:00:35. > :00:44.Good afternoon. Welcome to Match of the Day Two extra. With me this

:00:45. > :00:48.afternoon, we have got Martin Keown, Andy Dunn from the Sunday Mirror and

:00:49. > :00:51.Steve Bower, Match of the Day commentator. We want to hear from

:00:52. > :01:03.you too. I'll put your thoughts and questions

:01:04. > :01:07.to the panel. As ever, there's an awful lot to discuss, including the

:01:08. > :01:13.game of the season so far, at Goodison, as Chelsea put six past

:01:14. > :01:19.Everton. We've got plenty of games today, including Spurs with their

:01:20. > :01:25.unbeaten record who are at home to Liverpool and beg vich will join us

:01:26. > :01:32.to talk about Stoke's win yesterday and the 4.00pm game is Arsenal and

:01:33. > :01:37.Leicester. There is only one place to start and that's at Goodison

:01:38. > :01:44.yesterday tea-time where it finished 3 to lever tonne and 6 to Chelsea.

:01:45. > :01:49.Here are both managers. Wonderful for everyone at the stadium and for

:01:50. > :01:56.everyone watching TV around the world. Not for me. We cannot make so

:01:57. > :02:02.many defensive mistakes. We want to improve as a team by keeping our

:02:03. > :02:06.defensive quality and strength in balance and by improving in other

:02:07. > :02:14.areas. Today, we showed that we are improving in other areas, but we are

:02:15. > :02:17.not keeping our balance and our solidity in defence, so we have to

:02:18. > :02:23.find that balance and improve. From our point of view, we started the

:02:24. > :02:27.game too slow. To give up two goals to any team is always difficult, but

:02:28. > :02:31.to give it to Chelsea is even harder, but I think we showed

:02:32. > :02:35.incredible character and belief in the way we are as a team and I was

:02:36. > :02:41.feeling we were getting back, but every time we were getting very

:02:42. > :02:45.close we got a punch in the other end, where Chelsea kept finding the

:02:46. > :02:50.back of the net with ease. I know Roberto Martinez says they started

:02:51. > :02:55.too slowly, but I mean to be fair to Everton, they didn't touch the ball

:02:56. > :03:02.before Chelsea's first goal inside 35 seconds? And 30-odd passes. There

:03:03. > :03:08.was a slight quay flection from Azarenka. -- Azpilicueta. I think

:03:09. > :03:13.Jose Mourinho accused them of being lazy in the first half and it was

:03:14. > :03:18.typical Muramatsu, a short a-- Jose Mourinho, a shot across the bows,

:03:19. > :03:23.but he got that in the head, start quickly and fast. Costa great run

:03:24. > :03:26.and Fabregas, once he's on the ball, straightaway he's in the zone,

:03:27. > :03:30.looking for the killer ball and they're outstanding. I think that's

:03:31. > :03:34.the thing with them, they slipped up. They didn't win this last

:03:35. > :03:38.season. Jose Mourinho wants to get into their head how focussed are

:03:39. > :03:47.they and do they want it? The way they reacted to the goals they were

:03:48. > :03:53.conceding, because it was a real roller Koster -- rollercoaster

:03:54. > :03:58.match. I think they've got the strength to go. You know it's a

:03:59. > :04:03.massive game with Everton and they were powerful. I think they've seen

:04:04. > :04:06.last week when every started -- Everton started so well against

:04:07. > :04:10.Arsenal and Jose Mourinho will have said about the atmosphere at

:04:11. > :04:13.Goodison and the place will be rocking and he knows himself,

:04:14. > :04:16.because he's had trouble there in the past and he's said not to get

:04:17. > :04:20.caught. So much power in the team when you look and the introduction

:04:21. > :04:25.of Fabregas when you compare teams and the Drogba team that he was

:04:26. > :04:31.successful with, this one has more finesse, but still has steel and

:04:32. > :04:38.character. More of a Muramatsu look -- Jose Mourinho look about it. We

:04:39. > :04:42.thought perhaps some were not ideally set up to Jose Mourinho. He

:04:43. > :04:46.stamped his authority on that team. A little bit in the January

:04:47. > :04:54.transfer, but now with Costa and Fabregas, the two stand-out players

:04:55. > :05:01.and bringing players on like Luis and Obi Miquel -- mikel and they've

:05:02. > :05:07.done well. They've done what most clubs would have loved to have done

:05:08. > :05:11.and what some clubs are struggling to, "These are the players who we

:05:12. > :05:14.are getting out and these are the ones we want to bring in, because

:05:15. > :05:19.we're weak here and we'll get it done." They got it done early and

:05:20. > :05:23.they've got Torres out the door and we expect Remy to come in to replace

:05:24. > :05:28.him, so they've got the business done. He has bedded Costa and

:05:29. > :05:33.Fabregas down quickly. Costa scored and already, as Martin said, last

:05:34. > :05:38.season he struggled in that. Focus on Costa then. I he's he's the

:05:39. > :05:43.bargain of the season. I said this before. Even at 30 million or

:05:44. > :05:49.whatever it was? An absolute snip. You've bought a 70 million striker

