:01:44. > :01:49.Good morning and welcome to Japan for the panel to look round of the
:01:50. > :01:55.Moto GP World Championship. We are at Motegi, the home of Honda, in
:01:56. > :02:00.front of these passionate local fans. It has been a dramatic week in
:02:01. > :02:06.the world of Moto GP, after that split race and a black flag for the
:02:07. > :02:10.championship leader at Phillip Island seven days ago. We have had
:02:11. > :02:15.typhoons, earthquakes, salami warnings, and one they cancelled due
:02:16. > :02:27.to bad weather here at the track. But thankfully, the clouds have made
:02:28. > :02:31.way for the crowds here today. With maximum points for Jorge Lorenzo in
:02:32. > :02:36.Australia, the mathematical permutations are the same. Marc
:02:37. > :02:45.Marquez needs to score seven points more than his fellow Spaniard, and
:02:46. > :02:49.the Championship is his. But if McGill and finishes in the top two,
:02:50. > :02:56.then he will take it to the final round in two weeks time. But one
:02:57. > :02:57.thing we learned is that mathematics is not always the strongest subject
:02:58. > :03:20.around here. COMMENTATOR: Dani Pedrosa has
:03:21. > :03:29.pitted. How close was that leg in the air? Now is a good time to pick!
:03:30. > :03:31.He cannot do that we are trying to work out how the biggest team in
:03:32. > :03:38.motor racing, with the biggest budget, could get it so wrong. If
:03:39. > :03:41.you were thinking you would gain an advantage, surely you would go and
:03:42. > :03:46.speak to the race direct, and perhaps to the other side of the
:03:47. > :03:50.garage. This document clearly states that the machine can only go for
:03:51. > :03:57.nine or ten laps. If it is outside of that, then you would get a
:03:58. > :04:01.penalty. It was a massive mistake. Look at this, what is going to
:04:02. > :04:12.happen? My goodness me, they have rammed into each other. Marquez, in
:04:13. > :04:16.the end, he was black-flagged and the engineer did not even know this
:04:17. > :04:29.was happening. They were all ready for it to come in. You could clearly
:04:30. > :04:38.see that the engineers were shocked. We made the plan together, with
:04:39. > :04:47.three or four guys, but in the end, we told the team, three or four
:04:48. > :04:58.people, and the biggest problem was that we thought it was possible to
:04:59. > :05:01.make that lap. But in the end, the positive thing is that we were
:05:02. > :05:07.there, fighting for the victory. Who is covering for who? Is Marc Marquez
:05:08. > :05:11.covering for the team, or are the team covering for him? Quite
:05:12. > :05:15.honestly, I thought it was more plausible that he missed the pit
:05:16. > :05:20.board. There was a serious lack of communication within the garage,
:05:21. > :05:25.because whatever happened, Dani Pedrosa's guys got it right, so how
:05:26. > :05:30.can that be? Well, it is impossible. As we said in the commentary, they
:05:31. > :05:36.were two laps apart, so one of them had to be wrong. But it is hopeless
:05:37. > :05:44.for them that this has happened. Charlie, hold that thought, because
:05:45. > :05:48.we have got the team director here. We are going to ask you the question
:05:49. > :05:53.that you have been asked many times since last weekend - how did the
:05:54. > :05:59.guys get it wrong and who ultimately takes the blame? I am not sure about
:06:00. > :06:06.the question. Whose fault was it at Phillip Island? I do not remember.
:06:07. > :06:12.It is done, and we have to think about this race and the next race.
:06:13. > :06:15.At the beginning of the season, if somebody had told us that Marc
:06:16. > :06:18.Marquez would have been leading the Championship at this stage, it
:06:19. > :06:27.would've been a dream. We have be focused on this. Still a positive
:06:28. > :06:32.situation, but forgot for Marc Marquez to keep his concentration
:06:33. > :06:38.under this pressure, with all of the distractions. Sure, it has not been
:06:39. > :06:43.the perfect weekend for him, but his ability to get used to the track
:06:44. > :06:52.very quickly helps. This morning, in the dry conditions, he was very,
:06:53. > :06:58.very fast. Good luck today. He was just making reference to the crash
:06:59. > :06:59.there, and that was an incident involving Marc Marquez in the warm
:07:00. > :07:05.up this morning. there, and that was an incident
:07:06. > :07:11.involving Not ideal. He had come in for a harder front tyre. The big
:07:12. > :07:21.problem again with this circuit, particularly this morning, the
:07:22. > :07:24.temperature was quite cool. It was a massive crash, he was going through
:07:25. > :07:30.the gravel at high speed. Thank goodness for him, he is 20 years old
:07:31. > :07:36.and bounces well. Another own goal for them, it ramps up the you only
:07:37. > :07:41.need something random, like this weekend, where there is one session
:07:42. > :07:45.for qualifying followed by only one dry session this morning, so you
:07:46. > :07:49.only have 50 minutes to set up your bike. If you have given away the
:07:50. > :07:54.wonderful lead you had, and finish up with only two races left having
:07:55. > :08:00.to do it, you have got no more races left, that is the problem. But
:08:01. > :08:03.support who you like, Marc Marquez deserves to win the Championship
:08:04. > :08:08.this year. As Charlie mentioned, we have just had the one session so far
:08:09. > :08:15.this weekend, it was a 75 minute session, which took place yesterday
:08:16. > :08:19.afternoon, in wet conditions, which seemed to suit Ducati, and in
:08:20. > :08:23.particular Nicky Hayden. We know the bike works well in the wet, it takes
:08:24. > :08:30.away a lot of our problems. I should be happy, front row, but I am also
:08:31. > :08:36.not happy, as there were times during this session where I was
:08:37. > :08:41.really fast, and as the track dried out, I could not really improve the
:08:42. > :08:46.lap times and was probably trying to drive too hard. But nonetheless,
:08:47. > :08:51.more importantly, we have got to try to take advantage of this tomorrow,
:08:52. > :08:56.get away clean, and turn it into a good result. Thanks to my team for
:08:57. > :09:13.working just as hard as ever, and to the fans here in Japan. They really
:09:14. > :09:18.suffered a lot this weekend. I struggled a little bit with the
:09:19. > :09:26.setup, but we finished second, so that is the most important. Tomorrow
:09:27. > :09:33.will be testing, because nobody has ridden here... I mean, I have never
:09:34. > :09:39.ridden here, so it will be testing, but anyway, I will try to do a good
:09:40. > :09:44.race. Thank you to these fans, they give to me a lot of support. We hope
:09:45. > :09:53.to have at least one pack this on the Saturday, I felt really good in
:09:54. > :10:04.the wet. But tomorrow it seems there is going to be a dry race. We had a
:10:05. > :10:16.chance at Phillip Island, so we have got to enjoy it. Yes, Jorge, back in
:10:17. > :10:20.with a chance of the Championship. Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo,
:10:21. > :10:23.where they want to be, on the front of the grid, but without any dry
:10:24. > :10:30.setup time, so how important is that? Quite important. 50 minutes
:10:31. > :10:37.just is not enough to sort it all out. This track has always been the
:10:38. > :10:44.hardest on brakes and hardest on fuel. We are going to have to watch
:10:45. > :10:54.a tiny bit when they go into turn one. A lot of the guys will never
:10:55. > :10:58.have raced with those brakes. Dani Pedrosa, just watch him going into
:10:59. > :11:09.turn one, and one or two other people as well, because he is on the
:11:10. > :11:13.old brakes. Traditionally, until Jorge got his starts right, Dani
:11:14. > :11:19.Pedrosa would always be the first person into turn one, from the first
:11:20. > :11:25.row or the second row! That is his strength. Sure, they have had little
:11:26. > :11:35.setup time, but Honda, they own this track. I did note that Yamaha have
:11:36. > :11:41.got their fuelling right. The boys going out to the grades just behind
:11:42. > :11:46.us now. One guy who still is not here is Ben 's bees, and the news
:11:47. > :11:50.last night is that he has decided to retire permanently from motor
:11:51. > :11:56.racing. -- Ben Spies. It is a terrible shame. It is indeed. He is
:11:57. > :12:01.a world champion on superbikes, and a race winner in Moto GP, but I kind
:12:02. > :12:07.of get it, because it oddly is not write any more, and he does not want
:12:08. > :12:14.to be around midfield. -- because his body is not write any more. I
:12:15. > :12:26.think he has passed his bad luck onto Scott Redding, actually. So,
:12:27. > :12:30.Ben, unable to come back to Moto GP after a really difficult couple of
:12:31. > :12:35.years with shoulder injuries. He is just not quite able to ride a Moto
:12:36. > :12:40.GP bike any more. You have got to be in peak condition, and this story
:12:41. > :12:46.with Ben not being able to come back shows us just how you have got to be
:12:47. > :12:51.in absolutely top condition to ride a Moto GP bike. You have to have a
:12:52. > :12:56.lot of power to muscle these bikes around. It is not just your arms, it
:12:57. > :13:03.is through your legs, through your call, through your arms. After a 45
:13:04. > :13:12.minute race on Sunday, your body is just completely trashed. Let's say
:13:13. > :13:18.my maximum heart rate would be 195. For 45 minutes, I am usually around
:13:19. > :13:29.185 for a whole race. That is pretty high for 45 minutes. A lot of our
:13:30. > :13:36.work in the gym is basic basically to build strength. This is a chilly
:13:37. > :13:41.oxygen in millimetres available to every kilogram of Bradley's body
:13:42. > :13:46.weight. -- this is actually oxygen. If you have less body weight, you
:13:47. > :13:51.have more oxygen to go around, and so to a certain extent it is
:13:52. > :13:53.important to have light riders, but we still need riders who have
:13:54. > :13:59.physical strength, to be applied on the bike. There are a lot of
:14:00. > :14:04.different lifts that we do, a lot of front squats, and a lot of deadlifts
:14:05. > :14:10.to build strength in your leg and your lower back. We have this
:14:11. > :14:16.machine to work on your reaction times, and your percent live vision.
