:01:07. > :01:12.It is a perfect day for Jessica Welcome to Olympics tonight and

:01:12. > :01:16.what a night it promises to be as day 13 comes to an end and the

:01:16. > :01:20.London 2012 Games reaches its final furlongs. We have all of the action

:01:20. > :01:30.from another memorable day in the company of these guys and these

:01:30. > :01:40.

:01:40. > :01:47.Yes! He is on route to gold and the world record. You can't be serious.

:01:47. > :01:57.That ball was on the line. pride of Sheffield, the pride of

:01:57. > :02:06.

:02:06. > :02:16.We have John McEnroe! And double gold medallist Daley

:02:16. > :02:21.

:02:21. > :02:31.If that wasn't enough for you, we have gold medal heptathlete Jessica

:02:31. > :02:36.

:02:36. > :02:41.I think you've been trying to avoid the crowds. This is amazing. It is

:02:41. > :02:46.brilliant, I am overwhelmed by the support. I am enjoying this

:02:46. > :02:52.Olympics. We are going to go inside in a minute so we can speak

:02:52. > :02:57.properly, but this has been a wonderful event. Every event in the

:02:58. > :03:03.Olympics has been like this. The races, the triathlon has. It has

:03:03. > :03:07.been brilliant. These guys have really made it. This has been the

:03:07. > :03:14.best Olympics. John McEnroe, Your loving this. It is just like

:03:14. > :03:20.Wimbledon. Her I wish it was like Wimbledon! This is incredible. It

:03:20. > :03:25.will be like this until the end. have got more from you coming up.

:03:25. > :03:32.We have got swimming, taekwondo, boxing and dressage, but we will

:03:32. > :03:38.start with the men's 200m final. The young pretender, Yohan Blake,

:03:38. > :03:48.and the one and only Usain Bolt. The moment of truth has finally

:03:48. > :03:48.

:03:48. > :04:40.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 52 seconds

:04:40. > :04:45.to. Offices and the event he started at. The event where he bows

:04:45. > :04:51.dump -- burst onto the scene as a junior at the age of 15, winning

:04:51. > :05:01.the World Championships. He has dominated the world of sprinting,

:05:01. > :05:01.

:05:01. > :05:58.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 52 seconds

:05:58. > :06:02.takes silver. -- gold all the way. He is unique. You can't argue that

:06:02. > :06:07.he has no equal. He is incomparable he has no equal. He is incomparable

:06:07. > :06:13.in the world of sprinting. You wanted to come here and cement

:06:13. > :06:19.your legend. Tell me what it means. This is what I wanted and I got it.

:06:19. > :06:22.I'm very proud of myself. I had a rough season, I came here and did

:06:22. > :06:28.what I had to do. Is it more special to celebrate with these

:06:28. > :06:34.guys? Without a doubt. My coach will be going crazy right now. We

:06:34. > :06:39.pushed each other. This is the end product. Let me ask you, this year

:06:39. > :06:49.has not been the easiest of build up. You said you were 95% fit, but

:06:49. > :06:50.

:06:50. > :06:54.you have still been able to do this. Sum up what this means. It is hard.

:06:54. > :07:03.I am really dedicated to my work and I know what London meant to me.

:07:03. > :07:09.I am happy. You are a legend. Per and have set it better myself!

:07:09. > :07:19.The first man to defend his title, his fourth Olympic gold medal. No

:07:19. > :07:20.

:07:20. > :07:26.Incredible. Running out of superlatives for him. Did you enjoy

:07:26. > :07:31.that? It was incredible. We thought you needed an adrenalin rush, you

:07:31. > :07:37.haven't done much recently! A bit of a low. Let's talk about Usain

:07:37. > :07:42.Bolt. The first double double. always said he wanted to be a

:07:42. > :07:47.legend and in order to do that he would have to do the double double.

:07:47. > :07:52.I guess the legend continues. He is still easily the best. He can

:07:52. > :07:56.continue to be so for as long as he wants. I suspect he will lack a

:07:56. > :08:00.little bit of motivation because he likes doing other things. Michael

:08:00. > :08:04.Johnson said yesterday that when he interviewed him recently, he asked

:08:04. > :08:08.him questions about when he knew it was time to retire. Michael said

:08:08. > :08:13.when you start winning buy less. He looked like he was pushed by Yohan

:08:13. > :08:17.Blake. There was an element of pressure coming into this. You know

:08:17. > :08:22.about living up to expectation. People were a little bit worried

:08:22. > :08:25.and not sure about his form. He dominated everything for so long

:08:25. > :08:35.but then what Blake, Lun Gong and challenging him. But he is

:08:35. > :08:36.

:08:36. > :08:41.incredible. He is a true champion. Brilliant to watch. I think he held

:08:41. > :08:45.back. People were wondering if he was injured or if he had lost it. I

:08:45. > :08:51.don't think there was ever a doubt. He was gone. Nobody would catch him.

:08:51. > :08:55.He knew it, everybody knew it. The guide is magic. He lights up the

:08:55. > :08:59.crowd. He has such a huge personality, he is brilliant for

:08:59. > :09:05.the sport. It in the last few years, our sport would have sunk without a

:09:05. > :09:10.trace without him. Everybody owes him a debt of gratitude. He is the

:09:10. > :09:13.guide that is bringing the crowds back. It would have been a funny

:09:13. > :09:22.dilemma if the guy that everybody wanted to see was not the best

:09:22. > :09:28.guide. Compare him to 2008, 200m there, can you see any difference

:09:28. > :09:35.in his tiny? He looked more under pressure tonight. -- his technique.

