:00:00. > :00:34.Hello, I'm Olly Foster, these are your Olympic Sportsday
:00:35. > :00:37.Brothers in arms - the Brownlees are first
:00:38. > :00:48.It's less a sail and more of a cruise to gold for Mills
:00:49. > :00:51.and Clark as team GB stay second in the medal table.
:00:52. > :00:53.Paddling their way onto the podium again -
:00:54. > :00:56.it's a kayaking silver for Heath and Schofield.
:00:57. > :00:59.There's a double act in the badminton, Ellis
:01:00. > :01:01.and Langridge bringing home the first british badminton
:01:02. > :01:11.Not a single British medal to talk about yesterday,
:01:12. > :01:15.but that was exactly the same on Day 12 four years ago and sure enough,
:01:16. > :01:20.on day 13 in Rio, we have had Team GB athletes back on the podium.
:01:21. > :01:22.The Brownlee brothers took triathlon gold and bronze in London,
:01:23. > :01:25.No-one could come between them this afternoon as Alastair retained his
:01:26. > :01:35.Let's cross to Copacabana where the triathletes started
:01:36. > :01:42.and finished and speak to our correspondent Andy Swiss.
:01:43. > :01:54.They were simply untouchable. Welcome to cope beach where we have
:01:55. > :02:00.seen something very special indeed. Not since 1960 have two brothers
:02:01. > :02:07.taken gold and silver in the same Olympic event. Britain has new
:02:08. > :02:10.history boys, the Brownlee brothers. As Nic Parry reports. With their
:02:11. > :02:15.main rival missing through injury, this was going to be a battle
:02:16. > :02:19.between the Brownlee brothers for gold. Alasdair the reigning champion
:02:20. > :02:22.and Jonathan the silver medallist from London. Diving into the sea
:02:23. > :02:26.from the beach presented difficulty with the swell compared to the deal
:02:27. > :02:34.waters of the Serpentine four years ago. Slovakia's Richard Wagner, they
:02:35. > :02:39.are training partner, proved to be the strongest swimmer but triathlon
:02:40. > :02:44.is rarely lost on the first leg. Johnny was six and Alistair ninth.
:02:45. > :02:50.Once on their bikes, there was no stopping them as they surged to the
:02:51. > :02:54.front, controlling the leading group of ten triathletes. The hills of
:02:55. > :02:58.Yorkshire proved the perfect preparation for the hilly leg
:02:59. > :03:00.through Rio. The only thing to stop them would be bad luck but
:03:01. > :03:07.fortunately they were not involved in the crash. Compatriot Gordon
:03:08. > :03:16.Benson was, ending his race. Alistair was second and Jonathan
:03:17. > :03:19.fourth but they seem much -- they soon went clear. They would get gold
:03:20. > :03:24.and silver but the question was which would get which? The
:03:25. > :03:28.opposition behind, it was the conditions presenting the greatest
:03:29. > :03:31.challenge. It proved too much for Jonathan and Alistair showed no
:03:32. > :03:36.brotherly love, leaving him behind with four kilometres to run. It
:03:37. > :03:41.became part of the Olympics 16 years ago and for the first time, the
:03:42. > :03:45.reigning champion retained his medal. He had more than enough time
:03:46. > :03:51.to savour it. It was hard. It was a hot day today
:03:52. > :03:56.so we knew we had to control it. When Alistair pushed I knew if I
:03:57. > :04:01.went that hard I might risk a medal but to get gold and silver, I'm
:04:02. > :04:05.incredibly proud. I would like to think I'm a tough Yorkshireman but I
:04:06. > :04:09.was emotional at the end. Compare the emotions to London? It
:04:10. > :04:13.is very different. England and there was a lot of expectation and it was
:04:14. > :04:18.almost given to me before it started. There was a lot of relief
:04:19. > :04:27.there and I definitely felt that was the main emotion. Today, it has been
:04:28. > :04:31.a tough few years and just... This year has been so hard. Training has
:04:32. > :04:35.been so hard and I finished so many sessions trying to keep up with
:04:36. > :04:39.Jonathan and I've raced three or four times a week, hardly able to
:04:40. > :04:45.sleep at night because my legs hurt so much, dragging myself out of bed
:04:46. > :04:49.and doing it all again. Does he always complain?
