:00:00. > :00:00.Then later we take a look at the newspaper headlines tomorrow.

:00:00. > :00:36.Hello and welcome to Olympic Sportsday -

:00:37. > :00:39.I'm Reshmin Chowdhury - these are your headlines tonight.

:00:40. > :00:43.Top of the leaderboard with two events to go -

:00:44. > :00:49.Laura Trott has history in her sights in the women's omnium.

:00:50. > :00:52.Nicola Adams is guaranteed at least a bronze, as she began the defence

:00:53. > :00:56.And all in a day's work - Usain Bolt breezes

:00:57. > :01:00.into the semi-finals of the men's 200 metres.

:01:01. > :01:06.Jack Burnell is left fuming at the referees,

:01:07. > :01:08.after finishing third, then fifth and then being disqualified

:01:09. > :01:15.Not the title defence he was hoping for -

:01:16. > :01:18.as Ilya Zakharov of Russia failed to qualify for the men's

:01:19. > :01:24.three metres springboard final after this...

:01:25. > :01:30.Day eleven of the Rio Olympics have already begun, with Great Britain

:01:31. > :01:35.There's already a guaranteed gold in the sailing today,

:01:36. > :01:38.we'll be live at Guarabara Bay shortly.

:01:39. > :01:41.Nicola Adams began the defence of her Boxing crown by getting

:01:42. > :01:44.And there was controversy galore in the boxing and the men's

:01:45. > :01:50.But we start with events in the Velodrome, where the golden

:01:51. > :01:52.couple of British cycling are looking to make history.

:01:53. > :01:55.Laura Trott has her sights on becoming Britain's most decorated

:01:56. > :01:58.female Olympian in the omnium, with a twelve point lead

:01:59. > :02:02.While her fiancee Jason Kenny could go on a par with Britain's

:02:03. > :02:06.most successful male of all time, as he bids to match Sir Chris Hoy's

:02:07. > :02:19.The velodrome has been the home of British gold, four medals have

:02:20. > :02:23.already been won and another three could come tonight. One of those

:02:24. > :02:27.could find its way around the neck of Jason Kelly. The quiet man of

:02:28. > :02:32.British Cycling has five gold medals safely stored away. The Karen offers

:02:33. > :02:37.a chance for six, he sailed into the second tonight but will be there

:02:38. > :02:41.without his team-mate Callum Skinner who finished last in his seat and

:02:42. > :02:46.then despite winning his repechage, found himself relegated for this

:02:47. > :02:50.move on his American rival. His games are over but for Laura Trott

:02:51. > :02:54.her eyes are set on history, victory in the Omnium and she will become

:02:55. > :02:59.the first British woman to have won four gold medals. And it is within

:03:00. > :03:04.reach. In the four events Silva Laura Trott has finished second,

:03:05. > :03:07.first, first and second. It is about as consistent as she could hope for.

:03:08. > :03:11.Second quickest in the Time trial kept her place on top of the

:03:12. > :03:14.leaderboard with the final two events to come this evening. Becky

:03:15. > :03:18.James and Katie Marchand will be hoping to go for gold as well, James

:03:19. > :03:24.had a colourful character from China in her wake of the world champion

:03:25. > :03:28.though was swept aside. Marchand to was in devastating fashion, both

:03:29. > :03:30.winning in straight rides as the UK once again looks forward to another

:03:31. > :03:33.night of success in the velodrome. Sir Chris Hoy made history

:03:34. > :03:35.at the London Olympics with his sixth Olympic gold medal,

:03:36. > :03:37.and he believes Jason Kenny is in great shape to match

:03:38. > :03:40.his impressive haul. Kenny begins the semi-finals

:03:41. > :03:55.of the Keirin later and Hoy revealed He looks relaxed, there is always a

:03:56. > :04:00.relief after the first round. Just one less ride on your legs before

:04:01. > :04:04.the final. He rode very well from the front and I told him to get to

:04:05. > :04:09.the front tonight and stay out of trouble. You tend to get stuck in

:04:10. > :04:10.the pack without the confidence to go from the front and he certainly