:14:17. > :14:26.All of them, just small details that you cannot replicate on track by
:14:27. > :14:30.riding. Motorcycle racers have had ankle and knee injuries, so running
:14:31. > :14:35.is not the first thing they want to do. Cycling is easier on your body.
:14:36. > :14:39.It is natural, it is two wheels, you can do it in a group and have fun.
:14:40. > :14:42.You can get competitive with each other, so I think that is why it is
:14:43. > :14:57.the most popular. Motocross is a great alternative.
:14:58. > :15:01.Just as a sport it builds up your four arm strength and upper body
:15:02. > :15:09.strength naturally. It is also demanding. It has got be extra
:15:10. > :15:16.element that increases your heart rate. It is a similar, physical
:15:17. > :15:20.nature and similar on the arms and legs. It seems to transfer well. It
:15:21. > :15:26.does not have the same speed but throttle control, feeling, spinning
:15:27. > :15:33.and breaks gets your eye back in on the motorbike. This is where it
:15:34. > :15:38.comes in. It is the third race in as many weekends from Malaysia down to
:15:39. > :15:47.Australia, back appeared to Japan, these boys are being put to the
:15:48. > :15:56.test. Scott Smart had to dash back to Brands Hatch himself last weekend
:15:57. > :16:04.to race in the Superbikes. I am here about the job. You have
:16:05. > :16:17.got to get kitted up. Green is not my colour, but I will work with it.
:16:18. > :16:28.What sort of stuff well I expect to hear in the debriefing? The
:16:29. > :16:33.suspension is working good or bad in certain places. How the tyres are
:16:34. > :16:46.reacting, how the gearing is and the general setup of the bike. Put that
:16:47. > :16:55.in there. OK. As soon as you can. That is the wrong way. That is not
:16:56. > :17:01.bad. But I won't you doing that during this, I will be telling you
:17:02. > :17:15.to do it. You are in charge. I don't want to get my hands dirty.
:17:16. > :17:43.I don't like the smell of the fuel. Is it going?
:17:44. > :18:02.Friday and I am starting my duties as crew chief. They have gone
:18:03. > :18:08.through with me what I have two chat to Michael about. It is a learning
:18:09. > :18:11.session for Michael. Getting the track temperature, I have to let
:18:12. > :18:18.Michael know what the conditions are this morning. I don't want to get it
:18:19. > :18:24.wrong for him. Track conditions, quite cool. Looks like it will be a
:18:25. > :18:33.dry session. Track temperature is around 19 degrees at the moment.
:18:34. > :18:35.Bruce, what is the deal? We give him time remaining, lap and the position
:18:36. > :18:52.when he comes in. It is pretty windy. How was the
:18:53. > :19:01.session? Not too bad. Finding my feet. Guys, crew chief, did I do
:19:02. > :19:10.well? You did very well. The wheel change was funny. Stick to your day
:19:11. > :19:16.job. I think that is the best advice you have had all weekend. Onto the
:19:17. > :19:21.grid, there is Jorge Lorenzo in pole position. It is his fourth 2013. He
:19:22. > :19:29.went from pole position to second place here last year. Alongside him
:19:30. > :19:33.is Marc Marquez. He has won here before. Victory today, combined with
:19:34. > :19:42.third place for Jorge Lorenzo -- Jorge Lorenzo, remember and he will
:19:43. > :19:46.be crowned world champion. The bright red Ducati, back here for the
:19:47. > :19:50.second time this season, but for the first time with Nicky Hayden on
:19:51. > :19:55.board. Different conditions today, I am sure you are one of the only guys
:19:56. > :19:59.hoping for rain today? We would have loved to have had those same
:20:00. > :20:07.conditions. But we knew it would dry. We did 45 minutes, so we have
:20:08. > :20:11.an idea. It is not going to be easy. The bike has felt better these last
:20:12. > :20:17.couple of races and we have got some momentum going. We are going to get
:20:18. > :20:21.after it and try and stay in there as long as we can. Try to have some
:20:22. > :20:25.fun, it is nice to be starting with some clean tarmac and I am looking
:20:26. > :20:33.forward to it. Great to see you appeared, good luck. Through to the
:20:34. > :20:37.second row. Very much like two weeks ago, he came from the second row to
:20:38. > :20:41.win the race. Dani Pedrosa is going to be a strong contender from the
:20:42. > :20:50.second row. Two wins from the last two years here at Motegi. He has won
:20:51. > :20:58.from the second row two weeks ago. We need to get back to the third
:20:59. > :21:04.row. Alvaro Bautista was running fastest in the warm up until he had
:21:05. > :21:12.a mechanical problem. He was on the podium last year. He could be a
:21:13. > :21:18.contender for the podium today. Alongside him is Stefan Bradl. Two
:21:19. > :21:22.weeks after breaking his ankle in Malaysia, an incredible effort to be
:21:23. > :21:27.back here and also you went fastest in the warm up this morning. You are
:21:28. > :21:32.very strong? It went good for us in the morning. I hope we can do
:21:33. > :21:39.another good session in the race. It is tight, everything is together. It
:21:40. > :21:45.is going to be an exciting race. Most of the riders are on the hard
:21:46. > :21:52.option now. It is going to be interesting. I can be free of Payne
:21:53. > :22:01.and try to push as long as I can. We look forward to that. He has a plate
:22:02. > :22:05.and six screws in his ankle after breaking it in Malaysia two years
:22:06. > :22:11.ago. Fastest in the warm up this morning. But that was just one lap.