:09:35. > :09:40.It blows me away watching him. It is incredible. It is not comparable

:09:40. > :09:46.to anybody else. I was in the box after the race and he is so much

:09:47. > :09:51.bigger than these guys. It seems like... We are talking about what

:09:51. > :09:58.will happen in the next four years, but he can get better. I think he

:09:58. > :10:03.will be in Rio. It you think so? can't afford not to be. For Blake,

:10:03. > :10:07.to live in his shadow, arguably he would be the best in the world if

:10:07. > :10:11.it wasn't for Bolt, he will be pushing him. And you have Warren

:10:11. > :10:15.Weir. If he was from the UK, we would all be talking about him.

:10:15. > :10:22.Both of those guys are two or three years younger. They have time on

:10:22. > :10:26.their hands. With plate, having beaten him in the Jamaica trials, I

:10:26. > :10:30.think he will want to assert himself over the next few years. I

:10:30. > :10:40.think it will be really fascinating. Let's listen to the Jamaican

:10:40. > :10:42.

:10:42. > :10:48.Off they go. Blake was up very quickly. Bolt ahead of the field

:10:48. > :10:58.already. Usain Bolt comes off the turn in front. The big man is in

:10:58. > :10:58.

:10:58. > :11:01.charge. Blake is coming fast. Usain Bolt wins again! Look at the time.

:11:01. > :11:06.19.32. Usain Bolt wins the sprint double for the second Olympics in a

:11:06. > :11:11.row. Is there are thrown in England big enough to hold this man? I

:11:11. > :11:19.think not. These are the scenes in Jamaica House tonight. Everyone is

:11:19. > :11:25.Jamaican tonight! Jess and I were looking at the crowd earlier and

:11:25. > :11:29.families. Everybody wants a piece of the action. In London, you got

:11:29. > :11:34.so many different countries that have communities here and the fact

:11:34. > :11:37.that there's so much yellow and green in the stadium tonight.

:11:37. > :11:43.Jamaica have dominated. It is a very proud moment for their country.

:11:43. > :11:46.It is brilliant to see. They have taken the one-two-three. It is

:11:46. > :11:50.incredible to watch and the support they had in the stadium was just

:11:50. > :11:54.like we had. They have made sprinting their national sport.

:11:55. > :11:59.They have, and they've been good at it for a few years. They have

:11:59. > :12:03.turned the corner. They always had people that were talented

:12:03. > :12:07.physically, but now these guys seem to have the mental toughness to go

:12:08. > :12:13.with their talent. What I like about these guys is the fact that

:12:13. > :12:16.they have the joy of life. When they are not participating, they

:12:16. > :12:21.are having a good time and they are letting people know they are having

:12:21. > :12:28.a good time. That makes them really attractive. Hopefully Bolt will be

:12:28. > :12:34.left alone to a tiny degree in his country. I have seen him talk

:12:34. > :12:38.publicly about being able to be himself. He is such a superstar. It

:12:38. > :12:44.is a country of 2.5 million people. It feels like they are dominating

:12:44. > :12:49.the Games. They have less than 10 medals and it feels like they are

:12:49. > :12:54.at the top of the table. It is the Blue Riband events they are taking.

:12:54. > :13:02.Everybody sees it around the world. They enjoy themselves. He manages

:13:02. > :13:08.to pull a face on the blocks or making gesticulation with his hands.

:13:08. > :13:14.The kids love it. Nobody came into these games with more expectation

:13:14. > :13:24.from asked Van Jessica Ennis. But boy, did she deliver. Jessica Ennis

:13:24. > :13:34.has got the potential to set the The fastest time ever by a

:13:34. > :13:34.

:13:34. > :13:44.heptathlete! Come on! One step closer to the gold medal for

:13:44. > :13:54.

:13:54. > :14:01.Jessica Ennis. Just get Ennis is Jessica Ennis is the Olympic

:14:01. > :14:05.champion. The best all-round athlete in the world. What do you

:14:05. > :14:11.feel like when you see that? Be it is such a great feeling, I can't

:14:11. > :14:15.describe it. It is just really emotional. Just being there for

:14:15. > :14:19.those two days and for it to come together the way it did and now to

:14:19. > :14:24.be sat here, all of that pressure off my shoulders, with my medal and

:14:24. > :14:33.I can just enjoy every moment. have stayed for you, give them away

:14:33. > :14:38.for! They are brilliant. Everywhere you go, this is what it will be

:14:38. > :14:42.like. People just want to have a piece of you and talk to you and

:14:42. > :14:49.congratulate you and thank you. I've got a permanent smile on my

:14:49. > :14:53.face. My jaws are aching! Everyone has a buzz around the stadium. They

:14:53. > :14:58.are enjoying every minute of the Olympics. It is great to see how

:14:58. > :15:08.everyone has got behind all of us. It is just a brilliant feeling.

:15:08. > :15:10.

:15:10. > :15:14.I've never managed to cope with it, but she is down to earth and has

:15:14. > :15:18.not spent her time in glamourous places, and when she's not spending

:15:19. > :15:24.her time in the chauffeur-driven limousines, she is very down-to-

:15:24. > :15:33.earth. When you came off the final straight, what was going through

:15:33. > :15:38.your mind? I was a little bit behind the two girls, and I thought

:15:38. > :15:42.this was my last big moment, something less in my legs -- left

:15:42. > :15:48.to my legs, and the last time I was beaten by her, so I was going to

:15:48. > :15:51.make sure I crossed the line first and finished with a victory.

:15:51. > :15:55.were such a crowd-pleaser at that moment, in more ways than one.