:05:50. > :05:56.for 32 million. He doesn't turn 26 until next month. Well, until

:05:57. > :05:59.October. He was a star in Spain and he's got all the physical attributes

:06:00. > :06:05.required for the Premier League. He's a proven goal scorer. At 25, he

:06:06. > :06:12.is operating at that level, he'll cost you 66. Chelsea got him for 32

:06:13. > :06:16.and it's a snip. A couple of points, Costa has been excellent so far, but

:06:17. > :06:23.there is Fabregas and Matic, two of the best, but this is the other bit

:06:24. > :06:27.I want to get on because Danny Murphy thought Diego Costa was good

:06:28. > :06:31.and Gully as tweeted saying there were nudges in the back so Costa

:06:32. > :06:37.gave it back. What is wrong with that? Strectly to you, Martin. We

:06:38. > :06:41.are all looking at Martin. Danny was looking at it from Costa's point of

:06:42. > :06:45.view, but I'm not sure he should be waving a flag, because there's no

:06:46. > :06:51.need for that. It's an own goal scored by Koeman and he has gone

:06:52. > :06:56.into the face to remind him. Is it wrong to get into a position like

:06:57. > :07:00.that? Yes, I think it's wrong. It's unnecessary. It's rubbing it in, of

:07:01. > :07:04.course. People would say I did it myself. Would they? No, they

:07:05. > :07:10.wouldn't. We can't remember any incident. Fair play to Tim Howard,

:07:11. > :07:14.because he was going there to support him. If you look at that,

:07:15. > :07:19.then next week you think about it. When he was involved with Ramos and

:07:20. > :07:24.Pepe then there's a lot of chat going on and he needs to button it

:07:25. > :07:29.and play football. He's outstanding. He's far better than I ever

:07:30. > :07:33.realised. Don't you think there's a limit and he might learn the limit.

:07:34. > :07:39.He didn't react when Howard confronted him. He might well have

:07:40. > :07:42.got himself a card. Jose Mourinho will be delighted because Ba and

:07:43. > :07:51.Torres weren't doing that. Already there's more of an edge. Far be it

:07:52. > :07:56.for me, but I'm in your face, but we need to go to Steve Wilson. Over now

:07:57. > :08:00.to White Hart Lane, otherwise we'll lose Steve as he has got preparation

:08:01. > :08:04.to do. Spurs and Liverpool. Spurs fans say to me, Steve, they've had a

:08:05. > :08:10.great start to the season obviously, unbeaten, but this is a true test

:08:11. > :08:13.for them? Yes, of course, it is. They've played four matches and won

:08:14. > :08:17.them all, but they haven't played anyone as strong as Liverpool yet. I

:08:18. > :08:22.was hugely impressed with Tottenham last weekend, when he destroyed QPR,

:08:23. > :08:26.who weren't very good to be fair. But particularly, I was impressed

:08:27. > :08:36.with the midfield, which I think is very strong among the most creative

:08:37. > :08:43.in the Premier League. Tottenham are stronger and better and Ericsson is

:08:44. > :08:46.good. And Lemela. And I think that midfield is going to be an area

:08:47. > :08:50.where Tottenham are very strong, even for the very best this season.

:08:51. > :08:53.And from a Liverpool point of view, even from a Match of the Day

:08:54. > :08:58.commentator, you may watch a lot of football and go to the games, but

:08:59. > :09:03.there must be a bit that wants to see Balotelli back? Of course,

:09:04. > :09:07.everybody is talking about it. It's the big question, will Brendan

:09:08. > :09:11.Rogers start with him or not? It's about formation. If he plays two

:09:12. > :09:15.upfront with Sterling behind, which worked well last season, then he

:09:16. > :09:18.risked getting overrun, but they looked a little weak at Manchester

:09:19. > :09:21.City. If you are going to buy another centre forward, surely you

:09:22. > :09:25.are going to play him. If you're going to ask me to commit at this

:09:26. > :09:29.stage, I would say he plays in the front two. Thank you very much,

:09:30. > :09:37.Steve. We'll bring you the team news as soon as we get it. You would

:09:38. > :09:43.start him today, wouldn't you? Without doubt. This is a player when

:09:44. > :09:47.he's focussed and tuned in, you can be very successful with him. Power

:09:48. > :09:51.and pace. He's got a manager also that is really up for the challenge

:09:52. > :09:53.and enjoys talking about a key individual every week, which has

:09:54. > :09:57.fielded lots of questions on Balotelli. Today, he is going to

:09:58. > :10:03.have to come up with the eanTSs. -- answers. I feel it's going to

:10:04. > :10:07.energise Liverpool. I think last season, the fans, and the emotion

:10:08. > :10:11.around Anfield, saw the reaction from the fans when he was coming in

:10:12. > :10:15.and it keeps the club going in the right streion. I -- right

:10:16. > :10:23.discretion? I don't think he's a good signing. Why? It's interesting

:10:24. > :10:27.that Brendan Rogers said Liverpool, there's only one star and that's the