:22:12. > :22:17.Hernandez on the Ducati in 10th place. It is his best race of the
:22:18. > :22:27.season so far. He will be wanting to replace inspires next year on a more
:22:28. > :22:32.permanent basis. Not used to seeing Cal Crutchlow back here. He is in
:22:33. > :22:39.11th place, his worst grade of the season so far. Let's have a word
:22:40. > :22:44.with him. Not used to seeing you so far back, but good to see you
:22:45. > :22:51.smiling. You had a decent warm up this morning? It seemed to go a
:22:52. > :22:56.little bit better. We need to be faster. We need to get the one and
:22:57. > :23:00.only start of the year I can try and nail. I will try my best, but we
:23:01. > :23:05.know we have a problem with getting the bike of the line. We will see
:23:06. > :23:11.how it goes, I am looking forward to it and we will see, it depends.
:23:12. > :23:16.Maybe tonight we are in the karaoke bar, maybe not! We will keep our
:23:17. > :23:27.fingers crossed, if only for that, to hear you sing. I will take some
:23:28. > :23:31.video. Onwards and upwards. I have just spotted somebody here
:23:32. > :23:40.supporting Cal Crutchlow. We will come back to him. Chris Froome, Tour
:23:41. > :23:45.de France winner. Let's grab a quick word with Colin Edwards, looking to
:23:46. > :23:54.wrap up second CRT in the championship this weekend. I am
:23:55. > :23:59.impressed. It has been a strange weekend. We have got the bike
:24:00. > :24:09.working pretty good. We will see what we can do. Colin Edwards
:24:10. > :24:14.looking to finish ahead of Randy De Puniet. Chris Froome, I believe you
:24:15. > :24:21.have been in an exhibition in Japan and the first time at MotoGP, a nice
:24:22. > :24:29.way to spend the time? Yes, we were here yesterday. We figured, why
:24:30. > :24:35.not, the MotoGP is on today. Cal Crutchlow, is good friends with Mark
:24:36. > :24:41.Cavendish, am sure you know all about him. He is not too shabby on a
:24:42. > :24:48.push-bike either? It is pretty cool being here and meeting these guys.
:24:49. > :24:54.It is interesting that a lot of them are riding and using that as their
:24:55. > :24:57.fitness training. Very similar levels of fitness required. And a
:24:58. > :25:03.lot of bravery. This is one thing you will experience from track-side
:25:04. > :25:08.this morning? I watched the last race, it is pretty hairy around
:25:09. > :25:16.there. Definitely takes some nerves. Enjoy the rest of the day. So, we
:25:17. > :25:26.are all set, thankfully the sun is shining. It could be the
:25:27. > :25:30.championship decider. It is all to sorted out from the front. Now it is
:25:31. > :25:34.time for the riders to give something back to these fans. For
:25:35. > :25:45.most of the weekend it has been the other way around.
:25:46. > :26:04.We have got these this ear, a picture of me and Lucy. This is a
:26:05. > :26:13.dog. I was given a come only with my name on the back of it. We had a guy
:26:14. > :26:22.last year he won the front of the bike all day. We had a dog with a
:26:23. > :26:38.shirt on with my lettering on. This is a great gift from the fans.
:26:39. > :26:51.It is all wide open. I think ie have eaten the thing Valentino had there,
:26:52. > :26:56.last night. The championship is so loose, isn't it? From what happened
:26:57. > :27:01.a week ago in Australia to what happened this morning and across the
:27:02. > :27:02.weekend with the weather. All you can guarantee is you cannot
:27:03. > :27:24.guarantee a thing. What do you do if you are Marquez?
:27:25. > :27:33.He has to keep it clean and neat. He could be the chaser next weekend.
:27:34. > :27:37.Nicky Hayden was way off the pace, compared to the wet weather time.
:27:38. > :27:48.Ninth in the dry this morning so expect him to go backwards. Watch
:27:49. > :27:53.the Dani Pedrosa. Dovizioso found a setting at the very last minute.
:27:54. > :27:59.Bautista had a tumble before it. Sorted out. He was fastest in the
:28:00. > :28:10.warm up in dry conditions. Bradley Smith had some brake problems in the
:28:11. > :28:15.qualifying session yesterday. Bradley and Cal Crutchlow had a
:28:16. > :28:23.scratchy qualifier. Another learning curve for Michael Laverty? He has
:28:24. > :28:28.had to learn it in the wet yesterday and now in the dry today. On Friday
:28:29. > :28:33.I thought we had landed on Mars, it was atrocious weather. We wondered
:28:34. > :28:42.what we were doing here. Now look at it, it is like a spring day in the
:28:43. > :28:48.UK. Look at the Honda of Marquez. It looks like a pair of dustbin lids
:28:49. > :28:59.attached to the front wheel. They are so huge. They have to take the
:29:00. > :29:06.calipers - you cannot take the calipers of, you have to take the
:29:07. > :29:09.disk of the wheel. Because they also big, they cool down quicker.
:29:10. > :29:16.Speaking to Cal Crutchlow this morning, he was worried that long
:29:17. > :29:23.the down straight they would cool down too much. It is so hard on the
:29:24. > :29:27.brakes here. A lot of the factory guys have gone for that. The
:29:28. > :29:34.characteristic of this circuit is stop start. That is the way Dani
:29:35. > :29:39.Pedrosa can capitalise. This is the flowing section, the back section of
:29:40. > :29:45.the track, if you like. Go back the other way, hit the brakes. Go back
:29:46. > :29:53.the third Way and hit the brakes. There are five monster stops on this
:29:54. > :29:55.track. There is another grid for the amateur racers and they can shorten
:29:56. > :30:05.the circuit. This is the big straight. Drop from 185 miles an
:30:06. > :30:10.hour downhill. It sucks you into this corner, very easy to make a
:30:11. > :30:16.mistake. We have seen Valentino Rossi do that. So many people in the
:30:17. > :30:20.past have gone into that. The first lap will be awkward until the
:30:21. > :30:26.temperatures are. Some of the guys with the bigger brakes will not know
:30:27. > :30:31.what is going on. 25 points for a win. As we were discussing at the
:30:32. > :30:34.top of the show, he needs eight points in the pocket to get this job
:30:35. > :30:40.done and not have to take it to Valencia. He is checking those
:30:41. > :30:46.brakes, they seem to be working. They are just enormous those things.
:30:47. > :31:01.He has made a mistake today. Look at the size of them. Marquez is sought.
:31:02. > :31:06.Understandably, a tumble. Let's look what is going on here. Cal Crutchlow
:31:07. > :31:17.says he will make the best start of the year. Let's hope he does.
:31:18. > :31:22.Championship on the line in Japan. Lorenzo smoking it down, and who is
:31:23. > :31:30.coming through? Valentino Rossi blocks Dani Pedrosa! In the process,
:31:31. > :31:34.Marquez has got him back. Lorenzo at front, with Rossi in behind him,
:31:35. > :31:42.followed by Marquez, and heading the rest of the pack, Dani Pedrosa.
