier League, the gap is too big to make up and they never

0:23:10 > 0:23:14recover. But all three teams who came up have started well. Do you

0:23:14 > 0:23:18think the gap is not as big as people suggest or is it good

0:23:18 > 0:23:24management and spending power?It is continued from last season, a

0:23:24 > 0:23:27winning mentality. It is a big step up to the Premier League but the

0:23:27 > 0:23:31winning mentality is that to play the football we were playing last

0:23:31 > 0:23:35year in the championship. You look at this year, the Premier League,

0:23:35 > 0:23:40there is a lot of teams not playing to their standards and be have shown

0:23:40 > 0:23:45that this year and hence, look at the table and wider teams who have

0:23:45 > 0:23:49come up are doing so well and where they stand. You're back injury, when

0:23:49 > 0:23:57can we see you in action? It is hard to put a time frame, it is nerve

0:23:57 > 0:24:01damage so you have to take it one step at a time. It is harder for me

0:24:01 > 0:24:07because I want to rush, but it is building blocks and slowly, surely

0:24:07 > 0:24:10does it.Brighton versus Southampton, watch the highlights on

0:24:10 > 0:24:14Match Of The Day 2 this evening.

0:24:14 > 0:24:15Thank you to Steve and Steve.

0:24:15 > 0:24:20So let's get the team news for this game, from Alistair Bruce-Ball.

0:24:20 > 0:24:27All positive for Brighton at the moment. Their manager has named an

0:24:27 > 0:24:32unchanged team after the 3-0 win at West Ham. So the record signing

0:24:32 > 0:24:35starts again on the left. Glenn Murray through the middle. A few

0:24:35 > 0:24:41changes for Southampton. Sofyan Amrabat fell, the wonder goal

0:24:41 > 0:24:46against West Brom gets his second Premier League start of the season.

0:24:46 > 0:24:52So running at over to your manager, thumping your chest and shouting me,

0:24:52 > 0:25:00pick me, it works. It isn't all Dutch centre-back pairing. A big

0:25:00 > 0:25:04loss for Southampton is Mario Lemina, out injured.James

0:25:04 > 0:25:10Ward-Prowse replaces him in the midfield. Thank you. Plenty of

0:25:10 > 0:25:14updates on five live sport. Fraser Forster has had an uncomfortable

0:25:14 > 0:25:20start, has been getting some criticism. How difficult is it when

0:25:20 > 0:25:26you are in an isolated position as a goalkeeper, Shay Given? It is a

0:25:26 > 0:25:32confidence thing. He had a difficult start, you look and think could he

0:25:32 > 0:25:36have done better? It is the position where nobody can help you out but

0:25:36 > 0:25:41yourself. I know him very well from my Newcastle days and he works as

0:25:41 > 0:25:48hard as any professional footballer I have come across. At this stage in

0:25:48 > 0:25:53his career, it is all about what is going on between his ears. If he

0:25:53 > 0:25:57clears his mind, stays in the present and gets mentally tough, he

0:25:57 > 0:26:03will be fine.Is the last thing he needs is to be pulled out of the

0:26:03 > 0:26:08firing line?I think so, he is in the England setup and an experienced

0:26:08 > 0:26:13goalkeeper. He needs his manager to support him. He's playing him every

0:26:13 > 0:26:18week and he will get through that. Just one game for a fantastic

0:26:18 > 0:26:20performance and then he builds on that and his confidence is back

0:26:20 > 0:26:29again.Mario Mola mean is a big loss?Massa. He looks like he's

0:26:29 > 0:26:35played in the Premier League for years. The Birmingham derby is

0:26:35 > 0:26:43underway.Robin is at St Andrews. Five minutes ago and goalless. We

0:26:43 > 0:26:47have had Che Adams and Robert Snodgrass booked for a set too early

0:26:47 > 0:26:53on. Birmingham could be ahead, Sam Johnstone, the Villa goalkeeper

0:26:53 > 0:26:58nearly embarrassed firing a goal at a Birmingham player which then went

0:26:58 > 0:27:02just wide of the post.Let's move on to the game at Selhurst Park

0:27:02 > 0:27:12yesterday.

