:00:00. > :00:00.are the main stories on BBC News. Now though here on BBC News, it is

:00:00. > :00:35.Olympic sports day. Hello I'm Olly Foster, these

:00:36. > :00:38.are our Olympic Sportsday headlines: Team GB can't be caught

:00:39. > :00:42.in the medal table. They will finish second

:00:43. > :00:46.behind the USA. And there's one more medal

:00:47. > :00:49.to come, but will it be The sport is almost over,

:00:50. > :00:55.but we'll show you the best of the action on the final

:00:56. > :01:01.day of competition. I'm Damien Johnson with the day's

:01:02. > :01:03.sport away from Rio, including a winning start

:01:04. > :01:06.for West Ham in their new stadium as Mikhail Antonio's late goal

:01:07. > :01:15.secure victory over Bournemouth. The greatest show on Earth is almost

:01:16. > :01:19.over for another four years and it has been the greatest

:01:20. > :01:22.for Great Britain in over 100 years. The competition is almost over

:01:23. > :01:25.and they cannot be caught in second The Rio Olympics has been one

:01:26. > :01:31.of firsts and history making Let's cross live to The Olympic Park

:01:32. > :01:36.and speak to our Sports News Hi Chris, this is unprecedented,

:01:37. > :01:40.the fact that Team GB have surpassed their tally

:01:41. > :01:52.from four years ago. This is unprecedented, the fact team

:01:53. > :01:58.surpassed that highlight from four years ago. It really is. A

:01:59. > :02:03.spectacular success for Team GB. Usually in this situation when a

:02:04. > :02:07.nation goes on to an Olympic Games following a home games, you see a

:02:08. > :02:11.dip. This time there is an improvement. That has never happened

:02:12. > :02:16.in Olympic history. Quite unbelievable. Let's look at the

:02:17. > :02:25.medal table. You can see Team GB sitting pretty in second. Surpassing

:02:26. > :02:30.the 65 medals won in London four years ago. The Americans topping the

:02:31. > :02:35.table. An unbelievable achievement from Team GB. Across the breadth of

:02:36. > :02:43.sports. Seven in gymnastics, 12 in cycling, six in the swimming. A

:02:44. > :02:49.spectacular effort all around. What did the Olympic Association make of

:02:50. > :02:55.it? Here is Bill Sweeney. They are a massive nation. 1.3 people there,

:02:56. > :02:59.state sponsored and invested programmes to help much money they

:03:00. > :03:03.spend. A very sporting nation themselves and they use that for all

:03:04. > :03:09.sorts of reasons. To beat them is fantastic. That wasn't on our radar

:03:10. > :03:14.coming in. Our goal was best ever awakens. We didn't think we would be

:03:15. > :03:19.fighting for second. The closing ceremony tonight just got a little

:03:20. > :03:27.bit of breaking news. The flag bearer will be the hockey captain,

:03:28. > :03:31.Kate Richardson Walsh. Yes. What an effort from the hockey girls as

:03:32. > :03:36.well. Richly deserved. Andy Murray was the flag bearer for the opening

:03:37. > :03:40.ceremony and now hockey is represented. Good for them if you

:03:41. > :03:49.disagree here in Rio. A fitting tribute. The first medal in hockey

:03:50. > :03:53.in around 12 years, I believe. Quite unbelievable achievement for hockey.

:03:54. > :03:59.Richly deserved that they take their place as flag-bearers in the closing

:04:00. > :04:03.ceremony. We know they had a massive party. Just getting back to the

:04:04. > :04:07.medal table. If we are to put an Asterix next to it, it is that

:04:08. > :04:11.Russia were missing over 100 athletes because of the doping

:04:12. > :04:21.scandal and saga that proceeded the games. They are 28 medals down on

:04:22. > :04:25.their 2012 return. Yes. I think it will be difficult to reflect on

:04:26. > :04:30.these games without remembering the Russian saga. There is no doubt the

:04:31. > :04:34.beginning of the schemes and the lead up to these games was dominated

:04:35. > :04:41.by the Russian doping scandal and 111 athletes from Russia who were

:04:42. > :04:45.due to be here when out here. Absolutely, that this country impact

:04:46. > :04:50.on the medal table. Countries will have benefited from that, including