:31:43. > :31:47.Bradley is through in front of Cal Crutchlow, so that did not work for
:31:48. > :31:56.Cal Crutchlow at all. Oh, dear me, here we go. It was just a wonderful
:31:57. > :32:02.set of reflexes from Lorenzo, and Rossi second, how about that? Great
:32:03. > :32:06.stuff, Valentino Rossi has always been fast around this circuit. He
:32:07. > :32:10.just did not quite get it together in qualifying, in those wet
:32:11. > :32:15.conditions. But it could not be more different. Nobody will know what the
:32:16. > :32:24.track will be like today. There is not a lot of rubber down. Valentino
:32:25. > :32:30.Rossi said it perfectly - hard on the body, hard on the bike, that is
:32:31. > :32:35.what this place is like. And down the hill for the first time, those
:32:36. > :32:44.monster front discs are going to be properly tested now. Downhill, off
:32:45. > :32:50.camber, superfast. Rossi getting squeezed, Marc Marquez will not want
:32:51. > :32:56.to let Jorge Lorenzo... You were asking me, what do I think Marc
:32:57. > :32:58.Marquez wants to do? I would say, keep the blue Yamaha of Jorge
:32:59. > :33:04.Lorenzo insight. Second place would do him here, at least he could go to
:33:05. > :33:11.Valencia with a pretty decent chance of taking the Championship. Yes, he
:33:12. > :33:16.would not have to win Valencia then, if he gets a solid return of points
:33:17. > :33:20.today. But up at the front, Jorge Lorenzo showing how it is done. A
:33:21. > :33:28.strong opening lap from a standing start. Excellent start from Bradley
:33:29. > :33:33.Smith, in sixth position. Cal Crutchlow down in eighth at the
:33:34. > :33:43.moment. You were right about Nicky Hayden, he has dropped down into
:33:44. > :33:50.10th, with a dry track. Valentino Rossi tends to want to or three laps
:33:51. > :33:54.to get up to speed. Steve, everything here is an approximation
:33:55. > :34:01.for everybody this weekend. We are keeping you abreast of what the
:34:02. > :34:08.points mean. STEVE PARRISH: There are 23 laps
:34:09. > :34:12.remaining this, and I suspect that Marc Marquez will have the on
:34:13. > :34:17.Valentino Rossi. I think the Honda works around here, this is their
:34:18. > :34:22.test track, it accelerates well, it brakes well. It will all be about
:34:23. > :34:26.who has got some tyres left towards the end, and some brakes, for that
:34:27. > :34:33.matter. But with these great big brakes, I do not think that will be
:34:34. > :34:37.an issue. Rossi has gone wide! We talked about him making a mistake,
:34:38. > :34:41.and that was lucky he did not hit the gravel. He has dropped two
:34:42. > :34:59.places, with both Hondas going through.
:35:00. > :35:07.I am just wondering if those brakes got a bit too cold. He nearly hit
:35:08. > :35:16.Dani Pedrosa, that was close. Yes, it shortened Dani Pedrosa's braking
:35:17. > :35:30.distance there. So, all to do again from the Doctor. Just what the
:35:31. > :35:33.Doctor did not order. Iannone is back in circulation, following that
:35:34. > :35:45.experience that he had on the first lap.
:35:46. > :35:55.The lap record around here is a 1.45.89. Are we going to see that
:35:56. > :35:59.girl? I do not think so. Short on setup, but beautiful conditions to
:36:00. > :36:02.race in. There was a little bit of a breeze, which will affect their
:36:03. > :36:07.speed down the pit straight, but that is about it. If it stays like
:36:08. > :36:11.this, it would be a 13 point advantage which Marc Marquez would
:36:12. > :36:20.have, going to Valencia. That would look pretty handy.
:36:21. > :36:26.CHARLIE COX: Yes, you would need a calamity... Oh, these brakes are not
:36:27. > :36:34.working. That is exactly the same corner. Second time around. That is
:36:35. > :36:37.dangerous beyond belief, trying to join the track there, with filthy
:36:38. > :36:42.tyres. It does not matter how much grip he is going to get, and as he
:36:43. > :36:48.crosses the line, I can tell you... Well, it is the same thing, they are
:36:49. > :36:53.just not gripping. You can cook your brakes up as well, that is the
:36:54. > :36:58.problem, if you get too much heat in too quickly, these bigger disks can
:36:59. > :37:02.cook up. You are getting the heat on the outside and it is not getting to
:37:03. > :37:09.the inside, which is what I think has happened, he has overcooked
:37:10. > :37:14.those brakes on the first lap. I think that was an enormous gamble,
:37:15. > :37:19.you are not supposed to change things between qualifying and the
:37:20. > :37:23.race. I know these were extreme circumstances, but poor old Rossi is
:37:24. > :37:27.paying the price. They have tested them, of course, but it is not the
:37:28. > :37:35.same. Yes, it is really, really difficult. And Valentino Rossi is
:37:36. > :37:38.now back in 11th, behind knackers Uma, the wild card wider, also on a
:37:39. > :37:58.Yamaha. Marquez, as long as his body holds
:37:59. > :38:02.up, he will just want to get this done to date. We saw him come close
:38:03. > :38:06.to winning the race at Silverstone with a dislocated shoulder in the
:38:07. > :38:11.morning. I am sure he is feeling beaten up. It is extraordinary how
:38:12. > :38:15.your body can react, with the adrenaline factor, and also your
:38:16. > :38:22.main Championship rival ten bikes in front of you. I think that is going
:38:23. > :38:29.to be coming down very shortly. We heard him say, I do many things, but
:38:30. > :38:36.not racing is not one of them. If I am in a race, I have got to win it!
:38:37. > :38:40.I truly believe that Marc Marquez deserves to win this Championship
:38:41. > :38:45.this year. What went on in Phillip Island really could not be put upon
:38:46. > :38:51.him, it seems, and you would not expect to come away with no points
:38:52. > :38:54.after riding as well as he did. But if sound but still not count. We
:38:55. > :38:59.will find out what happens here, with 20 laps to go. Of course, the
:39:00. > :39:23.Yamaha tends to go well around here. What Jorge did do, he got the first
:39:24. > :39:26.lap out of the way, which we have seen him doing so many times this
:39:27. > :39:43.year, just getting the power-down nice and early. I am wondering
:39:44. > :39:47.whether or not anybody has had a word with Dani Pedrosa, as far as
:39:48. > :39:51.the Championship is concerned. Being 34 points back, the chances of him
:39:52. > :39:58.winning the Championship are very, very slim, of course. So, I am just
:39:59. > :40:03.wondering if he has been told to try not to give Marc Marquez too much
:40:04. > :40:08.hassle. It will be tough for him, because he will be thinking, yes, I
:40:09. > :40:13.am not in the Championship hunt, because Marquez took me out in
:40:14. > :40:24.Aragorn! Bradley Smith, up into sixth place. Dani Pedrosa has just
:40:25. > :40:33.put in a fastest lap. They are very close to the lap record here. Dani
:40:34. > :40:38.stuck with the smaller brakes, he did not feel it was necessary to go
:40:39. > :40:41.to the heavier brakes. That will also be interesting, coming to the
:40:42. > :40:47.end of the race, whether or not he has had to push on more than he
:40:48. > :40:52.would normally. That is the Oval, the Twin Ring circuit here. It has
:40:53. > :41:38.got an American type Oval over the top of it.
:41:39. > :41:58.You can hear how they are having to short shift in the lower gears,
:41:59. > :42:05.because it wheelies too much. It is a great sound, isn't it? I am
:42:06. > :42:08.getting a bit motion sick now. Interesting that the Hondas are
:42:09. > :42:26.using first gear a lot more than the Yamaha. He really loves to break
:42:27. > :42:32.late, Marquez. As we go past a third of race distance. He is very good in
:42:33. > :42:38.the stop start area. Freddie Spencer, the youngest ever, he was,
:42:39. > :42:44.so he probably hopes Marquez does not win the Championship. But up
:42:45. > :42:50.until the current time, he is the youngest ever world champion. But it
:42:51. > :42:53.is not done yet. Can you remember, Charlie, Valentino Rossi came to
:42:54. > :43:02.Valencia, looking like he had got the Championship sewn up... 2006, I
:43:03. > :43:10.will never forget it. And he just got it all wrong, as he has now,
:43:11. > :43:15.Bradley Smith is in sixth, with Cal Crutchlow right behind him. I am
:43:16. > :43:19.imagining Cal will be able to get past Radley, he has been faster all
:43:20. > :43:31.season. Dani Pedrosa looks like he is the most comfortable at the
:43:32. > :43:40.moment. He is a superstar here. They love him here in Japan. Yes, he is
:43:41. > :43:50.very, very popular. The fans just adore Moto GP here. There is a big,
:43:51. > :43:55.big crowd here today. What is going to be the weak point? Is it going to
:43:56. > :44:02.be Marc Marquez's body, will it be brakes, tyres, or any of the other
:44:03. > :44:07.elements? We know that Valentino Rossi has had to get a lift back
:44:08. > :44:13.because he was tight on fuel. The first gear corners on this circuit,
:44:14. > :44:27.it is although gears, with the tap wide open. It is like racing around
:44:28. > :44:34.the city, really. Look at the elbow. And the throttle hand, just as he
:44:35. > :44:42.gets to the apex. Beautiful to watch. So, the lap times have
:44:43. > :44:46.settled down, in the low 46s. That is about the race pace. Jorge
:44:47. > :44:51.Lorenzo has the softer of the rear tyres. We found in Phillip Island
:44:52. > :44:56.that Bridgestone, with some of the problems they have had, the harder
:44:57. > :44:59.tyre they went, the worse it got. They had probably run out of the
:45:00. > :45:03.softer tyres by the time they realised that that was maybe what
:45:04. > :45:12.they would be needing. And here we are with Bradl, in fourth position.