0:27:19 > 0:27:27I cannot believe we have done that. We have come in quick after the

0:27:27 > 0:27:30game. Probably shouldn't have come in quick after the game. We fought

0:27:30 > 0:27:33all the way to the end like that and then been so unprofessional at the

0:27:33 > 0:27:39end.He last speech as now, is it speechless in the dressing room?A

0:27:39 > 0:27:46little bit. No body does things on purpose in this team, but two points

0:27:46 > 0:27:52dropped, simple as that.He is always a good post match interview,

0:27:52 > 0:28:01Joe Hart. He wears his heart on his sleeve, no pun intended. He is

0:28:01 > 0:28:07always honest, unprofessional, big words. What is he doing in the

0:28:07 > 0:28:12corner, he romps to the corner flag. You should ask why so many West Ham

0:28:12 > 0:28:19players are in the opposing penalty box in the 97th minute. Why Antonio

0:28:19 > 0:28:27has to put in a cross to launch another attack when he can just play

0:28:27 > 0:28:32it out. If he had played it out, because it was so late in the game,

0:28:32 > 0:28:39the revelry would have probably blown his whistle. Joe Hart showed

0:28:39 > 0:28:44what a top goalkeeper he is. He clearly has had dips, but he made

0:28:44 > 0:28:50about five or six world-class saves. He is fantastic and that is why he

0:28:50 > 0:28:55was newly crying in the interview. He was nearly crying.Because he

0:28:55 > 0:29:00played so well and he got some criticism over the last few months

0:29:00 > 0:29:04for England and what have you, but yesterday he was phenomenal. But is

0:29:04 > 0:29:09the Joe Hart we know, making unbelievable saves. I felt for him

0:29:09 > 0:29:13at the end because he would have grabbed the headlines today and

0:29:13 > 0:29:16rightly so, because of his performance, now we are talking

0:29:16 > 0:29:21about Antonio and what he should and shouldn't have done. But the

0:29:21 > 0:29:24unprofessional line be accepted in the dressing room because you would

0:29:24 > 0:29:30accept you had throw it away? From him, because he is professional. If

0:29:30 > 0:29:33it was somebody not as professional as him saying those things, you can

0:29:33 > 0:29:38question it but Joe Hart wears his heart on his sleeve and there will

0:29:38 > 0:29:46be a lot of disappointed players are not dressing room but you can take

0:29:46 > 0:29:51criticism of your peers if you respect them.Tweets coming in,

0:29:51 > 0:29:55Antonio Lotz stood the two points, so ridiculous not to keep the ball

0:29:55 > 0:30:00in the corner. Tom Jordan says, coming back from 2-0 against Spurs

0:30:00 > 0:30:05and then drawing with the worst team in the lead. Mark on Twitter says it

0:30:05 > 0:30:13is things like this that cost managers their job. Adam Dyer on

0:30:13 > 0:30:17Twitter, not good enough, it is time for a change at West Ham.

0:30:17 > 0:30:21It is a very difficult one, it is a difficult week to sum up for West

0:30:21 > 0:30:26Ham?

0:30:26 > 0:30:30It is ridiculous, I do feel for village at the moment. He needed a

0:30:30 > 0:30:34hope that the full-time whistle!I think there have been points this

0:30:34 > 0:30:37season when he thought, do I go or am I going to be pushed? He has been

0:30:37 > 0:30:42that bad. One of those occasions was after the Brighton game, I don't

0:30:42 > 0:30:45think he has at any point lost the dressing room or the players, I

0:30:45 > 0:30:51think they've responded with that incredible fightback as they showed

0:30:51 > 0:30:55at Wembley, and then yesterday, where did you get to with that?

0:30:55 > 0:30:59Sometimes village can be down and I do feel sorry for him but I think he

0:30:59 > 0:31:03has an expectation not just from the fans but the owners which I think is

0:31:03 > 0:31:06incredibly unfair at times and I think it has been difficult for him

0:31:06 > 0:31:10to manage and come through, but I still think they will stick with

0:31:10 > 0:31:15him, I think their tendency is to stick with managers, the owners, and

0:31:15 > 0:31:19I think that is the right thing to do.What I would say, after the

0:31:19 > 0:31:23defeat to Brighton, if the argument was, they are not working hard, not

0:31:23 > 0:31:27playing for the manager, not putting in the high-intensity runs, not

0:31:27 > 0:31:30covering the distance, which was all discussed on double Spurs game. The

0:31:30 > 0:31:35Spurs game they fall from two down, the second half yesterday was

0:31:35 > 0:31:39fantastic, partly through West Ham's defending, putting their bodies on

0:31:39 > 0:31:44the line, blocking everything, so even though it is two points

0:31:44 > 0:31:48dropped, they still did what, arguably, they hadn't been doing in

0:31:48 > 0:31:53the Brighton game?Of course, and I think the decision made yesterday,

0:31:53 > 0:31:59it wasn't anyone's desire, it was a bit of inexperience showing, I don't

0:31:59 > 0:32:02think you can even look at the manager and criticise anything he

0:32:02 > 0:32:06has done for that one lack of judgment from Antonia not to keep

0:32:06 > 0:32:10the ball in the corner and I think it is just obviously the

0:32:10 > 0:32:14circumstances around West Ham is bigger than this one performance.