:04:50. > :04:52.He does. I love it. I love being absolutely destroyed every night
:04:53. > :04:57.that it is supposed to be hard, isn't it? Winning stuff? The emotion
:04:58. > :05:05.this time as I would donate. I have worked so hard for it -- it has
:05:06. > :05:11.outdone it. I am really, really satisfied.
:05:12. > :05:11.I think you will happy. -- I think he was happy.
:05:12. > :05:15.It's pretty rare siblings getting gold and silver at the Olympics,
:05:16. > :05:18.but you just feel with ther Brownlees that without each
:05:19. > :05:20.other they probably wouldn't excel as they do.
:05:21. > :05:25.They've driven each other on to the top of their sport.
:05:26. > :05:35.That's right, yes. And Alistair seems to have, when it comes to the
:05:36. > :05:38.main occasion, the extra edge. Is it something psychological or peeking
:05:39. > :05:44.at the right time? Think back to London 2012 when Alistair won gold
:05:45. > :05:49.and Jonathan Bronze. Since then, Alistair has had allsorts of injury
:05:50. > :05:52.problems. Exactly a year ago there was the triathlon test event here
:05:53. > :05:56.and he finished way down in the field, a shadow of his former self.
:05:57. > :06:00.It felt like there was no way he would defend his title. Ankle
:06:01. > :06:05.surgery after that seems to have revived him and he was good coming
:06:06. > :06:09.into the final. He won the last two big events and he said he thought he
:06:10. > :06:14.was in the form of his life. In that sense perhaps not a surprise he won
:06:15. > :06:19.today. Alistair Brownlee does seem to have this lack of peaking at just
:06:20. > :06:25.the right moment for these finals. Thanks. We will see if you can go on
:06:26. > :06:29.for another four years. Alistair Brownlee and brother Jonathan taking
:06:30. > :06:30.gold and silver in the triathlon. What an achievement for Team GB.
:06:31. > :06:35.Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark should have picked up their gold yesterday
:06:36. > :06:37.but the medal race for the 470 sailing was postponed.
:06:38. > :06:40.Much better winds on the bay today though.
:06:41. > :06:43.The British pair have had a brilliant regatta over the past
:06:44. > :06:46.week and were so many points ahead of their rivals that they only had
:06:47. > :06:48.to finish the medal race without getting disqualified
:06:49. > :06:56.New Zealand pipped them to silver in London but they got their revenge
:06:57. > :07:15.It is absolutely awesome! We had a massive lead that we still had to
:07:16. > :07:19.race today and we were still nervous because something could happen
:07:20. > :07:23.randomly and it wouldn't be ours. We did it. It wasn't a pretty race but
:07:24. > :07:27.we did it and it's awesome. Two days ago you were nearly there
:07:28. > :07:31.and reluctant to celebrate until this moment start to share this
:07:32. > :07:35.together after so long trying, what is it like?
:07:36. > :07:38.I can't speak. Amazing. We had such an amazing journey. Six years
:07:39. > :07:44.sailing together and I've loved every second. Saskia Clark is the
:07:45. > :07:46.best ever. And we are getting the national
:07:47. > :07:47.anthem! The national anthem! Which is the
:07:48. > :07:50.best thing ever! I can't wait! Great Britain's first medal
:07:51. > :07:53.of the day came down on the Lagoa Liam Heath and Jon Schofield came
:07:54. > :07:56.second in the 200m double kayak. They said they had some unfinished
:07:57. > :07:59.business after getting a bronze They couldn't catch Spain but just
:08:00. > :08:06.pipped the Lithuanian pair The races take just
:08:07. > :08:13.a shade over 30 seconds. About a third of a second
:08:14. > :08:17.separated the medallists. Heath, who also turned 32 yesterday,
:08:18. > :08:20.will have to delay any partying he might have planned
:08:21. > :08:40.because he is due to compete It is so satisfying. This guy is on
:08:41. > :08:44.fire. He has been killing me in training day in, day out. I didn't
:08:45. > :08:48.want to let him down because I know he is the best guy out there. To get
:08:49. > :08:53.that was amazing. I am basically sat in front of the
:08:54. > :08:57.vote, and he is telling me everything to do. In the drills and
:08:58. > :09:02.formats. I don't have to think. I just have to go as hard as I can
:09:03. > :09:04.when the circuit drops. -- when the bucket drops.