:15:55. > :16:03.There is a picture of you with the arms in your air, and you can feel

:16:03. > :16:07.the relief when you see that. see to within my Tennis Halle, Andy

:16:07. > :16:11.Murray at Wimbledon, so I imagine it was up by 10 times, because that

:16:11. > :16:15.is a lot different than Wimbledon. I congratulate you with being able

:16:15. > :16:23.to handle the pressure. Please get a little sleep. Have a wonderful

:16:23. > :16:28.vacation. Any plans to be in another event? For me, this year,

:16:28. > :16:32.I'm going to rest and recover and enjoy it for a bit. The then it is

:16:32. > :16:35.the World Championships in Moscow, so that is what I will aim for.

:16:35. > :16:40.were discussing your future last night. Michael Johnson and Denise

:16:40. > :16:44.Lewis were discussing your potential over the hurdles, and

:16:44. > :16:51.whether you might want to concentrate on just one event. The

:16:51. > :16:57.toll on your body, obviously, is so great as a malty event athlete. Is

:16:57. > :17:01.that something you are thinking about? -- multi- event. My mind is

:17:01. > :17:07.all over the place, but I feel like I want to carry on with the

:17:07. > :17:10.heptathlon and think if I can get to the 7,000. Mark. But eventually

:17:10. > :17:16.your body will say it has had enough and you pick up more

:17:16. > :17:20.injuries, but after that I would love to give the hurdles a real go.

:17:20. > :17:23.It is a band of brothers, you people doing all the events, the

:17:23. > :17:30.girls and the guys, you walk together, and I think we should

:17:30. > :17:40.remind ourselves of the great thing -- things you did, Daley Thompson.

:17:40. > :17:42.

:17:42. > :17:52.Daley Thompson with a remarkable start. He is miles ahead it. Look

:17:52. > :18:04.

:18:04. > :18:09.at the clock! Coming down nicely, It is another fine, fine start. The

:18:09. > :18:18.master is clear! Daley Thompson, the greatest all-round athlete in

:18:18. > :18:24.Daley Thompson was busy persuading her she should forget the

:18:24. > :18:33.heptathlon and not leave it. think there is unfinished business.

:18:33. > :18:43.If you are in fantastic shape on your first day... You're not too

:18:43. > :18:49.chubby. A banks, daily. The next two events, average for you. Don't

:18:49. > :18:56.get negative! She won the gold. know, but there is more. It is

:18:56. > :19:00.different in tennis, John. You are never looking for perfection.

:19:00. > :19:05.was great was seeing how much use to light up the crowd and you look

:19:05. > :19:11.like every event, every one of the 10 events, you were smiling. Even

:19:11. > :19:15.in the 1,500 metres you managed it. That was my happy place, being in a

:19:15. > :19:20.big competition, that was my happy place. That is where I enjoyed

:19:20. > :19:25.being. The training is hard and sometimes it's a bit miserable, but

:19:25. > :19:30.for me, if I couldn't be happy there, it wouldn't have been worth

:19:30. > :19:33.doing. What was the biggest challenge for you in the last six

:19:33. > :19:37.months? Signor face everywhere, becoming the pin-up girl of the

:19:37. > :19:42.Games, did he get to a point where you thought, they all want me to

:19:42. > :19:46.win this and I am feeling it? definitely felt it. I tried to

:19:46. > :19:50.block it out as much as I could. I was privileged to be in that

:19:50. > :19:55.position, more than anything, not being part of the last Olympics, so

:19:55. > :19:58.a great position for me. More than anything it was the training. The

:19:58. > :20:02.hard training, sitting in the gym, doing the running session and I

:20:02. > :20:07.wondered why I was doing it. Because you can be the greatest

:20:07. > :20:13.shape ever and then it comes to the Olympics and things go wrong. I was

:20:13. > :20:17.just really anxious about it. much as everybody wanted you to be

:20:17. > :20:21.in Beijing, to be in front of your home crowd and have that reception,

:20:21. > :20:26.especially on the first morning, so many people said it there we have

:20:26. > :20:32.seen so many Olympics where it is how boring in the morning session,

:20:32. > :20:37.but your first day was beautiful. That is what I expected, a few

:20:37. > :20:43.empty seats, because it was early, but to step out there and see a

:20:43. > :20:47.full stadium and the cheering was just amazing. And you have a lovely

:20:47. > :20:52.wedding to plan as well. He s, I have some things to do, fun things,

:20:52. > :21:00.and I can have a break, dress shopping, flower arranging, I love

:21:00. > :21:05.all that! Daley Thompson's face glazed over. John has had a few of

:21:05. > :21:12.those, to be fair. The second one was better, but good luck with the

:21:13. > :21:22.Jade Jones was fighting in the tae kwon do, and what a day the 19-

:21:22. > :21:27.J Jones, British Olympian, and an emphatic winner in the first round,

:21:27. > :21:33.and she has sprinted into the tae kwon do quarter finals. Wales is

:21:33. > :21:39.finding itself a pocket-sized battling heroin. She is into the

:21:39. > :21:42.Olympic semi-finals. Jade Jones is an Olympic finalist! And if there

:21:42. > :21:49.has been a fine a moment in the history of tae kwon do in this

:21:49. > :21:53.country, none of us have ever seen it. Jade Jones won three fights

:21:53. > :21:57.through the day, and the 19-year- old was going for goal at The Excel

:21:57. > :22:07.Arena tonight. She was up against the Chinese world champion and we

:22:07. > :22:08.

:22:08. > :22:13.will join it at the start of the The final round of the Olympic

:22:13. > :22:21.final, the final two minutes. Just two minutes standing between Jade

:22:21. > :22:31.Jones, and you know what. She is up against one of the sports deadliest

:22:31. > :22:37.

:22:37. > :22:47.exponents. Jade Jones in the blue, Attacking back kicks, but she looks

:22:47. > :22:48.