:10:28. > :10:33.team, but the team and Balotelli don't go together. Of all the sort

:10:34. > :10:38.of corroborative and uncorroborated antics of ball teTy, the disturbing

:10:39. > :10:42.thing was when Manchester City were 3-1 down against Sunderland and he

:10:43. > :10:49.grappled with his own team-mate because he wanted to take it and

:10:50. > :10:54.then sulked. He actually scored twice in the end, but it suggested

:10:55. > :10:58.he's not a team player, but I think everything about Liverpool -- But,

:10:59. > :11:04.if I was to talk that example that you just said, if I was a supporter

:11:05. > :11:08.and I saw him arguing over a free kick, but then scored two goals, the

:11:09. > :11:16.fighting over the free kick would be irrelevant. I think they booed him

:11:17. > :11:20.off, because it was the final straw, this guy, it sends the single that

:11:21. > :11:25.the guy is more interested than himself than the team. Martin, now

:11:26. > :11:33.they've got him, I agree that use him early, because his career shows

:11:34. > :11:37.that he makes an impact early on. In every team you're in there is a star

:11:38. > :11:42.player and you accept that. They give you a chance. You hope he'll be

:11:43. > :11:46.mature and they won't fight to take a penalty. It looks poor. I think

:11:47. > :11:55.he's made that step, but to energise the club I think he's been

:11:56. > :12:02.outstanding. You have to ask is Steven Gerrard still taking

:12:03. > :12:05.penalties. You were sitting there think Luis Suarez has gone and if

:12:06. > :12:10.anything happens to Sturridge then Liverpool are in trouble and they've

:12:11. > :12:14.got domestic cups, so whether it was ball tellic or not, Liverpool needed

:12:15. > :12:18.a body of quality in that area in and in the restrictive area you look

:12:19. > :12:21.at what he has paid and you think about 32 million for Costa and I

:12:22. > :12:30.think there's a chance it could turn out as a positive. As I keep saying,

:12:31. > :12:33.with ball tellic -- Balotelli, Shay Given said last week among the

:12:34. > :12:40.players at Manchester City he was popular. And it seems, you know, we

:12:41. > :12:43.have got lovely pictures from Liverpool's training ground and they

:12:44. > :12:47.are smiling and laughing. I'm sure it will last, but he gets bored. The

:12:48. > :12:52.other side, I watch two Italy games in the World Cup and the one against

:12:53. > :12:56.Costa Rica, he was booked early on and they had to take him off. You

:12:57. > :13:03.could tell with the body language, when it mattered that day, he was

:13:04. > :13:07.hauled off. They were delighted. There are some players that need the

:13:08. > :13:15.relationship with the manager and I don't think Roberto Mancini got it

:13:16. > :13:19.right. I'm not going to blame him. The new Italian manager, who has

:13:20. > :13:24.just won three leagues in a row has left him out. He scores early in the

:13:25. > :13:27.career. Milan he scored 14 in 14 and then five in the sexT 16. I think at

:13:28. > :13:33.Manchester City he scored ten in the first and then none in 12. He's a

:13:34. > :13:38.player that makes it and it's true in games, early on he's good. When

:13:39. > :13:44.you do the programme tonight, what will you look at from a Spurs' point

:13:45. > :13:50.of view? Lemela is an interesting player. Written off by the last

:13:51. > :13:55.management. It can only have been the case they didn't see any real

:13:56. > :14:05.quality in him. Les Ferdinand last week made the point he was injured a

:14:06. > :14:09.lot. I know. I knew he was saying that, but I didn't feel it was

:14:10. > :14:18.genuine what he was saying. You can't blame him if he's injured. It

:14:19. > :14:22.shows you, if people don't believe in you and people are talking about

:14:23. > :14:26.belief and this fella is taken off, he's overplayed at times and he

:14:27. > :14:31.needs to get that right, but the manager has made it simple, the way

:14:32. > :14:32.they play and press high and the full-backs push on and Spurs this

:14:33. > :14:34.they play and press high and the full-backs push on and Spurs season

:14:35. > :14:39.will be a team that will really push people all the way. The new manager

:14:40. > :14:46.was bound to have hopefully a positive effect, but I think what is

:14:47. > :14:51.interesting about this Spurs team is posh posh's effect on this team and

:14:52. > :14:55.the encouraging sign is he will struS the players. We -- trust the

:14:56. > :15:05.players. We know he can get the best out of the young players. Danny Rose

:15:06. > :15:12.too, but he's been outstanding. That's Andy Dunn and Martin Keown

:15:13. > :15:18.and Steve Bower with me. Gordon has texted us. "Nobody is giving Stoke

:15:19. > :15:21.any credit and they played outside Manchester City." Give us a chance,

:15:22. > :15:23.we haven't spoken about the game now. We'll start by hearing from

:15:24. > :15:37.Mark Hughes. game plan and we had to executed as

:15:38. > :15:42.well as we could because we were up against an outstanding team. The

:15:43. > :15:47.goal that we scored to win the game was worthy of winning any game and I

:15:48. > :15:52.was delighted for the players, because we gave them a framework in