:04:51. > :04:54.Team GB. Is difficult for the Russian athletes who were competing

:04:55. > :05:00.here because of the doping cloud hanging over their nation. A number

:05:01. > :05:09.of individuals from Russia with food and jeered at a locations. One

:05:10. > :05:13.swimmer who was caught cheating in the past, she was due to be

:05:14. > :05:18.suspended from these games, she had an appeal overturned, so she

:05:19. > :05:25.outcompeted. She did compete. Two silver medals in total for her. She

:05:26. > :05:31.caught up with our sports editor. It is really crazy. It is more like a

:05:32. > :05:38.war than a competition. Usually at competitions it is having fun, you

:05:39. > :05:50.meet with some people from different countries, some friends. But this is

:05:51. > :05:58.one his offer. It is not about positives, it is more about war. I

:05:59. > :06:04.was so surprised how American swimmers talked about me. Usually

:06:05. > :06:10.athletes don't listen to the media. Don't care what the media talking

:06:11. > :06:15.about. It doesn't matter for me. It is always special at the Olympic

:06:16. > :06:25.Games. When the games start, wars stop, right. This is like crazy for

:06:26. > :06:33.me. It was very hard. There is one more medal to come for Team GB. It

:06:34. > :06:40.will be gold or silver at. Absolutely. Joe Joyce in around an

:06:41. > :06:44.hour. She goes for silver or gold against the Frenchman. This is an

:06:45. > :06:48.intriguing part because the French competitive beat Joyce earlier in

:06:49. > :06:54.the year on the way to the World Championships, but Jill Joyce is in

:06:55. > :06:58.fine form in these Olympics. The Commonwealth gold medallist from

:06:59. > :07:03.Glasgow in 2014. The six foot six Londoner with a degree in fine arts.

:07:04. > :07:11.I will resist the canvas bands. He has a great chance tonight. Either

:07:12. > :07:19.gold or silver this evening for Jill Joyce. He has to stay away from the

:07:20. > :07:24.canvas. The highlight of the games for Brazil was last night. It is a

:07:25. > :07:32.football crazy country but they had never won an Olympic gold. They say

:07:33. > :07:38.that football is not a sportier, it is a religion. We witnessed those

:07:39. > :07:45.scenes last night. Neymar, the hero here in Brazil. A footballing hero.

:07:46. > :07:52.1-1 after extra time. It all felt him to score the winning penalty and

:07:53. > :07:58.the tears of relief from Neymar reflected the relief of a nation

:07:59. > :08:02.here in Brazil because things had been a bit stodgy in terms of their

:08:03. > :08:08.performances at these games. Everything rested on that game

:08:09. > :08:13.against Germany last night. It is redemption after the Germans

:08:14. > :08:18.destroyed Brazil in that World Cup final back in 2014. Neymar finishing

:08:19. > :08:25.things off nicely for Brazil. His tears, his emotion really reflecting

:08:26. > :08:30.the mood of a nation last night. I was on a bus when that Kim was

:08:31. > :08:34.ongoing. The whole bus erupted in celebration watching on their

:08:35. > :08:35.phones. That gives you an indication of what the gold medal means this

:08:36. > :08:43.country. Thank you very much indeed. There are 12 gold medals to be won

:08:44. > :08:47.on the last day of the Olympics. The first went to Kenya,

:08:48. > :08:49.Eliud Kipchoge won the marathon. He ran the second quickest marathon

:08:50. > :08:51.in Liondon this eyar but tjhis was a long way off

:08:52. > :08:54.World record pace. After his compatriot Jemima Sumgongs

:08:55. > :08:59.triumph it's the first time the same nation has won both

:09:00. > :09:02.Marathons at the same Games Ethiopia's Feyisa Lilesa

:09:03. > :09:07.took the silver medal, ahead of Mo Farah's training

:09:08. > :09:10.partner, Galen Rupp of the USA. And Great Britain's Callum Hawkins