:22:48. > :22:53.weary in her legs, the Chinese. That young lady is giving her a

:22:53. > :22:58.head full of problems at the moment. The database running in the

:22:58. > :23:01.background, subconsciously, they have to choose what distance to

:23:01. > :23:08.throw at, when to do it, how to do it, but it is all about Jones at

:23:08. > :23:13.the moment. Two points is not a lot at this stage. Another caution

:23:13. > :23:17.against the Chinese for the pushing and that could be costly. Jade

:23:17. > :23:27.Jones has got one against her, so she cannot hang back. The Chinese

:23:27. > :23:35.was looking, but Jones has scored again. 3-0! The Chinese athlete

:23:35. > :23:38.takes it, and that helps Jones even more. 4-0. Not time to start

:23:39. > :23:43.believing, because tae kwon do has caused can rattle up in the blink

:23:43. > :23:48.of an eye but we are into the final minute and James Joe -- Jade Jones

:23:48. > :23:52.is on the brink of something special. She has conceded a point

:23:52. > :23:59.penalty, so the lead is back to just three, but she is within reach

:23:59. > :24:05.of a head shot, but not any more. Four points clear! Point by point,

:24:05. > :24:09.that gold is getting closer and closer. Paul Green can barely

:24:09. > :24:18.contain himself. As I suspect few of you back home it will be able to

:24:18. > :24:22.do. Who thought she could get sowing -- excited about tae kwon

:24:22. > :24:28.do? That is the beauty of sport and the beauty of the Games. That is

:24:28. > :24:32.the gift of the game's from tae kwon do. It is all about Jade Jones,

:24:32. > :24:38.in a dominant form. She picks up another point and she is on the

:24:38. > :24:42.cast. It has been brought back to four. Very quickly. But she is on

:24:42. > :24:46.the cusp. Never has a British tae kwon do player been able to call

:24:46. > :24:53.themselves Olympic champion. The countdown will begin. She has to be

:24:53. > :25:03.careful. Three points will concede the gold medal and she's just two

:25:03. > :25:06.

:25:07. > :25:10.points ahead now. Keep an eye on You little beauty! And the teenage

:25:10. > :25:18.keeking superstars -- superstar from North Wales is the Olympic

:25:18. > :25:23.Jade Jones the first ever Olympic tae kwon do champion for Team GB,

:25:23. > :25:30.how does that feel? It is crazy. I have dreamt about it for ages and

:25:30. > :25:33.it is amazing. The crowd have been just amazing. You have won a Youth

:25:33. > :25:40.Olympic gold medal, but how does this compare? That was special at

:25:40. > :25:44.the time because I was only a junior, but this is crazy. How have

:25:44. > :25:50.you remained calm? He won 19 years old, in front of an incredible

:25:51. > :25:55.crowd, and delivered a incredible performance. My coach, Paul Green,

:25:55. > :26:05.he is a legend. I wouldn't have been mean with at -- near without

:26:05. > :26:07.

:26:07. > :26:12.Jade Jones getting her gold medal today. 19 years old, our first ever

:26:13. > :26:17.Olympic gold medallist in tae kwon do. And what an incredible feeling

:26:17. > :26:20.that must be. What is it like when it goes round your neck? It is the

:26:20. > :26:26.best feeling in the world, especially when the crowd is there

:26:27. > :26:36.and you hear the national anthem, it's a brilliant feeling. Well,

:26:37. > :27:15.

:27:15. > :27:20.The this is the scene at now, and there is Jade Jones, doing the

:27:20. > :27:24.classic biking of the gold medal. I am sure you did a few of those.

:27:24. > :27:31.don't remember trying to bite one, but I do have a nice little

:27:31. > :27:35.collection. Rafael Nadal lights -- likes to bite the Cup, so he

:27:35. > :27:40.probably did that in 2008 when he won the gold. I'm not quite sure

:27:40. > :27:49.why people do that. Is it an instinctive reaction? They have

:27:49. > :27:57.seen people, so they do it again. Did you fall for it, Jessica?

:27:57. > :28:02.An amateur mistake. She won't do it next time. What a day. She started

:28:02. > :28:06.at 10:30am, and Imry end at 11pm, or even a few minutes after -- it

:28:06. > :28:11.might end. It is like when you do so many events, you have to keep

:28:11. > :28:15.building up. It is a long day and the adrenalin is pumping and you

:28:15. > :28:23.are nervous and anxious. You're on a massive roller-coaster, down for

:28:23. > :28:27.those hours, then up for those days. You know what this means, folks. We

:28:27. > :28:37.had none of the yesterday, but now we can have a little blast of

:28:37. > :28:38.

:28:38. > :28:48.Spandau Ballet! Yes,, you can move the arrow. 23 goals, John. More

:28:48. > :28:54.

:28:54. > :28:59.Will we get to 35? I doubt we will get to 35. Don't be a pessimist.

:28:59. > :29:06.But there's not many days left. They will have to be events we have

:29:06. > :29:10.never previously won or even entered in the categories? He John

:29:10. > :29:16.turned up for the 100, they would have given a house. There was a

:29:16. > :29:20.feeling that we had come to expect the success in his games, and we

:29:20. > :29:25.were reminded of a few Olympics ago where we weren't quite so dominant

:29:25. > :29:31.in many sports, but it is a good feeling. I think the British have a

:29:31. > :29:34.problem with success. First of all we started with the fact that we

:29:34. > :29:40.were worried we would not win anything, now we are worried we are

:29:40. > :29:46.winning too much. Let's enjoy it the right and see what comes.

:29:46. > :29:52.Jones enjoying it, being grabbed, and hopefully exported over to

:29:52. > :29:56.being to start an interview. Daley Thompson hit the nail on the head.