:15:53. > :15:57.terms of giving them a plan to go up against a top side. They really

:15:58. > :16:03.committed to its. They got their reward. Mark Hughes talking

:16:04. > :16:08.committed to its. They got their Lineker last night. And we are

:16:09. > :16:15.joined by the Stoke goalkeeper, Asmir Begovic. Good afternoon. How

:16:16. > :16:19.are you? We are very well. Mark Hughes said you'd worked on a plan

:16:20. > :16:25.to take on Manchester City. Was that most of this week in training,

:16:26. > :16:31.despite the League Cup game? After the League Cup game we focused on

:16:32. > :16:41.the weekend. We worked on the tactical side of things a lot. We

:16:42. > :16:46.did work on this and the management team got is ready for the task

:16:47. > :16:49.ahead. The most important thing yesterday was sticking together and

:16:50. > :16:56.being disciplined and buying into the game plan. The team did and we

:16:57. > :17:00.got our reward. Do the players like the tactical side of training and

:17:01. > :17:05.saving their legs, or is it something you accept you have to buy

:17:06. > :17:09.into for the bigger games? It is part and parcel of it. Training

:17:10. > :17:15.balances itself out. As you get closer to the game, the tactical

:17:16. > :17:20.side is important. Earlier in the week, you do different training.

:17:21. > :17:24.Especially in England, with midweek games, those things that come into

:17:25. > :17:29.it, you have to focus on different things. We knew the task at the

:17:30. > :17:35.weekend and you have to be tactically spot-on when you go to

:17:36. > :17:37.the big teams. I was at Hull last Sunday and I spoke to your manager,

:17:38. > :17:40.and he Sunday and I spoke to your manager,

:17:41. > :17:49.and was not too happy after. I sensed you would get a reaction. Is

:17:50. > :17:54.that how the week went? The first couple of games did not go to plan.

:17:55. > :17:57.That is the way the Premier League goes sometimes. We believed in the

:17:58. > :18:03.quality we had in the dressing room and as long as we stuck together and

:18:04. > :18:12.bought into it, we would get good results. It was a fantastic day for

:18:13. > :18:21.everyone. It is nice when things come together like that. Andy Dunn

:18:22. > :18:26.here, how important is it for you to be playing behind a centre-half in

:18:27. > :18:32.outstanding form, like Ryan Shawcross? It is a huge help. He has

:18:33. > :18:40.been a consistent performer over many years. I have had the fortune

:18:41. > :18:44.of being able to play behind him the last five years and really enjoyed

:18:45. > :18:51.it. How he is not in the England squad is a life mystery, really. He

:18:52. > :18:57.has been great for us. He is captain and a fine example. We are

:18:58. > :19:05.fortunate. Something has been discussed, the fact he is not in the

:19:06. > :19:10.England squad. Do you as players think about that? Absolutely. The

:19:11. > :19:17.announcement came on Friday and you are baffled. It is fair enough when

:19:18. > :19:20.you go into friendly matches and try to introduce younger players and

:19:21. > :19:25.experiment for the future, when you are resting key players, but when

:19:26. > :19:30.you are going into tough qualifying matches you need people you can

:19:31. > :19:34.count on. He has performed consistently at a high level for

:19:35. > :19:40.many years and has been a captain. It is disappointing. It is great to

:19:41. > :19:45.see that it does not put him down. He does not get disheartened, he

:19:46. > :19:51.does his job every week. We appreciate you taking time out to

:19:52. > :19:57.join us. Enjoy your Sunday. Asmir Begovic, the Stoke goalkeeper. If

:19:58. > :20:03.Ryan Shawcross had signed for... I was going to say Arsenal, which

:20:04. > :20:07.would not happen, but Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester city,

:20:08. > :20:13.Liverpool, do you think he would be in the England squad? It would help.

:20:14. > :20:17.If you play for a top club... I found myself when I move to Aston

:20:18. > :20:22.Villa. When I came back to Arsenal, I could hardly get out of the

:20:23. > :20:31.England squad. It does have a bearing. He has had his chance for

:20:32. > :20:36.England. He might feel, Roy Hodgson, that he is not quite equipped. He is

:20:37. > :20:44.a strong player, perhaps he does not have the pace of international

:20:45. > :20:51.football. Ryan Shawcross can focus, he can enjoy himself, so it is an

:20:52. > :20:59.advantage for Stoke. Barely 20 minutes against Sweden. He scored

:21:00. > :21:03.three of his goals when Shawcross was on and he was directly

:21:04. > :21:11.responsible for one of them, but it is 80 minutes. He is 25 and he has

:21:12. > :21:19.played something like 220 league games. I like the Acacia 's talent

:21:20. > :21:28.of someone like Chambers, playing three games for Arsenal. And he is

:21:29. > :21:32.in the England squad. It is the feel-good factor. You play for a top

:21:33. > :21:39.club. It does not matter how long you play, you are almost accelerated

:21:40. > :21:43.into the squad. I can only assume he saw something in him when he had him

:21:44. > :21:50.with the squad. Maybe in training, how he was around the squad. Roy

:21:51. > :21:55.Hodgson said on Thursday, he bemoan the fact he did not have leaders.