:45:13. > :45:19.Right behind him, Bautista. That would be eight turn up, Bradley
:45:20. > :45:26.Smith beating Cal. It would, it is the first time he has ridden a Moto
:45:27. > :45:32.GP bike around this circuit. I guess those sort of high-speed direction
:45:33. > :45:36.changes at the end of the lap would be the most painful for the ankle of
:45:37. > :45:46.Bradl. As they come onto the straight. That was brilliant.
:45:47. > :45:49.Whether they have put on a better electronic package, because those
:45:50. > :45:51.bikes should be identical, performance wise, but he just got it
:45:52. > :46:10.coming out of that corner. That was a rocket going past. Look
:46:11. > :46:16.at the battle going on behind. How about, as close as you like, trying
:46:17. > :46:22.to find his way past. He will have to be careful, it is his team-mate.
:46:23. > :46:29.This is the battle for the Tech 3. Bradley Smith being chased heavily.
:46:30. > :46:42.Chased heavily by his team-mate, Cal Crutchlow. Bradley missed the apex.
:46:43. > :46:56.He seemed to miss the corner and Cal Crutchlow slipped past. There is how
:46:57. > :47:02.he did it. That was as neat as you like. So, what have we got? Are the
:47:03. > :47:10.Honda bikes comfortable where they are? A long way to go yet. Is Dani
:47:11. > :47:16.Pedrosa riding to any sort of team order? When we work in Phillip
:47:17. > :47:23.Island, Honda's preference was before the fiasco pit stop, it was
:47:24. > :47:30.to have the race won here. Where better the Honda to take the World
:47:31. > :47:35.Championship and at its own track? But the best laid plans did not work
:47:36. > :47:49.out. You see the difference riding styles of the two Honda bikes. The
:47:50. > :47:57.trick the Dani Pedrosa is, if the factory preference is for the win to
:47:58. > :48:09.be here, that would put the blocks on him getting past Marquez. He has
:48:10. > :48:13.a contract for next year. He wants to keep everything nice and smooth.
:48:14. > :48:26.Looking back we saw a battle going on, let's get the replay. No,
:48:27. > :48:38.sliding. A bit of a moment. There his his dad. -- there is his dad.
:48:39. > :48:42.This is where the Honda will be strong. It is the fastest and
:48:43. > :48:47.longest straight. Passing on that corner can easily suck you into that
:48:48. > :48:58.corner. We have seen what Valentino Rossi O has done before. --
:48:59. > :49:05.Valentino Rossi. Marc Marquez is looking in attack mode. Super fast
:49:06. > :49:09.through the sequence of corners on to the pit straight. That is where
:49:10. > :49:13.he had bad crash this morning. He was so quick through there, look at
:49:14. > :49:20.that time he has taken out of Jorge Lorenzo. Three tenths, it is a huge
:49:21. > :49:32.move. All of a sudden it looks like 99, the Yamaha of Lorenzo is backing
:49:33. > :49:40.up. Just had the fastest lap of his time the bridle. Still doing well
:49:41. > :49:50.with the screws and plate in his ankle in sixth position. Number 71
:49:51. > :49:55.has just crashed out. Riding with Dani Pedrosa who has a Birds Eye,
:49:56. > :50:04.grandstand view of this race going on. 14 laps remaining. This is the
:50:05. > :50:10.part of the circuit where the Yamaha looks sweetest. But on the breaking
:50:11. > :50:21.spots that is where they will lunch up again. Turn ten out of there. Up
:50:22. > :50:24.into the dummy grid. And then the downhill straight, he is riding
:50:25. > :50:31.defensively, great covering from Jorge Lorenzo. You cannot expect
:50:32. > :50:41.that to last the 14 laps. Yamaha has the grip of the corners. That is
:50:42. > :50:52.Colin Edwards' team-mate. Not a good spot to be. What I am noticing is
:50:53. > :50:57.the Yamaha's good grip of the slower corners. It might not have the out
:50:58. > :51:01.right acceleration, it seems the gearbox isn't as fast. Although they
:51:02. > :51:08.have bridged the gap, they seem to be a touch down on power. Jorge
:51:09. > :51:15.Lorenzo carries good mid-corner speed and then gets on the power and
:51:16. > :51:25.can make the time up. Marquez has a more aim and fire style. The drones,
:51:26. > :51:29.we riding with him. Down into the awkward turn 11. Actually, it is not
:51:30. > :51:54.it is down into the second bridge. Up to the tight left. Wonderful
:51:55. > :52:02.sound of the two Honda bikes. This is where you notice Jorge is good.
:52:03. > :52:20.Marquez is on his back. Lorenzo gets the Yamaha of the corner very well.
:52:21. > :52:31.Number 11, this is worth Marquez crashed this morning. Victory Corner
:52:32. > :52:37.and then out onto the straight. It is also where we saw Bautista put a
:52:38. > :52:49.strong move with just a couple of laps to go. I cannot work out where
:52:50. > :52:55.Marc Marquez has got any way of coming into the corners. Lorenzo, we
:52:56. > :53:05.know what he is thinking, he has got to win this race. For him to win
:53:06. > :53:09.this championship with any hope, realistically and to have a much
:53:10. > :53:12.better chance of taking this championship is winning here, take
:53:13. > :53:21.the five points away and turn up with a 13 point deficit. There is an
:53:22. > :53:31.outside possibility. Marquez seems to be strongest on the brakes.
:53:32. > :53:39.Bringing the bike in. Tipping it in, still on the front wheel.
:53:40. > :53:46.Lorenzo, as you pointed out, drives out of the corner better. Marquez
:53:47. > :53:55.always looks the most out getting it stopped. Pedrosa catches it in a
:53:56. > :53:59.neat and orderly manner. For him to have a go into this corner, I think
:54:00. > :54:04.he has got to be on the back wheel or just on the inside of it. The
:54:05. > :54:11.Honda does have the performance down the straight. If you lose it, if you
:54:12. > :54:16.lose just a touch coming out of the corner, it seems to take for ever to
:54:17. > :54:22.get it back. You have got to catch the speed. You have got to keep the
:54:23. > :54:26.momentum up. Dani Pedrosa will be thinking, 11 laps of this, you have
:54:27. > :54:34.got to be kidding. They are only just halfway through this. What both
:54:35. > :54:39.the guys will be finding as well, they are not getting the air through
:54:40. > :54:53.the radiator as much, certainly not onto the brakes as much. Espargaro.
:54:54. > :55:04.He is not happy. I did think he got knocked off. I think it is a brake
:55:05. > :55:09.failure. It is extraordinary. I did not see where the bike ended up. I
:55:10. > :55:15.can hazard a guess at its condition. It looked like a brake
:55:16. > :55:23.issue in that bottom corner. Look at this! This is as close as you like.
:55:24. > :55:35.Almost kissing tyres. Danni has said, I don't want to get involved
:55:36. > :55:50.in this. Marc most getting high on the Yamaha fumes, he is so close. My
:55:51. > :55:54.goodness me! He has got to be saying to himself, do I want to tangle up
:55:55. > :56:04.with this guy and end up in the dirt? ! He has got the run here.