:29:56. > :30:01.They were a couple of days where it was a bit bitchy. That is just down

:30:01. > :30:10.to the timetable and the good events -- a bit itchy. Let's hear

:30:10. > :30:16.Talk to me about the experience on the podium. It was amazing, I sang

:30:16. > :30:19.the national anthem. The best moment in my life. Take a look at

:30:19. > :30:24.it and talk it -- talk me through what it means. Be it is crazy, I

:30:24. > :30:28.have seen pictures, I have watched people getting this week and I

:30:28. > :30:31.wanted one so badly. To finally have it around my neck, I still

:30:31. > :30:37.don't believe it. Have you been inspired by the British

:30:37. > :30:43.performances this week? 100%. Britain has done amazing. Everyone

:30:43. > :30:48.has made me think I want that. To become the first ever one to do it

:30:48. > :30:55.in taekwondo is the cherry on the cake. Can you believe it when you

:30:55. > :30:58.look at the crowd and the response. It is amazing, taekwondo is such a

:30:58. > :31:04.low-key sport. Hopefully this will increase the profile. The

:31:04. > :31:08.supporters just amazing. People will expect it in Rio now. Yeah! I

:31:08. > :31:16.will have a bit of time off first and get mentally sorted and bring

:31:16. > :31:20.on Rio. Showed the people you're medal. Congratulations. Can I say a

:31:20. > :31:24.big thank you to my coach, without him I would be nowhere near where I

:31:24. > :31:31.am today. He is a legend and he pushed me so hard. Some days you

:31:31. > :31:39.are tired and you're crying, he has dealt with all sorts. He is amazing.

:31:39. > :31:43.And also Brian Green, his dad. He is a legend as well. Well done.

:31:43. > :31:53.A flash of recognition across your face. Crying and moaning, shouting

:31:53. > :31:54.

:31:54. > :31:57.or coaches. All of those emotions! My coaches normally crying. Maybe

:31:57. > :32:03.the Iain Teaz view it gave away a couple of things that might be

:32:03. > :32:06.coming up later in the show. Martin stamper was also in action,

:32:06. > :32:13.fighting in the under 68 kg category and rose to the occasion

:32:13. > :32:17.and enjoyed great success. He got through to the semi-finals. He came

:32:17. > :32:23.up against the top speed and with a succession of spinning kicks,

:32:23. > :32:31.pushed him all the way, but sadly lost 9-6. It meant Martin went into

:32:31. > :32:41.the contest with -- for the bronze. In a tight and tense about, Martyn

:32:41. > :32:44.

:32:44. > :32:48.We are going to go to boxing next. The first women's final. We will

:32:48. > :32:51.concentrate on a good Yorkshire girl who packs as much of a punch

:32:51. > :32:55.as our jess. Nicola Adams, the Leeds-born

:32:55. > :33:00.flyweight, is the last over of three girls standing and is one win

:33:00. > :33:05.away from gold. Whatever happened today, she would get a guaranteed

:33:05. > :33:11.silver. She beat Mary, yesterday in the semi-final and today faces

:33:11. > :33:19.Cancan of China, who has beaten her in that last two world finals, the

:33:19. > :33:22.last of those in May. She was looking to take the lead role today

:33:22. > :33:27.and win the first gold to be handed and win the first gold to be handed

:33:27. > :33:31.out for boxing in the Olympic Games to women. She started in fire and -

:33:31. > :33:34.- fine style and won the first round. The crowd were right behind

:33:34. > :33:42.her. She started the second on the front foot and that is where we

:33:42. > :33:47.will joint it. -- join it. Into the second round in this

:33:47. > :33:51.women's 51 kg for Olympic flyweight final between the No. 1 and No.2

:33:51. > :34:01.seeds in the tournament. This is a rematch of the World Championship

:34:01. > :34:03.

:34:03. > :34:12.final from last year. Nicola Adams has come out blazing. We saw three

:34:12. > :34:16.phases of attack. Amazing boxing by Adams. Cancan is struggling to

:34:16. > :34:21.workout this speed and these combinations. A beautiful left jab

:34:21. > :34:25.from Adams and the decibel level rises at the ExCeL Arena in

:34:25. > :34:35.London's Docklands. It has been a sell-out crowd for every session of

:34:35. > :34:36.

:34:36. > :34:41.boxing. An historic day, the first time that women are competing in

:34:41. > :34:45.the Olympic Games for a gold medal. What a stunning right cross from

:34:45. > :34:50.Nicola Adams! Driving Cancan back towards the ropes. What an amazing

:34:50. > :34:57.shot. If that hasn't caught the eyes of the judges, I don't know

:34:57. > :35:03.what will. Amazing shot! Cancan is on the canvas. A legitimate knock-

:35:03. > :35:07.down, the count will be issued. It is only one point in Olympic boxing.

:35:07. > :35:12.As we approached the closing 30 seconds, the momentum is in favour

:35:12. > :35:17.of Nicola Adams. She is in the ascendancy. You suspect that at the

:35:17. > :35:21.close of this round, Cancan, the reigning world champion and world

:35:21. > :35:27.number one, is going to have a significant deficit to try to claw

:35:27. > :35:36.back. Adams is content to box on the back foot and use that sublime

:35:36. > :35:41.footwork that we all know she She can't afford to get as excited

:35:41. > :35:49.as we are. She has to keep her discipline and keep her hands high.

:35:49. > :35:53.This is a brilliant performance by Adams. She needs to keep it up.

:35:53. > :36:01.end to the second round. Nicola Adams has extended her advantage.

:36:01. > :36:05.It now stands at five. 9-4 after two rounds of boxing. Fan knocked

:36:05. > :36:10.down but Nicola well in control. She won the third round and

:36:10. > :36:20.continued to impress. Going into the fourth and final round, she was

:36:20. > :36:22.