:21:56. > :22:05.Tony Adams has written about this. And he is a leader. You cannot wave

:22:06. > :22:10.a magic wand. You do not have too, he plays at the Britannia and he is

:22:11. > :22:14.in great form. He could come again into the picture because we are

:22:15. > :22:18.desperately short of players. Now that Steven Gerrard and Frank

:22:19. > :22:23.Lampard have gone, almost a generation of players are missing.

:22:24. > :22:30.We rely on youngsters. There are others around, Nathan Dyer,

:22:31. > :22:34.yesterday. Somebody said that Shawcross and Nathan Dyer should be

:22:35. > :22:41.picked and if they were at Manchester United, they would be.

:22:42. > :22:52.You can get in touch with us. The team uses in from White Hart Lane.

:22:53. > :22:57.Mario Balotelli starts? He does indeed. Mario Balotelli, wearing

:22:58. > :23:15.number 45. He makes his debut at White Hart Lane. Coutinho, he makes

:23:16. > :23:30.way. Adam Lallana is not named among the substitutes, he is not ready for

:23:31. > :23:42.action. Tottenham name the same team from last week...

:23:43. > :23:49.The other thing about selection when it comes to Spurs, Michael Dawson,

:23:50. > :23:52.in the Spurs programme is asked to pick his best Spurs team.

:23:53. > :23:58.in the Spurs programme is asked to He has put 12 players in it. They

:23:59. > :24:05.are playing a 4-4-3 formation. That is doing the rounds on social media.

:24:06. > :24:14.We can go back to gain yesterday. Newcastle against Crystal Palace. It

:24:15. > :24:19.came out of the blue. I was seventh choice, but it does not bother me.

:24:20. > :24:23.It is a great club and it is great to push something back into it. They

:24:24. > :24:31.are great will stop I am chuffed with the attitude. Tony must have

:24:32. > :24:34.done such a good job because they have so much character and

:24:35. > :24:39.determination and they can play a bit. Sometimes they probably do not

:24:40. > :24:44.believe in themselves enough. It promises to be an exciting time. Is

:24:45. > :24:53.one reason why this might work is because it does not bother him he

:24:54. > :24:58.was seventh choice? He is determined to enjoy every second. He was

:24:59. > :25:07.smiling from getting off the coach until I interviewed him. When you

:25:08. > :25:11.look at Neil Warnock, I spent time with him during his so-called

:25:12. > :25:14.retirement. You never believed he would not be a manager again and

:25:15. > :25:19.when he spoke about Crystal Palace, you sensed he did not like the way

:25:20. > :25:24.it ended. The way it has come about, he thinks it is Christmas. He

:25:25. > :25:28.thought after the game yesterday that he thought he had a better

:25:29. > :25:34.squad he was looking at from afar after a couple of training session.

:25:35. > :25:40.The enthusiasm rubbed off on the players yesterday and they deserved

:25:41. > :25:45.at least a point. If any team would win yesterday it would have been

:25:46. > :25:52.Palace. There was so much pace, Newcastle could not handle it. It is

:25:53. > :25:56.lazy to suggest he is a like-for-like replacement for Tony

:25:57. > :26:01.Pulis. They are different. I agree he will give them a short-term lift.

:26:02. > :26:07.That was illustrated yesterday. Long-term, I am not sure. His record

:26:08. > :26:21.is not great when he has managed in the top division. Going back to

:26:22. > :26:29.Wilfried Zaha, he knows him for a long time. He was outstanding

:26:30. > :26:32.yesterday. He is an interesting player who went to Manchester

:26:33. > :26:39.united. They tell us he does not have a big club mentality. What does

:26:40. > :26:43.that mean? It is a cruel world the football game, you can be written

:26:44. > :26:49.off in a moment. The club feeling was he was not the right player. He

:26:50. > :26:55.is a real talent. I spoke to him and he said, I feel at home. When I walk

:26:56. > :27:01.into this club I feel different. You could tell that when he came onto

:27:02. > :27:04.the pitch. He had a goal ruled out. Is that the fault of Manchester

:27:05. > :27:12.United, for not making him feel at home? You have to respond to the

:27:13. > :27:17.environment you go into. You cannot carry anyone. There are exceptions.

:27:18. > :27:26.Maybe they have not done enough for him. What I see on the pitch...

:27:27. > :27:30.There is a homely feel to Crystal Palace. I think that is what Neil

:27:31. > :27:37.Warnock liked in his first time there. You go to Manchester United,

:27:38. > :27:41.go to the training ground, and it is like a small town. The complex is

:27:42. > :27:50.enormous and the amount of people around. Maybe he is not getting the

:27:51. > :27:58.individual care. He was bought right at the end, by Sir Alex Ferguson. He

:27:59. > :28:03.had his third manager effectively. He is on a roller-coaster. The

:28:04. > :28:10.expectations of Manchester United now get more enormous that the next

:28:11. > :28:14.group. I told him he needs to smile more. He has not enjoyed his

:28:15. > :28:19.football in the past 12 months but came on yesterday and revelled in

:28:20. > :28:24.it. If we look at the atmosphere created around a club, looking at

:28:25. > :28:29.Swansea and what Garry Monk is done, I listen to the radio this morning,

:28:30. > :28:34.talking about the chairman. How clever he can be with his

:28:35. > :28:37.appointments. He does not necessarily go for the obvious

:28:38. > :28:43.person. Swansea and Garry Monk, we spoke to him last week, they have

:28:44. > :28:49.somebody who knows the club in Garry Monk. You cannot underestimate that.