:04:11. > :04:13.has the form. In the Finn-class sailing,

:04:14. > :04:15.Britain's Giles Scott has an unassailable lead and is already

:04:16. > :04:17.guaranteed the Gold medal. He is taking to the water ahead

:04:18. > :04:20.of tonight's final, which is due We can cross over to our reporter

:04:21. > :04:25.Shirley Robertson, who is there Great hopes for Giles Scott

:04:26. > :04:41.on another busy day It is a hectic day and Giles Scott

:04:42. > :04:48.has just started. You can see them behind me, and as we say he has

:04:49. > :04:52.already won a gold medal, he was so far ahead in all of the heat is that

:04:53. > :04:57.almost this race is irrelevant. But he will not be thinking that, he

:04:58. > :05:02.will want to win it and it is to be a celebratory lap of honour. And he

:05:03. > :05:06.deserves it, he did not get selected for London and he could well have

:05:07. > :05:13.won a gold medal there. Ben Ainslie won gold. This has been a long time

:05:14. > :05:17.coming. It is going to be quite a race and quite emotional when he

:05:18. > :05:23.finishes and realises that the gold medal is his. It will be quite

:05:24. > :05:26.something else. Lots more going on here, Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark

:05:27. > :05:32.are racing in the double handed. It is their final race before the medal

:05:33. > :05:36.race and they're just getting to the part where they can guarantee

:05:37. > :05:41.themselves a medal. So great hopes there. And also couple of other

:05:42. > :05:45.medal races, the single-handed Nick Thompson and Alison Young for the

:05:46. > :05:48.women and they both came into this event with great hopes but have

:05:49. > :05:55.walked away empty-handed. So disappointment for Team GB there but

:05:56. > :05:56.a lot to celebrate. Good to talk to you.

:05:57. > :05:59.There's been plenty of action in the Olympic Stadium already,

:06:00. > :06:01.mixed results for the Brits, but the star of the track,

:06:02. > :06:03.Usain Bolt, was looking relaxed as ever.

:06:04. > :06:05.Let's go straight to our sports correspondent, Chris McLaughlin

:06:06. > :06:13.who's in the Olympic Park for us now.

:06:14. > :06:21.The British interest in the morning on the track?

:06:22. > :06:29.Absolutely, Liz McColgan, you may remember her, the distance runner

:06:30. > :06:36.who won silver previously, her daughter is through to the 5000

:06:37. > :06:41.metres final full stop not expected, she returned from a broken ankle is

:06:42. > :06:48.just in February. So a great run from her, fifth in her heat. And she

:06:49. > :06:53.is through to the final on Sunday. And also, Charlie Grice is due to

:06:54. > :06:58.the 1500 metres semis. You threw on appeal, it was not looking good for

:06:59. > :07:04.him but he was sitting in tenth place and was clipped and fell and

:07:05. > :07:15.he appealed and now finds himself in the semifinals. Also a good run

:07:16. > :07:19.today from the Scott, Chris O'Hare. They're both through. And Ailish

:07:20. > :07:23.McColgan through to the final of the 5000 metres.

:07:24. > :07:25.Men's 200m heats - mixed results for the British men

:07:26. > :07:31.but the star is looking good.

:07:32. > :07:40.But mixed results for the British? Usain Bolt said he does not like

:07:41. > :07:45.mornings and was glad to get that race out of the way! He jogged his

:07:46. > :07:54.way to qualifying as we expected that he would. Adam Gemili is

:07:55. > :07:57.through as well, second in his heat, 20 .20 for him. Justin Gatlin also

:07:58. > :08:08.through. This was Adam Gemili qualifying. 20.20 as I said. He is

:08:09. > :08:12.in esteemed company in the 200 metres, Justin Gatlin and Usain Bolt

:08:13. > :08:15.also breezing through today. But safely through four Adam Gemili.

:08:16. > :08:18.In the field events - success for Holly Bradshaw and also

:08:19. > :08:24.this morning there have been medals won?