:36:22. > :36:32.As we move into the fourth and final round of this women's 51 kg

:36:32. > :36:37.flyweight final. Only two minutes of boxing stand between Nicola

:36:37. > :36:47.Adams and Olympic immortality. She is leading the reigning and three-

:36:47. > :36:50.

:36:50. > :36:54.time World Championship gold Unless Cancan can produce a punch

:36:54. > :36:58.to bring about to finish and but Adams on the canvas and keep her

:36:58. > :37:04.there for 10 seconds, one suspects that Nicola Adams is on her way to

:37:04. > :37:11.Olympic gold. Concentration will be absolutely crucial. She doesn't

:37:11. > :37:16.want to let the occasion get to her. She will have to stay in the moment.

:37:16. > :37:22.She will not want to be thinking about the outcome. Her focus will

:37:22. > :37:26.remain on the task at hand. This is absolutely admirable discipline.

:37:26. > :37:31.She knows she has a comfortable lead, but she still maintains a

:37:31. > :37:37.very tight guard. She is picking her shots. Another tremendous right

:37:37. > :37:43.hand as she moves forward. She is not being complacent. She knows

:37:43. > :37:50.that Cancan is a danger until the last bell. Nicola Adams began

:37:50. > :37:55.boxing at the age of 12. She struggled to find opponents. Her

:37:55. > :37:59.mum took her down to an after- school club in Leeds. Nicola was

:37:59. > :38:05.running around and Dunn done it to her mother, she got inside a boxing

:38:05. > :38:09.ring and tried it out. It was there that her talent was first

:38:09. > :38:14.discovered. She is now on the cusp of claiming the first ever women's

:38:15. > :38:24.Olympic boxing gold medal. Just seconds away. The crowd begin to

:38:25. > :38:25.

:38:25. > :38:29.count it down by clapping their hands and stomping their feet. As

:38:29. > :38:38.the closing bell sounds, Nicola Adams produces a fast fisted flurry

:38:38. > :38:43.just underline her superiority. Now the celebrations begin in earnest

:38:43. > :38:48.because there's no doubt in that blue corner, in the Great Britain

:38:48. > :38:58.corner, that Nicola Adams has just made history. Ladies and

:38:58. > :38:58.

:38:58. > :39:04.gentlemen... The winner by a score of 16 points to seven, and Olympic

:39:04. > :39:12.champion, in the blue corner, representing Great Britain, Nicola

:39:12. > :39:18.Adams! Nicola Adams of Great Britain has just made sporting

:39:18. > :39:24.history. She is the first Olympic boxing champion in history in the

:39:24. > :39:29.women's tournament. Nicola Adams is the Olympic champion. It is like a

:39:29. > :39:34.dream come true. I have wanted this all my life. To have finally done

:39:34. > :39:39.it, I'm finally here, with all of this support, it has really made my

:39:39. > :39:44.day. I would like to thank all of the supporters here, all of the

:39:44. > :39:47.supporters back home. I am bringing that gold medal back to Leeds.

:39:47. > :39:54.Surely you will get that medal, what will it be like?

:39:54. > :40:02.absolutely amazing. To have a flag lifted, I can't wait. I'm so happy

:40:02. > :40:12.and overwhelmed. Well done. Gold medallist and Olympic champion,

:40:12. > :40:16.

:40:16. > :40:23.Nicola Adams can barely contain her joy as she makes history by

:40:23. > :40:31.becoming the first women's Olympic boxing champion. What better place

:40:31. > :40:36.to do it than before her home crowd in London at the Games of the 30th

:40:36. > :40:41.Olympiad. STUDIO: Another Yorkshire girl.

:40:41. > :40:45.is incredible. She is such a lovely girl. She trains really hard in

:40:45. > :40:50.Sheffield so it is great to see her do well. She has spent a lot of

:40:50. > :40:55.time in Sheffield. A lot of people want to own a little bit of fur.

:40:55. > :40:59.What she will do for women's boxing will be fantastic. It has been a

:40:59. > :41:02.big success and some people were sceptical. Because? They didn't

:41:03. > :41:09.know whether or not women should be on the programme, the boxing

:41:09. > :41:13.programme. Why not? I would not like to fight her! Technically the

:41:13. > :41:17.women have proven how good they are. You were there today. In it was

:41:17. > :41:22.awesome. There were three great fights, I will not discuss what

:41:22. > :41:27.happened after this. She beat her up, the Chinese girl, the number

:41:27. > :41:31.one. For the other people she should possibly think of the Irish

:41:31. > :41:36.fans because the place was at least three-quarters full of Irish men

:41:36. > :41:41.and women. Along with maybe a quarter Britain. Hopefully you guys

:41:41. > :41:46.are getting along quite well right now. Just fine. You quite liked the

:41:46. > :41:51.women's boxing, I understand. not? We are one of the fuse sports,

:41:51. > :41:56.in tennis, that has equal prize money. That sets a great example.

:41:56. > :41:59.I'm assuming that in the next Olympics, you will have even more

:41:59. > :42:05.divisions for women and you will see bigger and better things and

:42:05. > :42:08.hopefully the women boxers... She is a star. There's a potential to

:42:08. > :42:13.turn professional because in America there's a professional

:42:13. > :42:18.circuit. She might want to keep on the Olympics until Rio. How well

:42:18. > :42:23.her life changed? A lot. Experiencing the past few days

:42:23. > :42:25.after competing, it is madness. She will enjoy every minute of it. It

:42:25. > :42:29.will be great for her to get back home and see her family and

:42:29. > :42:37.celebrate. I'm sure you would like to see this. We did a Yorkshire

:42:37. > :42:41.table the other day and it has improved. If Yorkshire were a

:42:41. > :42:43.nation, and I say this with a little bit of interest as a

:42:43. > :42:49.little bit of interest as a Yorkshire girl, Yorkshire would be

:42:49. > :42:53.11th. A few people today have told me that perhaps Gloucestershire,

:42:53. > :42:56.because they have done very well in equestrian, should also have a

:42:56. > :43:00.table. We can't do it for every region, but there must be something

:43:00. > :43:05.region, but there must be something in the water. Pudding! Quite

:43:05. > :43:10.possibly. I'm very happy with that statistic because I'm working for

:43:10. > :43:19.on Australian Channel nine. Every day I go in and see 400 very, very

:43:19. > :43:21.sad Aussies. I pulled up this statistic the other day about them

:43:22. > :43:26.being behind the sporting powerhouse of Yorkshire and they

:43:26. > :43:31.are very upset. But they are taking it gracefully, for once. At really?