:09:11. > :09:12.ran a great race to finish in the top ten, a fine result

:09:13. > :09:19.for the 24-year-old from Scotland. The last cycling medal

:09:20. > :09:21.of the Olympics has gone to Switzerland, Nino Schurter

:09:22. > :09:23.was victorious in the Slovakia's Peter Sagan,

:09:24. > :09:30.green jersey winner at the Tour de France, opted to compete

:09:31. > :09:36.here after deciding the road race He was a junior world

:09:37. > :09:42.champion but hasn't ridden competitively off road for years,

:09:43. > :09:45.he was in the top three on the first lap but a puncture put

:09:46. > :09:48.paid to his challenge. But Schurter was a deserved winner,

:09:49. > :09:51.the five times World Champion now has an Olympic Gold to add

:09:52. > :09:54.to the silver he won Before we show you some

:09:55. > :10:07.of the other sport today, let's just take a look back at one

:10:08. > :10:10.of those medals won Britain's most successful Olympic

:10:11. > :10:13.track and field athlete, Mo Farah, has been reflecting

:10:14. > :10:15.on his double-double, adding the 5,000 metre to title

:10:16. > :10:43.and repeating his London feat. Is. Watching highly cuddly Selassie

:10:44. > :10:47.thinking, one day I want to be another big champion and then to do

:10:48. > :10:52.it. There are no words to describe it. To do it in London and have

:10:53. > :11:01.another four years and do it in real, it has been amazing. Might

:11:02. > :11:06.medals are dedicated to my kids. You will have one to pop round each of

:11:07. > :11:11.their heads now. For sure. I want to hang these medals around their

:11:12. > :11:15.heads. I did what I did for my kids and that is all they can do as a

:11:16. > :11:19.parent. I work hard and I spend time away from my family making bigger

:11:20. > :11:25.sacrifices but I try to work on my speed, insurance, everything and

:11:26. > :11:31.tactically, working out what other guys are good at and trying to come

:11:32. > :11:36.up with the best way to win in the race.

:11:37. > :11:39.Let's take a break from the Olympics becasue there's plenty of other

:11:40. > :12:06.sport on the home front inclduing two matches in the Premier League.

:12:07. > :12:12.Four years ago, this arena hosted some of the finest Olympic moments

:12:13. > :12:16.for Britain. West Ham wanted to have the same impact on their football.

:12:17. > :12:23.Bournemouth came to burst the bubble and if that meant an incident free

:12:24. > :12:28.first half, they succeeded. Only one attempt on target. The way teams

:12:29. > :12:32.tend to raise their games at venues like these. Bournemouth did their

:12:33. > :12:37.best to spoil the party but with the backing of almost 60,000 fans it is

:12:38. > :12:43.hard not to be inspired. The hammers were getting closer. Who would be

:12:44. > :12:47.the hero? First the villain. A second yellow card, Bournemouth down

:12:48. > :12:54.to ten men. To complete the script, the gold was needed. Antonio was the

:12:55. > :12:58.man to oblige. Not the highest jump this stadium has seen but not their

:12:59. > :13:04.sister. West Ham celebrating what could be the start of a golden era.

:13:05. > :13:18.We just deserved it, reporting and we wanted it more. It is a great

:13:19. > :13:28.feeling. Losing games isn't a good feeling.

:13:29. > :13:33.It is not something we won today. The fixture played its part in that.

:13:34. > :13:37.It has been a tough run of games. We studied at Manchester United and

:13:38. > :13:40.West Ham but that is the league we are in and the games will get harder

:13:41. > :13:46.so we need to pick up wins points and Kodaira confidence.

:13:47. > :13:48.Middlesbrough striker Christian Stuani scored twice

:13:49. > :13:50.on his Premier League debut as his side beat their north east

:13:51. > :13:52.rivals Sunderland 2-1 at the Stadium of Light.

:13:53. > :13:55.Middlesbrough are unbeaten after returning to the top flight

:13:56. > :14:04.As first home games go, this was a tough one for David Moyes. His

:14:05. > :14:10.Sunderland side against local rivals Middlesbrough. Unlike -- and like

:14:11. > :14:16.most derbies, there was a hike. With some real quality. Kristian still

:14:17. > :14:18.only had a super goal given for the advantage but how long could crank

:14:19. > :14:25.APPLAUSE Men remain ahead?

:14:26. > :14:30.Sunderland seemed shaken and offered little resistance. They lost John

:14:31. > :14:34.O'Shea to injury. Barrett doubled their advantage. The same scorer and

:14:35. > :14:39.this is a perfect performance from the visitors. As you would expect,

:14:40. > :14:44.Sunderland found their stride. Patrick van Aanholt denied the

:14:45. > :14:48.American goalkeeper was less impressive shortly afterwards.