:08:25. > :08:38.That is right, holly Bradshaw in the pole vault, the British

:08:39. > :08:43.record-holder. She had a disappointing 2012 in London. She

:08:44. > :08:47.was six in that event and is determined to make up for four years

:08:48. > :08:55.ago. And she is safely through and a decent chance of a medal for Holly

:08:56. > :08:59.Bradshaw in the pole vault. And already some medals today in the

:09:00. > :09:06.triple jump and discus. The American Christian Taylor, becoming the first

:09:07. > :09:15.American to successfully defend his triple jump crown since 1904. And

:09:16. > :09:22.his compatriot will play also won silver and in the discus, the German

:09:23. > :09:27.Christoph parting, 68.37, enough for a gold medal for him. His brother

:09:28. > :09:34.actually won the gold medal in the event in 2012. But it is Christoph

:09:35. > :09:39.this time winning the bragging rights at this time around.

:09:40. > :09:42.How has the trial of medal events in the morning

:09:43. > :09:57.Well it did not go down well with Usain Bolt, he did not like the

:09:58. > :10:01.mornings! But it seems to be going well, the organisers have admitted

:10:02. > :10:06.there are problems with attendance at some of these venues and problems

:10:07. > :10:11.with attendance at the Olympic Park certainly in the early stages of the

:10:12. > :10:16.tournament. But certainly looks as though attendances have been

:10:17. > :10:19.improving. As you would expect going into the finals and semifinals. But

:10:20. > :10:23.I would think the organisers are probably quite pleased with this

:10:24. > :10:30.trial of having these finals earlier on in the day. Plenty of action

:10:31. > :10:39.coming up later, Tina Ash Smith also involved? Absolutely but first Lord

:10:40. > :10:46.your goals this evening in the 1500 metres, the Scot broke the record of

:10:47. > :10:58.Kelly Holmes last month at the Anniversary Games. She has a very

:10:59. > :11:08.good chance of a medal, Laura your. -- Muir. And also Tina Ash Smith,

:11:09. > :11:14.the 20 old, through to the 200 metres semis tonight. Very tough

:11:15. > :11:18.opposition for her, up against the new 100 metre champion Elaine

:11:19. > :11:32.Thompson. And definition of the Netherlands. It will always be tough

:11:33. > :11:34.for her. -- Diana Schiffer of the Netherlands.

:11:35. > :11:36.Nicola Adams will definitely add at least a bronze medal

:11:37. > :11:40.The 33 year-old made a good start to her Olympic title defence

:11:41. > :11:46.After receiving a bye in the first round, she was up

:11:47. > :11:47.against Ukraine's Tetyana Kob in the quarter-finals.

:11:48. > :11:49.The defending champion looked relaxed throughout and dominated

:11:50. > :11:52.the score cards at the Rio Centro Pavilion.

:11:53. > :11:54.So no surprise the judges went with Adams.

:11:55. > :11:57.She's through to Thursday's semi-finals with a comprehensive

:11:58. > :12:07.decision and caught up with John Inverdale shortly after.

:12:08. > :12:15.You get a feel for the ring and what it is about and it was just nice to

:12:16. > :12:20.get that out of the way. And I have sealed the middle. The one certainty

:12:21. > :12:24.is you get better as the competition goes on. Definitely. I was not at my

:12:25. > :12:30.best there but I'm sure to improve as the days go on. It is now the

:12:31. > :12:35.second Tuesday, you have been here for a long time waiting while

:12:36. > :12:39.everyone else has been performing and winning medals, has that been

:12:40. > :12:44.frustrating? I have been so eager to get in the ring, I have been

:12:45. > :12:49.watching the lads go up boxing and are wanted to just get in the ring

:12:50. > :12:53.myself. It is nice to have the first one out of the way and sealed the

:12:54. > :12:56.middle. I would just like to thank everyone at home for their support.

:12:57. > :12:59.And a surprise defeat for Michael Conlon in his bantam

:13:00. > :13:02.He wasn't happy with the decision - criticising the judges

:13:03. > :13:17.I am unbelievably angry. I came here for an Olympic gold medal and feel I

:13:18. > :13:21.have been cheated of that. I wanted to be a two times Olympic medallist,

:13:22. > :13:29.Olympic champion, and today my dream has been shattered. I would advise

:13:30. > :13:33.anyone not to compete because they probably are one of the most corrupt

:13:34. > :13:40.companies in the world. People know they are corrupt company. The first

:13:41. > :13:45.round, did you get information that you had lost it on the scorecard?