:56:05. > :56:12.They are telling Jorge to go as hard as he can. As opposed to what must
:56:13. > :56:17.you Mark! I think Dani Pedrosa thinks, I am going to back away from
:56:18. > :56:22.this, it will end in tears. It is Lorenzo's best chance that something
:56:23. > :56:27.will go off on the tyres of the Honda. They might run out of tyres
:56:28. > :56:34.before him. I think it will be the other way around. At the moment is,
:56:35. > :56:38.I am not seeing it. We still have ten laps to go. We're coming up to
:56:39. > :56:50.tyre degradation time in the next couple of laps. Marc Marquez is all
:56:51. > :56:58.over the back of the Yamaha now. Danni has dropped away. He looked to
:56:59. > :57:05.be the most comfortable in third place. Across the line, that gap is
:57:06. > :57:15.seven tenths from Lorenzo last time around. Nine laps left of this. We
:57:16. > :57:23.shall see. Yamaha just pushed off the bottom corner, coming out of the
:57:24. > :57:29.tight corner. Just seems to nail it at that point. Defensive line, but
:57:30. > :57:37.it works. Makes it a long ride the Marquez to get around. He has missed
:57:38. > :57:41.the corner. I don't know how he brought that back in again. The
:57:42. > :57:46.Yamaha was in the way at the point he did not want it in the way, but I
:57:47. > :57:52.am sure he will make the time up again shortly. Jorge Lorenzo making
:57:53. > :57:58.it as wide as he can. Why wouldn't he, using up every bit of the track,
:57:59. > :58:06.making sure he is not slow of the corners. That is where he could lose
:58:07. > :58:10.this. Pedrosa is 1.1 behind. He was unable to go for the apex in the
:58:11. > :58:17.corner. Had to pick the bike up a little bit. Cannot lay into the
:58:18. > :58:25.corner as he wants to. Could run through the corner, but he was
:58:26. > :58:30.off-line. Lorenzo was 46.0 and Pedrosa was 46.4, so these two at
:58:31. > :58:41.the front are going more quickly and are dropping off Dani Pedrosa a
:58:42. > :58:51.little. It looks to me, I think Marc Marquez will be back on his back
:58:52. > :58:59.wheel again in a couple of corners. He will have another go at this.
:59:00. > :59:04.What can you say more about Jorge Lorenzo. He is so good at running a
:59:05. > :59:09.strong, steady pace. He is the Roger Federer of motorcycling. He has been
:59:10. > :59:14.around forever, he is tidy, smooth and does everything tidy on the day.
:59:15. > :59:20.And the pressure he is under? He served an apprenticeship very well
:59:21. > :59:25.under Valentino Rossi. He learned how to lose as well and is how to
:59:26. > :59:30.win. When he did finally went, it was a great job. It is no fluke he
:59:31. > :59:40.has won two world titles, Lorenzo. Not at all. The crew is with him.
:59:41. > :59:47.They can sense it is three tenths. 45.7, he has just set a new fastest
:59:48. > :59:51.time. Lorenzo is responding. He is digging deep and watching the pit
:59:52. > :00:02.board. Could the tyres be the difference? Marquez has pulled
:00:03. > :00:06.himself away from Dani Pedrosa. If it all ends here, a laps to go, but
:00:07. > :00:12.with these positions, the championship would be 13 points in
:00:13. > :00:16.when they go to Valencia. What Lorenzo needs to try to do
:00:17. > :00:28.obviously, it is successfully use a few times, get Marquez enough to
:00:29. > :00:33.kind of extinguish any optimism that the youngster might have about
:00:34. > :00:38.getting it back again. He did it quite a few times across recent
:00:39. > :00:46.runs. Maybe he is doing it again. This gap is opening up. Maybe he
:00:47. > :00:51.has. That would be the smart move. There is no where it seems to me he
:00:52. > :00:55.has a big advantage on Yamaha. Maybe running into the corners, but when
:00:56. > :01:04.there is a bike on the line, difficult to get through. He had an
:01:05. > :01:10.attempt at turn 11. It did not work. I would have thought his pit board
:01:11. > :01:14.would say, settle down, second place, we are happy with that.
:01:15. > :01:19.Lorenzo will be giving it everything. You never know it with
:01:20. > :01:32.him because he is so smooth. No one has giving him the punch to go
:01:33. > :01:39.faster. You can see Marquez is really on the max. You can see him
:01:40. > :01:42.shifting his body weight back, ready for the corner. I truly believe if
:01:43. > :01:48.he got in front, he would go faster, at the risk factor is so much
:01:49. > :01:54.higher. It is such as we saw in Malaysia, Lorenzo was riding with
:01:55. > :01:58.elbows, feet and everything. He had a great battle with Marc Marquez,
:01:59. > :02:03.throwing everything at it to keep the guy at bay. It was a different
:02:04. > :02:08.style Lorenzo, when it came to the fighting of it, and he is going to
:02:09. > :02:10.make it hard again. And you get the feeling at the moment that Marc
:02:11. > :02:16.Marquez is probably thinking, there is not much I can do about this. We
:02:17. > :02:21.have seen so many moments. Look at the way he is going, he misses the
:02:22. > :02:26.apex completely. Sometimes missing it gives you a good run back into
:02:27. > :02:30.the second part of it. And enough people have done it, that track is
:02:31. > :02:35.still pretty clean out there, it is not the end but this is looking like
:02:36. > :02:40.a proper breather for Lorenzo, we are looking at about half a second.
:02:41. > :02:44.Marc Marquez, although he is only 20 years old, he is almost certainly
:02:45. > :02:51.thinking to himself, you know come this might be the best option here.
:02:52. > :02:58.If you were Dani Pedrosa... No, it has cost him more than that. It is
:02:59. > :03:02.more than a second. Yes, he is now Marc Marquez has just got to settle
:03:03. > :03:08.down, take a deep breath and bring it home. But Jorge Lorenzo, 50 wins
:03:09. > :03:12.he has had in all classes, 51 if he wins here today, and it is looking
:03:13. > :03:15.very much like it, with six laps remaining. Marc Marquez does not
:03:16. > :03:22.want to get himself into a tangle with Pedrosa. I would not bank on
:03:23. > :03:29.Pedrosa remaining behind him if he had the chance to pass him. Here we
:03:30. > :03:34.go, riding with Valentino Rossi, and how many times have we seen these to
:03:35. > :03:38.having a great scrap? It is the battle for sixth. Usually, Bautista
:03:39. > :03:44.is in the middle of it, but he is further down the road, in fourth. In
:03:45. > :03:49.between them, in fifth, is Bradl. Rossi has done a tremendous job to
:03:50. > :03:57.bring it all back. Yes, he was 11th last time we checked. Yes, he has
:03:58. > :04:01.done a now, he has got his brakes sorted out, I think it was just that
:04:02. > :04:10.they got cooked up early on, and he had to let them settle down. Bryan
:04:11. > :04:13.Staring, I am pretty certain, will be keeping out of the way. He has a
:04:14. > :04:24.good look over his shoulder. Good boy. Yes, you do not want to get
:04:25. > :04:30.yourself tangled up getting past somebody. Well done, Bryan Staring,
:04:31. > :04:37.nice job. You would have to say, at the moment at least, unless there is
:04:38. > :04:42.a problem with Lorenzo's tyres, Marquez appears to have accepted
:04:43. > :04:46.this. But what I was saying was, the key for Dani Pedrosa would be at
:04:47. > :04:51.least trying to close up on the back of Marquez, so that psychologically,
:04:52. > :04:59.he can feel, yes, I was in touch. He won the last two rounds, but this
:05:00. > :05:02.will be the only dispiriting. I think Marquez has kind of Reed
:05:03. > :05:08.gathered. We saw him getting a bit out of shape. I am pretty certain he
:05:09. > :05:15.has said to himself, this is not going to happen, I am not going to
:05:16. > :05:19.win here. -- re-gathered. You can see his knee bouncing over the curbs
:05:20. > :05:24.on the inside, absolute poetry in motion. He is as neat as a pin. If
:05:25. > :05:38.you were to draw that, you could not make somebody more compact, more
:05:39. > :05:46.economical, more in line and fast. STEVE PARRISH: That is Damian
:05:47. > :05:57.Cudlin. CHARLIE COX: And that cost him. Now,
:05:58. > :06:02.watch again, because if Lorenzo was there, someone else is coming. Good
:06:03. > :06:10.man, he saw it that time, but that probably cost three tenths to
:06:11. > :06:19.Lorenzo. Yes. Yes, I think Marquez has got a little sniff on that now.