:14:49. > :14:53.Pushing the ball to Van Aanholt who did get his goal. That was as good

:14:54. > :14:56.as it got for Sunderland. They left themselves too much to do.

:14:57. > :15:09.Middlesbrough are applied only when the first game was even tougher than

:15:10. > :15:14.expected. Their efforts were terrific. They have good. We lost

:15:15. > :15:17.the first goal it was a good goal. We could have posted them better.

:15:18. > :15:23.The second group was more disappointing. We lost our way a

:15:24. > :15:28.bit. We played well for the first half-hour. We lost John O'Shea. We

:15:29. > :15:32.are short of the second half is -- centre pass. They came out and gave

:15:33. > :15:35.everything they could to get a result.

:15:36. > :15:40.The key was the first half. They told the players the first minutes

:15:41. > :15:47.would be the key because in these games we know they will start the

:15:48. > :15:55.game 150% and we couldn't stop them in the first minutes and when we had

:15:56. > :15:59.the quality we played well and the game was open and we were more

:16:00. > :16:01.comfortable and the game was easier in the first half but we had our

:16:02. > :16:05.problems. In the Championship,

:16:06. > :16:07.the East Anglian derby finished all square with Ipswich and Norwich

:16:08. > :16:09.drawing 1-1 at Portman Road. Ipswich had an early goal disallowed

:16:10. > :16:12.but their neighbours Norwich - who are hoping to bounce straight

:16:13. > :16:15.back to the Premier League, opened Jonas Knudson, with only his second

:16:16. > :16:20.goal for Ipswich, equalised Neither side could find a winner

:16:21. > :16:28.in the second half and Norwich maintain their unbeaten

:16:29. > :16:30.start to the season. Cal Crutchlow has become the first

:16:31. > :16:33.British rider to win a MotoGP title in 35 years after taking

:16:34. > :16:35.the chequered flag first Crutchlow, who races

:16:36. > :16:39.for the non-works LCR Honda team, came from 10th place on the grid

:16:40. > :16:42.in wet conditions to beat Italy's Valentino Rossi

:16:43. > :16:43.by seven seconds. That makes him the first Brit

:16:44. > :16:47.on top of the podium since Andy Murray has won his 22nd

:16:48. > :16:56.match in a row, beating Canada's Milos Raonic in straight

:16:57. > :16:58.sets to reach the final The longest winning streak

:16:59. > :17:01.of Murray's career covers his Queen's, Wimbledon

:17:02. > :17:06.and Olympic triumphs. This victory, his 50th of the year,

:17:07. > :17:10.was a repeat of the Wimbledon final. He'll face the US Open champion

:17:11. > :17:30.Marin Cilic of Croatia Charlotte Edwards and the southern

:17:31. > :17:34.vipers one over western storm. The former inland captain had a 78 run

:17:35. > :17:40.first wicket stand. Suzie Bates saw the focus just on 141. Despite a

:17:41. > :17:45.middle order wobble, the fibrous powered home with seven balls loved.

:17:46. > :17:49.The current England skipper, Heather Knight, could only score six. Storm

:17:50. > :18:01.posted 140-5. Many thanks. We have more action

:18:02. > :18:08.coming up but another gold medallist for Team GB has been speaking to

:18:09. > :18:12.day. Woman's boxing editor debut in London and Nicola Adams became its

:18:13. > :18:15.first champion. She retained her flyweight title last night. She

:18:16. > :18:21.would decide just yet on whether she will compete in Tokyo in 2020, known

:18:22. > :18:29.she is just lucky to have made it to Rio after a tough four years. In

:18:30. > :18:37.2013 I had a shoulder operation. I was out of boxing for eight months

:18:38. > :18:41.then I came back. I want the Commonwealth Games, European games

:18:42. > :18:49.as well and then the back end of 2015 I snapped a couple of tendons

:18:50. > :18:58.in my ankle. I fell over. I was sober, by the way. Yes. I wasn't

:18:59. > :19:03.able to do anything again for another couple of months, knowing we

:19:04. > :19:10.had the qualifiers in April. Luckily I was ready for that, one of the

:19:11. > :19:19.European qualifiers, championships, when traffic is, came into games