:13:46. > :13:51.I've got information afterwards. In the first round, I was so

:13:52. > :13:59.comfortable, not even out of breath. I thought I had won it easily. I

:14:00. > :14:05.fought him and his own game in the next round and the last round I

:14:06. > :14:13.fought him too. But it is what it is, I have been robbed of my Olympic

:14:14. > :14:17.dream. The amateur International Boxing Association has since denied

:14:18. > :14:19.allegations made by Conlon in that interview.

:14:20. > :14:21.Great Britain's Jack Burnell has also blasted the referees,

:14:22. > :14:24.after being disqualified at the end of the men's open water swimming

:14:25. > :14:29.The 23 year-old was well in the mix for a medal during a frantic finale.

:14:30. > :14:33.He was initially in for a photo finish, after clocking the same time

:14:34. > :14:36.But after much confusion, Burnell was then demoted to fifth,

:14:37. > :14:39.before being disqualified altogether for a second caution

:14:40. > :14:46.Ferry Weertman of Holland finished in an hour 52 minutes and 59.8

:14:47. > :14:50.Speaking to Matthew Pinsent straight after the race,

:14:51. > :14:58.Burnell reacted furiously at the decision.

:14:59. > :15:04.It is supposed to be the grandest stage of all with everything

:15:05. > :15:10.perfect, all this great scenery and stuff. And the one thing that ruins

:15:11. > :15:15.it is referees. 600 and however many boats out there, not needed, and

:15:16. > :15:20.every single person on the boat no idea what they're doing. Giving out

:15:21. > :15:24.yellow cards for absolutely nothing and then disqualifying people about

:15:25. > :15:28.two metres from the end when people are grabbing hold of legs and

:15:29. > :15:36.everything. In the end apparently I was disqualified, about two metres

:15:37. > :15:41.from the finish, the first yellow card I got was coming down the

:15:42. > :15:45.straight back. I was second, behind the guy in front, there was no one

:15:46. > :15:48.either side of me and he pulled out a yellow card. I could not

:15:49. > :15:54.physically have touched anybody either side of me and I get a yellow

:15:55. > :15:58.card. You explain that to me. The yellow card is meant to be for

:15:59. > :16:03.unnecessary contact. There was no one around me. I shook my head at

:16:04. > :16:07.the guy, Mike, what do you want me to do! Is meant to be the pinnacle

:16:08. > :16:11.of our sport and you have referees out there who do not have a clue

:16:12. > :16:16.what they're doing. And you were aware of the second? Not a clue,

:16:17. > :16:21.apparently it was to three metres from the end, we were all coming in

:16:22. > :16:25.in line, all the best guys on the water, you're always going to be

:16:26. > :16:32.close. I felt a hand on the back of my leg which stopped me dead with

:16:33. > :16:37.two metres to go and I took couple more strokes and the guy was still

:16:38. > :16:40.on my foot. Words cannot describe, four years of brutal hard work to

:16:41. > :16:42.get to this and ruined by a couple of judges that just want to pull out

:16:43. > :16:46.a few cards. Britain's Marcus Ellis

:16:47. > :16:48.and Chris Langridge have lost their badminton

:16:49. > :16:50.men's doubles semi-final. They were beaten by the Chinese pair

:16:51. > :16:54.Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan by 2 games Ellis and Langridge play in

:16:55. > :17:01.the bronze medal match on Thursday. Four years ago they were gold

:17:02. > :17:03.medallists, but this time around Great Britain's show jumping team

:17:04. > :17:07.have failed to make the final. They finished 12th

:17:08. > :17:11.overall with 13 faults. John Whitaker struggled,

:17:12. > :17:12.with Ornellaia stuttering Team GB's Ben Maher

:17:13. > :17:24.and Nick Skelton are into Friday's Jack Laugher has scraped

:17:25. > :17:33.into the final of the 3m springboard, finishing in the last

:17:34. > :17:35.qualifying spot in the semi-finals The 21-year-old won a brilliant gold

:17:36. > :17:43.medal in the 3m synchro with Chris Mears to become Britain's

:17:44. > :17:48.first ever Olympic diving champions. He also arrived in Rio

:17:49. > :17:51.with ambitions of an individual medal but very nearly failed to make