:43:31. > :43:37.Let's do one more of these. It is your turn to go up and move the

:43:37. > :43:42.arrow. And no problem. Nicola Adams's gold medal takes us to a

:43:42. > :43:47.total of 24 gold medals. The record was 19 from Beijing. We passed that

:43:47. > :43:56.a while ago. 24 today. If you had to make a prediction now, what

:43:56. > :44:00.would you say? I think we will go up to 28. OK. Come back and join us.

:44:00. > :44:05.Thank you is so much for coming in. You are massively in demand and

:44:06. > :44:08.having some of your time has been wonderful. Gold fingernails.

:44:08. > :44:12.thought you are going to say have you noticed how tightly she is

:44:12. > :44:17.gripping the medal! Tell us what you are saying about the

:44:17. > :44:21.fingernails. I literally did not want to have anything gold before

:44:21. > :44:27.these games. I didn't want to pay my nails gold, but now I can relax

:44:27. > :44:33.and enjoy it. Give us a close-up. You can wear those for at least the

:44:33. > :44:38.next four years. Tel Rolette to send that bright colour watch! --

:44:38. > :44:43.Rolette. A gold wedding dress, anything! Could like with ever

:44:43. > :44:47.think and enjoy your time off. Staying with the Queens of the ring,

:44:47. > :44:51.Ireland's Katie Taylor had the expectations of a whole country on

:44:51. > :44:54.her shoulders. She is their big gold medal hope of the Games and

:44:54. > :45:00.after qualifying for today's lightweight final, she was also

:45:00. > :45:05.favourite to win gold. Among the gathering green army desperate she

:45:05. > :45:15.would win was Dara O'Briain, a resident of the same town Katie

:45:15. > :45:15.

:45:15. > :45:19.hails from. This is his special and There is a saying in Irish, that

:45:19. > :45:25.which is rare is wonderful, and four Olympic medals, that tends to

:45:25. > :45:29.apply. But not this year. In the general gold rush of Team GB,

:45:29. > :45:34.Ireland is about to win five this year, which is the greatest we have

:45:34. > :45:40.every down, tying with 1956 in Melbourne. Even more rare and

:45:40. > :45:50.beautiful than that, is it lies in the hands of a genuine world-class

:45:50. > :46:03.

:46:03. > :46:06.For the last four years, Katie Taylor has been a her world

:46:06. > :46:10.champion in the weight division, but she is widely regarded as the

:46:10. > :46:14.best pound-for-pound boxer in the sport. Women's boxing is a new

:46:14. > :46:19.sport, with the first Olympics, and in need somebody good as Katie

:46:19. > :46:25.Taylor to establish it. Katie is from the same small town from where

:46:25. > :46:29.I'm from, so she's not only fighting for Ireland, she is

:46:29. > :46:33.fighting for County Wicklow, but she is also fighting for the future

:46:33. > :46:39.of the sport. So if you are wearing green, this is the hottest ticket

:46:39. > :46:46.in the Olympics. Joining me it is noted, the flyweight, Ed Byrne.

:46:46. > :46:49.Have you been following the boxing? Religiously. Why are the weaknesses

:46:49. > :46:54.of the woman Katie Taylor is fighting today? A I would say it

:46:54. > :47:02.would be her face. By that will be proven to be a weak point. Luckily

:47:02. > :47:12.the padding will save her. I am not saying this out of the position of

:47:12. > :47:24.

:47:24. > :47:29.superiority,, but she is winning it. Come on, there you go. Thanks for

:47:29. > :47:36.coming along. Now the women's 60 kilogram lightweight final in the

:47:36. > :47:40.boxing tournament is under way. Katie Taylor, wearing red, with the

:47:40. > :47:50.orthodox stance, when she takes to the boxing ring to demonstrate her

:47:50. > :48:00.vast array of skills, the entire nation comes to a standstill.

:48:00. > :48:01.

:48:01. > :48:11.the combination in! Break it up, Very tight. The at was any bodies

:48:11. > :48:22.

:48:22. > :48:27.Come on, Katie! The good left hand from Ochigava or was followed by

:48:27. > :48:32.Katie Taylor's impersonation of the Ali shuffle. As we stand here on

:48:32. > :48:42.this historic women's Olympic boxing finals, how many youngsters

:48:42. > :48:45.

:48:45. > :48:49.will take inspiration from these And for the first time in the

:48:49. > :48:59.course of the Olympic tournament, the No. 1 seed, Katie Taylor, is

:48:59. > :49:09.trailing. One punch down. What a cracking right cross. Following a

:49:09. > :49:09.

:49:09. > :49:14.blazing left jab. Come on! Come on! A cracking combination again.

:49:14. > :49:18.in stronger now, certainly. He much better by Taylor. In and out

:49:18. > :49:23.without getting caught on the counter. This is her boxing, this

:49:23. > :49:32.is where she is at home. And this is what she needs to do to overcome

:49:32. > :49:38.Archie gave or -- Ochigava and her account of boxing style. -- account

:49:38. > :49:46.of boxing style. Yes! Look at the reaction of the Irish fans in

:49:46. > :49:56.attendance. And what that signify is as well. Two more minutes,

:49:56. > :49:57.