:06:20. > :06:24.There it is, 1.3, the gap. Rossi, like I say, still marching on. He
:06:25. > :06:29.has got himself up into fifth, but he has got a long way to go to get
:06:30. > :06:35.to Bradl, about four seconds in front. We have not said a lot about
:06:36. > :06:38.Bautista, having a really good run. And he is two seconds ahead of
:06:39. > :06:49.Stefan Bradl, so he is having a lonely ride, but a jolly useful one.
:06:50. > :06:55.OK, it is not common to do this much Lappin, and this was costly. Yes,
:06:56. > :06:58.right in the middle of the corner, there was no way he could get
:06:59. > :07:03.underneath Damian Cudlin at that point, so he had to back off. The
:07:04. > :07:09.Yamaha dies, not best pleased, but nothing you can do about it, it is
:07:10. > :07:16.the same for everyone. The hardest thing is, as soon as the guys know
:07:17. > :07:25.that he has come past, they are looking over their shoulder, so it
:07:26. > :07:29.helps Marquez a little bit. Nothing nicer for Yamaha than to win a race
:07:30. > :07:38.on their own circuit, at the Honda test track. He came in here leading
:07:39. > :07:42.by 18 points, Marquez, and that will be down to 13 points, which will
:07:43. > :07:55.still put enormous pressure on Lorenzo to deliver. And on the wing
:07:56. > :08:00.account, it will mean Jorge Lorenzo has got seven wins, compared to six
:08:01. > :08:06.four Marc Marquez, so he will actually need to finish in third
:08:07. > :08:09.place, assuming Jorge Lorenzo wins. It has all gone horribly wrong,
:08:10. > :08:23.following a massive advantage which he had at Philip Island. I know we
:08:24. > :08:27.keep on talking about it. When we were in Aragon, we were looking down
:08:28. > :08:34.the barrel of the rest of the races being dead rubbers, because the last
:08:35. > :08:38.few races would be a formality. You could not have forecast what on
:08:39. > :08:42.earth could possibly happen, you could not have foreseen Australia,
:08:43. > :08:47.and then the calamity here as well with the weather, and the craziness
:08:48. > :08:51.of everybody having to roll the dice and try new brakes. It is
:08:52. > :08:55.extraordinary, what has happened. It has thrown a proper spanner in the
:08:56. > :09:01.works, or certainly for Honda and Marc Marquez. You could not have got
:09:02. > :09:04.odds on the Championship going all the way down to Valencia, but that
:09:05. > :09:09.is what is going to happen, by the look of it. We are looking at the
:09:10. > :09:12.Ducati 's, which have given us a lot of fun down the years. -- the
:09:13. > :09:39.Ducatis. And running around in 11th position
:09:40. > :09:43.at the moment is Nakasuga. You have got to say that possibly through no
:09:44. > :09:46.fault of his own, Marc Marquez is having to think a fair bit more
:09:47. > :09:59.about this Championship. I know he has only got one speed, but he is
:10:00. > :10:02.being very smart here today. Damian Cudlin will be in trouble now for
:10:03. > :10:07.holding up the race leader, Jorge Lorenzo, because it will be the fact
:10:08. > :10:15.that he did not see the blue flags. So, he will get a point for that,
:10:16. > :10:22.almost certainly, on his licence. Yes, he will be summoned. Michael
:10:23. > :10:31.Laverty, in 19th position, just behind Petrucci at the moment. Not a
:10:32. > :10:37.bad Australian accent there, you have used your couple of weeks down
:10:38. > :10:41.under very well, Stephen. You would say that motorcycle is bent,
:10:42. > :10:44.wouldn't you, but that is because the back wheel is off the ground,
:10:45. > :10:56.and he has got the airbrake out nicely. That is extraordinary. The
:10:57. > :10:58.size of that front disc, have a look at it. It makes the front wheel look
:10:59. > :11:15.too small, but it works. He takes slow motion replays to a
:11:16. > :11:19.new level, but the performance of Marc Marquez. And this guy,
:11:20. > :11:25.perseverance, neatness, absolute focus and determination. If he had
:11:26. > :11:29.not had that crash in N'Guessan, if he had not backed up with another
:11:30. > :11:34.crash, with injury, in Germany, it could all be so different. This
:11:35. > :11:41.race, we would be seeing him as Championship. . We could say the
:11:42. > :11:46.same if Marc Marquez have not fallen off in Italy as well. Jorge Lorenzo
:11:47. > :11:50.and Marc Marquez have probably been the standouts . any Pedrosa really
:11:51. > :11:56.has not had the form that we saw at the end of last year. No, he was
:11:57. > :12:01.really on a roll, wasn't he? So, there you go. They are just telling
:12:02. > :12:08.him, that is fine, just ring it on home. Jorge Lorenzo qualified in
:12:09. > :12:13.pole position, was the fastest man in the wet. Jorge Lorenzo was only
:12:14. > :12:17.the fourth fastest man this morning in the dry, in the only other bit of
:12:18. > :12:23.running they had around here. And he was behind Marquez, behind Pedrosa
:12:24. > :12:29.and behind Bradl. But he knew what he had to do, went on the soft tyre,
:12:30. > :12:34.took the chance, and it looks like it is paying off. The Yamaha, a
:12:35. > :12:38.different type of weight distribution, different power
:12:39. > :12:43.characteristics, different riding style from Jorge Lorenzo, and he has
:12:44. > :12:48.got away with that soft tyre. He is about to come up with his 30th motor
:12:49. > :12:59.GP win, and what a great ambassador he is for our sport. Casey Stoner
:13:00. > :13:02.was in the high 30s, Valentino Rossi of course, but it is a massive
:13:03. > :13:08.result for this man. And for Yamaha as well, at the Honda track. We have
:13:09. > :13:13.got the President a here today, keeping an eye on it. Jorge Lorenzo
:13:14. > :13:18.will be thinking, I hope we have got enough fuel here. He has got a long
:13:19. > :13:33.straight coming up here now, and then coming through towards Victory
:13:34. > :13:40.Corner. Through the left-hander. They are getting ready for him! He
:13:41. > :13:49.comes into Victory Corner, and Jorge Lorenzo wins in Japan! Jorge Lorenzo
:13:50. > :13:52.wins on Honda's own track. Second, Marc Marquez, third, Dani Pedrosa,
:13:53. > :13:57.the Championship goes down to the wire, partner, in Valencia. It
:13:58. > :14:04.certainly does. We have got 13 points in it. A very good ride from
:14:05. > :14:13.Bautista, number 19, coming home in fourth position. Stefan Bradl, too,
:14:14. > :14:17.riding through the pain, coming home in fifth. And Valentino Rossi, what
:14:18. > :14:23.a recovery from the heart stopping moments he had early in the race,
:14:24. > :14:29.running ride twice down at 90 Corner. And it looks like Dovizioso
:14:30. > :14:34.has had some problems, dropping a long way back. I know he has got
:14:35. > :14:42.some fuel problems, but he has dropped a long way back. Bike number
:14:43. > :14:51.21, that was John Hopkins' old number, as well as Troy Bayliss's
:14:52. > :14:55.old number, it is a good number! Bradley Smith had a very strong
:14:56. > :15:00.ride, it went away from him a little in the latter stages, but he had a
:15:01. > :15:06.brilliant start, and Rodwell. A good day for Yamaha all-round. After the
:15:07. > :15:16.problems for Valentino Rossi, what is your take on people using these
:15:17. > :15:21.new, egg brakes today? -- big brakes? I reckon he probably just
:15:22. > :15:25.cooked up those discs a little bit. He has often had some brake
:15:26. > :15:30.problems. He had some in separate this year in the traffic in the
:15:31. > :15:36.first few laps. But I know that if you just get too much heat too
:15:37. > :15:47.quickly, they do not really like it. But there is not a lot of choice in
:15:48. > :15:53.the first few laps of a race. You saw the maps, 13 points is what is
:15:54. > :16:00.needed. Dani Pedrosa is out of the championship. 36 points of the pace.