:17:52. > :17:54.the 12-man final after two Day eleven of the Rio Games has seen

:17:55. > :18:00.the last of the canoe medals handed Sebastian Brendel of Germany

:18:01. > :18:05.won his second consecutive gold in the men's 1,000-metres

:18:06. > :18:08.canoe sprint. Hosts Brazil took silver,

:18:09. > :18:10.while Moldova won the bronze Germany had to settle for silver

:18:11. > :18:18.in the women's 500 metres Gabriella Szabo and Danuta Kozak

:18:19. > :18:23.of Hungary took first place...but Meanwhile, it was a second straight

:18:24. > :18:30.gold for New Zealand's Lisa Carrington in the women's 200

:18:31. > :18:33.metres canoe sprint, with Poland and Azerbaijan

:18:34. > :18:35.in the silver and And, it was Spaniard Marcus Walz

:18:36. > :18:41.who came from behind to win The 21-year-old, who was

:18:42. > :19:20.born in Oxford, saw off Well the organisers of the

:19:21. > :19:25.Paralympic Games are under pressure. It has been a difficult last two

:19:26. > :19:31.weeks since we found out that real had financial issues. We must now

:19:32. > :19:41.try to find additional funding to plug the hole that they have got --

:19:42. > :19:49.Rio. We want to start getting travel grants because some countries may

:19:50. > :19:57.not even be able to afford to get to Rio.. I think the mayor of Rio has

:19:58. > :20:04.given assurances that money will be made available. We met him yesterday

:20:05. > :20:09.and he is a huge advocate of the Paralympic Games and what they can

:20:10. > :20:13.do for his city. He is committed to 150 million in the Brazilian

:20:14. > :20:17.currency. But we cannot access that funding because currently there is

:20:18. > :20:21.an injunction prohibiting any further public funding going into

:20:22. > :20:25.the organising committee unless they make their accounts public. What we

:20:26. > :20:29.have urged the organising committee to do overnight is to make those

:20:30. > :20:33.accounts public so we can start to benefit from that funding. As soon

:20:34. > :20:38.as we get the money we can start to provide travel down -- grants to

:20:39. > :20:43.countries to get to the games. We've heard stories about 50 countries

:20:44. > :20:49.being affected. It could possibly be more? We are trying to limit it at

:20:50. > :20:53.the moment, we have probably ten who are really in jeopardy at the moment

:20:54. > :20:57.and we're working with them to try to make sure the grants get to them.

:20:58. > :21:00.It could be as many as one in three countries not able to get to the

:21:01. > :21:06.games. Those most likely affected will be the smaller nations with 12

:21:07. > :21:12.athletes, Africa, some countries in Asia and some in the Americas. We

:21:13. > :21:15.want all 165 countries to get to the games because that is what the

:21:16. > :21:19.athletes deserve. They had been training for four years for this

:21:20. > :21:22.event and it is only right that to win gold they beat the best

:21:23. > :21:30.Paralympic athletes from around the world. How does this impact on the

:21:31. > :21:34.IPC operation? Massively, we have been planning for this for seven

:21:35. > :21:39.years and effectively we have had to shred those plans and come up with

:21:40. > :21:43.new plans 22 days away from the games. We are having to be flexible,

:21:44. > :21:49.we do not want, one thing we always said is no matter what happens, we

:21:50. > :21:53.want to protect the experience for the athletes but unfortunately no

:21:54. > :21:57.extra funding, we may have to make cuts to the athlete experience. That

:21:58. > :22:01.could be things like reducing the frequency of buses, changing the

:22:02. > :22:04.food available in the athletes village, it is not ideal 22 days

:22:05. > :22:25.away from the Paralympic Games. Away from the Olympics for a moment

:22:26. > :22:28.- the former president of FIFA, Joao Havelange has died

:22:29. > :22:31.at the age of one hundred. The Brazilian led the organisation

:22:32. > :22:34.for almost a quarter of a century and is widely credited

:22:35. > :22:35.with transforming football But Havelange's era at the head

:22:36. > :22:39.of world football's governing body was marred by allegations

:22:40. > :22:41.of corruption in recent years. Our sports reporter

:22:42. > :22:52.David Ornstein has more. When the massively expanded the

:22:53. > :22:57.games giving many more countries the chance to shine on the world stage.