:49:57. > :50:01.Katie! Come on! Jesus, the place erupted. I cannot call it. As we

:50:01. > :50:05.begin the 4th and final round. The tactics will change from Ochigava,

:50:05. > :50:10.because she will have to take the contest from Taylor, but her

:50:10. > :50:17.schoolwork is sublime. Staying out of harm's way but she will have to

:50:17. > :50:22.concentrate on her own boxing. Katie needs to remain concentrated,

:50:22. > :50:26.but she catches Ochigava or with a flying left hook. Slightly off-

:50:26. > :50:33.balance. Managing to hold the clinch. By think the Russian has

:50:33. > :50:40.have the best of this round. Come on, Katie! She needs to do

:50:40. > :50:47.something in this final 30 seconds. And not that. The crowd are

:50:47. > :50:51.counting down the final seconds. And that the final bell, Katie

:50:51. > :50:56.Taylor beats her chest in celebration and receives a hard of

:50:56. > :51:03.congratulations from her coaching team. Jesus, this could go either

:10:10. > :10:14.decided by the people that don't follow. A phenomenal opening and he

:10:14. > :10:22.knows about performances. There might have been world records set

:10:28. > :10:33.David Rudisha, the great athlete that he has. They have gone with

:10:33. > :10:39.him down the back straight. Can they hang on? Look at this. That is

:10:39. > :10:45.really, really quick through 600. Amos moves into second place. Kitum

:10:45. > :10:49.is moving into third. Osagie trying to get forward. It is all about

:10:49. > :10:55.David Rudisha. Already the world record holder, already the world

:10:55. > :11:05.champion. Striding away to become the Olympic champion. How quick

:11:05. > :11:15.

:11:15. > :11:22.will it be? World record! greatest-ever 800m race anyone has

:11:22. > :11:32.ever run, that I've ever seen: obviously. What a privilege to be

:11:32. > :11:38.

:11:38. > :11:43.here. That is a world record. Seb Coe beat the world record all

:11:43. > :11:47.those years ago. A personal best fit Timothy Kitum. Andrew Osagie,

:11:47. > :11:53.1:43.77, a new personal best for 1:43.77, a new personal best for

:11:53. > :11:59.him. I'm very happy. This is the moment I've been waiting for for a

:11:59. > :12:05.very long time. To come here and break the world record is something

:12:05. > :12:10.unbelievable. What a fantastic race. What an elegant runner as well. The

:12:10. > :12:16.first world record. The performance of the athletics track so far. It

:12:16. > :12:20.was an unbelievable race. The times and the rest of the race were

:12:20. > :12:24.unbelievable. The fastest times for each position. A few people said

:12:24. > :12:29.the conditions were lovely, there was not much wind, and ice

:12:29. > :12:35.temperature. People were thinking about the 200m. A you need the

:12:35. > :12:40.right guys. The only thing I'm a little sad about is that what was

:12:40. > :12:45.basically the best performance we've had so far is going to get

:12:45. > :12:51.overshadows by Usain Bolt. -- overshadowed. Athletics purists

:12:51. > :12:58.will probably... Poor of the headlines tomorrow will be about

:12:58. > :13:03.Usain Bolt. Not if Seb Coe has a thing to say about it! I think it

:13:03. > :13:10.was pretty gutsy. The guy came out and said I will set a world record

:13:10. > :13:15.and he did. Andrew had a fantastic race. His time is the four fastest

:13:15. > :13:18.ever, behind Elliott, Seb Coe and Steve Cram. He smashed his personal

:13:18. > :13:27.best. Is there a dearth of middle- distance runners? Doesn't

:13:27. > :13:32.disappoint you? These things are cyclical. All sports have to go out

:13:32. > :13:40.and find their future champions. You're right, it has been a good

:13:40. > :13:44.few years... 20 since we have had a man in the 800m final. Exactly. He

:13:44. > :13:51.ran a personal best, there is nothing more you can do. It was the

:13:51. > :13:59.best race ever. Doesn't he need a rivalry? They always help. Maybe if

:13:59. > :14:03.somebody was coming up behind him. Another story is his coach. He was

:14:03. > :14:08.a missionary who went over to Kenya and met Brendan Foster's brother

:14:08. > :14:15.and he suggested he should start coaching kids. That is how they met.

:14:15. > :14:20.A nice story. I thought it was! can go to Newcastle and find some

:14:21. > :14:25.runners. Your final event, the decathlon, 1,500m, you never looked

:14:26. > :14:30.like you enjoyed that. You're right. I'm glad I'm not doing it now.

:14:30. > :14:34.did it tonight because it was the final of the decathlon. Ashton

:14:34. > :14:38.Eaton, the man who broke the world record coming into this, was

:14:38. > :14:42.looking to break the Olympic record here. He is an interesting

:14:42. > :14:49.character because he only found has bought six years ago. He has done

:14:49. > :14:54.remarkably well. Been a lot of sports, every 10 years you get

:14:54. > :14:58.somebody that is the next generation. He is clearly that. He

:14:58. > :15:08.is so much better than all of the people around at the moment. Let's

:15:08. > :15:12.

:15:12. > :15:15.look at what he has done over the yes, he has got the speed. A couple

:15:15. > :15:21.of tenths of his best, but more than enough to beat the best of the

:15:22. > :15:29.world at the moment. In the long jump, just over 80 metres. His shot

:15:29. > :15:34.putter is a little funky, because he uses a technique from the 50s.

:15:34. > :15:39.The high jump was OK. But here, he is powering away in the 400 metres.

:15:39. > :15:45.That was the end of the first day. Starting today on the hurdles.