:09:05. > :09:07.So we have had plenty of medals so far today,
:09:08. > :09:10.let's head to the Olympic Park and speak to our Sports News
:09:11. > :09:13.We've had the final morning athletics session,
:09:14. > :09:14.with some relay heats among other things.
:09:15. > :09:16.Great Britain don't always get the baton
:09:17. > :09:18.round cleanly, disqualified from their last four global
:09:19. > :09:27.Lots of bad blood after the last major race butthey scraped through.
:09:28. > :09:34.Happy to say no disqualification today. Not great in terms of form.
:09:35. > :09:39.They are through to Saturday's final, just. Fourth in the heat
:09:40. > :09:45.today. They qualify as the fastest losers. They will be disappointed
:09:46. > :09:48.with that. Adam Gemili even saying before the games he thought they
:09:49. > :09:56.were in with a decent chance of a gold. 38.06 today. Not an platform
:09:57. > :10:00.and suggestions or has not been well in the camp, as you hinted earlier
:10:01. > :10:05.on. Not so according to Richard Kilty.
:10:06. > :10:13.I have one thing to say to the guys. We have an amazing squad other.
:10:14. > :10:18.Danny Talbott, OJ the team is huge and we are not a team any more. We
:10:19. > :10:22.are a family and we are going to fight like a family in this final.
:10:23. > :10:26.We know no matter who comes in goes out, you've got to have faith in
:10:27. > :10:30.them and we are going to deliver our best performers.
:10:31. > :10:33.We will be back. Let's see if they can get the bat on
:10:34. > :10:37.around and go faster in the final. Much smoother for the British
:10:38. > :10:42.women's. It was indeed. Second in the heat
:10:43. > :10:51.today, looking very good as well. Wesley Henry, donate and Asha
:10:52. > :10:56.Phillips, second behind the Jamaican this morning. 41.93. They broke the
:10:57. > :11:00.British record last month as well. Failed to qualify for London. A
:11:01. > :11:03.massive improvement for them. They are looking pretty good indeed.
:11:04. > :11:12.These were the reactions or the comments after the race. Came in
:11:13. > :11:18.today after a hard run last night and we are thankful to Henry for
:11:19. > :11:21.that and the other girls. We were consistent, running 41 again and we
:11:22. > :11:24.are happy with that and it will give us the confidence going into the
:11:25. > :11:26.final. A bit of drama in one of the other
:11:27. > :11:30.women's sprint heats. Drama in one of the other womens
:11:31. > :11:40.sprint relay heats with the USA The Olympic champions as well. It
:11:41. > :11:43.was looking pretty doubtful they would actually progress. They
:11:44. > :11:51.dropped the bat on. It looks like some sort of bungled handover
:11:52. > :11:56.involving Allyson Felix. She dropped the bat on but they have since
:11:57. > :12:01.successfully appealed against their disqualification. She said she was
:12:02. > :12:04.impeded by a Brazilian runner and the Olympic champions will get a
:12:05. > :12:08.chance to go in another heat this evening. It looks as though the
:12:09. > :12:12.Olympic champions will make it through to the final if they do
:12:13. > :12:13.indeed come through the heat, as they are expected to, later this
:12:14. > :12:15.they are expected to, later this evening.
:12:16. > :12:18.Just away from the competition, Chris, we seem to have a daily
:12:19. > :12:20.incidents of athletes becoming victims of crime in Rio
:12:21. > :12:23.and an unnamed member of Team GB is the latest.
:12:24. > :12:25.And the mystery of the American incident deepens.
:12:26. > :12:37.Did they or didn't they get robbed at gunpoint?
:12:38. > :12:45.reports about what exactly happened early on Tuesday morning. All Team
:12:46. > :12:49.GB will say is that one of their athletes was involved in an incident
:12:50. > :12:53.involving theft alert that individual is safe and well.