0:32:14 > 0:32:16Yes, he was distraught after, you saw him walking off the pitch

0:32:16 > 0:32:20shaking his head and as a manager you prepare all we can do this, you

0:32:20 > 0:32:23put in a great performance in the second half, and you shoot yourself

0:32:23 > 0:32:26in the foot in the last seconds of the game, especially away from home,

0:32:26 > 0:32:31you could see how frustrating it was. But for all managers, it seems

0:32:31 > 0:32:35every week a manager is getting fired, under pressure, who is next

0:32:35 > 0:32:40ago, the bookies have a favourite, it is a thankless job.It would be

0:32:40 > 0:32:43interesting to know what the Crystal Palace texts and tweets would have

0:32:43 > 0:32:47been if West Ham had held on because now all of the Palace tweets are

0:32:47 > 0:32:52fairly positive. Clive, total commitment, definitely staying up,

0:32:52 > 0:32:57Zaha was awesome, can't wait for a fully fit first 11. Danielle, seeing

0:32:57 > 0:32:59that resilience is something I haven't seen for many years, gives

0:32:59 > 0:33:04me more hope on avoiding the drop. Jayden, kept going to the end,

0:33:04 > 0:33:12pleased with the point, should have been more, performances have

0:33:12 > 0:33:14improved lately, we are desperate for a striker.

0:33:14 > 0:33:16But if Michalak Tony had not done what he had done and they had

0:33:16 > 0:33:18scored, they would have been different tweets because they would

0:33:18 > 0:33:26be beaten at home by a relegation rival. But it is not!As I said,

0:33:26 > 0:33:31they would just be pleased on both sides, you feel like you have lost

0:33:31 > 0:33:36when you have gone to nil up and then draw 2-2, and vice versa when

0:33:36 > 0:33:39you are down.Palace are not adrift, but what I would say is that they

0:33:39 > 0:33:44have dropped so many points in an early stage of the season. I felt

0:33:44 > 0:33:48when Roy Hodgson went in there that he would keep them up because he is

0:33:48 > 0:33:51an experienced manager, say what you like about him but I thought he

0:33:51 > 0:33:55could get enough out of that good group of players. It is not really

0:33:55 > 0:33:59working out like that at the moment, at some point during the course of

0:33:59 > 0:34:03the season they will have another lull and this bad opening to the

0:34:03 > 0:34:12season, they are not adrift.85058 or use the hashtag if you want to

0:34:12 > 0:34:20get in touch with us. Daniel Sturridge but is 100 club goal, he

0:34:20 > 0:34:25has made 65 starts, 31 from the bench, 67 bowls of a pool. You have

0:34:25 > 0:34:32laid against him, what is he like to mark?Very elusive. You don't want

0:34:32 > 0:34:37to face him one-on-one. He can go both sides, very nimble changing

0:34:37 > 0:34:43direction. I'm a big fan, he gets a lot of criticism for missing games

0:34:43 > 0:34:47but when he is fit and playing, it did not surprise me that he scored

0:34:47 > 0:34:52yesterday, it does not surprise me whenever you scores because he is a

0:34:52 > 0:34:58top talent. He can just create something out of nothing

0:34:58 > 0:35:02top talent. He can just create something out of nothing. He gets a

0:35:02 > 0:35:06lot of stick from missing so many games... Were you at city when he

0:35:06 > 0:35:13was a kid?Yeah, he felt he had a better opportunity going to Chelsea

0:35:13 > 0:35:18and he played more, from a young age she thought it would not get an

0:35:18 > 0:35:21opportunity here, get a fresh start somewhere else and you have to give

0:35:21 > 0:35:30him credit for that. A couple of seasons ago for Liverpool he was on

0:35:30 > 0:35:33fire and I think the fans just want that Daniel Sturridge back but he

0:35:33 > 0:35:37has had injury problems and cannot get up to that level. It is simple

0:35:37 > 0:35:41to get that Daniel Sturridge back, is it down to his personal fitness

0:35:41 > 0:35:45rather than how Liverpool set up, how they play, the players around

0:35:45 > 0:35:50him?I don't think he has done anything wrong, I think he has just

0:35:50 > 0:35:53been unlucky, he is not a professional, he does everything by

0:35:53 > 0:35:58the book. Because he is so quick, so explosive, you will pick of these

0:35:58 > 0:36:03injuries and niggles, how do you stop that? I don't know, I am not a