:28:50. > :28:53.That has shown at Swansea in the way they have responded to Garry Monk.

:28:54. > :29:03.You speak to anyone and they cannot speak highly enough. He is a young

:29:04. > :29:10.man but making good decisions. Sigurdsson, an outstanding player.

:29:11. > :29:16.Another player who has gone to a bigger club and come back. The

:29:17. > :29:20.shackles are off. You have to show character. Just because somebody

:29:21. > :29:25.closes the door in your face, you have to go on and show it. You need

:29:26. > :29:36.somebody who believes in you. Garry Monk spoke about the 40 points after

:29:37. > :29:41.the match. He wins this week. At the time, they were top, because this

:29:42. > :29:51.was before Chelsea played. What would be realistic for them as he

:29:52. > :29:56.has rebuilt the squad? He has got Boney. If he can keep him. If you

:29:57. > :30:09.ask me a few weeks ago he would still be there, and I hope the fans

:30:10. > :30:15.he will be. He is their focal point. We were talking about Stoke earlier,

:30:16. > :30:21.magnificent to get ten. Crystal Palace, if Swansea can get in those

:30:22. > :30:25.reaches. 's Steve mentioned it before in relation to Crystal

:30:26. > :30:33.Palace, they have pace. With Routledge and others. The 40 points,

:30:34. > :30:38.it is amusing. I am not saying he will come out and say they are

:30:39. > :30:43.aiming for top half, whatever, but saying that, I saw them against

:30:44. > :30:47.Manchester United. I thought they had more potential. The top half of

:30:48. > :30:56.the tables should be within their reach. It gives you a feeling as a

:30:57. > :31:07.player that you are looking over the shoulder. You play to win, not to

:31:08. > :31:13.not get beaten. You would not want to hear your manager saying that. We

:31:14. > :31:25.are on an upward path, let's keep going. He needs to set fresh goals

:31:26. > :31:30.for the team. Let's move on to the Arsenal and Leicester game. Arsene

:31:31. > :31:45.Wenger was asked about whether he was bringing ni chi fan le ma extras

:31:46. > :31:51.or a striker. -- in a new striker,. R. All the opinions doesn't

:31:52. > :32:02.necessarily mean that people are right. We have Sanogo and we have

:32:03. > :32:07.Sanchez and we have Walcott and Podolski and we have Giro d'Italia,

:32:08. > :32:12.who will come -- Olivier Giroud, who will come back in the season. When

:32:13. > :32:18.money needs to be spent we do it, but we want to do it in the right

:32:19. > :32:23.way. I will be on alert and people will ask me nearer the transfer

:32:24. > :32:30.deadline. The last few days are poker game. There is a lot of lies

:32:31. > :32:36.there. Everybody is interested in the same player, even if you're the

:32:37. > :32:41.only one who wants the player. Well, there were in some of the morning

:32:42. > :32:48.papers talking about Loic Remy and it will be Chelsea for Loic Remy.

:32:49. > :32:51.Over to Simon. They have different options, Arsenal, but all very

:32:52. > :32:57.different types of players, aren't they? I think they are. They don't

:32:58. > :33:01.have a like-for-like replacement for Olivier Giroud. Sanogo would be the

:33:02. > :33:04.nearest to it. I know they've tried to bulk him up over the year, but

:33:05. > :33:09.it's a big ask to put him in the situation and expect him to carry

:33:10. > :33:14.the team upfront. I feel that a new striker would be handy for Arsenal

:33:15. > :33:17.if they want to turn a top-four finish into a genuine title

:33:18. > :33:21.challenge. I'm not sure and that clip bears it out, that Arsene

:33:22. > :33:24.Wenger feels the same way. I don't really understand why they weren't

:33:25. > :33:28.in for Remy more strongly than they were. Remy had already indicated a

:33:29. > :33:32.long time ago he was interested in Arsenal. Chelsea were far more

:33:33. > :33:37.proactive and decisive about the whole thing yesterday. Arsenal's

:33:38. > :33:43.interest somehow seemed a little lukewarm, but whatever it is going

:33:44. > :33:50.to be, ?8 million or ?10 million, why not go for Loic Remy? The player

:33:51. > :33:54.of that quality is a steal. Leicester now have Arsenal at home

:33:55. > :34:04.and it's a tough welcome to the Premier League. Absolutely. I think

:34:05. > :34:09.they've equipped themselves so far. 2-2 against Everton is credible.