:19:20. > :19:24.pics. You may it sound easy. Clearly you put in all that hard work. Have

:19:25. > :19:28.you been able to reflect a little bit on just what you have done for

:19:29. > :19:35.British boxing and for women in boxing? Yeah, it is still sinking in

:19:36. > :19:40.a little bit. It is nice to think I have created history and I am now

:19:41. > :19:46.the most accomplished British amateur boxer we have ever had. For

:19:47. > :19:52.women's boxing it has boosted it a game after London 2012, 2016,

:19:53. > :19:56.hopefully we can increase participation again. What now for

:19:57. > :20:04.you? When you come to another one? Will we see boxing, go into acting?

:20:05. > :20:09.I am going to go on a nice holiday, put my feet up on a beach somewhere,

:20:10. > :20:16.chill out and I will come back and have a chat with my team and see

:20:17. > :20:21.where I go next. Nicola Adams speaking to the BBC. Brazil candle

:20:22. > :20:27.on a high on the last day. They beat Italy in the beach volleyball. Both

:20:28. > :20:35.nations are in the final. Let's go live strip away, because it looks as

:20:36. > :20:41.though Brazil, have they won? It doesn't look like they have. 23-21.

:20:42. > :20:45.They are very close to winning this because they are to set up. These

:20:46. > :20:55.are live pictures. They won the silver medal in Beijing and London.

:20:56. > :21:00.You can see Neymar in the crowd. Italy have always contested a medal

:21:01. > :21:05.in the past six Olympics. They upset the highly fancied USA in the

:21:06. > :21:13.semifinals. It is the best of five sets. The match is on the red button

:21:14. > :21:17.or at the BBC sport website. It looked as though, the score was

:21:18. > :21:23.wrong, it looked as though Brazil had got it because it is the first

:21:24. > :21:27.to 21. Italy challenged a point. It is now the first clear points to win

:21:28. > :21:32.this set. If Brazil take it they will become Olympic champions. They

:21:33. > :21:38.have got one point ahead. If they get the next point then they will

:21:39. > :21:44.become Olympic champions. You will have to go on to your red button to

:21:45. > :21:49.see if they can do it. We are almost out of time on Olympic sports day.

:21:50. > :21:54.Always the way. We will return at half seven and show you what

:21:55. > :21:58.happened in the volleyball. Over the last 16 days, some very familiar

:21:59. > :22:04.names have delivered yet again. Kenny Trott, Farah, Wiggins, Stanley

:22:05. > :22:07.and Glover for Team GB. We leave you with a view of those Olympians who

:22:08. > :23:27.surprised us all, perhaps even themselves. Goodbye.

:23:28. > :23:39.These girls are strong, sassy, inspirational. I am so happy to be

:23:40. > :23:41.here with them. It is Joe Clark of Great Britain, the 23-year-old who

:23:42. > :24:11.is the Olympic champion. Looking very at home in this Olympic

:24:12. > :24:17.final. Bronze medal for Conway and I have to say that she fully deserved

:24:18. > :24:24.that. Last role of the dice for Sophie Hitchen. It is down the

:24:25. > :24:33.middle. The hand is in the air. Is it big enough? It is. Sophie Hitchen

:24:34. > :24:42.has saved her best for last. It is in. A bronze medal for the British

:24:43. > :24:53.pair, a first ever. Great Britain are in the good final. He is inside

:24:54. > :24:55.the camp. He has done it. Today was a good day to win and everybody has

:24:56. > :25:30.worked toward this. It is amazing. It has been a quieter weekend. The

:25:31. > :25:33.train is moving north and east. But the small hours we will see heavy

:25:34. > :25:37.rain across northern England stretching down to East Anglia as

:25:38. > :25:42.well. A lot of low cloud, mist and fog over the hills of the South West

:25:43. > :25:47.and a warm night, quite humid. 16 or 17 degrees. Into the morning, about

:25:48. > :25:52.a great side in northern England. Heavy rain. It is only clears away

:25:53. > :25:56.into the North Sea. It leaves behind some rain but that forces are out.

:25:57. > :26:01.It will brighten up nicely in the eastern side of Scotland. There will

:26:02. > :26:06.be sunshine and warmth. Pretty grey in Wales. 20 degrees in Cardiff.