:12:54. > :13:03.Suggestions of being held at gunpoint, suggestions of knives
:13:04. > :13:10.being involved but none of that difference by Rio 2016, the IOC for
:13:11. > :13:13.Team GB. All they will see if there was an incident and the individual
:13:14. > :13:24.involved is safe and well. It is obviously a very dangerous city. And
:13:25. > :13:29.the American swimmers? What is the latest with that one? Robbed at
:13:30. > :13:35.gunpoint? Stranger and stranger. Ryan Lochte
:13:36. > :13:39.and three of his US swimming team makes, reports first of all they
:13:40. > :13:45.were held at gunpoint in a taxi by criminals posing as police officers.
:13:46. > :13:49.The local police here in Rio said there was no evidence of a crime and
:13:50. > :13:53.then they wanted to seize the passports of the athletes. Ryan
:13:54. > :13:58.Lochte was already back in the US. Two of his team-mates had their
:13:59. > :14:03.passports seized at the airport. We were told to get off the flight late
:14:04. > :14:08.last night and helping the police with enquiries. Today police said
:14:09. > :14:14.they believe the perhaps made it up and there was perhaps an altercation
:14:15. > :14:19.at a petrol station. A video has emerged on social media supposedly
:14:20. > :14:24.involving Ryan Lochte and suggestions perhaps there was damage
:14:25. > :14:29.done to a door at a petrol station. Some kind of altercation. As I said
:14:30. > :14:32.and you said as well, it gets stranger by the day. Police don't
:14:33. > :14:40.believe there was any incident at all and Ryan Lochte is back in the
:14:41. > :14:43.US, the Olympic gold medallist. Thanks for now. Back with Chris a
:14:44. > :14:44.little bit later in the programme to look ahead to what we should be
:14:45. > :14:47.staying up for tonight. One other news-line out of Rio,
:14:48. > :14:50.we've had the first positive drugs test for a medallist at the Games
:14:51. > :14:52.weightlifter Izzat Artykhov from Kyrgistan has been stripped
:14:53. > :14:54.of his bronze medal. He tested positive for strychnine.
:14:55. > :15:13.A stimulant. A very toxic substance in the
:15:14. > :15:16.amounts. In small amounts it is considered a stimulant. It used to
:15:17. > :15:21.be the drug of choice for cheating cyclists. Still to come...
:15:22. > :15:23.More British medals but it hasn't been the best
:15:24. > :15:27.Liam Phillips was hoping to make it third time lucky at the Games
:15:28. > :15:43.but he didn't get very far in the BMX compettiton.
:15:44. > :15:49.Looking to go a lot further in the women's
:15:50. > :15:52.Guaranteed a medal but is another British athlete defending
:15:53. > :15:59.That historic gold in London as she became the first women's
:16:00. > :16:02.She's been up against a familar rival in the flyweight
:16:03. > :16:05.the Chinese woman that she beat in the London final.
:16:06. > :16:08.And she beat her again with a unanimous points
:16:09. > :16:16.decision to reach the gold medal fight on Saturday.
:16:17. > :16:21.I'm excited. I can't wait. This is what I've been training for for the
:16:22. > :16:26.last four years. I'm ready to go. You fought somebody
:16:27. > :16:31.you know very well and you beat in London. How much was that in your
:16:32. > :16:36.mind today? I wasn't thinking about it too much. Four years is a lots of
:16:37. > :16:38.time for somebody to change technique and strengths and
:16:39. > :16:41.weaknesses so I had to take it for what it was and go in their and
:16:42. > :16:46.stick to the tactics. Hijab was fantastic today. It when
:16:47. > :16:51.you the fight? I was using the jab, I've got long
:16:52. > :16:56.arms, and it paid off. It has been confirmed Nicola Adams
:16:57. > :16:57.is giving to fight the French boxer in Rio.
:16:58. > :17:01.Staying with the boxing, a handful of judges were stood
:17:02. > :17:03.down yesterday and won't officiate at these Games again, after some
:17:04. > :17:05.very controversial marking, especially in the men's heavyweight
:17:06. > :17:07.final and also the defeat of the Irish World
:17:08. > :17:12.Josh Buatsi won bronze for Team GB in the light-heavyweight divsision
:17:13. > :17:23.but says that poor judging hasn't been a major issue.