:34:10. > :34:13.They struggled, Arsenal, against Everton. They'll not be the only

:34:14. > :34:16.team to lose at Stamford Bridge. It was a game in which he had an

:34:17. > :34:19.opportunity to take the lead and that might have made life more

:34:20. > :34:26.interesting. I think they've had a good week already so far, with the

:34:27. > :34:33.signing of Campagnaro. -- Zoumana Camara. -- Cambiasso. He's got a

:34:34. > :34:37.Champions League crown and he could add a lot to the midfield and the

:34:38. > :34:44.news is his clearance has come through and he's available to play

:34:45. > :34:49.this afternoon. Simon, thank you. You can listen to that in full on

:34:50. > :34:52.the radio. We'll come on to Cambiasso and Leicester in one

:34:53. > :34:55.moment, but do you think that they should buy a striker before the

:34:56. > :34:59.deadline drops tomorrow night, Martin? I think he probably should.

:35:00. > :35:03.I think it might just be - you talk about belief and that signing that

:35:04. > :35:07.makes people feel they can take off - but I feel it wouldn't be good

:35:08. > :35:12.news for Podolski, and Campbell, who are sitting in the wings and it's

:35:13. > :35:17.the message. He did something with Ian Wright. He was allowed to leave

:35:18. > :35:22.and Anelka came through and look what he did. That's what he has to

:35:23. > :35:26.marry up. We all want young players to play, but the Arsenal fans want

:35:27. > :35:33.Arsenal to be competitive now and don't want to wait longer for

:35:34. > :35:38.somebody else to be ready. Even from the Anelka and Wright era, Steve,

:35:39. > :35:44.times have changed and maybe if they went with Remy or Falcao, but it

:35:45. > :35:52.doesn't look like him, but if they brought him in it would stop a

:35:53. > :35:55.Campbell coming through? The players listed there, Arsenal fans want

:35:56. > :36:00.that, Olivier Giroud will score goals and we had this last season.

:36:01. > :36:05.What will they go if anything happens to Olivier Giroud. You can

:36:06. > :36:09.lift Walcott and Podolski or Sanchez, bur they're not that

:36:10. > :36:14.genuine to go forward to get 15 or 20 goals and Walcott wants to play

:36:15. > :36:19.there, Martin. And Arsene Wenger was reluctant to play him through the

:36:20. > :36:25.middle. Permly, I think they're desperate. Sanchez was taken off and

:36:26. > :36:28.Olivier Giroud came on. You realise how good someone is when you lose

:36:29. > :36:32.them. Someone say Olivier Giroud is not the finished article, but now

:36:33. > :36:36.he's a massive loss and if he's not available then the gut instinct must

:36:37. > :36:40.be to replace him, because the others haven't been given the

:36:41. > :36:46.opportunity. Everyone has known about the Loic Remy sip. Newcastle

:36:47. > :36:49.are still talking about -- Loic Remy situation. Newcastle are still

:36:50. > :36:54.talking about him. They got many goals. What could he do at Arsenal

:36:55. > :36:58.with the players? The thing is, it shouldn't have taken Olivier

:36:59. > :37:01.Giroud's injury to actually press Arsene Wenger into getting another

:37:02. > :37:06.striker. He should have been in for one in the window. He wanted to play

:37:07. > :37:11.and he didn't want to block him. There are other options, but there

:37:12. > :37:15.is some. How many teams are playing with two strikers? You are playing

:37:16. > :37:22.with one and if you look at the guys, Campbell is there because he's

:37:23. > :37:28.a striker and Podolski. If you look at Manchester City they'll play with

:37:29. > :37:34.two. They did yesterday. If smBs happens to Edin Dzeko then they

:37:35. > :37:38.bring in Alvaro Negredo. He will sit on the bench at Chelsea and he'll

:37:39. > :37:42.not get in ahead of Costa. For three or four weeks they could have got

:37:43. > :37:49.Loic Remy. He has been available and you could go and get him. Quickly,

:37:50. > :37:56.are Chelsea the exception to the rule as they go, "Bang, we'll get

:37:57. > :38:01.rid of him and this is who we will bring in." Lots dither and Chelsea

:38:02. > :38:07.do it? They do and they offer the right money. The business is

:38:08. > :38:11.brilliant. They're making money on sales and money coming in and going

:38:12. > :38:15.out, so they've got the extra ?10 million. Manchester City have done

:38:16. > :38:21.it too. They've got rid of players and 10 million for Rodwell and then

:38:22. > :38:28.Garcia went out the door, so the two teams who everybody thinks will be

:38:29. > :38:34.title contenders have the symmetry. How canny is Cambiasso to Leicester?