0:36:03 > 0:36:08professional in that department.No, no you are not!He is a brilliant

0:36:08 > 0:36:12technical player, he is one of those, if you were picking five

0:36:12 > 0:36:18strikers for England, he is sort of the one out of the ordinary, the

0:36:18 > 0:36:22Joker in the packed comedy genuine -- he genuinely is. His finish

0:36:22 > 0:36:28yesterday summed him up as a player, it was an outrageous finish,

0:36:28 > 0:36:33something special. He can add so much. We all thought maybe he was

0:36:33 > 0:36:37not a clock player but he gets enough minutes, does enough damage

0:36:37 > 0:36:41to justify a regular first place. For England at the World Cup, would

0:36:41 > 0:36:47you take him and use him as an impact player off the bench?100%. I

0:36:47 > 0:36:50think he is likely better than that but I think it is difficult at this

0:36:50 > 0:36:55point in time with Harry Kane being such an outstanding player, can you

0:36:55 > 0:36:59justify two in the starting line-up? Harry Kane has been so prolific of

0:36:59 > 0:37:02late for his country but Daniel Sturridge for me get in the squad,

0:37:02 > 0:37:07in and around the starting line-up every day of the week.I agree with

0:37:07 > 0:37:11that, Daniel Sturridge has to go, if he is fit, to the World Cup.But you

0:37:11 > 0:37:17would not play him with Harry Kane? I could see him, he likes to play

0:37:17 > 0:37:21short, get involved in the build-up paper may does not mind providing

0:37:21 > 0:37:25assists, so I think they could play together but again you have got Dele

0:37:25 > 0:37:29Alli who has a great relationship with Harry Kane, both performing at

0:37:29 > 0:37:37club level. I'm glad I'm not the manager!Let's move on to the late

0:37:37 > 0:37:42again this afternoon, Leicester taking on Everton.

0:37:42 > 0:37:47Claude Puel will take charge of Leicester for the first time.

0:37:47 > 0:37:51It is an opportunity, especially Leicester, for me it is a great

0:37:51 > 0:38:00club, great fans, fantastic opportunity. There are difficulties

0:38:00 > 0:38:04in this moment but it is a good challenge, good challenge, and I

0:38:04 > 0:38:16have a good feeling to come here and now to be a fox is fantastic.

0:38:16 > 0:38:23Claude Puel well in one technical area, David Unsworth in the other as

0:38:23 > 0:38:27he continues to make his case for getting the job at Everton

0:38:27 > 0:38:28permanently.

0:38:28 > 0:38:31Conor McNamara is at the King Power Stadium today.

0:38:31 > 0:38:35So far this season in the Premier League three clubs have chosen to

0:38:35 > 0:38:38change manager and we see two of them against each other head-to-head

0:38:38 > 0:38:44today. I was at Goodison Park last weekend commentating on Everton's

0:38:44 > 0:38:46defeat Arsenal, dropping into the relegation zone, but there was not a

0:38:46 > 0:38:51mood of anger amongst the Everton fans, it had almost reached the

0:38:51 > 0:38:54stage of acceptance, disconsolate mood, and may be that much as

0:38:54 > 0:38:58anything forced the owners' hands. David Unsworth gets the chance today

0:38:58 > 0:39:10to see how he fares as a manager in

0:39:10 > 0:39:13the Premier hope for the lift a new man often gets with the dressing

0:39:13 > 0:39:15room trying to impress the new manager but he will be well aware

0:39:15 > 0:39:18that Claude Puel will get the same effect from the Leicester City

0:39:18 > 0:39:20players ahead of his first game in charge in the Premier League at the

0:39:20 > 0:39:23club. He knows he has a talented squad, virtually the team that won

0:39:23 > 0:39:26the league under Claudio Ranieri, and how ironic it was this fixture,

0:39:26 > 0:39:28Leicester City hosting Everton, on the day Leicester were crowned

0:39:28 > 0:39:30Premier League champions. There has been water under the bridge since

0:39:30 > 0:39:34then, Ranieri had a poor start last season, Shakespeare had a poor start

0:39:34 > 0:39:37this season, and the Leicester fans would not swap their happy memories,

0:39:37 > 0:39:41but thinking back to Andrea Bocelli singing lessons or mamba pitcher, it

0:39:41 > 0:39:46all feels a very long time ago now.