:17:24. > :17:30.From my point of view, my fights have been OK. There was just one
:17:31. > :17:34.last fight I think the referee could have been stricter but again, we all
:17:35. > :17:38.have different opinions and he has got his opinions on why he allowed
:17:39. > :17:44.whatever happened happen. If you look at it, there has been about...
:17:45. > :17:49.If there has been 200 fights and may be too bad decisions, it is a bit
:17:50. > :17:54.harsh to be so critical and critique those two fights out of 200, it's
:17:55. > :17:58.not bad. Again, what athlete would want that to happen to them? From
:17:59. > :18:01.the team's point of view, the judging and refereeing has been
:18:02. > :18:07.good. What now for you? Go home and
:18:08. > :18:11.literally switch off on boxing, let my body heal and recover. I haven't
:18:12. > :18:16.thought about what I'm doing next but the support from everyone has
:18:17. > :18:20.been brilliant. The lottery, support from athletes like myself, the whole
:18:21. > :18:24.team and we are all grateful for that because it has enabled us to
:18:25. > :18:26.travel the world, getting the experience we need to perform at
:18:27. > :18:29.Great Britain's Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge have won Team
:18:30. > :18:31.GB's medal number 52 in Rio with a bronze
:18:32. > :18:35.The world number 22's beat the world number five's China's Bi-ao Chai
:18:36. > :18:39.and Wei Hong 21-18 in a tight first game.
:18:40. > :18:41.But their opponents fought back in an even tighter second.
:18:42. > :18:47.It was neck and neck all the way before the Chinese took it 21-19.
:18:48. > :18:50.But in the third and final game the Brits were just too good,
:18:51. > :18:53.building up a big lead and they won the bronze with the first
:18:54. > :19:06.That's the country's first Olympic badminton medal in 12 years.
:19:07. > :19:14.got to go back to the mixed doubles in Athens for the last British
:19:15. > :19:19.triumph in the badminton at an Olympic Games. I can't describe my
:19:20. > :19:22.feelings. I am completely lost for words.
:19:23. > :19:32.Give us some words, Chris. It is mental. M... You know, literally I
:19:33. > :19:36.can't say anything because it is the most incredible feeling. Me and
:19:37. > :19:41.markers have worked so, so hard and to achieve this is... I literally
:19:42. > :19:46.can't say anything, Surrey. I am just so, so, so happy. -- sorry.
:19:47. > :19:50.Let's have a look at how some of the Team GB athletes have
:19:51. > :19:54.Jade Jones was the youngest British gold medallist four years ago
:19:55. > :19:56.and she has started her defence in taekwondo's
:19:57. > :19:59.The 23-year-old from Wales easily beat Morocco's Naima Bakkal
:20:00. > :20:01.in her first bout - that put her into the quarter-finals
:20:02. > :20:03.against Belgium's Raheleh Asemani later this evening.
:20:04. > :20:13.Jones has fought her twice before and won both times.
:20:14. > :20:18.It was a modest start to the women's Modern Pentathlon for Team GB.
:20:19. > :20:21.In the first event, the fencing, Kate French won 17 out of her 35
:20:22. > :20:25.bouts which puts her in 19th place in the standings.
:20:26. > :20:28.While Samantha Murray, who won a silver medal last time,
:20:29. > :20:32.She's currently in 31st place out of 36 competitors with the swimming,
:20:33. > :20:36.riding, running and shooting still to come.
:20:37. > :20:38.It's the second round of the women's golf tournament.
:20:39. > :20:41.Team GB are looking for the double after Justin Rose's success
:20:42. > :20:44.Charlie Hull is one off the lead on 7 under.

:20:47. > :20:55.Tonia Couch is through to the final of the 10 metre platform.
:20:56. > :20:58.She needed to finish in the top 12 in her semi-final and came 10th.
:20:59. > :21:01.He score was a long way off the medal contenders.
:21:02. > :21:09.But it was a painful day for Britain's hope in the BMX.
:21:10. > :21:13.He was involved in a nasty-looking crash early in his quarter-final.