:38:35. > :38:37.Depends - I saw him last year in the Italian league, it depends what his

:38:38. > :38:41.legs are like in England. If you have legs and pace around him, as

:38:42. > :38:45.Simon said, he has been there and done it and he's won everything

:38:46. > :38:50.there is to win. His experience in the dressingroom, if I was a young

:38:51. > :38:54.Leicester player, if I walked in, I would be like, "Wow." As long as

:38:55. > :38:58.he's got enough energy around him, I think he could be canny. You can't

:38:59. > :39:03.underestimate having players around you with the experience. It isn't

:39:04. > :39:08.when you come up from the Championship you ask are you a

:39:09. > :39:12.Premier League player? It's like Burnley, ahead of yesterday, they've

:39:13. > :39:16.got to believe that they are Premier League players. Without doubt and

:39:17. > :39:21.Nigel Pearson after 16 years, it's the same. That self-doubt is there

:39:22. > :39:25.and you are almost auditioning in the first matches, wondering should

:39:26. > :39:29.you be there. When you bring people in with top-level experience to get

:39:30. > :39:33.through the early period, because it's ten years now since Leicester

:39:34. > :39:38.have played at the top. You could argue if you are going to be in a

:39:39. > :39:44.team who will be under pressure and you have to press and chase, whether

:39:45. > :39:48.or not Cambiasso it is he's up to that in terms of physical kaleT. We

:39:49. > :39:51.expect plenty of movement tomorrow because it's transfer deadline day.

:39:52. > :40:03.The BBC will have it covered across all of the outlets.

:40:04. > :40:11.Danny Murphy and Phil Neville part of our cast. Five live will leave us

:40:12. > :40:16.now and we'll continue here on BBC One. We'll talk about the transfer

:40:17. > :40:19.deadline day. Do you expect it, Andy, given your contacts and how

:40:20. > :40:24.the immediate why are, do you expect it to be very, very busy? I do. I

:40:25. > :40:30.don't think there will be a late blockbuster. We might have expected

:40:31. > :40:35.or hoped for or anticipated something, like Falcao coming in,

:40:36. > :40:40.but that won't happen now. I think you'll get a lot of business and

:40:41. > :40:48.there's already a record transfer window. Over ?750 million. It won't

:40:49. > :40:52.reach the billion. I think it will be interesting. Schneiderlin, and

:40:53. > :40:58.that situation, that might develop. Are you suggesting that post-match

:40:59. > :41:02.interview was a man not convincing? He almost looked as if he was sort

:41:03. > :41:04.of thinking, "I might be saying, but I'm sure people tomorrow will be

:41:05. > :41:15.trying to make that happen." That's what happens on the day.

:41:16. > :41:20.Other clubs will come in and try to weaken. Martin's kind of sort of

:41:21. > :41:27.stuffed my papers, by reading them every now and then, but if you look

:41:28. > :41:34.at the back of the Daily Star this morning, their headline is, "Manic

:41:35. > :41:39.United." 11 players in and out. Steve, 11 in and out in one day? I

:41:40. > :41:43.would be amazed. There is probably some movement out of Manchester

:41:44. > :41:47.United tomorrow. They've got to cull it. When you look at the list, he

:41:48. > :41:53.wants to bring some players in and something's got to give. Even a club

:41:54. > :41:59.that size has got to look. It's the wages. Danny Welbeck in a situation

:42:00. > :42:06.and smeple will want to take him -- people will want to take him. I

:42:07. > :42:15.think Anderson maybe too. And Hernanes too. -- hernandez. As the

:42:16. > :42:19.manager, you have to show you are making a fist of what you've got and

:42:20. > :42:22.I know the great man has won across Europe and dare be it for me to

:42:23. > :42:26.question him, but at the moment he's definitely there to be questioned,

:42:27. > :42:32.because he doesn't seem to work out what he's got. Look at David Moyes,

:42:33. > :42:36.the biggest mistake was arriving on 1st July and it didn't give him

:42:37. > :42:39.enough time. This man is back from a World Cup semifinal and got on

:42:40. > :42:44.preseason in America and started the Premier League. He's still finding

:42:45. > :42:49.out all the time about the players. We talked about clubs doing their

:42:50. > :42:53.business early, Manchester City have been linked with bringing in another

:42:54. > :42:58.striker. I don't know whether that is Alvaro Negredo going out?

:42:59. > :43:02.Possibly. He has been linked with a move back to Spain. I would be

:43:03. > :43:08.surprised if they brought in another striker. I would be surprised if

:43:09. > :43:12.Alvaro Negredo went. They've got two top players for every position. They

:43:13. > :43:20.could do with a strike and need that freshness at the top. They might

:43:21. > :43:23.have got steal. I feel sometimes you make a change and bring one in,

:43:24. > :43:26.because how long does it stay healthy for when you've got four

:43:27. > :43:31.there trying to keep everyone happy one in and out, it might be better.

:43:32. > :43:39.Manchester City losing to Stoke yesterday. Bob in Norwich,

:43:40. > :43:46."Shawcross won't get a chance. He's a top-quality defender." Thank you

:43:47. > :43:53.to marta, "England had a goalen team but it made little difference in the

:43:54. > :43:58.end from 2002-2010." Thank you all. Five live for Arsenal at Leicester

:43:59. > :44:01.and Match of the Day Two 10. 25pm on BBC One. We'll see you for that.

:44:02. > :44:03.MUSIC: "Changing" by Sigma Featuring Paloma Faith

:44:04. > :44:05.# This ain't real This ain't cool