:16:01. > :16:06.Another year, give it another go. He has got another contract. Valentino
:16:07. > :16:14.Rossi is looking a very strong fourth place. Yamaha and Honda are
:16:15. > :16:20.the top four in the world this year. That is the way it is looking. Dani
:16:21. > :16:25.Pedrosa is going to start thinking to himself, there is nothing I can
:16:26. > :16:28.do about this kid. He looked good at the beginning, looked very strong
:16:29. > :16:34.and comfortable but could not keep the pace up. It will be interesting
:16:35. > :16:39.to find out, whether it was the brakes, tyres or what. He could not
:16:40. > :16:52.hold the pace. He has had to MotoGP wins, will be interesting. Michael
:16:53. > :17:04.Laverty did get across the line. He did some good pushing. He has ran
:17:05. > :17:09.out of fuel, Valentino Rossi. Got further than last year, because last
:17:10. > :17:15.year he had to get a lift back. Cal Crutchlow made it over the line,
:17:16. > :17:20.because he ran out of fuel. It is good fuel management. This guy did
:17:21. > :17:28.not run out of fuel, how about that? He did not go as far as Valentino
:17:29. > :17:33.Rossi, did he? Lorenzo laying out the flag for a bit. It was a great
:17:34. > :17:55.ride and great encouragement for the team. They used to give the factory
:17:56. > :18:01.Honda a run. Sensible afternoon. Got over the crash this morning. It is
:18:02. > :18:06.going to make for a fantastic celebration in Valencia. They will
:18:07. > :18:14.all be thinking, I hope this works out. Otherwise we will be out of a
:18:15. > :18:19.job. Yes, they will be thinking they will get throttled for making the
:18:20. > :18:25.pit stop. He is not a happy camper. I am sure we will find out what his
:18:26. > :18:32.issues where, if there were any. Colin Edwards, as I said, top CRT,
:18:33. > :18:52.finishing 12th out right. That will do. So, seven wins now for Jorge
:18:53. > :18:56.Lorenzo this season. Lorenzo's land is a Honda test track. Can you
:18:57. > :19:01.imagine explaining that to the board of Honda, what happened? Honda won
:19:02. > :19:09.the championship last year with six wins. This year he has had six
:19:10. > :19:19.already. It shows how hard he has been run by Marquez. It has been a
:19:20. > :19:24.two-man show all year. He is doing everything he can. All he can do
:19:25. > :19:31.from here is make it hard for the other guy. That is the other guy.
:19:32. > :20:07.Always smiling. Azi Farni can put her umbrella down
:20:08. > :20:15.and do her own job now. 42.31 seconds last time. A slower race. I
:20:16. > :20:19.think, as I said, one of the compromises as far as set up is
:20:20. > :20:25.concerned. I think he did a good job, Stefan Bradl. He would not have
:20:26. > :20:40.expected that when he was in hospital three weeks ago. OK, that
:20:41. > :20:46.was a top, top ride. He does not even know what time it is. He was in
:20:47. > :20:56.pole position and he won the race. A great ride, Azi Farni? This could
:20:57. > :20:58.not have gone more perfect for year with the championship going down to
:20:59. > :21:12.the final race in Valencia in two weeks? Yes. We knew at the end of
:21:13. > :21:20.the race we could have problems. And I could improve my lap time and get
:21:21. > :21:27.away. Maybe I could have slowed down a bit and raise with the group, but
:21:28. > :21:31.I chose this way. I am very happy. Great motivation for Valencia now.
:21:32. > :21:37.Congratulations. He chanced his arm on the tyres and it did pay off in
:21:38. > :21:48.the end. It was a gamble and this is confirmation. Just a tiny bit
:21:49. > :21:54.slower, three seconds slower across the race distance from last time.
:21:55. > :21:59.They had to work with it. Marc Marquez, probably the smart way to
:22:00. > :22:04.play it. Marc, congratulations, you have caught up with Jorge and we
:22:05. > :22:12.thought you could pass. Was he just faster? Today I knew it would be
:22:13. > :22:20.difficult. Because it was my first time here with MotoGP. We practised
:22:21. > :22:28.yesterday in rainy conditions. And for one lap this morning, I was OK.
:22:29. > :22:34.Also with the setup, we were faster. But I was one part of the race I was
:22:35. > :22:41.a little bit faster than Jorge, but in the end he pushed quite a lot. I
:22:42. > :22:48.thought it was too much risk. So we will have another race. Smart
:22:49. > :22:55.thinking. Strategy was what was going on. Look at that facility.
:22:56. > :23:04.Great to look at, this place. The most extraordinary race setup. 13
:23:05. > :23:10.points the between the two of them. It is all over the Danni, sadly.
:23:11. > :23:14.Danni, sadly the championship is over for you. But a good podium,
:23:15. > :23:20.what happened in that race? It is such a good start but it seemed to
:23:21. > :23:25.fall off at the end? The start was not so bad, then I lost two
:23:26. > :23:33.positions. We did not drive so much in the dry this weekend. After
:23:34. > :23:39.Rossi's mistake I was third. I was planning to put some good pace, but
:23:40. > :23:44.I was spinning on the rear wheel. It was spinning more than normal. I
:23:45. > :23:51.tried to do my best today but I was not able to follow Jorge and Marc. I
:23:52. > :24:00.lost touch and you know... This is like this. That is the way it goes.
:24:01. > :24:07.He has got to laugh about it. He is still coming third in the world. 25
:24:08. > :24:11.points behind Lorenzo and a further 13 on top of that behind his
:24:12. > :24:18.team-mate, Marc Marquez. A gamble for Jorge going for the softer tyre.
:24:19. > :24:22.They have not done a lot of testing. He would have sat down with his
:24:23. > :24:29.Bridgestone engineers and data guys and try to work it out. And you
:24:30. > :24:34.could see. That was a replay, it does not happen that often. Kissed
:24:35. > :24:41.and made up. Colin Edwards, I don't know what you said to him before the
:24:42. > :24:45.race, but it obviously worked? I will have to tell him I am not
:24:46. > :24:52.available for Valencia now. A great race. You were a good look charm, we
:24:53. > :24:58.will have to put you on the payroll. I am not sure what happened with
:24:59. > :25:07.Espargaro. Something happened with the brakes, I am not sure. I put my
:25:08. > :25:14.head down and started hammering out some good laps. I got away from
:25:15. > :25:20.Randy De Puniet. I rode my backside off. I promised my guys a couple of
:25:21. > :25:24.weeks ago when I had the mistake in Malaysia. I said, I'm not sure about
:25:25. > :25:33.Australia because I don't know how this bike will work, but I will do
:25:34. > :25:39.it at Motegi. It worked. It was a great job. I am still scratching my
:25:40. > :25:48.head as to what happened to desperado. It looked like it was a
:25:49. > :25:52.brake issue. I think the body politics of this is very
:25:53. > :25:58.interesting, Steve. There was a handshake between Lorenzo and
:25:59. > :26:04.Marquez, worthy of a replay, because they have treatment because of the
:26:05. > :26:11.way he was treated at the start of the year. Marquez has some great
:26:12. > :26:19.speed, but no friends. You don't, if you are fast, no one likes you. I