0:39:46 > 0:39:50When Claude Puel was announced, on 5 Live people were saying, this is not

0:39:50 > 0:39:55too bad, if you look at his record, he won in Monaco, Lyon in the

0:39:55 > 0:39:57Champions League semifinal, but Southampton to eight, made the

0:39:57 > 0:40:02League Cup final last year, they are right, aren't they?He is a Fox now

0:40:02 > 0:40:09as well! I don't know, it just doesn't inspire me, I have seen his

0:40:09 > 0:40:13interviews and I see him and if I was in the changing room I would be

0:40:13 > 0:40:18thinking, is he inspiring? He might be different in the changing room.

0:40:18 > 0:40:26Possibly, I could be doing him a disservice because of the language

0:40:26 > 0:40:32difference, in Lyon, he had the language there as well. You imagine

0:40:32 > 0:40:35him in the changing room trying to get the best of the players in the

0:40:35 > 0:40:39team... I don't know, the Leicester fans will hope he does great, of

0:40:39 > 0:40:43course, but he doesn't inspire me, there are no British or Irish

0:40:43 > 0:40:46managers or coaches getting an opportunity...Although he is

0:40:46 > 0:40:49replacing a British manager in Craig Shakespeare.I will get my coat

0:40:49 > 0:41:03them.I was just making the point! Point taken!On you!His record

0:41:03 > 0:41:06speaks for itself, no one is doubting his ability as a manager

0:41:06 > 0:41:09and I was surprised he left Southampton last season but in terms

0:41:09 > 0:41:15of what Leicester need, reports suggesting they want to attract

0:41:15 > 0:41:18bigger names, potentially still riding the wave of winning the

0:41:18 > 0:41:21league, attracting bigger names, for me that puts pressure on him to go

0:41:21 > 0:41:25out and provide what they have said they will deliver on, attracting

0:41:25 > 0:41:29bigger players.He fits into their structure, though, doesn't he? I'm

0:41:29 > 0:41:34trying to convince all three of you, putting the other point of view! But

0:41:34 > 0:41:37they have their director of football, their backroom staff has

0:41:37 > 0:41:49often stayed the same whether it has been Pearson, Ranieri, Shakespeare,

0:41:49 > 0:41:51they tend to keep the same people in the background. He did that at

0:41:51 > 0:41:54Southampton as well, did not necessarily bring in a new team.It

0:41:54 > 0:41:56is easy to say that the dressing room suits and Englishmen being in

0:41:56 > 0:41:59charge, forgetting the fact that Claudio Ranieri is the Italian who

0:41:59 > 0:42:03won the title with them! Say what you like about Ranieri but that is a

0:42:03 > 0:42:06fact. It seems to me that along the way people were desperately trying

0:42:06 > 0:42:10to detract from his achievement, which is so unfair. Coldwell is

0:42:10 > 0:42:14interesting in that there were two sides to him at Southampton, the

0:42:14 > 0:42:18site where they did indeed finished eighth and arguably deserved to win

0:42:18 > 0:42:28the League Cup

0:42:41 > 0:42:43final, then decide where they were desperately dull at home, couldn't

0:42:43 > 0:42:46score goals, were not inspiring the home fans, and if you ask

0:42:46 > 0:42:48Southampton fans, I would say that they were not particularly surprised

0:42:48 > 0:42:51when he went because that is what the club do but I don't think they

0:42:51 > 0:42:53were particularly disappointed either.We have about a minute to

0:42:53 > 0:42:55talk Everton and on the basis that you might still be talking to me,

0:42:55 > 0:42:59David Unsworth, yes or no?I would love to see him get the job, he has

0:42:59 > 0:43:01got Everton in his blood, I would love to see him get the opportunity

0:43:01 > 0:43:04to get the big job at Everton and bring the club forward, the bookies

0:43:04 > 0:43:07will have four or five foreigners lined up, I'm sure, but why not give

0:43:07 > 0:43:09David Unsworth the chance? He has got Everton in his blood,

0:43:09 > 0:43:12considering that Ronald Koeman seemed to spend a lot of time

0:43:12 > 0:43:14flirting with Barcelona.I think that is a massive 's selling point

0:43:14 > 0:43:19to the Evertonians. The effort needed to play for an Everton team,

0:43:19 > 0:43:23David Unsworth knows that. The positive fear, going full circle,

0:43:23 > 0:43:28even though we criticised the under 23 league, he won the under 23 lead

0:43:28 > 0:43:32and he will play some of the kids? Yes, he has that connection with the

0:43:32 > 0:43:35young kids coming through, Everton should be so proud of their youth

0:43:35 > 0:43:40system and the way big evolve kids, and I don't think there is a better

0:43:40 > 0:43:43fit at this particular moment in time that Unsworth, who has got

0:43:43 > 0:43:46their faith and their aspirations that heart and can bring them

0:43:46 > 0:43:51through, given the chance.Thank you all very much for your company today
